Joseph J Ellis Contributions
Joseph J. Ellis was born on July 18, 1943; he continued to excel in school all the way through college,
when he received his B.A. from the College of William and Mary in Virginia. In 1969, Ellis had
earned both his Masters Degree and PhD from Yale University, yet went on to teach U.S. History at
West Point. Currently, Ellis teaches at the University of Massachusetts where he inspires many
students to pursue careers in historical studies; however, most of Ellis impact on the world comes
from his writing. Based on his eight books, one can infer that Joseph J. Ellis has a passion for
American history and the leaders that played a role to form it. In Ellis most note worthy book,
Founding Fathers: The Revolutionary Generation, Ellis endows his vast knowledge in American ...

However, after a little research, it was found that instead of serving in the military, Ellis was actually
attending Graduate school at Yale University till 1965 to then later receive his Doctorate in 1969.
Although going to school was beneficial, the fact that he lied hurt many Americans; he was ridiculed
and his books lost their popularity. Bonnie Goodman of History News Network states Ellis was
creating a past more worthy of his current stature and position in order to justify his actions. In an act
of discipline, Mount Holyoke was forced to put Ellis on a year leave without pay. However, it was
during this time off that Ellis began working on a new book entitled His Excellency, George
Washington. In this book, Ellis talks about all the accomplishments of Washington, as well as his
character flaws. Ellis was able to relate to Washington during this time in his life and enhanced his
book by making comparisons between Washington and himself. Ellis used his own life to influence his
writing, creating a book that was better written and using his failure as an

Motorcycle Exposed To The Elements
One of the trickiest parts of owning a motorcycle is learning how to care for it and keep it in the best
possible condition. Thankfully, there are a few tips you can follow in order to protect your motorcycle,
such as the few listed below.
Try Not To Leave The Motorcycle Exposed To The Elements
A vital part of owning a motorcycle is trying to protect it from the elements. While it may not always
be possible to store your motorcycle in a garage, particularly if you live in a home that doesn t have
one or if you live in an apartment, there are still ways to protect from the elements.
For example, you can purchase a collapsible motorcycle storage tent that you can place on to your
driveway in order to keep your motorcycle protected or you ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

This is extremely important because maintaining your motorcycle is going to require some tasks that
are quite a bit different than those that you would perform on a regular vehicle, which means that if
you are not inexperienced or long time motorcycle owner there is a good chance that you may end up
overlooking these maintenance tasks. If you bought your motorcycle used and are not sure what kind
of maintenance schedule it requires or if you simply are not confident in your ability to complete the
maintenance on your own, make sure to contact a local motorcycle maintenance service as they will
be able to determine your motorcycle s maintenance needs and provide you with a maintenance
schedule.
Make an appointment with a motorcycle maintenance service today to discuss what steps you can take
to protect your motorcycle and to have your motorcycle inspected for any issues. Trying not to leave
the motorcycle exposed to the elements, making sure to thoroughly wash it on regular basis, and
rigorously following the maintenance schedule are all very effective ways of protecting your

The Economy Of The Oil Industry
Over the last years, the oil industry practiced its deepest recession since 1990s. That being said, the
recovery for this industry finally starts getting better. The Organization of the Petroleum Exporting
Countries approved to change the production last year, 2016. This arrangement has been holding over
to this year, with oil prices increasing for the past several months. But in recent weeks, United States
records have been found greater oil prices have been faded. Experts think it will be years before oil
returns $100 a barrel, a price that was regular till late 2014. But after the oil price recovered from
below $30 in early 2016 to over $50 by the end of the year, there was increasing certainty in the
industry that crude oil could rise ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is why prices began to decrease. In December 2014 the price went down to $55.48 per barrel. At
that point, many people projected that Saudi Arabia and other oil producers will cut back on their own
production to changes prices, as they had in the past. Of course that didn t happen. Saudi Arabia
decided to increase production in order to keep its market share, hoping that the decrease in oil prices
would crush US oil industries, who require higher prices to stay gainful. And that s when things got
really interesting. Ever since Saudi Arabia s decision to maintain output in late 2014, prices have kept
dropping and reducing. This happened because supply continued strong and demand became weaker
than estimated. This shows that US drillers turned out to be far more adaptable to low oil prices than
the Saudis thought. As firms cut costs and increased productivity in order to keep the oil flowing . (Oil
Prices: What to Make of the Volatility.) In the meantime, major developing economies like China,
Russia, and Brazil put a discouragement on the oil industry. An unusually mild winter helped
overpower demand for heating oil, and also a stronger dollar means that some countries now have to
pay more for crude imports. Car owners in places like the United States, Europe, and Japan are paying
less for gasoline, which means they have more money to spend on other things than gas. This is why
oil businesses here in the United

Tuning mechanical properties of graphene with Stone Thrower Wales defects A molecular dynamics
study

Institute of Technology, Roorkee 247667, India
HIGHLIGHTS
ABSTRACT
Structural defects which are inevitable during the production, chemical and heat treatment processes
can affect the mechanical properties of graphene and also defects can be deliberately introduced in
graphene by ion beam irradiation to get required properties for specific applications. So,
understanding the effect of defects on mechanical properties and failure behaviours of a graphene
sheet is important for its applications. In this work, the effects of linear and angular orientation of
different types of Stone Thrower Wales (STW 1 and STW 2) defects on the mechanical properties and
failure behaviour of graphene membrane have been investigated in the frame of molecular dynamics.
This work discussing about tuneable mechanical properties by amending the linear orientation of STW
1 and STW 2 defects at different angles in zigzag direction and armchair direction respectively. The
results obtained from the present work may provide the insights in tailoring the mechanical properties
by preparing defects in graphene, and give a full picture for the applications of graphene with defects
in flexible electronics and nanodevices.

Modern Influences Of The Epic Of Gilgamesh
The Modern influences of The Epic of Gilgamesh Who says Gilgamesh ever died? (Ziolkowski 57).
The Epic of Gilgamesh has remained a widely read story throughout the years. The Epic of Gilgamesh
is a story of an imperfect hero on a journey for everlasting life. It features Gilgamesh, the king of
Uruk, and Enkidu, a wild beast man, on a journey of heroic quests and misadventures. This story has
inspired many new literary and visual works in many languages; it has also inspired modern
archeologists to learn all about the ancient city from the epic. The Epic of Gilgamesh is the oldest epic
known to date. It is an old Babylonian tale first written down in Sumerian. The first known copy of the
epic is dated to around 2100 to 2000 B.C.E. However, it is believed to have originated many years
earlier passed along though oral story telling. The epic was used in Babylonian schools to teach
literature to students (Puchner 36). In ancient times, the Epic of Gilgamesh was widely read from
Mesopotamia to Syria to Levant and Anatolia. The epic was also translated into non Mesopotamian
languages such as Hittite (Puchner 34). The story we know today was expanded upon around 1200
B.C.E. by a Babylonian priest. The eleven tablet version may be said to have assumed its present form
during the latter part of the second millennium (Abusch 618). It was then written down again and
stored in the library of an Assyrian king named Ashurbanipal (Ziolkowski 55 56). It was thanks to this

Strategic Transformation Of Alexander I And The Napoleonic...
Napoleon Bonaparte was a strategic mastermind who aimed for the domination of all of Europe.
Russia was the opposing force to this plan. The Napoleonic Wars began in 1803 and lasted to 1815.
The Napoleonic Wars affected Russia when they were under the reign of tsar Alexander I. Russia s
allies during the war were Great Britain, Prussia, Sweden, and Austria (Greenspan). In this time
Russia grew as a country and became an independent force to be reckoned with. Russia was greatly
changed through the Napoleonic Wars as a country, because of powerful leadership. The leadership
and decisions of Alexander I played a large role in the transformation of Russia. Alexander I came to
power after the assassination of Paul I, and his reign lasted from 1801 1825. Alexander s reign
followed a dark time in Russia of monarchs and tyrannies. Alexander was favored by his subject for
he wanted to create a new and happier beginning for all of Russia. The beginning of Alexander I s rule
was very crucial for Russia s success in the Napoleonic Wars. Alexander atoned for the faults of his

Nicolas (Kagan). Even though the Russian and Austrian force of approximately ninety thousand was
defeated there were some positives for Tsar Alexander (Battle of Austerlitz). In this battle Napoleon
revealed his battle strategy to Alexander I and in being a bright ruler, he was able to take advantage

Judicial Branch Importance
Under the constitution of the United States we split the power of the government up into three
sections, Executive Legislative and Judicial. The Judicial Branch is one though of extreme importance
basically because it sets the standards of right and wrong in a sense. At the top of the Judicial branch
sits the Supreme Court which consists of 9 Justices, one supreme and 8 associate which could be
subject to change by congress (Brief Overview of the Supreme Court). There is one justice though
whom stands out when I think of the Supreme Court ant that is Earl Warren. A self made man, Chief
Justice Earl Warren transformed the judicial system during a tumultuous time for American politics.

Strengths And Weaknesses Of Existentialism
Introduction
There are many philosophies that people use in their lives. Some of the ways of thinking are linked to
some prominent people. There is idealism, naturalism, experimentalism, and existentialism among
others. This essay explores existentialism, which has been postulated by Sartre among others. The
other proponents of existentialism include Nietzsche, Kierkegaard, martin Buber, Martin Heidegger
and Martin Buber. The weakness and strengths of existentialism are going to be discussed in this
essay. The main facets of existentialism that are going to be discussed include the following:
authenticity, existence precedes essence, being and nothingness, being in itself, being for itself and
man being condemned to be free. The basic issues discussed by existentialists also include; anxiety,
death, alienation, despair, forlornness, anguish, quietism and abandonment among other aspects that
distinguish existentialism from other philosophies.
Existentialism focuses on the subjective views and experiences on individuals as the sources of truth
and reality for them. Existentialism has its base on how each individual person interprets the world
around him/her. The individual has the freedom to do what he/she wants to do as long as such a person
is liable for the consequences of his/hers. As a result, the individuals dictate his truth, his reality or
what he believes is good or bad. This is against the other philosophies that relate what is good on laws
and rules, norms and mores

Cory Arnold Research Paper
Hi there! I m Cory Arnold, an English teacher in his fifth year in Japan with four years of experience
teaching at junior high and elementary schools in Japan. My first year was as an exchange student at
Kandai Gaidai in Osaka, where I studied language with Japanese students. That caused my interest in
studying Japanese language to expand to linguistics and foreign language in a broader sense, leading
me to become an English teacher. Primarily working at junior high school, much of my work is
focused on instructing proper English grammar, spelling and pronunciation. Along with speech contest
coaching, I make and grade worksheets, tests, and activities to practice all four aspects of language
(reading, writing, speaking, listening).

Rhetorical Analysis Of Letter From Birmingham Jail
In the midst of the Civil Rights movement, Doctor Martin Luther King, Jr. found himself in a jail cell
in Birmingham, Alabama, one of the most segregated cities in the United States at the time. While in
that jail cell, King wrote Letter from Birmingham Jail in response to the city s religious leaders.
Through his use of ethos, pathos, and logos, King made a thought provoking and powerful argument
for the Civil Rights movement which continues to inspire change in the hearts of his audience, both
implied and actual. An effective strategy used by King was his careful placement and articulation of
each paragraph in the letter. Had King decided to go straight into defending his actions, the letter
would not have been well regarded. He used ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While the powerful personal experiences that King shares in the letter serve as emotional appeals, they
also serve as a type of evidence through personal experience. King has the gift of story telling in a
way that makes a person feel all of the same emotions that must have been felt during those hard
times. King makes the reader feel the frustration of those moments when his community was told to
wait for a better, more convenient time. He makes the reader feel the sorrow of the moments when his
daughter asks to go to a park but they are not allowed because it is for whites only, or when his son
asks why they are treated different for their skin color. He makes a person feel the horror that must
have been felt watching families get hurt or killed by angry mobs or policemen. It is through this use
of pathos that King continues to inspire humanity to do better. Interwoven within the web of powerful
emotion is an eye opening amount of logic. King used pathos to open minds to the idea of change.
Between the use of pathos, the logic starts to flow in. He connected with the religious leaders through
his chosen evidence. Each of King s claims are carefully supported by examples that he drew from
Christianity or through historical evidence that he ties to Christian values. He brought it all together
through connecting it with something he knew his implied audience would be able to understand. The
overall success of the

Dogs Rule, Cats Drool
Dogs are happy to see you no matter what kind of mood you re in. Everyday when I come home from
school my dog, Nemo, is there to greet me at the door by jumping on me and licking my face. I could
ve had an amazing, miserable, tired, or content day and the jumping still continues. Canines are loyal
friends and the relationship between dogs and humans goes way back. Dogs are better than cats
because they assist humans and show more affection.
Dogs have been domesticated for as long as 135,000 years which makes cats seem fairly new to the
household. Both dogs and cats were originally used for reasons that benefited human work. Now a
days, dogs are far more useful with job skills. When I was little, I used to live outside. Not literally,
but just in the sense that I was an outdoors kind of child. I enjoyed helping my dad with household
projects and was ecstatic when I found out he would build a tree house for me. While he built the
major part of it with dangerous equipment, I put myself in charge of collecting sticks to try and help
my father put it together. Sooner or later, Nemo, my dog, was running back and forth with sticks in his
mouth helping me collect what I needed.
Canines have the ability to serve as seeing eye dogs, firedogs, service dogs or just a playful, loyal
companion. The closer the dog and human s relationship is, the stronger the feelings between them
are. Canines have a talent of recognizing dangerous situation and being there for humans in their time

Private Companies are companies that are either owned by non governmental organizations or by a
relatively small number of shareholders or company members which does not offer or trade its
company stock (shares) to the general public on the stock market exchanges, but rather the company s
stock is offered, owned and traded or exchanged privately (Google).
Private companies are very similar to independent companies; the only real difference is that private
companies can choose their shareholders. Private companies don t need to meet the strict exchange
commission requirements that public companies have to, like having to give a certain percentage of
their income to the government.
Independent companies are companies which work on their own; they can make decision on their own
and are free of influence by government or corporate interests. Independent companies are different to
subsidiaries as Independent companies are not owned by any conglomerate. An advantage of an
independent company is that all the money the company makes is its own profit instead of being
shared with other companies. A disadvantage of an independent media company is that they often find
it difficult to survive against competition from bigger companies that are owned by conglomerates as
they are better known, which reduces their source of income resulting in bankruptcy.
Although if an independent media company is

Comparison Of Sleepy Hollow And Ichabod Crane
The style of Washington Irving s story varies from enchanted and mysterious, to downright jovial. His
rich language describes Sleepy Hollow and Ichabod Crane s time spent there with lavish detail of the
scenery and even the food.Ironically, the end and explanation of the Headless Horseman is different in
the two sources. In the story, with Crane hungry for the supernatural, Irving implies with his ending
that Brom Bones was the Horseman and that what happened could have a reality based explanation. In
the movie, where Johnny Depp s Ichabod Crane adamantly rejects any supernatural ideas, Tim Burton
creates an entire back story of witchcraft to explain the Headless Hessian. In one similarity, both

Next came global imperialism during 1893, which was simply an extension of the way American had
won the West (Schultz, 2012, para. 3). Politically, American imperialism can be traced back to the
1870s when the United States began to compete with European powers to conquer vulnerable resource
rich regions that would provide substantial profits and a worldwide network of commercial and
military bases (Schultz, 2012, para. 7). In 1883, the United States began to build upon its military
through the replacement of wooden sailing ships with powerful all steel, steam driven battleships,
armed with the latest long range artillery (Schultz, 2012, para. 19). This also meant that the United
States needed naval supply bases to aid the naval fleet in maintaining American territory overseas. As
for why America was building a global empire, this was done to support American economic
development and to establish the United States as a world power worth reckoning with. The United
States also worked to build a global empire because many Americans believed the United States was
destined to share the benefits of democracy and white civilization with the rest of the world (Schultz,
2012, para. 90).

Aviation is one of the combat arms branches of the army today, but in the beginning flying was just a
method of observation and scouting. Before the first heavier than air aircraft appeared, the man had
been taking the sky using balloons, During the American civil war both the North and the South used
air balloons to direct artillery fire and observe enemy dispositions. this marked the beginning of aerial
support for ground troops the roles of the first aircraft were limited to reconnaissance. However, they
quickly evolve and adapt specialized roles. The fascinating history of aviation starts a cold and windy

was far better than the larger Air Corps planes that had been used previously. Organic Army Aviation

organic Army Aviation was to adjust artillery, during the war, it expanded. During World War II, L 4

Social Criticism Of Geoffrey Chaucer
Ashley Cartagena
Ms. Morris
English 12 5th period
5 December 2017
Geoffrey Chaucer as a Social Critic Geoffrey Chaucer, also known as the father of English literature,
is one of the greatest writers in his time. He is still famous today for his publications about fictional
characters ranging from all sorts of social classes, including the most luxurious of lifestyles, the
pauperized, and everything in between. Being a frequent traveler, Chaucer was able to observe groups
of people and develop his own opinions and ideas based on these observations subsequently creating
these characters. From his daring opinions embedded in his work, Chaucer easily became one of the
most controversial writers. In his literary work, Geoffrey Chaucer conveys his disdain for corruption
in the Church, politicians, and societal standards. In The Canterbury Tales Chaucer indirectly
proclaims his views of the Church by giving his characters involved in the Church corrupt
personalities and intentions in working for the Church. His characters that work for the Church or
claim to serve by God commonly possess avaricious personalities, ultimately interfering with what
should be honest and holy work. The Friar, for example is meant to live a life based off charitable
donations in the name of religion with a minimalistic style of living. However, he rather dedicates his
life using the donations he receives for giving each of his young women what he could afford her

Briggs typologies are extraversion versus introversion, sensing versus intuiting, thinking versus

Humanoid Robots Essay
Introduction: For years robotic technology has depicted fictional humanoid robots in movies and
television, consequently peaking our imagination of artificial life forms. No longer are humanoid
robots fiction, but reality as roboticists have been developing them not only with an appearance based

How Is Kali Alike
The Story of Kali the Mother and Goddess
The Hindu goddess of death is Kali, the word Kal means time in Sanskrit and it is said that nothing
can stop the march of time and Kali means She who is black or She who is death (Cartwright et
al.).Even though she is known as the goddess of death, she only kills the Ego. She is actually rather
compassionate as she provides moksha to her children. On the other hand ego sees Kali as a very
fearsome form and will see their own demise when they look upon her. Those who practice in the
removal of their own ego tend to see Kali as very sweet and caring for her children. Kali the goddess

was still rampaging Shiva laid down in the bodies and waited for Kali to find him. Eventually Kali
stumbled upon him, and she didn t notice he was there until she stepped onto his chest. Everything
that Kali was walking on was being destroyed with each step, but when she stepped on Shiva he was
not destroyed and this caused her to look down at him. She stared into his eyes for a little bit and soon
realized that it was her husband Shiva. Consequently the first thing she does is stick out her tongue, in
India it symbolizes regret and shame. She sticks out her tongue to let Shiva know that she did bad and
she regrets what she did. This is why in every picture of Kali she is sticking her tongue out.

The Egyptian movie industry is over one hundred years old putting into consideration it began in
1896. In January 1896, Promio, a Lumiere photographer, visited the country to create short films and
showed it showed the Egyptians. By 1908, the country had ten movie houses, three of them in
Alexandria and five in Cairo. As more Egyptians viewed the films, they started to become interested
in the art of filmmaking. The first Egyptian films by an Egyptian were made in 1912 by Abdel
Rahman Salheya after hiring outside technicians. In 1927, Layla became the first full length but silent
movie in the country. In the 1980s, film production in Egypt started decreasing. However, the latest
trend in the Egyptian movie industry seems to be giving it a bad name. In 2014, it was argued that
Egyptian films bore a close resemblance to those from Hollywood (Meky, 2014).

Strength Of Tensile Strength
2.1.8.4. Tensile strength:
Lightweight and normal weight concretes have similar tensile strengths, though lightweight exhibits
greater variability. The tensile strength of normal weight concrete of equal compressive strength may
vary within a wide range depending, among other parameters, on the shape and surface texture of the
aggregate. Experimental tests indicate that the tensile strength of concrete is highly variable and
ranges from a bout 8 12% of its compressive strength. The actual value depends on the type of the test
and crack propagation pattern at failure. (Ghoneim and El Mihlmy, 2008)
(Fabian, 2010), the tensile strength of concrete is important when considering cracking. For specimens
loaded under uniaxial compression, cracking parallel to the line of action of the load implies some
influence of the tensile strength of the specimens units. Depending on the load impact, tensile strength

We explore the Equity Value s sensitivity to the discount rate as well as to the projected growth rate.
This sensitity is shown in Table . Using the baseline assumptions (WACC=8.5%, growth rate=2%), we
arrive at a base equity level without synergies of $46.41 per share. However, this value is quite
sensitive to both the WACC and growth rates. The overall spectrum of base values ranges from
$27.75/share to $73.42/share, with the baseline assumptions falling squarely in the middle.
Table 4: Per Share Equity Value without Syergies
Value of the Cost Synergies
To be able to recognize the cost synergies, Dow had to incur a one time cost of $1.3 billion spread
over two years. Dow also stated that it would take 2 years for them to fully recoginize the cost
synergies. We found that $800 million of cost synergies would be worth and additional $32.18 per
Rohm and Haas share.
Value of the Growth Synergies
Growth Synergies are estimated to be between $2B and $2.6B based on expanded market porfolios,
increased geographic reach and innovative technologies. We assume that these Growth Synergies
would also take two years to completely recognize. The equity value per Rohm and Haas share is
stated in the table below to view the difference between $2B and $2.6B:

Compare And Contrast Alexander Hamilton And Thomas Jefferson
In the 18th century, the fate of Americas political structure was uncertain. In George Washington s
Farewell Address in 1796, the president advised that the creation of political parties sharpened by the
spirit of retaliation, would inevitably cause long term mistreatment. Despite his words, two of his
closest advisors, Alexander Hamilton and Thomas Jefferson, formed the gatherings that started the
dual party system in which the United States operates today.
Although both men were important in the Revolution and in the establishment of the United States,
they did not coordinate until Washington chose Hamilton to be the Secretary of the Treasury and
Jefferson to be the Secretary of State. From the beginning, the two men harbored ... Show more

toward a legislature molded after the English constitution.
Whenever Jefferson and John Adams pursued the organization in 1796, political gatherings had

events required an amendment that changed the option to allow president/VP tickets on the count. The
Federalists overpowered the national government through most of the eighteenth century. Despite
President Washington s attempts at unity, political differences wound up being unreasonably
significant making it impossible to convey understanding. The Republican Party rose in power and
made limitations to Federalist game plans, regardless of Jefferson s confirmations in his first inaugural
address that Americans were all republicans and all federalists.
The two different visions of assembly of Thomas Jefferson and Alexander Hamilton conveyed
understandings of American power and the American people. For Hamilton, America s quality lay in
the business industry. His America was one of delegates, specialists, speculators and banks. His party
anticipated those would help these people battle in an overall business focus. Hamilton was suspicious
of state governments, obliged as they were to slim neighborhood interests.
Jefferson believed the nation s quality lay in its agricultural roots. He bolstered an agrarian nation

Gender Roles And Expectations Of Romanian Men And Women
Under the rule of President Nicolae Ceausescu, the marginalization of women within socialist
Romania was strengthened by the government s denial of sexual liberation to women. In Ceausescu s
refusal to allow women governance over their bodies, restrictive reproductive policies that emphasized
the femininity of women were created. By placing such an importance on femininity and a woman s
ability to reproduce, instead of a woman s right of choosing whether to reproduce, Ceausescu s regime
solidified the patriarchal and traditionalist ideology of socialist Romania. It is from these patriarchal
and traditionalist ideas of Ceausescu that gender constructs concerning the roles and expectations of
Romanian men and women were adopted, accepted by governing figures, and forced upon societal
members. The Romanian government s focus on the femininity of women and denial of bodily
authority and integrity to women, fortified Ceausescu s regime s belief of a woman s femininity being
subordinate to a man s masculinity. It is from Ceausescu s regime claiming authority over the bodies
of Romanian women and his imposing pronatalist beliefs within the lives of both men and women
within socialist Romania, that the idea of femininity being subordinate to masculinity was supported
and solidified.
The subordination of femininity when compared to masculinity stems from societal standards that
were constructed from androcentric and traditionalist values. Governmental powers under Ceausescu

Archetypes In The Bloody Chamber
Very few texts have had as much influence on the theological thought or have indelibly marked the
Western World morals as the story of the earthly paradise of Genesis. Very few female archetypes
have become so engraved in the Western collective unconscious or imagination as that of Eve, the first
woman, the mother of mankind, the temptress, the directly responsible for the Fall and the destruction
of mankind who, therefore, is stigmatized, blamed for it and conceptualized as inferior to Adam, the
man. In this sense, Mary Wollstonecraft s argument that myths such as the Fall are designed to
persuade us that we are naturally inclined to evil seems to be true. This essay seeks to examine, in the
first place, the way in which this thought, with particular reference to women as the eternal culprit,
appears to be deeply rooted in the religious reading of the book of Genesis, thus laying the
foundations for a patriarchal society. Then one can analyse how the writer Angela Carter, despite
including references to this myth in her book The Bloody Chamber, desacralizes and demystifies this
patriarchal view of women by rewriting ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

role of women almost entirely: while myths shot down the world, Carter, with her retelling, opens the

Photography Art History
During the 1850s the photographic community pursued an increased activity to advance the medium s
claims as art. In England, France, Italy, Germany and the United States several societies and
publications were founded, such as the Photographic Society of London (now the Royal Photographic
Society) and the Societe Francaise de Photographie, established in 1853 and 1854 respectively, still in
existence. Numerous professional publications such as La Lumiere in Paris, the Photographic Journal
in London, and others in Italy, Germany and the United States were at the vanguard of discussions
regarding photography as a legitimate art form, promoting spaces which would included exhibitions of
photography as well as painting.
At the beginning of 1862, an article published in the Photographic Journal, by an unknown author,
summed up the discussions over photography as art, stating: the question is not whether photography
is fine art per se neither painting nor sculpture can make that claim but whether it is capable of artistic
expression; whether in the hands of a true artists its productions become works of art. A French
naturalist, Louis Figuier, also made an accurate observation in regards to photography and fine arts:

Prison Overcrowding And The United States
Nelson Mandela once said, It is said that no one truly knows a nation until one has been inside its jails.
A nation should not be judged by how it treats its highest citizens, but its lowest ones. The prisons in
the United States have been overcrowded for many years and require a change in order to fix this.
Some of the main causes for prison overcrowding that will be covered in this paper are mass
incarceration, long sentencing, recidivism, and prisoners of drug crimes. Overcrowding of prisons in
the United States is a major issue that affects not only the prisoners themselves, but taxpayers and
politicians. Although there are many different solutions to prison overcrowding such as building more
prisons, alternative and shorter sentences, etc., the issue is still prevalent. Some feel the best way to
deal with overcrowding is to build more prisons to accommodate the large influx of prisoners. Others
feel the best mode of action to solve this problem is through shorter, and alternative sentencing, which
frees up space for serious offenders of the law. This paper argues that shorter, and alternative prison
sentences are the most effective way to reduce the prison population in the United States. Prisons and
their overcrowding is a controversial topic not to be taken lightly. There are an incredible number of
people in American prisons today. For example, according to Peter Katel, there are more people in
prison right now in the United States than any other country. The

The company has decided to use different applications instead of using a single ERP system, which in
turns would make their operations smoother. They have chosen to do this in order to be cost efficient
and to focus on the specific need so each department uses a different application. That is connected by
middleware that they don t fully understand on how to operate, and are afraid that if they attempt to
change it, it would crash all of their system. This in turn makes their operational capabilities not the
strongest as it relates to their business model. On the other hand, some of the challenges that they face
is that they will not be able to complete all orders or be able to implement improvements due to the
increase volume of request that need to be processed during this time. Some of the IT related issues
are those that are associated with the different applications that are being used. If an applications
crashes then it would hold them up significantly in completing all orders and having them be delivered
on time. Primarily the lack of staffing and the lack of IS improvements puts them at a disadvantage
against their competitors who more than likely have significant more sophisticated IS infrastructure.

joined the five year expedition on the survey ship, the HMS Beagle, in 1831. In the expedition,
Darwin developed a theory and published a book call The Origin of Species. This book was the
beginning of what we know about evolution, and it was controversial. The book brought disputations
between devoted christians and darwinists on the validity of evolution. During that period of time,
most Europeans believed that the world was created by God in ... Show more content on

Due to the contradiction, a significant event happened in that past, and it was called the Scope Trial.
The Scope Trial was an American legal case in 1925 about a high school teacher, John Scopes,
teaching evolution. Teaching evolution violated Tennessee s Butler Act, which is an act that made it
unlawful to teach evolution in any state funded school, so he ended up in prison. John Scopes was just
a believer of evolution, but his belief brought him inconvenience and trouble, because evolution and
Christianity were two extreme sides that were not able to make peace and mediate. When Darwin
died, he took back what he said about the theory of evolution. He states, How I wish I had not
expressed my theory of evolution as I have done, (Moore). Darwin took his theory to his deathbed,
because he was attacked by the church for developing the theory of evolution. Although Darwin took
his theory back, but he had made us wanting to figure out whether evolution really occurred or not. To
determine the validity of evolution, there are different modern technologies now that are able to help
us decide if evolution really occurred or not. An example of this can be paleontology. Through
paleontology, scientists discovered a famous transitional form call Archaeopteryx. Archaeopteryx is
able to provide evidence of an evolutionary pathway from dinosaurs to birds. Using technologies,

Supportive Family Goals
Having a supportive family is the most important thing that you can have when you are trying to
achieve goals. Without the supporting family, it will be likely that you won t or can t achieve the
goals. Many things can help/hinder your progress in achieving these goals such as financial status,
social class, levels of education, or even family tradition. Though these things do affect the progress
towards these goals, I know that it is still possible to achieve these goals. Race and certain
neighborhoods did hinder a lot of people from achieving success, but my mom grew up in a very
affluent neighborhood where she saw very successful people which led her to believe that success was
easy to obtain. Growing up, my mom had a mom and a dad present in her household, that each had a
job, were very supportive and only wanted success for their daughter. At that time, the neighborhood
they were in was average which allowed her to see how to be successful and make her strive to be
successful. Her parents wouldn t accept anything less than 110% and expected her to be successful.
Living in a nicer neighborhood and having a supportive family made it easier for her to continue
striving for success. My mom s family was middle class and was ineligible for many of the financial
assistance programs, so all of the schooling or programs she took part in she had to work to put herself
through. Being with a successful family, this made her journey to becoming successful much easier
financially.

Breakfast of Champions as Social Commentary Essay
Matthew Choma
English 101
Prof. J. Douglas
4/9/11
Breakfast of Champions: Science Fiction as Social Commentary
Vonnegut s symbolic and satirical representation of humans as robots in his novel: Breakfast of
Champions is representative of the authors interpretation of world events and conflicting nature of
human beings. The renowned author often hits on significant and worrisome themes such as
destruction of the planet and overpopulation. His unique and unparallel style includes outrageous and
often unrealistic chain of event that are obviously symbolic and relevant to the story as well as the
author s attitude on a particular subject matter. For instance in describing when Kilgore Trout writes
his stories, he does not save them ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We are introduced into the story as outsiders almost, as if we did not belong to the planet, as if we
were not human. This kind of insight creates a whole different kind of attitude on the events that are
happening within. Science fiction, theoretically attempts to do just that. To make the ordinary seem
strange, in order to provide critique to a specific subject matter in order to let the reader rethink his or
her own attitude on the matter at hand. Certainly this is that case here as well. Having this third party
perspective allows for us to rethink our entire attitudes on relevant social and secular issues
dominating at the time. For instance such a moment that sticks out is the description of women s
underwear. And the madness about wide open beavers was extended to underpants when Dwayne and
Trout and I were boys. Girls concealed their underpants at all costs, and boys tried to see their
underpants at all coasts (Vonnegut, 27). Below the paragraph is a picture of the very underpants he
spoke of that portrays, literary, a critique of how insignificant and unworthy the massive social
outbursts on debates were on nude or nearly nude depictions of women in popular magazines when
compared to other issues that plagued the world.
One passage sticks out in particular when it comes to issues that Vonnegut considers relevant: The
Creator of the Universe would like to apologize not only for the capricious,

A Summary Of The Film Iron Jawed Angels
Women have been fighting for equal rights for quite some time here in the United States. As stated in
Chapter 3 of Gendered Lives by Julia T. Wood and Natalie Fixmer Oraiz, there have been three waves
of women s movements in the United States alone. The first wave starting as early as 1840, and the
third wave still continuing to this very day. However, the first wave, that started in the 1840 s and
lasted until around the 1960 s will be the main focus of this paper. This first wave came about as an
ideology of liberal feminism. Fixmer Oraiz and Wood describes liberal feminism as the idea that
women and men are alike and equal in most respects. Therefore, goes the reasoning they should have
equal rights, roles, and opportunities (Gendered Lives, p58). The ideology of liberal feminism is
represented profoundly, especially as far as women rights to vote, in the 2004 film Iron Jawed Angels.
This paper aims to discuss the first wave of women s movements in the United States as represented in
the movie Iron Jawed Angels, as well as the impact of this movement on gender, and an emotional
reaction to the movie itself. Before discussing the movie, a brief summary of the first wave, and what
it entailed will be provided. The main focus of the first wave was to gain basic civil rights for women.
According to Fixmer Oraiz and Wood it all started when Lucretia Coffin Mott and Elizabeth Cady
Stanton met at an international antislavery convention and were both denied entry based on

Should The Responsiveness Of Margaret Thatcher s Time As...
There s no doubt that Margaret Thatcher s time as Prime Minister changed the way Britain saw itself
and how it was seen on the international stage, but what can be debated is whether or not she was
elected due to her own party s strengths, or the weaknesses of the opposition. The years before and
during Thatcher s time were fraught for the country, with inflation running high and lots of discontent,
displayed not only through strikes but also the via ballot boxes. Thatcher first came to power with a
majority of 43 seats for her first government in May 1979, which rose to 144 seats in June 1983 and in
June 1987 she received her third victory with a 100 seat margin, a sharp drop from 1983 but still a
comprehensive victory. A majority of 144

Essay About The Dead To Kill
Once upon a time there was these two brothers whom lived in a small village and were really close to
each other in everything they did. The only thing they had in contrast was their personalities and

while the other one had no chill and liked them to break the rules, he was known to as the savage
brother. They got along with each other so well even tho their personalities were not too alike. The

As the kids walked through the chilly forest they stopped feeling so optimistic about the journey, but
of course Ricky was fine, he was know to do unintelligent decisions like this. They walked for 30
minutes until finding their first actual trace and evidence the traveler had left, they found the traveler s
wagon on flames and completely faulty. It looked like someone or something had shot a potent
explosion at the wooden made wagon. The team searched for a couple minutes to end up with nothing
acquired. Hope was lost for the team but nope, not for Ricky. He knew he had to keep looking so as
the team leader they proceeded their route. In about 1 hour of looking they found nothing and started
to loose hope in the treasure, but then they saw a man lying in the path and seemed to be really beaten
up and damaged. This man turned out to be the one and only traveler. They quickly searched him for
anything he had and found a key in his pocket, they had found the key to this treasure. Suddenly a
huge creature came up crawling from the trees and bushes. The thing was hideous, breathing fire too.
The thing crawled up to the group with a chest and said in an intimidating tone you have found the
treasure but you will be required to pass a test to get this, if you walk right out of this forest without
looking back you will be awarded but i warn you if you open your bag before you leave my home

That being said, the recovery for this industry finally starts getting better. The Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries approved to change the production last year, 2016. This arrangement has been holding over to this year, with oil prices increasing for the past several months. But in recent weeks, United States records have been found greater oil prices have been faded. Experts think it will be years before oil returns $100 a barrel, a price that was regular till late 2014. But after the oil price recovered from below $30 in early 2016 to over $50 by the end of the year, there was increasing certainty in the industry that crude oil could rise ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is why prices began to decrease. In December 2014 the price went down to $55.48 per barrel. At that point, many people projected that Saudi Arabia and other oil producers will cut back on their own production to changes prices, as they had in the past. Of course that didn t happen. Saudi Arabia decided to increase production in order to keep its market share, hoping that the decrease in oil prices would crush US oil industries, who require higher prices to stay gainful. And that s when things got really interesting. Ever since Saudi Arabia s decision to maintain output in late 2014, prices have kept dropping and reducing. This happened because supply continued strong and demand became weaker than estimated. This shows that US drillers turned out to be far more adaptable to low oil prices than the Saudis thought. As firms cut costs and increased productivity in order to keep the oil flowing . (Oil Prices: What to Make of the Volatility.) In the meantime, major developing economies like China, Russia, and Brazil put a discouragement on the oil industry. An unusually mild winter helped overpower demand for heating oil, and also a stronger dollar means that some countries now have to pay more for crude imports. Car owners in places like the United States, Europe, and Japan are paying less for gasoline, which means they have more money to spend on other things than gas. So, understanding the effect of defects on mechanical properties and failure behaviours of a graphene sheet is important for its applications. In this work, the effects of linear and angular orientation of different types of Stone Thrower Wales (STW 1 and STW 2) defects on the mechanical properties and failure behaviour of graphene membrane have been investigated in the frame of molecular dynamics. This work discussing about tuneable mechanical properties by amending the linear orientation of STW 1 and STW 2 defects at different angles in zigzag direction and armchair direction respectively. The results obtained from the present work may provide the insights in tailoring the mechanical properties by preparing defects in graphene, and give a full picture for the applications of graphene with defects in flexible electronics and nanodevices. The Epic of Gilgamesh has remained a widely read story throughout the years. The Epic of Gilgamesh is a story of an imperfect hero on a journey for everlasting life. It features Gilgamesh, the king of Uruk, and Enkidu, a wild beast man, on a journey of heroic quests and misadventures. This story has inspired many new literary and visual works in many languages; it has also inspired modern archeologists to learn all about the ancient city from the epic. The Epic of Gilgamesh is the oldest epic known to date. It is an old Babylonian tale first written down in Sumerian. The first known copy of the epic is dated to around 2100 to 2000 B.C.E. However, it is believed to have originated many years earlier passed along though oral story telling. The epic was used in Babylonian schools to teach literature to students (Puchner 36). In ancient times, the Epic of Gilgamesh was widely read from Mesopotamia to Syria to Levant and Anatolia. The epic was also translated into non Mesopotamian languages such as Hittite (Puchner 34). The story we know today was expanded upon around 1200 B.C.E. by a Babylonian priest. The eleven tablet version may be said to have assumed its present form during the latter part of the second millennium (Abusch 618). It was then written down again and stored in the library of an Assyrian king named Ashurbanipal (Ziolkowski 55 56). It was thanks to this act that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The basic issues discussed by existentialists also include; anxiety, death, alienation, despair, forlornness, anguish, quietism and abandonment among other aspects that distinguish existentialism from other philosophies. Existentialism focuses on the subjective views and experiences on individuals as the sources of truth and reality for them. The individual has the freedom to do what he/she wants to do as long as such a person is liable for the consequences of his/hers. Through his use of ethos, pathos, and logos, King made a thought provoking and powerful argument for the Civil Rights movement which continues to inspire change in the hearts of his audience, both implied and actual. While the powerful personal experiences that King shares in the letter serve as emotional appeals, they also serve as a type of evidence through personal experience. King has the gift of story telling in a way that makes a person feel all of the same emotions that must have been felt during those hard times. King makes the reader feel the frustration of those moments when his community was told to wait for a better, more convenient time. He makes the reader feel the sorrow of the moments when his daughter asks to go to a park but they are not allowed because it is for whites only, or when his son asks why they are treated different for their skin color. He makes a person feel the horror that must have been felt watching families get hurt or killed by angry mobs or policemen. It is through this use of pathos that King continues to inspire humanity to do better. Interwoven within the web of powerful emotion is an eye opening amount of logic. King used pathos to open minds to the idea of change. Between the use of pathos, the logic starts to flow in. He connected with the religious leaders through his chosen evidence. In 1883, the United States began to build upon its military through the replacement of wooden sailing ships with powerful all steel, steam driven battleships, armed with the latest long range artillery (Schultz, 2012, para. 19). Social Criticism Of Geoffrey Chaucer Ashley Cartagena Ms. Morris English 12 5th period 5 December 2017 Geoffrey Chaucer as a Social Critic Geoffrey Chaucer, also known as the father of English literature, is one of the greatest writers in his time. He is still famous today for his publications about fictional characters ranging from all sorts of social classes, including the most luxurious of lifestyles, the pauperized, and everything in between. Being a frequent traveler, Chaucer was able to observe groups of people and develop his own opinions and ideas based on these observations subsequently creating these characters. From his daring opinions embedded in his work, Chaucer easily became one of the most controversial writers. In his literary work, Geoffrey Chaucer conveys his disdain for corruption in the Church, politicians, and societal standards. In The Canterbury Tales Chaucer indirectly proclaims his views of the Church by giving his characters involved in the Church corrupt personalities and intentions in working for the Church. His characters that work for the Church or claim to serve by God commonly possess avaricious personalities, ultimately interfering with what should be honest and holy work. The Friar, for example is meant to live a life based off charitable donations in the name of religion with a minimalistic style of living. Gender Roles And Expectations Of Romanian Men And Women Under the rule of President Nicolae Ceausescu, the marginalization of women within socialist Romania was strengthened by the government s denial of sexual liberation to women. In Ceausescu s refusal to allow women governance over their bodies, restrictive reproductive policies that emphasized the femininity of women were created. By placing such an importance on femininity and a woman s ability to reproduce, instead of a woman s right of choosing whether to reproduce, Ceausescu s regime solidified the patriarchal and traditionalist ideology of socialist Romania. It is from these patriarchal and traditionalist ideas of Ceausescu that gender constructs concerning the roles and expectations of Romanian men and women were adopted, accepted by governing figures, and forced upon societal members. A nation should not be judged by how it treats its highest citizens, but its lowest ones. The prisons in the United States have been overcrowded for many years and require a change in order to fix this. Some of the main causes for prison overcrowding that will be covered in this paper are mass incarceration, long sentencing, recidivism, and prisoners of drug crimes. Overcrowding of prisons in the United States is a major issue that affects not only the prisoners themselves, but taxpayers and politicians. Although there are many different solutions to prison overcrowding such as building more prisons, alternative and shorter sentences, etc., the issue is still prevalent. Some feel the best way to deal with overcrowding is to build more prisons to accommodate the large influx of prisoners. Others feel the best mode of action to solve this problem is through shorter, and alternative sentencing, which frees up space for serious offenders of the law. This paper argues that shorter, and alternative prison sentences are the most effective way to reduce the prison population in the United States. The book brought disputations between devoted christians and darwinists on the validity of evolution. During that period of time, most Europeans believed that the world was created by God in ... The Scope Trial was an American legal case in 1925 about a high school teacher, John Scopes, teaching evolution. Teaching evolution violated Tennessee s Butler Act, which is an act that made it unlawful to teach evolution in any state funded school, so he ended up in prison. John Scopes was just a believer of evolution, but his belief brought him inconvenience and trouble, because evolution and Christianity were two extreme sides that were not able to make peace and mediate. When Darwin died, he took back what he said about the theory of evolution. He states, How I wish I had not expressed my theory of evolution as I have done, (Moore). Darwin took his theory to his deathbed, because he was attacked by the church for developing the theory of evolution. Although Darwin took his theory back, but he had made us wanting to figure out whether evolution really occurred or not. To determine the validity of evolution, there are different modern technologies now that are able to help us decide if evolution really occurred or not. An example of this can be paleontology. Through paleontology, scientists discovered a famous transitional form call Archaeopteryx. Archaeopteryx is able to provide evidence of an evolutionary pathway from dinosaurs to birds. • 45. Supportive Family Goals Having a supportive family is the most important thing that you can have when you are trying to achieve goals. Without the supporting family, it will be likely that you won t or can t achieve the goals. Many things can help/hinder your progress in achieving these goals such as financial status, social class, levels of education, or even family tradition. Though these things do affect the progress towards these goals, I know that it is still possible to achieve these goals. Race and certain neighborhoods did hinder a lot of people from achieving success, but my mom grew up in a very affluent neighborhood where she saw very successful people which led her to believe that success was easy to obtain. Growing up, my mom had a mom and a dad present in her household, that each had a job, were very supportive and only wanted success for their daughter. At that time, the neighborhood they were in was average which allowed her to see how to be successful and make her strive to be successful. Her parents wouldn t accept anything less than 110% and expected her to be successful. Living in a nicer neighborhood and having a supportive family made it easier for her to continue striving for success. My mom s family was middle class and was ineligible for many of the financial assistance programs, so all of the schooling or programs she took part in she had to work to put herself through. Being with a successful family, this made her journey to becoming successful much easier financially. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. Breakfast of Champions as Social Commentary Essay Matthew Choma English 101 Prof. J. Douglas 4/9/11 Breakfast of Champions: Science Fiction as Social Commentary Vonnegut s symbolic and satirical representation of humans as robots in his novel: Breakfast of Champions is representative of the authors interpretation of world events and conflicting nature of human beings. The renowned author often hits on significant and worrisome themes such as destruction of the planet and overpopulation. His unique and unparallel style includes outrageous and often unrealistic chain of event that are obviously symbolic and relevant to the story as well as the author s attitude on a particular subject matter. For instance in describing when Kilgore Trout writes his stories, he does not save them ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We are introduced into the story as outsiders almost, as if we did not belong to the planet, as if we were not human. This kind of insight creates a whole different kind of attitude on the events that are happening within. Science fiction, theoretically attempts to do just that. To make the ordinary seem strange, in order to provide critique to a specific subject matter in order to let the reader rethink his or her own attitude on the matter at hand. Certainly this is that case here as well. Having this third party perspective allows for us to rethink our entire attitudes on relevant social and secular issues dominating at the time. For instance such a moment that sticks out is the description of women s underwear. And the madness about wide open beavers was extended to underpants when Dwayne and Trout and I were boys. Girls concealed their underpants at all costs, and boys tried to see their underpants at all coasts (Vonnegut, 27). Below the paragraph is a picture of the very underpants he spoke of that portrays, literary, a critique of how insignificant and unworthy the massive social outbursts on debates were on nude or nearly nude depictions of women in popular magazines when compared to other issues that plagued the world. One passage sticks out in particular when it comes to issues that Vonnegut considers relevant: The Creator of the Universe would like to apologize not only for the capricious, ... Wood and Natalie Fixmer Oraiz, there have been three waves of women s movements in the United States alone. The first wave starting as early as 1840, and the third wave still continuing to this very day. However, the first wave, that started in the 1840 s and lasted until around the 1960 s will be the main focus of this paper. This first wave came about as an ideology of liberal feminism. Fixmer Oraiz and Wood describes liberal feminism as the idea that women and men are alike and equal in most respects. Therefore, goes the reasoning they should have equal rights, roles, and opportunities (Gendered Lives, p58). The ideology of liberal feminism is represented profoundly, especially as far as women rights to vote, in the 2004 film Iron Jawed Angels. This paper aims to discuss the first wave of women s movements in the United States as represented in the movie Iron Jawed Angels, as well as the impact of this movement on gender, and an emotional reaction to the movie itself. Before discussing the movie, a brief summary of the first wave, and what it entailed will be provided. The main focus of the first wave was to gain basic civil rights for women. • 48. Should The Responsiveness Of Margaret Thatcher s Time As... There s no doubt that Margaret Thatcher s time as Prime Minister changed the way Britain saw itself and how it was seen on the international stage, but what can be debated is whether or not she was elected due to her own party s strengths, or the weaknesses of the opposition. The years before and during Thatcher s time were fraught for the country, with inflation running high and lots of discontent, displayed not only through strikes but also the via ballot boxes. Thatcher first came to power with a majority of 43 seats for her first government in May 1979, which rose to 144 seats in June 1983 and in June 1987 she received her third victory with a 100 seat margin, a sharp drop from 1983 but still a comprehensive victory.
