Marina Abramovic Research Paper
Marina Abramovic and Ulay is often called the grandmother of performance art In 2005(?), after
parting ways with Ulay both romantically and artistically, Marina Abramovic started a new group of
work Seven Easy Piece. In this work she mostly reenacted performances both hers and other artists
(Marina Abramovic, Kristine Stiles, Klaus Biesenbach, Chrissie Iles). This decision shows Abramovic
desire to find herself a new voice by using those of others. Contrary to her past work she is not the
creator but the actor in those performances. The choice to reanact her piece Thomas Lips whom she
created before meeting Ulay is particularly interesting as it express the desire to trace back who she
was before her heavily emotional collaboration. Abramovic and Ulay s time together had indeed been

a final distance between the personal aspect of her relationship with Ulay and the work they created as

China Labor Watch ( Clw )
CHINA LABOR WATCH Founded by labor activist Li Qiang in 2000, China Labor Watch (CLW) is a
powerful and independent non profit organization dedicated to protecting the workers rights in China.
With the support of the media and the labor organizations, CLW conducts deep investigations and
publishes the reports about the sub standard working conditions and wages in factories in China. The
reports not only create awareness among the world community, but also put pressure on the
corporations to improve conditions for workers.
Apple s Supplier Foxconn, came under intense scrutiny for its suspicious labor practices and suicide
by its fourteen young workers at the Foxconn Shenzhen factory in 2010, followed by the explosion in
Chengdu factory resulting in 3 deaths and sixteen injuries in 2011. In 2010 CLW also reported about
several violations of China labor laws based investigation collected through off site interviews and
from its own staff who had purposefully worked in Foxconn factories as workers to gain real and
accurate information. These reports puts a big question mark on the supplier responsibility reports and
standards set by Apple.
According to CLW, Apple is equally responsible for the China labor law violations and worker
suicides as its goal of profit maximization comes at the cost of brutal working conditions at foxconn
factories. This is because the quality and price of production material used in manufacturing is pre
determined according to the Apple

Literature In The 1920s

US History 4
December 9,2016
Literature in the 1920 s Reading was a very popular thing to do back during the 1920 s. Before radio
and television existed almost all people gained knowledge of the wider world and current events
through books and literature. Literature contributed to society a lot more in the 1920 s than it did
today. Many authors contributed to the learning and shaping of minds young and old by writing books
that would define the time period. Some of these authors were F. Scott Fitzgerald, Ernest Hemingway,
and T.S. Elliot. They defined and shaped the 1920 s by their writings and literature. Francis Scott Key

My Favorite Trip At The Royal Palace Of Henry Viii
What a great weekend, I do not know which was my favorite event. One minute I was at the Royal
Palace of Henry VIII and another minute I was in Stonehenge. No matter what happen, I will
remember this weekend for the rest of my life. Thursday, we all woke up really early to travel to the
Royal Palace of Henry VIII. Our tour guide Heather, gave us the entire tour of the place. My favorite
part of the tour was the clock due to the fact it was a 24 hour clock telling which day, month, and
season it is. After the tour, we had two hours of free time and most of us wanted to see Henry VIII
toilet and all I can say is that toilets during that time was different than the ones now. When we all saw
the toilet, all the frat boys decided to go to the maze and we all race find the exit, which took us three
times longer since we passed by it three time. At the end, we all admit that Ryan Straub Fisher beat all
of us. Following a morning run, I decided to chow down on my first Fish Chips which the fish was so
tender and the batter was cooked spot on. After lunch, we were taken on a long bus journey to
Holbrook house where we are all going to stay for two nights. Tour guide Heather gave us an etiquette
dinner lesson, so they next time I dine with British people, I know what to expect. During dinner we
decided to dress up nicely and that dinner was a fabulous start to my weekend. After a wonderful
selection of Canapes and an Amuse Bouche, Our appetizer was a Wild Mushroom Veloute with

The Self-hatred of Kochan in Confessions of a Mask Essay
The Self hatred of Kochan in Confessions of a Mask
In his semi autobiographical novel, Confessions of a Mask, Yukio Mishima examines the struggle for
acceptance by a man living outside of the socially accepted norms. A motif that strongly pervades this
novel is death and the images of blood associated with it. Kochan, a Japanese adolescent living in post
war Japan, struggles with his homosexuality and his desire to be normal. In order to survive, he must
hide behind a mask of propriety.
At a young age, Kochan shows signs of being attracted to male beauty. His earliest memory is of a
young night soil man with handsome ruddy cheeks and shining eyes (8). Initially, his attraction to men
is confused with a desire to be like them. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One such picture shows a knight mounting a white horse and brandishing his sword, surely facing
death. He reveals his abnormal physical attractions even further when he states, Although as a child I
read every fairy story I could get my hands on, I never liked the princesses. I was fond only of the
princes. I was all the fonder of princes murdered or princes fated to death. I was completely in love
with any youth who was killed (20). Not only does Kochan collect these pictures, but he also modifies
the less violent ones to appetize his sensual desires to the fullest.
Kochan s favorite picture is a reproduction of Guido Reni s St. Sebastian. This picture later influences
the nature of his daydreams. It depicts an almost completely naked youth tied to a tree with his hands
tied above his head. Two arrows pierce his left armpit and his right side while his expression is one of
supreme agony and ecstasy (39). This picture has such a profound effect on Kochan that it leads to his
first ejaculation.
After seeing a troop of soldiers pass by his house as a child, he begins to glorify war and death,
especially his own. His weapons of choice are primitive and savage: arrows, daggers, and spears. He
frequently envisions scenes in which men are brutally stabbed in the stomach, leading to slow and
agonizing deaths the true marker of beauty. As a child

My Personal Reflection Of Diversity
Diversity
This paper is going to cover my personal reflection of what diversity means to me. I will discuss the
messages I learned as a child about various minorities and majorities, and how my views have
changed since then. I will also describe a situation in which diversity directly influenced my life. This
paper will also include reflections of the common read novel The Other Wes Moore: One Name, Two
Fates. I will detail how the main characters experienced diversity. I will give examples of how
diversity changed their lives and which person I personally related to the most.

differing cultures, races, ethnicities, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I believed diversity was something we should want. As an adult I can better understand why many felt
the way they did. Through their own historical trauma, many in my community did not feel diversity
was a good thing because they were taught all white people equal oppressors. As I got older, I realized
the people there purposefully segregated themselves. Sixteen minutes away from my home was a
placed called Chalmette. This town had the larger white community that was upper middle class to
poverty. 12 minutes away was Little Vietnam, where the majority were of Vietnamese immigrants and
their children who all lived on the poverty line. Then there were six neighborhoods, including Plum
Orchard that the majority were African American. This sent the message that people seem to prefer the
company of those most like themselves. Plum Orchard had five white households when we moved in.
Two were elderly people, Maw maw Elsie and Mr. Eddie, who had been there since the late forties.
Maw maw Elsie passed away and Mr. Eddie moved to be closer to family. Then there were three
households with children, all single mothers, and walking the poverty line. Over the course of a few
years, they all moved away due to the increase in gang activity. My family stayed until 2002 when our
home was robbed.
As of today, the messages

1993 World Trade Center Bombing Research Paper
The 1933 World Trade Center Bombing was a terrorist attack on the World Trade Center, carried out
on February 26, 1993, when a truck bomb exploded below the North Tower of the World Trade Center
in New York City. Six suspects carried out this bombing that killed six people and injured more than
1000 people. Ramzi Yousef was one of the main perpetrators of this 1993 bombing. His reasoning
behind it was to get back at the United States for aiding Israel and making the Palestinian people
suffer. The 1993 World Trade Center Bombing impacted America socially, economically, and
politically.
The first way the bombing affected America is socially. At that time this bombing was considered one

Government officials estimated that it would be unlikely that the cost of the bombing reach the record
$15 billion in losses from Hurricane Andrew. However, the destruction will by far exceed the $330
million in losses caused by a flood in downtown Chicago. The 1993 World Trade Center bombing
caused $1.1 billion dollars in insured losses. This includes $317 million in relocation expenses, $318
million in lost business and lost labor, and $79 million in lost retail sales. The bombing shaped up to
be one of New York City s most costly financial disruptions. Business at the World Trade Center had
come to a screeching stop. The bombing affected many businesses, including banks, retail stores,
hotels, restaurants etc. More than 350 businesses hoped that the bombing would be covered by
insurance. Some businesses are concerned that insurers will not pay all their expenses leaving them to
pay for it themselves. Insurance rates drastically increased for businesses inside and outside of New
York City. Stores have seen business drop by 50 to 90 percent, forcing some layoffs. Jon Torres,
manager of Lynn s Hallmark card shop said that his business was off by 92 percent. They opened right
away, but there was no traffic, just a few curious people. Torres had to lay off 21 of his employees. I
had 28 employees, and I m working with about 7. They keep calling to see if they should come in, but
I ve got nothing for them to do, says Torres. Like Torres, many businesses are anxious about when
they will return to normal. The New York Vista Hotel that sits above the site of the explosion, which is
now vacant, is losing $150,000 to $250,000 a day. It may cost more than a couple hundred million to
repair the hotel if the structural damage is severe. Not only did workers and companies leave behind
their offices and records, but they also lost their cars. Don C. Becker, President of The Journal of
Commerce Inc, estimates that

Reasons Why The Driving Age Should Not Be Raised To 18
Most teenagers look forward to the big 16 for numerous reasons. There are lots of factors for this
reason, including, more responsibilities, more independence, and one of the big ones, getting a drivers
licenses. The age limits for driving have been debated on for such a long time now. The age limit for
driving varies according to what country you re living in. In my opinion, the driving age in the United
States should not be raised to age 18 because I believe that age has nothing to do with responsibility,
getting to and from school and curricular activities can be hard without your own transportation, and
not all families have a person eligible to drive.
People believe that the age 16 is too young to have such a big responsibility. In reality

Why didn t he submit his life to the wild instead of continuing to law school and build a life for
himself ? His feelings towards his friends and family are also reemphasized. Overall, he is depicted as
someone who is determined to shut himself off from the rest of the world. By being happy to be on the

Bernard Madoff had full control of the organizational leadership of Bernard Madoff Investments

2008, he acknowledged that his performance was nothing but the Ponzi scheme. He pled guilty to the

The Republican party has a firm belief that any unborn child, like any natural born individual, has the

amendment applies to all unborn children just as well as it does any individual. The Republican party
believes in giving women with pregnancies problems the support and resources needed. However, the
form of support can not be to infringe on the life of the unborn baby. The Republican party does not
promote the tax revenue for abortion;nevertheless, republicans support tax incentives for those who
choose to give the baby up for adoption instead of abortion. The Republican party platform has four
elements. These elements consist of the fetus is a person, the endorsement of a human life, that the
unborn child has a fundamental individual right to life which cannot be infringed upon, and call for a
judge who respects human life. Even though republicans are pro life it does not mean they do not
believe in women s rights, but they are however defending the rights to the unborn child. Democrats

believes in the rights of the women to decide what is to be done with the unborn

The Cinematic Interpretations of The Lord of the Flies by William Golding
The two cinematic versions of William Golding s Lord of the Flies are very different. They still both
deal dramatically with the basic theme, of a group of boys who have come from a strict and ordered
background to becoming like savages, hunting, and killing like blood thirsty animals. The book deals
with issues which relate to the Cold War between the United States of America and Russia which is
better reflected in the Brook version rather than the Harry Hook version. I generally think this is
because at the time when the Brook version was made, the world was under nuclear threat which

One of the most basic and apparent themes is that society holds everyone together, and without these
conditions, our ideals, values and the basics of right and wrong are lost. Without humanity s rigid
rules, anarchy and savagery can come to light. Brook and Hook are also showing as the book does that
morals come directly from our surroundings, and if there is no civilisation around us, we will then lose
these values.
I personally as a young viewer see that Hook s version is more exciting to an audience because it can
be viewed with more technical advances to the film. Also in the Hook version it is easy to see another
theme which is not made that obvious in the Brook version. The fear of the unknown (in this case the
beast is unknown and is put into the boy s heads by their imaginations) can be a powerful force, which
can turn people to either insight or hysteria. The boys end up killing Simon because the happenings
which have occurred have lead them to believe that there is a beast on the island with them, when in
fact it is just the pilot. However the black and white version does have some advantages which the
colour version does not have. These include benefits such as the story, which is virtually the same as
the book so you get the same idea that the book gives you. An additional advantage of the Brook

Fitness For Tennis Research Paper
INTRODUCTION
This paper will be analysing and critiquing a training program designed specifically for pre season
fitness for tennis. Tennis is a sport that requires May different fitness components but the four main
abilities needed to be a successful tennis player include agility, flexibility, speed and muscle power.
These four components are extremely important in tennis, agility is obviously important for a tennis
player as they need to be able to move and change directions around the court quickly and efficiently,
flexibility enables the player to slide and reach for the ball without straining or injuring muscles, speed
is important to the tennis player as they will undoubtedly need to quickly chase down wide balls hit by
the opponent, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The programme also utilises the principle of progressive overload, this can be seen in the plan after
week 3 the sets all increase as do most of the repetitions and the frequency increases adding one extra
day in addition to the previously stated overload and progression techniques which will ensure that the
player continues to develop and enhance their athletic ability. Finally the program does a great job of
keeping the frequency of training consistent and as stated in the last sentence. The programme also has
specific days that cater to developing each section of the body which allows for the previously worked
section to recover, while also preventing any injury to the muscle group by not over exerting one
muscle group. To conclude this programme is good for developing the important fitness components
needed for tennis, the only problem I can see with the programme are created by the restrictions of this

Entire Contract Principle in Construction Industry
Entire Contract Principle in Construction Industry
Entire contract principle is an understanding and agreement that has always been a concern of many
parties in the construction world. Construction activity is activities that constitute a complete unity and
hard to be done partially. A variety of factors make a construction contract different from most other
types of contracts. These include the length of the project, its complexity, its size and the fact that the
price agreed and the amount of work done may change as it proceeds. In Gilbert Ash (Northern) Ltd v
Modern Engineering (Bristol) Ltd [1974] AC 689 at 717 Lord Diplock described a building contract as

The duty of performance under many contracts is contingent upon the occurrence of a designated
condition or promise. A condition is an act or event, other than a lapse of time that affects a duty to
render a promised performance that is specified in a contract. A condition may be viewed as a
qualification placed upon a promise. A promise or duty is absolute or unconditional when it does not
depend on any external events. Nothing but a lapse of time is necessary to make its performance due.
When the time for performance of an unconditional promise arrives, immediate performance is due. A
dependent or conditional promise is not effective until the occurrence of some external event that the
parties have specified. An implied condition is one that the parties should have reasonably
comprehended to be part of the contract because of its presence by implication. The failure to comply
strictly with the terms of a condition will not prevent recovery if there has been substantial
performance of the contractual obligation. Courts created this doctrine in order to prevent forfeitures
and to ensure justice. Where recovery is permitted for substantial performance, it is offset by damages
for injuries caused by failure to render complete performance. Courts determine whether there has
been a breach or a substantial performance of a contract by evaluating the purpose to be served; the

The Light Of Catholic Social Teaching Essay
The Catholic Church believes that human life and human dignity go hand in hand. A threat to one is an
equal threat to the other. The Catechism of the Catholic Church teaches that, The equality of men rests
essentially on their dignity as persons and the rights that flow from it (1935). The Second Vatican
Council in Gaudium et Spes recognized that, ...any kind of social or cultural discrimination in basic
personal rights on the grounds of sex, race, color, social conditions, language or religion, must be
curbed and eradicated as incompatible with God s design (29). In other words, humans were created in
God s image and from that we acquire our dignity and rights because of that holy and sacred origin.
The plan was meant for all to enjoy a basic equality and yet due to sin, the evil of racism has been
allowed to permeate humanity, thus helping to deny human dignity and human rights. In the light of
Catholic social teaching (CST), one asks the questions, in what ways does racism help to deny
mankind its rights and dignity, and what are we as the Church doing to help combat this scourge on
our communities and on society? Whether one calls it racism, xenophobia, or prejudice, all humans
have an innate tendency to pre judge others based external characteristics. This becomes a problem
when we allow these observations to become stereotypes where all of one particular community or
group are broadly painted by these subjective observations, normally negative. As

Compare And Contrast Simon Birch And The Scarlet Ibis
Everyone is born different. Everyone has different expectations that were set for them. It is up to them
to either exceed or fail that expectation. Simon Birch and The Scarlet Ibis both tell the story of two
young boys who were born with disabilities and told they were not to make it past a couple of days. To
everyone s dismay, both of the boys survived longer than anybody expected. Although Simon and
Doodle are characters in two different stories, they have many similarities including both having a
brother figure and both defying the odds by surviving; however, a difference between them is that
Simon always kept his faith in God and himself while Doodle was skeptical and sometimes doubted
his abilities. In Simon Birch, when the main character Simon was born, he was immediately expected
not to survive the night. Everyone, including his parents, thought he would die. He was weaker than
other kids his age and limited in many ways, including his height. None of these obstacles stopped
Simon, as he continued to run, swim, and play baseball. Simon Birch had a best friend, who also acted
as a brotherly figure, named Joe Wentworth. Joe and Simon were both the same age, went to the same
school, and were on the same baseball team. They would have many sleepovers and go swimming in
the lake together on many occasions. Not only did Joe help Simon, but Simon helped Joe. Simon
ultimately helped Joe find his real father and taught him to have faith (Johnson). Simon also defied the

In the other hand, diesel engines are more expensive to keep maintenance because of their sizes of
parts, which require more oil. However, this makes the engine last longer. John Martin states that The
TMC s S.14 Light and Medium Duty Study Group was recently shown comparative maintenance costs
between gasoline engines and turbocharged diesels in service. Although diesel engine service intervals
are longer, most replacement parts and labor costs are significantly higher. Some diesel filters cost ten
times what the equivalent gasoline filter cost. The TMC data showed the diesel s annual maintenance
costs were essentially double those of the gasoline engines.
In conclusion, diesel engines are better than gasoline engines because they produce more power with
less fuel and more life in a diesel engine than the gasoline engine. Finally, diesel engines are better
because they are

The Trope Wild And Desolate Landscapes In The Castle...
Throughout the book Stoker manages to use the trope wild and desolate landscapes as a base and
setting for what occurs throughout the book. Certain settings can be distinguished either by character
or the actions that are taking place. With wild and desolate landscapes it shows and sets up a gloomy
and dark setting which can leave the reader on edge or to think that nothing good can occur there. The
novel starts off with Jonathan traveling to the Count s castle which is in a remote place in
Transylvania. In the words of Stoker in the midst of the Carpathian mountains; one of the wildest and
least known portions of Europe. I was not able to light on any map or work giving the exact locality of
the Castle Dracula (P. 2). The use of this trope sets up the location of where the Count lives and what
kind of person he might be through seeing as to where he is located, a place that cannot be found on
any map. The author further concretes the remote place in which the castle is located when Jonathan
arrives and catches his first glimpse of the place. Stoker writes, In the gloom of the courtyard looked
of considerable size, and as several dark ways led from it under great round arches, it perhaps seemed
bigger than it really is. I have not yet been able to see it by daylight (p.14). Gothic novels always

characters experience something or set up what will occur throughout

It is a well known fact that in the book, Cloud Atlas by David Mitchell, that in Mr. Timothy Cavendish

everyone (teenagers, older people, everyone!) which is especially true and shown in the introduction
of his storyline. Within this novel Mitchell first shows and introduces this chapter with the fact that
poor old Mr.Timothy Cavendish has just been mugged by three teenage girls. How horrid this scene
may be and how embarrassing of an act this must be for an aging man just trying to live his everyday
normal life, which is where we run into another problem; Cavendish refuses to believe and accept that
he is in fact becoming older and has always been a coward in terms of defending himself in any way

easy target he somehow gets himself sucked up into some sort of sadistic rest home for the elderly,

Questions On A Broad Generic Business Strategy
Chapter 6
Discussion Question 6.1
What are some drawbacks and risks to a broad generic business strategy? To a focused strategy?
Having a generic business strategy will cover a vast amount of products or services, but in the end will
not stand out due to it being so broad. With this type of strategy businesses will find themselves in an
undesirable predicament because the consumers of the organization will not have an understanding of
the firms core competencies. Incorporating to many strategies as seen from a cost perspective, is not a
sound solution for any organization to engage upon. That s due to the rise in cost will negatively
impact value created, by suddenly limiting it. Also, not differentiating between products will cause a

Golden Age Of Islam Essay
The Golden Age of Islam
As Western Europe deviated from the chaos of Rome, a golden age began to rise in Islam. It was a
time of peace and knowledge, where economy, art, and cultural works flourished. Where mosques
were covered in elaborate mosaics, where enormous libraries held thousands of books, and where
inventions and innovations were abundant. This golden age was created and made possible by the
perception of God in Islam, the effect of religion, and the growing importance of literacy.
Allah, the one true God of Islam, is transcendent unlike the Christian God who is perceived in human
form. To fathom Allah, one would need intelligence, intuitive knowledge of God, and some sense of
imagination. Allah can be perceived in nature and human epiphanies. This understanding of God, led
the Islamic scholars to be more observant in nature and to discover things on their own. The
fundamental beliefs in Islam can be summarized by the six articles of faith: belief in one God (Allah),
belief in Angels, belief in the Prophets (Adam, Moses, Abraham, Jesus, and Muhammed), belief in the

The Connections Between Renaissance Architecture And...
Renaissance ideas of the relationship of music and cosmology to architecture substantially predate the
15th century and were influential long after it. Discuss.
In this essay, I will not only be discussing at the connections between Renaissance architecture and
cosmology as well as music, but also the what Renaissance architecture is and how it played a key part
in architectural design today. The Renaissance period took place during the early 15th century to early
17th century, the age of Leonardo, Michelangelo, and Raphael. Architects of the time took inspiration
from classical Roman architecture. This means it is an analysis of architecture in the ancient world,
especially ancient Greece and Rome. What the Renaissance learnt from the Romans has how they
used the space, looked at the form and had somewhat accurate measurements. And so, they copied
elements and modified it, for example, many columns having a slightly intruded appearance on walls
to give decoration to the building. They loved looking at the design and proportions and the mainly
thrived in Italy during the early semester. It wasn t until the latter years where Renaissance
architecture started to spread throughout Europe, where many architects were fading from the gothic
style previously used. However, large numbers of buildings incorporated a mixture of Renaissance and
Gothic styles. A famous building built during the Renaissance period is St Peter s Basilica, made in

Semiotics In Romeo And Juliet
This essay will pose as a semiotic analysis of a famous quote from Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet.
Semiotics are commonly used in daily life, but often go unnoticed. Many quotes that are used by
business professionals are quotes from famous writers such as Shakespeare. In Shakespeare s Romeo
and Juliet, the phrase Go wisely and slowly. Those who rush stumble and fall. Resonated with me and
is the phrase that I chose to analyze in this essay. The words and ideas that are signs in the quote are
wisely, slowly, rush, stumble and fall. These words are signs in the quote because each word possesses
an underlying meaning. In this essay, a semiotic analysis of the phrase from Romeo and Juliet will be
provided as it relates to business professionals and what the phrase signifies when used in that context.
Shakespeare suggests that wisely in this context signifies making smart, mature decisions in any given
situation because each decision that is made can excel or hinder future endeavors. The pros and cons
should be weighed before committing, in order to make a sound decision. Without proper information
and guidance, one is essentially ignorant to the task at hand. For example, a mentor may be necessary
because they may have accomplished a goal that you are aiming towards and can give advice on what
you should and shouldn t do while trying to reach your goal.
Furthermore, the word slowly signifies taking your time to accomplish tasks and goals. It takes a great
amount of patience to see how things done now will pay off overall. Great things aren t accomplished
overnight. From a business standpoint, it means that you must work your way to the top. The process
may seem slow, but the progress is in constant evolution in preparation for the outcome. There is a
stigma that has been placed upon individuals by society that to be successful, things must be
accomplished quickly and if they aren t, then it equates to a lessened sense of success in some cases.
Additionally, the word rush is a sign that signifies how sometimes as human beings with our longing
for instant gratification, we tend to want to speed up the process without a second thought. People tend
to rush the process of life to attain temporary happiness which

The Ieee 802 Standard
Introduction
Under the IEEE 802 standard, each one system interface gadget (counting system cards in machines,
versatile Wi Fi empowered gadgets, and in addition individual ports in scaffolds or switches) ought to
have an all around extraordinary 48 bit MAC address. Pieces of locations ought to be bought by an
association to be allotted to the gadgets that association produces. On the other hand, in a few cases a
gadget might not have an internationally extraordinary MAC address. A few purposes behind this
include:
 Counterfeiters don t pay for MAC addresses.
 Low expense system card makers may be allocating their cards arbitrarily created MAC addresses.
 Users or framework chairmen might briefly dole out their gadgets subjective MAC addresses
through programming.
Consequently, two or more gadgets may have the same MAC address. This turns into an issue if the
gadgets with the same MAC location are on the same telecast space (e.g. layer 2 system). On the off
chance that the gadgets are not on the same show space, then no issues emerge, since MAC locations
are not sent through switches in layer 3 of the OSI model.
This task assesses the obliged number of aggregate MAC addresses seen (i.e. example size) important
to discover MAC location clashes or deceitful MAC addresses for three unique circumstances:
 A system interface gadget supplier takes an unallocated square of MAC locations from the IEEE.
 Devices on provincially directed telecast spaces produce their

Judaism Truly Value The Culture Of Non Violence
The wolf shall lie with the lamb and the leopard with the kid. Isaiah 11:6. One of the more commonly
known verses from the Hebrew bible. There are many verses such as this that express the longing for a
culture without violence that is attributed to the ethical values of Judaism. Upon further research
including an ethnographic study it was clear that followers of Judaism truly value the culture of non
violence. It is these ethics and values within the Judaistic tradition for the development of non
violence that are invaluable for contemporary society as they help to create a safer civilisation.
Firstly, the Torah or Hebrew bible has many different examples and teachings on violence, non
violence, punishment and war (Freeman, 2015). Isaiah 2:4 states He will judge between the nations
and will settle disputes for many peoples. They will beat their swords into ploughshares And their
spears into pruning hooks. Nation will not take up sword against nation, nor will they train for war
anymore. The thirst for a world without violence is clearly portrayed in this passage and it appears to
reflect one of the strongest values of Judaism. However in Joel 4:9 10 this idiom is reused in a far
more barbaric manner (Heft, 2004). Announce this to the nations: Proclaim a holy war! Alert the
warriors! Let all the soldiers report and march! Beat your ploughshares into swords, and your pruning
knives into spears; Let the weakling boast, I am a warrior! Of these passages, which shows

Our results. We study the security of password managers and propose ways to improve their security.
We begin with a survey of how ten popular password managers decide when to autofill passwords.
Different password managers employ very different autofill policies, exposing their users to different
risks. Next, we show that many corner cases in autofill policies can lead to significant attacks that
enable remote password extraction without the user s knowledge, simply by having the user connect to
a rogue router at a coffee shop. We believe that password managers can help strengthen credential
security rather than harm it. In Section 5 we propose ways to strengthen password managers so that
users who use them are more secure than users who type in passwords manually. We implemented the
modifications in the Chrome browser and report on their effectiveness. We conclude with a discussion
of related work on password managers. An example. We give many examples of password extraction

The Question Of Human Existence
The question of human existence is a lingering theme in modern philosophy. This controversial
inquiry has led philosophers on tangents about whether or not the mind is separable from the body.
René Descartes, often referred to as the father of modern philosophy, first questioned this idea. The
17th century French philosopher stood out for being an intense rationalist. Rationalism is the belief in
knowledge by thinking reasonably, rather than emotionally. In a time when many philosophers backed
up their arguments with religion, Descartes trusted in nothing more than logic. Due to rapid new
discoveries in science, that were proving many old theories to be wrong, Descartes believed
philosophy needed a fresh start. This fresh start would ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Descartes decides to try to build his foundation on this notion of ridding himself of bias opinions and
allowing himself to fall into a whirlpool of doubt. He receives this idea by reminiscing on past beliefs
that he once believed were right, but are now proven to be wrong. For example, children believe in
Santa Claus, but later find out that he is not real. Descartes goal was to find something he could deem
as undoubtedly true. To do this, he set up three ways to doubt that will help discover if we indeed
exist. On his quest for certainty around the question as to whether we exist, Descartes began by
observing that our human senses are deeply unreliable. He begins by stating, Surely whatever I had
admitted until now as most true I received either from the senses or through the senses (60). He then
goes on to say, However, I have noticed that the senses are sometimes deceptive; and it is a mark of
prudence never to place our complete trust in those who have deceived us even once (60). His aim in
this argument is to show that our knowledge through the senses is open to doubt because in the past
our senses have fooled us. Descartes, living in the time of booming modern science, observed that our
senses have been wrong countless of times. For example, many believed that the earth was flat due to
our sense of sight. One could not see past the horizon, therefore the earth must be level with our
eyesight. Science then proved this

Criminal Justice System And The Law System
INTRODUCTION Developing information suggests that a criminal justice system gains practical
value by generating societal views of fair enforcement and judgement. Particularly, views of practical
fairness resulting in views of the system s legality, may promote systemic compliance with applicable
law, support with legal institutions and actors, and respect to even negative outcomes. A separate
information alludes that a criminal justice system derives realistic value by allocating criminal legal
responsibility and punishment according to principles that trail general instincts of justice.
Distinctively, views of applicable justice resulting in views of the system s ethical credibility would
seem to promote compliance, support, and respect. By contrast, a criminal justice system alleged to be
procedurally unfair or basically unjust may incite resistance and agitation, and may lose its capacity to
control powerful social and normative influence. Trust in the Law by T.R. Tyler and Y. J. Huo pursues
to explain why people eagerly comply with legal authorities. One method by which compliance might
be achieved is through the threat of sanctions that would be associated with noncompliance. This
avoidance approach, the authors indicate, is less optimal than having people consent without
persuasion. Their central notion is that such willingness to comply critically depends upon a strong
sense that legal authorities are legitimate. This sense of legitimacy,

Symptoms And Treatment Of Peptic Ulcer Disease
What is PUD H. Pylori?
In the system of the gastrointestinal tract, there are some conditions that can affect quality of life and
is common. One of these conditions is called peptic ulcer disease (PUD) or also known as H. Pylori
(Helicobacter pylori), which is the bacteria associated with PUD that causes the infection that leads to
PUD. Almost two thirds of the world is affected with this infection, unbeknownst to the host (Moscou,
page 421). This infection is introduced in the body through contaminated sources of food or water. It
also can be transmitted through person to person contact by kissing. Once ingested, buffers are
released and the bacteria is able to survive despite the acidic conditions of the stomach. Most people
do not produce symptoms of the infection, however, there are some that may experience irritation and
tissue damage from overproduction of gastric acids and peptic ulcers. Duodenal ulcers, which form in
the upper region of the small intestines, are more common in younger people. Peptic ulcers tend to be
more common with age as they are more likely to be infected. This disease is treatable and obliteration
of the H. pylori results in ulcer cure and prevention of recurrences (Zoorob, page 243)
Symptoms of PUD The symptoms of the peptic ulcer will depend on the location of it. A gastric ulcer
located in the stomach will result in pain of the upper abdomen approximately 15 to 30 minutes after
consumption of food. Because of the pain, one may be afraid

What Is The Availability And Patterns Of Nutrient Uptake...
The availability and patterns of nutrient uptake in biofilms differs from that of planktonic cells. The
bacterial cells in biofilms exchange nutrients and metabolites by means of water channels between the
micro colonies (Kokare et al., 2009). The microbes living deep within natural biofilms may often
receive low nutrition due to restricted rates of diffusion of nutrients through the biofilm (Petroff et al.,
2011). Biofilms are also known to provide a suitable environment for syntrophic relationships between
the two metabolically distinct bacteria for the exchange of substrates/nutrients (Kokare et al., 2009).
Genetic transfer. The bacteria in biofilms readily take part in gene transfer or exchange of extra
chromosomal DNA (Donlan, 2002). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Few hypotheses have emerged to explain the mechanism of antimicrobial resistance in biofilms. For
example, slow and incomplete penetration of biofilm, presence of resistant phenotype of some
bacteria, formation of persister cells and altered environment within biofilms antagonize antibiotic
action (Dufour et al., 2010; Stewart William Costerton, 2001)
Altered stress response. Bacteria in biofilms can express stress responsive genes in greater amount and
switch to forms that are more tolerant. The existence of common regulators, the presence of
extracellular polymeric substances, and biofilm heterogeneity are major factors by which biofilms
show tolerance against various stressors such as, starvation, heat or cold shock, cell density, pH, and
osmolarity (Dufour et al., 2010; Gambino Cappitelli, 2016).
Quorum sensing. Quorum sensing (QS) is a cell to cell communication mechanism, in which a small
diffusible signal molecule is produced, released, sensed and responded to, by bacterial cells (and
Bassler, 2001; Cvitkovitch, Li, Ellen, 2003; Li Tian, 2012; Waters Bassler, 2005). Different QS
signaling molecules and mechanisms have been explored in various bacterial genera over the years
(Irie Parsek, 2008). When the bacterial population reaches a threshold or quorum level, QS signaling
initiates and the auto inducers bind and trigger functions of target genes

protagonist of a revenge tragedy work desires revenge. Revenge tragedy often sees that the revenger s

Hamlet refrained from killing his own mother, thereby demonstrating Shakespeare s greater respect
for the rules of manner proper to Persons . (Grazia 2003) This philosophical criticism used provides an
understanding to the meaning of the work because it clearly displays the stance Shakespeare had when
it came to philosophy and morals and this could be seen throughout Hamlet as well. Shakespeare is
more able to get his meaning and message of his literary work Hamlet over to the readers by
describing their psyche and their subconscious thoughts, as seen with Hamlet several times.
Psychoanalytic criticism is the idea that literary text express the private unconscious desires of the
author as well as their inner psyche or persona. Shakespeare constructs Hamlet to be a very
psychoanalytic character. The literary text of Hamlet s thoughts tie to his desires and grievances. In the
work, Hamlet tells his father that he will fulfill his father s wishes and get revenge on Claudius, his
uncle. This brings upon the idea of Paternity(his father s wishes) against law as well as religion. The
destress that Shakespeare painted Hamlet to be in(or the literary text) may describe why there was so
much friction between Hamlet following up on his father s wishes. Psychoanalysis is a way to
describe one s subconscious state of mind. Hamlet s fervid, divinizing praise of his

Analysis Of Michael Ondaatje s The Skin Of A Lion
In Michael Ondaatje s In the Skin of a Lion, the play of light and shadow are reoccurring motifs that
identify and relate to the general themes of remembering and forgetting. H. Porter Abbott has defined
motif as a discrete thing, image, or phrase that is repeated in a narrative , where in contrast, a theme is
a more generalized...concept that is suggested by... motifs (237). Abbott emphasizes that Themes are
implicit in motifs, but not the other way around (95). In In the Skin of a Lion, Ondaatje emphasizes
the class struggles endured by the immigrant workers and the internal struggles faced by the central
characters. The motif of chiaroscuro, the play of light and shadow, reflects how the characters try to
forget their past and personal burdens, and strive to recall joyful memories, which aides them in
embracing new beginnings and creating new memories. I will argue that the motif of light relates to
the theme of remembering and the motif of shadow identifies with the theme of forgetting. I will show
these relationships by analyzing the imagery and context of four central scenes in which light and
shadow play a significant role. Firstly, I will discuss the event of the nun falling off the unfinished
bridge. Secondly, I will consider the candle light vigil held for the deceased bridge works. Thirdly, I
will discuss the working conditions of the tunnel workers in the section Palace of Purification , and
lastly, I will analyze the concluding scene in which Patrick and Hana

The Theory Of Knowledge Essay
Theory of knowledge essay
To what extent do the concepts we use shape the conclusions that we reach?
Since my childhood I have always been told Education is the key to success! and there is absolutely
no other way to achieving beyond more than just survival in this fast paced but deeply cruel and
competitive world. That was a concept endlessly hammered into my head by society, it however never
appealed to me simply because of the fact that I found it a concept, something which according to the
Longman dictionary of Contemporary English is defined as an idea of how something is, or how
something should be done.
These, I found, are generated from a seed of contrasting emotions composed of either fear or
negligence within society. In addition, conclusions are known as something one may decide after
considering all the information one has. The purpose of this essay is to explore how concepts impact
conclusions reached by us, through finding ways to dissect and address the knowledge question To
what extent are concepts trustworthy if they change over time? Investigations into how credible and
where these seemingly vital rules and conventions readied to alter our views may originate from will
further be made. Natural sciences plus ethics and history will be Areas of knowledge delved into,
ideas from these will be stimulated by the Woks trio of imagination, emotion and sense perception.
While looking at Natural science, history and ethics, we will see that concepts created

The Image Of Decrepitity In Bram Stoker s Dracula
What Manner of man is this, or what manner of creature is it in the semblance of a man? (Stoker 23).
In Bram Stoker s Dracula, decrepitness is shown by a creature that is slowly decaying and the only
way to be youthful or to be rejuvenated is to take the life of others and send them to an endless life of
decay. This creature, Dracula, preys on the weaker, perfect Victorian. In the epistolary novel, Dracula,
Bram Stoker drills an image of decay and destruction into the audience to show juxtaposition between
Victorian ideals and Dracula.
The ideal of the Lady...is easier to discuss than to define (Elliott A Lady to the End: The Case of Isabel
Vane ). This quote from author, Jeanne B. Elliot, is a simple way of expressing the ideal of the Lady in
the Victorian ages. Furthermore, this statement can be used to show juxtaposition to Dracula. As a
matter of fact, in order to understand the contrasting ideals, from Dracula and his pursuers, one must
grasp the knowledge of the geographical and cultural construction of Europe. To start with, Dracula is
located in Eastern Europe. Additionally, Eastern Europe is seen as a place in which literature is
depicted as:
...a setting which is sufficiently close to the reader to appear threatening [while still being alien
enough] to house exotic paraphernalia the castles, the convents, the caverns, the dark forests at
midnight, mysterious villains and he howling specters. (Raspe)
Interestingly enough, this perspective of the east came from popularization of Eastern Europe
literature in Western Europe. Furthermore, this idea becomes concrete when one looks at the
geography of these two opposing regions. Not only are these two countries polar opposites in
geographical context but in the way each region expresses the opposing sides in literature. On the side
of the West, people are honing in on the act of expanding the mental map. Additionally, this group of
people are more entrenched in the idea of increasing their depth of knowledge for personal gain. When
connected to Dracula, it becomes clear that the pursuers, Mina, Jonathan, Lord Godalming, Van
Helsing, and Quincey, are in the Western part of Europe and are more apt to accept the idea of
expansion of the mind. On the contrary,

Human Looping Research Paper
II: Variant of the Looping Effects of Human Kinds
In the above I have introduced the concept of Hacking s looping effects of human kinds and defended
it against a couple of common criticisms. I will now modify the concept in order to make it useful for
the case in question. I will then show that this concept remains intelligible.
Namely, what I am proposing to do is to remove condition (iii) from Hacking s schema and replace it
with a similar concept. (iii) being:
[A designation which] we hope to have knowledge about, so we study them in the human and social
sciences.
My motivation for altering this condition for my use is that instead of the term used by the social
scientist to refer to a class of people I am instead referring to words which ... Show more content on

Queer was first used in reference to sexuality in the 1920s by homosexual men who rejected the
effeminacy connected with the term fairy (Brontsema, 2004). Over the course of the early to mid
twentieth century both the terms fairy and queer fell out of fashion with the male homosexual
community and gay became the most popular self ascription for homosexual men (Brontsema, 2004).
Around the mid to late twentieth century queer was primarily used as a derogatory term, levelled at
homosexual people in general (Brontsema, 2004). Towards the end of the 1980s some within the
LGBT community began to push for the reclamation of the word queer. One such group were Queer
Nation an offshoot of the group ACT UP (AIDS Coalition to Unleash Power) (Brontsema, 2004). At
the 1990 New York Gay Pride the group handed out leaflets headed Queers Read This (QUEERS
READ THIS, 1990). In the pamphlet they addressed their use of the term queer saying every gay
person has his or her own take on it... for some it means eccentric...and for others queer conjures up
those awful memories . But what Queer Nation emphasise is that it should be the gay community who
get to decide what the word means; it s a weapon we can steal from the homophobe s hand and use it
against him . They also emphasise the fact that it is them who decides the meaning and the value
ascribed to it saying queer means leading a different sort of life ,

  • 2. Marina Abramovic Research Paper Marina Abramovic and Ulay is often called the grandmother of performance art In 2005(?), after parting ways with Ulay both romantically and artistically, Marina Abramovic started a new group of work Seven Easy Piece. In this work she mostly reenacted performances both hers and other artists (Marina Abramovic, Kristine Stiles, Klaus Biesenbach, Chrissie Iles). This decision shows Abramovic desire to find herself a new voice by using those of others. Contrary to her past work she is not the creator but the actor in those performances. The choice to reanact her piece Thomas Lips whom she created before meeting Ulay is particularly interesting as it express the desire to trace back who she was before her heavily emotional collaboration. Abramovic and Ulay s time together had indeed been They were born on the same day (November 30th) and thus felt as if they had just found a long lost sibling. China Labor Watch ( Clw ) CHINA LABOR WATCH Founded by labor activist Li Qiang in 2000, China Labor Watch (CLW) is a powerful and independent non profit organization dedicated to protecting the workers rights in China. With the support of the media and the labor organizations, CLW conducts deep investigations and publishes the reports about the sub standard working conditions and wages in factories in China. The reports not only create awareness among the world community, but also put pressure on the corporations to improve conditions for workers. Apple s Supplier Foxconn, came under intense scrutiny for its suspicious labor practices and suicide by its fourteen young workers at the Foxconn Shenzhen factory in 2010, followed by the explosion in Chengdu factory resulting in 3 deaths and sixteen injuries in 2011. In 2010 CLW also reported about several violations of China labor laws based investigation collected through off site interviews and from its own staff who had purposefully worked in Foxconn factories as workers to gain real and accurate information. These reports puts a big question mark on the supplier responsibility reports and standards set by Apple. According to CLW, Apple is equally responsible for the China labor law violations and worker suicides as its goal of profit maximization comes at the cost of brutal working conditions at foxconn factories. This is because the quality and price of production material used in manufacturing is pre determined according to the Apple ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Before radio and television existed almost all people gained knowledge of the wider world and current events through books and literature. Literature contributed to society a lot more in the 1920 s than it did today. Many authors contributed to the learning and shaping of minds young and old by writing books that would define the time period. Some of these authors were F. Scott Fitzgerald, Ernest Hemingway, and T.S. Elliot. They defined and shaped the 1920 s by their writings and literature. Francis Scott Key Fitzgerald born on September 24, 1896, formerly known as F. • 5. My Favorite Trip At The Royal Palace Of Henry Viii What a great weekend, I do not know which was my favorite event. One minute I was at the Royal Palace of Henry VIII and another minute I was in Stonehenge. No matter what happen, I will remember this weekend for the rest of my life. Thursday, we all woke up really early to travel to the Royal Palace of Henry VIII. Our tour guide Heather, gave us the entire tour of the place. My favorite part of the tour was the clock due to the fact it was a 24 hour clock telling which day, month, and season it is. After the tour, we had two hours of free time and most of us wanted to see Henry VIII toilet and all I can say is that toilets during that time was different than the ones now. When we all saw the toilet, all the frat boys decided to go to the maze and we all race find the exit, which took us three times longer since we passed by it three time. At the end, we all admit that Ryan Straub Fisher beat all of us. Following a morning run, I decided to chow down on my first Fish Chips which the fish was so tender and the batter was cooked spot on. After lunch, we were taken on a long bus journey to Holbrook house where we are all going to stay for two nights. Tour guide Heather gave us an etiquette dinner lesson, so they next time I dine with British people, I know what to expect. During dinner we decided to dress up nicely and that dinner was a fabulous start to my weekend. • 6. The Self-hatred of Kochan in Confessions of a Mask Essay The Self hatred of Kochan in Confessions of a Mask In his semi autobiographical novel, Confessions of a Mask, Yukio Mishima examines the struggle for acceptance by a man living outside of the socially accepted norms. A motif that strongly pervades this novel is death and the images of blood associated with it. Kochan, a Japanese adolescent living in post war Japan, struggles with his homosexuality and his desire to be normal. In order to survive, he must hide behind a mask of propriety. At a young age, Kochan shows signs of being attracted to male beauty. His earliest memory is of a young night soil man with handsome ruddy cheeks and shining eyes (8). Initially, his attraction to men is confused with a desire to be like them. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One such picture shows a knight mounting a white horse and brandishing his sword, surely facing death. He reveals his abnormal physical attractions even further when he states, Although as a child I read every fairy story I could get my hands on, I never liked the princesses. I was fond only of the princes. I was all the fonder of princes murdered or princes fated to death. I was completely in love with any youth who was killed (20). Not only does Kochan collect these pictures, but he also modifies the less violent ones to appetize his sensual desires to the fullest. Kochan s favorite picture is a reproduction of Guido Reni s St. Sebastian. This picture later influences the nature of his daydreams. It depicts an almost completely naked youth tied to a tree with his hands tied above his head. Two arrows pierce his left armpit and his right side while his expression is one of supreme agony and ecstasy (39). This picture has such a profound effect on Kochan that it leads to his first ejaculation. After seeing a troop of soldiers pass by his house as a child, he begins to glorify war and death, especially his own. His weapons of choice are primitive and savage: arrows, daggers, and spears. He frequently envisions scenes in which men are brutally stabbed in the stomach, leading to slow and agonizing deaths the true marker of beauty. As a child ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Through their own historical trauma, many in my community did not feel diversity was a good thing because they were taught all white people equal oppressors. As I got older, I realized the people there purposefully segregated themselves. Sixteen minutes away from my home was a placed called Chalmette. This town had the larger white community that was upper middle class to poverty. 12 minutes away was Little Vietnam, where the majority were of Vietnamese immigrants and their children who all lived on the poverty line. Then there were six neighborhoods, including Plum Orchard that the majority were African American. This sent the message that people seem to prefer the company of those most like themselves. Plum Orchard had five white households when we moved in. Two were elderly people, Maw maw Elsie and Mr. Eddie, who had been there since the late forties. Maw maw Elsie passed away and Mr. Eddie moved to be closer to family. Then there were three households with children, all single mothers, and walking the poverty line. The Cinematic Interpretations of The Lord of the Flies by William Golding The two cinematic versions of William Golding s Lord of the Flies are very different. The book deals with issues which relate to the Cold War between the United States of America and Russia which is better reflected in the Brook version rather than the Harry Hook version. One of the most basic and apparent themes is that society holds everyone together, and without these conditions, our ideals, values and the basics of right and wrong are lost. Without humanity s rigid rules, anarchy and savagery can come to light. Brook and Hook are also showing as the book does that morals come directly from our surroundings, and if there is no civilisation around us, we will then lose these values. I personally as a young viewer see that Hook s version is more exciting to an audience because it can be viewed with more technical advances to the film. Also in the Hook version it is easy to see another theme which is not made that obvious in the Brook version. The fear of the unknown (in this case the beast is unknown and is put into the boy s heads by their imaginations) can be a powerful force, which can turn people to either insight or hysteria. The boys end up killing Simon because the happenings which have occurred have lead them to believe that there is a beast on the island with them, when in fact it is just the pilot. However the black and white version does have some advantages which the colour version does not have. These include benefits such as the story, which is virtually the same as the book so you get the same idea that the book gives you. An additional advantage of the Brook cinematic ... These four components are extremely important in tennis, agility is obviously important for a tennis player as they need to be able to move and change directions around the court quickly and efficiently, flexibility enables the player to slide and reach for the ball without straining or injuring muscles, speed is important to the tennis player as they will undoubtedly need to quickly chase down wide balls hit by the opponent, ... Finally the program does a great job of keeping the frequency of training consistent and as stated in the last sentence. The programme also has specific days that cater to developing each section of the body which allows for the previously worked section to recover, while also preventing any injury to the muscle group by not over exerting one muscle group. A condition is an act or event, other than a lapse of time that affects a duty to render a promised performance that is specified in a contract. A condition may be viewed as a qualification placed upon a promise. A promise or duty is absolute or unconditional when it does not depend on any external events. Nothing but a lapse of time is necessary to make its performance due. When the time for performance of an unconditional promise arrives, immediate performance is due. A dependent or conditional promise is not effective until the occurrence of some external event that the parties have specified. An implied condition is one that the parties should have reasonably comprehended to be part of the contract because of its presence by implication. The failure to comply strictly with the terms of a condition will not prevent recovery if there has been substantial performance of the contractual obligation. Courts created this doctrine in order to prevent forfeitures and to ensure justice. • 17. The Light Of Catholic Social Teaching Essay The Catholic Church believes that human life and human dignity go hand in hand. A threat to one is an equal threat to the other. The Catechism of the Catholic Church teaches that, The equality of men rests essentially on their dignity as persons and the rights that flow from it (1935). The Second Vatican Council in Gaudium et Spes recognized that, ...any kind of social or cultural discrimination in basic personal rights on the grounds of sex, race, color, social conditions, language or religion, must be curbed and eradicated as incompatible with God s design (29). In other words, humans were created in God s image and from that we acquire our dignity and rights because of that holy and sacred origin. The plan was meant for all to enjoy a basic equality and yet due to sin, the evil of racism has been allowed to permeate humanity, thus helping to deny human dignity and human rights. In the light of Catholic social teaching (CST), one asks the questions, in what ways does racism help to deny mankind its rights and dignity, and what are we as the Church doing to help combat this scourge on our communities and on society? Whether one calls it racism, xenophobia, or prejudice, all humans have an innate tendency to pre judge others based external characteristics. Simon Birch and The Scarlet Ibis both tell the story of two young boys who were born with disabilities and told they were not to make it past a couple of days. To everyone s dismay, both of the boys survived longer than anybody expected. Although Simon and Doodle are characters in two different stories, they have many similarities including both having a brother figure and both defying the odds by surviving; however, a difference between them is that Simon always kept his faith in God and himself while Doodle was skeptical and sometimes doubted his abilities. In Simon Birch, when the main character Simon was born, he was immediately expected not to survive the night. Everyone, including his parents, thought he would die. He was weaker than other kids his age and limited in many ways, including his height. None of these obstacles stopped Simon, as he continued to run, swim, and play baseball. Simon Birch had a best friend, who also acted as a brotherly figure, named Joe Wentworth. Joe and Simon were both the same age, went to the same school, and were on the same baseball team. Throughout the book Stoker manages to use the trope wild and desolate landscapes as a base and setting for what occurs throughout the book. Certain settings can be distinguished either by character or the actions that are taking place. With wild and desolate landscapes it shows and sets up a gloomy and dark setting which can leave the reader on edge or to think that nothing good can occur there. The novel starts off with Jonathan traveling to the Count s castle which is in a remote place in Transylvania. In the words of Stoker in the midst of the Carpathian mountains; one of the wildest and least known portions of Europe. I was not able to light on any map or work giving the exact locality of the Castle Dracula (P. 2). It was a time of peace and knowledge, where economy, art, and cultural works flourished. Where mosques were covered in elaborate mosaics, where enormous libraries held thousands of books, and where inventions and innovations were abundant. This golden age was created and made possible by the perception of God in Islam, the effect of religion, and the growing importance of literacy. Allah, the one true God of Islam, is transcendent unlike the Christian God who is perceived in human form. To fathom Allah, one would need intelligence, intuitive knowledge of God, and some sense of imagination. Allah can be perceived in nature and human epiphanies. This understanding of God, led the Islamic scholars to be more observant in nature and to discover things on their own. Renaissance ideas of the relationship of music and cosmology to architecture substantially predate the 15th century and were influential long after it. Discuss. In this essay, I will not only be discussing at the connections between Renaissance architecture and cosmology as well as music, but also the what Renaissance architecture is and how it played a key part in architectural design today. The Renaissance period took place during the early 15th century to early 17th century, the age of Leonardo, Michelangelo, and Raphael. Architects of the time took inspiration from classical Roman architecture. This means it is an analysis of architecture in the ancient world, especially ancient Greece and Rome. What the Renaissance learnt from the Romans has how they used the space, looked at the form and had somewhat accurate measurements. And so, they copied elements and modified it, for example, many columns having a slightly intruded appearance on walls to give decoration to the building. They loved looking at the design and proportions and the mainly thrived in Italy during the early semester. It wasn t until the latter years where Renaissance architecture started to spread throughout Europe, where many architects were fading from the gothic style previously used. However, large numbers of buildings incorporated a mixture of Renaissance and Gothic styles. • 28. Semiotics In Romeo And Juliet This essay will pose as a semiotic analysis of a famous quote from Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet. Semiotics are commonly used in daily life, but often go unnoticed. Many quotes that are used by business professionals are quotes from famous writers such as Shakespeare. In Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet, the phrase Go wisely and slowly. Those who rush stumble and fall. Resonated with me and is the phrase that I chose to analyze in this essay. The words and ideas that are signs in the quote are wisely, slowly, rush, stumble and fall. These words are signs in the quote because each word possesses an underlying meaning. In this essay, a semiotic analysis of the phrase from Romeo and Juliet will be provided as it relates to business professionals and what the phrase signifies when used in that context. Shakespeare suggests that wisely in this context signifies making smart, mature decisions in any given situation because each decision that is made can excel or hinder future endeavors. The pros and cons should be weighed before committing, in order to make a sound decision. Without proper information and guidance, one is essentially ignorant to the task at hand. For example, a mentor may be necessary because they may have accomplished a goal that you are aiming towards and can give advice on what you should and shouldn t do while trying to reach your goal. Furthermore, the word slowly signifies taking your time to accomplish tasks and goals. It takes a great amount of patience to see how things done now will pay off overall. Great things aren t accomplished overnight. From a business standpoint, it means that you must work your way to the top. The process may seem slow, but the progress is in constant evolution in preparation for the outcome. There is a stigma that has been placed upon individuals by society that to be successful, things must be accomplished quickly and if they aren t, then it equates to a lessened sense of success in some cases. Additionally, the word rush is a sign that signifies how sometimes as human beings with our longing for instant gratification, we tend to want to speed up the process without a second thought. Upon further research including an ethnographic study it was clear that followers of Judaism truly value the culture of non violence. It is these ethics and values within the Judaistic tradition for the development of non violence that are invaluable for contemporary society as they help to create a safer civilisation. Firstly, the Torah or Hebrew bible has many different examples and teachings on violence, non violence, punishment and war (Freeman, 2015). Isaiah 2:4 states He will judge between the nations and will settle disputes for many peoples. They will beat their swords into ploughshares And their spears into pruning hooks. Nation will not take up sword against nation, nor will they train for war anymore. The thirst for a world without violence is clearly portrayed in this passage and it appears to reflect one of the strongest values of Judaism. However in Joel 4:9 10 this idiom is reused in a far more barbaric manner (Heft, 2004). Announce this to the nations: Proclaim a holy war! Alert the warriors! Let all the soldiers report and march! This controversial inquiry has led philosophers on tangents about whether or not the mind is separable from the body. René Descartes, often referred to as the father of modern philosophy, first questioned this idea. The 17th century French philosopher stood out for being an intense rationalist. Rationalism is the belief in knowledge by thinking reasonably, rather than emotionally. In a time when many philosophers backed up their arguments with religion, Descartes trusted in nothing more than logic. Due to rapid new discoveries in science, that were proving many old theories to be wrong, Descartes believed philosophy needed a fresh start. This fresh start would ... He receives this idea by reminiscing on past beliefs that he once believed were right, but are now proven to be wrong. For example, children believe in Santa Claus, but later find out that he is not real. Descartes goal was to find something he could deem as undoubtedly true. To do this, he set up three ways to doubt that will help discover if we indeed exist. On his quest for certainty around the question as to whether we exist, Descartes began by observing that our human senses are deeply unreliable. He begins by stating, Surely whatever I had admitted until now as most true I received either from the senses or through the senses (60). He then goes on to say, However, I have noticed that the senses are sometimes deceptive; and it is a mark of prudence never to place our complete trust in those who have deceived us even once (60). His aim in this argument is to show that our knowledge through the senses is open to doubt because in the past our senses have fooled us. Descartes, living in the time of booming modern science, observed that our senses have been wrong countless of times. For example, many believed that the earth was flat due to our sense of sight. Criminal Justice System And The Law System INTRODUCTION Developing information suggests that a criminal justice system gains practical value by generating societal views of fair enforcement and judgement. Particularly, views of practical fairness resulting in views of the system s legality, may promote systemic compliance with applicable law, support with legal institutions and actors, and respect to even negative outcomes. A separate information alludes that a criminal justice system derives realistic value by allocating criminal legal responsibility and punishment according to principles that trail general instincts of justice. Distinctively, views of applicable justice resulting in views of the system s ethical credibility would seem to promote compliance, support, and respect. By contrast, a criminal justice system alleged to be procedurally unfair or basically unjust may incite resistance and agitation, and may lose its capacity to control powerful social and normative influence. Trust in the Law by T.R. Tyler and Y. J. Huo pursues to explain why people eagerly comply with legal authorities. One method by which compliance might be achieved is through the threat of sanctions that would be associated with noncompliance. One of these conditions is called peptic ulcer disease (PUD) or also known as H. Pylori (Helicobacter pylori), which is the bacteria associated with PUD that causes the infection that leads to PUD. Almost two thirds of the world is affected with this infection, unbeknownst to the host (Moscou, page 421). This infection is introduced in the body through contaminated sources of food or water. It also can be transmitted through person to person contact by kissing. Once ingested, buffers are released and the bacteria is able to survive despite the acidic conditions of the stomach. Most people do not produce symptoms of the infection, however, there are some that may experience irritation and tissue damage from overproduction of gastric acids and peptic ulcers. Duodenal ulcers, which form in the upper region of the small intestines, are more common in younger people. Peptic ulcers tend to be more common with age as they are more likely to be infected. This disease is treatable and obliteration of the H. pylori results in ulcer cure and prevention of recurrences (Zoorob, page 243) Symptoms of PUD The symptoms of the peptic ulcer will depend on the location of it. The bacterial cells in biofilms exchange nutrients and metabolites by means of water channels between the micro colonies (Kokare et al., 2009). The microbes living deep within natural biofilms may often receive low nutrition due to restricted rates of diffusion of nutrients through the biofilm (Petroff et al., 2011). Biofilms are also known to provide a suitable environment for syntrophic relationships between the two metabolically distinct bacteria for the exchange of substrates/nutrients (Kokare et al., 2009). Bacteria in biofilms can express stress responsive genes in greater amount and switch to forms that are more tolerant. The existence of common regulators, the presence of extracellular polymeric substances, and biofilm heterogeneity are major factors by which biofilms show tolerance against various stressors such as, starvation, heat or cold shock, cell density, pH, and osmolarity (Dufour et al., 2010; Gambino Cappitelli, 2016). Using technology Justin was able to broadcast his talent to the world, get discovered, and to create a fanbase. These things were eventually the foundations for his fame. To this day his original fans continue to be his biggest supporters and they help to keep him successful. Not only was he blessed in his rise to fame, but the speed in which he achieved it all is remarkable as well. Without the Internet and technology his probability of ever getting the chance to meet any of those big name record labels would have been next to zero and his fanbase would probably have never have achieved the size that it is now. Perhaps an even greater example of technology s influence on the music industry is told with the story of the british boyband One Direction. They were first introduced to the world when they appeared as individual contestants on the U.K. s The X Factor, but as individual contestants they didn t make it very far in the competition. Their first lucky break from even being ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. Does My Island Have A Free Market Economy I think that my island has a free market economy. The government controls very little of my island. The production of products is based on supply and demand at that time. Also, we are not organized by a certain authority, unlike a command economy. The people own the land and resources. Prices are set by the seller, based on supply and demand, they go up and down naturally. There are no restrictions set by the government on pricing and how much or too little to sell. The United States has a capitalist economy. That means that trade and industry are controlled by private owners for profit. My island has a market economy. One similarity is that both economies have little or no control from the government. Also, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. Examples Of Revenge Tragedy In Hamlet A lot of Shakespeare s plays allude to revenge and revenge tragedy. Revenge tragedy is seeking revenge for wrongdoings done against someone in a literary work. Usually, the person seeking this revenge is the protagonist and the plot is usually developed throughout their journey to get their rightful revenge. Revenge tragedy is also the central conflict within a literary work. In the play, Hamlet,Young Fortinbras, and Laertes are all examples of revenge tragedy. Hamlet ironically isn t a person that shows to have the desire of seeking revenge and this is ironic because most of the time the protagonist of a revenge tragedy work desires revenge. Hamlet refrained from killing his own mother, thereby demonstrating Shakespeare s greater respect for the rules of manner proper to Persons . (Grazia 2003) This philosophical criticism used provides an understanding to the meaning of the work because it clearly displays the stance Shakespeare had when it came to philosophy and morals and this could be seen throughout Hamlet as well. Shakespeare is more able to get his meaning and message of his literary work Hamlet over to the readers by describing their psyche and their subconscious thoughts, as seen with Hamlet several times. Psychoanalytic criticism is the idea that literary text express the private unconscious desires of the author as well as their inner psyche or persona. Shakespeare constructs Hamlet to be a very psychoanalytic character. The literary text of Hamlet s thoughts tie to his desires and grievances. In the work, Hamlet tells his father that he will fulfill his father s wishes and get revenge on Claudius, his uncle. This brings upon the idea of Paternity(his father s wishes) against law as well as religion. The destress that Shakespeare painted Hamlet to be in(or the literary text) may describe why there was so much friction between Hamlet following up on his father s wishes. Analysis Of Michael Ondaatje s The Skin Of A Lion In Michael Ondaatje s In the Skin of a Lion, the play of light and shadow are reoccurring motifs that identify and relate to the general themes of remembering and forgetting. H. Porter Abbott has defined motif as a discrete thing, image, or phrase that is repeated in a narrative , where in contrast, a theme is a more generalized...concept that is suggested by... motifs (237). Abbott emphasizes that Themes are implicit in motifs, but not the other way around (95). In In the Skin of a Lion, Ondaatje emphasizes the class struggles endured by the immigrant workers and the internal struggles faced by the central characters. The motif of chiaroscuro, the play of light and shadow, reflects how the characters try to forget their past and personal burdens, and strive to recall joyful memories, which aides them in embracing new beginnings and creating new memories. I will argue that the motif of light relates to the theme of remembering and the motif of shadow identifies with the theme of forgetting. I will show these relationships by analyzing the imagery and context of four central scenes in which light and shadow play a significant role. Firstly, I will discuss the event of the nun falling off the unfinished bridge. Secondly, I will consider the candle light vigil held for the deceased bridge works. Thirdly, I will discuss the working conditions of the tunnel workers in the section Palace of Purification , and lastly, I will analyze the concluding scene in which Patrick and Hana ... • 45. The Theory Of Knowledge Essay Theory of knowledge essay To what extent do the concepts we use shape the conclusions that we reach? Since my childhood I have always been told Education is the key to success! and there is absolutely no other way to achieving beyond more than just survival in this fast paced but deeply cruel and competitive world. That was a concept endlessly hammered into my head by society, it however never appealed to me simply because of the fact that I found it a concept, something which according to the Longman dictionary of Contemporary English is defined as an idea of how something is, or how something should be done. These, I found, are generated from a seed of contrasting emotions composed of either fear or negligence within society. In addition, conclusions are known as something one may decide after considering all the information one has. The purpose of this essay is to explore how concepts impact conclusions reached by us, through finding ways to dissect and address the knowledge question To what extent are concepts trustworthy if they change over time? Investigations into how credible and where these seemingly vital rules and conventions readied to alter our views may originate from will further be made. Natural sciences plus ethics and history will be Areas of knowledge delved into, ideas from these will be stimulated by the Woks trio of imagination, emotion and sense perception. • 47. The Image Of Decrepitity In Bram Stoker s Dracula What Manner of man is this, or what manner of creature is it in the semblance of a man? (Stoker 23). In Bram Stoker s Dracula, decrepitness is shown by a creature that is slowly decaying and the only way to be youthful or to be rejuvenated is to take the life of others and send them to an endless life of decay. This creature, Dracula, preys on the weaker, perfect Victorian. In the epistolary novel, Dracula, Bram Stoker drills an image of decay and destruction into the audience to show juxtaposition between Victorian ideals and Dracula. The ideal of the Lady...is easier to discuss than to define (Elliott A Lady to the End: The Case of Isabel Vane ). This quote from author, Jeanne B. Elliot, is a simple way of expressing the ideal of the Lady in the Victorian ages. Furthermore, this statement can be used to show juxtaposition to Dracula. As a matter of fact, in order to understand the contrasting ideals, from Dracula and his pursuers, one must grasp the knowledge of the geographical and cultural construction of Europe. To start with, Dracula is located in Eastern Europe. Additionally, Eastern Europe is seen as a place in which literature is depicted as: ...a setting which is sufficiently close to the reader to appear threatening [while still being alien enough] to house exotic paraphernalia the castles, the convents, the caverns, the dark forests at midnight, mysterious villains and he howling specters. (Raspe) Interestingly enough, this perspective of the east came from popularization of Eastern Europe literature in Western Europe. Furthermore, this idea becomes concrete when one looks at the geography of these two opposing regions. Not only are these two countries polar opposites in geographical context but in the way each region expresses the opposing sides in literature. On the side of the West, people are honing in on the act of expanding the mental map. Additionally, this group of people are more entrenched in the idea of increasing their depth of knowledge for personal gain. When connected to Dracula, it becomes clear that the pursuers, Mina, Jonathan, Lord Godalming, Van Helsing, and Quincey, are in the Western part of Europe and are more apt to accept the idea of expansion of the mind. • 48. Human Looping Research Paper II: Variant of the Looping Effects of Human Kinds In the above I have introduced the concept of Hacking s looping effects of human kinds and defended it against a couple of common criticisms. I will now modify the concept in order to make it useful for the case in question. I will then show that this concept remains intelligible. Namely, what I am proposing to do is to remove condition (iii) from Hacking s schema and replace it with a similar concept. (iii) being: [A designation which] we hope to have knowledge about, so we study them in the human and social sciences. My motivation for altering this condition for my use is that instead of the term used by the social scientist to refer to a class of people I am instead referring to words which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Queer was first used in reference to sexuality in the 1920s by homosexual men who rejected the effeminacy connected with the term fairy (Brontsema, 2004). Over the course of the early to mid twentieth century both the terms fairy and queer fell out of fashion with the male homosexual community and gay became the most popular self ascription for homosexual men (Brontsema, 2004). Around the mid to late twentieth century queer was primarily used as a derogatory term, levelled at homosexual people in general (Brontsema, 2004). Towards the end of the 1980s some within the LGBT community began to push for the reclamation of the word queer. One such group were Queer Nation an offshoot of the group ACT UP (AIDS Coalition to Unleash Power) (Brontsema, 2004). At the 1990 New York Gay Pride the group handed out leaflets headed Queers Read This (QUEERS READ THIS, 1990). In the pamphlet they addressed their use of the term queer saying every gay person has his or her own take on it... for some it means eccentric...and for others queer conjures up those awful memories . But what Queer Nation emphasise is that it should be the gay community who get to decide what the word means; it s a weapon we can steal from the homophobe s hand and use it against him . They also emphasise the fact that it is them who decides the meaning and the value ascribed to it saying queer means leading a different sort of life , ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
