Separation Between the Narration in Response to...
In reading Frankenstein, by Mary Shelly, a motif of distance and separateness can be discerned from
the text. In the structure of the narrative, the reader is distant from the action. The setting of the
narrative is situated often in isolated and nearly inaccessible areas, creating separateness between the
action of the story and the everyday world. The Frankenstein monster is remote compared to the rest
of world by narrative structure, geographic area, and his namelessness. The reader must look through
several lenses throughout the novel. The letters that begin the book are addressed to Mrs. Saville from
Robert Walton. So already in the beginning, the reader is asked to participate in voyeurism, looking in
on a world through letters ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The light of the story is passing through the lenses of Robert Walton, Victor Frankenstein, and finally
the antagonist of the story: the nameless Frankenstein monster. Shelly gradually drops these lenses
once again until we are back to Walton s letters to Mrs. Saville. The three main lenses of this narration
are also separate in space from the rest of humanity for the majority of this novel. Walton first sees the
Frankenstein monster and then Victor on his voyage north into the ice. It is only these two creatures,
and the adventurers of Walton s crew that would travel this far away from the comfort and
companionship of humanity. The first spoken encounter between Frankenstein and his monster occurs
on the icy glacier in the Swiss Alps near the source of the Arveiron. After Victor s ascent into the
mountains he is confronted by the monster and is led to an even higher peak to the hut of the monster
where the he begins his tale. The monster exists outside the sphere of humanity, right on the fringe. He
spends his formative months in the woods or inside his hiding place outside the cottage of the exiled
French Nationals. The only people who ever hear the monster are Victor, the blind father of the
cottage, and William right before he dies. The rest of humanity, even if the monster tries to speak, is
unable to hear him. The monster is so far from what is right and normal that the capacity for
understanding is not within the grasp of normal human experience. The

Events, Conferences Exhibitions
Unit 17 Events, conferences amp; exhibitions Update on events, conferences and exhibitions P1, P2,
P3, M1 amp; D1 P1 Describe the event, conference and exhibitions environment in the UK Types of
event Corporate hospitality Corporate hospitality is a private event held by corporations and
businesses to entertain and build good relationships with their staff and clients and to encourage new
businesses. For example a company hires a venue such as the Hinitze Hall in the Natural History
Museum which offers galleries for a range of evening events with catering facilities and staff which
will be used only by the business team. Team building events Team building events are events in
which members of a business bond ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These events are not always open to the public but aim to generate press coverage and publicity.
Music events and festivals range from popular music concerts to classical performances. This includes
festival such as Reading and Leeds. The music magazine NME provides information about all the
upcoming festivals and concerts on their website. Wedding fairs are often held in hotels because it is
easier for customers to access the wedding related goods and services when they are put into one
place. Reunions are popular events which help people to get in touch with friends they have not seen
and spoken for many years. Reunions are held in venues with hospitality facilities like any other
event. An example is the Friends Reunited website. Types of conference Political conferences Political
conferences are party political conferences which are held every year for a general meeting of a
political party. The conferences are attended by certain delegates who represent the party membership.
In most political parties, the party conference is the highest decision making body of the organisation,
tasked with electing or nominating the party s leaders or leadership bodies. Popular venues which are
hired for political conferences include Brighton, Blackpool or Bournemouth which mainly rely on
conference business outside the summer holiday season so such conferences provide significant
revenue.

Myelin Essay
Myelin is a fatty sheath that coats nerve cells. It consists of about 70% lipids. In the central nervous
system, it is made of oligodendrocytes. One oligodendrocyte can myelinate many axons. In the
peripheral nervous system, myelin is made of a Schwann cell. One Schwann cell can myelinate only
one axon. Oligodendrocytes and Schwann cells form myelin by wrapping around the axon.
The myelin sheath is a good insulator. It also creates low capacitance. This means that fewer ions are
needed to charge and discharge the membrane of the axon. Myelin also clusters ions channels between
myelin sheaths. These clusters are called nodes of Ranvier.
Myelin allows the action potential of myelinated axons to travel further than unmyelinated axons with
the same diameter. Because the myelin sheath is a good insulator, within myelinated segments of the
axon, there is a high resistance to ion flow in and out of the axon. As a result, there is little charge
leakage within the myelinated segments of the axon. This allows for the action potential to travel
longer distances. From an evolutionary perspective, this allowed for ... Show more content on

Within the myelinated segments of axon, charge flows passively and quickly from one node of
Ranvier to another. The time consuming process of propagating an action potential occurs at the ions
channels. Myelinated axons do not have ions channels spanning the entire axon. Instead, they are
clustered only at the nodes of Ranvier. So, the time consuming propagation of action potentials is
limited to small segments in the axon. This allows the action potential to move quickly. Therefore, a
myelinated axon can conduct a faster action potential than an unmelinated axon with the same
diameter. This allows for faster information integration and response in organisms with myelinated
axons (compared to organisms with unmyelinated axons of the same

The Uses Of Tube Feeding
The use of tube feeding is done when a patient is no longer or unable to feed themselves orally. When
tube feeding is required for just a short period of time an enteral tube feeding can be placed nasally.
Incidences that require NG tube feeding would be prolonged bleeding, facial trauma, upper GI
blockage and cancer. The NG tube catheter tip normally resides inside the stomach or in the small
intestine past the pylorus. The number one complication involved with the use of NG tubal feeding is
incorrect placement. A nurse can inadvertently place an NG catheter into the lungs, most notably when
a patient has little to no gag reflex. As a result testing for gastric contents, pH or performing a chest x
ray are required once an NG tube has been inserted. Another major complication when using NG tubal
feeding is aspiration within the lungs due to gastric contents enter the trachea and into the bronchial
spaces of the lungs. Keeping the head of the bed elevated greater than 30 degrees will reduce
aspiration at minimum . The use of a gastrostomy or jejunostomy tube can used for enteral feedings
when an NG tube cannot be tolerated of interferes with therapy. The gastrostomy tube, PEG, tip is
placed in the stomach and exits the body through the left upper quadrant of the abdomen where a
bumper holds it into location. This can only be placed internally by a doctor during an endoscopy,
radiology or surgery. A jejunostomy tube can be placed while in surgery, radiology

Welcome to the Monkey House, Harrison Bergeron, and...
Kurt Vonnegut was a man of disjointed ideas, as is expressed through the eccentric protagonists that
dominate his works. Part cynic and part genius, Kurt Vonnegut s brilliance as a satirist derives from
the deranged nature of the atrocities he had witnessed in his life. The reason Vonnegut s satire is so
popular and works so well is because Vonnegut had personal ties to all the elements that he lambasted
in his works. Vonnegut s experience as a soldier in WWII during firebombing of Dresden corrupted
his mind and enabled him to express the chaotic reality of war, violence, obsession, sex and
government in a raw and personal manner. Through three works specifically, Welcome to the Monkey
House, Harrison Bergeron, and Slaughterhouse five, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Nobody was stronger or quicker than anybody else. All this equality was due to the 211th, 212th, and
213th Amendments to the Constitution, and to the unceasing vigilance of agents of the United States
Handicapper General. (Harrison Bergeron, 1.) The idea behind this opening paragraph is to show how
ridiculous government powers have become, as well as warn people that governments are increasingly
taking over the freedom and personal attributes of the individual. The same argument and ridicule can
be found expressed in the short story Welcome to the Monkey House. Vonnegut introduces the absurd
control the government has over the individual in the fictitious society by stating So the world
government was making a two pronged attack on overpopulation. One pronging was the
encouragement of ethical suicide, which consisted of going to the nearest Suicide Parlor and asking
the Hostess to kill you painlessly while you lay on a Barcalounger. The other pronging was
compulsory ethical birth control. (Welcome to the Monkey House, 30.) As a satirist, Vonnegut goes
where others don t dare; he satirizes the future in a cautionary manner to express concern for the
possibility of future government power. Sex is another element Vonnegut satirizes. Perhaps not to
caution, but to reveal the twisted ways in which our current society treats sex. No doubt seen in every
form of media and in every war, this theme can be found in Slaughterhouse five and

Tim O Brian s How to Tell a True War Story of the Things...
The Tim O Brian s short story, Sweetheart of the Song Tra Bong , Mary Anne Bell is a rare illustration
of the innocence that is lost. In her attractive sweater, unblemished pants and free spirited attitude, no
one could seem more faultless. She was the definition of a true young American teenager or at least
that s what they all assumed at first. In the beginning of the story, she is something noticeable to both
the soldiers and the reader: she was expected to be a normal American girl who wanted nothing more
than a family. The story of her mutation into something different, a killer, mirrors the transformation
of most of the soldiers. It is a well known fact that war changes people; there is an innocence that is
forever lost. They go ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She was very naive because she had no glue what the future holds for her and how Vietnam will
transform her, no one did.
The more days Mary Anne spent in Vietnam the more she became interested in the culture of war
discovering her curious nature. She would listen carefully to the stories she was told and was intrigued
by the land and its mystery. Vietnam gave her a new strength, the ability to choose for herself where
she would go and who she would become. Anne figuratively became a different person... there was a
new confidence in her voice, a new authority in the way she carried herself . As Vietnam empowered
Mary Anne and gave her a new personality the men could not understand and they began to see an
inequity in Mary Anne, but in a true war story there is no morality. Mary Anne was just doing what the
men have always done. She stopped taking baths, and spent more of her time hunting and exploring
Vietnam with the Greenies. Sometimes she would get so cut up with the forest and sleep out, leaving
Mark Fossie hopeless. Mark was able to notice the changes occurring in Mary Anne, this suddenly
made him paranoid and extremely disturbed. Because Mark was not affected by the land like Anne
was, he was unable to relate to Anne anymore because his way of viewing things, his perception and

In An Increasingly Threatening Environmental Crisis, Zoos
In an increasingly threatening environmental crisis, zoos are participating in the conservation of
species. The biodiversity of the animal and plant worlds is being deeply affected, on the one hand by
the disruption of ecosystems caused mainly by climate change and deforestation, and on the other
hand, by the globalization of trade, travel, transport, and tourism. These two factors are increasingly
reducing animals habitats and endangering many species (Keulartz 336). The evolution of the
preservation role of zoos precipitated the emergence of different animal activist groups, each with
different their specific ethics and agendas. Even in the face of environmental serial destruction, animal
welfare activists criticize zoos efforts to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Influential groups like the Humane Society and the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to
Animals (ASPCA) admit on their website some zoos are beneficial to animals in supporting
conservation programs, participating in the preservation and restoration of endangered species, and
promoting education about the importance of wildlife ( Position Statement on Zoos and Aquariums ).
However, this statement holds under certain conditions. First, the Humane Society recommends zoos
be organized around a core mission that educates the public about the needs of the animals and the
threats they face. Also, zoos should treat animals humanely and provide care adapted to their physical,
social and psychological needs ( Zoos ). Finally, the ASPCA indicates zoos should participate in
tightly controlled breeding programs and their displays should stress the themes of endangered
species, wild habitat destruction and reduced biodiversity ( Position Statement on Zoos and
Aquariums ). Unfortunately, many zoos do not fall under these descriptions, but they can act on
several factors with the intent to fill in their vast conservation function and thus work towards the
animal welfare activists demands.
Because humane treatment of captive animals and their well being

Cartons Short Story
There were two choices: mop the kitchen, or dump out two thousand cartons of spoiled macadamia
nut milk. Sadly we didn t get the first choice. The boys decided to mop the kitchen, which they
probably didn t know how to do. We got to work, two girls opening boxes, two more opening cartons,
and another girl and myself were emptying the cartons into the sink. It wasn t really that bad, only a
faint smell of something bad, I thought we got the easy job. That is until we kept working. Unloading
box after box the smell grew stronger. It smelled worse than a barnyard by the time we reached the
bottom rack. We stopped for a minute to clean up, the cartons were all broken and the garbage bags
were leaking milk. Our shoes were dirty and soaked and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

the first carton. I was already out of breath. My eyes were watering and my mouth went dry, I quickly

was shaking and I feared I might pass out from the awful smell, but I continued, I only had two more
cartons. They were horrible. The bottoms were all green and flimsy, dripping milk all over the ground
as I rushed them to the sink. The job was done, until I turned around and saw the mess we left. I
hauled the giant trash bags over my shoulder and threw them up into the old dumpster in the back of
the building. By the time I was coming back in all the girls in my group had finished their break and
came back in to help, but I was all done. I mopped up the ground and the room lightened. Everyone
seemed pretty happy that they didn t have to clean up, I was pretty happy that I did clean up, I did the
best job. Our day was done and we were dismissed from our worksite. As we climbed into the van,
and I closed the heavy door, I thought so much, but most of all I thought about how our first day at

The Parallels Of Japanese Internees And American Pows
The Parallels of Japanese Internees and American POWs War can be loud and visible or quiet and
remote. It affects the individual and entire societies, the soldier, and the civilian. Both U.S. prisoners
of war in Japan and Japanese American citizens in the United States during WWII undergo efforts to
make them invisible. Laura Hillenbrand s Unbroken hero, Louie Zamperini, like so many other
POWs, is imprisoned, beaten, and denied basic human rights in POW camps throughout Japan. Miné
Okubo, a U.S. citizen by birth, is removed from society and interned in a protective custody camp for
Japanese American citizens. She is one of the many Japanese Americans who were interned for the
duration of the war. Louie Zamperini, as a POW in Japan, and Miné Okubo, as a Japanese American
Internee both experience efforts to make them invisible through dehumanization and isolation in the
camps of WWII, and both resist these efforts. From a very early age, Louie Zamperini was a visible
young man. His charismatic/rebellious ways, and his athletic accomplishments continually put him in
the spotlight, but years in Japanese POWs camps slowly eroded his visibility. He, like so many others
in captivity, experienced efforts to make him invisible. During WWII, POWs were systematically
stripped of their dignity in the camps of Japan, and as Hillenbrand writes, without dignity, identity is
erased (189). Dehumanizing tactics by Japanese guards deny prisoners of their dignity and humanity.

Emotional Labour In Australia
In a global world, post industrial economies are required to focus on the workforce s emotional labour,
particularly in service and blue collar areas due to the emotional impact that certain situations and
work place interactions require of the employee. In Australia Emotional labour is a key issue in
Human Resources and People management and is a focus of Industrial relations due to the
significance of these interactions on the wider community. Emotional labour is a human emotive
process produced at a personal level which involves the sacrifice of one s personal emotions in order
to provide the face of the company and to present a certain disposition that promotes a feeling of well
being on another. In 1979 Airlie Hochschild provided the first definition of emotional labour the
management of feeling to create a publicly observable facial and bodily display (Hochschild, 1979).
Since Hochschild s definition, thirty seven years have passed and the argument as to whether
emotional labour is beneficial or detrimental to the workplace has led to dramatic developments of HR
practices since the shift of a post industrial economy in advanced countries like Australia. ... Show

The Good And Bad Teacher In Ishmael By Daniel Quinn
On the first day of school, the first thing that comes to a student s mind is what teacher they are going
to have and if they are a good teacher or not. No student wants a teacher who is extremely difficult
and makes the class teach themselves the material instead of teaching it to them completely. A good
teacher makes their students reflect on their work and leaves time in class for discussion of thoughts
and ideas the students may have about a certain topic or story. On the other hand, a bad teacher doesn t
give their students feedback and leaves them wondering whether they are on the right path with their
ideas and thoughts. A bad teacher does not hand his students what they need to learn or know, nor is
he ever present when a student needs help. However, some teachers can have both good and bad
attributes. In the novel Ishmael by Daniel Quinn, Ishmael the gorilla takes on the role of a teacher
after placing an ad in the local newspaper calling forth any citizen with a desire to save the world.
Eventually he is approached by the narrator who is interested in the ad, and Ishmael begins teaching
him all there is to know about the takers and the leavers culture. Ishmael is not a normal teacher, and
teaches the narrator the important lessons through different methods because he thinks people rely too
much on the teachers who spend their lives simply passing knowledge on to their students without a
second thought. Although Ishmael may come across to some as a bad teacher, he

Guns and Violence Essay
Guns and violence have some long lasting effects on not only the crime rate, but the rights that people
have to own guns themselves. Even though the violence is a factor in why many believe that guns
should be banned, guns should be allowed and not banned because they should be allowed because of
the laws and the rights of citizens allow them there rights. The ethics and laws that occur with the
current and enduring debates are another meaningful point. As Supreme Court Cases rage on about
how a cities ban on handguns could break amendments, this is how the topic has gained from it (Hoxie

Many believe that if guns are made illegal that there will be more violence due to how they receive the
weapon most likely illegally. As there are many kids that have obtained guns without their parents
even notice, they can bring tragedy to their schools, as kids are likely to open fire on other kids if they
would obtain a gun. It would not be the first time a child would have done this, as it happened in
Paducah, Kentucky as three children were killed in the lobby by a fourteen year old. He was charged
as a juvenile, as he was just a child (Collier 477). There are many statistics that prove to be a major
factor on why the juvenile system will most likely be revamped. Most states have a way of sending
children to a juvenile court, where they can only be found delinquent and placed in a facility. This has
been the normal way of taking care of it for quite a long time and many believe that this law or rule
needs to be changed. Crimes are linked to guns and the violence they bring in many ways. They can
corrupt adults and even their kids. As a child everything seems different, and the violence they see on
TV, video games, music, or any other media including their parents themselves could have drastic
measures on how they act. As some kids have done things wrong only by mistake and some have done

The Paleozoic era age approximately 300 million years (542 mya to 251 mya). This time period
consists of two of the most important events in the history of animal life. In the beginning, multi
celled animals underwent a dramatic explosion in diversity, this resulted in almost all living animal
phyla appearing within a few million years. At the other end of the Paleozoic, it withstood the largest
mass extinction in all of history. This event wiped out approximately 90% of all marine animal

Causes Of Unemployment In Nigeria
Unemployment in some cases is not an individual problem. While some may think that unemployment
is always the beholders fault, in Nigeria however, it is quite the contrary. Raw data and statistics can
show exactly why a country has an unemployment problem. Along with that, causes of unemployment
can be significant to why unemployment is such a critical problem. Even more, the effects of
unemployment hint to the future of any country that struggles with this. With all of this in mind, one
must wonder how much unemployment really affects a country. Sometimes, the cold hard facts will
provide better evidence to why unemployment is more of a problem than some realize. Statistics can
be just as vital to understanding the problem of unemployment. Nigerian unemployment rate has
skyrocketed from 10.4% in the last quarter of 2015 to 14.2% in the respective last quarter in 2016.
That is an increase of 3.8% which is the highest job spike since 2009 ( Nigeria Unemployment Rate
P.1.). 3.8% may not seem like a lot, but since Nigeria has a population of 192 million (10/31/17)
(Nigeria Population LIVE P.1), 7,296,000 became unemployed, making the total amount of people
unemployed 27,264,000. In the previous quarter, the jobless rate was 13.9 percent. Unemployment
Rate in Nigeria averaged 9.76 percent from 2006 until 2016, reaching an all time high of 19.70

Ethnographic Analysis Of A Park

of the park users. Based on this information, analysis of the goals for the park are developed and
articulated in well architectural drawings that will play part in setting the platform for the eventual

By so doing creation of sustainable revenue for the park will be achieved leading to creation of

2.2.1 Provision of greater accessibility to the park

who will design and plan how the park should accommodate the ease flow of people within the park.
The park should be upgraded to provide for improved parking lots and access and also provide for a
more centralized public transportation access within the park.

Parks have always been classified as either active or passive spaces. Active spaces within the park are
typically those that provide for formal recreational areas and organized for activities such as sporting
activities.Hard non green spaces, such as basketball and tennis courts can be referred to as active
spaces, which enable people to exercise physical activities that enhance their healthy living. On the

The Multistore Model of Memory Essay
The Multistore Model of Memory The multistore model is a representation of memory based on
having more than one different kind of store for remembered information. Atkinson and Shiffrin
(1968) proposed this model based on evidence related to the separate stores of memory (e.g. serial
position: primacy recency, forgetting etc.). It suggests that memory comprises of three separate stores,
the sensory memory store, the short term memory and the long term memory, each store having a
specific and relatively inflexible function:
Information enters and is initially stored in SM which holds information for very brief periods of time
if the information is not concentrated on. However, if a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Shallice and Warrington (1970), suffered from the reverse of this memory impairment. He had no
difficulty in transferring new items into LTM but had a grossly impaired digit span. Cases such as
these lend support to the Atkinson and Shiffrin model, in that they seem to point to a clear distinction
between LTM and STM. There does seem to be fairly strong support for a difference between LTM
and STM in terms of duration, capacity and effects of brain damage. However, there are problems
with the model of Atkinson and Shiffrin. The model is too simple and inflexible and fails to take
account of factors such as the strategies people employ to remember things. It also places emphasis on
the amount of information that can be processed rather than its nature. Some things are simply easier
to remember than others, perhaps because they are more interesting, more distinctive, funnier, or
whatever. The multistore model cannot account for this. Furthermore, alternative explanations can
account for the empirical findings e.g. the levels of processing model. This model was put forward by
Craik and
Lockhart (1972). According to them, processing varies in terms of depth, Trace

Decriminalize Marijuana for the Good of America
Decriminalize Marijuana for the Good of America Currently, drugs remain high on the lists of
concerns of Americans and are considered one of the major problems facing our country today. We see
stories on the news about people being killed on the street every day over drugs. To many people
drugs are only an inner city problem, but in reality they affect all of us users and non users. I believe
that the negative affects we associate with drugs would be greatly reduced if the United States adopted
a policy towards the total decriminalization of marijuana. The current drug policy of our government
is obviously failing. Drug laws have created corruption, violence, increased street crime, and
disrespect for the criminal justice system. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If marijuana is legalized, many project that lung cancer will increase as the amount of marijuana use
increases (Miner 44). These are all valid arguments, but cigarette smoking is legal, a booming
business, and causes the same exact problems. There are a number of myths associated with the use of
marijuana and its effects on your body which people who are opposed to its decriminalization
repeatedly cite. One of these in that Marijuana causes brain damage. This claim is based on a study of
the rehus monkey by Dr. Robert Heath in the late 1970 s. Heath s work was criticized for its
insufficient sample size (only four monkeys), its failure to control experimental bias, and the
misidentification of normal monkey brain structure as damaged (Hager 1). Actual studies of human
populations of marijuana users have shown no evidence of damage to the brain (Hager 1). In fact, the
Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) conducted two studies in 1977 and they showed
no evidence of brain damage in heavy users of marijuana (Hager 1). Later that same year the AMA
came out in favor of the decriminalizing of marijuana (Hager 1). That seems to me that the AMA
wouldn t do that if it thought marijuana was damaging to the brain. Another myth is that marijuana
damages the reproductive system. This is based on the work of Dr. Gabriel Nahas, who experimented
with tissue cells isolated in petri dishes. The cells were dosed with near lethal

that the film takes place in is the 18th century. There is a mixture of social class in this
film. There are rulers and commoners shown in this film. The main characters in the film
which are Mozart, Salieri, and Emperor Joseph represent actual historical figures. The
film was made in 1984.
The film was somewhat accurate with the characters and the time, but for the
most part the film never stated what year everything was happening in. Someone could

For example when
Emperor Joseph wanted Amadeus to stay in Vienna to make an opera he also wanted him
to stay because it would upset the bishop. There were also many ideas that Mozart
showed Joseph. Joseph allowed these works to happen showed his enlightenment. These
idea were seen wrong in the social class in Vienna, but Joseph still accept these ideas.
One example was the first opera that Mozart did for Joseph. Amadeus wanted to
do the opera in German. This was seen as unmoral cause all opera s were in Italian. Also
Mozart wanted to use a setting of Turkey. This idea was accepted by Joseph. The ideas
that Joseph accepted looked to be the most risky. These idea showed that he was an
enlighten Despot. Another example was when Mozart was plan on doing an opera on The
Marriage of Figaro. This was a very risqué opera. Mozart promised that it not going to be
a vulgar opera. Joseph again agreed to this opera, even do his subjects didn t agree. Then
during rehearsals there was ballet in the opera which was against the law to have in the
opera. This law was made by Joseph. Then after seeing the play without it, he wanted it
in because it didn t look right. He basically changed his own law, to the displeased of his
subjects again. Emperor Joseph showed enlightenment many times in this film.
Mozart can be viewed as an enlightenment hero. He stood against the opposition
of the church and the convention. For

Human Resource Management And Organizational And Employee...
Like most other department managers, the primary function of a human resource manager is
responsible for overseeing department functions as well as managing employees. This is why the
human resource manager must be extremely familiar with every square inch of each discipline of
human resource management. This includes Equal Employment Opportunities and Affirmative Action,
human resource planning, recruitment, and selection, human resource development, compensation and
benefits, safety and health, and employee relations. In this reflective essay I will discuss each of these
disciplines and how they work together. Additionally, I will discuss which functions I believe to be the
most important, and how human resource management can be optimized for shaping organizational
and employee behavior.
Federal regulations mandate that affirmative action and equal employment opportunity is adhered to
when considering individuals for employment. Regarding Affirmative Action, the federal regulation
ensures that a diverse group of applicants are considered for employment, that the organization
develops and stands up Affirmative Action plans to identify areas where there is underutilization of
women and minorities, and additionally develop a plan to demonstrate good faith in order to
discourage and eliminate the underutilization in those positions.
Working along side Affirmative Action is the Equal Employment Opportunity. Equal Employment
Opportunities requires equal opportunity which is

Student Involvement In College Sports
Sports are a key factor to college life. Even though everyone may not play them, it plays a major
impact on every individual that attends that college. Sports teams help build school pride, generate
revenue, and give rising athletes opportunities to become professionals. As a result, colleges should
strongly support their sports teams.
First and foremost, sports teams are essential in establishing a sense of school pride. A strong stance of
school pride allows the student body as a whole to become coherent. To put simply, it creates a way
for students to become better involved with their college. Not only does it generate involvement
within the college, but also with the community because of family or friends that may also attend the
events.

Entering an individual s home or personal space can reveal to you differences in that individual s

Why Is Softball Harder Than Baseball
Have you ever wondered if softball is harder than baseball, or even the other way around? Both
softball and baseball are challenging sports. They have the same basics, and some of the same rules.
They have plenty of things in common, but one is definitely harder than the other. Softball is harder
than baseball because of the size of the bats and balls, the reaction time, and the difference in pitching.
First, you must know the comparison of a softball, a baseball, and both of their bats. A softball is 12
inches in diameter, and a baseball is 5 inches. Also, a softball is heavier than a baseball, so therefore it
takes a lot more effort to throw and hit. Though, a softball is bigger, it is also bright yellow, being the
same color as the sun. When you re playing softball in midday, while the sun is beating down hard on
your skin, and your eyes, it may be a little harder to see. The diameter of a softball bat is usually
around 2 ¼ inches, but a baseball bat is around 2 ¾ inches (The). The softball bat may be just a tiny
bit smaller than a baseball bat, but when you re playing, it makes a lot of difference. ... Show more

Since the softball field is much smaller than a baseball field, you have a lot less reaction time than you
think. The pitching mound is closer to the home plate in a softball field. Therefore, when a pitch is
thrown to the home plate, you have to see the ball and make sure that you have enough time to swing
your bat. Also, while the pitching mound very close to home plate, the pitcher also has to figure out a
way to get the batter out. They could throw curveballs, screwballs, or rise balls. This gives the batter
much less of an advantage at the home plate. With the pitcher throwing these kinds of balls, the batter
still has very little reaction

Connie Bertka s A Primer On Science, Religion, Evolution...
Dr. Connie Bertka s essay, A Primer on Science, Religion, Evolution and Creationism, expands on
Kingsolver s idea that science and religion have cohabited by explaining how science and religion are
formative elements that shape society and serves to contribute to the common good. The relationship
between science and religion can be described as a conflict approach which means that science sets
the standard of truth to which religion must adhere to or be dismissed or religion sets the standard to
which science must conform. On the other hand, science and religion can form an interactive
relationship in which ideas converge from a scientific and religious perspective. Dr. Bertka mentions
that religion and science can be taught in a classroom, since their interactive relationship can
constructively benefit from engagement, since they both lead to individual insight and communal
discernment. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Adonia Research Papers
Miami was hot. It was an early Sunday morning in June when I found myself in Florida, driving to the
port of Miami. Still tired from the red eye flight the day before, my excitement pushed away the
grogginess that had enveloped me since touching down. The Adonia came into view, Carnival s new
cruise ship, offering travellers the opportunity to help local communities on existing projects while on
holiday. The ship sails from Miami to the Dominican Republic where we would be joining community
projects for 3 days, before sailing back.
When I first heard of Fathom and its volunteering cruise, I was intrigued. The last few years,
volunteerism has been on the rise. Travellers want to contribute to local communities and give back to
the environment on their days off. However, not everyone is able to spend months away from home to
volunteer abroad. Fathom seemed to offer this niche group a solution: providing travellers the
opportunity to help in some way on their holiday.
Initially, I thought this was a great idea. But after my trip with Fathom and research into the cruising
industry and volunteerism, I started to have a few reservations about this type of holiday. ... Show

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Second Language Acquisition
Second language acquisition is a process whereby people learn an additional language on top of their
native ones. Learning a second language can be functional to oneself especially when communicating
with a person whom you do not have a common language with. In acquiring the second language,
there will be difficulties that one might face as compared to acquiring the first language, which makes
it harder to acquire. Our mother tongue is easier to learn as we would have been brought up by our
parents or grandparents that speak the language. Learning a second language can be difficult as we are
not brought up for that language and would not know the basis of it. Some factors that makes it hard is
the age of the learner, experience, the cognitive ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This refers to the way the learner understands, analyze and interpret the information he/she
accumulates. Without proper understanding, the language can be misused and might lead to social
arguments. In cognitive style, there are two different types that plays a part Field independence and
Field dependence. Field independence is whereby the learner analyzes the information and branching
out the most relevant to the irrelevant information that helps his or her study of the language. Field
dependence on the other hand is the opposite whereby the learner takes into account all the
information without highlighting the key points. It is important for earners to adopt cognitive styles to
ensure that they have understood the language thoroughly so as to not make any mistakes while
communicating. The best style to adopt would be the Field Independence. By noting down the specific
points, a learner can better understand the use of the language appropriately. (Parker Riley, 2010, p.

first language for example, acquisition of phonology. Through this, he/she can learn how and why a
certain word is pronounced in such a way. Acquiring this while at a young age can help them speak
the language fluently and with the right tone. If this stage is being followed during the acquisition of
the second language, the learner can better understand how the language is truly spoken. (Parker

Organizational Structure Of A Successful Business
Discussion
A well designed organizational business structure is considered to be the heartbeat of a successful
business today. The organizational structure is the foundation for every compartment within a
business. Everything from the number of employees, to the titles and positions for each employee, the
policies and procedures of how the business with operate, and who will report to who. The
organizational structure is to help with the uncertainties.
Management should have a sense of how each position operates and what the main functions will be
within the organization. Also, there should be a measureable model in place, to evaluate each
employee over a certain period of time. Management should also have a complete and up to date
handbook of all the rules and policies within the business. These policies protect the business from
possible lawsuits along the way.
Also, organizational business structures help in the avoidance of conflict , which is an expressed
struggle between two interdependent parties who perceive in compatible goals scarce resources and
interference from the other party in achieving their goals [Ronald B. Adler. Lawrence B. Rosenfeld,
Russell F. Proctor, II, Interplay, The Process of Interpersonal Communication, 2010].
There are two models of organizational design that is discussed in Chapter 16 of our textbook,
Organizational Behavior Management; the two models are Mechanistic and Organic organizational
designs. The mechanistic model is noticed the

Philosophy Of Ubuntu
Introduction
With its origin in the Nguni language of the Xhosa, Zulu and Ndebele people, the word Ubuntu can be
loosely translated to mean Humanity , but the true power and meaning of the philosophy can be found
in the summary of the phrase Umuntu ngumuntu ngabantu , which can be translated to mean A person
is a person through other persons. or I am because we are.
The basic principal of Ubuntu is that a the success of a person is measured by the success of his
community and the people around him, meaning that if your community is healthy and prospering
than the individual is also healthy and prospering.
Although the concept is a wonderful ideal and could have been more easily achieved in the past, the
current social economic environment poses many challenges to the cultures who find their identities in

Habitat
Snowy egrets inhabit marshes, ponds, swamps, and mudflats (Bull Farrand). Since snowy egrets are
wading birds, like other herons and egrets, they prefer habitats that are close to water. Wading birds
breed and build their nests in close proximity to water, allowing them to have access to food while
raising their young. In North America, the snowy egret s favorite habitats include salt marshes,
shallow bays, and mangroves. Snowy egrets prefer similar habitats throughout South and Central
America and the Caribbean (Weslosky, 2002).
Conservation Biology
Life cycle and reproduction
Breeding colonies, sometimes of multiple different species, form on islands surrounded by water or
guarded by a vegetative buffer. Such features are presumed to be desirable due to the protection they
provide from predators on the ground (Frederick, 2002). Nests are often built using sticks, reeds, and
other vegetation and constructed in trees, shrubs, or other aquatic vegetation (Elphick, 2014). A clutch
consists of 3 5 eggs, a pale blue green in color, laid in a nest located in a bush or reedbed, specific to
the species of egret (Bull Farrand, 1994). Breeding season begins in March or early April and males
will perform both flight and vocal displays to attract females. Snowy egrets are social nesters

Analysis Of The Mid 70 S
The mid 70 s became the climax in allowance for different family situation. Unlike the 50 s and 60 s
where women played minor roles as housewives, the 70 s presented a new kind of role for females:
single moms. Sitcoms such as The Partridge Family, focused on the mother figure and displayed the
roles she undertook as both a mother and a father. Comparing The Partridge Family to a modern
sitcoms such as Ben Kate, these shows share a male characters that fills in the father figure gap and
the struggle both mothers face as single parents. On the other hand, they differ in the child s rebellion
due to their void in a paternal figure. The show may centralise on a single mother, however, there will
always be a male figure present to take the place of the father. Rabinovitz notes that in spite of the
sitcom revolving around a single mom, a male figure, whether if it was a relative of the mother or an
unsuitable mate for the mother, is incorporated into the show as a male representation for the child. In

  • 2. Separation Between the Narration in Response to... In reading Frankenstein, by Mary Shelly, a motif of distance and separateness can be discerned from the text. In the structure of the narrative, the reader is distant from the action. The setting of the narrative is situated often in isolated and nearly inaccessible areas, creating separateness between the action of the story and the everyday world. The Frankenstein monster is remote compared to the rest of world by narrative structure, geographic area, and his namelessness. The reader must look through several lenses throughout the novel. The letters that begin the book are addressed to Mrs. Saville from Robert Walton. So already in the beginning, the reader is asked to participate in voyeurism, looking in on a world through letters ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The light of the story is passing through the lenses of Robert Walton, Victor Frankenstein, and finally the antagonist of the story: the nameless Frankenstein monster. Shelly gradually drops these lenses once again until we are back to Walton s letters to Mrs. Saville. The three main lenses of this narration are also separate in space from the rest of humanity for the majority of this novel. Walton first sees the Frankenstein monster and then Victor on his voyage north into the ice. It is only these two creatures, and the adventurers of Walton s crew that would travel this far away from the comfort and companionship of humanity. The first spoken encounter between Frankenstein and his monster occurs on the icy glacier in the Swiss Alps near the source of the Arveiron. After Victor s ascent into the mountains he is confronted by the monster and is led to an even higher peak to the hut of the monster where the he begins his tale. The monster exists outside the sphere of humanity, right on the fringe. He spends his formative months in the woods or inside his hiding place outside the cottage of the exiled French Nationals. The only people who ever hear the monster are Victor, the blind father of the cottage, and William right before he dies. The rest of humanity, even if the monster tries to speak, is unable to hear him. The monster is so far from what is right and normal that the capacity for understanding is not within the grasp of normal human experience. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. Myelin Essay Myelin is a fatty sheath that coats nerve cells. It consists of about 70% lipids. In the central nervous system, it is made of oligodendrocytes. One oligodendrocyte can myelinate many axons. In the peripheral nervous system, myelin is made of a Schwann cell. One Schwann cell can myelinate only one axon. Oligodendrocytes and Schwann cells form myelin by wrapping around the axon. The myelin sheath is a good insulator. It also creates low capacitance. This means that fewer ions are needed to charge and discharge the membrane of the axon. Myelin also clusters ions channels between myelin sheaths. These clusters are called nodes of Ranvier. Myelin allows the action potential of myelinated axons to travel further than unmyelinated axons with the same diameter. Because the myelin sheath is a good insulator, within myelinated segments of the axon, there is a high resistance to ion flow in and out of the axon. As a result, there is little charge leakage within the myelinated segments of the axon. This allows for the action potential to travel longer distances. From an evolutionary perspective, this allowed for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Within the myelinated segments of axon, charge flows passively and quickly from one node of Ranvier to another. The time consuming process of propagating an action potential occurs at the ions channels. Myelinated axons do not have ions channels spanning the entire axon. Instead, they are clustered only at the nodes of Ranvier. So, the time consuming propagation of action potentials is limited to small segments in the axon. This allows the action potential to move quickly. Therefore, a myelinated axon can conduct a faster action potential than an unmelinated axon with the same diameter. This allows for faster information integration and response in organisms with myelinated axons (compared to organisms with unmyelinated axons of the same ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Uses Of Tube Feeding The use of tube feeding is done when a patient is no longer or unable to feed themselves orally. When tube feeding is required for just a short period of time an enteral tube feeding can be placed nasally. Incidences that require NG tube feeding would be prolonged bleeding, facial trauma, upper GI blockage and cancer. The NG tube catheter tip normally resides inside the stomach or in the small intestine past the pylorus. The number one complication involved with the use of NG tubal feeding is incorrect placement. A nurse can inadvertently place an NG catheter into the lungs, most notably when a patient has little to no gag reflex. As a result testing for gastric contents, pH or performing a chest x ray are required once an NG tube has been inserted. Another major complication when using NG tubal feeding is aspiration within the lungs due to gastric contents enter the trachea and into the bronchial spaces of the lungs. Keeping the head of the bed elevated greater than 30 degrees will reduce aspiration at minimum . The use of a gastrostomy or jejunostomy tube can used for enteral feedings when an NG tube cannot be tolerated of interferes with therapy. The gastrostomy tube, PEG, tip is placed in the stomach and exits the body through the left upper quadrant of the abdomen where a bumper holds it into location. This can only be placed internally by a doctor during an endoscopy, radiology or surgery. A jejunostomy tube can be placed while in surgery, radiology ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Welcome to the Monkey House, Harrison Bergeron, and... Kurt Vonnegut was a man of disjointed ideas, as is expressed through the eccentric protagonists that dominate his works. Part cynic and part genius, Kurt Vonnegut s brilliance as a satirist derives from the deranged nature of the atrocities he had witnessed in his life. The reason Vonnegut s satire is so popular and works so well is because Vonnegut had personal ties to all the elements that he lambasted in his works. Vonnegut s experience as a soldier in WWII during firebombing of Dresden corrupted his mind and enabled him to express the chaotic reality of war, violence, obsession, sex and government in a raw and personal manner. All this equality was due to the 211th, 212th, and 213th Amendments to the Constitution, and to the unceasing vigilance of agents of the United States Handicapper General. (Harrison Bergeron, 1.) The idea behind this opening paragraph is to show how ridiculous government powers have become, as well as warn people that governments are increasingly taking over the freedom and personal attributes of the individual. The same argument and ridicule can be found expressed in the short story Welcome to the Monkey House. Vonnegut introduces the absurd control the government has over the individual in the fictitious society by stating So the world government was making a two pronged attack on overpopulation. One pronging was the encouragement of ethical suicide, which consisted of going to the nearest Suicide Parlor and asking the Hostess to kill you painlessly while you lay on a Barcalounger. The other pronging was compulsory ethical birth control. (Welcome to the Monkey House, 30.) As a satirist, Vonnegut goes where others don t dare; he satirizes the future in a cautionary manner to express concern for the possibility of future government power. Sex is another element Vonnegut satirizes. Perhaps not to caution, but to reveal the twisted ways in which our current society treats sex. She was the definition of a true young American teenager or at least that s what they all assumed at first. These two factors are increasingly reducing animals habitats and endangering many species (Keulartz 336). However, this statement holds under certain conditions. Also, zoos should treat animals humanely and provide care adapted to their physical, social and psychological needs ( Zoos ). It affects the individual and entire societies, the soldier, and the civilian. Both U.S. prisoners of war in Japan and Japanese American citizens in the United States during WWII undergo efforts to make them invisible. Laura Hillenbrand s Unbroken hero, Louie Zamperini, like so many other POWs, is imprisoned, beaten, and denied basic human rights in POW camps throughout Japan. Miné Okubo, a U.S. citizen by birth, is removed from society and interned in a protective custody camp for Japanese American citizens. She is one of the many Japanese Americans who were interned for the duration of the war. Louie Zamperini, as a POW in Japan, and Miné Okubo, as a Japanese American Internee both experience efforts to make them invisible through dehumanization and isolation in the camps of WWII, and both resist these efforts. From a very early age, Louie Zamperini was a visible young man. His charismatic/rebellious ways, and his athletic accomplishments continually put him in the spotlight, but years in Japanese POWs camps slowly eroded his visibility. He, like so many others in captivity, experienced efforts to make him invisible. The Good And Bad Teacher In Ishmael By Daniel Quinn On the first day of school, the first thing that comes to a student s mind is what teacher they are going to have and if they are a good teacher or not. A good teacher makes their students reflect on their work and leaves time in class for discussion of thoughts and ideas the students may have about a certain topic or story. Atkinson and Shiffrin (1968) proposed this model based on evidence related to the separate stores of memory (e.g. serial position: primacy recency, forgetting etc.). It suggests that memory comprises of three separate stores, the sensory memory store, the short term memory and the long term memory, each store having a specific and relatively inflexible function: Information enters and is initially stored in SM which holds information for very brief periods of time if the information is not concentrated on. He had no difficulty in transferring new items into LTM but had a grossly impaired digit span. There does seem to be fairly strong support for a difference between LTM and STM in terms of duration, capacity and effects of brain damage. The model is too simple and inflexible and fails to take account of factors such as the strategies people employ to remember things. It also places emphasis on the amount of information that can be processed rather than its nature. Some things are simply easier to remember than others, perhaps because they are more interesting, more distinctive, funnier, or whatever. The multistore model cannot account for this. They have the same basics, and some of the same rules. They have plenty of things in common, but one is definitely harder than the other. Softball is harder than baseball because of the size of the bats and balls, the reaction time, and the difference in pitching. Dr. Connie Bertka s essay, A Primer on Science, Religion, Evolution and Creationism, expands on Kingsolver s idea that science and religion have cohabited by explaining how science and religion are formative elements that shape society and serves to contribute to the common good. The relationship between science and religion can be described as a conflict approach which means that science sets the standard of truth to which religion must adhere to or be dismissed or religion sets the standard to which science must conform. On the other hand, science and religion can form an interactive relationship in which ideas converge from a scientific and religious perspective. Dr. Bertka mentions that religion and science can be taught in a classroom, since their interactive relationship can constructively benefit from engagement, since they both lead to individual insight and communal discernment. ... Still tired from the red eye flight the day before, my excitement pushed away the grogginess that had enveloped me since touching down. The Adonia came into view, Carnival s new cruise ship, offering travellers the opportunity to help local communities on existing projects while on holiday. The ship sails from Miami to the Dominican Republic where we would be joining community projects for 3 days, before sailing back. When I first heard of Fathom and its volunteering cruise, I was intrigued. The last few years, volunteerism has been on the rise. Travellers want to contribute to local communities and give back to the environment on their days off. However, not everyone is able to spend months away from home to volunteer abroad. Fathom seemed to offer this niche group a solution: providing travellers the opportunity to help in some way on their holiday. Initially, I thought this was a great idea. In existing system, under hybrid scheme, it each sensor nodes generates information by sensing its physical environment and transmit to sink by multi hop communication. In network aggregation computation intermediate forwarding nodes can substantially increase the network life time but amount of data contained in single packet and make the system vulnerability to packet loss. Learning a second language can be functional to oneself especially when communicating with a person whom you do not have a common language with. In acquiring the second language, there will be difficulties that one might face as compared to acquiring the first language, which makes it harder to acquire. Our mother tongue is easier to learn as we would have been brought up by our parents or grandparents that speak the language. In cognitive style, there are two different types that plays a part Field independence and Field dependence. Field independence is whereby the learner analyzes the information and branching out the most relevant to the irrelevant information that helps his or her study of the language. Field dependence on the other hand is the opposite whereby the learner takes into account all the information without highlighting the key points. It is important for earners to adopt cognitive styles to ensure that they have understood the language thoroughly so as to not make any mistakes while communicating. The best style to adopt would be the Field Independence. By noting down the specific points, a learner can better understand the use of the language appropriately. Through this, he/she can learn how and why a certain word is pronounced in such a way. Acquiring this while at a young age can help them speak the language fluently and with the right tone. If this stage is being followed during the acquisition of the second language, the learner can better understand how the language is truly spoken. (Parker Riley, 2010, p. ... The organizational structure is the foundation for every compartment within a business. Everything from the number of employees, to the titles and positions for each employee, the policies and procedures of how the business with operate, and who will report to who. The organizational structure is to help with the uncertainties. Management should have a sense of how each position operates and what the main functions will be within the organization. Also, there should be a measureable model in place, to evaluate each employee over a certain period of time. Management should also have a complete and up to date handbook of all the rules and policies within the business. These policies protect the business from possible lawsuits along the way. Also, organizational business structures help in the avoidance of conflict , which is an expressed struggle between two interdependent parties who perceive in compatible goals scarce resources and interference from the other party in achieving their goals [Ronald B. Wading birds breed and build their nests in close proximity to water, allowing them to have access to food while raising their young. In North America, the snowy egret s favorite habitats include salt marshes, shallow bays, and mangroves. Snowy egrets prefer similar habitats throughout South and Central America and the Caribbean (Weslosky, 2002). Such features are presumed to be desirable due to the protection they provide from predators on the ground (Frederick, 2002). Nests are often built using sticks, reeds, and other vegetation and constructed in trees, shrubs, or other aquatic vegetation (Elphick, 2014).
