Analysis Of Ram Charan s New York Times Bestseller,...
Strategic implementation is the process that turns strategies and plans into actions in order to
accomplish strategic objectives and goals. It should be considered the blueprint for realizing the
organization s vision. The success of any strategy is solely dependent upon the effectiveness of its
implementation and execution. Ram Charan s New York Times bestseller, Execution: The Discipline
of Getting Things Done, refers to implementation and execution of strategy as a systematic way of
exposing reality and acting on it. The framework for successful implementation includes building an
organization capable of executing strategy, proper resource allocation, support policies, continuous
improvement, performance based incentives, and strategic leadership. KaBloom founder, David
Hartstein, provided a sound strategy to realize his vision, however flaws in various elements of
implementation led to continued problems for KaBloom. Executing the Vision As we learned in
Section 3: Strategy Formulation, KaBloom sought to employ a differentiation strategy in effort to
create a competitive edge. They created brand recognition and a niche within the market through
visual differentiation, low cost, and product variety. Eye catching stores, strategically located in high
traffic areas, drew customers into the serene garden like atmosphere with flowers cascading onto the
storefront sidewalk. Their brand recognition was created through this concept of store design, which

Path-Goal Theory in Leadership Essay
Leadership has been studied from a wide range of perspectives and thus it means different things to
different people. Some people view leadership as the focus of group processes, some others view it
from a personality or skills perspective, to some others leadership is an act or behavior, some school
of thought describe leadership in terms of power relationship while some view leadership as a
transformational process (Northouse, 2012). Looking at the various definitions of leadership, there are
various terms that are important; including the fact that leadership is a process that involves influence
and the attainment of a common goal, and usually occurs in the context of a group (Northouse, 2012).
The path goal theory is one of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is because the leader is better suited to assess the needs of his followers and clarify goals in
various situations thereby increasing job satisfaction of the employees and thus retention rates (Dixon
Hart, 2010).
Dixon and Hart (2010) conducted a study among full time white and blue collar workers in a
multinational manufacturing located in a Unites States firm to assess the effect of path goal theory on
work group effectiveness, and to determine the relationship between the various types of path goal
leadership styles and turnover intention. Participants were drawn from various sections of the
company including production/ manufacturing, distribution, logistics, technology, cleaning, painting
and recycling in other to have a good representation of the employees. The study utilized the
Perceived Leadership Behavior Scale, Perceived work group effectiveness scale and turn over
intention scale to measure the variables. The results showed that there was a positive impact of path
goal leadership styles on work effectiveness. The types of leadership styles tested were instrumental,
participative, and supportive with the instrumental having the highest correlation with work
effectiveness; followed by participative and lastly supportive leadership. The study also revealed that a
negative correlation existed between instrumental and participative leadership and turn over intention;

Fahrenheit 451 Week 3 Assignment
I picked the top panel on page seven of chapter 12. I picked this panel because of the shape, the
iconography, and the closure that is created. This panel is in the shape of a rectangle and makes it
seem like this moment is stretched out and paused. It is very still because of all the death that is
blocked off by the gutter, but it is still surrounding freezing it into a quiet moment of stillness. It is
also a moment to moment transition panel, so the sense of time being stretched is further emphasized
by this. If you look at Laurie s distressed face, you will notice that her tear is the shape of the blood
splatter on the iconic Watchmen smiley face symbol. With a little closure, it makes it seem as though
she is crying tears of blood for all the dead people. Also, Laurie is wearing a choker with a skull icon
on it that tactfully emphasizes the destruction of New York. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

It has finally gone dark. In contrast, there is a sign for the Promethean Cab Company saying, Bringing
Light to the World. This is ironic because Prometheus is a character from Greek mythology who was
punished by the gods for stealing fire from the heavens to give to humans. Yet, a human, Adrian, stole
that very light from the world and plunged it into darkness. Even more ironically, in Halo 4 there is a
type of A.I. that is named Promethean

Essay On Inventory Management
One of the most important aspects to consider when comparing the current purchasing strategy with
the proposed one is the impact of direct deliveries from external suppliers to the central warehouse on
the lead times of spare parts which are ordered by the warehouse planners. Lead times have a big
influence on inventory planning and replenishment policies and lead time savings can be very
beneficial for the business of a warehouse and the performance of a SPSC (de Treville et al. 2004).
Hiller and Liebermann (2001) regard unnecessarily long lead times as a form of waste and minimizing
or avoiding waste as a key component of superior inventory management. In the current setting, three
stages of the SPSC are involved in the purchasing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
when the supplier is located closer to the warehouse than to the respective factory.
The lead time reductions which could be realized with a change from the current to the proposed
purchasing strategy would lead to several improvements for the warehouse planning which are
presented in the following. Shorter lead times would facilitate a more flexible and customer oriented
planning and would lead to a reduction of uncertainty. According to the BAAS planners, this
uncertainty could be reduced especially in the context of forecasting the demand during the lead time.
Obviously, the lead time demand forecasts would be more accurate when the lead times could be
reduced because the shorter the demand period which has to be forecasted is, the more precise will be
the forecast.30 In addition, shorter lead times would consequently lead to lower demands during the
lead time and would result in less variability. Lower lead time demands, less variability and a
reduction of uncertainty would automatically reduce the necessary safety stocks at the warehouse.
Hence, shorter lead times would also result in a reduction of average inventories, reorder levels and
order up to levels. Decreasing average inventories imply less capital tied up in inventory and higher
stockturns. Moreover, less average inventories mean less inventory holding costs. The head of the
BAAS planning department mentioned two additional positive aspects of shorter lead times. Firstly,
large and

New York City s East Village
How do you measure a year in the life? In daylights, in sunsets, in midnights, in cups of coffee, in
inches, in miles, in laughter, in strife. This is the song from the Broadway musical hit Rent. The play
is a perfect mix of catchy rock songs, real life problems and experiences with exciting characters and
storylines that made the show destined to be a hit. And a hit it became, as it is a winner of the Tony
Award for Best Musical and Pulitzer Prize winner for Drama. The play is set in New York City s East
Village during the HIV/AIDS epidemic in the late 1980s. The story focuses on eight impoverished
young artists whom are struggling with addiction, AIDS and hope. The play was written in 1993 by
Jonathan Larson, whom based it loosely off of Puccini s La Boheme. The production was initially
performed in an Off Broadway theatre until it was moved in 1996 to Broadway s Nederlander Theatre.
With its success, director Chris Columbus transitioned the play into a film in 2005. The film has
proven to be an even bigger success and even became an important part of American culture. The
storyline with its breakthrough themes have shed a light into the struggles and life during this time
period. The musical and film have important comparisons and differences throughout, which this
paper will highlight, along with its elements.
Rent follows eight impoverished friends struggling to stay alive such as Mark. Mark is an aspiring

Positive Influences Of The Internet Essay
In 1983, an invention was introduced that would shape the future of American society and interactions
around the world. The society would begin to be centered around technology and shift online. A
plethora of advantages and societal changes has sparked negative thoughts about how the internet has
changed our lives. The ability for our computers to communicate has left us as easy targets for hackers
and has sucked the American youth into a zombie like state into their phones. Many worry the internet
is degrading our culture. When referring to the invention of writing and reading, Plato denounced
writing as inhuman and warned that writing weakened the mind and that it threatened to destroy
people s memory (Furedi). People are often scared of new innovations because they are aware of its
potential to revolutionize their culture. Adjusting to unfamiliar concepts and innovations can be
uncomfortable and difficult for most people. Similarly, modern day sceptics look at the internet in a
negative light because of its rapidly increasing impact on our society. What most tend to forget is the
positive influences of the internet. The increased interconnection brought by the internet has led to a
society that values productivity, rapid production of ideas, and social awareness.
The idea of the internet first appeared in August of 1962 from J.C.R. Licklider, a professor at MIT. He
came up with a concept called Galactic Network , an idea that envisioned a network of computers

Compare And Contrast All Quiet On The Western Front And Night
Essay draft All Quiet on the Western Front and Night are two novels that talk about wars and author s
experiences. They are different in author s perspective which All Quiet on the Western was written in a
German soldier s view and Night was in Jewish people s view, one is the warrior and one is the victim.
Despite those differences, these works share the same idea of the dehumanization of war and how it
can physically and mentally affect people by using real events and ironic writing style.
The writing style in both All Quiet on the Western Front and Night have a lot in common that the
author used irony tones to express the emotion of detesting of war. For example, We are old folk

Maslow vs. Mcgregor
Backgrounds
Douglas McGregor was a management professor at the MIT Sloan School of Management. He
introduced a new motivational theory in his book The Human Side of Enterprise , stating that all
workers were divided into two groups: Theory X and Theory Y. Theory X workers were lazy,
irrational and unreliable, and were only motivated by money and threatened by punishment. Theory Y
workers were able to seek and accept responsibilities and fulfil any goals given.
The Human Side of Enterprise, written my McGregor in 1960, was voted the fourth most influential
management book of the 20th century by the Fellows of the Academy of Management. The ideas and
theories shown in the book have remained relevant and are taught in Universities across ... Show more

Social needs acquired by such employees include love, acceptance and belonging. They must feel
accepted and a sense of worthiness before they can work up to fulfilling other, more difficult needs.
The esteem level on Maslow s Hierarchy of Needs is the need for appreciation and respect. After the
other levels of needs have been fulfilled, the esteem needs begin to play a prominent role in
motivating behaviour. Theory Y employees will be motivated to gain respect in their organisation by
achieving company objectives and by showing management their skills and abilities. The top need
desired by such employees is self actualisation. Maslow himself said;
What a man can be, he must be
What he meant by this is that people must achieve their full potential as human beings and that
nothing else is worth more that becoming the best you can be. Theory Y employees spend their
working lives striving for self actualisation, which is the ultimate source of motivation. It stimulates
the desire for more once experienced.
Contrasts
Although Maslow and McGregor are thinking alike, as I mentioned earlier, The Human Side of
Enterprise makes no concrete references to Maslow s theories. He doesn t seem to recognise the
condition of lower level needs to be met for people to aspire to those of higher level. McGregor
simply separates workers into different groups

Egg Condition Of Egg Research Paper
An egg has the capability of withstanding a large amount of force as long as the force in distributed
evenly around the egg. For example, an egg can be thrown like a baseball and sometimes the egg won
t break if it lands from a high toss into grass. When the force of an egg is focused at one point it will
break but if it is evened out around the egg, the egg has a higher chance of not breaking. Along with
evening out the force, it will also benefit the egg if the impact is decreased with the help of outside
objects surrounding the egg. The structure should absorb and deflect the force of impact. The design
should lift the egg up allowing the structure around it to take some of the impact before it reaches the
egg. Which will increase the likelihood that the egg will not break. ... Show more content on

Both are lightweight, but will create a sound structure to put the egg in. The styrofoam will be a small
square with a hollowed out center to put the egg in. This will take some of the impact from the drop
but not enough. Around the styrofoam there will be a slightly larger cardboard box. It will be filled
with cardboard separators that will keep the square of styrofoam, with the egg in it, from touching the
bottom and sides of the cardboard box. The separators will be shaped like bridges and multiple
separators will be placed around the inside of the cardboard box. The less force and impact on the egg
the better. The egg itself is made up of many part inside. It has the shell around the outside, the
membrane, the air pocket, the white, and the yolk. Laying the egg on its side makes the egg more
susceptible to it breaking. The longer sides of the egg are the weakest part. The top and bottom of the
egg are the stronger. The air pocket acts as a natural airbag and I want to take advantage of that. I plan
to place the egg in the styrofoam sitting on one of the arches of the egg, or sitting up and

The Impact Of Employment Conditions On Occupation
The impacts of employment conditions on occupation fulfillment is that people decide work
fulfillment by looking at what they are getting from the occupation and what they might want to or
trust that they ought to get. For instance, if a worker is accepting a yearly compensation of $35,000
and trusts that he or she ought to be accepting a compensation of $30,000 than he or she will feel
fulfillment; in any case, if the worker trusts that he or she ought to get $40,000 than he or she will feel
dissatisfaction. This correlation would apply to every occupation aspect including: aptitude level,
position, limited time openings and supervision. The impacts of low employment fulfillment can be
extensive and this issue is of sympathy toward independent company proprietors and also huge
organizations. On the off chance that workers are not content with their occupations, a few regions of
their work are influenced and their conduct can likewise influence different employees. When one
employee is hopeless doing their occupation, the majority of the other employees they come into
contact with will be influenced by their disposition. Unfortunately, if you see somebody who is so
clearly unhappy, it will have you wondering what is wrong taking you away from what you need to be
doing. Negative states of mind can spread through a work environment like an out of control fire. Low
occupation fulfillment, combined with low representative assurance breaks even with an absence of
profitability

Walmart And Macy s Retail Stores
The two retail stores I have selected are JCPenny and Macy s. These two retail stores can be found
together at many malls. For example, Westfield South Shore Mall in Bayshore on Long Island
contains both JCPenny and Macy s. Although they are not directly next to each other they are most
certainly competitors. They contain many of the same brands however they both have a different
approach to how they display the brand. I focused on Levi s for men and within the Levi s department
there was other garments and accessories other than jeans. The assortment in JCPenny was clearly
superior. Other than jeans they had long sleeves, graphic long sleeves, flannels, winter jackets, denim
jackets, socks, underwear, belts, and a variety of hats. Every section was well stocked and had
numerous different sizes. In addition every style was placed on its correct rack or shelf. Macy s on the
other hand, was very unorganized. It was quite hard to determine what style I was looking at because
nothing was where it belonged and there was pile of pants just thrown onto display tables. However
they did have a small selection of ski hats, very few belts, underwear, thermals, and winter jackets.
The only thing that seemed fully stocked was the men s underwear however I was only able to reach
from the side because there was a cart blocking my reach. The cart was stocked with various different
styles and colors of jeans that were just left there. The layout in JCPenny was much more appealing

Summary Of All Quiet On The Western Front By Nicolo...
When you do something wrong and you are afraid of the consequences, there is usually one parent
that you would prefer to get scolded by. This is because they are the one that is more lenient or
clement, as opposed to cruel. In All Quiet on the Western Front by Erich Maria Remarque and The
Prince by Nicolo Machiavelli, the question of whether it is better to be cruel or clement arises.
Machiavelli devises that leaders should strive to be considered clement over cruel for a few reasons. In
the book by Erich Remarque, there is a leader named Himmelstoss that Machiavelli could dissect
based on the beginning description of him. Machiavelli would determine that Himmelstoss is cruel
because he does not give his troops any mercy and by doing so, has garnered their hatred of him.
Machiavelli would determine Himmelstoss as cruel due to the lack of mercifulness he gives to his
subordinates. When Himmelstoss found out that the character Tjaden wet his bed when he slept at
night, instead of giving him a shake down or something similar, a more sinister plan formulated in his
mind, He hunted up another piss a bed ... and quartered him with Tjaden. Himmelstoss put these two
so that one occupied the upper and the other the lower bunk. The man underneath of course had a vile
time. The next night they were changed over and the lower one put on top so that he could retaliate.
(Remarque 46).Himmelstoss cruelty is highlighted masterfully here. Instead of simply yelling at
Tjaden or making him scrub boots till his hands bled, he devised an atrocious way of punishment.
Further adding to his sense of cruelty, Himmelstoss includes another soldier in an attempt to
demoralize and humiliate both of them.Clemency, even in a small form, can have a big impact. Too
much clemency, and the people run rampant. Too little, and there isn t a people to lead. Himmelstoss
clearly leans more toward one side when he should be seeking a balance between the two, Therefore a
prince, so long as he keeps his subjects united and loyal, ought not to mind the reproach of cruelty;
because with a few examples he will be more merciful than those, who through too much mercy, allow
disorders to arise... (Machiavelli 1). What the quote means is that there

Igbo People In Things Fall Apart
One of Achebe s main points in the novel is that the Igbo people had their own complex traditions,
beliefs, and culture before the arrival of the Europeans. He does this by including proverbs, as well as
descriptions and examples of their: established social hierarchy, value system, devotion to gods and
ancestors, emphasis on hard work and and personal achievements that define masculinity, rituals of
harvest, and their democratic government consisting of the Council of Elders, the egwugwu, the
Oracles. Achebe also achieves this through language; throughout the novel, Achebe includes the Igbo
language in contexts that name specific traditions and ideas that portray that their culture was not
primitive. For example, the word agbala, meaning ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The blurb on the back of the book reads, Uniquely and richly African, at the same time it reveals
Achebe s keen awareness of the human qualities common to men of all times and places (Achebe,
1959), perhaps why the book has been published in fifty different languages (Chinua, 2011, p.15). I
agree with Achebe that people are similar in that they have fear, desires, and aspirations. People make
decisions based on their beliefs, emotions, and our personal experiences and those of others, which
may at times contradict one another and lead a disastrous end. Achebe successfully evokes emotions
to display human nature. Change, represented by the conflicts and tensions within Igbo society as well
as changes introduced by colonial rule and Christianity can be devastating. Additionally, we see
Okonkwo s internal struggles driven by his fears becoming like his lazy father who dies with no titles
and without honor, while attempting to achieve success. We also see how Okonkwo battles with
himself after having killed Ikemefuna, who called him father , for fear of being thought weak. He did
not sleep at night. He tried not to think about Ikemefuna, but the more he tried the more he thought
about him (Achebe, 1959, p. 63). The reader is able to sympathize with Okonkwo while disagreeing

Humorist Synthesis Essay
The concept of humor inciting change continues to be disagreed upon globally. Whereas mordant
humor demands mental depth to understand the purpose, blatant impunity messages are accessible and
easily created by humorists. Thus, humorists that are vital to society often rely upon humor with an
underlying message. As a result, de Botton s claim of humorists serving society is true, provided that
the message is dangerous to state blatantly.
Humorists revolve heavily around trending topics to help appeal to their audience. This practice lends
itself to humorists often becoming politically focused. Ideally, humorists would remove themselves
from appearing to be partisan but, as proven during the most recent presidential election, humorists
relied upon blatant jabs at both candidates. This resulted with audiences that found comic relief
through their dislike of candidates as opposed to the comedian s message. These circumstances led to
an election of the best of the worst, rather than electing candidates based on policy. This is an ... Show

The first time in which humor served a social function in America was when the African Americans
displayed silent sabotage. Although this form of peaceful revolt also relied on faking sickness and not
working, humor was implemented by slaves in an act of cultural retention. Cultural blending quickly
led to cultural oppression for slaves; slave owners prevented their slaves from acting dissimilar from
whites. Thus, slaves relied on humor with underlying meanings as a form of preventing cultural
oppression. The slaves created stories and songs that developed into African American folklore; this
was allowed because it appeared to praise white people. This folklore ultimately made fun of white
culture and served as a message of rebellion that was otherwise too dangerous for slaves to

Plato
Society is currently arguing over how to address the issue of violence against homosexuals. Many
educators and activists suggest that the educational systems nationwide address the issues of sexual
orientation in classrooms to combat stereotypes and myths that lead to violence against homosexuals.
Within this debate, there is controversy about when to deploy educational stratagems regarding sexual

It is hard to define exactly which issues are most important to focus on and discuss in curricula.
Lesbian and gay studies means many things to people, at different times, in different countries. In fact,
it often seems easier to define what it is not rather than what it is, (Weeks, 2000, pp. 2). Overall the
issues that should be included in curricula, in some form at all grade levels, is the lives of GLBITTQ
people, including their identities, their experiences of oppression, and their struggles for recognition.
In addition, curriculum should include ways to live with these differences. Furthermore, the rights for
GLBITTQ community should be discussed, especially the right for all people to be treated equally and
fairly. Curriculum should lead students to question the heterosexual norm that is presented in this
culture and how that makes other people feel who are different.
All teachers should be educated about queer issues before incorporating them into their classes. As
any other subject in schools, students should be taught the most basic foundations of queer theory and
then provided with more information as the years progress. In elementary education, the fundamental
queer issue that should be taught is that our society is filled with diverse cultures and families and it is
important to include and treat

The Characteristics Of The Great Horned Owls
What do you think of when you hear the word, owl? You might picture a barred owl with its elegant
white feathers and small beak. But what about its distant relative? The Great Horned owl lives up to
its name by its horned ears. This remarkable creature really stands out in the bird family due to the
lack of predators and how small and aggressive it is. The Great Horned Owl is one of many Owls.
Although there are many different species of owls, this one is unique. This particular owl is small, has
a different diet, is widely known, and is one of the more radical looking owls. The Great Horned Owl
is a beautiful, majestic type of bird. It s a smaller kind of owl, but it sure does pack a punch. It s

so they would be easier to spot in the night time. All owls are known for how aggressive and strong
they are. Well, this one in particular lives up to the phrase, tiny but mighty. Their bodies average

with Henry Mancini. By examining Touch of Evil and Breakfast at Tiffany s through the lens of Henry
Mancini s music choices we can see that Mancini s music choices were just as important as Blake

at this scene, there is also a lot of commotion just like in the beginning. 53:25 where Vargas is riding

Societies Maintaining Control in The Allegory of the Cave...
In The Allegory of the Cave and The Giver, these societies maintain control in different ways. In The
Allegory of the Cave, the prisoners are physically restrained, but on the other hand, the community
members in The Giver have a precision of language rule. The people have been... shackled by the legs
and neck...unable to turn their heads around. The puppeteers in The Allegory of the Cave have
controlled the prisoners by shackling them by their legs and neck so they cannot move. They cannot
go against the puppeteers nor can they move freely to do whatever they want so, the prisoners do what
the puppeteers tell them. Do you love me? ... Jonas. You, of all people. Precision of language, please!
... our community can t function smoothly if people don t use precise language. (127) This quote in
The Giver shows how precision of language controls the members of the community and cannot
function without it. It limits a range of experience by using more precise words, so they would not
over react. While the puppeteers maintain control of the prisoners physically, the Elders sustain it by
controlling them mentally. The societies in The Allegory of the Cave and The Giver, maintain control
in similar ways too. In The Allegory of the Cave and The Giver, the controllers both limit the range of
experience of the members in the community. Thus they stay in the same place so that there is only

Ralph Waldo Emerson, an American writer of poetry, lecturer, essayist and leader of the
Transcendentalist movement in the 19th century once said, A great man is always willing to be little .
Meaning that the best, brightest, strongest, bravest, smartest, most courageous people are always
willing to duck down to their colleagues level and make them feel as equals even though they aren t.
This quote could not better describe the greatest people of their respective generations, Rav Shlomo
Yitzchaki (a.k.a Rashi) and Rav Moshe Feinstein. These two great Jewish men asserted themselves as
leader of the Jewish people in each of their times and fought valiantly for to keep the Jewish people
together through arguably the two greatest ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Rav Shlomo Yitzchaki was born to Rabbi Yitzchak and his wife (not much is known about her) in
1040 in the town of Troyes, located in Northeastern France historically southeast of Paris and as the
Capital of Champagne, where some say he received his early education. His father s distinguished
family traced itself back to Rabbi Yochanan Hasandlar, a student of the tanna, a torah sage around the
end of the second Jewish Temple, Rabbi Akiva ben Yosef, lived from about 50 C.E to about 132 C.E,
and from there to King David, who was leader of the ancient Israelite kingdom as it retook its
homeland. His mother was the sister of Rabbi Shimon Hazaken, the elder. With his wife, Rashi had
three daughters but no sons, and their names were Yocheved, who married Rabbi Meir ben Shmuel
(one of Rashi s greatest students), Miriam who married Yehuda be Nathan (also known as the Rivan,
the completer of Rashi s commentary to the tractate of Makkot), and Rachel. In turn, their children the
Rashbam, Rabbenu Tam etc. who became later known as the tosafist were practically commentators
on Rashi comments. When it came to supporting his family, Rashi supported them through wine
although it s unclear what he did in the process of it s creation, whether it was creating it or selling it.
Furthermore, he was the unofficial Rabbi of the entire Troyes/Europe, because he was the greatest
torah scholar of his time and had his own Yeshiva. Therefore, he probably received money through
answering people s halachic questions. Unfortunately, on July 13, 1105 Rashi died at the age of 65, yet
had managed to be recognized as the foremost leader of his generations and write a commentary on
more than no one had done before him or after him. To conclude, Rashi

Non-Sexual Child Abuse
Child abuse and neglect happens in a variety of situations, for an array of reasons. Children are
infrequently subject to one form of abuse at a time. Adults can experience a range of psychological,
emotional and social problems associated to childhood abuse. Emotional abuse may be similarly
harmful to a child as physical abuse and neglect, some people also say, sexually abused children are
typically: mistreated in other ways as well. Some scholars discovered physical abuse, emotional
abuse, and neglect were same insults that affect wide ranging psychiatric vulnerabilities. Child
maltreatment had equal consequences for boys and girls of different races. Importantly, non sexual
child maltreatment harmfully influenced two dimensions of a child s

John Keating School Of Transcendentalism
After reviewing all the application I consider John Keating to be an exceptional teacher for the School
of Transcendentalism.I believe Mr.Keating has some similar traits to Henry Thoreau David.Keating
tells his students to rip out a page that explains how poetry can be measured from an English book.
Keating teaches his students by taking them outside the classroom to encourage them to act for
themselves and become independent. In a school of transcendentalists theses kinds of actions are
needed to encourage students that thinking outside of society s rules are outstanding. Mr. Keating and
Henry David Thoreau have a few related ideas on how society is unjust. Mr. Keating believes that the
students should question everything including society.Keating

The Importance Of Obedience, And Purity Of Worship
A promise kept, military advancement, faith, a land gift, courage, the importance of obedience, and
purity of worship. These are just a few of the important themes identified in the book of Joshua.
Joshua is the sixth book in the Greek and English Bible; and the first of the twelve historical books. In
the Hebrew Scriptures, Joshua is listed as the first book in the former Prophets section . The book of
Joshua is a history book, containing the account of God fulfilling His promise to Abraham, Isaac,
Jacob, Moses and the rest of the Israelites.
Through this historical narrative we see a faithful God deliver on a promise made hundreds of years
earlier, a new leader come into his own as he leads his people into Canaan and we come to understand
the extreme importance of reading, meditating on and obeying the Word of God. In this book Joshua
tells us how Israel went from a nomadic lifestyle to a nation at rest in a permanent land. It all starts off
with God commissioning Joshua as the new leader of the Nation of Israel. Next, instead of seeing an
unbroken string of military successes and conquests, we read about the high and low points of the
nation s growing possession of Canaan .
From a literary point of view the author of this book uses the narrative style. There is also evidence of
installation genre, and phrase repetition. Verses 1 9 of chapter are the account of God commissioning
Joshua as the new leader of Israel. The commissioning has two parts. First is the promises

The Soldier Of The Army
The skills required to be an officer in the US army have changed dramatically over the course of the
army s lifetime. The training, or lack of training, shaped the officers into what the army decided it
needed at the time, while also shaping the officer s own combat experiences as they were shipped to
their respective wars. These things created an atmosphere of leadership that were radically different
from each iteration of the US army, producing different kinds of officers for each. The first thing that
set apart each of these officers was the training they had as officers and soldiers before being shipped
off into combat. The stories of each of the officers shows a progression of the idea of the professional
soldier overtaking the idea of the citizen warrior that dominated the culture of the army during the
earlier years of American history. This culture of the citizen warrior is easily seen during the Civil War
and the training Rhodes recieved both as a soldier and an officer. The army seemed wholly
unprofessional at the time as it seemed to rely on the grunts as much as the officers for direction.
During Rhode s first few days in the army he was elected First Sergeant by the company he was
serving with at the time. He was clearly chosen simply because the men around him liked him and
certainly not due to any experience he had in the field. Just what a First Sergeant s duty might be I had
no idea... (All for the Union, 5). Shortly after, he was asked once again for his

Cystochrome C Oxidase Lab Report
Intro When first learning about cells, students are told the mitochondria is the powerhouse of the cell.
While this is true, most of the energy made actually comes from the electron transport chain that
occurs on the inner membrane of the mitochondria. A series of proteins are active in the electron
transport chain, but the fourth one, cytochrome c oxidase, is the one that is important for our purposes.
Cytochrome c oxidase is a large integral protein, that is made up of several subunits, some which
provide the target of aspirin (Norman, C., et al.). The subunits together have a very important role that
is universal though eukaryotic cells. Cytochrome c oxidase can reduce 250 molecules of O in a
second. The energy released from the oxidation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The R^2 value is only 0.9411, indicating that this line is not close to a perfect fit, which is also seen
from the relationship of the data points to the line, but it is accurate enough to give something to go
off of. From here the true concentration could be calculated by working the calculations from the 40X
and 100X solutions to the pure sample. Once the true concentrations were known, the total protein in
the samples could be calculated. The results of the calculations are found in Table 1. By taking the
calculated total protein, and the average cytochrome c oxidase assay we are able to find the specific
activity of cytochrome c. A negative value in the cytochrome c oxidase assay was preferred, as that
indicated less color than the cytochrome c provided, and thus that cytochrome c oxidase was present
to react. All negative numbers were converted to positive numbers, and as there was no logical way
for a higher concentration of cytochrome c to occur, the samples that resulted in a positive result, were
determined to be a failure to detect the presence of cytochrome c oxidase. Samples 1, 3, and 4 did not
have any cytochrome c oxidase in them, and were therefore not capable of having a specific activity of
cytochrome c

Through his political activism and his artwork, Douglas dramatically changed the way other artists
viewed African Americans. Politically, he helped found and served as president for the activist
organization that drastically assisted with employing thousands of artists.
he 1920s and 1930s brought drastic changes to the lives of many African Americans. Geographically,
they migrated toward the urban, industrialized North, not only to escape racial prejudices and
economic hardships, but also to attain higher social and economic status. This Great Migration

Through his political activism and artwork, Douglas was able to reveal the ideas and values
exemplified during the Harlem Renaissance, despite significant criticism of his style.
With this rebirth of traditional African culture, the number of African American artists rapidly
increased. It became difficult for these artists to gain employment, even with the assistance of
government work relief programs, such as the Works Progress Administration (WPA). Set up by
President Roosevelt as part of his New Deal program, the WPA offered jobs to thousands of
unemployed artists, in an attempt to boost the nation s morale, as well as stimulate the depressed
economy. Despite its good intentions, the government program was unable to pay decent wages and
failed to provide employment for nearly five million artists (American). In response to this failure, the
Harlem Artist Guild, founded in 1928, aggressively began to work alongside the WPA to ensure the
success of African American artists. Led by its first president, Aaron Douglas, the activist organization
played an influential role in helping artists attain the recognition necessary to qualify them for the
WPA work projects (Bearden 131). With the assistance of Douglas, the Harlem Artist Guild, and the
WPA, millions of African American artists succeeded in gaining employment despite the hard times of
the 1930s (Artnoir s).

For most college students, gaining weight during their first year (and the following years) is a reality.
While it might not be a full fifteen pounds, 23% of students will gain around ten pounds in just their
first semester, and 70% of students will gain at least twelve pounds by the time they graduate

Country Profile on Finland
Country Profile on Finland
Finland is a republic located in Northern Europe between Sweden and Russia, with Norway to the
north. Finland is thought to have been settled soon after the Ice Age and first inhabited by the Sami
people. By the 12th century, Finns speakers had pushed the Sami people out and Christian mercenaries
were preparing to convert Finland. In 1157, as a result of a crusade led by Swedish King Eric IX,
Sweden conquered Finland and as such, converted Finland to Christianity. However, by 1809, Sweden
surrendered Finland to Russia. The Czar, Alexander I of Russia, set up Finland as a Grand Duchy,
establishing himself as its monarch.
In 1917, in the midst of the March Revolution in Russia, where Russians protested as a result of the
effects of World War I, Finland took advantage of the time to declare its independence from Russia. In
1919, Finland adopted the constitution that is still used today and became a republic. By 1939, Finland
was once again attacked by the Soviet Union. Joseph Stalin offered Finland territory in exchange for
land that would protect northern Russia from an attack from the west. However, Finland refused to
accept this offer and the Soviet Union used force to obtain the territory, starting The Winter War. After
a few months of resistance, The Finns lost and the war culminated with the Treaty of Moscow, which
resulted in Finland surrendering 1and to the Soviet Union.

The True Hero In Wuulf And Beowulf
As Walter Cronkite, a former CBS anchorman, once said, In seeking truth you have to get both sides
of the story. In the epic poem Beowulf, the successful Danish warriors and their king, Hrothgar, are
heroically saved by Beowulf, the strongest, bravest man across all seas from Grendel s twelve year
massacre. In the novel Grendel, by John Gardner, the plot unfolds similarly; however, it is told
through the perspective of Grendel, the antagonist in Beowulf. The significant difference in
perspectives poses the complex question to readers asking, Who is the real monster? In the epic poem
and novel, Hrothgar, the Danish King, is the true monster through his influence, corruption, and
unmoral actions.
Being the ultimate ruler, Hrothgar initiates his monstrous character by influencing his loyal warriors.
Although some may argue that the Danes are evil, Hrothgar molds and motivates their actions as their
respected king. Rising to power and fame, Hrothgar built Herot, a celebratory mead hall to distribute
treasure and feast with his warriors. Through success in battles, Hrothgar, whose word was obeyed all
over the world, rewarded his loyal Danes with his treasure full hands in Beowulf (6). Receiving praise
and craving eternal fame, the Danes followed Hrothgar s instructions at all costs. Furthermore, the
Danes are influenced by Hrothgar through the Shaper s songs. Describing Herot, the Shaper sang of a
glorious mead hall whose light would shine to the end of the

campaign host cities and use examples of Communication Management for securing the Olympic
Committee voter bid.
For the Summer Olympic games in 2024 I choose Los Angeles as the host city because it hosted the
1932 games. Another reason I picked Los Angeles was because they are the most diverse city in
America but they are also the Western capital of the US, The Northern Capital of Latin America, and
Eastern capital of the Pacific Rim.
With that there are three main examples of communication management to help LA secure its vote in
the Olympic bid.
1) Communication Process Los Angeles released a video calling it LA24 and it shows why LA should
be chosen to hold the 2024 Olympics by having facts about LA come up throughout the video while

2) Sport Organizational Image LA has hosted the Olympic games in 1932 so they aren t new to this
huge sporting event. The target audience in the LA24 is focused on all ages and races. I think they

The decision on the Mandate did not take into account the wishes of the people of Palestine, despite
the Covenant s requirements that the wishes of these communities must be a principal consideration in
the selection of the Mandatory . This assumed special significance because, almost five years before
receiving the mandate from the League of Nations, the British Government had given commitments to
the Zionist Organization regarding the establishment of a Jewish national home in Palestine, for which
Zionist leaders had pressed a claim of historical connection since their ancestors had lived in Palestine
two thousand years earlier before dispersing in the Diaspora . During the period of the Mandate, the
Zionist Organization worked to secure the establishment of a Jewish national home in Palestine. The
indigenous people of Palestine, whose forefathers had inhabited the land for virtually the two

viewed it as an infringement of assurances of independence given by the Allied Powers to Arab

Comparison Of Isaac And Jephthah s Daughter
When examining the stories of Abraham s willingness to sacrifice Isaac, and Jephthah s sacrifice of his
daughter there are similarities. For instance, both Isaac and Jephthah s daughter were both only
children, and both were willing participants. However, there are also distinct differences as to how
both of these sacrifices initiated. The story of Isaac s sacrifice starts with God testing Abraham s by
telling him to take his son to Moriah and to offer him as a burnt offering (Authorized King James
Version, Genesis 22:1 2). Furthermore, upon arrival Abraham goes the process of the sacrifice, but
tells Isaac that God will provide the lamb (AKJV, Genesis 22:8). The complete obedience and faith
that Abraham displayed was the reason that God spared Isaac as per their covenant. ... Show more

Secondly, before being willing to lead Gilead he had to be assured that he would become their captain

God s instructions, while Jephthah seemingly takes his time sending numerous messages to the King
of Ammon (AKJV, Judges 11: 12 28). Finally, the vow Jephthah makes appears to be Jephthah s doing
rather than Gods, and as this is likely a suzerainty covenant Jephthah was obliged to uphold his end of

Okonkwo s Foil
Opposites attract. This is a very cliché quote used by physicists and other scientific personnel, but it
rings true in many different ways. In literature, the correct term for a character that sets off or
enhances another character by contrast is called a foil. Pairs of characters that are foils to each other
have very opposing views and personalities, but their presence with each other illustrates the qualities
in a better light. The book Things Fall Apart by Chinua Achebe is a fictional novel which includes a
main character named Okonkwo. Okonkwo has some very distinguishing features about him, but the
fact that he has a foil in the novel ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When Okonkwo explains to Obierika how he would strive to have a son like his because he is so
strong and mighty, Obierika answers with a very pacifying response. You worry yourself for nothing,
said Obierika. The children are still very young. (Achebe 66). This passage shows that Obierika is not
so concerned about power and supremacy.
Because of the contrast in Obierika s traits, he is definitely a foil to Okonkwo because Okonkwo is
very strong minded, dogmatic, and hot tempered. If something does not go his way, Okonkwo will do
something very irrational about it. When Okonkwo asked his second wife where his third wife,
Ojiugo, was he became angered because his second wife lied to him about Ojiugo s whereabouts. He
walked back to his obi to await Ojiugo s return. And when she returned he beat her very heavily
(Achebe 29). Okonkwo s rationale of beating his third wife was in very poor judgment because he
beat her during the Week of Peace. The Week of Peace was a week among the tribes where there was
supposed to be no violence. This shows that Okonkwo has a very short temper and he does not tolerate
nearly as much as Obierika can tolerate.
Not only does Okonkwo differ from Obierika in the fact of their personality traits, but Obierika is a
foil to Okonkwo because of Okonkwo s hunger for power. Okonkwo himself was known as the most
powerful man in his village because he threw Amalinze the Cat, who was a great wrestler who had

Importance Of The Tenth Amendment
The Tenth Amendment
The powers not delegated to the united states by the constitution, nor prohibited by it to the states, are
reserved to the states respectively, or to the people. The purpose of the tenth Amendment is to define
the division of power between the federal government and state governments.
The Tenth Amendment: Protecting Freedom Against Big Government
The Tenth Amendment protects Americans from intrusive federal government action, The federal
government only has powers listed in the constitution. Sometimes the federal government may try to
do whatever they want, but do not consider the state powers. Federal government must follow the
constitution thoroughly because they are only specifically reserved to that.

Congress wanted to change the amendment over time but the interpretive rule did not allow it . Since
then congress had and understanding of power and they had to come to a balance of power. The

Twelve Angry Men By Reginald Rose
Through Twelve Angry Men Flim, the author, Reginald Rose, paints a picture of a small portion of
American society in the mid 1950s. At this time, the United States was envolving into an internal

Synopsis Of The Sdn Technology
The SDN Technology states the reference points and interfaces to the controller. A number of
functions, which are internal to the SDN Controller, are specified in the architecture. The SDN
controller is restricted to features that allow interoperable applications that are to be deployed. The
architecture is ambiguous to the protocols across the interfaces.
The architecture of SDN allows the controller to control data plane resources. SDN simplifies the
configuration of the wide range of resources that are available. SDN must be applicable within
systems that already exist which contain many organizations with the need for security of the
information that is being shared. Limitations in the real world include the need to exist with the
present support systems, administrative or technology fields. Functional subsets maybe summarized
from the SDN architecture if the environment is not as complex. Standardization, validation and
integration are minimized whenever required, using simple mechanisms. A complex system is
partitioned into modular parts in architecture. This helps in managing the level of complexity and
reusing the components in order to meet other practical or business goals. Component partitioning is
an added advantage when it comes to the type of services delivered to the end user.
At the same time SDN architecture is sufficiently complex. An SDN controller can be deployed as any
number of software components, but these components require maintaining a self

The Long Road Of Gettysburg
The Long Road To Gettysburg Jim Murphy wrote a book called the Long Road To Gettysburg. It is a
nonfiction book. It has 109 pages. The two main characters are General Robert E. Lee for the South
and General Meade for the North. Other minor characters include General Joseph Hooker of the North
and General John Dooley of the South. This book teaches you the Horrors of Gettysburg. The theme is
violence is never the answer. In the beginning it all started with an idea that Robert E lee proposed. It
stated that they spring a surprise attack in Pennsylvania. Everybody agreed to this idea because all the
battles before had happened on southern soil. So, they started marching.THey marched about 10 miles
each day. They did this for about 8 days. They marched From Virginia to Pennsylvania. The North
found out about the planned attack and began to march towards the South. They eventually met up in a
small farm town in Pennsylvania called Gettysburg. This would later be the same soil in which 40,000
Americans lay wounded or dead. Little did they know this would be the bloodiest battle in American
history. After that, they commenced in an intense battle. They fought in many places such as Cemetery
Hill, Culp s Hill, Little Round Top, Big Round Top, Devil s Den, the Peach Orchard and many more
locations. The north set up their Headquarters in a farmhouse. The enemy figured That out. They began

Stock Characters In Tartuffe
A minor character contributes heavily in a play, particularly by revealing information or giving
additional insight about major characters. Tartuffe, by Molière, is a French satire which is over
exaggerated and critical towards the upper class. It also ridicules hypocrisy and the upper class.
Molière s unique choice of using stock characters contributes to the technical development of the
work. Specifically, Dorine holds the role of the Zanni, the servant who provides comedic relief.
Madame Pernelle fits the category of the Pantalone because despite being a woman, she is wealthy
and an upperclassman, meaning she s at the top of the social pyramid. Orgon fits into the category of
the Dottore, as he is the head of the household and also at the top of the social pyramid. While,
Tartuffe is a hypocritical character identified as the Capitano of the play. He convinces Orgon and
Madame Pernelle that he is a devoutly pious and humble man, but behind his facade he is an ... Show

Without her, the motif of the truth about Tartuffe would not be revealed. Dorine is the person who
expresses through satire much of the exasperation the audience feels. From the beginning of the play,
we become acquainted with the truth about Tartuffe being a hypocrite, through Dorine. In Act I, Scene
I Dorine says, if anyone were to listen to him and believe in his maxims, one could not do anything
without committing a sin; for he controls everything, this carping critic . Through dialogue, Dorine
exposes Tartuffe to the audience. This affects our perception of Tartuffe, we become aware of who
Tartuffe really is and what his natural character is like. Dorine not being in the play would minimize
this opportunity for us as an audience. Dorine plays a very significant role in Tartuffe; if she wasn t a
part of the play, the audience would have a harder time navigating the motif of truth within

Apachain Research Paper
Introduction
This proposal is to help bring to life the Semester on the Appalachain, a semester long expedition on
the Appalachian Trail for a group of ten participants, in order to provide an environment that can not
be replicated in a typical classroom setting. In the proposal, it will provide research on the benefits of
experiential and expedition education, improvement on psychological health, and organizations that
run similar programs.
When you picture a classroom, what do you think of? You more than likely picture a chalkboard,
desks for all the students and teacher. A new way of teaching has developed that removes students
from the stereotypical environment and places they in a new and engaging environment. This is
experiential education. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Compared to the Pacific Crest Trail and the Continental Divide Trail, the Appalachian Trail is widely
regarded as the safest options of the three. This is because the Appalachian Trail is accepted by the
communities it runs through. It is common to see members of the community be at the trailhead and
offer assistance to those that are passing by. Also, the spans between communities are relatively small.
On the Appalachian Trail Conservancy website, they state that do not need to carry more than 6 days
worth of food maximum because of how close resupply points

Strategic implementation is the process that turns strategies and plans into actions in order to accomplish strategic objectives and goals. It should be considered the blueprint for realizing the organization s vision. The success of any strategy is solely dependent upon the effectiveness of its implementation and execution. Ram Charan s New York Times bestseller, Execution: The Discipline of Getting Things Done, refers to implementation and execution of strategy as a systematic way of exposing reality and acting on it. The framework for successful implementation includes building an organization capable of executing strategy, proper resource allocation, support policies, continuous improvement, performance based incentives, and strategic leadership. KaBloom founder, David Hartstein, provided a sound strategy to realize his vision, however flaws in various elements of implementation led to continued problems for KaBloom. Executing the Vision As we learned in Section 3: Strategy Formulation, KaBloom sought to employ a differentiation strategy in effort to create a competitive edge. They created brand recognition and a niche within the market through visual differentiation, low cost, and product variety. Eye catching stores, strategically located in high traffic areas, drew customers into the serene garden like atmosphere with flowers cascading onto the storefront sidewalk. Some people view leadership as the focus of group processes, some others view it from a personality or skills perspective, to some others leadership is an act or behavior, some school of thought describe leadership in terms of power relationship while some view leadership as a transformational process (Northouse, 2012). Looking at the various definitions of leadership, there are various terms that are important; including the fact that leadership is a process that involves influence and the attainment of a common goal, and usually occurs in the context of a group (Northouse, 2012). This panel is in the shape of a rectangle and makes it seem like this moment is stretched out and paused. It is very still because of all the death that is blocked off by the gutter, but it is still surrounding freezing it into a quiet moment of stillness. It is also a moment to moment transition panel, so the sense of time being stretched is further emphasized by this. If you look at Laurie s distressed face, you will notice that her tear is the shape of the blood splatter on the iconic Watchmen smiley face symbol. • 5. Essay On Inventory Management One of the most important aspects to consider when comparing the current purchasing strategy with the proposed one is the impact of direct deliveries from external suppliers to the central warehouse on the lead times of spare parts which are ordered by the warehouse planners. Lead times have a big influence on inventory planning and replenishment policies and lead time savings can be very beneficial for the business of a warehouse and the performance of a SPSC (de Treville et al. 2004). Hiller and Liebermann (2001) regard unnecessarily long lead times as a form of waste and minimizing or avoiding waste as a key component of superior inventory management. The lead time reductions which could be realized with a change from the current to the proposed purchasing strategy would lead to several improvements for the warehouse planning which are presented in the following. Shorter lead times would facilitate a more flexible and customer oriented planning and would lead to a reduction of uncertainty. According to the BAAS planners, this uncertainty could be reduced especially in the context of forecasting the demand during the lead time. Obviously, the lead time demand forecasts would be more accurate when the lead times could be reduced because the shorter the demand period which has to be forecasted is, the more precise will be the forecast.30 In addition, shorter lead times would consequently lead to lower demands during the lead time and would result in less variability. Lower lead time demands, less variability and a reduction of uncertainty would automatically reduce the necessary safety stocks at the warehouse. Hence, shorter lead times would also result in a reduction of average inventories, reorder levels and order up to levels. Decreasing average inventories imply less capital tied up in inventory and higher stockturns. Moreover, less average inventories mean less inventory holding costs. The head of the BAAS planning department mentioned two additional positive aspects of shorter lead times. Firstly, large and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The society would begin to be centered around technology and shift online. A plethora of advantages and societal changes has sparked negative thoughts about how the internet has changed our lives. The ability for our computers to communicate has left us as easy targets for hackers and has sucked the American youth into a zombie like state into their phones. Many worry the internet is degrading our culture. When referring to the invention of writing and reading, Plato denounced writing as inhuman and warned that writing weakened the mind and that it threatened to destroy people s memory (Furedi). People are often scared of new innovations because they are aware of its potential to revolutionize their culture. Adjusting to unfamiliar concepts and innovations can be uncomfortable and difficult for most people. Similarly, modern day sceptics look at the internet in a negative light because of its rapidly increasing impact on our society. What most tend to forget is the positive influences of the internet. When the force of an egg is focused at one point it will break but if it is evened out around the egg, the egg has a higher chance of not breaking. Along with evening out the force, it will also benefit the egg if the impact is decreased with the help of outside objects surrounding the egg. • 11. The Impact Of Employment Conditions On Occupation The impacts of employment conditions on occupation fulfillment is that people decide work fulfillment by looking at what they are getting from the occupation and what they might want to or trust that they ought to get. For instance, if a worker is accepting a yearly compensation of $35,000 and trusts that he or she ought to be accepting a compensation of $30,000 than he or she will feel fulfillment; in any case, if the worker trusts that he or she ought to get $40,000 than he or she will feel dissatisfaction. This correlation would apply to every occupation aspect including: aptitude level, position, limited time openings and supervision. The impacts of low employment fulfillment can be extensive and this issue is of sympathy toward independent company proprietors and also huge organizations. On the off chance that workers are not content with their occupations, a few regions of their work are influenced and their conduct can likewise influence different employees. When one employee is hopeless doing their occupation, the majority of the other employees they come into contact with will be influenced by their disposition. Unfortunately, if you see somebody who is so clearly unhappy, it will have you wondering what is wrong taking you away from what you need to be doing. • 13. Summary Of All Quiet On The Western Front By Nicolo... When you do something wrong and you are afraid of the consequences, there is usually one parent that you would prefer to get scolded by. This is because they are the one that is more lenient or clement, as opposed to cruel. In All Quiet on the Western Front by Erich Maria Remarque and The Prince by Nicolo Machiavelli, the question of whether it is better to be cruel or clement arises. Machiavelli devises that leaders should strive to be considered clement over cruel for a few reasons. In the book by Erich Remarque, there is a leader named Himmelstoss that Machiavelli could dissect based on the beginning description of him. Machiavelli would determine that Himmelstoss is cruel because he does not give his troops any mercy and by doing so, has garnered their hatred of him. Machiavelli would determine Himmelstoss as cruel due to the lack of mercifulness he gives to his subordinates. When Himmelstoss found out that the character Tjaden wet his bed when he slept at night, instead of giving him a shake down or something similar, a more sinister plan formulated in his mind, He hunted up another piss a bed ... and quartered him with Tjaden. Himmelstoss put these two so that one occupied the upper and the other the lower bunk. The man underneath of course had a vile time. The next night they were changed over and the lower one put on top so that he could retaliate. (Remarque 46).Himmelstoss cruelty is highlighted masterfully here. Instead of simply yelling at Tjaden or making him scrub boots till his hands bled, he devised an atrocious way of punishment. Further adding to his sense of cruelty, Himmelstoss includes another soldier in an attempt to demoralize and humiliate both of them.Clemency, even in a small form, can have a big impact. Too much clemency, and the people run rampant. Too little, and there isn t a people to lead. Himmelstoss clearly leans more toward one side when he should be seeking a balance between the two, Therefore a prince, so long as he keeps his subjects united and loyal, ought not to mind the reproach of cruelty; because with a few examples he will be more merciful than those, who through too much mercy, allow disorders to arise... I agree with Achebe that people are similar in that they have fear, desires, and aspirations. Rav Shlomo Yitzchaki was born to Rabbi Yitzchak and his wife (not much is known about her) in 1040 in the town of Troyes, located in Northeastern France historically southeast of Paris and as the Capital of Champagne, where some say he received his early education. His father s distinguished family traced itself back to Rabbi Yochanan Hasandlar, a student of the tanna, a torah sage around the end of the second Jewish Temple, Rabbi Akiva ben Yosef, lived from about 50 C.E to about 132 C.E, and from there to King David, who was leader of the ancient Israelite kingdom as it retook its homeland. His mother was the sister of Rabbi Shimon Hazaken, the elder. With his wife, Rashi had three daughters but no sons, and their names were Yocheved, who married Rabbi Meir ben Shmuel (one of Rashi s greatest students), Miriam who married Yehuda be Nathan (also known as the Rivan, the completer of Rashi s commentary to the tractate of Makkot), and Rachel. In turn, their children the Rashbam, Rabbenu Tam etc. who became later known as the tosafist were practically commentators on Rashi comments. When it came to supporting his family, Rashi supported them through wine although it s unclear what he did in the process of it s creation, whether it was creating it or selling it. • 25. The Importance Of Obedience, And Purity Of Worship A promise kept, military advancement, faith, a land gift, courage, the importance of obedience, and purity of worship. These are just a few of the important themes identified in the book of Joshua. Joshua is the sixth book in the Greek and English Bible; and the first of the twelve historical books. In the Hebrew Scriptures, Joshua is listed as the first book in the former Prophets section . The book of Joshua is a history book, containing the account of God fulfilling His promise to Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Moses and the rest of the Israelites. Through this historical narrative we see a faithful God deliver on a promise made hundreds of years earlier, a new leader come into his own as he leads his people into Canaan and we come to understand the extreme importance of reading, meditating on and obeying the Word of God. In this book Joshua tells us how Israel went from a nomadic lifestyle to a nation at rest in a permanent land. It all starts off with God commissioning Joshua as the new leader of the Nation of Israel. Next, instead of seeing an unbroken string of military successes and conquests, we read about the high and low points of the nation s growing possession of Canaan . From a literary point of view the author of this book uses the narrative style. There is also evidence of installation genre, and phrase repetition. Verses 1 9 of chapter are the account of God commissioning Joshua as the new leader of Israel. The commissioning has two parts. First is the promises ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 26. The Soldier Of The Army The skills required to be an officer in the US army have changed dramatically over the course of the army s lifetime. The training, or lack of training, shaped the officers into what the army decided it needed at the time, while also shaping the officer s own combat experiences as they were shipped to their respective wars. These things created an atmosphere of leadership that were radically different from each iteration of the US army, producing different kinds of officers for each. The first thing that set apart each of these officers was the training they had as officers and soldiers before being shipped off into combat. The stories of each of the officers shows a progression of the idea of the professional soldier overtaking the idea of the citizen warrior that dominated the culture of the army during the earlier years of American history. This culture of the citizen warrior is easily seen during the Civil War and the training Rhodes recieved both as a soldier and an officer. The army seemed wholly unprofessional at the time as it seemed to rely on the grunts as much as the officers for direction. During Rhode s first few days in the army he was elected First Sergeant by the company he was serving with at the time. • 28. Cystochrome C Oxidase Lab Report Intro When first learning about cells, students are told the mitochondria is the powerhouse of the cell. While this is true, most of the energy made actually comes from the electron transport chain that occurs on the inner membrane of the mitochondria. A series of proteins are active in the electron transport chain, but the fourth one, cytochrome c oxidase, is the one that is important for our purposes. Cytochrome c oxidase is a large integral protein, that is made up of several subunits, some which provide the target of aspirin (Norman, C., et al.). The subunits together have a very important role that is universal though eukaryotic cells. Cytochrome c oxidase can reduce 250 molecules of O in a second. The energy released from the oxidation ... Once the true concentrations were known, the total protein in the samples could be calculated. The results of the calculations are found in Table 1. By taking the calculated total protein, and the average cytochrome c oxidase assay we are able to find the specific activity of cytochrome c. A negative value in the cytochrome c oxidase assay was preferred, as that indicated less color than the cytochrome c provided, and thus that cytochrome c oxidase was present to react. All negative numbers were converted to positive numbers, and as there was no logical way for a higher concentration of cytochrome c to occur, the samples that resulted in a positive result, were determined to be a failure to detect the presence of cytochrome c oxidase. Samples 1, 3, and 4 did not have any cytochrome c oxidase in them, and were therefore not capable of having a specific activity of cytochrome c ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

With this rebirth of traditional African culture, the number of African American artists rapidly increased. It became difficult for these artists to gain employment, even with the assistance of government work relief programs, such as the Works Progress Administration (WPA). Set up by President Roosevelt as part of his New Deal program, the WPA offered jobs to thousands of unemployed artists, in an attempt to boost the nation s morale, as well as stimulate the depressed economy. Despite its good intentions, the government program was unable to pay decent wages and failed to provide employment for nearly five million artists (American). In response to this failure, the Harlem Artist Guild, founded in 1928, aggressively began to work alongside the WPA to ensure the success of African American artists. Led by its first president, Aaron Douglas, the activist organization played an influential role in helping artists attain the recognition necessary to qualify them for the WPA work projects (Bearden 131). Finland is thought to have been settled soon after the Ice Age and first inhabited by the Sami people. By the 12th century, Finns speakers had pushed the Sami people out and Christian mercenaries were preparing to convert Finland. In 1157, as a result of a crusade led by Swedish King Eric IX, Sweden conquered Finland and as such, converted Finland to Christianity. However, by 1809, Sweden surrendered Finland to Russia. The Czar, Alexander I of Russia, set up Finland as a Grand Duchy, establishing himself as its monarch. In 1917, in the midst of the March Revolution in Russia, where Russians protested as a result of the effects of World War I, Finland took advantage of the time to declare its independence from Russia. In the epic poem Beowulf, the successful Danish warriors and their king, Hrothgar, are heroically saved by Beowulf, the strongest, bravest man across all seas from Grendel s twelve year massacre. In the novel Grendel, by John Gardner, the plot unfolds similarly; however, it is told through the perspective of Grendel, the antagonist in Beowulf. The significant difference in perspectives poses the complex question to readers asking, Who is the real monster? In the epic poem and novel, Hrothgar, the Danish King, is the true monster through his influence, corruption, and unmoral actions. Being the ultimate ruler, Hrothgar initiates his monstrous character by influencing his loyal warriors. Although some may argue that the Danes are evil, Hrothgar molds and motivates their actions as their respected king. Rising to power and fame, Hrothgar built Herot, a celebratory mead hall to distribute treasure and feast with his warriors. Through success in battles, Hrothgar, whose word was obeyed all over the world, rewarded his loyal Danes with his treasure full hands in Beowulf (6). The decision on the Mandate did not take into account the wishes of the people of Palestine, despite the Covenant s requirements that the wishes of these communities must be a principal consideration in the selection of the Mandatory . During the period of the Mandate, the Zionist Organization worked to secure the establishment of a Jewish national home in Palestine. The indigenous people of Palestine, whose forefathers had inhabited the land for virtually the two preceding millennia, felt this design to be a violation of their natural and inalienable rights. In literature, the correct term for a character that sets off or enhances another character by contrast is called a foil. Pairs of characters that are foils to each other have very opposing views and personalities, but their presence with each other illustrates the qualities in a better light. Because of the contrast in Obierika s traits, he is definitely a foil to Okonkwo because Okonkwo is very strong minded, dogmatic, and hot tempered. If something does not go his way, Okonkwo will do something very irrational about it. When Okonkwo asked his second wife where his third wife, Ojiugo, was he became angered because his second wife lied to him about Ojiugo s whereabouts. He walked back to his obi to await Ojiugo s return. And when she returned he beat her very heavily (Achebe 29). Okonkwo s rationale of beating his third wife was in very poor judgment because he beat her during the Week of Peace. The Week of Peace was a week among the tribes where there was supposed to be no violence. This shows that Okonkwo has a very short temper and he does not tolerate nearly as much as Obierika can tolerate. Not only does Okonkwo differ from Obierika in the fact of their personality traits, but Obierika is a foil to Okonkwo because of Okonkwo s hunger for power.
