The Role Of Inefficiency Of Medical Care
Discussion Case #1 Raymond, a 78 year old man living in a motel, is found by the housekeeper lying
on the floor of his room, semiconscious. The motel manager calls 911, and Raymond is taken to the
closest emergency room, where he lies on a gurney in the hallway for 6 hours before a physician
examines him. Because it is unclear what is wrong with him and he cannot speak coherently, the
physician admits him to the hospital for observation. Later, when it is determined that he had suffered
a stroke; he is discharged to an inpatient rehabilitation facility that has no knowledge of his medical
history including his current medications for hypertension and high cholesterol. He dies there several
weeks later. 1. Identify the source(s) of inefficiency of medical care. The first source of inefficiency in
this case is that the patient was admitted to observation. The patient would be on Medicare and if he is
admitted to observation, then to a rehabilitation center it will cost more. The patient should have been
admitted to the hospital first as an inpatient, preferably in the ICU, because the patient was unable to
communicate (Barry, 2012). When the condition of stroke was determined the patient needs to stay in
the ICU, until stable, before going to a rehabilitation center. Rehabilitation will not do any good until
the patient is well enough to be able to rehabilitate. If the patient is not stable enough, to be moved
then this would cause a readmission, which would cost more money.

13. XYZ Affair
President John Adams had sent several delegates, one of them being John Martial, to France to help
sort out the issues between France and the US, such as the United States not honoring the Franco
American Treaty, formed back during the American Revolution, when France had its revolution, by
meeting with minister Talleyrand of France. Three of Talleyrand s men met with the delegates and told
them Talleyrand refused to meet unless a large amount of money was payed. The delegates returned
home and informed President Adams, who was outraged. The name of the Affair comes from the
substituting of the three French men s names with X, Y, and Z in a Congress report.
This event was significant to the United States during this time because, instead of helping our
relations with France, like the US had hoped for after they accused us of allying with the British when
Jay s Treaty was formed, it only made things worse. The United States was enraged by France s
outrageous demands, and France was still angered by lack of promised US support during the French
Revolution.
14. Revolution of 1800
The Revolution of 1800, as it was called by Thomas Jefferson, was the election that took place for
presidency in 1800. In this election, John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, and Aaron Burr were all running
for president; Adams didn t stand a chance against the other two after his presidency, and was easily
defeated. Burr and Jefferson tied for votes and Alexander Hamilton, who, even

Satire In A Modest Proposal By Jonathan Swift
There s a Black Friday sale on babies this weekend; eat up! Satire can point out societal inadequacy
and ridicule political policies in a way that is humorous in its absurdity while masking its true intent.
In A Modest Proposal, Jonathan Swift uses exaggeration and irony to draw attention to the
meaningless lives of the Irish poor under English rule. Thus, giving his work a wider audience while
also serving as a furtherment of Swift s typical derisiveness. A Modest Proposal comments on the
harm caused by the Declaratory Act of 1720, an act that allowed Great Britain s parliament to legislate
over Ireland with no input from the Irish House of Lords, leaving Ireland in severe economic distress.
Swift contrasts his calm, yet harsh criticism of English politics and the rich upper class with his own
passionate beliefs. Swift s satiric pamphlet was not only effective at the time it was published but also
in modernity; it remains one of the most well known satiric works in literature today. One of the
reasons Swift s writing was so popular was because he wrote in a way people were familiar. A Modest
Proposal was written as a pamphlet with the same title common of pamphlets at the time (Williams
51). Before reading through Swift s proposal the work would seem to be ordinary and tired. Swift
keeps with the familiarity of the people in his style. Swift masks his satire with a style reminiscent of
metaphysical poetry, a style popular in the late 1600s. While A Modest Proposal undoubtedly is not a
poem, it mimics the main themes of metaphysical poetry. This style starts and remains a complex
work through its entirety, relying heavily on the use of paradox and violence. These cannot be
overlooked in Swift s piece; his major plot is killing and eating infants. What separates both
metaphysical poetry and Swift s work from other works is its argumentative stance. Most pamphlets
of the time would simply offer a humble solution while Swift fights not only with the audience but
with himself to embed his main purpose into the audience s brain. When reading metaphysical poetry,
the reader is trained to think thoroughly about what is offered in the piece and moreover, the author s
true intent. In keeping with this style, Swift

Psychoanalysis And Psychoanalysis Of Trauma
This chapter starts out about a young woman who was a prisoner from the middle east who stated, If I
talked about it, I would feel that it would happen again here. She was tortured both physically and
mentally. Through all she has been through she finds it very difficult to even think about
communicating to someone about it. It shows that their needs to be a sympathy towards the
occurrences of trauma. They live with the pain deep inside. They have a hard time erasing it and need
to learn to leave it in the past. They also do not believe they can get better. Ways to help these patients
is with psychodynamic psychotherapy and psychoanalysis as well as cognitive techniques.
Psychoanalytical focuses on the effects of trauma in relation to their personality and other dealings in
their life. Trauma is the crushing of the individuals self worth leaving them feeling helpless in a
terrible situation as said by Freud. Freud said that victims of trauma relive the situations they
encountered in their mind. Post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) main defense mechanism and coping
method is dissociation. The symptoms of this disorder are recurrent dreams and intrusions of
memories. The victim tries to avoid the memories and implications of their trauma to treat the victim
must retell and experience the trauma but in a safe controlled space. Effects from trauma can last for
many, many years. Those who suffer may not have the strength to recover. The torturer is making the
victim feel helpless. They prey on their fears. The victim feels they have no safe place and they may
become submissive to their torturer. They are always in fear of when their death will occur. They lose
their sense of safety and happy memories. It is replaced by fear, pain, and depression. During torture
the victim may also feel guilty or bad about themselves since they may have given information that
would cause pain and suffering to someone else. The fear for their own life makes it hard to decide
what to do in a torture situation. There are different effects of torture on the victims personality and
their life according to the Swiss Psychoanalyst Amati. One, the relation to the body is destroyed. They
endure tremendous pain, stress and near

Case Study: Penelope s Personal Pocket Phones
Group 2
Brian Erber, Jaime Carreno, Wenliang Zhang, Xue Liu
(Introduction) Background info about the project.
In order to evaluate the NPV of the first generation phone (project) ignoring the possibility of
investing in the second generation phone (project), we projected the free cash flows (FCF) of the first
generation phone through 2001 to 2006. The total FCF was calculated as EBIT plus deprecation and
subtract any capital expenditures along with change in net working capital. With risk free rate of 10%,
comparable firms beta of 1.2, and market premium of 4%, the appropriate discount rate for the project
was 14.8% using CAPM. Sum ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The third scenario was ignoring the option to invest in the second generation project and selling the
equipment in year 2. We evaluated this option as a put option. First, we calculated the probabilities for
going up and down based on the assumption of a risk neutral word. As a result, the probability of
going upward is calculated as 0.3375 and downward probability is 0.6625. In order to determine the
present value of all the sequence cash flow at the end of year 2, we calculated the upside change rate
and downside change rate as 64.87% and 39.35%, respectfully. The next step is to analyze the option
value by using the Binomial Tree method. In order to determine the present value of all the
subsequence cash flow at the end of year 2, we calculated the cash flow at each node on the tree, until
2006. We discounted all the cash flow at the risk free rate at 10%. The End of Year NPV of all the
subsequence cash flow at Year 2 is calculated as $7,571,752, and the selling price of the equipment at
end of 2 is $4,000,000, which is the salvage value. We found the NPV of selling the machine at end of
Year 2 to be $2,951,861 as of Year 0, which is negative. The APV of the project after adding the
option turned out to be $6,321,932. This negative APV suggest that the

Andragogy In The Military Essay
Andragogy in the Military Andragogy is the study of the art and science of how adults learn
(Reischmann, 2000). The military is comprised of adults that must be constantly trained to the highest
of proficiencies in combat and non combat supporting roles. In the military, the personnel responsible
for conducting training are noncommissioned officers, which are soldiers between the ranks of
corporal and sergeant major. Noncommissioned officers must know their soldiers and be able to train
them to the high levels of efficiency required to successfully conduct their missions.
Noncommissioned officers must practice and use andragogy regularly to continue training junior
soldiers. There are four definitions of the term adult: biological, legal, social, and psychological. The
biological definition of an adult is the age in which people can reproduce. The legal definition of an
adult is when a person is able to vote, get a driver s license, marry without consent, etc. The social
definition of an adult is the age at which people start performing adult roles in society, such as a full
time worker, spouse, parent, or voting citizen. The psychological definition, the most obscure
definition, is when a person arrives at a self concept and become responsible for their life (Knowles,
Holton Swanson, 2012). The ages in which one could be considered an adult is very broad with these
definitions; however, every soldier meets at least three of the four definitions. The first

Connor Mcdavid Character
When Connor McDavid met with the media at the Bell Centre before Sunday afternoon s game
against the Canadiens, he looked like your typical, 20 year old Canadian kid.
A little awkward physically as he continues to grow into his body at 6 foot 1 and 190 pounds, soft
spoken and battling a bit of acne. But there s nothing typical about McDavid once he hits the ice.
The young Edmonton captain didn t score a goal as the Oilers beat the Canadiens 1 0 in a shootout,
but he was named the first star and was exciting to watch every time he hit the ice, logging 25:07. He
had a game high six shots on goal and drew three penalties with his blazing speed.
You could sell tickets just to watch McDavid skate by himself. It s a thing of beauty with his effortless

grace and respect and love of the game, and it s great to see a young guy like him in his 20s really
enjoy and love coming to the rink and competing every day to be the best player he can be. As an
older guy now, it s something that you can feed off of and I think that s what s made him a great leader
and a good captain so far.
So, what did McDavid do on his Saturday night in Montreal?
Not too much ... just kind of hung out, he said. It s definitely a fun city and a good place to be at, but
you got to keep it pretty serious.
McDavid still has close friends back home in Richmond Hill, Ont., who just go to school and do
normal teenage things. They must be living vicariously through their superstar friend, no?
I think it s kind of the other way around, McDavid said. I kind of live through them on Saturday nights
when you re in bed by 9. You wake up and hear the stories and I think they definitely follow what I m
doing and stuff like that. But they re all having a good time and doing their thing.
So is McDavid. He s just not your typical

Traditional Research Methods Of Quantitative And...
Traditional research methods consist of implementing quantitative and qualitative research.
Quantitative research utilizes statistical analysis by breaking down components of observation that are
compared to other elements (Bergman, M. M., 2008). Qualitative research focuses on investigating the
participant s range of behavior, usually with small groups, which results in descriptive analysis
(Bergman M. M., 2008).
Mixed method research involves using Qualitative research and Quantitative research designs. The
advantage of using both is to utilize the strength of each type in order to produce an outcome that is
most beneficial to the area of study (Bergman, M. M., 2008). The challenge with mixed method
research in integrating the results of both Qualitative and Quantitative results in order to present
unbiased scientific results that are worthy of discussion (Bergman, M. M., 2008).
Action research is a practical or real world approach to a profession inquiry in a social setting.
Educational professionals may use this approach to evaluate an existing teaching method or review a
new method that may be considered for use in the classroom. Action research can be implemented
using mixed methods and conducted my an individual or in collaboration with other professionals.
Inclusive Physical Education embraces the needs of students with physical impairments and includes
them in the physical education curriculum (Goodwin, 2000). The research on students with physical

How Does Jane Tompkins Conflict With The American Indians
In the document, quot;Indians: Textualism, Morality, and The Problem of History, quot; Jane
Tompkins examines the conflicts between the English settlers and the American Indians. After
examining several primary sources, Tompkins found that different history books have different
perspectives. It wasn t that the history books took different angles that was troubling, but the
viewpoints contradicted one another. People who experience the same event told it through their
reality. This becomes a problem when a person who didn t experience the effect wants to know what
happened. Tompkins said, quot; The problem id that if all accounts of events are determined through
and through by the observer s frame of reference, that one will never know, ... Show more content on

Tompkins claims this to be irrelevant, saying his viewpoint was biased. Moving on to another
contradictory perspective, Tompkins examines the perspective of Francis Jenning s The Invasion of
America written in the late sixties. Jennings saw the European settlers to brutal animals,
quot;the early settlers lied to the Indians, stole form them, murdered them, scalped them, captured
them, tortured them, raped them, soled the into slavery, confiscated their land, destroyed their crops,
burned their homes, scattered their possessions, gave them alcohol, undermined their systems of
belief, and infected them with diseases that wiped out ninety percent of their numbers within the first
hundred years after contact. quot; (206)
Examining further Tompkins saw another change of perspectives in the seventies, caused by the
American Indian Movement. Calvin Martin, author of Keepers of the Game saw the European
settlement as an invasion of the Indian s spiritual relationship with the animals. Because of fur trade
with the Europeans, the Indian s discontinued their spiritual ritual of worshipping the animal s carcass.
When disease started spreading among the Indians, brought over by the Europeans, they thought it
was because the spirits were angry with them. Martin refers to this time as a quot;holy war. quot; The
pattern of contradictions continued with a series of essays called Indians, Animals, and the Fur Trade

Training As A Skilled Baseball Player
Practice makes perfect, however, there are skills which require intensive training in order to be a
skilled baseball player. Practice makes perfect means the more you do something, the better you will
become at it. There are three essential techniques of training to develop my skills as a baseball player:
hitting a baseball, catching a fly ball, and running the bases. When I began to play little league
baseball at the age of nine, everything was tough. It took me three years to master these skills.
Perfection is almost impossible to accomplish, but perfection is impossible without practice. In my
first year, my hitting was terrible and I had only one hit in twenty games. During the off season,
however, I took a lot of time to practice on hitting on the baseball field, at the batting cage, and with a
batting tee with my head coach. My head coach wanted me to ... Show more content on

My head coach had me focus on my third base coach s signal which would let me know whether to

coach, which limited from the scoring opportunity and winning the games. Once I figured out how to
pay attention to my third base coach s signal, our team ended up winning a lot of games.
It would be amazing if I was able to master each skill overnight. However, in baseball, there are so
many skills to make perfect that would be nearly impossible. If I keep on practicing my skills, I could
be a skilled baseball player from going through the various training. Practice might not make it
perfect, but it definitely helps me becoming a better baseball player. Being a skilled player, it does not
make me perfect but it does help me developing the character, skill, team player and self discipline.
This type of intensive training will boost my self esteem into being capable to be a skilled baseball

Septic Tank Analysis
How To Care For Your Septic Tank So You Avoid Problems With Clogs And The Need For Repairs
If you take proper care of your septic tank, you can prevent unnecessary damage and the need for
repairs. You ll still need to pump the tank occasionally, but proper care reduces the risk of clogs and
damage to the drainfield. Fortunately, taking care of a septic tank is easy. Below are some guidelines
to keep in mind.
Rethink Using a Garbage Disposal
If you use a garbage disposal on a daily basis, you send an excessive amount of solid waste into the
septic tank. This waste has to be broken down by the bacteria in the tank to form the sludge layer on
the bottom. While this might not be necessarily harmful, it does make your tank fill up faster than ...

Also, think twice about using chemical drain cleaners. Rely on a plunger or snake when you have
clogs. Avoid throwing away prescription drugs by flushing them down the toilet. Antibiotics could
affect the bacteria in the tank.
Be Careful About What Goes In the Toilet Too
Also, your septic system will work more efficiently if you avoid putting anything down the toilet
except for toilet paper made to dissolve quickly. Some strong and soft brands of toilet paper, facial
tissues, and paper towels are too tough to break apart quickly in the septic tank. This leads to clogging
and premature filling of the tank.
Don t send wet wipes down the toilet, even if the label says they are flushable. They don t dissolve
very fast and they will just build up in the tank. Other items you don t want to flush include cigarette
butts, cotton swabs, condoms, dental floss, and kitty litter.
The above guidelines will help keep your septic system in good shape, but the most important thing
you can do for your septic tank is to have it inspected and cleaned out regularly. Don t let sewage back
up into your house or leak into the drainfield through neglect or you may face expensive repairs. Call
the experts at Mountain Valley Pumping when you need your septic tank inspected, repaired, or

Examples of Machiavellian Leaders
Arguably, the most Machiavellian leader to ever exist would be Joseph Stalin. He abided by three
major Machiavellian methods that were stated in the Prince: the ends justifies the means, crush any
opposition, and displaying a false character. Stalin had a plan for Russia and did everything in his
power to achieve that plan. He wanted to transform Russia into a industrial superpower, a military
superpower, and a political superpower. To achieve his goals he committed many horrible crimes
against humanity. To be more specific, Stalin killed more than sixty million people during his reign.
He was a selfish cold blooded, heart less, and evil leader; human life was nothing to him. What caused
him to develop such evil traits? It all started ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This strategy disposed Stalin of any political opposition, which helped him sustain his power. Another
major method that Stalin used to maintain his power was the use of propaganda to portray himself as a
benevolent father figure. While at the same time he was committing mass murder. In Ukraine alone he
killed ten million people in only two years! Many historians agree that Stalin killed over sixty million
people. Why did he kill so much people? This can be traced back to Machiavelli s The Prince. As
discussed before, The Prince teaches that a ruler should have the fear of the people. Stalin slaughtered
so many people to prevent any opposition to his reign. He eliminated all the strong people, both the
intellectual and physical; therefore the few left would be too afraid and too weak, physically and
mentally, to resist. Stalin did exactly what Machiavelli stated in the Prince, which was also stated
above, And here it has to be noted that men must be either pampered or crushed, because they can get
revenge fore small injuries but not fore grievous ones. Stalin stated Death is the solution to all
problems. No man no problem. , Gratitude is a sickness suffered by dogs. , and I trust no one, not even
myself. As it can be clearly seen, Joseph Stalin epitomises most of Machiavelli s beliefs that are stated
in The Prince. Therefore, Stalin can be consider Machiavelli s ideal prince. Finally, the last example of

The Scarcity Of Food Scarcity
During the late 1700s, food scarcity was not an issue, for the population was not as large as today,
which is over seven billion people. I would not be worrying about a food crisis or starvation unless a
man like Thomas Malthus came along and spread rumors that it could happen, especially if it is in our
future. Since people were first exposed to that idea during Malthus time, it is reasonable why people
would stress about it instantly. Nobody knows when food scarcity could happen. All they know is that
it is eminent with regards to Malthus claims that the population is growing rapidly, and food
production will reach its peak. It takes just one food crisis event to confirm to the public that Malthus
prediction was true, and that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These are issues that need to be considered by farmers, scientists, and agricultural institutions. The
Earth s land is a precious resource, because it sustains the food we need to live. Without land, there is
no place to grow food, and without food, human survival is unlikely. Taking care of the land is a
lifetime job, and all involved in agriculture need to do their job to sustain the resource and spread the
message to future generations. Doing so will allow the land to continue flourishing, thus maintain the
food supply. An overgrowing population, food scarcity, and land maintenance are some of the
problems discussed in food politics, but another issue that is relevant today is high international food
prices. After the year 2000, several economic crisis took place worldwide, leading countries to close
or implement higher taxes on exported food. As a result, nations secured their domestic markets, but
international food prices rose shortly. To deal with the dilemma, country leaders should consult with
each about ways to manage the market during financial crisis. Some countries rely on exported food to
sustain their livestock and population, so an increase in food prices could force dependent nations to
buy less food and sacrifice some of their livestock, or worse, their people. The reality is that people
are already pushed toward sacrifice. Almost a billion people worldwide are malnourished and close to
death. No one

Impact Of Online Reservation And E Commerce On The Air...
This case study analyzes the impact of online reservation and e commerce in the Air Travel industry. It
focuses mainly on the United States, and displays the various evolutions that will lead an industry that
was mainly ruled by very knowledgeable people and hardly accessible to the masses to becoming an
open market where most, if not all of the information concerning the prices and services offered are
transparently displayed. This case depicts the reason behind the long lasting success of the SABRE
system. The main reason being that SABRE is an evolving set of systems that altogether are able to
create a competitive advantage for American Airlines. The airline company was able to keep this
competitive advantage for many decades, only because of their continual technical and product
innovation. The SABRE system embodies the changes that the travel agent industry has suffered in the
past. As the case points out: continual evolution itself is not the success factor, but the combination of
evolution with opportunistic exploitation of the opportunities offered by the industry environment
might be the key to it. At first, airlines were offering their services to travel agents via some
reservation systems that were complicated to understand and utilize. This led the industry to be very
segmented because the travel agents would basically become specialized in one or the other airlines
system, thus making their life more complicated and their profit lower. On top of that,

Great Was Ever Achieved Without Synonym, By Ralph Waldo...

The Four Stages In Ovid s Metamorphoses
Pythagoras was a Greek philosopher born in 570 B.C.E. In Ovid s the Metamorphoses, Pythagoras
discusses a variety of beliefs including the four ages of man, autogenesis, and vegetarianism.
The four stages of man as described by Pythagoras states, that the year displays four aspects, passing
through them, in a semblance of our life. Each season represents a different aspect of man. Spring is a
delicate time of year full of new beginnings and hope. Summer is described as powerful, rich, and
expansive. Fall is the time between youth and age. Pythagoras describes winter as hair turning white.

Humans do defy this stereotype due to technology, since there is no animal predator to us. However I

The Physics Of An Experiment
In 1964, John Bell set out to test the arguments originally described in the EPR paper and later more
eloquently describe by David Bohm. In the paper by Bohm, he shows how one could conceive of an
experiment to mirror the conceptual situation put forth in the EPR paper, by examining the
dissociation of a diatomic molecule whose total spin angular momentum is zero. For example, the
hydrogen molecule into two hydrogen atoms. In the experiment, the hydrogen atoms would separate
after interaction, in different free directions. It is here that an experimenter would measure the spin
components whose values are anti correlated after dissociation. If we define our axis of measuring as
the one at right angles to the particles flight, then we can have a consistent measurement. If the
measure of hydrogen atom one yields spin up, measurement along the same axis for the other atom
would yield spin down, to be consistent with total spin equal to zero. This is an interesting experiment
because of the incompatibility of spin components makes it analogous to position and momentum
conjugates. Bohm eventually went on to publish a more sophisticated paper with plausible
instrumentation to test his theories with Yakir Aharonov in 1957. A thought experiment that is
discusses the ideas of Bell s inequalities are as follows. Consider two observers that are initially
together and agree that they will be given red or green balls at regular intervals, from this they

A Research Study On The Foster Care
Abstract
This research study will examine whether or not the foster care age out transition process, including
the availability of specific education programs (i.e. banking, home building and economics, college
prep) as well as the availability of resources provided to foster children prior to aging out of the foster
care system, has a direct impact on a perceived successful or non successful transition to independent
living. This research will gather information from three specific groups of people; current licensed
foster parents, foster care social workers and former foster children that have aged out of the foster
care system within the last two years. This study will be utilizing the nonprobability method of
purposive sampling as all research participants will be selected on the basis of their participation with
the foster care system in three different specific roles. This research will study the perceptions of
whether or not there are adequate programs designed and utilized for the purpose of successful
transition. This information will be gathered by three separate questionnaires specifically designed to
address each role of the foster care study. The information will be utilized for the intent of evaluating
the age out process of foster care for minors transitioning into adults.

organization, but it also emphasis on the various practical ideas that can be implemented in an
organization to achieve success. Some of the managerial traits that I was able to find in this book are
as follows:
Golden Circle Concept: This concept consists of three factors that help to motivate people. Great
leaders always try to motivate people, inspire them and make them do the right things. Golden Circle
Concept is inspired by Golden ratio which is a mathematical ratio that had caught eye of various
influential people such as artists, mathematician and so on (Sinek, 2009, p. 41). This concept focuses
on three factors that are used by the leaders such as What, How and Why. For Instance, every
company that exists knows what they are doing, some know how they are doing and very few can
explain why they are doing the things. Leaders who do things better of others tries to start with why
and communicate precisely the every detail (Leadership Excellence Essentials, 2009).
Don t neglect Why: Why is one of the important factor that helps leaders a lot to achieve success. As, I
was reading this book I came to realize that actually everything starts with Why. Those who focuses
on all the problems with Why is able to know the roots of the problem and solve it, but ignoring the
problems starting with Why or anything associated with Why can be a big mistake made by a

Grupo Damm Final Strategic Recommendation
Introduction and Summary of Recommendation Grupo Damm, one of the largest beer brewers in
Spain, is a strong company in a weak home market. Although many opportunities exist for expansion,
the strongest plan for the company to embark on is an aggressive expansion of its business in the
United States. This project will give Damm access to a large consumer base with minimal risk due to
previous conservative investments in the region.
Situation Analysis Grupo Damm s current situation is the third largest beer company in Spain. It is a
large player in a market dominated by two other beer ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Basis for Recommendation 1. The Spanish beer market is contracting, and trying to win a larger piece
of a smaller pie will prove very costly (Appendix 2). As the Spanish recession continues, revenue will
decline as less beer is consumed and margins will shrink as consumers buy beer in supermarkets,
significantly constraining Damm s profits (Appendix 3). 2. Damm has already entered the U.S. market
via a 17% acquisition of U.S. Beverage, a specialty distributor that works mainly with premium
imports (Peet). U.S. Beverage has had a successful track record with imports in the past, and this
partnership will allow Grupo Damm to circumvent the process of having to find a reliable importer
and distributor. 3. The U.S. beer market has been growing, and more specifically, the imported
premium beer segment has been growing within the overall market (Appendix 4). Although other
markets have been shown to be growing at a higher rate (Group 6, Slide 5), the U.S. market is several
times larger at over 208 million barrels sold per year (Jones).
Financial Impact of the Recommendation Under a conservative analysis of the project, an expansion
plan in America will have a net present value of over $350 million for Grupo Damm (Appendix 5).
This project requires minimal capital expenditures because U.S. Beverage has already put much of the
groundwork in place. The main expenses Grupo Damm will face under

Cultural Differences Between Chinese Culture And Western...
We live in a world that changes every day. The sapling grows into a towering tree. The thick trunk is
cut off. The children are all grown up or are starting puberty. Parents are getting old. Children are
raised or nurtured by parents. And we have the responsibility to support our family. Guns aren t legal.
The marijuana becoming legal. Most of these changes are reasonable or natural changes. The rest of
the changes might be totally adverse, which reminds me to rethink about which took place before.
Sometimes these changes occur from a word or a scene.
Before I went abroad to study in the US, I hardly knew about American culture. All of me though of
culture inheres in Chinese culture. I never thought there s such a large cultural difference between
Chinese culture and Western culture. It did not occur to me to consider why it happens and what I
could learn from it. It s my first year here in America and I choose to live in home stay instead of
living on campus. Both of my home stay family are so young as 30 years old. While I was living with
that home stay, I have understanding about cultural differences between China to America deeply. One
day my home grandmother came home. She said she wanted to live with my home stay mother
because of some physical issues. Her face showed that she was so eager to get a positive answer. But
my home stay mother said no to her. The expression on her face was so decisive and resolute that I
kind of hated her on it. I was so confused

Dickinson s I dreaded that first robin so Essay
Dickinson s poetry has been interpreted a number of different ways. To some she may come across
suicidal, to others depressed, or even philosophical to a number of readers. In her poem number 347
her depression and feelings of inadequacy are clear. In this poem Dickinson is a diva and is like any
other person, scared of change; feelings that people typically get over quickly. Dickinson is being
drama queen by explaining and lingering upon her depression and feelings of inadequacy by
comparing herself unreasonably to and transcending the beautiful structures involved with spring
through her uses of allusion, symbolism, and personification. Dickinson shows how she is being a

The grass is given the human characteristics of height and growth. She gives the grass these qualities
in order to make it seem like the grass is guarding her from everything else in the world. Dickinson
feels so inadequate that she must hide behind a sizable wall of grass in order that the rest of the
structures associated with spring would not come and see her. She assumes that the bees, flowers and
birds are all too beautiful to be associated with her and so she must remain incognito and enshrouded
by the grass. Her feelings are unreasonable as the structures that are all associated with spring are
some of the most beautiful in nature, therefore her comparisons and attempts to transcend the beauty
involved with nature is illogical. Dickinson tries to transcend and compare herself to the nature around
her but it is not a reasonable structure to transcend and so she feels inadequate and decides to remain
clandestine behind a wall of grass. Dickinson also uses the symbolism of spring to show her
unreasonable feelings of inadequacy by comparing herself to and attempting to transcend it. Spring is
typically seen as a time of renewal and renaissance because it is the avenue to summer where nature is
full of life and growing after the winter. Thus spring symbolizes new birth and beauty. Dickinson feels
that she cannot face spring because it is too beautiful and fruitful a season for her. Compared to the
season of spring and all it entails she feels unattractive and

Minimum Benefits Of Minimum Wage
Minimum wage is described as the minimum amount of remuneration that an employer is required to
pay wage earners for the work/services performed during a given tenure, which cannot be reduced by
collective agreement or an individual contract . Minimum wage can be established by statute,
competent decision authority, a wage board, a wage council, or by industrial or labour courts.
The significance of minimum wage is to shield workers against disproportionately low pay. They help
safeguard an equitable and just share of the fruits of progress to all, and a minimum living wage to all
who are employed and in need of such protection. Minimum wage can also be a part of a policy to
overcome poverty and reduce inequality, including those between ... Show more content on

This potential loss decreases both firms surplus and workers surplus. The increase in job search will
waste resources and time which contributes to the inefficiency of minimum wage.
Dead weight loss highlights the loss in possible employment, which could have been achieved by
labour market approaching equilibrium.
In both cases of minimum wage, there is an overall increase in labour supply and an overall reduction
in demand of labour. Hence, implementing or increasing minimum wage results in loss of jobs
theoretically. However, it also relies on the country s economic activity which may or may not result
in loss of jobs. Additionally, case 2 reflects the scenario wherein the government delivers
unemployment benefits to its unemployed citizens. In this case the dead weight loss is catered by the
government which in return puts a great deal of financial burden on the government.
Evaluating the Pros Cons of different essential elements associated with Minimum Wage:
Pros:
General population
Improved minimum living standards It facilitates the lowest paid strata of the society to desire for a
better standard of living.
Incentive to work It encourages unemployed population to find job, due of higher returns for their
labour.
Government
Decreases poverty It increases the income of the lowest paid in the society and avails them to increase
their income level.
Reduces Income inequality It aids in better distribution of income by compelling businesses to

Environmental Concerns And Climate Change
Proposed Research
Environmental concerns and climate change are influencing and shaping the future of the power
industry. As a result, the electricity required to meet the growing demand is mainly generated from
renewable energy resources, and this trend is expected to continue in the next decades [1]. Hydro and
wind are major renewable energy resources and are free of greenhouse gas emissions [2]. This makes
them valuable environmentally sustainable and economic resources for power generation around the
world. A hydro wind hybrid power system is an excellent combination for improved reliability, where
the resources abound [3]. In Newfoundland and Labrador, there is enormous potential for hydro and
wind renewable energy resources, with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This condition imposes unique challenges on the planning and operation of a hydro wind integrated
power system in a reliable manner [8]. Previous studies on wind penetration issues and solutions
found that the limiting factors of wind integration include penetration level, forecasting reliability,
geographic diversity, hydro generation flexibility and control of the overall system [6]. Control is a
key enabling factor for the deployment of renewable energy systems [9]. Control techniques such as
linear and dynamic programming, genetic algorithms, and neural networks, proposed by past research,
for the control and economic dispatch of renewable energy systems, have not been acknowledged to
be error free [3]. Two major flaws identified in existing techniques include the lack of ease of use, and
adaptability to new situations and evolving regulations [3]. These flaws pose major operational
challenges to utilities and thus, make control technologies optimization an imperative research
endeavor.
In 1998, the North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) Policy 1 Generation Control

The Importance Of Sleep Deprivation
The average amount of sleep obtained by high school students per night is classified as sleep
deprivation, which negatively cognitive functions including: mood/emotion regulation, verbal, visual,
and auditory processing, concentration/attention, and memory. The focus of this paper is sleep
deprivation. Concepts necessary to understanding sleep and sleep deprivation are sleep control
mechanisms, stages of sleep, and the different types of sleep deprivation. There are two biological
mechanisms in the body that regulate sleep. Both processes interact and balance one another, and
together are known as the two process model of sleep wake regulation. These two sleep controlling
mechanisms consist of: circadian rhythm, which is also referred to as process C, and sleep wake
homeostasis, called process S. Circadian rhythm is the regulation of the internal processes and levels
of alertness in the body controlled by the hypothalamus. The two parts to circadian rhythm include the
circadian drive for arousal, and the circadian alerting system. The circadian drive for arousal is the
tendency towards wakefulness, and arousal and alertness generated by alerting pulses of the circadian
alerting system. The circadian alerting system is an alerting pulse sent out by the suprachiasmatic
nucleus throughout the day, which counteracts increasing homeostatic sleep pressure and creates the
circadian drive for arousal. The circadian rhythm is governed by one s biological clock , which is also

The Four Styles Of Learning By Honey And Mumford
Learning is the art of gaining skills, preference, information, ethics, behavior and can engage one in
grasping different kind of information. There are many styles of learning, as we being college students
we can have many learning styles. According to Honey and Mumford there are four major styles of
learning as follows Activists, Reflectors, Theorists and Pragmatists.
Activists are the people who a re risk takers and they like experimenting new things and doing the
work based on trial and error method. For instance when a student learns a new chemical formula in a
chemistry class, he would be more enthusiastic to do the experiment at home and see what the result
is. He would take the risk to do the experiment at home irrespective of what the result of it was to be
due to curiosity, and the will to understand further.

Aristophanes Frogs, tells the story of the God Dionysus who, distressed of the current state of Athens
tragedians, travels to Hades with his slave Xanthias to bring Euripides back from the dead. Themes
such as the decline of Athens, ambition and identity are explored through Aristophanes Frogs.
The prologue, is all that precedes the entry of the Chorus (Aristotle, Poetics, Section 1452b). This is

Growing a Garden in Death of a Salesman
Growing a Garden
In Death of a Salesman, Arthur Miller uses motifs and symbols to express some of the problems of the
main character, Willy. Miller motivates Willy to start a garden in the backyard of his apartment, even
though the garden won t grow. This showed Willy to be the type who does not accept defeat, as he
believes he can grow a garden, but to the reader, it s obvious that he can t. Although filled with the
desire to grow a garden in order to start anew, Willy is unable to do so due to his apartment and his
thoughts. To start off, Willy s inability to grow a garden is majorly due to the environment his
apartment is placed in. In this story, the apartment is a tool of symbolism used to develop the idea of
the modern world. The apartment that blocks the sun into his backyard limits Willy s ability to grow a
garden. This modern society shadows over his house, keeping the sun away, also keeping him in the
past. This leads to the way the modern world is run, and because it is different than what Willy can
handle, he cannot adapt to modern society. The modern world restricts Willy from starting anew, but
the irony being that not only does Willy not have the money to move on from his house and into a
place where he could grow a garden, he simply doesn t want to. He wishes to stay, but needs money to
pay off the house. His lack of money is expressed as Linda mentions for him not to forget to ask for a
little advance (53). What Linda is referring to is that Willy

The Panama Canal
Introduction
The Panama Canal has become famous all over the world for being one of the most successful canals
ever built, however, when it was first built many people thought that it was a mistake. During the
building of the canal, there were many problems and scandals that had to be taken care of before the
canal was up and running. Despite the problems during the construction of the canal, after
construction the canal greatly aided the economic growth of the United States in the early twentieth
century. In spite of the success of the canal and the seemingly positive impacts it had on the growth
and development of the U.S., some historians still believe that the construction of the Panama Canal
was not a good economic decision for the United States to make. The Panama Canal had a positive
effect on the U.S. economy because of the time saved by traveling through the canal, the money saved
from building the canal, and the growth of the U.S. economy as a whole as a result of the construction
of the canal.
Construction of the canal
Leaders in both Central America and the U.S supported the building of the canal. Both the Nicaraguan
and Costa Rican presidents were happy with the building of the Panama Canal. These leaders thought
that the canal would help bring economic prosperity to Central America, as well as the United States.
This helped the U.S. get approval from most of Central America to start the construction of the canal.

The Importance Of Native American Culture, And African...
Food provides a way to establish, transact, reflect and fulfill our cultural identities. It is a way to
represent yourself. The way we go about making, serving, and eating food distinguishes us from other
people and gives the observer an insight into our heritage. In the American south, the combination of
the Native American, European, and African food cultures contributed to the development of what is
considered America s primary Cuisine, southern food. Before the Europeans even came to New
World, the native indigenous people were hunting, gathering, and cultivating land. When slaves were
brought to the New World, they were the ones that taught the Africans the concept of agriculture. In
the article Influence, Sources, and African Diaspora Foodways, Frederick Opie says, Native
Americans taught Africans different ways to farm, including the gastronomical trinity of beans, corn,
and squash. If a slave owner allowed their slaves to have a garden, the slaves would grow their own
crops. Even though their meals were mostly based off of their rations for the day, having a garden and
crops allowed them to have some leeway as to what they wanted to cook. This is significant because
everything was dictated for them and being able to personally choose how to create their meal was
liberating. Africans would not have been able to create new recipes and establish new techniques of
cooking if it hadn t been for the Native Americans who helped them adjust in the first place. Without

Immanuel Kant Deontology
Deontology
The decisions of deontology may be appropriate for an individual but does not necessarily produce a
good outcome for society. Deontology (also known as nonconsequential), by contrast, is dependent on
moral laws, duties, rules and intuitions and centers on the principles of 18th century philosopher
Immanuel Kant. These moral laws and duties declare that actions such as lying, murdering and
breaking promises are fundamentally wrong and we have no duty to partake in these actions. (CRI)
This moral theory stems from the Greek works deon and logos , which mean the study of duty.
Deontology states that an action s morality holds great value, and therefore the result of a wrong
action does not make it s outcome ethical. In other words,

Corporal Punishment with Respect to the Private and Public...
1 Introduction
Corporal punishment is the unlawful intentional act of causing harm by physically inflicting
punishment on the body of an offender or severely criticising the offender. There is a distinction in
common law between corporal punishment in the public sphere and in the private sphere.
Corporal punishment on children in the private sphere is administered by parents. It is legally accepted
in South Africa, provided that the requirements are met.
The public sphere s position is much different in the sense that the government along with all schools
have no authority to physically discipline school children anymore. Authority to exercise corporal

Rex v Janke Janke ( Janke ) clarifies the rights parents have when corporally punishing their children
with the intention of teaching them a valuable lesson. The requirements for this defence are for it to be
moderate and reasonable. The reasonable requirement refers to the child having to wrongfully do
something or threaten to do so. The moderate requirement states that the punishment must be in
proportion to the age, build, health and gender of the child. Corporal punishment by parental authority
can only succeed as a defence if it meets these requirements, as well as having the intention to
discipline or educate the child.
3 1 Arguments against parent s right of chastisement
The harm inflicted on a child when punishing him/her, violates the human rights of the child, which
states that every child should be protected from abuse or degradation in section 28(d) of the
Constitution. Another point of inconsistency the legalisation of corporal punishment in the private
sphere, is set out in section 39(3) of the Constitution that states: The Bill of rights does not deny the
existence of any other rights or freedoms that are recognised or conferred by common law, customary
law or legislation, to the extent that they are consistent with the Bill . The current position of the
private sphere is not in correspondence with the public sphere, even though they both deal with
corporal punishment. Confusion could be raised as

In every walk with nature one receives far more than one seeks. The Samurai s Garden is a book that
encompasses the beauty and importance of the natural world through many individuals experiences.
Tsukiyama expresses the belief that humans need help from an outside force, so that they can be
relieved from their grief and misery. In the novel, The Samurai s Garden, Gail Tsukiyama conveys the
theme that in order to heal, people need nature; she accomplishes this through her use of Sachi, Matsu,
and Stephen. Sachi is one of the most compassionate, yet strong characters in the novel. Throughout
her life she has endured shame, loss of loved ones, and internal pain, but everyday she chooses reality
and exists among all this turmoil. However, her pain is alleviated because of the garden she so
tenderly cares for. This small piece of nature gives her the strength to go on and slowly heals her from
the burdening sorrows she carries around. Tsukiyama states, I could see in her face, what I had seen a

governing authority. 2 The government of the Articles was a union of states rather than also of people.
The result was a weak national government, since its strength depended entirely of the states
willingness to cooperate (p 61). If the states refused to pay the national government could not do
anything to get the money. The final result of non payment from the states was a weaker national
defense. The states wanted to retain their sovereignty and argued that the national government would
not be able serve the people as well as the union of states. Under the new governing system known as
federalism the state government would have the responsibilities of the chartering of local
governments, education, public safety, registration and voting, intrastate commerce.
In 1787 a new form of government was introduced at the Philadelphia convention, which changed the
power between national and state governments. 3 The Philadelphia convention thereby devised a
governing system that came to be known as federalism. Federalism is the division of sovereignty, or
ultimate governing authority between a national government and regional (that is, state) governments.
Each directly governs the people and derives it powers

My Reflection Of Leadership And Leadership
As I reflect on what I ve learned this semester and what I ve learned about myself and academically I
m pleasantly surprised. I had moments this semester when I thought, I m not going to make it. I did,
thank god, but I m now in the middle of finals week looking back and pondering who I am becoming.
She s nothing like who I would ve imagined when I was younger but she s stronger and more
compassionate. I feel like each semester I become more and more the person I ve always wanted to be
and to parallel that I learn new material and concepts that I ll carry with me and find ways to
implement them in my life and in my career as I move forward. One of the most relevant classes this
semester has been Intro to management because of it s immediate applicability. I realized I had
strengths I had never recognized and things I could grow in. As we covered each module I tried to
analyze myself and compare myself currently to who I d want to be. I want to a mentor who can help
encourage constructive conflict, and help create change by leveraging my power ethically and
effectively. I want to become a visionary who can bring about change in the world and in my
workplace by effectively walking people through the process of change, but I know in order to do that
I need to learn boundaries and how to keep people accountable for non compliance. I could also learn
a lot about how to better organize and coordinate projects, after I have communicated the vision.
Through this class I ve

Igor Reznikoff s Ideas To Create The Analytical Engine
Johnson refers to Lovelace and Babbage as time travelers, although he doesn t mean so literally the
point he is conveying is that they were both drastically ahead of their era in a creative and innovative
sense. Working together, Ada and Charles were able to combine their out of the box ambitions and
systematic thought process to create the Analytical Engine. I believe it was Ada s background in
mathematics and her father s work that drove her to push the boundaries of what Babbage had in
mind. Ada said, the Engine might compose elaborate and scientific pieces of music of any degree of
complexity or extent in reference to her vision of using the Analytical Engine for more than complex
number crunching (265). It was the constant challenge the two presented one another that molded the
Engine into what it became. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although he was a music ethnographer, Igor used knowledge from his field in an anthropological
setting by studying the cave paintings found in France in relation to their placement and the sound
produced in those areas. Reznikoff s theory is that Neanderthal communities gathered beside the
images they had painted, and they chanted or sang in some kind of shamanic ritual, using the
reverberations of the cave to magically widen the sound of their voices (Johnson 99). If the
connections had not been made between the sound amplification in the cave and the concentrations of
paintings, we would not have the same insight we do today about Neanderthal communities and
incidences of cave paintings around the globe would seem

Political And Political Effects Of The European...
The European Revolutions of 1848 were sequences of republican rebellions against the monarchs,
which were thought of as the height of a sequence of political, economic, and social disasters. The
revolutions began in large urban areas and its results, particularly in France, Germany, and the
Austrian Empire, were a shock to Europe with the defeat of the European Revolutions and cause
general disenchantment with liberals. Though the revolutions spread to small rural parts, the relative
strengths of leaders, as well as the conflict between liberal and nationalist and the role of the working
class, all contributed to its impact. The revolutions of 1848 caused the most brutal and extensive
political movements that affected the political, economic, social and cultural aspects of European
nations, while aiming for democracy.
France was where the revolutions first started, when its people sought suffrage worldwide. After the
King discharged François Guizot, aiming to outlaw the banqueting campaign , it led to the radicals
protesting which caused violence as troops shot at the protesters. This brutality amplified the anger of
the French people. Refusing to release the protesters also just fueled the fight for reform even more,
which led to the organization of a second government after the King s resignation. In the end, the
disaster increased as the constitutional government experienced challenges. Later, the people failed to
assert a new government and eventually young workers

Banning Books Essay
Name
Professor
Course
Date
The practice of censorship and banning of books in learning institution has been prevalent mostly due
to the explicit content incorporated in them. However, banning of certain books in pretense to conceal
content perceived inappropriate to impressionable children is an infringement of their right to access
information of their area of choice. While banning some book at times has valid reasons, it is
important to endorse and emphasize that every child has the liberty to select, at their discretion, which
book to read. While it is agreeable that parents and teachers should play a noble role in regulating
books that entail controversial topics as well as educating their children as their primary guardian,
their right does not extend to controlling and monitoring what children read ... Show more content on

Book censorship and bans only primes to conformity and thus limiting the variety and range of
expression as well as inquiry on which the philosophy depends. Banning and censoring reading
materials is capable of limiting the technological innovations, research as well as creativity. It is hence
the responsibility of the democracy to avail a diversity of views whether popular or unpopular and else
should not coerce the opinions and ideas of some while inhibiting the exertions of others (Memphis,
1). Rather than banning books content, publishers should rather give complete connotation to the
liberty of reading by providing books capable of enriching the diversity as well as the quality of
knowledge. Reading liberation is of diminutive consequence not unless the reader obtains materials
suiting their purposes. Books should hence not be banned due to diverse peoples conflicting views
either since one is not entitled to agree with what he reads but should rather learn from it. For instance,
history aids students in knowing the events that transpired to shape the world as it is

Anti-Access Legislation Has Swept Across The Country And
Anti access legislation has swept across the country and is not just confined to Texas or even that
geographic region. States like Missouri, North Dakota, Tennessee, Arizona, Indiana, South Carolina,
Utah, Florida, Kentucky, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and many others are present in one or
both of these groups. The current battle is anti access legislation as states seek to create an even
thinner funnel in order to prohibit more and more abortions from taking place. While the history
component is important in understanding the future of abortion in the United States, an examination of
the varying ideological arguments is paramount as well.

By grasping these, the differentiation between the two sides and specifically what they believe must be
done moving forward will become very clear.
Pro Choice
There are several sub categories within the moral justification for women having the right to choose
whether to have an abortion or not. These are: the feminist quality of life argument, the general quality
of life argument, the not a person argument, and finally the no duty to sustain argument. Each one of
these examines something that makes those who support a woman s right to choose tick. The feminist
quality of life argument is rooted on the idea that oftentimes an abortion is the best course of action for
a woman in terms of protecting and furthering her quality of life in all scenarios. The woman tends to
be the best one to make the decision to abort considering she is the key player and knows all of the
variables in her life and the potential life of the fetus. This is one way of examining this argument.
Another way to look at it is the fact that pregnancy is no easy task and has a profound effect on a
woman s life. Perhaps a couple had an accident and now there is a child growing inside of the woman
s body that she did not intend to have. By choosing to have this child, the woman is taking a major
risk and agreeing to give up a large chunk of her time to take care of it and nurture it, something many
women would not care to do. The general quality of

A Career As A Dietitian
I m interested in this field because I can relate to this stuff and dieting because I ve basically almost
have done this for most of my life. Nobody inspired me to be a dietitian. It s just something I was
interested in, but my mom really wants me to do it because she thinks it will help me manage my

Themes in Albert Camus quot; The Plague. quot; Essay
Albert Camus was born on the 7th of November 1913 in Mondovi, Algeria to Lucien Camus, whose
family had settled in Algeria in 1871, and Catherine Sintes, of Spanish origin. During Camus high
school years, he met Jean Grenier, the man who would influence Camus career to the greatest extent
by opening his mind to the philosophy of thinkers such as Nietzsche and Bergson. He and Grenier
focused much of their writing on the duality of mortality.
Still achieving highly at school, Camus received his diploma from the University in philosophy in
1936, examining the legacies and conflicts of thought in his thesis, which would later inhabit his
works. The philosophy of moralism he formulated led to his ideas of the absurd, a state which can ...

Individuals were regarded as free to determine themselves through such choices. A pessimist mood
characterised the early post war years reflected in Jean Paul Sartre s philosophy of existentialism. This
was the backdrop under which Camus wrote.
The Plague is classified under the genre of Impressionistic realism. There is no doubt that the book
was written as an allegorical experience of the author living in German occupied France during the
Second World War. The book is also read as, the occupation of Algeria by France. Another
interpretation of the book is that the book is a critique of totalitarian communist ideology, in which the
plague symbolises the repression of the people by a ruthless government machinery. My attempt in
this paper, though, is to bring out the various themes present in the novel.
Through this book, Camus tries to portray man s fight against an all pervading and arbitrary enemy.
The entire novel can be viewed as a statement about life and death, i.e. about human existence in
general. As with his other novels, The Plague deals with conflicts and struggles, freedom and
responsibility, alienation and the difficulty in facing life without belief in God or in absolute moral
standards. Other major themes one finds interwoven into this novel are suffering, separation, sickness,
rebellion, sympathy, and mechanisation of life.
In the novel an epidemic ravages the commercial port town of Oran, in Algeria. The early symptoms

Summary
The grievance procedure for current employees at Indiana State University applies to full time with
benefits (37.5/40 hours per week) or regular part time with benefits (20 or more hours per week). The
policy doesn t apply to staff members that are in the introductory period of there employment and any
sexual harassment and other discriminations such as race, sex, age, national origin, sexual orientation,
religion, disability, or veteran status. The first step is mediation and it is the employee s obligation to
make an appointment to talk to the employee s immediate supervisor within two weeks of the
confrontation. The steps taken when meeting with the supervisor is: 1. State the issue in an accurate
written statement. 2. Have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Then Vice President will review the issue with supervisory levels. The Vice President will have a
response within ten working days. The Human Resources will then hand deliver copies of the
response to the grievant and the supervisor by 4:30 p.m. of the next business day. Extended time limits
can be granted at any of these steps if both parties mutually agree in writing.
Flow chart Will be handed in with the hard copy.
2. Strengths
Indiana State s process of policy grievance is a three step system in which the employee has to take
action and file a form to the supervisor for an appointment. The supervisor then looks over the file and
then meets with the employee and witnesses. Then the supervisor has five days to go over the facts
presented to him and returns a response to the employee and the human resources department. This is
an example of building a consultation before, then giving the feedback after reviewed.
The process of the second step if the grievance is not resolved the employee has to contact the human
resources employee relations representative. The form given to the employee is marked with questions
such as: where did the incident occur, facts and exact information, and a suggested resolution. This
step goes with putting the focus on interests and keeping it

The City Of A Mid Size City
The crosswalk in this city is typical of a mid size city. Small businesses line the busy street, and with
people eager to get to their destination, a combination of sights, sounds and smells unites to form this
crosswalk.
This city s intersection is lively with the commonplace sights of businesses, people and vehicles. On a
sunny and breezy afternoon, three Eastern and Western based businesses, on the far left, line up one
after another vying for attention from potential patrons. In the middle, the sidewalk is filled with an
array of people. At the forefront of the sidewalk there are three people that are on the edge of the
crosswalk. To the left, a medium build, middle aged white female with long black hair is about to
cross the crosswalk. She is wearing black shoes, a black dress and a white short sleeved blouse. Some
people would refer to this as business casual. Around her neck is a lanyard that appears to be carrying
an identification badge. She is holding a rolled up, brown lunch bag in her left hand. While on her cell
phone, she walks forward and looks downward as to shield her eyes. During her walk, her hair is
grazed by the wind. In the middle of the sidewalk, a thin, elderly white man with a gray beard man is
the focal point of the picture. He is wearing a brown fedora, thin framed eyeglasses along with a
brown coat, gray pants and black dress shoes. His eyes are gazing forward as if he just locked eyes
with someone from afar. Coincidentally, his body

  • 2. The Role Of Inefficiency Of Medical Care Discussion Case #1 Raymond, a 78 year old man living in a motel, is found by the housekeeper lying on the floor of his room, semiconscious. The motel manager calls 911, and Raymond is taken to the closest emergency room, where he lies on a gurney in the hallway for 6 hours before a physician examines him. Because it is unclear what is wrong with him and he cannot speak coherently, the physician admits him to the hospital for observation. Later, when it is determined that he had suffered a stroke; he is discharged to an inpatient rehabilitation facility that has no knowledge of his medical history including his current medications for hypertension and high cholesterol. He dies there several weeks later. 1. Identify the source(s) of inefficiency of medical care. The first source of inefficiency in this case is that the patient was admitted to observation. The patient would be on Medicare and if he is admitted to observation, then to a rehabilitation center it will cost more. The patient should have been admitted to the hospital first as an inpatient, preferably in the ICU, because the patient was unable to communicate (Barry, 2012). When the condition of stroke was determined the patient needs to stay in the ICU, until stable, before going to a rehabilitation center. Rehabilitation will not do any good until the patient is well enough to be able to rehabilitate. If the patient is not stable enough, to be moved then this would cause a readmission, which would cost more money. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Apush Dbq 13. XYZ Affair President John Adams had sent several delegates, one of them being John Martial, to France to help sort out the issues between France and the US, such as the United States not honoring the Franco American Treaty, formed back during the American Revolution, when France had its revolution, by meeting with minister Talleyrand of France. Three of Talleyrand s men met with the delegates and told them Talleyrand refused to meet unless a large amount of money was payed. The delegates returned home and informed President Adams, who was outraged. The name of the Affair comes from the substituting of the three French men s names with X, Y, and Z in a Congress report. This event was significant to the United States during this time because, instead of helping our relations with France, like the US had hoped for after they accused us of allying with the British when Jay s Treaty was formed, it only made things worse. The United States was enraged by France s outrageous demands, and France was still angered by lack of promised US support during the French Revolution. 14. Revolution of 1800 The Revolution of 1800, as it was called by Thomas Jefferson, was the election that took place for presidency in 1800. In this election, John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, and Aaron Burr were all running for president; Adams didn t stand a chance against the other two after his presidency, and was easily defeated. Burr and Jefferson tied for votes and Alexander Hamilton, who, even ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Satire In A Modest Proposal By Jonathan Swift There s a Black Friday sale on babies this weekend; eat up! Satire can point out societal inadequacy and ridicule political policies in a way that is humorous in its absurdity while masking its true intent. In A Modest Proposal, Jonathan Swift uses exaggeration and irony to draw attention to the meaningless lives of the Irish poor under English rule. Thus, giving his work a wider audience while also serving as a furtherment of Swift s typical derisiveness. A Modest Proposal comments on the harm caused by the Declaratory Act of 1720, an act that allowed Great Britain s parliament to legislate over Ireland with no input from the Irish House of Lords, leaving Ireland in severe economic distress. Swift contrasts his calm, yet harsh criticism of English politics and the rich upper class with his own passionate beliefs. Swift s satiric pamphlet was not only effective at the time it was published but also in modernity; it remains one of the most well known satiric works in literature today. One of the reasons Swift s writing was so popular was because he wrote in a way people were familiar. A Modest Proposal was written as a pamphlet with the same title common of pamphlets at the time (Williams 51). Before reading through Swift s proposal the work would seem to be ordinary and tired. Swift keeps with the familiarity of the people in his style. Swift masks his satire with a style reminiscent of metaphysical poetry, a style popular in the late 1600s. While A Modest Proposal undoubtedly is not a poem, it mimics the main themes of metaphysical poetry. This style starts and remains a complex work through its entirety, relying heavily on the use of paradox and violence. These cannot be overlooked in Swift s piece; his major plot is killing and eating infants. What separates both metaphysical poetry and Swift s work from other works is its argumentative stance. Most pamphlets of the time would simply offer a humble solution while Swift fights not only with the audience but with himself to embed his main purpose into the audience s brain. When reading metaphysical poetry, the reader is trained to think thoroughly about what is offered in the piece and moreover, the author s true intent. In keeping with this style, Swift ... • 5. Psychoanalysis And Psychoanalysis Of Trauma This chapter starts out about a young woman who was a prisoner from the middle east who stated, If I talked about it, I would feel that it would happen again here. She was tortured both physically and mentally. Through all she has been through she finds it very difficult to even think about communicating to someone about it. It shows that their needs to be a sympathy towards the occurrences of trauma. They live with the pain deep inside. They have a hard time erasing it and need to learn to leave it in the past. They also do not believe they can get better. Ways to help these patients is with psychodynamic psychotherapy and psychoanalysis as well as cognitive techniques. Psychoanalytical focuses on the effects of trauma in relation to their personality and other dealings in their life. Trauma is the crushing of the individuals self worth leaving them feeling helpless in a terrible situation as said by Freud. Freud said that victims of trauma relive the situations they encountered in their mind. Post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) main defense mechanism and coping method is dissociation. The symptoms of this disorder are recurrent dreams and intrusions of memories. The victim tries to avoid the memories and implications of their trauma to treat the victim must retell and experience the trauma but in a safe controlled space. Effects from trauma can last for many, many years. Those who suffer may not have the strength to recover. The torturer is making the victim feel helpless. They prey on their fears. The victim feels they have no safe place and they may become submissive to their torturer. They are always in fear of when their death will occur. They lose their sense of safety and happy memories. It is replaced by fear, pain, and depression. During torture the victim may also feel guilty or bad about themselves since they may have given information that would cause pain and suffering to someone else. The fear for their own life makes it hard to decide what to do in a torture situation. There are different effects of torture on the victims personality and their life according to the Swiss Psychoanalyst Amati. One, the relation to the body is destroyed. They endure tremendous pain, stress and near ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

FIN553 Penelope Case Group 2 Essay FIN553 Advanced Coporate Finance Case Study: Penelope s Personal Pocket Phones Group 2 Brian Erber, Jaime Carreno, Wenliang Zhang, Xue Liu (Introduction) Background info about the project. In order to evaluate the NPV of the first generation phone (project) ignoring the possibility of investing in the second generation phone (project), we projected the free cash flows (FCF) of the first generation phone through 2001 to 2006. The total FCF was calculated as EBIT plus deprecation and subtract any capital expenditures along with change in net working capital. With risk free rate of 10%, comparable firms beta of 1.2, and market premium of 4%, the appropriate discount rate for the project was 14.8% using CAPM. Sum ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The third scenario was ignoring the option to invest in the second generation project and selling the equipment in year 2. We evaluated this option as a put option. First, we calculated the probabilities for going up and down based on the assumption of a risk neutral word. As a result, the probability of going upward is calculated as 0.3375 and downward probability is 0.6625. In order to determine the present value of all the sequence cash flow at the end of year 2, we calculated the upside change rate and downside change rate as 64.87% and 39.35%, respectfully. The next step is to analyze the option value by using the Binomial Tree method. In order to determine the present value of all the subsequence cash flow at the end of year 2, we calculated the cash flow at each node on the tree, until 2006. We discounted all the cash flow at the risk free rate at 10%. The End of Year NPV of all the subsequence cash flow at Year 2 is calculated as $7,571,752, and the selling price of the equipment at end of 2 is $4,000,000, which is the salvage value. We found the NPV of selling the machine at end of Year 2 to be $2,951,861 as of Year 0, which is negative. The APV of the project after adding the option turned out to be $6,321,932. This negative APV suggest that the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Andragogy In The Military Essay Andragogy in the Military Andragogy is the study of the art and science of how adults learn (Reischmann, 2000). The military is comprised of adults that must be constantly trained to the highest of proficiencies in combat and non combat supporting roles. In the military, the personnel responsible for conducting training are noncommissioned officers, which are soldiers between the ranks of corporal and sergeant major. Noncommissioned officers must know their soldiers and be able to train them to the high levels of efficiency required to successfully conduct their missions. Noncommissioned officers must practice and use andragogy regularly to continue training junior soldiers. There are four definitions of the term adult: biological, legal, social, and psychological. The biological definition of an adult is the age in which people can reproduce. The legal definition of an adult is when a person is able to vote, get a driver s license, marry without consent, etc. The social definition of an adult is the age at which people start performing adult roles in society, such as a full time worker, spouse, parent, or voting citizen. The psychological definition, the most obscure definition, is when a person arrives at a self concept and become responsible for their life (Knowles, Holton Swanson, 2012). The ages in which one could be considered an adult is very broad with these definitions; however, every soldier meets at least three of the four definitions. The first ... McDavid still has close friends back home in Richmond Hill, Ont., who just go to school and do normal teenage things. They must be living vicariously through their superstar friend, no? • 9. Traditional Research Methods Of Quantitative And... Traditional research methods consist of implementing quantitative and qualitative research. Quantitative research utilizes statistical analysis by breaking down components of observation that are compared to other elements (Bergman, M. M., 2008). Qualitative research focuses on investigating the participant s range of behavior, usually with small groups, which results in descriptive analysis (Bergman M. M., 2008). Mixed method research involves using Qualitative research and Quantitative research designs. The advantage of using both is to utilize the strength of each type in order to produce an outcome that is most beneficial to the area of study (Bergman, M. M., 2008). The challenge with mixed method research in integrating the results of both Qualitative and Quantitative results in order to present unbiased scientific results that are worthy of discussion (Bergman, M. M., 2008). Action research is a practical or real world approach to a profession inquiry in a social setting. Educational professionals may use this approach to evaluate an existing teaching method or review a new method that may be considered for use in the classroom. After examining several primary sources, Tompkins found that different history books have different perspectives. It wasn t that the history books took different angles that was troubling, but the viewpoints contradicted one another. People who experience the same event told it through their reality. This becomes a problem when a person who didn t experience the effect wants to know what happened. Calvin Martin, author of Keepers of the Game saw the European settlement as an invasion of the Indian s spiritual relationship with the animals. Because of fur trade with the Europeans, the Indian s discontinued their spiritual ritual of worshipping the animal s carcass. When disease started spreading among the Indians, brought over by the Europeans, they thought it was because the spirits were angry with them. Practice makes perfect means the more you do something, the better you will become at it. There are three essential techniques of training to develop my skills as a baseball player: hitting a baseball, catching a fly ball, and running the bases. When I began to play little league baseball at the age of nine, everything was tough. It took me three years to master these skills. Perfection is almost impossible to accomplish, but perfection is impossible without practice. In my first year, my hitting was terrible and I had only one hit in twenty games. Septic Tank Analysis How To Care For Your Septic Tank So You Avoid Problems With Clogs And The Need For Repairs If you take proper care of your septic tank, you can prevent unnecessary damage and the need for repairs. You ll still need to pump the tank occasionally, but proper care reduces the risk of clogs and damage to the drainfield. Fortunately, taking care of a septic tank is easy. Below are some guidelines to keep in mind. Rethink Using a Garbage Disposal If you use a garbage disposal on a daily basis, you send an excessive amount of solid waste into the septic tank. This waste has to be broken down by the bacteria in the tank to form the sludge layer on the bottom. While this might not be necessarily harmful, it does make your tank fill up faster than ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Also, think twice about using chemical drain cleaners. Rely on a plunger or snake when you have clogs. Avoid throwing away prescription drugs by flushing them down the toilet. Antibiotics could affect the bacteria in the tank. Be Careful About What Goes In the Toilet Too Also, your septic system will work more efficiently if you avoid putting anything down the toilet except for toilet paper made to dissolve quickly. Some strong and soft brands of toilet paper, facial tissues, and paper towels are too tough to break apart quickly in the septic tank. This leads to clogging and premature filling of the tank. Don t send wet wipes down the toilet, even if the label says they are flushable. They don t dissolve very fast and they will just build up in the tank. Other items you don t want to flush include cigarette butts, cotton swabs, condoms, dental floss, and kitty litter. The above guidelines will help keep your septic system in good shape, but the most important thing you can do for your septic tank is to have it inspected and cleaned out regularly. • 13. Examples of Machiavellian Leaders Arguably, the most Machiavellian leader to ever exist would be Joseph Stalin. He abided by three major Machiavellian methods that were stated in the Prince: the ends justifies the means, crush any opposition, and displaying a false character. Stalin had a plan for Russia and did everything in his power to achieve that plan. He wanted to transform Russia into a industrial superpower, a military superpower, and a political superpower. To achieve his goals he committed many horrible crimes against humanity. To be more specific, Stalin killed more than sixty million people during his reign. He was a selfish cold blooded, heart less, and evil leader; human life was nothing to him. What caused him to develop such evil traits? It all started ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This strategy disposed Stalin of any political opposition, which helped him sustain his power. Another major method that Stalin used to maintain his power was the use of propaganda to portray himself as a benevolent father figure. While at the same time he was committing mass murder. In Ukraine alone he killed ten million people in only two years! Many historians agree that Stalin killed over sixty million people. Why did he kill so much people? This can be traced back to Machiavelli s The Prince. As discussed before, The Prince teaches that a ruler should have the fear of the people. Stalin slaughtered so many people to prevent any opposition to his reign. He eliminated all the strong people, both the intellectual and physical; therefore the few left would be too afraid and too weak, physically and mentally, to resist. Stalin did exactly what Machiavelli stated in the Prince, which was also stated above, And here it has to be noted that men must be either pampered or crushed, because they can get revenge fore small injuries but not fore grievous ones. Stalin stated Death is the solution to all problems. No man no problem. , Gratitude is a sickness suffered by dogs. , and I trust no one, not even myself. As it can be clearly seen, Joseph Stalin epitomises most of Machiavelli s beliefs that are stated in The Prince. Therefore, Stalin can be consider Machiavelli s ideal prince. I would not be worrying about a food crisis or starvation unless a man like Thomas Malthus came along and spread rumors that it could happen, especially if it is in our future. Since people were first exposed to that idea during Malthus time, it is reasonable why people would stress about it instantly. Nobody knows when food scarcity could happen. These are issues that need to be considered by farmers, scientists, and agricultural institutions. The Earth s land is a precious resource, because it sustains the food we need to live. Without land, there is no place to grow food, and without food, human survival is unlikely. Taking care of the land is a lifetime job, and all involved in agriculture need to do their job to sustain the resource and spread the message to future generations. Doing so will allow the land to continue flourishing, thus maintain the food supply. An overgrowing population, food scarcity, and land maintenance are some of the problems discussed in food politics, but another issue that is relevant today is high international food prices. After the year 2000, several economic crisis took place worldwide, leading countries to close or implement higher taxes on exported food. As a result, nations secured their domestic markets, but international food prices rose shortly. To deal with the dilemma, country leaders should consult with each about ways to manage the market during financial crisis. Some countries rely on exported food to sustain their livestock and population, so an increase in food prices could force dependent nations to buy less food and sacrifice some of their livestock, or worse, their people. The reality is that people are already pushed toward sacrifice. Almost a billion people worldwide are malnourished and close to death. No one ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It focuses mainly on the United States, and displays the various evolutions that will lead an industry that was mainly ruled by very knowledgeable people and hardly accessible to the masses to becoming an open market where most, if not all of the information concerning the prices and services offered are transparently displayed. This case depicts the reason behind the long lasting success of the SABRE system. The main reason being that SABRE is an evolving set of systems that altogether are able to create a competitive advantage for American Airlines. The airline company was able to keep this competitive advantage for many decades, only because of their continual technical and product innovation. The SABRE system embodies the changes that the travel agent industry has suffered in the past. As the case points out: continual evolution itself is not the success factor, but the combination of evolution with opportunistic exploitation of the opportunities offered by the industry environment might be the key to it. At first, airlines were offering their services to travel agents via some reservation systems that were complicated to understand and utilize. This led the industry to be very segmented because the travel agents would basically become specialized in one or the other airlines system, thus making their life more complicated and their profit lower. Whether it is practicing for a concert, taking care of the house, or even people doing their profession, everyone should take pride in what they do. If you do not like or love what you are doing no success can come to yourself. Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm told by Ralph Waldo Emerson an American poet. This quote says that you have to show that you care or that you want to succeed by building up your self esteem. Talking yourself up and making it a pleasure on whatever you have to do in any situation will create hope and can make the outcome better. The ability to talk yourself up and build courage all starts with a good attitude. In Ovid s the Metamorphoses, Pythagoras discusses a variety of beliefs including the four ages of man, autogenesis, and vegetarianism. The four stages of man as described by Pythagoras states, that the year displays four aspects, passing through them, in a semblance of our life. Each season represents a different aspect of man. Spring is a delicate time of year full of new beginnings and hope. Summer is described as powerful, rich, and expansive. Fall is the time between youth and age. Pythagoras describes winter as hair turning white. Each and every day we change as people. We are youthful and then after the middle years we decline as life moves on. Pythagoras believes(VOTH) that flesh is the diet of a beast and that only a beast is not full until it eats the flesh of another. He says that creatures that want to kill us should be killed, but not eaten. Pythagoras calls eating animals for food wicked and says those who eat meat not worthy of crops. While although I do feel pity for animals and cruelty done to them by humans, I am not a vegetarian. It is necessary to eat meat to consume certain proteins needed by our bodies. The circle of life allows for the predators to eat their prey. Humans do defy this stereotype due to technology, since there is no animal predator to us. • 18. The Physics Of An Experiment In 1964, John Bell set out to test the arguments originally described in the EPR paper and later more eloquently describe by David Bohm. In the paper by Bohm, he shows how one could conceive of an experiment to mirror the conceptual situation put forth in the EPR paper, by examining the dissociation of a diatomic molecule whose total spin angular momentum is zero. For example, the hydrogen molecule into two hydrogen atoms. In the experiment, the hydrogen atoms would separate after interaction, in different free directions. It is here that an experimenter would measure the spin components whose values are anti correlated after dissociation. If we define our axis of measuring as the one at right angles to the particles flight, then we can have a consistent measurement. If the measure of hydrogen atom one yields spin up, measurement along the same axis for the other atom would yield spin down, to be consistent with total spin equal to zero. This is an interesting experiment because of the incompatibility of spin components makes it analogous to position and momentum conjugates. Bohm eventually went on to publish a more sophisticated paper with plausible instrumentation to test his theories with Yakir Aharonov in 1957. A thought experiment that is discusses the ideas of Bell s inequalities are as follows. Management Ideas By Golden Circle Management Ideas The book not only describes how the leaders inspires us or how they play a vital role in the organization, but it also emphasis on the various practical ideas that can be implemented in an organization to achieve success. Some of the managerial traits that I was able to find in this book are as follows: Golden Circle Concept: This concept consists of three factors that help to motivate people. Great leaders always try to motivate people, inspire them and make them do the right things. Golden Circle Concept is inspired by Golden ratio which is a mathematical ratio that had caught eye of various influential people such as artists, mathematician and so on (Sinek, 2009, p. 41). This concept focuses on three factors that are used by the leaders such as What, How and Why. For Instance, every company that exists knows what they are doing, some know how they are doing and very few can explain why they are doing the things. Leaders who do things better of others tries to start with why and communicate precisely the every detail (Leadership Excellence Essentials, 2009). Don t neglect Why: Why is one of the important factor that helps leaders a lot to achieve success. As, I was reading this book I came to realize that actually everything starts with Why. Those who focuses on all the problems with Why is able to know the roots of the problem and solve it, but ignoring the problems starting with Why or anything associated with Why can be a big mistake made by a ... Basis for Recommendation 1. The Spanish beer market is contracting, and trying to win a larger piece of a smaller pie will prove very costly (Appendix 2). As the Spanish recession continues, revenue will decline as less beer is consumed and margins will shrink as consumers buy beer in supermarkets, significantly constraining Damm s profits (Appendix 3). 2. Damm has already entered the U.S. market via a 17% acquisition of U.S. Beverage, a specialty distributor that works mainly with premium imports (Peet). U.S. Beverage has had a successful track record with imports in the past, and this partnership will allow Grupo Damm to circumvent the process of having to find a reliable importer and distributor. 3. The U.S. beer market has been growing, and more specifically, the imported premium beer segment has been growing within the overall market (Appendix 4). Although other markets have been shown to be growing at a higher rate (Group 6, Slide 5), the U.S. market is several times larger at over 208 million barrels sold per year (Jones). Financial Impact of the Recommendation Under a conservative analysis of the project, an expansion plan in America will have a net present value of over $350 million for Grupo Damm (Appendix 5). Hence, implementing or increasing minimum wage results in loss of jobs theoretically. However, it also relies on the country s economic activity which may or may not result in loss of jobs. Previous studies on wind penetration issues and solutions found that the limiting factors of wind integration include penetration level, forecasting reliability, geographic diversity, hydro generation flexibility and control of the overall system [6]. Control is a key enabling factor for the deployment of renewable energy systems [9]. Control techniques such as linear and dynamic programming, genetic algorithms, and neural networks, proposed by past research, for the control and economic dispatch of renewable energy systems, have not been acknowledged to be error free [3]. Two major flaws identified in existing techniques include the lack of ease of use, and adaptability to new situations and evolving regulations [3]. The focus of this paper is sleep deprivation. Concepts necessary to understanding sleep and sleep deprivation are sleep control mechanisms, stages of sleep, and the different types of sleep deprivation. There are two biological mechanisms in the body that regulate sleep. Both processes interact and balance one another, and together are known as the two process model of sleep wake regulation. These two sleep controlling mechanisms consist of: circadian rhythm, which is also referred to as process C, and sleep wake homeostasis, called process S. Circadian rhythm is the regulation of the internal processes and levels of alertness in the body controlled by the hypothalamus. The two parts to circadian rhythm include the circadian drive for arousal, and the circadian alerting system. The circadian drive for arousal is the tendency towards wakefulness, and arousal and alertness generated by alerting pulses of the circadian alerting system. Miller motivates Willy to start a garden in the backyard of his apartment, even though the garden won t grow. This showed Willy to be the type who does not accept defeat, as he believes he can grow a garden, but to the reader, it s obvious that he can t. Although filled with the desire to grow a garden in order to start anew, Willy is unable to do so due to his apartment and his thoughts. To start off, Willy s inability to grow a garden is majorly due to the environment his apartment is placed in. In this story, the apartment is a tool of symbolism used to develop the idea of the modern world. The apartment that blocks the sun into his backyard limits Willy s ability to grow a garden. This modern society shadows over his house, keeping the sun away, also keeping him in the past. This leads to the way the modern world is run, and because it is different than what Willy can handle, he cannot adapt to modern society. The modern world restricts Willy from starting anew, but the irony being that not only does Willy not have the money to move on from his house and into a place where he could grow a garden, he simply doesn t want to. The Panama Canal Introduction The Panama Canal has become famous all over the world for being one of the most successful canals ever built, however, when it was first built many people thought that it was a mistake. During the building of the canal, there were many problems and scandals that had to be taken care of before the canal was up and running. Despite the problems during the construction of the canal, after construction the canal greatly aided the economic growth of the United States in the early twentieth century. In spite of the success of the canal and the seemingly positive impacts it had on the growth and development of the U.S., some historians still believe that the construction of the Panama Canal was not a good economic decision for the United States to make. The Panama Canal had a positive effect on the U.S. economy because of the time saved by traveling through the canal, the money saved from building the canal, and the growth of the U.S. economy as a whole as a result of the construction of the canal. The way we go about making, serving, and eating food distinguishes us from other people and gives the observer an insight into our heritage. In the American south, the combination of the Native American, European, and African food cultures contributed to the development of what is considered America s primary Cuisine, southern food. Before the Europeans even came to New World, the native indigenous people were hunting, gathering, and cultivating land. When slaves were brought to the New World, they were the ones that taught the Africans the concept of agriculture. In the article Influence, Sources, and African Diaspora Foodways, Frederick Opie says, Native Americans taught Africans different ways to farm, including the gastronomical trinity of beans, corn, and squash. If a slave owner allowed their slaves to have a garden, the slaves would grow their own crops. Even though their meals were mostly based off of their rations for the day, having a garden and crops allowed them to have some leeway as to what they wanted to cook. This is significant because everything was dictated for them and being able to personally choose how to create their meal was liberating. Africans would not have been able to create new recipes and establish new techniques of cooking if it hadn t been for the Native Americans who helped them adjust in the first place. Without the ... The requirements for this defence are for it to be moderate and reasonable. The reasonable requirement refers to the child having to wrongfully do something or threaten to do so. The moderate requirement states that the punishment must be in proportion to the age, build, health and gender of the child. Corporal punishment by parental authority can only succeed as a defence if it meets these requirements, as well as having the intention to discipline or educate the child. 3 1 Arguments against parent s right of chastisement The harm inflicted on a child when punishing him/her, violates the human rights of the child, which states that every child should be protected from abuse or degradation in section 28(d) of the Constitution. Another point of inconsistency the legalisation of corporal punishment in the private sphere, is set out in section 39(3) of the Constitution that states: The Bill of rights does not deny the existence of any other rights or freedoms that are recognised or conferred by common law, customary law or legislation, to the extent that they are consistent with the Bill . The current position of the private sphere is not in correspondence with the public sphere, even though they both deal with corporal punishment. Confusion could be raised as ... The state government was protected under the Articles of Confederation and had the ultimate governing authority. 2 The government of the Articles was a union of states rather than also of people. The result was a weak national government, since its strength depended entirely of the states willingness to cooperate (p 61). If the states refused to pay the national government could not do anything to get the money. The final result of non payment from the states was a weaker national defense. The states wanted to retain their sovereignty and argued that the national government would not be able serve the people as well as the union of states. Working together, Ada and Charles were able to combine their out of the box ambitions and systematic thought process to create the Analytical Engine. I believe it was Ada s background in mathematics and her father s work that drove her to push the boundaries of what Babbage had in mind. • 42. Political And Political Effects Of The European... The European Revolutions of 1848 were sequences of republican rebellions against the monarchs, which were thought of as the height of a sequence of political, economic, and social disasters. The revolutions began in large urban areas and its results, particularly in France, Germany, and the Austrian Empire, were a shock to Europe with the defeat of the European Revolutions and cause general disenchantment with liberals. Though the revolutions spread to small rural parts, the relative strengths of leaders, as well as the conflict between liberal and nationalist and the role of the working class, all contributed to its impact. The revolutions of 1848 caused the most brutal and extensive political movements that affected the political, economic, social and cultural aspects of European nations, while aiming for democracy. France was where the revolutions first started, when its people sought suffrage worldwide. After the King discharged François Guizot, aiming to outlaw the banqueting campaign , it led to the radicals protesting which caused violence as troops shot at the protesters. This brutality amplified the anger of the French people. Refusing to release the protesters also just fueled the fight for reform even more, which led to the organization of a second government after the King s resignation. In the end, the disaster increased as the constitutional government experienced challenges. Later, the people failed to assert a new government and eventually young workers ... However, banning of certain books in pretense to conceal content perceived inappropriate to impressionable children is an infringement of their right to access information of their area of choice. While banning some book at times has valid reasons, it is important to endorse and emphasize that every child has the liberty to select, at their discretion, which book to read. Rather than banning books content, publishers should rather give complete connotation to the liberty of reading by providing books capable of enriching the diversity as well as the quality of knowledge. By grasping these, the differentiation between the two sides and specifically what they believe must be done moving forward will become very clear. Pro Choice There are several sub categories within the moral justification for women having the right to choose whether to have an abortion or not. These are: the feminist quality of life argument, the general quality of life argument, the not a person argument, and finally the no duty to sustain argument. Each one of these examines something that makes those who support a woman s right to choose tick. The feminist quality of life argument is rooted on the idea that oftentimes an abortion is the best course of action for a woman in terms of protecting and furthering her quality of life in all scenarios. The woman tends to be the best one to make the decision to abort considering she is the key player and knows all of the variables in her life and the potential life of the fetus. This is one way of examining this argument. Another way to look at it is the fact that pregnancy is no easy task and has a profound effect on a woman s life. Perhaps a couple had an accident and now there is a child growing inside of the woman s body that she did not intend to have. By choosing to have this child, the woman is taking a major risk and agreeing to give up a large chunk of her time to take care of it and nurture it, something many women would not care to do. During Camus high school years, he met Jean Grenier, the man who would influence Camus career to the greatest extent by opening his mind to the philosophy of thinkers such as Nietzsche and Bergson. He and Grenier focused much of their writing on the duality of mortality. Individuals were regarded as free to determine themselves through such choices. A pessimist mood characterised the early post war years reflected in Jean Paul Sartre s philosophy of existentialism. This was the backdrop under which Camus wrote. The Plague is classified under the genre of Impressionistic realism. There is no doubt that the book was written as an allegorical experience of the author living in German occupied France during the Second World War. The book is also read as, the occupation of Algeria by France. Another interpretation of the book is that the book is a critique of totalitarian communist ideology, in which the plague symbolises the repression of the people by a ruthless government machinery. My attempt in this paper, though, is to bring out the various themes present in the novel. Through this book, Camus tries to portray man s fight against an all pervading and arbitrary enemy. The entire novel can be viewed as a statement about life and death, i.e. about human existence in general. As with his other novels, The Plague deals with conflicts and struggles, freedom and responsibility, alienation and the difficulty in facing life without belief in God or in absolute moral standards. Other major themes one finds interwoven into this novel are suffering, separation, sickness, rebellion, sympathy, and mechanisation of life.
