Relationship Between Tom And Summer
The film (500) Days of Summer is a story about the relationship between Tom Hansen and Summer
Finn. Tom and Summer met each other when they were both working at a greeting card company
and their relationship began and ended within two years. Tom is best considered to be a hopeless
romantic, whereas Summer does not believe in the fantasy of love. Summer s aversion to love
stems from her parent s divorce, but it is the opposite for Tom even though his parents were
divorced also. With Tom and Summer being two polar opposites from each other, it is easy to
see how their relationship will already have conflict embedded within it. Although their story is
not a conventional love story, Tom and Summer s relationship that they never put a label on can
be applied to various concepts of male/female communication. Tom and Summer s relationship
can be best analyzed by using John Lee s types of love, with a focus on eros, ludus, and mania;
and their relationship can also be analyzed by using dependence power theory. Tom s primary
love type is best described as eros. Eros love, according to John Lee, is the type of love that
correlates with the notion love at first sight . Eros love is intense with a strong attraction from the
very start. When Tom first sees Summer when she begins working as the new assistant, he
immediately stops to stare at her and in his mind he thinks that from the moment he saw Summer,
he knew she was the girl for him. As a hopeless romantic and eros

Legalizing Medical Cannabis
Legalizing Medical Cannabis Today medicine is becoming more and more expensive and less
natural as we advance in the medical industry. Medical Technology is so advance that there is a
treatment for every kind of sickness. Some more dangerous than others but one of most simple and
natural of them all is Medical Cannabisor better known as Marijuana . It was first prohibited in
1937 under the Marijuana Tax Act the move was made to protect the patents and fortunes of a few
ultra wealthy capitalists. But since then the drug has been proven to help with medical treatments.
Marijuana is becoming more mainstream: more than 20 states have legalized it in some way or
another, and several other states are thinking of changing their Medical Cannabis

Serial Entrepreneurs Research Paper
Serial entrepreneurs often start multiple businesses during their careers. These people are
entrepreneurs who work in varied areas of the business world. The reasons behind joining this
small group vary as widely as their professions. While looking at these individuals key traits happen
to become evident.
The information provided is general though the characteristics seem to be wide spread among the
most successful serial entrepreneurs. Entrepreneurs are not every day or common. Every American
does not choose to open businesses.
Opening a business is not easy. To be a success a person needs many skills or access to people with
those skills as well as the money to open in the first place. A majority of entrepreneurs who do not

A serial entrepreneur often needs to find challenges invigorating reaching to overcome instead of
being overwhelmed.
2. Drive
Drive to grow the company. Having an idea is not enough being passionate about the work is the
vital point. Passion brings great drive to an enterprise. Growth is the name of the game. Pushing
past the troubles of start up into a more stable business model is important. Without drive there is
no motivation. This only leads to stagnation.
Take the chance, no risk no reward. Many serial entrepreneurs have a bit of a daredevil nature they
are risk takers willing to put their word and money on the line to make things work. Being
tenacious is part of the characteristic that lead to drive. Entrepreneurs have an unstinting belief that
their idea is right. The individual can make more happen for them than anyone watching from the
outside can believe. This confidence is backed by an uncanny desire to achieve.
3. Relationships
The art of relationships is the ability to build them in addition to knowing which will be beneficial.

Ronald Aylmer Fisher Research Paper
Sir Ronald Aylmer Fisher is noted as one of the most influential scientists of the twentieth century.
Described by Danish statistician, Anders Hald, as a genius who almost single handedly created
the foundations for modern statistical science, Fisher is most known for his contributions to
experimental design. Though Fisher is mostly regarded as a statistician, he was mainly interested
in evolution and genetics, especially eugenics, from an early age. However, he felt that he could
contribute more to the field of biology as a statistician than he could as a biologist, which proved
true. Some of his most famous contributions include Fisher s exact test, Fisher s Principle, F
distribution, etc. Ronald Aylmer Fisher was born February 17, 1890 in London, England, to George

England at the time, Streatham. Despite the fact his family could no long afford to send Fisher to

In addition to his family s misfortunes, Ronald Fisher had extremely poor eyesight. However, the
shortsightedness taught Fisher to approach mathematics in a way many cannot. He was able to
visualize math problems and solve them in his head rather working them out on paper, using
calculations and proof, like most other people. While the shortsightedness

Essay on Childhood Schizophrenia
Schizophrenia is a mental illness which affects millions of people throughout the world. Scientists
have begun to understand more and more about the possible causes, predisposing factors, types,
and possible treatments for schizophrenia. (Torrey, 1995) It is very rare for schizophrenic
symptoms to appear before the age of 12 but it does occur. Recently, there has been a growing
interest in childhood schizophrenia. It is less than one sixtieth as common as the adult onset type
but the characteristics are very similar. Childhood schizophrenia also tends to be harder to treat and
to have a worse prognosis than the adult onset form. (Rapoport, 1997)

It seems to be centered in the 6th 7th month of fetal development, a period characterized by
neuronal migration and especially rapid brain growth. (Eggers, 1991) Once the child is born,
there are many signs of the onset of schizophrenia. Major feeding disturbances occurred and
children were described as having poor sucking ability or falling asleep every time the mother
tried to nurse. (Cantor, 1988) The major sign is the mother infant relationship. The child has no
desire to cuddle with the parents or be held and create the bond that is so desperately needed.
(Arieti, 1974) The sleep cycle is often the first symptom to pre schizophrenia. Infants were
reported to В‘sleep almost constantly during the first few months, yet by the age of six months,
they refuse to sleep at all . (Cantor, 1988) Severe nightmares are very common in the first two
years of life, where the child is unable to be awoken, or the child wakes spontaneously, vomits,
and falls back asleep. (Cantor, В‘88) By the time the child is three or four, serious sleep
disorders begin to develop. The child just can t fall asleep, and it seems like they just can t relax .
(Cantor, В‘88) These children are more likely to sleep walk, and have no fear in doing anything

in fact, schizophrenic children become cautious and fearful as the awareness of their alien world

I do delegate some people by voting, whose take care of our image.
Usually, they deal with post messages in online forums that concern our own business in any way.
Their comments need to be helpful and genuine to others (or they won t visit our business website).
That means, we can link back to our business website here and there, but not constantly, as that can

Israel Water Conflict
The long and winding road to peace between Israel and Palestine is fraught with complications
that impede the establishment of stable coexistence in the troubled region. For as long as the
Israeli Palestinian conflict has been ongoing, it has largely been recognized as a dispute over land,
borders, and sovereignty. Within the core conflict of land rights lies the equally important and
inseparable issue of water rights. Inequality between Israeli citizens and Palestinians in the
occupied territories permeates into all aspects of daily life from land ownership to travel
restrictions to resource access, including water. A humanitarian crisis has arisen out of Israels policy
of allocating the lion s share of the available water to Israeli citizens... Show more content on

economics: limited resources and ever growing demand. Sharing primary sources of groundwater

region s dry physical climate as well as the volatile political climate. The prevailing environmental
conditions are limitations imposed by nature, but the problem has been compounded by the

Accommodating the Daily Challenges of the Hearing Impaired...
Introduction
People who are hearing impaired experience issues at school, work, and in their personal life.
Although there are varying degrees of hearing impairments, there are several accommodations that
could be made to support individuals with hearing loss. Each individuals is unique therefore,
accommodations may vary from person to person. The March of Dimes defines a hearing
impairment as the decreased ability to hear and discriminate among sounds. There are several
degrees of hearing loss but the most important thing to remember is that any individual with a
hearing impairment will need accommodations that a person without a hearing impairment won t.
People often have preconceived ideas about people with disabilities and that can ... Show more

It restricts questions that can be asked about an applicant s disability before a job offer is made, and
it requires that employers make reasonable accommodation to the known physical or mental
limitations of otherwise qualified individuals with disabilities, unless it results in undue hardship
(US department of education, 2011).
It s important that individuals with disabilities and their support system are educated regarding
their rights to education and work.
Issues At School
Individuals with hearing impairments will require more attention and assistance than students
without hearing loss. It can be easy to assume that a child can keep up with the class if everything is
written on the board. Children may also avoid sitting where they can see the board because they do
not want to draw attention to themselves. Unfortunately, teachers may subconsciously point out to
the class the accommodations of the student with a disability (Murphy, 2006).
One aspect that is especially important is an issue that may arise during an emergency. For hearing
impaired individuals an emergency can be scary and confusing because they may not know what to
do. An educator must not assume that the student will understand what to do by following
classmates. The student must be taught what to do in an emergency in a way that he/she will
understand.

Collapse Of Hawaii Essay
HONOLULU, Hawaii A giant stream of molten hot lava is shooting out of a sea cliff on Hawaii
Island. The lava is pouring into the Pacific Ocean. It is exploding as soon as it hits the water.
Molten lava is rock that is so hot is has become liquid. It can erupt out of the mouth of volcanos. It
can also pour out of natural tunnels known as lava tubes.
The huge new lava flow originates from within the Kilauea volcano. It is gushing from a lava tube
exiting on the southeast side of the Big Island.
The tube was exposed when a huge lava delta broke off and fell into the ocean on New Year s Eve.
A lava delta is new land formed when lava cools and becomes solid. The collapse of this delta

On land, the National Park Service is responsible for the safety of visitors along the shore. It has

The cliff edge is part of a large lava bench. Lava benches are ledges of land formed from cooling
lava. They sit on top of the original shoreline and can break off at any time without warning.
If people were on the edge as it broke off, they would likely lose their lives, Cindy Orlando said.
Orlando is the superintendent of Hawaii Volcanoes National Park.
Areas along the cliff are now roped off and danger signs have been posted. Even so, people are still
going to parts of the cliff edge near the lava flow, Orlando said.

Essay On Foreign Direct Investment
Conceptual Framework and profile of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) and Economic Growth in
India

During 1400 1700 in Europe people think about the Renaissance, but something else was
happening on the other side of the world. The Europeans that came to North America helped the
world be more connected at the cost of the Indians. The Europeans discovered North America and

but loved the trades they brought. They permanently changed the world from plants and animals
to culture but changed it for the worse by bringing diseases. On Columbus s second trip to

Rikki tikki cared for Darzee and his family so he stood up for them. Secondly, If I don t break his

Ted Talk Essay
When it comes to choice it always seems to be a love hate relationship: we hate making them,
but we can t live without them. Anyone can all look back to a time in our lives where they wish
someone could just pick for us, or times when we wish there were more to choose from. All
Americans have many choices, and it is such a part of our daily lives that we don t even realize it.
Barry Schwartz and Sheena Iyengar s TEDtalks bring up interesting ideas about choice, how people
deal with them and their affects. They both state that although choice is good, it can also have
negative effects. Schwartz explains what most people believe and experience with choice, while
Iyengar shows cultural differences in choice making. Both Schwartz and Iyengar... Show more

The second is the more choices the more likely that the best choice can be made, and the third
assumption is that you should never say no to choice. Iyengard evaluates these three
assumptions with various studies where one group is American and the other is another culture.
Her studies help understand why and how Americans make choices in comparison to the rest of
the world. Without doubt, Iyengard s studies and analysis on choice is interesting but Schwartz
s was clearer because it easily communicated the message that was more applicable to the public.
Choices are an important part of everyone s lives and the choices we make can reflex who we
are as individuals. Choice and the ability to choose are excellent and can represent a sense of
freedom. Schwartz s and Iyengard s analysis on choice focused on the effects of choice in people
and how people react and deal with it. Schwartz s Official Dogma and explanation of how
Americans act in response to choice making is the most relatable to individuals and clearly
chows the consequences of too much choice. His analysis can assist to people realize that maybe
because we have more choice doesn t necessarily mean we will make us happier or the best
decision will be made. Understanding the consequences of too much choice can possibly make
individuals improve the negative effects it can have and make us happier with our

Essay On Great White Sharks
With a body like a torpedo and a mouth like a black hole, it s nearly impossible to not think about
this miraculous predator as you float on the surface of the great blue sea. Even though the great
white is virtually the perfect predator, an attack on a human is unlikely and for the attack to be
fatal is even more unlikely. Being at the top of the food chain the sharkhas few threats. Orcas and
larger sharks are their only fear. Ironically, human interaction poses the biggest threat to the sharks.
They are caught and their fins and jaws are sold. Great whites can grow between 15 and 20 feet in
length and weigh up to 5,000 lbs. making them the largest predatory fishin the world. Males reach
maturity around 10 years old while females mature later between 14 and 16 years of age. Females
also grow to become much larger than males. Not much is known about a great white sharks mating
rituals because it has never been witnessed but it is known the eggs hatch in the female s womb
and the pups feed on the unfertilized eggs. Females give birth to between ten and twelve pups a

Essay about The Chrysalids
The Chrysalids by John Wyndham is about an innocent boy with telepathic abilities living in an
anti mutant society. This boy, David, faces several challenges which made him realise of the ways
of the world he is in. The main theme of the novel is discrimination and it can be seen from the
society of Waknuk, Joseph Strorm and the setting of the book.
The society of Waknuk is taught to follow the laws of God and the Definition of Man for they fear
the punishment that they will receive if they do not so. This fear has blinded the people of Waknuk,
so much so that they cannot differentiate between right and wrong, devotion and discrimination.

When Sophie s deviation was discovered, she was forced to flee to the Fringes, where there would
be no discrimination of physical appearances as everyone there are deviants.
Discrimination in the novel is mostly obvious from Joseph Strorm, who is ironically the father
of a deviant, David Strorm. He is the strictest devout of his religion in Waknuk and being the heir
of Waknuk, he bears the responsibility to keep the society deviation free. He does so by
discriminating against deviants, like the society, and punishing them for being born wrong .
His devotion to God and the Definition of Man can be seen when he hit his son, David for
wishing he had a third hand by mistake. He is sensitive to any form of deviation and punishes
them harshly but he does admit that God is merciful, as seen from God, in His mercy, may yet
grant you (forgiveness) . This is ironic as Joseph, being a devout, should be following God s
footsteps and be merciful in his actions too but he is willing to kill and punish people instead,
contradicting his religion. His intolerance of deviations led him to discriminate against them, as can
be seen from how he refused to help Aunt Harriet and humiliated her instead when she came
begging for help to save her innocent deviant child. Joseph had also discriminated against the great
horses unsuccessfully as the government had approved of them and there

Plot Points In Mean Girls
Acts and Plot Points
In class we learned that any script can be built up in to four parts, the parts being Act 1, Act 2,
Act 3, and the Ending. Act 1 is when the hero makes a wrong choice and it brings them to a
decision where they have to act to achieve their goal, it sets up the premise and is the beginning of
the story. Act 2 follows with a series of events that prevent the characterfrom achieving their goal.
Act 3 is when the hero confront their flaw in order to save them. And finally, the ending is an
opportunity for the audience to see what the hero learned through this experience. Every script can
be broken up in to three acts.

(One interesting thing is that the script has four goals, the fourth goal being her skanked out
clothing but the director clearly took out the fourth point. The main reason that I find this so
interesting is because of how prominent the idea of having things in threes is so much more
appealing to audiences.) Throughout the film it becomes evident that this large goal, built up
with three smaller goals is a challenge, but is achievable. Cady struggles with accomplishing it
by having some events set her back but in the end she is able to achieve it. The third part of a
goal is that it needs to have the character using her strengths in order to accomplish her goal.
Well, if Cady s strengths are her kindness, well, this becomes clear when Cady recognizes that she
is in the wrong and becomes self aware of how she has been influenced. She takes this and turns it
around and shows kindness to the other girls at prom as well as to the mathletes. These four points
to the goal are evident throughout the goal, therefore this script has a good goal that the audience
can support in which the protagonist try to

Essay about Hitchcock s Psycho
Hitchcock s Psycho Hitchcock had to make Psycho in a time of very strict censorship in the
USA. To get the film to the maximum audiences without having to change his ideas he showed
in the film, Hitchcock used devious techniques to get past the strict censors. Janet Leigh (the
actress playing Marion) said in an interview that she thought the strict censorship rules made
Hitchcock a better filmmaker, as he had to be more creative. This is a good point as if you have a

This technique also worked to distract the censors from scenes he wanted to keep but were
pushing the edge of the censorship rules. He was also willing to sacrifice some scenes to keep
other more important ones. For instance he told the censors he was willing to get rid of the
embrace between Marion and Sam in the first scene if he could keep the shower scene. This
embrace was unacceptable as one of the censorship rules were excessive and lustful kissing,
lustful embracing, suggestive gestures and postures are unacceptable. In the end Hitchcock got
to keep both because on the day of the re shoot of the first scene when they were going to get rid
of the embrace the censors never showed up. Hitchcock also used devious tactics like at one
point the censors said the shower scene was unacceptable so he took it back and pretended to
edit it. He then resubmitted it and the censors approved of the scene. The censors also allowed
the shower scene to pass in the end, as they couldn t decide whether there actually was nudity or
not. Nudity would ve been unacceptable as one of the censorship rules clearly states, Explicit
nudity is unacceptable. This was another good example of Hitchcock s techniques as he made it
seem like you where seeing nudity when you weren t. This scene was very difficult and took 70
cameras and 7 days to film the 45 second scene. He would always keep the

neighbor of Rodolfo, a poor poet, whom he meets one day seeking a light for her candle. The
libretto, for which Puccini and his two librettists, Luigi Illica and Giuseppe Giacosa, drew
inspiration from Henri Murger s novel Scenes de la vie de boheme, tells the story of the love of
two couples Mimi and Rodolfo, and Musetta and Marcello living in poverty in the artistic Latin
Quarter in 19th century Paris. The plot follows the ups and downs of their relationships as their
part and reunite, until, in the final act, Mimi death puts a tragic end to her and Rodolfo s love.

During her relationship with Rodolfo, Mimi demonstrates her flirtatious side, as it is implied
that she notices other men: as they are walking towards the cafГ© in act two, Mimi is said to be
watching a group of students, and when Rodolfo asks Chi guardi? , she answers, coquettishly,
Sei geloso? . This is further confirmed in act three, where Mimi confesses to Marcello that
Rodolfo s jealousy makes him suspicious of un passo, un detto,/ un vezzo, un fior , whereas
later on, Rodolfo hilself tells Marcello, con amarezza ironica , that Mimi e una civetta/ che
frascheggia con tutti , and that she encourages Vicount s advances. Mimi also momentarily
reveals her vanity and a more materialistic side, incongruous with the ideal of a modest maiden,
when at the beginning of her relationship with Rodolfo she wants him to buy her a new bonnet.
Andiam per la cuffietta?, asks the girl, and when Rodolfo buys it for her she is eager for
compliments ( Mi sta bene questa cuffietta rosa? ). But the new bonnet satisfies her appetite only
for a moment: Bel vezzo di corallo! , she cries watching the window of a shop, trying to induce
Rodolfo to purchase the necklace for her as

Authoritarian Leadership Style
How can group members adapt to work effectively if the leader is using an authoritarian style and
the group would prefer a more democratic style? As the chapter brought out it is not always a
ruinous event. Who in any group doesn t love a democratic style leader? Having experience with
both and depending on the group makeup and authoritarian leader is not always something I
disagree with. Nevertheless, the question that should be asked is, What is the group makeup? In
working with leadershipthat has an authoritarian style I have learned not to take it personally and
to be open and adaptable to every possibility, these two traits can be vital in this type of
atmosphere. When I worked in an environment where the authoritarian leader style was just that

The Between Suntrust And Regions Based On Customer Service
In today s banking market what is really considered to be the standard? Most customers are
looking for the same things from their bank of choice and most banks have stepped up to the plate
and stepped into the digital world. People today go to banks they know of through family and
friends or which bank is closest to their home or work. Within the mid south, the most prominent
banking corporations include SunTrust and regions. Within the banking system, there are many
choices, the current choice for most in the mid south is between SunTrust and Regions based on
customer service, easy access to locations, and ease of electronic interface. Customer service is a
large part of any businesses success. It can also be a big deciding factor when someone is stuck
between two options. Many times in the business community the smaller companies are better with
handling customers needs than the larger corporations. The same may be said of most banking
institutions. Although what happens when two banking corporations have almost the same sized
company, but one surpasses the other in customer service? That better customer serving corporation
then forms a better following than the lesser one. Both SunTrust and Regions are fairly prominent
around the mid south. Sun trust is seemingly the smaller of the two but lacks the friendly and
attentive staff of the regions corporation. Regions makes it a point to keep their customers happy
and keep them coming back for all their banking needs. Both

The Machinery in Dracula
The machinery in Dracula becomes important to the plot as a whole, but also important to
Victorian society too. For the sake of the Empire, factories were increasing the size of Britain s
economy and cities were growing, the military was gaining strength, Britain was at the forefront of
modern technology during the time. In fact, the way technology is described and used in the
novel, it can be viewed as a subliminal compliment from Stoker about the lengths in which society
has developed in that regard. Most effectively the Crew of Light gets to utilize technology whereas
Dracula is painfully unaware of the advancements of recent sciences. Well, you know what we have
to contend against; but we, too, are not without strength...we have the resources of science (Stoker
282). The utilization of modern technology and Bram Stoker s constant reference to trains paints a
vivid image of two things. One, science has improved and is praiseworthy, and two, that Victorian
society finds itself superior partially because of the technology it possesses. The author was a very
inquisitive person consequentially the main characters all seem to share a fascination with modern
machinery. As the economy developed under Queen Victoria s rule, trade ships ended up becoming
navies, and towns became thriving cities. Even in communication with each other they used a
phonograph, a recording device. This expanse of growth due to modern technology kept England
ahead of other countries, and so society

Chris Burden s Analysis
I still collect toys.Toys are a reflection of society. They are the tools that society uses to teach and
enculturate children into the adult world. Toys are not innocent. (Burden). When you think of toys
you probably think about dolls or Hot Wheels. What you probably don t know is the toys can vary
into anything. Toys are usually used to entertain yourself, but what if they represent more than just
that. It can be a famous cite, make you question society, or just make you think about how we re
treating each other. Anything can be a toy. You just have to be creative to make it more than a toy.

It s a famous site in LA that makes you feel connected and joyful. Without the lights on, you just

because all together the lamppost looks beautiful. So if we see what we can all do together it
will make our society shine. Isn t this the reason why Melton feels connected to it, because it
makes you feel happy when we re all working together? When Smith quoted Burden on how it s
now an iconic landmark, didn t he want us to know that this makes us feel like we can all come

The Image Of Blood In A Long Way Gone By Ishmael Beah
Ishmael Beah has been through just about everything a soldier in can experience while in war,
and he wants to show how war is not a good solution. If we do not take what he says into account,
loved ones may be taken from us and have to experience what he once did as a soldier. Or worse,
our loved ones could be killed by one of the many destructions caused by war. The blood shed on
the battlefields of warcould be our own if people don t listen to what Beah is trying to tell about
war. Beah uses the image of blood throughout this book to show why war is not a good answer.
He could have lessened the image of blood if he wanted his take on war to be portrayed differently.
Blood was chosen as the image because the main purpose of war is to prevent future blood shed
from occurring, but it really just creates more casualties and more blood shed. By looking at the
way Beah portrays the image of blood in A Long Way Gone , one can see that his view on war is
not a positive one, which is important because the way Beah depicts war is vital to Beah s story
and the overall tone of the book.
In a village, at the time of a rebel attack, Beah sees a mother carrying her baby on her back. The
baby is covered in blood, and its mother is covered in her baby s blood. The baby plays a huge part
in imagery in A Long Way Gone. I see a mother carrying her dead child on her back (Beah pg. 13).
Beah sees this horrific image himself. The baby was killed while a war scene was occurring in the

Prevalent silence is a sign that we aren t being productive, but the discussion must also be
meaningful rather than just filling the silence. For me personally, I need to make sure to pick
the times when my input is most insightful to speak up, as well as trying to reach out to the
people who are quiet. My level of heat started out too high and went down to a manageable
amount where I don t feel nearly as afraid to contribute. The class as a whole tends a little on the

The Role Of Internal And External Influences On Students...
While selecting the sample for the interviews, there were two major sets of decisions that had to be
made at the outset: (1) deciding on who to interview, and (2) what questions to ask. In regards to
selecting the sample, since this question was set out in order to see the connection of internal and
external influences in students making decisions in university, it only seemed appropriate that the
interviewsample consisted of university students. As such, university students were considered the
units of analysis for this study. Five students were selected using the purposive sampling technique
known as criterion sampling. Criterion sampling was used because in order to be eligible for the
interview, the participants had to meet the certain criteria of: having to be either a university student
, or a former university student (within three years of graduation), and had to have been enrolled in
university for at least three terms. These requirements were set in order to establish an optimal
sampling frame for the interviews. Using a non probabilistic sampling technique allows the
researcher to make subjective judgements that would aid in their endeavors in proving their
hypothesis. Rather than using random selection found in probabilistic sampling, non probabilistic
sampling allows for the research objectives to be best fulfilled by a strategically chosen sample
(Palys Atchison, 2014, p. 424).
Keeping the requirements in mind, the participants in the sample were chosen

Masada derives from the Hebrew word mezuda, meaning fortress or stronghold. Currently, it

engineering achievement with it s architecture and structure, making it habitable in time of
emergency. The geography also provided a natural defense for Masada, which helped Jewish

Cultural Relativism Vs Divine Command Theory
The biggest difference between Cultural Relativism and the Divine Command Theory is that
Divine Command Theory believes that rightness and morality is defined by and from God, Cultural
Relativism believes that rightness and morality is defined by cultures themselves.
Cultural Relativism is the idea that what is right and what is wrong depends on what culture you
live in. James Rachels in The Elements of Moral Philosophy used an example of Ancient Greeks
and the Callatians and their disposal of the dead. The Greeks believed that the most respectful way
to honor the dead is to cremate the body; the Callatians thought differently, they believe that the
most respectful way to honor the dead as to eat the body of the dead so that the family would

American English Consonant And Vowel Inventories
A contrast of the Arabic vs. American English consonant and vowel inventories. Abdullah
Alshahrani Southern Illinois University Carbondale Abdullah34f@gmail.com A contrast of the
Arabic vs. American English consonant and vowel inventories. Introduction According to
Hillenbrand (2003) and Thelwall and Sa Adeddin (1999), both the American English and Arabic
languages have diverse forms and dialects respectively. Thelwall and Sa Adeddin (1999), highlight
the two main spoken Arabic dialects as Al Shaam (spoken in the greater Syria) and Arabic spoken
in Egypt (mainly focused at the University in Cairo and the Al Azhar mosque). Hillenbrand (2003)

characteristics between the various forms or dialects of a language may vary. One phonetic
characteristic that might vary is the pronunciation. While language or communication can be

themselves. As such, correct pronunciation of words is essential in effective communication. A

Food In Japanese Food
We as humans, see food as just a necessity of survival. As we intake our meal for the day, it is
uncommon for us to think past the taste or temperature of what is being placed in our mouth; we
don t pay attention to the depth of what the food on our plate could mean to not only us, but to
others in the world. Unlike what most may believe, foodis an essential component of society. The
consumption, preparation and the values and customs that attribute to creation of these foods
symbolize a variety of thing in a culture. The way a culture prepares and eats its food shows us a
glimpse of what this culture may be like. The art that is involved in the process of a culture s
breakfast, lunch and/or dinner illustrates characteristics and the personality of that culture.
Though the Japanese are portrayed as fun, animated people in media, the Japanese are actual very
respectful, polite, structured people. This may not be something you can see in television, but if
you take a look at their meals and how they are prepared and consumed you can see how much
honor is put into the art of eating and how that symbolizes the personality of the culture at large.
Before getting into the consumption aspect of the meal, lets first look at how the food is prepared.
Japanese meals are highly structured events, and the different versions of a Japanese meal are
defined by the relative position of the major carbohydrate rice whose presence is culturally
important, (Ashkenazi, Jacob 2000, 82) No

Wuthering Heights By Emily Bronte
here are some wounds that go far too deep, and never heals. Such destruction can cost more than
beyond repair, and spark one of the most largest human motivations: vengeance. If left unnoticed,
the feeling will grow inside us and consume our every thought and ruin our lives. Therefore,
leaving no remorse or peace for ourselves and others. Emily Bronte s Wuthering Heightsis a book
about love that turns into vengeance and hatred that goes for generations. This story revolves
around Heathcliff, an unmerciful vengeful man. His desire to pay back those who have done him
wrong is so extreme that he finds himself unhappy and unsettled even after he succeeds. In the
novel, it is shown that there can be no peace in wanting unending revenge, as shown through the
conflicts, characters, and settings.
To begin, one cannot find inner peace if one has an utmost desire for revenge. This is shown
through the many conflicts between the characters and themselves. First of all, Heathcliff is
primarily interested in gaining land and vengeance towards others who have abused him or
doubted him. To backtrack, he was adopted by Mr.Earnshaw, and he had a stepbrother named
Hindley. Hindley mistreated and downgraded Heathcliff, and for that he feels the need to pay him
back. After Hindley died from over drinking, Heathcliff went in to raise Hindley s son, Hareton.

The Patterns Of Biological Diversity Throughout Rivers And...
The patterns of biological diversity in rivers and streams among taxa vary on a spatial and
temporal scale (Ligeiro et al. 2010; McGarvey and Terra 2015). Variations in stream ecology can
be contributed to water quality, habitat, and history of disturbance (Lingeiro et al. 2010). Creeks
and streams feed into rivers and other larger bodies of water, which provide food, water, and
other commercial and recreational services as well as a home to an array of plants and animals
which rely on clean water. The health of these smaller bodies of water can act as indicators for the
health of the larger watershed. Benthic macroinvertebrates have been used to assess the health of
aquatic environments. Quality analysis involves looking at benthic speciescomposition and
organization within the stream(Resh and Unzicke 1975). Different macroinvertebrates have differing
sensitivities to pollutant, with some being more susceptible to environmental toxins than others
(Metcalfe 1989). Such methods group macroinvertebrates in regards to their tolerance to pollution.
The EPT Index looks at Ephemeroptera, Plecoptera, and Trichoptera (mayflies, stoneflies, and
caddisflies, respectively) as indicators of aquatic community health. The idea behind the EPT
Index is that healthier streams have a greater richness of species as many species of
macroinvertebrates are intolerant of pollutions and thus will not be found in low quality bodies of
water (Lenat 1988). Previous studies have found that EPT

discretion, and we should trust that they will not abuse that power. It is true that the people of
America do not know the plans of various government agencies, and perhaps it is best that we
accept that and let them do their work. Besides, just imagine all of the terrorist attacks and other
incidents that will be prevented by these national security measures. While all these points are
logical, they re missing the point. Ignorance is not bliss, and a privacy invasion such as one that

basic freedoms and liberties. We cannot just let this pass by and become blasГ© on the matter; it
needs to be understood that there is a limit to what is acceptable and that is, what is necessary?

Antonio Da Correggio Holy Night Nato Essay
Artwork is often used to represent and symbolise the Gospel and important figures to Christianity.
One of the artworks chosen is Holy Night Nativity Scene by Antonio da Correggio created in
1530. This artwork focuses on the birth of Jesus and lays the scene of which he enters the world.
The other one is the Annunciation by created in 2003. This artwork focuses on the moment Gabriel
tells Marythat she is pregnant with Jesus.
The Holy Night Nativity Scene relates directly to the verse And she gave birth to her firstborn
son and wrapped him in swaddling cloths and laid him in a manger, because there was no place
for them in the inn (Luke 2:7). It is symbolic of Jesus birth and represents that although his birth
was simple, he was surrounded by love. This artwork links to the narrative dimensions of Ninian

Jesus is the brightest figure in the painting as this represent that he is the light of the world. It
symbolises that he will guide others just as the star of bethlehem guided the three wise men. The
other figures in the painting have a slight glow to them which symbolises that Jesus has touched
them with his spirit as he will do the rest of his life. They are all looking down at him especially
Mary whose sole focus is directly on Jesus. This highlights her nurturing nature and the love she
has for him and signifies just how big a part she plays in Jesus life and teachings. The allows the
audience to understand and appreciate the deep connection between Jesus and Mary. As Mary
looks at Jesus, Joseph is looking at the two of them adoringly. Although Jesus isn t his biological
child, it can be seen that Joseph is going to love and support him. This is a valuable lesson for
Christian as it reminds them to love anyone and everyone. This is one of the main aspects Jesus
taught throughout his life as he believed it to be of utmost importance.

Tb Is An Infectious Disease
What is TB?
TB is an infectious disease. This means that disease causing pathogens, such as bacteria, viruses,
fungi and protoctists, attack and contaminates the host s cells, then spreads to other cells within the
body.
Pathogens can be spread in many different ways which are: horizontal/vertical the disease is passed
through to the baby from the mother, either from the placenta or breast feeding; direct when you
come in direct contact with the pathogen; waterborne the disease comes from water you drink; food
you eat an infected item; vector another animal transfers it to you; airborne, the disease circulates
through the air.

This will cause chest pains and night sweats.
TB is more likely to develop if you have HIV/AIDS, are an alcoholic, abuse drugs, or live in damp,
overcrowded conditions. People with weaker immune systems, are also more susceptible.
How to avoid the spread of the disease
A vaccine containing a weakened version of the bacterium has been produced, called Bacille
Calmet Guerin (BCG) to prevent the spread of TB. This is often given to people aged 16 35 and
those more likely to catch the disease, i.e. people travelling to, and staying in, countries where the
infection is more likely to occur, healthcare practitioners, homeless shelter workers and immigrant
hostel workers.
Whilst working with an active TB patient, the spread of this disease can be easily avoided by
washing hands, before and after a task is completed, wearing the appropriate P.P.E. (personal
protective equipment), and making sure it is clean, never using needles more than once, and
correctly disposing of them. Surfaces should be wiped down with disinfectant, before and after
use, and all equipment must be sterile, to prevent cross contamination and there are procedures you
should always follow to keep both yourself and your patient safe. Always wipe down surfaces
before and after use, with disinfectant.
Diagnosis and Treatment of TB

College Students Should Be Given Information On Composting
College students should be given information on composting in order for them to know the positive
effects. When students get to college, they are no longer under parental super vision. They do not
have an authority figure telling them how to sort their trash. Students are able to think for
themselves and make their own decisions. College is the perfect situation for students to change the
way they thing about throwing away their trash. Students may not have thought about compostingas
an option because they were never given the resources to partake in composting. If student know
how to compost and are given the resources, then there are opportunities students will jump up to
take. As a college student myself, I am able to make my own decisions and have chosen to know
more about the different ways to throw my trash out. On a quiz published in Sustainability, a
casebook for writers, there are questions based on how well you know about nature. I was only
able to answer four of the twenty questions, which means I got the score of, It`s hard to be in two
places at once when you`re not anywhere at all (Sustainability 11). Meaning, I am more of a city
person who knows nothing about living in the country. This would make sense on why I was
standing in front of the trashcan, starring at the different slots, wondering which slot to throw out
my waste. If students are given the information they need to effectively compost, then they will
make positive decisions. Students who start

agriculture commodities includes crude oil, non ferrous metals like gold, silver, nickel, copper etc.
My basic study of bullion and specifically of gold amp; silver led me to the fact that though India
is the largest consumer of gold amp; silver. India largely has unorganized gold market. The
government policies regarding the same have also changed considerably over the years. From
being a restrictive trade, now it has been opened up after the recommendation of the Tarapore
Committee. Gold itself has a mass appeal in all the countries of the world and thus its prices are
always under notice.
Whole commodity market is divided into two broad categories those are agriculture commodities
and non agriculture commodities. Agriculture commodities include wheat, rice, pulses, cereals,
edible oils, ground nut etc. Non agriculture commodities includes crude oil, non ferrous metals like
gold, silver, nickel, copper etc.
I have mainly focused upon the commodity gold amp; silver. What are the essential features of
gold amp; silver as a precious metal and as a commodity?
This session would broadly deal with Gold amp; Silver as a commodity, its Production, Demand

Why Is Socrates Foolish
Is the great civil rights activist a fool for being persistent in what they believe? They would
argue that you are foolish in your decision to not be persistent. So who would we be to declare
Socrates a fool? Before you can truly make a solid decision on whether or not you believe Socrates
is foolish, you must have a brief understanding of Socratesmindset. Socrates is put in a sticky
position where he must decide if he will be true to himself or to his passion. Socrates belief in
justice is firm and directly correlates to his decision to stay in Athens and be persecuted.
Socrates character is a reminder of maybe the greatest civil rights activist ever. Rather than
viewing Socrates as foolish, I believe he is a hero in his own right. After a solid understanding of
what Socrates was trying to accomplish even in his willingness to accept his crueler punishment,
you will see that Socrates is far from foolish. Socrates is actually really wise, and may have just
been the wisest of his time.
The question could easily be, are you a coward for not wanting to accept your fate? The most
effective way to evaluate this question is if you equate this situation to a more modern and up to
date situation in your own life. People do not often give their true opinion on things until the

committing what would be considered unjust acts to man. They both had options to evade the
punishments. They were both willing to sacrifice themselves for the betterment of others. This
comparison may strike many as over the top, but the point can surely be proven with their
similarities. There is a principle of selflessness that is apparent in both figures, by them both having
knowledge that they could get in trouble, and continuing to do what they felt to be the right

Friendships are important to keep you going in life In Australia 1965 the Vietnamese war was
going on and there was a lot of corruption in the country as people were going off to war. As
Corrigan was described in the novel Jasper Jones by Craig Silvey it may seem like a city in
which friendships are very hard to form. The author tells us how everyone in the town lies and
how people didn t trust each other a lot. There are two friendships that author focuses on; Jeffrey
and Charlie, and Laura and Jasper. In the novel Craig describes how friends are important and how
lives of these characters would be much different without these friendships. In life sometimes friday

What Is The Turning Point Of 12 Angry Men
Twelve Angry Men is a very good movie and had a lot of ups and downs throughout the movie.
Yes, I think it took a great deal of courage for Fonda to vote not guilty. First, everyone thought he
was guilty without discussing and just jumping to a conclusion. Fonda actually wanted to give
some thought to it and discuss why the kid deserved a chance and why he might not be guilty.
Also, the mood in the room was very dark when all the jurors got into the room one guy just
wanted to go the baseball game, so he just wanted the kid to be guilty so he could get out of
there. Plus the fan wouldn t work at first so all of them were hot and were ready to get out of
there, so I think they just wanted the kid to be guilty.

old man had claimed he had heard everything that had happened. This one got some more jurors
to vote not guilty because Fonda said there was no way he could have made it and the time he

John F. Kennedy s Influence On The United States
The United States is known for being one of the most diverse societies in the world. It is made up
of over eight major races. One race in particular, the irish, makes up around 11% of the total
population(U.S. Census Bureau 2013). The Irish Americans have very strong roots going all the
way back to when they were forced overseas due to the potato famine in the nineteenth century.
These immigrants brought with them not only a strong heritage, but also many ancestors whose
children would play an important role in shaping many of the American ways. One person of Irish
descent who perhaps had the most significant impact on our country was John F. Kennedy. John F.

On April 15, Kennedy launched a mission known as the Bay of Pigs Fiasco. The CIA had
informed Kennedy of a plan they had to train Cuban exiles to invade Cuba. The goal was to
overthrow Fidel Castro and establish a non communist government. The invasion occurred on
April 15, 1961, when the cuban exiles set off to bomb their homeland. The fourteen hundred
exiles were eventually captured or killed. Kennedy paid over $53 million to get the captured
exiles back. The Bay of Pigs invasion was a disaster, and it embarrassed Kennedy greatly. This
wasn t the last crisis of Kennedy s. What became known as the Cuban Missile Crisis took place
in October of 1962. An American spy plane secretly spotted nuclear missile sites being built by
the Soviet Union in Cuba. Kennedy did not want the Soviet Union or Cuba to know that he found
out about the missiles. After much thought, Kennedy decided to place a ring of ships around
Cuba. He called it a quarantine because he wanted to prevent the Soviets from bringing in more
military supplies. Kennedy made demands for Nikita Khrushchev to remove his missiles from
Cuba. They both decided that a nuclear war would cause great devastation. A public deal was made
between the two countries that the Soviets would dismantle the weapons site in exchange for a
pledge from the United States not to invade Cuba. A secret deal was made between the Nikita and
Khrushchev; the United States also agreed to remove nuclear missiles from Turkey. The Signing of
the Nuclear Test Ban Treaty took place on August 5, 1963. This treaty limited the production of
nuclear weapons by the Soviet Union, the United States and the United Kingdom, and it gained
back President Kennedy s reputation with the American

This study examines the manner people process language through visual and auditory sensory
modalities under different study conditions, by measuring a person s percentage of correctly
responding if a word is real or fake and how much time it took the individual to react to their
decision. The study condition for congruent words, in which the audio recording of words matched
the real English wordshown on the computer screen, had a significant effect in helping
participants process the words more quickly and accurately as possible when making a lexical
decision. The study condition for incongruent words, in which the audio recording of words

Lexical decision evaluates how quickly a person can classify words and non words through the use
of stimuli s. The conditions of the study facilitated manipulations in visual and auditory stimuli s to
measure reaction time and accuracy when exposed to different circumstances, such as the auditory
stimuli matching/mismatching the visual stimuli/words. This study found that congruent and
incongruent conditions impacts accuracy and reaction time when choosing if the type of letter
string presented is either a pseudo word or a word. This finding suggests congruent or matching
auditory words and visual words assists people in quickly recognizing a word or non word and is
more accurate with their decision. Incongruent or mismatched auditory words and visual words
slow down peoples decision making and minimizes their choice from being correct. In addition,
the findings of the study also suggest that pseudo words and words had no effect on a person s
accuracy but rather their reaction time. The result for the types of letter string administered in the
experiment proposed that the visual stimuli s/words does not interfere with a person from correctly
making a decision, but makes people slower in making a decision. Overall, this online

(Dylan, 88) These lyrics, which were written by Bob Dylan over thirty years ago, are as
applicable today, or even more so, as they were then. I have always considered the song to be

various types of change. With the information age, it is quite possible that our lives are changing at

Many of our ancestors were subjected to working and living conditions that we would consider
deplorable. In many industries, workers were required to do twice as much work for less wages.
The hours were long and employers had little regard for workers health or safety. Consequently,
mines and factories had extremely high rates of job injury and deaths. For many, home life was
not much better. Over crowding, lack of sanitary conveniences, dirt, filth and disease already
stood in stark and glaring contrast to the comfortable, spacious, well furnished homes of the
wealthy (Dulles, 79). The rapid influx of immigrants helped provide cheap labor, competition for
jobs, and contributed to the overcrowding of cities. These conditions did not change overnight.
Early labor organizations had to struggle with both industry and the government to secure the
most basic rights for workers. In fact, it took over 150 years for unions to establish the legal right
to organize. Along with wanting wages that were high enough to provide the basic needs, unions
fought for the 8 hour workday, child labor laws, equal pay for the sexes, and public education
(Dulles, 108,132)(Encyclopedia Americana, 630). Various organizations formed to provide for the
needs of a diverse working population. Some were more successful than others were. However, all
faced opposition from the business owners. Companies frequently used the government

Thousands of people are residing in United States prisons and jails, and they go untreated. The very

disorders. Crime needs varying interventions targeting problem specific areas due to numerous
factors. The United States is the world leader in the increasing prison rate, in both as a percentage
of population and raw figures. As per a fresh report which employs data of each and every state,
a record 2,319,258 citizens were in prison or jail at the beginning of 2008; which means one
amongst every 99.1 adults. The increasing rate of prisoners do cost very high to the tax payers as
well as other plans of government. US government spent six times more on prison inmates than the
rate of increment for higher education expenditure. Another negative impact is that due to budget
shortfalls faced by states, they had made a proportionate reduction in expending on education and
other social requirement (Levinson 2002, p. 34). The rate of African Americans imprisonment is
radically greater than for the total population. A shocking ratio, one out of every nine black men
between the ages of 20 and 34 is in jail or prison. This raises the doubt about the racial disparity in
even police department. Supreme court Justice Kennedy warned that, There is the moral blindness

  • 2. Relationship Between Tom And Summer The film (500) Days of Summer is a story about the relationship between Tom Hansen and Summer Finn. Tom and Summer met each other when they were both working at a greeting card company and their relationship began and ended within two years. Tom is best considered to be a hopeless romantic, whereas Summer does not believe in the fantasy of love. Summer s aversion to love stems from her parent s divorce, but it is the opposite for Tom even though his parents were divorced also. With Tom and Summer being two polar opposites from each other, it is easy to see how their relationship will already have conflict embedded within it. Although their story is not a conventional love story, Tom and Summer s relationship that they never put a label on can be applied to various concepts of male/female communication. Tom and Summer s relationship can be best analyzed by using John Lee s types of love, with a focus on eros, ludus, and mania; and their relationship can also be analyzed by using dependence power theory. Tom s primary love type is best described as eros. Eros love, according to John Lee, is the type of love that correlates with the notion love at first sight . Eros love is intense with a strong attraction from the very start. When Tom first sees Summer when she begins working as the new assistant, he immediately stops to stare at her and in his mind he thinks that from the moment he saw Summer, he knew she was the girl for him. As a hopeless romantic and eros ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Described by Danish statistician, Anders Hald, as a genius who almost single handedly created the foundations for modern statistical science, Fisher is most known for his contributions to experimental design. Though Fisher is mostly regarded as a statistician, he was mainly interested in evolution and genetics, especially eugenics, from an early age. However, he felt that he could contribute more to the field of biology as a statistician than he could as a biologist, which proved true. Major feeding disturbances occurred and children were described as having poor sucking ability or falling asleep every time the mother tried to nurse. It s important that individuals with disabilities and their support system are educated regarding their rights to education and work. Issues At School Individuals with hearing impairments will require more attention and assistance than students without hearing loss. It can be easy to assume that a child can keep up with the class if everything is written on the board. Children may also avoid sitting where they can see the board because they do not want to draw attention to themselves. Unfortunately, teachers may subconsciously point out to the class the accommodations of the student with a disability (Murphy, 2006). One aspect that is especially important is an issue that may arise during an emergency. For hearing impaired individuals an emergency can be scary and confusing because they may not know what to do. Even though the great white is virtually the perfect predator, an attack on a human is unlikely and for the attack to be fatal is even more unlikely. Being at the top of the food chain the sharkhas few threats. Orcas and larger sharks are their only fear. Ironically, human interaction poses the biggest threat to the sharks. They are caught and their fins and jaws are sold. Great whites can grow between 15 and 20 feet in length and weigh up to 5,000 lbs. making them the largest predatory fishin the world. Males reach maturity around 10 years old while females mature later between 14 and 16 years of age. Females also grow to become much larger than males. This boy, David, faces several challenges which made him realise of the ways of the world he is in. The main theme of the novel is discrimination and it can be seen from the society of Waknuk, Joseph Strorm and the setting of the book. The society of Waknuk is taught to follow the laws of God and the Definition of Man for they fear the punishment that they will receive if they do not so. When Sophie s deviation was discovered, she was forced to flee to the Fringes, where there would be no discrimination of physical appearances as everyone there are deviants. Discrimination in the novel is mostly obvious from Joseph Strorm, who is ironically the father of a deviant, David Strorm. He is the strictest devout of his religion in Waknuk and being the heir of Waknuk, he bears the responsibility to keep the society deviation free. He does so by discriminating against deviants, like the society, and punishing them for being born wrong . His devotion to God and the Definition of Man can be seen when he hit his son, David for wishing he had a third hand by mistake. He is sensitive to any form of deviation and punishes them harshly but he does admit that God is merciful, as seen from God, in His mercy, may yet grant you (forgiveness) . This is ironic as Joseph, being a devout, should be following God s footsteps and be merciful in his actions too but he is willing to kill and punish people instead, contradicting his religion. His intolerance of deviations led him to discriminate against them, as can be seen from how he refused to help Aunt Harriet and humiliated her instead when she came begging for help to save her innocent deviant child. Act 2 follows with a series of events that prevent the characterfrom achieving their goal. Act 3 is when the hero confront their flaw in order to save them. (One interesting thing is that the script has four goals, the fourth goal being her skanked out clothing but the director clearly took out the fourth point. The main reason that I find this so interesting is because of how prominent the idea of having things in threes is so much more appealing to audiences.) Throughout the film it becomes evident that this large goal, built up with three smaller goals is a challenge, but is achievable. Cady struggles with accomplishing it by having some events set her back but in the end she is able to achieve it. The third part of a goal is that it needs to have the character using her strengths in order to accomplish her goal. Well, if Cady s strengths are her kindness, well, this becomes clear when Cady recognizes that she is in the wrong and becomes self aware of how she has been influenced. Janet Leigh (the actress playing Marion) said in an interview that she thought the strict censorship rules made Hitchcock a better filmmaker, as he had to be more creative. He was also willing to sacrifice some scenes to keep other more important ones. This embrace was unacceptable as one of the censorship rules were excessive and lustful kissing, lustful embracing, suggestive gestures and postures are unacceptable. In the end Hitchcock got to keep both because on the day of the re shoot of the first scene when they were going to get rid of the embrace the censors never showed up. Hitchcock also used devious tactics like at one point the censors said the shower scene was unacceptable so he took it back and pretended to edit it. He then resubmitted it and the censors approved of the scene. The censors also allowed the shower scene to pass in the end, as they couldn t decide whether there actually was nudity or not. Nudity would ve been unacceptable as one of the censorship rules clearly states, Explicit nudity is unacceptable. For the sake of the Empire, factories were increasing the size of Britain s economy and cities were growing, the military was gaining strength, Britain was at the forefront of modern technology during the time. In fact, the way technology is described and used in the novel, it can be viewed as a subliminal compliment from Stoker about the lengths in which society has developed in that regard. Most effectively the Crew of Light gets to utilize technology whereas Dracula is painfully unaware of the advancements of recent sciences. Well, you know what we have to contend against; but we, too, are not without strength...we have the resources of science (Stoker 282). The author was a very inquisitive person consequentially the main characters all seem to share a fascination with modern machinery. The Image Of Blood In A Long Way Gone By Ishmael Beah Ishmael Beah has been through just about everything a soldier in can experience while in war, and he wants to show how war is not a good solution. Or worse, our loved ones could be killed by one of the many destructions caused by war. The blood shed on the battlefields of warcould be our own if people don t listen to what Beah is trying to tell about war. Beah uses the image of blood throughout this book to show why war is not a good answer. He could have lessened the image of blood if he wanted his take on war to be portrayed differently. Blood was chosen as the image because the main purpose of war is to prevent future blood shed from occurring, but it really just creates more casualties and more blood shed. By looking at the way Beah portrays the image of blood in A Long Way Gone , one can see that his view on war is not a positive one, which is important because the way Beah depicts war is vital to Beah s story and the overall tone of the book. While selecting the sample for the interviews, there were two major sets of decisions that had to be made at the outset: (1) deciding on who to interview, and (2) what questions to ask. In regards to selecting the sample, since this question was set out in order to see the connection of internal and external influences in students making decisions in university, it only seemed appropriate that the interviewsample consisted of university students. As such, university students were considered the units of analysis for this study. Five students were selected using the purposive sampling technique known as criterion sampling. Criterion sampling was used because in order to be eligible for the interview, the participants had to meet the certain criteria of: having to be either a university student , or a former university student (within three years of graduation), and had to have been enrolled in university for at least three terms. These requirements were set in order to establish an optimal sampling frame for the interviews. Using a non probabilistic sampling technique allows the researcher to make subjective judgements that would aid in their endeavors in proving their hypothesis. Rather than using random selection found in probabilistic sampling, non probabilistic sampling allows for the research objectives to be best fulfilled by a strategically chosen sample (Palys Atchison, 2014, p. 424). Currently, it represents one of the Jewish people s greatest symbols of intransigence. In the name of tradition, some inductees to the Israeli Defense Forces take their oath of loyalty to the Jewish state on top or at the Western Wall of Masada, as remnant of the sacred Temple in Jerusalem ; The oath ends with Masada shall not fall again. 1 Next to Jerusalem, it is the most popular destination of tourists visiting Israeltoday. The fortification was built by Herod the Great, King of Judaea, who reigned between 37 BCE and 4 CE as a palace complex for himself. The overall product of Masada was an engineering achievement with it s architecture and structure, making it habitable in time of emergency. The geography also provided a natural defense for Masada, which helped Jewish sustenance during their last form of resistance against the Romans. Evidence of a siege occurring in this ancient plateau thousands of years ago are primarily sourced by the reminiscence found by archaeologists, as well as first century Jewish Roman historian Josephus. To further understand the history of Masada, prior experiences of society at the time shall be considered; the Jewish society has been condemned and conquered throughout history, as well the Romans height of imperializing and conquering being executed. Cultural Relativism Vs Divine Command Theory The biggest difference between Cultural Relativism and the Divine Command Theory is that Divine Command Theory believes that rightness and morality is defined by and from God, Cultural Relativism believes that rightness and morality is defined by cultures themselves. James Rachels in The Elements of Moral Philosophy used an example of Ancient Greeks and the Callatians and their disposal of the dead. • 37. Food In Japanese Food We as humans, see food as just a necessity of survival. As we intake our meal for the day, it is uncommon for us to think past the taste or temperature of what is being placed in our mouth; we don t pay attention to the depth of what the food on our plate could mean to not only us, but to others in the world. Unlike what most may believe, foodis an essential component of society. The consumption, preparation and the values and customs that attribute to creation of these foods symbolize a variety of thing in a culture. The way a culture prepares and eats its food shows us a glimpse of what this culture may be like. The art that is involved in the process of a culture s breakfast, lunch and/or dinner illustrates characteristics and the personality of that culture. Though the Japanese are portrayed as fun, animated people in media, the Japanese are actual very respectful, polite, structured people. This may not be something you can see in television, but if you take a look at their meals and how they are prepared and consumed you can see how much honor is put into the art of eating and how that symbolizes the personality of the culture at large. Before getting into the consumption aspect of the meal, lets first look at how the food is prepared. Japanese meals are highly structured events, and the different versions of a Japanese meal are defined by the relative position of the major carbohydrate rice whose presence is culturally important, (Ashkenazi, Jacob 2000, 82) No ... • 39. Wuthering Heights By Emily Bronte here are some wounds that go far too deep, and never heals. Such destruction can cost more than beyond repair, and spark one of the most largest human motivations: vengeance. If left unnoticed, the feeling will grow inside us and consume our every thought and ruin our lives. Therefore, leaving no remorse or peace for ourselves and others. Emily Bronte s Wuthering Heightsis a book about love that turns into vengeance and hatred that goes for generations. This story revolves around Heathcliff, an unmerciful vengeful man. His desire to pay back those who have done him wrong is so extreme that he finds himself unhappy and unsettled even after he succeeds. In the novel, it is shown that there can be no peace in wanting unending revenge, as shown through the conflicts, characters, and settings. To begin, one cannot find inner peace if one has an utmost desire for revenge. This is shown through the many conflicts between the characters and themselves. First of all, Heathcliff is primarily interested in gaining land and vengeance towards others who have abused him or doubted him. To backtrack, he was adopted by Mr.Earnshaw, and he had a stepbrother named Hindley. Hindley mistreated and downgraded Heathcliff, and for that he feels the need to pay him back. After Hindley died from over drinking, Heathcliff went in to raise Hindley s son, Hareton. Heathcliff s plan was to abuse Hareton and make him miserable to pay back Hindley. • 40. The Patterns Of Biological Diversity Throughout Rivers And... The patterns of biological diversity in rivers and streams among taxa vary on a spatial and temporal scale (Ligeiro et al. 2010; McGarvey and Terra 2015). Variations in stream ecology can be contributed to water quality, habitat, and history of disturbance (Lingeiro et al. 2010). Creeks and streams feed into rivers and other larger bodies of water, which provide food, water, and other commercial and recreational services as well as a home to an array of plants and animals which rely on clean water. The health of these smaller bodies of water can act as indicators for the health of the larger watershed. Benthic macroinvertebrates have been used to assess the health of aquatic environments. Quality analysis involves looking at benthic speciescomposition and organization within the stream(Resh and Unzicke 1975). Different macroinvertebrates have differing sensitivities to pollutant, with some being more susceptible to environmental toxins than others (Metcalfe 1989). Such methods group macroinvertebrates in regards to their tolerance to pollution. The EPT Index looks at Ephemeroptera, Plecoptera, and Trichoptera (mayflies, stoneflies, and caddisflies, respectively) as indicators of aquatic community health. The idea behind the EPT Index is that healthier streams have a greater richness of species as many species of macroinvertebrates are intolerant of pollutions and thus will not be found in low quality bodies of water (Lenat 1988). Previous studies have found that EPT ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The goal was to overthrow Fidel Castro and establish a non communist government. The invasion occurred on April 15, 1961, when the cuban exiles set off to bomb their homeland. The fourteen hundred exiles were eventually captured or killed. Kennedy paid over $53 million to get the captured exiles back. The Bay of Pigs invasion was a disaster, and it embarrassed Kennedy greatly. This wasn t the last crisis of Kennedy s. What became known as the Cuban Missile Crisis took place in October of 1962. An American spy plane secretly spotted nuclear missile sites being built by the Soviet Union in Cuba. Kennedy did not want the Soviet Union or Cuba to know that he found out about the missiles. After much thought, Kennedy decided to place a ring of ships around Cuba. He called it a quarantine because he wanted to prevent the Soviets from bringing in more military supplies. Kennedy made demands for Nikita Khrushchev to remove his missiles from Cuba. They both decided that a nuclear war would cause great devastation. A public deal was made between the two countries that the Soviets would dismantle the weapons site in exchange for a pledge from the United States not to invade Cuba. A secret deal was made between the Nikita and Khrushchev; the United States also agreed to remove nuclear missiles from Turkey. The Signing of the Nuclear Test Ban Treaty took place on August 5, 1963. This treaty limited the production of nuclear weapons by the Soviet Union, the United States and the United Kingdom, and it gained back President Kennedy s reputation with the American ... • 54. Online Cross-Modal This study examines the manner people process language through visual and auditory sensory modalities under different study conditions, by measuring a person s percentage of correctly responding if a word is real or fake and how much time it took the individual to react to their decision. The study condition for congruent words, in which the audio recording of words matched the real English wordshown on the computer screen, had a significant effect in helping participants process the words more quickly and accurately as possible when making a lexical decision. The study condition for incongruent words, in which the audio recording of words mismatched the real English word, also showed an effect in slowing down a person s response time and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Lexical decision evaluates how quickly a person can classify words and non words through the use of stimuli s. The conditions of the study facilitated manipulations in visual and auditory stimuli s to measure reaction time and accuracy when exposed to different circumstances, such as the auditory stimuli matching/mismatching the visual stimuli/words. This study found that congruent and incongruent conditions impacts accuracy and reaction time when choosing if the type of letter string presented is either a pseudo word or a word. This finding suggests congruent or matching auditory words and visual words assists people in quickly recognizing a word or non word and is more accurate with their decision. Incongruent or mismatched auditory words and visual words slow down peoples decision making and minimizes their choice from being correct. In addition, the findings of the study also suggest that pseudo words and words had no effect on a person s accuracy but rather their reaction time. The result for the types of letter string administered in the experiment proposed that the visual stimuli s/words does not interfere with a person from correctly making a decision, but makes people slower in making a decision. Contributions of Labor Unions in Society Come gather round people where ever you roam and admit that the waters around you have grown and accept it that soon you ll be drenched to the bone, if your time to you is worth savin then you better start swimmin or you ll sink like a stone, for the times they are a changin ! (Dylan, 88) These lyrics, which were written by Bob Dylan over thirty years ago, are as applicable today, or even more so, as they were then. I have always considered the song to be about cultural change between generations. Even so, the analogies of the song can apply to various types of change. With the information age, it is quite possible that our lives are changing at an even faster rate than when Bob Dylan penned those lyrics. The result of change is... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Many of our ancestors were subjected to working and living conditions that we would consider deplorable. In many industries, workers were required to do twice as much work for less wages. The hours were long and employers had little regard for workers health or safety. Consequently, mines and factories had extremely high rates of job injury and deaths. For many, home life was not much better. Over crowding, lack of sanitary conveniences, dirt, filth and disease already stood in stark and glaring contrast to the comfortable, spacious, well furnished homes of the wealthy (Dulles, 79). The rapid influx of immigrants helped provide cheap labor, competition for jobs, and contributed to the overcrowding of cities. These conditions did not change overnight. Early labor organizations had to struggle with both industry and the government to secure the most basic rights for workers. In fact, it took over 150 years for unions to establish the legal right to organize. Along with wanting wages that were high enough to provide the basic needs, unions fought for the 8 hour workday, child labor laws, equal pay for the sexes, and public education (Dulles, 108,132)(Encyclopedia Americana, 630). Various organizations formed to provide for the needs of a diverse working population. Some were more successful than others were. However, all faced opposition from the business owners. Companies frequently used the government ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 56. The Increased Prison Population and Improper Punishment... Social scientists and organizational psychologist have given additional acknowledgment to the influence of social and cultural issues in organizational system (Carter, 2000, p. 2). This clearly indicates that how these issues affect many fields of society and how important is their resolution. Many key global events of the last decade have captured attention on issues of nationalism and cultural diversities. As Hallinan and Jackson says, Within the context of the post 9/11 era a complex and arguably contradictory and paradoxical set of conditions, practices and policies have emerged in relation to how we see, represent, understand and acknowledge the diversity of Others (2008). In this paper, I have discussed issue of racism which our... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Thousands of people are residing in United States prisons and jails, and they go untreated. The very institutions which confines offenders, creates people with mental illness and drug addictions disorders. Crime needs varying interventions targeting problem specific areas due to numerous factors. The United States is the world leader in the increasing prison rate, in both as a percentage of population and raw figures. As per a fresh report which employs data of each and every state, a record 2,319,258 citizens were in prison or jail at the beginning of 2008; which means one amongst every 99.1 adults. The increasing rate of prisoners do cost very high to the tax payers as well as other plans of government. US government spent six times more on prison inmates than the rate of increment for higher education expenditure. Another negative impact is that due to budget shortfalls faced by states, they had made a proportionate reduction in expending on education and other social requirement (Levinson 2002, p. 34). The rate of African Americans imprisonment is radically greater than for the total population. A shocking ratio, one out of every nine black men between the ages of 20 and 34 is in jail or prison. This raises the doubt about the racial disparity in even police department. Supreme court Justice Kennedy warned that, There is the moral blindness in our criminal justice ...
