We are replicating J.R. Stroop s original experiment The Stroop Effect (Stroop, 1935). The aim of the
study was to understand how automatic processing interferes with attempts to attend to sensory
information. The independent variable of our experiment was the three conditions, the congruent
words, the incongruent words, and the colored squares, and the dependent variable was the time that it
took participants to state the ink color of the list of words in each condition. We used repeated
measures for the experiment in order to avoid influence of extraneous variables. The participants were
16 17 years of age from Garland High School. The participants will be timed on how long it takes
them to say the color of the squares and the color of the words. The research was conducted in the
Math Studies class. The participants were aged 16 17 and were students at Garland High School. The
results showed that participants took the most time with the incongruent words.

We will be preparing 0.2M sodium acetate and we will begin by weighing 1.64g of sodium acetate
(because sodium acetate is hygroscopic, we must keep container tightly closed when not in use).
We will then dissolve it in 50ml distilled water by swirling and use a 125ml volumetric flask.
Then we will prepare the 0.2M acetic acid by pipetting with a 100 1000 ul micropipettor 1.15ml of
acetic acid (concentrated) into another 100ml flask and dilute the volume to 100ml with distilled
water. Then we will pour it into another flask.
Next we will pipette accurately a volume (from 8 90ml) of the sodium acetate solution into a new
100ml flask and add enough of the acetic acid solution so that it makes 100ml of buffer. We will use
C1V1=C2V2 formula to calculate the molar concentration.

The war in Vietnam was unlike many wars that the United States has become involved in with military
action. The Vietnam War is one that the United States had no direct reason to become a part of the
conflict. Even though we weren t directly attacked by Vietnam to initiate American involvement in the
war, the leadership of the American government, at the time, thought it was necessary for the United
States to get involved to help stop the spread of communism. Many people disagreed with the decision
to go to war in Vietnam and one of those people who vocalized his opposition was Tim O Brien. As
we see in the book If I Die in a Combat Zone , Tim O Brien is extremely critical of the war in
Vietnam.
Tim views himself as a coward for participating in a war that he saw as unjust. It is very evident why
he thinks this way as he doesn t think going to war is the answer to the problems that are facing
