Polaris Securities Co. Ltd has experienced substantial growth in the countries of Taiwan and
Hong Kong. This document will review a case created around Polaris Securities and the
strategies behind its success. This review will contain a synopsis of the case, a brief history of
the company as well as identify some key issues in the terms of generic strategies that the
company used. The document will define the problem with their strategy and what would or
would not work accordingly. An analysis of Porter s five forces against the strategy employed
by Polaris will also be reviewed. Finally, a comparison of the company s competitors will be
completed and a summary of the case conclusions. Synopsis of the Case Study Polaris Securities
Co. Ltd experienced significant financial success for over twenty years in its home country of
Taiwan and through expansion into the Hong Kong market. The company is known for embracing
entrepreneurship, innovation, and the latest technological advances. As the securities industry
evolved in other parts of the world, Taiwan was slow to adopt these changes. Polaris s strategy of
embracing these changes and bringing them to the Taiwan and Hong Kong markets proved to be
very profitable for the organization. To increase its position in the global marketplace, the company
is planning to expand its operations into three additional markets. The markets of Vietnam,
Singapore, and Abu Dhabi will be a challenge for Polaris. Polaris s global

The Privatization Of Foster Care
In Reality, is the Privatization of Foster Care an Ethical Solution to the Dilemmas of the System?
The foster care system in America is incredibly corrupt. There is no denying that. America has had
issues with foster care since it began about 160 years ago. It first began completely privatized, and
as the federacy found ways to fund it, it gradually became entirely public. Yet, there has consistently
been problems with its operations. There have been multiple attempts in the government to mend
the problem, or at least help. A lot of these solutions have been disasters because the foster care
system is not continuously overseen and regulated. Children are abused both physically and
mentally, and will often age out more damaged than when they first entered the system. There is
one particular solution that has come to the surface: privatizing the system again. However, this
has never really brought any light to the problem, and even makes situations worse. The
privatization of foster care is not an ethical solution to the dilemmas of the system because of the
increase of abuse, undeniable deaths, and insurmountable corruption. The public sector of the
foster care system has issues with abuse, and the private sector is experiencing an even higher rate
of abuse (Therolf). One reason that abuse, in both sectors, occurs is that the children are placed
under the care of people who are not properly trained (Slattery). This lack of training often results
in multiple types of abuse

The Democratic Republic of Congo Essay
The Democratic Republic of Congo Formerly known as Zaire, the Democratic Republic of Congo
(DROC) is located in the center of Africa bordered by nine different countries and one territory.
(Lerner, 10) The bordering countries are Central African Republic and Sudan at the northern
boarder, Uganda, Rwanda, Tanzania, and Burundi on the eastern boarder, Zambia and Angola
directly South of DROC and Congo on the Western boarder. DROC is about one third the size of
the United States; consisting of 905,365 square miles of territory it is also the third largest country

The Congo River Basin is also known as the Cuvette, which is French for Basin. Rainfall is very
plentiful in the Cuvette and it is dominated by dense rainforests. Though rain is plentiful the soil
in this region is unfertile therefore resulting in a low population and very few farms. The
Northern Uplands is located along the northern boarder of the country. With an elevation of about
2,500 miles above sea level it is covered mainly savannas and grassland with scattered trees. The
Southern Uplands is somewhat similar to that of the Northern Uplands in the likeness that it also
contains savannas and grassy woodlands. Beginning on the southern end of the central basin, this
region has an average elevation of about 2,730 feet above sea level, having fertile soils and
retaining may of the countries mineral deposits it allows for the locals to grow grains and raise
cattle. The final geographical region is the Eastern Highlands, this great portion extends
approximately 958 miles South from lake Mobutu Sese Seko, clear through to the edge of the
Shaba region. Retaining lush vegetation and highly fertile soils, this region is highly populated.

What Is The Conflict In The Unbearable Lightness Of Being
Although there is no one way to live, in times of peril, there is oftentimes only a single way to
survive. Tomas, the fatally flawed protagonist in The Unbearable Lightness of Being, is constructed
around the predicament that with only one life, choices are made insignificant and meaningless.
This is devastating for Tomas wife, Tereza, who attempts to condone his carefree bachelor ways,
but ultimately feels degraded by Tomas infidelity. Although Tereza willingly fled Czechoslovakia
before the Russian invasion with Tomas, six months afterwards, Tereza is convinced that she has
become a burden on her husband and returns unexpectedly to Prague. Her abrupt departure induces
Tomas midlife crisis as he is unsure if he should follow. Due to the... Show more content on

After Tomas and Tereza are acquainted by haphazardous events, Tereza arrives in Prague with
the sole intention of reuniting with him. Retrospecting on Tereza s arrival with her heavy
suitcase, symbolic of the heavy burden that she would impose on his life, Tomas compares his
wife to be to an abandoned child. He justifies loving her noting, If Polybus hadn t taken in the
young Oedipus, Sophocles wouldn t have written his most beautiful tragedy (11). However, this
is in violation of Tomas code that in happy romantic relationships, neither person can claim
ownership of the other. Likewise, Tereza, after taking ownership of Tomas, seeks no identity
beyond her relationship with him, as he alone is able to unify her body and soul. The first time
they met, Tereza felt her soul rushing up through the blood vessels and pores to show itself to
him (48). For this reason, her husband s infidelity is more detrimental than jealousy, as Tereza s
individuality is in the hands of a man who equates her to other women. Moreover, Kundera
extends the allusion to Sophocles Oedipus Rex later in the novel through one of Tereza s
traumatic dreams in which she has been buried while Tomas has been with other women. When
Tomas returns, he attempts to remove the dirt from his wife s eyes, which prompts Tereza to
respond, I can t see anyway. I have holes instead of eyes (227). This

Anime Essay
Anime Anime is the Japanese take on the word animation . It represents the Japanese style of
animating cartoons. However, not all anime is for children. Majority imported to America is aimed

Usually it s a helpless, victimized, female character that ends up falling madly in love with the
hero. Kagero, a female ninja, best fits the description of this character. Because she is a ninja, she
s not as helpless as some might imagine the damsel in distress character to be, but she is constantly
victimized (helplessly raped twice by two different enemy demons) and is saved a countless
number of times by
Jubei. Sure enough, in the end, she falls in love with Jubei, the only man to ever steal her heart.
The third main character type is the enemy . The head antagonist, usually male, is a hideous
monster in horror anime, and in action anime almost always possesses supernatural powers. He
seems much more invincible and usually batters in the climax, but he always has a weakness for
the hero to capitalize on. He is impure, immoral, unethical and, in short, evil. His heart has no
remorse for his actions and for those suffering from them. The enemy, like the hero, is unknown to
us and is gradually introduced throughout the story. The enemy of this story is Himuro Gemma.
Gemma is a bisexual, immortal human with the ability to reincarnate himself. In his early days, he
caused Jubei and his friends to turn on each other, forcing Jubei to kill them. He poisons an entire
village, and with the help of his henchmen, plans to take over an already dark army of ninjas.

The Pros And Cons Of An Entrepreneur
Entrepreneur is the individual who starts a business with new products or services with lots of
freedom and faces different risk of failures. On the other hand intrapreneur is the individual who
works under the entrepreneur as an employee. Though the intrapreneur is given the authority of
creating new product, he does not faces any risk of failure of generating revenue and profit by
those products.
According to a research body entrepreneur bears all risk of a business because he collects necessary
resources or capital from various sources and also gives guarantees to repay whereas the
intrapreneur does not bears any risk because he does not have any responsibility to raise fianace
and to repay those (Clarysse and Kiefer, 2011). Another research body says that an entrepreneur has

During the time of generating idea of new products or services or formation of the firm, an
entrepreneur must think about the culture of a country. To establish or to operate any business in a
country the entrepreneur must follow that country s culture. Without considering the culture if he
produces any product, that product will not be sold in the market (Diederichs, 2008). And usually
the company will make loss. Research department says that, culture is a sympathetic part of the
consumers. Though they sometime accept other culture, most of the time they try to follow it.
Another argument is the entrepreneur should government s rule and regulation to launch a business
firm. Governments have different rules and regulation to different kinds of business such as tax
regulation, laws for employee, etc. So, to launch a business entrepreneur must follow the
government s rules and regulations. James Dyson has followed government s rules when he

science. Trace either the most relevant technology or scientific assumption from 1865 to 1945
showing how it changed or why it stayed the same from the Civil War for the end of World War II.

America has faced several major wars including the Civil War, World War Iand II. These wars have
cause great advances in technology and different techniques of fighting. The Civil War was based
on men fighting men with muskets and swords as the only fighting tool, this war cause over

Anthony Herman Fokker, a Dutch American engineer designed guns that would fire between
the spaces of the propeller. With a timer a plane became the first combat plane in 1915 before
that time planes were used for bombing and observations of troops. By the end of World War I
both sides had aircraft that was capable of flying to altitudes of 25,000 feet and speeds of 155
miles per hour. This was an amazing feat for wartime pressures for development. After the war
commercial air service was started and planes were being used for the transportation mail. The
United States Postal Service supported the development and Donald Douglas and Boeing started
production of planes for transportation of people and goods. In 1941 there were fewer than 300
planes in service when Japan attacked Pearl Harbor. The United States had a very weak airforce.
Production had to be increased rapidly, by the end of the war aviation companies were making
almost 50,000 planes a year. The jet engine and pressurized cabin were developed which allowed
planes to fly higher and faster. America focused their attention on the development of fighters and
bombers. Aircraft allowed troops to be relocated to the front lines very quickly. Japan attacked
America at a very good time. We were battling out of a depression that caused the development
and production of the airplane to slow because of a lack of funding. Once the word of the

Enslavement of the Individual in Capitalist Society as...
Bourgeois society enslaves the individual such that any attempt to transcend one s environmental
limitations results in self destruction. Nietzsche slave morality theory is applicable to the works
of Dostoyevsky, Mann, and Ibsen, and posits that an individual uprising under a bourgeois blanket
leads to reactivity, not activity. Though each man calls for individuals values to be raised in some
way (in the case of Nietzsche, by an Гјber mensch), each understands the impossibility of that
under bourgeoisrule. Marxargues that the only way to restore individuality is for the proletariat to
band together and overthrow the society that hinders its freedom. Only then will slave morality be
erased as individuals forge active change.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This proposes that an individual is allowed to impose his own values on society. However,
Raskolnikov s actions imply that he still operates out of a slave mentality. He eats his soup in a
mechanical sort of way (1, 6, p.86), and in the murder of the landlady he almost mechanically
struck her (1, 6, p.96). The crime seals Raskolnikov s isolation, which is necessary for an
extraordinary man to set himself apart from the rest and defeat his slave impulses; he tells his
mother and sister, I want to be alone. Better forget me altogether (4, 3, p.328). However, even the
self sufficient Svidrigaylov demonstrates a human requirement for the company of others,
indicating his own lavishness: And I shall be your slave‹for the rest of my life (6, 5, p.506).
Further examples refute Raskolnikov s theory. He wonders if man isn t really a beast‹man in
generalЕ the whole human raceЕ then all the rest is just prejudice, just imagined fears (1, 2, p.44).
Raskolnikov s, or any single man s, inability to rise out of the morass of bourgeois complacency is
pointed out by a bar patron, who asks Would you kill the old woman yourself?ЕIf you are not
ready to do it yourself, it s not a question of justice at all (1, 6, p.86). The Raskolnikov does
eventually kill her by himself, the important idea presented here is that no single person has the
strength or will to combat bourgeois morality by himself; rather, there

The Role Of Socialism In Upton Sinclair s The Jungle
Upton Sinclair s novel, The Jungle, portrays the plight of immigrants in the meatpacking district of
Chicago. The idealistic American Dream seems to be that of a fiction novel as Jurgis Rudkas loses
his way in the corrupt streets of Chicago. Although, Upton Sinclair reveals that it is not the fault in
America, but the faults of capitalism that is the source of pain for immigrants. The Jungle, in nature
depicts the harsh realities of immigrant life, however it is fictional in that Upton Sinclairshapes the
outcome of the novel and where the blame should be placed for the horrific events of Jurgis Rudkas
new life. Consistently Upton Sinclair uses socialism as the quintessential answer to the survival of
the fittest economy of the United States.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The forceful and persuasive nature of the novel is very compelling to sympathize with
immigrants when typically they are seen as less for not being American. This momentum would
last him some time, however he would not achieve the same success as a writer again. Simply,
The Jungle is irreplaceable in its effect on American society; informing the people to the
conditions of immigrant workers, the ideals of socialism, and the unsanitary meat in the factories.
This was achieved through the description of the winters, the tragic loses, the deconstruction of
capitalism, the blame for turmoil, and Jurgis Rudkas new life purpose through the socialist party.
Seen throughout the novel, Upton Sinclair s bias makes the novel truly unique and contributes to
its success, even if it was not the success he desired. He would continue to write several novels,
most of which use the same rhetoric in favor of socialism. As for Sinclair, he believed the socialist
party was not just a happy ending to a political fiction novel, but could be the answer to the plight
of immigrants and those suffering under capitalism. The Jungle outlines the harsh realities of life
and the toll it takes until the enlightenment brought by socialism. Though socialism is not as
popular today, the ending of the novel would bring any reader relief in that, at least for one
immigrant, the suffering might end and that all the suffering had a purpose. Socialism was the
answer for Upton Sinclair, Jurgis Rudkas, and other Americans, however, it was never the answer

The Most Monumental Undertaking Of Modern Philosophy
Control is an often acknowledged concept in ancient philosophy, discussed by the likes of Epicurus
and Epictetus, among others. Often, control is articulated in regards to one s relationship with
others and their personal actions. Though the amount of things one can personally control is
limited, these things are paramount and essential for living a life that is at peace and that is
tranquil. I will be arguing that one s choices/actions are the most monumental undertaking of which
can be controlled, and is the ultimate contributor to happiness and equanimity. This state, known as
ataraxia , should be used as a constant guidance and reminder, perpetuated by virtue, of which
decisions are correct or incorrect.
Ataraxia may be characterized as a state containing balanced contentment and repose, particularly of
the mental variety. Though many philosophers, including Epicurus, Epictetus, and Sextus
Empiricus address this said state of unperturbed ness, their interpretations of how to reach ataraxia
differ slightly, though all may be applied to my argument. In his The Skeptic Way, Sextus
Empiricus discusses the process of achievement of ataraxia through differentiating between natural
goods and bads. When one accepts that what is good and bad cannot be distinguished definitely,
they must choose whether to continue pursuit of this inquiry or accept an always indefinite
solution. This choice determines the path traveled either to tranquility or agitation.

Lying In The Truman Show
The Truman Show was an odd show because the idea of the plot could potentially be in effect at
this very moment. Just like how The Matrix could also be in effect, but this show seemed very
creepy to me because of the plain lie to Truman. One thing that hits a button within me is the
whole concept of lying. I don t know if I was lied to once when I was young and how it made me
feel never changed, or if it is the idea that the truth for whatever reason can t reveal itself is such
a bullshit idea. I think that even if the truth is so bad the person still deserves to know even if
not knowing would be in their best interest. If we shelter an individual of how bad life can really
be then when the time comes for them to actually experience life first hand then it would be worse
and potentially too late for them to learn. Also, if the person or people who are lying think it
would be in the best interest of the person they re lying to, I think it is that person s right to
determine what the best interest of their own life and how they handle the situation is just as
important as the bad situation is.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Argumentative Essay On Climate Change
Climate change is the global issue of a rising temperature due to human activity. As a result of
the rising temperature the polar icebergs are melting. This is putting more water into the ocean
and causing sea levels to rise. Because of the higher sea levels many coastal communities are
flooding. With Massachusetts being a coastal state this could majorly affect us. Given with the
current trends of one eighth of an inch per year (NOAA), a good portion of Massachusetts could
be flooded soon. But how soon? And how will it progress over time? This is what we hope to find
out with our project. (Kique Ruiz)
Paragraph 1: According to Merriam Webster dictionary, climatechange is the changes in earth s

climate due to Co2. Climate change is rather controversial with the question that is the recent spike

Tobacco And Radiation Cause Cancer Essay

People wonder why they have been diagnosed with cancer, they also wonder how it could have
happened. Some people don t understand why tobacco and radiation cause cancer, and that is what
is answered in this essay. The smoke that emits from smoking tobacco holds a radioactive chemical
called polonium 210. Additionally, X rays and gamma rays are recognized as human carcinogens.
As a result, smoking causes DNA damage which leads to cancer! To what extent does tobacco and
radiation cause cancer?
Polonomium 210 Major tobacco industries found that polonium 210 was in tobacco for more
than 40 years and tried to remove the substance but failed. Studies have detected polonium 210 in
the airways of smokers, where they are concentrated in hot spots. They remain there because other
chemicals in cigarette smoke damage the body s cleaning systems, which would normally get rid
of gunk in our airways (Yong). In the end, polonium 210 forms up and disturbs nearby cells to
larger amounts of alpha radiation. This leads to far larger and lengthier exposures to ... Show more

Use Of Dynamic Second Price Auctions
The popular use of dynamic second price auctions such as Ebay seem to be the favoured output for
Internet based online transactions, and have triggered a wide interest in understanding how
individuals behave in such environments. Online auctions are services in which individuals sell or
bid for products or facilities via the internet. They facilitate interactions between buyers and sellers
in different locations and allow for individuals to purchase items from the comfort of their own
homes. However, such interactions can lead to psychological and physiological responses that
trigger reactions and actions which in turn can lead to irrational and uncharacteristic bidding
behaviour by buyers. There appears to be two types of bidders;... Show more content on

The volumes of research on the endowment effect have all been based on cases where the seller
has unambiguous physical or legal possession of the item in question. In connecting ownership
and its effects on valuations with online bidding behavior, it is possible that even without a legal
claim on an item, high bidders could develop a feeling of ownership during the period of time
when they are the highest bidders, leading to changes in valuation similar to those brought about
by true ownership The use of pictures allows bidders to fantasize about owning the product, and
makes it appear more real especially when they are lead bidder. Having a money back guarantee
increases the trust between consumer and seller which can then influence bidding behaviour. This
guarantee can decrease inhibitions in the buyers which means that it is more likely bids will
increase in amount due to the ability to send the item back. This may cause bidders to extend their
intended maximum bid in order to win the item, rather than thinking about the consequences of
bidding higher amounts at the time. Certification of product ensures that the explicit risk of buying
an item over the internet is reduced, which could therefore lead to consumers bidding more.
Indirect quality indicators include the use of a minimum bid and a Buy It Now price which may
reveal information about the quality of the product as they reveal the values imposed

The Spectrophotometric Determination of an Equilibrium...
The Spectrophotometric Determination of an Equilibrium Constant.
Abstract:
The report presents determination of equilibrium constant for the formation of a complex ion
FeSCN2+. This was accomplished using a colorimeter to measure absorbance of some known
concentration solutions in order to generate the calibration curve. The equation of the graph was
used to compute the equilibrium concentrations of the reactants and products, needed to calculate
the equilibrium constant for the reaction. I. Introduction:
The purpose of the experiment is to determine the equilibrium constant for the formation of a
complex ion iron (III) thiocyanate (FeSCN2+). This ion is formed in the reaction of iron (III) ion

Appeal Essay
This letter in its entirety is meant to explain my unsatisfactory GPA and rather unappealing
transcript in relation to receiving admittance into Trinity university. I understand you re busy
but if you would take time to read my appeal I am sure it will help explain why my grades are not
up to what they should be as well as what steps need to be taken for me to be granted admittance
into Trinity. I ask that you excuse the length of the letter as I indeed have a lot to say. To begin
my explanation I have to start at the beginning of my college career where I attended a Christian

I once again was optimistic until I heard the news in early January that the entire coaching staff
at Georgia Southern left and moved to Tulane. This was heartbreaking due to the fact that I
already was enrolled in courses and paid fees and could not follow them to Tulane. I still had
hope however since I knew I might have a chance with the new coaches. Unfortunately I was
wrong about that as well, due to the fact that the new coaches never gave me a chance to be on
the team and I was once again faced with a dilemma if I should just quit football and move closer
to home. The situation wasn t all bad however, the new coaches at Georgia Southern told me
they would give me an opportunity in the next fall semester of 2016. This in turn gave me hope
again and I began to feverishly workout and study and I ended up raising my GPA. As the next
semester rolled around I was anxious to get on the football team and began living out my dream,
but once again I was faced with another setback. The new staff informed me that they didn t
have any open roster spots. With this news I began to realize that due to the fact that they didn t

Charlemagne and the Saxon War
Every historian interprets the past differently and with distinctive perspectives, resulting in many
sides to one story. Often the reader must decide which perspective is more logical, likely, or
coherent. Recounting one war took a lot of time and effort because of the necessity to include all
sides of the story. Becher, Barbero, Collins and Backman have approached the life of Charlemagne
with different points of view; however, Barbero seems to have the strongest argument for the
cause of the Saxon War. The other historians were less willing to see the Saxon war as a religious
war. The life of Charlemagne was interesting to historians because it was filled with many vigorous
wars that he fought including the infamous Saxon War. From the... Show more content on

Even with the threats of destruction, the stubbornness of the Saxons continued. When war began,
the Saxons sacrificed their prisoners of war to their gods, and the Franks killed anyone unwilling to
be baptized. Eventually, there was no place that was safe and massacres had begun that were
inspired by the Bible: Charlemagne wanted to act like a true king of Israel. The Amalekites had
dared raise their hand to betray God s people, and it was therefore right that every last one of them
should be exterminated (47). Charlemagne then imposed a law saying anyone who offended the
Christian religion and its clergy would be put to death or forced to convert. The final act of the war
was the deportation of the Saxons and granting their land to close by Slavic community.
On the other hand, the Einhard came up with a different instigation of the war. He did not relate it
to Christianity as strongly as Barbero did. His view of the cause of the war was because the peace
between the people was not sustaining. This eventually led to the Franks refusing to make any
comebacks, but instead going to war with the Saxons. This war was thought to be a thirty three
year war with the advantage for the Franks. However, Einhard does state that the war was based on
a religious disagreement, but only slightly. The Saxons were conquered many times over the years

The Concept of Change ... and Changing Perspectives
Changing perspectives...Change is a process, a transition or an alteration that affects different
aspects of our life. As a result the forces of change can seriously affect the attitudes, beliefs and
behaviors of individuals. The affects of change can have a positive or negative outcome. These
affects can be viewed in all three of the texts that we have studied for the Area of Study. Changeis a
part of life and whether or not we like that aftermath of the particular aspect of the change it will

In John s Case his changing perspective of himself was a negative one.
Change. Such an uncomplicated word, yet so hard to define. The word itself possibly prevents it
from being defined because every person sees change as a different thing, so therefore there are
possibly around 6 billion definitions of change in the world. The song At Seventeen by song writer
Janis Ian relates to changing perspectives in her life as a seventeen year old girl. At the start of
the song in verse one she describes a girl at seventeen who thinks she is ugly and doesn t fit in
with the popular group. She wants to have everything that the popular girls have. She soon
relishes that she will never have this social status and she starts to dream up boys that call her
up and ask her to dance. The end of verse two and the beginning of the third verse Janis Ian is
reflecting back on those terrible years when she was seventeen. She was once an ugly outcast
who had no social standing and now all the small town folk look at her and she now exceeds
their expectations they have no love left, they are lonely, and now Janis has everything, she has
won the game of life and love. The lyrics of At Seventeen by Janis Ian are emotional and
reflective as opposed to telling a story, Janis is intensely outpouring her inner most personal
thoughts and feelings. Both Josie and Janis Ian s perspective of themselves change as they grow
older or more mature. In Looking for Alibrandi Josie

The Importance Of Environmental Conservation In Colorado
Environmental conservation, particularly waste diversion, is an important social problem for
the reason that it not only affects people but the planet as a whole. The shocking reality is that
the United States produces the greatest amount of waste in the world, while it only makes up
five percent of the overall world population as stated in Recycle Across America (as cited by
Worldwatch Institute). When people think of Colorado, they probably tend to think of its
capital Denver, however, when I think of Colorado, I think of the city Boulder due to its zero
waste initiatives. Boulder is leading the initiative to recycle and reduce waste while Denver is
the big city and capital of Colorado and it only has a diversion rate of nearly twenty percent ( We
Are Zero Waste, 2017). This means that less than twenty percent of used products are composted
or recycled while the other eighty plus percent goes to landfill. Boulder is leading the initiative
with a diversion rate of thirty nine percent as of 2015 and has a company called Eco Cycle and
other companies similar which handle recyclingand volunteer at events throughout Colorado to
make events a green event ( We Are Zero Waste, 2017). Based on the Factfinder Census, it is
important to note that there are a few key reasons as to why Denver has a lower waste diversion
rate than Boulder. To elaborate, Denver has an estimated 2016 population of 693,060 while Boulder
has only an estimated population of 322,226 (United States

The Nuclear Bomb Of Hiroshima And Nagasaki
Who is good and who is Evil? Many of us go through life thinking that whatever we do must be
what is good, never questioning authority and blindly following a government that is thought to
be incapable of doing evil. After World War II, many Americans felt a sense of nationalism. They
were proud of the fact that their military destroyed Nazi Germany and Imperialist Japan. However
this euphoric patriotism can often blind the holder. In August of 1945, the United States Military
dropped two nuclear bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. There were noble reasons for dropping
the bombs, but surely destroying two entire cities questions the integrity of the United States. So
again I ask, who is good and who is evil? After the events of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the United
States was eager to learn more about the impacts of nuclear devices on the environment. The United
States set up several nuclear bomb tests on the Marshall Islandsin which they properly planned for.
However one test, code named Operation Castle, went horribly wrong. Scientists involved in the
test claim they expected an explosive yield of four to six megatons, but instead a yield of fifteen
resulted. For reference, this is one thousand times greater than the yields of both the Hiroshima and
the Nagasaki nuclear bombs (Huard). Many people believe this was merely a lapse in judgement,
however I believe there is evidence that the United States government intentionally created a
disaster in order to study the effects of

I was surprised that the author felt the need to tell students to avoid stereotyping their professors.

Comparsion Of The Correlation Between Neurons And Perception
Synopsis
Neurons are responsible primarily for their intended sense. However, neurons can sometimes be
bimodal, meaning that they respond to two different senses. Primary sensory areas contain neurons
that respond to only one sense. However, some primary sensory areas have outlier senses, and is
not exclusive. Perception is defined as the brain s interpretation of sensory information. However,
that s not all, since expectations also play a role in how the brain perceives the world. Therefore, it
can be said that perception is a combination of sensory information and expectation. Helmholtz
stated that previous experiences act in conjunction with present sensations to produce a perceptual
image. Expectation dominates perception when there is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are two types of sensory information: ambiguous sensory information, which is when
expectation dominates perception, and clear sensory information, which is when sensory
information dominates perception. When sensory information dominates perception, neurons are
being fired in response to the stimulus. However, when expectation dominates perception, how do
the neurons that are being fired in our brain differ? In this case, since perception is based on our
past experiences, what parts of the brain would there be the highest frequency of neuron activity?
Taking this question one step further, how do the neurons that are being fired in our brain differ
when ambiguous sensory information is present without expectation? What areas of our brain are
most active when this occurs, since we have no expectation and there is also not enough sensory
information present to activate the receptors? This is important to know in order to further
understand the difference between how sensory information and expectation impact human
perception in our daily lives. This would further improve our understanding of how illusions work
and how they impact our

Significance Of The European Union
The European Union has grown from its humble beginnings of the European Coal and Steel
Community (ECSC) into a complex system of governance within Europe and it has become a key
figure internationally. The issue is whether the European Union (EU) has in this time grown into a
supranational form of governance with the establishment of treaties, or have the nation states stayed
in control. I am going to argue that the EU s supranational qualities are the allocation of shared
common interests among the nation states that compose it. It has been shown by history that the
power ultimately lies in the member state as evidenced by the need for unanimity in passing the
treaties that mandate the EU and earlier conceptions of it have resulted in the... Show more content

These issues were resolved allowing the member states to move forward with ratification, however,
there was a vast opposition to the Constitutional Treaty. The EU and the supporters of the treaty
failed to properly explain the Constitutional Treaty, causing it to be denied in France and the
Netherlands. The rejection of the treaty in certain states was caused by globalization, which was
leading to unemployment causing them to be alienated and frustrated, however, some of their
complaints were already apart of the European Union, so it shows the nation state has the power to
accept an idea, and then decline it at a later date as seen also by Brexit. The Lisbon Treaty stated
that the power of the European Union is given by the member states in the form of treaties, which
allows the member states to have several rights one of them being secession. The United Kingdom

1.What are the terrestrial planets?
The terrestrial planets are Mercury, Venus, Earth, and Mars. These planets are composed primarily
of silicate rocks with structures consisting of a central metallic core, mostly iron, with a
surrounding silicate mantle.
2.How were Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune formed?
Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune were formed by different types of rock and frozen materials
(water, ammonia, and methane). These materials were once planetesmals, which formed from the
rocky, metallic solid materials that were able to survive the collapse of the solar nebula which
formed our solar system.

Venus surface is made up of low lying volcanic plains. As we know, Earth has volcanoes. Mars
has two large volcanic systems, with the largest, the Tharsis region, stretching across 8,000
kilometers of the planet. Volcanoes exist due to the buildup of pressure in the outer core. This
forces the molten core up to the surface of a planet, in the form of lava.
4.What are the characteristics of the inner planets? How do these vary from the outer planets?
Inner planets all contain a core, mantle, and crust. These planets are very dense and rocky. In
comparison to outer planets, inner planets are smaller, denser, and rockier.
5.What evidence is there to support that planets exist outside of our Solar System?
The discovery of other stars in early stages of formation support the fact that planets exist outside
of our solar system. These stars, surrounded by disks of gas and dust, are called proplyds.
According to astronomers, these disks are like that which the solar nebula was believed to be
like, providing a good source of evidence of other planets. Extrasolar planets, or planets outside of

The Effect Of Plyometric Exercises On The Body s Power...
Plyometrics or plyos for short refer to the exercises in which muscles exert a maximum force
over a short period of time. The goal of these plyometric exercises are to increase one s power and
force output. At the physiological level, the plyometric exercises work by combining the eccentric
phase, followed by a rapid shortening of muscleor the concentric phase. It specifically induces
more motor units to be recruited, the strength of the neural impulses for reflexes to increase, and
adjusts the elastic properties of both muscle tissue and connective tissue. This movement from
muscle extension to rapid contraction allows for an athlete, weightlifter, or an ordinary Average
Joe to incorporate a more explosive mentality to their workouts. In fact, many of the training
regiments out there incorporate some sort of plyometric exercise because it successfully
improves strength, power, coordination, and athletic performance; which is why it is as curious
to researchers as they want to discover how it truly works and what muscles it targets. For a group
of researchers from the Stellenbosch University Department of Physiological Sciences in South
Africa, it was the main discussion for their research. Doctor Filippo Macaluso, Ashwin W. Isaacs,
MSC, and Doctor Kathryn H. Myburgh in their research article entitled Preferential Type II Muscle
Fiber Damage from Plyometric Exercise , they experimented the effects that plyometric exercises

Maus Elements
Art Spiegelman s Maus is a famous, Pulitzer Prize winning tale about the journey of a Jewish
Holocaust survivor. Despite the amount of similar storylines, Spiegelman s creativity with the
normal elements of comics has won him high praise. This analysis will focus on Spiegelman s
unique twist on icons, layouts, diegesis, abstraction, and encapsulation as displayed by Maus. Icons
are pictures that are used to embody a person, place, thing, or idea. McCloud hammers this concept
home by drawing random things, such as a cow (McCloud, pg. 26), but reminds the reader that it is
technically not a real cow. It is just an image.

Additionally, by including less detail, Spiegelman makes his characters easier to relate to, or as
McCloud references, more universal. After Vladek recalls the hanging of a few of his associates,
Spiegelman illustrates a very plain, bleak image of him mourning their loss in present day. The
image consists of the most basic character features, making it effortless for the reader to mentally
input their face on Vladek s. Overall, this amplification through simplification (McCloud), aids the
reader in feeling the emotion of the character, finding a deeper connection to the story as a whole,
and can reveal universal truths. The layout of a comic is the relationship between one panel to the
rest of the panels in the sequence, the page, and the rest of the book. Spiegelman constructs the
layout of his panels to bring his story to life. When Vladek is telling the story about the mandatory
registration of all Jews, which led to the disappearance of many close friends (pg. 91), Spiegelman
places Vladek at the bottom right hand corner of the page. This establishes the imagery of the boxes
weighing down on him in present time, as he appears to be struggling to get through the story and
contain his emotions. Furthermore, when Anja s father is telling Vladek that the Germans intend

Isaiah s Testament Prophets Of The Bible
Isaiah is known as one of the greatest Old Testament prophets of the Bible. Isaiah s name means
The Salvation of the Lord . Isaiah lived in Jerusalem. In the book of Isaiah, Isaiah warned his own
people in Judah, Israel, and other nations of the many things that God instructed his followers not
to do. In his Biblical account, Isaiah states that he received visions from God. He states that these
visions were prophecies which were to come true. In his many prophecies, Isaiah foretells of one
significant prophecy, which is the prophecy of Jesus. Isaiah specifically wrote about a child who
would have no human father. This child would be God s faithful servant. Isaiah said that this
child would become king and as king, this child would justly rule. As king, the Holy Spirit
would rest upon. Isaiah told that the people would not accept him as God s servant. Isaiah told
his people that when this child was grown, he would die for us as a sacrifice so that God will
forgive us. Then, God s servant would live again. Everyone must trust him. God will forgive the
people who confess their evil deeds to God. So, God himself will rescue his people.
Jewish tradition holds Isaiah lived under the reigns of four kings of Judah Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz,
and Hezekiah. During his life, Isaiah was said to have been married to a prophetess, with whom he
had two sons. The two sons were Shear Jashub, whose names means a remnant shall return , and

Comparison Of Genesis, Judeo-Christian Creation, And Hindu...
Throughout the world, there exists thousands of cultures and myths, separated from each other by
thousands of miles and geographic barriers, by some means these cultures share countless symbols.
To understand why the Judeo Christian myth of Genesis, Shinto creation myth, and Hindu creation
myth and the Mahabharataare so comparable an individual must understand how these stories
formed and changed over time. Myths, originally told orally by storytellers were formed to explain
the world and beliefs of their respective individuals. One must also understand that if myths are
viewed literally the imagery is distinct but when examined figuratively the symbolism shown is
identical. It is evident that certain symbols and motifs transcend human... Show more content on

This fall supports a male dominated society in which women are subservient to men. In Genesis,
this fall occurs when Eve eats the fruit and humans are expelled from the garden, Therefore the
Lord God sent him forth from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from whence he was taken (
The Holy Bible , Genesis, 3.23). Furthermore, in Shinto myth when Izanami dies she becomes
enraged because Izanagi followed her to the underworld. Izanami screamed that she would ...
destroy a thousand of earth s inhabitants each day (Hartz 17). In the Hindu myths, women are
dangerous creations that prevent men from potentially overwhelming the gods. This can be seen
in the Mahabharata, a Hindu epic, ... women were created by the Grandsire Brahman ... There is
no creature more sinful, O son, than women. Woman is a blazing fire. She is the illusion, ... She
is the sharp edge of the razor. She is poison. She is a snake. She is fire. She is, verily, all these
united together ( Mahabharata , Anusasana Parva, 40). And, the role of women in subduing men is
also seen, Persons of the male sex, yielding to the power of Lust and Wrath, sought the
companionship of women ( Mahabharata , Anusasana Parva, 40). Strangely, women who are the
bringers of life become the bringers of death and

What Is The Tone In The Masque Of The Red Death
Masque of the Red Death by Edgar Allen Poe is about when a plague strikes a kingdom
somewhere in Europe. The Prince decides that he can protect himself from this plague by
securing himself in his castle. He believes that the plague won t harm him and that he can defeat
death. But he is not so fortunate at the end of the story. The three literary devices that will be
discussed are the symbol, tone, and theme. The Tone of Masque of the Red Death is more of a
darker atmosphere. At the beginning of the story, the author starts off like this The Red Death had
long devastated the country. No pestilence had ever been so fatal, or so hideous. Blood was it is

Starting off for the first symbol is The Red Death is symbolizing the plague and disease that is
taking place in the Kingdom. In the story The Red Death shows up the masquerade ball grabbing
everybody s attention. Poe tells us and now was acknowledged the presence of the Red Death.
He had come like a thief in the night. (394). No one would expect the Red Death to come in
especially the prince. Who thought that he would be safe in his big castle. The prince sends his
guards to run after the stranger, but the stranger gets away. The Prince gets away and the
stranger leads him to the seventh room which is the next symbol. The prince follows the
stranger into this room and the reason it symbolizes death because this is where he dies. Poe
describes this room as The seventh apartment was closely shrouded in black velvet tapestries
that hung all over the ceiling and down the walls, falling in heavy folds upon a carpet of the
same material and hue. But in this chamber only, the color of the windows failed to correspond
with the decorations. The panes here were scarlet a deep blood color. (393). So even though the
prince was all powerful he still couldn t keep himself safe from the

Overcoming Barriers For The Client During Treatment
It is important for a counselor to proper an action plan to overcome barriers for the client during
treatment. Counseling is not about taking and not taking the proper actions. When a client is
having barriers it is very important for the counselor to identify those barriers and set an action plan
to help client overcome the obstacles. The counselor should identify the principles for a well action
plan, discuss barriers that a client might encounter, outline intervention that will help with the
barriers, list of community resources that will help client if needit and outlined aftercare plan when
treatment is over.

For example, Tammy does not trust on men because in the past she has been cheated and has a
trust issue. She wants to work on her goal to trust on men but she noticed that there will be a lack
of time due to her ability with school and work. Another barrier that a client might interfere is lack
of motivation. For instance, Tammy lost the motivation to date men because she noticed all the
men are liars and they are not real. She has lost her motivation and is not interesting on working
on the goal. A client that is suffering from obesity might have a barrier with poor body image.
They do not believe they can lose weight because they have failed many times. Another barrier is
support; the client might not have the support that is need it. For example the client has social
skills issues and does not like to talk to anyone and only has a support of her counselor. Lastly, a
person that is suffering from guilt does not think they will be able accomplish their goal. For
instance, Anna has guilt that her husband divorces her because she did not fic her personal
problems and got in between with her marriage.
Counselor intervention that would help to overcome each barrier The counselor intervention that
would help the client overcome each barrier is helping client plan out their schedule. The counselor

High Achieving Student Growth Target
1. Principal Frank felt strongly that ranking a school higher solely for achieving the student growth
target over a school that actually met the AYP achievement targets was inequitable and misleading.
Do you agree or disagree with Principal Frank s perspective? In this scenario, I feel Principal Frank
frustration is justifiable due to the recent changes made to the school rankingsystem. Within the
text it indicated that Principal Frank had worked for seven years with his staff to implement best
practices in order to meet AYP (Shapiro Gross, 2013). This hard work prompted the school to be
ranked in the 25th percentile within the district, and due to it s high achieving reputation required a
special admissions lottery (Shapiro ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
3. Principal Frank questions the efficacy of the NCLB accountability system. Compare and contrast
the use of AYP ratings compared with individual student growth rankings. Which might be the best
way to go in terms of the students, parents, and the community?
AYP requires that students levels of reading and math proficiency are tested in grades through 8
and in one grade in high school (Editorial Projects in Education Research Center, 2011, p.1).
Results are then compared to prior performance levels, and state determined AYP standards, to
determine if the school has met AYP (Editorial Projects in Education Research Center, 2011).
In order to achieve AYP, 95% of students must participate in testing, and 95% must reach minimum
annual targets (Editorial Projects in Education Research Center, 2011). In addition, 95% of students
in subgroups for disadvantaged students, students with disabilities, ELL, and ethnic groups must
meet the measurable annual objectives. In contrast, individual student growth rankings do not
employ specific benchmarks to establish a school s performance. If Superintendent Hart is
employing a simple growth model each students scores will be compared to the previous years.
The downside of this is if a student did not take the test they will not be aggregated into the
schools growth calculation. I do not feel this case student clearly explained how poverty levels are

The Things You Are Covered About Careers In Class
This essay is about all the things we covered about careers in class. It is also going to be abe about
how i see my future and what career i want. A resume is something you make in order to get a
job. You write your experiences and skills. It helps by showing the boss of the job you re
applying at the skills you have. I think job resumes are a good thing and a bad thing. I think it s
a good thing because you can show all your past accomplishments and your experiences. I also
think it s a bad thing because people can lie about so many things just to get a job. A cover letteris a
letter that you send with your resume to wherever you are applying a job for. A cover letter just
explaining why you would be the right person for the job and just introducing yourself. It s helpful
by telling your (maybe) future boss a little about yourself, your background and why you... Show

I used want to be a professional dancer or a dance teacher. Then it would be like hair stylist, a
doctor, lawyer, house designer, or fashion designer. I would personally love to be a fashion designer
but it s a very difficult career to get somewhere. You have to be very god and get noticed by
someone famous, if you get noticed by someone famous then you most likely made it but it s very
difficult to get there. Another career i am interested in is a lawyer. But in order to be a lawyer you
have to be ready to speak in front of a lot of people and be comfortable and confident with it. I get
stage fright so i m not sure being a lawyer is right for me. But on the other hand i argue very well. I
believe you should do a career that you love and enjoy because if you don t and you don t enjoy
your career your just gonna be miserable. It is important to have a job the pays well but it is just
as important to have a job you

The Battle Of The Confederate Army
William Thomas was 36 and the owner of a plantation in Virginia near Norfolk. He had a wife, two
daughters, and a son who he intended to pass the plantation on to just as he father had to him.
Following the events of Fort Sumter, he elected to join the Confederate army to defend against
what he saw as the Union s invasion.
April 20, 1861 Plantation near Norfolk, VirginiaThe Yanks to the north have the nerve declare
war, and a blockade no less, against us over us taking what is rightfully ours! Fort Sumter is part
of South Carolina and therefore the property of the Confederacy. Those Union soldiers had no
right to refuse handing it over. They claim it was an act of aggression, I say we were just doing
what was necessary to take what was rightfully ours. I won t stand by while Yanks invade our
land and our homes and try to tell us how we should live our lives. Tomorrow, I will leave for
Richmond to join the Confederate Army. I will leave the plantation in my son s charge. I have
taught him how to manage it for when he inherits it himself. With luck, he will be able to manage it
at his own discretion without a bunch of bureaucrats forcing their way into his business.
April 25, 1861 Richmond, VirginiaI have arrived in Richmond and have enlisted. They eagerly
accepted me into the ranks as the need for soldiers is high. There has been talk that some may be
conscripted to fill the need.
April 26, 1861 Richmond , Virginia I have been issued my equipment. It

Chicago Economic Crisis
Over recent decades, much of South America has seen economic hardship, decline, and even crisis.
However, the ongoing economic crisis in Venezuela is an especially notable case which requires
pragmatic and feasible solutions. Many assert that the current crisis, which has its roots in
corruption and over dependency on oil, is best solved by economic diversification. Others have
argued that the best solution is to request foreign aid, such as that from the International Monetary
Fund. In spite of this, a combination of history, economics, and logic would indicate that the best
solution is to curb the government s excessive control of the economy.
The problem is largely rooted in over dependency on oil, which was exacerbated when former
president ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In depth analysis of economic data indicates that economic diversification is a shallow solution that
fails to completely address the underlying issues of government corruption and excessive regulation.
Furthermore, the devastating riots of the Caracazo show that the acceptance of foreign aid could
result in even more violence, once more failing to address any real issue. Ultimately, thorough
investigation of the problem reveals that a solution focused on loosening the government s grip on
the economy is most effective, especially when targeting price controls and currency

  • 3. The Privatization Of Foster Care In Reality, is the Privatization of Foster Care an Ethical Solution to the Dilemmas of the System? The foster care system in America is incredibly corrupt. There is no denying that. America has had issues with foster care since it began about 160 years ago. It first began completely privatized, and as the federacy found ways to fund it, it gradually became entirely public. Yet, there has consistently been problems with its operations. There have been multiple attempts in the government to mend the problem, or at least help. A lot of these solutions have been disasters because the foster care system is not continuously overseen and regulated. Children are abused both physically and mentally, and will often age out more damaged than when they first entered the system. There is one particular solution that has come to the surface: privatizing the system again. However, this has never really brought any light to the problem, and even makes situations worse. The privatization of foster care is not an ethical solution to the dilemmas of the system because of the increase of abuse, undeniable deaths, and insurmountable corruption. The public sector of the foster care system has issues with abuse, and the private sector is experiencing an even higher rate of abuse (Therolf). One reason that abuse, in both sectors, occurs is that the children are placed under the care of people who are not properly trained (Slattery). This lack of training often results in multiple types of abuse ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Tomas, the fatally flawed protagonist in The Unbearable Lightness of Being, is constructed around the predicament that with only one life, choices are made insignificant and meaningless. This is devastating for Tomas wife, Tereza, who attempts to condone his carefree bachelor ways, but ultimately feels degraded by Tomas infidelity. Although Tereza willingly fled Czechoslovakia before the Russian invasion with Tomas, six months afterwards, Tereza is convinced that she has become a burden on her husband and returns unexpectedly to Prague. Her abrupt departure induces Tomas midlife crisis as he is unsure if he should follow. Due to the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After Tomas and Tereza are acquainted by haphazardous events, Tereza arrives in Prague with the sole intention of reuniting with him. Retrospecting on Tereza s arrival with her heavy suitcase, symbolic of the heavy burden that she would impose on his life, Tomas compares his wife to be to an abandoned child. He justifies loving her noting, If Polybus hadn t taken in the young Oedipus, Sophocles wouldn t have written his most beautiful tragedy (11). However, this is in violation of Tomas code that in happy romantic relationships, neither person can claim ownership of the other. Likewise, Tereza, after taking ownership of Tomas, seeks no identity beyond her relationship with him, as he alone is able to unify her body and soul. The first time they met, Tereza felt her soul rushing up through the blood vessels and pores to show itself to him (48). For this reason, her husband s infidelity is more detrimental than jealousy, as Tereza s individuality is in the hands of a man who equates her to other women. Moreover, Kundera extends the allusion to Sophocles Oedipus Rex later in the novel through one of Tereza s traumatic dreams in which she has been buried while Tomas has been with other women. When Tomas returns, he attempts to remove the dirt from his wife s eyes, which prompts Tereza to respond, I can t see anyway. I have holes instead of eyes (227). This ... Sure enough, in the end, she falls in love with Jubei, the only man to ever steal her heart. The third main character type is the enemy . The head antagonist, usually male, is a hideous monster in horror anime, and in action anime almost always possesses supernatural powers. He seems much more invincible and usually batters in the climax, but he always has a weakness for the hero to capitalize on. He is impure, immoral, unethical and, in short, evil. His heart has no remorse for his actions and for those suffering from them. The enemy, like the hero, is unknown to us and is gradually introduced throughout the story. The enemy of this story is Himuro Gemma. Gemma is a bisexual, immortal human with the ability to reincarnate himself. By the end of World War I both sides had aircraft that was capable of flying to altitudes of 25,000 feet and speeds of 155 miles per hour. This was an amazing feat for wartime pressures for development. After the war commercial air service was started and planes were being used for the transportation mail. The United States Postal Service supported the development and Donald Douglas and Boeing started production of planes for transportation of people and goods. In 1941 there were fewer than 300 planes in service when Japan attacked Pearl Harbor. The United States had a very weak airforce. Production had to be increased rapidly, by the end of the war aviation companies were making almost 50,000 planes a year. The jet engine and pressurized cabin were developed which allowed planes to fly higher and faster. America focused their attention on the development of fighters and bombers. Aircraft allowed troops to be relocated to the front lines very quickly. Japan attacked America at a very good time. • 9. Enslavement of the Individual in Capitalist Society as... Bourgeois society enslaves the individual such that any attempt to transcend one s environmental limitations results in self destruction. Nietzsche slave morality theory is applicable to the works of Dostoyevsky, Mann, and Ibsen, and posits that an individual uprising under a bourgeois blanket leads to reactivity, not activity. Though each man calls for individuals values to be raised in some way (in the case of Nietzsche, by an Гјber mensch), each understands the impossibility of that under bourgeoisrule. Marxargues that the only way to restore individuality is for the proletariat to band together and overthrow the society that hinders its freedom. Only then will slave morality be erased as individuals forge active change.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This proposes that an individual is allowed to impose his own values on society. However, Raskolnikov s actions imply that he still operates out of a slave mentality. He eats his soup in a mechanical sort of way (1, 6, p.86), and in the murder of the landlady he almost mechanically struck her (1, 6, p.96). The crime seals Raskolnikov s isolation, which is necessary for an extraordinary man to set himself apart from the rest and defeat his slave impulses; he tells his mother and sister, I want to be alone. Better forget me altogether (4, 3, p.328). However, even the self sufficient Svidrigaylov demonstrates a human requirement for the company of others, indicating his own lavishness: And I shall be your slave‹for the rest of my life (6, 5, p.506). Further examples refute Raskolnikov s theory. He wonders if man isn t really a beast‹man in generalЕ the whole human raceЕ then all the rest is just prejudice, just imagined fears (1, 2, p.44). Raskolnikov s, or any single man s, inability to rise out of the morass of bourgeois complacency is pointed out by a bar patron, who asks Would you kill the old woman yourself?ЕIf you are not ready to do it yourself, it s not a question of justice at all (1, 6, p.86). The Raskolnikov does eventually kill her by himself, the important idea presented here is that no single person has the strength or will to combat bourgeois morality by himself; rather, there ... The idealistic American Dream seems to be that of a fiction novel as Jurgis Rudkas loses his way in the corrupt streets of Chicago. Although, Upton Sinclair reveals that it is not the fault in America, but the faults of capitalism that is the source of pain for immigrants. The Jungle, in nature depicts the harsh realities of immigrant life, however it is fictional in that Upton Sinclairshapes the outcome of the novel and where the blame should be placed for the horrific events of Jurgis Rudkas new life. The forceful and persuasive nature of the novel is very compelling to sympathize with immigrants when typically they are seen as less for not being American. This momentum would last him some time, however he would not achieve the same success as a writer again. Simply, The Jungle is irreplaceable in its effect on American society; informing the people to the conditions of immigrant workers, the ideals of socialism, and the unsanitary meat in the factories. This was achieved through the description of the winters, the tragic loses, the deconstruction of capitalism, the blame for turmoil, and Jurgis Rudkas new life purpose through the socialist party. Seen throughout the novel, Upton Sinclair s bias makes the novel truly unique and contributes to its success, even if it was not the success he desired. He would continue to write several novels, most of which use the same rhetoric in favor of socialism. As for Sinclair, he believed the socialist party was not just a happy ending to a political fiction novel, but could be the answer to the plight of immigrants and those suffering under capitalism. The Jungle outlines the harsh realities of life and the toll it takes until the enlightenment brought by socialism. Though socialism is not as popular today, the ending of the novel would bring any reader relief in that, at least for one immigrant, the suffering might end and that all the suffering had a purpose. • 11. The Most Monumental Undertaking Of Modern Philosophy Control is an often acknowledged concept in ancient philosophy, discussed by the likes of Epicurus and Epictetus, among others. Often, control is articulated in regards to one s relationship with others and their personal actions. Though the amount of things one can personally control is limited, these things are paramount and essential for living a life that is at peace and that is tranquil. I will be arguing that one s choices/actions are the most monumental undertaking of which can be controlled, and is the ultimate contributor to happiness and equanimity. This state, known as ataraxia , should be used as a constant guidance and reminder, perpetuated by virtue, of which decisions are correct or incorrect. Ataraxia may be characterized as a state containing balanced contentment and repose, particularly of the mental variety. Though many philosophers, including Epicurus, Epictetus, and Sextus Empiricus address this said state of unperturbed ness, their interpretations of how to reach ataraxia differ slightly, though all may be applied to my argument. In his The Skeptic Way, Sextus Empiricus discusses the process of achievement of ataraxia through differentiating between natural goods and bads. When one accepts that what is good and bad cannot be distinguished definitely, they must choose whether to continue pursuit of this inquiry or accept an always indefinite solution. This choice determines the path traveled either to tranquility or agitation. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Just like how The Matrix could also be in effect, but this show seemed very creepy to me because of the plain lie to Truman. One thing that hits a button within me is the whole concept of lying. I don t know if I was lied to once when I was young and how it made me feel never changed, or if it is the idea that the truth for whatever reason can t reveal itself is such a bullshit idea. I think that even if the truth is so bad the person still deserves to know even if not knowing would be in their best interest. If we shelter an individual of how bad life can really be then when the time comes for them to actually experience life first hand then it would be worse and potentially too late for them to learn. Also, if the person or people who are lying think it would be in the best interest of the person they re lying to, I think it is that person s right to determine what the best interest of their own life and how they handle the situation is just as important as the bad situation is.... Polonomium 210 Major tobacco industries found that polonium 210 was in tobacco for more than 40 years and tried to remove the substance but failed. Studies have detected polonium 210 in the airways of smokers, where they are concentrated in hot spots. They remain there because other chemicals in cigarette smoke damage the body s cleaning systems, which would normally get rid of gunk in our airways (Yong). The poem references the violent murder of Lizzie Borden s parents in Massachusetts, in 1892. Although Lizzie was accused of the crime, the Borden case went unsolved due to lack of evidence. The police reports say that Lizzie murdered her stepmother, Abby Durfree Gray Borden, then her father, Andrew Jackson Borden with an axe, and due to its unsolved status, the case has gained infamy over the years. Analysis Of The Book Honky By Dalton Conley Author and sociologist, Dalton Conley, is a Caucasian boy who grows up in a predominantly African American and Latino neighborhood in the Lower East Side of Manhattan during the 1970 s and 80 s. In his book, Honky, he tells us a unique view through a young boy s eyes uncovering the way in which individuals are perceived in social reality, and how some groups of people are classified. He also speaks about how some groups get better opportunities and privileges then others. This book is a very powerful autobiography, according to his book, written by, not your typical middle class white male. (prologue, p. xiii) He goes on to say that he is middle class, even though his parents didn t have any money and that he is a white boy, even though he grew up in an inner city housing project where mostly everyone was Black or Hispanic. Dalton speaks about his experience as a white boy exploring his definition of race and class and saying that, race and class are nothing more than a set of stories we tell ourselves to get through the world, to organize our reality. (prologue, p. xiv) He describes his childhood as a social science experiment, Find out what being middle class really means by raising a kid from a so called good family in a so called bad neighborhood. Use Of Dynamic Second Price Auctions The popular use of dynamic second price auctions such as Ebay seem to be the favoured output for Internet based online transactions, and have triggered a wide interest in understanding how individuals behave in such environments. Online auctions are services in which individuals sell or bid for products or facilities via the internet. They facilitate interactions between buyers and sellers in different locations and allow for individuals to purchase items from the comfort of their own homes. However, such interactions can lead to psychological and physiological responses that trigger reactions and actions which in turn can lead to irrational and uncharacteristic bidding behaviour by buyers. The volumes of research on the endowment effect have all been based on cases where the seller has unambiguous physical or legal possession of the item in question. In connecting ownership and its effects on valuations with online bidding behavior, it is possible that even without a legal claim on an item, high bidders could develop a feeling of ownership during the period of time when they are the highest bidders, leading to changes in valuation similar to those brought about by true ownership The use of pictures allows bidders to fantasize about owning the product, and makes it appear more real especially when they are lead bidder. Having a money back guarantee increases the trust between consumer and seller which can then influence bidding behaviour. This guarantee can decrease inhibitions in the buyers which means that it is more likely bids will increase in amount due to the ability to send the item back. This may cause bidders to extend their intended maximum bid in order to win the item, rather than thinking about the consequences of bidding higher amounts at the time. Certification of product ensures that the explicit risk of buying an item over the internet is reduced, which could therefore lead to consumers bidding more. The Amalekites had dared raise their hand to betray God s people, and it was therefore right that every last one of them should be exterminated (47). Charlemagne then imposed a law saying anyone who offended the Christian religion and its clergy would be put to death or forced to convert. The final act of the war was the deportation of the Saxons and granting their land to close by Slavic community. On the other hand, the Einhard came up with a different instigation of the war. He did not relate it to Christianity as strongly as Barbero did. His view of the cause of the war was because the peace between the people was not sustaining. This eventually led to the Franks refusing to make any comebacks, but instead going to war with the Saxons. This war was thought to be a thirty three year war with the advantage for the Franks. Many of us go through life thinking that whatever we do must be what is good, never questioning authority and blindly following a government that is thought to be incapable of doing evil. After World War II, many Americans felt a sense of nationalism. They were proud of the fact that their military destroyed Nazi Germany and Imperialist Japan. However this euphoric patriotism can often blind the holder. In August of 1945, the United States Military dropped two nuclear bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. There were noble reasons for dropping the bombs, but surely destroying two entire cities questions the integrity of the United States. So again I ask, who is good and who is evil? After the events of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the United States was eager to learn more about the impacts of nuclear devices on the environment. The United States set up several nuclear bomb tests on the Marshall Islandsin which they properly planned for. However one test, code named Operation Castle, went horribly wrong. Scientists involved in the test claim they expected an explosive yield of four to six megatons, but instead a yield of fifteen resulted. I am going to argue that the EU s supranational qualities are the allocation of shared common interests among the nation states that compose it. The goal of these plyometric exercises are to increase one s power and force output. At the physiological level, the plyometric exercises work by combining the eccentric phase, followed by a rapid shortening of muscleor the concentric phase. It specifically induces more motor units to be recruited, the strength of the neural impulses for reflexes to increase, and adjusts the elastic properties of both muscle tissue and connective tissue. This movement from muscle extension to rapid contraction allows for an athlete, weightlifter, or an ordinary Average Joe to incorporate a more explosive mentality to their workouts. In fact, many of the training regiments out there incorporate some sort of plyometric exercise because it successfully improves strength, power, coordination, and athletic performance; which is why it is as curious to researchers as they want to discover how it truly works and what muscles it targets. They Say I Say Analysis My favorite quote from They Say/I Say belonged to the Agree But with a Difference section: In a culture like America s that prizes originality, independence, and competitive individualism, writers sometimes don t like to admit that anyone else has made the same point, seemingly beating them to the punch. In our view, however, as long as you can support a view taken by someone else without merely restating what he or she has said, there is no reason to worry about being original. I purposefully chose this quote because I believe that I can share some significant knowledge from my field, and support this statement. Research interested in social psychology showed that since people want to be more original, they tend to highlight their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Myths, originally told orally by storytellers were formed to explain the world and beliefs of their respective individuals. The Prince decides that he can protect himself from this plague by securing himself in his castle. He believes that the plague won t harm him and that he can defeat death. But he is not so fortunate at the end of the story. The three literary devices that will be discussed are the symbol, tone, and theme. The Tone of Masque of the Red Death is more of a darker atmosphere. At the beginning of the story, the author starts off like this The Red Death had long devastated the country. The prince sends his guards to run after the stranger, but the stranger gets away. The Prince gets away and the stranger leads him to the seventh room which is the next symbol. The prince follows the stranger into this room and the reason it symbolizes death because this is where he dies. Poe describes this room as The seventh apartment was closely shrouded in black velvet tapestries that hung all over the ceiling and down the walls, falling in heavy folds upon a carpet of the same material and hue. • 44. High Achieving Student Growth Target 1. Principal Frank felt strongly that ranking a school higher solely for achieving the student growth target over a school that actually met the AYP achievement targets was inequitable and misleading. Do you agree or disagree with Principal Frank s perspective? In this scenario, I feel Principal Frank frustration is justifiable due to the recent changes made to the school rankingsystem. Within the text it indicated that Principal Frank had worked for seven years with his staff to implement best practices in order to meet AYP (Shapiro Gross, 2013). This hard work prompted the school to be ranked in the 25th percentile within the district, and due to it s high achieving reputation required a special admissions lottery (Shapiro ... Compare and contrast the use of AYP ratings compared with individual student growth rankings. Which might be the best way to go in terms of the students, parents, and the community? AYP requires that students levels of reading and math proficiency are tested in grades through 8 and in one grade in high school (Editorial Projects in Education Research Center, 2011, p.1). Results are then compared to prior performance levels, and state determined AYP standards, to determine if the school has met AYP (Editorial Projects in Education Research Center, 2011). In order to achieve AYP, 95% of students must participate in testing, and 95% must reach minimum annual targets (Editorial Projects in Education Research Center, 2011). In addition, 95% of students in subgroups for disadvantaged students, students with disabilities, ELL, and ethnic groups must meet the measurable annual objectives. In contrast, individual student growth rankings do not employ specific benchmarks to establish a school s performance. If Superintendent Hart is employing a simple growth model each students scores will be compared to the previous years. The downside of this is if a student did not take the test they will not be aggregated into the schools growth calculation. It is also going to be abe about how i see my future and what career i want. A resume is something you make in order to get a job. You write your experiences and skills. It helps by showing the boss of the job you re applying at the skills you have. I think job resumes are a good thing and a bad thing. I think it s a good thing because you can show all your past accomplishments and your experiences. I also think it s a bad thing because people can lie about so many things just to get a job. A cover letteris a letter that you send with your resume to wherever you are applying a job for. April 20, 1861 Plantation near Norfolk, VirginiaThe Yanks to the north have the nerve declare war, and a blockade no less, against us over us taking what is rightfully ours! Fort Sumter is part of South Carolina and therefore the property of the Confederacy. Those Union soldiers had no right to refuse handing it over. However, the ongoing economic crisis in Venezuela is an especially notable case which requires pragmatic and feasible solutions. Many assert that the current crisis, which has its roots in corruption and over dependency on oil, is best solved by economic diversification. Others have argued that the best solution is to request foreign aid, such as that from the International Monetary Fund. In spite of this, a combination of history, economics, and logic would indicate that the best solution is to curb the government s excessive control of the economy. The problem is largely rooted in over dependency on oil, which was exacerbated when former president ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
