Analysis of A Savage Life Essay
Through the use of anecdotes in the article A Savage Life , Suzanne Winckler effectively points out
that it is important to understand where your food comes from. Winckler helps convey to readers
that while butchering animals is no fun, it is necessary for the survival of omnivores. She argues
that meat eaters are out of touch with reality; instead of recognizing that an animal must be
sacrificed for their meal, most consumers mindlessly devour the food on their plates without a
thoughtof where their food came from. Winckler states I am too far gone in my rational Western
head to appropriate the ritual of cultures for whom the bloody business of hunting was a matter of
survival (634); in this statement she adequately appeals to logos... Show more content on

Through this proclamation, Winckler successfully appeals to pathos because she makes it simple
for the audience to see the connection between a newborn and a chicken about to lose its life.
Both chickens and newborns are ignorant to the world and rather helpless comparing a human to
the food that one eats helps to put the killing of a chicken into perspective. Winckler then
gruesomely explains what it is like to behead a chicken; appealing to both pathos and ethos:
Headless chickens don t run around. They thrash with such force and seeming coordination that
they sometimes turn back flips (633). By using imagery to describe this horrific requirement for
killing a chicken, Winckler is seen as a credible and factual source. After slaying her first chicken,
Winckler realized why cultures, ancient and contemporary, develop elaborate rituals for coping
with the grisly experience of killing any sentient creature (633). She appeals to logos in this quote
by informing readers of the epiphany she came to taking them through her mind s thought process;
this makes her come across as a logical being, not a demented human. By appealing to logos in this
quote, Winckler invokes thought in readers minds; she productively addresses that killing animals
is disturbing and off putting but necessary for survival, since most nations perform rituals

Industrial Hemp Should be Legal Essay
Just the mention of the word Cannabis in today s society brings about all types of negative
connotations. This is understandable due to the major propaganda campaign that has been waged
by the U.S. government on the plant. Most citizens have no idea what a mature Cannabis plant
looks like, and close to none recognize the thousands of uses it has. This is paper will not discuss
whether drug type Cannabisshould be legalized for recreational or medicinal purposes, what it will
discuss is the many environmentally friendly products that can be made from non psychoactive
hemp. The Columbia History of the World states that the first archaeological record of human
industry is a piece of hemp fabric. This is testament to the fact that the... Show more content on

One major issue with Industrial Hemp is its use for BioMass fuel. Believe it or not, but the energy
that Cannabis stores during its growth can be converted into fuel after harvest. Many plants can
be used to make BioMass fuel, yet Cannabis is the top candidate for its supply due to it s
abundance of cellulose and ease of harvesting it. BioMass fuel can be used for absolutely any
form of energy, be it fuel to power an engine (car) or to generate electricity. BioMass fuel burns
cleaner than petrochemical fuels. Paper made from hemp is superior to wood pulp paper in
every facet. First, and most importantly, Cannabis is grown in a field and is planted and
harvested in the same year. Forests that are cut down for paper destroy natural habitat that take
many years to grow. Wood pulp paper is bleached in a process that has many toxic byproducts.
Cannabis paper requires no bleaching due to its naturally creamy color. Hemp paper is stronger,
lasts longer, and holds ink better than wood pulp paper. Hemp seed has been claimed as man s
perfect food. It has a complete set of essential fatty acids, along with high amounts of Omega 3
and Omega 6 oils that are extremely healthy, yet hard to find in foods. It is 75% protein. It was
used for ages in cooking due to its exceptional nutritional value. Today, hemp foods are extremely
expensive due its illegal status in

The Fairytale Of Cinderella By James Poniewozik
Each and every child grows up viewing Disney movies, wearing princess gowns, and buzz lightyear
suits. The parents of these children are the individuals purchasing these Disney costumes, toys,
candy, and other related items for their children. Our society today accepts Disney and their culture
of entertainment as a part of a child s childhood experience without second thought. Elements of the
fairytale of Cinderellahas adapted over time to please the culture in which it is told; yet in today s
culture, adaptation to these elements is taken to where it has never been. In The Princess Paradox,
James Poniewozik says, You can have the girly dream of glass slippers and true love, these films
say, as well as the womanly ideal of self determination and independence and any contradictions
between them are no match for the movies magic (Poniewozik 324). Peggy Orenstein compliments
Poniewozik s article because she states, The first Princess items, released with no marketing plan,
no focus groups, no advertising, sold as if blessed by a fairy godmother (Orenstein 327).
Poniewozik is trying to argue that films have altered the story of Cinderella in the 21st century
cinema realm due to the addition of the concept of feminism, women s separation from men, and
the traditional magic implemented within them. Orenstein marries these articles together indirectly
by pointing out that Disney legitimately had no marketing plan, yet they continue to rake in money.

Paleolithic Vs Neolithic Research Paper
I would prefer living in the Paleolithic Era and the Neolithic Era.
One main reason is that the Paleolithic men were much healthier than the Neolithic men in the
ways that, Paleolithic men were foragers and they moved their food which led them to not staying
in one spot permanently. This means that sickness and diseases were not easily passed on. Unlike
the Neolithic men who did have permanent settlements and had illness passed around quite easily.
Also it says in the passage Old Stone Age vs. New Stone Age that The adoption of grains in the
Neolithic era coincided with a shortening of stature, thinner bones and crooked, cavity ridden teeth.
Since Paleolithic Era did not domesticated grains they only ate wild grains they were taller, ... Show

They created created language by using symbolic language (using symbols or sounds to
communicate) and collective learning (telling other people about your discoveries so they can use
it and the information does not die). Although the Neolithic man did create some very important
discoveries too (the wheel, calendars, time keeping etc.) they would not have able to make these
discoveries without language.
Another reason is that the Paleolithic people had a healthy balanced diet. The Paleolithic people
had a main diet of meat, fruits, vegetables, and wild grains. Whereto the Neolithic people had a
main diet of wheat, yams, corn, rice, and maze. As we ve seen in paragraph one grains make your
bones thinner, decrease your height, and make you have crooked teeth. Therefore the Paleolithic
people had a better balanced diet which allowed them to be healthier.
My fourth reason is that you are a farmer (Neolithic) and one year you have bad weather and
your crops don t grow. Now you have very little if any food. That doesn t just effect a couple of
people though. That effect your whole clan or colony which can be a lot of people. Whereto if
your a forager (Paleolithic) and you don t have a permanent settlement then if one year you have
bad weather you don t need to stress about it because you can move like you do anyway for your

Jem Bravery In Lord Of The Flies
Throughout the novel, Jem s definition of courage shifts over time, indicative of his maturing
personality. As the story begins, Jem s superficial idea of courage reveals his immature nature, as
his ignorance defines his judgement. At the start of the novel, Jem s idea of bravery is simply
touching the side of the Radley house, and then only because In all his life, Jem had never
declined a dare. In this instance Jem has an urge to boast about his masculinity, in the form of a
perceived bravery. However, contrary to what Jem thinks, this act of couragemerely supports his
innocence as he is yet to experience the real plight of society and the true courage which comes
with that. With Jem s lack of understanding, Harper Lee criticises the traditional... Show more

who acknowledges this bravery as he tries to show Jem what real courage is. Once again Atticus
attempts to teach the Children the importance of perseverance, not the traditional, masculine and

stereotypes during the civil rights movement. After being introduced as a horrible witch like
figure, Ms Dubose is eventually seen as the bravest person [Atticus] ever knew. Through her
tremendous courage, Ms Dubose defies her original stereotype as Lee attempts to picture her
dying in goodness. In doing this, Lee criticises the stereotypes of the 1950 s. Despite not directly
linking to the situation of Ms Dubose, the prejudice toward the African American society, merely
based on an uneducated, common belief, is denounced as Lee introduces her society to a women
who defies her preconceived image through a tremendous amount courage. Lee uses Ms Dubose to

The Consumer Protection Act ( 1986 )
INTRODUCTION TO THE CONSUMER PROTECTION ACT(1986)
The modern era is considered to be the era of consumers. No country can ever disregard the interest
of the consumers. This is best argued through the process of rapid enactment of consumer
protection laws throughout the world. In addition to consumer protection acts throughout the world,
one can easily find the rapidly rising rate of lawmaking for consumers in the developing countries
like Sri Lanka, Thailand, Philippines,Mongolia, Mauritius , China, Indonesia,Taiwan, Nepal,

An Overview of the Argentine Financial Crisis Essay
The financial crisis in Argentina during the late 1990s and early 2000s resulted in severe issues
with foreign debt, inflation, unemployment, and political turmoil for the country. Argentina not
only suffered a currency crisis, but also suffered a political crisis. Fallout from the economic
collapse was so severe the Argentinean population resorted to civil unrest and protest, which in turn
exacerbated Argentinas problems at the turn of the century. While other issues related to this
financial crisis such as the impact on the lives of the Argentinean population or the political turmoil
and corruption are certainly worthy of discussion, this paper will focus on the currency crisis and

In an effort to move Argentina from an internationally isolated and state dominated economy to one
that encouraged international trade and foreign investments, Carlos Menem, in the early 1990s,
initiated a wave of privatization, which included state owned industries such as utilities (Feldstein,
2002). Following the examples of Chile and the emerging economies of Southeast Asian nations,
Menem hoped this liberalization would foster growth in productivity and economic growth.
On April 1, 1991, Argentina s Congress, with Domingo Cavallo as Minister of Economy, enacted
the Convertibility Law (or Ley de Convertibilidad) legally adopting the currency board (Hornbeck,
2002). This legislation essentially pegged the Argentinean peso to the U.S. dollar. The government
guaranteed the convertibility of the peso to U.S. dollar at a one to one exchange rate, limiting the
printing of pesos to only those necessary to purchase dollars in the foreign exchange market. Thus,
the central bank was required by law to hold foreign reserves to cover its peso liabilities (Hanke
and Schuler, 2002). With this fixed exchange rate, the Argentinean government was hoping to
preserve the value of their currency and stabilize inflation. The peg was initially successful, as it
cured hyperinflation that occurred at the end of the 1980s and provided price stability needed for
economic growth in the early 1990s. However, by the late 1990s,

you. But, most importantly, there are a trillion fun facts about it on the internet. Banana Fact:
Americans eat an average of 27 pounds of bananas per person every year, making them the most
popular fruit in the U.S. Banana fact: Research shows that eating bananas may lower the risk of
heart attacks and strokes, as well as decrease the risk of getting some cancers. Banana fact:
Banana farms use extremely harmful pesticides including diazinon and chlorpyrifos, which
when consumed can cause: diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, convulsions, and comas. Banana fact:
Tortoises and manatees off the coast of Costa Rica are facing extinction partly due to the fact
that pesticide runoff from banana plantations kills the algae on which they feed. Now you might

selling at a discount. If the new bond price were selling at $5,600,000 then the bond would be
selling at a premium. The important part is the to determine whether the bond is under valued or
over valued
For instance if the bond was selling at $5,100,000 and the par value was $5,425,530 and the stated
yield was 8.11%, then the bond is over valued because the bond price with yield of 8.11% should

Burnout And Overtraining And Sport Psychology
This week I read the chapter on Burnout and Overtraining and Children and Sport Psychology. I
found this to be an interesting topic that many people do not consider. Due to the competitiveness
of sports or a performance setting, people are encouraged to continue training and to not take time
off. However, excessive training can lead to overtraining and burnout. This can then cause athletes
to be more susceptible to injury, concerns in interpersonal relationships such as not having time to
be with friends or added stress from parents, psychological concerns such as losing enjoyment for
the activity, etc. That is why it is important to take time to prevent burnout from happening. I know
for dance, my teacher always commented on how taking a week off from dance during the
holidays can be helpful. This is because during the schoolyear we were stressed with academics and
in November/December we finished a stressful, busy season with Nutcracker performances. By the
time of winter... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

forward in technique and healthy for the mind. People may think taking breaks would be
counterintuitive, but short breaks can be effective for athletes or performers.
In addition, the chapter of Children and Sport Psychology discussed reasons children participate in
sport but also reasons for why they drop out. Again, applying this to dance, it is very interesting to
look at the numbers of those that start dance and those

Vaccines And The Air Force And Mankind
Vaccines are one of the most important chemistry evolvements in the history of both the Air
Force and mankind. They have had a significant impact on the Air Force and the military as a
whole. Vaccines were first described by the philosopher Thucydides in 430 B.C. when he said that
man would not get the chicken pox twice due to previous exposure.6 This was then expanded on
by Edward Jenner in 1796, when he created the first official smallpoxvaccineand made it available
to the public.2 Vaccines have become a highly debated topic in the medical field today. Although
there are alleged negative side effects, the effectiveness of vaccines cannot be properly argued
against. In figure 1 to the right, the cases of measles are shown over a 57 year period. Around
1965 when the vaccine was officially licensed, the number of cases dramatically dropped down to
levels close to zero and has been steadily low ever since. Many think that this is a direct impact of
vaccination. Others state increasingly clean standards of living and overall human advancement as
the cause and discount the apparent achievements of vaccines. There have been many groups
formed over the years that are against vaccines and try to show the public the ineffectiveness and
danger of these immunizations. In 1870, the Anti Vaccination Society of America was formed.18
This led to many battles in court and one case went all the way to the Supreme Court. In 1905, the
Supreme Court ruled against a man who did not want to

Rhetorical Analysis Woman
In his artwork Woman in the Blue Veil (La femme au voile bleu), Pablo Picasso appropriated
different aspects of classical Greek art and borrowed various elements from Greco roman pieces
like Grave Naiskos of a Seated Woman with Two Standing Women. Woman in the Blue Veil was
most likely inspired by Greco roman artifacts like Grave Naiskos of a Seated Woman with Two
Standing Women. According to the didactic panel of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, in
the Picasso and Rivera exhibit Woman in the Blue Veil was painted near the end of Picasso s neo
classical period (1921 23) and borrows compositional elements from ancient Greek funerary art. The
panel goes on to describe how the figure in the painting recalls the mournful women in the statue...

This fascination can be seen the sculptural quality of his painting, which can be compared to a
style similar to Greek funerary art. The figure in the painting is wearing traditional ancient
Greek tunic, and the head covering that the woman wears is similar to those worn as an ancient
Roman custom. Like traditional Greco roman art, Picasso focuses a lot of attention on the face
of the figure, while still giving a lot of detail to the clothing. In Picasso s piece there are many
curved lines, which seem to suggest a sense of comfort and ease, while the horizontal lines in the
piece suggest a distance and calm. All of these feeling would appeal to the people who had
witnessed the devastations of the war only several years before the painting was made. The long
continuous lines guides the viewer s eye in certain directions, and keeps the viewer interested. The
shapes in Woman in the Blue Veil mostly consist of round shapes like ovals, which represent a kind
of continuous movement. The triangles created by the woman s clothing and her nose leads the eye

describes the whole Friday evening when the event occurred, which included stealing his mom s
car, getting drunk, and attempting to drive to his father s house. It didn t take long before Alex
drove into a neighbor s yard, damaging a lawn gnome and throwing up on the cop who arrived at
the scene. When he arrived at the police station, bleeding and tears in his eyes, he accidentally
knocked a table which caused coffee to be spilled on the desk cop. He then wakes up in the
hospital hours later and discovers he s suffered multiple injuries and disappointed his parents to the

The Road By Cormac Mccarthy
In Cormac McCarthy s The Road, the father presents to the reader three distinct characteristics that
shapes his personality through novel. When the man mentions of carrying the fire to his son,
meaning that his son carries the load of civilization, compassion, and sympathy, the father
expresses multiple times that he lives for his son, and only for his son. The world of The Road is a
complete anarchy, and the mandisplays extensive amounts of bravery while trying to face the
struggles and hardships that is presented to them. Whether the challenge is to be hiding from
cannibals, or wandering into dangerous abandon houses, the man always exhibits ample
amounts of bravery. Even though the man s son is born into the disheveled and chaotic world
and experiences nothing else before, the boy s sense of right and wrong came from his father.
The man constantly influences his son by telling him that they are the good and guys: Look at
me, the man said. He turned and looked. He looked like he d been crying. Just tell me. We
wouldn t ever eat anybody, would we? No. Of course not. Even if we were starving?... But we
wouldn t. No. We wouldn t No matter what? No. No matter what. Because were the good guys.
Yes. And we re carrying the fire? And we re carrying the fire. Yes. (McCarthy 195) . The exchange
of the dialogue here between the man and his son shows how the man has shaped his son with a
compass of separation between good and bad. Although the man believes his son learns this

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends a weekly minimum of 150 minutes of
moderate intensity aerobic activity, such as brisk walking, for adults. An alternative is 75 minutes
of vigorous aerobic activity such as jogging or running. A treadmill enables you to perform either of
these activities, within the comfort of your own home or the gym.

LOSE WEIGHT
Walking is a low intensity exercise that almost anybody can do. Running is a more intense type of
activity that burns more calories than most other exercises. Both are beneficial to people at
different fitness levels. If you use your treadmill regularly, you can begin to see reductions in body
weight. By keeping your weight in a normal range, you can feel more confident about yourself.
CHOOSE APPROPRIATE LEVEL OF INTENSITY
If you are just starting out, consult your doctor before beginning any exercise program. With a
treadmill, you can alter the intensity of your workout by adjusting incline levels and speed. You can
also benefit from interval training, wherein you can alternate between high and low speeds
throughout the duration of your workout. Interval training is a great way to maximize your
workout without overexerting yourself.

How Did Life Change For The Upper Class After French...
How did life change for the upper class after the French Revolution? Life changed extremely for
the upper class. Before the French Revolution, the upper class owned lots of land, didn t have to
pay taxes and was very wealthy. Which meant they could buy expensive food and clothing. They
lived off the sweat of peasants. They were seen as greedy who contributed nothing. The upper
class only made up 2% of society. The upper class was very cohere to all their privileges. But this
all changed during the Revolution, the upper class began fearing to lose their privileges and they
soon tried to escape. Later on, they were imposed to come back, being humiliated by the order of a
lower class. Consequently, after the Revolution, they had to face a great

If you try to relax by eating more you may only increase the risk of having hypertension. How to
be successful with weight loss for a healthier lifestyle most people start by eating the right foods
that can help us avoid certain diseases or recover faster when illnesses occur. These and other
important functions are fueled by chemical substances in our food called nutrients. Nutrients are
classified as carbohydrates, proteins, fats, vitamins, minerals, and water. Although humans need
food to survive, many people eat too much, or choose the wrong foods to eat, which leads to the
body putting on weight. When you eat more calories than your daily energy requirements the
extra calories are stockpiled as body fat. Slowly these fat cells keep building up and settle on the
hips, waist, thighs, upper arms and back, as well as around the heart, kidneys, liver and other
organs. Fortunately body fat can easily convert into energy; however, you must reduce your fat
intake and exercise regularly. If you only reduce your fat and don t exercise, your body will also
break down muscle tissue and use them for fuel. Many people struggle to lose weight that is put on
and that s where weight loss companies come to the rescue.
There are many different ways for weight to be lost, as there are many different sorts of weight

Art-Based Interventions
Statement of the Problem The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of an art based
intervention program on the self esteem of pre adolescent girls. While previous studies have
looked at how art based interventions can be used to address self esteem in aggressive children
(Alavinexhad et al., 2014), self esteemin juvenile offenders (Hartz Thick, 2005; Murphy, Beaty,
Minnick, 2013), and self awareness in young people (Coholic, 2011), as well as the effect of
specific art types on self esteem (Chilton, 2007; Jang Choi, 2012; Khadar, Babapour,
Sabourimoghaddam, 2013), there has been little research in its effectiveness with specifically
young girls. Due to the risk of lowered self esteem among girls (Block Robins, 1993; MacPhee

Art based interventions use the creative process to help clients communicate and understand their
thoughts and feelings (Case Dalley, 1992). There are a variety of approaches one can take when
using art in interventions, as it is a versatile technique. It can be combined with other forms of
therapy, such as rational emotive behaviour therapy (Roghanchi et al., 2014) mindfulness training
(Coholic, 2011

York did I grow up? Well, in New York there is a quaint borough called Staten Island. It is in Staten
Island where I did just that. My birth took place in Manhattanand I have lived on Staten Island ever
since I had been released from the hospital where I was born in. Staten Island is a lesser known

Causes And Effects Of Islamic Terrorism
Terrorism has been an evident problem in the throughout the world and in the U.S. and has been
a point of strife and grief amongst the affected families and the community. It affects the Nation
and the citizens within. The same goes for the Islamic and Muslim countries as well. These
countries often feeling stronger repercussions because of a larger amount of terrorist activity
within the countries themselves. This giving rise to problems such as economic depression and
political controversy among the countries within themselves. As a result of this it causes
immigration into countries more developed and not war torn such as the United States and
countries within the United Kingdom. Terrorism in the United States has been going on for
many years, dating back to the first assassination, President Abraham Lincoln, in 1865, and has
continued to as as late as last week. So for more a hundred and fifty years we have been dealing
with terroristic acts. These acts affects all the countries citizens not just the victims. For example
after 9/11 nearly 200,000 americans lost their jobs and about 40,000 in aerospace careers lost
their jobs. These effects are long lasting depending on the severity. The effects of Radical Islamic
terrorism do not just affect the american citizens, but also the Muslim and non radicalized Islams

Compare And Contrast Odysseus And Robin Hood
Throughout history, no matter the number of times heroes change, the foundation of what makes
a hero stays the same. In order to stay relevant to the times, Modern heroes, such as Robin Hood,
can appear very different from classical heroes, like Odysseus, but they will always be very skillful
with a weapon yet suffer from hubris. Therefore, Homer s The Odyssey, the 13th century Rifson
ballad, and Pyle s The Merry Adventures of Robin Hooddepict that Odysseus and Robin Hood are
similar in the skill of archeryto outwit each of their respective enemies and hubris, a flaw which
directly aligns with glory.
Odysseus and Robin Hood are similar in many ways. For example, they are both skillful in
archery. When Odysseus finally reveals himself to the suitors, he proves his identity by
effortlessly stringing his bow. When he releases, the arrow shoots from the bow clean as a
whistle through every socket of the axes (Homer XXI. 481 482). The suitors are impressed with
his ability to perfectly string the bow and shoot it, a task many of them fail to complete. Odysseus
disguise of the old man allows him to use the element of surprise, dumbfounding the suitors, with
his ability to shoot the great bow. Odysseus then slaughters the suitors who have been drinking all
his wine, eating his food, and pursuing his wife. Similarly, Robin Hood uses his advanced skills in
archery to win the hand of the princess and beat his enemy, the sheriff. When the sheriff holds an
archery match in order

A Comparison Of Everything Will Be Okay And Stray
Most people from an early age have a dream; often people give up on them and most of the time
around middle school or late elementary school. It is the prime time where everyone gets
discouraged by bullying and the realization that life is tough that dawns in the child s mind
around this time. The discouraging factor could also be due to an unsupportive family, which is
shown primarily by the short stories Everything Will Be Okay by James Howe and Stray by
Cynthia Rylant. The main characters in each story have a conflict over a desire. In Everything Will
Be Okay Our main character loses the argument in the end and the kitten he desperately wanted to
keep the cat, but he learns the invaluable lesson not to give up on your dreams.... Show more content

Doris Turned around. What? I said, you had better feed your dog. This clearly shows she has
won the argument about keeping the dog. Her father would never say it if the dog was at the
pound. Doris did not give up and won the argument and she never gave up on the dog. Thus clearly
shows that it is worth it to keep pushing on even if the first response is negative.
To continue on, In both stories the main characters have a enemy as far as keeping their
respective pets. Their own families, in fact. The driving force in both of these stories is the
characters in the story having to fight for their case. We know in Everything Will Be Okay the
main reason the family will not keep the kitten is its health. The cat would be expensive to fix.
We know this is the main reason from the quote, Well, she happens to be right, Paul tells me.
With an animal that far gone, you do not have a choice. It has to be put to sleep. With an animal
that far gone, he means it is deathly sick. If it the main reason against the cat was the family just
does not like animals or someone in the house has an allergy, he would have mentioned it. In
stray, the family is poor, but the dog is in relatively good condition, certainly better than the
kitten in Everything Will Be Okay. They reason the parents would not keep the dog was it would
be expensive to own and care for. They would need to buy food, a dog bowl, a bed, a leash and all
the other essential items every dog owner would need

When reading A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens you realize that Scrooge s childhood has a
huge impact on his adult life, his adult self is a mirror image of his child self, both in his emotions
and relationships. This becomes apparent when the ghost of Christmas past appears and takes
Scrooge on a journey back into his childhood days. His childhood really molds Scrooge into the
person he becomes later in life. Scrooge was a lonely and withdrawn child because he lost
connection with the only parent he had left after the death of his mother at childbirth. His father

Museum of Art in Kansas City, I encounter one of the Oldenburg and van Bruggen s giant

think of how this object is disproportional, especially in comparison to it s surroundings. The
shuttlecock is huge and unbelievably larger than the average size of a shuttlecock, which would
fit within the palm of my hand. An altered view is created by the use of the visual principles of
scale and proportion in order to create this sculpture. Distinguishing between scale and proportion
is significant in depicting a specific image in which the size is questionable and cannot be

Separation Between Boys And Girls
The first thing a person notices upon walking into a store is all the different categories separated
by different aisles and giant signs hanging from the ceiling. The categories are then separated into
smaller, more specific sections. Like in the bathroom accessory aisles, there are different sections
in it that include the towels, curtains, and soap dispensers. Kid s clothes and toys are no different,
they are both separated into two different major categories which are boys and girls. This
separation between boys and girls does carry on throughout a person s life, and influences many
genderroles and biases. In the girls clothingsection, there many different items of clothing such as
sweaters, vests, dresses, leggings, jeans, sparkly plaid, and tunics. The patterns on these
different clothing items consists of sparkles, hearts, flowers, lace, fake fur, and animals. Most of
the clothing for girls consists of bright colors like, pinks, purple, aqua marine, gold, and silver.
Fabric that was mainly used for girls was cotton, polyester, spandex, and metallic. So, knowing
what kinds of clothes are available for girls to wear, it raises the question what do clothes teach
girls and being a girl? Since the clothing for girls is less practical use¬, and seems to be frillier
and light, this teaches them that they are supposed to be aware of their appearances at a young

Both movies shows how non native people coming to the Pacific islands and instead of trying to
understand and learn one s culture. In Mutiny of the Bounty, the European s men once discovered

sexality and beauty of the women there. You can see in the movie that Tahiti was filled with
beautiful, tanned skinned, and minimal clothed women. The sexual desire the European men got
from these women for their sex appeals lead the main character Christian and another fellow sailor
to create a mutiny against their hated Captain (Mutiny on the Bounty). One thing that I also
remembered from the movie was the way they communicated. Since they both had completely
different language, they somehow spoke their own language to each other and still understood it.
In the movie, you also see that the ship captain Bligh got offered the Breadfruit plant from the
island s chief (Mutiny on the Bounty). The captain tried to take it back home hoping for future
profit, he even went to the extent to stop allowing the mates on the ship to drink water just so he
could give it to the plants instead (Mutiny on the Bounty). You see how colonization and sexuality

Arnold played a gallant part in the American Revolution and became a major general in 1777. His

The Change Process Essay
At the beginning of the change process, a crucial aspect for Ghosn was the importance and the need
for an open communication in both directions: from upper management to lower management and
vice versa. Before he took over the position of the COO at Nissan, he traveled to Japan to gather
information from the lower level managementup to the top level management.
Clampitt, DeKoch, and Cushman outlined different communication strategies, which can be found
in Ghosn s communication style. They authors defined the communication strategies based on
communication effectiveness and amount of informational transmitted and emphasized that leaders
can use the strategies simultaneously (Palmer et al., 2009, p. 305). In the case of Nissan, Ghosn
followed the device of transparency to regain credibility, and thus he transmitted an enormous
amount of information. Furthermore, the communication effectiveness was middle to high since
Ghosn provided detailed information to the people involved in the change. He wanted to avoid
confusions, and thus he shared a maximum of information (Hughes et al., 2003, p. 6). Ghosn also
engaged people being a part of the change discussion, as an example: He defined the CFTs, which
had the challenge to identify the change actions and obstacles. Thus, Ghosn s communication
strategy (at least based on the case study) was a mix of tell and sell and underscore and explore
(Palmer et al., 2009, p. 306).
Plamer et al. (2009) introduced various questions,

Informative Essay On Kayak And Canoeing
Theme Kayak and canoeing Action sports... It is very challenging and rewarding to capture
moving subject in action. I want to capture this series because it is an appealing subject to me, I
believe the purpose for taking shots of kayak and canoes would to interact with the action combined
with the danger that is involved in the sport. I want the audience to feel part of the intense
moments. Action sports is something that should not be taken from to far if you want to capture
the intense moment. Positioning yourself at the right angle to work the correct light. Position is
important for the composition we want the viewer to become part of the story. Capturing the
sportsman in action and from different angles makes the subject more dramatic and powerful. I

It would be difficult to change lenses during the rafting trip and therefore I think I will use a
camera with a fix zoom lens and a go pro that can offer me multiple choices within one casing.
The surroundings are an important aspect to look into but I have decided to focus and frame
the action, the composition is important working with the golden ratio. I will spend time
observing the surroundings before I start my project, and if I can I would take a few practice
shots the day before, this is a way to get familiar with what is and could be important to include
in my work. Unfortunately we will not be photographing early nor late during the day it would be
more closer to late morning early afternoon, this could be a problem with the light, this is also one
of the reasons why I will place my focus more on the subject then on the surroundings, I am now

The Pros of Employment for Ex-Cons Essay
The Pros of Employment for Ex Cons
In the last thirty years the crime rate in the United States has decreased, but the number of people
incarcerated has increased because longer minimum sentences and stricter requirements for parole
have been established. Offenders serve longer prison sentences that lead to a variety of
employment related barriers to overcome after release (Bracey 253). In the State of Nebraska, ex
offenders find little help when searching for employment. On the Department of Correction s
website, the mission statement reads,
The mission of the Department of Correctional Services is to serve and protect the public by
providing control, humane care, and program opportunities for those individuals placed in its

Employment, or lack there of, is said to be one of the top two factors in recidivism (Agan Mencl;
Pannkuk). Recidivism has become a nationwide problem, and many are looking for ways to reduce
its rate (Bracey 253).
Ex offenders have a hard time finding long standing, good paying employment because of the
barriers they face. One of those barriers is a lack of skills needed to gain employment (Holzer,
Raphael, and Stoll 4 5). Many offenders are both undereducated and unemployed when they enter
prison, and while in prison, often fail to gain adequate education or skills because there are no
resources offered to acquire these skills (Smith). Also, employers fear hiring ex offenders
because of their criminal past. John Rakis, who wrote, Improving the Employment Rates of Ex
Prisoners Under Parole, says many employers have a prejudice, against hiring an ex offender
(Rakis 8). Along with employers being wary of a criminal past, ex offenders also have large
gaps in their employment history, as a result of the time served in prison. These gaps cause ex
offenders to appear as undependable employees, and employers become hesitant of hiring the ex
offenders (Bracey 253). Richard Coley and Paul Barton, who jointly wrote, Locked up and Locked
out: An Educational Perspective on the U.S. Prison Population, say, Employers value experience
and continuity of work history (Coley and Barton 30). When an offender has spent a significant

Willa Cather s O Pioneers !
Cather portraying herself in the characters and the flipped gender roles
Considering I am one of the only two males in the Intro to Women s Literature class, I felt moved
to touch on Willa Cather s flipping of the gender roles in the book O Pioneers! I will be using my
own opinion in this essay, along with textual evidence to back up my claims. I will also be
establishing connections between Cather s portrayals of herself within the themes and characters in
the book.
As we know, Willa Catherwas very open about her sexuality and her feelings towards women. She
dressed like a man for most of her life and even in her college days at the University of Nebraska
Lincoln, she had a haircut much like mine. One fact that is very impressive about Willa Cather is
that she lived this life of manhood during a time when that was extremely taboo. During the time
Willa Cather grew up, men were the dominant ones that could do anything they please. The fact that
Willa Cather broke through that stigma is inspiring to me, even as a male in the 21st century. I am
confident in saying that Willa Cather wrote very strong women characters, because she wanted to
show the women of the time that anything is possible. While winning a Pulitzer Prize and writing
many best selling books, I believe she accomplished that challenge very well.
My first quote gives us our very first physical description of the main character Alexandra She
wore a man s long ulster (not as if it were an affliction,

Personal Characteristics Of A Guardian
According to the Keirsey Temperament Sorter my personality type is that of a Guardian, the
cornerstone of society. The general core characteristics of a Guardian include loyalty,
dependability, helpfulness, strong work ethic and great citizenship. They are even tempered and
are great at managing things from the ground, up. Guardians are helpers who are not afraid to
use all of their talents for the greater good. I was happy to note that we are also loyal mates,
responsible parents and stable leaders. While most of these characteristics, I feel, accurately
describe my personality a few are a little off. Some of the traits I identify with include, loyalty, hard

I enjoy trying new things and am not afraid to be the example. In alignment with the survey, I
have a lot of fun with my friends and coworkers but I take my duties and responsibilities very
seriously. Sometimes after work we have training, I brief my staff and set expectations for their
behavior. When dealing with such a young demographic, it is very important to set standards. I
recall attending a training with my staff after an especially long day. Granted, the training was
boring due to content and a dull facilitator in a warm room, but I was shocked by the behavior of
the staff in the meeting. Staff would openly talk and obnoxiously eat crunchy food and be
blatantly disrespectful. During our break I pulled eight staff outside to discuss their actions. It
was amazing to me that they were clueless to how unprofessional they were. Their supervisors had
not set expectations which lead to the staff embarrassing the entire company. In my workplace I
enjoy creating harmony and meaningful relationships in all aspects;parents, students, staff and
faculty. I recently was assigned a staff who needed a fresh start, a school where none of the
parents or staff knew him. This was because he was transitioning from female to male, talk about

What Is Wuung A Hero InThe Journey To The Sun Wukong
In many cultures, heroes have been recorded in tales for thousands of years. In China, one of the
Great Classic Novels, The Journey to the West, was written by Wu Cheng en in the 16th century
during the late Ming dynasty (1590 1644) when capitalism began to develop. The book describes a
Buddhist monk Tripitaka and his four disciples: Monkey, Pigsy, Sandy and White horse, and how
they battled with different demons on the way to the west in order to get Buddhist scriptures. In the
novel, Monkey had its own name called Sun Wukong. The first name Wukong had a Buddhist
meaning which is Aware of Vacuity.
Wukong was a beloved hero in Chinese religion and culture which can be illustrated in The Journey
to the West. What does mean to be a hero? A hero can be considered as someone who is admired
by his/her great achievements. In mythology, a character is someone who has superhuman
powers, marvelous origins, brave enough to revolt against the inequality and fit in with the era of
they live in can be viewed as a hero. Wukong s actions and ideologies satisfy these requirements to
be viewed as a hero.
Wukong s marvelous birth contributed him to be a hero. At the beginning of The Journey to the
West, the monkey was born from a stone egg. According to Anthony Yu s translation of The
Monkey the Monk: A Revised Abridgment of The Journey to the West, it described that there was
an immortal stone on the top of a mountain. With the nutrition of the seed of Heaven and Earth and

  • 2. Analysis of A Savage Life Essay Through the use of anecdotes in the article A Savage Life , Suzanne Winckler effectively points out that it is important to understand where your food comes from. Winckler helps convey to readers that while butchering animals is no fun, it is necessary for the survival of omnivores. She argues that meat eaters are out of touch with reality; instead of recognizing that an animal must be sacrificed for their meal, most consumers mindlessly devour the food on their plates without a thoughtof where their food came from. Winckler states I am too far gone in my rational Western head to appropriate the ritual of cultures for whom the bloody business of hunting was a matter of survival (634); in this statement she adequately appeals to logos... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Through this proclamation, Winckler successfully appeals to pathos because she makes it simple for the audience to see the connection between a newborn and a chicken about to lose its life. Both chickens and newborns are ignorant to the world and rather helpless comparing a human to the food that one eats helps to put the killing of a chicken into perspective. Winckler then gruesomely explains what it is like to behead a chicken; appealing to both pathos and ethos: Headless chickens don t run around. They thrash with such force and seeming coordination that they sometimes turn back flips (633). By using imagery to describe this horrific requirement for killing a chicken, Winckler is seen as a credible and factual source. After slaying her first chicken, Winckler realized why cultures, ancient and contemporary, develop elaborate rituals for coping with the grisly experience of killing any sentient creature (633). She appeals to logos in this quote by informing readers of the epiphany she came to taking them through her mind s thought process; this makes her come across as a logical being, not a demented human. By appealing to logos in this quote, Winckler invokes thought in readers minds; she productively addresses that killing animals is disturbing and off putting but necessary for survival, since most nations perform rituals ... This is understandable due to the major propaganda campaign that has been waged by the U.S. government on the plant. Believe it or not, but the energy that Cannabis stores during its growth can be converted into fuel after harvest. Many plants can be used to make BioMass fuel, yet Cannabis is the top candidate for its supply due to it s abundance of cellulose and ease of harvesting it. BioMass fuel can be used for absolutely any form of energy, be it fuel to power an engine (car) or to generate electricity. BioMass fuel burns cleaner than petrochemical fuels. Paper made from hemp is superior to wood pulp paper in every facet. First, and most importantly, Cannabis is grown in a field and is planted and harvested in the same year. • 4. The Fairytale Of Cinderella By James Poniewozik Each and every child grows up viewing Disney movies, wearing princess gowns, and buzz lightyear suits. The parents of these children are the individuals purchasing these Disney costumes, toys, candy, and other related items for their children. Our society today accepts Disney and their culture of entertainment as a part of a child s childhood experience without second thought. Elements of the fairytale of Cinderellahas adapted over time to please the culture in which it is told; yet in today s culture, adaptation to these elements is taken to where it has never been. In The Princess Paradox, James Poniewozik says, You can have the girly dream of glass slippers and true love, these films say, as well as the womanly ideal of self determination and independence and any contradictions between them are no match for the movies magic (Poniewozik 324). Peggy Orenstein compliments Poniewozik s article because she states, The first Princess items, released with no marketing plan, no focus groups, no advertising, sold as if blessed by a fairy godmother (Orenstein 327). Poniewozik is trying to argue that films have altered the story of Cinderella in the 21st century cinema realm due to the addition of the concept of feminism, women s separation from men, and the traditional magic implemented within them. Orenstein marries these articles together indirectly by pointing out that Disney legitimately had no marketing plan, yet they continue to rake in money. The reason Disney ... • 5. Paleolithic Vs Neolithic Research Paper I would prefer living in the Paleolithic Era and the Neolithic Era. One main reason is that the Paleolithic men were much healthier than the Neolithic men in the ways that, Paleolithic men were foragers and they moved their food which led them to not staying in one spot permanently. This means that sickness and diseases were not easily passed on. Unlike the Neolithic men who did have permanent settlements and had illness passed around quite easily. Also it says in the passage Old Stone Age vs. New Stone Age that The adoption of grains in the Neolithic era coincided with a shortening of stature, thinner bones and crooked, cavity ridden teeth. They created created language by using symbolic language (using symbols or sounds to communicate) and collective learning (telling other people about your discoveries so they can use it and the information does not die). Although the Neolithic man did create some very important discoveries too (the wheel, calendars, time keeping etc.) they would not have able to make these discoveries without language. Another reason is that the Paleolithic people had a healthy balanced diet. The Paleolithic people had a main diet of meat, fruits, vegetables, and wild grains. Whereto the Neolithic people had a main diet of wheat, yams, corn, rice, and maze. As we ve seen in paragraph one grains make your bones thinner, decrease your height, and make you have crooked teeth. Therefore the Paleolithic people had a better balanced diet which allowed them to be healthier. My fourth reason is that you are a farmer (Neolithic) and one year you have bad weather and your crops don t grow. Now you have very little if any food. That doesn t just effect a couple of people though. That effect your whole clan or colony which can be a lot of people. Whereto if your a forager (Paleolithic) and you don t have a permanent settlement then if one year you have bad weather you don t need to stress about it because you can move like you do anyway for your ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In an effort to move Argentina from an internationally isolated and state dominated economy to one that encouraged international trade and foreign investments, Carlos Menem, in the early 1990s, initiated a wave of privatization, which included state owned industries such as utilities (Feldstein, 2002). Following the examples of Chile and the emerging economies of Southeast Asian nations, Menem hoped this liberalization would foster growth in productivity and economic growth. On April 1, 1991, Argentina s Congress, with Domingo Cavallo as Minister of Economy, enacted the Convertibility Law (or Ley de Convertibilidad) legally adopting the currency board (Hornbeck, 2002). This legislation essentially pegged the Argentinean peso to the U.S. dollar. The government guaranteed the convertibility of the peso to U.S. dollar at a one to one exchange rate, limiting the printing of pesos to only those necessary to purchase dollars in the foreign exchange market. Thus, the central bank was required by law to hold foreign reserves to cover its peso liabilities (Hanke and Schuler, 2002). With this fixed exchange rate, the Argentinean government was hoping to preserve the value of their currency and stabilize inflation. The peg was initially successful, as it cured hyperinflation that occurred at the end of the 1980s and provided price stability needed for economic growth in the early 1990s. I found this to be an interesting topic that many people do not consider. Due to the competitiveness of sports or a performance setting, people are encouraged to continue training and to not take time off. However, excessive training can lead to overtraining and burnout. This can then cause athletes to be more susceptible to injury, concerns in interpersonal relationships such as not having time to be with friends or added stress from parents, psychological concerns such as losing enjoyment for the activity, etc. That is why it is important to take time to prevent burnout from happening. Vaccines were first described by the philosopher Thucydides in 430 B.C. when he said that man would not get the chicken pox twice due to previous exposure.6 This was then expanded on by Edward Jenner in 1796, when he created the first official smallpoxvaccineand made it available to the public.2 Vaccines have become a highly debated topic in the medical field today. Although there are alleged negative side effects, the effectiveness of vaccines cannot be properly argued against. In figure 1 to the right, the cases of measles are shown over a 57 year period. Around 1965 when the vaccine was officially licensed, the number of cases dramatically dropped down to levels close to zero and has been steadily low ever since. Many think that this is a direct impact of vaccination. Others state increasingly clean standards of living and overall human advancement as the cause and discount the apparent achievements of vaccines. There have been many groups formed over the years that are against vaccines and try to show the public the ineffectiveness and danger of these immunizations. In 1870, the Anti Vaccination Society of America was formed.18 This led to many battles in court and one case went all the way to the Supreme Court. • 29. Compare And Contrast Odysseus And Robin Hood Throughout history, no matter the number of times heroes change, the foundation of what makes a hero stays the same. In order to stay relevant to the times, Modern heroes, such as Robin Hood, can appear very different from classical heroes, like Odysseus, but they will always be very skillful with a weapon yet suffer from hubris. Therefore, Homer s The Odyssey, the 13th century Rifson ballad, and Pyle s The Merry Adventures of Robin Hooddepict that Odysseus and Robin Hood are similar in the skill of archeryto outwit each of their respective enemies and hubris, a flaw which directly aligns with glory. Odysseus and Robin Hood are similar in many ways. For example, they are both skillful in archery. When Odysseus finally reveals himself to the suitors, he proves his identity by effortlessly stringing his bow. When he releases, the arrow shoots from the bow clean as a whistle through every socket of the axes (Homer XXI. 481 482). The suitors are impressed with his ability to perfectly string the bow and shoot it, a task many of them fail to complete. Odysseus disguise of the old man allows him to use the element of surprise, dumbfounding the suitors, with his ability to shoot the great bow. Odysseus then slaughters the suitors who have been drinking all his wine, eating his food, and pursuing his wife. Similarly, Robin Hood uses his advanced skills in archery to win the hand of the princess and beat his enemy, the sheriff. When the sheriff holds an archery match in order ... • 31. A Comparison Of Everything Will Be Okay And Stray Most people from an early age have a dream; often people give up on them and most of the time around middle school or late elementary school. It is the prime time where everyone gets discouraged by bullying and the realization that life is tough that dawns in the child s mind around this time. The discouraging factor could also be due to an unsupportive family, which is shown primarily by the short stories Everything Will Be Okay by James Howe and Stray by Cynthia Rylant. The main characters in each story have a conflict over a desire. In Everything Will Be Okay Our main character loses the argument in the end and the kitten he desperately wanted to keep the cat, but he learns the invaluable lesson not to give up on your dreams.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Doris Turned around. What? I said, you had better feed your dog. This clearly shows she has won the argument about keeping the dog. Her father would never say it if the dog was at the pound. Doris did not give up and won the argument and she never gave up on the dog. Thus clearly shows that it is worth it to keep pushing on even if the first response is negative. To continue on, In both stories the main characters have a enemy as far as keeping their respective pets. Their own families, in fact. The driving force in both of these stories is the characters in the story having to fight for their case. We know in Everything Will Be Okay the main reason the family will not keep the kitten is its health. The cat would be expensive to fix. We know this is the main reason from the quote, Well, she happens to be right, Paul tells me. With an animal that far gone, you do not have a choice. It has to be put to sleep. With an animal that far gone, he means it is deathly sick. If it the main reason against the cat was the family just does not like animals or someone in the house has an allergy, he would have mentioned it. In stray, the family is poor, but the dog is in relatively good condition, certainly better than the kitten in Everything Will Be Okay. The Change Process Essay At the beginning of the change process, a crucial aspect for Ghosn was the importance and the need for an open communication in both directions: from upper management to lower management and vice versa. Before he took over the position of the COO at Nissan, he traveled to Japan to gather information from the lower level managementup to the top level management. Clampitt, DeKoch, and Cushman outlined different communication strategies, which can be found in Ghosn s communication style. They authors defined the communication strategies based on communication effectiveness and amount of informational transmitted and emphasized that leaders can use the strategies simultaneously (Palmer et al., 2009, p. 305). In the case of Nissan, Ghosn followed the device of transparency to regain credibility, and thus he transmitted an enormous amount of information. Furthermore, the communication effectiveness was middle to high since Ghosn provided detailed information to the people involved in the change. He wanted to avoid confusions, and thus he shared a maximum of information (Hughes et al., 2003, p. 6). Ghosn also engaged people being a part of the change discussion, as an example: He defined the CFTs, which had the challenge to identify the change actions and obstacles. Thus, Ghosn s communication strategy (at least based on the case study) was a mix of tell and sell and underscore and explore (Palmer et al., 2009, p. 306). Plamer et al. Ex offenders have a hard time finding long standing, good paying employment because of the barriers they face. One of those barriers is a lack of skills needed to gain employment (Holzer, Raphael, and Stoll 4 5). Many offenders are both undereducated and unemployed when they enter prison, and while in prison, often fail to gain adequate education or skills because there are no resources offered to acquire these skills (Smith). Also, employers fear hiring ex offenders because of their criminal past. John Rakis, who wrote, Improving the Employment Rates of Ex Prisoners Under Parole, says many employers have a prejudice, against hiring an ex offender (Rakis 8). Along with employers being wary of a criminal past, ex offenders also have large gaps in their employment history, as a result of the time served in prison. These gaps cause ex offenders to appear as undependable employees, and employers become hesitant of hiring the ex offenders (Bracey 253). • 46. Willa Cather s O Pioneers ! Cather portraying herself in the characters and the flipped gender roles Considering I am one of the only two males in the Intro to Women s Literature class, I felt moved to touch on Willa Cather s flipping of the gender roles in the book O Pioneers! I will be using my own opinion in this essay, along with textual evidence to back up my claims. I will also be establishing connections between Cather s portrayals of herself within the themes and characters in the book. As we know, Willa Catherwas very open about her sexuality and her feelings towards women. She dressed like a man for most of her life and even in her college days at the University of Nebraska Lincoln, she had a haircut much like mine. One fact that is very impressive about Willa Cather is that she lived this life of manhood during a time when that was extremely taboo. During the time Willa Cather grew up, men were the dominant ones that could do anything they please. The fact that Willa Cather broke through that stigma is inspiring to me, even as a male in the 21st century. My first quote gives us our very first physical description of the main character Alexandra She wore a man s long ulster (not as if it were an affliction, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I enjoy trying new things and am not afraid to be the example. In alignment with the survey, I have a lot of fun with my friends and coworkers but I take my duties and responsibilities very seriously. Sometimes after work we have training, I brief my staff and set expectations for their behavior. When dealing with such a young demographic, it is very important to set standards. I recall attending a training with my staff after an especially long day. Granted, the training was boring due to content and a dull facilitator in a warm room, but I was shocked by the behavior of the staff in the meeting. Staff would openly talk and obnoxiously eat crunchy food and be blatantly disrespectful. During our break I pulled eight staff outside to discuss their actions. It was amazing to me that they were clueless to how unprofessional they were. Their supervisors had not set expectations which lead to the staff embarrassing the entire company. In my workplace I enjoy creating harmony and meaningful relationships in all aspects;parents, students, staff and faculty. I recently was assigned a staff who needed a fresh start, a school where none of the parents or staff knew him. This was because he was transitioning from female to male, talk about modern issues in the workplace. Besides having a huge secrete that could potentially close my program (I was in a very conservative neighborhood), I had to take into account the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
