Being Bi-Racial in the Book Desiree s Baby Essay
Being Bi Racial in the Book Desiree s Baby Being bi racial was not an easy thing to be in the south
during the early 1900 s. In the story, Desiree s Baby, many situations occur that leave you wondering
about how society is so unfair. The main characters are Desiree, Armand, the baby, and Desiree s
mother. During this period, some found it acceptable to leave a baby on the doorsteps of a family to
provide a chance for a better life. This was an important point in the story; when the Monsieur found
the baby Desiree near the front gate, it would mean that Desiree would probably never be aware of her
biological parents ancestry. The chance a baby with both parents would be dropped off is not likely,
but was probable with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The death of his mother while living in France when he was eight years old may have had a negative
effect on his character. The way Madame Valmonde described the L Abri as a sad looking place,
which for many years had not known the gentle presence of a mistress , may have been a hint at
Armands evil nature being tied to having no maternal influence during most of his boyhood. Madame
Valmonde noticed the baby s mixed ancestry immediately when she went for a visit, exclaiming out
loud at first sight of him this is not the baby , Desiree thought she was referring to how big the baby
had grown. Madame Valmonde looked closely at the baby and new that it was indeed of mixed
ancestry but did not mention it to her daughter, this I believe was her way of hoping for the best.
Madame Valmonde was wealthy but knew her influence would not be enough to help if anyone found
out the baby was black. This would also mean certain social destruction for Desiree having given birth
to a black child. The environment changed quickly on the L Abri and Desiree was not aware of the
circumstances that had changed it. Her husband had recognized that the baby was not white and had
turned into his old malicious self and was ignoring his family in vain. One of La Blanche s boys was
near the baby when Desiree noticed the resemblance of the skin color between the boy and her baby.
Desiree confronted Armand and asked him to explain what the baby s color meant and

excellent, dedicated teacher committed to her school and her students. One day during her last class of
the day she was busy working with a group of students facing the back of the class. When the bell
rang to leave, students grabbed their belongings as usual and walked out of the classroom. Mrs. Smith
noticed Jose Morales, a child new to the school, left the classroom very fast without a word. This was
unusual for him. A little later, when packing up her materials to leave, Mrs. Smith realized that her

Roanoke Voyage Research Paper
The Roanoke Voyages were England s first attempt at settling in North America. Sir Walter Raleigh
asked for Queen Elizabeth s permission to begin exploration and she agreed to let him organize the
expedition. However, he was not allowed to be physically involved in the actual voyages because she
believed he was a valuable asset to her and did not want him travelling far away. The first expedition,
in 1584, was an exploratory venture. Sir Walter Raleigh arranged for two ships to begin the
exploration. The two captains of the ships were Arthur Barlowe and Philip Amadas. They discovered
fertile land with plenty of game. The area, near the Pamlico and Currituck, would be a great place to
begin settlement. In addition to their own accounts of the journey, they also brought back two native
Americans, named Manteo and Wanchese, to help the English learn more about the land they may
eventually colonize. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This voyage was more of a military venture. It has since been named the Lane Settlement , after the
veteran Ralph who helped command the voyage and was later named governor of the settlement.
During his time in the New World , Lane directed parties to the North and West, to find more
information about potential places for settlement. Natives told tales of potential Gold mines and
calmer waters for better ship harbors. Hostility and violences between Lane s men and their primary
food and supply source, the Secotan tribe, forced the settlers to return to England. Fortunately, they
returned with detailed accounts of their experiences. Two major contributors of this information were
Thomas Harriot and John White. Harriot returned with descriptions of local plants, animals, and
people while White had drawn drawn useful maps along with watercolors of landscapes and natives he
had seen during his time spent at the Lane

Artificial Sweeteners Should Be Banned
Artificial sweeteners should be banned because of their harmful effects
Kaleb Kassaye
Nova Southeastern University
[Comp 1050 EV2: Kevin Dvorak] The use of artificial sweeteners in beverages and food has been on a
steady rise since 1969, the year it was authorized in the United States of America. The popularity of
artificial sweeteners has been on a rise because of the benefit that it is a zero calorie sweetener .Even
though artificial sweeteners have some great benefits many scientists believe that it causes adverse
effects such as cancer, weight gain and depression. I strongly believe that consumers are not aware of
the side effects of artificial sweeteners hence the increase in consumption since 1969.
Through extensive research, scientists have concluded that artificial sweeteners are carcinogenic; a
cancer causing agent. Scientific research has revealed that cyclamate in combination with saccharin,
the two main ingredients in artificial sweeteners, caused bladder cancer in laboratory rats. Though test
where not done on humans scientist believe that the long term effect of using artificial sweeteners
would lead to the same complications in humans. Amino acids are biologically important organic
compounds composed of amine and carboxylic acid functional groups. The human body needs amino
acids to thrive. It is documented that ingestion of high amounts of artificial amino acids found in
artificial sweeteners can have adverse effects on the human body such as cancer.

Analysis Of The Art Of War By Sun Tzu
Book Analysis: The Art of War by Sun Tzu Ancient Chinese scholar Sun Tzu wrote The Art of War
more than 2000 years earlier, probably for kings, generals and solders of his time. However, this book
is still relevant in this high tech modern world. It has still a powerful energy to work as a useful
guidance for modern times. The Art of War is actually about struggles and confrontation we all go
through in our daily lives. We as all face same kinds of dilemmas in our hearts and minds when it
comes to compete with real life challenges. Though the book was compiled as a military advice in
ancient times, it has potential to function as practical guide in all facets of life even today. This book is
guide for victory in life, but it is also about the art of war. At the same time, it is all about self
awareness. It says know the enemy and know yourself; in in hundred battles you will never be in peril
. This is how Sun Tzu emphasises the importance of knowing about yourself. To be able to be a
winner in the challenges of life it is important to know your strengths and weakness. If you are know
yourself very well you should not worry about anything. Sun Tzu has made it very clear that half
battle is won when you have a better understanding of yourself. However, if you neither know about
yourself nor about your enemy, it means you are at a very high risk every time you enter a
competition. Therefore, to be successful in life, one must be aware about both himself and the
opposing

Lord Of The Flies Evil Character Analysis
In William Golding s novel Lord of The Flies he shows how evil exists inside of everyone, it is the
situation a person finds themselves in allows evil to grow or be controlled. The three boys are an
example of this. Jack who only thinks about himself he wants everything immediately which makes
his evil grow. Ralph, however, thinks about others but at times can be selfish which can make his evil
grow, but Ralph tries to keep his evil at bay. Simon on the other hand only thinks about others, he does
not think about himself which stops his evil from arising. Therefore, control of the situation is control
of evil self.
To begin with Jack, Jack wants power and leadership. The situation Jack is in makes his evil grow.
Jack is letting the situation control him which is increasing the evil inside of him. The evil inside him
is making him more selfish and violent. For example, at the starting of the novel when Jack had failed
to kill the pig he cries to Ralph, [Jack] tried to convey the compulsion to track down and kill that was
swallowing him up. I went on. I thought, by myself The madness came into his eyes again. I thought I
might kill. (Golding 51). The quote shows how at the starting of the novel Jack had good inside of him
as he had feared killing an animal which makes sense as he is a kid. This shows that Jack was not evil
from the beginning. But the situation and atmosphere increase the evil inside of him when he says, I
thought I might kill this shows how the

Essay On Labeling Theory
Labeling theory is very much self explanatory. This theory states that people become criminals
because someone labeled them as one and this becomes part of their self identity. Having a label such
as a trouble maker could stick with you. Not only does this affect you at school, but at work, and to
anyone else who knows you have them label. This also very much goes along with stereotypes. If you
dress like a stereotypical gang member people are going to associate you with that and that will
become a part of your identity.
A person usually gets a label due to the social distance between the labeler and the labeled. There are
two main affect of labeling: creation of a stigma and the effect on self image. The creation of a stigma
can cause a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Cultural Policy in Taiwan Essay
Cultural Policy in Taiwan
Taiwan has its own very special government system. On the central government level (relevant to the
federal government), there are both president and premier in the system. The National Assembly is the
representation of all citizens to the president, and the Legislative Assembly is to the premier who is in
charge of the Executive Yuan, the top administrative body of Taiwan. The current National Assembly
is in charge of the change of constitution laws, while the Legislative Yuan makes all other laws.
The Council for Cultural Affairs reports directly to the Executive Yuan. It is one of the 17 Councils
that are under the governance the Executive Yuan, and it was founded on November 11, 1981. The
Council ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
All these above mentioned functions of the Council were conducted with a single Council body and
decided by the chairperson and the Board. The Council is also asked to promote Taiwanese/Chinese
culture internationally, and set up cultural divisions overseas. Although Taiwan is not a very big place
geographically, it does have a large population (about 230 million people). Keeping all these functions
in one body is not very keeping all the functions working effectively. As we discussed in class, some
of the functions in the Council s guideline can be separated to be mandates for setting up separate
department in a government (of any level), such as heritage preservation, cultural administrative body
and a separate granting agency, such as in Canada, on the federal level of arts and culture, there are
Department of Canadian Heritage, Ministry of Canadian Heritage, and the a separate arts granting
body, the Canada Council for the Arts. The Taiwanese Council for Cultural Affairs is aware of this, so
the Council has been promised recently in the most recent national elections that it is going to evolve
into the Ministry of Culture under the Executive Yuan, and a separate arts granting agency, National
Culture and Arts Foundation, was established in January 1996.

We Live In Such A World Claude Mckay Meaning
Imagine a world with joy and happiness everything is flawless,No racism, no violence, no poverty and
no hate; we live in a utopian world. We do not live in such a world, it is nothing like this. The poem by
Claude McKay and the picture by Brittany Jackson have expressed that this world is not as perfect as
we think it is. The poem written by Claude McKay and the picture by Brittany Jackson both describe
the theme of how hatred is so easily acted upon.
The picture that Brittany Jackson illustrates, describes anger. You can see the anger in this picture
because of how easily he is eating the world, if he was not so angry then he would not be eating the
world so easily. If he was happy then it might be hard for him to eat the world, that is if he has a
conscience. You can also see that the man is cutting the world with a knife and if you were to cut a
world, then it would need a tougher knife than just a butter knife. Another detail that expresses anger
is his grip around the knife. I know for me I would not be gripping ... Show more content on

The entire time, he is talking about birds but, that is just a metaphor. These birds kill so viciously, they
are not just killing gently, if even that is a thing but I mean it is not a hit and go. They make sure that
their prey is in pain and they do not stop until they are. Or they even make sure that the prey is in pain
but, leave and the birds do not put it out of misery. And tugging and tearing without let or pause (line
11), in this section of the poem, it shows how the birds attack. These birds are attacking and tearing
apart the prey and they do not stop. This just shows much more on how the birds are destroying.
Another quote from the poem, Their shadow dims the sunshine of our day. (Line 1) Always on the
darkest days that comes destruction, just as the quote said. Before the birds seeked out their prey, it
was the brightest day but, when they killed their prey, it got very cloudy and

A Research Study On Physician Assisted Suicide
Living Proof, Miss Evers Boys, and You Don t Know Jack are all movies based off of true events.
These three movies all faced ethical and unethical events. Living Proof has to do with a compassionate
research doctor that is trying to get a drug for breast cancer called Herceptin approved through the
Food and Drug Administration (FDA). This Film has some unethical and ethical events take place like
favoritism, the funding, and of course the process to get FDA approval. Miss Evers Boys had several
unethical events occur during the Tuskegee study. This study was to see if black men had the same
symptoms to syphilis as the white men did. In this film the providers lied to their patients, broke
confidentiality, and misrepresented theirself. You Don t Know Jack is a film about physician assisted
suicide. Is it ethical to be able to end your life at any given point and time that you want? Should be
allowed to legalized physician assisted suicide Jack is the physician in this movie that believes very
strong in people being able to have the assistants of a physician to end their own life.
Living Proof is a great film in my opinion. Dr. Slamon is a very compassionate doctor and never gave
up on his research or his beliefs. He made a lot of sacrifices when it came to family time while he was
trying to development Herceptin and going through the process of getting it approved through FDA.
When trying to get something FDA approved it can be tricky due to so many eligibility

Working Environment Gatherings Are Turning Out
Working environment gatherings are turning out to be more basic in today s associations.
Organizations are looking for the cooperative energy that creates when individuals meet up to take a

A group unites people with comparative hobbies and destinations. Cooperation starts with, and
manufactures connections among, a gathering of individuals who offer a typical intrigue or reason.
Working in groups permits people from diverse regions (e.g. projects, raising support, and advertising)

A Model of Task Group Development in Complex Organizations and a strategy of Implementation J.
Stephen Heinen, Eugene Jacobson(1976) said More successful utilization of little gatherings or groups
in an association has been recommended as a method for expanding inspiration at work, through
promising more prominent association and self rule in choice making, and for adapting to the dynamic
complexities of hierarchical life. Hierarchical and mechanical clinicians have been keen on the

Research Objectives and Questions
The broad aim of this proposed research is to examine Canada s ethnocultural diversity and the use of
CAM, specifically comparing the health seeking behaviour and care use behaviour of Canadian
residents of SSA origin with the rest of the populace. Additionally, the proposed research seeks to
critically examine geographical, economic, biological, socio cultural and prevailing health policy on
CAM, and how these broader factors contribute to the less use of CAM among the elderly as
compared to the younger people. These two broader aims are the gaps in CAM research both in
Canada and other western countries. The proposed research seeks to achieve the following specific
objectives:
1. Critically examine the link between ethnocultural ties of Canadian residents of SSA origin and their
use of CAM.
2. Compare and contrast the health seeking behaviour of Canadian residents of SSA origin and the
general population.
3. Critically examine the role of geographic and non geographic factors in accounting for the paradox
of ageing, multimorbidity, and the use of CAM (that is the less CAM use among the elderly in
Canada, even though they tend to be highly multi morbid)
Consequently, the proposed research focuses and seeking answers to the following proposed research
questions:
Does the ethnocultural background of Canadian residents of SSA origin influence their use of CAM
and the type of CAM used?
Are there differences in CAM usage behaviour between

Circe Of Aeaea Research Paper
The enchanting and comely sorceress Circe lived on the island of Aeaea. She welcomed Odysseus
sailors to her feast, but when they became greedy and devoured everything, she turned them into pigs.
They were treated like swine, placed in a pig pen and given fodder to eat. When Odysseus came to
rescue his men, she tried to turn him also into a pig, but he would not succumb to her dark magic as he
had been given a plant by Hermes to protect himself. Circe later went on to stay with Odysseus for
several years, until he and his men pleaded with her to return home. While he was leaving, Circe told
Odysseus only to descend to the Land of the Dead, and pay a visit to the blind prophet, Teiresias. I,
Circe of Aeaea, have often been portrayed as a cruel, monster who fed upon the misery of others. They
tell me that turning the men into pigs was evil and unnecessary. However, I must say, I did not do any
of this because I wanted to; I did it because they were behaving like untamable hogs and needed to be
punished. This is the real story of what happened, that fateful day when Odysseus, son of Laertes,

Toyota Manufacturing Liability And Negligence Regarding A...
Today s consumers, for the most part, consider buying a car one of the most important investments of
their life, next to buying their home. The average price for a new Toyota Motor Corporation vehicle
today is around $25,000 or more, with the company also manufacturing Lexus models. This solidifies
its rather large and costly importance in terms of budget for families and single consumers. As vehicle
technologies advance so do their expected safety ratings and features, which are often times important
selling points for both consumers and salesmen alike. However, there are still margins for error
regarding manufacturing and safety, which unfortunately results in loss of life at times for some
consumers, which puts Toyota at risk for being held liable concerning product liability and
subsequently negligence. One such case involving product liability and negligence concerning a
Toyota Motor Corp. vehicle is Saylor v. Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A, Inc. In order to understand our
rights as consumers we will examine, the specifics of the Saylor v. Toyota case, the outcome

him out but the doctor said he had schizophrenic symptoms and gave him anti depressants to help him.
This didn t help, he began stealing his mother s Adderall pills. He couldn t hold a single job. So his
mother kicked her schizophrenic son to the curb to deal with the problems. So he then moved in with
his dad. As you can tell by how this story ended it didn t help him at all. He only became worse and
worse and it lead to him having violent outbursts, breaking furniture. Then eventual he had an outburst
and killed his own father by stabbing him 50 times. It is hard not to feel bad for this kid. McClelland
also states that Houston isn t the only person in his family that had to deal with schizophrenia.
Apparently he wasn t the only one with mental health in the family. How could he have been helped?
McClelland then goes on to state all the ways that the options that he could have received are flawed
and showed be revised. He starts with how the police can help but even with their help things can get

The Person I Chose For My Research Paper
Dolly Parton
The person I chose for my research paper is Ms. Dolly Parton. I chose her because she is a wonderful
person and artist, she shows true country colors. She is the Queen of Country, The Backwoods Barbie,
The Queen of Nashville, and The Leading Lady of Country. Dolly Parton has constricted over 5,000

dead in the middle of something I m loving to do. And if that doesn t happen, if I wind up sitting in a
wheelchair, at least I ll have on my high heels. Dolly Parton

12 Angry Men Character Analysis Essay
In the movie, Twelve Angry Men, all of the characters have their own specific personalities. Jurors 1
through 12 all have gone through different life situations and come from different beginnings. On a
certain level, the jurors are all connected to each other in one way or another. That would be the
strength of the justice system. It brings people together that no one would have ever thought were
compatible to work with each other.
Juror 10 has a very specific personality that can be described in many ways. His character traits are
shown in Figure 1. He is very harsh towards the other jurors and doesn t care for any of them, making
the best shape to describe him a triangle. Secondly, Juror 10 is a hateful person and never likes when

Juror 8 was the only member on the jury that voted not guilty from the very beginning. For instance,
he states, There were eleven votes for guilty. It s not so easy for me to raise my hand and send a boy
off to die (Twelve Angry Men). In saying this, he shows that he actually cares about what happens to
the boy and wants to give him the chance of reasonable doubt. Secondly, he was very level headed
during all of the arguments and never got unhinged, making the perfect shape for his personality a
square. Next, the color of his figure (green) represents that he was a loyal and unchanging with his
opinion. After the 3rd time voting, he states, Not guilty (Twelve Angry Men). A square, the shape of
his personality, would appear to show that juror 8 is level headed and sure of himself. Since Juror 8
was so important, his shape size had to correlate. Also, he had a gargantuan effect on all of the other
characters throughout the whole storyline. Juror 8 didn t force his opinion onto all of the other jurors,
he just suggested and challenged their statements. For instance, after the first time voting, Juror 8 says,
I don t want to change your mind. I just want to talk for awhile. Look, this boy s been kicked around
all his life. You know, living in a slum, his mother dead since he was nine. That s not a very good head
start. He s a tough, angry kid. You know why slum kids get that way? Because we knock

Essay On Louis Zamperini
This book leaves a special place in my heart do to its patriotism and will power. When you read this
book it leaves you wanting to read more, It s a good read all the way through. This book tells a story
about a soldier and Olympic runner named Louis Zamperini who becomes a captive to the Japanese
and is imprisoned and question throughout his time there. While he is there he is treated harshly from
many of the soldiers they did not take a liking to him. The main antagonize was a man named the Bird
a Japanese head officer who puts Louie zamperini through most of his trials. When this war is done
and settled and Louie is freed he personally meets with every guard and officer that came in contact
with him. All of the guards accepted the meeting except the Bird he refused to see or speak ... Show

To me this shows how forgiving Louie is and how sorry the guards were that they had done this to
him. This book goes with history because it was during world war 2 and Louie was going to take part
into the Olympics which is a significant day in history It gives each country to show how great they
were, which is why they had Louie race the Japanese Olympic runner to show all the other American
prisoners and all the Japanese officer how great they were that they could beat the American Olympic
runner which made them think they were better that us. I don t know how this book could get criticism
it Is such a fantastic read. Louie Zamperini faces challenges such as Having to go to war when he was
training for the Olympics, being in a plane crash, Going to the Japanese concentration camps and
facing death many times. Its unbelievable to imagine all the things that have happened to this man and
he is able to come back home to his family and tell them about It. I imagine it was hard for him to

The Unreliable Narrator In Ford s The Good Soldier
The subject of The Good Soldier by Ford Madox Ford is good people. The theme of the novel is that
truly good people do not exist; any who claim to be are hiding sordid motives and problematic
passions behind the façade of being a good person. Literary forms that support this theme are point of
view, tone, characterization, and irony.
The point of view The Good Soldier is told from the limited first person perspective of John Dowell,
who is an unreliable narrator. Backpack Literature describes an unreliable narrator as a narrator who
intentionally or unintentionally relates events in a subjective or distorted manner (Kennedy 60). As a
reader, it is difficult to decipher whether Dowell is hopelessly naive and socially inept or a master
manipulator, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The insincerity stems primarily from the unreliable nature of the narrator and the impassivity from the
casual conveyance of the story and the narrator s revelations. Although the subtitle claims it to be A
Tale of Passion, the tone of the novel lacks empathy and passion from the storytelling. Dowell uses
hyperbole and attempts to play up hysterics to no avail. The bland, impassive narration of otherwise
dramatic events and characters create a dichotomy, which gives the tale a sarcastic attitude. This is
used when Dowell is attempting to show Captain Ashburnham in a good light, but instead reveals his
infidelities and naïve

A Brief Note On Fair Dealing And Fair Use
A recurrent theme evident throughout copyright literature is the comparison between fair dealing and
fair use. These provisions allow for additional rights to be awarded to users for educational or research
purposes. Their meaning and scope are defined by different legal systems, thus are not synonymous
terms. Fair dealing is a legal term pertaining to common law jurisdictions. It is used to establish
whether the use of a copyright material is lawful or whether it infringes copyright. With research or
private study as a central requirement, a two part test must be carried out with the purpose, the
character, the amount, the alternatives, the nature, and the effects of the dealing taken into
consideration. The introduction of the fair use model, with different elements to the US doctrine, is
highlighted by the Modernising Copyright Report 2013. With recent worldwide trends moving to a
fair use doctrine, there are many advocates promoting the method, considering it a highly flexible way
of enabling use of copyright works without infringement. Universities Australia, in its submission to
the ALRC discussion paper, believed the replacement of fair dealing exceptions with fair use would
enable academics to use copyright material in more advantageous ways currently afforded to the US.
Fair Tidmarsh also reach favourable conclusions, noting that it would allow copyright works to be
used in a way consistent with the greater public interest of facilitating

Personality Characteristics Of Personality Traits
In chapter one of the textbook, it describes how to define personality. There is no single definition of
the word personality. That is because it is used in so many different ways, and because one word
describing someone s personality can be interpreted many different ways. For example, if you describe
yourself as a happy person , that could mean something different to another person who also describes
themselves as happy . Your personality is an arrangement of personality traits that describe a
consistent style of emotion or behavior. Personality traits can be recognizable in various situations of a
person s life. A personality trait can be, shy or outgoing those words are describing a daily behavior
that, on average, is consistent with that individual. Personality is made up from all different parts
genetics, social class, family and peers. The textbook says, some psychologists view the influence of
peers on personality greater than the influence of family. (Cervone Pervin, 2013) This is why siblings
from the same family have different personalities. Peer groups socialize individuals; they create a
whole new set of rules for behavior. This can be seen especially in adolescence. Starting high school is
hard, because everyone is trying to figure out where they fit in. When you are that age, you need a
sense of belonging to feel complete. The people you find that you fit in with will likely influence the
person you will become. I was one of the youngest in my

and ending with people dancing to the beat of drums. There was a total of ten performances at the

there was poetry, and singing. Out of the ten performances, there were three that really had my
attention throughout the whole performance. These three performances were Excellence Funga Alfia

Causes Of Homelessness In Canada
b) Lack of supply Along with the presence of higher demand in the housing market of the country
already, the lack of supply of affordable housing in Canada has aggravated the crisis even more. Due
to the presence of excess demand in the market, the quantities of housing, especially the private sector
profit maximizing ones have increased the price of their housing facilities, which in turn has
contributed significantly to the already existing problems of homelessness in the country.
c) Increase in the inflow of new immigrants One of the primary reasons behind the rise in the issue of
homelessness in the country can be the recent trend of increased immigration in the country from
other parts of the world. Canada, in the last few years, has developed immensely regarding economic
and industrial aspects and the country currently boasts of its robust industrial, service and export
sectors, which in turn attracts a lot of potential workers from all over the world, for a better standard
of living. Apart from the employment sector, the education sector of the country is also one of the
primary attractions in the country. Canada has some of the finest universities in the world, which
attracts a huge number of students from across the country, which in turn increases the demand for
housing in the country, thereby increasing their prices.
d) Drug and alcohol abuse One of the contributing reasons behind homelessness in the country, which
is very subjective to Canada itself is the

Importance Of A Flower In My Life
Cake, flowers, presents, flowers, family, flowers. Never before did I think a flower could change my
life. The one flower, just one of millions, changed everything. It wasn t just a flower. No, it was far
more. Everything changed. The people, the places, the activities. Everything in my life changed. My
life was taken on a rollercoaster. It was flipped. It was turned upside turn. It climbed high, just to fall
back down. When it would reach the top of the climb, I would feel as if I was free falling and never
going to stop. My stomach would leap from my chest, just as it did the many times I was frightened. I
would corkscrew through uncertain times. Only it wasn t just on a ride. I couldn t tell myself it was
just for fun or that it was going to be over soon, because I didn t know that. My stomach would lurch
and I would sometimes just stay still, completely petrified. Not knowing what to do, who to talk to, or
what to say. I didn t know the next step I should take. Any one step in the wrong direction could make
me fall right off the track. Many times, I would try to take small steps, to avoid falling off the track.
Although, sometimes a roller coaster would come from behind and hit me. I didn t figure out who to
trust early enough and I would be on my own against the one who wanted my to fall. Then my mind
would go back to the flower. I can picture that flower in my head, like it was only yesterday. The
image is crisp in my mind. Some other things are

The, And, By Ernest Holmes
Ernest Holmes addresses a trepidation we may have when giving: our resources will be temporarily
depleted. It is common sense that the more we give, the less we have; but there is a principle at work
which defies common sense, because the appearance of loss and lack is deceptive. Once we have
sown a seed our hands are empty, but the soil is full and soon we will have our hands full with the
harvest of that seed. If we had held onto that seed, there would be no harvest and we would eventually
be empty handed. However, giving in a principled manner does not incur a loss, but gains. Giving, as
a matter of principle, is the difference between gaining more or having less. Of course, if we go
through the motions of giving appearing to give, but actually throwing money away in an unprincipled
manner, then we have simply wasted our time, and our treasure. Not every seed sown, grows; some
fall on hard, stony ground and never take root. Not every prayer is heard and answered; some fall on
deaf ears our own. Having ears, we hear not. Having eyes, we see not. And having our hands full, we
give not. It is a shame, because we could give, have and enjoy more.
DIMINISHED EXPECTATIONS
Holmes relates the responsiveness of Life to the idea that Nature abhors a vacuum. In an infinite
universe, there cannot be an empty void, a place where God is not. All space, all vessels, all containers
must be filled with something. So, when something is drawn out of one place, more is drawn

  • 4. Being Bi-Racial in the Book Desiree s Baby Essay Being Bi Racial in the Book Desiree s Baby Being bi racial was not an easy thing to be in the south during the early 1900 s. In the story, Desiree s Baby, many situations occur that leave you wondering about how society is so unfair. The main characters are Desiree, Armand, the baby, and Desiree s mother. During this period, some found it acceptable to leave a baby on the doorsteps of a family to provide a chance for a better life. This was an important point in the story; when the Monsieur found the baby Desiree near the front gate, it would mean that Desiree would probably never be aware of her biological parents ancestry. The chance a baby with both parents would be dropped off is not likely, but was probable with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The death of his mother while living in France when he was eight years old may have had a negative effect on his character. The way Madame Valmonde described the L Abri as a sad looking place, which for many years had not known the gentle presence of a mistress , may have been a hint at Armands evil nature being tied to having no maternal influence during most of his boyhood. Madame Valmonde noticed the baby s mixed ancestry immediately when she went for a visit, exclaiming out loud at first sight of him this is not the baby , Desiree thought she was referring to how big the baby had grown. Madame Valmonde looked closely at the baby and new that it was indeed of mixed ancestry but did not mention it to her daughter, this I believe was her way of hoping for the best. Madame Valmonde was wealthy but knew her influence would not be enough to help if anyone found out the baby was black. This would also mean certain social destruction for Desiree having given birth to a black child. The environment changed quickly on the L Abri and Desiree was not aware of the circumstances that had changed it. Her husband had recognized that the baby was not white and had turned into his old malicious self and was ignoring his family in vain. One of La Blanche s boys was near the baby when Desiree noticed the resemblance of the skin color between the boy and her baby. Desiree confronted Armand and asked him to explain what the baby s color meant and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Roanoke Voyage Research Paper The Roanoke Voyages were England s first attempt at settling in North America. Sir Walter Raleigh asked for Queen Elizabeth s permission to begin exploration and she agreed to let him organize the expedition. However, he was not allowed to be physically involved in the actual voyages because she believed he was a valuable asset to her and did not want him travelling far away. The first expedition, in 1584, was an exploratory venture. Sir Walter Raleigh arranged for two ships to begin the exploration. The two captains of the ships were Arthur Barlowe and Philip Amadas. They discovered fertile land with plenty of game. The area, near the Pamlico and Currituck, would be a great place to begin settlement. In addition to their own accounts of the journey, they also brought back two native Americans, named Manteo and Wanchese, to help the English learn more about the land they may eventually colonize. ... Natives told tales of potential Gold mines and calmer waters for better ship harbors. Hostility and violences between Lane s men and their primary food and supply source, the Secotan tribe, forced the settlers to return to England. Fortunately, they returned with detailed accounts of their experiences. Two major contributors of this information were Thomas Harriot and John White. Artificial Sweeteners Should Be Banned Artificial sweeteners should be banned because of their harmful effects Kaleb Kassaye Nova Southeastern University [Comp 1050 EV2: Kevin Dvorak] The use of artificial sweeteners in beverages and food has been on a steady rise since 1969, the year it was authorized in the United States of America. The popularity of artificial sweeteners has been on a rise because of the benefit that it is a zero calorie sweetener .Even though artificial sweeteners have some great benefits many scientists believe that it causes adverse effects such as cancer, weight gain and depression. I strongly believe that consumers are not aware of the side effects of artificial sweeteners hence the increase in consumption since 1969. Through extensive research, scientists have concluded that artificial sweeteners are carcinogenic; a cancer causing agent. Scientific research has revealed that cyclamate in combination with saccharin, the two main ingredients in artificial sweeteners, caused bladder cancer in laboratory rats. Though test where not done on humans scientist believe that the long term effect of using artificial sweeteners would lead to the same complications in humans. Amino acids are biologically important organic compounds composed of amine and carboxylic acid functional groups. The human body needs amino acids to thrive. It is documented that ingestion of high amounts of artificial amino acids found in artificial sweeteners can have adverse effects on the human body such as cancer. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Analysis Of The Art Of War By Sun Tzu Book Analysis: The Art of War by Sun Tzu Ancient Chinese scholar Sun Tzu wrote The Art of War more than 2000 years earlier, probably for kings, generals and solders of his time. However, this book is still relevant in this high tech modern world. It has still a powerful energy to work as a useful guidance for modern times. The Art of War is actually about struggles and confrontation we all go through in our daily lives. We as all face same kinds of dilemmas in our hearts and minds when it comes to compete with real life challenges. Though the book was compiled as a military advice in ancient times, it has potential to function as practical guide in all facets of life even today. This book is guide for victory in life, but it is also about the art of war. At the same time, it is all about self awareness. It says know the enemy and know yourself; in in hundred battles you will never be in peril . This is how Sun Tzu emphasises the importance of knowing about yourself. To be able to be a winner in the challenges of life it is important to know your strengths and weakness. If you are know yourself very well you should not worry about anything. Sun Tzu has made it very clear that half battle is won when you have a better understanding of yourself. However, if you neither know about yourself nor about your enemy, it means you are at a very high risk every time you enter a competition. Therefore, to be successful in life, one must be aware about both himself and the opposing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Lord Of The Flies Evil Character Analysis In William Golding s novel Lord of The Flies he shows how evil exists inside of everyone, it is the situation a person finds themselves in allows evil to grow or be controlled. The three boys are an example of this. Jack who only thinks about himself he wants everything immediately which makes his evil grow. Ralph, however, thinks about others but at times can be selfish which can make his evil grow, but Ralph tries to keep his evil at bay. Simon on the other hand only thinks about others, he does not think about himself which stops his evil from arising. Therefore, control of the situation is control of evil self. To begin with Jack, Jack wants power and leadership. The situation Jack is in makes his evil grow. Jack is letting the situation control him which is increasing the evil inside of him. The evil inside him is making him more selfish and violent. For example, at the starting of the novel when Jack had failed to kill the pig he cries to Ralph, [Jack] tried to convey the compulsion to track down and kill that was swallowing him up. I went on. I thought, by myself The madness came into his eyes again. I thought I might kill. (Golding 51). The quote shows how at the starting of the novel Jack had good inside of him as he had feared killing an animal which makes sense as he is a kid. This shows that Jack was not evil from the beginning. But the situation and atmosphere increase the evil inside of him when he says, I thought I might kill this shows how the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

We do not live in such a world, it is nothing like this. The poem by Claude McKay and the picture by Brittany Jackson have expressed that this world is not as perfect as we think it is. The poem written by Claude McKay and the picture by Brittany Jackson both describe the theme of how hatred is so easily acted upon. The picture that Brittany Jackson illustrates, describes anger. You can see the anger in this picture because of how easily he is eating the world, if he was not so angry then he would not be eating the world so easily. If he was happy then it might be hard for him to eat the world, that is if he has a conscience. You can also see that the man is cutting the world with a knife and if you were to cut a world, then it would need a tougher knife than just a butter knife. Another detail that expresses anger is his grip around the knife. I know for me I would not be gripping ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Research Objectives and Questions The broad aim of this proposed research is to examine Canada s ethnocultural diversity and the use of CAM, specifically comparing the health seeking behaviour and care use behaviour of Canadian residents of SSA origin with the rest of the populace. Additionally, the proposed research seeks to critically examine geographical, economic, biological, socio cultural and prevailing health policy on CAM, and how these broader factors contribute to the less use of CAM among the elderly as compared to the younger people. These two broader aims are the gaps in CAM research both in Canada and other western countries. The proposed research seeks to achieve the following specific objectives: 1. • 19. Circe Of Aeaea Research Paper The enchanting and comely sorceress Circe lived on the island of Aeaea. She welcomed Odysseus sailors to her feast, but when they became greedy and devoured everything, she turned them into pigs. They were treated like swine, placed in a pig pen and given fodder to eat. When Odysseus came to rescue his men, she tried to turn him also into a pig, but he would not succumb to her dark magic as he had been given a plant by Hermes to protect himself. Circe later went on to stay with Odysseus for several years, until he and his men pleaded with her to return home. While he was leaving, Circe told Odysseus only to descend to the Land of the Dead, and pay a visit to the blind prophet, Teiresias. I, Circe of Aeaea, have often been portrayed as a cruel, monster who fed upon the misery of others. They tell me that turning the men into pigs was evil and unnecessary. However, I must say, I did not do any of this because I wanted to; I did it because they were behaving like untamable hogs and needed to be punished. • 20. Toyota Manufacturing Liability And Negligence Regarding A... Today s consumers, for the most part, consider buying a car one of the most important investments of their life, next to buying their home. The average price for a new Toyota Motor Corporation vehicle today is around $25,000 or more, with the company also manufacturing Lexus models. This solidifies its rather large and costly importance in terms of budget for families and single consumers. As vehicle technologies advance so do their expected safety ratings and features, which are often times important selling points for both consumers and salesmen alike. However, there are still margins for error regarding manufacturing and safety, which unfortunately results in loss of life at times for some consumers, which puts Toyota at risk for being held liable concerning product liability and subsequently negligence. One such case involving product liability and negligence concerning a Toyota Motor Corp. vehicle is Saylor v. Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A, Inc. In order to understand our rights as consumers we will examine, the specifics of the Saylor v. The theme of the novel is that truly good people do not exist; any who claim to be are hiding sordid motives and problematic passions behind the façade of being a good person. Literary forms that support this theme are point of view, tone, characterization, and irony. The point of view The Good Soldier is told from the limited first person perspective of John Dowell, who is an unreliable narrator. • 28. A Brief Note On Fair Dealing And Fair Use A recurrent theme evident throughout copyright literature is the comparison between fair dealing and fair use. These provisions allow for additional rights to be awarded to users for educational or research purposes. Their meaning and scope are defined by different legal systems, thus are not synonymous terms. Fair dealing is a legal term pertaining to common law jurisdictions. It is used to establish whether the use of a copyright material is lawful or whether it infringes copyright. With research or private study as a central requirement, a two part test must be carried out with the purpose, the character, the amount, the alternatives, the nature, and the effects of the dealing taken into consideration. The introduction of the fair use model, with different elements to the US doctrine, is highlighted by the Modernising Copyright Report 2013. With recent worldwide trends moving to a fair use doctrine, there are many advocates promoting the method, considering it a highly flexible way of enabling use of copyright works without infringement. Universities Australia, in its submission to the ALRC discussion paper, believed the replacement of fair dealing exceptions with fair use would enable academics to use copyright material in more advantageous ways currently afforded to the US. • 29. Personality Characteristics Of Personality Traits In chapter one of the textbook, it describes how to define personality. There is no single definition of the word personality. That is because it is used in so many different ways, and because one word describing someone s personality can be interpreted many different ways. For example, if you describe yourself as a happy person , that could mean something different to another person who also describes themselves as happy . Your personality is an arrangement of personality traits that describe a consistent style of emotion or behavior. Personality traits can be recognizable in various situations of a person s life. A personality trait can be, shy or outgoing those words are describing a daily behavior that, on average, is consistent with that individual. Personality is made up from all different parts genetics, social class, family and peers. The textbook says, some psychologists view the influence of peers on personality greater than the influence of family. (Cervone Pervin, 2013) This is why siblings from the same family have different personalities. Peer groups socialize individuals; they create a whole new set of rules for behavior. This can be seen especially in adolescence. Starting high school is hard, because everyone is trying to figure out where they fit in. When you are that age, you need a sense of belonging to feel complete. The people you find that you fit in with will likely influence the person you will become. I was one of the youngest in my ... Causes Of Homelessness In Canada b) Lack of supply Along with the presence of higher demand in the housing market of the country already, the lack of supply of affordable housing in Canada has aggravated the crisis even more. Due to the presence of excess demand in the market, the quantities of housing, especially the private sector profit maximizing ones have increased the price of their housing facilities, which in turn has contributed significantly to the already existing problems of homelessness in the country. c) Increase in the inflow of new immigrants One of the primary reasons behind the rise in the issue of homelessness in the country can be the recent trend of increased immigration in the country from other parts of the world. • 34. The, And, By Ernest Holmes Ernest Holmes addresses a trepidation we may have when giving: our resources will be temporarily depleted. It is common sense that the more we give, the less we have; but there is a principle at work which defies common sense, because the appearance of loss and lack is deceptive. Once we have sown a seed our hands are empty, but the soil is full and soon we will have our hands full with the harvest of that seed. If we had held onto that seed, there would be no harvest and we would eventually be empty handed. However, giving in a principled manner does not incur a loss, but gains. Giving, as a matter of principle, is the difference between gaining more or having less. Of course, if we go through the motions of giving appearing to give, but actually throwing money away in an unprincipled manner, then we have simply wasted our time, and our treasure. Not every seed sown, grows; some fall on hard, stony ground and never take root. Not every prayer is heard and answered; some fall on deaf ears our own. Having ears, we hear not. Having eyes, we see not. And having our hands full, we give not. It is a shame, because we could give, have and enjoy more. DIMINISHED EXPECTATIONS Holmes relates the responsiveness of Life to the idea that Nature abhors a vacuum. In an infinite universe, there cannot be an empty void, a place where God is not. All space, all vessels, all containers must be filled with something. So, when something is drawn out of one place, more is drawn ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
