Analysis Of The Green Mile
Good afternoon ladies and gentlemen of the Literary and Media Arts Festival. In today s session,
Novel to Film Adaptations Empowering the Marginalised Perspective, Frank Darabont s corrupt film
adaptation of, The Green Mile, will be exposed as a blatant juxtaposition of Paul Edgecombe s journal
on which it is based. Audiences are invited to follow the disturbing experiences and happenings upon
the green mile in 1932 at the Cold Mountain Penitentiary death row. The film constructs Percy
Wetmore as cruel, malevolent and aggressive, however, this is contrasted by the reality presented in
the journal, through which he portrays characteristics of dedication, determination and intuition. Three
scenes evident within both written evidence and film will be pinpointed in today s presentation
explaining why my client, Percy Wetmore has been unjustly represented. Firstly, the Squashing of Mr.
Jingles, secondly Delacroix s Execution, and thirdly, John Coffey s Arrival. It is apparent through the
examination of the character construction of Percy Wetmore within the film, that the representation
dehumanizes, exploits and manipulates the actions and intentions of Percy in a manner that is
discriminatory. The Squashing of Mr Jingles is a scene in the film which cleverly appeals to the
emotions of audiences, and is particularly significant as it further establishes the demonization of
Percy. In this particular scene a low camera angle, confronting sound effects and elusive dialogue are

Systems Theory Of Human Service Organizations
Human service organizations are there to meet the needs of people and help to prevent and solve
problems whilst improving or maintaining the quality of life of people. Human service organizations
have a modus of operation so as to deliver its services to the intended recipients. This modus emanates
from the systems theory which was introduced by biologist Ludwig von Bertalanffy in the 1940s, and
gained importance in the 1960s which permits analysis of the complex nature of human interactions
within a social environment. The systems theory is a way of elaborating increasingly complex systems
across a continuum that encompasses the person in environment (Anderson, Carter, Lowe, 1999). The
systems theory has three social level systems which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The closed system model relies on the internal processes of an organization and depends primarily on
the employees commitment to work and the way managers delegate and supervise employees. The
external environment does not influence any decisions in the organization this promotes homeostatic
balance and efficiency. The open system model, organizations are influenced by the external
environment (technology advancement, political decisions, culture and demographics of the
community) and rely heavily on constant communication between the organization and external
environment to create services for clients. There is more than one way of obtaining the same result
which is known as equifinality.
Bureaucracy is a system that is used by human service organizations as a way to create the structure of
an organization to ensure efficiency and effectiveness of management and delivery of services.
Bureaucracy is a classical theory that was developed by Max Weber, and focuses on what the
managers and employees do to achieve positive results by the use of five principles. However the
system of bureaucracy affects the application of social service delivery to clients or recipients of
intended services because social services require timely responsiveness to various

The Downfall of the Black Panther Party Essay
The Downfall of the Black Panther Party
The Black Panther Party was the most influential revolutionary group during the Civil Rights
movement era. The BPP became a very strong political power. It influenced many government
decisions and attracted the mass media. Yet, due to a number of reasons the BPP eventually collapsed.
The Black Panther Party came to its demise due to government operations against it, various mistakes
by the Party itself, and by short comings by its own leaders.
The most devastating cause of the BPP s demise was programs ran by the Federal Bureau of
Investigation aimed at breaking up the party. The FBI was mostly responsible for the eventual
breakup. In the 1960s, the FBI had a secret program to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These agents also fabricated information when arresting members and when trials were held. This
even included intimidation of witnesses and coercion. As Hilliard noted, the Bureau concocted a
threatening letter to jurors, during the Chicago Eight conspiracy trials in efforts to obtain convictions
(179). Indeed, these tactics used by the FBI crippled and eventually broke up the BPP Party.
In the same way, the FBI s actions were not solely responsible for the BPP s demise. In fact, various
BPP mistakes caused its own downfall. The most serious structural flaw in the BPP was the way it
carried out operations. Party members who openly worked in BPP offices or organized in the
community daily, were the same people who carried out underground armed operations at night.
Naturally, this provided the police with a convenient excuse to make raids on any BPP offices or the
homes of the members. Such raids forced the party to make stationary defenses of the BPP offices.
Unfortunately, since there was no separation between the daily operations and the underground armed
apparatus, the Party became doomed.
In addition, although the BPP was proficient at the art of propaganda making very good use of its own
and the establishment s media, too many Panthers still fell into the habit of making boisterous claims
in the public media that they could not back up.

Horse Descriptive Writing
I stood in the car park of the livery yard anxiously waiting, with a new lead rope in my hands, for him
to arrive. I had checked the time on my phone about a hundred times. They were due any minute now
and I could hardly contain my excitement. To waste a little time, I ran back to the stable to check it
was ready for him, although of course I knew it was. The earthy smell of freshly laid wood chips filled
my nostrils. My mother shouted, They are here and I turned to watch a horse box trundle into the yard.
This was actually happening.
Every young girl has their fantasies; from becoming a pop star to flying around outer space. Well,
mine was to have my own horse. For as long as I can remember I have been obsessed with horses,
ponies, donkeys, basically everything and anything related to these fabulous, four legged, beautiful
beasts. Some of my first memories are of me sat on the floor of my ... Show more content on

I can still picture the horror on my mother s face as I thundered past her in the stubble fields, Arron at
full gallop and mystified, she often asks, How did I end up with such a horsey daughter? In contrast,
the smile on my face reached from ear to ear and I m sure Arron was smiling too, an enormous, toothy,
grin. Horses love speed as much their riders. By the time I was riding Arron, almost eight years had
passed since that first lesson. That childhood obsession with horses had not gone away, if anything, it
had intensified and at weekends I virtually lived at the stables. A friend owned Arron and even though
I rode her regularly, fed, watered and mucked out her stable every day, essentially catered for all her
needs, she wasn t mine. Furthermore, I knew that one day we would go our separate ways so I always
held back a little, never letting myself get too attached to her, in anticipation of the day we would say
goodbye to each other. She was the last horse I rode before

Essay on The Sarbanes-Oxley Act
There are so many organizations today that are using the Sarbanes Oxley (SOX) legislation that helps
to safeguard their company and their financial records. The Sarbanes Oxley act began in 2002 and the
purpose behind this act was to protect organizations, it had a major impact on accounting and record
keeping. Because of Enron, they passed this act for publicly traded corporations to better implement
control to their enterprise data. Named after Senator Paul Sarbanes and Representative Michael Oxley,
who also set a number of deadlines for compliance (SOX Law ). The Sarbanes Oxley Act is arranged
into eleven titles, but the most important sections within these are often considered to be 302, 401,

Protiviti an independent global risk and internal audit advisory firm, surveys client attitudes about the

Facet Joint Essay
The facet joint, also known as the zygapophyseal joint, exists between the inferior articulating process
of one vertebra and the superior articulating process of the successive, caudal vertebra. This joint
exists between vertebrae in the cervical, thoracic, and lumbar back. Facet joints allow flexion,
extension, and twisting of the back while also restricting this movement so as to prevent injury and
insure stability (_________). A capsule filled surrounds the joint, providing nutrients, protection, and
lubrication.
Chronic lumbar facet joint pain affects one or more joint in the lumbar spinal and is relayed to the
brain via the medial branch nerve. The medial branch originates from the dorsal ramus, an off shoot of
the spinal root nerve. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

far greater than those determined with EMG (Westin et al., Clin Neurophysiol 2014; 125: 142 147). As
such, low levels of muscle activation (i.e. threshold) cannot be reliably discerned by visual inspection.
Additionally, when ultrasonography was used as an additional visualization tool during clinical

My Experience In My Family
The environment in which I was raised was very thrilling. My family and close friends have had such
an impact on my life and I ll always be so grateful for them. They are very encouraging and always
keep an open mind. I ve learned so much within my seventeen years of life. As I ve been growing up
they ve helped me realize that It s okay if it s not right just keep moving and don t take the melancholy
parts of life too hard, always learn to be and have a sanguine attitude. They re always proud of me no
matter what I do or who I am. Growing up it was a must to have a celebration no matter where or what
it was. Every weekend my dad would go outside and blast music up until two or three in the morning.
He always told me that life is kind of like a party so I need to learn to enjoy it. These celebrations
meant so much to me because we d always end up having hearty profound conversations. We d always
talk about how either he s so proud of me or he share stories of his childhood and tell me i m doing
what he can t. I think that s why it means so much to me because the fact that I m making my parents
proud and doing what they can t means the world to the both of us and I feel honored that, that s what
I m doing. Just last night I told my parents that I was thinking about enlisting into the Air Force. In my

Symbols and Journey Used in Ellison s Book Invisible Man ...
In the book Invisible Man by Ralph Ellison and the play Death of a Salesman by Arthur Miller the two
writers use various symbols to develop the American Literature Theme of The Journey. Two important
symbols Ellison uses in Invisible Man are dreams and the narrator s briefcase. Two important symbols
in Death of a Salesman are diamonds and the car. Ellison and Miller use these symbols to take their
characters through their life s journey, whether physical or metaphorical. The portentous dream the
narrator has in the beginning of Invisible Man foreshadows his whole journey throughout the book. In

The briefcase holds the contents of the narrator s past; it haunts him and he cannot relieve himself of it
until the very end. When he is burning the contents he becomes a phoenix rising from the ashes to a
new life, a new journey. Within the briefcase is his high school diploma, the piece of paper with his
new identity on it that was given to him by the Brotherhood, Clifton s doll, the anonymous letter from
Jack. All of these things were a part of his old identities, always with him in that briefcase. In Death of
a Salesman, the diamonds are Willy s past and future, what could have been and what could be. Ben
tells Willy in one final scene, The jungle is dark but full of diamonds, Willy. One must go in to fetch a
diamond out. It s dark there, but full of diamonds (Miller 1993). Willy had the opportunity to go with
Ben to find real diamonds, real happiness. He missed his first chance and instead he must now die to
find the happiness, the diamond in the rough. The car is the way for Willy to reach true happiness, no
worries; a means of transportation eventually to Willy s death. Willy s life never amounted to anything
much in the end and he needed to escape. The car is his ferry to the afterlife, to his happiness. The first

hoary Spirit of Ireland campaign helped Jameson become the world s fastest growing international
spirit and fastest growing whiskey. Then the What s The Rush? campaign stressed the importance of
people stretching out to enjoy themselves with friends in the face of increasingly frenetic lifestyles

Thomas Hardy s Tess Of The D Urbervilles
The Victorian Era allowed England to become one of the most balanced and established countries
through the reign of Queen Victoria. The civil service system created labor laws, universal education
for children, and even enriched its population with the right to vote. Despite an increase of meaningful
reforms and additional welfare for the England s citizens, the interpretation of religion in the country
began to alter as well. The actions of parliament and the Victorian Society had enormous effects on the
people and the way they viewed English society. Thomas Hardy s novel, Tess of the D Urbervilles,
depicts the consequences of uncontrollable forces on the lives of the Christians through the form of
tragedies during England s Victorian Era. The society of England in the 1800 s changed drastically
through the rule of Queen Victoria and even changed the country s views of religion and class
divisions. Thomas Hardy, born on June 2, 1840, in Higher Bockhampton, Dorset, England, was the
eldest son of Thomas Hardy and Jemima Hardy. His mother influenced his love of reading and
writing, ultimately impacting his future career. Hardy grew up in a mostly rural lifestyle and his only
primary education lasted until he was sixteen years of age, before departing to become an apprentice
of John Hicks and follow in the footsteps of his father. Hardy s first choice was to become an Anglican

Quartz is a continuous framework of the mineral silicon oxygen tetrahedra that makes up the second
most common mineral found in the earth s crust. Citrine is a variation of quartz that is gemstone
quality and is a pale yellow to golden orange in color whose name comes from the french word Citron,
meaning Lemon. Most citrine available today is manufactured by a heat treatment that forms the
golden color. Natural citrine is fairly rare so it is more valuable and generally ranges from a light
yellow to golden and often has brown undertones. Deeper colors of golden to golden brown are
considered more desirable and more rare. Most heat treated citrine will show slight reddish tints, not
usually present in natural citrine. The color is formed by oxidation levels of iron ions in the quartz, as

Comparing Plato, Descartes, And The Matrix
Plato, Descartes, and the Matrix
Latalvin Bullock
Liberty University
Is what I am seeing real or is it a figment of my imagination? Many people have found themselves
asking this question at some point in their life. This has been a subject that has been addressed by
many philosophers. In this paper the approach to this topic is centered on Plato s The Allegory of the
Cave and Descartes s Meditation I of The Things Which We May Doubt as compared to the movie
The Matrix. One of the most obvious similarities of the three passages is that they all call in to
question what reality is. In The Matrix reality is conceived through a computer. The computer
simulates the peoples perception of reality. They are not truly aware of their own reality because ...

But through their connection and manipulation of the computer they believe that what they are living
and seeing is real. When Neo agrees to take the red pill and follow Morpheus into the world of the
Matrix it disturbs him to see that people are living out a virtual reality that is not true reality. This calls
into question his own reality and was the life he was living real or imagined. Plato s Allegory of the
Cave also shows a distorted sense of reality. The prisoners believe that what they see through the
shadows is reality. Being tied by the fetters there is no way for them to see any other reality around
them. Based solely on what they see through the shadows are real to them. The shadows are an
artificial source of reality for the prisoners as the computer is an artificial source for those living in the
Matrix even though both the prisoners and those hooked to the computer feel that it is entirely real. In

Anger In His Sermon On The Mount
Anger
Anger is the very first sin that Jesus preached about in His Sermon on the Mount. You have heard that
it was said to those of old, You shall not murder, and whoever murders will be in danger of the
judgment. But I say to you that whoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of
the judgment. And whoever says to his brother, Raca! Shall be in danger of the council. But whoever
says, You fool! shall be in danger of hell fire. (Matt. 5:21 22) Raca is a strong word, which expresses
contempt. The word fool is a lighter word and is used of a person who lacks good sense.
Gregory the Great included anger in his list of seven deadly sins. Of course, every sin is deadly, but,
perhaps because anger is so

Fairytales In The Bloody Chamber By Angela Carter
Fairy tales often show that it is the boys and men who are the ones allowed to go on adventures and
save the day, Angela Carter changes that by making it that anyone even girls and women, can share
those same curious, adventurous, and even heroic characteristics. The term is mainly used for stories
with origins in European tradition and, at least in recent centuries, mostly relates to children s
literature. Fairytales have been around for a long time, starting off as oral stories later to be collected
by the Grimm brothers in the early 19th century. It is normally males that would gather fairy tales;
although women, especially elderly ones, were the best sources of fairy tales in many of the cultures.

Our names are what give us our identity. In fairytales it is no different, a name can be a powerful
thing. An example of this is in the tale of Rumpelstiltskin, just by guessing Rumpelstiltskin s name
breaks the bargain made for the first born child. In The Bloody Chamber, we know that the first person
narrator is female, but her name is unmentioned. This is difference between the original story and
Angela Carter s is in the original the wife is not addressed other than wife whereas as in the Bloody
Chamber is called by multiple names, but mostly pet names by her husband. She is called Madame by
workers at the castle and with some diminutive words such as My little nun, Baby (17), My little love,
and My child (18) by her husband. The female narrator labels herself by some words such as I, the
orphan, the châtelaine and I, the little music student (13), a little girl (18), child (18), and his bride
(13). It seems that she adopts the adjectives attributed to her by the outer world. On the other hand, the
man she marries to holds an ancestral name of The Marquis (36) which symbolizes mastery and
power, and the heroine calls the Marquis, my husband and my purchaser (15). Having these names in
the story not only gives the story a fable feel but also shows the power dynamic between the narrator
and the Marquis. The main character goes on to describe how the Marquis looks at her like a house
wife would look at meat at the supermarket, the narrator compares herself to a female figure in an
etching described as a lamb chop (17). Comparing herself to a lamb, which is normally seen as the
victim, and the Marques is equated to a lion, the hunter, shows that the narrator sees how the dynamic

Ecological Changes In Black-Tailed Prairie Dog Populations...
Introduction:
Although Colorado s growing population may be beneficial for the economy and social standings in
our country, it poses some ecological concerns. According to the Colorado State Demography Office,
Colorado s population has grown by nearly 75% since 1985 (Figure 1). In fact, Larimer County s
population has doubled in that same time period. It has become evident that changes in Colorado s
landscape have been altered due to this population boom. It is within our best interest to evaluate the
ecological concerns associated with such anthropogenic disturbances, specifically along the Front
Range of Larimer County. By observing and sampling areas where black tailed prairie dogs (Cynomys
ludovicianus) have settled, and where they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They have traditionally been viewed as competitors with cattle for rangeland resources, so eradication
programs have reduced populations to less than two percent of those several decades ago (Whicker
and Detling 1988). The Colorado Parks and Wildlife have now deemed this keystone species as a
species of concern due to sylvatic plague, direct loss of habitat to urban/suburban development,
habitat fragmentation, conversion of habitat to agricultural uses, systematic poisoning, recreational
shooting, and inadequate regulatory mechanisms. Our biggest concerns are focused on habitat loss and
fragmentation and systematic poisoning and how they connect to Colorado s growth in population.
The grasslands along the Front Range are primarily inhabited by native grasses including, needle and
thread grass (Stipa comata) and blue gramma grass (Bouteloua gracilis), as part of the primary
producers of the ecosystem. In areas where prairie dogs are present, native grass populations decline at
a rather quick rate and are often low in richness, evenness, and diversity (Beals et al. 2014). We will
look at how this affects the rest of the grassland ecosystem and changes it where trophic efficiency is
concerned. Prairie dogs are useful for trophic efficiency because they help maintain the growth of
primary producers in the grasslands.

The Effects Of Music Education On Children s Brain...
History Sings Good News for Musicians
Historically, there has been a debate among educators and researchers whether music education plays
a significant role in a child s brain development, intelligence quotient, social development and overall
success in life. Many believe the data has been unreliable because there is little to prove with absolute
certainty that those who participate in music education were not just born smarter. On the other hand,
substantial data has been collected in recent years that seems to clear up those questions of doubt. As
America s children continue to show a significant drop in their annual test scores, while
simultaneously demonstrating worsened behavior in school, answers are being sought from many

attention seeking, an absence of positive role models at home, low self esteem and family breakdown.
(Townsend, 2013) While there are many contributing factors to these heart breaking realities, I will
present how simply providing regular music lessons can be pivotal for a child. The diminishing
importance our culture is placing on the benefits of music education is impacting our nation s children
by limiting their potential in academic achievement, social development, and overall well being, but
we can resolve this problem in part by raising awareness about this vital issue.

Analysis of Main Characters in Murder on the Orient...
The scrapbook is about all the main characters in the book Murder on the Orient Express by: Agatha
Christie. They are all important in the book because without them there would not be a book or a story
written. They all play an important role in this story, and they help make this story interesting. The
first main character in the scrapbook is Hercule Poirot.
Hercule Poirot is extremely intelligent, and he is most well known for his curly moustache, and short
stature. He is a retired Belgian police officer, and is the most known detective. I put a big guy in a
police uniform, and police things around it. It has a police car, badge, flashlight, whistle, hot, and
police people.

other passengers on the train. I put her as a princess, with princess stickers on the next page.
Countess Andrenyi is a quite beautiful dark headed woman. She is the sister of Sonia Armstrong. She
did not kill Rachett, but people thought she did, and because of that he then tried to hide her true
identity, and changed her name on the luggage. I put a beautiful girl who looks quite in a picture, and
also a girl in jail. She is trying to hide from that because people thinks that she did kill Rachett.
Count Andrenyi is the husband of Countess Andrenyi he tried to take her place in the murder, and
helped her hide her identity, and because he is doing that he is becoming a defensive man. I put a man
who is confused, and in the picture it is saying, What should I do? He is trying to help his wife hides

Analysis Of The Play Othello
The play Othello , by William Shakespeare and film adaption by Oliver parker explores the idea of
how an individual s sense of identity affects their actions and how this can be manipulated to create
conflict. Shakespeare uses techniques such as soliloquies, dramatic irony, imagery, foreshadowing,
and symbolism to show us how tragedy occurs from counteracting to patriarchal rules and stereotypes.
Identity is a very key, important thematic issue in William Shakespeare s tragic play, Othello . Identity,
or what may be better explained as a character s public perception, is highly valued in the Elizabethan
Age in which Othello is set. There is a varying range between the characters in the extent that how
they are perceived in public is not how they behave in private or how they really are, thus creating
more than one identity per character. A character s identity is the overall essence of that character,
however, in plays such as Shakespeare s there must always be an element of tragic flaw to the play
thus creating conflict. The definition for conflict is a state of open, often prolonged fighting; a battle or
war. Opposition between characters or forces in a work of drama or fiction, especially opposition that
motivates or shapes the action of the plot. There are many ways in which this definition is represented
in Othello . The main conflicts in Othello are between friends and foes, Othello s inner conflict, and
cultural and racial differences, which lead to

Privacy Issues in Social Media Essay
Privacy Issues in Social Media Social Media is a current way in which people are using to interact
with one another daily. Since the launch of various Social Networking Sites (SNS) its been a huge
attraction in a new way to share information with others and correspond with interests of your choice
in many different forms. Although social media sites allow users to share information with friends and
other sites on the internet, many people are unaware of how their privacy is getting out. Now that the
expansion of global connection through these social media networking sites are so highly present in

social media network and the way we share things online transformed and expanded drastically. In
addition, during 2005, is when Youtube took off and started storing and retrieving videos for the

receive messages called tweets. By experience with using Twitter you can only send 140 words/

that hashtag and is related to one anothers tweets regardless of your privacy settings. . In Friends

Plum Point Park Essay
Issue Proposition Plum Point Park was once a place for sprouted overgrown weeds and rotting piers.
Through initiative and optimism, West Ghent Civic League proposed to transition the bleak plot of
land into a permanent park in the early 1990 s. 10 years and $1.5 million later, the park is now
considered an open natural refuge for local residents and home for various wildlife living along the
Elizabeth River. Granted Plum Point Park is an artificial park, there is still a lot of potentials that the
park can amount to. Due to the lack of green spaces and aesthetically appealing areas throughout the
park, the scenery can become very monotonous. In August of 2016, Global Shapers Norfolk (GSN)

LGBT Community and Discrimination.
When one hears the words LGBT and Homosexuality it often conjures up a mental picture of people
fighting for their rights, which were unjustly taken away or even the social emergence of gay culture
in the world in the1980s and the discovery of AIDS. However, many people do not know that the
history of LGBT people stretches as far back in humanity s history, and continues in this day and age.
Nevertheless, the LGBT community today faces much discrimination and adversity. Many think the
problem lies within society itself, and often enough that may be the case. Society holds preconceptions
and prejudice of the LGBT community, though not always due to actual hatred of the LGBT
community, but rather through lack of knowledge and poor media ... Show more content on

Data also showed Lesbian, Gay, and Bisexual youth were twice as likely than heterosexual youth have
considered attempting suicide in the past year (31 percent vs. 14 percent). Other research suggests that
youth that identifies as transgender or transsexual also experience emotional distress; one fourth
reported a prior suicidal attempt.
Research seems to supporting the theory that negative experiences resulting from LGBT stigma can
lead to chronic stress contributes to emotional distress among LGBT teens and adults. Many other
studies investigated the consequnces of stressor on the mental health of LGBT youth. These studies
usually find support for association among stressors associated with being LGBT and poorer mental
health.
Mediation analyses showed that perceived discrimination accounted for increased depressive
symptomology among LGBT males and females and accounted for an elevated risk of self harm and
suicide ideation among LGBT males. Perceived discrimination is a likely contributor to emotional
distress among LGBT youth. (Joanna Almeida)

Tokugawa Shogunate
Tokugawa Shogunate: Strengths and Weaknesses
Robert H. Webb
History 483
Professor John H. Sagers
6 August 2010
The death of emperor Hideyoshi and subsequent ascension to the throne of Hideyori in 1598 set into
motion events that would alter the political landscape in Japan for the next two hundred and fifty
years. Tokugawa Ieyasu, in his quest to become absolute ruler of Japan defeated Hideyori loyalists in
the battle of Sekigahara and was appointed Shogun by Hideyori in 1603. This military coup d état
effectively gave Tokugawa complete control of Japan and reduced the emperor to little more than a
figurehead in the governing of Japan. As history would show, the feudal system of government that
Tokugawa created ultimately led to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The primary beneficiaries of the emerging money economy were the merchants. Daimyo and samurai
traded their rice for money with the merchants who soon became very rich. Merchants, cashing in on
daimyo debt attained positions of authority within the daimyo households. Many were living lavish
lifestyles only dreamt of by samurai. This caused resentment in Japanese society because, although
they were socially inferior, merchants enjoyed an elevated status economically (Kunihiko 1997).
Perhaps the social class that suffered the most indignities was the samurai who, lacking the means to
earn a living on their regular income, indulged in the lifestyle of Edo. Many had to resort to engaging
in handicraft for income vice training at the martial arts thus leading to inherent corruption
(Nobumitsu 1997).
Ultimately, the Tokugawa shogunate wanted to maintain political and social stability in Japan. By
seizing power, Ieyasu was able to quell domestic unrest but another threat was still presented for total
control. Foreign influence proved to be a serious threat to stability within Japan. The initial threat to
Japan was presented by Christian missionaries. After an initial introduction to Christianity, the
shogunate conducted a purging and outlawed the religion. This led to a prolonged isolation of
Japanese society from Western influence. The shogunate wished to prevent daimyo from conspiring
with foreigners thus

Homosexuality In Dracula
The sexuality downplayed in the Victorian culture is able to be exploited in Stoker s writing because
of the social norm to express sexuality through literature. The cultural (literary and aesthetic) was
consumed with images of mystical, deadly and sexually enticing female subjects to exemplify what a
fallen woman is (Moore). A painting by E.C. Barnes made in the 1860 s shows the moral downfalls of
a woman working in a city. The insinuations of the painting direct the viewer into seeing the darkness
and negative connotations of a working woman. There are implications to what may happen to the
woman if she lets her guard down. Woman of the Victorian era are able to relate to these paintings and
pieces of literature. They are warned of the dangers of displaying sexuality and intelligence. Aside
from warning culture of the dangers of immorality, authors and artists are able to give pleasure to the
culture through their pieces. Because of the conservative society, being sexually immoral is forbidden.

And again, before we delve into the novel, it is important to establish some historical context of Stoker
s own struggle with homosexuality. Stoker is himself, a hidden homosexual. Dracula is written a
month after Stoker s longtime partner, Oscar Wilde, is imprisoned for his homosexuality. Watching his
friend go through trial must have caused many of the internally conflicting emotions which led Stoker
to personally view (and portray) any sexuality as a vile and painful source of evil and despair
(Podonsky). Stoker must have felt guilt from what Wilde went through and it must have cultivated a
hate towards the homosexuality in himself. Now that we know Stoker s experience with
homosexuality, we can see how he places it in such a bad light throughout

Obsession With Drag Queens
The Gayest Summer Ever My obsession with drag queens has intensified, especially over the past
couple months; and it all began when I went to my cousins house in St. Louis. Ronni and Dorothy are
my only cousins that are my age, and like me, they are both quite different from your average fifteen
year old girl. Their obsession with drag queens started long before I came over this year, so they
basically convinced me it was the best thing ever, and I haven t been the same since. Every summer
we plan to have a little get together type thing that usually lasts about a week, week and a half. When
Ronni and I were planning what all we would do, she told me we would be going to Pride St. Louis,

we got taco bell afterwards, so with that, I could sleep happily. As we arrived back at Ronni s house, I
got ice cream, and ran back to my room where my laptop was, and began my PCD (post concert
depression) stalking. I started by rewatching season 6, to watching live preformances on youtube, to
memorizing and buying every song she had written/sang. In other words, I was super sad to leave, and
I couldn t get enough of Adore Delano. I had to leave a couple days after Pride, so I still had PCD by
the time I got home. I began watching all of Rupaul s Drag Race and Rupaul s Drag Race Allstars, and
finished within a week. By then I had chosen a group of about 15 drag queens that I loved, and stalked
all of them. I also began getting into other queen s music, so now about 30 songs on my phone are

Why Factory Farms Are Cruel
Factory farms are cruel to animals and therefor people should not consume factory farmed poultry or
eggs from the poultry. Chickens in factory farms will never experience anything a natural and normal
life, they will never be able to perch, take dust baths, or even meet their mothers. ( Chickens Used for
Food. ) Even though chickens are just as intelligent as dogs they are put into stressful and harmful
conditions in these farms for their whole lives. Being put into a confined space causes a chicken and
other poultry lots of stress which can lead to violence amongst the birds. ( Farm Animals. ) Because of
this violence the birds have their beaks trimmed which can lead to chronic pain and reduced feed
intake. ( Current Developments in Beak Trimming. ) The problem of beak trimming and violence in
poultry could be solved if they could experience a normal life and have a large amount of space to live

of factory farms is that they create 700,000 jobs in the United States, However the workers are putting

LEITAX CASE ANALYSIS:

Digital camera market has enjoyed tremendous growth since it was introduced in the photographic
industry. Starting in 1998, price has been falling rapidly. In addition, the development of CMOS
allowed digital camera to not only capture professional market, but also enter consumer market. It was
estimated that in 2006 forecast would peak with 63% penetration rate for digital cameras in the US.
After 2006, the growth rate was expected to fall negative.

Before, the concept of demand forecast was to serve the key functional groups in achieving their own
interest. Facing the new challenges, forecast needed to be more accurate. And therefore it needed a
new concept that is to have a consensus forecasting that would accurately reveal market demand and
align the needs of key actors in the forecasting process. Leitax implemented two specific changes in
forecasting process. The first one is to switch the focus from sell in to sell through and second one is
to ignore capacity constraints.
QUESTION 3
The mission of the Forecast Re Design Team was to reduce expenses and risks associated with
production and costs of procurement, inventory, quality control and technical infrastructure.
According to Fowler, there were four objectives: (1), to reduce inventory levels across the supply
chain; (2) to increase velocity and accuracy of planning information throughout the supply chain; (3)
to increase supply upside and downside flexibility; and (4) to improve on time performance to
customers.
The projects require individuals who have good technical skills and forecasting and industry
knowledge. But more importantly, it needs people who could help implement the new changes. To be
more specific, the qualities are the leadership abilities to shape an organization and know how to

Who Is Esther Greenwood In Sylvia Plath s The Bell Jar
Depressions often personified as a villain that traps people and does not let them go. This is a claim
most of its victims would agree with, especially Esther Greenwood. The Bell Jar, written by the Sylvia
Plath, follows Esther Greenwood s descent into and recovery from madness. Esther is a young and
brilliant writer, whose ambitions are stunted by a crippling depression. Plath, describes an outlook on
reality that is distorted by mental illness through the symbolism of the fig tree and the bell jar. The
indirect characterization of Esther also gives a perspective of this distorted reality. Though she wants
to move forward, her state of mind holds her back. Plath argues, that mental illnesses give one an

effective the treatment is known to be at the present time it was thought to be quite effective at that
point. However, Esther viewed it as a punishment, showing that unlike most people of the time Esther
sees the world in a different way. Her depression allowed her to have an enlightened perspective on

to look at themselves in a different and enlightened way. Esther understands that she, if she forgets her

  • 2. Analysis Of The Green Mile Good afternoon ladies and gentlemen of the Literary and Media Arts Festival. In today s session, Novel to Film Adaptations Empowering the Marginalised Perspective, Frank Darabont s corrupt film adaptation of, The Green Mile, will be exposed as a blatant juxtaposition of Paul Edgecombe s journal on which it is based. Audiences are invited to follow the disturbing experiences and happenings upon the green mile in 1932 at the Cold Mountain Penitentiary death row. The film constructs Percy Wetmore as cruel, malevolent and aggressive, however, this is contrasted by the reality presented in the journal, through which he portrays characteristics of dedication, determination and intuition. Three scenes evident within both written evidence and film will be pinpointed in today s presentation explaining why my client, Percy Wetmore has been unjustly represented. Firstly, the Squashing of Mr. Jingles, secondly Delacroix s Execution, and thirdly, John Coffey s Arrival. It is apparent through the examination of the character construction of Percy Wetmore within the film, that the representation dehumanizes, exploits and manipulates the actions and intentions of Percy in a manner that is discriminatory. The Squashing of Mr Jingles is a scene in the film which cleverly appeals to the emotions of audiences, and is particularly significant as it further establishes the demonization of Percy. In this particular scene a low camera angle, confronting sound effects and elusive dialogue are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Systems Theory Of Human Service Organizations Human service organizations are there to meet the needs of people and help to prevent and solve problems whilst improving or maintaining the quality of life of people. Human service organizations have a modus of operation so as to deliver its services to the intended recipients. This modus emanates from the systems theory which was introduced by biologist Ludwig von Bertalanffy in the 1940s, and gained importance in the 1960s which permits analysis of the complex nature of human interactions within a social environment. The systems theory is a way of elaborating increasingly complex systems across a continuum that encompasses the person in environment (Anderson, Carter, Lowe, 1999). The systems theory has three social level systems which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The closed system model relies on the internal processes of an organization and depends primarily on the employees commitment to work and the way managers delegate and supervise employees. The external environment does not influence any decisions in the organization this promotes homeostatic balance and efficiency. The open system model, organizations are influenced by the external environment (technology advancement, political decisions, culture and demographics of the community) and rely heavily on constant communication between the organization and external environment to create services for clients. There is more than one way of obtaining the same result which is known as equifinality. Bureaucracy is a system that is used by human service organizations as a way to create the structure of an organization to ensure efficiency and effectiveness of management and delivery of services. Bureaucracy is a classical theory that was developed by Max Weber, and focuses on what the managers and employees do to achieve positive results by the use of five principles. However the system of bureaucracy affects the application of social service delivery to clients or recipients of intended services because social services require timely responsiveness to various ... • 4. The Downfall of the Black Panther Party Essay The Downfall of the Black Panther Party The Black Panther Party was the most influential revolutionary group during the Civil Rights movement era. The BPP became a very strong political power. It influenced many government decisions and attracted the mass media. Yet, due to a number of reasons the BPP eventually collapsed. The Black Panther Party came to its demise due to government operations against it, various mistakes by the Party itself, and by short comings by its own leaders. The most devastating cause of the BPP s demise was programs ran by the Federal Bureau of Investigation aimed at breaking up the party. The FBI was mostly responsible for the eventual breakup. In the 1960s, the FBI had a secret program to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These agents also fabricated information when arresting members and when trials were held. This even included intimidation of witnesses and coercion. As Hilliard noted, the Bureau concocted a threatening letter to jurors, during the Chicago Eight conspiracy trials in efforts to obtain convictions (179). Indeed, these tactics used by the FBI crippled and eventually broke up the BPP Party. In the same way, the FBI s actions were not solely responsible for the BPP s demise. In fact, various BPP mistakes caused its own downfall. The most serious structural flaw in the BPP was the way it carried out operations. Party members who openly worked in BPP offices or organized in the community daily, were the same people who carried out underground armed operations at night. Naturally, this provided the police with a convenient excuse to make raids on any BPP offices or the homes of the members. Such raids forced the party to make stationary defenses of the BPP offices. Unfortunately, since there was no separation between the daily operations and the underground armed apparatus, the Party became doomed. In addition, although the BPP was proficient at the art of propaganda making very good use of its own and the establishment s media, too many Panthers still fell into the habit of making boisterous claims in the public media that they could not back up. ... • 5. Horse Descriptive Writing I stood in the car park of the livery yard anxiously waiting, with a new lead rope in my hands, for him to arrive. I had checked the time on my phone about a hundred times. They were due any minute now and I could hardly contain my excitement. To waste a little time, I ran back to the stable to check it was ready for him, although of course I knew it was. The earthy smell of freshly laid wood chips filled my nostrils. My mother shouted, They are here and I turned to watch a horse box trundle into the yard. This was actually happening. Every young girl has their fantasies; from becoming a pop star to flying around outer space. Well, mine was to have my own horse. I can still picture the horror on my mother s face as I thundered past her in the stubble fields, Arron at full gallop and mystified, she often asks, How did I end up with such a horsey daughter? In contrast, the smile on my face reached from ear to ear and I m sure Arron was smiling too, an enormous, toothy, grin. Horses love speed as much their riders. By the time I was riding Arron, almost eight years had passed since that first lesson. That childhood obsession with horses had not gone away, if anything, it had intensified and at weekends I virtually lived at the stables. A friend owned Arron and even though I rode her regularly, fed, watered and mucked out her stable every day, essentially catered for all her needs, she wasn t mine. Furthermore, I knew that one day we would go our separate ways so I always held back a little, never letting myself get too attached to her, in anticipation of the day we would say goodbye to each other. Additionally, a visible paraspinal muscle twitch at L5 is cannot be resolved through visual inspection, regardless of stimulation intensity. Clinical observations in the OR of both clinicians did, however, suggest that activation of the intrinsic back muscle at L5, can be recorded using EMG. Such use of EMG electrodes also allows for greater sensitivity to motor thresholds when compared to visual inspection. The motor thresholds that are identified visually, are far greater than those determined with EMG (Westin et al., Clin Neurophysiol 2014; 125: 142 147). As such, low levels of muscle activation (i.e. threshold) cannot be reliably discerned by visual inspection. Additionally, when ultrasonography was used as an additional visualization tool during clinical studies, sole activation of the multifidus muscle was seen without a visible paraspinal muscle twitch. As I ve been growing up they ve helped me realize that It s okay if it s not right just keep moving and don t take the melancholy parts of life too hard, always learn to be and have a sanguine attitude. They re always proud of me no matter what I do or who I am. Growing up it was a must to have a celebration no matter where or what it was. Every weekend my dad would go outside and blast music up until two or three in the morning. He always told me that life is kind of like a party so I need to learn to enjoy it. These celebrations meant so much to me because we d always end up having hearty profound conversations. We d always talk about how either he s so proud of me or he share stories of his childhood and tell me i m doing what he can t. I think that s why it means so much to me because the fact that I m making my parents proud and doing what they can t means the world to the both of us and I feel honored that, that s what I m doing. In the book Invisible Man by Ralph Ellison and the play Death of a Salesman by Arthur Miller the two writers use various symbols to develop the American Literature Theme of The Journey. Two important symbols Ellison uses in Invisible Man are dreams and the narrator s briefcase. Two important symbols in Death of a Salesman are diamonds and the car. Ellison and Miller use these symbols to take their characters through their life s journey, whether physical or metaphorical. The portentous dream the narrator has in the beginning of Invisible Man foreshadows his whole journey throughout the book. The briefcase holds the contents of the narrator s past; it haunts him and he cannot relieve himself of it until the very end. When he is burning the contents he becomes a phoenix rising from the ashes to a new life, a new journey. All of these things were a part of his old identities, always with him in that briefcase. In Death of a Salesman, the diamonds are Willy s past and future, what could have been and what could be. Ben tells Willy in one final scene, The jungle is dark but full of diamonds, Willy. One must go in to fetch a diamond out. It s dark there, but full of diamonds (Miller 1993). Many people have found themselves asking this question at some point in their life. This has been a subject that has been addressed by many philosophers. In this paper the approach to this topic is centered on Plato s The Allegory of the Cave and Descartes s Meditation I of The Things Which We May Doubt as compared to the movie The Matrix. One of the most obvious similarities of the three passages is that they all call in to question what reality is. In The Matrix reality is conceived through a computer. The term is mainly used for stories with origins in European tradition and, at least in recent centuries, mostly relates to children s literature. Fairytales have been around for a long time, starting off as oral stories later to be collected by the Grimm brothers in the early 19th century. In The Bloody Chamber, we know that the first person narrator is female, but her name is unmentioned. This is difference between the original story and Angela Carter s is in the original the wife is not addressed other than wife whereas as in the Bloody Chamber is called by multiple names, but mostly pet names by her husband. She is called Madame by workers at the castle and with some diminutive words such as My little nun, Baby (17), My little love, and My child (18) by her husband. The female narrator labels herself by some words such as I, the orphan, the châtelaine and I, the little music student (13), a little girl (18), child (18), and his bride (13). It seems that she adopts the adjectives attributed to her by the outer world. On the other hand, the man she marries to holds an ancestral name of The Marquis (36) which symbolizes mastery and power, and the heroine calls the Marquis, my husband and my purchaser (15). Having these names in the story not only gives the story a fable feel but also shows the power dynamic between the narrator and the Marquis. The main character goes on to describe how the Marquis looks at her like a house wife would look at meat at the supermarket, the narrator compares herself to a female figure in an etching described as a lamb chop (17). Introduction: Although Colorado s growing population may be beneficial for the economy and social standings in our country, it poses some ecological concerns. According to the Colorado State Demography Office, Colorado s population has grown by nearly 75% since 1985 (Figure 1). In fact, Larimer County s population has doubled in that same time period. It has become evident that changes in Colorado s landscape have been altered due to this population boom. They have traditionally been viewed as competitors with cattle for rangeland resources, so eradication programs have reduced populations to less than two percent of those several decades ago (Whicker and Detling 1988). The Colorado Parks and Wildlife have now deemed this keystone species as a species of concern due to sylvatic plague, direct loss of habitat to urban/suburban development, habitat fragmentation, conversion of habitat to agricultural uses, systematic poisoning, recreational shooting, and inadequate regulatory mechanisms. Our biggest concerns are focused on habitat loss and fragmentation and systematic poisoning and how they connect to Colorado s growth in population. The grasslands along the Front Range are primarily inhabited by native grasses including, needle and thread grass (Stipa comata) and blue gramma grass (Bouteloua gracilis), as part of the primary producers of the ecosystem. In areas where prairie dogs are present, native grass populations decline at a rather quick rate and are often low in richness, evenness, and diversity (Beals et al. 2014). • 20. The Effects Of Music Education On Children s Brain... History Sings Good News for Musicians Historically, there has been a debate among educators and researchers whether music education plays a significant role in a child s brain development, intelligence quotient, social development and overall success in life. Many believe the data has been unreliable because there is little to prove with absolute certainty that those who participate in music education were not just born smarter. On the other hand, substantial data has been collected in recent years that seems to clear up those questions of doubt. As America s children continue to show a significant drop in their annual test scores, while simultaneously demonstrating worsened behavior in school, answers are being sought from many angles. Suggested reasons for the deteriorating behavior include a lack of boundaries at home, attention seeking, an absence of positive role models at home, low self esteem and family breakdown. (Townsend, 2013) While there are many contributing factors to these heart breaking realities, I will present how simply providing regular music lessons can be pivotal for a child. The diminishing importance our culture is placing on the benefits of music education is impacting our nation s children by limiting their potential in academic achievement, social development, and overall well being, but we can resolve this problem in part by raising awareness about this vital issue. #1 Confidence Created Building a child s confidence and self esteem ... • 22. Analysis Of The Play Othello The play Othello , by William Shakespeare and film adaption by Oliver parker explores the idea of how an individual s sense of identity affects their actions and how this can be manipulated to create conflict. Shakespeare uses techniques such as soliloquies, dramatic irony, imagery, foreshadowing, and symbolism to show us how tragedy occurs from counteracting to patriarchal rules and stereotypes. Identity is a very key, important thematic issue in William Shakespeare s tragic play, Othello . Identity, or what may be better explained as a character s public perception, is highly valued in the Elizabethan Age in which Othello is set. There is a varying range between the characters in the extent that how they are perceived in public is not how they behave in private or how they really are, thus creating more than one identity per character. A character s identity is the overall essence of that character, however, in plays such as Shakespeare s there must always be an element of tragic flaw to the play thus creating conflict. The definition for conflict is a state of open, often prolonged fighting; a battle or war. Opposition between characters or forces in a work of drama or fiction, especially opposition that motivates or shapes the action of the plot.
