Essay on Whistle Blower and the Allegory of the Cave
The Life of a Whistle Blower Since the 1960s, the public value of whistle blowing has been
increasingly recognized. Whistle blowing statutes protect from discharge or discrimination an
employee who has initiated an investigation of an employer s activities or who has otherwise
cooperated with a regulatory agency in carrying out an inquiry or the enforcement of regulations.
Many states have enacted whistle blower statutes, but these statutes vary widely in coverage. Some
statutes apply only to public employees, some apply to both public and private employees, and others
apply to public contractors. Under the federal False Claims Act, any person with knowledge of false
claims or fraud against the institution may bring a lawsuit in his or ... Show more content on

As a fast food eater, we are chained in the darkness of the cave and we do not want to accept the
reality of how negative fast food has on us. To the back of the prisoners, lie the puppeteers who are
casting the shadows on the wall, which the prisoners perceive as reality. The puppeteers are the
marketing team of the fast food industry. They utilize many different marketing strategies to reel in
customers. For example, the puppeteers targets children as their marketing strategy. The kids would
nag and whine to their parents to go get that Happy Meal from McDonald s because of that toy. These
kids continue to be prisoners of fast food, lifetime purchasers of McDonald s. As Socrates described
the cave and the situation of the prisoners, he conveys the point that the prisoners would be
fundamentally mistaken as to what is reality. Because we know that the puppeteers behind them are
using objects to liken the shadow. We all know that McDonald s is not good for our health, but those
that have kids continue to go to McDonald s at least once every now and then because their child
nagged about wanting to go there. Fast Food Nation could definitely be analyzed in the context of
Plato s The Allegory of the Cave . In the movie, Michael Clayton, a law firm brings in its fixer by the
name of Michael to remedy the situation after a lawyer, Arthur, has a breakdown

Social Media And Its Effect On Self Image
Would you consider yourself an important person? The majority of young people in today s society
would say that they indeed are important, as opposed to the very few numbers of people who felt this
way in the 1950 s, according to Jean Twenge in her book Generation Me. Debora Lima agrees with
Twenge and suggests that this is caused by social media in her article Social media plays large part in
self image. Cathy Payne also agrees as she explains the inflation of cosmetic surgeries in her article
Botox or your bills? Plastic surgery wins out. Twenge, Payne, and Lima all agree that there is a change
in self image in today s young society, yet they all argue different sub points on this subject. Overall,
there has been a noticeable change in self image.
In chapter 2 An Army of One: Me of Generation Me, Jean Twenge discusses self image. First, she
explains how Gen Me ers are focused on the self and how their self esteem is much higher than Baby
Boomers . The author reports how children are encouraged to focus on themselves. This sometimes
creates narcissism instead, declares the author. Another thing brought up is how teachers are beginning
to not criticize students because it may damage their self esteem. To conclude, Twenge argues how
Gen Me ers have a positive self image, but this may not be a good thing (Twenge 44 71).
While discussing the change in self image, Twenge s target audience is comprised of Gen Me ers and
Baby Boomers. Both of these groups would

Advantages And Components Of Avago
C. Features Advantages
Some of the key features of these components are ultra small size, low insertion loss and high
rejection. These components also ensure reliability in high power and temperature conditions.
Advantages of these components are listed below:
1. The used of copper bumps dissipates heat better than traditional interconnects. This ensures less
thermal radiations from the device.
2. The wafer level packaging ensures mechanical protection for the filters enhancing interference
reducing.
3. The dual output power mode enhances the talk time even in portable conditions.
4. Use of FBAR filters (Low Insertion Loss) ensures long battery life and fewer dropped calls.

Generally the power amplifier operated in 2 modes standby and output modes. To increase the

might distort the signals. So the technologies stay at high standby level wasting a lot of electricity.

The Relationship Closeness Inventory:
Assessing the Closeness of Interpersonal Relationships
Ellen Berscheid and Mark Snyder

Allen M. Ornoto
University of Kansas
This article describes the development of the Relationship ClosenessInventory (RCI), which draws on
the conceptualization of closeness as high interdependence between two people s activities proposed
by Kelley et al. (1983). The current closest relationship of individuals (N = 241) drawn from the
collegestudent population servedas the basis for RCI development, with the closestrelationship found
to encompass severalrelationship types, including romantic, friend, and family relationships. The

O n faith in that assumption, we attempted to devise an instrument for assessing relationship closeness
with the following characteristics: 1. It should focus on the I st three properties of interaction
highlighted by Kelley et al. (1983): frequency, diversity, and strength. (The property o f duration poses
special problems, which are discussed shortly.) In the absence o f an omniscient observer to record the
actual interaction chain of events, how one assesses these properties is necessarily somewhat arbitrary.
Nevertheless, we believed that however the assessment was to be made, it should at least attempt to
reflect the individual flavor o f each o f these properties of interdependence separately. We assumed
that although each of these properties may be an indicator of closeness, they need not be, and probably
are not, strongly correlated across all o f a person s relationships or across all relationship types. Thus,
the closeness measure should be composed o f several separate subindexes o f closeness, each a
reflection o f one o f the three properties specified.
2. These individual indicators o f closeness should be assessed in a way that permits an overall, or
summary, index o f closeness to be made for each relationship examined.

-2015 Exchange Exhibition of Asia Contemporary Ceramic Art
River flows from the side of the hill named Xiangshan; Students work in the quiet garden view
campus, which the buildings there are decorated with historical ceramic tiles.
For students and teachers, having a chance to be in this cultural environment is a life s fortune.
Although today s social life is so different from the past, people are getting harder to focus on pure
academic research because of the distractions from daily affairs. Especially for higher degree students
that rely on independent research, which provides freedom, but also brings the problems of shallow
research. Currently, the higher degree education in contemporary ceramic art of Asian should
construct its own value system that suits Eastern culture and aesthetic. The views of above aspects had
formed the exhibition s main concept.
The Asian art academies are facing the same situation in the higher degree education of ceramic art.
The day to day teaching needs new energy and clear direction; the homogeneity in teaching should be
avoided, and the lack of uniqueness should be made up. So, we need to focus on the root of problem
and plan ahead. The scholar Zhu Xi has asked in his book The Feeling Arisen By Reading: Asking
why the river is so clean; it is because the fresh water always comes from the fountainhead. It is

Define Happiness In America
Studies have shown, only 1 in 3 Americans are very happy with their life. The two thirds that are not
happy tend to believe one of two things: that they are not happy because they do not own or have as
many things compared to another person, and because they fill their inner void of happiness with
money. The truth is money can buy many, many things, except happiness. What is happiness? In order
to define yourself as happy or not you must understand the the definition of happiness. For example, if
another person considers themselves happy you may believe that in order to be happy you must have
what they have.Well, according to BBC, happiness is a complex state of mind where your
physiological and physical needs are met. This means many people

U.s. Presidential Election On The United States
There will be a U.S. presidential election on November 8, 2016. Whether you identify as a
Republican, a Democrat, or somewhere in between, there is no denying that Donald Trump and
Hillary Clinton are two highly controversial candidates. While it is difficult to tell where most
Americans stand on the election issue, it is easy to see that ancient Chinese Legalist thinkers would be
staunch supporters of Donald Trump. Legalist ideas seem to be the foundation upon which Trump s
Republican Party was built. Even Trump s slogan, Make America Great Again, is echoed in the
Legalist notion of becoming a strong country with impenetrable borders. Though I, along with many
Americans, disagree with Trump on many points, his tax and welfare policies seem to be based on
logic, especially in the context of Chinese history. However, America is not ready for a president who
has illustrated such a flagrant disregard for the law. Just as the Legalist regime in China was short
lived, so should be Trump s time in the limelight.
Han Feizi and Shang Yang, Legalist thinkers in ancient China, would vote for Donald Trump in the
upcoming election. While Feizi, Yang, and Trump agree on many fundamental points, taxation and
welfare policy are the most significant. Feizi stated in his teachings, now if the ruler levies money
from the rich in order to give alms to the poor, he is robbing the diligent and frugal and indulging the
lazy and extravagant. If he expects by such a means to induce the people

Rice Riot Essay
Rice riots
Rice riots happened in 1918 when Japanese government was involved in the Siberia intervention and
the economy of Japan was in war prosperity that the export and industrial development was growing
rapidly. To maintain the competiveness of the Japanese exports and industrial product, the government
set the purchasing price of the rice merchant from the peasants, which was much lower than the
market rice to lower the industrial production cost from the raw materials. As a result, the living
standard of the general peasants and workers in the city had even worsen under the prosperity despite
the huge growth in industry and economy. In May 1917, the rice market price starts to rise rapidly by
3 yen per koku and the price reached 50 yen ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The rice riot indicated the social structure at that time that the peasants and low level workers were
highly exploited and could not even benefit from the development of the economy. This riot meant the
strong dissent to the oppression from the government and the industrial Zaibatsu from the peasants to
normal Japanese people. To the government, this riot indicated that this economic development style
could not be sustainable, thus entered a more democratic period 1920s. The riot had led to three major
changes to the society. Firstly, the salary of the citizens and the purchasing price of the peasants were
raised a little while the government tried to lower the market rice by increasing import from its colony
Korea and Taiwan as well as other rice producing countries (Morgan 2011, 121 122), which slightly
improved the living standard of the poor. The more important impact is in the government that Hara
Takashi, who was the first untitled premier. This indicated the end of the Kazoku control of the
government and the raise of the party politics. Since the cabinet of Hara, the premier and cabinet
members could be untitled, which indicated a great progress to the Japanese democracy development.
The rice riot also caused the strong opposition to the left wing ideology in Japanese government. After
the riot, most of the leaders in the movement were arrested and put to the death sentence. To avoid
such a riot happening again, the government had a stronger opposition to the left wing movement and
strikes (Morgan 2011, 125 134). For instance, even in 1925, a more democratic period, to avoid the
spread the communism in Japan and other left wing ideology, the diet had passed Public Security
Preservation Laws to delegalize the left wing parties. The strong attitude against the left wing
ideology were because of the serious rice

Overview Of Methodologies. Effectuation . Effectual Reasoning
Overview of Methodologies
Effectuation
Effectual reasoning was researched and developed by Sara Sarasvathy, Associate Professor in the
Darden Graduate School of Business Administration at the University of Virginia. As stated by
Sarasvathy, effectual is the inverse causal (Sarasvathy, n.d.). Throughout history, business students
have been taught causal reasoning (Sarasvathy, n.d.). Causal reasoning consists of finding the best
means (cheapest, quickest, most efficient, etc.) to reach a predetermined goal (Sarasvathy, n.d.).
However, effectuation takes the opposite approach. Effectual thinking consists of collecting current
means and determining potential outcomes utilizing these means. (Sarasvathy, n.d.). One approach is
not better ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Avoid doing a competitive analysis (Sarasvathy, n.d.). Additionally, target key companies instead of
conducting broad market research. Developing pre commitments reduces uncertainty in the future
(Sarasvathy, n.d.).
3. Leveraging Contingencies Turning the unexpected into something beneficial (Sarasvathy, n.d.). Not
all surprises are always bad. Surprises can be used to help develop and grow a new venture. Rather
than trying to predict the future, focus on activities within your control ( What is effectuation? 2011).
The logic behind effectual thinking is... to the extent that we can control the future, we do not need to
predict it (Sarasvathy, n.d.).
Lean Startup
Lean startup is a scientific approach to developing a new product or business. Eric Ries created the
term, lean startup (Santoro, 2014). Ries was motivated to develop a startup approach that embraced
failure, since most new businesses and startups usually fail (Santoro, 2014). Additionally, lean startups
focus on using resources efficiently and eliminating waste (Santoro, 2014).
Principles of Lean Startup
1. Entrepreneurs are Everywhere Anyone can be an entrepreneur, whether you are working out of a

Essay On Sylvia Plath
Dying is an art, like everything else. I do it exceptionally well. I do it so it feels like hell. I do it so it
feels real. I guess you could say I ve a call (2603). Sylvia Plath was born October 27, 1932, in Boston
Massachusetts. She carried herself with a non apologetic attitude and an obsession with death, so
much so that she tried to take her own life on more than one occasion. Her first attempt happened
during the summer of her junior year in college. After taking several sleeping pills, she crawled under
her mother s house and was not found until three days later. After some time in a psychiatric hospital,
she recovered fully and attained a Fulbright scholarship to Newnham College, Cambridge ( Sylvia
Plath, Famousauthors.org).
Her poetry was known as a confessional type, typically based on her innermost feelings and thoughts,
with a twist for the dramatic and sensationalism ( Sylvia Plath, Biography.com). She also wrote one
novel, The Bell Jar, a dark literary work said to parallel much of her own life. In a forward to The Bell
Jar, written by Frances McCullough, McCullough states Although her illness was never diagnosed,
several researchers in the field have noted Plath s unerring description of schizophrenic perception...
(xvi). Perhaps this condition had something to do with Plath s early demise, for it was not long after
publication of The Bell Jar, that Plath made the decision to take her own life.

Literary Analysis Of Revenge In The Veldt By Ray Bradbury
The short story the Veldt by Ray Bradbury reveals that revenge is the key to most people s problems if
there isn t a solution. Early in the story we learn that the children have an issue with their father
closing the nursery. The author uses characterization as the literary element in the story to show how
the character develops. George, the father of Peter and Wendy is giving Peter recognition and
explaining how he is highly intelligent. While George takes pride in his son, he doesn t realize that
soon his son will turn on him. George says He s a wise one for ten. That I.Q. of his (5) Bradbury uses
this characterization to explain to the reader how smart Peter. George explains how his son could fix
machinery even though he is at a very young age. As days pass George realizes that his children s
attitude changes toward him and his wife. His children s attitude became more suspicious and
secretive. We ve given the children everything they ever wanted. Is this our reward secrecy,
disobedience? The author is trying to show the reader the actions that have happened since George
thought that his children were intelligent which was correct but there intelligence was used against
him. The children used their intelligence during the entrance of George into, the nursery as he found
some of his lost items such as his wallet as he was thinking what had brought it here, he told his kids
about it but they kept denying everything he said which led the kids convince him. As George keeps
thinking about the moment they had with the kids that was suspicious which led him to a conclusion
that his children might be mentally ill. As the Nursery was used for the children to release their anger
and anxieties, but the scenery of Africa was so wild that the father thought that the children needed
medical attention. The father s thoughts about the Nursery except that I m beginning to be sorry we
bought that room for the children. If children are neurotic at all, a room like that The author is trying
to make the reader understand the sickness Peter and Wendy are in which then concludes what the
father was thinking of and why he was thinking of giving medical assistance to his children. The

Problem Facing the World Today There are thirty four countries in the world that are both advanced
agriculturally and predominantly Muslim. These thirty four Islamic nations account for about 21% of
the world s land surface and about 15% of its cropped area. While the agricultural sector has been a
pivotal part of Islamic life for hundreds of years, the practice is becoming more and more difficult. In
regards to agriculture today, Lynn White states that formerly man had been part of nature; now he was
the exploiter of nature (White 3). Due to a lack of environmental awareness, farmland is prone to
erosion, usable water is becoming more and more scarce, and the long term agricultural potential in
Islamic nations is decreasing (Tutwiler). Muslims are actually well known for placing a high priority
on the environment and conservation. In fact, the Islamic holy book, the Qu ran, states that Humans,
as God s successors on earth, should treat the natural environment with the respect and dignity God
intended it to have (Kaltner). So how then, if Muslims value the environment so much, is
environmental degradation continuing to occur in Islamic nations? While some may say that it is

Walt Disney Case Analysis
The Walt Disney Company (DIS) is a well known entertainment and media powerhouse. While its two
most iconic theme parks are located within the US, the company also has parks in France, Japan, and
Hong Kong among other places. The media sector of Disney consists of some of the biggest names in
entertainment. Aside from its namesake Disney outlet, Disney is also the parent company of ESPN,
Lucas Films Ltd., ABC Network, and Marvel Studios. From a broader perspective, Disney seems
poised to make investors happy. While cord cutting (moving from tradition tv to online streaming
services) along with a decrease in subscribers to its ESPN network has hurt the company, recent
moves to enter the media streaming services segment seem promising. In addition, the current
government administration has announced plans to reduce the corporate tax rate from 35% to 20%.
The new administration has also proposed a way for companies to bring in overseas profits without
being taxed. This of course is good news for Disney and its international operations. With a market
cap of $151.4 billion, Disney is without a doubt a large cap stock. Its beta of 1.34 indicates it is 34%
more volatile than the market. However, this also points to higher potential returns. While Disney s
dividend yield of 1.59% isn t the most impressive, it signifies that the companies is reinvesting its
earnings into other business ventures which would reward investors with capital gains. With a PE ratio

Non Human Animal Cognitive Psychology
Animals communicate to each other just as we do by making sounds to warn another. However, some
nonhuman animals developed languages and cognitive capacities; psychologist refer it as animal

Don H. Hockenbury stated that Going beyond languages, psychologists today study many aspects of
animal behavior, including memory, problem solving, planning, cooperation, and even deception.
Collectively, such research reflects an active area of psychological research that is referred to as

Money Laundering
Throughout history, America and other global economies have consistently battled for equality and
fairness in their country. Many new legislations and laws have been implemented and added
throughout the years to adapt to the new technological advances each market has encountered. Even
so, the question of ethics has been raised weighing whether or not each new law meets the ethics in
business and morality. One important obstacle that is still at the forefront of new legislation and posed

His beliefs are opposite of the general population. His overall view is that money laundering is not a
major crime and that we have imposed a form of double jeopardy for those violating these particular
crimes. He also believes that we should lessen the consequences because he believes they are not
linked to other crimes. Many illegal activities have been encouraged with money laundering. It is
much easier on our government to find perpetrators if money laundering was absolved. By money
laundering being absolved, our government would pick up on traffickers easier because they would
have no way of accounting for their large and unexplainable income. With our government having
specialty government services like the Internal Revenue Service, drug traffickers would be detected
faster because of unexplained purchases that are higher than their recorded yearly income. Once that
occurs the government would be able to isolate large expenditures that traffickers usually use their
funds for. Some examples would be lavish vehicles, extravagant personal residences and large
investments. To combat money laundering, FAFT issued the 40 Recommendations in 1990 and revised

The Importance Of Whales In Patagonia
On the shores of a remote inlet in Patagonia, Chile, 337 whales were found dead due to reasons yet to
be found out. The Dodo reports scientists are startled by what they called the biggest die off in history.
The carcasses found in June were believed to be sei whales, which are already considered endangered.
According to National Geographic, sei whales are large baleen whales that could reach about 64 feet
in length and 50 tons in weight. These bluish gray sea mammals are known to be the fastest cetaceans,
swimming up to 50 kilometers per hour. Usually found in deep waters and away from coastlines, sei
whales could live up to 50 70 years. Although researchers are still unsure of what have caused the die

Financial Statement Analysis Jet Blue Airways Corporation (JBLU)
Summary of the Company
Jet Blue Airways Corporation, a passenger transportation company that provides 93 destinations in 28
states in the United States, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, the U.S.
Virgin Islands, and 19 countries in the Caribbean and Latin America (Yahoo Finance). Jet Blue
Airways Corporation is based in Long Island City, New York.
Financial Ratio Analysis
After computing the current ratio of Jet Blue Airways, there was a decrease from 2014 of 0.62 to 0.60
in 2015. This was a result of an increase of current liabilities that superseded the increase of current
assets. The decrease in ratio between the respective years denote the inability for the company to pay
off its most recent debts within a short period of time. Jet Blue current ratio falls extremely below the
average among the airline industry of 0.81 (CSI Market). In 2015, Jet Blue Airways acid test ratio
showed a slight increase to 0.45 from its former 0.44 rate in 2014. Consequently, the company s
increased ability to pay off its debt with its most recent assets. Combined the acid test ratio and the
current ratio, shows that the even though Jet Blue had a decrease in the current ratio, is had a much
higher immediate liquidity status due to the fact of a 52% increase in short term investments. In
addition, Jet Blue Airways experienced a 9% increase from 43.7 to 47.2 in its ability to convert its

Centennial Catalyst Newspaper Analysis
Media newsprint specifically, is not merely words on a piece of paper. The same way that books are
more than letters scrambled on a page, newspapers are more than just the articles on them. Even
locally, there is a distinct connection between democracy and the media. The Centennial Catalyst,
Centennial Secondary School s newspaper was created in 1966 and up until 2014, it was the
independent voice of the students. That was before it was cancelled. A combination of a lack of
students to contribute and budget cuts, the newspaper found itself discontinued; then the 2015 school
year came along. This new year brought along new money and new students and therefore the
reinvigoration of the Catalyst. This was my first experience with the newspaper, ... Show more content

Democracy in media, this is the topic of this essay, but before I get to that I m going to spoil the
ending. At the beginning of the current school year, the Catalyst had been cancelled again, no one had
fought for it, no one wanted it, and no one respected it. The blood sweat and tears that half dozen
students and I poured into this publication had been pushed over into the pile of reject courses our
school would no longer carry. There is no guarantee that Centennial will ever have a newspaper again
and that any other future student will get to read or write an article on from the Catalyst. Democracy.
The Meridian Webster Dictionary defines this word as meaning, government by the people. At the
same time as I was writing for the Catalyst, I was also fighting a battle for democracy in our student
government. VOX, meaning voice in Latin, was the original name for the student government at
Centennial. For the 2015 school year, everything changed, the election system formerly used was now
gone. The power to choose representatives was taken away from the students and put into the hands of
our schools socials department. The name was also changed from VOX to Student Council, they could
no longer call themselves VOX

Why did Quiznos go out of business in Rexburg? Did you know that we are closing this week? she

would you feel? Would you ask yourself why? How? Because that is exactly what I did.

Paid Parental Leave
HOW IT COULD BE USED TO IMPROVE THE UNITED STATES
In the US, paid parental leave is considered to be a benefit provided by employers, but not required.
Yet, only 12% of workers reported having such coverage in 2013, according to an estimate from the
Bureau of Labor Statistics National Compensation Survey. According to the United States Department
of Labor, paid maternity leave can increase female labor force participation by making it easier for
women to stay in the workforce after giving birth, which contributes to economic growth.

The s Stone, By J.k Rowling
In, J.K Rowling s Philosopher s Stone there are a number of references to ancient mythologies. The
events, characters and creatures in the story are not purely fictional, most of them relate to ancient
mythology embedded in different cultures. According to Joseph Campbell, American mythologist,
when people think of mythology, they usually correlate it with Greek mythology. This is illustrated
through examples such as the dog Fluffy, the Philosopher s stone, magic numbers three and seven, and
also its characters, like Harry Potter, Dumbledore, Voldemort, and Hermione. According to Campbell,
myths provide direction, teaching young people about their own life and culture. To do so J.K.
Rowling s novel Philosopher s Stone, rewrites modern versions of ancient myths, therefore they
provide relatable guidance and teach young readers about their lives. The novel fulfils this need by
providing engaging action and supernatural events.
In Greek mythology a hero is usually born of a human woman and a god. Harry s mother was a
muggler (an ordinary person who is not a wizard) and his father was a wizard. The hero in Greek
myths fights monsters. Harry s ultimate quest is to fight Voldemort, the monster of the story. A hero is
known to be worshipped by any ordinary audience, and therefore Harry is known to be famous to all
as soon as he arrives at Hogwarts because of his tie to Voldemort. Harry is known as the boy who

Introduction
Identification of an object, animal or a person with the use of Radio frequency is the simple way to
define RFID. Technically speaking, it is the technology that incorporates the use of electromagnetic or

Radiofrequency identifies the subject by reading the tags attached to the subject. These tags contain
electronically stored information which is captured by the reader. Tags may either be powered by

RFID systems can be classified by the type of tag and reader.
A Passive Reader Active Tag (PRAT) system has a passive reader which only receives radio signals
from active tags (battery operated, transmit only).
An Active Reader Passive Tag (ARPT) system has an active reader, which transmits interrogator
signals and also receives authentication replies from passive tags.
An Active Reader Active Tag (ARAT) system uses active tags awoken with an interrogator signal
from the active reader.
Signalling
Host manages Reader(s) and issues Commands:
 Reader and tag communicate via RF signal
 Carrier signal generated by the reader
 Carrier signal sent out through the antennas
 Carrier signal hits tag(s)
 Tag receives and modifies carrier signal
sends back modulated signal (Passive Backscatter also referred to as field disturbance device )
 Antennas receive the modulated signal and send them to the Reader
 Reader decodes the data
 Results returned to the host application

The Making of Apollo 13
When making Apollo 13, Ron Howard s intention was to make his film as exciting as possible. He
wanted to make a chemistry on set that would show throughout the film. Ron wanted Apollo 13 to be
realistic, as well as exciting and enjoyable.
Within the characters, Ron wanted to capture their real personalities. This was done by the actors
(Tom Hanks and Kathleen Quinlan) meeting the real life Jim and Marilyn Lovell. They each spent a
day in their home to help capture the right characteristics and get a real idea how they felt.

Ron and the actors also met the real crew and used the astronaut s descriptions to help make the scenes

Ron made the film accurate by researching facts, using real events and phrases, talking to NASA and

problems that arise with foundationalism, and therefore it offers an alternative or additional means of

with one another, for how can you build beliefs based on another, I believe 2+2=4 but how can that
relate to the greenness of grass, and if you are using beliefs to justify others couldn t it just be one big
circular argument that self prophises a whole set of beliefs based a pon itself. And is it really sensible
to reject one set of beliefs simply because of the amount of beliefs I have in another, as the smaller
one could still be true and the evidence more valid than the first. But on the plus side it does seem that
most people in everyday life seem to go with whats most coherent and reject ideas that don t fit, so it
seems sensible to suggest that this is how we aquire knowledge and the system that we keep it in. It
also serves as a good alternative to foundationlism as foundationlism can seem too simplistic and

The Consequences Of The English And Norman Conquests...
The people who inhabited Great Britain between 450 and 1066, were referred to as Anglo Saxons and
they included people from German tribes that had migrated from Europe, their descendants, and
individuals from British groups that associated with the Anglo Saxon culture and language. This
period provided a flourishing of literature and language, the establishment of laws, creation of the
English Nation, and re establishment of Christianity. Culture began changing for the Anglo Saxon
people that lived through the conquest of Cnut in 1016 and that of William of Normandy in 1066.
Following the conquests, the nobility of Anglo Saxon people were either exiled or became peasants.
The English nobles had very specific obligations to William in return for their fiefs such as; castle
building, military service, and the training of additional knights. The Norman Conquest became far
more revolutionary than its Danish predecessor. (P. 336). Enormous consequences flowed because the
English and Normans were quite two different people. (p. 336).
It was a fatal day for England during the Battle of Hastings and had caused an exchange in old masters
for new. The English were abandoned to greed and lust, lax in their religion, and addicted to hot
mulled cider. They lived in small houses and preferred to don their skin with gold, eat until they were
sick, and drink until they spewed. The Normans tended to dress well, were particular about their food,
and much more religious. They built

In this phase, the role of ODP is majorly tasked with counseling patients to reduce their nervousness.
The patient needs to be taught about deep breathing, splinting, turning and purse lip breathing
exercises which would go a long way in ensuring that the patient does not develop complications from
the surgery such as circulatory conditions, pneumonia, and other respiratory issues. The main
precautions that take place in this phase include obtaining informed consent from the patient. The
surgeon should be present in this phase to answer questions about any concerns the patient may have
on the surgery. This will also help in reducing the patient s anxiety based on the information provided
by the physician. In the operative phase, effective prevention and control system within the operating

Synchronizing leadership, entrepreneurship and strategy for sure makes a great management. By the
way even if these skills might seem pretty achievable by academic and professional education, things
become more complicated when we talk about international business. In fact global management
involve many aspect that do not require a simple preparation in a specific business field, but it rather
requires a broad preparation on different fields, such as international laws, commerce policies and
people customs just to mention a few.
Just less than a century ago, management rules were very different from now, work was mainly
composed of manual labor task, this means that a traditional pyramid hierarchy with employees and
managers loyally obedient to their top managers, was a solid structure to build a good and healthy
business. But starting a few decades ago, as work begun to require less manual labor and more
knowledge work, things have changed dramatically bringing modern management to new standards as
depicted by Peter Drucker who pointed out the importance of entrepreneurship and innovation into the
management world. A further evolution occurred in the 1970s with Warren Bennis who stated that
more than just a manager, an effective leader was defined as someone with the ability to influence and
motivate others not only to perform work tasks but also to support the organization s values and meet
the organization s goals. This is to me the cornerstone of new management, the

Lots of empirical research has studied links between economy and institutional changes. In order for
an economy to flourish, certain legal and social institutions, such as property rights, government

Since its founding, especially after the 1980s, China has experienced a series of economic reforms,
such as the development of non government owned industrial economy, the opening up policy.
Unprecedented growth occurred in China, with its economy increase by 9.5% a year. Meanwhile,

Consequences Of Forbidden Love In Romeo And Juliet
In the tragic play Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare, a memorable idea was forbidden love.
The play centers on the ill fated love between the adolescent offspring of two warring, families of
medieval Verona. Because of the feud between the families, Romeo and Juliet s love and secret
marriage was destined for tragedy, not only for them but also the families. The idea of forbidden love
drives the entire plot and without it the story would not nearly be as dramatic. It helps the reader
understand the consequences of their relationship. We can see clearly through the entire story the idea
of forbidden love, for example in Act 2 Scene 2, Juliet cries out O Romeo, Romeo! wherefore art thou
Romeo? Deny thy father and refuse thy name! Or, if thou wilt not, be but sworn my love, And I ll no

be together in private, there would be no tragedy if this wasn t necessary. Juliet wouldn t have had the
problem of Lord Capulet arranging marriage with Paris and they wouldn t have needed to do anything
in secrecy. One of the main reasons that forbidden love played a bigger part was because, the Capulets
would have been fine if Juliet had married any other man and there would be no problems or tragedy.
But because Juliet fell in love with Romeo, the heir to the Montagues, her family s enemies, they

Yams And Symbolism In Things Fall Apart By Chinua Achebe
Emphasized throughout the novel, we see the chi of a person determining whether they will receive a
good yam harvest for the year or not. Thus, in order to maintain a good chi, men within Ibo pay
respects to the earth goddess Ani, through the Feast of the New Yam. Spiritually, the earth goddess
overlooks and distributes successful harvests to men in Ibo. Physically, men are in charge of
harvesting their own crops to ensure a successful harvest. Hence, throughout Things Fall Apart,
Chinua Achebe utilizes symbolism through yams and motifs through the earth goddess and the chi of a
person to emphasize one of the overarching themes of the novel: wealth, respect, and power.
Throughout the novel, it is emphasized that the more yams a man is able to successfully grow, the
richer in respect and wealth he is to become. Thus, Unoka s inability to grow a successful harvest
makes him known for the weakness of [his] machete and hoe (Achebe 17). In turn, Unoka s lack of
strength and wealth causes the earth goddess to feel a disgrace towards him. And, when a man does
not appear to have worked for his family s well being, he is not allowed to die in his house (Achebe
18). As a result, we see Unoka dying in isolation to the world because his chi states that he is not
worthy of the respect of his community. Unlike his father Unoka, Okonkwo works towards the respect
of his people. By planting crops specifically yams, Okonkwo takes on a great pride towards his doings

Analysis Of The Use Of Lighting In The Godfather Essay
I am writing about the use of lighting in the opening scene of The Godfather, (1). The
photography of The Godfather as an entire film is very planned and used specifically to
generate moods, and have great psychological affect. This is just as true for the very first series of
shots for the film, and perhaps more important since these first shots will give the audience the initial
feeling of the film, and set a tone for the picture. The first shot is highly dramatic in its lighting
method, and the audience is drawn in immediately to one single detail. A man begins revealing the
details of a tragic incident that befell his daughter. We don t see who he is talking to. There is a
spotlight directly above the man, and this is pretty much ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This highlight area of his eye is the part of the frame which has the greatest contrast, so naturally the
audience is drawn directly into this man s stare, and this is also achieved by having the man look right
at the camera. As he speaks, the camera slowly pulls out and then we start to see a slight increase in
the surrounding detail of the scene. We can now see part of the back and side of the Godfather,
(Marlon Brando) but still we have only a slight highlight on his side, and no detail. Now the man gets
up and moves to Brando s side, and he too is in complete shadow; we can only really make out the
fact that there are two figures present here, no more. Then the shot changes as the man leaves the
Godfather s side, and it is a revealing frontal MCU of Brando. This shot is lit much more than the
previous shot. Where the other shot s background was pitch black, this shot is lit so that almost the
whole space and all objects in it are visible. Brando has a key, fill and backlight on him, and his
character is revealed with much intensity because of the dramatic light change from shot to shot.
When the shot comes back to the man, in an over the shoulder (Brando) style, again the backround is
totally black. Having the man in that particular lighting, and having Brando lit the way he is serves
two psychological purposes. First, having the constant black background behind the man isolates his
problem and makes us aware of how consumed he is with his problem.

  • 2. Essay on Whistle Blower and the Allegory of the Cave The Life of a Whistle Blower Since the 1960s, the public value of whistle blowing has been increasingly recognized. Whistle blowing statutes protect from discharge or discrimination an employee who has initiated an investigation of an employer s activities or who has otherwise cooperated with a regulatory agency in carrying out an inquiry or the enforcement of regulations. Many states have enacted whistle blower statutes, but these statutes vary widely in coverage. Some statutes apply only to public employees, some apply to both public and private employees, and others apply to public contractors. Under the federal False Claims Act, any person with knowledge of false claims or fraud against the institution may bring a lawsuit in his or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As a fast food eater, we are chained in the darkness of the cave and we do not want to accept the reality of how negative fast food has on us. To the back of the prisoners, lie the puppeteers who are casting the shadows on the wall, which the prisoners perceive as reality. The puppeteers are the marketing team of the fast food industry. They utilize many different marketing strategies to reel in customers. For example, the puppeteers targets children as their marketing strategy. The kids would nag and whine to their parents to go get that Happy Meal from McDonald s because of that toy. These kids continue to be prisoners of fast food, lifetime purchasers of McDonald s. As Socrates described the cave and the situation of the prisoners, he conveys the point that the prisoners would be fundamentally mistaken as to what is reality. Because we know that the puppeteers behind them are using objects to liken the shadow. We all know that McDonald s is not good for our health, but those that have kids continue to go to McDonald s at least once every now and then because their child nagged about wanting to go there. Fast Food Nation could definitely be analyzed in the context of Plato s The Allegory of the Cave . • 3. Social Media And Its Effect On Self Image Would you consider yourself an important person? The majority of young people in today s society would say that they indeed are important, as opposed to the very few numbers of people who felt this way in the 1950 s, according to Jean Twenge in her book Generation Me. Debora Lima agrees with Twenge and suggests that this is caused by social media in her article Social media plays large part in self image. Cathy Payne also agrees as she explains the inflation of cosmetic surgeries in her article Botox or your bills? Plastic surgery wins out. Twenge, Payne, and Lima all agree that there is a change in self image in today s young society, yet they all argue different sub points on this subject. Overall, there has been a noticeable change in self image. In chapter 2 An Army of One: Me of Generation Me, Jean Twenge discusses self image. First, she explains how Gen Me ers are focused on the self and how their self esteem is much higher than Baby Boomers . The author reports how children are encouraged to focus on themselves. This sometimes creates narcissism instead, declares the author. Another thing brought up is how teachers are beginning to not criticize students because it may damage their self esteem. To conclude, Twenge argues how Gen Me ers have a positive self image, but this may not be a good thing (Twenge 44 71). While discussing the change in self image, Twenge s target audience is comprised of Gen Me ers and Baby Boomers. Both of these groups would ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

These chips in the smartphone wastes 65 percent of their energy due to their inefficiency [11]. Now a startup which is spinout from MIT, ETA devices say that they have found the design for high efficiency. If the design works out properly then it would slash half of the power consumption on its implemented base stations. Generally the power amplifier operated in 2 modes standby and output modes. To increase the efficiency lowest standby mode must be used. But the sudden jump from standby to output mode might distort the signals. So the technologies stay at high standby level wasting a lot of electricity. Whether you identify as a Republican, a Democrat, or somewhere in between, there is no denying that Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton are two highly controversial candidates. While it is difficult to tell where most Americans stand on the election issue, it is easy to see that ancient Chinese Legalist thinkers would be staunch supporters of Donald Trump. Legalist ideas seem to be the foundation upon which Trump s Republican Party was built. Even Trump s slogan, Make America Great Again, is echoed in the Legalist notion of becoming a strong country with impenetrable borders. Though I, along with many Americans, disagree with Trump on many points, his tax and welfare policies seem to be based on logic, especially in the context of Chinese history. However, America is not ready for a president who has illustrated such a flagrant disregard for the law. Just as the Legalist regime in China was short lived, so should be Trump s time in the limelight. Han Feizi and Shang Yang, Legalist thinkers in ancient China, would vote for Donald Trump in the upcoming election. While Feizi, Yang, and Trump agree on many fundamental points, taxation and welfare policy are the most significant. To the government, this riot indicated that this economic development style could not be sustainable, thus entered a more democratic period 1920s. The riot had led to three major changes to the society. Firstly, the salary of the citizens and the purchasing price of the peasants were raised a little while the government tried to lower the market rice by increasing import from its colony Korea and Taiwan as well as other rice producing countries (Morgan 2011, 121 122), which slightly improved the living standard of the poor. The more important impact is in the government that Hara Takashi, who was the first untitled premier. This indicated the end of the Kazoku control of the government and the raise of the party politics. Since the cabinet of Hara, the premier and cabinet members could be untitled, which indicated a great progress to the Japanese democracy development. The rice riot also caused the strong opposition to the left wing ideology in Japanese government. After the riot, most of the leaders in the movement were arrested and put to the death sentence. To avoid such a riot happening again, the government had a stronger opposition to the left wing movement and strikes (Morgan 2011, 125 134). Sylvia Plath was born October 27, 1932, in Boston Massachusetts. She carried herself with a non apologetic attitude and an obsession with death, so much so that she tried to take her own life on more than one occasion. Her first attempt happened during the summer of her junior year in college. After taking several sleeping pills, she crawled under her mother s house and was not found until three days later. After some time in a psychiatric hospital, she recovered fully and attained a Fulbright scholarship to Newnham College, Cambridge ( Sylvia Plath, Famousauthors.org). Her poetry was known as a confessional type, typically based on her innermost feelings and thoughts, with a twist for the dramatic and sensationalism ( Sylvia Plath, Biography.com). She also wrote one novel, The Bell Jar, a dark literary work said to parallel much of her own life. In a forward to The Bell Jar, written by Frances McCullough, McCullough states Although her illness was never diagnosed, several researchers in the field have noted Plath s unerring description of schizophrenic perception... The events, characters and creatures in the story are not purely fictional, most of them relate to ancient mythology embedded in different cultures. According to Joseph Campbell, American mythologist, when people think of mythology, they usually correlate it with Greek mythology. This is illustrated through examples such as the dog Fluffy, the Philosopher s stone, magic numbers three and seven, and also its characters, like Harry Potter, Dumbledore, Voldemort, and Hermione. According to Campbell, myths provide direction, teaching young people about their own life and culture. To do so J.K. Rowling s novel Philosopher s Stone, rewrites modern versions of ancient myths, therefore they provide relatable guidance and teach young readers about their lives. The novel fulfils this need by providing engaging action and supernatural events. In Greek mythology a hero is usually born of a human woman and a god. Harry s mother was a muggler (an ordinary person who is not a wizard) and his father was a wizard. The hero in Greek myths fights monsters. Harry s ultimate quest is to fight Voldemort, the monster of the story. The people who inhabited Great Britain between 450 and 1066, were referred to as Anglo Saxons and they included people from German tribes that had migrated from Europe, their descendants, and individuals from British groups that associated with the Anglo Saxon culture and language. This period provided a flourishing of literature and language, the establishment of laws, creation of the English Nation, and re establishment of Christianity. Culture began changing for the Anglo Saxon people that lived through the conquest of Cnut in 1016 and that of William of Normandy in 1066. The English nobles had very specific obligations to William in return for their fiefs such as; castle building, military service, and the training of additional knights. The Norman Conquest became far more revolutionary than its Danish predecessor. (P. 336). Enormous consequences flowed because the English and Normans were quite two different people. (p. 336). It was a fatal day for England during the Battle of Hastings and had caused an exchange in old masters for new. The English were abandoned to greed and lust, lax in their religion, and addicted to hot mulled cider. Yams And Symbolism In Things Fall Apart By Chinua Achebe Emphasized throughout the novel, we see the chi of a person determining whether they will receive a good yam harvest for the year or not. Thus, in order to maintain a good chi, men within Ibo pay respects to the earth goddess Ani, through the Feast of the New Yam. Spiritually, the earth goddess overlooks and distributes successful harvests to men in Ibo. Physically, men are in charge of harvesting their own crops to ensure a successful harvest. Hence, throughout Things Fall Apart, Chinua Achebe utilizes symbolism through yams and motifs through the earth goddess and the chi of a person to emphasize one of the overarching themes of the novel: wealth, respect, and power. Throughout the novel, it is emphasized that the more yams a man is able to successfully grow, the richer in respect and wealth he is to become. Thus, Unoka s inability to grow a successful harvest makes him known for the weakness of [his] machete and hoe (Achebe 17). In turn, Unoka s lack of strength and wealth causes the earth goddess to feel a disgrace towards him. And, when a man does not appear to have worked for his family s well being, he is not allowed to die in his house (Achebe 18). As a result, we see Unoka dying in isolation to the world because his chi states that he is not worthy of the respect of his community. The photography of The Godfather as an entire film is very planned and used specifically to generate moods, and have great psychological affect. This is just as true for the very first series of shots for the film, and perhaps more important since these first shots will give the audience the initial feeling of the film, and set a tone for the picture. The first shot is highly dramatic in its lighting method, and the audience is drawn in immediately to one single detail. As he speaks, the camera slowly pulls out and then we start to see a slight increase in the surrounding detail of the scene. We can now see part of the back and side of the Godfather, (Marlon Brando) but still we have only a slight highlight on his side, and no detail. Now the man gets up and moves to Brando s side, and he too is in complete shadow; we can only really make out the fact that there are two figures present here, no more. Then the shot changes as the man leaves the Godfather s side, and it is a revealing frontal MCU of Brando. This shot is lit much more than the previous shot. Where the other shot s background was pitch black, this shot is lit so that almost the whole space and all objects in it are visible. Brando has a key, fill and backlight on him, and his character is revealed with much intensity because of the dramatic light change from shot to shot. When the shot comes back to the man, in an over the shoulder (Brando) style, again the backround is totally black. Having the man in that particular lighting, and having Brando lit the way he is serves two psychological purposes.
