August Wilson Fences
Sometimes you have to pick the gun up to put the gun down. This quote was said by Malcolm X, who
was an African American Minister and a human rights activist. It means that sometimes you have to
fight in order to achieve peace. I agree with what he said because in order to get what you want you
have to fight for it. Two literary works that reflect this quote are Fences, a play about the struggles of
African American before and during the Civil Rights Era in the 1950s and 60s, by August Wilson and
The Yellow Wallpaper a short story that shows the difference between women and men during that
time, by Charlotte Perkins Gilman. Fences shows the revolution the characters face, their actions and
what is the result of those choices. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The lack of acknowledgment in the play Fences between Troy and Cory cause their relationship to
decline even further. One of the greatest sources of disappointment in Troy s life is the fact that he
wasn t allowed to play pro baseball, Even though he used to hit homeruns in the Negro Leagues, he
couldn t go to the majors because of racial discrimination. He doesn t let Cory play football, because
he doesn t want Cory to feel what he felt during his time. Troy s lack of acknowledgment of Cory s
potential destroys Cory s dream by not signing the papers and not letting the college recruiter from
coming. I got sense enough not to let my boy get hurt playing no sports (Wilson 39) He unconsciously
stats that he doesn t want Cory to feel how he felt during his time. This quote references flashback
because in this quote Troy refers back to what had happened to him during his athletic career, and how
it affected his life. In this quote he speaks like a father who is making decisions for his son and his
future, even though the people around him is telling him that the time has changed and it is not like
before. Troy s lack of acknowledgment causes Cory to lose his dream and late Cory to leave the
house.
In the play Fences, Troy s demand for change caused him to revolt against the company. Even after
the abolishment of slavery the blacks were not treated equally nor had any

Pre Modern East Asia Essay
Scholars such as John K. Fairback and David Kang have argued that the theory of the tribute system
can explain most of pre modern East Asian history. However, there was an interesting period of pre
modern East Asian history that cannot be fully explained by the tribute system. This was the Imjin
War of 1592 1598, also known as the greatest international conflict in pre modern East Asia. If pre
modern East Asian countries were tributaries under the hegemon that is China, they would not rebel
against their hegemon. As Japan rebelled by attempting to conquer China through Korea, the tribute
system cannot explain the Imjin War.
This essay will use an alternate theory, a theory of self interest, to discuss the international relations of
Japan, Korea, and China during the Imjin War (1592 1598). During the Imjin War, each nation acted
out of its own self interest rather than as a result of diplomatic hierarchy. In this alternate theory, the
self interest of each nation stems from the hierarchy within the nations themselves. Because there was
no democracy in East Asia in the late sixteenth century, each nation had a ruler who had consolidated
central power. Also, because Confucian nations greatly valued prestige, protecting and ... Show more

Chinese military leaders protected the self interest of Ming China by using Korean soldiers as buffers
in battle. If Ming China waged battle with Japan on their own, they would have suffered many more
casualties. However, by using the Korean soldiers already stationed in Korea and already fighting in
the war, China was able to reduce the loss of Chinese life (Hur (2015), p.244). The actions taken by
Ming China and Chinese leadership during the Imjin War can also be explained by the self interest
theory, as they were looking to preserve the lives of their own people without regard for the lives of
their foreign tributary

French Education System Essay
French Education System:
France has a centralized education system, with a curriculum set at a national level. The majority of
schools are public, free, and state run (ecoles publiques). Some private schools (sous contrat) exist that
are run and subsidized by the French government, which charge nominal fees. Fully independent
private schools exist (ecoles prives hors contrat), which are fee paying. These independent private
scgools can be religiously oriented, or international / bilingual.
The learning style tends to be of a traditional nature, which entails classroom learning, testing, and
discipline. French schools value the authority of the teacher, competition, evaluating through grading,
and analytical thinking over creativity. Class sizes tend to be large, with 30 or more students per class.
Teachers teach one subject in most scenarios, which is typical of the traditional method. Changes have
been presented to reform the French schooling system, but is met with opposition that prefers the
traditional method. French schooling is split up into three primary and secondary levels: primary
school (école), middle school (collège), and high school (lycée). After high school, students can attend
university or enter the workforce.
French students take the baccalauréat exam towards the end of their primary and secondary schooling.
Passing the test is necessary to attend university. Performance on the exam is highly scrutinized, and
high tier grades receive special honors.

Mentoring
Mentorship Module
In this essay I aim to reflect and critically analyse my completion of the learning development plan
and to identify how the skills and knowledge that I have gained as a mentor will enable me to lead
learning in my area of practice. I will be using the What model of reflection (Driscoll 2000)
throughout this essay.
What? As part of the mentorship module I was required to complete a Learning Development Plan
(LDP). Part of the LDP involved writing a lesson plan which was then taught to a student under the
supervision of my mentor. A copy of the lesson plan can be found within the LDP. An assessment plan
was then used to evaluate the learning that had taken place and to assess the competency of the
student. I am ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It makes sense, therefore, that before we explore how we teach, we understand how people learn .
From discussion with my student prior to the lesson I learnt that she too had a more activist learning
style and I felt that this match would provide a more harmonious learning environment between
myself and the student. Whilst there is validity in attempting to match teaching styles with learning
styles (Quinn amp; Hughes 2007) there is also research to show that by moving the student outside of
their dominant learning style will stimulate learning and the challenge will promote more creative
learning (Tennant 1997 and Partridge 1983).
I was aware of my student s dominant learning style and my lesson on Intubation was a practical one
which would be more suited to her, however, I felt that in order to teach the subject effectively, the
lesson in part would have to have a theoretical approach in order to cover the aspects of airway
anatomy and physiology, rationale for intubation and the hazards, precautions and complications of
the procedure. Once I had completed my lesson plan, I was concerned that it was weighted far more to
a reflector or theorist style of learning and that my student would become bored and de motivated.
This is also argued by Gopee (2008) who states that the mentor should endeavour to develop
awareness of their mentee s learning style to see if they can adapt to them to make their teaching more
effective . Gopee

Essay on France And Germanys Relationships From 1815-1917
Throughout the time period of 1815 1917 there was a vast number of changes. There were good and
bad ones. The main principle of this time period was that people were starting to realize that peace
should be prevalent throughout Europe. This paper will discuss the relationships between France and
Germany during the time period of 1815 1917.
The paper will primarily focus on the Franco Prussian War, The Revolutions of 1848, the Dreyfus
affair, the Austro Prussian War, imperialism and the beginning of World War One and everything that
is closely related to those topics. The paper will have various pictures and primary documents for you

These were the cause for many uprisings various countries. Most of the revolutions died down
quickly. The reason for most of the revolutions ending abruptly was the fact that there was disunity
amongst the leaders of the revolutions. A good way to see this is to look at such countries as Germany
and Frances revolutions.
The fact that there was a sever depression and low employment rate at the time is a reason that this
revolution started. In France, the revolution began with a riot lead by Parisians. This riot lead to Louis
Phillippe fleeing to Great Britain. Soon a provisional government was established. It soon also had
disunity amongst the leaders. This second republic was formed and there was soon fighting in the
streets. The bloody June days gave the Parisians a chance to fight the government troops. Again they
were back were they started. This uprising was crushed and ensured the conservative nature of the
republic. This created a fear among the bourgeoisie of hard working radicals that influenced French
politics. This new constitution established a presidential republic with a single assembly. These were
to be chosen by universal male suffrage. Louis Napoleon soon ran for presidency and he was
victorious with an overwhelming vote in his behalf. He soon gave France a new constitution. A year
later he took the throne as Napoleon III. Napoleon II never reigned.

Why Does Shakespeare Use Comedy In Hamlet
Shakespeare uses comedy in many of his books, plays, and movies. Although this comedy is not
explicitly shown throughout his works, they are hidden in order to provide a release from all of the
tension/drama of all of the tension in his writing. In this play/book, Hamlet (the main character) uses
comedy in order to relax or calm himself while going through a rough patch in life. Many of the other
characters used the same method in order to take away from the tension. All throughout this
play/book, the characters used comedy in different ways, yet they still are a breakaway from the focus.
Beginning in Act 2, Scene 2, lines 164 178, Hamlet proclaims that Polonius is a fishmonger for selling
his own daughter Ophelia out.

which destroys the perception of the viewers watching or hearing this information. The messenger is
informing the people of false information, which is going to cause a reaction that is not good. In Act 5,
Scene 1, the gravediggers enjoy a night of digging or preparing a new spot for the suicidal Ophelia.
This entire scene was majority about how the gravediggers feel about Ophelia s death and other
people who have passed on. They come up with different reasons as to why she would have decided to
commit such a horrible action. It is strange to see gravediggers who enjoy this particular job so much
that they even play with the dug up bones of past people. Hamlet did not take the news of Ophelia
very well, which made him act in a strange and new way towards her brother. At the end of this book,
Hamlet is having a conversation with Horatio and Oscric. This quote is illustrated in Act 5, Scene 2,

Funeral Rituals In American Culture
Death is not the end.
Dying is an unavoidable part of life. That is mostly why death is not resisted but accepted. Many fear
death and do not want to accept that life will eventually end, even with the promise of meeting their
loved ones that once passed. The fear felt is undoubtedly common, however, the ways in which it is
dealt with are varied and diverse. Death comes in different cultures and is celebrated differently
around the world. Most cultures have specific and meaningful traditions and customs around death.
American culture encompasses the customs and traditions of the United States. The United States is
one of the most culturally diverse country in the world. Within the United States and Canada, the

When someone dies in Mexico, it s uncommon for the family to immediately have them taken to a
funeral home or church. Instead, most families will spend up to 48 hours with the deceased in their
home, with a simple sheet draped over them or a simple coffin for them to lay in. One of the most well
known traditions that Mexico has in regard to its dead is the Day of the Dead. During this time, it is
believed that the souls of the deceased return to their families to be with them again. The holiday is

the contemporary folk culture. Many cultures share the same customs, associated with the idea that the
dead must walk toward the region where the sun itself dies, where it sets every evening. Today
Mexican culture consists of a celebration where families of the deceased go to cemeteries and decorate

for Coca Cola. On their website, I can find a sustainability report back to 2007. In each of these
reports/reviews, Coca Cola will assess performance and progress against the previous year, in
addition, the number of indicators is also increasing. This journey has certainly brought benefits to the
company. For example, Coca Cola has focused on sustainable packaging efforts and the creative

How Japan Committed Crimes Against Humanity in Pursuit of...
Japan was one of the major powers of Axis Powers during the World War II. From 1937 to 1945,
Japan started a series of wars, and resulted in millions of casualties along the way. Japanese battlefield
consists of three parts: China, Pacific and Southeastern Asia. Japanese started these wars because they
wanted to gain resources and war advantages for their own country. Japan committed crimes against
humanity during their wars, which means they neglected human dignity and degraded human value by
humiliation. During the Sino Japanese War, the Pearl Harbor Attack and wars in Southeastern Asia,
Japan, in pursuit of self interest, violated human rights and committed crimes against humanity. Japan

Joseph Keenan, the chief prosecutor during the Tokyo Trial after the war, stated that the attack on
Pearl Harbor violated both the war agreement and was a deceitful and treacherous act: But the attack
of Pearl Harbor did not alone result in murder and the slaughter of thousands of human beings. It did
not eventuate only in the destruction of property. It was an outright act of undermining and destroying
the hope of a world for peace. (Keenan 57 58). In addition, the attack on Pearl Harbor was a crime
against humanity since Japan gave American soldiers no time to organize proper defense, and
deprived them of their right to fight for their safety. Japan also humiliated U.S. soldiers during the
attack, which is a violation against human dignity. Japan attacked the Pearl Harbor to weaken U.S. , as
a powerful response to U.S. oil embargo to Japan. In 1941, Japan and China reached stalemate, and
the former was in dire need of resources for a long war. U.S. and the Western oil sanction did not want
Japan to exploit the oil resources in China and Southeastern Asia, so U.S. set an embargo on oil to
restrict Japan. Japan wanted the resources, but was concerned with U.S. military power, so it decided
to strike a sudden attack to weaken U.S. in order to acquire resources and win the Sino Japanese war.

The Influence Of Malcolm X On The Nation Of Islam
Malcolm began to work with the leader of the Nation of Islam, Elijah Muhammad, to expand the
amount of black members in the religious group s following. Malcolm X became the minister of
Temple No. 7 in Harlem and Temple No. 11 in Boston, while also founding new temples in Hartford
and Philadelphia. It was then that he met Betty Sanders, who also changed her last name to X. They
married on January 14, 1958, in Michigan, and she gave him six daughters. Malcolm continued his
advocacy and also established a national newspaper,
, in 1960 in an effort to further promote the Islamic message. He a gifted orator and he easily
convinced blacks to end racism by any means necessary, including violence. He did not believe that
equality could always be achieved peacefully. Though his blunt (and sometimes militant) ideas
garnered many critics, it also gained him and his faith a large number of followers. The Nation of
Islam s members grew from 400 members in 1952 to over 40,000 members by 1960.
In 1963, Malcolm X learned that his hero Elijah Muhammad had violated the teachings of Islam by
fathering multiple children out of wedlock. Muhammad was also angered over Malcom s insensitive
comments about the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. These two events led Malcolm to
leave the Nation of Islam in 1964. He embarked on a trip through North Africa and the Middle East
and began to embrace socialism. He also made his pilgrimage, to Mecca, Saudi Arabia, and he

The Abdduction By Joyce Carol Oates Analysis
The Abduction Joyce Carol Oates has captivated the imagination of the reader within her short story
The Abduction. There are many components to making a story great as well, and in his Ted Talk The
Clues to a Great Story , Andrew Stanton goes into detail about the dos and don ts of story. Joyce Carol
Oates uses several of the positive references from Stanton s Ted Talk throughout her short story to
grab the reader s attention and envelope them into the story of a girl gone missing. As anyone can
imagine it is fascinating to read a story about something we would never want to happen to ourselves.
Whether it be a disappearance or a murder, the suspense intrigues the reader and triggers them to want
to find out the ending. The main character in The Abduction is a seventeen year old girl with the so
called maturity of someone much older, who slips up and puts herself into a dangerous situation. She
is abducted. Joyce Carol Oates immediately turns the reader s attention towards the girl directly into
the situation, personally placing them into the story trying to find out how to escape. In Stanton s Ted
Talk he explains the concept of Don t give them four, give them two plus two. Give the reader two
pieces of information separately and let them put it together on their own. Oates uses this concept
from the beginning when she says, it wasn t actually right away that she understood something was
wrong and he was making an effort not to talk too fast or get too excited and wasn t paying all that
much attention where he was driving to lead the reader in the direction of an abduction occurring. This
concept of leading the reader to the answer allows them to work for what they want in the end.
Stanton also discusses how the audience needs to like the main character as well in his quote, another
fundamental thing we learned was about liking your main character. from his Ted Talk. Within her
story, Oates pulls on the heartstrings of the reader by making the main character a naive teenage girl
attempting to get home who stumbles into the wrong situation. In the quote, she was seventeen years
old...walking there, alone, her shoulders hunched against the wind...she was asked by this man from
Oates s story,

Greek Mythology Heroes
In this paper I will analyze two characters in two separate works, one from a literary text and one from
a film. The focus of this paper will be on heroes that have a relationship to an element of mythology. I
will use the character Odysseus from Homer s epic poem, The Odyssey and the character Wonder
Woman from the American superhero film Wonder Woman . In this essay I will analyze the gender,
appearance, actions, and roles that these heroes have. Throughout this essay, I will also discuss the
negative characteristics that both these heroes have, such as their violent actions towards others.
Heroes possess numerous qualities that make them great, however, there are certain qualities of a hero
that are consistent throughout Greek mythology; bravery, intelligence, and strength. These qualities
are significant to these two Greek Mythologies because these heroes are known to bravely risk their
lives for others, using their wisdom to guide them, all while fighting strongly for what they believe in.
This paper will serve to prove that regardless of the gender of each of these personas, the
characteristics that define a hero remain consistent.
To begin, I would like to provide the reader with some background information that pertains to these
heroes. Wonder Woman is a superhero who is also known as Princess Diana, and she grew up on the
Amazon Island of Themyseria. Wonder Woman has been granted superhero powers by Zeus, to fight

Veno Anonymous Snakes Research Paper
Venomous snakes are known as rich sources of toxins among venomous animal species. Snakes
venoms are complex chemical mixtures of pharmacologically active compounds such as enzymes,
peptides and proteins with specific chemical and biological activities (Ménez et al., 2006, Jiminez

Snakes venoms are mostly reputed for their neurotoxic substances, which induce paralysis and death,

High anarchy Freedom Fun The TV advert begins by depicting jewellery and a gold crown with gems.
This gives connotations of wealth and luxury. Things you d expect when you re in royalty, particularly

as there is direct mode of address. This could mean there is an element of mystery as she has decided
not to smile fully. Similarly, in the second picture she s looking at the camera with her sharp eyes and
this time her mouth is a bit open, forming almost a smile. Yet again there is something which is
keeping her from showing a full smile, this perhaps could be her status showing she s a strong
character and doesn t have to prove her emotions to everybody yet at the same time she has to look
inviting. Her costume in both pictures are very fantasy looking (as if she just walked out of a fairy
tale). It s very elegant and puffy, it looks expensive and this would be expected if she is a princess. In
both campaigns they also use massive crowns/tiara s this grabs the audience s attention as it s very
captivating and glamorous. There are two types of fonts used in both campaigns, the Vera Wang part is

Building Construction Essay
Building construction is not an act of nature, and it typically is not a very environmentally friendly
activity. Every decision the architect and the engineer make throughout the development process; from

larger scale such as facilities, power plants, multi family units, bridges, and highways, will have a very
close and direct impact to the environment directly and indirectly. In order to achieve a better standard
for the living quality without causing further burdens and negative impacts to the planet earth, the
ways to manage these major environmental impacts from the construction need to be strongly
enforced. Existing researches have suggested that construction sector is one of the largest pollution
contributors in our current society due to poor design strategies and usage of wrong materials and
technologies. These impacts are typically classified as on site and off site construction activities. On
site activities include the actual construction of a physical facility, causing air pollution, water and soil
pollution, waste pollution, noise pollution, and traffic pollution. Off site activities are more focusing
on the relationship between the pollution to the mining and manufacturing of the materials, and the
transportations of the materials. To prevent these issues, more and more people have begun to look
into the importance of sustainable construction practices, and

The Message of Gwendolyn Brooks We Real Cool
The Message of Gwendolyn Brooks We Real Cool
We Real Cool is a short, yet powerful poem by Gwendolyn Brooks that sends a life learning message
to its reader. The message Brooks is trying to send is that dropping out of school and roaming the
streets is in fact not cool but in actuality a dead end street.
Brooks conveys her message in an ironic manner, which is presented in the title of the poem. Before
actually reading the 10 line poem the first thing that grabs the reader s attention is the title. After
reading the title We Real Cool one would assume that the intent of the poem is going to be about a
group of people who are fortunate and live a flamboyant lifestyle. This is not the case for the seven

The language used coincides with the player s lack of education. This is evident in the poem when we
are told they left school. We later learn that instead of attending school the players go to a pool hall.
The name of the pool hall, Golden Shovel contributes to the theme of the poem. The golden shovel
has a deeper meaning and serves as a symbol. The so called Golden lifestyle of the players will
eventually cost them their lives. In return they will eventually be [ shoveled ] in their grave. Several of
the lines in Brooks s poem begin with words that start with the same consonant letter; this is an
example of alliteration. The [l] sound in lurk late, the [str] sound in strike straight, and the [j] sound in
jazz June. The alliteration used allows the poem to flow smoothly.
Brooks makes great use of rhyme throughout the poem. She uses words such as cool , school , sin ,
and gin. These are external rhymes which appear at the end of lines. The rhyme scheme used
compliments the theme, since it is the directed towards a young audience. The reason we know that
Brooks is trying to attract a young crowd is because she is talking about youth who are suppose to be
attending school. The poem is given an up tempo beat, almost like a rap. This rap like sound may also
help attract young readers.
This poem describes the lifestyle of young rebels. They are cool having left school , and die soon. The

The Wellcome Collection Museum Analysis
The Wellcome Collection is a London museum that explores the connections between medicine, life
and art in the past, present and future. One of the prominent ways in which The Wellcome Collection
is utilising digital media is through the use of digital storytelling. This is a relatively new term that
describes a form of digital media production that allows people to share stories through video,
animation, photography, and audio. This makes the stories compelling and emotionally engaging, and,
like narrative based computer games, often involve user interaction. The resources available to
incorporate into a digital story are virtually limitless, giving the storyteller enormous creative latitude.

A Slave Legend, The Algonquin Cinderella, And Tam And Cam
We all know Cinderella, the girl whose step mother and sisters were horrendous to her. In the end she
gets the prince, of course. These tales don t follow that same story line. Their personalities, royal
future, their father figure, and the magic in the stories all differ. These four Cinderella tales are
Aschenputtel, The Twelve Months: A Slave Legend, The Algonquin Cinderella, and Tam and Cam.
Each has different elements that can be compared, but they also have elements that can be contrasted.

Their differences are from their fathers and royalty. In Aschenputtel, her father favors the stepsisters
and he marries a new wife within the next season. When she goes to the ball, she meets the prince and
he follows her home, finally finding her. Whereas in Twelve Months, the main character s father is not
included in the story at all. When she comes back, she meets a farmer. The farmer is considered the
royal aspect in this tale. Their differences are what makes the story lines completely different, but
have the same concept which is, good wins in the end. The other two tales being analyzed are The
Algonquin Cinderella and Tam and Cam. These tales have more differences than similarities. Their
similarity is within the magic. The magic is based off of the ideals of the time. In The Algonquin
Cinderella, the magical aspect about it is her wonderment and innocence. In Tam and Cam it is within
her religion, Buddhism. They are similar because they are social strengths based on the time and
culture. Another similarity they have is that each tale is full of culture. In each tale the magical aspects
are culturally based. In Tam and Cam it is shown in reincarnation. It is a Buddhist based tale, it brings
Buddha as the magic helping tool. As well as in The Algonquin Cinderella culture plays a major role.
In the Native American culture they viewed innocence as goodness. They looked upon it as a life
decision that was to be used. These also created the

Redhead Stereotypes
Life as a redhead is tough when you don t have a soul. It is extremely difficult living life without
sympathy or the inability to be kind towards others. In my mind I feel like I want to do these things,
but being a ginger, I just can t. I want to feel bad for people with blonde, black, brown, or whatever
other color of hair there is, but since I have red hair I just can t. I want to feel bad for all those other
hair colors who don t like as stunning as we do, but I just can t. Living without a soul is the hardest
part of being a redhead, but everything else is gravy.
The redhead stereotypes make me laugh. Obviously the one about us not having a soul, that we

I m the only one at my school with red hair so naturally I get all the attention. The benefits of being a
redhead are incredible. For starters, I never have to worry about the effects of the sun because I am
intelligent and make sure to lather myself with the highest grade of SPF sunblock there is. My
preference is Banana Boat for Men SPF 30, but anything lower than that is unacceptable. The second
benefit of my beautiful hair is all the compliments I receive from older ladies that see me for the first
time. It is almost guaranteed that when I am introduced to a lady who appears to be a grandmother, the
first thing out of her mouth is, Oh My Goodness! I love your hair! So I feel pretty special when that
happens. No other hair color can boast that like we can. Another great benefit of being a redhead is
that people automatically assume that you are a comedian. You can say something and people will
think it is the funniest thing on the planet. People look at redheads and laugh all the time. I like to
think they are laughing with us and not at us though. But this puts a lot of pressure on us because we
have to provide the world with comedy or else it will fall into oblivion perhaps. Probably not, but it is
nice getting recognition from people that we have a sense of humor. The last benefit is the holidays
that we get. If you are a ginger and don t know about National Kiss a GInger day, then you have been
missing out. One day in the whole year where someone kisses you because you have red hair. How
incredible is that? A free kiss because you were born with red hair. In my opinion this is one of the
greatest benefits of being a ginger. In the end people may laugh at us or with us, but they will never

Stereotypes and Stereotyping
A Stereotypical Female in I m Your Horse in the Night
Luisa Valenzuela s short story titled I m Your Horse in the Night is a thought provoking piece of
literature. The story is written in such a way that the reader must interpret what is meant by what is
being said. Although it is easy to go into depth when describing the elements of this piece, the
storyline is rather simple. The story contains an assortment of characters; with those characters being
Chiquita, Beto, Andres, and several policemen.
The time and location are unknown. The telephone tells us that the time period is of somewhat modern
times, and the Spanish ethnicity would most likely relate to the setting being that of a Spanish

The man in which Chiquita calls Beto would also be considered a major character. Even though the
man is never actually present in the story physically, we hear about him extensively through the
thoughts and words of Chiquita. The minor character roles would fall upon Andres, and the police
officers. Andres might not even qualify as being a valid character, considering that Chiquita was not
even sure whether it was him or not on the telephone that morning. The police men are a somewhat
important factor to this story, but they are not described as round characters and therefore show no
verisimilitude.
The title of the story, I m Your Horse in the Night, is relating to a line on the record which Beto
brought with him in Chiquita s dream. She tells Beto that she will be his horse in the night, meaning
that she will always be there for him.
While reading this story, it helps to apply the elements of new criticism.
One opposition that was quite distinct, was the fact that Chiquita is in love with this man who is never
there for her. She fantasizes about him, making it seem as though he would be an ideal mate, when he
obviously is not. Chiquita appears to be living off on her own. It seems as though she is almost
isolating herself from the rest of the world. The fact that she sees this wretched man as the one she
loves, would be a symbol of low self esteem. Perhaps he is the first

Essay about Preventing and Assessing Intensive Care Unit...
Abstract
Delirium in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) has become a genuine phenomenon and can be problematic
for the patient and the staff caring for them. Delirium occurs when a patient is placed in an unfamiliar
environment and has to endure the stress of not just the hospitalization but the stimuli of the
environment, which can cause disturbances in consciousness. Patients can become confused, anxious,
and agitated; making this difficult for the staff to correctly diagnosis and care for them. Sleep
deprivation and environmental factors along with neurotransmitters are strongly related to the
occurrence of ICU delirium. ICU staff needs to become more educated on prevention, detection, and
proper treatment for the patient experiencing this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This may lead to illusions or hallucinations (Figueroa Ramos, Arroyo Novoa, Lee, Padilla, Puntillo,
2009). Some signs of delirium are restlessness, anxiety, hallucinations, agitation, disorientation, and
any abnormal behavior. Some causes of ICU delirium are due to drugs, stress, environmental factors,
and sleep deprivation. Studies show a strong connection between sleep deprivation and delirium.
Alterations in specific neurotransmitters are the basis of current research (Figueroa Ramos, Arroyo
Novoa, Lee, Padilla, Puntillo, 2009). Enhanced assessment and nursing implementations to better
prevent and detect ICU delirium will bring improved outcomes for this particular patient population.
There are many ways to assess for ICU delirium. Two of the most reliable and easiest methods are
basic observations from the bedside nurse and The Confusion Assessment Method (CAM). The CAM
includes nine different criteria for delirium (1) acute onset and fluctuation, (2) inattention, (3)
disorganized thinking, (4) altered level of consciousness, (5) disorientation, (6) memory impairment,
(7) perceptual disturbances, (8) psychomotor agitation or retardation, and (9) altered sleep wake cycle.
A delirium diagnosis is given when criteria one and two and either three or four are present. The
second assessment tool for delirium detection is made from nursing observations. The nurse observes
the patient throughout their

Case Study On Refactoring
Survey of Software Refactoring Summary: The paper published by Tom Mens and Tom Tourwe
provides us an overview of existing research in software refactoring. The refactoring activities,
techniques, formalisms and the types of artifacts are taken into criteria. Since the software has been
evolving with time, the code has become more complex, hence the software development cost s major
part is given to software maintenance. Refactoring or restructuring is the problem which implies the
need of techniques that reduce software complexity by improving software quality. Refactoring is the
process of changing a software system in such a way that it does not alter the external behavior of the
code, yet improves its internal structure . The classes, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Here, automation, reliability, configurability, coverage and scalability or refactoring tools are
considered. Process Support: Software reengineering is important to restructure the old software,
which is essentially done by refactoring method. Evolution conflicts arise when parallel refactoring is
done. Same is the case with object oriented application frameworks, software families/ product line.
Critique: Firstly, refactoring cannot be applied for the codes written in non object oriented languages.
Secondly, refactoring cannot be done for the processes with less delivery time, this is because
refactoring requires considerable amount of time for testing. Thirdly, the refactoring process fails even
though it does not alter the behavior of the program. Next, the refactoring process depends on the
complexity of code and the errors and the design of the code. Refactoring won t be a good idea for
very complex codes. When the refactoring process is applied to a complex and high error code, the
rate of success is too low. The entire system is affected due to the loss of so much time and the cost
invested on the refactoring

The Global Positioning System (Gps)
Introduction:
The Global Positioning System (GPS) is a satellite based navigation system made up of a network of
24 satellites placed into orbit by the U.S. Department of Defense. GPS was originally intended for
military applications, but in the 1980s, the government made the system available for civilian use.
GPS works in any weather conditions, anywhere in the world, 24 hours a day. There are no
subscription fees or setup charges to use GPS.
The GPS is made up of three parts: satellites orbiting the Earth; control and monitoring stations on
Earth; and the GPS receivers owned by users. GPS satellites broadcast signals from space that are
picked up and identified by GPS receivers. Each GPS receiver then provides three dimensional ...

Essentially, the GPS receiver compares the time a signal was transmitted by a satellite with the time it
was received. The time difference tells the GPS receiver how far away the satellite is. Now, with
distance measurements from a few more satellites, the receiver can determine the user s position and
display it on the unit s electronic map. Figure: Working module.
A GPS receiver must be locked on to the signal of at least three satellites to calculate a 2D position
(latitude and longitude) and track movement. With four or more satellites in view, the receiver can
determine the user s 3D position (latitude, longitude and altitude). Once the user s position has been
determined, the GPS unit can calculate other information, such as speed, bearing, track, trip distance,
distance to destination, sunrise and sunset time and more.
When people talk about a GPS, they usually mean a GPS receiver. The Global Positioning System
(GPS) is actually a constellation of 27 Earth orbiting satellites (24 in operation and three extras in case
one fails). The U.S. military developed and implemented this satellite network as a military navigation
system, but soon opened it up to everybody else. Figure: NAVSTAR GPS satellite

The effects of Government Regulations on the Economy
The U.S. economy has somewhat recovered from the recession that began in 2008, but from my recent

businesses investments have been weak. The government regulates securities markets, the
environment, and even serves as a safety net for businesses that are at risk for bankruptcy. In many
efforts to mend the economy, regulations are costing the United States trillions of dollars. These
regulations are costly, but may be necessary if it produces an even larger economic and social benefit.

I m not saying that the government should not do anything to help the poor but raising minimum wage
may not be the best way to go about helping the poor either.
The EPA s fracking study is another example of how government regulations hamper the performance
of the economy. There should be measures in place to regulate clean and efficient ways to run
businesses, however, when looking at the bigger picture, I feel that the cost of running a clean and
efficient operation should not take precedence over the condition of the economy and our way of life.
The EPA s 5 year study on hydraulic fracturing on groundwater contamination appeared to be a
beneficial plan to alleviate water contamination, but as I have found from reading through multiple
articles in the class resources, there is cost when one side is benefiting from a situation. The fact that it
took 5 years and $30 million dollars for the EPA to develop a risk assessment did strike me as odd.
Personally, if I was being paid millions of dollars to conduct a study on water contamination, I would
prolong the study for as long as I could as well. Expenses like these are not the only reason why the
U.S. is in debt, but it certainly doesn t help the state of the economy either. On the other hand, even

Philisophical Background of The Stranger Essay
Camus The Stranger Its Philosophical Background
Albert Camus novel, The Stranger, appealed to a younger European generation that was trying to find
its view of life after the tragedies of WWII and Nazism. Though he eventually came to more mature
notions of how a human being should act before his tragic death from a accident in 1960, Camus
always believed in the ideas expressed in The Stranger that man must find his own meaning in life,
separate from religious or political doctrine. While he was brought up a Catholic, he largely rejected
religious authority and he opposed any rigid political authority because of his experiences with
totalitarianism. Marxism and Communism were popular political ideas in France at the time, but

Kierkegaard. Existentialism reacted against more standard philosophies such as rationalism and
empiricism that looked to find some order in the universe and in human affairs. The atheist Mersault s

himself could enjoy. His early writings also contrast the fragile mortality of human beings with the
enduring nature of the physical world. Camus interest in the physical world, as opposed to social life

Ivan Niven s Proof Of Pi Being Irrational
Ivan Niven s Proof of Pi Being Irrational The proof of pi being irrational can be done by contradiction.
To do this, Niven first assumed that π =a / b, for relatively prime integers, a and b. He then created a
polynomial function of power 2n that depends on the constant a and b. Next, define the polynomial for
a constant integer n, which Ivan Niven used in his proof:
This function f(x) has properties that are required in proving that pi is irrational. One property is that
when f(x) =0; then f(x) = f(π x) : For the polynomial n!f(x) = xn(a bx)n, the term (a bx)n can be
expanded into a new polynomial with integer coefficients ranging from power 0 to n using the

Lastly, Niven showed how the integral of f(x) sin(x) cannot always be an integer for all n values.

that f(x) sin(x) f(x). Niven used what he has stated before: f(x) = xn(a bx)n/n!, and showed how that (a

into the pubertal transition (about age 10 14 years, earlier in girls than in boys), these skills are
incorporated into a variety of individual and group activities and many organized sports. Mature
structure and function are approached or attained in late adolescence (age 15 18 years), so that
physical activity programs can be more structured.
Physical activity has not only physical benefits. It also has a very big impact on social emotional and
cognitive aspects of child s live. According to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention The
development of a physically active lifestyle is a goal for all children. Traditional team and competitive
sports may promote healthy activity for selected youth. Individual sports, noncompetitive sports,
lifetime sports, and recreational activities expand the opportunity for activity to everyone. The
opportunity to be active on a regular basis, as well as the enjoyment and competence gained from
activity, may increase the chances that a physically active lifestyle will be adopted.
Team sports for example not only provide physical activity for children. They also introduce them to
the meaning of teamwork and ability

The Tea Of Tea Masters
In Japan, much of the art that is popular today has been made popular by the endorsement that tea
masters have given it. Tea masters are highly regarded in Japan and they have a large influence on
what becomes popular and what is remembered. A tea master may say that a piece of art has
significance and their word means a great deal. The Tea Ceremony, also known as chanoyu, has long
been a tradition in the Japanese culture. It is defined as a ritualized, secular practice in which tea is
consumed in a specialized space with a codified procedure. It is an elaborate ceremony that has been
performed since the Edo Period in the seventeenth century. It is related to both the Samurai culture
and Zen Buddhism. Tea schools exist to teach the ways of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These utensils are used in the preparation of the tea. The movements used for the cleaning of the
utensils are delicate but deliberate and are performed with great concentration. Once the tools are
purified, the thick tea is prepared in a bowl. The guests will be drinking out of the same bowl. The tea
whisk is used to whisk the thick tea. Once the tea is prepared then the bowl is placed facing the guests.
The first guests picks up the bowl and the linen cloth and takes a sip from the bowl. The guest
expresses their pleasure in the tea and continues to drink until they have taken their designated amount
of tea. They then wipe the bowl where their lips touched and pass it to the next guest. When finished
the utensils are taken to the preparation room marking the end of the tea ceremony. The guests bow
and then leave the tea room.
The Japanese Tea ceremony is a secular ritual known for becoming popular in the Edo Period of
Japan. The Japanese Tea Ceremony is a ritual that takes place in the tea house. The tea house was a
place that was meant for Zen practice. It is an intimate affair held between small groups of people. The
Samurais were one of the first social groups to be associated with the Tea ceremony. The long
isolation of Japan from the rest of the world, so conductive to introspection, has been highly favorable
to the development of Teaism (Okakura). Japan used its isolation in order to

Power Dressing Essay
Dress shabbily; people remember the clothes. Dress impeccably; people remember the woman . Coco
Chanel (as cited in Jedinak, 2014, para.5).
2.1 Power Dressing Concept and Evolution
As most authors believe that there is no farcicality in the idea that the major aspect of Power Dressing
is procuring power and achieving authority through self respect. Why would power be at the core of
power dressing, if it didn t accrue power? (McCauley, 2015, para.1).
Born in the second half of the 1970s and developed in the 1980s, the phenomenon of Power Dressing
is a fashion style that enables women to establish their authority and ability in a professional and
political environment traditionally dominated by men. The term Power Dressing is relatable to a
fashion style typical of the business and political environment of the 1970s and 1980s. Today the
expression Power Dressing is no more commonly used, but the style is still very popular.
Author, Anna Akbari, believes that Power Dressing could be analysed through symbolic interactions
of power relations that operates in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Power Dressing did involve a lot of heightening ambivalence around the female body and its
appearance, which was misleading in terms of equality while reaffirming gender hierarchy. We need to
focus on the paradox, as to how Power Dressing can shape and police women s bodies but also
provoke them, thus can be seen as a reassertion of feminine ideals. Moreover, vexingly, the Power
Dressing paradox is associated with risk avoidance and conformity rather than adventure, trail blazing
and innovation (Goodall, para.12,

The Go Between and Spies
THE MAIN CHARACTERS IN THE GO BETWEEN AND SPIES ARE SOCIALLY OPRRESSED
ARE SOCIALLY OPPRESSSED How far do you agree with this statement? Social Oppression is a
main theme explored throughout the two tragic novels, The Go Between and Spies. Throughout the
novels, L.P. Hartley and Michael Frayn successfully convey the idea, through the use of their main
characters, the effects of social oppression and class divide. Using many techniques they show how
class and oppression had power over the people of the Victorian era. And even after the turn of the
century, People were still trapped in the shadows of the past era. Both novels are told as flashbacks
taking us through the lives of two main protagonists. The climax of both novels lead to the ... Show

Unlike Leo, Stephen s low class was known to everyone and he couldn t even dare to keep it a secret.
He was the other ranks and unlike Leo, although he felt the class difference he was still grateful to be

reference . He lived in a semi detached house attached to the pinchers making the whole situation even
more shameful . While his friend Keith lived in a house with white wicket gates with a neat red brick
path that curves through rose beds . He felt like he wasn t even worthy of the Hayward s as he says
The Hayward s were impeccable and yet they tolerated him and Mrs Hayward s incomprehensible
niceness . Stephen like Leo, has the colour green associated with them as Stephen admits everything
about me was plainly green . Stephen didn t dare to go against Keith s orders as Keith was the leader

Hip Hop In South Bronx
Hip Hop is a cultural movement that emerged from the dilapidated South Bronx, New York in the
early 1970 s. The area s mostly African American and Puerto Rican residents originated this uniquely
American musical genre and culture that over the past four decades has developed into a global
sensation impacting the formation of youth culture around the world. The South Bronx was a
whirlpool of political, social, and economic upheaval in the years leading up to the inception of Hip
Hop. The early part of the 1970 s found many African American and Hispanic communities
desperately seeking relief from the poverty, drug, and crime epidemics engulfing the gang dominated
neighborhoods. Hip Hop proved to be successful as both a creative outlet for ... Show more content on

The intention behind Mr. Moses plan was the transformation of Manhattan into a center city that was
connected directly to the suburbs via roadways built over the outer boroughs. Mr. Moses advocated
the elimination of mixed use cities by the creation of roadways making the locations easily accessible
by automobile. Essentially creating a suburban utopia free of the externalities associated with
congested city life and a commercial center city free of the hindrance associated with mixed land use
(Homolka 2010). The most significant of the newly constructed transportation network was the Cross
Bronx Expressway, a road cutting through the heart of the Bronx. To make way for this expansive
construction project the city employed eminent domain, displacing upwards of 60,000 local residents.
Uprooted residents, mainly impoverished African American and Puerto Rican families without enough
resources for better housing winded up in the expansive public and subsidized housing of the South
Bronx. Once a safe haven for the upwardly mobile first and second generation immigrants in the
prewar era, the Bronx was not always thought of as one of the nation s poorest slums. The shifting
post war economy took its toll on the once thriving manufacturing businesses

Sarbanes Oxley Act Of 2002
Sarbanes Oxley Act In reaction to a number of corporate and accounting scandals which included
Enron Congress passed The Sarbanes Oxley Act of 2002 (SOX) (Sarbox) also known as the Public
Company Accounting Reform and Investor Protection Act and the Corporate and Auditing
Accountability and Responsibility Act was enacted July 30, 2002. The Sarbane Oxley Act is a US
federal law that created new and expanded laws regarding the requirements for all US public company
boards, management, and accounting firms. The act has a number of provisions that apply to privately
owned companies. The Act addresses the responsibilities of a public corporation s Board of Directors,
adds criminal penalties for misconduct, and requires the SEC to create regulations that define how
public corporations are expected to comply with the law. The SOX increases the penalties a company
pays for fraudulent financial activity, and requires top management to provide individual verification
to certify the accuracy of financial information, while also increasing the oversight role of a company
s Board of Directors and the independence of outside auditors.
The Major Elements of the Sarbane Oxley Act
1. Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB)

Essay on Investigate the Water Potential of Potato Cells
Investigate the Water Potential of Potato Cells
Introduction
In my investigation, I hope to determine the water potential of potato cells. The plant material I will
use in my investigation will be potato chips, which I will cut myself prior to the investigation.
I hope to find the concentration of a solution where the chip stays the same mass and length, which
will tell me that the water potential inside the cells is the same as the water potential outside the cells.
Background
Osmosis is defined as the movement of water through a semi permeable membrane. Semi permeable
membranes are permeable to water but impermeable to certain dissolved substances. In the case of this
experiment, the sucrose molecules cannot ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I will measure the length and cross sectional area for each chip.
o Time the chip is left in the solution I think that if I were to leave the chips in the solution for only a
small amount of time there might not be sufficient time for the osmosis to occur, so that the chips
would not differ in size enough for conclusive results. Therefore, I will need to give a good amount of
time for the osmosis to occur.
o Temperature I believe that all reactions happen quicker when there is a higher temperature, so
diffusion across the membrane may be faster at higher temperature.
o Concentration of sucrose solution I think that the lower the concentration of the external sucrose
solution, the more the chip will expand (because the cells become turgid).
o Total Volume of sucrose solution I think that changing the volume of sucrose solution may affect the
results of my investigation.
Variable I will change:
I will change the concentration of sucrose solution in my experiment, because I believe the results of
that experiment will tell me the water potential of the potato cells.
Fair Test
I will carry out all my experiments at the same temperature, 20°C, because that is room temperature,
and I will not have to heat up anything. I will cut my chips to the same dimensions every time, using a
ruler, and a sharp knife (for accuracy) to

Drosophila Melanogaster Research Paper
Upon analyzing the mutant Drosophila melanogaster and comparing it to its wild type counterpart, it
was determined that the allele of the mutant gene phenotypically alters eye color. There are no other
physical differences concerning bristles, wing shape, body color, wing venation, nor eye shape. Wild
type male and female D. melanogaster have vibrant orange eyes with the addition of a black, pseudo
pupil in the center (Figure 1. C and D). Their eye color appears to darken with age. Male and female
wild type eye color does not vary significantly. Mutant male and female D. melanogaster have a
significantly darker eye color than the wild type flies. The color resembles a reddish shade that
resembles wine or oxidized blood (Figure 1. A and B). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first possible gene is ras1 or raspberry gene. This gene is located on the X chromosome and at
9E1 9E2 on the cytogenetic map. The location on the recombination map is unknown. The ras1 gene
is a possible choice due to the dark red and orange color combination that it expresses. (Nash et al.
1994) Another gene is the Pur1 or the purplish ruby gene. This gene is located at 3 39.5 on the
recombination map. The Pur1 gene could be responsible for the mutant s eye coloration due to the red
and brown pigments that are present. (Aparisi and Najera 1990) The pr1 or purple gene is another
possible explanation for the mutant s eye color. This gene is located at 38B3 38B3 on the cytogenetic
map. It s location on the recombination map is 2 54.5. The purple gene has a high probability of being
responsible for the mutant s eye color due to the light reddish color combined with a touch of orange
and the similar texture that it possesses. (Kim et al. 1996) Another possible gene is ry1 or rosy. This
gene is located on the 3R chromosome. Its location on the recombination map is 3 52.0. The rosy gene
can be located at 87D9 87D9 on the cytogenetic map. Rosy gene is another possibility because it
possess a red shade with more orange and brown pigments that could compensate for the lighting
when viewing the mutant specimen through the stereoscope. (Zhou and Riddiford

As long as visual media has existed there have been individuals attempting to test the boundaries of
their particular medium. Peter Gabriel s Sledgehammer , whose music video was directed by Stephen
Johnson, was able to bridge the gap between experimental filmmaking and mainstream success as it
went on to win numerous accolades for its innovative music video. The video utilized many
techniques not typically used in visual media, especially music videos, and was one of the first music
videos to bring unconventional filmmaking techniques to the general public. Upon watching
Sledgehammer for the first time it is quite clear that the video was not afraid to shy away from
mainstream techniques and try something different. One of the techniques

The Importance Of Freedom Rides
Imagine how it would feel if you were not allowed to go into the same bathroom as everyone else, if
you were told to sit in a cut off section of a restaurant, or if you were made to sit on the back of a
public bus. African Americans had to endure that way of life majority of the 20th century. They did
not get the same equal rights as any other human beings in America(Lifson). Because of the
mistreatment, African Americans began to take a stand and speak out on the injustices they face
everyday just because of the color of their skin, and it began a powerful movement. They had multiple
protest to push for equal rights: sit ins, marches, bus boycotts, etc. In the 1960s an organization called

. C.O.R.E., started in the early 1940 s, is an organization founded on a college campus as a spinoff of
the Pacifist fellowship of reconciliation(Histor/Watch). James Farmer, C.O.R.E. s first black national
director, was the man who organized the new generation of freedom rides(the freedom rides 1961). He
was a civil rights activist/leader who pushed for non violence protests. C.O.R.E. s goals when starting
the freedom rides was to desegregate interstate transportation facilities in the south in a nonviolent
way. C.O.R.E recruited young college students to go on this journey(core online). They knew that
residents in the south would not react well to what they were trying to do, so they prepared the recruits
like football coaches prepare their players to get tackled. C.O.R.E practiced role playing situations
with the recruits to train them on what would be said/what would be done to them. While role playing,
hateful things would be said and the students would even be physically harmed. The preparation was
emotionally and physically rough, but it was nothing compared to what these riders would have to go
through(freedom riders. pbs)

Loyalty And Loyalty In Beowulf
Beowulf is an old English poem written by an anonymous poet from the Anglo Saxon era. The poem
is about a strong warrior that conquers monsters and eventually goes on to become King. His kingdom
is being destroyed by a monsters and Beowulf uses his power and bravery to annihilate all of them.
Beowulf s first warfare was against Grendel, which is a monster that has been destroying the
Sclydings. Beowulf battles Grendel in the Mead Hall at Herot and tear s off Grendel s arm, almost
instantly killing it. Grendel s mother striked at the Danes to get back at them for killing Grendel but,
Beowulf followed her back to her home and killed her. One important idea in this story is that loyalty
is everything. For example, Beowulf is loyal to Hrothgar when he agrees to help get rid of Grendel,
who has been destroying the mead hall for the past twelve years. This is important because loyalty
will always be important and it will take you far in life. Beowulf was rewarded with becoming king
because he was brave and loyal. When you re loyal, you receive things in life that can change your life
and will keep you in good standing with people and you never know when you will need them to do
something for you. The Wife of Bath s Tale: A knight assaulted a young woman during the time of
King Arthur. He was sentenced to death but, the queen begged King Arthur to reprieve his life. The
Queen was then liability of the knight s life. She then gave him a riddle. The Queen asked him to find

  • 2. August Wilson Fences Sometimes you have to pick the gun up to put the gun down. This quote was said by Malcolm X, who was an African American Minister and a human rights activist. It means that sometimes you have to fight in order to achieve peace. I agree with what he said because in order to get what you want you have to fight for it. Two literary works that reflect this quote are Fences, a play about the struggles of African American before and during the Civil Rights Era in the 1950s and 60s, by August Wilson and The Yellow Wallpaper a short story that shows the difference between women and men during that time, by Charlotte Perkins Gilman. Fences shows the revolution the characters face, their actions and what is the result of those choices. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The lack of acknowledgment in the play Fences between Troy and Cory cause their relationship to decline even further. One of the greatest sources of disappointment in Troy s life is the fact that he wasn t allowed to play pro baseball, Even though he used to hit homeruns in the Negro Leagues, he couldn t go to the majors because of racial discrimination. He doesn t let Cory play football, because he doesn t want Cory to feel what he felt during his time. Troy s lack of acknowledgment of Cory s potential destroys Cory s dream by not signing the papers and not letting the college recruiter from coming. I got sense enough not to let my boy get hurt playing no sports (Wilson 39) He unconsciously stats that he doesn t want Cory to feel how he felt during his time. This quote references flashback because in this quote Troy refers back to what had happened to him during his athletic career, and how it affected his life. In this quote he speaks like a father who is making decisions for his son and his future, even though the people around him is telling him that the time has changed and it is not like before. Troy s lack of acknowledgment causes Cory to lose his dream and late Cory to leave the house. In the play Fences, Troy s demand for change caused him to revolt against the company. Even after the abolishment of slavery the blacks were not treated equally nor had any ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. Pre Modern East Asia Essay Scholars such as John K. Fairback and David Kang have argued that the theory of the tribute system can explain most of pre modern East Asian history. However, there was an interesting period of pre modern East Asian history that cannot be fully explained by the tribute system. This was the Imjin War of 1592 1598, also known as the greatest international conflict in pre modern East Asia. If pre modern East Asian countries were tributaries under the hegemon that is China, they would not rebel against their hegemon. As Japan rebelled by attempting to conquer China through Korea, the tribute system cannot explain the Imjin War. This essay will use an alternate theory, a theory of self interest, to discuss the international relations of Japan, Korea, and China during the Imjin War (1592 1598). During the Imjin War, each nation acted out of its own self interest rather than as a result of diplomatic hierarchy. In this alternate theory, the self interest of each nation stems from the hierarchy within the nations themselves. Because there was no democracy in East Asia in the late sixteenth century, each nation had a ruler who had consolidated central power. Also, because Confucian nations greatly valued prestige, protecting and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Chinese military leaders protected the self interest of Ming China by using Korean soldiers as buffers in battle. If Ming China waged battle with Japan on their own, they would have suffered many more casualties. However, by using the Korean soldiers already stationed in Korea and already fighting in the war, China was able to reduce the loss of Chinese life (Hur (2015), p.244). The actions taken by Ming China and Chinese leadership during the Imjin War can also be explained by the self interest theory, as they were looking to preserve the lives of their own people without regard for the lives of their foreign tributary ... • 5. French Education System Essay French Education System: France has a centralized education system, with a curriculum set at a national level. The majority of schools are public, free, and state run (ecoles publiques). Some private schools (sous contrat) exist that are run and subsidized by the French government, which charge nominal fees. Fully independent private schools exist (ecoles prives hors contrat), which are fee paying. These independent private scgools can be religiously oriented, or international / bilingual. The learning style tends to be of a traditional nature, which entails classroom learning, testing, and discipline. French schools value the authority of the teacher, competition, evaluating through grading, and analytical thinking over creativity. Class sizes tend to be large, with 30 or more students per class. Teachers teach one subject in most scenarios, which is typical of the traditional method. Changes have been presented to reform the French schooling system, but is met with opposition that prefers the traditional method. French schooling is split up into three primary and secondary levels: primary school (école), middle school (collège), and high school (lycée). After high school, students can attend university or enter the workforce. French students take the baccalauréat exam towards the end of their primary and secondary schooling. Passing the test is necessary to attend university. Performance on the exam is highly scrutinized, and high tier grades receive special honors. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Mentoring Mentorship Module In this essay I aim to reflect and critically analyse my completion of the learning development plan and to identify how the skills and knowledge that I have gained as a mentor will enable me to lead learning in my area of practice. I will be using the What model of reflection (Driscoll 2000) throughout this essay. What? As part of the mentorship module I was required to complete a Learning Development Plan (LDP). Part of the LDP involved writing a lesson plan which was then taught to a student under the supervision of my mentor. A copy of the lesson plan can be found within the LDP. An assessment plan was then used to evaluate the learning that had taken place and to assess the competency of the student. I am ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It makes sense, therefore, that before we explore how we teach, we understand how people learn . From discussion with my student prior to the lesson I learnt that she too had a more activist learning style and I felt that this match would provide a more harmonious learning environment between myself and the student. Whilst there is validity in attempting to match teaching styles with learning styles (Quinn amp; Hughes 2007) there is also research to show that by moving the student outside of their dominant learning style will stimulate learning and the challenge will promote more creative learning (Tennant 1997 and Partridge 1983). I was aware of my student s dominant learning style and my lesson on Intubation was a practical one which would be more suited to her, however, I felt that in order to teach the subject effectively, the lesson in part would have to have a theoretical approach in order to cover the aspects of airway anatomy and physiology, rationale for intubation and the hazards, precautions and complications of the procedure. Once I had completed my lesson plan, I was concerned that it was weighted far more to a reflector or theorist style of learning and that my student would become bored and de motivated. This is also argued by Gopee (2008) who states that the mentor should endeavour to develop awareness of their mentee s learning style to see if they can adapt to them to make their teaching more effective . These were the cause for many uprisings various countries. Most of the revolutions died down quickly. The reason for most of the revolutions ending abruptly was the fact that there was disunity amongst the leaders of the revolutions. A good way to see this is to look at such countries as Germany and Frances revolutions. The fact that there was a sever depression and low employment rate at the time is a reason that this revolution started. In France, the revolution began with a riot lead by Parisians. This riot lead to Louis Phillippe fleeing to Great Britain. Soon a provisional government was established. It soon also had disunity amongst the leaders. This second republic was formed and there was soon fighting in the streets. The bloody June days gave the Parisians a chance to fight the government troops. Again they were back were they started. This uprising was crushed and ensured the conservative nature of the republic. This created a fear among the bourgeoisie of hard working radicals that influenced French politics. This new constitution established a presidential republic with a single assembly. These were to be chosen by universal male suffrage. Louis Napoleon soon ran for presidency and he was victorious with an overwhelming vote in his behalf. He soon gave France a new constitution. A year later he took the throne as Napoleon III. From 1937 to 1945, Japan started a series of wars, and resulted in millions of casualties along the way. Japanese battlefield consists of three parts: China, Pacific and Southeastern Asia. Japanese started these wars because they wanted to gain resources and war advantages for their own country. Japan committed crimes against humanity during their wars, which means they neglected human dignity and degraded human value by humiliation. Joseph Keenan, the chief prosecutor during the Tokyo Trial after the war, stated that the attack on Pearl Harbor violated both the war agreement and was a deceitful and treacherous act: But the attack of Pearl Harbor did not alone result in murder and the slaughter of thousands of human beings. It did not eventuate only in the destruction of property. It was an outright act of undermining and destroying the hope of a world for peace. (Keenan 57 58). In addition, the attack on Pearl Harbor was a crime against humanity since Japan gave American soldiers no time to organize proper defense, and deprived them of their right to fight for their safety. Japan also humiliated U.S. soldiers during the attack, which is a violation against human dignity. Japan attacked the Pearl Harbor to weaken U.S. , as a powerful response to U.S. oil embargo to Japan. In 1941, Japan and China reached stalemate, and the former was in dire need of resources for a long war. U.S. and the Western oil sanction did not want Japan to exploit the oil resources in China and Southeastern Asia, so U.S. set an embargo on oil to restrict Japan. Japan wanted the resources, but was concerned with U.S. military power, so it decided to strike a sudden attack to weaken U.S. in order to acquire resources and win the Sino Japanese war. • 14. The Influence Of Malcolm X On The Nation Of Islam Malcolm began to work with the leader of the Nation of Islam, Elijah Muhammad, to expand the amount of black members in the religious group s following. Malcolm X became the minister of Temple No. 7 in Harlem and Temple No. 11 in Boston, while also founding new temples in Hartford and Philadelphia. It was then that he met Betty Sanders, who also changed her last name to X. They married on January 14, 1958, in Michigan, and she gave him six daughters. Malcolm continued his advocacy and also established a national newspaper, , in 1960 in an effort to further promote the Islamic message. He a gifted orator and he easily convinced blacks to end racism by any means necessary, including violence. He did not believe that equality could always be achieved peacefully. Though his blunt (and sometimes militant) ideas garnered many critics, it also gained him and his faith a large number of followers. The Nation of Islam s members grew from 400 members in 1952 to over 40,000 members by 1960. In 1963, Malcolm X learned that his hero Elijah Muhammad had violated the teachings of Islam by fathering multiple children out of wedlock. Muhammad was also angered over Malcom s insensitive comments about the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. These two events led Malcolm to leave the Nation of Islam in 1964. • 15. The Abdduction By Joyce Carol Oates Analysis The Abduction Joyce Carol Oates has captivated the imagination of the reader within her short story The Abduction. There are many components to making a story great as well, and in his Ted Talk The Clues to a Great Story , Andrew Stanton goes into detail about the dos and don ts of story. Joyce Carol Oates uses several of the positive references from Stanton s Ted Talk throughout her short story to grab the reader s attention and envelope them into the story of a girl gone missing. As anyone can imagine it is fascinating to read a story about something we would never want to happen to ourselves. Whether it be a disappearance or a murder, the suspense intrigues the reader and triggers them to want to find out the ending. The main character in The Abduction is a seventeen year old girl with the so called maturity of someone much older, who slips up and puts herself into a dangerous situation. She is abducted. Joyce Carol Oates immediately turns the reader s attention towards the girl directly into the situation, personally placing them into the story trying to find out how to escape. In Stanton s Ted Talk he explains the concept of Don t give them four, give them two plus two. Give the reader two pieces of information separately and let them put it together on their own. Oates uses this concept from the beginning when she says, it wasn t actually right away that she understood something was wrong and he was making an effort not to talk too fast or get too excited and wasn t paying all that much attention where he was driving to lead the reader in the direction of an abduction occurring. This concept of leading the reader to the answer allows them to work for what they want in the end. Stanton also discusses how the audience needs to like the main character as well in his quote, another fundamental thing we learned was about liking your main character. from his Ted Talk. Within her story, Oates pulls on the heartstrings of the reader by making the main character a naive teenage girl attempting to get home who stumbles into the wrong situation. In the quote, she was seventeen years old...walking there, alone, her shoulders hunched against the wind...she was asked by this man from Oates s story, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 16. , Wonder Woman And Wonder Woman Greek Mythology Heroes In this paper I will analyze two characters in two separate works, one from a literary text and one from a film. The focus of this paper will be on heroes that have a relationship to an element of mythology. I will use the character Odysseus from Homer s epic poem, The Odyssey and the character Wonder Woman from the American superhero film Wonder Woman . In this essay I will analyze the gender, appearance, actions, and roles that these heroes have. Throughout this essay, I will also discuss the negative characteristics that both these heroes have, such as their violent actions towards others. Heroes possess numerous qualities that make them great, however, there are certain qualities of a hero that are consistent throughout Greek mythology; bravery, intelligence, and strength. These qualities are significant to these two Greek Mythologies because these heroes are known to bravely risk their lives for others, using their wisdom to guide them, all while fighting strongly for what they believe in. This paper will serve to prove that regardless of the gender of each of these personas, the characteristics that define a hero remain consistent. To begin, I would like to provide the reader with some background information that pertains to these heroes. Every decision the architect and the engineer make throughout the development process; from smaller scale constructions such as farm lands, parks, single housing units, and sewage system to a larger scale such as facilities, power plants, multi family units, bridges, and highways, will have a very close and direct impact to the environment directly and indirectly. In order to achieve a better standard for the living quality without causing further burdens and negative impacts to the planet earth, the ways to manage these major environmental impacts from the construction need to be strongly enforced. Existing researches have suggested that construction sector is one of the largest pollution contributors in our current society due to poor design strategies and usage of wrong materials and technologies. These impacts are typically classified as on site and off site construction activities. On site activities include the actual construction of a physical facility, causing air pollution, water and soil pollution, waste pollution, noise pollution, and traffic pollution. Off site activities are more focusing on the relationship between the pollution to the mining and manufacturing of the materials, and the transportations of the materials. Andres might not even qualify as being a valid character, considering that Chiquita was not even sure whether it was him or not on the telephone that morning. The police men are a somewhat important factor to this story, but they are not described as round characters and therefore show no verisimilitude. The title of the story, I m Your Horse in the Night, is relating to a line on the record which Beto brought with him in Chiquita s dream. There should be measures in place to regulate clean and efficient ways to run businesses, however, when looking at the bigger picture, I feel that the cost of running a clean and efficient operation should not take precedence over the condition of the economy and our way of life. The EPA s 5 year study on hydraulic fracturing on groundwater contamination appeared to be a beneficial plan to alleviate water contamination, but as I have found from reading through multiple articles in the class resources, there is cost when one side is benefiting from a situation. The fact that it took 5 years and $30 million dollars for the EPA to develop a risk assessment did strike me as odd. Personally, if I was being paid millions of dollars to conduct a study on water contamination, I would prolong the study for as long as I could as well. Expenses like these are not the only reason why the U.S. is in debt, but it certainly doesn t help the state of the economy either. On the other hand, even though the EPA may be costly ... Evidence of a crime that detectives and law enforcement discover is as equally important as a good trial on part of the prosecution. If detectives aren t able to find good solid evidence that case usually isn t bothered in being pursued. Several years ago, in the late 80 s, there was a murder case in Southeastern Oklahoma which now serves as a tragic example to the need for honest, constitutional work in the criminal justice system. Early the next morning of December 8th, the lifeless body of Debbie Carter was found strangled in her small apartment. The murder of Debbie Carter flipped this small, rural, bible belt, town on its head. People were outraged, overwhelmed, and stunned that such a thing could happen in this town to a young, beautiful girl whom everyone had known. This gruesome act put enormous pressure on local law enforcement to find the atrocious criminal. Finger prints, hair, and blood spatter was carefully collected from the scene. Over the next few days dozens of people who had seen Debbie the night of her murder went to the station where they were interviewed, gave blood and hair samples. The investigation seemed promising, but months later leads began drying out and detectives found themselves back at square one. Philisophical Background of The Stranger Essay Camus The Stranger Its Philosophical Background Albert Camus novel, The Stranger, appealed to a younger European generation that was trying to find its view of life after the tragedies of WWII and Nazism. Though he eventually came to more mature notions of how a human being should act before his tragic death from a accident in 1960, Camus always believed in the ideas expressed in The Stranger that man must find his own meaning in life, separate from religious or political doctrine. While he was brought up a Catholic, he largely rejected religious authority and he opposed any rigid political authority because of his experiences with totalitarianism. Marxism and Communism were popular political ideas in France at the time, but Camus ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Existentialism emphasized the freedoms that humans have and the need to exercise their individual human will in responsible ways. His philosophy tended to be atheistic and Camus himself rejected all religion. The existentialists borrowed many of their basic ideas from the 19th century German Nietzsche, although there also were Christian types of existentialism derived from the work of Kierkegaard. Existentialism reacted against more standard philosophies such as rationalism and empiricism that looked to find some order in the universe and in human affairs. The atheist Mersault s denial of any rational meaning to his life represents this idea in fictionalized form Camus philosophy seems to have come out of his personal experience. He grew up poor in Algeria but seemed to recognize from a young age that even the poor could appreciate the beauty of nature. It has been noted, according to the Encyclopedia Britannica that his early essays were intensely lyrical meditations on the Algerian countryside. He valued natural beauty as something even poor people like himself could enjoy. His early writings also contrast the fragile mortality of human beings with the enduring nature of the physical world. Camus interest in the physical world, as opposed to social life or emotions, is well displayed in The Stranger. In the novel, Mersault is interested in reactions of his own body, his sexual ... • 36. Ivan Niven s Proof Of Pi Being Irrational Ivan Niven s Proof of Pi Being Irrational The proof of pi being irrational can be done by contradiction. To do this, Niven first assumed that π =a / b, for relatively prime integers, a and b. He then created a polynomial function of power 2n that depends on the constant a and b. Next, define the polynomial for a constant integer n, which Ivan Niven used in his proof: This function f(x) has properties that are required in proving that pi is irrational. One property is that when f(x) =0; then f(x) = f(π x) : For the polynomial n!f(x) = xn(a bx)n, the term (a bx)n can be expanded into a new polynomial with integer coefficients ranging from power 0 to n using the binomial theorem. Niven used what he has stated before: f(x) = xn(a bx)n/n!, and showed how that (a bx) a when x is bounded between 0 and π. From this Niven stated that must be a smaller value than (a)n. Activities of children aged 6 to 9 years are largely anaerobic (as in non sustained activities or games such as tag ), and they help the child learn basic and more specialized motor skills. As youth move into the pubertal transition (about age 10 14 years, earlier in girls than in boys), these skills are incorporated into a variety of individual and group activities and many organized sports. Mature structure and function are approached or attained in late adolescence (age 15 18 years), so that physical activity programs can be more structured. The poem is about a strong warrior that conquers monsters and eventually goes on to become King.
