Child Custody Interests
Child custody arrangements have evolved over the years from a time when children were once seen as
property of the father. This began to change as society became more focused on the development of
children, understanding the formative years of childhood evolved into adulthood. Mothers have
historically been granted custody in the majority of custody cases as determined in nineteenth century
by the tender year s doctrine. Once the tender years doctrine had been determined to be in violation of
the fourteenth amendment the primary caretaker rule was developed based on who was the primary
caretaker prior to the divorce. With the increase in divorce rates and the legislation of Uniform
Marriage and Divorce Act of 1976 set the standard for the Best Interests of the Child. The best interest
of the child concept moved away from parental rights, focusing on several factors such as
relationships between parent and child, school and home adjustments, mental and physical wellbeing
of parents, and wishes of both parents. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It was during this time that men began looking for work outside of the local area of farms, leaving
women behind to manage the house. This brought about a change due to the roles men took as wage
earners and women became the nurturer. Despite some vagueness of the Best Interests of the Child
concept, it has been beneficial in respecting parents rights who may have be living in nontraditional
parenting arrangements, are homosexual or have severe physical disabilities. Societal changes
influenced legal custodial arrangements to increase greater contact between fathers and their children
to decrease the negative psychological effects of divorce, such as feeling abandoned due to inadequate
time with the noncustodial parent

Style of painting
Juan Luna s paintings are described as being vigorous, realistic and dramatic and with romantic
elements. In a single brush stroke, he paints a fair of emotions that fills the beholder with drama and
tragedy of his theme. His style shows the influence of Delacroix, Rembrandt, and Daumier. However,

Another critic also said that although Leonardo worked on the Mona Lisa over a number of years in a
number of different cities, none of his business or household records contain any mention of a model
who might have sat for the portrait.
In an article in the January issue of Arts and Antiques, Schwartz describes how her conclusions tie
together a number of seemingly unrelated anomalies in the painting, its shadowy quality, the unusual
dress, the lack of jewelry, the awkward pose and the split pair of unrelated landscapes on either side of
the figure.
She points out that Leonardo s delight in riddles caused him to plant clues in all his paintings and that
the Mona Lisa was no exception.
When these clues are taken together with da Vinci s known homosexuality and life style, a picture
emerges of the great painter creating a disguised self portrait in women s clothes.
As Schwartz puts it, That famous smile, so tantalizing for so many centuries is the mirrored smile of
da Vinci himself.
Another says he haven t seen the big deal of the painting. He quoted It s just a portrait of a not
particularly interesting woman against a dark and mountainous backdrop. Undoubtedly highly
proficient technically, it is, to my eye, an unemotional and unmoving piece of art.

Capital Punishment and Methods of Execution
Capital Punishment Thirty two out of the fifty states in the United States of America accommodate to
the death sentence, with Virginia being the one of the largest contributors following that of Texas. In
1976, the death sentence was reinstated by the Supreme Court; this produced the outcome of Texas
holding the largest number of executions within all the states. Every year, people are brutally killed by
inhumane methods of death. Who s to say whether another person has the right to live or not? By
taking the life of another, is to play God. In spite of the fact that some find it to be unethical taking
another man s life, about 70% of the public agree with the continuation of the death penalty.
Methods of execution include lethal injection; being the first option for most, electrocution, gas
chamber, hanging, and lastly by firing squad; which is only legal in two states, Oklahoma and Utah;
however is it only used if lethal injection is deemed unconstitutional. Many Countries support this
ideal; however, there are those who greatly oppose of it. According to the writers on
Religioustolerance.org, Some countries, such as Italy, routinely refuse to extradite accused murderers
to the US because of the possibility that they might be executed. Canada originally refused to extradite
suspected mass murderer Charles Ng to California for a trial. The government ruling was later
overturned by Canada s Supreme Court. Like Canada, the United States should consider abolishing

Ned Kelly, A Hero Or A Villain
Ned Kelly was certainly a villain rather a hero
Ned Kelly was certainly a villain due to his violent and bloodthirsty behavior throughout his life. Even
as a child, Ned was involved in trouble and developed an early life of crime. To contribute to the
crimes, Ned Kelly is to blame for infamous attack at Stringybark Creek. Finally Kelly was the gang
leader in the merciless shootout of the Glenrowan Siege. Kelly s trouble with the law quickly
escalated through indecent behaviour, assault and stock theft to police killer.
Ned Kelly is definitely a villain because of his development of an early endless life of crime. Kelly did
not receive a normal childhood and was instead meddling with the law. The Kelly s were often in
trouble with the police over horse and cattle theft. At the age of fourteen in 1869, Kelly was arrested
and served seven weeks in jail for the alleged assault of Ah Fook, a Chinese pig farmer. At such a
young age, Ned Kelly was already known for his crimes and explains why he is undeniably a villain.
Furthermore, as Kelly grew older his crimes started to worsen. Again in 1869, Ned was alleged of
being assistant to thief turned bushranger Harry Power and was charged for helping out during some
robberies. Due to these interactions with people doing crime, Kelly was further drawn into the world
of crime. Kelly was again jailed in 1870 for three years after assaulting a hawker (salesperson) and
also being in possession of a stolen horse. Ned Kelly s criminal actions didn t end there. On the 15th
of April, 1878, Kelly shot at Constable Alexander Fitzpatrick in the wrist after he became too friendly
with his sister Kate. Kelly s crime rate was endless.Later the Kelly gang led by their leader Ned Kelly,
committed some major robberies in the National Bank branches at Euroa and Jerilderie. At Jerilderie,
the gang even held police and civilians hostage while stealing all the money from the bank s vaults.
Ned Kelly s early life was corrupted in crime with theft and assault and added towards his increase in
villainy.
Ned Kelly was certainly a villain rather than a hero due to his barbaric actions at Stringybark Creek.
Stringybark Creek was the new hiding point for the Kelly gang. On the 26th of October

Suggestions For Apsi From Billie Jean Clemens
Suggestions for APSI from Billie Jean Clemens 1. A misunderstanding still exists as to the approach of
the redesign. What does it mean to teach history in the digital age where students have access to facts
at the swipe of a finger? Teachers need to understand that the redesign represents a paradigm shift in
the way history is taught, no longer does one need to cover it all at breakneck speed and hope
something sticks. However, how does one teach a conceptual approach to history that emphasizes the
application of historical thinking skills while still holding students accountable for a core of
knowledge? The workshops, through collaborative conversations and the development of quality
lesson plans, need to educate teachers as to what this really looks like in the classroom. 2. Above all,
the workshops need to emphasize the crucial role of historical thinking skills; how one would teach
those skills; AND, how those skills are assessed on the test. While the new Curriculum Framework
has done a nice job of explaining these skills, teachers need explicit instruction on how the skills are
assessed on the exam. For example, in the CF, neither the description nor the proficient expectations
explain that in a periodization essay students must explain how the period was different AND similar
to the developments that preceded and/or followed. Even though this is clearly stated on the rubrics
for the exam, a teacher new to the course would have to realize that both

Wireless Technologies
Wireless Technologies
Introduction
As wireless technology has begun to mature, the demand for wireless products has increased as new
applications for the technology are realized. One application for wireless technology at the U.S. Naval
Academy is to use the wireless capability to enhance classroom instruction. Currently the Electrical
Engineering and Physics Departments have wireless access points and wireless laptops/desktops
available for classroom instruction. The purpose of this report is to provide the technical research
necessary to aid decision makers in determining which wireless technologies the Naval Academy
should invest.
Background
In a wireless network, computers communicate with the network through a radio ... Show more

Each access point can practically service between 32 to 64 users, depending upon manufacturer. The
bandwidth will be shared by all users. The number of radio channels associated with each technology
will vary by technology and product manufacturer. Multiple channels allows for multiple access points
to be collocated in order to provide access for a larger number of users.
Current USNA Uses
The Electrical Engineering Department currently uses the Dell suite with a wireless access point and
24 wireless laptops. They use the wireless network for in class projects where the use of either
simulation (OPNET) or design software (PSPICE) is being taught and used.
The Physics department is using a LinkSys 802.11b wireless access point and LinkSys wireless NIC
cards with desktop computers. Their primary use is for internet access.
Recommendation
The best technology system for the Naval Academy would be the 802.11a standard. It has 54 Mbps
throughput capability as well as adequate range, sufficient for classroom use. Since the 54 Mbps is
shared amongst all users, it would allow, at a minimum, 2 Mbps for each user in a class of 20
midshipmen operating simultaneously. It also has higher data rates at comparable distances

My Dreams
I grew up in a poor neighbourhood. The town my parents decided to raise my brothers and I wasn t a
place where you had the means to pursue your dreams. My parents were young and naive thinking that
they could raise a family at such a young age. Although we had a place to sleep and food to eat, we
were barely getting by. Coming home every day from selling snacks in front of the local school, my
brothers and I were greeted with my mother s smile but we could all tell the twinge of sadness hiding
itself behind her smile. Growing up in a poor neighbourhood, the kids around the block knew each
other very well; we could understand each other because of our situations. In some nights the
neighbourhood kids would gather around the abandoned house just around the corner from where I
lived. We would talk about our dreams of going away to the city and our unrealistic hopes of
becoming a millionaire overnight. We all knew that was impossible, but one can dream. I for the
longest time dreamt of becoming a teacher. When I was younger I knew it would only be a dream, it
would never become a reality. But as I grew up watching children who don t dream, or dismiss their
own desires , I knew I wanted to make something out of myself, to prove those that said I couldn t,
that I could. I wanted to make my dreams a reality. When I voiced these feelings to my family, my
father laughed at me. I sat there at our worn down dinner table and fiddled with my thumbs. Why s
that funny? I can do it,

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Spectroscopy
It has been the main topic of this thesis to establish the link between state of the art theoretical tools
and typical spectroscopies in order to contribute to the understanding of complex many body
compounds. The synergy between theory and experiment was given a special attention. The main
spectroscopy studied theoretically by the works in this thesis is photoemission and its variants. In
particular, we worked out the effects of correlations in many body systems as manifested in
spectroscopic quantities.
In our works [E1] and [E2], the coupling of the electronic degrees of freedom the photoelectron
properties, in particular to the nuclear motion was studied in depth. The novel aspects hereby were

The advantages of the NEGF formalism and the underlying powerful machinery of the MBPT inspired
us to develop the formal NEGF theory of photoemission further with our work [E3]. We elucidated the
connection of the formal concepts of the FPA to the standard MBPT, allowing for a practical
implementation of the theory. The main advances were achieved by the extension of the theoretical
description of DPE, which we advocate as a very useful sensor for the many facets of correlations in
many body systems. The effective electron electron interaction in more complex systems comprises,
besides the Coulomb repulsion, fluctuation mediated effects due to the dynamical environment. As an
important example, we focused on dynamical screening mediated by charge density fluctuations. We
have chosen the buckminster fullerene as a concrete system for its pronounced plasmon resonances
and generally rich physics. In our work [E4] we rigorously categorised the collective modes, based on
full fledged ab initio calculations, with the help of the NMF. The obtained model for DD response
function whose accuracy is corroborated by comparing to EELS data was then employed to
characterise the dynamically screened interaction in the C60 molecule. With these tools at hand, we
were able to elucidate the role of electronic correlations mediated by the density oscillations in DPE in
our joint theoretical and experimental work [E5]. The distinct feature of the experiment the significant
narrowing of the coincidence spectrum is in agreement with our ab initio description and so endorses
the plasmon assisted DPE due to as a novel aspect of releasing two correlated electrons from complex

Trade Protectionism Is A Policy That Restricts The Imports...
Trade protectionism is a policy that restricts the imports of goods. The purpose of protectionism is to
protect domestic industries from imports , the products coming into the country , increase exports
,products coming out the country ,and improve the countries economy . One of the most effective
method of protectionism is the tariff. The tariff is a form of taxation on imports ,it increase the price of
imports and is taken in the receiving country, for example if the goods coming by the sea , the tariff
will be taken in the port on the country . Other forms of protectionist include five major non tariff
barriers (NTBs) such as quotas, subsidies , currency control , administrative regulation and voluntary
export restrains. Quotas is a trade restriction that limits and regulate the number and value of imported
goods in specific period of time. For example strawberries, during the winter season we don t see as
much of them in the market, however if you happen to find some the value of the produce
significantly increased. Another NTB is subsidies, the government provides money to new industries
to become competitive in the global market. This include depreciation allowance , cash grants , and
tax holidays (p.110) to help reduce cost and improve their position. For instance if a company is too
small and is unable to to compete int the global market , the government would offer them financial
aid for them to get back in business. Currency control is used to limit

Insects Pollination
Insects are some of the most important creatures in our world. They play a very large role in many
tasks that are vital to human surviva,l like pollinating and effective decomposing. Insects have
impacted science, environment, human development, and food supply in a variety of ways. Insect
pollination is one of the primary beneficial functions of insects on human development. Insect
pollination as we all know, is the process that enables reproduction and fertilization by the transfer of
pollen performed by insects. Insects are some of the oldest pollinators of plants. Pollinating insects
date back to 140 million years ago. Since then, due to how effective insect pollinators are, these

Yet many of these diseases affect man s economy profoundly by spreading disease not only among
man, but also among his livestock. There are also the groups of diseases known as arthropod borne
zoonosis, which are primarily diseases of animals transmitted to man by arthropods. For
understanding the role of insects in spreading disease, knowledge of the biology of the insects, as well
as the biology of the pathogens they transmit, is essential. Along with causing plagues throughout the
world, insects have played a major role in wars. Diseases transmitted to soldiers from insects have had
enormous effects on warfare in our history. For instance, during the Vietnam War there were a larger
number of casualties due to insect transmitted diseases than deaths due to the fighting of war. In cases
where such losses of men and resources are one sided, the actions of insects have determined the
outcome of entire wars and thus have altered the course of history. Studying insects has played an
important role in the development and understanding of biology. Insect s genetics, ecology, and
mainly their life cycles have contributed a lot to biology. A man name Antoni van Leeuwehoek, a

The Key Engine Of Economic And Social Progress Essay
The Software is used in every detail of social life and is becoming the key engine of economic and
social progress which affects social and economic development. Nowadays, our live relies more and
more on the correct execution of software, whether a software is on our equipment (cell phones,
engine injection, etc.), in the business we undertake each day (credit or debit card purchases, fund
transfer, internet usage, electronic mail, etc.), or even those that are hidden from view (back office
software for transaction processing), the software simplifies our daily lives, so when it goes askew, it
affects our lives.
On January 1st, 2010, millions of Germans cannot use their credit cards properly, where no early
warning sign informed them, and they found themselves, the day after New York celebrations, they
cannot buy anything from retail shops or withdraw cash from ATMs. There were some people who
took the holiday period to go abroad; they surveyed more than others where they did not even have
probability to go the bank to withdraw cash (Homès 2013). During its first week of commercial
operation on the Paris to New York route, on 20th of November, 2009, the Airbus A380 was forced to
return to New York during because the failure of the software which is the autopilot function of the

A Presentation On The Killing Of Children Essay
Today people cultural belief varies in various part of the world. This presentation will focus on the
killing of children in Angola. There many factors that have contributed to many children being
accused, abused and killed due to witchcraft. Riedel et al., (2012) quotes that
Many of the thousands of street children across Angola are victims of this trend( Billion,2001). This is
something New to us is African culture it is usually the older people who are accused of practicing
Witchcraft. Now we re even seeing cases popping up involving babies.
The problem
Over the years Angolan s have suffered from civil war this as now resulted to political, economic,
poor policies, new trends and other( Billion,2001).In Angola it is a tradition that if witchcraft is
practice by either adult or children they should be put to death, abandoned or cast out of the village.
However many of this supercilious belief were generate due to lack of knowledge or understanding
about certain issues. Many these cases were featured on BBC 1 documentary in 2005. For instance, A
child with ADHD might be perceive as possessed in Angola while in the Uk the child will be
medically label as ADHD.
According to Carhn(2006) There is a clear difference between how third word countries perceive
certain diagnoses and how high income country perceive diagnoses. In Angola, strange behaviour or
poor behaviour might be perceive as witchcraft. Thus, may lead to children been abandoned by their

Great Art Will Be A Transparent Reflection Of Society
Great art will always be a transparent reflection of the society in which it was produced. The greatest
artists are able to blend cultures and practices into a single work, creating an aesthetic dialogue that
challenges viewers to look at the piece with multiple perspectives and creates the opportunity for
continuous discovery upon subsequent visits. On the first floor of the new Broad Museum, in
Downtown Los Angeles, there is a piece of art executed by the prolific Japanese artist, Takashi
Murakami, which does just this. In a room that is solely dedicated to the work of Murakami, there is a
piece that seems to stand out more than the rest.

Through the use of his famous superflat technique , Murakami removes all texture and physical depth
from the painting creating a body of work that feels seamlessly absent of human involvement. There is
no physical trace of texture or brush stroke, the paint has the appearance of being printed onto the
canvas. Additionally, through this technique, Murakami is able to compress characteristics of digital
design, high and low arts, pop culture, and historical culture all into one piece. As one begins to
analyze what is taking place on the canvas, this becomes more evident.
As one walks around the first floor gallery and gazes at this work by Murakami which spans two walls
wrapping from one wall, through the corner, to the next wall one will see images of anime, skulls,
fish, boats, geishas and more. The entire stretch of the nearly eighty two foot long canvas seems to be
awash in the enormous waves of a tsunami. These waves and the rest of the characters on the canvas
are composed of a selection of radiant acrylics, which fill the rendered pictures on the canvas with a
psychedelic palette of colors. Within each wave, various historical references can found. Most notably,
a color pattern alluding to Katsushika Kokusai s famous painting, The Great Wave off Kanagawa, is

The Major Changes In Defence at Carisbrooke Castle Essay
The Major Changes In Defence at Carisbrooke Castle
The three periods of development I will cover in this piece of coursework are the Norman Period, the
Medieval Period and the Elizabethan Period.
Each period had many different updates installed due to new threats and advances in technology.
Norman Period 1070 1130:
The castle began its existence as a Saxon burgh, which was discovered by William Fitzosbern, owner
of the Isle of Wight, which was given to him by King William 1st. Fitzosbern proceeded to convert the
partly existing burgh into a wooden motte and bailey castle by firstly constructing a campaign fort in

Brattices (small wooden sheds) were also attached to wall by small jutting stones; these could be built
quickly and were effective for defence. The holds for the brattices can still be seen today. The walls
were filled with rubble beneath the initial layer to absorb the impact from cannon fire and stop the
wall from crumbling. Crenulations on the top of the curtain walls had wooden flaps to allow archers to
shoot from quickly and not get hit by enemy fire. We saw evidence of this on the
Carisbrooke Castle fieldtrip, where there were small notches in the stone for the flap hinges.
The main gatehouse and drawbridge, with two square towers on either side, was built in 1136 too.
Between the two sturdy gates and portcullises was the murder zone , which allowed defenders to pour
hot oil and sand etc over invaders as they tried to enter. Later developments to the gatehouse at around
1378 included the square towers being changed to circular drum towers and crossbow loopholes being
added because of the aforementioned device being invented. Another major development around this
period was the barbican. The barbican ensured that to get close to the gatehouse, invading troops
would have to walk around the barbican first exposing their sides to fire from the drum towers.

Fur is Dead
Taking a look into a once strong industry, shocking facts are revealed. The fur industry brings in an
average of $1.5 billion in sales each year. Furs were considered a beautiful and feminine version of
clothing by many women, until the public became aware of the horrors that accompany the industry.
Activists have been a voice for animals tortured for their fur, making the public aware, and
diminishing the old view of fur. Approximately 3.5 million fur bearing animals are killed each year by
trappers, and another 2.7 million are raised on fur farms . (1)

Nilsson exposes the inhumane trap in Facts About Furs :
When an animal steps on the leghold trap spring, the trap s jaws slam down on the animal s limb. Dr.
Robert E. Cape explains that if the trap is properly anchored, the captured animal will struggle to get
loose, mutilating the foot and causing deep, painful lacerations. Or the animal will attempt escape by
chewing or twisting off the trapped extremity. Ten to 12 hours after being captured, the animal is still
in pain. After a prolonged time, he explains, will suffer from exhaustion, since they expend such a
great amount of energy in attempting to escape. With exhaustion, the animal suffers from exposure,
frostbite, shock, and eventually death.(4)
Not all animals suffer that long, some suffer for even longer periods, and face further torture. When
the trappers return (often days later) they, like the fur farms, use the cheapest methods possible to kill
the animals, and whatever method that won t damage the fur. The lucky few get shot, but the cheaper
more physical methods of death are most commonly used. Animals are beaten, stomped to death, or

Branson Reeve s Experiments
At the age of 15 months, Branson Reeve began studying anything and everything within his
environment. He started to realize that he could experiment with different objects making them do
various tasks. For example, one of his favorite experiments to conduct was in the bath tub with his
toys. He adored pushing his bath toys down into various depths and joyfully watched how high they
would pop back up above the surface. He found this quite interesting and intriguing. This act of
experimentation with objects could have easily been picked up from watching the people in his
environment interact with objects. This small act of curiosity is making Branson Reeve want to
discover more and more. He is extremely intrigued by what he can accomplish or

The Negative Effects Of Smoking In High School Students
As a high school student I felt as though the positive outcomes would overpower the negatives, which
I soon realized would not be the case. The peer pressure I felt from my friends who smoked also added
to the reasoning behind my choice to try smoking during the initial stage of my high school
experience. Research suggests that children who smoke cause their non smoking peers to take up the
habit through strategies such as coercion, teasing, bullying and rejection from a desired group
(Michell and West, 1996). Being a student in my first year of high school I felt as though I didn t
know anyone s true intentions. I felt pressure from older students who were talking to me and trying to
influence me into smoking with them. Once I was a bit older I did a self evaluation to understand that
this decision that I was making was not because I truly wanted to, or felt the need to do, but rather the
influence of my classmates and peers from the older grades. I felt as though my peers from the older
grades needed to see me do this in order to be accepted into their social group. After coming to the
conclusion that I would stop smoking and follow my own moral directions, one could argue I was then
following categorical imperatives. Categorical imperatives is most simply understood as a way of
evaluating motives for actions (Henry, 2011). I felt as though I had to follow my own personal moral
compass as opposed to the morals set by my peers. Philosopher Immanuel Kant

Marvin Gaye s Song Ain T No Mountain High Enough
There are so many influential songs that I can relate to. Marvin Gaye, Ain t No Mountain High
Enough , wrote one that stands out. This classic song has lyrics that have withstood time. Many times,
in rigorous courses throughout high school and Nova Southeastern University I sang out this song,
pushing myself forward realizing the mountain in front of me is actually attainable. A person who is
staunch and faithful can conquer any mountain and their desired endeavors. Picking an influential
movie is also quite arduous. However, I can relate to West Side Story. My family is from N.Y.C. and I
can watch this musical over and over again. Tony, a leader of the White gang called the Jets falls in

On the top of my list of objects to bring the Bible would be number one. Being able to read the Bible
daily would give me strength, wisdom and guidance. I normally attend Sunday church services and
without attending a service the Bible would inspire me to keep the faith on a deserted island. There are
so many verses in the Old and New Testament that would embolden and excite me. Here is a prime
example in the Book of Isaiah 41:10 So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am
your God. I will strengthen you and help you Until I would be rescued I would also need a knife. This
weapon would allow me to shield myself and also be used as a means of gathering food. While a gun
would soon run out of ammunition, a knife can be recycled countless times for protection and for
hunting or fishing. Over the last few years I have hiked the Appalachian Trail and have become a
knowledgeable camper and hunter. These life occurrences certainly would contribute to a prolonged
stay on a deserted island. Lastly, I would want a first aid medicine kit. Although we take for granted
our health it is imperative to have a kit with band aids, bug spray, Neosporin and other simple
medications. Cuts, allergies and infections will occur and a simple first aid kit would be particularly
significant, because sometimes insignificant lacerations can quickly escalate to large and dangerous

Katrina And Hurricane Katrina Similarities
It has been over a decade that we witnessed the catastrophe that wreaked havoc on New Orleans. That
infamous catastrophe is popularly known as Hurricane Katrina. However, in recent news it appears
that we have another disastrous hurricane within our midst. Hurricane Harvey has since devastated the
state of Texas, and more specifically the large city of Houston. This article helps to detail the
comparisons between the two hurricanes. Although Hurricane Harvey is still in effect, there are many
similarities and differences that we can already see between it and Hurricane Katrina. One main
difference is the cities population sizes; while New Orleans had an estimated 455,000 people, Houston
has a population of two million people. The city of New Orleans also resided below sea level. The
precautions to hurricanes were also very unique. For New Orleans there was an issued mandatory
evacuation a day before the storm made landfall. Although, there was an evacuation about 100,00
people remained stuck in the city. However, for Houston there was no evacuation issued, civilians
were simply encouraged to take shelter. A few days after Harvey made landfall, people were then
urged to leave the area. One similarity is that both of the cities had systems to keep from possible
flooding. New Orleans had a system of levee walls and Houston had a system of waterways and
bayous. When Hurricane Katrina made landfall near the Louisiana and Mississippi border, it was

The importance of websites in environment, which costumers face with invisible dealers, invisible
processes, invisible controls and intangible nature of e business relations, is undeniable; hence, proper
design of websites has been very important.
Internet customers can easily compare the services of websites. As a result, for companies to keep
their customers and build loyalty, they must provide high quality online services. On the other hand, if
users, in order to use a website more effectively, are not able to understand the good quality and
features that are needed, and do not know what features a good website must have for it to provide
them access to information, they consider its usage as a waste of time and thus will stop using it.
Assess quality of websites, considering its role in attracting customers and building loyalty is very
important for activists in the field of e commerce. Many of the research in this area are concentrated
on components, graphic design and usability of the website that clients understand than the evaluation
of the quality which has higher importance than the technical aspects. Many studies show that if
perceived quality of a company s website is more, the company gets to a higher level of performance
So in this study a webqual model has been introduced in order to evaluate and study the quality of the
websites.

of Café de Coral, the causes of the customer complaint, which elements of procedural and personal

Firstly, around ten cockroaches run outside from the hot pot. This cause is reflected this Cafe de Coral
restaurant in North Point is very dirty. Secondly, the manager did not apologize to Miss Tse. The
manager did not respect the customer obviously and Miss Tse so angry about that.
In this case, there are some elements of procedural sides of customer service were not fulfilled by the
concerned service provider.
The element of timeliness was not fulfilled. Miss Tse waited twenty minutes for the meal, also not
many costumers in this restaurant. The service of this restaurant cannot satisfy the customer
expectation. In quick service restaurant, efficient service is essential. Unfortunately, this fast food
restaurant cannot provide a quick service to Miss Tse. There is no reason that this restaurant provide
the food slowly. Because the staffs were not busy in that time so they should provide the food in
standard time.
The element of anticipation was not fulfilled. Miss Tse felt disgusted after many cockroaches run
outside from the hot pot. The manager should apologize to Miss Tse but he or she did not say that. The
manager did not be one step ahead of Miss Tse s needs because Miss Tse expects that the manager

Impact Of The World Trade Organization ( Wto ) On The...
Few environmentalists have positive things to say on the impact of the World Trade Organization
(WTO) on the environment. WTO legal obligations are frequently cited as the most significant
impediment to a range of environmental initiatives, including notably meaningful international
coordination to combat climate change, particularly through carbon tax initiatives, and imposition of
electronic waste disposal export bans. In this vein, adverse findings of WTO dispute panels on
environmental conservation measures tend to attract the ire of international civil society. The tensions
between liberal trade and environmental protection can be traced back to the days of the General
Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT) of 1947, which pre dated the WTO. Under the GATT 1947,
trade and environment disputes tended to be resolved through diplomatic channels. The WTO
Agreements were intended to provide a more predictable and legalistic means by which to resolve
such disputes, in exchange for deeper commitments on domestic regulation, a domain historically
deemed off limits to international disciplines. Two of these agreements in particular, the Agreement on
Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT Agreement) and the Agreement on Sanitary and Phytosanitary
Measures (SPS Agreement), introduced binding disciplines with serious implications for domestic
environmental decision making, a subset of domestic regulation. The expectation was that the
depolitization of WTO disputes would afford more

Minors And The Medical Decision Making
Minors rights in medical decision making As we grow up, we hear it time and time again... When you
re an adult you can do whatever you want. We heard it when were driving our parents crazy about
wanting to grow up just a little too fast. We are taught that in the eye of the law, we must wait until we
hit our eighteenth birthday to do things like play the lottery, to move out, to vote, or to go to a club.
We must be nineteen to buy cigarettes, 21 to drink alcohol, 25 to rent a car, but when we thing aout it
more deeply and zoom in closer on the criminal justice system we see minors differently. In fact,
According to legal experts the youngest person in modern U.S. history to be charged as an adult with
first degree murder was only 11 yeas old at the time he was sentenced
(http://www.loyno.edu/~wagues/article19.html). That same eleven year old that will not get out of
prison until he is a grown man, if at all, would not be able to consent to non emergency medical care.
A general practitioner in a non emergency situation could not treat him without a parent or guardian
giving the go ahead. . It is important to first identify what rights that minors do have when it comes to
their medical decisions and care. In every state, statutes regarding minor s permission to consent for
medical care depends on the child s status, or on the service that they are seeking. Status in which a
minor under the age of 18 can consent to medical care include cases in which a minor may be

Social Exchange Theory And Social Exchange Theory
Mrs. Rose, an 85 year old Dominican woman, grew up in an urban town in South Carolina. She is the
youngest of two sisters and one brother. Rose stated her life growing up was stressful after her parents
separated. Also, she said her mother had to work two jobs so that she could provide for their family.
Due to the fact of limited income with many mouths to feed, Rose s older siblings moved to their
grandparent s house. She further stated once her siblings moved, there was not a relationship between
the siblings, and her mother became abusive. Consequently, the stress of having to work two jobs
coupled with Rose s mother experiencing abuse as a child kept the cycle of violence to continue. Rose
stated her mother homeschooled her brother for the reason that the bruises left would have quickly
alerted the department of family and children services. Moreover, Rose indicated her mother dropped
out of middle school, and the education that her mother taught was not beneficial. As Rose developed,
she noted discrimination started happening. Although she tried to disregard the racism, she stated the
environment affected her ability to love.
Social Exchange Theory
According to Thibauilt and Kelley (1959), people weigh their costs and benefits of their relationship
to determine satisfaction and commitment. Essentially meaning people form relationships in which the
incentive is more significant than the action. George Homans summarizes his proposition into three
sections: (1) rewards

The Conscience of Dorian Gray in Oscar Wilde s The Picture of Dorian Gray
Much of the criticism regarding The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde has dealt with Dorian
Gray s relation to his own portrait (Raby 392). While some may argue that the portrait represents a
reflection of Dorian Gray s character, this is only a superficial analysis of the novel and Dorian s
character. While Dorian Gray s true character never changes, it is his own perception of his character
(his conscience) that is reflected in the changing face of his portrait. In essence Dorian s picture
becomes a mirror through which the true Dorian judges his own metamorphasis as the superficial Lord

Also at this initial stage of the novel, Dorian makes his fateful wish for eternal youth, immediately
after recogniz[ing] himself for the first time at the impetus of Lord Henry (24). This desire to remain
youthful does indeed come true for Dorian; his true youthful character remains with him throughout
the novel, though he often tries to repress and extinguish it.
As a whole, this opening confrontation between Lord Henry and Dorian s initial character proves
several points: one, Dorian does have his own passions and soul before meeting Lord Henry, and two,
Lord Henry s teachings initially echo Dorian s own feelings, which are what draw him to Lord Henry
over the two dimensional Basil Hallward. Later, ironically, it is Lord Henry s own teachings which
leads to Dorian s struggle to repress his true self and ultimately bring about his downfall.
The first major event of the novel is Dorian s relationship with Sybil Vane, as it marks Dorian s first
practical experience with Lord Henry s instruction. Although Dorian superficially embraces and
attempts to follow the Hedonistic ideals,

Chemistry of LSD and Route of Access
Classification
Pharmacologically, the commonly abused hallucinogenic substances may be divided into two major
groups. The indolealkylamines, including d lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD), psilocybin, and
dimethyltryptamine (DMT) bear a structural resemblance to the neurotransmitter 5 hydroxytryptamine
(serotonin). The phenylethylamines, including mescaline and the phenylisopropylamines such as 2, 5
dimethoxy 4 methylamphetamine
(DOM, STP ), are structurally related to dopamine, norepinephrine, and the amphetamines (Gelenberg,
Bassuk,
Schoonover 1991).

The plasma half life of LSD is 2 to 3 hrs. It is metabolized into nonhallucinogenic substances,
primarily by conjugation of the liver (Gelenberg, Bassuk, Schoonover 1991). Within the brain, the
highest levels of LSD are in the visual system, especially within a part called the lateral geniculate
nucleus, or LGN. LSD decreases the response of the LGN, which acts a visual relay center. The LGN
receives nerve impulses from the retina and sends them to the occipital cortex of the brain, an area
also known as the visual cortex. LSD acts to decrease the responsiveness of the LGN to signals from
the retina. How this effects the production of visual hallucinations is unclear
LSD is also concentrated highly in parts of the limbic system.
The limbic system is dedicated to regulating emotion, aggression, docility, and memory.
Also, LSD concentrates in areas of the reticular formation. The reticular formation mediates the level
of arousal and alertness in the brain. It begins in the medulla, and runs up through the brain stem into
the forebrain. The textbook authors call it the volume dial of consciousness (Strang, 2004).
Because of its extreme potency, only minuscule amounts can be detected in urine. Thus, conventional
urine screening tests are inadequate to detect LSD. When the use of LSD is suspected, urine is

  • 2. Child Custody Interests Child custody arrangements have evolved over the years from a time when children were once seen as property of the father. This began to change as society became more focused on the development of children, understanding the formative years of childhood evolved into adulthood. Mothers have historically been granted custody in the majority of custody cases as determined in nineteenth century by the tender year s doctrine. Once the tender years doctrine had been determined to be in violation of the fourteenth amendment the primary caretaker rule was developed based on who was the primary caretaker prior to the divorce. With the increase in divorce rates and the legislation of Uniform Marriage and Divorce Act of 1976 set the standard for the Best Interests of the Child. The best interest of the child concept moved away from parental rights, focusing on several factors such as relationships between parent and child, school and home adjustments, mental and physical wellbeing of parents, and wishes of both parents. ... This brought about a change due to the roles men took as wage earners and women became the nurturer. Despite some vagueness of the Best Interests of the Child concept, it has been beneficial in respecting parents rights who may have be living in nontraditional parenting arrangements, are homosexual or have severe physical disabilities. Societal changes influenced legal custodial arrangements to increase greater contact between fathers and their children to decrease the negative psychological effects of divorce, such as feeling abandoned due to inadequate time with the noncustodial parent ... Another critic also said that although Leonardo worked on the Mona Lisa over a number of years in a number of different cities, none of his business or household records contain any mention of a model who might have sat for the portrait. In an article in the January issue of Arts and Antiques, Schwartz describes how her conclusions tie together a number of seemingly unrelated anomalies in the painting, its shadowy quality, the unusual dress, the lack of jewelry, the awkward pose and the split pair of unrelated landscapes on either side of the figure. She points out that Leonardo s delight in riddles caused him to plant clues in all his paintings and that the Mona Lisa was no exception. When these clues are taken together with da Vinci s known homosexuality and life style, a picture emerges of the great painter creating a disguised self portrait in women s clothes. As Schwartz puts it, That famous smile, so tantalizing for so many centuries is the mirrored smile of da Vinci himself. Another says he haven t seen the big deal of the painting. He quoted It s just a portrait of a not particularly interesting woman against a dark and mountainous backdrop. Undoubtedly highly proficient technically, it is, to my eye, an unemotional and unmoving piece of art. Self Portrait (1515) The identification of the drawing as a self portrait was made in the 19th century, based on the similarity

Capital Punishment and Methods of Execution Capital Punishment Thirty two out of the fifty states in the United States of America accommodate to the death sentence, with Virginia being the one of the largest contributors following that of Texas. In 1976, the death sentence was reinstated by the Supreme Court; this produced the outcome of Texas holding the largest number of executions within all the states. Every year, people are brutally killed by inhumane methods of death. Who s to say whether another person has the right to live or not? By taking the life of another, is to play God. In spite of the fact that some find it to be unethical taking another man s life, about 70% of the public agree with the continuation of the death penalty. Methods of execution include lethal injection; being the first option for most, electrocution, gas chamber, hanging, and lastly by firing squad; which is only legal in two states, Oklahoma and Utah; however is it only used if lethal injection is deemed unconstitutional. Many Countries support this ideal; however, there are those who greatly oppose of it. According to the writers on Religioustolerance.org, Some countries, such as Italy, routinely refuse to extradite accused murderers to the US because of the possibility that they might be executed. Canada originally refused to extradite suspected mass murderer Charles Ng to California for a trial. The government ruling was later overturned by Canada s Supreme Court. Like Canada, the United States should consider abolishing the death ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Ned Kelly, A Hero Or A Villain Ned Kelly was certainly a villain rather a hero Ned Kelly was certainly a villain due to his violent and bloodthirsty behavior throughout his life. Even as a child, Ned was involved in trouble and developed an early life of crime. To contribute to the crimes, Ned Kelly is to blame for infamous attack at Stringybark Creek. Finally Kelly was the gang leader in the merciless shootout of the Glenrowan Siege. Kelly s trouble with the law quickly escalated through indecent behaviour, assault and stock theft to police killer. Ned Kelly is definitely a villain because of his development of an early endless life of crime. Kelly did not receive a normal childhood and was instead meddling with the law. The Kelly s were often in trouble with the police over horse and cattle theft. At the age of fourteen in 1869, Kelly was arrested and served seven weeks in jail for the alleged assault of Ah Fook, a Chinese pig farmer. At such a young age, Ned Kelly was already known for his crimes and explains why he is undeniably a villain. Furthermore, as Kelly grew older his crimes started to worsen. Again in 1869, Ned was alleged of being assistant to thief turned bushranger Harry Power and was charged for helping out during some robberies. Due to these interactions with people doing crime, Kelly was further drawn into the world of crime. Kelly was again jailed in 1870 for three years after assaulting a hawker (salesperson) and also being in possession of a stolen horse. Ned Kelly s criminal actions didn t end there. On the 15th of April, 1878, Kelly shot at Constable Alexander Fitzpatrick in the wrist after he became too friendly with his sister Kate. Kelly s crime rate was endless.Later the Kelly gang led by their leader Ned Kelly, committed some major robberies in the National Bank branches at Euroa and Jerilderie. At Jerilderie, the gang even held police and civilians hostage while stealing all the money from the bank s vaults. Ned Kelly s early life was corrupted in crime with theft and assault and added towards his increase in villainy. Ned Kelly was certainly a villain rather than a hero due to his barbaric actions at Stringybark Creek. Stringybark Creek was the new hiding point for the Kelly gang. On the 26th of October ... • 8. Suggestions For Apsi From Billie Jean Clemens Suggestions for APSI from Billie Jean Clemens 1. A misunderstanding still exists as to the approach of the redesign. What does it mean to teach history in the digital age where students have access to facts at the swipe of a finger? Teachers need to understand that the redesign represents a paradigm shift in the way history is taught, no longer does one need to cover it all at breakneck speed and hope something sticks. However, how does one teach a conceptual approach to history that emphasizes the application of historical thinking skills while still holding students accountable for a core of knowledge? The workshops, through collaborative conversations and the development of quality lesson plans, need to educate teachers as to what this really looks like in the classroom. 2. Above all, the workshops need to emphasize the crucial role of historical thinking skills; how one would teach those skills; AND, how those skills are assessed on the test. While the new Curriculum Framework has done a nice job of explaining these skills, teachers need explicit instruction on how the skills are assessed on the exam. For example, in the CF, neither the description nor the proficient expectations explain that in a periodization essay students must explain how the period was different AND similar to the developments that preceded and/or followed. Even though this is clearly stated on the rubrics for the exam, a teacher new to the course would have to realize that both ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Wireless Technologies Wireless Technologies Introduction As wireless technology has begun to mature, the demand for wireless products has increased as new applications for the technology are realized. One application for wireless technology at the U.S. Naval Academy is to use the wireless capability to enhance classroom instruction. Currently the Electrical Engineering and Physics Departments have wireless access points and wireless laptops/desktops available for classroom instruction. The purpose of this report is to provide the technical research necessary to aid decision makers in determining which wireless technologies the Naval Academy should invest. Background In a wireless network, computers communicate with the network through a radio ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Each access point can practically service between 32 to 64 users, depending upon manufacturer. The bandwidth will be shared by all users. The number of radio channels associated with each technology will vary by technology and product manufacturer. Multiple channels allows for multiple access points to be collocated in order to provide access for a larger number of users. Current USNA Uses The Electrical Engineering Department currently uses the Dell suite with a wireless access point and 24 wireless laptops. They use the wireless network for in class projects where the use of either simulation (OPNET) or design software (PSPICE) is being taught and used. The Physics department is using a LinkSys 802.11b wireless access point and LinkSys wireless NIC cards with desktop computers. Their primary use is for internet access. Recommendation The best technology system for the Naval Academy would be the 802.11a standard. It has 54 Mbps throughput capability as well as adequate range, sufficient for classroom use. Since the 54 Mbps is shared amongst all users, it would allow, at a minimum, 2 Mbps for each user in a class of 20 midshipmen operating simultaneously. It also has higher data rates at comparable distances ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. My Dreams I grew up in a poor neighbourhood. The town my parents decided to raise my brothers and I wasn t a place where you had the means to pursue your dreams. My parents were young and naive thinking that they could raise a family at such a young age. Although we had a place to sleep and food to eat, we were barely getting by. Coming home every day from selling snacks in front of the local school, my brothers and I were greeted with my mother s smile but we could all tell the twinge of sadness hiding itself behind her smile. Growing up in a poor neighbourhood, the kids around the block knew each other very well; we could understand each other because of our situations. In some nights the neighbourhood kids would gather around the abandoned house just around the corner from where I lived. We would talk about our dreams of going away to the city and our unrealistic hopes of becoming a millionaire overnight. We all knew that was impossible, but one can dream. I for the longest time dreamt of becoming a teacher. When I was younger I knew it would only be a dream, it would never become a reality. But as I grew up watching children who don t dream, or dismiss their own desires , I knew I wanted to make something out of myself, to prove those that said I couldn t, that I could. I wanted to make my dreams a reality. When I voiced these feelings to my family, my father laughed at me. I sat there at our worn down dinner table and fiddled with my thumbs. Why s that funny? I can do it, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Advantages And Disadvantages Of Spectroscopy It has been the main topic of this thesis to establish the link between state of the art theoretical tools and typical spectroscopies in order to contribute to the understanding of complex many body compounds. The synergy between theory and experiment was given a special attention. The main spectroscopy studied theoretically by the works in this thesis is photoemission and its variants. In particular, we worked out the effects of correlations in many body systems as manifested in spectroscopic quantities. In our works [E1] and [E2], the coupling of the electronic degrees of freedom the photoelectron properties, in particular to the nuclear motion was studied in depth. The novel aspects hereby were how to extract the information of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The advantages of the NEGF formalism and the underlying powerful machinery of the MBPT inspired us to develop the formal NEGF theory of photoemission further with our work [E3]. We elucidated the connection of the formal concepts of the FPA to the standard MBPT, allowing for a practical implementation of the theory. The main advances were achieved by the extension of the theoretical description of DPE, which we advocate as a very useful sensor for the many facets of correlations in many body systems. The effective electron electron interaction in more complex systems comprises, besides the Coulomb repulsion, fluctuation mediated effects due to the dynamical environment. As an important example, we focused on dynamical screening mediated by charge density fluctuations. We have chosen the buckminster fullerene as a concrete system for its pronounced plasmon resonances and generally rich physics. In our work [E4] we rigorously categorised the collective modes, based on full fledged ab initio calculations, with the help of the NMF. The obtained model for DD response function whose accuracy is corroborated by comparing to EELS data was then employed to characterise the dynamically screened interaction in the C60 molecule. With these tools at hand, we were able to elucidate the role of electronic correlations mediated by the density oscillations in DPE in our joint theoretical and experimental work [E5]. The distinct feature of the experiment the significant narrowing of the coincidence spectrum is in agreement with our ab initio description and so endorses the plasmon assisted DPE due to as a novel aspect of releasing two correlated electrons from complex ... • 12. Trade Protectionism Is A Policy That Restricts The Imports... Trade protectionism is a policy that restricts the imports of goods. The purpose of protectionism is to protect domestic industries from imports , the products coming into the country , increase exports ,products coming out the country ,and improve the countries economy . One of the most effective method of protectionism is the tariff. The tariff is a form of taxation on imports ,it increase the price of imports and is taken in the receiving country, for example if the goods coming by the sea , the tariff will be taken in the port on the country . Other forms of protectionist include five major non tariff barriers (NTBs) such as quotas, subsidies , currency control , administrative regulation and voluntary export restrains. Quotas is a trade restriction that limits and regulate the number and value of imported goods in specific period of time. For example strawberries, during the winter season we don t see as much of them in the market, however if you happen to find some the value of the produce significantly increased. Another NTB is subsidies, the government provides money to new industries to become competitive in the global market. This include depreciation allowance , cash grants , and tax holidays (p.110) to help reduce cost and improve their position. For instance if a company is too small and is unable to to compete int the global market , the government would offer them financial aid for them to get back in business. They play a very large role in many tasks that are vital to human surviva,l like pollinating and effective decomposing. Insects have impacted science, environment, human development, and food supply in a variety of ways. Insect pollination is one of the primary beneficial functions of insects on human development. Insect pollination as we all know, is the process that enables reproduction and fertilization by the transfer of pollen performed by insects. Insects are some of the oldest pollinators of plants. Pollinating insects date back to 140 million years ago. Since then, due to how effective insect pollinators are, these flowering plants have become the major group of ... There are also the groups of diseases known as arthropod borne zoonosis, which are primarily diseases of animals transmitted to man by arthropods. For understanding the role of insects in spreading disease, knowledge of the biology of the insects, as well as the biology of the pathogens they transmit, is essential. Along with causing plagues throughout the world, insects have played a major role in wars. Diseases transmitted to soldiers from insects have had enormous effects on warfare in our history. For instance, during the Vietnam War there were a larger number of casualties due to insect transmitted diseases than deaths due to the fighting of war. In cases where such losses of men and resources are one sided, the actions of insects have determined the outcome of entire wars and thus have altered the course of history. Studying insects has played an important role in the development and understanding of biology. Insect s genetics, ecology, and mainly their life cycles have contributed a lot to biology. • 14. The Key Engine Of Economic And Social Progress Essay The Software is used in every detail of social life and is becoming the key engine of economic and social progress which affects social and economic development. Nowadays, our live relies more and more on the correct execution of software, whether a software is on our equipment (cell phones, engine injection, etc.), in the business we undertake each day (credit or debit card purchases, fund transfer, internet usage, electronic mail, etc.), or even those that are hidden from view (back office software for transaction processing), the software simplifies our daily lives, so when it goes askew, it affects our lives. On January 1st, 2010, millions of Germans cannot use their credit cards properly, where no early warning sign informed them, and they found themselves, the day after New York celebrations, they cannot buy anything from retail shops or withdraw cash from ATMs. There were some people who took the holiday period to go abroad; they surveyed more than others where they did not even have probability to go the bank to withdraw cash (Homès 2013). During its first week of commercial operation on the Paris to New York route, on 20th of November, 2009, the Airbus A380 was forced to return to New York during because the failure of the software which is the autopilot function of the Airbus A380. The greatest artists are able to blend cultures and practices into a single work, creating an aesthetic dialogue that challenges viewers to look at the piece with multiple perspectives and creates the opportunity for continuous discovery upon subsequent visits. On the first floor of the new Broad Museum, in Downtown Los Angeles, there is a piece of art executed by the prolific Japanese artist, Takashi Murakami, which does just this. Through the use of his famous superflat technique , Murakami removes all texture and physical depth from the painting creating a body of work that feels seamlessly absent of human involvement. There is no physical trace of texture or brush stroke, the paint has the appearance of being printed onto the canvas. Additionally, through this technique, Murakami is able to compress characteristics of digital design, high and low arts, pop culture, and historical culture all into one piece. As one begins to analyze what is taking place on the canvas, this becomes more evident. As one walks around the first floor gallery and gazes at this work by Murakami which spans two walls wrapping from one wall, through the corner, to the next wall one will see images of anime, skulls, fish, boats, geishas and more. The entire stretch of the nearly eighty two foot long canvas seems to be awash in the enormous waves of a tsunami. These waves and the rest of the characters on the canvas are composed of a selection of radiant acrylics, which fill the rendered pictures on the canvas with a psychedelic palette of colors. Each period had many different updates installed due to new threats and advances in technology. Norman Period 1070 1130: The castle began its existence as a Saxon burgh, which was discovered by William Fitzosbern, owner of the Isle of Wight, which was given to him by King William 1st. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Brattices (small wooden sheds) were also attached to wall by small jutting stones; these could be built quickly and were effective for defence. The holds for the brattices can still be seen today. The walls were filled with rubble beneath the initial layer to absorb the impact from cannon fire and stop the wall from crumbling. Crenulations on the top of the curtain walls had wooden flaps to allow archers to shoot from quickly and not get hit by enemy fire. We saw evidence of this on the Carisbrooke Castle fieldtrip, where there were small notches in the stone for the flap hinges. The main gatehouse and drawbridge, with two square towers on either side, was built in 1136 too. Between the two sturdy gates and portcullises was the murder zone , which allowed defenders to pour hot oil and sand etc over invaders as they tried to enter. Later developments to the gatehouse at around 1378 included the square towers being changed to circular drum towers and crossbow loopholes being added because of the aforementioned device being invented. Another major development around this period was the barbican. The barbican ensured that to get close to the gatehouse, invading troops would have to walk around the barbican first exposing their sides to fire from the drum towers. The peer pressure I felt from my friends who smoked also added to the reasoning behind my choice to try smoking during the initial stage of my high school experience. Research suggests that children who smoke cause their non smoking peers to take up the habit through strategies such as coercion, teasing, bullying and rejection from a desired group (Michell and West, 1996). Being a student in my first year of high school I felt as though I didn t know anyone s true intentions. I felt pressure from older students who were talking to me and trying to influence me into smoking with them. Once I was a bit older I did a self evaluation to understand that this decision that I was making was not because I truly wanted to, or felt the need to do, but rather the influence of my classmates and peers from the older grades. I felt as though my peers from the older grades needed to see me do this in order to be accepted into their social group. After coming to the conclusion that I would stop smoking and follow my own moral directions, one could argue I was then following categorical imperatives. Hurricane Harvey has since devastated the state of Texas, and more specifically the large city of Houston. This article helps to detail the comparisons between the two hurricanes. Although Hurricane Harvey is still in effect, there are many similarities and differences that we can already see between it and Hurricane Katrina. One main difference is the cities population sizes; while New Orleans had an estimated 455,000 people, Houston has a population of two million people. The city of New Orleans also resided below sea level. The precautions to hurricanes were also very unique. For New Orleans there was an issued mandatory evacuation a day before the storm made landfall. Although, there was an evacuation about 100,00 people remained stuck in the city. However, for Houston there was no evacuation issued, civilians were simply encouraged to take shelter. A few days after Harvey made landfall, people were then urged to leave the area. One similarity is that both of the cities had systems to keep from possible flooding. New Orleans had a system of levee walls and Houston had a system of waterways and bayous. WTO legal obligations are frequently cited as the most significant impediment to a range of environmental initiatives, including notably meaningful international coordination to combat climate change, particularly through carbon tax initiatives, and imposition of electronic waste disposal export bans. In this vein, adverse findings of WTO dispute panels on environmental conservation measures tend to attract the ire of international civil society. The tensions between liberal trade and environmental protection can be traced back to the days of the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT) of 1947, which pre dated the WTO. Under the GATT 1947, trade and environment disputes tended to be resolved through diplomatic channels. The WTO Agreements were intended to provide a more predictable and legalistic means by which to resolve such disputes, in exchange for deeper commitments on domestic regulation, a domain historically deemed off limits to international disciplines. Two of these agreements in particular, the Agreement on Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT Agreement) and the Agreement on Sanitary and Phytosanitary Measures (SPS Agreement), introduced binding disciplines with serious implications for domestic environmental decision making, a subset of domestic regulation. Within the brain, the highest levels of LSD are in the visual system, especially within a part called the lateral geniculate nucleus, or LGN. LSD decreases the response of the LGN, which acts a visual relay center. The LGN receives nerve impulses from the retina and sends them to the occipital cortex of the brain, an area also known as the visual cortex. LSD acts to decrease the responsiveness of the LGN to signals from the retina. How this effects the production of visual hallucinations is unclear LSD is also concentrated highly in parts of the limbic system. The limbic system is dedicated to regulating emotion, aggression, docility, and memory. Also, LSD concentrates in areas of the reticular formation. The reticular formation mediates the level of arousal and alertness in the brain. It begins in the medulla, and runs up through the brain stem into the forebrain. The textbook authors call it the volume dial of consciousness (Strang, 2004). Because of its extreme potency, only minuscule amounts can be detected in urine. Thus, conventional urine screening tests are inadequate to detect LSD. When the use of LSD is suspected, urine is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
