Essay about Mac vs Pc
Mac vs. PC: The Everlasting Debate
In the world of computers, the choice of systems can be a complicated one. There are two competitors
out there, PCs and Macs. Everyone has their own opinion on which is better, and there are many die
hard fans in each camp. The truth is, PC s are far more popular, and for good reasons, yet the Mac
system is actually the more durable and useful of the two. Firstly we will consider software
availability. The majority of computer users own PC s, both for work and recreational use. Therefore,
software companies find that it is far more profitable to develop software that is for use on a PC
instead of a Mac. There is such a variety of software written for PC s that is unavailable for Macs that

Today, however, Windows XP has greatly reduced the gap between the two systems. The main
problem with the Mac OS is the fact that applications could be in any of several places, such as the
Dock, the Desktop, or the Applications folder. With Windows XP, all applications can be accessed
from the Start menu, as well as in other ways (Kaufman, 2003). Another area that Macs are ahead of
PC s in is stability. The Mac OS is built on the UNIX operating system, which is by far more stable
that PC s own foundations. This results in fewer crashes with the system. The Mac systems are also
more stable because Apple controls everything that is plugged into the system, and each system is
complete straight out of the box. With PCs, there are more peripherals to plug in, and a wide variety of
different add ons available, increasing the likelihood of device conflicts (Kaufman, 2003). The people
who create Macs have managed to get very far ahead of those who create PC s in design points. The
Mac has been detailed to perfection, and looks sleek and simple. The PC, on the other hand, is
basically a bunch of boxes and things stuck together, far clunkier, and less appealing visually. The
iMac is a very compact machine, and it doesn t have random buttons and things distracting from its
design. The desktop PC, however, is large and clutters up any space without looking anywhere near as
simply elegant as the Mac (Kaufman, 2003)(Apple, 2006). Although

Mrs. Linde as a Foil for Nora in A Doll s House
Random House Webster s dictionary defines a foil as a person or thing that makes another seem better
by contrast. This essay will focus on the use of the foil to contrast another character. The characters of
Nora and Mrs. Linde provide an excellent example of this literary device. Mrs. Linde s aged,
experienced personality is the perfect foil for Nora s childish nature. Mrs. Linde s hard life is used to
contrast the frivolity and sheltered aspects of Nora s life. Nora s optimism and belief in things
improbable is an opposite to the rationality and down to earth mentality of Mrs. Linde. Finally, the
rekindling of the flame between Mrs. Linde and Krogstad is a direct contrast to the ... Show more

Helmer: But Nora
Nora: Oh, please, Torvald darling, do that! I beg you, please. Then I could hang the bills in pretty gilt
paper on the Christmas tree. Wouldn t that be fun? (Ibsen 77 87)
Mrs. Linde is the perfect foil for Nora as can be evidenced with the following excerpt from lines 297
301. Mrs. Linde s self sacrifice for her closest loved ones is atypical of those without the utmost
maturity. Mrs. Linde married a man she did not love for the purpose of security:
Nora: ...is it really true that you weren t in love with your husband? Why did you marry him then?
Mrs. Linde: My mother was still alive, but bedridden and helpless and I had my two younger brothers
to look after. In all conscience, I didn t think I could turn him down.
Evidence of Mrs. Linde s hard life can be seen in the conversation occurring between herself and
Doctor Rank, a friend of the Helmer s. In contrast to Nora s life of little trouble and frivolity, Mrs.
Linde has worn herself out, both mentally and physically:
Mrs. Linde: Yes, I take the stairs very slowly. They re rather hard on me.
Dr. Rank: Uh hm, some touch of internal weakness?
Mrs. Linde: More overexertion, I d say.
Rank: Nothing else? Then you re probably here in town to rest up in a round of

Alpaca Wool Research Paper
What the Warmest Winter Gear is made out of. Anyone who lives in a cold climate has gotten cold in
their winter gear. They ve tried different winter gear made out of different materials, but they always
found themselves too cold or too hot. And are wasting there money on different kinds of winter gear,
and most do not work out. What if they tried wool, synthetic, or alpaca wool, which one keeps people
the warmest in the winter?
By 4000 BC, Babylonians were wearing clothing out of crudely woven wool fabric. People soon
began to develop and maintain herds of wool bearing animals, and the wool of sheep was soon
recognized as one of the most practical to use. During the eleventh and twelfth centuries, wool trade
prospered in Europe. (Wool). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
And since it s easy to weave together, they can weave it closer together making it thicker. It s
becoming a demand for its silkiness. Japan have suits made out of it and handkerchiefs. Coats and
gloves are constantly made from alpaca wool and they hold up to kids playing outside with their
sturdy but, soft fibers. Alpaca wool is not as tightly bound as wool, thus making it easier to breath
through but, is also thick enough to keep in the heat better than regular wool.
There is snow gear made out of other materials, and different materials mixed together to make
thicker, warmer, and more durable gear, like ...polybenzimidazole (PBI)/[alpha] zirconium phosphate
([alpha] Zr[(HP[O.sub.4]).sub.2] x n[H.sub.2]O, [alpha] ZrP)... (Zhang). This is what makes synthetic
a silky light weight fabric and is changed to fit the needs of the fabric. Overheating in wool is always a
problem and most people do not know about Alpaca wool, most people use down coast and are just
right. Synthetic fibres are less expensive than down and is far more resistant to moisture but, gram for

Women In Renaissance Italy
In Renaissance Italy a woman s personal identity wasn t of any great importance. Her worth in society
was calculated on how well she fit into the ideological image of the Renaissance woman. Women
depicted in art were from the upper class and nobility, these women were confined to their domestic
duties as their unions were to further the fortunes of their families. The rise of humanism in
Renaissance Italy lead to an enlightened sense of the importance of individualism; however the belief
failed to extend to women. The impact of Humanism in female portraiture showing the sitter as a fully
realised person with intellect, talents, and personality is frustratingly absent with few works displaying
a grasp on the humanity of their female subjects. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Dr. W Edwards Deming
Dr. W. Edwards Deming was a well respected man because of his philosophy of management. He
viewed management as a tool for success in any organization. Dr. Deming was an expert statistician

Deming believe that people want a sense of joy and pride in there work. Money is needed for living
but joy and pride is valued more. They want recognition more than the dollar. Along with Dr. Deming,
Herzberg believed that money is no motivator also. I know many people feel if they got paid more
than they would do more at their job. There are many who feel they are over worked and not paid
enough. They think if they were to receive more money, they would do a better job. Dr. Deming and
Herzberg would disagree. They would say that those employees do not like there job and regardless
what one would pay them, they still would not put forth their best effort because money is not a
motivator. Dr. Edward Deming also believed that a firm should want to have strong competitors. His
reasoning for saying this is to drive out fear. Better competition leads to bigger and better expansion of
the market. Customers needs are determined by what the firm makes it. We did not ask for electricity,
but we got it anyway. Now, most people would not even dare to live without it. Although many would
disagree with Dr. Deming and say that it would be more beneficial for the company to be in a market
with no strong competitors, Dr. Deming would agree with that statement. It would be good for the
company but for the economy as a whole, it would not be good for. Even though these views are not

Management of Delirium in the ICU
Introduction
Delirium is a serious condition that can affect patients in and outside the hospital. With its presence
being unknown to many nurses and providers, delirium has significant long term complications that
can last well beyond discharge. Noise, medication, and infection are significant in the development
and progression of delirium and these are more than abundant within intensive care patients. The
importance of nurse s knowledge cannot be stressed enough regarding the assessment, symptoms, and
interventions of delirium, in an effort to decrease its occurrence ... Show more content on

With each additional risk factor the likely hood of developing delirium increases. Not only does
delirium increase the cost of patients stay it can also increase the mortality rate. Of all diagnosed
delirious patients 25% will likely have permanent cognitive impairments, and more critically, those
patients who do develop delirium have a three to five fold increase in mortality.
The importance of assessing for delirium cannot be stressed enough. Dr Tsuei preformed a study that
demonstrated frequent assessment, categorized as every four awake hours, increased the detection of
delirium by 55% compared to a once daily delirium assessment. This indicates that once daily
assessment for delirium is not sufficient and no assessment is severely deficient. In assessing for
delirium every four awake hours, we increase the reporting and thus treatment of this fatal illness.
Though there is no specific treatment for delirium at this time certain medication recommendations
have been made as well as improving nursing interventions to decrease delirium. The American
Association of Critical Care Nursing, AACN recommends the use of the ICDSC and the CAM ICU
for assessment of delirium. The ICDSC has been in use since 1990 and the CAM since 2001. The
CAM is broken down into four separate components that must be established in order. First one must
determine if the patient s mental status is different from their baseline. Second, identify if the patient is
suffering from

Taming Of The Shrew By Petruchio
In Taming of the Shrew, by William Shakespeare, Petruchio took on the challenge of winning over
Kate by taking complete control over her. He not only controlled her way of living, but also her
mental and emotional capabilities. For example, Petruchio was able to have Kate laugh and speak at
his command. Not only that, but he was also able to control her voice at any given moment. Nowadays
people are not able to have this much authority over another, except in certain situations. The reason
this absurd method worked on Kate was because she was raised up in a society where women did not
have much say in most matters. However, if this method were to have taken place today, it would not
have worked because of the change in society.
In lines 1782 1784, Petruchio said and better twere that both of us did fast, since, of ourselves,
ourselves are choleric, than feed it with such over roasted flesh. Petruchio said this in response to the
horrible food his servants served him and his newly wed, Katherine. Even though Katherine did not
mind the food, Petruchio s extreme caring quality took over, and made both of them go without eating
dinner. This particular scene is important not only because it was the start of Petruchio s master plan to
win over Kate, but also because it demonstrates the ability of a person to take over another person s
way of living by depriving them their basic necessities they would need in their life. By doing this,
Katherine would now have to atleast listen

Essay about Fannie Mae Case
Fannie Mae case.
Federal regulators noted a growing string of high profile scandals at major U.S. corporations in recent
years. The number of fraud cases investigated by the Securities and Exchange Commission jumped 41
percent in the last three years (112 cases in 2001 compare to 79 cases investigated in 1998), resulting
in tens of millions of dollars in fines to settle the charges.
I have decided to take a closer look at Fannie May. This company operates in the residential mortgage

holds over $1 trillion in assets, and purchases more mortgage loans than any other lender in the U.S.
When the accounting errors first emerged Fannie Mae estimated that there would be an adjustment of
about $9 billion in its reported earnings over the contested period. That number has since increased to
over $11 billion but may increase again as further irregularities discovered with insurance related
issues. No estimate of these additional potential revisions is currently available.

Ivy Rowe s Ideas of the Past in Fair and Tender Ladies
In Lee Smith s Fair and Tender Ladies, Ivy Rowe has a constant attachment to her past. This
attachment is one of the main themes in the novel. It is one of her main reasons for letter writing and
why she does some of the things that she does, because she does not want to lose her grip on her past.
Ivy Rowe, in Lee Smith s Fair and Tender
Ladies, uses letter writing to keep a hold of her grip on the past and where she came from.
In Letters from Sugar Fork, Ivy writes for a number of reasons. She wants to see how and what other

The beauty of the mountain stays with her the rest of her life.
In Letters from Majestic, Ivy continues to use letter writing as a means to express emotions and
thoughts that she could not otherwise express. I feel I am bursting with news but I can not tell it to a
sole, I have no one to talk to. (Smith, p. 96) This quote shows just how much Ivy needs to write. She
has no one to talk to and cannot express her feelings to anyone save through writing these letters. She
continues to feel as thought she needs to hold on to the past and continue with her exploration of
herself by looking backwards instead of forwards. That is one of the biggest themes in this book. Her
journey of exploration by looking backwards instead of forwards. It is rare that in any of her letters
she really talks about things to come.
It is always about what has already happened and what is happening, very rarely does she talk about
what is to happen later.
Other reviewers of the novel agree that Ivy s letter writing is helpful for her and the people she writes
to. The adolescent Ivy s letters are often therapeutic. Her mother s plan to move to town after the
family farm fails prompts a letter to her deceased father in which
Ivy not only deals with the impact of change,

The theoretical answers that we developed to these two research questions as well as our empirical

component of its strategic management processes and of the subsequent strategic management of
public relations. The results of our research further con rm the importance of strategic public relations
in effective organizations: involvement of public relations in strategic management consistently was

Hong Kong Independence And Protests
Hong Kong Independence and Protests
Introduction
For about one hundred and fifty years, Hong Kong fell under the political administration of the British
rule, their colonial masters.
On July 1st, 1997 the British rule gave way to the People s Republic of China, who took over Hong
Kong s sovereignty. With this move, Hong Kong was declared a Special Administrative Region, in the
end that they would be fully autonomous, save for the Defense and Foreign Affairs dockets. This
would therefore mean that Hong Kong would conduct its affairs under the Basic Law, but even then
their interpretations could be amended by mainland China at any given time. It would go without

Notable again is the fact that The Chief Executive of the region has powers to appoint or to dismiss
the top team for his government, which is mandated with the formulation of government policies.
According to the Basic Law that guides legal matters in Hong Kong, the region would ultimately
embrace universal suffrage in conducting electoral processes, especially with regard to the position of
The Chief Executives.
To this extent, the law was silent on when and how this would be realized, and has been the epicenter
for Hong Kong s cry for independence, and the various protests from civil rights groups and students
bodies. Various instruments have been used to spearhead an end to these serious controversies, which
continue to ripple the society apart in this day and era of great civilization and human rights activism.
In this book, we will give a brief highlight of numerous items that are central in the roadmap to Hong
Kong independence, noting how far the region has come, and what is the legal standing of China, the
influence of Beijing, and other world leaders.

Throughout history, revolutions have occurred for many different reasons all around the world, in
many different ways. But, there is always a certain extent to which each revolution can be successful,
and also enlightened. The word successful is defined by Oxford Dictionary as accomplishing an aim

Before the revolution, king after king ruled over France with full power, and often did not take into
consideration the people s thoughts, beliefs, and opinions. Throughout the revolution, citizens from
the third estate began bringing attention to themselves and fighting for what they wanted, starting to
let their voices be heard. On July 14th, 1789, many suppressed french peasants intensely stormed the
Bastille, an important prison in France, and also captured, imprisoned, and killed french royalty to
show their anger against how they had been previously treated. This act forced King Louis VI to pay
attention to these threats from the lower class, and minimize power in the high society. Also, this was
one of the first key events that led to the french revolution s success, and the abolition of the
monarchy. Later, on October 4th in 1789, an important march took place, in which a great amount of
hungry, angry women marched towards Versailles demanding bread. The king and queen were once
again forced to recognize this event led by unhappy lower class parisians, and moved from Versailles
to Paris on October 6th. Both of these events led to the legitimization of the National Assembly, which
eventually caused the writing of the constitution and France becoming an official republic in 1972.
This matters because it marked the end of an unfair government where the third estate was

Suicide And Suicide Interventions On The Drink Of Suicide
Helping individuals suffering from suicidal ideations and attempts at self harm calls upon a social
worker s ethical obligation to service. According to the NASW Code of Ethics, social workers primary
goal is to help people in need and address social problems (National Association of Social Workers,
2008). A way to fulfill this duty is by giving first responders the tools necessary to adequately talk
with people in crisis and on the brink of suicide. Considered a preventable cause of death, suicide is a
major public health concern in many industrial and post industrial countries, and one of the three
leading causes of death worldwide among individuals from 15 to 44 years of age (Hoy, Natarajan,
Petra, 2016).
Often times individuals in crisis will come in contact with first responders either by contacting
emergency services themselves or from a call placed by a family member or concerned citizen.
According to research by Gould et al. (2013), to address the global tragedy of nearly one million
deaths by suicide worldwide, public health interventions with widespread capacity to reach at risk
populations are needed (Gould et al., 2013). One way to attain this goal is by training dispatchers, law
enforcement officers, paramedics, and firefighters on the current evidence based practices for suicidal
crisis intervention. Providing first responders with the skills needed to more effectively communicate
with the suicide population should, in turn, increase the

Harriet Beecher Stowe Essay
Biographical Summary Uncle Toms Cabin, written by Harriet Elizabeth Beecher Stowe in 1852, made
her the most widely known American woman writer of the 19th century. She was a housewife with six
children, who opposed slavery with a passion. With the advice of her sister in law she decided to write
this novel. Harriet or nicknamed Hattie Beecher was born on June 14, 1811 in Litchfield, Connecticut.
She was the sixth out of eleven children and was born into a family of powerful and demanding
individuals. With her mom, Roxanna Foote Beecher dying when she was only 4 years old, Harriet
only had a father figure to look up to growing up. Her father, Lyman Beecer, was a leading
Congregationalist minister who preached anti slavery sermons. ... Show more content on

This is what first influenced Harriet to begin writing. When Harriet had moved to Brunswick Maine
with her family, the United States Congress had just passed the Fugitive Slave Law. Shortly after, she
had planned to write a protest of slavery since her experiences in Cincinnati. Stowe then began to
work on Uncle Toms Cabin, which first appeared in serial form in a Washington, D.C. antislavery
newspaper called the National Era. The book was first published March of 1852, in a two volume set.
It became an immediate success and sold 300,000 copies in its first year. Years later, Harriet began
touring all over the world, and her novels Uncle Tom s Cabin along with Dred: A Tale of Great Dismal
Swamp were both very known in England. Another crucial experience was when she met Abraham
Lincoln in 1862. He thought of Harriet s controversial novel as a catalyst for the opposition of the
Civil War. Lincoln had told her that she was the little lady who started our big war (Encyclopedia of
World Biography 485). Harriet Stowe s writing style is very narrative and informal. Her famous book,
Uncle Tom s Cabin, is extremely personal and puts a direct storyline to slavery, which caused it to be
very contentious. Those who supported slavery convicted Stowe s work and said that it was just an
overwrought story with an unrealistic model of what slavery was really like. Stowe became notorious

Critical Reasoning Of Sin And The Serpent
Critical Reasoning of Sin and the Serpent
There are a number of circumstances involving the temptation to suggest that the serpent chose the
ideal and appropriate instant, place and individuals upon which to formulate his assault. Some have
said that the approach was intentionally directed to the woman Eve, the fragile one of the two, and not
Adam. On the contrary, some scholars say that the Scriptures indicate that Adam was present while the
conversation between the woman and the serpent took place. Genesis 3:6 specifies that the
conversation involved Adam and that he also was present.12 In addition, this also implies a very
meticulous strategy by the tempter. Primarily, as noted above, he directs his attack towards the weaker
vessel. Eve, though not inferior to Adam, was created with a submissive role, which placed her in a
more fitting position.
The emergence of feminist criticism of the Hebrew Bible offers several important examples of the
integration of scholarly issues and broader cultural concerns.13 First of all, these critics have masked
the meaning of the word adam in Genesis 2 3. On the one hand, man is the first human formed. But on
the other hand, adam is a generic term for humankind. The word adam is the Hebrew word for human.
Nevertheless, the word adam derives from the word adamah, which means earth or ground.14 The
imperative command to adam not to eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, was given to
both the man and the woman. Until

Studying Law And The Attainment Of Sound Legal
Studying law has been undoubtedly the most gainful experience of my educational pursuits. The first
year of study has afforded not only substantive knowledge of fundamental areas of the law, but also
the rigor of the first year has helped to develop skills indispensable to the attainment of sound legal
scholarship. Specifically, the considerable amount of reading required to establish a foundation of
legal understanding has incidentally improved my time management, helped to fashion an efficient
means of legal analysis, and most importantly it has enriched my legal writing ability. Also, the rigor
of law school has inspired a passion to excel in my studies beyond any prior parameters contemplated.

An Actor Prepares
An Actor Prepares by Constantin Stanislavski
Because I m usually immersed in web stuff, it s interesting to read a text whose ideas are still relevant
to its target profession 70 years on. It was mostly a more enjoyable read than I expected it s written as
if by a student of acting, reporting on a year of training. It makes clear how much more there can be to
acting than just pretending to be someone else . Unfortunately I kind of lost it around two thirds of the
way through, when he starts talking about transmitting rays to each other, and things get a bit hazy and
repetitive. Maybe that stuff makes more sense when the preceding chapters have been properly
absorbed and used. (Also see my notes on Sanford Meisner on Acting and Uta ... Show more content

35 7 Whatever happens on stage must be for a purpose, even if you outwardly appear to be doing
nothing. You must act either outwardly or inwardly.
40 41 Never simply try to act emotions emotions are caused by something that has gone before, and it
s this that you should think of. The result will produce itself.

4. Imagination
70 The actor must use his imagination to be able to answer all questions (when, where, why, how).
Make the make believer existence more definite.
71 If you do or say anything on stage without fully realising who you are, what you re doing, how you
got there, etc, you re not using your imagination. If someone asks is it cold outside? you should
remember what it was like when you were last out the sights, sensations, etc before answering.
5. Concentration of Attention
75 An actor must have a point of attention, and this point of attention must not be in the auditorium.
82 Solitude in Public : when you are in public (e.g., on stage) but have a small circle of attention and
feel alone within it.

Incident Command System are two very significant systems, that go hand in hand with each other,
therefore are presented within the same type of logic model known as the NIMS Command Chart.
Knowing the fundamental components of each and key points, discussing how these programs operate

apply very well to the management of a serious disaster that Homeland Security and public agencies
may have to deal with. By using this policy program, it organizes key information and distributes

Maturity In Tom Sawyer
Throughout multiple exciting adventures and dangerous explorations in the novel The Adventures of
Tom Sawyer , we see Tom Sawyer mature. He matures through the love of Aunt Polly, Becky, Huck
and other characters in the novel. In his search for treasure, Tom learns about personal accountability.
Even in everyday life, we watch him develop from a boy into an adult. From a selfish young,
mischievous lad, Tom becomes a sincere, kind and responsible young man.
Before we continue, we should discuss what maturity is. According to Wikipedia, the definition of
maturity is a psychological term used to indicate that a person responds to the circumstances or
environment in an appropriate and adaptive manner. This response is generally learned rather than
instinctual, and is not determined by one s age. Maturity also encompasses awareness of the correct
time and place to behave, knowing when to act with appropriate emotion for the situation. Maturity
incorporates personal accountability, meaning you take ownership of situations you are involved in.
By following one s conscience, you are taking personal accountability.
During the adventures of Huck and Tom s treasure hunting, the two came across the antagonist, Injun
Joe. Earlier, Huck and Tom witnessed Injun Joe murder a doctor and put the blame on an innocent
man. The two juvenile boys had made a vow that neither of them would tell anyone since they were
scared that Injun Joe would come after them. This shows fear that most people would experience in
this situation. Knowing that an innocent man will be punished for an act he did not commit, Tom s
conscience convinced him to testify against Injun Joe, freeing a guiltless man. Critics... view incidents
such as Tom s encounters with Injun Joe...as confrontations between innocence and evil which initiate
Tom into the world of adult responsibilities and consequences.
Near the beginning of the book, Tom falls in love with a beautiful young girl, Becky. The relationship
that Tom and Becky shared is very childish and immature. When Tom mentions his past girlfriend,
Becky gets super emotional and upset because she thinks Tom is still in love with her. Tom also claims
that he will marry Betty even though

annual Hunger Games. Katniss intends to be the center of attention of this film, which gives the
audiences a better insight of the movie, also revealing additional themes that the author is trying to
convey.

An example that demonstrates the theme of survival is after when Katniss s father passed away. Her
mother started giving up and becomes mentally unstable due to her Husband s loss. Katniss continues
to pull her family through the toughest moments after her father s death. Furthermore, Katniss s strong
personality helped to keep her and her family alive. During the Hunger Games, Katniss is out on the
battlefield hoping she will survive and declare victory. She uses a rope to climb on trees to decrease
her risk of death and she was able to take advantage of the resources that were given to her. Katniss
was able to demonstrate survival because of her ability to keep herself hidden from the enemy tributes.
Although she s from a poor district, she was able to plan her moves intelligently and succeed at the
end. Survival is a very important skill throughout Katniss s role because she wouldn t be alive without
them. However, survival wouldn t have been brought up without mentioning the next important theme
in the film.
An essential theme that is politically and socially relevant to the film is the idea of rich versus poor. In
Panem, the wealth is heavily represented as the governments and the game makers behind the Hunger
Games. On the other hand, the citizens living in the Capitol represent the poor. In contrast, there is a
huge disparity between the lives of the wealthly and the poor. Researchers believed that the alleviation

Microsoft s Visual Basic And Oracle s Java Essay
The need for more powerful and user friendly software grows exponentially every year. This means
that there is a higher demand for better quality and more versatile software. Higher quality software
that is versatile and consistent was very difficult to create for developers before object oriented
programming was created. The object oriented programming method of utilizing objects and methods
has revolutionized the way programmers create new applications. By allowing objects to be reusable
and flexible, this allows more time to be spent on creating meaningful coding tasks with less time
coding GUI s (Gaddis Irvine, 2014, p. xvii). Microsoft s Visual Basic and Oracle s Java are object
oriented programming languages that are very powerful applications which contain many similarities
while having small differences in the syntax and the usage of elements that are common to both.
Microsoft has been producing software for many years. They have a multitude of applications such as
Excel, Word and Visual Basic. The first version of Visual Basic was introduced in 1991 by Microsoft

A Short Horizon Model And The Relation Between The Stock...
In our analysis we used a short horizon model, meaning that we chose a window of 4 months before
the merger was announced and 4 months after the actual merger was completed, and studied the
security prices of the merging companies and their rivals over that time period. We then decided to use
a 3 day event window, CAR [ 1,1] first used by Andrade, Mitchell and Stafford (2001), in which the
event occurred on the 2nd day within that time frame. To do this, we used a market model to derive
the relationship between the stock price of the firms and our chosen index, the Standard and Poors
500. At this point we also examined changes in the R D intensity between companies that received a
second request and or complaint, and those that did not over the following 4 month period.
We then used regression analysis to elucidate the relationship between the different firms and the
reference index. Following this we then projected the normal returns using regression analysis for all
of the days which fell within the event window. We then took the expected returns and subtracted the
actual returns, and it was through this methodology that we could detect a relationship between
cumulative abnormal returns of the acquiror and the likelihood of receiving a second request. To
calculate the R D intensity, we take the cumulative R D for each firm in the 4 months prior to the
event and 4 months after the event and divide that by the their combined sales to reach a post merger

  • 2. Essay about Mac vs Pc Mac vs. PC: The Everlasting Debate In the world of computers, the choice of systems can be a complicated one. There are two competitors out there, PCs and Macs. Everyone has their own opinion on which is better, and there are many die hard fans in each camp. The truth is, PC s are far more popular, and for good reasons, yet the Mac system is actually the more durable and useful of the two. Firstly we will consider software availability. The majority of computer users own PC s, both for work and recreational use. Therefore, software companies find that it is far more profitable to develop software that is for use on a PC instead of a Mac. There is such a variety of software written for PC s that is unavailable for Macs that it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Today, however, Windows XP has greatly reduced the gap between the two systems. The main problem with the Mac OS is the fact that applications could be in any of several places, such as the Dock, the Desktop, or the Applications folder. With Windows XP, all applications can be accessed from the Start menu, as well as in other ways (Kaufman, 2003). Another area that Macs are ahead of PC s in is stability. The Mac OS is built on the UNIX operating system, which is by far more stable that PC s own foundations. This results in fewer crashes with the system. The Mac systems are also more stable because Apple controls everything that is plugged into the system, and each system is complete straight out of the box. With PCs, there are more peripherals to plug in, and a wide variety of different add ons available, increasing the likelihood of device conflicts (Kaufman, 2003). The people who create Macs have managed to get very far ahead of those who create PC s in design points. The Mac has been detailed to perfection, and looks sleek and simple. The PC, on the other hand, is basically a bunch of boxes and things stuck together, far clunkier, and less appealing visually. The iMac is a very compact machine, and it doesn t have random buttons and things distracting from its design. The desktop PC, however, is large and clutters up any space without looking anywhere near as simply elegant as the Mac (Kaufman, 2003)(Apple, 2006). Although ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Mrs. Linde as a Foil for Nora in in Ibsen s A Doll s... Mrs. Linde as a Foil for Nora in A Doll s House Random House Webster s dictionary defines a foil as a person or thing that makes another seem better by contrast. This essay will focus on the use of the foil to contrast another character. The characters of Nora and Mrs. Linde provide an excellent example of this literary device. Mrs. Linde s aged, experienced personality is the perfect foil for Nora s childish nature. Mrs. Linde s hard life is used to contrast the frivolity and sheltered aspects of Nora s life. Nora s optimism and belief in things improbable is an opposite to the rationality and down to earth mentality of Mrs. Linde. Finally, the rekindling of the flame between Mrs. Linde and Krogstad is a direct contrast to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Then I could hang the bills in pretty gilt paper on the Christmas tree. Wouldn t that be fun? (Ibsen 77 87) Mrs. Linde is the perfect foil for Nora as can be evidenced with the following excerpt from lines 297 301. Mrs. Linde s self sacrifice for her closest loved ones is atypical of those without the utmost maturity. Mrs. Linde married a man she did not love for the purpose of security: Nora: ...is it really true that you weren t in love with your husband? Why did you marry him then? Mrs. Linde: My mother was still alive, but bedridden and helpless and I had my two younger brothers to look after. In all conscience, I didn t think I could turn him down. Evidence of Mrs. Linde s hard life can be seen in the conversation occurring between herself and Doctor Rank, a friend of the Helmer s. In contrast to Nora s life of little trouble and frivolity, Mrs. Linde has worn herself out, both mentally and physically: Mrs. Linde: Yes, I take the stairs very slowly. They re rather hard on me. Dr. Rank: Uh hm, some touch of internal weakness? Mrs. Linde: More overexertion, I d say. Rank: Nothing else? Then you re probably here in town to rest up in a round of

They ve tried different winter gear made out of different materials, but they always found themselves too cold or too hot. And are wasting there money on different kinds of winter gear, and most do not work out. What if they tried wool, synthetic, or alpaca wool, which one keeps people the warmest in the winter? By 4000 BC, Babylonians were wearing clothing out of crudely woven wool fabric. People soon began to develop and maintain herds of wool bearing animals, and the wool of sheep was soon recognized as one of the most practical to use. Alpaca wool is not as tightly bound as wool, thus making it easier to breath through but, is also thick enough to keep in the heat better than regular wool. • 6. Women In Renaissance Italy In Renaissance Italy a woman s personal identity wasn t of any great importance. Her worth in society was calculated on how well she fit into the ideological image of the Renaissance woman. Women depicted in art were from the upper class and nobility, these women were confined to their domestic duties as their unions were to further the fortunes of their families. The rise of humanism in Renaissance Italy lead to an enlightened sense of the importance of individualism; however the belief failed to extend to women. The impact of Humanism in female portraiture showing the sitter as a fully realised person with intellect, talents, and personality is frustratingly absent with few works displaying a grasp on the humanity of their female subjects. ... Poetry written by the fourteenth century writer Petrarch described the ideal woman and her beauty: the ideal woman had blonde hair, a high forehead, pale skin, and a long neck. Dr. Deming was an expert statistician and during World War II he helped the United States in its efforts to improve the quality of war materials. After World War II, Dr. Deming was invited by Japan to help rebuild. Japan had this reputation of producing cheap imitation products. Through the years and many visits by Dr. Deming, Japan was able to produce quality products. He is highly respected in Japan and respected also in the United States. Deming believe that people want a sense of joy and pride in there work. Money is needed for living but joy and pride is valued more. They want recognition more than the dollar. Along with Dr. Deming, Herzberg believed that money is no motivator also. I know many people feel if they got paid more than they would do more at their job. There are many who feel they are over worked and not paid enough. They think if they were to receive more money, they would do a better job. Dr. Deming and Herzberg would disagree. They would say that those employees do not like there job and regardless what one would pay them, they still would not put forth their best effort because money is not a motivator. Dr. Edward Deming also believed that a firm should want to have strong competitors. His reasoning for saying this is to drive out fear. Better competition leads to bigger and better expansion of the market. Customers needs are determined by what the firm makes it. We did not ask for electricity, but we got it anyway. Now, most people would not even dare to live without it. Although many would disagree with Dr. Deming and say that it would be more beneficial for the company to be in a market with no strong competitors, Dr. Deming would agree with that statement. It would be good for the company but for the economy as a whole, it would not be good for. The importance of assessing for delirium cannot be stressed enough. Dr Tsuei preformed a study that demonstrated frequent assessment, categorized as every four awake hours, increased the detection of delirium by 55% compared to a once daily delirium assessment. This indicates that once daily assessment for delirium is not sufficient and no assessment is severely deficient. In assessing for delirium every four awake hours, we increase the reporting and thus treatment of this fatal illness. Though there is no specific treatment for delirium at this time certain medication recommendations have been made as well as improving nursing interventions to decrease delirium. The American Association of Critical Care Nursing, AACN recommends the use of the ICDSC and the CAM ICU for assessment of delirium. The ICDSC has been in use since 1990 and the CAM since 2001. The CAM is broken down into four separate components that must be established in order. First one must determine if the patient s mental status is different from their baseline. Second, identify if the patient is suffering from ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Taming Of The Shrew By Petruchio In Taming of the Shrew, by William Shakespeare, Petruchio took on the challenge of winning over Kate by taking complete control over her. He not only controlled her way of living, but also her mental and emotional capabilities. For example, Petruchio was able to have Kate laugh and speak at his command. Not only that, but he was also able to control her voice at any given moment. Nowadays people are not able to have this much authority over another, except in certain situations. The reason this absurd method worked on Kate was because she was raised up in a society where women did not have much say in most matters. However, if this method were to have taken place today, it would not have worked because of the change in society. In lines 1782 1784, Petruchio said and better twere that both of us did fast, since, of ourselves, ourselves are choleric, than feed it with such over roasted flesh. Petruchio said this in response to the horrible food his servants served him and his newly wed, Katherine. Even though Katherine did not mind the food, Petruchio s extreme caring quality took over, and made both of them go without eating dinner. This particular scene is important not only because it was the start of Petruchio s master plan to win over Kate, but also because it demonstrates the ability of a person to take over another person s way of living by depriving them their basic necessities they would need in their life. By doing this, Katherine would now have to atleast listen ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

On July 14th, 1789, many suppressed french peasants intensely stormed the Bastille, an important prison in France, and also captured, imprisoned, and killed french royalty to show their anger against how they had been previously treated. This act forced King Louis VI to pay attention to these threats from the lower class, and minimize power in the high society. • 16. Suicide And Suicide Interventions On The Drink Of Suicide Helping individuals suffering from suicidal ideations and attempts at self harm calls upon a social worker s ethical obligation to service. According to the NASW Code of Ethics, social workers primary goal is to help people in need and address social problems (National Association of Social Workers, 2008). A way to fulfill this duty is by giving first responders the tools necessary to adequately talk with people in crisis and on the brink of suicide. Considered a preventable cause of death, suicide is a major public health concern in many industrial and post industrial countries, and one of the three leading causes of death worldwide among individuals from 15 to 44 years of age (Hoy, Natarajan, Petra, 2016). Often times individuals in crisis will come in contact with first responders either by contacting emergency services themselves or from a call placed by a family member or concerned citizen. According to research by Gould et al. (2013), to address the global tragedy of nearly one million deaths by suicide worldwide, public health interventions with widespread capacity to reach at risk populations are needed (Gould et al., 2013). One way to attain this goal is by training dispatchers, law enforcement officers, paramedics, and firefighters on the current evidence based practices for suicidal crisis intervention. Harriet Beecher Stowe Essay Biographical Summary Uncle Toms Cabin, written by Harriet Elizabeth Beecher Stowe in 1852, made her the most widely known American woman writer of the 19th century. She was a housewife with six children, who opposed slavery with a passion. With the advice of her sister in law she decided to write this novel. Harriet or nicknamed Hattie Beecher was born on June 14, 1811 in Litchfield, Connecticut. She was the sixth out of eleven children and was born into a family of powerful and demanding individuals. This is what first influenced Harriet to begin writing. When Harriet had moved to Brunswick Maine with her family, the United States Congress had just passed the Fugitive Slave Law. Shortly after, she had planned to write a protest of slavery since her experiences in Cincinnati. Stowe then began to work on Uncle Toms Cabin, which first appeared in serial form in a Washington, D.C. antislavery newspaper called the National Era. The book was first published March of 1852, in a two volume set. It became an immediate success and sold 300,000 copies in its first year. Years later, Harriet began touring all over the world, and her novels Uncle Tom s Cabin along with Dred: A Tale of Great Dismal Swamp were both very known in England. Another crucial experience was when she met Abraham Lincoln in 1862. He thought of Harriet s controversial novel as a catalyst for the opposition of the Civil War. Lincoln had told her that she was the little lady who started our big war (Encyclopedia of World Biography 485). Harriet Stowe s writing style is very narrative and informal. Her famous book, Uncle Tom s Cabin, is extremely personal and puts a direct storyline to slavery, which caused it to be very contentious. Those who supported slavery convicted Stowe s work and said that it was just an overwrought story with an unrealistic model of what slavery was really like. • 19. Critical Reasoning Of Sin And The Serpent Critical Reasoning of Sin and the Serpent There are a number of circumstances involving the temptation to suggest that the serpent chose the ideal and appropriate instant, place and individuals upon which to formulate his assault. Some have said that the approach was intentionally directed to the woman Eve, the fragile one of the two, and not Adam. On the contrary, some scholars say that the Scriptures indicate that Adam was present while the conversation between the woman and the serpent took place. Genesis 3:6 specifies that the conversation involved Adam and that he also was present.12 In addition, this also implies a very meticulous strategy by the tempter. Primarily, as noted above, he directs his attack towards the weaker vessel. Eve, though not inferior to Adam, was created with a submissive role, which placed her in a more fitting position. The emergence of feminist criticism of the Hebrew Bible offers several important examples of the integration of scholarly issues and broader cultural concerns.13 First of all, these critics have masked the meaning of the word adam in Genesis 2 3. On the one hand, man is the first human formed. But on the other hand, adam is a generic term for humankind. The word adam is the Hebrew word for human. Nevertheless, the word adam derives from the word adamah, which means earth or ground.14 The imperative command to adam not to eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, was given to both the man and the woman. Even in everyday life, we watch him develop from a boy into an adult. From a selfish young, mischievous lad, Tom becomes a sincere, kind and responsible young man. Before we continue, we should discuss what maturity is. According to Wikipedia, the definition of maturity is a psychological term used to indicate that a person responds to the circumstances or environment in an appropriate and adaptive manner. This response is generally learned rather than instinctual, and is not determined by one s age. Maturity also encompasses awareness of the correct time and place to behave, knowing when to act with appropriate emotion for the situation. This means that there is a higher demand for better quality and more versatile software. Higher quality software that is versatile and consistent was very difficult to create for developers before object oriented programming was created. The object oriented programming method of utilizing objects and methods has revolutionized the way programmers create new applications. By allowing objects to be reusable and flexible, this allows more time to be spent on creating meaningful coding tasks with less time coding GUI s (Gaddis Irvine, 2014, p. xvii). Microsoft s Visual Basic and Oracle s Java are object oriented programming languages that are very powerful applications which contain many similarities while having small differences in the syntax and the usage of elements that are common to both. Microsoft has been producing software for many years. They have a multitude of applications such as Excel, Word and Visual Basic. • 34. A Short Horizon Model And The Relation Between The Stock... In our analysis we used a short horizon model, meaning that we chose a window of 4 months before the merger was announced and 4 months after the actual merger was completed, and studied the security prices of the merging companies and their rivals over that time period. We then decided to use a 3 day event window, CAR [ 1,1] first used by Andrade, Mitchell and Stafford (2001), in which the event occurred on the 2nd day within that time frame. To do this, we used a market model to derive the relationship between the stock price of the firms and our chosen index, the Standard and Poors 500. At this point we also examined changes in the R D intensity between companies that received a second request and or complaint, and those that did not over the following 4 month period. We then used regression analysis to elucidate the relationship between the different firms and the reference index. Following this we then projected the normal returns using regression analysis for all of the days which fell within the event window. We then took the expected returns and subtracted the actual returns, and it was through this methodology that we could detect a relationship between cumulative abnormal returns of the acquiror and the likelihood of receiving a second request. To calculate the R D intensity, we take the cumulative R D for each firm in the 4 months prior to the event and 4 months after the event and divide that by the their combined sales to reach a post merger research and ... Nichol s said it was because McVeigh threatened to kill his family if he didn t help. People say McVeigh picked the Murrah Federal building it provided excellent camera angles for the media to get its coverage. Also, McVeigh would use this attack as a platform to get his anti government message out to the public. First I wanna talk about the two events that ignited his anger towards the government. First, it was in the summer of 1992 when Randy Weaver a white separatist was engaged in a standoff. The government had suspected Weaver of selling illegal sawed off shotguns. The siege resulted in the death of Weaver s fourteen year old son and his wife. Secondly, in April of 1993, the famous Waco, Texas siege happened.
