Infectious Disease Personal Statement
My interest in Infectious disease began even before entering residency half way across the world in
the unique country of Nepal. Nepal is rich in natural beauty with breath taking landscapes, diverse
culture but is also one of the most impoverished. I had the privilege to witness first hand how the
dedicated physicians living there do the most with less in one of the most remotest parts of Nepal.
Majority of the cases were infectious in nature with differentials including organisms not as prevalent
in the US: tuberculosis, typhoid, dengue, malaria, brucellosis and leptospirosis to name a few. What
the physicians lacked in resources, they made up their close attention to detail in both the history and
the thoroughness of their physical exam. My interest further developed during my residency years
where I had the pleasure of working with seasoned infectious disease attendings and was exposed to
an array of pathology... even seeing a handful of extremely rare ... Show more content on

I cannot envision myself going into private practice or being away from a teaching environment. I take
pride and enjoyment in teaching and mentoring my fellow interns and rotating medical students: be it
through formal daily attending rounds or in a more intimate capacity as 1 on 1 tutoring of my peers
who feel that infectious disease is not their strongpoint.
The ideal program for me I feel is the one that maintains a good balance between clinical and
academic aspects of infectious disease. I seek a program that serves a wide and diverse populace
accompanied by wide array of pathology of varying complexity, emphasizes the importance of
education, critical thinking, evidence based medicine, gives some aspect autonomy allowing its
fellows to develop as independent clinicians and is supported by a dedicated faculty which will help
guide me in whichever career path in infectious disease I may wish to

Executive Summary.
This case analysis evaluates Chick fil A. It is designed to show the Strength, weakness, opportunities
and threat. It delineates how the founding principles have guided the company over the years, and how
it has responded slowly to change over the years. CFA has grown to be a force to reckon with in the
industry with strength in customer experience and sandwich trademark. However, the emerging
markets, social changes, economic issues and intense rivalry will continue to pose threat to this strong
cultured company. At the end of the case analysis, we would have been able to ... Show more content

He demanded enduring loyalty among customers and customers. CFA s customers spans through the
entire population spectrum, however, it focuses on family. The high expectations by CFA are
obviously because of the need to preserve the founding heritage and culture. As CFA strives to be the
best quick service restaurant , key external factors affect CFA. Demographics is a major threat, this
includes race, age and gender. CFA is family oriented and believes in marriage, but a comment he
made on this issue earned him a bad publicity. However, that created an opportunity in the Christian
community. Despite the harm of this factor, revenue went up same year. His adherence to his
principles proved to people that CFA would not downplay its core values. Another threat are rivalry
and intense competitors. The industry is a 120 million dollar industry with about 50 percent offering
the hamburger entrees. (hoovers.com 2008). Some of these competitors are KFC, Subway, Burger
King, McDonalds and Taco Bell. New entrants is a threat to CFA, example is Oporto who just made
its way into the United States. There is also the threat from substitutes. Since Sundays are off days for
CFA, customers will like to look for substitutes, and if rivals provided them, this might affect CFA.
Example of substitute from rival is McDonalds southern chicken sandwich which in fact can come
with biscuit and pickles in the morning. The crave for

Edgar Allan Poe Inference
An inference we can make about Edgar Allan Poe is that he writes to show the downsides of love. In
the article A Terrible Evil : Edgar Allan Poe Writes About His Wife s Illness and Death by Rebecca
Onion it states, Again in about a year afterward. Then again again again even once again at varying
intervals. Each time I felt all the agonies of her death and at each accession of the disorder I loved her
more dearly clung to her life with more desperate pertinacity. Poe s wife was constantly ill and each
time she became better Poe had hope, but them she would fall ill again and Poe would be in agony.
This relates to the inference that Edgar Allan Poe writes to show the downsides of love because he is
in agony due to his wife s constant ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This I can do endure as becomes a man it was the horrible never ending oscillation between hope
despair which I could not longer have endured without the total loss of reason. He found the
permanent solution to his agony in the death of his wife. This relates to the inference that Edgar Allan
Poe writes to show the downsides of love because the only way for his agony to be cured was for the
love of live, his wife, to die. The love that he had for his wife caused him to be in pain when ever she
was ill which is a downside of live that he writes about. In the poem The Raven by Edgar Allan Poe it
is written, From my books surcease of sorrow sorrow for the lost Lenore For the rare and radiant
maiden whom the angels name Lenore Nameless here for evermore. The narrator is morning the loss
of his love Lenore. This supports the inference that Poe writes to tells us of the downsides of love
because the narrator is talking about how the death of his love is causing him to mourn for her which
is a downside of love. Poe also writes, And the only word there spoken was the whispered word,

Third Man Corruption
The Film Noir, The Third Man , showed the evident effect that World War 2 had on people. Since this
film was produced in 1949, after World War 2, it reflected the social fears and cultural changes that
have plagued people during post war. Before the war, there was the ideology of the strong American
family. This family portrayed strong values such as happiness, hardworking, and optimism. However
during post war, there was a shade of darkness as fear, greed and evil lurking. The Third Man
portrayed the social, economic and moral corruption which reflects off the social evils during the post
war era. One example of economic corruption is shown in the Ferris Wheel Scene. In this scene, we
see Harry Limes, who is presumed dead, meeting with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Their moral corruption relates back to the measures that spies had to take and the fear they installed
during the post war era/Cold War. Limes faked his own death and kills someone else to take his place.
His death caused emotional distress for people that care about him. His death caused people like
Holly, to go around the town trying to solve his murder case while leaving his mistress, Anna to be
heart broken. Limes also continues to puts innocent children into hospitals because of his diluted
penicillin. This relates back to the moral corruption of both CIA and KGB spies. Both parties were
performing acts of espionage to gather intel on each other. Although these spies weren t selling on the
black market, they were putting their families under emotional distress as well as possibly tearing
families apart. Despite Lime s lack of family members shown in the film, Anna and Holly were the
closest he had to family. Additionally, the paranoia of spies possibly being your next door neighbor,
installed fear into normal citizens. Knowing that spies were living among other citizens caused panic
and anxiety to many. Reciprocal to the movie, we see the discomfort and anxiety that Limes have
caused Holly. Holly runs all over the city, trying to piece together his friends death while clearing
Limes name. While causing him all these troubles, Holly inevitably and terrifyingly comes to realize

Auschwitz Concentration Camp Research Paper
Jazmin Miller
World Lit 2A
Auschwitz Concentration Camp The Auschwitz Birkneau concentration camp was established I 1940
by the Germans. It s located just outside Oswiecim, Poland. The original reason of establishment was
that the mass arrests of Poles were too much for the capacity of local prisons. Eventually, it became
the largest death camp of the Holocaust. Auschwitz covered about 40 square miles and had more than
40 sub camps within a several hundreds kilometer radius. The camp consisted of 22 prewar brick
barracks buildings. The first prisoners at the camp were mostly Poles. In 1940, there were about 8,000
people registered. In 1942, Jews were being sent to Auschwitz by the hundreds of thousands. About
197,000 Jews were deported there in 1942, in the following year about 270,000, and in 1944 over
600,000. All together that s about 1.1 million. Of those people, only about 200,000 were selected as
labor workers and were actually registered in the camp. Jews made up the majority of the ethnic
groups. However, there were also 140 150 thousand ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Why Creationism Should Not Be Taught in Public Schools...
A hotly debated topic concerning public schools centers on the origin of life. Now more than ever,
science and religion are butting heads. What should public schools teach to their students? Alex
Rainert reasons that both science and religion are engaged in the same project, to discover the origin
of life (141). In short, one could better describe the debate as a crusade between evolutionists and
creationists; both sides have their well founded arguments, but when one looks at the decisions of the
courts, clearly only one side may win the battle when deciding biology curriculum in schools. Despite
an overwhelming number of individuals in favor of teaching creationism in public education, science
classes should refrain from becoming a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Otherwise, teaching creationism encroaches upon separation of church and state.
Certainly many Americans in favor of teaching both theories may do so for the sake of imparting
critical thinking skills to our schoolchildren. Costley and Killins agree with this notion, emphasizing
that true academics teaches schoolchildren alternate theories as well as analytical thinking (5). As a
result, creationists weigh in heavily at schools, compelling them to introduce other scientific theories
dealing with the origin of life (Raymo 152). In this regard, when it applies to all area of academics,
many more people would agree. Teaching only one theory on any matter seems indicative of a
totalitarian form of education. Therefore, teachers should want to introduce students to as many
alternative theories as possible. However, the dissenting theories they present must have factual
ground on which to stand on. Since the theory of creationism stands on shaky ground scientifically, it
should have no place in science education classes.
Interestingly, Alex Rainert, a man in favor of teaching both creationism and evolution, states that
evolution is as much a theory as the theory of plate tectonics or Einstein s theory of relativity. Yet, he
explains, a campaign against those theories in courtrooms is, in essence, nonexistent (140).

The Illinois State Board Of Education
As schools in Illinois transition to the new Common Core State Standards (CCSS), the Illinois State
Board of Education (ISBE) has taken steps to provide districts with resources to aid in this transition.
ISBE has created five foundational services with the goal of creating educational continuity
throughout the state, from Rockford to Cairo. These five foundational services include continuous
improvement planning, balanced assessment, teacher evaluation, new Illinois learning standards for
mathematics, and new Illinois learning standards for English Language Arts (ELA). Our district began
transitioning to the CCSS a few years ago. In doing so, we took some professional development days

Illinois learning standards for English Language Arts. This workshop provided an overview of nine
ELA shift kits. These kits are provided by ISBE to aid classroom teachers in the shift to the CCSS. For
this evaluation of a reading program, I have chosen to evaluate the usefulness of these ELA shift kits
and my school s familiarity with these ELA shifts. Components of Evaluation To begin my evaluation,
I wanted to find out what my teaching peers already knew about the ELA shift kits. I was also curious
as to overall knowledge of our school s focus on literacy and our student s literacy needs. Therefore, I
created a needs assessment to collect this information. I distributed to the needs assessment to our high
school teachers and staff, which is twenty three total members, not including myself. These members
consist of eighteen teachers, two classroom aides, one guidance counselor, and two building
administrators. The needs assessment consists of eleven total questions. The first nine questions
employed a rating scale of 1 through 5. Question ten asked participants to choose one of the nine ELA
shift kits on which they d like to receive more information. Finally, question eleven asked teachers to

Changing The Importance Of The Destination In Homer s Odyssey
It s 6 in the morning every time we leave for Billings. Even though it s just a two hour drive, I hate the
part of waking up so early. Now comes the checking of the luggage; dog food, pillows, snacks, in the
car activities. One trip, however changed everything. I moved back to sheridan when my grandpa got
sick, and the two hour drive seemed like an eternity leaving everything I loved in Billings. That s
when the journey mattered more than the destination, when the journey changes the importance of the
destination.
One way to look at how the important the journey is in comparison to the importance of the
destination, is through the Odyssey. The whole epic is about the journey and how it changes the
importance of the destination to Odysseus. He was gone for twenty years and all that time he was
dealing with gods, monsters, the ocean, even his own men. While in the process of all ... Show more

It happens to all of us, whether we re prepared or not. Change occurs when you least expect it and
everyone changes in their own way. Growing up is a physical change. You don t stay a baby forever,
we all grow up and live our lives and life always asks different things from different people. That s all
based on how we go through our lives; our journey until we reach our final destination. Death.
Another piece from Anne Sexton s Courage shows this perfectly. It is in the small things we see it. The
child s first step, as awesome as an earthquake. (Lines 1 3) and you ll bargain with the calendar and at
the last moment when death opens the back door you ll put on your carpet slippers and stride out.
(Lines 43 47). Life isn t always going to be easy, and we need all the help we can get at times. Life s
journey takes people on many different paths, but their all for different reasons. Courage defines a
small portion of who we are as people. We need courage on our journeys through life to help us, guide

The Reformation And Its Impact On The Early Modern Period
The reformation was a drastic event in the early modern period that launched Europe into a massive
conflict of widespread violence, through both political and religious factors. The political scene had
remained very much the same before the beginning of the reformation in 1517, with many
philosophers sharing similar ideas on how to handle the issues of sovereignty and private property.
Religion was a long debated factor before the reformation however was brought inadvertently to the
forefront of most political works in the early years of the Protestant Reformation. This event
completely changed the way in which philosophers constructed their political discourse as seen with
More and Martin Luther, who although despite being placed on ... Show more content on

This shift from promoting an ideal Utopia in his work to openly and aggressively defending the
Catholic Church is one of the first examples of the Reformations affect on changing political discourse
from criticisms to open violent outbursts and pleas of aggression. Adding to this further is More s
response to Tyndale in 1531, where More states the Reformation is a genuine danger to all of Catholic
society4. More was eventually executed but stated I die the Kings faithful servant, but Gods First 5
revealing although More hated the Reformation, he had stood by his religious values, including his
King, making his political writing still plausible in terms of how an authority, such as a monarch,
could work hand in hand in a religious society. More s response to Tyndale and final words shows
how much his own way of political discourse had shifted through the years of the reformation, as he
had called for violence in the early years 1517, aggressively insulted protestant philosophers such as
Luther, but had now consorted to reason. Therefore it can be concluded that many of the philosophers
actions during the early years of the Reformation were shock reactions to this shift in power and
apparent attack on the perceived Catholic state rather than a true change in political discourse, as
many of the underlying religious opinions in political writing has been retained.
Martin Luther was one of the most important individuals in changing political discourse in the

The Effects Of Obstructive Sleep Apnea
A good nights sleep is one of life s basic components. But how many of us get a restful night of sleep?
And do you feel unrefreshed after waking up and daytime sleepiness, no matter how much time you
spent in bed? Does your partner complain that you snore extremely loudly? The reason for these are
that there re some sleep related disorders that weaken the quality of life and sleep apnea is one such
kind.
Some facts about sleep apnea
It s defined as a disorder characterized by interruptions of breathing during a single night s sleep. Your
breathing temporarily pauses for a few seconds to minutes while sleeping due to blockage of the upper
airways and these pauses in breathing is called as apneas.
For example, the person will have disruptive ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

other congenital disorders.
Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is the common sleep disorder, occurs when the brain send signals to
the muscles. Moreover, the airway is partially or completely blocked during sleep due to relaxation of
the tongue and airway muscles. People with OSA is commonly associated with snoring. Individuals
with OSA can also result in excessive daytime tiredness, morning headaches, mood and behaviourial

Mixed sleep apnea is a combination of both central and obstructive.
According to a study by Himalayan Institute of Medical Sciences in 2013, OSA affects almost 13 19%

Route 62 Poem
In her poem Route 62, Helen Moffett paints a beautiful and powerful picture of the landscape in South
Africa. However, the title evokes the image of a man made road familiar to many Americans.
Nonetheless, Moffett carefully structures her poem and employs vivid language to clearly illustrate
that human achievements and life, like the titular road, are ultimately insignificant in comparison to
the durability of the long lasting mountains. Through intricate construction the poem, Moffett s form
and tone reveals the timeless nature of the power of Earth and its elements. Route 62 is a free verse
poem, reflecting how nature is free from any patterns mankind may want to impose on it. Moreover,
the first few lines of the poem establishes a tranquil tone as the mountains are lying slumbering,
evoking a peaceful image (2). As the mountains sleep, little action occurs, allowing them to match the
static image many people would contemporarily associate mountains with. Furthermore, the heat of
the landscape drapes its own spines and ribs (5). The metaphor of a skeleton reflects how the
mountains are merely a shell of what they once were, as described in their formation. Nevertheless,
this is not to say they are invariable nor no longer powerful. In a line that transitions between the
mountains being described in the present with a serene tone, and the fierce tone that follows, the
author says, history has folded these ranges (6). The personification of a powerful force like

Life of W. Eugene Smith Essay
William Eugene Smith was an American photographer who produced photographic projects that
changed how photographs were portrayed. Rather than a photo being a photo, he told stories through
his photographs, through a practice called photojournalism. His photographic projects depicted people
in their everyday lives, but in different situations. The photographs he took did not hide anything that
he saw from the audience no matter how graphic the scenery may appear to be. His photography
methods differed from traditional methods, in that traditional photographs/photographic projects were
a distortion of reality, so that it is more pleasing to the audience. Smith on the other showed what was
actually going on in the world or wherever he was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An example was five photographs he took of the Labor Day motorboat races, which described the
event in a narrative form (Hughes 12). In 1936, Smith graduated high school and attended Notre
Dame University, where a special photographic scholarship was awarded to him (Magnum Photos).
However, a year later, Smith left the university, and went to study at New York Institute of
Photography. In the same year, 1937, Gene was hired to work for Newsweek, where his first two
photo assignments were to photograph the Rockettes at Radio City Hall and the other project was to
photograph a medical operation. Many of the editors and other photographers at Newsweek were
impressed by Smith s photographs, and he secured a job at Newsweek. His newfound employment
fulfilled his goal of becoming a professional photojournalist. However, down the line he was to
change the way he took photographs, which he obliged to at first; Smith was to use a larger camera, a
tripod and the old fashioned open shutter technique whenever he needed flash (Hughes 49). He later
decided that the smaller camera he used was better to take photographs, following his instincts Smith
used his small camera rather than the larger one when taking his photographs, disregarding the orders
from the editors at Newsweek; this decision caused him to be fired from his job.
He then went job searching, and joined the Black Star Agency as a freelancer in 1938 (Magnum
Photos). Here at the agency, he

Examples Of Bacon s Rebellion
Howard Zinn discussed several things in this chapter. At first, he mentioned the white frontiersmen
rebellion and how the rebellion threat the government. This rebellion was bacon s rebellion. Also, he
talked about how the England government ended this rebellion. The main argument for Zinn in this
chapter was the division of the community in the colonies according to social and economic status into
upper class which was the wealthy people, and the lower class which consist of poor people. Also, he
talked about the relationship among white, and Indians, and black slaves. The first thing was the
division of the community. First, Zinn stated that the Bacon s rebellion was anti aristocrat and anti

They were poor in England before coming to North America and remained poor. Many of them died in

suffered from it. For instance, the servant women were raped. In addition, if the servants want to
marry, their master should agree otherwise he could separate the family. Moreover, Zinn stated the
government, which the wealthy men controlled it, passed laws to punish the servants. Also, the white
servants gained their freedom after a long time, but they remained in their poor class. Also, Zinn stated
another example of division by mentioning that in the Carolinas, John Locke, set up a feudal type
aristocracy. Locke s constitution stated that eight barons would own 40 percent of the land and only
barons could be governor. In addition, Zinn stated that the governors gave the lands to their friends; at
the same time, the poor people didn t have lands or foods. Another thing, Zinn said, All the cities built

How Do Preemie Diapers
Pampers are the number one selling diaper brand. They now introduced the preemie diaper in 2002.
Preemie diapers were specifically tailored for premature babies at the lowest of one to two pounds.
The creator, Susan Ludwig s inspiration behind it all was after the birth of her third child. At the time,
she was rooming with another mother who had premature baby and felt lost and heartbroken. Seeing
this woman in distress gave her the idea of this type of diaper, after all, preemie babies are the most
delicate and most fragile. ( Pampers 1). After asking many nurses to critique on the diaper they
currently use; they had finally come up with the perfect diaper ( Pampers 1). The Pampers diapers

Loyalty And Loyalty For United Airline s Frequent Flyer...
Loyalty
While I m an atypical U.S. consumer who doesn t buy into marketing hype, I do have strong
product/service loyalty affiliations. I ll try to keep my Journal entry under 1000 words! I like to revisit
the meaning of familiar words. Merriam Webster (n.d.) defines loyalty as, The quality or state or an
instance of being loyal . This is exactly what brand loyalty and loyalty programs are trying to create:
an ongoing experience with multiple touch points that captures followers and keeps them engaged
through rewards, added value, and prestige . The goal is to lengthen the lifetime value of the customer
(Tanner Raymond, 2010, p. 284) which helps to maximize profits.
My Loyalties
For some brands, my loyalty grew from happenstance and remains so because of switching costs.
United Airline s frequent flyer program, called Premiere is one example, more so, since their spreader
effect enticed me into a United branded credit card that awards flight miles for every purchase. I didn t
set out to join United s loyalty program because I thought their service was better, or they had lower
airfares, it s because they have a hub in San Francisco that offers the most flight options when I m
traveling by air for business.
For other products, affinity is a result of my family s subtle influence, and probably why I favor Coke
over Pepsi. I d like to think that I chose to prefer one over the other, but it s more likely because my
parents drank Coke, which I grew accustomed to, and why

Food is a vital component of a theater s profit making. Most profits come from the high markup on
popcorn and soda. Movie theaters are really in the snack business. In the bloom of the cinema,

Based on Maxwell, leadership is a verb not a noun and it s a process not a destination or finish line.
There are 5 levels, level 1: position, level 2: permission, level 3: production, level 4: people

Richard Branson has reached the level 5, which is pinnacle. Pinnacle simply means that a leader that
has a reputation for excellence because people follow him not because of his position but because who

High School Football Importance
Over and over again we hear that children should be involved in extracurricular activities. Children
are told to get out there, see what you like, find your passion, and to be involved. While some like to
join academic clubs to further enhance their learning in a subject, others find that athletic activities are
more valuable to their lives. By children being able to play a sport, such as football, they are able to
get involved, find a passion, make long lasting friendships, and learn valuable life lessons. The value
of high school football can be seen by looking at the priceless life lessons, the enjoyment of the sport,
and the achievements made by these student athletes. When thinking of lessons, many people s minds

Critical Success Factors Of A Firm s Performance
Critical success factors are measures of those aspects of a firm s performance that are essential to its
competitive advantage and, therefore, to its success (Blocher, Stout, Juras, Cokins, 2013). One of the
original uses of Critical Success Factors as a concept is by McKinsey and Company in Boston during
the 1950s to determine how a corporation should compete in each of its many business units (Isakson
Sircar, 1990). As can be seen by the above quote, for a company in the real estate business all of these
critical success factors are either dependent upon or relate to the service provided by the firm. If a
company is not providing the level or type of service which consumers are demanding, then none of
the critical success factors mentioned above will show a positive position or future for the company. A
generational change in the needs and wants of consumers in the real estate business has caused the
growth of what the traditional service providers are calling hybrids, such as Redfin, Help A Sell, and
Xome, which provide services to consumers that focus heavily on technological innovation and
cutting cost for their customers (Inman, 2015).
Sales, profitability, and liquidity are the three financial critical success factors. These three do not
require much discussion as they are factors discussed by all when evaluating the current state of any
company in any industry. Without sales and profits a company cannot succeed and with a trend
showing these two things

The Role of Class in Evelina Essay
The Role of Class in Evelina
What is the definition of class ? Burney expresses how class is viewed in the eighteenth century
society through the novel Evelina. In the novel, Burney exposes to the reader different classes of
characters from the aristocrats to the merchants to the commoners and to the prostitutes. Burney also
reveals how different character defines the word class. Madame Duval thinks money and material are
sufficient qualifications to belong to the high society. Mrs. Beaumont believes that a person s class is
set by birth; the social class one is born into defines one s social status. However, Burney seems to
disagree with both of the characters. Through the character of the heroine Evelina, Burney ... Show

as a companion to Miss Mirvan. Being vicious as he is, He believes that by establish the commonality
of Evelina s social status, she will not be able to be accepted by the elite social class. Not only did
Burney point out the importance of social ranking, she, at the same time, exhibits the ill nature of
those who make use of such information regarding other peoples status to their advantage.
Burney seems to be criticizing the double standard treatment of people who lacks class and those who
has high status. She disapproves the conduct of people in the novel who have the characteristic that
appears to be changing with the tide. Mrs. Beaumont s character is satirically described as the absolute

Differences And Similarities Between Lady Macbeth And The...
Both Robert Browning and William Shakespeare present their characters as strong, yet flawed
individuals. This essay will explore the ways in which Shakespeare presents Lady Macbeth of
Macbeth and Browning presents the Narrator of the poem The Laboratory in these ways by comparing
both texts and using quotes to demonstrate this as both do this by using a variety of different language
techniques and devices. This essay will compare how audiences would have reacted during the
Victorian and Elizabethan era, compared to a 21st century audience today.
William Shakespeare portrays Lady Macbeth as a confident individual all throughout the play, this is

characters use imperative verbs and quite violent words such as grind , mash and screw , which make
the speaker sound quite aggressive and demanding. The women are shown to be ordering the men
around and telling them what to do in an impolite manner, this would be seen as unorthodox especially
during the 16th century as women were seen as inferior to men, whereas compared to the 21st century
both women would be seen as quite strong in contrast. Both characters have different aims, Lady
Macbeth is shown to be telling Macbeth to become more brave to kill the King and commit regicide
whereas the narrator is demanding the person making the poison in the apothecary to take their time

three things you must do for your hot tub as winter rolls around: Check For Leaks Damage: Cracks in

China s poverty rate seems rather low, but when you do the math, they have about 78 million people

Arab Emirates. India and Oman have very similar poverty rates and the two highest in this
comparison. India has a rate of 29.8% and Oman, with the highest at 32%.
There must be some reason for the high poverty rates, let s look at the income inequality in all seven
of these countries, starting with the United Arab Emirates. The UAE has a Gini coefficient, a
statistical measure of the degree of variation or inequality represented in a set of values, of 36%
(Wikipedia, 2017). It also has a GDP per capita of $43,048.85, which seems very high for a country
with a 20% poverty rate. Oman, although I have not found a Gini coefficient, has a GDP per capita of
$21,929.01, which is about half of the UAE s. Saudi Arabia has a Gini coefficient of 45.9% and it has
a GDP like Oman s at $25,961.81. Brazil has a Gini coefficient of 51.1%, which means that the wealth
isn t very spread around and many people are poor. Brazil s GDP per capita is $11,208.08, which is
almost four time lower than the UAE s, but maybe that is because Brazil has a much larger population
than the UAE. China has a Gini coefficient of 42.2% and a low GDP per capita of $6,807.43. China

Breughel s Icarus By Michael Hamburger
Michael Hamburger uses painting of Breughel s Icarus as a background for his poem, Lines on
Brueghel s Icarus . To fully understand the purpose of this poem, the painting should be analyzed and
the myth of Icarus should be known. Hamburger uses specific diction and attitude for purpose, and the
shift between the first and second stanza is noticeable.
In the first stanza, the stage is set with the types of people who would be close to the fallen Icarus: the
ploughman, fisherman, and the sailor. However, none succeed in recognizing the rise and fall of Icarus

From labeling the observations of the characters, the second stanza mentions the actual events that

add to the effect, making it concrete fact in the readers mind. But what is too late? The shepherd s
observation or the option Icarus chose? Perhaps it was the shepherd s fault or the other characters fault
for failing to make the observations to save the angel, Icarus . Nevertheless, Icarus made his choice for

passion became his doom. Hamburger approaches this angle but as he uses the word scorn , it s as if
Icarus did it to spite the gods and his father with his magnificence. In the end, the planet won, jeering,
now slinks off, to rise once more . This phrase personifies the sun, giving an attitude of sweet victory

Hair Fibers
The word hair usually refers to two distinct structures:
the part beneath the skin, called the hair follicle or when pulled from the skin, called the bulb. This
organ is located in the dermis and maintains stem cells, which not only re grow the hair after it falls
out, but also are recruited to regrow skin after a wound.[2] the shaft, which is the hard filamentous
part that extends above the skin surface. A cross section of the hair shaft may be divided roughly into
three zones.
Hair fibers have a structure consisting of several layers, starting from the outside:

Oval and irregularly shaped fibers are generally more wavy or even curly. The cuticle is the outer
covering. Its complex structure slides as the hair swells and is covered with a single molecular layer of
lipid that makes the hair repel water.[4] The diameter of human hair varies from .017 to .18
millimeters (0.00067 to 0.00709 in).[6] There are two million small, tubular glands and sweat glands

Yan et al (2008) Ebeling (1997), pointed out the purpose of maintenance is to extend equipment life
and minimise the frequency of service interruption. Ebeling (1997) concluded that availability is the
important index of the all indices for power availability. Several maintenance types or tactics have
been suggested by many authors for example (Mowbray, 1991 and Kelly, 1997). There are mainly two
types of maintenance practices and these are breakdown and preventive maintenance. Breakdown
maintenance requires replacement of damaged part of the equipment during unscheduled maintenance
while preventive maintenance requires replacement of the components at pre determined intervals.
Condition based maintenance is used to monitor the condition of the equipment using condition
monitoring technique.
There is a general belief that corrective maintenance is less economical than preventive maintenance,
and all failures can then be prevented. This approach to preventive maintenance firstly wastes a lot of
resources in doing unnecessary tasks which will not improve equipment or system availability and
secondly it is potentially risk (Tsang,1995).Principal argument in favour of detailed and integrated

identifications of the modernist architecture as well as legend in the history of design and design

What unique about the Bauhaus is the fact that its ideologies epitomize changing concepts concerning

It is mentioned that (BAUHAUS, eds. Jeannine Fiedler, Peter Feierabend, pg.88), given the numerous
extant illustrations of modern architecture, by the fact that, contrary to their captions and picture tiles,
which continually refer to man and the conditions of his life, people are very rarely seen in the
photographs. This absence of people in the buildings and individual rooms illustrated, accords
precisely with the program of architectural modernism, in which laws are more often to be found
showing themselves than living beings and in which the name of the creators tend to be more
important than the men and women who occupied the building and had to live in them day in and day
out. Bauhaus architecture is supposed to convey authoritative experiences, but were impervious to any
rational argument or other objections. Hence, these rooms and houses existed not for actual people but
rather for ideal beings, which was the reason why the designers had to be regarded somewhat as
geniuses of social awareness. Incidentally this also marks the limits of what was at the time, and in
part still is today, the customary scope of functionalist or even ergonomic

Measurements in Boundary Layer Flows
Abstract: In this experiment, the velocity profile for a flat plate at zero pressure gradient of a boundary
layer at two different stream wise points were acquired. The investigation was also based on and how
changes in Reynolds number affect the velocity distribution within boundary layers. Parameters such
as the Momentum Thickness, Displacement Thickness, Shape Factor, shear stress and coefficient of
friction was also calculated to gain a better understand of boundary layers. The experimental values
calculated were compared to the theoretical Blasius for laminar flow and Power Law Solutions for

[5] The boundary layer can also be measured by other factors. One factor is the Displacement
Thickness, δ*. It is defined as the distance by which the free streamlines are displaced in the y
direction due to the formation of the boundary layer. The formation of the boundary layer reduces the
mass flow rate per unit area. This is because near the surface the molecules are travelling slower,
meaning less flow rate per unit area is going out compared to coming in. In order to compensate for
this loss in mass flow rate, the external streamlines (free streamlines) will be displaced. The distance it
displaced is the δ*. [5] When deriving this equation it is assumed the flow is incompressible and
steady. Another factor is the Momentum Thickness, Ï´. It is defined as the thickness of a layer of
freestream fluid carrying a momentum flow rate equal to the reduction in momentum flow rate caused
by the formation of the boundary layer. Closer to the surface of the object, the flow is slower. This
means that the momentum is also slower. Ï´ is a measurement of the compensation that makes us the
momentum flow rate that was lost due to the formation of the boundary layer. The momentum
thickness is useful in determining the skin friction drag on a surface. [5] When deriving this equation
it is assumed the flow is incompressible and steady. Momentum Thickness is an indication of Drag.

In the course of the fifteenth century, the Portuguese developed the caravel, a small, light, three
masted sailing ship. Though somewhat slower than the galley, the caravel held more cargo and was
highly maneuverable. When fitted with a cannon, it could dominate larger vessels, such as the round
ships commonly used in commerce (Buckler 501 502). With the caravel, the Portuguese had the
advantage over other ships in trade and were able to reach new parts of the world. The utilization of
cannons and their compatibility with ships also gave Europeans a distinct advantage at sea. Although
cannons posed serious technical difficulties for land warfare, they could be used at sea. The mounting
of cannon on ships and improved techniques of shipbuilding gave impetus to European expansion
(Buckler 501). The use of cannons eliminated many of the dangers that explorers without cannons
might have, such as pirates or warships of hostile countries. But the technological advancements used
in European exploration expanded far beyond weaponry. Instruments such as the compass and the
nocturnal were essential in voyages. In fact, Christopher Columbus s successful thirty three day
voyage to the Caribbean owed a great deal to his seamanship and his knowledge and skillful use of
instruments (Buckler 506). Even skilled sailors like Columbus needed the advancements in technology

Religious Views Of The Hippopotamus
ENG 380a
Prof. Vladimir Levchev
Arman Boyajyan The Hippopotamus: T.S.Eliot s Religious Views
Eliot s poem The Hippopotamus is concentrated on the differences and similarities between the
hippopotamus and a church. He chose this animal to make the comparison because he founds that the
animal has a lot of similarities with the church. He wants to make clear the characteristics of the
hippopotamus. The characteristics are not that every other animal has. It is the best to learn those
characteristics, as a person can do something through by learning a skill that another person can t. I
would personally advise students to have a goal and to do everything to reach them.
The poem is unique, as the formal structure of it is separate and not similar to any other structure. The

The poem does not criticize the religion, as he respects each of the religion and wants to just express
his thoughts about how he thinks the church is similar to the hippopotamus. He wants to make clear

The idea of this poem concentrates on the thoughts of the features of the hippopotamus. That it is a
strong animal, it may have difficulties, but it is a strong and he will prove that he can use his features
for the right purposes. The poem is unique, as the formal structure of it is separate and not similar to

Research Essay on Southeast Asia
IH202: Southeast Asia: The Rice that Binds? Research Essay (10%) The definition of the phrase
Settlement pattern is associated with the understanding of how a particular society used the available
resources in its region. The phrase can also be described as the actual land upon which a settlement is
built. So what exactly is the pattern of settlements in Southeast Asia? Some say that the pattern of
human settlement in Southeast Asia is dispersed settlements where buildings are spread out; an
example would be the rural areas of Philippines, where different villages are at different parts of the
country. Others say that it s more like linear settlements that grow in a line, often alongside roads,
river valleys or the coast, for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This not only makes similar settlers more comfortable to fit in but it also makes the community more
bonded. Climate also affects settlement patterns in numerous ways. Colder countries tend to have
lesser population than warmer countries. For example, Alaska has the smallest population in the
United States. Extreme climate conditions may play a role too, Sometimes it is even impossible to
inhabit that area, due to the weather conditions. A land s geographical location can determine whether
an area has higher risk of experiencing an earthquake or not. Singapore is considered very blessed as
her geographical location is very well shielded by other larger countries like Malaysia and Indonesia.
Furthermore, we do not sit on the earthquake belt. However Japan and Indonesia are less fortunate, as
they are located right on the earthquake belt and are constantly experiencing earthquake every now
and then. If your settlement is located nearby to a river, there will be a reliable source of food and
transportation which adds to the land s desirability. Some people are drawn to coastal areas as these
areas offer a number of recreational activities, such as surfing or wakeboarding and access to water
transportation. Maybe they also appreciate the value of waterfront property. In this essay, I have come
to the conclusion that Southeast Asia has more than one pattern of settlements. Instead, it has three,
namely, the dispersal settlement, the linear settlement and the nucleated

Eye Surgery Research Paper
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (Colorado Springs, Colorado) Vision Institute announces the addition
of Dr. Timothy Reese OD to the Colorado Springs Optometry practice. Dr. Reese, an optometrist,
brings many years of experience to the practice and is currently accepting new patients. As the eye
contains more than two million working parts, individuals need to ensure they receive regular care,
and the Colorado Springs Eye Doctors ensure this care is received in a timely manner. The addition of
Dr. Reese allows the practice to see more patients promptly. Of Americans over the age of 40,

Many myths exist concerning the eyes and proper care. For example, easing carrots will help an
individual have good eyesight, yet many other factors also play a role in the health of one s eyes.
Sitting too close to the television won t hurt the eyes either, although many believe doing so will
damage their eyesight. When visiting an optometrist, it s best to discuss any concerns you may have
about your eyes. Your doctor examines the eyes and can provide you individualized information that
will be of benefit to you. Although you may be experiencing one or more problems similar to those a
friend or family member is, your body is unique, thus you need information specific to you, and your
optometrist can provide that information, Dr. Simmons continues. Understanding the difference
between an optometrist and an opthalmologist is of great importance. An optometrist conducts full
vision exams and prescribes eyeglasses and contact lenses, among other things. He or she may also
provide medical optometry services. An opthalmologist sees patients in need of medical eye treatment
and surgeries. Vision Institute employs doctors of both types to best meet the needs of their

The Motif In Rhodopis And The Egyptian Cinderella Story
Throughout the world, there are hundreds of Cinderella stories from many different cultures on Earth.
Each Cinderella story around the world connects to the culture it originates in, based on their political,
economical, and religious beliefs, as well as their location and their achievements, like the Cinderella
story from France, and Rhodopis (the Egyptian Cinderella story). Furthermore, according to the
Egyptian (actually Greek) Rhodopis and the French Cinderella, both are similar in a way where the
motif damsel in distress , reveals the culture it originates from through the social necessity of social
classes.
In this case, the French Cinderella damsel in distress motif reveals that the story originated in France.

The damsel in distress in the Egyptian Cinderella story is a young woman who is a slave to a rich
master. Rhodopis is always being made fun of and forced to do all the hard work of her fellow servant
girls, just because she is different and beautiful. I know this, because the story claims that, They would
tease her and make fun of her, . They made sure that she did all the work, like, washing clothes,
weeding the garden, and making their food for them, par. 2. This punishment is unfair for Rhodopis,
which shows the damsel in distress motif in the Egyptian story as well. Rhodopis got captured by
pirates, and sold as a slave, according to the story. This was very common in Ancient Egypt, because
there was a need for somebody to do the housekeeping work for rich people who had government
posts and couldn t do the work. All of the wealth in Egypt came from the crops that slaves/farmers
would grow to make money, which was given to the nobles to distribute to the people and give to the
Pharaoh. Without the slaves, there would be no crops, and without crops, there would be no money.
Because of this, the author of Rhodopis altered the story to make the damsel in distress motif fit in
with the Egyptian social necessity of

Evaluation Of The Internship Project Essay
Analysis of the Internship Project This evidence based project focused on the creation of a rubric for
simulation experiences in the baccalaureate program at WKU. To become familiar with the different
uses of simulation and its evaluation within the nursing realm, completion of a comprehensive review
of the literature occurred. Hence, the search included the use of Google Scholar, PubMed, and
EBSCOhost databases to aid with the search of pertinent literature. Identifying keywords selected for
the search were nursing simulation, nursing simulation evaluation, and nursing simulation rubrics.
Published articles chosen for review fell between the years of 2010 and 2015. Afterwards, a review of
the curriculum learning objectives as outlined in the syllabus for the Senior Practicum course
established specific course needs for the rubric. Specifically, this outlined list of objectives requires
the student to recall knowledge, comprehension, and understanding of human homeostasis and disease
processes within the nursing construct. During the simulation, the student applies the recalled material
to care for the patient from the most basic level to the highest level of need. Following the review of
curriculum objectives, the writer conducted an analysis of the Quality and Safety Education for Nurses
(QSEN) standards. Charged responsibilities of the professional nurse include providing care that is
patient centered and evidence based, collaborating effectively with other

How Did The Pilgrims Help African Americans
The Pilgrims were a group of people who traveled from England. During their trip, they encountered
many adversities and misfortunes. Thankfully, they landed safely. The first few days were tough for
them. Imagine going to an unfamiliar place knowing that once you leave your homeland there will be
nothing on the other side. These people felt that and were very scared. The Pilgrims suffered a lot in
the first months. People were sick and helpless. The people were dying. Their only solution was to
seek help. The Pilgrims took advantage of the help the Native Americans wanted to offer. The Native
Americans were really smart people. They had a lot of knowledge about the land. This was their land,
and they wanted to teach the Pilgrims how to survive.

The Importance Of An Official Language
America does not have an official language and it does not need one. In his article Why the U.S.
Needs an Official Language, Mauro Mujica provides the pros and cons to having an official language.
The problem with having an official language is greater than the savings that would result from
requiring official documents to be only in one language. Establishing English as the official language
presents a moral issue that contradicts American beliefs and values. An English only culture conflicts
with the notion of a free country based on the guarantee of freedom of speech, the value of diversity
rooted in the idea that America is an nation of immigrants, and would in the end divide rather than
bring together the nation. Although some believe that having an official language would benefit the
U.S. economically, this would actually cause distress to immigrants. Mauro Mujica lists the cost of
multilingualism, and states that for instance, Los Angeles county spends $3.3 million to print election
ballots in seven languages, Medicare or Medicaid must pay $500 dollars per translator, and says
workers that speak little English cost cities and states a large amount in misunderstandings
(Mujica,174 175). However, the analysis of cost overlooks the value of translators. For example, In
one of my classes yesterday a student had a seizure and only the students that spoke his language were
able to assist. When the seizure began no one around him could communicate with him.

  • 3. Infectious Disease Personal Statement My interest in Infectious disease began even before entering residency half way across the world in the unique country of Nepal. Nepal is rich in natural beauty with breath taking landscapes, diverse culture but is also one of the most impoverished. I had the privilege to witness first hand how the dedicated physicians living there do the most with less in one of the most remotest parts of Nepal. Majority of the cases were infectious in nature with differentials including organisms not as prevalent in the US: tuberculosis, typhoid, dengue, malaria, brucellosis and leptospirosis to name a few. What the physicians lacked in resources, they made up their close attention to detail in both the history and the thoroughness of their physical exam. My interest further developed during my residency years where I had the pleasure of working with seasoned infectious disease attendings and was exposed to an array of pathology... even seeing a handful of extremely rare ... I take pride and enjoyment in teaching and mentoring my fellow interns and rotating medical students: be it through formal daily attending rounds or in a more intimate capacity as 1 on 1 tutoring of my peers who feel that infectious disease is not their strongpoint. The ideal program for me I feel is the one that maintains a good balance between clinical and academic aspects of infectious disease. I seek a program that serves a wide and diverse populace accompanied by wide array of pathology of varying complexity, emphasizes the importance of education, critical thinking, evidence based medicine, gives some aspect autonomy allowing its fellows to develop as independent clinicians and is supported by a dedicated faculty which will help guide me in whichever career path in infectious disease I may wish to ... This case analysis evaluates Chick fil A. It is designed to show the Strength, weakness, opportunities and threat. It delineates how the founding principles have guided the company over the years, and how it has responded slowly to change over the years. CFA has grown to be a force to reckon with in the industry with strength in customer experience and sandwich trademark. CFA s customers spans through the entire population spectrum, however, it focuses on family. The high expectations by CFA are obviously because of the need to preserve the founding heritage and culture. As CFA strives to be the best quick service restaurant , key external factors affect CFA. Demographics is a major threat, this includes race, age and gender. CFA is family oriented and believes in marriage, but a comment he made on this issue earned him a bad publicity. However, that created an opportunity in the Christian community. Despite the harm of this factor, revenue went up same year. His adherence to his principles proved to people that CFA would not downplay its core values. Another threat are rivalry and intense competitors. The industry is a 120 million dollar industry with about 50 percent offering the hamburger entrees. (hoovers.com 2008). Some of these competitors are KFC, Subway, Burger King, McDonalds and Taco Bell. New entrants is a threat to CFA, example is Oporto who just made its way into the United States. In the article A Terrible Evil : Edgar Allan Poe Writes About His Wife s Illness and Death by Rebecca Onion it states, Again in about a year afterward. Then again again again even once again at varying intervals. Each time I felt all the agonies of her death and at each accession of the disorder I loved her more dearly clung to her life with more desperate pertinacity. The love that he had for his wife caused him to be in pain when ever she was ill which is a downside of live that he writes about. Since this film was produced in 1949, after World War 2, it reflected the social fears and cultural changes that have plagued people during post war. Before the war, there was the ideology of the strong American family. This family portrayed strong values such as happiness, hardworking, and optimism. However during post war, there was a shade of darkness as fear, greed and evil lurking. Limes faked his own death and kills someone else to take his place. His death caused emotional distress for people that care about him. His death caused people like Holly, to go around the town trying to solve his murder case while leaving his mistress, Anna to be heart broken. Limes also continues to puts innocent children into hospitals because of his diluted penicillin. This relates back to the moral corruption of both CIA and KGB spies. Both parties were performing acts of espionage to gather intel on each other. Although these spies weren t selling on the black market, they were putting their families under emotional distress as well as possibly tearing families apart. Despite Lime s lack of family members shown in the film, Anna and Holly were the closest he had to family. Additionally, the paranoia of spies possibly being your next door neighbor, installed fear into normal citizens. Knowing that spies were living among other citizens caused panic and anxiety to many. It s located just outside Oswiecim, Poland. The original reason of establishment was that the mass arrests of Poles were too much for the capacity of local prisons. Eventually, it became the largest death camp of the Holocaust. Auschwitz covered about 40 square miles and had more than 40 sub camps within a several hundreds kilometer radius. The camp consisted of 22 prewar brick barracks buildings. The first prisoners at the camp were mostly Poles. In 1940, there were about 8,000 people registered. • 8. Why Creationism Should Not Be Taught in Public Schools... A hotly debated topic concerning public schools centers on the origin of life. Now more than ever, science and religion are butting heads. What should public schools teach to their students? Alex Rainert reasons that both science and religion are engaged in the same project, to discover the origin of life (141). In short, one could better describe the debate as a crusade between evolutionists and creationists; both sides have their well founded arguments, but when one looks at the decisions of the courts, clearly only one side may win the battle when deciding biology curriculum in schools. Despite an overwhelming number of individuals in favor of teaching creationism in public education, science classes should refrain from becoming a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Otherwise, teaching creationism encroaches upon separation of church and state. Certainly many Americans in favor of teaching both theories may do so for the sake of imparting critical thinking skills to our schoolchildren. Costley and Killins agree with this notion, emphasizing that true academics teaches schoolchildren alternate theories as well as analytical thinking (5). As a result, creationists weigh in heavily at schools, compelling them to introduce other scientific theories dealing with the origin of life (Raymo 152). In this regard, when it applies to all area of academics, many more people would agree. Teaching only one theory on any matter seems indicative of a totalitarian form of education. Therefore, teachers should want to introduce students to as many alternative theories as possible. However, the dissenting theories they present must have factual ground on which to stand on. Since the theory of creationism stands on shaky ground scientifically, it should have no place in science education classes. Interestingly, Alex Rainert, a man in favor of teaching both creationism and evolution, states that evolution is as much a theory as the theory of plate tectonics or Einstein s theory of relativity. Yet, he explains, a campaign against those theories in courtrooms is, in essence, nonexistent (140). ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Even though it s just a two hour drive, I hate the part of waking up so early. Now comes the checking of the luggage; dog food, pillows, snacks, in the car activities. One trip, however changed everything. I moved back to sheridan when my grandpa got sick, and the two hour drive seemed like an eternity leaving everything I loved in Billings. That s when the journey mattered more than the destination, when the journey changes the importance of the destination. One way to look at how the important the journey is in comparison to the importance of the destination, is through the Odyssey. The whole epic is about the journey and how it changes the importance of the destination to Odysseus. • 11. The Reformation And Its Impact On The Early Modern Period The reformation was a drastic event in the early modern period that launched Europe into a massive conflict of widespread violence, through both political and religious factors. The political scene had remained very much the same before the beginning of the reformation in 1517, with many philosophers sharing similar ideas on how to handle the issues of sovereignty and private property. Religion was a long debated factor before the reformation however was brought inadvertently to the forefront of most political works in the early years of the Protestant Reformation. This event completely changed the way in which philosophers constructed their political discourse as seen with More and Martin Luther, who although despite being placed on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This shift from promoting an ideal Utopia in his work to openly and aggressively defending the Catholic Church is one of the first examples of the Reformations affect on changing political discourse from criticisms to open violent outbursts and pleas of aggression. Adding to this further is More s response to Tyndale in 1531, where More states the Reformation is a genuine danger to all of Catholic society4. More was eventually executed but stated I die the Kings faithful servant, but Gods First 5 revealing although More hated the Reformation, he had stood by his religious values, including his King, making his political writing still plausible in terms of how an authority, such as a monarch, could work hand in hand in a religious society. More s response to Tyndale and final words shows how much his own way of political discourse had shifted through the years of the reformation, as he had called for violence in the early years 1517, aggressively insulted protestant philosophers such as Luther, but had now consorted to reason. Therefore it can be concluded that many of the philosophers actions during the early years of the Reformation were shock reactions to this shift in power and apparent attack on the perceived Catholic state rather than a true change in political discourse, as many of the underlying religious opinions in political writing has been retained. • 13. Route 62 Poem In her poem Route 62, Helen Moffett paints a beautiful and powerful picture of the landscape in South Africa. However, the title evokes the image of a man made road familiar to many Americans. Nonetheless, Moffett carefully structures her poem and employs vivid language to clearly illustrate that human achievements and life, like the titular road, are ultimately insignificant in comparison to the durability of the long lasting mountains. Through intricate construction the poem, Moffett s form and tone reveals the timeless nature of the power of Earth and its elements. Route 62 is a free verse poem, reflecting how nature is free from any patterns mankind may want to impose on it. Moreover, the first few lines of the poem establishes a tranquil tone as the mountains are lying slumbering, evoking a peaceful image (2). As the mountains sleep, little action occurs, allowing them to match the static image many people would contemporarily associate mountains with. Furthermore, the heat of the landscape drapes its own spines and ribs (5). The metaphor of a skeleton reflects how the mountains are merely a shell of what they once were, as described in their formation. Nevertheless, this is not to say they are invariable nor no longer powerful. In a line that transitions between the mountains being described in the present with a serene tone, and the fierce tone that follows, the author says, history has folded these ranges (6). Rather than a photo being a photo, he told stories through his photographs, through a practice called photojournalism. His photographic projects depicted people in their everyday lives, but in different situations. The photographs he took did not hide anything that he saw from the audience no matter how graphic the scenery may appear to be. His photography methods differed from traditional methods, in that traditional photographs/photographic projects were a distortion of reality, so that it is more pleasing to the audience. However, a year later, Smith left the university, and went to study at New York Institute of Photography. In the same year, 1937, Gene was hired to work for Newsweek, where his first two photo assignments were to photograph the Rockettes at Radio City Hall and the other project was to photograph a medical operation. Many of the editors and other photographers at Newsweek were impressed by Smith s photographs, and he secured a job at Newsweek. His newfound employment fulfilled his goal of becoming a professional photojournalist. However, down the line he was to change the way he took photographs, which he obliged to at first; Smith was to use a larger camera, a tripod and the old fashioned open shutter technique whenever he needed flash (Hughes 49). He later decided that the smaller camera he used was better to take photographs, following his instincts Smith used his small camera rather than the larger one when taking his photographs, disregarding the orders from the editors at Newsweek; this decision caused him to be fired from his job. • 17. Loyalty And Loyalty For United Airline s Frequent Flyer... Loyalty While I m an atypical U.S. consumer who doesn t buy into marketing hype, I do have strong product/service loyalty affiliations. I ll try to keep my Journal entry under 1000 words! I like to revisit the meaning of familiar words. Merriam Webster (n.d.) defines loyalty as, The quality or state or an instance of being loyal . This is exactly what brand loyalty and loyalty programs are trying to create: an ongoing experience with multiple touch points that captures followers and keeps them engaged through rewards, added value, and prestige . The goal is to lengthen the lifetime value of the customer (Tanner Raymond, 2010, p. 284) which helps to maximize profits. My Loyalties For some brands, my loyalty grew from happenstance and remains so because of switching costs. United Airline s frequent flyer program, called Premiere is one example, more so, since their spreader effect enticed me into a United branded credit card that awards flight miles for every purchase. I didn t set out to join United s loyalty program because I thought their service was better, or they had lower airfares, it s because they have a hub in San Francisco that offers the most flight options when I m traveling by air for business. For other products, affinity is a result of my family s subtle influence, and probably why I favor Coke over Pepsi. Critical Success Factors Of A Firm s Performance Critical success factors are measures of those aspects of a firm s performance that are essential to its competitive advantage and, therefore, to its success (Blocher, Stout, Juras, Cokins, 2013). One of the original uses of Critical Success Factors as a concept is by McKinsey and Company in Boston during the 1950s to determine how a corporation should compete in each of its many business units (Isakson Sircar, 1990). As can be seen by the above quote, for a company in the real estate business all of these critical success factors are either dependent upon or relate to the service provided by the firm. If a company is not providing the level or type of service which consumers are demanding, then none of the critical success factors mentioned above will show a positive position or future for the company. A generational change in the needs and wants of consumers in the real estate business has caused the growth of what the traditional service providers are calling hybrids, such as Redfin, Help A Sell, and Xome, which provide services to consumers that focus heavily on technological innovation and cutting cost for their customers (Inman, 2015). [5] The boundary layer can also be measured by other factors. One factor is the Displacement Thickness, δ*. It is defined as the distance by which the free streamlines are displaced in the y direction due to the formation of the boundary layer. The formation of the boundary layer reduces the mass flow rate per unit area. This is because near the surface the molecules are travelling slower, meaning less flow rate per unit area is going out compared to coming in. In order to compensate for this loss in mass flow rate, the external streamlines (free streamlines) will be displaced. The distance it displaced is the δ*. [5] When deriving this equation it is assumed the flow is incompressible and steady. Another factor is the Momentum Thickness, Ï´. It is defined as the thickness of a layer of freestream fluid carrying a momentum flow rate equal to the reduction in momentum flow rate caused by the formation of the boundary layer. Closer to the surface of the object, the flow is slower. This means that the momentum is also slower. Ï´ is a measurement of the compensation that makes us the momentum flow rate that was lost due to the formation of the boundary layer. Yet he did not receive the same way out, he was too cowardly and proud to take his own life, Jones was killed by one of his followers with a single gunshot to the back of the head (Jim Jones 2014). He died that day with his followers, with no punishment. The families of members of the cult will never have closure, no justice for those who had been killed. The biggest misconception about Jonestown is that it was a mass suicide, when in reality it was a mass murder, said a reporter that survived the shooting. Reverend Jim Jones had no punishment, he instead had himself killed. One thousand members were held imprisoned, 913 people killed, 270 of which are innocent children (Jim Jones Bio). Jim Jones was never punished for his crime, not to say he did not deserve to die, but Jones was never caught. With only a gunshot wound to the head, Jones died with his followers that day because it was his choice to die( Jonestown: Nightmare in Paradise). • 37. European Exploration Dbq Essay While documents written by explorers may state that their voyages were done in the name of God, religion was not the main motive for European exploration. Other motives included the European economy and new developments in technology. The European economy was the primary motive for European explorers to voyage and conquer the unknowns. In the words of David Arnold, gold, jewels, silks, carpets, spices, and porcelain suggested luxury, wealth, skilled artisans and thriving craft industries, and it was this image of Africa and Asia s riches that helped inspire the first European voyages of discovery (Arnold 11). Europe could essentially see the wealth of the countries that manufactured the goods that Europe received and wanted the same wealth ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the course of the fifteenth century, the Portuguese developed the caravel, a small, light, three masted sailing ship. Though somewhat slower than the galley, the caravel held more cargo and was highly maneuverable. When fitted with a cannon, it could dominate larger vessels, such as the round ships commonly used in commerce (Buckler 501 502). With the caravel, the Portuguese had the advantage over other ships in trade and were able to reach new parts of the world. The utilization of cannons and their compatibility with ships also gave Europeans a distinct advantage at sea. Although cannons posed serious technical difficulties for land warfare, they could be used at sea. The mounting of cannon on ships and improved techniques of shipbuilding gave impetus to European expansion (Buckler 501). The use of cannons eliminated many of the dangers that explorers without cannons might have, such as pirates or warships of hostile countries. But the technological advancements used in European exploration expanded far beyond weaponry. Instruments such as the compass and the nocturnal were essential in voyages. In fact, Christopher Columbus s successful thirty three day voyage to the Caribbean owed a great deal to his seamanship and his knowledge and skillful use of instruments (Buckler 506). Even skilled sailors like Columbus needed the advancements in technology to be fully ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 39. Research Essay on Southeast Asia IH202: Southeast Asia: The Rice that Binds? Research Essay (10%) The definition of the phrase Settlement pattern is associated with the understanding of how a particular society used the available resources in its region. The phrase can also be described as the actual land upon which a settlement is built. So what exactly is the pattern of settlements in Southeast Asia? Some say that the pattern of human settlement in Southeast Asia is dispersed settlements where buildings are spread out; an example would be the rural areas of Philippines, where different villages are at different parts of the country. Others say that it s more like linear settlements that grow in a line, often alongside roads, river valleys or the coast, for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This not only makes similar settlers more comfortable to fit in but it also makes the community more bonded. Climate also affects settlement patterns in numerous ways. Colder countries tend to have lesser population than warmer countries. For example, Alaska has the smallest population in the United States. Extreme climate conditions may play a role too, Sometimes it is even impossible to inhabit that area, due to the weather conditions. A land s geographical location can determine whether an area has higher risk of experiencing an earthquake or not. Singapore is considered very blessed as her geographical location is very well shielded by other larger countries like Malaysia and Indonesia. Furthermore, we do not sit on the earthquake belt. However Japan and Indonesia are less fortunate, as they are located right on the earthquake belt and are constantly experiencing earthquake every now and then. If your settlement is located nearby to a river, there will be a reliable source of food and transportation which adds to the land s desirability. Some people are drawn to coastal areas as these areas offer a number of recreational activities, such as surfing or wakeboarding and access to water transportation. Maybe they also appreciate the value of waterfront property. In this essay, I have come to the conclusion that Southeast Asia has more than one pattern of settlements. Instead, it has three, namely, the dispersal settlement, the linear settlement and the nucleated ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Rhodopis is always being made fun of and forced to do all the hard work of her fellow servant girls, just because she is different and beautiful. I know this, because the story claims that, They would tease her and make fun of her, . They made sure that she did all the work, like, washing clothes, weeding the garden, and making their food for them, par. 2. This punishment is unfair for Rhodopis, which shows the damsel in distress motif in the Egyptian story as well. Rhodopis got captured by pirates, and sold as a slave, according to the story. This was very common in Ancient Egypt, because there was a need for somebody to do the housekeeping work for rich people who had government posts and couldn t do the work. All of the wealth in Egypt came from the crops that slaves/farmers would grow to make money, which was given to the nobles to distribute to the people and give to the Pharaoh. Without the slaves, there would be no crops, and without crops, there would be no money. Because of this, the author of Rhodopis altered the story to make the damsel in distress motif fit in with the Egyptian social necessity of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 47. The Importance Of An Official Language America does not have an official language and it does not need one. In his article Why the U.S. Needs an Official Language, Mauro Mujica provides the pros and cons to having an official language. The problem with having an official language is greater than the savings that would result from requiring official documents to be only in one language. Establishing English as the official language presents a moral issue that contradicts American beliefs and values. An English only culture conflicts with the notion of a free country based on the guarantee of freedom of speech, the value of diversity rooted in the idea that America is an nation of immigrants, and would in the end divide rather than bring together the nation. Although some believe that having an official language would benefit the U.S. economically, this would actually cause distress to immigrants. Mauro Mujica lists the cost of multilingualism, and states that for instance, Los Angeles county spends $3.3 million to print election ballots in seven languages, Medicare or Medicaid must pay $500 dollars per translator, and says workers that speak little English cost cities and states a large amount in misunderstandings (Mujica,174 175). However, the analysis of cost overlooks the value of translators. For example, In one of my classes yesterday a student had a seizure and only the students that spoke his language were able to assist. When the seizure began no one around him could communicate with him. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
