My First Lesson On The Battle Of Lexington And Concord
This week I only attended three days for block teaching. Monday was Columbus Day so the school
was closed and everyone had the day off. Friday I did not attend because it was fall break for WIU so I
decided to go home for the weekend. On Tuesday the students worked on Cornell notes for several
headings in their textbook. Then on Wednesday I taught my first lesson on the battles of Lexington
and Concord. The students analyzed two primary source documents then as a class we discussed their
similarities and differences. The lesson went well despite the fact that two thirds of the class was
missing due to state testing. The fact that majority of the class made me worried for the lesson I
prepared for the following day because the two lessons were designed to match up. However, I was
pleasantly surprised that Thursday s lesson went as smoothly as it did. The students stayed on task and
were focused so I did not have really any issues with classroom management. Since this week was
short and I taught two out of the three days I was present my teacher didn t have much involvement
with his class. On Thursday when one student was getting a big rowdy before class due to an
argument my mentor pulled him into the hallway to address the situation. I believe my best classroom
management skills were displayed during my Wednesday lesson. Due to majority of the class being
missing I got the vibe that the students who were present thought of it as a free day. I had one student

ASDA acquired and retained customers by providing a broad assortment of quality merchandise and
services at low prices. Wal Mart s Everyday Low Price policy (EDLP) had gained ASDA the title of
British best value supermarket for 7 successive years. In 2004, it offered around 25,000 lines of food
and non food. ASDA, as all other subsidiaries of Wal Mart Stores Inc., was ruled by three basic
beliefs: respect for individuals, service to customers, and striving for excellence. These rules were
established by Sam Walton (1992). Walton also claimed that the success of building the company
could be pinned down into 10 rules that were still true for the company in 2004. These rules were (for
details of these rules, refer to http:// www.walmart.com): (1) Commit to your business. Believe in it
more than anybody else; (2) Share your profits with all your associates, and treat them as partners; (3)
Motivate your partners; (4) Communicate everything you possibly can to your partners; (5) Appreciate
everything your associates do for the business; (6) Celebrate your successes; (7) Listen to everyone in
your company; (8) Exceed your customers expectations; (9) Control your expenses better than your
competition; and (10) Swim upstream. Go the other way.

Three Principal Meetings that Led to the Adoption of the Constitution of the United States There were
three principal meetings that led to the adoption of the Constitution of the United States, and only two
Virginians attended all three. The meetings were the Mount Vernon Conference of 1785, the Annapolis
Convention of 1786 and the Philadelphia Convention in 1787. James Madison was one attendee, and
he is well known as the Father of the Constitution and our fourth President. George Mason was the

This work by Mason is cited often in the literature, although the reason for its inclusion appears to be
his tirade renouncing the tradition of slavery. However, beyond a brief mention of the evils of slavery
in the opening paragraph, the true value of this document is the description of a scheme to avoid
Stamp Act taxation while retaining security in bonds and rents. This intricate plan was never
implemented as the Stamp Act was repealed shortly afterward. The British Parliament adopted the
Townshend Acts 1767, the colonies responded by adopting non importation associations, and George
Mason s hand was to be found in those documents. The Virginia Nonimportation Resolutions were
modeled after the original resolve of Philadelphia merchants. Scholars argue over whether this was the
sole work of Mason, or whether he merely served on the committee. Nevertheless, on April 5th, 1769,
George Washington forwarded copies of the Philadelphia resolution to George Mason. That same day,
George Mason dispatched his reply to Washington, expressing Mason s thoughts at implementation of
the plan. The important element of this exchange is that Mason was already in possession of the plan
when Washington forwarded duplicates. Mason explained that he was ...inclosing the Resolves of the

To The Memory Of Some I Knew Who Are Dead And Who Loved...
The Easter Rising of 1916 occurred in Ireland in the midst of World War One, and the two events are
closely entwined. Many Irish people initially struggled to reconcile the politics of Irish nationalism
with Irish contributions to World War One. George Russell was one of the first to attempt to offer an
equal commemoration of both events. In 1917, Russell published his poem To the Memory of Some I
Knew Who are Dead and Who Loved Ireland in the Irish Times. This poem was a revised version of
Salutation, which Russell had written to commemorate the rebels of the Easter Rebellion. In the
revised version, Russell interspersed each stanza about the rebels with stanzas about Irish soldiers.
Russell unites these two great losses and their ideologies. He reveals the shared struggle in the trauma
of both events, forming the foundation for a collective memory and shared Irish identity. To the

Easter Rising through commemoration ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many Irish opposed the actions of the National Volunteers, the group promoting Irish nationalism and
a small faction of who were responsible for the Rebellion. Resistance of British rule seemed
inappropriate to many during the war. In Myths and Memories of the Easter Rising, Jonathan Githens
Mazer states that opinion hardened against the Volunteers over the entire course of the Rising,
especially because it brought fighting to Dublin. He notes that women, particularly poor women,
disliked the Volunteers, because many...had husbands and relations fighting for the British on the
continent. For those losing family and friends to the war, their focus remained on the war effort and

Advantages And Cons Of Outsourcing
2.1 Outsourcing
Kamensky and Morales (2006, 45) define outsourcing as a management strategy that contracts out
organizational activities to vendors or suppliers who specialize in these activities in order to perform
them more efficiently and effectively. Outsourcing is defined as the practice of turning over entire
business functions to an outside vendor that can supposedly can perform the specialized tasks better
and less expensively than the organization choosing to outsource. Outsourcing differs from
privatization in that outsourcing, the work load is shifted from in house government providers to the
private sector, but no transfer or sale of assets has occurred. Outsourcing needs the government to
remain fully responsible for the provision of all services and management decisions. Other
transactions include direct vendor delivery, hiring long term trained staff, etc.

this method assists the government to achieve all desired goals of reengineering, restructuring, right

other functions to other sectors to distribute other services and tasks.

2.5 REVIEWS ON RFID IN WAREHOUSE
The RFID system mainly includes three parts: reader, antenna, and RFID tag, as shown. Because of
the uniqueness of the RFID tag, the reader can locate and track the target once it is attached on an
RFID tag. Passive tags are used to attach on the target object because they are much cheaper, long
lived, lightweight and have a smaller foot print. The reader can communicated with host computer
through RS232.
1. An RFID interrogator, or more often called an RFID reader, is a RF transmitting and receiving
device used to communicate with an RFID Tag. The device was named an interrogator because it
interrogates the tags. The term reader is a more colloquial term, but is sometimes misleading in that
many of these devices also have the ability to encode, or write information to an RFID Tag. A reader
basically acts as an RF sensor because it can communicate with RFID tags that are within its range
and is designed to interface with an information process system.

The control system of the automated warehouse include management/monitor computer, master PLC

multilevel computer monitoring system, as shown in Figure 2.2. The whole automated warehouse
system integrated cargo storage, retrieval, distribution and transportation together, realizes intelligence

Pacific Bluefin Tuna Research Paper
A single Pacific bluefin tuna sells at auction for more than $100,000 (Arnold, 2012). The Pacific
bluefin tuna is one of the most popular fish consumed in the world eaten mainly in sushi. In 2010
alone, the United States consumed twenty four percent of the tuna consumed by the entire population.
Due to its increasing growth in popularity the demand for wild bluefin tuna has caused the species to
drastically decline to about 2 percent of its original percent population causing it to become
endangered. Due to the drop in the amount of wild bluefin tuna left there have been serious changes to
the ocean s ecosystem. The Pacific blue fin tuna is one of the top predators in the pacific oceans food
chain making it a tertiary consumer. For them to survive it must feed on the Ocean s secondary
consumers which are the anchovies, herring, etc. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Those secondary consumers will eventually take over the ocean but will die off as there is not enough
primary consumers such as crabs, shrimp, etc. for them all to eat however. After everyone has died

secondary, or primary consumers to regulate them they will explode in numbers. A disruption to the
ocean s pelagic system can be avoided if the bluefin tuna is available to regulate the secondary
consumers who regulate the primary consumers who regulate the producers, every organism will play
an important role in making sure there is balance so if the bluefin tuna is gone the others will also be
affected. The ocean s marine pelagic system can be salvaged by considering sustainable sushi and

Spread Of Islamic Ethics
Islamic standards of moral conduct are specified in the shari ah. Muslims practice this by reciting the
first three verses of the al Fatihah, which is the opening to the Qur an. Islamic ethics is characterized
as the straight path of kindness that leads to the source of life. The path is lived out by Muslims by
practicing the five pillars. The five pillars are; Shahada, the profession of faith, Salat, ritual prayer five
times daily, Zakat, giving reasons to help others, Sawm, spiritual discipline to fasting, and the Hajj,

to Christian s teachings as Christians are encouraged to turn the other cheek. They also believe to that
they must give due regard to nonhuman creatures. Contrary to unpopular beliefs, the Qur an and the

as peace, forgiveness, balance, kindness, and humility. They forbid adultery, exploitation of orphans,

Simone De Beauvoir And Frantz Fanon
Simone de Beauvoir and Frantz Fanon were both interested in the experiences of marginalized groups,
women and black men respectively. In The Second Sex, De Beauvoir discusses the history of
domination women have experienced at the hands of the superior group, men. In Black Skin, White
Masks, Fanon explains and analyzes the experiences of black men in the wake of colonialism and up
to modern times. Both authors not only address the ways in which women and black men are
dominated by others, but also the ways in which the oppressed group participates, often unknowingly,
in the systems of their own domination. According to De Beauvoir, women participate in their own

From birth, girls are taught that they are to act a certain way, and when they become women, they
perpetuate these norms by fulfilling them. We are exhorted to be women, remain women, become
women... , De Beauvoir writes, ...it would appear, then, that every female human being is not
necessarily a woman; to be so considered she must share in that mysterious and threatened reality
known as femininity . This femininity makes a female person a woman. For example, [a woman] must
become a passive thing, a promise of submission and, conversely, if [a woman] is proud and
demanding, woman meets the male as an adversary and is decidedly not feminine. Shut up in her
flesh, her home, she sees herself as passive before these gods with human faces who set goals and
establish values , and this acceptance and participation in traditional femininity perpetuates societal
beliefs that women, or at least acceptable women, are inferior naturally. By doing this, women
participate in the continuation of their domination by men, who society believes are more naturally
suited for superiority. Furthermore, The woman that does not conform devalues herself sexually, and
hence socially, since sexual values are an integral feature of society . This quote shows that, according
to De Beauvoir, women have little

Figure 1: A summary of the various types of Pukulan found in the Kompang Ezhar (Abdullah, 2005)
In Kompang, rhythm is mainly characterized by the interlocking of different parts divided within the
Kompang ensemble. Interlocking is basically done with two or more Kompangs playing
simultaneously, with one part playing the Basic beat which is usually the downbeats; another part
playing the Rhythm beat which is usually the off beats; and an additional part(s) playing the Leading
beat which is usually characterized by triplets or a syncopated rhythm that creates a unique
interlocking texture specific to the Malay Kompang musical genre (Hahril, 2010). In addition,
instrumentation is a musical element that is relatively fixed in Kompang; there is usually a group of
Kompangs playing together, and occasionally, accompanying voice.

This gives a valiant quality to the film and makes the audience feel good, too! The moment the titles
have finished, the music descends from a triumphant melody into eerie gloomy drone. Combined with
the music we are shown a crisp low angle shot of a full moon surrounded by darkness. Gradually the
camera zooms in from the sky and we see an insert shot of the barbed wire fence giving us an
impression of imprisonment. This is followed by an establishing shot of Mr. Tweedy and his dog. In
his hand he is holding a torch and patrolling the area, as they walk towards us we can hear the pitter
patter of the dog s feet. Followed by, an extreme close up of an ancient rusted padlock (obviously
keeping the fence locked). We are further focused on this as Mr. Tweedy shines his torch onto the
padlock and checks it is securely locked, as he drops the lock we hear the clank noise it makes as it
hits the fence. The focus on the lock reinforces the theme of imprisonment given previously from the
barbed wire. It is also an important element to the film as the audience has to believe that it is evil to
keep chickens locked up. The music has maintained its ominous characteristics. All these
presentational techniques have been used to create the idea that something important is imprisoned

At times families wish to adopt from the country of the family s own ethnic origin, or they may be
familiar with others who have successfully adopted overseas. The research also suggests that the
major reason families choose to adopt international is the manner in which most international
adoptions are conducted; a process that minimizes the threat that a child could be offered to potential
parents and then withdrawn. International birth parents transfer their parental rights to a third party
adoption agency or orphanage before the adoptive parents get involved in the process. This may not be
the case with domestic adoptions, mainly when a child is expected, but not yet born. Birth parents may
change their minds about adopting out their child during the period before the adoption is finalized

Thus, one can conclude that this can be a terrifying prospect for would be parents to contemplate, and
adoptive parents who wish to reduce this possibility may prefer international adoption or may

Midterm Essay Passing, by Nella Larsen
Passing, by Nella Larsen is a novel all about pretending to be something that you are not. It is about
giving everyone the impression that everything is in order when in reality everything is falling apart.
Passing in this novel refers to the ability of a person to be classified as one thing, normally a social
group, while belonging to a different group. Passing is usually done to gain class or acceptance by
groups other than one s own. The primary focus of the novel is on racial passing which is the ability to
look white and belong to a white group when in reality the person is an African American in order to
gain privileges that were unavailable to them. Although racial passing is the main focus, another major
theme in this novel is sexual passing and identity. Sexual passing refers to a person s ability to be
judged or viewed as a heterosexual person but in reality they are homosexual or bisexual. This was a
masked theme in the novel because in the early 1900 s, homosexuality was not something that was
accepted. Larsen made it aware that these were real problems in those times without coming out
directly and saying it. The main plot of Passing focuses on two light skinned black women, Irene
Redfield and her old time friend Clare Kendry. Both women can pass as white women. Irene who is
married to a successful African American doctor, passes only when it is

also known as gender stereotypes, are things to be considered appropriate to certain men or women
and we are constantly surrounded by them without even realizing it. Cultural gender roles in America
have changed over time, from when Disney animated films were first released. Women were only
housewives at those times, they were responsible for cooking, cleaning, taking care of their kids, and

Critical Analysis of a Sequence from FANTASIA Essay
Critical Analysis of a Sequence from FANTASIA
All of the animation that was used in Fantasia was hand drawn. The scene that we are analysing is the
first one right at the very beginning. This was when the elephants and hippos are floating on bubbles
and then one of the hippos lands on the floor on a bed, then the crocodiles come along.
The way that each and every one of the slides was so smooth was because they used a technique
which was very similar to ghosting that we now use on the computers except they traced each slide
onto a piece of tracing paper as well as normal paper, they would then place each one on top of the
other so that they would be able to see where all of the animations ... Show more content on

This would suggest to the viewer that the crocodiles are bad and evil. The hippos are more of a soft
brown colour which suggests that they are good and calm. Also the fact that the hippo was wearing a
pink tutu which suggests that she is sweet and innocent.
The shape of the crocodiles is much more tense and square than the hippo. When all of the crocodiles
surround the hippo they stand in a square, with their shoulders up. The crocodiles are much more
sharp and quick. They are also of a flat shape and everything is in 2D. The hippos are more of a round
and smooth shapes, also the bubbles that they float on are round with soft edges. A circle shape is used
for hippos to show that they are good and gentler.
There are many example of when shadows are used in this animation. The first time we really notice a
shadow is when the crocodiles are creeping along the wall. The shadows of the crocodiles are much
bigger than the crocodiles them selves. This would make them seem more frightening and evil. Also it
would make them seem more intimidating as they were up high looking down with a huge shadow
casting behind them. The spotlight that is on the hippo is circular to show the gentleness and the
goodness, but then this disappears when the crocodiles form a square around her. But when

Polyvagal Theory And The Nervous System Theory
who do not have BPD. It has been found that individuals with BPD reach arousal levels much faster
than others and take longer to get back to normal levels of arousal. Individuals with BPD appear to
constantly have some type of crisis and they tend to view things in very close minded ways which can
lead to intense feelings of their emotions. DBT teaches ways to cope with this. (Grohol, 2017). There
are 4 modules used in DBT to teach the skills to reduce symptoms of BPD. The first is mindfulness
(answering the question to themselves what do I do to be mindful ), the second is interpersonal
effectiveness (how you interact with the people around you and in your personal life), the third is
distress tolerance (most therapies focus on changing distressing events whereas DBT focuses on
learning to cope with pain using coping skills) and the fourth is emotion regulation (properly
identifying emotions and changing them). The Polyvagal Theory has to do with how we understand
the nervous system, our senses, our emotions and behaviors. This theory states that the nervous system
has its own set of strategies to regulate itself and to keep us safe in the events of danger. The theory
actually boils down to the idea of safety overall. The Polyvagal Theory also references the mechanism
social engagement which is the highest strategy in this theory. This has to do with connecting the
social muscles of the face (eyes, mouth and middle ear) with the heart. This system is

Designing A Traditional Stage Gate Development Process
1. Design thinking refers to creative and systematic problem solving. For example, at the beginning of
the semester we were instructed to create a tower made only out of the materials provided to us, that
would not only support the weight of a single marshmallow, but also be the tallest in the class and it
had to be able to stand entirely on its own. In order to create the contraption, our groups had to use
design thinking. The design thinking process goes through several stages: discover, define, create and
evaluate. The process is unique and differs from a traditional stage gate development process because
it is not restricted by a definitive order and can be accomplished using the four stages in different
orders. Additionally, since the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Additionally, marketers may use an unstable product spec and scope creep. This means that the
marketers might begin research and then start to make assumptions about what the consumer wants, so
they will rush into developing the product when there are still several unknowns, or the scope or
function of the product keeps changing. This, in turn, will lead to failure down the road because once
the product is on the market there may be reasons to backtrack and fix things that were hastily decided
upon. Next, a company may have dysfunctional product teams which essentially means that the
company is not working together effectively to ensure the success of the new product. Oftentimes, a
company will pass the product along to different sections without collaborating together which ends
up creating inconsistencies and dysfunctionality within the product launch. Another reason products
fail is because they have too many projects in the pipeline and lack focus. For example, if a company
is working on launching several new products and dedicates time to both, they will lose focus on each
idea and those products will suffer. Workers are stretched too thin and there ends up being flaws or
issues with the final product. Lastly, companies may not have the proper skills, competencies or
knowledge needed to create the product. The process might begin with a great idea, but if the right

Calorimetry Lab
This lab will determine the effect of temperature on the volume of gas when the pressure is constant.
Charles law states that the volume of a fixed amount of a gas at a constant pressure is directly
proportional its absolute temperature. The equation for this is V=bT; V is volume, T is temperature,
and b is a proportionality constant. The experiment proves that Charles law works. As the temperature
rises, the volume does as well and as the temperature decreases the volume decreases as well.
Procedure
Step 1: Obtain a gas syringe and set the volume to 20mL
Step2: Obtain a thermometer and record the temperature of the gas syringe.
Trial A: Record the volume and temperature of the gas.
Trial B: Obtain a 250mL beaker, add 200mL of ice water, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Discussion
One if the major findings from this experiment is that Charles law is accurate. As the temperature of
the water increased, the volume of the gas also increased. As the temperature on the thermometer
increased, the volume on the syringe visibly increased as well. When the temperature of the water was
decreased, the volume of the gas also decreased. As the temperature on the thermometer decreased,
the volume on the syringe can be seen decreasing. The experimental values and calculated values of
the volume were very close. They were slightly above or below the experimental volumes by a few
decimal points. In an actual laboratory, the experimenter would need to wear goggles, gloves, lab coat,
and fire extinguisher in case fire from the Bunsen burner. Any items or equipment that is not needed
for the experiment should be put away, especially flammable items, to reduce the chance of a fire.
There will also need to be a fire blanket to protect the experimenter if they come in physical contact
with the fire.

geographical feature that dominated the surrounding area, and securing it was the Canadian Corps
objective for the Arras campaign. The battle for Vimy took place from 9 12 April 1917, and resulted in

is mythically portrayed to possess superior qualities compared to the soldiers of allied armies. This
myth will be debunked using statistics, showing that Canadian soldiers were not markedly superior in
any quantitative way. Second, the myth that Vimy Ridge was an impregnable defence which
Canadians miraculously overcame will be scrutinized. Conversely, this study will show that the
German position was far from secure, greatly devaluing the ridge s mythical status. Third, the false
pretense that The Canadian Corps could achieve objectives that allied armies could not will be
evaluated. Rather, it will be demonstrated that there was no attempt to take the Ridge in the two years
prior to the Canadian assault of April 1917. Fourth, and perhaps most importantly, the myth that the
Canadian Corps would employ brand new, innovative tactics will be refuted with the evidence that
there was nothing innovative nor new about the tactics employed. Finally, this paper will provide an

The least thing a passenger wants to encounter when waiting for a flight is a delay. Delays and
cancellations in today s commercial flights have become the fear and shadow from anyone who

complaints at airline counters. Many factors could lead to a delay; weather and maintenance are the
most common. But, what is a customer suppose to do when encountering such mishap? What rights

Passenger Rights
In the United States, airlines are not compelled to compensate passengers if the flight is delayed or
cancelled. The truth is that some carriers deal with situations like this better than others and all of
them have their own personal policies; but there are no actual federal laws protecting passengers. The
most common answer from an airline is to give the passenger a flight in the next available flight and
no reimbursement for the money or time lost. In some cases the airline, out of the goodness of their
hearts MAY pay for some meals, or perhaps a phone call. It doesn t hurt to ask the airline personnel
for more options (if any).
Even if most rights do not deal with delays, it is always useful to know what can be done could a bad
situation cross someone s path. Unexpected events come up in moments of rush, and a flight is the
perfect example. This is why is very useful to know some solutions to these unexpected events.
Common scenarios
1) When the passenger has in his/her possession a confirmed reservation, that person has, to some
extent, secured the spot in the aircraft (unless the flight is overbooked). No personnel can deny that

Fanon Violence
On Violence
Fanon is most noted for claiming that At the individual level, violence is a cleansing force. It rids the
colonized of their inferiority complex, of their passive and despairing attitude. It emboldens them and
restores their self confidence (51). At first glance this claim rings true to the interpretations of his
work given by authors such as Robert Fulford and Henry Louis Gates, Jr who resent Fanon s work,
but there is more to this claim. To further enumerate on the quote, violence is a cleansing force for
Fanon after having affirmed that decolonization is always a violent phenomenon. He describes this
decolonization as a movement of bringing about change which can only be done by the colonized
taking charge of their land. The settlers are never willing to view the oppressed as subjects, meaning
freedom has to be taken by force. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Since the colonial world is divided into two parts: Native and Colonizer s sector, the colonizers are
able to govern with brutal force in order to keep the natives in their place of poverty and obedience. It
is through the unbalanced relationship of the two that Fanon sees it fit for the colonized to reciprocate
the violence they have been exposed to their whole colonial lives.
It is here that the distinction between colonial violence and the emancipatory violence of the colonized
is needed. Colonial violence to Fanon has 3 dimensions, it is inaugural, empirical and absurd
(Mbembe 12). This violence is inaugural in the sense that it is used by the settlers to build the colonial
state and maintain their power in what Fanon called a politics of hate (89). The state is everything but
civil as it separates the settlers from the oppressed which leads into the second dimension where the
empirical aspects of this violence are

Political Feminism And Marx s Theory Versus Liberalism

Natural law, Legal Feminism and Marx s theory versus Liberalism.
What role does liberalism play in socio legal theory?
Liberalism is a theory where the rule of law is based on principles of equality and freedom. The first
principles for this theory came from the classical liberalism while the latter principles known are more
obvious in social liberalism. The first liberals embraced a wide range of practices depending on their
point of views of these philosophies, but in general, they supported ideas and behaviors such as
freedom of speech, of the press, of religion, civil rights, secular governments and democratic societies.
Of course this is very easy to understand and explain nowadays, after so many authors have struggled
to defined what liberalism really is and seeks. Using theories of Natural law, Legal Feminism and
Marx s theory versus Liberalism, this paper will analyze the implication of rights for each theory and
how they can be used in a negative and/or positive way within the socio legal framework.
Indeed, for many years, philosophers have sought to encounter a definition to liberalism, though their
attempts have revolved around abstract and philosophical arguments to come to a neutral definition,
which accordingly to Suda (2000, p. 140) can be:
Liberalism is above all a system of thought which puts at the center of its preoccupations

Why Did Johnstown Happen
The Johnstown Flood was a catastrophe that occurred in Western Pennsylvania on May 13st of 1889.
The flood occurred when a dam on the Little Conemaugh River, South Fork Dam, failed to support
heavy rainfall flow that caused the river to swell and the dam to be overloaded. Unfortunately, a short
fourteen miles down the river lived the people of Johnstown. Johnstown was a prosperous yet modest
western Pennsylvania town. The town had an iron company called Cambria Iron Company, which
employed most of its men in producing steel products. The town, at the time, had a few phones, three
local newspapers, and a handful of saloons. At the time, they were self sufficient.
Interestingly enough, fourteen miles up the valley, South Fork Fishing and Hunting Club, was set in
the mountains and was a popular summer destination for the wealthy of Pittsburgh. At the time,
Pittsburgh was ages ahead of the little town of Johnstown comparatively. The wealthy, including

Freedom Of Decision Making Power
In Sweden child rearing was customarily strict, which prompted to a reactionary development of free
childhood in the 70s. Kids were allowed to settle on their own choices, so they essentially ran wild.
Different guardians jokingly called it free from Upbringing .
FreeUpbringing was overcompensation; the perfect is a balancing act. Freedomis valuable; however it
s dangerous if not adjusted with obligation. At last, free Upbringing acted to separate children s
freedom from taking liability for their activities.Employees are clearly not children, but freedomof

events, society still did not accept the laws and because of this, more problems arose. During the
troubles and chaos, a man by the name of Peisistratus took advantage of the renewed conflict to seize
power (SOURCE 1). Peisistratus is a tyrant among the Athenians, however, is a popular person. This
is because he proceeded to institute Solon s reforms (SOURCE 2). The men of Athens who
participated in the democracy were to vote in all elections, serve in office if elected, serve on juries,
and serve in the military during the war (SOURCE 1). Cleisthenes, another law reformer, divided
Athens into 10 tribes based on where people lived and made these new tribes...the basis for elections

Political Art Ideas By Karl Marx And Friedrich Engels
Songyi Yoo

Art 006 Final
Essay #1: Political Art Ideas There was a time in history where oppression was very present in
Geremy, specifically dealing with the Natzis and communism. It was a time of great struggles for
different social classes. Once history starts to form new movements, culture and art also become
affected. Due to this time communism in the 1900s made Marxism come about. It is a movement in
art associated with Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels that looks at the different levels of class and the
conflict in each one. Not only in Russia was there problems within the governmental structure, it is a
worldwide problem. The Mexican Murals are also a reflection of this idea. Therefore, Russian
Constructivism and the Mexican Mural movement employ Marxism as a theory. First, Russian
Constructivism was created by a group of Russians in the 1990s. In general their work is geometrical
and non mimetic. Some of the important figures of this time would be Tatlin, Malerich, Lissitzky, and
Kandinsky. They wrote the, Programme of the First Working Group of Constructives which has three
main points. One that Scientific communism is heavily influenced by the theory of historical
materialism. Two, real experimentation is important. Three, there are three disciplines known as
Tectonics, Faktura, and Construction. Finally Russian
Constructivists declare war on art which relates to the communistic ideas of Marxism. Additionally,
the Mexican Mural movement, also called

Pericles Funeral Oration Speech
When thinking of Athens, it is quite possible that the first thing you think of is something along the
lines of them having great success and an ideal lifestyle. Athens stereotype is that it was the most
amazing place to live because of their successfulness in democracy and war.
This speech is called Pericles Funeral Oration by Thucydides, and it was delivered by Pericles, an
Athenian politician, at a funeral for the war dead after the first year of the Peloponnesian War. In this
speech, Pericles basically boasts to the family and friends of these deceased warriors about how
amazing Athens is and how important the warriors were to them. He begins by saying that their
constitution does not copy the laws of neighboring states to set them apart from any and every other
place that may be deemed as competition to Athens. One thing that he appears to be very proud of is
Athens way of handling their democracy. It was not a common idea that every person was able to
participate in the city s politics, so Pericles makes sure to say that it favours the many instead of the
few when speaking of Athens democracy. Their democracy is described to be an incredible system in
which each and every citizen of Athens gets a chance to participate regardless of their social ranking
or any other thing that may affect their relevance to society. Pericles says that if a man is able to serve
the state, he is not hindered by the obscurity of his conditions rather that be low social standing

It s motivational Monday! Yes, it s a good idea to be inspired and focused at the beginning of the work
week. Check out Lifetime on Monday night to watch A Brave Heart: The Lizzie Velasquez Story .
This brave lady has been the subject of online bullying as she was born with a rare syndrome which

and put the bullies in their place. I first became aware of Lizzie after seeing her TED talk online and
what I really couldn t believe is how cruel people are. And how she has decided to be who she is
without allowing the words to hurt her. It s a testament to the human spirit. Mom star Allison Janney

Dancing with the Stars prediction: Latin night Fans of Dancing With the Stars will grimace when
another couple is cut from the ballroom this week. It s always tough. And sometimes there is no
precise reason for the elimination. This season has been especially harsh as DWTS fans get attached to
a celebrity and the ax drops. Do I have a prediction? Of course! I know with almost 100% accuracy
that Pitbull is going to heat up the ballroom on Monday with his performance. Oh, did you mean the
DWTS elimination? Oh, come on. I don t make predictions like that because I d hate to be

Synopsis Of The Movie The Greatest Show Man
The new movie The Greatest showman centers around Phineas Taylor (P.T.) Barnum and his circus. It
features many critically acclaimed actors, Zendaya Coleman as Anne Wheeler, Michelle Williams as
Charity Barnum, Zac Efron as Phillip Carlyle, Hugh Jackman as P.T. Barnum, and Rebecca Ferguson
as Jenny Lind. Their characters go through several trials throughout the film including (but not limited
to) interracial relationships, monetary issues, hate crimes, as well as racial and oddity discrimination.
I did a short Google search when I saw it the first time, as well as simply looking through my
newsfeed on Facebook; many people aren t too happy with the portrayal of Barnum, as he was not the
man Jackman portrayed him to be in the film. He put the misfits on display as freaks and oddities,
drawing on the crowds racial discriminations and hatred to make a profit. The movie didn t even
mention Joice Heth, an elderly, blind, and severely paralyzed slave. Portrayed by Barnum as a 161
year old nurse who raised and took care of George Washington, he even went so far as to perform a
live autopsy after her death to prove her old age. She is only one of many real, unspoken people of
Barnum Bailey Circus. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I don t know why they discluded James Anthony Bailey, perhaps they didn t think he would be helpful
or useful to the story line. I can t say I m overly upset, though. When they cut Bailey, they added
Carlyle, making room for the controversial relationship of Carlyle and Anne Wheeler, which many
critics say is one of the best ways they could touch on the discrimination of interracial relationships at
the time the movie is placed

How Did Religion Influence Ancient Greek Culture
You ve all heard the tales of Greek mythology, been exposed to their Gods, like Zeus, Athena or Hades
and seen the countless blockbuster movies based upon these very myths. These myths, were once very
tightly linked to the religion of the ancient Greeks. Although unfortunately, religious practise wasn t as
dramatic as moviemakers and authors like to depict, but rather, from the beginning of Greek
civilisation, religion was an integral aspect within everyday life as it sought to provide an explanation
for the occurrences in their world, control the lives of the citizens and regulate all codes of conduct. In
order to delve into the world of ancient Greece and understand the culture and daily life more fully,
the historical context of the emergence of Greek ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Between 2200BC and 1450BC the Minoans who lived on the nearby island Crete pioneered the first
great Greek civilisation (Bbc.co.uk, 2016). After the Minoans came the Mycenaean civilisation, from
approximately 1900 1100 BCE, whom are constantly acknowledged as the foundation of Greek
culture. They were the Indo European ancestors of later Greeks whose chief deity was the sky god
Zeus (Gagarin and Fantham, 2010). The Mycenaean s were greatly influenced by the Minoans,
particularly in their worship of earth goddesses and sky gods, which in turn, became the classical
pantheon of ancient Greece (Ancient History Encyclopedia, 2016). Oral tradition passed down deities
names such as Zeus, Poseidon, Hera, Athena and many more, from late Mycenaean times to the eighth
century BC. Homer, a famous Greek author and his works allude to the Olympian gods, and also in
another ancient Greek authors work History of the Gods by Hesiod (Gagarin and Fantham, 2010).
After 1100 BC, approximately when the Mycenaean age concluded, Greece entered a dark age that
lasted from 1200 800 BCE. Greece became

David Hume s Definition Of Free Will
What is free will? The general concept of free will is the ability to make choices of your own without
anyone or anything impeding them which, consequently, makes you morally responsible. Free will,
however, is non existent. This is explained with the theory of determinism and solidified via hard
determinism. Our actions and behavior can be traced to our desires and beliefs which are directly
caused by our genetics and environment. There are many stances and arguments against this idea but
ultimately do not dissuade against it. There are many beliefs as to what free will is, and many have
tried to establish its meaning. David Hume believes it is the ability to act on your beliefs and desires
and as your beliefs and desires change, so does your behavior. The problem with Hume s definition is
that those with compulsory disorders and addictions have free will according to that definition. Harry
Frankfurt believes that if first and second order desires are in agreement then you have free will. The
problem with Frankfurt s definition is that the addicts that do not have a conflicting order of desires
have free will according to the definition and those who are weak willed do not have free will. The
general explanation of free will discussed in the introduction is what will be used, seeing that the ones
explained have their obvious ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To think that it is free will and nothing else, is ignorance. Human life throughout history is known for
adaptation, to create solutions to problems created by the harshness of its environment so it can
prevail. Self reflection is one such tool of adaptation. Within this mode of thought the mind
reevaluates its environment, possible outcomes, benefits, and, depending on the capacity of the
individual, makes the necessary changes to its mindset to maintain an orderly life. This is not a case of
free will, just survival and

Reflection Paper On Regular Council Meeting
Regular City Council Meeting
I have always prided myself as a person who knows virtually everything that happens around my
community. It is common for humans to judge or misjudge what they do not know or understand. Too
often we are quick to criticize and lash after what other people say or do simply because we do not
understand it. This fact describes the character and attitude of many people especially when it comes
to politics and how a country is run right from the top to the bottom. The average people is generally
unconcerned with political affairs like how politicians spend their tax money. You only need to look at
the dismally low voter turn out to confirm this fact. This should to change and for me, this change
came on 26th October 2017, when I decided to attend The Tempe City Regular Council Meeting. I had
never attended such a meeting before. Part of the reason is perhaps owing to the attitude of most
people as I explained earlier but more particularly, I had not seen any local issue that moved me
enough to demand the necessity to have my voice heard or to be curious enough to want to find out
about the secrets of the operations of the local government. Generally, I knew that the decisions made
and policies developed by the city government affected my life directly or indirectly. However, to sit
and watch all the work and grind that goes to the formulation of these policies and decisions has made
me realize that democracy is not self driving.
The Chambers
After completing my classes for the day, I went directly to Tempe City Hall City Council Chambers
which is housed in the Harry E. Mitchell Government Center. As I got in two minutes before the
official starting time, the room was almost fully occupied but I was lucky to secure a seat at a position
where I could follow the proceedings comfortably. The chamber is divided into two seating areas one
for the Council Members and the other for the members of the public. The two areas face each other
and are separated in the middle by a corridor that connects to two main entrance/exit points. The area
accommodating the councilmembers is at a relatively elevated angle compared to the area where the
citizens sit to facilitate easy and effective engagement.

Cultural Dominance Of Male Over Female
Antonio Gramsci s hegemony defined as the dominance of one group over another has been occurring
since the beginning of time. It is where a dominant force exerts its influence in society and exert their
own power over other groups. Hegemony is seen with the cultural dominance of male over female.
Because of this dominance men have assumed the right to determine what is masculine and what is
not. With hegemony, here will be always an opposing force that plans a strategy in order to combat
and defeat their adversary. Homosexuality is often depicted as inferiority. Heterosexual men see
homosexual men as adversary to be defeated. Men has defined their masculinity by very specific set of
behavior, habits and activities acting strong, being involved in sports and becoming engineer or
doctors. Any men who do not behave according to these characteristics is viewed as effeminate . A
young man like the actor in the movie who does not engage in vigorous sports but is interested in
theater and poetry and shows sensitivity is perceived as being a Sister Boy a code word for as being
Gay . This is a hint that a lack of what society perceives as masculinity is linked to homosexuality.
Homosexuals are attracted to people of their gender. Homosexuals are usually human beings very
aware of their gender, their masculinity or femininity while being attracted to members of the same
sex or gender. In the movie, this very sensitive and apparently fragile young man falls in love with an

  • 2. My First Lesson On The Battle Of Lexington And Concord This week I only attended three days for block teaching. Monday was Columbus Day so the school was closed and everyone had the day off. Friday I did not attend because it was fall break for WIU so I decided to go home for the weekend. On Tuesday the students worked on Cornell notes for several headings in their textbook. Then on Wednesday I taught my first lesson on the battles of Lexington and Concord. The students analyzed two primary source documents then as a class we discussed their similarities and differences. The lesson went well despite the fact that two thirds of the class was missing due to state testing. The fact that majority of the class made me worried for the lesson I prepared for the following day because the two lessons were designed to match up. However, I was pleasantly surprised that Thursday s lesson went as smoothly as it did. The students stayed on task and were focused so I did not have really any issues with classroom management. Since this week was short and I taught two out of the three days I was present my teacher didn t have much involvement with his class. On Thursday when one student was getting a big rowdy before class due to an argument my mentor pulled him into the hallway to address the situation. I believe my best classroom management skills were displayed during my Wednesday lesson. Due to majority of the class being missing I got the vibe that the students who were present thought of it as a free day. I had one student who decided ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Three Principal Meetings that Led to the Adoption of the Constitution of the United States There were three principal meetings that led to the adoption of the Constitution of the United States, and only two Virginians attended all three. The meetings were the Mount Vernon Conference of 1785, the Annapolis Convention of 1786 and the Philadelphia Convention in 1787. James Madison was one attendee, and he is well known as the Father of the Constitution and our fourth President. George Mason was the other, yet his name does not spring to mind. Does George Mason deserve the accolade Founding Father? This paper will explore the political life of Mason and attempt to answer the question affirmatively. Before exploring Mason ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This work by Mason is cited often in the literature, although the reason for its inclusion appears to be his tirade renouncing the tradition of slavery. However, beyond a brief mention of the evils of slavery in the opening paragraph, the true value of this document is the description of a scheme to avoid Stamp Act taxation while retaining security in bonds and rents. This intricate plan was never implemented as the Stamp Act was repealed shortly afterward. The British Parliament adopted the Townshend Acts 1767, the colonies responded by adopting non importation associations, and George Mason s hand was to be found in those documents. The Virginia Nonimportation Resolutions were modeled after the original resolve of Philadelphia merchants. Scholars argue over whether this was the sole work of Mason, or whether he merely served on the committee. Nevertheless, on April 5th, 1769, George Washington forwarded copies of the Philadelphia resolution to George Mason. That same day, George Mason dispatched his reply to Washington, expressing Mason s thoughts at implementation of the plan. The important element of this exchange is that Mason was already in possession of the plan when Washington forwarded duplicates. Mason explained that he was ...inclosing the Resolves of the ... • 7. To The Memory Of Some I Knew Who Are Dead And Who Loved... The Easter Rising of 1916 occurred in Ireland in the midst of World War One, and the two events are closely entwined. Many Irish people initially struggled to reconcile the politics of Irish nationalism with Irish contributions to World War One. George Russell was one of the first to attempt to offer an equal commemoration of both events. In 1917, Russell published his poem To the Memory of Some I Knew Who are Dead and Who Loved Ireland in the Irish Times. This poem was a revised version of Salutation, which Russell had written to commemorate the rebels of the Easter Rebellion. In the revised version, Russell interspersed each stanza about the rebels with stanzas about Irish soldiers. Russell unites these two great losses and their ideologies. Advantages And Cons Of Outsourcing 2.1 Outsourcing Kamensky and Morales (2006, 45) define outsourcing as a management strategy that contracts out organizational activities to vendors or suppliers who specialize in these activities in order to perform them more efficiently and effectively. Outsourcing is defined as the practice of turning over entire business functions to an outside vendor that can supposedly can perform the specialized tasks better and less expensively than the organization choosing to outsource. Outsourcing differs from privatization in that outsourcing, the work load is shifted from in house government providers to the private sector, but no transfer or sale of assets has occurred. Nt1310 Unit 3 Assignment 1 Literature Review implementation demands significant investment in time and money which is justified with the benefits obtained post implementation. 2.5 REVIEWS ON RFID IN WAREHOUSE The RFID system mainly includes three parts: reader, antenna, and RFID tag, as shown. Because of the uniqueness of the RFID tag, the reader can locate and track the target once it is attached on an RFID tag. Passive tags are used to attach on the target object because they are much cheaper, long lived, lightweight and have a smaller foot print. The reader can communicated with host computer through RS232. 1. An RFID interrogator, or more often called an RFID reader, is a RF transmitting and receiving device used to communicate with an RFID Tag. The device was named an interrogator because it interrogates the tags. The term reader is a more colloquial term, but is sometimes misleading in that many of these devices also have the ability to encode, or write information to an RFID Tag. A reader basically acts as an RF sensor because it can communicate with RFID tags that are within its range and is designed to interface with an information process system. 2. The Pacific bluefin tuna is one of the most popular fish consumed in the world eaten mainly in sushi. In 2010 alone, the United States consumed twenty four percent of the tuna consumed by the entire population. Due to its increasing growth in popularity the demand for wild bluefin tuna has caused the species to drastically decline to about 2 percent of its original percent population causing it to become endangered. Due to the drop in the amount of wild bluefin tuna left there have been serious changes to the ocean s ecosystem. • 13. Simone De Beauvoir And Frantz Fanon Simone de Beauvoir and Frantz Fanon were both interested in the experiences of marginalized groups, women and black men respectively. In The Second Sex, De Beauvoir discusses the history of domination women have experienced at the hands of the superior group, men. In Black Skin, White Masks, Fanon explains and analyzes the experiences of black men in the wake of colonialism and up to modern times. Both authors not only address the ways in which women and black men are dominated by others, but also the ways in which the oppressed group participates, often unknowingly, in the systems of their own domination. We are exhorted to be women, remain women, become women... , De Beauvoir writes, ...it would appear, then, that every female human being is not necessarily a woman; to be so considered she must share in that mysterious and threatened reality known as femininity . This femininity makes a female person a woman. For example, [a woman] must become a passive thing, a promise of submission and, conversely, if [a woman] is proud and demanding, woman meets the male as an adversary and is decidedly not feminine. Shut up in her flesh, her home, she sees herself as passive before these gods with human faces who set goals and establish values , and this acceptance and participation in traditional femininity perpetuates societal beliefs that women, or at least acceptable women, are inferior naturally. By doing this, women participate in the continuation of their domination by men, who society believes are more naturally suited for superiority. Furthermore, The woman that does not conform devalues herself sexually, and hence socially, since sexual values are an integral feature of society . This gives a valiant quality to the film and makes the audience feel good, too! The moment the titles have finished, the music descends from a triumphant melody into eerie gloomy drone. Combined with the music we are shown a crisp low angle shot of a full moon surrounded by darkness. Gradually the camera zooms in from the sky and we see an insert shot of the barbed wire fence giving us an impression of imprisonment. This is followed by an establishing shot of Mr. Tweedy and his dog. In his hand he is holding a torch and patrolling the area, as they walk towards us we can hear the pitter patter of the dog s feet. Followed by, an extreme close up of an ancient rusted padlock (obviously keeping the fence locked). We are further focused on this as Mr. Tweedy shines his torch onto the padlock and checks it is securely locked, as he drops the lock we hear the clank noise it makes as it hits the fence. The focus on the lock reinforces the theme of imprisonment given previously from the barbed wire. It is also an important element to the film as the audience has to believe that it is evil to keep chickens locked up. The music has maintained its ominous characteristics. Passing, By Nella Larsen Mariem Kakeh Prof. Kangyl Ko English 63 10 October 6, 2015 Midterm Essay Passing, by Nella Larsen Passing, by Nella Larsen is a novel all about pretending to be something that you are not. It is about giving everyone the impression that everything is in order when in reality everything is falling apart. Passing in this novel refers to the ability of a person to be classified as one thing, normally a social group, while belonging to a different group. Passing is usually done to gain class or acceptance by groups other than one s own. The primary focus of the novel is on racial passing which is the ability to look white and belong to a white group when in reality the person is an African American in order to gain privileges that were unavailable to them. Although racial passing is the main focus, another major theme in this novel is sexual passing and identity. Sexual passing refers to a person s ability to be judged or viewed as a heterosexual person but in reality they are homosexual or bisexual. This was a masked theme in the novel because in the early 1900 s, homosexuality was not something that was accepted. Larsen made it aware that these were real problems in those times without coming out directly and saying it. The main plot of Passing focuses on two light skinned black women, Irene Redfield and her old time friend Clare Kendry. Both women can pass as white women. It has been found that individuals with BPD reach arousal levels much faster than others and take longer to get back to normal levels of arousal. Individuals with BPD appear to constantly have some type of crisis and they tend to view things in very close minded ways which can lead to intense feelings of their emotions. DBT teaches ways to cope with this. (Grohol, 2017). There are 4 modules used in DBT to teach the skills to reduce symptoms of BPD. The first is mindfulness (answering the question to themselves what do I do to be mindful ), the second is interpersonal effectiveness (how you interact with the people around you and in your personal life), the third is distress tolerance (most therapies focus on changing distressing events whereas DBT focuses on learning to cope with pain using coping skills) and the fourth is emotion regulation (properly identifying emotions and changing them). The Polyvagal Theory has to do with how we understand the nervous system, our senses, our emotions and behaviors. This theory states that the nervous system has its own set of strategies to regulate itself and to keep us safe in the events of danger. The theory actually boils down to the idea of safety overall. This means that the marketers might begin research and then start to make assumptions about what the consumer wants, so they will rush into developing the product when there are still several unknowns, or the scope or function of the product keeps changing. • 37. Why Did Johnstown Happen The Johnstown Flood was a catastrophe that occurred in Western Pennsylvania on May 13st of 1889. The flood occurred when a dam on the Little Conemaugh River, South Fork Dam, failed to support heavy rainfall flow that caused the river to swell and the dam to be overloaded. Unfortunately, a short fourteen miles down the river lived the people of Johnstown. Johnstown was a prosperous yet modest western Pennsylvania town. The town had an iron company called Cambria Iron Company, which employed most of its men in producing steel products. The town, at the time, had a few phones, three local newspapers, and a handful of saloons. At the time, they were self sufficient. Interestingly enough, fourteen miles up the valley, South Fork Fishing and Hunting Club, was set in the mountains and was a popular summer destination for the wealthy of Pittsburgh. At the time, Pittsburgh was ages ahead of the little town of Johnstown comparatively. Kids were allowed to settle on their own choices, so they essentially ran wild. Different guardians jokingly called it free from Upbringing . FreeUpbringing was overcompensation; the perfect is a balancing act. Freedomis valuable; however it s dangerous if not adjusted with obligation. At last, free Upbringing acted to separate children s freedom from taking liability for their activities.Employees are clearly not children, but freedomof decision making powers to individual employees are not barrier free. Freedom of decision making powers to individual employees varies from culture to culture, person to person, task to task and varies among organization also with in organization hierarchy. Freedom of decision making power can take different form from extreme to mid. An organization can follow full autonomy or participative or full directive decision making power. Autonomy Autonomy is the degree to which a job provides an employee independence to schedule their work and independence to determine the process to do the job. Larger amounts of self rule at work have been appeared to expand work fulfilment, and in some cases, motivation to perform the job. • 41. Pericles Funeral Oration Speech When thinking of Athens, it is quite possible that the first thing you think of is something along the lines of them having great success and an ideal lifestyle. Athens stereotype is that it was the most amazing place to live because of their successfulness in democracy and war. This speech is called Pericles Funeral Oration by Thucydides, and it was delivered by Pericles, an Athenian politician, at a funeral for the war dead after the first year of the Peloponnesian War. In this speech, Pericles basically boasts to the family and friends of these deceased warriors about how amazing Athens is and how important the warriors were to them. He begins by saying that their constitution does not copy the laws of neighboring states to set them apart from any and every other place that may be deemed as competition to Athens. One thing that he appears to be very proud of is Athens way of handling their democracy. It was not a common idea that every person was able to participate in the city s politics, so Pericles makes sure to say that it favours the many instead of the few when speaking of Athens democracy. Their democracy is described to be an incredible system in which each and every citizen of Athens gets a chance to participate regardless of their social ranking or any other thing that may affect their relevance to society. Pericles says that if a man is able to serve the state, he is not hindered by the obscurity of his conditions rather that be low social standing ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Their characters go through several trials throughout the film including (but not limited to) interracial relationships, monetary issues, hate crimes, as well as racial and oddity discrimination. I did a short Google search when I saw it the first time, as well as simply looking through my newsfeed on Facebook; many people aren t too happy with the portrayal of Barnum, as he was not the man Jackman portrayed him to be in the film. He put the misfits on display as freaks and oddities, drawing on the crowds racial discriminations and hatred to make a profit. The movie didn t even mention Joice Heth, an elderly, blind, and severely paralyzed slave. These myths, were once very tightly linked to the religion of the ancient Greeks. • 45. David Hume s Definition Of Free Will What is free will? The general concept of free will is the ability to make choices of your own without anyone or anything impeding them which, consequently, makes you morally responsible. Free will, however, is non existent. This is explained with the theory of determinism and solidified via hard determinism. Our actions and behavior can be traced to our desires and beliefs which are directly caused by our genetics and environment. There are many stances and arguments against this idea but ultimately do not dissuade against it. There are many beliefs as to what free will is, and many have tried to establish its meaning. David Hume believes it is the ability to act on your beliefs and desires and as your beliefs and desires change, so does your behavior. The problem with Hume s definition is that those with compulsory disorders and addictions have free will according to that definition. Harry Frankfurt believes that if first and second order desires are in agreement then you have free will. The problem with Frankfurt s definition is that the addicts that do not have a conflicting order of desires have free will according to the definition and those who are weak willed do not have free will. The general explanation of free will discussed in the introduction is what will be used, seeing that the ones explained have their obvious ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 46. Reflection Paper On Regular Council Meeting Regular City Council Meeting I have always prided myself as a person who knows virtually everything that happens around my community. It is common for humans to judge or misjudge what they do not know or understand. Too often we are quick to criticize and lash after what other people say or do simply because we do not understand it. This fact describes the character and attitude of many people especially when it comes to politics and how a country is run right from the top to the bottom. The average people is generally unconcerned with political affairs like how politicians spend their tax money. You only need to look at the dismally low voter turn out to confirm this fact. This should to change and for me, this change came on 26th October 2017, when I decided to attend The Tempe City Regular Council Meeting. I had never attended such a meeting before. Part of the reason is perhaps owing to the attitude of most people as I explained earlier but more particularly, I had not seen any local issue that moved me enough to demand the necessity to have my voice heard or to be curious enough to want to find out about the secrets of the operations of the local government. Generally, I knew that the decisions made and policies developed by the city government affected my life directly or indirectly. However, to sit and watch all the work and grind that goes to the formulation of these policies and decisions has made me realize that democracy is not self driving. The Chambers After completing my classes for the day, I went directly to Tempe City Hall City Council Chambers which is housed in the Harry E. Mitchell Government Center. As I got in two minutes before the official starting time, the room was almost fully occupied but I was lucky to secure a seat at a position where I could follow the proceedings comfortably. The chamber is divided into two seating areas one for the Council Members and the other for the members of the public. The two areas face each other and are separated in the middle by a corridor that connects to two main entrance/exit points. The area accommodating the councilmembers is at a relatively elevated angle compared to the area where the citizens sit to facilitate easy and effective engagement. ... • 47. Cultural Dominance Of Male Over Female Antonio Gramsci s hegemony defined as the dominance of one group over another has been occurring since the beginning of time. It is where a dominant force exerts its influence in society and exert their own power over other groups. Hegemony is seen with the cultural dominance of male over female. Because of this dominance men have assumed the right to determine what is masculine and what is not. With hegemony, here will be always an opposing force that plans a strategy in order to combat and defeat their adversary. Homosexuality is often depicted as inferiority. Heterosexual men see homosexual men as adversary to be defeated. Men has defined their masculinity by very specific set of behavior, habits and activities acting strong, being involved in sports and becoming engineer or doctors. Any men who do not behave according to these characteristics is viewed as effeminate . A young man like the actor in the movie who does not engage in vigorous sports but is interested in theater and poetry and shows sensitivity is perceived as being a Sister Boy a code word for as being Gay . This is a hint that a lack of what society perceives as masculinity is linked to homosexuality. Homosexuals are attracted to people of their gender. Homosexuals are usually human beings very aware of their gender, their masculinity or femininity while being attracted to members of the same sex or gender. In the movie, this very sensitive and apparently fragile young man falls in love with an older ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
