Symbolism In A Prayer For Owen Meany
John Irving s 1989 novel A Prayer for Owen Meany features a decades spanning narrative that jumps
around in time, describing the life and journey of faith of Johnny Wheelwright. John s life is
intertwined with that of his childhood friend Owen Meany, a precocious and strange character whose
effect on John s world can t be understated. Throughout the novel, reoccurring symbols are used to
emphasize the themes of fate, faith, and spirituality. What is interesting about the symbolism in this
novel is how Irving utilizes it. The symbols aren t just there for the reader to recognize and interpret,
they strengthen the overall story. By making one of the major themes fate (and predestination), Irving
makes his use of symbolism a potent facet; every ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Owen Meany told me that he was sure my father was alive, that he was sure my father knew he was
my father, and that God knew who my father was; even if my father never came forth to identify
himself, Owen told me, God would identify him for me. YOUR DAD CAN HIDE FROM YOU,
Owen said, BUT HE CAN T HIDE FROM GOD. (p. 21) Another mystery in the novel is what
happened to the fatal foul ball that struck Tabby. Owen denies having taking the ball and insists that
the John s father must have been present at the game and took the ball as a reminder. The baseball
eventually appears in the desk of Reverend Lewis Merrill, a fairly benign figure in the plot. John s
anger causes him to play a prank on the Reverend, using two of the symbols, the baseball and the
armless dummy, to convince Reverend Merrill that his is being visited by Tabby s ghost. This
reinvigorates the Reverend s faith, as Owen s life and death reinvigorates

Pneumonia Is A Serious Disease
Introduction Globally, pneumonia is a serious disease that more often than not results in death.
However, with the exception of drug resistant strains, pneumonia is very preventable and easily
treated if caught early in the disease process. This is a summary of the disease process, clinical
presentation, and patient education about pneumonia. Pathophysiology Pneumonia is an infection of
the alveoli inside the lungs. It can have many causes including bacteria, viruses, fungi, or it may be a
consequence of another disease. The infection causes a purulent film to line the alveoli, which inhibits
gas exchange. It can be isolated to one lobe of the lungs (lobar pneumonia) or affect many areas of the
lungs (bronchopneumonia). The alveoli play the key role in gas exchange in the body and patients
may present with headache, vomiting and sweating, cough, dyspnea, and pleuritic pain. Causes
Pneumonia can have a variety of causes but the most common causes are viruses and bacteria.
Bacterial pneumonia is commonly caused by natural occurring bacteria that reside in the upper
respiratory tract and either through airborne droplet or defective defense mechanisms is able to
migrate into the lower respiratory tract and cause infection (Driver, 2014). Nair and Niederman found
the most common causes of bacterial pneumonia are Streptococcus pneumonia, Haemophilus
influenza type b, and Moraxella catarrhalis (2011). Viral pneumonia is generally caused by organisms
that originate in the

Motherhood Essay
Motherhood Many different aspects of life characterize motherhood. Traditions along with society
influence the role of motherhood. Carol Stacks All our Kin, is an essay about the structuring of kin
groups (1974, p.47). In the society, if the mother is not mature enough to raise the child, a close
female relative takes on the role of the mother; whereas, the man has the option of choosing to claim
the child and take on the responsibilities of fatherhood or he can imply that the father could be anyone,
which is a socially acceptable reason. Ruth Horowitz The Expanded Family and Family Honor,
portrays a Mexican Family as a nuclear family unit within an expanded family (1983, p.64). After
marriage, motherhood is an expected ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Virginity is looked upon as an honor to a woman s husband or her father. It is dishonorable to lose one
s virginity before marriage because a mother is portrayed as an honorable and respectful figure. If her
virginity is lost before marriage or adultery is committed, the society s respect toward the mother is
lost.
On 32nd street, society establishes that the birth mother take on the role of the caretaker before birth
whereas, in The Flats, it is established after birth. On 32nd street, society implies that it is the woman s
duty to bear children. Motherhood is seen not as a last resort but rather as a highly honored role
(Horowitz, 1983, p.71). After marriage, a woman s chief purpose is to bear and raise children. In The
Flats, if the mother is not emotionally ready to nurture a child , the parental rights are given to a
female member of the family who accepts the responsibility as mama (Stack, 1974, p. 49). In the eyes
of the community, a young mother who does not perform her duties has not validated her claim to
parenthood (Stack, 1974, p.49).
When a woman becomes a mother she takes on the expected responsibility of bonding with her child.
In The Flats the mama is the women who raises the child, usually for life (Stack, 1974, p.48). The
mama may raise the child and the natural

Lysander Love Potion Essay
An effect of Oberon and Puck s incorrect use of the love potion was that Hermia becomes heartbroken
that Lysander now loves Helena. As Hermia expresses in Act 3 Scene 2; What? Can you do me greater
harm than hate? Hate me? O me, what news, my love? Am I not Hermia? Are you not Lysander? I am
as fair now as I was erewhile. Since night you loved me; yet since night you left me. Why then you
left me O the gods forbid! In earnest shall I say? (Lines 271 277). Hermia is deeply in love with
Lysander, and he is too, deep down, but cannot express it because he thinks he is in love with Helena
due to the love potion. Hermia is even more heartbroken because Lysander is the only man that she
truly loves and wants to be with, and she believed they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Act 3, Scene 2 Lysander challenges Demetrius with a sword fight; If thou say so, withdraw, and
prove it too (Line 255). The competitiveness of both of the men to win over Helena is extremely
romantic, even though neither of them are in love with her. It is flattering, yet immature that they are
determining over a brawl who should get to be with Helena. They are treating her as an object,
whereas they never asked Helena who she would want to marry, but took it upon themselves to decide
who got to claim her as their prize. Another example of Lysander wanting to fight was in lines 413
420 (Act 3, Scene 2); He goes before me, and still dares me on; When I come where he calls, then he
is gone. The villain is much lighter heel d than I; I follow fast, but faster he did fly, That fallen am I in
dark uneven way, And here will rest me. Come, thou gently day, For if but once thou show me thy
grey light I ll find Demetrius and revenge this spite (Lines 423 420). Lysander thinks that Demetrius
was making him run around the forest to look for him to fight, though it was Puck who just wanted to
make him tired so he could put the anti solution on his eyes. Demetrius did not declare any fighting,
but wanted to prove his worthiness, for he too loved Helena. Boys will be boys as they say, and in this
scene, there is a perfect example that regardless of

Example Of Child Observation
For my final project, I conducted my observation on an eight month old little boy named Noah. I
observed how well he could perform tasks at his age of eight months. I performed my evaluation in
the late afternoon at his home. The duration of the evaluation took place in the family room. It was a
large room that was fully carpeted. The room had a large L shaped sectional couch in one corner and a
round solid wooden coffee table directly in front of that. I obtained his parents consent before
conducting my experiment and collecting my data for this section of the final project. To determine if
Noah could perform tasks appropriate for his age group, I had him do a couple different skills, without
prompting hardly at all, that were appropriate for his age group. At the age of eight months, Noah is
able to sit up and crawl. He ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The test here was to really see if he would bang it against something. Noah waved the spoon around
but was quickly bored of it and did not bang it on anything. He showed no signs of hand preference.
He moved toys freely between both hands and didn t reach for toys with any specific hand when
handed something.
I wanted to see if Noah had interest in finding a toy under a cup. His mother and I prompted him, but
he seemed much more interested in the cup than the toy. He only sometimes revealed the toy and did
not seem to grasp the game we were playing. I decided to try a task from seven months since Noah
didn t seem interested in the cup or the spoon.
To see whether Noah could pull a string to obtain an object, I got out a toy he seemed to gravitate to
all afternoon. It was a toy with a string and colorful ribbon attached at the end. I tried to get him to
play with the toy but he was not very interested and crawled over it. I did however notice him picking
up the string, and saw him grasping it so this would be considered appropriate seven month old

Nursing Practice Act
Nursing Practice Act Being a former nursing student in the state of Pennsylvania I have had the
Nursing Practice Act of Pennsylvania. Before this assignment I knew little of the Pennsylvania laws
and absolutely none of the state of Florida. Every state has their set of laws, which is referred to the
Nursing Practice Act. Every nursing student must have a copy. The nursing practice act ensures that
anyone practicing does not fall below the minimum competency and does not present danger to the
public, and anyone who does will be prohibited from practicing (Nurse Practice Act, 2007, p.7).

Analysis Of The Weight Of Sweetness By Li-Young Lee
The weight of sweetness by Li Young Lee is a poem about the memory of Lee and his hard worker
father. This poem is about one of the Lee s memories with his father, also the idea of memories in life.
In this poem, principal words bringing new meaning with them throughout the poem. Sweetness,
peaches, weight and gravity. The peaches are attributed of sweetness and the memory that Lee had
from picking them from the branches with his father. The weight and gravity both have a force of
attraction in memory itself which is the specific memory of Lee s father. The meanings of each words
become more clear as the poem progress.
The sweetness of the peaches can be heavy, sad or even joyful like as the peach tree makes sugar for

Lee perfectly uses the weight of peaches to illustrate his idea that they subject to the law of gravity
that force everything to weighs down. Lee uses peaches to explain his father s life, labor, love and
death. and his arms grow weak, as he labors under the weight of peaches. This poem also has a
powerful tone of feeling complexity as well as bitter sweetness of nostalgia as he begins with No easy
thing to bear, the weight of sweetness. The sweetness means a kind of taste or tenderness however he
describes it in terms of weight and he generate his powerful idea about emotional complexity.
Li Young Lee in this poem concentrated on memories that provide both joy and sadness as they allow
us to recall the happy or sad moments with our loved ones as we prepare ourselves for future. Lee
examine his emotional relationship to his father in the past with hoping that remembering all those
moments will help him integrate those memories with his father into his own life. Windblown, a rain
soaked bough shakes, showering the man and the boy. They shiver in delight, and the father lifts from
his son s cheek one green leaf fallen like a kiss. Lee uses images in this poem to show the readers his
idea about the memory rather than telling all at once because he thought this way has more emotional
impact because

Essay on Sayo Masuda’s Autobiography of a Geisha
Sayo Masuda s Autobiography of a Geisha
Autobiography of a Geisha was originally written for a memoir competition run by the Japanese
magazine Housewife s Companion. Sayo Masuda wrote and submitted her manuscript in hopes of
winning the monetary prize offered. She won second place in the competition and came to the
attention of an editor who helped her expand her story and publish it as a book. Riding on the wave of
interest stirred by Arthur Golden s Memoirs of a Geisha, G. G. Rowley translated Sayo Masuda s tale
for the American market.
Rowley did an excellent job of capturing Masuda s voice in his translation. If English had been
Masuda s native language, the result might easily have been Rowley s translation. Masuda s tale ...

Readers will also come away with an understanding of the hot spring geisha s life, but caution should
be taken. It is easy, as many critics have done, to presume that Masuda s tale is the unvarnished truth
about the entire geisha world, rather than merely the unvarnished truth about a part of it. Reviewer
Kimberly Shearer Palmer wrote that Autobiography of a Geisha resolves the ambiguity over whether
or not geisha are prostitutes... [Masuda] leaves little doubt in the reader s mind that even the most
talented geisha are forced to sleep with men for money, a fact glossed over in many accounts of the
profession. (14). Palmer leaves little doubt in the minds of those who read her review that she takes
Masuda s experiences of geisha life as true for all classes of geisha, regarding sources such as Mineko
Iwasaki s Geisha, A Life as tainted. Many other reviewers follow in the same vein, calling reports of
higher class geisha s lives romanticized (Napier) and Hollywood version[s] (Gavin). Perhaps these
attitudes stem from a culture clash which prevents many Americans from understanding the
differences between Japanese prostitutes and geisha, and the gradations within the flower and willow
world. The tendency seems to be to lump all geisha together with the term prostitute, an attitude which
is all too eager to use Masuda s biography to support generalized, culturally skewed assumptions
about geisha.

Catholics Confession Of Beliefs
Catholics believe that there are three ways to express the Christian faith: through the confession of
beliefs, in spiritual practices and ways of beliefs....and in a code of ethic (Groome 174). The
confession of beliefs is the first step to becoming a Christian. This step requires individuals to believe
in a higher power and form a relationship with the higher power. A confession of beliefs requires the
attendance to a local church, to help build a relationship with God and Jesus. Jesus may play the most
important role in this stage because he walked in the life of a human and understands the struggles that
individuals face. When someone is scared to talk with God they can speak with Jesus because he is
understanding. Spiritual practices and

The Unwritten History of Cave Paintings Essay
Religious stories and scientific theories have tried for thousands of years to accurately date the
formation of man. However, in the 1860s, a new art was discovered that changed the view of human
creation forever. This new insight was cave painting. Cave painting is a form of prehistoric art that
dates back hundreds of thousands of years. Analysts are unable to specify the reasoning behind these
paintings of objects on cave walls, but many theories have been formulated to surmise the rational
behind the art. Questions arise like, why did man find a need to paint the walls of caves and is this part
of the foundation of the origin of human life as we know it? (Beacon) The ecumenical belief is rooted
at history, cave paintings are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The methods used to create have proven themselves more useful in dating the art than the work itself.
The natural objects used have withstood time better that the art. In the earlier times of the paintings,
fingers and soft clays created many of the paintings. The fine engravings were created later in time,
respectively, and are much more rare. Over time the art became more revolutionized and the artists
began to mix colors with pestles and mortars. They even went as far as using stencils and blowpipes to
create different effects. Another supporting theory that the paintings were done consciously to
preserve time is the cost of the art. The cave paintings were expensive to create. The artists required
sufficient lighting and a homemade type of scaffolding to reach the high areas. If it didn t seem
imperative to the people to preserve their experiences, they wouldn t have gone to such costs to create
the work. The quality and consistency of the best painted works in caves supports this. They honed
their skill to perfection so that it would last for centuries to be interpreted months later by different
clans or even years later by completely different generations. When the first painting was found,
people didn t know whether they were conclusive to a specific area. Many years later from 1860 after
finding the first cave of Chauvet, hundreds of paintings have been found. Historians believe there to
have been over a thousand of

Research Paper On Diego Rivera
Diego Rivera The artist that i am going to write about is Diego Rivera. Rivera was born in
Guanajuato, Mexico on december 8, 1886. Diego had a twin brother named Carlos, who died two
years after they were born. Rivera was said to have converso ancestry (having ancestors who were
forced to convert from Judaism to catholicism. Rivera wrote in 1935: My Jewishness is the dominant
element in my life. Rivera began drawing at the age of three, a year after his twin brother s death. He
had been caught drawing on the walls. His parents, rather than punishing him, installed chalkboards
and canvas on the walls. As an adult, he married Angelina Beloff in 1911, and she gave birth to a son
in 1916 1918. He married his second wife, Guadalupe Marin, in june 1922. With whom he had two
daughters Ruth, and Guadalupe. He was still married when he met art student Frida Kahlo. They
married on August 21, 1929 when he was 42 and she was 22. Their mutual infidelities and his violent
temper led to divorce in 1939, but they remarried December 8, 1940 in San Francisco. Rivera later
married Emma Hurtado, his agent since 1946, on July 29, 1955, one year after Kahlo s death. Rivera
was an atheist. His mural Dreams of a Sunday in the Alameda depicted Ignacio Ramirez holding a
sign which read, God does not exist . This work caused a furor, but Rivera refused to remove the
inscription. The painting was not shown for nine years until Rivera agreed to remove the inscription.

Was Marcus Butus A Bloody-Tragic Hero In Shakespeare s...
Was Marcus Brutus a bloody thirsty madman? Did he actually believe murdering Caesar would make
Rome great again? Both of these statements sound absurd, but are they really? In Shakespeare s Julius
Caesar, the main character is considered to be Marcus Brutus, the loyal friend to Julius Caesar. After it
is pronounced that Caesar is to become the king of Rome after returning from a military victory
against Pompey, Cassius approaches Brutus with an plan. Is it possible, that once Brutus hears this
plan, he is driven to join the conspiracy to kill Caesar? If your answer to the previous question was
yes, then is it believable that Brutus was a tragic hero?
Throughout the duration of the tragedy, Brutus has received numerous comments about his personality
and how good of a human being he is. In Scene II of Act I, Brutus is caught in a conversation with
Cassius, in which Cassius off handedly mentions, Brutus, I do observe you now of late, I have not
from your eyes that gentleness and show of love as I was wont to have (I.ii.34 36). Cassius speaks up
and tells Brutus he hasn t been himself recently. Where as normally he is good natured and
affectionate , something is bothering him and has steered him away from these normal emotions.
Brutus states,
Cassius,
Be not deceived. If I have veil d my look,
I turn the trouble of my countenance
Merely upon myself. Vexèd I am

Mapp Vs. Ohio Case Study
Previously, in a 1949 decision (Wolf v. Colorado), the Supreme Court expanded some of the
protections of the Fourth Amendment, however, it did not go so far as to apply those protections to the
states. Specifically, the exclusionary rule (the rule that states that illegally obtained evidence may not
be used against a defendant) was not applied to the states. Mapp v. Ohio was an opportunity to do just
that. The Mapp v. Ohio case originated in Cleveland and concerned a situation in which police officers
broke into the home of Dollree Mapp, claiming they had a search warrant. They told Ms. Mapp that an
informant had told them that a suspect wanted in a bombing was hiding in her home and that they had

the murders, Simpson and a friend attempted to flee in Simpson s white Bronco but Simpson was
eventually apprehended at his house after the chase concluded (Linder). On July 22, 1994, Simpson
pleaded not guilty to charges of two counts of first degree murder (Linder). The trial lasted from

Blood found on the socks contained genetic markers associated with both OJ Simpson and Nicole
Brown Simpson (List). As we learned in class the blood evidence was very important because of its
role as a body fluid containing DNA. This evidence should have been critical in linking OJ Simpson
to the crime scene and with Nicole Brown Simpson. According to the defense Nicole Brown Simpson
s blood was planted on Simpson s socks to implicate him. One of the defense s claims was that from
the blood samples collected on the sock there was EDTA present (Matheson). In class we learned that
EDTA is used in the purple topped vacutainer vials that are used to collect blood. The EDTA helps to
stop the blood from coagulating and instead keeping it a liquid form. According to the FBI analysis
the levels of EDTA found were only 1/1000 that of what would be in a vacutainer vial (Matheson).
Given this information I would reasonably conclude that this is probably not blood from a vacutainer
vial and that the evidence was not likely planted by someone. Another claim that the defense had was
that the blood had soaked all the way through the socks which would not have been possible if OJ
Simpson would have been wearing the socks (List). One of the things we studied in class was blood
stain patterns. In particular one of the patterns was a wipe. If OJ Simpson had taken the socks off and
left them on the floor it would make sense that if the volume of blood on the socks was substantial,
like the amount of blood at the scene, that the blood could still be wet enough to wipe blood from the
front of the socks to the back of the socks and soak through. A lot of this would depend on how much
time it took between the murders and OJ Simpson removing his socks, because if the blood had
already started to dry before he took them off the blood likely wouldn t

To What Extent Did The New Deal Dbq Essay
In 1929, the stock market crashed and soon after that The Great Depression started. It was the deepest
and longest lasting economic fall in history. In 1932, Franklin D. Roosevelt wanted to help the people
and make a difference. Problems in the Great Depression that Franklin D. Roosevelt wanted to change
was the fact that people didn t have any jobs, and that people didn t have any money because of a bank
failure. Some fiscal policy programs that franklin did to combat The Great Depression were Works
Progress Administration (WPA), and Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC). The Great
Depression caused many people to be unemployed, and many people to be broke because of the banks

One problem that America experienced as a result of The Great Depression was that people were
unemployed. This means that many people lost their jobs, and they were unable to find any work. In
document B the graph shows that in 1929, the unemployment rate decreased, it went from being 1

unemployment rate dropped in that time period. Unemployment impacted the U.S by not having

Macbeth Pathetic Fallacy Essay
I wandered lonely as a cloud that floats on high o er vales and hills (William Wordsworth, I Wandered
Lonely as a Cloud). Wordsworth uses pathetic fallacy to deepen the meaning behind the poem, as seen
here, by stating I wandered lonely as a cloud...vales and hills , as opposed to simply saying, I
wandered lonely . Similarly, in Shakespeare s, Macbeth, pathetic fallacy deepens the plot with use of
nature allegories. Firstly, at the beginning of the play, the weather of thunder and lightning symbolises
a gloomy event to occur, in which, three murtherers kill Banquo. Secondly, with the air being
somewhat mysterious, odd events begin to happen, which lead to Macbeth s death. Finally, with a
cloudy sky overhead, the darkness symbolises ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The pathetic fallacy in this statement is the quality and condition of the air is a sign that odd events
will come. Continuing on, when Macduff and Macbeth meet in Macbeth s castle at the end of the play,
Macbeth states that only a man who is not born from a woman can kill him. Macduff counters back to
Macbeth that , And let the angel whom thou still hast served / Tell thee, Macduff was from his mother
s womb / Untimely ripped (5.8.14 16). Macduff states that because of being cut out the womb as
opposed to being born naturally, Macduff is the one who is to kill Macbeth. The analogy of the foggy
and filthy air giving light to odd events to come lead to Macbeth s death because Macduff fits the
description the apparition gave Macbeth. Last but not least, Fleance s note to Banquo about not being
able to see the moon foreshadows of an incoming evil deed, which ends up being Duncan s death.
Banquo and FLeance are sitting outside of Macduff s castle and Banquo asks if Fleance knows what
time it is, and Fleance responds with, The moon is down. I have not heard the clock (2.1.2). Fleance is
unable to tell the time to Banquo because of the lack of moon to alarm the bell of midnight, showing
that the weather is cloudy. Adding on, due to the weather, the event of an evil deed does happen, in the
form of Duncan s death in the hands of Macbeth. Lady Macbeth approaches Duncan s room, when
Macbeth asks who is there and

attach our equipment, we pay leases to various companies that own the spaces that we use. The
majority of our leases are paid on a yearly basis, but some of them are paid on a monthly basis. Up

scattered throughout a network drive with very little organization. Because of this lack of
organization, we were paying many of our lease agreements past their due dates and forcing us to
incur late fees on top of our payments. I took on the task of organizing these files and setting up a
payment schedule inside of our company SharePoint, which was being far underused. I had to go

straight finals appearances, winning the Cavs first NBA titles in 2016 on a game sealing three by point
guard Kyrie Irving. LeBron himself has been to seven straight NBA Finals so one could say he knows
the game well and is to be considered a teacher of the game to his younger teammates such as Irving.
Recently, Irving has decided to step away from the Cavaliers organization to join the Boston Celtics
because he no longer wanted to be in the so called shadow of James. Multiple sources have spoken on
Lebron s basketball IQ calling it part of the reason he is the best player right now. Now that Kyrie has
joined the Celtics he is leading his team based off things Lebron has already taught him, but only time
will tell how the season will go and if Kyrie can survive. In the novel Lord of the Flies, a group of
British boys become stranded on an island and have to use what they know about civilization already
and how to behave to try and survive on this island. In Lord of the Flies, William Golding uses the
symbol of face paint to show that someone who is civilized has disguised human nature by adapting to
society s etiquette. He also uses symbolic scenes such as when Roger is throwing rocks at Henry.

Conflicts Of Interest And Its Impact On Research
Conflicts of interest appear in all aspects of life, yet in research the potential consequences of these
conflicts may be disastrous. Allowing conflicts of interest to exist in science has a negative impact on
research they could damage public opinions of science and slow the progression of research. Scientific
disciplines have the potential to harm society, highlighting the need to conduct ethical research free
from conflicts of interest. In epidemiology, conflicting interests may have serious repercussions, as
demonstrated by the case of Pat Buffler. These cases demonstrate the need to regulate conflicts of
interest: strategies are necessary to prevent and manage any conflicts which may arise.
Conflicts of interest are circumstances ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The deliberate or unintentional bias arising from a conflict contributes to research misconduct2, and
failure to address these conflicts may damage the public s attitude towards science2. Furthermore, non
disclosure of secondary interests adds to the distrust between the researcher and other scientists2.
Consequently, the efficiency of research is reduced2: modern research requires scientific collaboration
to develop materials, specimens and information2, and doubtful results must be cross examined to be
validated. Furthermore, if the researcher s actions damage the relationship between scientists and
funders, future research may stop, as institutions providing financial support may be reluctant to invest
in the researcher2. The researcher suffers the most from a discovered conflict of interest, as they are
penalised for misconduct. The severity of the penalty reflects the misconduct, and can range from
exclusion from a research project, retraction of research, or even the researcher s dismissal5. The
appropriate action is affected by the researcher s scientific discipline, as each institution has different
codes of conduct5. Conflicts of interest are present in all scientific disciplines. Epidemiological
research has direct impacts for many people, so it is important for the research to be free from
misconduct6. As such, research should be of high quality and unbiased by any

The Gambino Crime Family
Paul Castellano, or Big Paul was an eight grade dropout and boss of the richest, most dangerous, and
most powerful crime syndicate in the United States. Born June 26, 1915 in Brooklyn, Big Paul began
his life in the mob by running numbers. When he was named successor to the great Carlo Gambino,
trouble arose. Many members felt that Aniello Dellacroce, although in prison, deserved the role but
instead Gambino had promoted Paul. Some saw this as nepotism which was generally frowned upon
on by La Cosa Nostra. To settle tensions Castellano gifted Neil Dellacroce some of the family s most
lucrative operations throughout Manhattan and Queens, but this did not completely satisfy the slighted
underboss. Paul, like Gambino, was an unusual type of Mafia boss. Unfortunately, while Don Carlo
was revolutionary, Big Paul was unsatisfactory. He was embarrassed that he was categorized as a
gangster and preferred to be regarded as a diplomat or businessman. Big Paul was said to look more
like a businessman or CEO than a mobster. Paul Castellano was flashy too; he liked elegant clothing,
fine dining, and being driven around by chauffeur. He even detested violence which is not a good
quality for a mob boss to obtain. The Pope as he was referred to, was standoffish. His predecessor had
gone to the markets in Little Italy, held court in public places, lived in the city, and interacted with his
soldiers and capos. Big Paul on the other hand, generally held court at his private estate, did

SNAP Policy Analysis
For each of these three recommended actions to be implemented into policy, several things need to
occur. For the SNAP policy update and increase in funding recommendation, a general consensus
among the United States Department of Agriculture needs to be on board that this is a necessary
action. The USDA regulates the SNAP program, so they are the primary agency that would update the
policies to further enhance eligible food items and restrict purchasing of unhealthy food. They have

Congress as well. The Federal Trade Commission is the primary agency that enforces and regulations
advertisements. However, Congress grants the authority to the FTC, and therefore, can update the laws
and regulations regarding advertising. In 1990, Congress enacted the Children s Television Act, and
this authorized the FTC to limit the amount of advertising that children are exposed to. This law
limited the advertising to 10.5 minutes per hour on weekends and 12 minutes per hour on weekdays
(CDC, 2016). The FTC also prohibits the use of unfair methods of completion in advertising practices.
However, three elements need to occur for action. The first is, there must be a representation,
omission, or practice that is likely to mislead the consumer. Second, The FTC examines the
reasonableness of the practice from the perspective of the intended audience. Lastly, the
representation, omission, or practice must be likely to affect the consumer s conduct or decision with
regard to the product or service (CDC, 2016). This seems like it would be an effective process;
however, the process used to create prohibitions can require up to 10 years to complete the entire
process (CDC, 2016). Therefore, this process is not done very often, and as mentioned, childhood
obesity is at an alarming rate. Congress needs to enhance the power of the FTC to act in order to
protect children from marketing strategies used by the food and beverage industry. The current process
used by the FTC is extremely long and completely ineffective. Congress needs to make an ethical
decision if they want to effectively reduce childhood obesity. The research is very clear that
advertising leads to overconsumption and this leads to obesity. The recommendation action would hurt
corporate profits, but if corporate profits are more important than vulnerable children, then there are
major issues with the Congress

History of the Word Assassin
Words are dynamic, ever changing aspects of our world. The meaning of words grow and change over
time. Many words have evolved over time to take on new forms and identities with a changing culture.
The evolution of our basic vocabulary is bound to evolve and morph into new meanings. Words that
have been around for longer are bound to have a variety of meanings because they have been used by
people for centuries. Words change meaning over a long period of time due to culture, slang, incorrect
usage, and misinterpretation. The word, assassin, much like other words, has progressed and changed
meaning over time. In one way it was used to describe a person addicted to the narcotics, hash.
Secondly, it can be used as its more prevalent usage currently as a person who is hired to kill. There
are many theories about where the word assassin originated, but the most common is that the word
assassin had first originated in about 1080 right before the first crusade. There was a certain fanatical
sect of Ismaili Muslims that sent forth militants during the crusades to kill Christian leaders. While
they did this they were said to be under the influence of hashish, an opiate. One of the primary sources
for this account was from the writings of Marco Polo. As a result, the first literal meaning of the word
evolved from the Arabic word, hashishiyyin or hashishin, and meant hashish eater or hashish user.
However, the term took on a completely different meaning as time went on. As a result

Incident Command System Analysis
The utilization of the Incident Command System (ICS) in the United States may at first glance appear
to be an overwhelming, and complicated system of hazard management. On the contrary, for most
responders with military, law enforcement, or fire service background, ICS closely conforms to the
principles of command structure with which they are familiar. Applying strict command structure,
along with standardized response training leads to higher probabilities of successful outcomes in the
face of the most chaotic emergencies. Large scale emergency responses like 9/11 are repeatedly
critiqued, often from afar, sometimes correctly, but sometimes unfairly. Responders on the ground

Training of individual responders in the use of PPE, hazardous material recognition, shielding tactics,
or establishing an immediate perimeter can often increase survivability and mission success. The use
of two man tactics to offensively isolate a terrorist, instead of waiting for a larger tactical unit response
can be effective in limiting the scope of violent attacks. The use of technologies including: video
surveillance, explosive detection, infrared viewing, thermal imaging, drones, and robotics are
examples of advantageous equipment that when used correctly can positively alter response ability.
The use of cross training of responder disciplines, such as police receiving fire or ems training will
lead to more capabilities and understanding by those first on scene. Approximately half of individuals
that work in law enforcement, fire, rescue, emergency medical, and related fields hold a second job in
a similar emergency response agency (Newman, and Clark, 2008). Every possible advantage should
be examined as first responders prepare for handling a terrorist situation, especially if the initial
immediate response is limited in scope. First on scene personnel must also survive an attack

The Importance Of Career And Technical Education
Career and technical education, CTE, prepare individuals with the skills needed to efficiently grow
into various high demand careers. Career and technical pathways create a system where students of all
ages can become better prepared for the workforce. Career and technical education is applicable to
college students and adults, but is most commonly embroidered into high school students learning
style. The CTE path involves the grind between academics, technical skills, and work specific
attributes in which each adds onto another to develop a more prepared individual. Provided that career
and technical education has been around for a while, it has proven itself to be an exceptional method
for students to embed into their studies.

The Main Features And Characteristics Of A Slum
A slum is a heavily populated urban informal settlement characterized by substandard housing and
squalor. While slums differ in size and other characteristics, most lack reliable sanitation services,
supply of clean water, reliable electricity, law enforcement and other basic services. Slum residences
vary from shanty houses to professionally built dwellings that because of poor quality construction or
provision of services have deteriorated into slums.
Main features and characteristics of the slums are poor connectivity to the main city, lack of proper

The Indian Supreme Court has also recognized the right to water and proper sanitation conditions

A UN expert group has created an operational definition of a slum as an area that combines to various
extents the following characteristics: inadequate access of safe water; inadequate access to sanitation
and other infrastructure; poor structural quality of housing; overcrowding; and insecure residential
status. To these one might add the low socioeconomic status of residents of these areas.
The problem of slums have started because of excess migration of people from the rural areas to the
urban areas and when the people who have migrated do not get proper place to settle down and live,
the settlement of the slum areas (mostly in the outer parts of the city) takes place. But the settlements
in these slums are not proper and lack basic facilities of sanitation, electricity, connection to the roads,
proper construction of houses

so busy with life that I placed my writing to the side as secondary. I was pleased to take this class and
I feel that I gotten reintroduce to reading and a piece of me have been awaken. To my amusement the
three pieces of works that sparked my interest are the first three that we were assigned to read. Mark

because of the different adventures that Huck encounters. Brett Harte The Luck of the Roaring Camp
That was published in 1868, This short story commanded my attention and I was emotional attached

1886.This story intrigue me with nature and how the story develops around it. These wonderful
masterpieces are intriguing to me because they are three totally different writing styles and stories
concepts that can be seamlessly connected with literary elements. The way the authors wrote their
pieces were amazing for that story, but I find it fascinating how we can float down the river with Huck
and be in a western with Roaring Camp through imagery. How the use of the tone can bring the same
hope of Roaring Camp to the Woods of White Heron . Each story had characters that develop and did
it with the used of something symbolic.

How Successfully Did the National Government Deal with the...
How successfully did the National Government deal with the economic problems of the 1930s? In
dealing with the economic depression of the 1930s, it is my opinion that the recovery of Britain was
mainly due to the stages of rearmament in the run up to the Second World War. This is not to say,
however, that the National Government failed to combat the rises in unemployment, reaching a peak
of three million, and the ruined staple industries, they implemented several policies to reboot the
economy and lessen the impact on the people. The National Government were successful in some

applied to the worst affected areas, but this was dependent on their income and the result was many of
the poorest people did not apply. Furthermore, the budget for the act was only £2 million. These
policies seem to suggest that the National Government was somewhat lost on the right course of
action to take, and even then their commitment to not worsen the deficit limited them to gimmicks or
simple lack of effectiveness. They were hardly helped with the condition that Britain now found itself
in. Unemployment figures reached new peaks with the largest being in Wales where 33% of men now
found themselves without work. The traditional industries, of coal, cotton, iron, steel and shipbuilding,
known collectively as the staple industries were the hardest hit; The coal pits of north Wales were
finding themselves without contracts, and the shipyards in Jarrow, near Newcastle were so bad that the
men announced a march to London, taking several weeks. It accomplished very little but to show just
how bad the north of England had been hit. The south meanwhile suffered heavily from cyclical
unemployment, wherein the employee would latch onto short term work, finish the contract and
become unemployed and then find something else. But even then, the unemployment level for the

Evangelism Is A Vital Aspect Of Church Work
Evangelism is a vital aspect of church work. Without evangelism, the church cannot grow. The word
itself describes the idea of reaching out and converting people to Christ. Unfortunately, we have lost
sight of this noble goal. The command of our Savior to go into all of the world and preach the gospel
is often taught, but rarely followed (Matt. 28:19 20; Mark 16:15 16). Poor teaching and faulty
approaches to outreach are responsible for this. We must remedy these problems in order for the
church of our Lord to grow as God desires. Remedying the problems that the church faces is not easy.
They are deeply rooted and people will create road blocks to solutions. Our first approach to solving
these issues rests in education. How effective will an evangelistic campaign be if the members are not
trained? People will only do as well as they are taught and challenged; therefore, we need to formulate
a solid educational program relating to evangelism. The first phase of this is teaching members where
evangelism starts: in the church itself. Church evangelism starts with members fellowshipping outside
of the building and showing concern for their brothers and sisters. We cannot reasonably expect any
campaign to be successful without the members being close knit. The community needs to see the
congregation exhibit a family like environment. Our members should feel like their spiritual families
are closer to them than their physical families. The goal for the congregation should be

Restricting Communism with the Marshall Plan
The source in question is an extract from the United States Secretary of State George C. Marshall s
commencement speech for receiving an honorary degree from Harvard University; it was delivered on
the 5th of June, 1947 at Harvard University.
The speech was created primarily Charles Bohlen, a Soviet expert and Marshall s special assistant, and
later revised by Marshall. Department officials, including George Kennan and William Clayton saw
the Marshall Plan as a way of restricting Communist growth in Europe, by strengthening the
struggling democratic European nations . After the end of WWII in 1945, the majority of Europe was
in ruins; over a third of the European industry was destroyed by the war, resulting in weak economies,
and millions of people unemployed and starving, causing low morale. As economies were not
improving at a rapid enough pace, combined with high unemployment and a hungry population,
people started to look for change. Communism began to look promising, and was becoming
increasingly popular in Europe through rebels and partisans. In an attempt confine the spread of
Communism, Marshall was sent to Moscow to negotiate with Stalin. Initially, Stalin welcomed the
possibility of Soviet participation in a U.S funded European reconstruction program. However, Stalin
opposed the idea of a coordinated multilateral aid programme, which was seen to threaten the Soviet
political and economic position in Eastern Europe , and withdrew all support and insisted that

eggs and even tasting the final product. After several weeks of continuously working to build different

boy couldn t stop smiling from excitement. He told us that as soon as he got home he wanted to make

  • 2. Symbolism In A Prayer For Owen Meany John Irving s 1989 novel A Prayer for Owen Meany features a decades spanning narrative that jumps around in time, describing the life and journey of faith of Johnny Wheelwright. John s life is intertwined with that of his childhood friend Owen Meany, a precocious and strange character whose effect on John s world can t be understated. Throughout the novel, reoccurring symbols are used to emphasize the themes of fate, faith, and spirituality. What is interesting about the symbolism in this novel is how Irving utilizes it. The symbols aren t just there for the reader to recognize and interpret, they strengthen the overall story. By making one of the major themes fate (and predestination), Irving makes his use of symbolism a potent facet; every ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Owen Meany told me that he was sure my father was alive, that he was sure my father knew he was my father, and that God knew who my father was; even if my father never came forth to identify himself, Owen told me, God would identify him for me. YOUR DAD CAN HIDE FROM YOU, Owen said, BUT HE CAN T HIDE FROM GOD. (p. 21) Another mystery in the novel is what happened to the fatal foul ball that struck Tabby. Owen denies having taking the ball and insists that the John s father must have been present at the game and took the ball as a reminder. The baseball eventually appears in the desk of Reverend Lewis Merrill, a fairly benign figure in the plot. John s anger causes him to play a prank on the Reverend, using two of the symbols, the baseball and the armless dummy, to convince Reverend Merrill that his is being visited by Tabby s ghost. This reinvigorates the Reverend s faith, as Owen s life and death reinvigorates ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Pneumonia Is A Serious Disease Introduction Globally, pneumonia is a serious disease that more often than not results in death. However, with the exception of drug resistant strains, pneumonia is very preventable and easily treated if caught early in the disease process. This is a summary of the disease process, clinical presentation, and patient education about pneumonia. Pathophysiology Pneumonia is an infection of the alveoli inside the lungs. It can have many causes including bacteria, viruses, fungi, or it may be a consequence of another disease. The infection causes a purulent film to line the alveoli, which inhibits gas exchange. It can be isolated to one lobe of the lungs (lobar pneumonia) or affect many areas of the lungs (bronchopneumonia). The alveoli play the key role in gas exchange in the body and patients may present with headache, vomiting and sweating, cough, dyspnea, and pleuritic pain. Causes Pneumonia can have a variety of causes but the most common causes are viruses and bacteria. Bacterial pneumonia is commonly caused by natural occurring bacteria that reside in the upper respiratory tract and either through airborne droplet or defective defense mechanisms is able to migrate into the lower respiratory tract and cause infection (Driver, 2014). Nair and Niederman found the most common causes of bacterial pneumonia are Streptococcus pneumonia, Haemophilus influenza type b, and Moraxella catarrhalis (2011). Viral pneumonia is generally caused by organisms that originate in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Motherhood Essay Motherhood Many different aspects of life characterize motherhood. Traditions along with society influence the role of motherhood. Carol Stacks All our Kin, is an essay about the structuring of kin groups (1974, p.47). In the society, if the mother is not mature enough to raise the child, a close female relative takes on the role of the mother; whereas, the man has the option of choosing to claim the child and take on the responsibilities of fatherhood or he can imply that the father could be anyone, which is a socially acceptable reason. Ruth Horowitz The Expanded Family and Family Honor, portrays a Mexican Family as a nuclear family unit within an expanded family (1983, p.64). After marriage, motherhood is an expected ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Virginity is looked upon as an honor to a woman s husband or her father. It is dishonorable to lose one s virginity before marriage because a mother is portrayed as an honorable and respectful figure. If her virginity is lost before marriage or adultery is committed, the society s respect toward the mother is lost. On 32nd street, society establishes that the birth mother take on the role of the caretaker before birth whereas, in The Flats, it is established after birth. On 32nd street, society implies that it is the woman s duty to bear children. Motherhood is seen not as a last resort but rather as a highly honored role (Horowitz, 1983, p.71). After marriage, a woman s chief purpose is to bear and raise children. In The Flats, if the mother is not emotionally ready to nurture a child , the parental rights are given to a female member of the family who accepts the responsibility as mama (Stack, 1974, p. 49). In the eyes of the community, a young mother who does not perform her duties has not validated her claim to parenthood (Stack, 1974, p.49). When a woman becomes a mother she takes on the expected responsibility of bonding with her child. In The Flats the mama is the women who raises the child, usually for life (Stack, 1974, p.48). The mama may raise the child and the natural ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Lysander Love Potion Essay An effect of Oberon and Puck s incorrect use of the love potion was that Hermia becomes heartbroken that Lysander now loves Helena. As Hermia expresses in Act 3 Scene 2; What? Can you do me greater harm than hate? Hate me? O me, what news, my love? Am I not Hermia? Are you not Lysander? I am as fair now as I was erewhile. Since night you loved me; yet since night you left me. Why then you left me O the gods forbid! In earnest shall I say? (Lines 271 277). Hermia is deeply in love with Lysander, and he is too, deep down, but cannot express it because he thinks he is in love with Helena due to the love potion. Hermia is even more heartbroken because Lysander is the only man that she truly loves and wants to be with, and she believed they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In Act 3, Scene 2 Lysander challenges Demetrius with a sword fight; If thou say so, withdraw, and prove it too (Line 255). The competitiveness of both of the men to win over Helena is extremely romantic, even though neither of them are in love with her. It is flattering, yet immature that they are determining over a brawl who should get to be with Helena. They are treating her as an object, whereas they never asked Helena who she would want to marry, but took it upon themselves to decide who got to claim her as their prize. Another example of Lysander wanting to fight was in lines 413 420 (Act 3, Scene 2); He goes before me, and still dares me on; When I come where he calls, then he is gone. The villain is much lighter heel d than I; I follow fast, but faster he did fly, That fallen am I in dark uneven way, And here will rest me. Come, thou gently day, For if but once thou show me thy grey light I ll find Demetrius and revenge this spite (Lines 423 420). Lysander thinks that Demetrius was making him run around the forest to look for him to fight, though it was Puck who just wanted to make him tired so he could put the anti solution on his eyes. Demetrius did not declare any fighting, but wanted to prove his worthiness, for he too loved Helena. • 6. Example Of Child Observation For my final project, I conducted my observation on an eight month old little boy named Noah. I observed how well he could perform tasks at his age of eight months. I performed my evaluation in the late afternoon at his home. The duration of the evaluation took place in the family room. It was a large room that was fully carpeted. The room had a large L shaped sectional couch in one corner and a round solid wooden coffee table directly in front of that. I obtained his parents consent before conducting my experiment and collecting my data for this section of the final project. To determine if Noah could perform tasks appropriate for his age group, I had him do a couple different skills, without prompting hardly at all, that were appropriate for his age group. At the age of eight months, Noah is able to sit up and crawl. He ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The test here was to really see if he would bang it against something. Noah waved the spoon around but was quickly bored of it and did not bang it on anything. He showed no signs of hand preference. He moved toys freely between both hands and didn t reach for toys with any specific hand when handed something. I wanted to see if Noah had interest in finding a toy under a cup. His mother and I prompted him, but he seemed much more interested in the cup than the toy. He only sometimes revealed the toy and did not seem to grasp the game we were playing. I decided to try a task from seven months since Noah didn t seem interested in the cup or the spoon. To see whether Noah could pull a string to obtain an object, I got out a toy he seemed to gravitate to all afternoon. It was a toy with a string and colorful ribbon attached at the end. I tried to get him to play with the toy but he was not very interested and crawled over it. Essay on Sayo Masuda’s Autobiography of a Geisha Sayo Masuda s Autobiography of a Geisha Autobiography of a Geisha was originally written for a memoir competition run by the Japanese magazine Housewife s Companion. Sayo Masuda wrote and submitted her manuscript in hopes of winning the monetary prize offered. She won second place in the competition and came to the attention of an editor who helped her expand her story and publish it as a book. Riding on the wave of interest stirred by Arthur Golden s Memoirs of a Geisha, G. G. Rowley translated Sayo Masuda s tale for the American market. It is easy, as many critics have done, to presume that Masuda s tale is the unvarnished truth about the entire geisha world, rather than merely the unvarnished truth about a part of it. Reviewer Kimberly Shearer Palmer wrote that Autobiography of a Geisha resolves the ambiguity over whether or not geisha are prostitutes... [Masuda] leaves little doubt in the reader s mind that even the most talented geisha are forced to sleep with men for money, a fact glossed over in many accounts of the profession. (14). Palmer leaves little doubt in the minds of those who read her review that she takes Masuda s experiences of geisha life as true for all classes of geisha, regarding sources such as Mineko Iwasaki s Geisha, A Life as tainted. Many other reviewers follow in the same vein, calling reports of higher class geisha s lives romanticized (Napier) and Hollywood version[s] (Gavin). Perhaps these attitudes stem from a culture clash which prevents many Americans from understanding the differences between Japanese prostitutes and geisha, and the gradations within the flower and willow world. The tendency seems to be to lump all geisha together with the term prostitute, an attitude which is all too eager to use Masuda s biography to support generalized, culturally skewed assumptions about geisha. However, in the 1860s, a new art was discovered that changed the view of human creation forever. This new insight was cave painting. Cave painting is a form of prehistoric art that dates back hundreds of thousands of years. Analysts are unable to specify the reasoning behind these paintings of objects on cave walls, but many theories have been formulated to surmise the rational behind the art. Questions arise like, why did man find a need to paint the walls of caves and is this part of the foundation of the origin of human life as we know it? In the earlier times of the paintings, fingers and soft clays created many of the paintings. The fine engravings were created later in time, respectively, and are much more rare. Over time the art became more revolutionized and the artists began to mix colors with pestles and mortars. They even went as far as using stencils and blowpipes to create different effects. Another supporting theory that the paintings were done consciously to preserve time is the cost of the art. The cave paintings were expensive to create. The artists required sufficient lighting and a homemade type of scaffolding to reach the high areas. If it didn t seem imperative to the people to preserve their experiences, they wouldn t have gone to such costs to create the work. The quality and consistency of the best painted works in caves supports this. They honed their skill to perfection so that it would last for centuries to be interpreted months later by different clans or even years later by completely different generations. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Blood found on the socks contained genetic markers associated with both OJ Simpson and Nicole Brown Simpson (List). As we learned in class the blood evidence was very important because of its role as a body fluid containing DNA. This evidence should have been critical in linking OJ Simpson to the crime scene and with Nicole Brown Simpson. According to the defense Nicole Brown Simpson s blood was planted on Simpson s socks to implicate him. One of the defense s claims was that from the blood samples collected on the sock there was EDTA present (Matheson). In class we learned that EDTA is used in the purple topped vacutainer vials that are used to collect blood. The EDTA helps to stop the blood from coagulating and instead keeping it a liquid form. According to the FBI analysis the levels of EDTA found were only 1/1000 that of what would be in a vacutainer vial (Matheson). Given this information I would reasonably conclude that this is probably not blood from a vacutainer vial and that the evidence was not likely planted by someone. Another claim that the defense had was that the blood had soaked all the way through the socks which would not have been possible if OJ Simpson would have been wearing the socks (List). One of the things we studied in class was blood stain patterns. In particular one of the patterns was a wipe. If OJ Simpson had taken the socks off and left them on the floor it would make sense that if the volume of blood on the socks was substantial, like the amount of blood at the scene, that the blood could still be wet enough to wipe blood from the front of the socks to the back of the socks and soak through. A lot of this would depend on how much time it took between the murders and OJ Simpson removing his socks, because if the blood had already started to dry before he took them off the blood likely wouldn t ... This law limited the advertising to 10.5 minutes per hour on weekends and 12 minutes per hour on weekdays (CDC, 2016). The FTC also prohibits the use of unfair methods of completion in advertising practices. However, three elements need to occur for action. In dealing with the economic depression of the 1930s, it is my opinion that the recovery of Britain was mainly due to the stages of rearmament in the run up to the Second World War. This is not to say, however, that the National Government failed to combat the rises in unemployment, reaching a peak of three million, and the ruined staple industries, they implemented several policies to reboot the economy and lessen the impact on the people. Furthermore, the budget for the act was only £2 million. These policies seem to suggest that the National Government was somewhat lost on the right course of action to take, and even then their commitment to not worsen the deficit limited them to gimmicks or simple lack of effectiveness. They were hardly helped with the condition that Britain now found itself in. Unemployment figures reached new peaks with the largest being in Wales where 33% of men now found themselves without work. The traditional industries, of coal, cotton, iron, steel and shipbuilding, known collectively as the staple industries were the hardest hit; The coal pits of north Wales were finding themselves without contracts, and the shipyards in Jarrow, near Newcastle were so bad that the men announced a march to London, taking several weeks. It accomplished very little but to show just how bad the north of England had been hit. • 34. Evangelism Is A Vital Aspect Of Church Work Evangelism is a vital aspect of church work. Without evangelism, the church cannot grow. The word itself describes the idea of reaching out and converting people to Christ. Unfortunately, we have lost sight of this noble goal. The command of our Savior to go into all of the world and preach the gospel is often taught, but rarely followed (Matt. 28:19 20; Mark 16:15 16). Poor teaching and faulty approaches to outreach are responsible for this. We must remedy these problems in order for the church of our Lord to grow as God desires. Remedying the problems that the church faces is not easy. They are deeply rooted and people will create road blocks to solutions. Our first approach to solving these issues rests in education. How effective will an evangelistic campaign be if the members are not trained? People will only do as well as they are taught and challenged; therefore, we need to formulate a solid educational program relating to evangelism. The first phase of this is teaching members where evangelism starts: in the church itself. Church evangelism starts with members fellowshipping outside of the building and showing concern for their brothers and sisters. We cannot reasonably expect any campaign to be successful without the members being close knit. The community needs to see the congregation exhibit a family like environment. Our members should feel like their spiritual families are closer to them than their physical families. The goal for the congregation should be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Marshall s commencement speech for receiving an honorary degree from Harvard University; it was delivered on the 5th of June, 1947 at Harvard University. The speech was created primarily Charles Bohlen, a Soviet expert and Marshall s special assistant, and later revised by Marshall. Department officials, including George Kennan and William Clayton saw the Marshall Plan as a way of restricting Communist growth in Europe, by strengthening the struggling democratic European nations . After the end of WWII in 1945, the majority of Europe was in ruins; over a third of the European industry was destroyed by the war, resulting in weak economies, and millions of people unemployed and starving, causing low morale. As economies were not improving at a rapid enough pace, combined with high unemployment and a hungry population, people started to look for change. Communism began to look promising, and was becoming increasingly popular in Europe through rebels and partisans. In an attempt confine the spread of Communism, Marshall was sent to Moscow to negotiate with Stalin. Initially, Stalin welcomed the possibility of Soviet participation in a U.S funded European reconstruction program. However, Stalin opposed the idea of a coordinated multilateral aid programme, which was seen to threaten the Soviet political and economic position in Eastern Europe , and withdrew all support and insisted that ...
