Star Wars Essays
Crafting an essay on the subject of "Star Wars" may seem deceptively simple at first glance,
given the vastness of the franchise and the abundance of source material available. However,
delving into the intricacies of this iconic saga can pose a challenge, not because of a lack of
content but due to the sheer magnitude and depth of the Star Wars universe.
The difficulty arises from the need to balance a comprehensive exploration of the franchise's rich
history, characters, and themes while maintaining focus on a specific aspect or argument. With a
sprawling narrative that spans multiple trilogies, spin-offs, and various forms of media, selecting
a coherent and engaging thesis can be a daunting task.
Additionally, the challenge lies in avoiding the pitfalls of producing a mere summary or a fan-
centric piece devoid of critical analysis. A successful essay requires a nuanced understanding of
the cultural impact, cinematic techniques, and underlying philosophies embedded within the Star
Wars narrative. Navigating through the extensive lore and addressing the evolving fanbase
perspectives further complicates the process.
Moreover, the wealth of existing scholarly work on Star Wars demands a fresh approach to
ensure originality and relevance. Engaging with the established discourse while contributing
unique insights is crucial to standing out in the realm of Star Wars essays.
In conclusion, while the allure of exploring the galaxy far, far away is undeniable, the task of
crafting a compelling and insightful essay on Star Wars involves navigating a vast and complex
universe. However, with meticulous research, a clear focus, and a critical lens, one can navigate
the challenges and produce an essay that not only honors the legacy of Star Wars but also adds a
valuable perspective to the ongoing conversation about this cultural phenomenon.

Social Commentary On Slavery In Huckleberry Finn
Mark Twain s Social Commentary on Slavery in Huckleberry Finn
Huckleberry Finn, written by Mark Twain over seven years, is considered one of
the best American masterpieces ever published, and a novel that Twain used to make
social statements about the treatment of blacks. The novel follows Jim, a slave, on
his journey from captivity to slavery. Along the journey, Twain makes claims about
slavery and racial inequalities. Throughout the novel Huckleberry Finn, Mark Twain
discussed the paradox of slavery in a free country and expressed a clear social
statement about the unfair treatment of different races; by drawing upon the history
of slavery in the United States and it s impact on his life, he tied slavery into the novel
and made these statements
Slavery was prevalent in the United States during the period in U.S. history when the
story of Huckleberry Finn takes place. The first slave arrived in the United States in
1619, and, as a result of runaway slaves receiving freedom in the North (Jim s intent),
the Fugitive Slave Act of 1950 mandated that escaped Southern slaves had to be
returned to captivity. Slavery was abolished in 1862, when President Abraham
Lincoln freed slaves with the Emancipation Proclamation. During the mid 18th
century, slavery was often a hot topic, as the North and South debated over whether it
was morally, and lawfully, right. Senator Charles Sumner, in 1848, brought this issue
to the forefront when he decried an ...unhallowed union ... between the
How Russian Culture Has Changed My Life
Russian culture has always had a big impact on my life as a mixed, Russian/Black
individual. And as most Russians will tell you, food is a huge part of their culture. I
grew up with so many diverse food on my plate over the year and simply assumed
that that was just what everyone ate until I started going to school and noticing other
kids lunches, and they started to notice mine. But at the heart of my semi Russian
experience there are four foods that seem to best capture the ideal Russian dishes.
Aspic gelatin
Cow tongue
Hunter bacon
Cabbage roll
Now of course I could go on with lots a delicious Russian dishes such as pelmeni,
and shuba, and blin, and oh my gosh I complete forgot to have lunch. Each of those
dishes gives a better ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Picture this, jello, except not at all, because this jello has had the artificial fruity
goodness life sucked out of it and some genius had the brilliant idea to replace it
with chicken of all things. The concept of it is just so bizarre. Why would anyone
want to submerge perfectly good chicken in gelatin? The answer to that question is
beyond me but somehow this giggly abomination on a silver platter plate is one of
my mom s favorite dishes. So whenever it shows up at these Russian parties I keep
my mouth shut, in hopes not to say anything that would insult her tastes, nor allow
the chicken gelatin to find its way in.
Another Russian dish that not a particular favorite of mine would be cow tongue. It
s a very unusually dish to eat outside of the Russian community and if we re going
to be honest its rather unusual to me as well. It seems more like something a middle
school age boy would attempt to make his friends do on a dare rather than an
actually palatable food. From first glance even before it enters your mouth
something just seems off. It s such a drained, depressed, eeyore ish gray. And unlike
how it is in beauty and the beast, the gray stuff is not delicious. As I begin to bite my
tongue I m hit with the a rather unique texture, dead cow s taste buds. The taste itself,
incredibly bland, and the meat, very soft and chewy. It s almost too soft really, in
that it would be easy for herbivores to eat it, even with their complete lack of canines.

Gabriel Garcia Marquez
Research Paper
Many authors like to write fantasy novels, stories that detached themselves from
reality, novels that tell us about magic, parallel dimensions, between others. But even
in these fictional stories there is still the presence of the universal themes that can be
touched not only in this kind of novels but also in the simpler ones, themes like the
fight between good and evil, love, between others.
There are also the authors that actually mix the fantasy and the reality to a point
that it is really hard to see the difference between them, Gabriel Garcia Marquez is
said to be the father of this gender called Magic Realism , he said that the reason
that he sees the world in that particular way of his, is because of the persons ... Show

This fact was what inspired him to write Autumn of the Patriarch a story that talks
about an eternal dictator, he based this character in real life autocrats like Gustavo
Rojas Pinilla, Francisco Franco and Juan Vicente Gomez.
Many of the characters in his stories are based in real life persons not only in famous
characters like the autocrats in the Autumn of the Patriarch but also people of his own
family.
The first character and one of the most obvious one would be Jose Arcadio Buendia

father, this is a clear mirror of the father of the author a men who would constantly
travel looking for adventures, moving the family from one city to another to look
for a way to make business and easy money, always leaving the care of his own
children to other persons, most of the time to his in laws and because of that the
relationship with his children wasn t really good.
Another one would be Ursula Iguaran a women full of character and a strong

Desiccant Experiment
When I used to work at EDI, the factory where we make drug testing kits, there was
an accident with a packing/pouching machine. There was a girl who was pouching,
and was putting devices on the conveyer belt. On each machine for packing
/pouching, there is a desiccant machine as well. That machine cuts a single
desiccant from the roll to go in each pouch with the device. The desiccant machine
was on, but was not spitting out any desiccants. The girl who was pouching saw
that there was a desiccant stuck, so she stuck her finger up by the blade to get it
out. As a result of that, part of her finger was cut off. The task that she was doing
was partially what she needed to do. To remove the stuck desiccant, you have to grab
it from the area where
Ford Competition
In a present day of global warming, environmental issues, labor unions, and other
impacts, the automobile industry is in an era of instability and change. Ford Motor
Company has been traditionally considered one of the Big Three in the auto industry,
but they are not adapting as well as hoped to the changing industry, and will have to
strategize to survive in a struggling industry.
There are many different risk factors for Ford and its competitors. In this paper we
will look at two competitors for Ford that are also considered to be members of the
Big Three and coincidently, are not adapting to changes in the auto industry as
quickly as other competitors. These other companies are General Motors (GM) and
Daimler Chrysler. We will... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the category of other economic factors, issues such as a contraction within the
housing industry, CO2 emission standards, crowded market place for new cars and
trucks, more efficient production by foreign companies (Toyota s Total Production
System which is a just in time production that other companies have attempted to
emulate with little success) and a downward trend in buying are all risk factors that
the entire industry needs to take into consideration.
The first video watched on Hoovers.com is a video with Ford s CEO Alan Mulally,
the first of two. The CEO was at an auto show, introducing a new cross over vehicle.
Risks that are alluded to in this interview are centered on the large truck and SUV
markets versus the smaller vehicles and cross over vehicles that are being produced.
A major problem Ford had seen in the past was that consumers and industry analysis
had not seen them as moving forward into the future, and matching consumers wants
and demands as well as some of the foreign manufacturers.
The second Ford video with CEO Alan Mulally shows the outcome of Ford s
realization that they need to concentrate on other markets and producing new
vehicles. For the first time in two years, they are in the black for the current quarter
(at the time of this video). However, when asked if the trend will continue, the CEO
acknowledges that because of having to reduce production during the 3rd quarter
(due to a lower buying trend) that it is a
The Tale Of Dracula, Or The Son Of The Dragon
Countless times the fictional story of the infamous Count Dracula has been told in
treatises, playwrights, novels, and also films. Dracula as a character has such an
arduous lifestyle that it is difficult to decipher between truth and myth. Although the
narrative of Count Dracula is viewed as only fiction, there is accuracy behind the
legends. Vlad III s legacy sparked the lore of Count Draculabecause of the scarring
childhood he endured, the torturous agony he caused upon others, and a gruesome
war.
Vlad III was born in November 14, 1431 in Sighisoara, Transylvania to Vlad Dracul
and Princess Cneajna of Moldavia. He had an older brother, Mircea, and a younger
brother, Radu. In 1431, Vlad Dracul was inducted into the Order of the Dragon, ...

In addition, he directed his loathing to his father and older brother, Mircea, for their
unfaithfulness to the Order of the Dragon. Similarly, he was angry at Radu for
leaving Christianity and converting to the Islamic faith. The years Vlad III spent in
captivity taught him many ways of torture and in one way shaped him into the man
he eventually came to be, Vlad the Impaler.
While Vlad Dracul was still on the Wallachian throne, John Hunyadithe Hungarian
King, demanded that Vlad Dracul shall promise to join the crusade against the Turks,
but wanting to stay neutral he sent Mircea instead. The Christian army was utterly
destroyed in the Battle of Varna, John Hunyadi managed to escape the battle under
inglorious conditions. From this moment forward John Hunyadi was bitterly hostile
to Vlad Dracul and Mircea ( Vlad 4). In result to John Hunyadi s animosity, in 1447,
he raided Wallachiaand assassinated Vlad Dracul and Mircea with help of boyars and
merchants. Fearing the Hungarians would gain too much influence in Wallachia after
the death of Vlad Dracul, the Ottoman Turks forged ahead to Wallachia and put Vlad
III on the throne as a puppet so the Sultan could pull the strings. Yet within only
reigning two months, John Hunyadi forced him into exile in Moldavia. Vlad III s
successor to the throne...unexpectedly instituted a pro Turkish policy, which John

In fact, evidence suggests that his interactions and associations could be the
reason that led to the shooting at the O.K. Corral [2]. Essentially, Doc Holliday
was friends with a William Leonard, who was later implicated in an attempted
stagecoach robbery, that resulted in the death of two of three passengers. Prior to
this event, Holliday had had a number of run ins with an individual by the name of
Milt Joyce. A number of times Holliday was arrested and taken to court for assault.
These charges were often dropped after Holliday paid court fees and the fines
associated. Because of these confrontations and Holliday s relationship with
Leonard, Holliday was accused of being a part of the gang (who mostly consisted
of members of the Cowboy gang) who attempted to rob the stagecoach. To clear
Holliday s name, the Earps (Wyatt, Virgil and Morgan) formed a posse that hunted
down the other members of the gang. To find some of the men that could clear
Holliday s name, Wyatt made a deal with Ike Clanton (a known Cowboy member),
Wyatt would give Ike the reward money for the outlaws, if Ike would give
information regarding their whereabouts[2]. Ike Clanton, on the other hand, denied
such a deal occurring. He said that Wyatt approached him, but he [Ike] would have
nothing to do with the deal [1]. When the outlaws were found, they (allegedly)
resisted arrest and the outlaws in the party who could clear Holliday s name were
killed. Ike grew restless and fearing that the Cowboys would hear about his deal
with Wyatt [2]. Ike accused Wyatt of sharing their plan with Holliday. Ike confronted
Wyatt and later Holliday. Virgil broke up the confrontation between Holliday and
Ike, and while Holliday went to his hotel for the night, Ike continued to drink through
to sunset. At this point Ike was looking to instigate a fight with Holliday and Wyatt.
Wyatt and Virgil stopped Ike as he was walking down the
Stopping By The Woods Essay
Composers utilise their respective works to convey various aspects of revelation.
Exploration of self and the wider world is a multifaceted component, manipulated to
be found in all aspects of life. Composers such as Robert Frost and David Wilkie
incorporate these notions into their literary works. Robert Frostdexterously composed
the poems Stopping by the woodson a snowy evening and Mending Wall to reflect the
ambiguous nature of man s interpretive expeditions. Similarly, David Wilkie adapts
Titan s 16th century Supper at Emmaus to his 19th Century painting Christopher
Columbus at the convent of la Rabida to portray the ever relevant nature of
expedition into the unknown. Frost analyses metaphysical exploration as a supporting

However, the lines retain a sense of echolalia, illustrating that the speaker s mind is
transfixed in metaphysical contemplation. Frost consequently draws connotations to
humanity s constant battle between lust for, and fear of, the unknown. Therefore,
exploration into one s cognitive realm is denoted as tempting but potentially
dangerous. However, Frost portrays this experience with positive overtones,
describing the encounter as necessary. Frost inadvertently shows that through self
exploration, an individual can understand their worth. Therefore, self analysis
generates a shaped perception of an individual s civil necessity.
Individual citizenship expedites a greater comprehension of social mechanics. Civil
machinations are duly exposed when examined from multiple perspectives beginning
with the individual. Frost alludes to this notion in Mending wall by highlighting the
varying opinions of man. The colloquial and and But are used as multiple sentence
starters, eliciting a familiar rapport. However, this is juxtaposed by the allegorical
walk the line that draws adverse connotations to society s influence on private
thought. Frost furthers this notion through the deplorative tonality when mentioning
the motif of the wall . Additionally, the archaic imagery of he moves in darkness
continues the impression of a growing antipathy. Frost employs these to showcase the
disparity between the speaker s distaste for boundaries
Importance Of Ancient Egypt
Why Ancient Egypt?
Why choose Ancient Egypt when there are so many other civilisations around the
same period of time? Ancient Egypt was different to any other culture or civilisation.
They believed in many things that other didn t believe in. Ancient Egypt had many
beautiful views especially along the Nile. By going to Ancient Egypt, you will
experience the different way of life. It would be an experience of a lifetime.
Geography

covered the North Eastern part of the Sahara Desert and was near where Africa meets

The Valley of the Kings
The valley of the Kings is located on the Nile s west back near Luxor. The
pharaohs of Egypt s Old Kingdom picked the pyramid of Giza and the Nile delta as
their tombs but the pharaohs of the New Kingdom wanted a place closer to the
source of their dynasty roots in the south. This place is the Valley of the Kings.
The valley of the kings was a burial ground for pharaohs such as Tutankhamun, Seti
I, Ramses II as well as queens, elites and elites of the 18th,19th and 20th dynasties.
It was a total of 62 tombs. Tombs would be stocked with materials the ruler would

The Nileometer The Nileometer was an ancient instrument used to measure the

submerged in the river marked with intervals showing how deep the river was. The
survival of the Egyptians depended on the Nile so the Nileometer was quite

Ambivalence Of Human Trafficking
In the 21st century, children are taught in school that slavery doesn t exist. As young
people, persons in the United States are led to assume that slavery was abolished
through the Emancipation Proclamation. Unfortunately, slavery is rampant today and
is exhibited in a variety of forms, including, but not limited to: domestic work, sexual
slavery, and labor. Human trafficking, by definition, is the recruitment,
transportation, transfer, harboring or receipt of persons, by mean of the threat or
use of force or other forms of coercion, of abduction, of fraud, of deception, of the
abuse of power or of a position of vulnerability or of the giving or receiving of

Three prominent areas of human trafficking victims, however, are women, the labor
force men and women alike, and the youth population. Women are often exploited
sexually or for domestic work, in addition to falling prey to the aforementioned
international matchmaking industry. Although women may enter this field
voluntarily, the article, Trafficking Internet Brides , by Jackie Jones, discusses
how women are coerced into becoming mail order brides via the internet. The UN
estimates that each year over 12 million people are trafficked worldwide ... 2
million girls between age 5 and 15 are brought into the sex industry ... 80% are
women and girls between the ages of 18 and 24 perfect for brides ... around 70% are
trafficked for purpose of sexual exploitation (Jones 2011). Despite the supposed
legality of online matchmaking sites, it is often the unfortunate truth that these
websites are still for the purchasing and selling women and children for profit. As
these matchmaking sites are legal on the surface, the government is therefore
facilitating the sale of these women and children, because it is under the guise of an
international matchmaking agency for individuals seeking romantic
The Mask You Live In Analysis
The Mask You Live In is a 2015 American documentary film that covers the topic of
hyper masculinity in American society and its effects on the development of boys in
this country. The primary argument that this film makes is that it is highly unrealistic
for men to live up to the standard of hyper masculinity that our society as created and
forced upon them. In fact, the film makes the argument that menwho try to live up to
these standards are setting themselves up for failure because many of them fall in
to deep depression as they fail to measure up to society s skewed idea of
masculinity. This film uses various interviews from many different individuals
including a single father, victims of abuse, and teachers in order to support the
overall claim that it is trying to make along with going into some of the effects that
hypermasculinity has on boys as they grow up. Overall, I feel that this film does a
fantastic job of communicating both the dangers of trying to live up to a frankly
outdated model of masculinity as well as showing how unrealistic this standard of
masculinity is in modern society.
On the topic of masculinity, the film goes into the causes of the current standard that
society has set for how to be a man and how it ends up effecting boys as they grow
up in American society. The documentary also describes how society links athletic
ability to successfully doing gender as a man. During this scene, former NFL player
Joe Ehrmann states how he feels that this way

The Ballot or the Bullet
The 1960 s civil rights movement was a period when acts of violence were being
committed against African Americans and those who supported civil rights.
Malcolm X was a radical civil rights leader and well known spokesmen who had a
very different interpretation of how things should be handled. His tactics, although
controversial, motivated millions to fight for their rights. The Ballot or the Bullet, is
directed at African Americans and encourages them to stand up for their rights and
vote. Malcolm X uses rhetoric early on in an attempt to unite all African Americans.
Throughout his speech, Malcolm X s use of ethos, pathos, and logos is obvious and

When you expand the civil rights struggle to the level of human rights, you can take
the case of the black man in this country before the nations in the UN. Even though
his words during much of his speech are formed from anger and frustration, I think
here is where Malcolm is at his least violent, actively trying to find alternates to the
dilemma of African American s oppression. He claimed human rights are your God
given rights...rights that are recognized by all nations of this earth. And any time
anyone violates your human rights, you can take them to the world court. Malcolm
believed it was necessary to charge the U.S with human rights violations, with
criminal acts that amounted to genocide. I find this move shocking because it s not
normally what we associate Malcolm X. I think this is Malcolm at his most
sincere, one of the few moments that could be directed at a white audience and a
black audience with equal effect intended. The United Nations never considered the
rights of blacks in its Charter of human rights. If blacks were able to make their
quandary an issue in the world court, they could equally be considered oppressed in
comparison with other oppressed groups in America and
Leader Development And Leadership Development
Leaders exist at all levels within an organizational design and should not be
interpreted as only applying to positions of management. Leadership development
programs characterize the institutional desires in creating positive organizational
structure in every realm of the corporation. Recognizing the variation between
different levels of leaders and their contributions, it is critically important to identify
the necessary characteristics of emerging leaders. The knowledge, skills and
abilities necessary to perform satisfactorily at current occupied levels is just as
critical to mission success as readying establishment employees for the next
opportunity. In order to sense levels of excellence, senior leaders can gain a baseline
of capabilities by conducting leadershipand personality profiles of existing employees
and more importantly, decide on principled traits of incoming leaders, which ensures
the culture of leadership that is desired.
It is paramount to understand the difference between leader development and
leadership development (Day, 2001) in addition to the basics of organizational
scanning to enhance the employee experience, directly effecting business outcomes.
Day studied the best practices, as well as, the most current research performed on
leadership development issues, including coaching, mentoring, and 360 degree
evaluations among others, which should be utilized in ascertaining context.
Synchronously, current perceptions of leaders within the

THE CONNECTION BETWEEN CHILD ABUSE AND DRUG ADDICTION
Child abuse is often a linking factor in history of substance abusers, Drug, Alcohol
or other risky behaviours would fall into the category of substance abuse. In this
essay I will discuss how I think child abuse aids is a direct cause of substance abuse
in adults later in life, in addition to evidence supporting my thesis which is the fact
child abuse is a linking factor to substance abuse. Two thirds of adults in drug
treatment were either physically, sexually or emotionally abused during their
childhood (Unknown, 2015). Almost all women that reside in Canada s drug capital

Constant stress in the environment during child hood can contribute to adult
substance abuse. A few stressors could be parents fighting, family financial
struggles, divorce, death of a family member or constant moving. For some adults,
stressors could lead to developed feelings of being unwanted or feeling lonely and
could result in the abuse of drugs to cope with the stressors endured during their

College Essay On Self Identity
Self Identity
Everyone has more than one face, they may fail to realize it but others around
them do notice. I have many faces for many different reasons and for many
different people, I have one for my family, one for my friends, one for my
employer, and one for just about any other specific group of people. I used to not
notice until I was called out on it by one of my cousins; she exclaimed that way I
act around my non relative friends was not the way I acted around them and that
made her upset. Ever since that incident I have been fully aware of the way I act,
however not much has changed. Around my parents I act in a way that is intended
to meet their expectations, I ll speak to them respectfully and politely and do
whatever they ask me to do. This way I can keep them happy, there have been
instances where humor is involved and the way we communicate can become a

It is taking a whole different person perspective to a new level. My friends and I all

When I attend tournaments with my friends we engage in the culture the FGC has

Calpurnia In To Kill A Mockingbird
To begin with, I am characterizing Atticus Finch s courageous and caring
behaviors. First, Atticus is choosing to defend this black man named Tom
Robinson, which shows that Atticus is courageous. Any lawyer in Maycomb
would not even consider helping a black person in court, but Atticus does. That
shows that he is mentally separated from everybody else in Maycomb because he
is choosing to help a black man. In that time period, it was rare for a white person
to help a black person. Atticus knows that he has no chance to prove that Tom is not
guilty, but he helps him because he is courageous. His choices to help a black man
in a time of racism shows that he is courageous. It is also important because it shows
that Atticus is separated socially... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
First, Calpurnia is relevant to the Finch family. In chapter three she says, but you ain t
called on to contradict em at the table when they don t (Lee 32). That comment
confirms that Calpurnia is trying to teach Scout manners and to be polite to their
guests. That is important because it shows how Calpurnia is relevant to the Finch
family, if she would not have said anything, Walter would have thought that Scout
was even more rude than he already did. To illustrate my point, Aunt Alexandra is not
a better mother than Calpurnia because she does not teach the kids manners, she just
tells them what they are doing wrong in a mean way. Next, Calpurnia does not stress
out the Finch family, while Alexandra is best at stressing their family out without
even trying. She stressed out the family when she declared her opinion about
Calpurnia, we don t need her now (Lee 182). Therefore, Aunt Alexandra and the Finch
family are mentally separated, an example of them being mentally separated is that
Alexandra thinks Atticus does not need Calpurnia anymore because she is there. The
Finch family thinks that they need Calpurnia more than ever in this time of hardship.
What Aunt Alexandra said that about Calpurnia caused a great amount of stress and
fighting within the Finch family. All that stress that Aunt Alexandra causes proves
that she is not a better mom than Calpurnia. Finally, Calpurnia is a better mother then
Aunt Alexandra because she is strict. Aunt Alexandra cares way more about
appearances and she still is strict in a different way. In chapter fourteen, Atticus says,
If anything, she s been harder on them in some ways than a mother would have
been... she s never let them get away with anything (Lee 183). Her actions display the
importance of her strictness with the kids, but only because she wants the best that
she can provide for them. Aunt Alexandra on the other hand is
How Did Leonardo Da Vinci Influence Art
LEONARDO DA VINCI One of the most famous artists of the Italian Renaissance
was Leonardo da Vinci. Da Vincis work in art and science made him well known.
Leonardo da Vincis personal life and relationships greatly effected his art.
Leonardo was born in Anchiano on April, 15,1452. Da Vincis parents were Piero

Brunauer-Emmett-Teller Essay
After finished completing this assignment, our understanding about the Brunauer
Emmett Teller (BET) instrument have increased. All of us able to calculate the
specific surface area of the powder , knew the right standard operating procedure to
run the Brunauer Emmett Teller (BET) instrument and more efficient in handling
the calculation involving the graph . However , the specific surface area for our
sample might low than the expected due to some possible error that might occur.
The first possible error might be due to the wrong de gassed temperature for the
sample. Before the sample been analysed, it have to go through the out gassing or
de gassing. The purpose of de gassing is to remove gases and vapours that may
have become physically adsorbed onto the surface after manufacture and during
treatment, handling and storage. However, if de gassing not achievable, the
specific surface area may be reduced or may be variable because an intermediate
area of the surface is covered with molecules of the previously adsorbed gases or
vapours. Thus, the de gassing is an important technique that need to take account
before analysing any sample. In our case, we accidentally put lower de gassing
temperature (105в„ѓ) that totally alter the precision and accuracy of specific surface
area measurements. The next possible error is the efficient of the instrument. The

12 Years a Slave movie-analysis Essay
12 Years a Slave
The movie В«12 Years a slaveВ» is based on the book В«12 Years a SlaveВ» by
Soloman Northup. It s his life story of how he got lured in a trap and kidnapped in
1841. It s about how he was sold into slavery in the south, and what happened during
those 12 years a slave .
The movie was released in 2013, but the book was first published in 1853. The
setting of the movie was in the US, mostly in the states New York and Louisiana.
The film was directed by Steve McQueen, he s also known for directing the movies
В«HungerВ»(2008) and В«ShameВ»(2011).

He and others are then put on a boat to Louisiana where they re sold. Soloman is
sold to a plantation owner for 1000$, and is sent with him to his home. He works
there for quite a while, but there s a conflict between him and one of the
В«MastersВ» there, which makes him have to leave to another plantation to work.
There s a lot of complications, and he s in the middle of a lot of it. He meets different
persons, and one of them is the savior to his 12 year lasting hell. There is a man who
helps free Soloman from slavery, who helps him become a free man again.
The movie takes up a lot of subjects. One obvious is slavery. There is also
discrimination of women and human trafficking.
When one of the plantation owners talk down to his wife, and treats her like she has
nothing to say about stuff, it shows how he thinks of her as less than himself. He
discriminates her infront of the slaves.
Human trafficking is because that s what they ve did when they kidnapped Soloman
and brought him somewhere else to sell him as a slave.
The plot is not presented in a chonological way. It starts off with him as a slave, and
then it goes back to how he actually became one.
I found to symbols that I remember most. The first one is when he breaks the violin
that he s written his familys name on. I take that as a symbol of him loosing hope.

The Role Of Classical Rational Models Of Decision Making
There are things in life many people will never understand. Sometimes, that is how
things are suppose to be because some things just aren t explainable. In the
documentary, How to Die in Oregon, I ve learned that when it comes to making
conclusions regarding someone else, judging them is not a plausible act. There are,
however, decision making processes that can possibly let us understand how an
individual comes to difficult decisions. The use of classical rational models of
decision making as well as the costbenefit analysis can help determine such
settlements. The documentary How to Die in Oregon is centered around people
making difficult decisions. These decisions are ones that many people do not
understand. On one side, the family may look at the decision of the terminally ill
individual as selfish. In the video, there were families that came to terms with their
loved ones decision. Then, there were outsiders who thought the idea was purely
ludicrous and refused to understand the whole concept. The death with dignity law
grants terminally ill people the right to not have to go through excruciating pain for
excess amounts of time. Some people may never understand the amount of pain
these individuals go through, which is why they are a bit ignorant to the law in
general. They look at it as flat out suicide which goes against their beliefs. Moreover,
looking at the classical rational model of decision making could further explain how
individuals make their choice.
Bacterial Unknown Lab Report
There are many differents ways to identify a bacterial unknown and many different
situations where identification would be beneficial. One way to identify bacterial
unknowns is to perform biochemical tests. In this experiment multiple biochemical
tests were done, by performing these tests on the bacterial unknown received the two
different bacteriawere then identified. The citrate test is done to test the ability of
organisms to use citrate as a carbon source. This test uses Simmons citrate agar, the
agar contains sodium citrate as the only carbon source and has bromothymol blue as
the pH indicator. The organisms that use citrate as a carbon source use the enzymeto
transport the citrate into the cell. The cells converts ammonium dihydrogen... Show

One of these reasons is in regards to pathogens. If a bacterium is pathogenic, it is
important to know the identity of the bacteria so that its characteristics can be
examined and used in the treatment of the infected host. For example, if the
identification of an unknown pathogen leads to the knowledge that the pathogen
contains a beta lactam ring in its cell wall, a drug targeting this cellular component
can be used in the treatment of this pathogen. If this information was unknown and
the pathogen did not contain a beta lactam, the drug would not help the infected
host. Another reason it is beneficial to identify unknown bacteria is for clinical
uses. Many pharmaceutical drugs are based upon or isolated from products made
by bacteria. Penicillin is an obvious example of a beneficial drug that was isolated
from a mold. By identifying new bacteria and discovering the unique properties of
a new or under researched species, beneficial medical products may be able to be
derived or produced as a result. A third important reason to identify bacterial
unknowns can tie into the safety and conservation of the environment. Because of
the varying properties and abilities of bacteria, it is beneficial to identify bacteria
that may be able to help clean up human impact. For example, Alcanivorax
borkumensis, is a bacterium that has been discovered to aid in the cleanup of spilled
petroleum. Other bacteria have been discovered to aid in eating pollution and other
toxins in water. The identification of important bacteria such as these can lead to
increased efforts in environmental conservation that use a more organic clean up
approach.
Capitalism, Racism, Exploitation, And War
Capitalism, I assert is a domineering worldwide system that has allowed for the
cultivation of racism, exploitation and war to exceed through the economic and
ideologies of capitalism. The emergence is compassed through relations and mode of
production and projected onto the superstructures of politics and constructing mental
production for accomplishing the aims of the system. The accomplishment comes at
ease through globalisation to expand ideas of labour theory value and division of
labour and hence allows for the firm grip on granting generations of exploitation, war
and racism.
Political economist like Adam Smith and Karl Marx have investigated the capitalist
system and both have demonstrated the links to exploitation, racism and ... Show

For Marx he states From each according to his ability,to each according to his need
is conceptually related to the concept of a division of labour allows for specialisation
as an intrinsic part of the economic system and the concept is associated with the
capitalist system. For Smith categorising individual skills is the greatest potential for
economic growth and he is interested in a free economic system.
With this categorisation of states and individuals there is a silent rupture of
racism, and the categorisation is placed through into the economic system. Third
world countries are not poor because they have lagged behind the transformation or
the enlightenment values of the European state. Its due to the colonial expansion,
countries were integrated into European economic system as producers of raw
materials and serve as cheap labourers and through the tools of power and
globalisation it is still continued. The power during colonialism was the weapons
that forced large populations to adapt a new way of life depicting western culture
and values and yet is still placed at the bottom of the societal pyramid. The idea of
degrading positions in the social economic system has developed throughout the
world and is reflected in state apparatus structures and the global capitalist structure
by making racism a by product. Even in western nations certain historical skills are
associated with the race and creates hierarchy, so for instance the
Organ Systems And The Nervous System Essay
The six main organ systems in the human body are the nervous system,
cardiovascular system, endocrine system, digestive system, skeletal system and the
reproductive system.
Nervous System
There are two parts to the nervous system which are: the central nervous system and
the peripheral nervous system. The central nervous system includes the brain and
spinal cord and some nerves, whereas the peripheral nervous system includes all the
other nerves and it carries information to the central nervous system and also from it.
The central nervous acts as the central control region of the human nervous system.
The CNS processes information and issues commands around the body. The
autonomic nervous system is the command network the CNS uses to maintain the
body s homeostasis. It regulates heartbeat and controls muscle contractions in the
walls of blood vessels, digestive, urinary, and reproductive tracts. It also carries
messages that help stimulate glands to secrete tears, mucus, and digestive enzymes.
Central nervous system
A response to a stimulus is coordinated by its central nervous system (CNS). The
CNS consists of the brain and the spinal cord. It gathers information about, and
responds to, changes in the environment. Receptors detect a stimulus and send
impulses along sensory neurons to the CNS. The CNS coordinates the information
and sends impulses along motor neurons to the effectors, which bring about a
response.
The sequence of a response is:

The Mythical Man Month By Frederick P. Brooks Jr. Essay

mentioned in the text of the book The Mythical Man Month by Frederick P.
Brooks Jr. In addition, I will present my answers to the questions about the
intangibility of the software and the increasing cost connected with higher
reliability requirements. The last part presents my views which dependability
attributes could be most crucial in four real life systems. Body Question 1: Using
The Mythical Man Month reading found on the course homepage, read the project
problems mentioned in the text. List the difficulties and errors that occurred in
these failed programming projects. One of the project problems mentioned by
Brooks Jr. in Chapter 12 of his book The Mythical Man Month is the problem with
program maintenance. According to him fixing a bug has around 20 to 50%
chances of introducing another one. As explanation he shows two reasons: first one
is that in most of the projects the structure of documentation in not clear, precise
and does not describe all dependencies that exist in the system and second is that
the programmer who is repairing the system is typically not the same as the one
who composed the code at development (Brooks Jr., 1995). So in order one project
not to fail there should be more system testing per statement written then in the other
cases. Brooks suggest that after fixing each bug an entire bank of previous test cases
should be run against the system (Brooks Jr., 1995). But

Analysis Of Rene Descartes Discourse On The Method Essay
Rene Descartes Discourse on the Method focuses on distinguishing the human
rationale, apart from animals and robots. Wherein, he does so by explaining how
neither animals, nor machines possess the same mental faculties as humans. For
Descartes distinguishes the human rationale apart from non humans, even though he
does agree the two closely resemble each other because of their sense organs, and
physical functions (Descartes, pp22). Nevertheless, it is because the mechanical lacks
a necessary aspect of the mind, which consequently separates them from humans. For
in Descartes Discourse on the Method, he argues that the noteworthy difference
between humans, and the mechanical is that machines are only responding to the
world through of their sense organs. Whereas humans possess the significant faculties
of reasoning, which allows them to understand external inputs and information
obtained from the surrounding environment. This significantly creates a dividing line
, which separates humans from non humans. For in this paper, I will firstly
distinguish the differences between the human and mechanical s mentality in regards
to Descartes Discourse on the Method . Secondly, I will theorize a modern AI that
could possess the concept of an intellectual mind, and then hypothesize a powerful AI
that lacks the ability to understand its intelligence. Lastly, in disagreeing in why there
are no such machines that is equivalent to the human mind. For humans don t possess

tool used extensively by Hitler and the Nazi s during their terrorizing reign of
Germany and throughout Europe. Not only was it used to promote and endorse the

Karl points out that the lips are another distinguishing feature; they are usually puffed

Another fundamental example of radical anti Semitic press was the newspaper

Semitic caricatures, accused Jews of plotting secret plans against the German
government, promoted the idea of Jewish seduction and even called for the
annihilation of all Jews in 1941. The passionate language by the writers and crafty
manipulation of the readers is evident in a 1935 article written by Ernst

The history of this grand city goes all the way back to the 13th century. It came

Biological Reactions Of Chemical Reactions Essay
Problem:
There are thousands of chemical reactions that occur in an organism that make life
possible. Most of these chemical reactions occur too slowly on their own. Enzymes
are protein catalysts that speed up chemical reactions in a cell. Catalysts are not
changed by the reactions they control, and are not used up during the reaction.
Enzymes therefore, can be used over and over again. Enzymes are large complex
proteins made by the cell and allow chemical reactions to take place at the
temperature of the cell. These catalysts are needed in only very small amounts
because a single enzyme molecule can complete the same reaction thousands of times
in one minute.
Each enzyme is very specific and can only catalyze a certain reaction. The specific
reaction catalyzed by an enzyme depends on the molecular structure and shape of a
small area of the enzyme s surface called the active site. The active site an attract and
hold only its specific molecules. The target molecule that the enzyme attracts and acts
upon is called the substrate. The substrate and the active site of the molecule must fit
together very closely. Sometimes the enzyme changes its shape slightly to bring
about the necessary fit.
A chemical reaction requires that bonds in the reactants be broken. The initial energy
that must be absorbed in order to break the bonds of the reactant molecule is called
the energy of activation. Enzymes work by lowering the energy of activation. For
example,

established primarily for the retailing of food. A grocer or the owner of a grocery
store, stocks different kinds of foods from assorted places and cultures, and sells
them to customers. Large grocery stores that stock products in their inventory, such as
clothing or household items, are called supermarkets. Small grocery stores that
mainly sell fruits and vegetables are known as produce markets, and small grocery
stores that predominantly sell snack foods and sandwiches are known as convenience
stores or delicatessens. Manual Inventory System involves all concerns within its

and Rioja wine regions. Production and marketing professionals from eight wineries
hosted our student group and provided facility tours and insights on production,

Since the 1990 s, Spain has entered the global market to claim its position as a high
quality value wine producer (www.winesfromspain.com). Spain s rich wine history
together with it s relatively new global market entry and cost leadership strategy
makes an interesting blend of old world and new world characteristics. State of the
Industry Wine is a significant part of Spain s cultural identity and economy. The
sector represents Spain s third largest agriculture crop after cereals and olives, and it
leads the world in vineyard land with 1.16 million hectares
(www.foodswinesfromspain.com). However, most the land is arid and sparsely
planted. Yet, it holds third position globally in wine volume produced (Rubio, 2010).
Although Spain has a traditional wine and food culture, domestic consumption
continues to decline. The decreased consumption is attributed to strict drunk driving
laws impacting restaurant sales and the rise of alternative drinks such as mineral
water (Carrion and Albaladejo, 2010). Also, millennials tend to not drink wine. In
fact, the characteristic Spanish wine drinker is an older male with a preference for
high quality aged DO red wines that drinks at home, an aging demographic. Spain s
domestic market consumes 28.2 liters per capita compared to France at 50 liters per
capita necessitating an aggressive export strategy (Mtimet and Albisu; Minjares).

Essay on Exploring Time Travel
An essential requirement for the possibility of time travel is the presumption that
future and past were somehow real. But according to one popular view only the
present is real, and to suppose that the past or future are also real is to suppose that
the past and the future are also present a contradiction. According to this sort of
Heraclitean metaphysical conception, the future is genuinely open: there is no realm
of determinate future fact, no denizens of the future to identify or talk about, though
of course in the fullness of timethere will be. Travel to the future on this view would
be ruled out because there is simply nowhere to go.
The past, though, is spoken of as fixed and determinate and not subject to change. ...

(Ayer 1956, p. 158).
It is well known that chronological discrepancies arise in connection with the special
and general theories of relativity, quite independently of the question of time travel.
But relativistic chronological discrepancies are benign in way that time travel
discrepancies are not. What would count as a case of travelling into the past? We
can conceive that after a certain time having experiences which are exactly like
those of 1920. It is just this kind of thought experiment that makes time travel
conceivable. But we would not be compelled to treat such experiences as decisive
evidence of having traveled into the past. They might be taken as evidence of serious
cognitive disorder, for example.
David Lewis has argued that time travel stories are perfectly coherent and it is
instructive to examine his defense of the possibility of time travel. Lewis does not
reject, but accept the reality of future and past. The world we live in, according to
Lewis, is a Parmenidean world: a four dimensional manifold of events and the
occupants of the world are four dimensional aggregates of stages timelike streaks
(1976, p. 145). However a time traveler is not like other aggregates; if he travels
towards the past he is a zig zag streak (1976, p. 146). There might also be stretched
out streaks which are travelers into
Smoothing Dat The Estition Of Variance In Data
ESTIMATION OF VARIANCE IN HETEROSCEDASTIC DATA
Abstract
Data which exhibit none constant variance is considered. Smoothing procedures are
applied to estimate these none constant variances. In these smoothing methods the
problem is to establish how much to smooth. The choice of the smoother and the
choice of the bandwidth are explored. Kernel and Spline smoothers are compared
using simulated data as well as real data. Although the two seem to work very closely,
Kernel smoother comes out to be slightly better.
KEY WORDS: Smoothing, Kernel, Spline, Heteroscedastic, Bandwidth, Variance. 1.

Given the errors are independently distributed. However if any of these assumptions
are violated the estimates obtained under the classical or usual assumption are not
good. Therefore we hope to obtain better estimates of when the estimation of the
variance is incorporated.
Therefore, we need to investigate and incorporate the information about the variance
estimates of the errors which are needed for better understanding of the variability of
the data. In heteroscedastic regression models the variance is not constant. Often as
in the case with the mean, the heteroscedasity is believed to be in functional form
which is referred to as variance function. We try to understand the structure of the
variances as a function of the predictors such as time, height, age and so on. Two
procedures of estimating the variance function includes the parametric and
nonparametric methods. The parametric variance function estimation may be defined
as a type of regression problem in which we see variance as a function of estimable
quantities. Thus, the heteroscedasticity is modeled as a function of the regression
and other structural parameters. This function is completely known, specified up to
these unknown parameters. Estimation of these parameters is what entails parametric
methods.
However, for many practical problems the degree to which components of the
statistical model can be specified in a parametric form varies

However, delving into the intricacies of this iconic saga can pose a challenge, not because of a lack of content but due to the sheer magnitude and depth of the Star Wars universe. The difficulty arises from the need to balance a comprehensive exploration of the franchise's rich history, characters, and themes while maintaining focus on a specific aspect or argument. Social Commentary On Slavery In Huckleberry Finn Mark Twain s Social Commentary on Slavery in Huckleberry Finn Huckleberry Finn, written by Mark Twain over seven years, is considered one of the best American masterpieces ever published, and a novel that Twain used to make social statements about the treatment of blacks. The novel follows Jim, a slave, on his journey from captivity to slavery. Along the journey, Twain makes claims about slavery and racial inequalities. Throughout the novel Huckleberry Finn, Mark Twain discussed the paradox of slavery in a free country and expressed a clear social statement about the unfair treatment of different races; by drawing upon the history of slavery in the United States and it s impact on his life, he tied slavery into the novel and made these statements Slavery was prevalent in the United States during the period in U.S. history when the story of Huckleberry Finn takes place. The first slave arrived in the United States in 1619, and, as a result of runaway slaves receiving freedom in the North (Jim s intent), the Fugitive Slave Act of 1950 mandated that escaped Southern slaves had to be returned to captivity. Slavery was abolished in 1862, when President Abraham Lincoln freed slaves with the Emancipation Proclamation. During the mid 18th century, slavery was often a hot topic, as the North and South debated over whether it was morally, and lawfully, right. Senator Charles Sumner, in 1848, brought this issue to the forefront when he decried an ...unhallowed union ... between the

And as most Russians will tell you, food is a huge part of their culture. I grew up with so many diverse food on my plate over the year and simply assumed that that was just what everyone ate until I started going to school and noticing other kids lunches, and they started to notice mine. But at the heart of my semi Russian experience there are four foods that seem to best capture the ideal Russian dishes. Aspic gelatin Cow tongue Hunter bacon Cabbage roll Now of course I could go on with lots a delicious Russian dishes such as pelmeni, and shuba, and blin, and oh my gosh I complete forgot to have lunch. Each of those dishes gives a better ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Picture this, jello, except not at all, because this jello has had the artificial fruity goodness life sucked out of it and some genius had the brilliant idea to replace it with chicken of all things. The concept of it is just so bizarre. Why would anyone want to submerge perfectly good chicken in gelatin? The answer to that question is beyond me but somehow this giggly abomination on a silver platter plate is one of my mom s favorite dishes. So whenever it shows up at these Russian parties I keep my mouth shut, in hopes not to say anything that would insult her tastes, nor allow the chicken gelatin to find its way in. Another Russian dish that not a particular favorite of mine would be cow tongue. It s a very unusually dish to eat outside of the Russian community and if we re going to be honest its rather unusual to me as well. It seems more like something a middle school age boy would attempt to make his friends do on a dare rather than an actually palatable food. From first glance even before it enters your mouth something just seems off. It s such a drained, depressed, eeyore ish gray. And unlike how it is in beauty and the beast, the gray stuff is not delicious. As I begin to bite my tongue I m hit with the a rather unique texture, dead cow s taste buds. The taste itself, incredibly bland, and the meat, very soft and chewy. It s almost too soft really, in that it would be easy for herbivores to eat it, even with their complete lack of canines. While

Gabriel Garcia Marquez Research Paper Many authors like to write fantasy novels, stories that detached themselves from reality, novels that tell us about magic, parallel dimensions, between others. But even in these fictional stories there is still the presence of the universal themes that can be touched not only in this kind of novels but also in the simpler ones, themes like the fight between good and evil, love, between others. Essentially, Doc Holliday was friends with a William Leonard, who was later implicated in an attempted stagecoach robbery, that resulted in the death of two of three passengers. Prior to this event, Holliday had had a number of run ins with an individual by the name of Milt Joyce. A number of times Holliday was arrested and taken to court for assault. These charges were often dropped after Holliday paid court fees and the fines associated. Because of these confrontations and Holliday s relationship with Leonard, Holliday was accused of being a part of the gang (who mostly consisted of members of the Cowboy gang) who attempted to rob the stagecoach. To clear Holliday s name, the Earps (Wyatt, Virgil and Morgan) formed a posse that hunted down the other members of the gang. To find some of the men that could clear Holliday s name, Wyatt made a deal with Ike Clanton (a known Cowboy member), Wyatt would give Ike the reward money for the outlaws, if Ike would give information regarding their whereabouts[2]. Ike Clanton, on the other hand, denied such a deal occurring. He said that Wyatt approached him, but he [Ike] would have nothing to do with the deal [1]. When the outlaws were found, they (allegedly) resisted arrest and the outlaws in the party who could clear Holliday s name were killed. Robert Frostdexterously composed the poems Stopping by the woodson a snowy evening and Mending Wall to reflect the ambiguous nature of man s interpretive expeditions. However, the lines retain a sense of echolalia, illustrating that the speaker s mind is transfixed in metaphysical contemplation. Frost consequently draws connotations to humanity s constant battle between lust for, and fear of, the unknown. Therefore, exploration into one s cognitive realm is denoted as tempting but potentially dangerous. However, Frost portrays this experience with positive overtones, describing the encounter as necessary. Frost inadvertently shows that through self exploration, an individual can understand their worth. Therefore, self analysis generates a shaped perception of an individual s civil necessity. Individual citizenship expedites a greater comprehension of social mechanics. Civil machinations are duly exposed when examined from multiple perspectives beginning with the individual. Frost alludes to this notion in Mending wall by highlighting the varying opinions of man. The colloquial and and But are used as multiple sentence starters, eliciting a familiar rapport. However, this is juxtaposed by the allegorical walk the line that draws adverse connotations to society s influence on private thought. Frost furthers this notion through the deplorative tonality when mentioning the motif of the wall . Additionally, the archaic imagery of he moves in darkness continues the impression of a growing antipathy. Frost employs these to showcase the disparity between the speaker s distaste for boundaries

The Mask You Live In Analysis The Mask You Live In is a 2015 American documentary film that covers the topic of hyper masculinity in American society and its effects on the development of boys in this country. The primary argument that this film makes is that it is highly unrealistic for men to live up to the standard of hyper masculinity that our society as created and forced upon them. In fact, the film makes the argument that menwho try to live up to these standards are setting themselves up for failure because many of them fall in to deep depression as they fail to measure up to society s skewed idea of masculinity. This film uses various interviews from many different individuals including a single father, victims of abuse, and teachers in order to support the overall claim that it is trying to make along with going into some of the effects that hypermasculinity has on boys as they grow up. Overall, I feel that this film does a fantastic job of communicating both the dangers of trying to live up to a frankly outdated model of masculinity as well as showing how unrealistic this standard of masculinity is in modern society. On the topic of masculinity, the film goes into the causes of the current standard that society has set for how to be a man and how it ends up effecting boys as they grow up in American society. The documentary also describes how society links athletic ability to successfully doing gender as a man. During this scene, former NFL player Joe Ehrmann states how he feels that this way

In chapter three she says, but you ain t called on to contradict em at the table when they don t (Lee 32). That comment confirms that Calpurnia is trying to teach Scout manners and to be polite to their guests. That is important because it shows how Calpurnia is relevant to the Finch family, if she would not have said anything, Walter would have thought that Scout was even more rude than he already did. To illustrate my point, Aunt Alexandra is not a better mother than Calpurnia because she does not teach the kids manners, she just tells them what they are doing wrong in a mean way. Next, Calpurnia does not stress out the Finch family, while Alexandra is best at stressing their family out without even trying. She stressed out the family when she declared her opinion about Calpurnia, we don t need her now (Lee 182). Therefore, Aunt Alexandra and the Finch family are mentally separated, an example of them being mentally separated is that Alexandra thinks Atticus does not need Calpurnia anymore because she is there. What Aunt Alexandra said that about Calpurnia caused a great amount of stress and fighting within the Finch family. All that stress that Aunt Alexandra causes proves that she is not a better mom than Calpurnia. Finally, Calpurnia is a better mother then Aunt Alexandra because she is strict. The movie was released in 2013, but the book was first published in 1853. The setting of the movie was in the US, mostly in the states New York and Louisiana. The film was directed by Steve McQueen, he s also known for directing the movies В«HungerВ»(2008) and В«ShameВ»(2011). I would say that this movie is an example of the genre drama. It s a historical drama film. That is a genre which examines a spesific time in history or group of people. In this case ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He and others are then put on a boat to Louisiana where they re sold. Soloman is sold to a plantation owner for 1000$, and is sent with him to his home. He works there for quite a while, but there s a conflict between him and one of the В«MastersВ» there, which makes him have to leave to another plantation to work. There s a lot of complications, and he s in the middle of a lot of it. He meets different persons, and one of them is the savior to his 12 year lasting hell. There is a man who helps free Soloman from slavery, who helps him become a free man again. The movie takes up a lot of subjects. One obvious is slavery. There is also discrimination of women and human trafficking. When one of the plantation owners talk down to his wife, and treats her like she has nothing to say about stuff, it shows how he thinks of her as less than himself. He discriminates her infront of the slaves. Human trafficking is because that s what they ve did when they kidnapped Soloman and brought him somewhere else to sell him as a slave. The plot is not presented in a chonological way. It starts off with him as a slave, and then it goes back to how he actually became one. I found to symbols that I remember most. The first one is when he breaks the violin that he s written his familys name on. I take that as a symbol of him loosing hope. Giving up. He no longer believes he ll get home again, safe with his family. The second symbol is
  • 25. The Role Of Classical Rational Models Of Decision Making There are things in life many people will never understand. Sometimes, that is how things are suppose to be because some things just aren t explainable. In the documentary, How to Die in Oregon, I ve learned that when it comes to making conclusions regarding someone else, judging them is not a plausible act. There are, however, decision making processes that can possibly let us understand how an individual comes to difficult decisions. The use of classical rational models of decision making as well as the costbenefit analysis can help determine such settlements. The documentary How to Die in Oregon is centered around people making difficult decisions. These decisions are ones that many people do not understand. On one side, the family may look at the decision of the terminally ill individual as selfish. In the video, there were families that came to terms with their loved ones decision. Then, there were outsiders who thought the idea was purely ludicrous and refused to understand the whole concept. The death with dignity law grants terminally ill people the right to not have to go through excruciating pain for excess amounts of time. Some people may never understand the amount of pain these individuals go through, which is why they are a bit ignorant to the law in general. They look at it as flat out suicide which goes against their beliefs. Moreover, looking at the classical rational model of decision making could further explain how individuals make their choice.

One way to identify bacterial unknowns is to perform biochemical tests. In this experiment multiple biochemical tests were done, by performing these tests on the bacterial unknown received the two different bacteriawere then identified. The citrate test is done to test the ability of organisms to use citrate as a carbon source. This test uses Simmons citrate agar, the agar contains sodium citrate as the only carbon source and has bromothymol blue as the pH indicator. The organisms that use citrate as a carbon source use the enzymeto transport the citrate into the cell. The cells converts ammonium dihydrogen... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One of these reasons is in regards to pathogens. If a bacterium is pathogenic, it is important to know the identity of the bacteria so that its characteristics can be examined and used in the treatment of the infected host. For example, if the identification of an unknown pathogen leads to the knowledge that the pathogen contains a beta lactam ring in its cell wall, a drug targeting this cellular component can be used in the treatment of this pathogen. If this information was unknown and the pathogen did not contain a beta lactam, the drug would not help the infected host. Another reason it is beneficial to identify unknown bacteria is for clinical uses. Many pharmaceutical drugs are based upon or isolated from products made by bacteria. Penicillin is an obvious example of a beneficial drug that was isolated from a mold. By identifying new bacteria and discovering the unique properties of a new or under researched species, beneficial medical products may be able to be derived or produced as a result. A third important reason to identify bacterial unknowns can tie into the safety and conservation of the environment. Because of the varying properties and abilities of bacteria, it is beneficial to identify bacteria that may be able to help clean up human impact. For example, Alcanivorax borkumensis, is a bacterium that has been discovered to aid in the cleanup of spilled petroleum. Other bacteria have been discovered to aid in eating pollution and other toxins in water. The identification of important bacteria such as these can lead to increased efforts in environmental conservation that use a more organic clean up approach.

  • 28. Organ Systems And The Nervous System Essay The six main organ systems in the human body are the nervous system, cardiovascular system, endocrine system, digestive system, skeletal system and the reproductive system. Nervous System There are two parts to the nervous system which are: the central nervous system and the peripheral nervous system. The central nervous system includes the brain and spinal cord and some nerves, whereas the peripheral nervous system includes all the other nerves and it carries information to the central nervous system and also from it. The central nervous acts as the central control region of the human nervous system. The CNS processes information and issues commands around the body. The autonomic nervous system is the command network the CNS uses to maintain the body s homeostasis. It regulates heartbeat and controls muscle contractions in the walls of blood vessels, digestive, urinary, and reproductive tracts. It also carries messages that help stimulate glands to secrete tears, mucus, and digestive enzymes. Central nervous system A response to a stimulus is coordinated by its central nervous system (CNS). The CNS consists of the brain and the spinal cord. It gathers information about, and responds to, changes in the environment. Receptors detect a stimulus and send impulses along sensory neurons to the CNS. The CNS coordinates the information and sends impulses along motor neurons to the effectors, which bring about a response. The sequence of a response is:

List the difficulties and errors that occurred in these failed programming projects. One of the project problems mentioned by Brooks Jr. in Chapter 12 of his book The Mythical Man Month is the problem with program maintenance. According to him fixing a bug has around 20 to 50% chances of introducing another one. As explanation he shows two reasons: first one is that in most of the projects the structure of documentation in not clear, precise and does not describe all dependencies that exist in the system and second is that the programmer who is repairing the system is typically not the same as the one who composed the code at development (Brooks Jr., 1995). So in order one project not to fail there should be more system testing per statement written then in the other cases. Brooks suggest that after fixing each bug an entire bank of previous test cases should be run against the system (Brooks Jr., 1995). But

Wherein, he does so by explaining how neither animals, nor machines possess the same mental faculties as humans. For Descartes distinguishes the human rationale apart from non humans, even though he does agree the two closely resemble each other because of their sense organs, and physical functions (Descartes, pp22). Nevertheless, it is because the mechanical lacks a necessary aspect of the mind, which consequently separates them from humans. For in Descartes Discourse on the Method, he argues that the noteworthy difference between humans, and the mechanical is that machines are only responding to the world through of their sense organs. Whereas humans possess the significant faculties of reasoning, which allows them to understand external inputs and information obtained from the surrounding environment. This significantly creates a dividing line , which separates humans from non humans. For in this paper, I will firstly distinguish the differences between the human and mechanical s mentality in regards to Descartes Discourse on the Method . Lastly, in disagreeing in why there are no such machines that is equivalent to the human mind. For humans don t possess all the

  • 38. Biological Reactions Of Chemical Reactions Essay Problem: There are thousands of chemical reactions that occur in an organism that make life possible. Most of these chemical reactions occur too slowly on their own. Enzymes are protein catalysts that speed up chemical reactions in a cell. Catalysts are not changed by the reactions they control, and are not used up during the reaction. Enzymes therefore, can be used over and over again. Enzymes are large complex proteins made by the cell and allow chemical reactions to take place at the temperature of the cell. These catalysts are needed in only very small amounts because a single enzyme molecule can complete the same reaction thousands of times in one minute. Each enzyme is very specific and can only catalyze a certain reaction. The specific reaction catalyzed by an enzyme depends on the molecular structure and shape of a small area of the enzyme s surface called the active site. The active site an attract and hold only its specific molecules. The target molecule that the enzyme attracts and acts upon is called the substrate. The substrate and the active site of the molecule must fit together very closely. Sometimes the enzyme changes its shape slightly to bring about the necessary fit. A chemical reaction requires that bonds in the reactants be broken. The initial energy that must be absorbed in order to break the bonds of the reactant molecule is called the energy of activation. Enzymes work by lowering the energy of activation. For example,

But according to one popular view only the present is real, and to suppose that the past or future are also real is to suppose that the past and the future are also present a contradiction. According to this sort of Heraclitean metaphysical conception, the future is genuinely open: there is no realm of determinate future fact, no denizens of the future to identify or talk about, though of course in the fullness of timethere will be. Travel to the future on this view would be ruled out because there is simply nowhere to go. The past, though, is spoken of as fixed and determinate and not subject to change. ... It is well known that chronological discrepancies arise in connection with the special and general theories of relativity, quite independently of the question of time travel. But relativistic chronological discrepancies are benign in way that time travel discrepancies are not. What would count as a case of travelling into the past? We can conceive that after a certain time having experiences which are exactly like those of 1920. It is just this kind of thought experiment that makes time travel conceivable. But we would not be compelled to treat such experiences as decisive evidence of having traveled into the past. They might be taken as evidence of serious cognitive disorder, for example. David Lewis has argued that time travel stories are perfectly coherent and it is instructive to examine his defense of the possibility of time travel. Lewis does not reject, but accept the reality of future and past. The world we live in, according to Lewis, is a Parmenidean world: a four dimensional manifold of events and the occupants of the world are four dimensional aggregates of stages timelike streaks (1976, p. 145). However a time traveler is not like other aggregates; if he travels towards the past he is a zig zag streak (1976, p. 146). There might also be stretched out streaks which are travelers into

Given the errors are independently distributed. However if any of these assumptions are violated the estimates obtained under the classical or usual assumption are not good. Therefore we hope to obtain better estimates of when the estimation of the variance is incorporated. Therefore, we need to investigate and incorporate the information about the variance estimates of the errors which are needed for better understanding of the variability of the data. In heteroscedastic regression models the variance is not constant. Often as in the case with the mean, the heteroscedasity is believed to be in functional form which is referred to as variance function. We try to understand the structure of the variances as a function of the predictors such as time, height, age and so on. Two procedures of estimating the variance function includes the parametric and nonparametric methods. The parametric variance function estimation may be defined as a type of regression problem in which we see variance as a function of estimable quantities. Thus, the heteroscedasticity is modeled as a function of the regression and other structural parameters. This function is completely known, specified up to these unknown parameters. Estimation of these parameters is what entails parametric methods. However, for many practical problems the degree to which components of the statistical model can be specified in a parametric form varies
