Similarities And Differences Between Socialism And Socialism
Socialism
Socialism is a economic and political system in which the means of production operate under public
political ownership, sometimes called common ownership. Common ownership under socialism
may take shape through technocratic, oligarchic, totalitarian, democratic or even voluntary rule. All
legal production and distribution decisions are made by the ruling class.
Historical examples of socialist countries include the Nazi Germany and Soviet Union. Today s
examples include Venezuela, Cuba and China. Due to its practical challenges and poor track
record, socialism is sometimes referred to as a utopian or post scarcity system, although modern
adherents believe it could work if properly implemented.
A slogan for socialism is from each ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The government should not interfere in the economies of the free market, meaning, the market
determines investments, production, distribution and decisions, and government interference is
only allowed when making and enforcing rules or policies governing the conduct of business.
There is a need for continual production and purchase for a capitalistic economy to operate
efficiently, and Capitalists believe that government does not use economic resources as efficiently
as private enterprise.
Differences between Capitalism and Socialism
1.The economic system, in which the trade and industry are owned and controlled by private
individuals is known as Capitalism. Socialism, on the other hand, is also an economic system,
where the economic activities are owned and regulated by the state itself.
2.The basis of capitalism is the principal of individual rights, whereas socialism is based on the
principle of equality.
3.Capitalism encourages innovation and individual goals while Socialism promotes equality and
fairness among

Understanding Processes and Procedures for Storing and...
Understanding processes and procedures for storing and retrieving information 1.1 Explain the
purpose of storing and retrieving required information The purpose of storing and retrieving
information is that if you needed to contact them again or ring them back you would have their
information there for you to retrieve. Therefore if any progress is made, you can update this or
make notes on what is relevant if another colleague needs to access this information. It is also
important because if a customer rings you, and the person who they have been dealing with is not
in, you can look at the data already stored for this person and be able to help them with what is
needed, so you are up to date too. 1.2 Describe different... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If the information needed does not meet the timescale it could be considered useless as the time
in which it was needed has passed. 1.8 Describe the types of information that may be deleted
Companies will always be collecting new data and renewing existing data. Types of information
that a company may delete is old data, out of data information, or information which has never been
used as this will take up storing space. Every company has a policy where it informs you of how
long data must be kept for before you can destroy it, therefore these policy s must be met before
destroying the data following confidentiality procedures. These include the deletion of electronic
information and shredding the paper information, or any information suitable for shredding. 1.9
Describe problems that may occur with information systems and how to deal with them when

information of everyone in the company, customers, clients, tenants and landlords will be on these

Analysis Of The Movie The Grand Parade
OILDORADO
MILLER, JEREMY
Last weekend in Taft, California, two hours north of Los Angeles, between the procession of
floats and marching bands, grown men in cowboy attire shot at one another with antique
revolvers, rifles and shotguns. The concussions rattled plate glass windows of stores along Center
Street, many of which stand vacant. As the men passed by, children rushed into the street to pick
up the spent cartridges, which they found mixed in with lollipops and pieces of gum. This is the
Grand Parade, the finale of Taft s Oildorado festival, an unbridled street party held every five years
to celebrate the region s patron industry oil.
A man on one float dressed as an oil smeared roughneck yelled, God bless Taft! and Made in
America! as he tipped a yellow hardhat toward the waving crowd. Another float ferried the Maids
of Petroleum, young beauty competition participants dressed in fishnet tights and Old West bustle
skirts. The competition winner, known as the Oil Queen, sat smiling in a white wicker throne
before a glittery cutout of a derrick gushing a rooster tail of crude.
Most associate the Central Valley with agriculture. But here in the dry southwestern corner of the
vast basin, oil is the undisputed king. The giant oil fields that envelop the town of 9,000 the
Midway Sunset, Cymric and Belridge are among the largest in the country, each having produced
over a billion barrels of oil. The landscape reflects that reality. Fields of pump jacks

Essay about The Fight Against Child Pornography
In recent years, pornography has established itself as perhaps the most controversial topic arising
out of the use of the Internet. The easy availability of this type of sexually explicit material has
caused a panic among government officials, family groups, religious groups and law enforcement
bodies and this panic has been perpetuated in the media.
One of the unique challenges to regulating or settling on the appropriate way to regulate is that
there is no concrete definition of pornography. While law enforcement bodies such as the police,
prosecutors and judges, are accustomed to dealing with issues that are exclusive to the United
States, the Internet is a worldwide community with servers and members coming ... Show more

The second real issue is finding a way to regulate and enforce the removal of material that is
agreed upon as being inappropriate for anyone to have on the Internet. I am specifically touching
on the issue of child pornography. While it is illegal in the United States, as it is in many countries,
government and law enforcement officials are having a difficult time catching offenders who post
this type of material. So with this type of problem concerning pornography this issue is not
deciding on appropriate means of regulation, but rather how to enforce the regulation already in
place.
It is obvious that for years, the government has been trying to regulate this type of content but has
seen very limited success. Part of the reason for this is because certain regulatory actions intended
to protect only a small group, such as children, should not require the prohibition of material that
adults have access to in other arenas. It is for example, legal for people to rent pornographic
movies or buy nude magazines, so distribution of this type of material on the Internet should not be
completely limited. People shouting out for protection of their 1st Amendment rights have made a
good point when arguing against complete censorship. What seems more feasible is a sort of multi
layered approach to regulate illegal and harmful content on the Net. This would make it possible to
form some sort of insulation for children

Bartleby the Scrivener Essay
Bartleby s Isolation and the Wall
Introduction:
Bartleby the Scrivener, A Story of Wall Street is a short story by Herman Melville in which the
narrator, a lawyer who runs a firm on Wall Street, tells the story of a rebellious scrivener who
worked for him named Bartleby. One day, Bartleby simply states I would prefer not to when asked
to do his normal copying duties as a scrivener (Melville). Soon Bartleby starts sleeping and eating
at the office, refusing to leave. Eventually the narrator decides his only option is to move out and
leave Bartleby there. Unfortunately the next tenant is not nearly as passive as the prior and has the
lonely scrivener arrested. In jail he continues his preference against society and it eventually leads

By stripping himself of all physical human contact he has transformed himself from a person to a
thing. He is merely a purposeless object that has rooted itself to the office. By this point we can see
Bartleby has successfully isolated himself physically from the world.
Bartleby s Emotional Isolation: Bartleby s method of rejection is broken down in the online
article Time of Our Lives: A Critical History of Temporality , by David Couzens Hoy. When
Bartleby uses the statement, I would prefer not to [it] is neither an affirmation nor a negation.
Bartleby is not refusing to do what he is asked, but he is not accepting the order either. There is a
double negation involved, and because the only two possibilities are to say yes or no. Bartleby s
impossible position of saying neither collapses into nothingness (Hoy, 174). As it is stated in the
quote Bartleby is neither refusing nor is he accepting any duty the lawyer asks of him. This
double negative statement makes it very difficult for the lawyer to understand what Bartleby
means by it. By being so ambiguous in his meaning Bartleby can keep his emotions or feelings
towards society, work, humanity etc. hidden from sight. By isolating himself emotionally and
keeping his feelings out of plain sight he leaves things up for interpretation. Keeping his emotions
inside is just another step towards complete isolation. Egbert S. Oliver states it best in the book A

Black Decker
Background
Black and Decker (B amp;D) is a pioneer in portable power tools. In 1991, it is a $5 billion in sales
company with 29% of these sales coming from Power Tools and Accessories. B amp;D is the world
s larges producer of power tools and the U.S. market overall leader.
Problem Statement
B amp;D has a strong market share in the consumer and industrial markets, but is weak in the P T
market as it is currently experiencing decreased market share. In this segment, B amp;D is not
generating profits and, at the same time, retailers want more advertising allowances and rebates.
Analysis
The U.S. power tools market is divided into three segments: Consumer (home use buyers),

Consumer tools in the market are Black or Charcoal Grey. B amp;D uses Black for Consumer and
Charcoal Grey for Professional Grade tools, this lack of color differentiation makes it difficult for
purchasers to determine which products are Professional and which are Consumer, which may have
facilitated the use of B amp;D consumer grade products to professional tasks, thus generating an
inordinate high rate of failure. Conversely, other manufacturers use higher color differentiation and
use colors such as teal (Makita), red (Milwaukee), or green (Hitachi) to differentiate the P T
products from the black/charcoal grey consumer products.
Research on Tradesmen s brand perceptions shows that DeWalt, a B amp;D brand associated
with industrial yellow has a 70% awareness rating and is ranked by 63% of those in the P T
market to be One of the Best , which is much more than the 44% of people in this market who
think the same of the B amp;D brand. Although the purchase interest in DeWalt is 51% compared
to 58% of DeWalt Services and Distributed by Black and Decker.
Despite all of this, B amp;D strongest rival, Makita, exhibits a few weaknesses that can be
exploited by B amp;D. Customers, in general, have been exposed to positive Makita interactions;
retailers on the other hand have had a different experience. Makita, in general, did not support all of
their retailers as it did not offer channel protection

Compare and contrast how Wilfred Owen and Isobel...
Compare and contrast how Wilfred Owen and Isobel Thrilling portray the horror, suffering and
inevitable disillusionment of war in their respective poems. The two poets that I am going to
compare and contrast in this essay both write from a different perspective of the war. They are
writing about different poems, Owen writes about the 1st world war and Thrilling the 2nd. Both
poets are in a different setting when they write these poems, Thrilling is back at home whereas
Owen is in the middle of the action, he is in the battlefield. This makes his poems more vivid and
realistic. Owen was an adult at this stage and writes it from a soldier s point of view, however
Thrilling writes from a child s point of view. The poems that I... Show more content on

The soldiers are described by Owen as hard working and faithful as they limped, blood shod. The
war is also stressed by the use of the hyperbole. Many metaphors are used in the poem for
example rest is used to signify the dead soldiers. The soldiers are portrayed as being dead and
are so tired that they are almost like they are drunk, stumbling with fatigue. In the next verse
highlighting the immediacy of the action speeds up the pace. GAS, GAS quick boys! The word
boys in this sentence emphasises how young and unprotected the soldiers were. It also shows
that they are blind to what is happening, they are inexperienced and therefore suffer. The word
ecstasy is then used to highlight the chaos and tempo. It is a contrast to the previous verse when
they were trudging on the same routine. The army is portrayed as smart and heroic but they are
told to us but Owen as clumsy . The simile like floundering in fire is used to highlight that they
were not in control of what was happening, they were delirious. The pace is then slowed down as
one of the soldier s dies. He is suffocating and this shows us he is totally helpless. We are at this
point looking through the soldier s eyes and this emphasises that we are helpless too. The
slowing down is as if he is drowning. The gas is suffocating the soldier and it is if he is drowning
under the sea because it as described using the metaphor the green sea . The next verse

The Importance Of Fluency Instruction For Reading...
Data In looking at the raw data, all but one of my five sixth grade students in my class scored
below the 50 percentile. This shows a need for fluency instruction and possibly a reason why
students struggle in the area of reading comprehension. I administered the fifth grade level passage
of the words per minute assessment, all of my students were readingat an independent level, but
struggle to read the text fluently, thus affecting their comprehension. Most of the students scored 3
/5 on comprehension part of the assessment. Based on this data it is clear that my students need
some aspects of fluency instruction. Because I had seven students total in my class, I did a whole
class choral readinglesson with the entire group. The two readers I did not assess I knew would
benefit from fluency based on observations of student s reading fluency when they have
volunteered to read aloud in class. All of my students need some type of fluency instruction and
there was not a single student who has mastered an area of fluency instruction.
Technical Reflection
In administering the word per minute assessment, I think I excelled at making the students feel
comfortable while giving the assessment. I had the student working with me at a small table while
the rest of the class did independent work. I let the student know I was going to record them, so I
could listen to it later. Then, I just listened to the student read. I have found from previous
experience giving running record

The Second World War was regarded as the most notable period of the 20th century. The war
resulted in significant benefits in technology particularly in the weaponry and other battlefield

the friendliness it had towards all regardless of the origin, religious or political affiliations. A

were engaged in the processing of latex, pulp, silk and woolen products. The large proportion of
the town s populace dwelled in the o outskirts of the town. These families used their land for crop
cultivation and rearing of animals. These inhabitants were mainly engaged in the few available
industries. The town was also the center of commerce, administration as it hosted the local

Above all, Bedford outwardly was a small city but big in its heart.
The inhabitants coexisted peacefully as they lived much like a family: everybody knew

These stages are which employees with chronic illnesses may go through as they deal with their

believe that the disease can t hurt them therefore refusal of taking medications or any medical

The title of the book is Death of a Salesman by Arthur Miller. Miller s nationality is American.
The book was published in 1949.
The book takes place in the late 1940 s Brooklyn, Boston, and Manhattan.
The play s entirety takes place over the course of 24 hours. It s about the life of Willy Loman, a
traveling salesman, and the issues that he goes through with his family. He s a big dreamer and
wants better things out of life, but things don t go his way. He continues along with all these bad
things and arguments with his family until he kills himself.
Willy Loman is a salesman who wants nothing more than the typical American Dream of riches,

The diamonds are a symbol of the wealth that Willy so badly craved but never received. It was

Psychological And Psychological Effects Of Advertising And...
Do you ever look around and notice a particular fashion style of those around you? Perhaps, you
ve noticed someone driving an expensive car and wonder to yourself what makes it worth all of
the money spent on it. We live in a consumer driven society in America today where everything
from the outfit you choose to wear to the car you drive is influenced by advertisement. Just how
much does it dictate our perception of life? I will be analyzing the staggering psychological and
societal effects that advertisers have over our culture today. I will be looking at advertisings origins
and showing how it developed to become one of the main contributors to what is considered to be
normal and desirable in American culture today. Advertisers have successfully employed methods
of psychologyto shape the minds of their consumers and construct a world that fattens their pocket
books while leaving the average consumer dumbfounded to the advertisement s effects. My goal is
to educate the consumer about these methods thereby empowering them to see past the façade
and decide for themselves what they need and want from the world.
History of Advertising
To truly understand the present the way advertising negatively affects American society, one must
look at its past. For as long as there has been money, there has been competition to obtain it.
Different methods have been employed in attempts to turn the consumer s attention towards a
product in hopes of getting some of this ever coveted money.

Some of other most important component of the group we can find Piet Mondrian which was a

had just one goal: to make art that was as simple as possible. They wanted to purify art to
precision and perfection. Two important elements were composition and balance in their work,
making the De Stijl art movement influential in the next few decades of modern design and
modern architecture such as we can see in Le Corbusier or Mies Van De Rohe or in the
International Style. The De Stijl movement was theorized on the fundamental principles of the
simple geometry (such as straight lines, squares, and rectangles) with asymmetrical arrangements
as well as the use of true primary colors in tandem (such as blue, yellow, red, white and black).
Also the association between positive and negative. The goal of the movement in design was to
make simple things such as furniture and buildings a piece of art itself. It was a an abstract
movement with the idea of the form following function and the emphasis on the structural
components. Van Doesburg described the style by saying, The new architecture is anti cubic, i.e., it

Human Interrupt Water Transduction Essay Essay
Human interrupt water pathways in two ways
1. Withdrawals:
We take water out of the system to irrigate crops, to provide us with drinking water and to carry out
many of our industrial processes.
2. Discharges:
We add substances to the water intentionally or not. As precipitation falls on the ground and moves
into rivers and creeks, it picks up a whole range of pollutants. In rural areas these pollutants may
include farm pesticides, herbicides and fertilizers as well as wastes from faulty septic systems and
improperly handled manure. In urban areas, the pollutants may include gas, oil, pet waste,
fertilizers, pesticides, salt and treated human waste from sewage treatment plants.
What we do to this system affects everything within it. For example, what happens if rain that falls
from the sky or the water that flows through our streams is contaminated? These contaminants may
infect plant or animal life including human beings, or reduce their ability to grow and reproduce.
What happens if large quantities of water are diverted or taken out of the system? The reduced
flow will likely affect the local water supply but it may eventually change the local environment
and alter the plant and animal species that are found here. As we place different stresses on this
system, we run the risk of altering or overloading it and causing serious harm.
The Credit River is an important part of the watershed and the water cycle in this area. What we do
here affects us locally and

American Mafia vs. Italian Mafia in Cinema Essay
The gangster genre within films in America has accomplished numerous positive criticisms and
constant willing audiences due to containing outstanding spectacles and mind blowing action. The
Godfather, being second on the IMDb Top 250 Movies, has set a new popular concept to life
within the Mafia from their point of view. Doing so, creating a positive association. Yet within
Italy, the same topic contains a complete different view. Movies such as I Cento Passi demonstrate

American films, the gangsters are not as often viewed at the protagonist and are the main causes for

I Cento Passi (one hundred steps), written by Marco Tullio Giordana in 2000, is a film of an
explosive story of betrayal, murder, intrigue and the Mafia, set in Cinisi, a small Sicilian
seaside. The town is run and controlled by head of the mafia, Don Tano. Peppino Impastato, a
real character in history, fought against the mafia, despite his family s connection and finally
became a martyr for his cause. At a young age he became very aware of the harsh reality of the
Mafia when his uncle, who he dearly loved, was blown up by a car bomb. He becomes a very
active member of the Communist party in Sicily and fought back against the Mafia, which few
Italians would ever do at the time or even in the present.
Thinking back to the first time watching The Godfather, the plot repeatedly wraps around the idea
of family and business. Yet the two do not reflect the central theme of the film. Death and betrayal
are foreshadowed in the cryptic dialogue, the baroque, pathos laced scenery, and in the very nature
of the incestuous institution of family in La Mafia (Russo p 37). Constantly seen is death being a
symbol and a theme within the film itself. The brutal violence, settled vendettas, and acts of murder
are either demonstrated, talked about, or become the reason or many focus in almost every scene.
One symbol of death in the film is the oranges, which appear in many scenes. Initially, it is hard to

Snow Covers
Kotlyak et al. (1997) describe the snow cover regime all over the world based on regular ground
observation data from the 1960s to the 1980s. Spatial distribution of the number of snow
covered days (N_sn, similar as SCD in this study) is found to be related with altitude, exposition of
macro slope relative to trajectories of major moisture flow, and latitude. The latitudinal gradient for
N_sn is 5 to 9.5 days / degree with a mean of 8 days / degree for the Northern Hemisphere,
comparable with the value (~ 9 days / degree for areas below 3000 m) reported for CA in this study.

(2014) based on AVHRR imageries. Summary statistics for snow cover extent and timing
characteristics, including SCD, SCD_ES and SCD_LS (same as SCD, SCOD and SCMD in this
study) were calculated at each 100 m elevation zone within the CARs, and within different
catchment groups. Trends of the summary statistics were analyzed using Mann Kendal test. The
results show that SCMD shifted earlier significantly in upstream catchments of Amu Dar ya and
Syr Dar ya, as well as in the elevation range between 2500 and 3200 m, which is in agreement
with our previous work and the results of this study in general. It is reported that SCOD moved
earlier significantly all over CARs, and no significant trend of SCD change can be detected in any
catchment group or elevation zone, which differs from our findings. In this study, within the
boundary of CARs, significantly decreased SCD was observed in mountainous areas of Tien Shan
and Pamir, while only patches in WP and WT experienced SCOD shifted earlier. The disagreement
might come from the different temporal overage of the two studies, or more probably the different
calculation unit used when conducting trend test. As shown in our results, the trend of change for
snow cover statistics exhibits large spatial variability. Calculating the trends of change at catchment
groups and 100 m elevation zones within the political boundaries might

How Does Aristophanes Portray Women In Lysistrata
In Aristophanes comedic play the protagonist Lysistrata called upon the women in the surrounding
areas of Greece to discuss her plans for ending the Peloponnesian war which was keeping their

politics we can clearly see how Aristophanesattempted to portray Lysistrataas a strong womanwho
tried to reverse the roles of men as providers and guardians by reducing them to subservient and
obedient subjects for their amusement. Lysistra organized a meeting with the women of the

women took over the Acropolis to seize the treasure and funds used to support the war. Lysistrata
and the others moved to join the ranks. Enter the chorus of Old Men trying to burn down the gates
and smoke out the women in the Acropolis. The Chorus of Women shows up to counter the attack
and a conflict ensues. A magistrate shows up to presumably mediate but after hearing about
Lysistrata s plan balks at it as he didn t care rto listen to a woman making demands. He is ultimately

Benefits of Physical Education in Elementary and Early Childhood Settings
The need for quality physical education in elementary schools is an important needed foundation for
young children to maintain a future healthy lifestyle. The benefits of having physical education in
elementary schools are endless. For example, physical education helps fight childhood obesity,
lower the risk of heart disease and type 2 diabetes, and promote active children to be active adults.
However, the rhetoric surrounding physical education in these schools are ... Show more content on

However, they noted that schools without the funds to hire properly trained physical education
teachers will have to rely on current staff members to cover the new physical education classes
(Borland, 2011). Unfortunately, this becomes a problem in most schools, because teachers feel
like there is not enough time to focus on physical education because they are burden by producing
test scores also. However, it is not a lost cause. Teachers can implement physical education in their
classroom in simple methods of the lesson they are teaching. For example, in math, teachers can
have students count their jumps, while they jump up and down, or do jump in jacks when spelling
out words. Schools are evaluated on test scores for core curriculums like math, writing, and reading,
not body and fitness. Understandably, those subjects are very important as well as physical
education.
Research has shown that there are ways to alleviate the budget constraints for physical education.
There are four grants in particular to help. One is the Carol M. White Physical Education Program,
the main program by the federal government for elementary schools. The grant is given to
community organizations that distribute funds to assist schools with their physical education and
after school programs. The funds are given to Local Education Agencies, or LEAs, that then
distribute money to schools in

Emotional Analysis Of The Old Spice Scent Vacation...
We all know a person who looks very confident and put together on the outside, but a
conversation with them reveals that much is lacking in their personality. Similarly, commercials
can appear fun or exciting, but upon further inspection it is greatly lacking in depth. Because of
this, creating commercials is a balance between providing information and keeping the viewers
engaged. The process isn t simply writing a script containing only style and no substance, or one
with only substance and no style. With the former, a commercial could capture the audience s
attention, but provides no supporting information; the latter, provides an excessive amount of
information, but does not seize the viewers. Creating commercials pines for the utmost balance;
if the balance is off by a fraction, it could mean the difference between a million dollars or zero.
The Old Spice Scent Vacation commercial sits atop the pinnacle of this balance. It was made to
advertise their new collection of scents ranging from the scenic beaches of Fiji to the snowy peak
of Denali (Mt. McKinley). The commercial illustrates this balance through the use of emotional
appeals, imagery, and appeals to authority and credibility to convince people of the outlandish
benefits of switching to Old Spice, in terms of confidence and sexual appeal.
Old Spice s use of appealing to certain emotions carries strong effects in this commercial. It evokes
a multitude of feelings, anywhere from anger to lust to joy. The commercial

Postpartum Depression
Ultimately, Charlotte Perkins Gilman incorporates her own personal experiences with postpartum
depression into a narrative which shows broad implications of women, how society portrays and
treats them in many ways and how those women respond to those treatments.
The injustice in society between gender is shown through the relationship between the narrator and
John, her husband. In the story, John never once called her by her name, sometimes a blessed little
goose or some other animal name, like an adult looking down at a minority. This is a discrimination
towards women and clearly represents how unfairly women were treated during those times. They
were looked down upon, treated as below human, equalling animals. John expects nothing more ...

goes mad because her role in society is limited and her ability to express herself is constricted.
The wallpaper symbolises her imprisonment and the domestic life that traps so many women in
the late nineteenth century. Yellow usually symbolises happiness, but ironically, in this narrative
the narrator is being trapped and driven mad by the color. She only sees a repellent, almost
revolting color; a smoldering yellow, strangely faded by the slow turning sunlight. Eventually, she
sees patterns which come into focus as a desperate woman, constantly crawling and stooping,
looking for an escape from the main pattern which resemble the bars of a cage. The narrator sees
herself behind the wallpaper, realising for the first time what her status is. Like all other women
during the late nineteenth century, she wishes to break free from this sort of environment where
women are considered to be nothing more than housewives. At that time in society, women were
expected to live their life bound at home, taking care of cooking, houseworks and raising children.
Free time for women was meant for them to be sewing and doing the laundry instead of socializing
in society. Many women began to protest, some became vocal participants of women s rights
movement. The narrator has to hide the only thing she finds comfort in from everyone,

Analysis of Discretionary Fiscal Policy Essay
During discretionary fiscal policy the government spends and taxes to change the economy during a
particular problem. Both Congress and the president have to take action when they agree that the
economy is in need. When they do this they are trying to simulate the economy during a time of
recession. Economists thought discretionary fiscal policywould eliminate the instability of the
recession, however most had given up on the idea by 1980.
The most noticeable discretionary fiscal policy is the discretionary budget. These are the
expenditures calculated in the United States budget that are within the appropriations bills. These
are negotiated between Congress and the president each year. This includes almost all the spending

There are three types of lags recognition lag, administrative lag, and operational lag. From those
lags you must determine if they were an attribute to the failure. Each lag takes time to notice.
Recognition lag measures the state of the economy. This is a resultant from GDP because its not
measured neither quick enough nor easily found. During administrative lag the president and
Congress agree on a course of action. Two legislative bodies must agree and then agree with the
president. Congress doesn t solve problems without any disagreement, and eventually over a
period of time they will agree. The last type of lag is operational lag, this takes time to notice the
full impact of a government program or tax change to have the effect on the economy. This offers
the final block and even if both the president, and Congress agree on time it still takes time for
discretionary fiscal policy to have an effect. The next part of the three fold is that failures can be a
result from political motivations that overwhelm some economic reasons. Finally, the third part of
the three fold deals with the immediate counter effects of the aggregate demand and aggregate
supply, which this could either eliminate the positive intent of the policies either partially or
completely. Policy makers noticed in the 1970s that discretionary fiscal policy couldn t stabilize
the economy. The lags were just too important to ignore, and the recession to be recognized, laws to

Art of Love
The Art of Love
Framing for a Misogynist
The poetry of Ovid exemplified in The Art of Love is one of the only examples of the
contemporary social behavior exhibited during the time of Rome. Ovid writes about social
activities, proper style, women, and how to obtain them. Through Ovid s perspective, there are
three different ways to consider a woman. These three views include relating a woman to a game, a
beautiful treasure, and as a means to assert social status. Comparatively, Andreas Capellanuswrites
in a way that makes women seem respected, worthy and as something to a man would willingly
devote his life to. Both men have a clear fascination with women and their relationship to men.
However, their distinct writing styles cause ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The view Ovid takes on women is not always clear. In some passages he has a violent perspective
on women. Ovid writes about how he easily could have taken advantage of women, displaying a
negative viewpoint of ownership towards females. Similarly he says never a virgin there was
free from the lust of a hand , which shows that men desire women, and a virgin is held as a high
prize, one that is worth committing the act of adultery for (Art 1. 89 126). On the other end,
Capellanus views the trophy of virginity as futile and counters that while you know some other
man is enjoying the embraces of your beloved, this will make you begin to value her solaces all the
more (2.2, 3). Furthermore, he makes the argument against adultery, again opposing the views of
Ovid. Capellanus explains his argument in detail by stating that a man in love is adorned with the
virtue of chastity, because he who shines with the light of one love can hardly think of embracing
another woman, even a beautiful one (1.4, 2).
Contrary to many men who believe that a man must be strong and not show a woman his
tenderness, Ovid shares his heart, saying, do not think it a shame to suffer her blows or her curses;
do not think it a shame, stooping, to kiss her feet (Art 2. 522 553) . This is simply an outstanding
statement, as it serves to show the true emotion and character of Ovid. This statement cannot be
taken lightly

Hip Hop s Negative Influence On Teen Decision-Making
Hip Hop changes lives, but not the way you are told to believe. The media false advertises that

making. Majority of the time these factors are unavoidable. Factors such as environment, family,
and music are key to the teens decision making. Hip hop is believed to have a huge negative
impact on teens decision making and we are to blame for this false allegation. In the 1980s inner

Volcano Is A Volcano, Volcanic Eruptions, Earth, And Earth
What is a Volcano: A volcano is a rupture in the crust of planets such as Earth. They allow hot
lava, volcanic ash and gasses to escape from a magma chamber. Magma is formed from the
melting of rocks in the Earth s lithosphere, which is part of the Earth s crust and is broken up into
giant puzzle like pieces, and also from the shell below the lithosphere which is the asthenosphere.
The asthenosphere is a soft, fluid part of the Earth that can be pushed around because of the Earth s
warmth. Volcanoes form from eruptions. Once the eruption occurs the lava from the eruption cools
to form a new crust. After several eruptions, the rock builds up and forms the cone shaped
mountains or hills in which we call volcanoes.
What causes an eruption: A volcanic eruption is just a natural way that the Earth cools down and
releases internal heat and pressure. In an eruption, super heated magma from deep within the Earth
s interior works its way to the surface. They most often occur at the tectonic plate boundaries but
can also occur over hotspots or weak areas in the Earth s crust. The two most known types of
eruptions are effusive eruptions and explosive eruptions. Effusive eruptions are eruptions where
magma rises through the surface and flows out of the volcano as the thick liquid that is lava.
Explosive eruptions are eruptions where the magma is torn apart as it rises and reaches the surface
in pieces known as pyro clasts. Effusive eruptions are caused when hot basalt magma reaches the

The Stark Law Essays
The Stark Law
Some federal statutes address fraud in government health care programs, and many of these laws
vary considerably (Krause 2004). Some of these laws specifically target health care fraud. Example
of the laws that the government direct at inappropriate health care activities includes the Medicare
and Medicaid Anti Kickback Statute and Ethics in Patient Referrals Act (EPRA).
In 1989, Congress enacted the Ethics in Patient Referrals Act. Commonly known as Stark law,
Congress named it in honor of Rep. Pete Stark, a Democrat from California, and original sponsor
of the bill (Sprague 2004). This law places limitations on self referrals by physicians and prohibits

Considering the provisions of the Stark law, it is clear that Congress enacted the law to curb the
self referrals that were prevalent among medical practitioners due to the sprawling specialty
hospitals and health facilities (Choudhry, Choudhry, and Brennan 2005). Furthermore, Congress
saw the need to prevent a physician s referral decision that is dependent on a selfish, financial gain.
The idea was to preclude overutilization of certain health care facilities that may arise from
objectionable referrals and the resultant increase in health care cost (Staman 2010).
Congress created the Stark law, which is compiled as Section 1877 of the Social Security Act, as
part of the Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act of 1989, Public Law 101 239, 103 Stat. 2423
(1989); the Stark law is codified at 42 U.S.C. В§ 1395nn. In 1993, Congress passed the Omnibus

commonly known as Stark II (Staman 2010). In essence, Stark I and Stark II were not created as
stand alone laws but as provisions in the Omnibus Budget Reconciliations of 1989 and 1993. The

Matter can take on different changes physically and chemically, for an example of a physical
change is when water freezes into ice, there is no chemical change to the water but a physical

another physical change would be bending iron metal, the iron is still the same chemically whether
it is made into I beams, or pressed into shapes to make the body of a car; the shape may change but
it never changes chemically. In addition, a chemical change is the results in one or more substances

The Strengths and Weaknesses of Dualism
Dualism is the belief that reality consists of two different, separate substances: that of the mental
and that of the physical. In philosophy of mind, the belief that the mental and physical are deeply

materialism, as dualism dictates that the mind is unidentifiable to the body, as opposed to stating
that the mind and body exist as one. The concept of dualism is not only fundamental in philosophy,
but also affects our thoughts on science, religion and psychology: for example, if a convincing
rejection of dualism can be formulated, the materialist approach of modern science will be
vindicated. If, conversely, dualism can be convincingly... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Aquinas agreed with the Artistotlean notion that when the soul entered the body it animated it
and gave it life; calling it anima. Moreover according to Aquinas, the soul operates independently
of the body and it cannot decay; for only things that can break into parts can decay, Thus,
following Aquinas argument, the soul is able to survive death. He also said that through the link
with a particular human body, each soul becomes individual. So, even when a body dies, the
soul that departs retains the individual identity of the body to which it was attached. Despite this
earlier work, there was still no explanation of how the soul and body worked together, if at all.
This was until Descartes (1596 1650) who provided the fundamental writings on dualism with his
work Meditiations on First Philosophy. Indeed, he is considered the father of modern philosophy
and his Meditations lead to the school of dualistic ontology known as Cartesian Interactionist
Dualism, which still inspires much thought and extension by modern philosophers today.
Descartes defined the mind as all the feelings and sensations that he could describe, but which he

William Shakespeare Hamlet Research Paper
William Shakespeare s play called, Hamlet has been performed on stage numerous times and
adapted into many films over time. Some actors and directors capture the true essence of
Shakespeare s Hamlet, while others prefer to make parody films of Hamlet by poking fun at
Hamlet s family, friends and even himself. Although, there are many film adaptions of William
Shakespeares Hamlet, what s unique about the different film versions of Hamlet is the unique
alterations directors and actors make in each film adaption of Hamlet, although given the same
play. Three main versions of Hamlet, the classic, staring and directed by Laurence Olivier, the
1990 version starring Mel Gibson and directed by Franco Zeffirelli and the unforgettable 1996

The Caribbean And C.l. R. James
The Caribbean and C.L.R. James
I was sitting on a beach in Jamaica reading a collection of C.L.R. James s occasional writings on
cricket (Grimshaw 1986). The place had once belonged to Errol Flynn. My daughter was
playing on the edge of the sea. James had been Neville Cardus s deputy as the Manchester
Guardian s cricket correspondent in the 1930s. I found myself reading about my father s heroes
in the Lancashire cricket team of that period as if it was today s sports news. I had been
devouring everything I could by James since I came to Jamaica to help establish a new graduate
school for social science research. I knew that he had lived in Lancashire when he left Trinidad for
Britain. It occurred to me that we had lived in the same places, the Caribbean, Britain, America,
Africa in a different sequence, at different times and with very different trajectories. Now,
watching my daughter play on that exotic beach, with my father s stories from childhood coming
alive again, the gap between this old black man and myself was collapsed into a single moment
by the compelling immediacy of James s prose. Generation and racial differences were erased in
an epiphany of timeless connection. I felt compelled to meet him and so I wrote the first and only
fan letter of my life.
Dear Mr James,
Like you I have lived in Britain, the USA, Africa and now the Caribbean. I started out from
Lancashire. In the last few months, I have read a good fraction of your writings, as well as a

The Industrial Revolution And The Age Of Revolution
The Age of Revolution, as defined by professor Jones, is characterized by a general attitude that
change could bring about improvements in all areas of people s lives... (text). What was unique
about this attitude was that it came from the everyday people and not just the rulers it was the
opposite of big man history . Therefore, in terms of the Age, a revolution can be understood as the
active and rapid act of capturing of this improvement of life by the common people. Under this
framework it can be understood that there were several revolutions throughout the Age of
Revolution, which all contributed to and were a result of the Age s burgeoning view. Two such
revolutions essential to the Age were the French Revolution and the Industrial Revolution. These
two provide the most abundant resources to understand the Age in that they both are revolutions
powered by the everyday people.
The French Revolution was a turning point for Europe from which there was no return. It set the
mold for revolutions of the Age and showed just how deeply ingrained and powerful the ideals of
the Age could be in the Western World. The French Revolution finds its causes in the now cliched
concept that when the masses are displeased, the king is in trouble. However it is crucial to
understand that the French Revolution established this cliche for the West. The simplest way to
chart out the atmosphere of France at the time, a look at the PICSET categories of France offers the
clearest depiction.

Peta People For The Ethical Treatment Of Animals
The organization known as PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) has an article on
their website condemning the use of leather products. Simply titled The Leather Industry and
accessible by typing cowsarecool.com , this article aims to show how cruelly animals are treated
while their skin is being obtained to make leather. This website supports the belief that that when
you buy leather you are an accessory to animal cruelty because they think that any informed person
would not fund the industry while they operate in this manner. This article is primarily geared
towards those who are easily swayed by slaughter pictures and have so much excess empathy that
they are willing to let PETA dictate what they wear.
PETA claims that you are an accessory to animal cruelty by stating With every pair of leather shoes
that you buy, you sentence an animal to a lifetime of suffering. They then go on to list all the ways
in which animals are subjected to torture while in a slaughter house. Stella McCartney states in
her video posted on the website that our aim is not to tell you what you wear yet clearly PETA is
trying to pressure you as evidenced in the first quote. I think that PETA means well but they
barrage you with all this evidence of suffering that it s hard not to feel ... Show more content on

She mentions that most leather comes from developing countries...where animal welfare laws are
nonexistent . She says that in such places cruelty towards animals manifests in different ways, for
example in India a worker may break cows tails or rub chili pepper into their eyes...after they
collapse from exhaustion . She goes on to use an example from the US, In the US...animals
routinely have their throats cut and some are even skinned and dismembered while they are still
conscious , to show us that cruelty is not isolated to developing countries but may be happening in
our own back

F Scott Fitzgerald Use Figurative Language In The Great...
F. Scott Fitzgerald was one of the best writers of his time from, This side of Paradise , to, The
Great Gatsby . F. Scott Fitzgerald also used figurative language to catch readers attention with
words that better understand. In chapter 3 of The Great Gatsby, F. scott Fitzgerald utilizes
Polysyndeton and Imagery to illustrate better understand the concept of the book. F. Scott Fitzgerald
utilized polysyndeton to connect sentences, and give the reader better understanding of the
story. In chapter 3 page 39 it says, An extra gardener tailed all day with mops and scrubbing
brushes and hammer and garden shears, and repairing the ravages of the night before. This
shows that Fitzgerald used this sentence to put it all together and explain how they clean
Gatsby s and how rich he was to prepare cleaners every single night of the party. Also it was the
best way to utilized many sentences into one.In chapter 3 page 40 it says In the main hall a bar
with a real brass rail was set up, and stocked with gins and liquors and with cordials so long
forgotten that most of his female guests... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Scott Fitzgerald used Imagery to illustrate better vision for The Great Gatsby and show the book in
the way it was supposed to be shown. In chapter 3 page 39, His raft or taking the sun on the hot
sand of his beach while his two motorboats slit the waters of the sound, drawing aquaplanes over
cataracts of foam. This is explaining to us how rich Gatsby is, and showing us that the Gatsby
house is really big and the backyard is beach with motorboats.Fitzgerald used this Imagery to
explain Gatsby big house. In chapter 3 page 39 it says, On the weekends his rolls royce became an
omnibus, bearing parties to and from the city, between nine in the morning and long past midnight,
while his station wagon scampered like a brisk yellow bug to meet all trains. Fitzgerald used this

Cannabis Has Been Proven to Have Therapeutic Benefits
Marijuana has been successfully used in pain management due to its analgesic and anti nausea
properties. Due to this reason, medical practitioners have in the past prescribed it to terminally ill
cancer or AIDS patients and muscle spasms victims. Currently, 15 states have legalized marijuana
for medical use making it easily available too not only terminally ill but others who report chronic
pain or severe nausea . This trend is likely to give rise to substance abuse with socioeconomic
impact on the society.
What is Cannabis? Cannabis occurs naturally as dried flowering of cannabis sativa plant.[1]
Commonly known as marijuana, It is either consumed by smoking or as an infused edible form.
Cannabinoids are the active compounds extracted from cannabis. Currently, marijuana may be
obtained at registered pharmacies over the counter in many states only on the recommendation of
physician. As it is not classified as medicine, prescription cannot be dispensed in measurable
quantity. Not only is it available in raw form but is also sold as a constituent of other edible
products such as muffins, lemon bars, lollipops and gummy bears! This availability of the product
in such infused forms gives the users a false sense of harmlessness associated with its use. The two
proven indications for the use of the synthetic cannabinoid (dronabinol) are chemotherapy induced
nausea and vomiting and AIDS related anorexia. Other possible effects that may prove beneficial in
the oncology include

The economic rationale for the method of multiple valuation method is the law of one price, i.e.,
identical assets should sell for the same price. To compute the multiple valuation method we
needed to define the peer group first. Apple, IBM and HP are not suitable because of their
bigger dimension (market capitalization, Debt, Equity and Share price). Also, to be
comparable, firms need to be similar in terms of risk, profitability, and growth. Once the
comparable companies were identified, the multiples were computed and a comparison was
established between the peer group s market capitalization and share price and those of the
target company (Sun). In this context, where a company wants to acquire another, corporate
executive are interested in assessing a target s total value, reflecting both debt (we assumed net
debt in this case) and equity. In this case, the enterprise value is a better basis for the valuation.
That way we used the EV/EBITDA ratio, which resulted in a meaningless value as Sun s
EBITDA is negative. EV/Sales ratio should then be used. In fact, the EV/Sales ratio raised the
firm s valuation to $16375,51 Million against its $6198,17 Million market capitalization. We can
also use the Price Earnings (P/E) ratio, which provides an indication of how much investors are
willing to pay for a company s earnings. To

Analysis Of The Story Araby
In the short story Araby, we are shown a young boy s first encounter with love and what he will
do for this girl. To help represent the protagonist s emotions and the way he views the world
around him, Joyce uses color. The use and absence of color in the story helps the reader identify
what the boy finds important in his life. This is done by using dark and sombre as adjectives and
also not using color. Except, when Mangan s sister (protagonist s crush) is being described in the
story. This when Joyce decides to use abundance of color to help create a contrast between the girl
and the rest of the world.
The author throughout the story persists on painting the setting of the story to be dark or even
unseeing, dirty and miserable. Joyce ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is a sharp contrast to when we meet his crush.
The first time we meet the protagonist s crush (Mangan s sister) the boys are playing outside and
she calls Magnan in for supper. The way the protagonist describes her with be in sharp contrast
with the rest of his world. her figure defined by the light from the half opened door... Her dress
swung as she moved her body and the soft rope of her hair tossed from side to side. (1224) From
the very first time we get a description of her. There is light shining upon, thus showing us the she
stands out in the protagonist s world.
The story continues to build on this use of light and color when describing Mangan s sister. The
next time this is seen in the text is when the protagonist is following Mangan s sister to school.
Joyce again uses color as an adjective. I kept her brown figure always in my eye (1224) This use
of color again sticks out, because the only time color is used is when she is being described in the
story. Joyce does this to show the reader how she sticks out in the protagonist s world. This motif is
continued in the story.
The next time the protagonist encounters Mangan s sister, is the first time the two characters have
an actual conversation. In the conversation they discuss if there going the Araby and tell

  • 2. Similarities And Differences Between Socialism And Socialism Socialism Socialism is a economic and political system in which the means of production operate under public political ownership, sometimes called common ownership. Common ownership under socialism may take shape through technocratic, oligarchic, totalitarian, democratic or even voluntary rule. All legal production and distribution decisions are made by the ruling class. Historical examples of socialist countries include the Nazi Germany and Soviet Union. Today s examples include Venezuela, Cuba and China. Due to its practical challenges and poor track record, socialism is sometimes referred to as a utopian or post scarcity system, although modern adherents believe it could work if properly implemented. Differences between Capitalism and Socialism 1.The economic system, in which the trade and industry are owned and controlled by private individuals is known as Capitalism. Socialism, on the other hand, is also an economic system, where the economic activities are owned and regulated by the state itself. 2.The basis of capitalism is the principal of individual rights, whereas socialism is based on the principle of equality. 3.Capitalism encourages innovation and individual goals while Socialism promotes equality and fairness among ... Understanding processes and procedures for storing and retrieving information 1.1 Explain the purpose of storing and retrieving required information The purpose of storing and retrieving information is that if you needed to contact them again or ring them back you would have their information there for you to retrieve. Therefore if any progress is made, you can update this or make notes on what is relevant if another colleague needs to access this information. It is also important because if a customer rings you, and the person who they have been dealing with is not in, you can look at the data already stored for this person and be able to help them with what is needed, so you are up to date too. 1.2 Describe different... • 4. Analysis Of The Movie The Grand Parade OILDORADO MILLER, JEREMY Last weekend in Taft, California, two hours north of Los Angeles, between the procession of floats and marching bands, grown men in cowboy attire shot at one another with antique revolvers, rifles and shotguns. The concussions rattled plate glass windows of stores along Center Street, many of which stand vacant. As the men passed by, children rushed into the street to pick up the spent cartridges, which they found mixed in with lollipops and pieces of gum. This is the Grand Parade, the finale of Taft s Oildorado festival, an unbridled street party held every five years to celebrate the region s patron industry oil. A man on one float dressed as an oil smeared roughneck yelled, God bless Taft! and Made in America! as he tipped a yellow hardhat toward the waving crowd. Another float ferried the Maids of Petroleum, young beauty competition participants dressed in fishnet tights and Old West bustle skirts. The competition winner, known as the Oil Queen, sat smiling in a white wicker throne before a glittery cutout of a derrick gushing a rooster tail of crude. Most associate the Central Valley with agriculture. But here in the dry southwestern corner of the vast basin, oil is the undisputed king. The giant oil fields that envelop the town of 9,000 the Midway Sunset, Cymric and Belridge are among the largest in the country, each having produced over a billion barrels of oil. The landscape reflects that reality. Fields of pump jacks ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Essay about The Fight Against Child Pornography In recent years, pornography has established itself as perhaps the most controversial topic arising out of the use of the Internet. The easy availability of this type of sexually explicit material has caused a panic among government officials, family groups, religious groups and law enforcement bodies and this panic has been perpetuated in the media. One of the unique challenges to regulating or settling on the appropriate way to regulate is that there is no concrete definition of pornography. While law enforcement bodies such as the police, prosecutors and judges, are accustomed to dealing with issues that are exclusive to the United States, the Internet is a worldwide community with servers and members coming ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The second real issue is finding a way to regulate and enforce the removal of material that is agreed upon as being inappropriate for anyone to have on the Internet. I am specifically touching on the issue of child pornography. While it is illegal in the United States, as it is in many countries, government and law enforcement officials are having a difficult time catching offenders who post this type of material. So with this type of problem concerning pornography this issue is not deciding on appropriate means of regulation, but rather how to enforce the regulation already in place. It is obvious that for years, the government has been trying to regulate this type of content but has seen very limited success. Part of the reason for this is because certain regulatory actions intended to protect only a small group, such as children, should not require the prohibition of material that adults have access to in other arenas. It is for example, legal for people to rent pornographic movies or buy nude magazines, so distribution of this type of material on the Internet should not be completely limited. People shouting out for protection of their 1st Amendment rights have made a good point when arguing against complete censorship. What seems more feasible is a sort of multi layered approach to regulate illegal and harmful content on the Net. This would make it possible to form some sort of insulation for children ... • 6. Bartleby the Scrivener Essay Bartleby s Isolation and the Wall Introduction: Bartleby the Scrivener, A Story of Wall Street is a short story by Herman Melville in which the narrator, a lawyer who runs a firm on Wall Street, tells the story of a rebellious scrivener who worked for him named Bartleby. One day, Bartleby simply states I would prefer not to when asked to do his normal copying duties as a scrivener (Melville). Soon Bartleby starts sleeping and eating at the office, refusing to leave. Eventually the narrator decides his only option is to move out and leave Bartleby there. Unfortunately the next tenant is not nearly as passive as the prior and has the lonely scrivener arrested. In jail he continues his preference against society and it eventually leads ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... By stripping himself of all physical human contact he has transformed himself from a person to a thing. He is merely a purposeless object that has rooted itself to the office. By this point we can see Bartleby has successfully isolated himself physically from the world. Bartleby s Emotional Isolation: Bartleby s method of rejection is broken down in the online article Time of Our Lives: A Critical History of Temporality , by David Couzens Hoy. When Bartleby uses the statement, I would prefer not to [it] is neither an affirmation nor a negation. Bartleby is not refusing to do what he is asked, but he is not accepting the order either. There is a double negation involved, and because the only two possibilities are to say yes or no. Bartleby s impossible position of saying neither collapses into nothingness (Hoy, 174). As it is stated in the quote Bartleby is neither refusing nor is he accepting any duty the lawyer asks of him. This double negative statement makes it very difficult for the lawyer to understand what Bartleby means by it. By being so ambiguous in his meaning Bartleby can keep his emotions or feelings towards society, work, humanity etc. hidden from sight. By isolating himself emotionally and keeping his feelings out of plain sight he leaves things up for interpretation. Keeping his emotions inside is just another step towards complete isolation. • 8. Compare and contrast how Wilfred Owen and Isobel... Compare and contrast how Wilfred Owen and Isobel Thrilling portray the horror, suffering and inevitable disillusionment of war in their respective poems. The two poets that I am going to compare and contrast in this essay both write from a different perspective of the war. They are writing about different poems, Owen writes about the 1st world war and Thrilling the 2nd. Both poets are in a different setting when they write these poems, Thrilling is back at home whereas Owen is in the middle of the action, he is in the battlefield. This makes his poems more vivid and realistic. Owen was an adult at this stage and writes it from a soldier s point of view, however Thrilling writes from a child s point of view. The poems that I... Many metaphors are used in the poem for example rest is used to signify the dead soldiers. In the next verse highlighting the immediacy of the action speeds up the pace. GAS, GAS quick boys! The word boys in this sentence emphasises how young and unprotected the soldiers were. It also shows that they are blind to what is happening, they are inexperienced and therefore suffer. The word ecstasy is then used to highlight the chaos and tempo. It is a contrast to the previous verse when they were trudging on the same routine. The army is portrayed as smart and heroic but they are told to us but Owen as clumsy . The simile like floundering in fire is used to highlight that they were not in control of what was happening, they were delirious. The pace is then slowed down as one of the soldier s dies. He is suffocating and this shows us he is totally helpless. We are at this point looking through the soldier s eyes and this emphasises that we are helpless too. The slowing down is as if he is drowning. The gas is suffocating the soldier and it is if he is drowning under the sea because it as described using the metaphor the green sea . The next verse ... This shows a need for fluency instruction and possibly a reason why students struggle in the area of reading comprehension. I administered the fifth grade level passage of the words per minute assessment, all of my students were readingat an independent level, but struggle to read the text fluently, thus affecting their comprehension. Most of the students scored 3 /5 on comprehension part of the assessment. Based on this data it is clear that my students need some aspects of fluency instruction. Because I had seven students total in my class, I did a whole class choral readinglesson with the entire group. The two readers I did not assess I knew would benefit from fluency based on observations of student s reading fluency when they have volunteered to read aloud in class. All of my students need some type of fluency instruction and there was not a single student who has mastered an area of fluency instruction. Technical Reflection In administering the word per minute assessment, I think I excelled at making the students feel comfortable while giving the assessment. • 16. Human Interrupt Water Transduction Essay Essay Human interrupt water pathways in two ways 1. Withdrawals: We take water out of the system to irrigate crops, to provide us with drinking water and to carry out many of our industrial processes. 2. Discharges: We add substances to the water intentionally or not. As precipitation falls on the ground and moves into rivers and creeks, it picks up a whole range of pollutants. In rural areas these pollutants may include farm pesticides, herbicides and fertilizers as well as wastes from faulty septic systems and improperly handled manure. In urban areas, the pollutants may include gas, oil, pet waste, fertilizers, pesticides, salt and treated human waste from sewage treatment plants. What we do to this system affects everything within it. For example, what happens if rain that falls from the sky or the water that flows through our streams is contaminated? These contaminants may infect plant or animal life including human beings, or reduce their ability to grow and reproduce. What happens if large quantities of water are diverted or taken out of the system? The reduced flow will likely affect the local water supply but it may eventually change the local environment and alter the plant and animal species that are found here. As we place different stresses on this system, we run the risk of altering or overloading it and causing serious harm. The Credit River is an important part of the watershed and the water cycle in this area. What we do here affects us locally and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I Cento Passi (one hundred steps), written by Marco Tullio Giordana in 2000, is a film of an explosive story of betrayal, murder, intrigue and the Mafia, set in Cinisi, a small Sicilian seaside. The town is run and controlled by head of the mafia, Don Tano. Peppino Impastato, a real character in history, fought against the mafia, despite his family s connection and finally became a martyr for his cause. At a young age he became very aware of the harsh reality of the Mafia when his uncle, who he dearly loved, was blown up by a car bomb. He becomes a very active member of the Communist party in Sicily and fought back against the Mafia, which few Italians would ever do at the time or even in the present. Thinking back to the first time watching The Godfather, the plot repeatedly wraps around the idea of family and business. Yet the two do not reflect the central theme of the film. Death and betrayal are foreshadowed in the cryptic dialogue, the baroque, pathos laced scenery, and in the very nature of the incestuous institution of family in La Mafia (Russo p 37). Constantly seen is death being a symbol and a theme within the film itself. The brutal violence, settled vendettas, and acts of murder are either demonstrated, talked about, or become the reason or many focus in almost every scene. The results show that SCMD shifted earlier significantly in upstream catchments of Amu Dar ya and Syr Dar ya, as well as in the elevation range between 2500 and 3200 m, which is in agreement with our previous work and the results of this study in general. It is reported that SCOD moved earlier significantly all over CARs, and no significant trend of SCD change can be detected in any catchment group or elevation zone, which differs from our findings. In this study, within the boundary of CARs, significantly decreased SCD was observed in mountainous areas of Tien Shan and Pamir, while only patches in WP and WT experienced SCOD shifted earlier. The disagreement might come from the different temporal overage of the two studies, or more probably the different calculation unit used when conducting trend test. As shown in our results, the trend of change for snow cover statistics exhibits large spatial variability. Calculating the trends of change at catchment groups and 100 m elevation zones within the political boundaries might ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

How Does Aristophanes Portray Women In Lysistrata In Aristophanes comedic play the protagonist Lysistrata called upon the women in the surrounding areas of Greece to discuss her plans for ending the Peloponnesian war which was keeping their husbands away and causing a financial burden to the city of Athens. By withholding sex and using politics we can clearly see how Aristophanesattempted to portray Lysistrataas a strong womanwho tried to reverse the roles of men as providers and guardians by reducing them to subservient and obedient subjects for their amusement. However, they noted that schools without the funds to hire properly trained physical education teachers will have to rely on current staff members to cover the new physical education classes (Borland, 2011). Unfortunately, this becomes a problem in most schools, because teachers feel like there is not enough time to focus on physical education because they are burden by producing test scores also. However, it is not a lost cause. Teachers can implement physical education in their classroom in simple methods of the lesson they are teaching. For example, in math, teachers can have students count their jumps, while they jump up and down, or do jump in jacks when spelling out words. Schools are evaluated on test scores for core curriculums like math, writing, and reading, not body and fitness. Understandably, those subjects are very important as well as physical education. Research has shown that there are ways to alleviate the budget constraints for physical education. There are four grants in particular to help. One is the Carol M. White Physical Education Program, the main program by the federal government for elementary schools. The grant is given to community organizations that distribute funds to assist schools with their physical education and after school programs. • 21. Emotional Analysis Of The Old Spice Scent Vacation... We all know a person who looks very confident and put together on the outside, but a conversation with them reveals that much is lacking in their personality. Similarly, commercials can appear fun or exciting, but upon further inspection it is greatly lacking in depth. Because of this, creating commercials is a balance between providing information and keeping the viewers engaged. The process isn t simply writing a script containing only style and no substance, or one with only substance and no style. With the former, a commercial could capture the audience s attention, but provides no supporting information; the latter, provides an excessive amount of information, but does not seize the viewers. Creating commercials pines for the utmost balance; if the balance is off by a fraction, it could mean the difference between a million dollars or zero. The Old Spice Scent Vacation commercial sits atop the pinnacle of this balance. It was made to advertise their new collection of scents ranging from the scenic beaches of Fiji to the snowy peak of Denali (Mt. McKinley). The commercial illustrates this balance through the use of emotional appeals, imagery, and appeals to authority and credibility to convince people of the outlandish benefits of switching to Old Spice, in terms of confidence and sexual appeal. Old Spice s use of appealing to certain emotions carries strong effects in this commercial. It evokes a multitude of feelings, anywhere from anger to lust to joy. The commercial ... Postpartum Depression Ultimately, Charlotte Perkins Gilman incorporates her own personal experiences with postpartum depression into a narrative which shows broad implications of women, how society portrays and treats them in many ways and how those women respond to those treatments. The injustice in society between gender is shown through the relationship between the narrator and John, her husband. In the story, John never once called her by her name, sometimes a blessed little goose or some other animal name, like an adult looking down at a minority. Economists thought discretionary fiscal policywould eliminate the instability of the recession, however most had given up on the idea by 1980. Recognition lag measures the state of the economy. This is a resultant from GDP because its not measured neither quick enough nor easily found. During administrative lag the president and Congress agree on a course of action. Two legislative bodies must agree and then agree with the president. Congress doesn t solve problems without any disagreement, and eventually over a period of time they will agree. The last type of lag is operational lag, this takes time to notice the full impact of a government program or tax change to have the effect on the economy. Art of Love The Art of Love Framing for a Misogynist The poetry of Ovid exemplified in The Art of Love is one of the only examples of the contemporary social behavior exhibited during the time of Rome. Ovid writes about social activities, proper style, women, and how to obtain them. Through Ovid s perspective, there are three different ways to consider a woman. These three views include relating a woman to a game, a beautiful treasure, and as a means to assert social status. The view Ovid takes on women is not always clear. In some passages he has a violent perspective on women. Ovid writes about how he easily could have taken advantage of women, displaying a negative viewpoint of ownership towards females. Similarly he says never a virgin there was free from the lust of a hand , which shows that men desire women, and a virgin is held as a high prize, one that is worth committing the act of adultery for (Art 1. 89 126). On the other end, Capellanus views the trophy of virginity as futile and counters that while you know some other man is enjoying the embraces of your beloved, this will make you begin to value her solaces all the more (2.2, 3). Furthermore, he makes the argument against adultery, again opposing the views of Ovid. Capellanus explains his argument in detail by stating that a man in love is adorned with the virtue of chastity, because he who shines with the light of one love can hardly think of embracing another woman, even a beautiful one (1.4, 2). Contrary to many men who believe that a man must be strong and not show a woman his tenderness, Ovid shares his heart, saying, do not think it a shame to suffer her blows or her curses; do not think it a shame, stooping, to kiss her feet (Art 2. 522 553) . They allow hot lava, volcanic ash and gasses to escape from a magma chamber. Magma is formed from the melting of rocks in the Earth s lithosphere, which is part of the Earth s crust and is broken up into giant puzzle like pieces, and also from the shell below the lithosphere which is the asthenosphere. The asthenosphere is a soft, fluid part of the Earth that can be pushed around because of the Earth s warmth. Volcanoes form from eruptions. Once the eruption occurs the lava from the eruption cools to form a new crust. After several eruptions, the rock builds up and forms the cone shaped mountains or hills in which we call volcanoes. What causes an eruption: A volcanic eruption is just a natural way that the Earth cools down and releases internal heat and pressure. In an eruption, super heated magma from deep within the Earth s interior works its way to the surface. They most often occur at the tectonic plate boundaries but can also occur over hotspots or weak areas in the Earth s crust. The two most known types of eruptions are effusive eruptions and explosive eruptions. Effusive eruptions are eruptions where magma rises through the surface and flows out of the volcano as the thick liquid that is lava. Explosive eruptions are eruptions where the magma is torn apart as it rises and reaches the surface in pieces known as pyro clasts. Effusive eruptions are caused when hot basalt magma reaches the ... Aquinas agreed with the Artistotlean notion that when the soul entered the body it animated it and gave it life; calling it anima. Moreover according to Aquinas, the soul operates independently of the body and it cannot decay; for only things that can break into parts can decay, Thus, following Aquinas argument, the soul is able to survive death. He also said that through the link with a particular human body, each soul becomes individual. So, even when a body dies, the soul that departs retains the individual identity of the body to which it was attached. Despite this earlier work, there was still no explanation of how the soul and body worked together, if at all. This was until Descartes (1596 1650) who provided the fundamental writings on dualism with his work Meditiations on First Philosophy. Indeed, he is considered the father of modern philosophy and his Meditations lead to the school of dualistic ontology known as Cartesian Interactionist Dualism, which still inspires much thought and extension by modern philosophers today. Descartes defined the mind as all the feelings and sensations that he could describe, but which he could not locate physically . He then furthered this by saying that the mind is everything that is non physical. • 38. The Caribbean And C.l. R. James The Caribbean and C.L.R. James I was sitting on a beach in Jamaica reading a collection of C.L.R. James s occasional writings on cricket (Grimshaw 1986). The place had once belonged to Errol Flynn. My daughter was playing on the edge of the sea. James had been Neville Cardus s deputy as the Manchester Guardian s cricket correspondent in the 1930s. I found myself reading about my father s heroes in the Lancashire cricket team of that period as if it was today s sports news. I had been devouring everything I could by James since I came to Jamaica to help establish a new graduate school for social science research. I knew that he had lived in Lancashire when he left Trinidad for Britain. It occurred to me that we had lived in the same places, the Caribbean, Britain, America, Africa in a different sequence, at different times and with very different trajectories. Now, watching my daughter play on that exotic beach, with my father s stories from childhood coming alive again, the gap between this old black man and myself was collapsed into a single moment by the compelling immediacy of James s prose. Generation and racial differences were erased in an epiphany of timeless connection. I felt compelled to meet him and so I wrote the first and only fan letter of my life. Dear Mr James, Like you I have lived in Britain, the USA, Africa and now the Caribbean. I started out from Lancashire. In the last few months, I have read a good fraction of your writings, as well as a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Therefore, in terms of the Age, a revolution can be understood as the active and rapid act of capturing of this improvement of life by the common people. Under this framework it can be understood that there were several revolutions throughout the Age of Revolution, which all contributed to and were a result of the Age s burgeoning view. Two such revolutions essential to the Age were the French Revolution and the Industrial Revolution. These two provide the most abundant resources to understand the Age in that they both are revolutions powered by the everyday people. The French Revolution was a turning point for Europe from which there was no return. It set the mold for revolutions of the Age and showed just how deeply ingrained and powerful the ideals of the Age could be in the Western World. The French Revolution finds its causes in the now cliched concept that when the masses are displeased, the king is in trouble. However it is crucial to understand that the French Revolution established this cliche for the West. The simplest way to chart out the atmosphere of France at the time, a look at the PICSET categories of France offers the clearest depiction. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This article is primarily geared towards those who are easily swayed by slaughter pictures and have so much excess empathy that they are willing to let PETA dictate what they wear. PETA claims that you are an accessory to animal cruelty by stating With every pair of leather shoes that you buy, you sentence an animal to a lifetime of suffering. They then go on to list all the ways in which animals are subjected to torture while in a slaughter house. The economic rationale for the method of multiple valuation method is the law of one price, i.e., identical assets should sell for the same price. To compute the multiple valuation method we needed to define the peer group first. Apple, IBM and HP are not suitable because of their bigger dimension (market capitalization, Debt, Equity and Share price). Also, to be comparable, firms need to be similar in terms of risk, profitability, and growth. Once the comparable companies were identified, the multiples were computed and a comparison was established between the peer group s market capitalization and share price and those of the target company (Sun). In this context, where a company wants to acquire another, corporate executive are interested in assessing a target s total value, reflecting both debt (we assumed net debt in this case) and equity. In this case, the enterprise value is a better basis for the valuation. That way we used the EV/EBITDA ratio, which resulted in a meaningless value as Sun s EBITDA is negative. EV/Sales ratio should then be used. In fact, the EV/Sales ratio raised the firm s valuation to $16375,51 Million against its $6198,17 Million market capitalization. We can also use the Price Earnings (P/E) ratio, which provides an indication of how much investors are willing to pay for a company s earnings. To ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. Analysis Of The Story Araby In the short story Araby, we are shown a young boy s first encounter with love and what he will do for this girl. To help represent the protagonist s emotions and the way he views the world around him, Joyce uses color. The use and absence of color in the story helps the reader identify what the boy finds important in his life. This is done by using dark and sombre as adjectives and also not using color. Except, when Mangan s sister (protagonist s crush) is being described in the story. This when Joyce decides to use abundance of color to help create a contrast between the girl and the rest of the world. The author throughout the story persists on painting the setting of the story to be dark or even unseeing, dirty and miserable. Joyce ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The next time this is seen in the text is when the protagonist is following Mangan s sister to school. Joyce again uses color as an adjective. I kept her brown figure always in my eye (1224) This use of color again sticks out, because the only time color is used is when she is being described in the story. Joyce does this to show the reader how she sticks out in the protagonist s world. This motif is continued in the story. The next time the protagonist encounters Mangan s sister, is the first time the two characters have an actual conversation. In the conversation they discuss if there going the Araby and tell ...
