Writing an essay on the topic "Stand and Deliver" can be a challenging task that requires a
thorough understanding of the subject matter. This topic, which is likely to explore themes
related to education, determination, and societal expectations, demands careful research and
thoughtful analysis.
To begin with, one must delve into the nuances of the movie or book titled "Stand and Deliver"
to grasp its central themes, characters, and messages. This may involve watching the film,
reading the book, or both, while taking detailed notes on key elements that contribute to the
narrative. Analyzing the characters' motivations, the plot's development, and the overall message
the creator intended to convey is crucial for constructing a well-informed essay.
Moreover, the essay should incorporate relevant background information on the context in which
"Stand and Deliver" was created. Understanding the cultural, historical, or social factors that
influenced the work can add depth to the analysis. This requires additional research and a keen
ability to connect external factors with the content of the film or book.
Crafting a compelling thesis statement that encapsulates the main argument or interpretation is
another essential aspect of writing this essay. The thesis should guide the reader through the
essay, providing a roadmap for how the analysis will unfold. Supporting this thesis with evidence
from the source material, scholarly articles, and other relevant sources is vital for building a
persuasive and well-supported argument.
Additionally, organizing the essay coherently and ensuring a smooth flow of ideas is crucial.
Each paragraph should contribute to the overall argument, and transitions between ideas should
be seamless. Balancing the use of quotes, paraphrases, and personal insights is important to
maintain a harmonious blend of perspectives.
In conclusion, writing an essay on "Stand and Deliver" necessitates a comprehensive
understanding of the source material, as well as the ability to synthesize information and present

How Has the Internet Affected Sex Addiction
Running head: How has the Internet Affected Sex Addiction
How has the Internet Affected Sex Addiction
Edward Vega Jr.

Abstract
Sex addicts have plenty to struggle without adding the access to their wildest
fantasies. That is what the Internet has given them. Addicts can get online and search
pornography, cybersex sites and sites where they can find people to meet up with.
The Internet makes it that much easier for sex addicts because just like any other
addict they are ashamed of their addiction but with the Internet they do not have to
worry about it cause they can do whatever they want from the comfort of their own
home. What we need to understand is that sex addicts are not born sex addicts. Some

The sex addict engages in sex to feel better about them self. They became so
consumed with this feeling that they soon avoid their responsibilities; work, family,
school etc.
Things like cybersex and sex shops have a big impact on marriages, families and
even the addict themselves. Consumers of cybersex may manifest changes in sleep
patterns, demands for privacy and isolation, disregard for responsibilities, changes
in personality, loss of interest in partner sex, and decline in relationship investment
all of which impact one s spouse and family (Young et al., 2000) (Journal of Marital
and Family Therapy, 2008). Addicts worry so much about getting their fix that they
never stop and think about the people around them. It is no longer come home from
work and cook dinner or help around the house, it is all about coming home from
work and getting on the best porn site or sex cam.
Most families get use to a routine of some sort and for the most part stick to that
routine on a day to day basis. By doing this we are building confidence, security
and relationships with our family. Now if the routine was to change in any way it
would affect people in different ways. So when a family member starts to get more
and more involved with cybersex it really has an impact on the whole family. This is
what an article from Journal of Marital and Family Therapy had to say,

Battleship Potemkin Essay
Editing manipulates the audience s point of view of the story. Different cuts can
delineate the plot and the meaning of the images distinctively. Battleship Potemkin,
directed by Sergei Eisenstein was the example of how editing created emotions to the
viewers in the theatre. The editing made the sequence into a lesson of how the Soviet
Unionauthority was pressuring the public with complete dominance of violence.
Battleship Potemkin is a movie produced by Eisenstein in 1925. A film about the
Soviet Union soldiers life on the battleship and how they disobey their authoritative
generals. In addition, how they are welcomed by their families and the people, but
get turned down by the governmental army by shooting down the crowd from the
stairs. Therefore, this story was expressed by the cuts from frame to frame with
sensitivity and anguish feelings. The sequence will be analyzed is when the soldiers
return from their battleship and finally meeting their family and friends in Russia.
However, the government... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The scene was a cut of discontinuity. The scene used discontinuity editing to show
the woman s facial expression to demonstrate the pain of being shot. This made the
crowd trying to escape from the gunfires. The escape was first shot in a medium
shot, which creates a clear image of people running down the stairs. Along with some
long shots of the entire crowd deserting, shows how terrifying the firearms have
impacted the innocent people on the stairs. Different angles of the images were cut
alternatively to increase the tension of how communist authorities had been
constraining the people from their rights to gather around. Additionally, Eisenstein
included some close up shots to give the image of people dying and kids sitting in
the middle of the dead people. The scene then jump cuts to the soldiers in white
uniforms walking down the stairs roll by roll, pushing the
A Brief Note On Fracking And Its Effects On The World
Waterless Fracking: GasFrac For many years now, oil and gas have been harvested
from deep beneath the Earth s surface using thousands and millions of gallons of
water, known as hydraulic fracking. Environmental critics have brought up issues
with this type of fracking. The main being that while using these massive amounts of
water every time a well is fracked, all the used water, when finished, is causing
significant amounts of pollution. In response to the current criticism, engineers have
developed waterless fracking operations, where propanegel, butane, and other liquid
and gas alternatives are used to break the shale that is deep beneath the Earth s
surface. Even though this new water free system does not use the massive amounts of
water like its hydraulic counterpart, there are still critics saying that it has its own
environmental impacts. Assessing these impacts and therefore the philosophical
justifications for this sort of method provides support for its continued use.
I : Background Though completely different approaches to fracking were
introduced over the last decade, the thought and process of fracking isn t new.
Within the oil and gas industries, fracking is any method that involves the forcing of
many different substances into the fully grown to access oil or gas in the layers of
sedimentary rock. While drilling is done vertically, fracking occurs horizontally
(MacRae). Increasing need for access to natural gas and oil in this country and the

Slang Is So Popular With The Younger Generations
The way in which we speak changes drastically depending on the situation,
environment we are in and who we are speaking to. The use of slang in today s
society is increasingly becoming more and more common. However, this new,
modern way of speaking also comes with negative connotations. For this reason,
people have had to learn to adapt their speech to their situation. I will be discussing
the reasons behind the use of slang, why some people disapprove of it and I will
analyse how people change the way in which they speak depending on their
situation. Many young people use slang in order to fit in with their peers. Because
slang is mainly spoken by younger people, the use of it almost puts up a barrier
between children and adults. This barrier gives the youth a sense of rebellion. This
may be one of the reasons why slang is so popular with the younger generations,
this feeling gives them a sense of freedom and independence. Additionally, this
may also be one of the reasons why many people disapprove of the use of slang.
Some people believe that the use of slang suggests bad manners and morals, this
leads to them distrusting people who use slang. People also believe that the
common use of slang is causing the deterioration of Standard English. This can
cause many problems in society because it is easy for assumptions to be made about
people because of the way they speak. For this reason, the younger generation have
learnt to adapt the way they speak around different

First, their current IT infrastructure is secured with password mechanisms and

for three out of the five PCs they have. Third, their back up servers are on the same

lose everything because their back up servers resides in the same place as the main

Franchising Sonic Drive-In Restaurants
Franchising Sonic Drive In Restaurants What is a Franchise: A franchisee pays an
initial fee and a percentage of profit to a franchisor; in return, the franchisee gains
the use of a trademark, ongoing support from the franchisor, and the right to use
the franchisor s system of doing business and sell its products or services. Why I
chose this restaurant: I have chosen sonic drive in because this restaurant is in the
USA and is very well known for its fast food chains and roller skate competitions
and it has many franchises but all of them are in the USA that is why i would like
to bring this product to UAE, and also I think that many people from the USA would

great name to franchise in Dubai because it is one of the USAs most famous fast

Speech On Special Education
Three children sit around a small yellow round table grasping onto a crayon for the
first time of the year. They wrap their large chunky fingers around it and begin to
scribble unpredictably, ignoring the outline of the flower. One student of the
students jumps out of her seat and runs to the corner of the room. She screams so
violently that the other students working at the desk are now distracted by her
outburst. She wraps her hands around her shivering legs, and presses her sweaty
palms into her ears. This particular student is autistic, and suffers from several
unforeseeable meltdowns throughout the day. The teacher runs over to the child
with a tablet pressed against her chest, while the aide takes over the two students
working at the desk. This has been her fourth outbreak in the day; however, this one
has been more severe than the others. She begins to rip his tightly knotted boots off
her feet and launches it across the small room. She throws her body onto the cold
tiled floor and bangs her forehead, causing her to scream even louder than before. In
schools all around the country, teachers are helping children with special needs
overcome pivotal obstacles that they are faced with almost everyday. They are
implementing new strategies to encourage students to explore learning opportunities,
and they have established procedures and rules for behavior to maintain order among
their students.

The Leadership Challenge
The Leadership Challenge

Abstract
Everyone has a role in accomplishing the mission and everyone directly impacts the
effectiveness of his or her organization (Horton, p 247). According to Conger and
Benjamin (1999), creditability and authenticity lie at the heart of leadership, therefore,
determining and defining one s own guiding beliefs and assumptions lie at the heart
of becoming a great leader. Providing direction and exercising influence are the two
functions at the core of most definitions of leadership. Leaders work with others to
create a shared sense of purpose and direction and to achieve shared goals. They help

Integrative Approaches To Psychology And Christianity By...
The book, Integrative Approaches to Psychology and Christianity written by
Entwistle, N. David, analyzes the integration between Christianity and psychology.
Entwitle explains why Christianity and psychology cannot integrate in the same area
because the former is based on faith while the latter is based on the truth. However, he
emphasizes that the interaction between psychologyand Christianitycannot be avoided
because the two concepts help people to understand the source of humanbehavior, as
well as the healing process of a broken heart (Entwistle, 2010, p. 51). The theme of
the whole text is inclined upon the idea that psychology and Christianity can be
integrated and used together irrespective of the fact that they are based on completely
different ideas.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to the book, the term integrated should be viewed as a verb and as a noun
because the role played by integration becomes both imperative and feasible
(Entwistle, 2010, p. 26). Entwistle continues to explain that the main reason why faith
and science have been in endless conflict for quite a long time is due to the fact that,
science directly opposes theological ideas and concepts. Even though Entwistle
(2010) supports this notion to some extent, he claims that the way a person
understands the relationship between faith and science depends on individual
assumptions. If a psychologist could understand that there is a direct conflict between
faith and science, then they could appreciate why it is difficult to use science to
prove the intelligence of Christ (Entwistle,

Ans 1c)
In my project, there are numerous assumptions and limitations that are being
handled in the pseudo code. First of all, this program is only designed to calculate
the average age of all the family members that the user will input. There is no other
calculation that the program has been designed to do. Secondly, the program does
not give the user any option or chance to return to inputting more family members
if they forgot to do so at the beginning. This program was not designed to have a set
limit to how many inputs the user could enter. This list could keep going on and
on. This program is created to calculate and display both the Average age of family
Members and the residents who live in Texas. If the user wanted to display just one
of the results, the user would have to do the whole program just to get one of the
results. This is being handled by the pseudo code only being able to handle the
calculations that are set. The user does not have the ability to let the program know
how many family members will be entered before the user begins. To handle that, the
Count function is being used in the psuedocode to obtain the correct output.

solve the same problem definition of family member in Texas. As you have learned,

Let me write the songs of a nation, and I care not who writes its laws. So wrote the
Scottish statesman Andrew Fletcher, in summarizing the idea he found in the
writings of Plato. Fletcher fought vigorously against the Act of Union with England
in 1707, believing Scotland should be independent. I suppose he s turning over in his
grave and wishing he had written a few more ballads right about now. After fighting
as a legislator, soldier and author, Fletcher concluded that those who influenced the
daily lives of citizens by writing the popular songs and entertainments, had the power
to inspire their audience to action or inaction and, in his mind, to freedom or
submission. It s an interesting point; one that recognizes the power of the arts... Show

Character Analysis Of Detective Spade
Throughout the novel, nothing is told about Detective spade or his private life.
Unlike Detective Marlowe the reader learns that he once was an F.B investigator
that was fired. Detective Spade s past life is untold and unknown. Depending and
trusting no one but himself with no individual from his past to vouch for his
credibility trust by the people put with him. Has never displayed a weakness or
has shown vulnerability toward any force of nature or human being. He is viewed
as a stone cold individual that holds no emotions. Due to unknown information of
Detective Spade, the people view him as a mysterious individual. He is mysterious
in his own way and that creates fear in people when approaching him. Unable to
figure out who he truly is as an individual. Detective Spade engages in a
conversation with Mrs.Haven, No, we lived in Seattle the first year and then came
here. San Francisco all the time? No, we lived in Seattle the first year and then
came here He from Seattle? She shook her head. Someplace in Delaware. What
Place? I don t know. Spade drew his thickish brows together a little Where are you
from? She said sweetly, You re not hunting for me. You act like it, he grumbled.
Well, who are his friends? Don t ask me! He made an impatient grimace. You know
some of them he insisted. (Hammett, 2). Detective Shade has no interest in
Mrs.Havens feelings or emotions about her husband Eli Haven missing. He is
speaking to a woman who is unable to locate her husband and shows simply no
remorse or sympathy. He is interested in learning about the company he keeps around
him friend or acquaintance which will benefit his investigation. Insofar as it mirrors
the world, literature reflects the prevalent social attitude toward women; and since
this attitude so often values men and masculine pursuits over women and feminine
hobbies, women s concerns seem devalued. (Griffin pg 1). What Griffin states is
exactly what has taken place during the conversation between Mrs.Haven and
Detective Spade. Mrs.Haven during this conversation is being portrayed as being
women that are being questioned beyond her power, knowledge, and ability. When
Detective Spade is asking her questions she doesn t have
Impact Of Trade Compliance On The World Of Economics
1. Introduction In the world of Economics, the important word come to mind of
people is Trade. Trading has been done from the time when human begin start to
use tools that is circa 150,000 years ago(Watson 2005). Since then we have come a
large leap from trading small stone tools to sophisticated machineries and advance
software today. This report revolves about the specific topic of Trade Compliance
which is relatively new to the pitch compared to the age of trade. The term Trade
Compliance means that the trade done in with compliance to law of the countries
in which the parties perform the trade. When did all the regulation start on the
trade it dates to the time when the humans started to sail and import the goods of
value to their own nation and government start to put taxes on the goods which are
of high value this kind of regulation or the compliance is called the tariffing of
trade. This further developed when the world is further connected and all the
nation wants to do eat their share of pie in the world economics and thus bought
the introduction of the Harmonized Tariff System back in 1988(Aoki Sibylle Bauer

Reading and reads at an eighth grade level. In the classroom he seems to be hyper

Alzheimer s Disease Essay
Alzheimer s Disease Alzheimer s Disease (AD) is a progressive degenerative
disease of unknown aetiology, as first described by Alois Alzheimer (1907).
According to Shoenberg et. al (1987), it is the commonest cause of dementia in the
elderly with an incidence ranging from 2.5 to 5 per thousand. Furthermore, this
incidence has grown in recent years as a result people generally living longer. The
disease is incurable at present but there are drug treatments that delay the symptoms

According to the ICD 10 other causes of dementia (such as CVD, Parkinsons,
Corea, and Hydrocephalus) must be excluded before making a diagnosis of AD.
The ICD 10 diagnostic criterion for AD is verbal and non verbal memory decline,
decline of all other cognitive abilities, objective evaluation, environmental
awareness, emotional weakness, irritability, apathy and disorders of behaviour. A
history of these symptoms proceeding at least 6 months must also be present.
However, this is not the case with the DSM IV. The DSM IV criteria starts the same
as the ICD 10 with memory impairment, then states one or more cognitive deficits
(aphasia, apraxia, agnosia) must be present. On top of this, there must also be
deficits in executive functions, deficits interfering with working and social activities,
gradual changes compared with previous evaluations and slow progressive decline.
As with the ICD 10, the DSM IV also states that other causes of dementia must be
excluded. These are the same as seen in the ICD 10 but also include additional causes
such as subdural haematoma, tumour, neurosyphilis and AIDS. The differences
between these two diagnostic tools show the first problem in diagnosing AD. This
may be the reason that they are not the most common tool used for

Senator Bell), and two teachers (Mr. Hundert Mr. Ellerbe). We will dive into the
changes and what caused these changes in this essay. First we ll examine the first
Mr. Hundert and Sedgewick Bell. This teacher and student had many ups and
downs in their experiences. Let s see what they were. I could see that he was not
only a dullard but a roustabout. This statement alone shows you the initial standing
in the classroom. Sedgwick was an underachieving, troublemaker. The narrator,
Mr. Hundert, knew he would have a problem with him from the jump. Sedgwick
caused a problem as soon as he entered the classroom, causing laughter. From that
first day, Sedgewick Bell was a boor and a bully, a damper to the illumination of the
eager minds of my boys and a purveyor of the mean spirited humor that is like
kerosene in a school such as ours. Yes, he immediately caused problems. Mr.
Hundert disliked him very much, but something made him change his mind. After
weeks of being tormented by Sedgwick s behavior, Mr. Hundert thought it was time
to do a parent visit. This meant that Mr. Hundert would have to travel to D.C to meet
with Senator Bell. Yes, Sedgwick is a Senator s son. This man was regarded very
high by Mr.Hundert, until after their talk. He thought for a moment, idly fingering a

What Does The Light Symbolize In The Black Cat
Authors who write literature often put their feelings into their work which can cause
us to connect with how the authors feel sometimes. Authors as well have some sort
of past so that often without thinking write something that can be a symbolize
something from their past, so if they had a bad past then their literature may be
tragic or gothic. For example The Black Cat written by Edgar Allan Poeuses a light
and dark theme which can go along with the gothic theme. Light and Dark
symbolize how dark Poe s childhood was since he writes about death, murder, and
other gory storylines. Poe uses light and dark to show the different aspects of the
narrators and how guilt can consume a person. One example of the thesis is the
black cat who was in the wall with the corpse the whole time. The quote for this
found on page eight goes like this I had walled the monster up within the wall so the
narrator never noticed when the cat slipped into the tomb with the corpse and was in
the tomb for days. This quote supports the thesis... Show more content on

The quote for the light part of my thesis is I love the old man this represents the
light part because he loved him he cared for the old man but couldn t hold back his
fears and madness. The dark quote is Villans! I shrieked, dissemble no more! I
admit the deed! tear up the planks here, here! It is the beating of his hideous heart
this means that the guilt has consumed him but before that he went through so

Pacific Railway Act Research Paper
The Pacific Railway Act passed in 1862. Which paved the way for two companies
the Central Pacific and the Union Pacific to construct a railroad that would connect
Omaha, Nebraska to the west coast. With this type of expansion the railroad became
the easiest way of moving westward. Since this was the easiest form of
transportation of goods the Western settlement increased and more railroads were
built. It was also the easiest way to get goods to the market. This meant that the
settlement revolved around where the different locations of the railroad depots would
be built. Which in turn made the residents move their markets and ranches closer to a
railroad so they could transport their goods. In turn the placement of the railroad

Traditional IRA Definition
After closing the safe deposit box, closing the traditional IRA was the next task on
the administrative plan. Earlier in the administration, while in the interim, I called
the custodian of the traditional IRA to inform them of my Uncle s death. We
talked about the account, but couldn t do anything at the time because I haven t
received approval to act as executor. So, at the end of the call, the representative
said, When you receive your approval letter call back and we ll discuss the IRA.
After the call, I put aside the matter of closing the traditional IRA to deal with later.
As a few weeks went by and since been approved as executor, the custodial bank sent
me a letter in early December, 2012. In short, the letter served as a reminder... Show

option may require keeping the estate open longer than the 5 year rule, it wasn t a

The other options require keeping the estate open longer than required and I have no

Nietzsche s Philosophy On Personal Life And Education
Friedrich Nietzsche was a German, writer, poet, thinker and philopher. He was
renowned for his ideas on the end of religion, existentialism and the concept of good
and evil. Nietzsche focused essentially on the end of religion. He once declared that
God is dead , a statement that decidedly defied Christianity as well as morality.
According to the Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy, he was rapt in the
development of individual and cultural health, and believed in life, creativity, power,
and down to earth realities, rather than those situated in a world beyond . Nietzsche s
work inspired the likes of famed psychologist such as Sigmund Freud as well as other
philosophers. Although most of his ideas opposed what other philosophers such as
Plato, Immanuel Kantand John Stuart Mills have taught us, his theories on
metaphysics, ethics, and politics may very well have independently shape society has
it is today.
Personal Life and Education
Friedrich Wilhelm Nietzsche was born on October 15, 1844 in Röcken Germany.
He was raised as a Lutheran where his father served as a pastor. However, in later
years, Nietzsche developed a certain disregard for the church and abandon
Christianity all together, thus proclaiming God is dead. The death of his father and
younger brother proved rather distressing for young Nietzsche who was the only
male in a household filled with women. He attended prestigious boarding school
where he proved his capabilities in the classics, literature and
Changes in Russia Captured in the Works of Anton
Chekhov...
Anton Chekhov (1860 1904) was born a year before the emancipation of serfism in
Russia took place. Although he was the grandson of a serf, Chekhov was able to
attend the medical school at the University of Moscow and become a physician.
Chekhov started writing in order to support his family economically, becoming a
master in drama and short stories. His literature is characterized by the use of
colloquial language which could be understood even by the less educated and
recently liberated serfs. Social change is the main theme in The Cherry Orchard, a
four act play written in 1904. In this play the different characters portray how changes
in Russiaafter the emancipation of 1861 were taking place and although the play is

However, many peasants, although liberated, remained in their state of peasants
following the old regime. These men are symbolized by Firs, an old servant for
whom freedom was insignificant. He stays loyal, working in the Cherry Orchard as a
serf since he had no other opportunities in life. Firs and Lohpakin on one side contrast
Madame Ranevsky and Gayef her brother. The first two portraying two different ways
in which emancipation affected peasants, and the last two, showing how the
emancipation affected Russian aristocracy.
The past is constantly mentioned by the characters in this play. Even the cherry
orchard as property, is a symbol of the Old Russian regime. The end of the Old
Regime therefore, is portrayed by Chekhov when at the end of the play Lohpakin
becomes the owner of the estate and cuts the cherry orchard. Chekhov, as a
contemporary observer, uses his play to criticize some aspects of the emancipation
of 1861. The message he leaves is that although the emancipation was an important
step towards freedom, it was not the only one to be made. This message, besides
being given throughout the novel, is also stated by Trofimov, an idealist student
who realizes how far Russia is from achieving real freedom. At the end of Act 2,
Trofivom tells Anya, Madame Ranevskaya s 17 year old daughter: ...In order to start
living in the present, we first have to redeem our past, make an end of it, and we can
only do that through suffering... .

Analysis Of Extrinsic Motivation
Dan Pink also speaks of the discrepancy between what science knows and how we
motivate others. The evidence he showed was giving an extrinsic reward produces
substandard results when individuals where asked to complete a job where critical
thinking was needed to complete the task at hand. Individuals become less creative
and unable to solve problems when they are given a reward in the end. Dan showed
that people are motivated by cognitive task than those who are rewarded.
Dan also points out that removing extrinsic motivation actually encourages more
creative thinking and ultimately job satisfaction. When people are doing task that
interest them and they are doing what they want to do, they are more likely to be
rewarded personally.
Extrinsic motivation has failed where I work at due to it going on well past it s time

The same flat dollar incentive was still offered but an additional dollar per hour
was added to the employees pay depending on their job code. Staff could get as
high as an additional five dollars per hour to their pay rate; again for that extra
time worked over their required schedule. Then if the employee worked so many
additional hours in twelve weeks, they would receive a bonus depending on their
job code. Registered nurses would receive $1500; CNA s would receive $500, and
technicians would receive $100.00.
But the hospital failed to do the bonus pay correctly and several employees
throughout the organization did not receive the bonus on the day the hospital had
said they would be paid. This caused staff members to be mad at myself since I am
their timekeeper, the nurse manager, directors, payroll, compensation, and the

The Role Of Women In Aristophanes s Lysistrata
Aristophanes s play Lysistrata is about a sex strike and describes women working
around their inferior status in society to fulfill their primary duty to their country by
putting other duties to the side to persuade men to end the war. This illustrates the
duties of both women and men with an emphasis on the duties of the woman while
also detailing a few key differences between genders. While these duties and
differences are described throughout the entirety of the play, the interactions of
Lysistrata, Myrrhine, and Kinesias in scene five illustrate them with clearer detail.
This implies that while women may be inferior citizens in a society, they have
loyalties and responsibilities, and they prove to be intellectual, rational equals to male
citizens. Lysistrata describes each genders basic community obligations through
dialogue between characters. Because the play is primarily written as sympathetic to
the women s cause, it puts more of an emphasis on the woman s duties, but it does
reference the men s duties as well.
The primary duties of women can be simplified to a few topics: honor, country,
household, husband, and children. The primary obligations, however, seem to rest
firmly in honor and country as shown by Myrrhine s repeated mention of her oath
when her husband tries to persuade her to sleep with him (page 88, lines 900 20).
The oath that Myrrhine refers to was formed in scene one, when she agreed with
other women to go on a sex strike in order to stop the war
The Toronto Transit System And Municipal Transit Agency
Over the past several years, Toronto has struggled to find new dedicated streams of
revenue to fund its regional transit system, all while Metrolinx, the provincial transit
agency is developing the province s Big Move plan in hopes of connecting the
Greater Toronto and
Hamilton Area transportation system. The province stopped funding the TTC s
operating funds in 1996 and since then, the City of Toronto has relied on a subsidy
from the city and fares to balance this. Later in 2006, Metrolinx was created by the
Province of Ontario as the first
Regional Transportation Agency for the GTHA and in 2016, Move the GTHA
reveals a $30 billion funding gap which begs the questions of who should fund the
regional transit system and by what mechanisms? It is very hard for a city as large as
Toronto to keep up with its funding for regional transit without much efforts from the
provincial or federal government. The Toronto Transit
Commission (TTC) is falling behind on a massive deficit when funding its Operating
Budget.
Only two thirds of the TTC s Operating Budget are covered by fares. These fares
generate about $1.1 billion of the TTC s $1.6 billion operating budget. The rest
primarily comes from a city subsidy, which is $428 million, up from $411 million in
2013 according to Jennifer Palisoc
(Palisoc, 2014). With the continuous struggle of efforts to get Toronto s transit system
back up on its feet again, the Province of Ontario created Metrolinx; an organization
Clockwork Orange
Clockwork Orange critique
Clockwork orange is a book that talks about a young man named Alex and his gang
that just go around committing one crime after the other in their community. Alex
later on in the story got set up by his gang members and got arrested for all the
crimes that he committed including killing people. Alex was then sentenced to
fourteen years in prison and during his time in prison; Alex got recruited for an
experiment that the government is working on to be the first prisoner to take part in
this experiment. At the end of it all, Alex went through the experiment and just like
everything else has side effects, Alex went through the experiment s effect with the
consequences of the actions that send him there in the first place.
Apart from the language being hard to understand, clockwork orange is a very

such what was the government thinking putting Alex through that experiment, and
why do they want to change someone who did not ask for their help to change at

Gods and used to communicate with the Pthumerians, the ancient inhabitants of the
city of Yharnam. That communication with the Great Ones allowed the Pthumerians
to ascend to a new level of existence, enhancing their physical abilities and allowing
them to use powers akin to magic, arcane powers. Furthermore, an average
Pthumerian could live longer than humans by a long stretch. Evidence of that was
provided when scholars encountered few of them during their numerous tomb

the gods are buried. Killing one of them takes immense power and reflexes. Many
scholars had lost their lives going into the tomb where the first Pthumerian was

Drones In The Middle East
Another significant reason for the use of drones in the Middle East is because
they have proven to be an invaluable way to keep our ground troops safe. According
to Oestergaard, the MQ 1B Predator drone has a range of 777 miles and a
maximum flight time of 40 hours while carrying two Hellfire missiles. The MQ
9A Reaper drone has a range of 1,151 miles and a maximum flight time of 30 hours.
When it has a full payload of four Hellfire missiles and two laser guided bombs it
has a maximum flight time of fourteen hours (Oestergaard 5 6). The lengthy flight
time and catastrophic payload is a lifeline for our troops on the ground. These drones
can be used for both surveillance and direct contact situations. For example, if a

Scott Shane quotes Micah Zenko in his article when he says ... a total of eight
Americans have been killed in drone strikes. Of those, only one, the American
cleric Anwar al Awlaki, who joined Al Qaeda in Yemen and was killed in 2011,
was identified and deliberately targeted (Shane, Zenko 3). Shane is correct when
he says that drones should not target Americans, but he fails to mention why they
were targeted. These eight Americans were killed because, they were engaged in
hostile activity towards the United States. Awlaki was a part of Al Qaeda and was
actively plotting to take down the United States. The other seven Americans were
not innocent, these people were killed in the blast of drone strikes that were
targeting enemy combatants. They were not hostages, but they were still in the
immediate vicinity of they hostiles. The other seven were just like Awlaki, they
were there to join one of the terrorist groups we are at war with. That is the only
way that those citizens were that close to those enemies. The second argument
against the use of drones is that drone pilots are at risk of developing psychological
disorders. Lindsay Warrior, the author of Drones and Targeted Killing , says that
[m]uch of the discussion surrounding drones emphasizes the fact that their use
reduces the risk of U.S.

How does this definition tie the people in this array to courage? What do they all
have in common? Each of these figures was a strong, successful leader. It is not a
coincidence that this definition of courage coincides with great leadership. There are
many other examples and definitions of courage, such as the other definition
offered by Oxford: strength in the face of pain or grief (Oxford). Here, we have a
broader definition of courage that is less inclusive to negative examples. Yet, this
definition also embodies great leadership. Any leader of a minority group that has
overcome obstacles to achieve their goals fits into this definition, such as the
previously mentioned Nelson Mandela. Mandela protested against racism in the
South African government and helped to destroy South Africa s apartheid system (
Nelson Mandela ). Mandela contributed to the good life, embodied by life, liberty
and the pursuit of happiness by offering victims of discrimination opportunities to
seek greater liberty and happiness. All inspiring, influential leaders have
contributed to the good life for people facing injustice. Not all leaders, however,
have made the good life their goal. Leaders like Hitler and Bin Laden made it
impossible for millions of individuals to live the good life, so how is courage the
most necessary trait for living the good life? These individuals were courageous but

Socrates The Apology Analysis
In this week s reading, The Apology, Socrates expresses some strong views on
wisdom and death. This essay discusses some of these views, specifically in regards
to wisdom despite Socrates professions of not being wise.
In Socrates professions of not being wise, he tells a story of his quest to find one
wiser then himself. Socrates explains that as he has met with men of various
professions that thought themselves to be wise and that were considered to be wise
by others. Through examining those men in his various meetings, Socrates finds that
the people who have great reputations and believe themselves to be wise are actually
less wise than those with lesser reputations and less arrogance. He states, I found that
the men most in repute were all but the most foolish; and that others less esteemed
were really wiser and better. ,
In many of his encounters with self professed wise men, Socrates realized that this ...

Socrates believes that real wisdom lies with the gods, and human wisdom is
worthless. As an example of this, Socrates shows that when the Delphi said that he
was the wisest person, he did not mean Socrates as an individual, but instead as an
example of a person who realizes that human wisdom is worthless. Socrates claims
that he gained his reputation from having human wisdom, and not from any divine
intervention. However, he believes that it is divine duty to spread wisdom. He
believes this whole heartedly, stating that if were to be released with only one

shall never cease from the practice and teaching of philosophy... It is clear as to what
Socrates regards as a priority; wealth and honor are trifling concerns next to the

Buffy the Vampire Slayer struck while he was watching horror films and TV shows
in which pretty women run away from or get killed by monsters in alleyways.
Whedon claims he wanted to give this paradigmatic girl victim a new role: that of
the monster killing hero. Whedon s explanation of his own artistic inspiration reveals

specifically, Clover argues convincingly that these subgenres (especially the slasher
film) make possible certain quasi transgressive viewer identifications: she proves
that the mostly male audience of the slasher film identifies less with the sadistic
monster than with the monster s female victim heroes. Clover ends her book by
imagining a different kind of audience, this one for her own work: at least some
horror filmmakers read Freud . . . and film criticism (232), she notes. Ultimately, she
challenges these hypothetical, literate filmmakers: though the slasher film proper
has died down. . . . There may . . . be life in the amazingly durable and adaptable
vampire movie she claims. And, she adds, contemporary horror films do not take the
kind of brazen tack into the psychosexual wilderness that made horror in the seventies
and eighties such a marvelously transparent object of study. Unless and until the
direction changes again, I suspect we will soon be back to the dominant fiction in its
dominant forms, out of which we must dig meanings rather than have them displayed
so obviously and so
Mold Mould Research Paper
What To Expect When You Have Mold Removed From Your Attic
If your roof has been leaking and you didn t know about it, there could be water
damage in your attic. Mold is also a big concern because it will grow quickly in
damp conditions when the weather is warm. If your attic has mold in it, you should
call a professional to clean it out. It s dangerous to clean up large amounts of mold
yourself, even if it isn t black mold. Here s the general process you can expect.
Put On Protective Equipment
It s necessary to wear protective gear when working around mold. This includes a
covering over your clothes as well as gloves and a face mask. The mask should be
rated for filtering mold so there is no risk of inhaling the mold spores. If you have ...

The insulation has to be bagged up and removed from the attic. If you store clutter
in the attic in boxes, there s a chance paper and fabric items are ruined too. You
may be able to restore valuable items, but they should be removed from your attic
for sorting outdoors so the space is cleared for cleaning.
Install A Ventilation System
Your attic is probably stuffy with little air circulation. The crew will install a
ventilation system that draws mold spores out of the attic rather than filling the air
with them inside your house. Pulling the spores outdoors keeps the mold from
circulating through your house and landing in a different humid place where they
can grow. Preventing the spread of mold also keeps your family safe, so be sure to
follow any instructions the crew many give you about turning your HVAC off if
necessary to help prevent spread of mold.
Disinfect The Attic Surfaces
After the attic is cleared and prepped, cleaning the mold can begin. This involves
using chemicals designed to kill mold. It may be necessary to scrub the ceiling or
walls to get rid of all the spores. This also removes the musty, mildew odor that
accompanies mold. Once all the mold has been removed, the attic is dried out
thoroughly before new insulation is
Huskies Showcase Reflective Report
Presenting in the Huskies Showcase was a very new experience to me. I have
never had the experience to conduct research and present it in a setting like the
Huskies Showcase. I feel I learned a lot through the process and grew as a student.
I gained a great deal of useful skills relating to collecting research and presenting
what I learned to an audience. I will be able to apply these skills to future skills
and become a more successful student. When I first was first beginning to work on
this project, I was overwhelmed by the amount of work that was needed to
complete it. I was worried I would be unable to balance the workload from the
project with my other classes. I had no previous experience doing something like
this, so I wasn t sure what to expect. To combat the large workload, I planned on
evenly spacing the work out throughout the semester. I was able to stick with the
plan at first, but as the semester went on a slowly got more and more behind. As the
due date approached, I rescheduled the work I had left. I made a strong effort to
stick to this schedule so I wouldn t have to do all the work the night before the project
was due. Not putting everything off until the last night greatly reduced the amount of
stress that could... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Prior to beginning my research, I had a basic understanding of the topic, but I did
not know close to enough to write a ten page paper about it. This forced me to do
extensive research to make sure I would hit the ten page mark. I was able to
acquire a large amount of information on the topic through this research. This was
not only useful for completing the research paper; everyone should have an
understanding of the inequalities African Americans face. Because of this, I am
very glad I chose the topic I did. I was unaware of many of the issues I discovered
through my research. I will keep these issues in mind as I continue to become a more
active member in
Comparing Zefferelli s Film
Zefferelli vs. Baz Luhrmann Shirin Shahsavari 3/10/16 Although Zefferelli s film is
a better book to movie adaptation of Shakespeare s famous play, Romeo and Juliet ,
Baz Luhrmann s version is a lot more entertaining and comprehensible to most
teenagers because of its modern setting. Perhaps, one of the most substantial visible
contrasts between the two films is the setting. Zeffirelli s film takes place in a
classical setting, accurately representing the actual historic period in which the play
was written in. However, in Luhrmann s version the setting has been completely
transformed to make the film more modern and therefore easier for the audience to
understand and relate to. The modern setting makes the film more intriguing and
apprehensible
The Physics of Piano
One of the most common musical instruments in many homes is the piano; and most
people have the opportunity for even a few lessons in their youth. However, despite
the simplicity of its lines and keys (88 keys), 2 3 pedals on the modern piano, and
either upright (vertical) or grand style (horizontal), the physics of the pianoare both
interesting and complex. The modern piano is a descendent of the harpsichord,
which used a plucking technique much like that of plucking the strings of a harp or
lute. Bartolomeo Crisotofori, an Italian craftsman, substituted felt hammers in place
of the plucking mechanism, making the instrument capable of graduations of tone
and timber. He called his new instrument the Gravicembalo col piano e forte (a
harpsichord with louds and softs). This was later shortened to the piano and with
critiques from Baroque composers like Bach, a number of improvements were
made to sound quality and tonality eventually emerging as the preferred keyboard
instrument for Mozart, Haydn, and Beethoven. Over the course of centuries to
different piano types have emerged. The grand piano, from 5 6 to 8 or 9 in length
horizontal to the upright piano, more suitable for the home, which also exists in
differing sizes, 3 5; in height (Parakilas). The mechanism of a piano consists of
pressing on a key (either black or white) on the keyboard causing a felt covered
hammer to strike steel strings that are various lengths and tensions. The hammers
rebound; allowing the

How Has the Internet Affected Sex Addiction Running head: How has the Internet Affected Sex Addiction How has the Internet Affected Sex Addiction Edward Vega Jr. National University Abstract Sex addicts have plenty to struggle without adding the access to their wildest fantasies. That is what the Internet has given them. Addicts can get online and search pornography, cybersex sites and sites where they can find people to meet up with. The Internet makes it that much easier for sex addicts because just like any other addict they are ashamed of their addiction but with the Internet they do not have to worry about it cause they can do whatever they want from the comfort of their own home. They became so consumed with this feeling that they soon avoid their responsibilities; work, family, school etc. Things like cybersex and sex shops have a big impact on marriages, families and even the addict themselves. Consumers of cybersex may manifest changes in sleep patterns, demands for privacy and isolation, disregard for responsibilities, changes in personality, loss of interest in partner sex, and decline in relationship investment all of which impact one s spouse and family (Young et al., 2000) (Journal of Marital and Family Therapy, 2008). Addicts worry so much about getting their fix that they never stop and think about the people around them. It is no longer come home from work and cook dinner or help around the house, it is all about coming home from work and getting on the best porn site or sex cam. Most families get use to a routine of some sort and for the most part stick to that routine on a day to day basis. By doing this we are building confidence, security and relationships with our family. Now if the routine was to change in any way it would affect people in different ways. So when a family member starts to get more and more involved with cybersex it really has an impact on the whole family. This is what an article from Journal of Marital and Family Therapy had to say, The fundamental assumptions of this

Battleship Potemkin, directed by Sergei Eisenstein was the example of how editing created emotions to the viewers in the theatre. The editing made the sequence into a lesson of how the Soviet Unionauthority was pressuring the public with complete dominance of violence. Battleship Potemkin is a movie produced by Eisenstein in 1925. A film about the Soviet Union soldiers life on the battleship and how they disobey their authoritative generals. A Brief Note On Fracking And Its Effects On The World Waterless Fracking: GasFrac For many years now, oil and gas have been harvested from deep beneath the Earth s surface using thousands and millions of gallons of water, known as hydraulic fracking. Environmental critics have brought up issues with this type of fracking. The main being that while using these massive amounts of water every time a well is fracked, all the used water, when finished, is causing significant amounts of pollution. In response to the current criticism, engineers have developed waterless fracking operations, where propanegel, butane, and other liquid and gas alternatives are used to break the shale that is deep beneath the Earth s surface. Even though this new water free system does not use the massive amounts of water like its hydraulic counterpart, there are still critics saying that it has its own environmental impacts. Assessing these impacts and therefore the philosophical justifications for this sort of method provides support for its continued use. I : Background Though completely different approaches to fracking were introduced over the last decade, the thought and process of fracking isn t new. Within the oil and gas industries, fracking is any method that involves the forcing of many different substances into the fully grown to access oil or gas in the layers of sedimentary rock. While drilling is done vertically, fracking occurs horizontally (MacRae). Increasing need for access to natural gas and oil in this country and the belief that

The use of slang in today s society is increasingly becoming more and more common. However, this new, modern way of speaking also comes with negative connotations. For this reason, people have had to learn to adapt their speech to their situation. I will be discussing the reasons behind the use of slang, why some people disapprove of it and I will analyse how people change the way in which they speak depending on their situation. Many young people use slang in order to fit in with their peers. Because slang is mainly spoken by younger people, the use of it almost puts up a barrier between children and adults. This barrier gives the youth a sense of rebellion. This may be one of the reasons why slang is so popular with the younger generations, this feeling gives them a sense of freedom and independence. Additionally, this may also be one of the reasons why many people disapprove of the use of slang. Some people believe that the use of slang suggests bad manners and morals, this leads to them distrusting people who use slang. People also believe that the common use of slang is causing the deterioration of Standard English. This can cause many problems in society because it is easy for assumptions to be made about people because of the way they speak. For this reason, the younger generation have learnt to adapt the way they speak around different

They wrap their large chunky fingers around it and begin to scribble unpredictably, ignoring the outline of the flower. One student of the students jumps out of her seat and runs to the corner of the room. She screams so violently that the other students working at the desk are now distracted by her outburst. She wraps her hands around her shivering legs, and presses her sweaty palms into her ears. This particular student is autistic, and suffers from several unforeseeable meltdowns throughout the day. The teacher runs over to the child with a tablet pressed against her chest, while the aide takes over the two students working at the desk. This has been her fourth outbreak in the day; however, this one has been more severe than the others. She begins to rip his tightly knotted boots off her feet and launches it across the small room. She throws her body onto the cold tiled floor and bangs her forehead, causing her to scream even louder than before. In schools all around the country, teachers are helping children with special needs overcome pivotal obstacles that they are faced with almost everyday. However, he emphasizes that the interaction between psychologyand Christianitycannot be avoided because the two concepts help people to understand the source of humanbehavior, as well as the healing process of a broken heart (Entwistle, 2010, p. 51). Even though Entwistle (2010) supports this notion to some extent, he claims that the way a person understands the relationship between faith and science depends on individual assumptions. If a psychologist could understand that there is a direct conflict between faith and science, then they could appreciate why it is difficult to use science to prove the intelligence of Christ (Entwistle,

First of all, this program is only designed to calculate the average age of all the family members that the user will input. There is no other calculation that the program has been designed to do. Secondly, the program does not give the user any option or chance to return to inputting more family members if they forgot to do so at the beginning. This program was not designed to have a set limit to how many inputs the user could enter. This list could keep going on and on. This program is created to calculate and display both the Average age of family Members and the residents who live in Texas. If the user wanted to display just one of the results, the user would have to do the whole program just to get one of the results. This is being handled by the pseudo code only being able to handle the calculations that are set. The user does not have the ability to let the program know how many family members will be entered before the user begins. To handle that, the Count function is being used in the psuedocode to obtain the correct output. 1 d) Provide an alternative analysis and design approach showing a different way to solve the same problem definition of family member in Texas. Mrs.Haven during this conversation is being portrayed as being women that are being questioned beyond her power, knowledge, and ability. When Detective Spade is asking her questions she doesn t have

  • 26. Nietzsche s Philosophy On Personal Life And Education Friedrich Nietzsche was a German, writer, poet, thinker and philopher. He was renowned for his ideas on the end of religion, existentialism and the concept of good and evil. Nietzsche focused essentially on the end of religion. He once declared that God is dead , a statement that decidedly defied Christianity as well as morality. According to the Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy, he was rapt in the development of individual and cultural health, and believed in life, creativity, power, and down to earth realities, rather than those situated in a world beyond . Nietzsche s work inspired the likes of famed psychologist such as Sigmund Freud as well as other philosophers. Although he was the grandson of a serf, Chekhov was able to attend the medical school at the University of Moscow and become a physician. Chekhov started writing in order to support his family economically, becoming a master in drama and short stories. His literature is characterized by the use of colloquial language which could be understood even by the less educated and recently liberated serfs. The first two portraying two different ways in which emancipation affected peasants, and the last two, showing how the emancipation affected Russian aristocracy. The past is constantly mentioned by the characters in this play. Even the cherry orchard as property, is a symbol of the Old Russian regime. The end of the Old Regime therefore, is portrayed by Chekhov when at the end of the play Lohpakin becomes the owner of the estate and cuts the cherry orchard. Chekhov, as a contemporary observer, uses his play to criticize some aspects of the emancipation of 1861. The message he leaves is that although the emancipation was an important step towards freedom, it was not the only one to be made. This message, besides being given throughout the novel, is also stated by Trofimov, an idealist student who realizes how far Russia is from achieving real freedom. At the end of Act 2, Trofivom tells Anya, Madame Ranevskaya s 17 year old daughter: ...In order to start living in the present, we first have to redeem our past, make an end of it, and we can only do that through suffering... . The evidence he showed was giving an extrinsic reward produces substandard results when individuals where asked to complete a job where critical thinking was needed to complete the task at hand. Individuals become less creative and unable to solve problems when they are given a reward in the end. Dan showed that people are motivated by cognitive task than those who are rewarded. Dan also points out that removing extrinsic motivation actually encourages more creative thinking and ultimately job satisfaction. When people are doing task that interest them and they are doing what they want to do, they are more likely to be rewarded personally. • 29. The Role Of Women In Aristophanes s Lysistrata Aristophanes s play Lysistrata is about a sex strike and describes women working around their inferior status in society to fulfill their primary duty to their country by putting other duties to the side to persuade men to end the war. This illustrates the duties of both women and men with an emphasis on the duties of the woman while also detailing a few key differences between genders. While these duties and differences are described throughout the entirety of the play, the interactions of Lysistrata, Myrrhine, and Kinesias in scene five illustrate them with clearer detail. This implies that while women may be inferior citizens in a society, they have loyalties and responsibilities, and they prove to be intellectual, rational equals to male citizens. Lysistrata describes each genders basic community obligations through dialogue between characters. Because the play is primarily written as sympathetic to the women s cause, it puts more of an emphasis on the woman s duties, but it does reference the men s duties as well. The primary duties of women can be simplified to a few topics: honor, country, household, husband, and children. The primary obligations, however, seem to rest firmly in honor and country as shown by Myrrhine s repeated mention of her oath when her husband tries to persuade her to sleep with him (page 88, lines 900 20). The oath that Myrrhine refers to was formed in scene one, when she agreed with other women to go on a sex strike in order to stop the war

The Toronto Transit System And Municipal Transit Agency Over the past several years, Toronto has struggled to find new dedicated streams of revenue to fund its regional transit system, all while Metrolinx, the provincial transit agency is developing the province s Big Move plan in hopes of connecting the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area transportation system. The province stopped funding the TTC s operating funds in 1996 and since then, the City of Toronto has relied on a subsidy from the city and fares to balance this. Later in 2006, Metrolinx was created by the Province of Ontario as the first Regional Transportation Agency for the GTHA and in 2016, Move the GTHA reveals a $30 billion funding gap which begs the questions of who should fund the regional transit system and by what mechanisms? It is very hard for a city as large as Toronto to keep up with its funding for regional transit without much efforts from the provincial or federal government. The Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) is falling behind on a massive deficit when funding its Operating Budget. Only two thirds of the TTC s Operating Budget are covered by fares. Shane is correct when he says that drones should not target Americans, but he fails to mention why they were targeted. These eight Americans were killed because, they were engaged in hostile activity towards the United States. Awlaki was a part of Al Qaeda and was actively plotting to take down the United States. It may be necessary to scrub the ceiling or walls to get rid of all the spores. This also removes the musty, mildew odor that accompanies mold. Once all the mold has been removed, the attic is dried out thoroughly before new insulation is

I have never had the experience to conduct research and present it in a setting like the Huskies Showcase. I feel I learned a lot through the process and grew as a student. I gained a great deal of useful skills relating to collecting research and presenting what I learned to an audience. I will be able to apply these skills to future skills and become a more successful student. When I first was first beginning to work on this project, I was overwhelmed by the amount of work that was needed to complete it. I was worried I would be unable to balance the workload from the project with my other classes. I had no previous experience doing something like this, so I wasn t sure what to expect. To combat the large workload, I planned on evenly spacing the work out throughout the semester. I was able to stick with the plan at first, but as the semester went on a slowly got more and more behind. As the due date approached, I rescheduled the work I had left. I made a strong effort to stick to this schedule so I wouldn t have to do all the work the night before the project was due. Not putting everything off until the last night greatly reduced the amount of stress that could... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Prior to beginning my research, I had a basic understanding of the topic, but I did not know close to enough to write a ten page paper about it. This forced me to do extensive research to make sure I would hit the ten page mark. I was able to acquire a large amount of information on the topic through this research. This was not only useful for completing the research paper; everyone should have an understanding of the inequalities African Americans face. Because of this, I am very glad I chose the topic I did. I was unaware of many of the issues I discovered through my research. I will keep these issues in mind as I continue to become a more active member in

Comparing Zefferelli s Film Zefferelli vs. Baz Luhrmann Shirin Shahsavari 3/10/16 Although Zefferelli s film is a better book to movie adaptation of Shakespeare s famous play, Romeo and Juliet , Baz Luhrmann s version is a lot more entertaining and comprehensible to most teenagers because of its modern setting. Perhaps, one of the most substantial visible contrasts between the two films is the setting. Zeffirelli s film takes place in a classical setting, accurately representing the actual historic period in which the play was written in. However, in Luhrmann s version the setting has been completely transformed to make the film more modern and therefore easier for the audience to understand and relate to. The modern setting makes the film more intriguing and apprehensible

However, despite the simplicity of its lines and keys (88 keys), 2 3 pedals on the modern piano, and either upright (vertical) or grand style (horizontal), the physics of the pianoare both interesting and complex. The modern piano is a descendent of the harpsichord, which used a plucking technique much like that of plucking the strings of a harp or lute. Bartolomeo Crisotofori, an Italian craftsman, substituted felt hammers in place of the plucking mechanism, making the instrument capable of graduations of tone and timber. He called his new instrument the Gravicembalo col piano e forte (a harpsichord with louds and softs). This was later shortened to the piano and with critiques from Baroque composers like Bach, a number of improvements were made to sound quality and tonality eventually emerging as the preferred keyboard instrument for Mozart, Haydn, and Beethoven. Over the course of centuries to different piano types have emerged. The grand piano, from 5 6 to 8 or 9 in length horizontal to the upright piano, more suitable for the home, which also exists in differing sizes, 3 5; in height (Parakilas). The mechanism of a piano consists of pressing on a key (either black or white) on the keyboard causing a felt covered hammer to strike steel strings that are various lengths and tensions. The hammers rebound; allowing the
