Hamlet's father, the King of Denmark, dies suddenly and Hamlet's mother Gertrude quickly marries Hamlet's uncle Claudius. One night, the ghost of Hamlet's father appears and tells Hamlet that he was murdered by Claudius. Hamlet decides to feign madness to investigate further. He stages a play mimicking the murder to confirm Claudius' guilt. When Claudius reacts with alarm, Hamlet knows the ghost told the truth. A fight between Hamlet and Laertes, arranged by Claudius to kill Hamlet, ends with both men dying by poison along with Gertrude, leaving Denmark without a ruler.
