Airline Alliances
Airline Alliances an Analysis
Introduction:
Liberalisation of the Airline Market now allows carriers to engage in alliances to form more powerful
synergy s and capture a larger share of the market. Since the introduction of The Airline Deregulation
Act in 1978 in North America and similar acts worldwide the aviation industry has become one of the
fastest growing industries. The main objective of this was to allow the market place to influence the
development of airlines. The main development from this was that airlines find it more beneficial if
they join alliances. In this report I will discuss why airlines engage in alliances, identify the strategic
benefits of alliances and assess their effectiveness.
Why airlines engage in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By pooling resources alliances can reduce unit costs and achieve greater cost efficiencies through
more efficient utilisation of resources such as sharing landing slots, maintenance teams, IT systems
and labour. Airlines also have the opportunity of engaging in joint purchasing agreements and make
considerable savings. When we look at the Star Alliance which was founded in 1997 we see that they
have made considerable savings from joint purchasing agreements. Earlier this year The Star Alliance
leveraged its purchasing power with the procurement of new economy class seats. As well as reducing
the cost of seat ownership the airline will also benefit of reduced future fuel costs due to the seats
being made of lighter materials.
The demand side benefits of Strategic Alliances include accessing new markets through availing of
new landing slots. Landing slots are a big plus from strategic alliances. Currently Virgin Airways are
looking for landing slots at London s main airports to fly to destinations in Asia including Bangalore.
Through the potential prospect of joining the Alliance Sir Richard Branson hopes to secure these slots.
Alliances enable airlines to offer a more seamless network of flights to customers due to their
collaborative efforts. Alliances also have the option to use code sharing which enables consumers to
book space on the same flights through multiple airlines websites.

Efficacy And Safety Of Accelerated Crosslinking System
Purpose: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of accelerated crosslinking system in the treatment of
.keratoconus
Methods: Accelerated crosslinking was done using the CCL 365 18 Peschke GmbH. Follow up was
done after 3 days for contact lens removal, then after 1 week, 1 month, 3 months and 6 months for
assessment of uncorrected visual acuity, best corrected visual acuity and slit lamp
.examination. Refractive and topographic changes were also recorded
Results: The study included 40 eyes of 21 patients. All patients completed at least 6 months
postoperative follow up. There were 13 females and 8 males. Age ranged from 18 to 32 years with a
mean 25.9  5years.There was a statistically significant improvement in average keratometry readings
(P 0.001*). The preoperative mean average keratometry was 48.4633.1 D( 43.74 54)
.and changed to 47.322.9 D (42.15 53) at 6 months of follow up
Conclusion: Accelerated corneal collagen cross linking can be considered as a safe procedure for
.the treatment of keratoconus
Keratoconus is a corneal ectasia characterised by progressive thinning and protrusion of the central
and paracentral cornea 1 5 that gives rise to irregular myopic astigmatism and a decrease in visual
acuity. It is generally a bilateral process, however it presents and develops asymmetrically.6,7
Changes in the corneal collagen structure, and extracellular matrix, apoptosis and necrosis of

How Political Parties Harm Democracy

How Political Parties Harm Democracy
Political parties exist in a democracy as a way for likeminded individuals to be united over a set of
shared beliefs. (Daniel) Political parties allow the members of the party to elect politicians to
government positions in order to advance their beliefs. (Hargrave) The political parties offer their
members strength in numbers, by uniting large numbers of individuals into a collective group; they
can select the best candidates to pursue their interests, as opposed to having thousands of individuals
running for office based on a very narrow spectrum of beliefs. (Daniel) While political parties help
organize the election process and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The ways in which people vote have led to a situation where there are two political parties that
dominate the elections. This leads to an inability of the voters to choose the candidates of their likings.
The existence of political parties has led to a situation in the United States that is inconsistent with the
intentions of a representational style of government that the country was formed on. The existence of
these political parties has taken much of the power and ability to control the government away from
the citizens. (Hargrave) The United States government is set up in a way that allows the people to
elect individuals that they see best fit for serving their needs and desires. This is evident in the House
of Representatives. In the House of Representatives, each representative is elected by the people of his
district. The citizens of each district vote on the candidate that will best serve their needs once in
Washington D.C. (Davidson) Although the representatives are elected based on their promises to their
constituencies, they face a great challenge once in office, and that is the political party to which they
belong. While serving in the House of Representatives, the individual congressmen that are elected by
the citizens of their districts are expected to comply with the beliefs of the political party that they
belong to. By having to vote on issues based on the

The Preservation Of Memories And Grieving Process
In Anne Carson s Nox, the preservation of memories and grieving process are shown by formatting
and themes of imagery, encapsulation, isolation, and completion. Upon first impression, Nox s pages
look photocopied, but real enough that the pages feel three dimensional, as though there s a residue
from the author lingering on the pages. Her brother s death prompts Carson to act as his historian and
detail his life through different media. Carson compiles images from different sources, including
herself, and then brings them together to form an epitaph in the form of a collage. Collaging becomes
a collection of preserved emotions from the author. Collaging helps express emotions of the self that
simple words cannot express. Nox s format being a collage pulls the audience into memories of
childhood. Young children making collages in art class and excitedly running home to show their
families. Except, Carson cannot show her brother or mother the collage. Reading Nox feels very
voyeuristic as a result. The audience watches Carson s grieving process literally unfold. Carson
becomes her brother s historian, collaging his life whether positive or negative. Carson and her brother
were closer as children but not at all as adults, and many photos focus on their childhood. The photos
are interspersed after definitions (Carson 5.4). Nox becomes a vessel for the preservation of Carson s
memories of her brother, whether they be positive or negative. Light imagery, in contrast to

Strengths In Mark Bowden s Black Hawk Down
Violence, death, profanity. Usually a book containing these subjects, along with many other disturbing
aspects, would not be recommended for teenagers to read. However, looking past all of those details,
Black Hawk Down actually has valuable lessons within it. The author, Mark Bowden, writes about the
Battle Of Mogadishu that occurred from December 1992 to October 1993, and includes useful
information within his novel. He focuses on the truth about war, weaknesses and strengths within it,
and also lessons that can be learned from these subjects. The subject of war is often romanticized.
Video games, movies, and even some other books as well cut out a lot of truth about war, because
people tend to be afraid of telling the truth. Even the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are quite a few positive characteristics within the troops as well that make up for the mistakes
they may have made. One main one is that they always have each others backs. The Deltas look after
the Rangers, and act as their role models. It was as if the Rangers saw the D Boys as their big brothers,
and since their big brothers were around, everything would be okay (Bowden 234). This shows the
bond between the troops, and adds emotion to the novel. Another characteristic is that the older
soldiers try to be positive throughout the war, even if situations got tough. Smith was now asking the
medic to tell his parents and family good bye . . . Hold on tight, Schmid told the dying corporal. We re
working on getting you out of here (Bowden 238). There are also some points within the novel that
show soldiers making jokes about their situation, instead of letting it bring them down and get the best
of them. The final trait is that even throughout all of the horrors the two teams went through during
the war, they still did their best and pushed through until it was finally over. There s no doubt that the
perception people have of this episode is that it was a total fiasco. Bowden says. But this was a
successfully completed mission. And in the eyes of the military men involved, it s a mission they re
very proud of (EDIT). So even though these teams saw, heard, and participated in horrifying events, in

Social Control Theory And Social Learning Theory
There is always that moment in life where you make the choice to be good or bad, but we really don t
know why we make those choices. There is a point in life when you choose to be deviant. Social
control theory and social learning theory suggest what makes us do the deviant behavior and what
makes it different from one person to another. They both have to do with the world around us, but
have different views on how you portray yourself from that. Social control is how you interact with
society, and it suggest that if you are close to society you will have good behavior, but if your ties are
not strong you lash out getting involved in criminal or unwanted behavior. This can be due to someone
living in a bad environment and catching on to things that aren t good. Hirschi s social bonding theory
talks about some ways this affects our lives, and his four elements explain why. Social learning on the
other hand has to do with your friends, family, and people you are around from this you learn how to
behave yourself. From what you see is how you interpret life. If you were to see someone do
something and get a reward from it you would learn ohh I need to do that as well. The same goes for
when someone gets in trouble and gets punished you don t want that so you don t do it. Another factor
to determine how you act another big one would be how you get treated by your family and how they
react to what you do good or bad. With the social learning being how you raised your child

Tiananmen Square Massacre Research Paper
In 1989, Chinese students protested because of the death of the Chinese Communist leader and
because no actions for reform were being made. During these protests, many students were being
arrested for speaking against the government and some students were even being killed for their
actions. This event became known as the Tiananmen Square Massacre because of the tremendous
amount of students killed there. The number of casualties varied between 150 10,000 people. This
event has significance because this demonstration had a tremendous amount of casualties. After the
massacre the U.S. got involved by imposing diplomatic and economic sanctions against China.
November 9, 1989: The Berlin Wall is dismantled. The Berlin Wall was originally a source of division
in Europe for the Cold War. The East Berlin region announced that citizens would be able to cross the
border into Western Europe. The dismantling of the wall had major significance because it reinstalled
the peace between West and East Europe that wasn t there for over 40 years. Ronald Reagan even
encouraged the Soviet Union leader, Gorbachev, to bring down the wall in 1987 and many Americans
believed that his speech impacted the tearing down of wall. The dismantling signified the
reinstallation of human rights for those that were stuck in the border for years.

Star Trek Enterprise As A Guide
If I were given the chance to use a time machine the number of places I would want to visit are
countless. Would I go to 2490 BC to see the Pyramids of Giza being constructed? Would I visit 1590
to track down the mysteries of the ruins of Roanoke? While going to these places would be fascinating
they wouldn t solve my quest for knowledge on an extraterrestrial level. Though I was tempted to visit
1947 Roswell, New Mexico I would have been severely disappointed if it actually turned out to just be
a weather balloon instead of a UFO. This is why I have decided to travel into the future to when we
embark on space travel 2151 because after all Space is the final frontier.
Now with anything in the future imagining what life holds ahead of us is guessing however I will use
Star Trek Enterprise as a guide. The reason I will assume Star Trek Enterprise is like the future is due
to the fact that it is the brink of space travel reaching out to the furthest reaches of the galaxy. With
this in mind the technology while great is not a whole lot more advanced to what is being built today.
In 2151 the launch of space travel opening a new age of exploration for Earth and mankind.
With the verge of space travel the majority of time will be spent on the ship itself without contact
coming for a while. I would expect tight quarters as there would be many crewmembers on board so it
is nice I am not claustrophobic. While in space it might be exceedingly dangerous with navigating

Corporate Espionage
The growing corporate espionage activities due to intense competition lead to highly controlling
security measures and intensive employee monitoring which bring about distrust in the workplace
Part I .What I already know The reason I chose this topic is due to the fact that a class called human
resources management which by the way is my major, once we discussed the topic of ethics the
professor covered corporate espionage and determined it as a federal crime. Professor Valdivieso felt
very passionately about this topic because his thesis was based on this area. He is a professional who I

She also compares case studies which basically portray the fact that empowering your employees and
having a clear framework of values in the company, makes them feel important and needed and can
contribute as a countermeasure to control corporate espionage.
Some action that can be taken according to the book depends on the threat you re facing and believe it
or not the difference between regular spies and corporate spies is very small so the same so the means
to control it are alike.
There are four countermeasures that are commonly used by industrial spies: technical, operational,
physical and personnel security, these will later on be discussed in depth due to the harm that can be
caused to a company by a lack of security not only financially speaking but also the workplace
environment distrust that can only be corrected by reorganizing employees. This will represent time
and money wasted.
Clearly Dr. Marjorie Chang believe corporate espionage is everywhere today and should be
considered as a potential threat especially in big corporation when the competition rises daily and
technological access is just a click away. The question is how do we draw the line between excessive
monitoring and preventative actions to diminish distrust? In my next source one of my concerns form

Water Is More Powerful Than Pickle Drinks Essay
Are you familiar with the fact that pickle juice is as healthy or more powerful than the pickles
themselves?
Typically, there are vinegar, salt, garlic, onion, and sugar in pickle juice, but it can also include
turmeric, cloves, dill, and celery seed.
Ease heartburn
Heartburn can happen after overindulging or eating something spicy or acidic. The vinegar in pickle
juice helps treat the heartburn, and it might encourage your stomach to produce more natural antacids.
This helps balance the acidity in your system.
Soothes sunburn
While we all know that aloe cools the burn and promotes healthy skin growth, pickle juice can help
soothe the stinging or itching. The salt and vinegar contents in the juice can have an instant effect for
relieving the stinging sensation. A jar of pickles at the beach isn t so strange now, is it!

In addition, the juice of pickles can have the same benefits. So, consider warming some diluted pickle

Cleans copper pans
By using some pickle juice and elbow grease you can get rid of the char and dull color the copper pans
get from use. Specifically, vinegar contains acetic acid that can cut through the grime, where as the
acid and salt react with the green oxidization, so that they can be brought back to their original shine.
Adds flavor
You can add some flavor to stray vegetables, such as dried out carrots, red onions or broccoli.
Moreover, by leaving them overnight in the jar, the veggies will have a zesty taste added.
Fertilizes plants
Plants like hydrangeas and rhododendrons prefer acidic soil to help them grow. While hydrangeas are
typically blue, they change color depending on the pH level of the soil. Using pickle juice will give

Sign up sportsbook bonuses are by far the most common form of sportsbook bonus. Pretty much every
online bookmaker offers them year round, and given the current membership levels of many, they
seem to work to entice new players. When a new punter signs up for an online sportsbook operator
they will hand out a bonus that relates to a percentage of their first deposit. The percentage offered
usually falls between 50% and 200% and is of use most when it is fully maximised. This is because
seldom offer bonus provide players with the chance to claim as much.
Reload Bonuses
Reloaded bonuses can be seen as the type of bonus that allows winners to bounce back and losers to
keep losing. Working in a similar fashion to the previously mentioned sign up sportsbook bonus, they
reward players who continuously deposit after registration. For example, should your bankroll be fast
approaching zero, making another deposit could provide you with a reload bonus that will help further
your game time. The catch with reload bonuses is that your bankroll often needs to be below a certain
threshold for them to come into effect.

Gay Adoption Argumentative Essay
Many children around the world need families. These children aren t looking for specific parents they
are looking for someone to love them and care for them and a place they can call home. Why would
wanting to be a parent with someone the same sex is a bad thing? How can anyone be so sure they
wouldn t be able to care for their child or child as well as a heterosexual couple? Although having
homosexual parents is something not everyone agrees with and can start controversy, it does not make
homosexual parents bad parents it is not their fault not everyone agrees with them raising kids. Gay

Social Dilemmas In A Divergent
Living in the society, Tris ought to be obeying the law as she is part of it. But, when she finds out
herself is a Divergent, she can sense that something is running off. There is a social norm that that the
divergent is outskirt. And even the test administrator warns her never tell anyone her result shows as
Divergent because this will create chaos. As mentioned, the society under Abnegation government is
not just and fair, it even does not reach the view of Mockus by recognizing of legal, moral and social
norms that may regulate citizens behaviour . Each faction is required to focus on the responsibility and
they have different values, they do not agree to each other core virtues; therefore, one faction is not
willing to communicate with the other faction. Although during the period of ruling, there is no war
but it certainly builds up the disapproval from the Erudite faction to the moral norm and social norm
which they think they should be the one ruling the society with the intelligence more than being a
selfless. Also, the Erudite finds out that the Abnegation leader is actually not upholding the norms of
selfless as he abused his own son which leading his child to turn away from the family. Consequently,
the Erudite tries to create new social norms; however, they did not succeed. They should see the life as
sacred and they should be following the Mayor Mockus footstep by acting to the new rules personally,
instead of hiding behind and deceive people to do their work. Another reason that the Erudite plan is
not successful because their inner demon creates too much violence and opposing voices.

Introduction: Islam is one of the Universal religions of the world. As a religion, Islam is governed by
an assortment of divine laws known as shariah of which its sources are mainly attributed to the divine
revelations in the Holy Qur an and traditions of the Prophet (P.B.U.H). This package is what forms the
basis of the spiritual, economic, political and social guidance of Muslims. Thus, all the laws of Islam

In effect, Native Courts were established in 1929 by the Native Courts Ordinance, Cap 73.These
Native Courts were subordinate to the High Court. The Native Courts were presided over by Liwali,
Kadhi, Akida, Chief, and Headman and were to exercise civil or criminal jurisdiction within an area
prescribed by the Governor. However, the life of these courts came to an end in 1951 when the Local
Courts Ordinance, Cap 299 came into being. The Local courts were confined to Africans and
administered customary criminal and civil law and a limited number of statutory laws. Another
development was witnessed in 1958 when urban courts were established by the Liwalis (Functions
and Powers) Ordinance, Cap.408.Liwali courts were presided over by magistrates employed by the
Government under the title of liwalis who also exercised executive functions within their own urban
area. Although the British colonial state gave recognition to the indigenous judicial institutions under
native law and custom, it however, permitted customary criminal law to be applied by the Native
subordinate courts but not the Islamic criminal law. The turning point for the administration of justice

Pillars Of The CIA Triad
THE CONCEPT OF THE (C I A)
The CIA triad of confidentiality, integrity, and availability is at the heart of information security
(Perrin, 2012). The pillars of the CIA Triad provide a significant foundation of security in an
information system. The decisions and implementations of each of these pillars will impact the overall
security posture. Pillars are incremental so an increase or decrease in implementation of a given pillar
will have a cumulative effect.
Confidentiality is the term used to prevent the disclosure of information to unauthorized individuals or
systems. Information has value, especially in today s world and it has to be kept safely to avoid
unnecessary breach of information, an important way of keeping or protecting information

Financial Ratio Analysis in a Company
According to Olowe (1997), Financial Ratio Analysis is the relationship between the performance of a
company and the monetary data in the financial statements to assist the economic conditions.
Financial ratio was defined by Robert (1994) as two financial variables being used that have been
taken from either the income statement or from the balance sheet.
Ratio analysis is a tool that is brought in by individuals to perform an evaluative analysis of
information in the company s financial statements. It is an important tool of financial analysis and it
focuses on the figures given in the income statement, fund statements and balance sheet. The figures
are taken from the current year which is used for calculating the ratios and it is then compared to the
previous years, other firms, their industry, and also the firm to evaluate the company s performance.
Moreover, ratio analysis is primarily used by proponents of the financial analysis. In fact, ratio
analysis is commonly used in business. The role of ratio analysis is its significance as a means for a
company to perform an internal evaluation of its performance over a stated period. The role of ratio
analysis is to perform and evaluate within the company based on its performance over a period of
time. An important feature of ratio analysis is that it gives a quick image of the financial state of the
business to potential investors.
The advantages of ratio analysis are as follows: Financial Statement Analysis Ratio

Essay Letter to John Adams from Abigail Adams
Letter to John Adams from Abigail Adams and Letter from John Adams to Abigail Adams
1. Abigail Adams establishes ethos in the opening paragraph by asking questions about the issue at
hand. By mentioning the Defense Virginia she shows that she is knowledgeable about the issue at
hand, even though she does not yet have a definite stance on it. The questions show her urgent tone
and care for her husband. The questions show that she is concerned about him and his well being.
2. Abigail tries to convey the general impact of the Revolution in Boston. She chose the details she did
to try show John Adams what has changed in Boston as a result of the Revolution. She shares that the
city is in a better condition that what she was expecting ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He knew it was against universal liberty; but he felt it was not right to give women such power.
7. The tone of Abigail s letter to John is more sincere than his letter to her. In her letter you can tell
that even though she does not agree with some of his stands on issues she still loves and supports him.
The tone of John s letter is dry, with not much emotion. He doesn t show much concern for her or her
ideals. The only evidence of intimacy found is when they discuss their children. In Abigail s letter
intimacy is also found when the reader finds that she misses him and worries about him and when she
says she is willing to do anything he needs.
8. If she knew he letter was to be published she probably would have probably not been as nagging on
her husband to write more than he does. She would have probably thought that other reads may have
felt she came off as clingy and sense desperation so she would have written more calmly and
collectively.
9. In a world filled with social media the line between public and private hardly exists. People these
days publish anything and everything on line, regardless of how private it should be. Of course, there
are people who don t feel the need to advertise their every thought, but most do. Society is so

Rhetorical Analysis Of King Agamemnon
In the midst of the Trojan war, King Agamemnon is distraught after his loss of Chryseis. As a form of
compensation, Agamemnon demands that Achilles forfeit his war prize: Briseis, princess of Lyrnessus.
Unhappy with this course of action, Achilles withdraws from the war. Generals, trusted advisors,
soldiers, and healers under King Agamemnon s rule deliver deliberate speeches and debate as to if and
why Agamemnon should keep or return Briseis to Achilles for his return. Speaker 1, who spoke in
favor of Agamemnon keeping Briseis, incorporates all three rhetorical appeals and adopts a
commanding tone of voice in order to persuade the soldiers to continue battling despite the loss of
Achilles. In contrast, Speaker 14, who was opposed to Agamemnon keeping Briseis, explores pathos
and demonstrates the effectiveness of repetition while directly addressing Agamemnon.
To begin with, in pursuance of persuading her audience of soldiers to allow King Agamemnon to keep
his stolen war prize Briseis, Speaker 1 capitalizes on the three rhetorical appeals: logos, pathos, and
ethos. The most effective appeal for her, given her audience, was ethos. First, she had to establish
herself as a credible source for the sake of convincing the soldiers why her reasoning was valid. Who
better to speak about the King then his trusted advisor, who not only worked with him throughout his
ruling, but who also worked with his father before him and watched him grow up to be the man he is
today. With the audience of soldiers in mind, they are more likely to listen to the reasoning of a person
in power, who has proven themselves to be knowledgeable and can testify on behalf of a person, both
personally and professionally. Soldiers are trained to follow the commands of someone in charge and
if the trusted advisor says that they are capable of allowing the King to keep Briseis and in turn
continue to fight the war and win without Achilles, then it can be done. Using ethos gives the speaker
a platform to be heard from. Similarly, the speaker s commanding tone of voice helped to deliver an
effective speech. It would have been futile to have established herself as this person with great power
had her deliverance not matched the substance of the

Alcohol Addiction Is A Never Ending Problem Essay
In the state of Wisconsin where I currently reside, alcohol addiction is a never ending problem.
Alcohol is often associated with football games, baseball and even social gatherings. Unfortunately,
alcohol can also be a coping mechanism for those who are dealing with a loss of a family member,
financial crisis or even homelessness. The cost of alcohol addiction and treatment in the State of
Wisconsin is approximately $6.8 billion and rising due to the continued abuse of alcohol (Wisconsin
Department of Health Services, 2014, p. 14). With the high usage of alcohol abuse, one must turn to
programs within their local community for support and treatment.
In the community in which I live one would have to say that it is rural. There is only one AA support
group that is held in my town once a week at the local church that I attend. To get more counseling or
treatment support one must travel 20 minutes. In the town of Stevens Point, WI, there is NA, AA,
inpatient rehab facilities as well as outpatient, and numerous facilities that offer ongoing counseling.
The residential facility in Stevens Point, is ran through the hospital and offers group therapy, family
therapy, individual counseling, and introductions to twelve step philosophy ( Residential treatment
center, 2016, para. 4). The treatment center believes in the group concept so one can build friendships
and interact with others. The facility has 15 beds, while two share a room, large kitchen and dining

According to the book, Piggy is a young British boy physically vulnerable to all the boys because of
his asthma, being overweight and having to wear glasses. Piggy wiped his glasses and adjusted them

Naked Egg Lab Experiment
Naked Egg Lab
Frances Jose
Redmond High School Biology, Period 3
Mrs. Sinclair
7 November 2014
Introduction
The objective of the Naked Egg Lab is to soak the egg in a solution and determine if that solution is
isotonic, hypertonic, or hypotonic in relation to the egg. A solution is a mixture of two or more
substances in which the molecules of the substances are evenly distributed (Miller/Levine 2000). The
substances in a solution are solutes, the substance that is dissolved (Miller/Levine 2000), and solvents,
the substance in which the solute dissolves (Miller/Levine 2000). In this case, the egg will be put in a
salt water solution, where salt is the solute and water is the solvent. This lab is looking for three
different types of solutions; isotonic, hypertonic, and hypotonic. An isotonic solution is when the
concentration of two solutions is the same (Miller/Levine 2000). When a solution has a higher
concentration of solutes than the solution on the other side of the membrane, it is hypertonic.
Hypotonic solutions are the opposite, and have a lesser concentration of solutes than the solution on
the other side of the membrane.
Diffusion is the process by which molecules tend to move from an area where they are more
concentrated to an area ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After the shell is finally gone, the egg will be placed in the salt water solution. Since only water can
move in and out of the egg, the semipermeable membrane allows for an exploration for the concepts
of diffusion and osmosis (Ryczkowski 2014). If the solution is hypotonic, the egg s mass (quantitative
data) will increase because the water will pass from an area with high concentration (water), to an area
with low concentration (egg). It is predicted that the egg will gain mass and look larger (qualitative
data) because of

The Theme Of Symbolism In A Hanging By George Orwell
Literature is a complex form of expression, that can be used by writers as a tool to convey simplistic
entertaiment; create mythical and fantastical worlds that escape the limitations of mankind or as an art
form that enables a very cable few to challenge an entire school of thought and traditions, one of these
peculiar few was a man known as George Orwell. Orwell was the pseudonym of Eric A. Blair, a man
who opposed the oppressive values of totalitarian esque political systems and cherished the idealistic
political notions of equality, which can be seen across his diverse repertoire of work. This is especially
highlighted in his anecdotal short essay A Hanging , where Orwell retails a story of his time in the
British police corps which serves ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In his anecdotal short essay, Orwell uses characters as lenses to explore the core themes of rebellion
and depravity found in his writing. To clarify, Orwell shows the effects of the british colonial system
through the actions of the characters and the language used for their descriptions. For example,
characters of indigenous origin to the colonies are defined on the basis of their religion or race. This
illustrates the stereotypical fashion in which colonists defined natives. Similarly, Orwell use negative
imagery and pathetic fallacy to dehumanise and belittle the prisoners in the story. As illustrated by
quotes such as like animal cages and squatted in long rows , which compare the prisoners to animals
,thus garnering a sympathetic response from the audience and illustrates the severity of the condemned
men s plight. Moreover, the dehumanization of the prisoners may reflect the way in which the narrator
and other characters in position of power distance themselves from the acts they are committing. To
illustrate, when preparing the prisoner for the execution he is treated as an object, a chore that must be
completed in order for the characters to progress as opposed to an individual facing a grim end. Yet,
during the execution the prisoner is described as higher being, he s acceptance of death is a force that
terrorises the other characters, thus belittling them and showing the negative effect that the event has
on their psyche. In contrast, Orwell uses speech patterns and burmese terms to illustrate the effect
colonisation has on the culture of its colonised states. For examples, native characters of higher
authority emulate their British counterparts in their names and

Needs Hierarchy Theory of Motivation
a. One of the most widely mentioned theories of motivation is the hierarchy of needs theory put forth
by psychologist Abraham Maslow. He was known for establishing the theory of a hierarchy, writing
that the needs of human beings can act as motivators when those very needs remain unsatisfied. In
order to address a need of a higher level, the immediate lower level of need must be satisfied initially.
Maslow s studied extensively exemplary people like Einstein, Roosevelt rather than mentally ill or
neurotic people. This was in itself a radical deviation from the popular schools of psychology of his
day, Freud and Skinner who saw little difference between animalistic and humane motivations.
Maslow s hierarchy of needs was an alternative ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The negative version of these needs is low self esteem and inferiority complexes. Maslow felt that
Adler was really onto something when he proposed that these were at the roots of many, if not most,
of our psychological problems. All of the preceding four levels he calls deficit needs, or D needs. If
you don t have enough of something i.e. you have a deficit you feel the need. But if you get all you
need, you feel nothing at all! In other words, they cease to be motivating. 5. Self Actualisation The
highest need in Maslow s hierarchy is the need to truly become what one is capable of becoming, to
maximize one s potential and to accomplish material manifestations of the promise of an individual.
People who have everything can maximize their potential. They can seek knowledge, peace, esthetic
experiences, self fulfillment, one ness with God, etc. In evaluating this need the individuals were
characteristic of a certain criterion. A few were that These people were reality centered, which means
they could differentiate what is fake and dishonest from what is real and genuine. They were problem
centered, meaning they treated life s difficulties as problems demanding solutions, not as personal
troubles to be railed at or surrendered to. And they had a different perception of means and ends. They
felt that the ends don t necessarily justify the means, that the means could be ends themselves, and

Charles Dickens The Signalman and A Birthday by Karen Mansfield
A signalman is a short story written by Charles Dickens. This is a story about a signalman who is
driven mad by the environment of his work, away from sunlight and people. But he was not alone; a
supernatural ghost decides to accompany him too. He has a lot of responsibilities to shoulder.
There are only two characters that really are prominent in the short story. In fact in the story, there are
only about three to five characters. The important characters are the signalman and the narrator.
Charles Dickens uses dialogue to make the characters more appealing and easier to understand. He has

I observed him to be remarkably exact and vigilant, breaking off his discourse at a syllable, and
remaining silent until what he had to do was done. The signalman seemed to love his work even if he
did not love his work he was always very devoted to his work.
I believe that one s work environment or even home environment defines a person and that is what
builds one s character. The signalman had nothing in his life except his job; he had nothing to return to
his home for, no wife or children. His work environment was unpleasant and seems unhealthy and the
narrator saw this as stepping into the
unknown, ...As if I left the natural world/... entrance to a black tunnel, in whose the massive
architecture there was a barbarous depressing, and forbidding air... it had an earthly deadly smell/ His
post was in as solitary and dismal place as ever I saw. A limitation was placed on the signalman
through his work. He could not go out and enjoy the sun and light for a few minutes and the signalman
did not even try to go and enjoy, he was too devoted to his work. The signalman had to live

because the perpetrator of the crime is not a man but a girl. When Creon asks Antigone if she bury her

  • 2. Airline Alliances Airline Alliances an Analysis Introduction: Liberalisation of the Airline Market now allows carriers to engage in alliances to form more powerful synergy s and capture a larger share of the market. Since the introduction of The Airline Deregulation Act in 1978 in North America and similar acts worldwide the aviation industry has become one of the fastest growing industries. The main objective of this was to allow the market place to influence the development of airlines. The main development from this was that airlines find it more beneficial if they join alliances. In this report I will discuss why airlines engage in alliances, identify the strategic benefits of alliances and assess their effectiveness. Why airlines engage in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... By pooling resources alliances can reduce unit costs and achieve greater cost efficiencies through more efficient utilisation of resources such as sharing landing slots, maintenance teams, IT systems and labour. Airlines also have the opportunity of engaging in joint purchasing agreements and make considerable savings. When we look at the Star Alliance which was founded in 1997 we see that they have made considerable savings from joint purchasing agreements. Earlier this year The Star Alliance leveraged its purchasing power with the procurement of new economy class seats. As well as reducing the cost of seat ownership the airline will also benefit of reduced future fuel costs due to the seats being made of lighter materials. The demand side benefits of Strategic Alliances include accessing new markets through availing of new landing slots. Landing slots are a big plus from strategic alliances. Currently Virgin Airways are looking for landing slots at London s main airports to fly to destinations in Asia including Bangalore. Through the potential prospect of joining the Alliance Sir Richard Branson hopes to secure these slots. Alliances enable airlines to offer a more seamless network of flights to customers due to their collaborative efforts. Alliances also have the option to use code sharing which enables consumers to book space on the same flights through multiple airlines websites. Effectiveness of alliances: The ... • 4. How Political Parties Harm Democracy Roy Young Professor Goodman PSCI 4300 U.S. Congress 11 March 2013 How Political Parties Harm Democracy Political parties exist in a democracy as a way for likeminded individuals to be united over a set of shared beliefs. (Daniel) Political parties allow the members of the party to elect politicians to government positions in order to advance their beliefs. (Hargrave) The political parties offer their members strength in numbers, by uniting large numbers of individuals into a collective group; they can select the best candidates to pursue their interests, as opposed to having thousands of individuals running for office based on a very narrow spectrum of beliefs. (Daniel) While political parties help organize the election process and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The ways in which people vote have led to a situation where there are two political parties that dominate the elections. This leads to an inability of the voters to choose the candidates of their likings. The existence of political parties has led to a situation in the United States that is inconsistent with the intentions of a representational style of government that the country was formed on. The existence of these political parties has taken much of the power and ability to control the government away from the citizens. (Hargrave) The United States government is set up in a way that allows the people to elect individuals that they see best fit for serving their needs and desires. This is evident in the House of Representatives. In the House of Representatives, each representative is elected by the people of his district. The citizens of each district vote on the candidate that will best serve their needs once in Washington D.C. (Davidson) Although the representatives are elected based on their promises to their constituencies, they face a great challenge once in office, and that is the political party to which they belong. While serving in the House of Representatives, the individual congressmen that are elected by the citizens of their districts are expected to comply with the beliefs of the political party that they belong to. • 5. The Preservation Of Memories And Grieving Process In Anne Carson s Nox, the preservation of memories and grieving process are shown by formatting and themes of imagery, encapsulation, isolation, and completion. Upon first impression, Nox s pages look photocopied, but real enough that the pages feel three dimensional, as though there s a residue from the author lingering on the pages. Her brother s death prompts Carson to act as his historian and detail his life through different media. Carson compiles images from different sources, including herself, and then brings them together to form an epitaph in the form of a collage. Collaging becomes a collection of preserved emotions from the author. Collaging helps express emotions of the self that simple words cannot express. Nox s format being a collage pulls the audience into memories of childhood. Young children making collages in art class and excitedly running home to show their families. Except, Carson cannot show her brother or mother the collage. Reading Nox feels very voyeuristic as a result. The audience watches Carson s grieving process literally unfold. Carson becomes her brother s historian, collaging his life whether positive or negative. Carson and her brother were closer as children but not at all as adults, and many photos focus on their childhood. The photos are interspersed after definitions (Carson 5.4). Nox becomes a vessel for the preservation of Carson s memories of her brother, whether they be positive or negative. Light imagery, in contrast to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Strengths In Mark Bowden s Black Hawk Down Violence, death, profanity. Usually a book containing these subjects, along with many other disturbing aspects, would not be recommended for teenagers to read. However, looking past all of those details, Black Hawk Down actually has valuable lessons within it. The author, Mark Bowden, writes about the Battle Of Mogadishu that occurred from December 1992 to October 1993, and includes useful information within his novel. He focuses on the truth about war, weaknesses and strengths within it, and also lessons that can be learned from these subjects. The subject of war is often romanticized. Video games, movies, and even some other books as well cut out a lot of truth about war, because people tend to be afraid of telling the truth. Even the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are quite a few positive characteristics within the troops as well that make up for the mistakes they may have made. One main one is that they always have each others backs. The Deltas look after the Rangers, and act as their role models. It was as if the Rangers saw the D Boys as their big brothers, and since their big brothers were around, everything would be okay (Bowden 234). This shows the bond between the troops, and adds emotion to the novel. Another characteristic is that the older soldiers try to be positive throughout the war, even if situations got tough. Smith was now asking the medic to tell his parents and family good bye . . . Hold on tight, Schmid told the dying corporal. We re working on getting you out of here (Bowden 238). There are also some points within the novel that show soldiers making jokes about their situation, instead of letting it bring them down and get the best of them. The final trait is that even throughout all of the horrors the two teams went through during the war, they still did their best and pushed through until it was finally over. There s no doubt that the perception people have of this episode is that it was a total fiasco. Bowden says. But this was a successfully completed mission. And in the eyes of the military men involved, it s a mission they re very proud of (EDIT). So even though these teams saw, heard, and participated in horrifying events, in ... • 7. Social Control Theory And Social Learning Theory There is always that moment in life where you make the choice to be good or bad, but we really don t know why we make those choices. There is a point in life when you choose to be deviant. Social control theory and social learning theory suggest what makes us do the deviant behavior and what makes it different from one person to another. They both have to do with the world around us, but have different views on how you portray yourself from that. Social control is how you interact with society, and it suggest that if you are close to society you will have good behavior, but if your ties are not strong you lash out getting involved in criminal or unwanted behavior. This can be due to someone living in a bad environment and catching on to things that aren t good. Hirschi s social bonding theory talks about some ways this affects our lives, and his four elements explain why. Social learning on the other hand has to do with your friends, family, and people you are around from this you learn how to behave yourself. From what you see is how you interpret life. If you were to see someone do something and get a reward from it you would learn ohh I need to do that as well. The same goes for when someone gets in trouble and gets punished you don t want that so you don t do it. Another factor to determine how you act another big one would be how you get treated by your family and how they react to what you do good or bad. With the social learning being how you raised your child ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

During these protests, many students were being arrested for speaking against the government and some students were even being killed for their actions. This event became known as the Tiananmen Square Massacre because of the tremendous amount of students killed there. The number of casualties varied between 150 10,000 people. This event has significance because this demonstration had a tremendous amount of casualties. After the massacre the U.S. got involved by imposing diplomatic and economic sanctions against China. November 9, 1989: The Berlin Wall is dismantled. The Berlin Wall was originally a source of division in Europe for the Cold War. The East Berlin region announced that citizens would be able to cross the border into Western Europe. The dismantling of the wall had major significance because it reinstalled the peace between West and East Europe that wasn t there for over 40 years. Ronald Reagan even encouraged the Soviet Union leader, Gorbachev, to bring down the wall in 1987 and many Americans believed that his speech impacted the tearing down of wall. The dismantling signified the reinstallation of human rights for those that were stuck in the border for years. 1991 August 2,1990 February 28, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 9. Star Trek Enterprise As A Guide If I were given the chance to use a time machine the number of places I would want to visit are countless. Would I go to 2490 BC to see the Pyramids of Giza being constructed? Would I visit 1590 to track down the mysteries of the ruins of Roanoke? While going to these places would be fascinating they wouldn t solve my quest for knowledge on an extraterrestrial level. Though I was tempted to visit 1947 Roswell, New Mexico I would have been severely disappointed if it actually turned out to just be a weather balloon instead of a UFO. This is why I have decided to travel into the future to when we embark on space travel 2151 because after all Space is the final frontier. Now with anything in the future imagining what life holds ahead of us is guessing however I will use Star Trek Enterprise as a guide. The reason I will assume Star Trek Enterprise is like the future is due to the fact that it is the brink of space travel reaching out to the furthest reaches of the galaxy. With this in mind the technology while great is not a whole lot more advanced to what is being built today. In 2151 the launch of space travel opening a new age of exploration for Earth and mankind. With the verge of space travel the majority of time will be spent on the ship itself without contact coming for a while. I would expect tight quarters as there would be many crewmembers on board so it is nice I am not claustrophobic. While in space it might be exceedingly dangerous with navigating arounds cosmic ... Corporate Espionage The growing corporate espionage activities due to intense competition lead to highly controlling security measures and intensive employee monitoring which bring about distrust in the workplace Part I .What I already know The reason I chose this topic is due to the fact that a class called human resources management which by the way is my major, once we discussed the topic of ethics the professor covered corporate espionage and determined it as a federal crime. Professor Valdivieso felt very passionately about this topic because his thesis was based on this area. • 23. Rhetorical Analysis Of King Agamemnon In the midst of the Trojan war, King Agamemnon is distraught after his loss of Chryseis. As a form of compensation, Agamemnon demands that Achilles forfeit his war prize: Briseis, princess of Lyrnessus. Unhappy with this course of action, Achilles withdraws from the war. Generals, trusted advisors, soldiers, and healers under King Agamemnon s rule deliver deliberate speeches and debate as to if and why Agamemnon should keep or return Briseis to Achilles for his return. Speaker 1, who spoke in favor of Agamemnon keeping Briseis, incorporates all three rhetorical appeals and adopts a commanding tone of voice in order to persuade the soldiers to continue battling despite the loss of Achilles. In contrast, Speaker 14, who was opposed to Agamemnon keeping Briseis, explores pathos and demonstrates the effectiveness of repetition while directly addressing Agamemnon. To begin with, in pursuance of persuading her audience of soldiers to allow King Agamemnon to keep his stolen war prize Briseis, Speaker 1 capitalizes on the three rhetorical appeals: logos, pathos, and ethos. The most effective appeal for her, given her audience, was ethos. First, she had to establish herself as a credible source for the sake of convincing the soldiers why her reasoning was valid. Who better to speak about the King then his trusted advisor, who not only worked with him throughout his ruling, but who also worked with his father before him and watched him grow up to be the man he is today. With the audience of soldiers in mind, they are more likely to listen to the reasoning of a person in power, who has proven themselves to be knowledgeable and can testify on behalf of a person, both personally and professionally. Soldiers are trained to follow the commands of someone in charge and if the trusted advisor says that they are capable of allowing the King to keep Briseis and in turn continue to fight the war and win without Achilles, then it can be done. Using ethos gives the speaker a platform to be heard from. Similarly, the speaker s commanding tone of voice helped to deliver an effective speech. Naked Egg Lab Experiment Naked Egg Lab Frances Jose Redmond High School Biology, Period 3 Mrs. Sinclair 7 November 2014 Introduction The objective of the Naked Egg Lab is to soak the egg in a solution and determine if that solution is isotonic, hypertonic, or hypotonic in relation to the egg. A solution is a mixture of two or more substances in which the molecules of the substances are evenly distributed (Miller/Levine 2000). The substances in a solution are solutes, the substance that is dissolved (Miller/Levine 2000), and solvents, the substance in which the solute dissolves (Miller/Levine 2000). In this case, the egg will be put in a salt water solution, where salt is the solute and water is the solvent. This lab is looking for three different types of solutions; isotonic, hypertonic, and hypotonic. An isotonic solution is when the concentration of two solutions is the same (Miller/Levine 2000). When a solution has a higher concentration of solutes than the solution on the other side of the membrane, it is hypertonic. In his anecdotal short essay, Orwell uses characters as lenses to explore the core themes of rebellion and depravity found in his writing. To clarify, Orwell shows the effects of the british colonial system through the actions of the characters and the language used for their descriptions. For example, characters of indigenous origin to the colonies are defined on the basis of their religion or race. This illustrates the stereotypical fashion in which colonists defined natives. Similarly, Orwell use negative imagery and pathetic fallacy to dehumanise and belittle the prisoners in the story. As illustrated by quotes such as like animal cages and squatted in long rows , which compare the prisoners to animals ,thus garnering a sympathetic response from the audience and illustrates the severity of the condemned men s plight. Moreover, the dehumanization of the prisoners may reflect the way in which the narrator and other characters in position of power distance themselves from the acts they are committing. To illustrate, when preparing the prisoner for the execution he is treated as an object, a chore that must be completed in order for the characters to progress as opposed to an individual facing a grim end. Yet, during the execution the prisoner is described as higher being, he s acceptance of death is a force that terrorises the other characters, thus belittling them and showing the negative effect that the event has on their psyche. He was known for establishing the theory of a hierarchy, writing that the needs of human beings can act as motivators when those very needs remain unsatisfied. In order to address a need of a higher level, the immediate lower level of need must be satisfied initially.
