Essay On Lobbying
Since the founding of the United States, there have been divisions between political parties and
individuals who bribe the delegates of these parties. In a capitalist country where money and politics
combine together to create the system of government functioning today a delegate run capitalist
democracy it is all too easy for interest groups and wealthy individuals or organizations to affect laws
and votes. Due to the first amendment right giving citizens a right to petition the American
government and the 1819 U.S. court case Citizens United vs. Federal Election Commission
recognizing corporations as individual entities, an oil company that wishes to drill in preserved waters

government system this form of politics began to trend and within the past two centuries a lot had
happened. Opensecret.org released information on a timeline to expose the history of lobbying by
saying By the Gilded Age of the 1870s, the lobbying industry was in full swing, and Sam Ward was
the undisputed King of the Lobby. Ward was the pioneering social lobbyer, who dazzled members of
Congress with fancy dinners, fine wines, and conversation that often eventually won them over to his
side. However, in 1875, Ward was convicted of and admitted to bribery. In his testimony to Congress,
Ward is quoted as saying of his position as a lobbyist, I do not say I am proud but I am not ashamed of
the occupation. To show that in the Gilded Age social reformers like the suffragettes in the U.K. who
lobbied for their rights there were also a number of people who bribed politicians and this went on
until the passing of the Foreign Agents Registration Act. This act was created to prevent anti American
propaganda created by outside nations to come in during WWII. Later in 1945, a lobbying registration
act was created to make domestic lobbyists register with the Secretary of Senate and the Clerk of
House Representatives. In the 1990s the Lobbying Disclosure Act was passed a couple decades after
the Watergate Scandal with President Nixon and after the Wendtel Corporation lobby, the act was an
improvement of the 1945 law in order to prevent political

Micro-Economic Impacts on Tesco Plc
1.0 Introduction
In this essay we are going to evaluate the micro economic factors on the activities and performance of
Tesco.
Tesco Plc (2011) states, that the retail industry is a highly competitive environment. Tesco competes
with a wide variety of retailers of varying sizes and faces increased competition from UK retailers as
well as international operators in the UK and overseas. Failure to compete with competitors on areas
including price, product range, quality and service could have an adverse effect on the organisations
financial results. Tesco aims to have a broad appeal on price, range and store format in a way that
allows them to compete in different markets. There is a risk that Tesco may not deliver their stated
strategy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
5.0 Barriers to Entry
Barriers to entry are the means by which Tesco s potential competitors are blocked out. Due to Tesco s
monopolistic characteristics, Tesco will be able to enjoy higher profits in the long run as rivals have
not diluted market share. Three barriers of entry are:
Patents are legal property rights to prevent the entry of rivals. They are generally valid for an average
of 20 years and give Tesco the right to prevent competitors from using patented products. Tesco can
sell licences to competitors for a stated fee.
Using Advertising and Marketing Tesco have developed customer loyalty; their club card has played a
pivotal role in their customer loyalty. Thus making demand less sensitive to price; due to advertising
leading to an outward shift in demand.
Tesco engage in brand proliferation, as it is a firm which sells a vast range of products, this may
portray Tesco differently to consumers. This is common barriers to entry in these types of markets as it
is non price competitions for household good.
6.0 Porter s Five Forces
In order to evaluate the competitive environment surrounding Tesco, I shall utilise Porter s five forces
model illustrated in figure 2.

NASA Management Failure and the Columbia Space Shuttle...
Introduction The Columbia space shuttle disintegrated on re entry into the Earth s atmosphere in
February of 2003. The astronauts on board had completed a two week mission and were returning
home. The program was halted for the next couple of years while the disaster was investigated. The
Columbia Accident Investigation Board reported on what if found to be the cause of the tragedy. After
take off a piece of insulation foam fell off and hit the external fuel tank and left wing. The damage to
the wing s thermal protection was unknown. On re entry the heat caused the aluminum airframe
structure to melt, causing the explosion. The report listed other factors contributing to this accident
including organizational problems. How NASA presented ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They believed Columbia would survive re entry. The mission was allowed to continue. (Disaster,
2008) NASA had made a bad decision. The accident investigation report infers that the engineers
doubts and concerns not being effectively communicated to NASA s management. The wrong
reporting tool was used to convey technical data. Open discussion of concerns was not encouraged
and this resulted in failure to properly investigate issues. Senior executives did not encourage input
from the lower ranking engineers. The engineers saw potential danger from a foam strike to the
Columbia. The minutes and audiotapes of NASA s Mission Management Team reveal little discussion
other than from executives. Concerns regarding the foam impacts affect on the integrity of the orbiter
were quickly refocused to a discussion of how much additional maintenance might now be needed to
prepare Columbia for its next flight. Transcribed and audio evidence showed that many NASA
meetings were inconsistent and ineffective. NASA management meetings were condensed, sometimes
shaving multiple slide engineering analyses down to a single slide. The potential impact of a foam
strike on the orbiter is an example. Sometimes the slides presented would have factual errors or errors
in assumptions that an expanded briefing or technical data may have eliminated. The history of foam
strikes and external tank modifications is an example. Many key NASA

The Threat of Love in Totalitarian Regimes as Depicted in...
Love is the foundation and the weakness of a totalitarian regime. For a stable totalitarian society, love
between two individuals is eliminated because only a relationship between the person and the party
and a love for its leader can exist. The totalitarian society depicted throughout the Orwell s novel 1984
has created a concept of an Orwellian society. Stalin s Soviet state can be considered Orwellian
because it draws close parallels to the imaginary world of Oceania in 1984. During the twentieth
century, Soviet Russia lived under Stalin s brutal and oppressive governments, which was necessary
for Stalin to retain power. In both cases, brutality and oppression led to an absence of relationships and
love. This love was directed towards ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Joseph Stalin built up this love with the Cult of Personality . He was glorified with giant statues and
monuments. Stalin appeared daily on the cover of Soviet newspapers; he was in every facet of Soviet
life. Daily visual imagery of Stalin portrayed him as a Georgian peasant, which emphasized socialist
principles of power from the people. In addition, people called him father and teacher of the peoples
(Runyan 66) and a deity, because he replaced the Czar and the Church. These daily images were
engraved in the minds of the people. Thus, the Cult of Personality was flourishing. Propaganda
glorifying Stalin and Soviet ideals brainwashed the minds of Russian people. Stalin successfully
impressed his socialist philosophies on millions of workers and peasants. Over time, socialism
transformed into Stalinism, and it took hold. Stalin was able to hypnotize people towards one belief,
the love of Stalin. A simple cause and effect: they saw imagery of Stalin portrayed heroically everyday
in the news or on posters and they began to idolize him. Stalin is like Big Brother; he was the focus
and with the love and loyalty of his people, he had total power over them and their actions. The
description of Big Brother himself bears a physical resemblance to Stalin and his cult of personality.

Inward FDI and Innovation in the Indian Service Sector
Inward FDI and innovation in the Indian service sector Bikramjit Sinha This section analyses the
linkage between inward FDI flows and innovation activity in Indian service sector. The focus is on
service sector since there has been unprecedented inflow of FDI in services in recent years. FDI in
Services In 2000, share of FDI in services to total FDI inflows in India was just 1.8% and afterwards it
grew steadily to reach a record all time high of 34.7% during 2006 but declined afterwards. Of the
cumulative FDI in services during 2000 2010, financial services accounted for bulk of the inflows
(41.7%) followed by banking services (9.6%), and both non financial services and R D sharing 9.5%

from foreign countries which has from 1.2% in 2001 to 0.57% in 2010 (Table 2). FRTL intensity was
highest during 2002 (0.4%) which after passing through a fluctuating trend culminates to all time low

Monkey Wrench Gang Analysis
Recently, the spread of urban America and governmental control has led to difficulties in finding the
once plentiful wild. People often venture out past city limits into what they perceive as wilderness to
leave society behind in hopes of coming to some major life changing self realization. They believe
that the wild will transform them. However, a deeper look into this fascination with wilderness reveals
that urbanization, and not the wild, results in personal, and societal, transformation. For this reason,
revisiting the wilderness does not create new qualities in individuals, but helps surface qualities that
those individuals already possessed. Evidence to support this claim exists in several popular pieces of
American literature, including Edward Abbey s Monkey Wrench Gang.

This increase in the quantity and geographical sprawl of cities, as well as our dependence on them
characterizes what we commonly know as urbanization. In his article, Urbanization, Mental Health,

urbanization causes an increase in population which impacts the way individuals in an area interact
with one another, resulting in behavior changes among the population such as differentiation,
segmentalization, segregation, and marginalization (625). Due to the implementation of city limits,
and due to the link that exists between urbanization and the development of cities, the beginning and
end of urban areas appears to be well

Banning Boxing Essay
Banning Boxing
Last year half the world stood still for one of the biggest spectacles in sport a championship boxing
match. In May 2002, Lennox Lewis and Mike Tyson stepped in the ring to settle a yearlong grudge by
fighting each other. For the event, both men were flown to Las Vegas, Nevada, where they trained for
weeks and prepared themselves for the bout. The revenue created from stadium seats, advertising and
pay per view television (arranged by Don King of course) amounted to over 100 million dollars, all
leading up to a bout that, in all possibility, could have been over in the first round. Months of
preparation and millions of dollars in investment would climax in a 3 minute event. ... Show more

Years of abuse in the ring (punches to the chest, head and stomach) have taken their toll on him, and
the evidence of brain damage is chillingly present in his constant shakes and movements a reminder of
the risk involved when entering the ring.
As well as the physical danger there is also corruption in boxing, as illegal gambling on fixed matches
can lead to gang crime and murders. As shown in the film Snatch , a gang leader is led to placing
extraordinary amounts of money on a fixed bout and ends up in trouble with his clients when one of
the fighters had a different bet and caused him to lose. These chains of events can be seen as a justice
for those who take part in illegal gambling, but nonetheless it should be stopped. Boxing leads us to
believe that our problems can be solved with violence, instead of dealing with them properly. If
boxing were banned, it would almost certainly go underground and cause even more crimes to deal
with.
On the other hand, there are some advantages to boxing, in that it generates a lot of income for the
organisers, promoters and coaches, and even the boxers themselves get a pay check in excess of one
million dollars (in the biggest events). The fighters are clearly willing to take the risk of injury and
concussion to earn large amounts of money, and if the worst should happen, they accept the
responsibility of their actions.

Malware : Commonly referred to as malicious software that is designed to interrupt computer
functionality and/or to gain access to sensitive data. As an umbrella term, malware includes things
such computer viruses, Trojans, spyware, and other malicious programs. Malware can and often is
designed to create access ways into an adversary s computer or to attack it, sometimes both.
Therefore, using malware is seen as an instrument of hostility as it can also be implied. Almost every

Explain Why Stores Should Not Be Open On Thanksgiving
I think that stores should not be open on thanksgiving because one it will take time away from
thanksgiving and spending time with your famille. And two some people are opening loans just to go
shopping on thanksgiving and they are going into debt just to go shopping even though people could
go shopping after their dinner or spending time with their families., they should not be open on
thanksgiving because people are making loans to go shopping and people have died shopping. Here is
one reason why stores shouldn t be open. Some people are making their credit card debt higher by
shopping and having to pay more off. And some people are getting loans just to go shopping. And if
they do it they will have more money to pay off. And some people might not be able to pay it off. And

they should not be open on thanksgiving is that some people are getting hurt. And by hurt i mean

how people are getting hurt. One is that people say that they would kill for stuff well a someone

Descriptive Lake House Essay
It was chilly. It always was. The slight breeze and the overcast clouds provided a gray morning, which
to some foreshadowed a sad and droopy day but I saw the hopeful rays of sunshine attempting to leak
through the dull, gray bars that separated the warm sun from the cool ground. The lake house: a place
where I enjoyed the fruits of having a friendship with the daughter of the family who owned the
house. From wakeboarding to tubing to boat rides the lake offered all the amenities one could hope for
in a fairly large body of water. Yet these forms of entertainment only amount to the smallest fraction
of why the lake house is so integral to my contentment.
The dock has a fine hardwood finish that prevents painful splinters, plenty of comfortable lawn chairs
to sit in, an emerald green table where I have played countless hours of Settlers of Catan, and an
American flag that flutters majestically in the wind. The view, needless to say, is breathtaking. In the
chilly, gray mornings that accompany my lake house visits, I wake up early, amble to the dock, plop
down on a comfortable lawn chair, and gaze out into the body of water that is Weiss Lake. The smooth
waves undulate across the calm surface of the lake as if a herder is flocking his sheep slowly back into

Characteristics Of An Effective Teacher
Average teachers teach a skill, until students get it right. Highly effective teachers work with students
until they can t get it wrong (Jensen, 2016). An effective teacher makes good use of instructional time
and inspires students to do well and to know more. Each and every student in the class has to feel
comfortable and have the sense of belonging. The classroom has to be conducive to learning and has
the proper lighting so that learning can easily take place. Effective teachers are required to put in extra
time, work and commitment therefore; characteristics of an effective teacher would include positive
expectation, classroom management, and lesson mastery.
An effective teacher needs to plan ahead therefore he should incorporate classroom management.
Classroom management and management of student conduct are skills that teachers acquire and hone
over time and they should be flexible to take control of any situation. Also, teachers are values
oriented mentor and skills such as effective classroom management are central to teaching and require
common sense, consistency, and courage. These skills also require that teachers understand in more
than one way the psychological and developmental levels of their students. The skills associated with
effective classroom management are only acquired with practice, feedback, and a willingness to learn
from mistakes.
Classroom management is important because it engages students in learning in an organized and
appropriate matter

While there are those who may be uncomfortable with the idea that worship is a goal in making
disciples, the goal of Christian education according to Mitchell is to make a disciple who worships
Jesus. Mitchell points out that worship is more than just showing up at church on Sunday morning for

A second way is when someone starts the process of becoming a disciple or being a disciple, such as
in Matthew 27:57 or Luke 14:26 27. Lastly, there are those who are referred to as disciples that only
occasionally followed Jesus, such as those in Matthew 8:21. Samra summarizes discipleship
succinctly by saying that it is the process of becoming like Christ.
A one on one discipling relationship allows for the greatest accountability and requires the greatest
amount of trust on the part of both individuals. This type of discipleship often is the strongest and
most effective to achieve true spiritual growth. While it is quite easy to evade issues that may be
struggles in your life while listening to expository preaching or in a Sunday school setting, it is almost
impossible when in a one on one relationship with another Christian. As a result of the trust that has
been developed in the course of the relationship and the permission given by both parties to ask the
tough questions of each other, there is no escaping the immense amount of learning that can produce a
great deal of spiritual maturity in a new Christian.
While the goal of Christian education and discipleship is spiritual formation of the new believer into a
true disciple who makes other true disciples, this concept has been watered down in the American
church today by emphasis on programs instead of progressive spiritual growth in every member s life.

To Kill A Mockingbird Court Lessons

Harper Lee, the author of To Kill a Mockingbird, make the two together find that there are a lot of
trifles in the court systems, and they should be fixed. Jem and Scout during the trial have realized
three grave truths about life, people are stubborn, some things are done just to give people a reason,
and people will do whatever they need to do to get what they want. They first lesson I identified that
the two kids learned was that people are stubborn. The first time the kids are revealed to this is when
they go to the black church and they see that the whites are very different and separate. One thing that
the blacks did was only use one hymn book, and Jem and Scout couldn t believe it...but they both

Basketball Identity
What is an identity, an interest or a talent that defines me in an essential way? As a little kid who s
only thought was to have fun, all I cared about at first was playing video games and watching
cartoons, but that wasn t my interest as it became boring to me. Needing something new in my life,
one day, my cousins came over to my house asking if they could watch something on the TV, I said
sure, so they turned on the TV and put on a documentary. At first, I was disinterested and wanted to go
back to my usual habits, but I stayed and watched, I realized that the documentary contained the
answer to my question and that answer was basketball as it became an identity that defined me in an
essential way because it changed how I felt, how I thought, and how I lived. Out of all the things in
the world, basketball became my guidance, it spoke to me in a way where it wasn t just an interest, but
a window of discovering who I am, what I love, and what I want to become. In that window of time I
would watch every basketball game and practice my skills as a player. Watching NBA players give
their hearts out to the game of basketball brought me joy as well as the confidence and determination
to play and improve my skills to be just like them. My favorite player was Kobe Bryant because he

person would only dream of having. I would set an alarm at 10 a.m. to wake up and start practicing

Essay on Fight Club and Our Consumer Identity
Fight Club and Our Consumer Identity
The narrator in the film Fight Club is questioned about his devastated condo and declares, That condo
was my life, okay? I loved every stick of furniture in that place. That was not just a bunch of stuff that
got destroyed, that was me! This attitude of defining self identity through a consumer culture has
become institutionalized in the American society. The film Fight Club addresses the excessive
consumerism as a sign of emotional emptiness and as a form of self distinction. While the title
suggests that it is just another cliché action movie, it is not so shallow or narrowly focused. It instead
provides the viewer with a provocative view on American society and it raises valid questions about ...

Together, they end up creating the underground fight club that becomes wildly popular with blue
collar workers. Shirt less men beat each other into bloody messes every Saturday night in the
basement of a bar. As the movie progresses, this underground club becomes more of a renegade
resistance group that causes mayhem to corporate America. While Tyler is leading his cult to more
mischief and mayhem, Jack thinks it has gotten out of hand. Fight club has spread across the country
and Tyler s next mission is to blow up all the major credit companies to erase everyone s credit thus
leveling the economic playing field. Jack, in an attempt to stop him, chases Tyler around the country
but it always appears that he has just missed Tyler. Jack slowly comes to the conclusion that he
himself and Tyler are the same person. While Jack thought he was sleeping, in reality his
schizophrenic other half was working Tyler s jobs, making soap and trying to blow Americas
materialistic views to pieces. Jack is able to destroy his alter ego by over coming Tyler s influence and
shooting himself through the cheek; however, he is not able to stop Tyler s explosions. The last scene
shows the buildings collapsing while Jack and Marla are kissing.
Fight Club challenges the typical American consumer identity by creating two contradicting
characters. Jack starts out as a consumer defining his life by possessions, while Tyler lives his life on
his own terms. One of the better

Guns In John Steinbeck s The Grapes Of Wrath
Guns are one of the first things that people turn to, but what they don t know is that it eventually
backfires and changes their future. For example: when Davy shoots Finch and Baska the first thing he
turns to is a gun, not once does he think about talking to them about what s going through their
heads, instead he shoots then and will eventually end up in jail for his actions. Guns are also a symbol
of peace making. He shot them because the Land family was a nice calm family until Finch and Baska
can and stirred everything up, so Davy shot them so PEACE could come once again.
Additionally when Finch and Baska are breaking into the Land family s house Ruben explains: Then
the door handle turned the back door, off the kitchen. I knew that little squeal. How I wanted to be
Davy coming in, smoky and quiet and shaking off water, but Favy was inside already sleeping not five
feet from me, breathing through his nose in satisfied draughts. Nor was it Dad, for I could hear him

Analysis Of Disobedience As A Psychological And Moral...
The Disobedience as a Psychological and Moral Problem was written by Erich Fromm. The author
was a writer in the twentieth century. He did various things and had various jobs. The author talks
about the effects of obedience and disobedience. He explains that the world we live in today will be
destroyed through disobedience. Fromm uses mythological and religious figures to explain how this
theory makes sense. Fromm argues that society goes on without accomplishing freedom through
disobedience. Some forms of disobedience are acceptable, but others may be too harsh and
unnecessary. Fromm strongly believes that humans should be disobedient and if not they will not be
successful in life. The first thing that he talks about is Adam and Eve and how they disobeyed an
order, which was when they ate from the forbidden tree. The consequence of disobeying a request
made the ties with Earth tear and their eyes to open. Adam and Eve never again observed each other as
equivalents, they took a gander at each different as outsiders and additionally their general
surroundings. Fromm states that the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Frame Ambiguity In Elie Wiesel s The Arab
The translator uses many strategies in framing narratives, including frame ambiguity, to express her
point of view. As a result, the researcher here translates the word ‫اليهود‬ in Arabic into Zionists in
English. The translator wants to express the fact that real Jews at ancient time are religious and they
have principles unlike the Jews in this context who take a land that is not theirs by force and they
continue to use violence and to kill innocent Palestinians with no right. Consequently, they do not
deserve to be called Jews but Zionists. To deport somebody means to force him to leave a country,
usually because he breaks the law or because he has no legal right to be there . As a result, the
translator chooses to translate the word ‫الجئين‬ in Arabic into deportees in English when the Israeli
investigator is talking about Palestinians to stress the Zionists idea that Palestinians have no right to be
in Palestine and that this land belongs to the Israelis. Frame ambiguity is an effective strategy that
shows different points of views. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Descriptive Essay On The Day
On a late night, about 10:30. I make my bed and let my dog out to go to the bathroom. After letting her
out, I lay in bed hoping to have a good dream. I take off my glasses and turn off my lamp, and turn off
my wax burner because my mini poodle does not like the light that it emits, and she likes the moon
light. I am walking down the school hall, heading from the English classroom to the library. The hall
is empty with no one in sight. I m going to the library to go print out something for english but I am
unsure of what. There is an oval object against the wall on the right, it gives off the same effect as a
heat wave on top of a car. I turn to the orb, and look at it blankly. My fingers just an inch away, about
to touch it, then I wake up. I get ready for school, wake up at 5:40, play on my phone, get dressed, let
the dogs out, eat breakfast, brush teeth, and walk out the door. The day is boring as normal. I get to
English and remember that my new copy of my I am Famous is due. I ask the teacher if it is okay to
get it printed. After a moment of contemplating in her head, she just agrees. She replies in a rushed
way Okay, go quick. I walk down the hall and look down at my phone texting my friend. Ugh, school
is so stressful. Out of the corner of my eye I see something odd, when I look up there it is, the orb
shimmering. I look around to check if anyone is around to see it. No one, not even a single soul in
sight. I take the chance, walk over to it, and stare at it

Literary Analysis Of Symbolism In Janus By Ann Beattie
The definition of perfect is to have impeccable qualities on becoming an ideal object or being. For
some it expresses the physicality and personality of a person with attributes like flawless slick hair,
unblemished button nose, or a cunning sense of humor. This also reflects an object; the way it glitters
in certain light, the smooth surface of its carved shape, or the mood and ambience it presents to its
surrounding sphere. It does, however, all depend on preference. Author Ann Beattie writes the short
story Janus which portrays the protagonist named Andrea and her secret love life against her husband.
A secret love life represented by a perfect bowl. Within the story, literary devices discuss Andrea s
secrets and sensitivities she ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It describes a poetic feel, like how the bowl deals with a romantic affair connecting to Andrea, who
uses the bowl as a trick to persuade the buyer. Andrea tricks the buyer to devote themselves to the
house with the guidance of the bowl. Similar for Andrea, she feels counseled by the presence of the
bowl for her secret lover whom awards her with the craving of love she pleases. Even though Andrea
uses the bowl in her real estate houses, she further values it in the presence of her own home. The
narrator specifies Andrea s input about the bowl, saying it is both subtle and noticeable a paradox of a
bowl (595). Andrea cherishes the adventure and the excitement of knowing the classified details that
hide within the bowl. Beattie also hints to the reader that her affair is both aware and kept hidden,
because of the ceramic bowl. Such irony is to bestow a secret with the world around her. Wherever she
positioned it, the bowl stayed just like that. The author then makes clear that Andrea became more
deliberate with the bowl, and more possessive. She put it in the houses only when no one was there,
and removed it when she left the house (598). Time passes with the bowl, and Andrea feels she needs
it with her at all times, it becomes a part of her, like her camouflaged relationship. Showcasing the
bowl allows her to symbolize her hidden accord, while not suffering the consequences. She carries it
with her to give her that sense of

Spartacus and the Slave Wars Essay
According to Shaw in Spartacus and The Slave Wars , prisoners of war enslaved at the end of the
Second Punic War rebelled in 198 B.C. This slave uprising in central Italy is the first reliable report of
one, although it was surely not the first actual slave uprising. There were other slave uprisings in the
180s. These were small; however, there were 3 major slave revolts in Italy between 140 and 70 B.C.
These 3 uprisings are called the Servile Wars, since the Latin for slave is servus. However these 3
slave wars did not all end in victory. As a matter of fact, the 3 slave revolts failed, ending in murder of
the leaders. The reason why the slaves were defeated in the end was basically due to the fact that there
was no ultimate goal. They ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Motherhood Essay
Motherhood Many different aspects of life characterize motherhood. Traditions along with society
influence the role of motherhood. Carol Stacks All our Kin, is an essay about the structuring of kin
groups (1974, p.47). In the society, if the mother is not mature enough to raise the child, a close
female relative takes on the role of the mother; whereas, the man has the option of choosing to claim
the child and take on the responsibilities of fatherhood or he can imply that the father could be anyone,
which is a socially acceptable reason. Ruth Horowitz The Expanded Family and Family Honor,

Virginity is looked upon as an honor to a woman s husband or her father. It is dishonorable to lose one
s virginity before marriage because a mother is portrayed as an honorable and respectful figure. If her
virginity is lost before marriage or adultery is committed, the society s respect toward the mother is
lost.
On 32nd street, society establishes that the birth mother take on the role of the caretaker before birth
whereas, in The Flats, it is established after birth. On 32nd street, society implies that it is the woman s
duty to bear children. Motherhood is seen not as a last resort but rather as a highly honored role
(Horowitz, 1983, p.71). After marriage, a woman s chief purpose is to bear and raise children. In The
Flats, if the mother is not emotionally ready to nurture a child , the parental rights are given to a
female member of the family who accepts the responsibility as mama (Stack, 1974, p. 49). In the eyes
of the community, a young mother who does not perform her duties has not validated her claim to
parenthood (Stack, 1974, p.49).
When a woman becomes a mother she takes on the expected responsibility of bonding with her child.
In The Flats the mama is the women who raises the child, usually for life (Stack, 1974, p.48). The

Pregnant With Pcos
Can I get pregnant with PCOS?
There are many conditions women can develop that will make it harder for them to conceive. One of
the most common condition is PCOS or polycystic ovarian syndrome. To learn if you are able to
become pregnant when you have this condition, it is first important to learn more about the condition.
What is it?
PCOS is a condition that creates small cysts on a woman s ovaries. In many instances, these cysts are
developed because a woman s hormones are out of balance. The symptoms that women face when
they have PCOS will vary. For example, some women may develop acne or have trouble maintaining
a healthy weight.
However, one of the most common issues that women face when they have PCOS is struggling to
have a regular menstrual cycle. When you are not able to ovulate regularly, it is extremely difficult for
you to become pregnant. Some ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To do this, you should use either a basal thermometer or an ovulation predictor kit. Both of these items
are extremely easy to use and will help you determine when you are ovulating.
Tracking your ovulation cycle has a couple of different benefits for women who are suffering from
PCOS. First, it helps you to determine if your treatment is working because it will let you know if you
start ovulating. Also, it can help make it easier for you to conceive because you will know when the
best time to have intercourse is. When you test positive for ovulation, you should begin having
intercourse every other day for several days.
Women with PCOS are able to become pregnant fairly frequently. Usually, with treatment, a woman
should be able to become pregnant just as she would without this type of condition. However, there
are some women who are never able to conceive when they have PCOS. The best way to determine
what your specific chances of conceiving are is to talk with your doctor about your

The Culture of Tuscany during the Renaissance
The culture of Tuscany during the renaissance was distinguished by its fine arts caused by the Roman
Empire taking over of Constantinople, which brought Greek knowledge of math, science, architecture,
and the arts to the Tuscan region. In this particular time period, (1429 1519) if it were not for the
introduction of new understandings in math and science, the Tuscans would not have had the
advancements in art and architecture we use to this day. To further expand on this topic, we must look
into additional aspects of Tuscany s culture including geography, work, folkways, and religion.
Tuscany is a fairly large region, compared to others in the middle left of Italy. It is surrounded by the
Tyrrhenian sea to the southwest, and the Apennines along the northeastern border. Tuscany has a
climate of extremes. It has all four seasons, but to extremes. It has very hot summers and fairly cold
winters, along with general clouds but little rain, due to mostly the geography of its location. Most of
the buildings had extreme mathematical alignments, in a grid fashion. Most of the buildings were
made of Stone, Stucco and some clay. The streets were in two semicircles divided by the Arno River.
The streets were aligned in a web pattern, surrounded by the mighty city walls. They had a lot of
natural water from the Tyrrhenian sea, and the various rivers, such as the famous Arno river that cuts
the city of Tuscany in two, having a source at the top of the apennine mountains, generally.

Nazi Germany And The Nuclear Weapons Program
In early 1939, the scientific community was stunned when German scientists discovered how to split a
uranium atom. The world was shocked at the possibility of Nazi Germany building an atomic weapon,
capable of destruction never before seen in warfare. Luckily for the Allied Powers, scientists Albert
Einstein and Enrico Fermi, worked for the United States atomic research program codenamed the
Manhattan Project. Einstein and Fermi had escaped Nazi Germany and the Fascist government in
Italy, respectively. Initially the worth of the project was not realized, and it proceeded slowly.
Eventually, as the worth was proved, new resources and funding were allocated, totaling 120,000
employees and two billion dollars. On July 16, 1945 the United States successfully tested an atomic
bomb, and won the atomic race (The Manhattan Project). While the United States was working on the
Manhattan Project, Nazi Germany was working on its own nuclear weapons program, but unlike the
United States, the Nazis never realized the importance of a nuclear weapon, and allocated only a
fraction of the personnel, resources, and funding the United States did. The progress of the Nazi
atomic weapons program was further slowed (Walker). The debate continues whether or not a Nazi
atomic bomb was ever completed, but if it were, it was not ever used in combat. Had a bomb been
completed a significant amount of time before the end of the war, the Nazis had advanced and
sufficient planes, submarines, and rockets

  • 2. Essay On Lobbying Since the founding of the United States, there have been divisions between political parties and individuals who bribe the delegates of these parties. In a capitalist country where money and politics combine together to create the system of government functioning today a delegate run capitalist democracy it is all too easy for interest groups and wealthy individuals or organizations to affect laws and votes. Due to the first amendment right giving citizens a right to petition the American government and the 1819 U.S. court case Citizens United vs. Federal Election Commission recognizing corporations as individual entities, an oil company that wishes to drill in preserved waters can practice that constitutional right to petition the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... government system this form of politics began to trend and within the past two centuries a lot had happened. Opensecret.org released information on a timeline to expose the history of lobbying by saying By the Gilded Age of the 1870s, the lobbying industry was in full swing, and Sam Ward was the undisputed King of the Lobby. Ward was the pioneering social lobbyer, who dazzled members of Congress with fancy dinners, fine wines, and conversation that often eventually won them over to his side. However, in 1875, Ward was convicted of and admitted to bribery. In his testimony to Congress, Ward is quoted as saying of his position as a lobbyist, I do not say I am proud but I am not ashamed of the occupation. To show that in the Gilded Age social reformers like the suffragettes in the U.K. who lobbied for their rights there were also a number of people who bribed politicians and this went on until the passing of the Foreign Agents Registration Act. This act was created to prevent anti American propaganda created by outside nations to come in during WWII. Later in 1945, a lobbying registration act was created to make domestic lobbyists register with the Secretary of Senate and the Clerk of House Representatives. In the 1990s the Lobbying Disclosure Act was passed a couple decades after the Watergate Scandal with President Nixon and after the Wendtel Corporation lobby, the act was an improvement of the 1945 law in order to prevent political ... • 3. Micro-Economic Impacts on Tesco Plc 1.0 Introduction In this essay we are going to evaluate the micro economic factors on the activities and performance of Tesco. Tesco Plc (2011) states, that the retail industry is a highly competitive environment. Tesco competes with a wide variety of retailers of varying sizes and faces increased competition from UK retailers as well as international operators in the UK and overseas. Failure to compete with competitors on areas including price, product range, quality and service could have an adverse effect on the organisations financial results. Tesco aims to have a broad appeal on price, range and store format in a way that allows them to compete in different markets. There is a risk that Tesco may not deliver their stated strategy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 5.0 Barriers to Entry Barriers to entry are the means by which Tesco s potential competitors are blocked out. Due to Tesco s monopolistic characteristics, Tesco will be able to enjoy higher profits in the long run as rivals have not diluted market share. Three barriers of entry are: Patents are legal property rights to prevent the entry of rivals. They are generally valid for an average of 20 years and give Tesco the right to prevent competitors from using patented products. Tesco can sell licences to competitors for a stated fee. Using Advertising and Marketing Tesco have developed customer loyalty; their club card has played a pivotal role in their customer loyalty. Thus making demand less sensitive to price; due to advertising leading to an outward shift in demand. Tesco engage in brand proliferation, as it is a firm which sells a vast range of products, this may portray Tesco differently to consumers. This is common barriers to entry in these types of markets as it is non price competitions for household good. 6.0 Porter s Five Forces In order to evaluate the competitive environment surrounding Tesco, I shall utilise Porter s five forces model illustrated in figure 2. • 4. NASA Management Failure and the Columbia Space Shuttle... Introduction The Columbia space shuttle disintegrated on re entry into the Earth s atmosphere in February of 2003. The astronauts on board had completed a two week mission and were returning home. The program was halted for the next couple of years while the disaster was investigated. The Columbia Accident Investigation Board reported on what if found to be the cause of the tragedy. After take off a piece of insulation foam fell off and hit the external fuel tank and left wing. The damage to the wing s thermal protection was unknown. On re entry the heat caused the aluminum airframe structure to melt, causing the explosion. The report listed other factors contributing to this accident including organizational problems. How NASA presented ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They believed Columbia would survive re entry. The mission was allowed to continue. (Disaster, 2008) NASA had made a bad decision. The accident investigation report infers that the engineers doubts and concerns not being effectively communicated to NASA s management. The wrong reporting tool was used to convey technical data. Open discussion of concerns was not encouraged and this resulted in failure to properly investigate issues. Senior executives did not encourage input from the lower ranking engineers. The engineers saw potential danger from a foam strike to the Columbia. The minutes and audiotapes of NASA s Mission Management Team reveal little discussion other than from executives. Concerns regarding the foam impacts affect on the integrity of the orbiter were quickly refocused to a discussion of how much additional maintenance might now be needed to prepare Columbia for its next flight. Transcribed and audio evidence showed that many NASA meetings were inconsistent and ineffective. NASA management meetings were condensed, sometimes shaving multiple slide engineering analyses down to a single slide. The potential impact of a foam strike on the orbiter is an example. Sometimes the slides presented would have factual errors or errors in assumptions that an expanded briefing or technical data may have eliminated. The history of foam strikes and external tank modifications is an example. Many key NASA ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Threat of Love in Totalitarian Regimes as Depicted in... Love is the foundation and the weakness of a totalitarian regime. For a stable totalitarian society, love between two individuals is eliminated because only a relationship between the person and the party and a love for its leader can exist. The totalitarian society depicted throughout the Orwell s novel 1984 has created a concept of an Orwellian society. Stalin s Soviet state can be considered Orwellian because it draws close parallels to the imaginary world of Oceania in 1984. During the twentieth century, Soviet Russia lived under Stalin s brutal and oppressive governments, which was necessary for Stalin to retain power. In both cases, brutality and oppression led to an absence of relationships and love. This love was directed towards ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Joseph Stalin built up this love with the Cult of Personality . He was glorified with giant statues and monuments. Stalin appeared daily on the cover of Soviet newspapers; he was in every facet of Soviet life. Daily visual imagery of Stalin portrayed him as a Georgian peasant, which emphasized socialist principles of power from the people. In addition, people called him father and teacher of the peoples (Runyan 66) and a deity, because he replaced the Czar and the Church. These daily images were engraved in the minds of the people. Thus, the Cult of Personality was flourishing. Propaganda glorifying Stalin and Soviet ideals brainwashed the minds of Russian people. Stalin successfully impressed his socialist philosophies on millions of workers and peasants. Over time, socialism transformed into Stalinism, and it took hold. Stalin was able to hypnotize people towards one belief, the love of Stalin. A simple cause and effect: they saw imagery of Stalin portrayed heroically everyday in the news or on posters and they began to idolize him. Stalin is like Big Brother; he was the focus and with the love and loyalty of his people, he had total power over them and their actions. Inward FDI and Innovation in the Indian Service Sector Inward FDI and innovation in the Indian service sector Bikramjit Sinha This section analyses the linkage between inward FDI flows and innovation activity in Indian service sector. The focus is on service sector since there has been unprecedented inflow of FDI in services in recent years. FDI in Services In 2000, share of FDI in services to total FDI inflows in India was just 1.8% and afterwards it grew steadily to reach a record all time high of 34.7% during 2006 but declined afterwards. Of the cumulative FDI in services during 2000 2010, financial services accounted for bulk of the inflows (41.7%) followed by banking services (9.6%), and both non financial services and R D sharing 9.5% each (Table 1). • 8. Monkey Wrench Gang Analysis Recently, the spread of urban America and governmental control has led to difficulties in finding the once plentiful wild. People often venture out past city limits into what they perceive as wilderness to leave society behind in hopes of coming to some major life changing self realization. They believe that the wild will transform them. However, a deeper look into this fascination with wilderness reveals that urbanization, and not the wild, results in personal, and societal, transformation. For this reason, revisiting the wilderness does not create new qualities in individuals, but helps surface qualities that those individuals already possessed. Evidence to support this claim exists in several popular pieces of American literature, including Edward Abbey s Monkey Wrench Gang. This increase in the quantity and geographical sprawl of cities, as well as our dependence on them characterizes what we commonly know as urbanization. In May 2002, Lennox Lewis and Mike Tyson stepped in the ring to settle a yearlong grudge by fighting each other. For the event, both men were flown to Las Vegas, Nevada, where they trained for weeks and prepared themselves for the bout. The revenue created from stadium seats, advertising and pay per view television (arranged by Don King of course) amounted to over 100 million dollars, all leading up to a bout that, in all possibility, could have been over in the first round. Months of preparation and millions of dollars in investment would climax in a 3 minute event. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Years of abuse in the ring (punches to the chest, head and stomach) have taken their toll on him, and the evidence of brain damage is chillingly present in his constant shakes and movements a reminder of the risk involved when entering the ring. As well as the physical danger there is also corruption in boxing, as illegal gambling on fixed matches can lead to gang crime and murders. As shown in the film Snatch , a gang leader is led to placing extraordinary amounts of money on a fixed bout and ends up in trouble with his clients when one of the fighters had a different bet and caused him to lose. These chains of events can be seen as a justice for those who take part in illegal gambling, but nonetheless it should be stopped. Boxing leads us to believe that our problems can be solved with violence, instead of dealing with them properly. If boxing were banned, it would almost certainly go underground and cause even more crimes to deal with. On the other hand, there are some advantages to boxing, in that it generates a lot of income for the organisers, promoters and coaches, and even the boxers themselves get a pay check in excess of one million dollars (in the biggest events). The fighters are clearly willing to take the risk of injury and concussion to earn large amounts of money, and if the worst should happen, they accept the responsibility of their actions. ... The slight breeze and the overcast clouds provided a gray morning, which to some foreshadowed a sad and droopy day but I saw the hopeful rays of sunshine attempting to leak through the dull, gray bars that separated the warm sun from the cool ground. The lake house: a place where I enjoyed the fruits of having a friendship with the daughter of the family who owned the house. From wakeboarding to tubing to boat rides the lake offered all the amenities one could hope for in a fairly large body of water. Lastly, there are those who are referred to as disciples that only occasionally followed Jesus, such as those in Matthew 8:21. Samra summarizes discipleship succinctly by saying that it is the process of becoming like Christ. A one on one discipling relationship allows for the greatest accountability and requires the greatest amount of trust on the part of both individuals. This type of discipleship often is the strongest and most effective to achieve true spiritual growth. While it is quite easy to evade issues that may be struggles in your life while listening to expository preaching or in a Sunday school setting, it is almost impossible when in a one on one relationship with another Christian. As a result of the trust that has been developed in the course of the relationship and the permission given by both parties to ask the tough questions of each other, there is no escaping the immense amount of learning that can produce a great deal of spiritual maturity in a new Christian. While the goal of Christian education and discipleship is spiritual formation of the new believer into a true disciple who makes other true disciples, this concept has been watered down in the American church today by emphasis on programs instead of progressive spiritual growth in every member s life. After marriage, a woman s chief purpose is to bear and raise children. In The Flats, if the mother is not emotionally ready to nurture a child , the parental rights are given to a female member of the family who accepts the responsibility as mama (Stack, 1974, p. 49). In the eyes of the community, a young mother who does not perform her duties has not validated her claim to parenthood (Stack, 1974, p.49). When a woman becomes a mother she takes on the expected responsibility of bonding with her child. In The Flats the mama is the women who raises the child, usually for life (Stack, 1974, p.48). • 33. The Culture of Tuscany during the Renaissance The culture of Tuscany during the renaissance was distinguished by its fine arts caused by the Roman Empire taking over of Constantinople, which brought Greek knowledge of math, science, architecture, and the arts to the Tuscan region. In this particular time period, (1429 1519) if it were not for the introduction of new understandings in math and science, the Tuscans would not have had the advancements in art and architecture we use to this day. To further expand on this topic, we must look into additional aspects of Tuscany s culture including geography, work, folkways, and religion. Tuscany is a fairly large region, compared to others in the middle left of Italy. It is surrounded by the Tyrrhenian sea to the southwest, and the Apennines along the northeastern border. Tuscany has a climate of extremes. It has all four seasons, but to extremes. It has very hot summers and fairly cold winters, along with general clouds but little rain, due to mostly the geography of its location. Most of the buildings had extreme mathematical alignments, in a grid fashion. Most of the buildings were made of Stone, Stucco and some clay. The streets were in two semicircles divided by the Arno River. The streets were aligned in a web pattern, surrounded by the mighty city walls. They had a lot of natural water from the Tyrrhenian sea, and the various rivers, such as the famous Arno river that cuts the city of Tuscany in two, having a source at the top of the apennine mountains, generally. ... • 34. Nazi Germany And The Nuclear Weapons Program In early 1939, the scientific community was stunned when German scientists discovered how to split a uranium atom. The world was shocked at the possibility of Nazi Germany building an atomic weapon, capable of destruction never before seen in warfare. Luckily for the Allied Powers, scientists Albert Einstein and Enrico Fermi, worked for the United States atomic research program codenamed the Manhattan Project. Einstein and Fermi had escaped Nazi Germany and the Fascist government in Italy, respectively. Initially the worth of the project was not realized, and it proceeded slowly. Eventually, as the worth was proved, new resources and funding were allocated, totaling 120,000 employees and two billion dollars. On July 16, 1945 the United States successfully tested an atomic bomb, and won the atomic race (The Manhattan Project). While the United States was working on the Manhattan Project, Nazi Germany was working on its own nuclear weapons program, but unlike the United States, the Nazis never realized the importance of a nuclear weapon, and allocated only a fraction of the personnel, resources, and funding the United States did. The progress of the Nazi atomic weapons program was further slowed (Walker). The debate continues whether or not a Nazi atomic bomb was ever completed, but if it were, it was not ever used in combat. Had a bomb been completed a significant amount of time before the end of the war, the Nazis had advanced and sufficient planes, submarines, and rockets ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
