Swot And Pest Analysis Of Michael Kors s Parent Company
INTRODUCTION:
This assignment sets out that I have to do a SWOT PEST Analysis.
Involved in the assignment is the following:
 State the Company I chose and why?
 Outline the Company s purpose
 Draw and Evaluate an Organisational Chart
 Do a SWOT PEST and State the impact it had on the company.
 Detail how the company should adapt and change because of the SWOT PEST.
 Make appropriate conclusions and recommendations
I chose the company Michael Kors Holdings Ltd; this is a private limited company. I have chosen this
company because I have always had a love for his designer watches and fashion but to think about
how popular the company has gotten so quickly over the past few years is incredible and I m hoping
this assignment will show me a bit of how he did it and why it happened so quickly.

Political:
 Government Stability Michael Kors Parent Company is based in the US, and they have other
companies based in China and parts of Europe. But the US government stability is the most important
one because if the US goes down, the rest go down. The US government is very stable after the
Shutdown in 2013. They don t want another report of that again, because the company didn t know if
they were going to survive it.
Economical:
 European Debt Crisis/Chinese Economic Bubble Just as Michael Kors looks to expand his brand to
the rest of the world, the European Debt Crisis struck. This became an extreme threat to his company.
When an economy takes a downturn people aren t spending money the way they used to in the Boom
time. During this time, Michael Kors had to find a way to market products at an affordable price. This
is when the Michael Michael Kors brand was introduced. This emphasizes that the brand is high
quality yet has a cheaper

Criticism Of Karl Marx s Ideas Of Capitalism
Bertrand Russell once expressed that advocates of capitalism are very apt to appeal to the sacred
principles of liberty, which are embodied in one maxim: The fortunate must not be restrained in the
exercise of tyranny over the unfortunate (Russell). Even in a relatively capitalist society, there are
always criticism regarding the capitalism and its disregard for the unfortunate and the tyranny the
fortunate exert over. The foremost proponent of this antagonism would be Karl Marx, who claimed
that capitalism is ultimately hurtling toward its downfall.
The basic premise of the capitalism that Marx denied was as thus: in the modern industrialisation
inevitably creates a bipartisan system, in which the bourgeoisie, or those who are the ... Show more

This, in turn, would create a dissention from the proletariat and lead to an uprising. Marx actually
predicted that the first ones to have revolution would be the more industrialised countries.
Marx never addressed the actual capitalism we face today in his Das Kapital. Instead, he proposed a
setting of ideal capitalism, in which there are no monopolies, no unions, no special advantages for
anyone. It is a world in which every commodity sells at exactly its proper price. And that proper price
is its value (Heilbroner). The value is defined as the amount of labour it took to create that certain
merchandise. This obviously has a flaw, as if products were traded at its true value there would be no
margin of profit. The margin is produced via the discrepancy of the labour value and the value of the
actual labour performed; that is, if a labourer needs six hours of labour to survive at the rate of one
pound a day, the labourer would actually work for eight hours while being paid for only six hours.
This is because a labourer can only ask for what is due by his subsistence; he can only ask for six
pounds a day, because that is all he needs to survive. The capitalist, by owning the means of
production, can force the terms into ten our eleven hours as opposed to six, while

Gothic Horror Stories Essay
Unlike The Red Room and The Monkey s Paw, the setting of The Telltale Heart is not significant to
building up suspense; however there are a few elements that do. How is tension and suspense built up
and maintained in at least two Gothic horror stories? The genre of Gothic Horror was developed
during 19th and early 20th century and had a popular appeal to the new middle class people who
sought entertainment. Gothic Horror has common characteristics of suspense, fear and would often
include a rational, scientifically minded character who fails to heed warnings. Gothic horror tales
often have exotic and mythical influences. The night and the unreassuring lack of light play a big part
in adding to the hellish imagery. One ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

the writers descent towards the rail way track [the path] became oozier and wetter as I went down .
This gives the reader the feeling of sluggishness; the image slows the story down and thus increases
the suspense. Unlike The Red Room and The Monkey s Paw , the setting of The Telltale Heart is not

Red Room is logical and rational, yet naïve: I can assure you... it will take a very tangible ghost to

the mystery of the red room can be explained rationally reflects the time H.G.Wells was writing in:
modernity was concerned with replacing belief in magic and ghosts with scientific knowledge.
Tension is built by putting such a modern man in a setting with sinister old people whose lives are

Kelley Outbreak
The Kelly outbreak is a famous phenomenon in Australia s colonial history. Whilst some people prefer
to see the outbreak as a simple criminal incident between an outlaw and the police, most historians
view it as a broader sociological phenomenon, involving conflict between a larger rural community
and the colonial authorities. An important issue for historians has been to understand the underlying
causes of this criminal outbreak, whether it was mainly due to personal, ethnic or socio economic
factors. This essay will critically examine each of these explanations and argue that the actions of the
Kellys and their supporters, and the reactions of the police can best be understood in terms of broad
socio economic developments in rural ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These changes, he argues, could not fail to produce profound results , one of which was an outbreak of
social banditry 13 . Evidence from the period strongly supports such a view. The region was first
occupied by squatters during the late 1830s and 1840s, and was largely settled by 1847. By 1850,
several villages were established, there were good seasons and high wool prices .... 14 Between 1860
and 1880 several land reform laws were introduced, intended to halt the monopoly of the squatters by
creating a new rural class from the diggers now experiencing diminishing returns on the goldfields.
These laws made available small freeholds of pastoral land for selection by any man or (single)
woman over the age of eighteen.... 15 This effort to make land available to the new rural classes
proved a failure however. The government s and the selectors knowledge of agriculture, shaped by the
European experience, proved largely to be inapplicable to Australia .. 16 In addition, selection was
opposed and obstructed by the squatters who used their superior knowledge of land conditions,
political and financial influence, and evasion of certain regulations of the Land Acts to amass large
holdings of premium land, leaving poorer land to selectors. ... 17 This situation caused hardship and
poverty among selectors, and stock theft became an increasing problem as the selectors sought to
supplement meagre food supplies and income with stock stolen

According to International Diabetes Federation, approximately 592 million people worldwide would
be suffering from diabetes by 2035 and this would be a major economic burden to the society globally.
Detail knowledge of normal physiological processes at cellular and molecular level will give me a

Why Boomerangs Come Back
Why do boomerangs come back?
When I was young, I thought boomerangs were magical. I wasn t sure if they actually worked in real
life, so I decided to make my own to test the idea. I took a pizza box, cut out a boomerang shape from
it, and threw it. It didn t come back. I tried again and again, but I couldn t make it work. I was
bewildered as to why my boomerang didn t come back! As it turns out, I had constructed it incorrectly.
I thought a boomerang was just a flat, v shaped piece of material, and my design was way off. But
before we get into that, let s learn a little bit about the history of the boomerang.
Considered by many to be the earliest heavier than air flying machine invented by man, boomerangs
have been around for more than ten thousand years. Australia is known for having developed the
boomerang, but the tool had widespread use throughout the ancient world. In ... Show more content on

This is the question we will explore in my paper.
Boomerangs come back because, as I learned as a young child, they are more than just oddly shaped
sticks. The shape and structure of the wings and the way they are joined together at the center are
essential to their ability to turn in mid air and come back to the thrower. Contrary to what you might
think, boomerangs aren t designed to work as a single piece of wood. They are made up of two or
more carefully shaped wings that are connected at the center. Each of these wings is designed to
maximize (or increase) lift on one side.
What is lift? , you might ask. The easiest way to explain the idea of lift is to compare a boomerang
wing to an airplane wing. If you look at the picture below, you will see that an airplane wing is curved
along the top and flat along the bottom. This is the reason these massive machines can stay in the air:
The air that goes over the wing as the plane flies has to move faster than the air that goes below the
wing in order for them to move past the wing at the same

Relationships Are Part Of The Society’S Life. As People
Relationships are part of the society s life. As people tend to grow up, we get to know the feeling of
attraction and being in love towards the opposite sex. However, some people choose to commit to not
only one person, but to multiple relationships. This is called an open relationship. Open relationship is
an interpersonal relationship where both parties agreed to be together but can develop relationships to
other partners as well. Although this multiple commitment seems to be an easy going and
straightforward kind of relationship, conflicts may still arise through this kind of relationship. People
are being more open to this kind of relationship, so often that other people think that this certain type

want her past experience happen again. This is self justification. We alter our recollections from the

To test our hypothesis, we will use the Experimental method, where we use scientific research. This is
the most helpful method when it comes to determining causal relatons. In addition, we will be using
basic research, as we are finding out why certain individuals behave the way they do and it is out of
the researcher s curiosity. The independent variable in this case is the satisfaction rate of open

generalizability across people, because we conducted an experiment associating populations, and is a

Embracing Dream And Identity Of Hong Kong
Embracing Dream and Identity
In the 90s of the century, many important events happened between China and Hong Kong. Without
questioning, one of the most influential incidents happened during this period of time was Hong Kong
s reunion with China in July 1997; it transformed Hong Kong from a colonial dependent territory to a
Chinese administration region. The local Hong Kong people felt disoriented of their futures and many
of them came to the question of their national identities; it is because the different political and
educational system between Hong Kong and China makes the local Hong Kong people feel
differentiated from the mainland Chinese people. Since Hong Kong and China has been separated for
a few decades, the local Hong Kong ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many themes are depicted in these movies, and yet, the topic which has been most discussed is the
exploration of identity. I will discuss in the following of my paper on three Hong Kong movies I pick,
Full Moon in New York (Dir. Stanley Kwan, 1989), Her Fatal Ways (Dir. Alfred Cheung, 1990), and
Comrades, Almost a Lover Story (Dir. Peter Chan, 1997) as reference to illustrate my idea into a
deeper level. Full Moon in New York (Dir. Stanley Kwan, 1989), is a tale of three Chinese women
who has a different cultural background and immigrate to New York out of their distinct purposes.
Zhao Hong, starring Siqin Gaowa, plays a submissive housewife who gains her legal status in U.S.
after married to an American citizen, Thomas. Although her husband and she are able to make a
decent living in Manhattan, however, she is barely coping with strange Western ways. The other two
actresses in the leading role are Sylvia Chang and Maggie Cheung. Sylvia plays as an aspiring actress
and Maggie Cheung plays an ambitious successful business woman. These three women meet at a
diner, which Maggie owns, and their friendship forges on since then. One of the most important
themes has been portrayed in this movie is the cultural conflicts between the Western and Eastern
culture. Such differences are well represented in the relationship of Zhao Hong and her husband. No

causes/factors that lead to obesity but researchers identify genetics, overeating and a lack of exercise
as three of the major causes. As a result of obesity, children suffer from both immediate and long term

A tool known as BMI (body mass index) is used by medical providers to calculate an individual s
body mass index. It calculated by measuring a child s weight and height and the found value is then
compared to percentiles relative to other children of the same age and sex. For example, if a child
aged anywhere from 2 19 is more than 85% and less than 95% they are considered overweight.
(Center for Disease Control and Prevention, 2009). This tool is not a method used to diagnosis
childhood obesity but it s a valuable way to measure the prevalence of obesity worldwide.
Introduction: In 1998 the World Health Organization announced that obesity had become an epidemic
in both adults and children. This epidemic is a major concern in public health yet many countries are
failing to address the issue. The purpose of this paper is to discuss the causes contributing to this
increasing epidemic of childhood obesity. There are many causes that factor into childhood obesity but
I will focus specifically on genetics, overeating, and the lack of exercise. Of the many countries
struggling to combat obesity Japan came up with their own solution. The article titled: Japan Has Cut

Next, I would lead by example by being receptive to each child s personal space and needs. This

The Pros And Cons Of Flag Burning
On August 22, 1984, Gregory Lee Johnson was arrested for setting the U.S. flag on fire. His simple act
of protest led to the Supreme Court ruling that flag burning is protected under the First Amendment as
free speech, thus overturning his conviction. The flag symbolizes freedom, and part of that freedom is
being able to express dissatisfaction with the government. However, some see flag burning not merely
as a demonstration of opinion, but as an attack on national unity and American values. Should it be
illegal to burn the U.S. flag as an form of protest, or is this method within the rights of American
citizens? Johnson set the stars and stripes ablaze at the 1984 Republican National Convention after

Concerning the outcome of Texas v. Johnson, Justice William Brennan delivered the opinion of the
court: If there is a bedrock principle underlying the First Amendment, it is that government may not
prohibit the expression of an idea simply because society finds the idea itself offensive or
disagreeable. Flag burning may be offensive to loyal Americans, but it is not threatening enough by
itself to justify punishment. Brennan also stated that we do not consecrate the flag by punishing its
desecration, for in so doing we dilute the the freedom that this cherished emblem represents. In
Johnson s case, the Supreme Court valued constitutional principles rather than patriotic preferences.
The Supreme Court s stance on flag burning has remained the same since. Nevertheless, thirty years
after United States v. Eichman, there is still controversy over whether or not it should be legal. A
recent example of the present discussion on flag burning is a tweet made by President Donald Trump
in 2016: Nobody should be allowed to burn the American flag if they do, there must be consequences
perhaps loss of citizenship or year in jail! However, without a reason to change the law besides
personal opinion, the Supreme Court is not likely to reverse their decision and make flag burning

As Planes Get Bigger, the Market-Place Gets More Competitive
CASE STUDY 3
AS PLANES GET BIGGER, THE MARKET PLACE GETS MORE COMPETITIVE
I INTRODUCTION
Globalisation rapidly changes marketing environment and marketplace become more competitive. It is
no longer enough for company to be driven by product and technology without building customer
relationship (Kotler, Adam, Denize and Armstrong 2009). Moreover, business success is not
determined by the producer but by the customer (Drucker 1973 cited in Kotler et al. 2009, p. 4). Thus,
in order to achieve organisation s goals, marketing management needs to be flexible to adapt
continuously changes of the environment.

Thus, marketers must adjust and adopt these changes in their promotional policies to target on the
broader range of requirements.
2 Political and legal: give both opportunities and challenges ← Law: Regulation is enforced by
government to protect passengers, the interests of society from business practices and prevent unfair
competition (Kotler et al. 2009). ← Deregulation: Government regulates domestic marketplace.
Recently, international Open Skies policies between many countries have established more
competition for airline companies (Taube 2009). Increasing deregulate marketplaces greatly affect the
business and marketing strategies. It gives more opportunities as well as increases market competition
between international airlines, regional airlines and low cost airlines. ← Terrorism: The effect of
terrorism in air travel industry is catastrophic (Shaw 2004). A terrorist attack could seriously decrease
in demand for air travel due to safety and security concern (Graham 2006). Similarly, instability policy
also is a major challenge for airline marketing which is usually sudden and out of their control (Shaw
2004). ← Privatization: According to Shaw (2004), under privatization, the objective of an airline
company is to maximize their profits for the sake of shareholders. However, under government

The Great Communicator By Ronald Reagan
As stated in an article from Newsmakers, Ronald Reagan was known as the Great Communicator
because he was able to clearly speak to the public due to his unusual experiences before presidency
(Newsmakers). Every president of the United States has a unique story, but Reagan possessed many
remarkable characteristics. Today, many people recognize Reagan as a former president, but few know
about the struggles he faced and his success before presidency; his political party transition, handling
economic fluctuation, and his attitude throughout his terms in office made him an unforgettable
political figure. Reagan was born in Tampico, Illinois and grew up in Dixon, Illinois. Dixon is a
typical small town in the midwest. Unlike many other presidents, Reagan had a rough upbringing.
According to a book titled Up Close: Ronald Reagan, his father Jack was an alcoholic. At 11 years
old, Reagan witnessed his father passed out on the porch one evening after returning from the YMCA.
He had to drag his father into the house and put him in bed. Jack was constantly fighting alcoholism
for most of his life causing him to struggle at work, fight with his family members, and disappear
from home. Reagan s mother, Nelle, continued telling him and his older brother, Neil, that their father
was addicted to alcohol and he could not control it. Nelle even sent Ronald and Neil to live with
relatives when Jack s alcohol addiction worsened. Reagan explained that he enjoyed his childhood,

protections in contracts which are negotiated away from business premises (OJ 1985 L 372, pg. 31,
hereinafter the directive ). The main question was if the directive could be relied on in preceding s

June 30th 1989 Recreb went to the Giudice Conciliatore di Firenze asking for them to step in and
order Miss Faccini Dori to pay, with interest, the agreed upon amount that was in the contract.
November 20th of the same year a judge ordered payment of Miss Faccini Dori. Miss Faccini Dori
then objected to the order stating she had already removed herself from the contract following the
directives instructions on how to do so. Italian law at the time had not yet taken steps to intergrade the
directive into national law even though the time in which they were given to implement the directive
into their national law was December 23rd 1987 and had already expired. The directive was not
implemented until March 3rd 1992 with the addition of the adoption of another legislative act. Since
the directive had not been transposed into national law during the material time of the claim the
national court was indecisive if the directives provisions could be ultimately applied. The national
court then referred the question to the Court for a preliminary ruling. One of the two questions it
referred to the Court was if the provisions in the directive dealing with cancellation are unconditional
and sufficiently suffice. In this regard The Court stated that Article 1(1) says the directive applied to
contracts made with a consumer when the trader, who is providing goods and services, had
independently organized to do business outside of its business premises

would need to find the IPO with this model would be a discount rate and some more information from
the other companies that have gone public that Goldman Sachs can be compared to. This is why this
model does not work well in order to find the IPO for Goldman Sachs. All of the numbers will be

Antony And Cleopatra Comparison Analysis
In Antony and Cleopatra, Shakespeare shifts from praising Antony as a great warrior to condemning
him by depicting the gradual decline of his honor and image in order to show his inner battle between
reason and emotion. This is an apparent theme in both the book and the play, though there might be
some small differences, both shows how this inner battle defeats him and leaves Cleopatra with most
of the power. One thing that I noticed is that Cleopatra seemed far more regal in the book than in the
play. For example, in the book when Antony wants Scarus to kiss her favoring hand (205), he makes it
sound like a big honor that he is able to do this. In addition, the way he describes her makes me
imagine that it is a regal and important moment. In the play, however she does a little dance after he
kisses her hand, which to me seemed like she was acting inappropriately and taking away the
importance of the moment. It is almost as if she was undermining what the warrior had done. She
made what should have been a serious and honorable moment and turned it into a joke. Even though
Antony loves Cleopatra his rational side takes over when he decides to marry Octavia in order to show
his loyalty to Rome. He knows that his duty is to Rome and it is where he is supposed to be and the
people of Rome are not happy about all of the time he has been spending in Egypt. To fix this and
mend their bond Antony agrees to marry Caesar s sister Octavia. This mend is shown when Caesar
says that the

To Succeed One Must First Dream in Looking Backwards by...
Set in the late 19th and early 21th century, Looking Backwards is a utopian novel discussing the
advantages of socialism, a political philosophy that many disenchanted intellectuals of the 19th
century believed in. Edward Bellamy, the author, is included in that class of intellectuals. By being
transported to the modern day, Julian West, the protagonist, is able to contrast the two societies he has
lived in: the capitalistic 19th century and the utopian, socialist 20th century. Julian West, a member of
the aristocratic class in Boston, lives an enchanted life among societies most wealthy members. He
doesn t have to work much at all, and he is due to be married to Boston socialite Edith Bartlett.

Dumbfounded, Julian thinks his friends are playing a joke on him, but Dr. Leete, one the strangers,
confirms that he is really in 2000. To convince Julian, Dr. Leete shows him a glimpse of modern day
Boston. Mr. West is amazed at the grandiosity and cleanliness of the new Boston. Wondering how
modern day Boston came to be, Julian asks Dr. Leete why, and he explains that the government has
consolidated all industries into one industrial army. With the consolidation, social harmony and
equality ensued. The reason for the momentous change in society was that, They [19th century poor]
believed that the great corporations were preparing for them the yoke of a baser servitude than had
ever been imposed on the race, servitude not to men but to soulless machines incapable of any motive
but insatiable greed. (Page 30/180) Bellamy emphasizes that the change was a rational and rather
simple evolution in humankind. After this complete upheaval in the socio economic systems of the
United States, hunger and poverty were eliminated, efficiency in the industrial system was maximised,
and citizens were enabled to choose whatever profession they so choose and earn the same amount of
pay as their neighbour. Also, Dr. Leete explains that money is no longer needed as it was a only a
function of the old, capitalist system. Instead, workers are given credit cards that have holes that can
be punched out of them. Once one is

The Fear Of Public Speaking
I ve always felt that public speaking is something that has come pretty natural to me. It was
throughout high school and again in college that I realize not everyone felt the same way. I found that
many people often dread public speaking. In college, it was really exemplified this first semester when
I heard that many people had to take a course called Communications 103, which primarily focuses on
writing and giving speeches. It didn t take this course this semester, so all I knew about it was what I
had heard through my peers. Some had a similar outlook on public speaking and said they didn t mind
having to give speeches, but others nearly had panic attacks leading up to them. It was this mixed
opinion on speeches that made me question why this happens, if there is a way to alleviate the fear,
and if a fear of public speaking is an actually thing.
In Ellysa Gonzalez s journal article Professional Speaker to Give Lecture at Tech about Public
Speaking , she explains how public speaking anxiety or the fear of public speaking, is a real thing. In
trying to explain how exactly this fear exists, Gonzalez explains it is partly because of the human need
to feel accepted . In the journal Gonzalez explains that this fear s technical name is glossophobia . It is
also among the top five most common fears (Gonzalez). After identifying that this is an actual fear
driven by the possibility of one not being accepted by those around them. Gonzalez s article goes on to

The Woman Warrior Summary
In Maxine Hong Kingston s The Woman Warrior , in chapter 2 White Tigers Kingston says that
Chinese immigrants say things such as better to raise geese than girls . They also say Chinese
executed women who disguised themselves as soldiers or students, no matter how bravely they fought
or how high they scored on the examinations . I argue that in doing this, the texts suggest shockingly,
that Chinese immigrants continue to treat woman as if they are worthless, which is why Maxine Hong
Kingston compares herself to Mulan. She just wants to honor her family and feel accepted. Kingston
wants to honor her family once and for all. In order to do so, Kingston completes fifteen years of
training. At the age of fourteen she wants to save her Brother and Husband but her mentors tell
Kingston she is not ready to fight, that she is too young. What was so intriguing about this situation
was when Kingston said When I could point at the sky and make a sword appear, a silver bolt in the
sunlight, and control its slashing with my mind, the old people said I was ready to leave . This shows
that the sword flying in the air represents Chinese culture. Kingston then continues to say I saw the
baron s messenger leave our house, and my father was saying, This time I must go and fight , taking
her father s place. Kingston then pretends to be a man, becoming a great warrior, wearing male armor
and commanding men who fight under her. What was most shocking

Impact Of Technological Advancements On The Battle Of The...
A) Plan of Investigation:
To what extent did technological advancements contribute to the victory of the Allied powers in the
Battle of the Atlantic through 1939 1946?
The Battle of the Atlantic lasted from September 1939 until the defeat of Germany in 1945; it was
recalled to be the longest continuous military campaign. In the duration of six years; a glorified battle
consisting of naval warfare, German U boats, warships and Italian submarines were pitted against
Allied convoys which aimed to transport military equipment and supplies across the Atlantic to Great
Britain and the Soviet Union. This battle was executed to essentially gain control of Atlantic shipping

 Aircrafts were very effective in protecting merchant ships; however, the problem was that Allied
planes use earlier in the war did not have enough range to offer air cover or the convoys all the way
across the Atlantic. The Mid Atlantic Gap is recognized as a geographical term associated with an
undefended area beyond the reach of land based Costal Command antisubmarine aircrafts during the
Battle of the Atlantic. Indeed this central area was known as the Black Pit as that was where many of
the heaviest and largest convoy losses occurred.
 The introduction of the new long range planes helped reduce the hazards of this dangerous portion
of battle. Avro Lancaster was a British four engined bomber which was implemented in warfare during
the Battle of the Atlantic of the Second World War used by the Royal Air Force. It was first active as a
strategic bombing offensive, and then became the main heavy bomber used by the RAF and RCAF.
The Lancaster took upon the role of a long range anti submarine patrol aircraft and air sea rescue. It
was also used as an aerial mapping resource to figure out where German U boats most commonly
attacked, hence figuring out where they usually place, with this information the Allies were able to
strategically place counterattacks. The Avro Lancaster also carried passengers and delivered weapons
to Britain and the Soviet Union.

Self Delusion In Macbeth
Macbeth, a play Shakespeare wrote late into his career is one that describes the tyrannical portrayal of
Scottish commander Macbeth as well as his nearly infinite greed and lust for power, his final days,
and the reign of justice in the end. One particular scene that stood out during the play is Scene Four of
Act Three, the celebration that Macbeth and the Lords hold in honor of Macbeth s new throne of
power. While both Roman Polanski s and Rupert Goold s variations of the famous play portray this
scene, it can be spoken, and quite explicitly that is, that Goold has created an excellent display of the
beginning of Macbeth s spiral into insanity and self delusion.
When perceived in detail, it can be observed that the moment when Macbeth first acknowledges
Banquo s ghost coming to haunt him for his deeds, the moment when Macbeth s sanity starts to slip,
only then can one truly see the directors line of thought. Beginning with (3.4.50) and leading up to
(3.4.107) the difference becomes quite apparent, and what can be noted is that while Polanski s
version of Banquo s ghost is intended to give the audience an immediate shock, his form moving with
hostility, pale and lifeless, surrounded by blood and gore, fire in eyes. On the contrary, Goold instead
chose to use the feelings that an unsettling and eerie atmosphere invokes in order to convey this
crucial point in the plot. Polanski s ghost immediately begins moving towards Macbeth as if preparing
to unleash a bloody vengeance,

Metaphors In Sinners In The Hands Of An Angry God
Throughout the Eighteenth Century, religion fought a battle against science and those who
did not stand with the church were not looked at as ethical people. In the sense that they could not
possibly be good people if the did not live for God instead of themselves. Atheists were not the only
group of people who were disliked even Quakers and Jews who did not share the same God were
looked down upon. Jonathan Edwards made the message clear in his sermon that those who did not
go to church and live for God were enemies of God. The church and its followers started to make the
idea known to others that God would send them to hell for entirety unless they came back to God as
quickly as possible and repented. In his famous sermon Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God .
Jonathan Edwards puts fear in all those who do not follow the word of God by talking about hell and
the punishment that unrepentant humans deserve. His metaphors including those about hell, the wrath
of God and the unworthiness of humans is successful in scaring the unrepentant to turn back to God
and as for forgiveness.
In one metaphor Edwards creates a clear image for his congregation when he explains that
unrepentant sinners are like heavy lead plunging toward hell without the help of God.
Edwards writes, Your wickedness makes you as it were heavy as lead, and to tend downwards with
great weight and pressure towards hell; and if God should let you go, you would immediately sink and

• What Are The Differences In Athletic Administration...
Cayman Belyea
Midterm
1. What are the differences in athletic administration between interscholastic and recreational sport
programs? What is the importance of having a mission statement in any sport program?
There are many differences between interscholastic and recreational sports programs. The first big
difference is the affect that school work and grades affect your participation. In a recreational sports
program, they are not looking at your grades to see if you are doing well enough to continue to play.
Whereas with interscholastic sports you must maintain a certain GPA, you are required to attended
class, along with other stipulations that they may have from a program. An athletic director is
responsible for making sure that students that are participating in the interscholastic events are
maintaining the requirements that they must meet. With the recreational sports program the athletic
director most likely hires someone to organize the events and that s about all the athletic does with
recreational sports. Another difference between interscholastic and recreational is that some people
who are participating in interscholastic sports are getting scholarships towards their education. Making
sure that the students are following those specific guidelines to keep their scholarship is something
that and athletic director must keep track of. With recreational sports an athletic director doesn t have
to worry at all about it. Overall an athletic director doesn t have

give it a good twist. If that does not work, insert the spoon in between the lip of the cap and the jar

Tip #3
Here is another tip to open that most stubborn jar. Take a cloth, a rubber glove or even a dryer sheet.
Put it over the lid and give it a good twist. The item that you choose will give you a better grip,
making it easier to get the jar lid off.

Tip #4
Another great tip that I have learned over the years is to take the jar, turn it upside down and smack
the bottom with your hand. This will loosen any air pockets or stuck food making the difficult jar

Tip #5
One of my favorite tricks to open a jar that is being so stubborn, is to take a tennis ball and cut it in

Downsize In The Workplace Case Study
You must develop a plan to downsize 15% of your employee population. Identify the steps you must
take.
The first step to take in planning for a downsize in an organization is letting all temporary employees
go and then move on to the regular part time employees. This is the logical and fair way to handle
inevitable layoffs. It is unfortunate for the individuals affected, however, this I the most reasonable
way to handle this issue. Next step would be to ask for any volunteers and advise there will be an
incentive involved. This can include severance pay for a specific amount of time to include

What federal, state, regulatory guidelines must be considered when downsizing?
A determination should be made if the WARN Act applies to the organization and if it does, then
adhering to the guidelines set forth in the act. This is the Worker Adjustment and Retraining
Notification Act, enacted in 1988, requiring employers to provide a 60 days notice if they employ 100
or more employees. There are exceptions and circumstances to this act in which the employer should
have knowledge of as well. When the WARN Act is instated for an organization, the representatives of
the employees are required to be informed in a timely manner. Consequently, the state or designated
entity by the state and the chief elected official of the local government where the plant closing or
mass layoff is occurring are required to be informed in a timely manner as well (Managing
Downsizing by Means of Layoffs, 2015).
The equal employment opportunity laws are to be obeyed by the organization. Some of these laws
include the ADEA (Age Discrimination in Employment Act) and the Title VII of the Civil Rights Act
of 1964. Each state has law charts that include laws that employers are held accountable to. It is
always beneficial for the organization to obtain legal counsel to ensure that they are following the laws

There are many different stages of sleep such as N1, N2, N3, and REM sleep. N1, N2, N3 are known
as Non REM sleep. There are two kinds of sleep which are REM AND NREM, or Non REM sleep.
Sleep is recorded using a polysomnography and brain wave activity is measured using an
electrocephalograph. It is said that you will spend 32 years of your life sleeping. In the first stage of
sleep known as N1 or transitional sleep, you will be in a light sleep. If you wake up during the N1
stage you will not believe that you have fallen asleep. This stage you can also have visual events
called hypnogogic images or hallucinations. They say that this may explain why people think that they

During this stage your body temperature will drop, your heart rate will slow down, and breathing will

known as N3. This is the stage where the deepest sleep occurs. When awaken during this stage you
will be very confused and disoriented. In this stage growth hormones are excreted from the pituitary
gland. This is why they say children sleep harder than adults because they are growing. When brain
waves are measured in this stage they are delta waves. In the final stage of sleep called R or REM
sleep but also known as Rapid Eye Movement sleep, you will have to progress back through stage N2
to get to REM. In this stage the body temperature rises to a near waking level, eyes begin to move

this stage will seem more vivid and life like. You can also experience sleep paralysis. This stage

Estrangement in Joseph Conrad s Amy Foster and in Rebecca West s The Return of the Soldier
The concept of male estrangement in an alien environment is portrayed in both Joseph Conrad s short
story, Amy Foster, as well as in Rebecca West s book, The Return of the Soldier. First, there are
adverse reactions to the male protagonists placement in their environments. The reactions vary
between the protagonists and the people they come into contact with. Second, there are similarities
and differences between the way the two authors chose to explore the situations presented. Third, both
protagonists handle their estrangement differently. It is hard to behave appropriately when you are

Reflection Paper On Rock Climbing
Reflection Paper #3 During Week 3, we started our day on the bad side due to the lack of sleep, and
the change of weather. Throughout the day our energy level improved as the day went on. The field
activity for the day included rock climbing. Discussion of group dynamics, rock climbing technique

Group Dynamic The group dynamic was really off since the morning started. Everyone was gloomy
and sleepy. I know that I personally slept for four hours the night before . Which leads me to almost
thought about just coming to class two hours late just because of how unmotivated my mindset was at
the time. Even in the group setting, it was not just me who was low on morale, it was everyone in

what we went through that day. When it came to lunch time, people were feeling better due to having
food in our system, and the active hand on cooking hlep made us more active. With food in our

children (Gabriel, Thomas, Margaret, Susan, Nathan, Samuel, and William) and an ex warrior who
fought against the British army during the Revolutionary War, while carrying the burden of a parent. It
is filled with clash of ideals, where Benjamin s priority to save his children from experiencing the
bitter taste of war met with the reality that his country needed him to act.
The story began with Benjamin s return to his hometown. The members of the family were introduced
one by one. The situation between the Continental Army and the England government was revealed to
be getting more complicated each days, as the town s people were being forced to pick side for the
upcoming war. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Lord Cornwallis retreated to another area, only to be completely defeated later, indicating the falling
action of the story. He went back to his village along with his children and Charlotte to start their life
over, marking the resolution of the movie.
The Patriot is situated in at least three different archetypal settings. The first one is the
underworld/hell, as can be seen from the battlefield, where the blood of the innocents were spilt. The
next one is the garden, which is pictured as Benjamin s village, after the war is over. And the third one
is the castle, which the slaves village that Benjamin s family ran to fit the image of.
We can also conclude the symbol that can be derived from the movie is the national flag of the United
States of America. It can be seen from the battle scene when the Continental Army was pushed back
by the Great Britain Army. Benjamin took over the flag from one of the retreating soldier and
continued to fight, gained the upper hand of the fight and ended up winning the war. The flag here can
be interpreted as the symbol of power, courage, and

The Extermination Camp At Chelmno Concentration Camp
During the Nazi Holocaust, multiple working and death camps were created to hold the captured Jews.
While the Jews lived in this camp, they were tortured, mistreated, worked to death and eventually
were put to death by either execution by firearm or were put into a death camp which exterminated the
Jews using poison gas. The Nazi Party had developed many death camps in the central european area
including the 6 death camps of Poland; Auschwitz, Treblinka, Belzec, Chelmno, Sobibor, and
Majdanek.
Little has been published on Chelmno due to its significance as the first extermination camp to
become operational death camp. Chelmno concentration camp was established in November 1941 and
was exclusively used for the executions of Soviet prisoners and Jews, most of whom were Polish. The
extermination camp at Chelmno demands special attention, because during the German occupation
only a very few people in Poland ever knew of its existence and the hundreds of thousands of its
victims. Chelmno introduced the most deadly phase of the Holocaust. Its victims were from 36
communities in western Poland, along with 88 children from Czech town whose population was
decimated as a collective reprisal for the assassination of Reinhard Heydrich in May of 1942. The
facilities at Chelmno included three gas vans and two crematoria. Gassing at Chelmno began on
December 8, 1941 just hours before Pearl Harbor was struck by Japanese planes. By June of 1942,
Chelmno has produced 20 gas chambers from

Freedom Writers Movie Analysis
The movie, Freedom Writers, created in 2007, and directed by Richard LaGravenese, is an exceptional
movie about a class at Woodrow Wilson High School that was involved in gang violence in the early
90 s. The class s teacher, Erin Gruwell, changes their lives and shows them that life is not all about
gangs. Additionally, she has her class write in journals that later on get published into a book; the class
titles the book, Freedom Writers. Throughout the film, LaGravenese does a superb job of displaying
the students stories in a way that plays with one s emotions. Furthermore, LaGravenese also delineates
Gruwell s ability to change the students lives. Overall, this is an excellent movie because it shows how
a single person can make a difference, and how people can overcome the most horrific hardships. The
film is set in Long Beach, California, in the early 90 s, and is focused on Erin Gruwell, a new english
teacher at Woodrow Wilson High School. Erin was excited to teach, however her first day did not go
as well as she hoped. The students in her class are extremely rowdy and apathetic towards learning. As
the days go on, Erin tries different ways to try to relate to the kids to teach them. Nevertheless, the
kids were still unwilling to learn because they had no respect towards Erin. Eventually, Erin learns
that the kids do not even know what the Holocaust is. Additionally, Erin also purchases journals for
her students; she wants her students to write their own personal experiences in them, and gives her
students the option to let her read them. Most of them decided to do so. When Erin reads the journals
she learns about the horrific tragedies a lot of the students have had to face. This makes Erin more
passionate about her job, and makes her want to teach her students even more, so she decides to take
them on a field trip to a Holocaust museum. The field trip had a huge impact on the students, and
made them more driven to learn. As the year progresses, the students have more respect for Erin. Erin
has her students read the diary of Anne Frank; the students were so moved by the novel that they
fundraise to get the woman who housed Anne Frank, Miep Gies, speak at the school. After sometime,
Erin has her

Rhetorical Analysis Of Why Bother By Michael Pollan
In the article Why Bother by Michael Pollan, the author addresses the issue of climate change and
what we as individuals can do. Pollan starts by making the primary assertion that it is up to each
individual to change their habits of mind to curtail the current climate crisis. He believes that by the
simple act of gardening it will severely help the situation at hand. During the course of Pollan s article
he gives many examples of what he believes we are doing wrong and how we can change. Through
the use of many different rhetorical strategies he is able to support his case very effectively. Pollan
clearly states the situation and purpose of his article, along with minor and major claims to support his
ideas. The situation laid out by Pollan is a very scary premise. He portrays a world that will no longer
be recognizable to us in the not so distant future. In paraphrasing NASA scientist James Hansen Pollan
says, We have only ten years to start cutting not just slowing the amount of carbon we re ... Show

Notably his biggest claim is that Climate change is at its very bottom a crisis of lifestyle of character,
even. (Pollan par. 6). He believes that individual can make a difference because the way each person
lives in modern times is to blame for the current crisis. We as people are too lazy and want to wait for
others to change things for us instead of being proactive in our approach. Pollan claims that if each of
us make a change in ourselves, others will see the changes and emulate them. Theoretically, this
would cause a domino effect where people would set an example for other people . So what is it that
Pollan claims is the perfect solution for climate change? Simply plant a garden. Pollan asserts the
notion that if people grew their own food this alone would have a great impact on both the climate and
personal outlook of

Vaccines Cause Autism Spectrum Disorders
Some parental concerns persist that vaccines may cause Autism. Multiple hypotheses have been
proposed throughout the years. There is a major worldwide increasing rate of Autism diagnoses.
Theories have centered on measles mumps rubella vaccine, thimerosal, and the large number of
vaccines being administered. Studies have showed that there is no link between receiving vaccines and
developing Autism Spectrum Disorder. An Institute of Medicine in 2001 did a report on eight different
vaccines given to children and adults found that rare exceptions, these vaccines are very safe. In 2013,
another study added to the research stating that vaccines do not cause Autism Spectrum Disorder.
Many vaccine averse parents argue that while vaccines might ... Show more content on

Autism is not an immune mediated disease. There is no evidence of immune activation or
inflammatory lesions in people with autism. No studies have compared the incidence of autism in
vaccinated, unvaccinated, or alternatively vaccinated children. Twenty epidemiologic studies have
shown that neither thimerosal or MMR vaccine causes autism. There have been studies in many
countries by different people who have tried multiple statistical methods. A meta analysis of ten
studies involving more than 1.2 million children reaffirms that vaccines don t cause autism.
Immunization was associated with decreased risk that children would develop autism, a possibility

Northwood’s Park Middle School in Jacksonville
Ok so the beginning of my eight grade year at Northwood s Park Middle in Jacksonville. The student
board got the whole class together for a trip to Kings Dominion in Deswell, Virginia. We did a bunch
of fundraisers because aint nobody have the money like hat. But anyway we had just got a new
principle and she wanted everybody to bond so we planned this trip. I remember seeing the big busses
you know with the TV s and bathroom. It was off the chain; that was the first time any of us was about
to ride in one and everybody was ready. Before leaving Jacksonville we stopped to Wal Mart so
everybody could rack up on what they wanted so we wouldn t have to stop but for gas or something.
After everybody got done getting what they wanted we got ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

I knew at that moment I was going to die and there would nothing me or anybody else could do. After
all I was strapped down like my life depended on it and now I know why. God why did I let my
friends convince me to go on a ride they had just built. We were all most to the very top and I was on
the 1st row. My life started flashing before my eyes and I looked to my friends and told them that I
loved them and sorry for beating some of them up. And that if I didn t make it to tell my mom s I
loved her too. All they did was laugh but I was dead serious I don t want to die like that you know.
Here we go the clicking stopped and we were about to go down at a 90 degree angle; I m looking at
death straight in the face. The man on the intercom says we should all should stretch our arms out like
were flying. I think I was probably the only one on the stupid ride that didn t have their arms out. No
mine were locked on my little hand bar; my hands started hurting I was holding it so tight. Down we
go and I swear I was cussing in Swahili, English, pig Latin all that. We went into all types of swirls,
back up, went up then did a batman turn and it put us on our back and we were looking at the sky. I
hated it so much but that wasn t nothing compared to what I was about to go through. We were just
cruising but something to me to look up ahead. There was this tunnel and then it takes you under

Ethical And Ethical Issues Of Business Ethics
The work of setting a positive ethical climate starts at the top of the organization as positive ethical
attitudes filter down to employees. Ferrell et al. (2015) states, the more employees perceive an
organization s ethical culture to be the less likely they are to make unethical decisions (p.134).
Business ethics is not only about knowing what is right and wrong, or doing the right thing, ethics
involves acting with responsibility, being objective when making decisions, putting honesty in all
relationships, and maintaining employees fairness. According to Hughes, Ginnet, and Curpy (2012),
conflict over values can arise even when an organization has clearly published values because leaders
and employees have divergent perceptions of whether the leader s behavior embodies important
corporate values (p.177). Unfortunately, GM s ethical organizational culture has been seriously
disconnected from the policies stated in their company. In the past GM s culture has favored cover up
over openness and legal contemplation over customer safety. The values embedded in GM s
organization were not put into practice. Product defects were concealed from top management as well
as the public, not only hurting General Motor s reputation as a quality customer driven culture, but
also the owners of GM vehicles who were injured or died. A culture of secrecy seemed ingrained at
General Motors, which can be blamed on former CEO leaders, the organizations structure, and

Hiatal Hernia Essay
A hiatal hernia occurs when the upper part of your stomach pushes up through your diaphragm and
into your chest region. The actual cause of hiatal hernias is unknown. There are two types of hiatal
hernias, fixed and sliding. This condition mostly occurs in people who are over 50 years old. It can
affect up to 60 percent of people by the time they turn 60 years old.
Causes
The exact cause is unknown. The diaphragm is a muscle that lies between the abdomen and chest that
helps you breathe. The stomach lies below the diaphragm. In most people injury may weaken muscle
tissue which can make it possible for the stomach to push through the diaphragm. Another cause can
be putting too much pressure repeatedly on the muscles around the stomach. Examples are coughing,
vomiting, straining during bowel movements, lifting heavy objects, obesity, aging, smoking, and
slouching while sitting.
Types of Hiatal Hernias
There are two types of hiatal hernias, sliding and fixed. A sliding hernia is the most common type of
hiatal hernia. It occurs when the area where the esophagus meets the stomach and slides up into the
chest through the hole in the diaphragm. A fixed hernia, also called ... Show more content on

Treatment plans are individualized depending on the severity of symptoms. If there is complications,
weight loss, lifestyle and dietary changes, and not smoking are put into place. Medications may also
be prescribed for heartburn and indigestion. If necessary, hospitalization and surgery are in plan for
severe cases. People should not worry about having a hiatal hernia.
To summarize, hiatal hernias can range from being barely if noticeable at all to requiring surgery and
generally consist of part of the stomach moving up into the thoracic cavity. Hiatal hernia (HH) is a
defect in the diaphragm that allows movement of the distal esophagus and a portion of the stomach

Analysis Of The Movie Juice
Aristotle was an ancient Greek philosopher and scientist that laid much of the foundation for Western
philosophy. He was a person who sought out explanations that were unorthodox. His principles of
common sense were built on naturalism and self realization, which greatly influenced the world. His
systematic concept of logic touched upon ethics. As an illustration, in the movie Juice, some of
Aristotle s beliefs and principles on friendship, character, and happiness are heavily portrayed
throughout the film. The movie Juice, is a story of four male teenage friends from Harlem. They re
causing trouble around the neighborhood and running away from their responsibilities to gain respect;
or what some may call the juice. Earlier in the film, a group of males confronted them on the street
with a gun. Ever since, the antagonist Bishop, Tupac Shakur, has the mentality of, Do you respect me,
or do you respect my gun? The answer is: You don t have that gun, there s no way we re having this
conversation. Ultimately, Bishop obtained a gun and wanted to get the juice by holding up the local
corner store. On the other hand, the protagonist Q, Omar Epps, is an aspiring DJ who wants to make it
out of his circumstances. He didn t want anything to do with the stick up and focused on a DJ contest
at a local club. However, Bishop took on the revenge, eat or be eaten mentality, and pestered them into
coming along. An unexpected twist in the plot is apparent when the store owner

The Edible Woman By Margaret Atwood And Mrs. Dalloway Essay
There are several different types of Narration and narrator roles in narratives, with each having a
different effect upon the novel. However, each of these different narrator and narration types have
their own advantages and limitations in regards the narrative. Each role, ranging from first to third
person, has its own unique advantages, including the personal insight into a characters, which can be
found in first person, to the understanding of several different points of view, as seen in third person,
and so on. Each role contrasts the other, exploring the novel, and understanding the characters, in
different ways to produce a different effect within the novel. Some of these contrasting, and differing
elements, can be found in The Edible Woman by Margaret Atwood and Mrs Dalloway, by Virginia
Woolf, where there is shown a clear difference between one narration style and another. These can
range from first person and third person narrator, a shifting and alternating narration, as can be seen in
Atwood s The Edible Woman, to 3rd person omniscient narrator, , and an indirect interior monologue
narration style, as can be seen in Mrs Dalloway by Woolf. Each text provides a different insight and
perspective into a narrative form, from narrator roles to Narration type, that helps bring the story to
life for the audience of the novel, and each has its own limitations and advantages to do with telling
the story.

Numbers In Hinduism
Chapter 11: The Importance of Numbers in Hinduism
The scriptures state that numbers ranging from 0 to 10 have a symbolic importance for Hindus. They
are associated with some of the key principles and gods of the religion. According to historical
records, the Hindus developed the number system so they can systematically arrange their knowledge
regarding the gods and the theories of creation. This chapter will provide you with some examples as
to how numbers were used in Hindu ceremonies.
Thousands of years ago, Indian citizens were so religious. They worshipped and prayed to different
gods on a daily basis. They believed that the ultimate goal of a person s existence is to attain freedom
from the repetitive cycle of births and deaths. Also, they thought that withdrawal from the society and
abandonment of responsibilities were never needed to establish a relationship with the divine beings.
Happiness and wealth were important for Hindus but they didn t consider these as goals. They focused
their time and effort on achieving freedom from the illusions created by Maya. In order to attain this
liberation, they lived their lives and performed their tasks without any hint of passion. They consider
the gods as their saviors, guardians, guides, and witnesses. Because they needed to present their
knowledge about the divine in an understandable manner, they invented the concept of ... Show more

Praxis And Girls On The Run
Throughout this course, I have always come back to the same idea: praxis. It was a difficult concept
for me to initially understand. I blindly believed that those who are protesting and trying to bring
about change are already educated. I had a blanket understanding of the idea of praxis, but it was not
until we started the praxis assignment that it made sense. Going into it, I believed that what we were
doing was truly intersectional; after all, we were providing transportation so more young girls could
have access to Girls on the Run. But reflecting on my experience now that I have learned more about
intersectionality, I look at this experience as only a starting point. I can now reflect on the fact that the
program is only beginning to make efforts to become more intersectional and has a lot to improve
upon. Once I applied the concepts from class to the work I was doing, I finally understood what praxis
meant. I have learned that praxis is constantly evolving, and as it does, it is important to reevaluate the
initial objective and make efforts to improve and expand it. Low income families experience unique
challenges. They often do not have access to necessities, let alone their wants. Programs like Girls on
the Run are great and could really help these low income girls, but these are the girls who are likely
unable to participate in the program. Although the walking school bus is a step in the right direction, it
is not all that is needed to provide greater access to

  • 2. Swot And Pest Analysis Of Michael Kors s Parent Company INTRODUCTION: This assignment sets out that I have to do a SWOT PEST Analysis. Involved in the assignment is the following:  State the Company I chose and why?  Outline the Company s purpose  Draw and Evaluate an Organisational Chart  Do a SWOT PEST and State the impact it had on the company.  Detail how the company should adapt and change because of the SWOT PEST.  Make appropriate conclusions and recommendations I chose the company Michael Kors Holdings Ltd; this is a private limited company. I have chosen this company because I have always had a love for his designer watches and fashion but to think about how popular the company has gotten so quickly over the past few years is incredible and I m hoping this assignment will show me a bit of how he did it and why it happened so quickly. Political:  Government Stability Michael Kors Parent Company is based in the US, and they have other companies based in China and parts of Europe. But the US government stability is the most important one because if the US goes down, the rest go down. The US government is very stable after the Shutdown in 2013. They don t want another report of that again, because the company didn t know if they were going to survive it. Economical:  European Debt Crisis/Chinese Economic Bubble Just as Michael Kors looks to expand his brand to the rest of the world, the European Debt Crisis struck. This became an extreme threat to his company. When an economy takes a downturn people aren t spending money the way they used to in the Boom time. During this time, Michael Kors had to find a way to market products at an affordable price. This is when the Michael Michael Kors brand was introduced. This emphasizes that the brand is high quality yet has a cheaper ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Criticism Of Karl Marx s Ideas Of Capitalism Bertrand Russell once expressed that advocates of capitalism are very apt to appeal to the sacred principles of liberty, which are embodied in one maxim: The fortunate must not be restrained in the exercise of tyranny over the unfortunate (Russell). Even in a relatively capitalist society, there are always criticism regarding the capitalism and its disregard for the unfortunate and the tyranny the fortunate exert over. The foremost proponent of this antagonism would be Karl Marx, who claimed that capitalism is ultimately hurtling toward its downfall. The basic premise of the capitalism that Marx denied was as thus: in the modern industrialisation inevitably creates a bipartisan system, in which the bourgeoisie, or those who are the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This, in turn, would create a dissention from the proletariat and lead to an uprising. Marx actually predicted that the first ones to have revolution would be the more industrialised countries. Marx never addressed the actual capitalism we face today in his Das Kapital. Instead, he proposed a setting of ideal capitalism, in which there are no monopolies, no unions, no special advantages for anyone. It is a world in which every commodity sells at exactly its proper price. And that proper price is its value (Heilbroner). The value is defined as the amount of labour it took to create that certain merchandise. This obviously has a flaw, as if products were traded at its true value there would be no margin of profit. The margin is produced via the discrepancy of the labour value and the value of the actual labour performed; that is, if a labourer needs six hours of labour to survive at the rate of one pound a day, the labourer would actually work for eight hours while being paid for only six hours. This is because a labourer can only ask for what is due by his subsistence; he can only ask for six pounds a day, because that is all he needs to survive. The capitalist, by owning the means of production, can force the terms into ten our eleven hours as opposed to six, while ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Gothic Horror Stories Essay Unlike The Red Room and The Monkey s Paw, the setting of The Telltale Heart is not significant to building up suspense; however there are a few elements that do. How is tension and suspense built up and maintained in at least two Gothic horror stories? The genre of Gothic Horror was developed during 19th and early 20th century and had a popular appeal to the new middle class people who sought entertainment. Gothic Horror has common characteristics of suspense, fear and would often include a rational, scientifically minded character who fails to heed warnings. Gothic horror tales often have exotic and mythical influences. The night and the unreassuring lack of light play a big part in adding to the hellish imagery. One ... As the old man pleads with his wife For God s sake don t let it in The reader is left to imagine the horrific sight of Herbert with the remnants of his grave on his disfigured body. The trail approaching the tracks in The Signalman is a zig zag descending path . Tension is increased by the description of the writers descent towards the rail way track [the path] became oozier and wetter as I went down . This gives the reader the feeling of sluggishness; the image slows the story down and thus increases the suspense. Unlike The Red Room and The Monkey s Paw , the setting of The Telltale Heart is not significant to building up suspense; however there are a few elements that do contribute to the uneasy atmosphere. Like The Red Room the story is told in the first person. However, the protagonist in The Red Room is logical and rational, yet naïve: I can assure you... it will take a very tangible ghost to frighten me this gives a warning to the readers that something horrific will happen. His view that that the mystery of the red room can be explained rationally reflects the time H.G.Wells was writing in: modernity was concerned with replacing belief in magic and ghosts with scientific knowledge. Tension is built by putting such a modern man in a setting with sinister old people whose lives are affected by the irrational. The narrator of The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Kelley Outbreak The Kelly outbreak is a famous phenomenon in Australia s colonial history. Whilst some people prefer to see the outbreak as a simple criminal incident between an outlaw and the police, most historians view it as a broader sociological phenomenon, involving conflict between a larger rural community and the colonial authorities. An important issue for historians has been to understand the underlying causes of this criminal outbreak, whether it was mainly due to personal, ethnic or socio economic factors. This essay will critically examine each of these explanations and argue that the actions of the Kellys and their supporters, and the reactions of the police can best be understood in terms of broad socio economic developments in rural ... Evidence from the period strongly supports such a view. The region was first occupied by squatters during the late 1830s and 1840s, and was largely settled by 1847. By 1850, several villages were established, there were good seasons and high wool prices .... 14 Between 1860 and 1880 several land reform laws were introduced, intended to halt the monopoly of the squatters by creating a new rural class from the diggers now experiencing diminishing returns on the goldfields. These laws made available small freeholds of pastoral land for selection by any man or (single) woman over the age of eighteen.... 15 This effort to make land available to the new rural classes proved a failure however. The government s and the selectors knowledge of agriculture, shaped by the European experience, proved largely to be inapplicable to Australia .. 16 In addition, selection was opposed and obstructed by the squatters who used their superior knowledge of land conditions, political and financial influence, and evasion of certain regulations of the Land Acts to amass large holdings of premium land, leaving poorer land to selectors. ... 17 This situation caused hardship and poverty among selectors, and stock theft became an increasing problem as the selectors sought to supplement meagre food supplies and income with stock stolen ... • 8. Why Boomerangs Come Back Why do boomerangs come back? When I was young, I thought boomerangs were magical. I wasn t sure if they actually worked in real life, so I decided to make my own to test the idea. I took a pizza box, cut out a boomerang shape from it, and threw it. It didn t come back. I tried again and again, but I couldn t make it work. I was bewildered as to why my boomerang didn t come back! As it turns out, I had constructed it incorrectly. I thought a boomerang was just a flat, v shaped piece of material, and my design was way off. But before we get into that, let s learn a little bit about the history of the boomerang. Considered by many to be the earliest heavier than air flying machine invented by man, boomerangs have been around for more than ten thousand years. Australia is known for having developed the boomerang, but the tool had widespread use throughout the ancient world. In ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is the question we will explore in my paper. Boomerangs come back because, as I learned as a young child, they are more than just oddly shaped sticks. The shape and structure of the wings and the way they are joined together at the center are essential to their ability to turn in mid air and come back to the thrower. Contrary to what you might think, boomerangs aren t designed to work as a single piece of wood. They are made up of two or more carefully shaped wings that are connected at the center. Each of these wings is designed to maximize (or increase) lift on one side. What is lift? , you might ask. The easiest way to explain the idea of lift is to compare a boomerang wing to an airplane wing. If you look at the picture below, you will see that an airplane wing is curved along the top and flat along the bottom. This is the reason these massive machines can stay in the air: The air that goes over the wing as the plane flies has to move faster than the air that goes below the wing in order for them to move past the wing at the same ... He taught Peekay an eight punch combination making him one of the few kids his age able to do so. Geel Piet met Peekay when he went to visit Doc at the Barberton Prison, where Geel Piet was imprisoned. Since Geel Piet was of mixed descent, he was treated poorly by the warders in the prison. Geel Piet died on the night of Doc s concert at the hands of Captain Borman. Geel Piet lay face down, as though he had fallen, his arms stretched out to either side of him. His head lay in a pool of blood where he had hemorrhaged from the nose and mouth. Doc was a German professor that took Peekay under his wing. He was kind and very patient, for he taught Peekay most of what he knows. Despite his many adventures with Peekay, Doc was aging and almost at the point of death. As people tend to grow up, we get to know the feeling of attraction and being in love towards the opposite sex. Open relationship is an interpersonal relationship where both parties agreed to be together but can develop relationships to other partners as well. We alter our recollections from the past, where we felt unhappy, ashamed angry or emabarrassed, in order to feel good with our past decisions and actions. To test our hypothesis, we will use the Experimental method, where we use scientific research. This is the most helpful method when it comes to determining causal relatons. In addition, we will be using basic research, as we are finding out why certain individuals behave the way they do and it is out of the researcher s curiosity. The independent variable in this case is the satisfaction rate of open relationships, while the dependent variable is monogamous relationship. Without questioning, one of the most influential incidents happened during this period of time was Hong Kong s reunion with China in July 1997; it transformed Hong Kong from a colonial dependent territory to a Chinese administration region. The local Hong Kong people felt disoriented of their futures and many of them came to the question of their national identities; it is because the different political and educational system between Hong Kong and China makes the local Hong Kong people feel differentiated from the mainland Chinese people. Zhao Hong, starring Siqin Gaowa, plays a submissive housewife who gains her legal status in U.S. after married to an American citizen, Thomas. Although her husband and she are able to make a decent living in Manhattan, however, she is barely coping with strange Western ways. The other two actresses in the leading role are Sylvia Chang and Maggie Cheung. Sylvia plays as an aspiring actress and Maggie Cheung plays an ambitious successful business woman. These three women meet at a diner, which Maggie owns, and their friendship forges on since then. One of the most important themes has been portrayed in this movie is the cultural conflicts between the Western and Eastern culture. This epidemic is a major concern in public health yet many countries are failing to address the issue. The purpose of this paper is to discuss the causes contributing to this increasing epidemic of childhood obesity. • 14. The Pros And Cons Of Flag Burning On August 22, 1984, Gregory Lee Johnson was arrested for setting the U.S. flag on fire. His simple act of protest led to the Supreme Court ruling that flag burning is protected under the First Amendment as free speech, thus overturning his conviction. The flag symbolizes freedom, and part of that freedom is being able to express dissatisfaction with the government. However, some see flag burning not merely as a demonstration of opinion, but as an attack on national unity and American values. Should it be illegal to burn the U.S. flag as an form of protest, or is this method within the rights of American citizens? Concerning the outcome of Texas v. Johnson, Justice William Brennan delivered the opinion of the court: If there is a bedrock principle underlying the First Amendment, it is that government may not prohibit the expression of an idea simply because society finds the idea itself offensive or disagreeable. Flag burning may be offensive to loyal Americans, but it is not threatening enough by itself to justify punishment. Brennan also stated that we do not consecrate the flag by punishing its desecration, for in so doing we dilute the the freedom that this cherished emblem represents. In Johnson s case, the Supreme Court valued constitutional principles rather than patriotic preferences. The Supreme Court s stance on flag burning has remained the same since. Nevertheless, thirty years after United States v. Eichman, there is still controversy over whether or not it should be legal. A recent example of the present discussion on flag burning is a tweet made by President Donald Trump in 2016: Nobody should be allowed to burn the American flag if they do, there must be consequences perhaps loss of citizenship or year in jail! Every president of the United States has a unique story, but Reagan possessed many remarkable characteristics. Today, many people recognize Reagan as a former president, but few know about the struggles he faced and his success before presidency; his political party transition, handling economic fluctuation, and his attitude throughout his terms in office made him an unforgettable political figure. • 20. Antony And Cleopatra Comparison Analysis In Antony and Cleopatra, Shakespeare shifts from praising Antony as a great warrior to condemning him by depicting the gradual decline of his honor and image in order to show his inner battle between reason and emotion. This is an apparent theme in both the book and the play, though there might be some small differences, both shows how this inner battle defeats him and leaves Cleopatra with most of the power. One thing that I noticed is that Cleopatra seemed far more regal in the book than in the play. For example, in the book when Antony wants Scarus to kiss her favoring hand (205), he makes it sound like a big honor that he is able to do this. In addition, the way he describes her makes me imagine that it is a regal and important moment. In the play, however she does a little dance after he kisses her hand, which to me seemed like she was acting inappropriately and taking away the importance of the moment. It is almost as if she was undermining what the warrior had done. She made what should have been a serious and honorable moment and turned it into a joke. Even though Antony loves Cleopatra his rational side takes over when he decides to marry Octavia in order to show his loyalty to Rome. He knows that his duty is to Rome and it is where he is supposed to be and the people of Rome are not happy about all of the time he has been spending in Egypt. To fix this and mend their bond Antony agrees to marry Caesar s sister Octavia. This mend is shown when Caesar says that the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Wondering how modern day Boston came to be, Julian asks Dr. Leete why, and he explains that the government has consolidated all industries into one industrial army. With the consolidation, social harmony and equality ensued. The reason for the momentous change in society was that, They [19th century poor] believed that the great corporations were preparing for them the yoke of a baser servitude than had ever been imposed on the race, servitude not to men but to soulless machines incapable of any motive but insatiable greed. (Page 30/180) Bellamy emphasizes that the change was a rational and rather simple evolution in humankind. After this complete upheaval in the socio economic systems of the United States, hunger and poverty were eliminated, efficiency in the industrial system was maximised, and citizens were enabled to choose whatever profession they so choose and earn the same amount of pay as their neighbour. Self Delusion In Macbeth Macbeth, a play Shakespeare wrote late into his career is one that describes the tyrannical portrayal of Scottish commander Macbeth as well as his nearly infinite greed and lust for power, his final days, and the reign of justice in the end. One particular scene that stood out during the play is Scene Four of Act Three, the celebration that Macbeth and the Lords hold in honor of Macbeth s new throne of power. While both Roman Polanski s and Rupert Goold s variations of the famous play portray this scene, it can be spoken, and quite explicitly that is, that Goold has created an excellent display of the beginning of Macbeth s spiral into insanity and self delusion. When perceived in detail, it can be observed that the moment when Macbeth first acknowledges Banquo s ghost coming to haunt him for his deeds, the moment when Macbeth s sanity starts to slip, only then can one truly see the directors line of thought. Beginning with (3.4.50) and leading up to (3.4.107) the difference becomes quite apparent, and what can be noted is that while Polanski s version of Banquo s ghost is intended to give the audience an immediate shock, his form moving with hostility, pale and lifeless, surrounded by blood and gore, fire in eyes. Atheists were not the only group of people who were disliked even Quakers and Jews who did not share the same God were looked down upon. Jonathan Edwards made the message clear in his sermon that those who did not go to church and live for God were enemies of God. The church and its followers started to make the idea known to others that God would send them to hell for entirety unless they came back to God as quickly as possible and repented. In his famous sermon Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God . • 29. • What Are The Differences In Athletic Administration... Cayman Belyea Midterm 1. What are the differences in athletic administration between interscholastic and recreational sport programs? What is the importance of having a mission statement in any sport program? There are many differences between interscholastic and recreational sports programs. The first big difference is the affect that school work and grades affect your participation. In a recreational sports program, they are not looking at your grades to see if you are doing well enough to continue to play. Whereas with interscholastic sports you must maintain a certain GPA, you are required to attended class, along with other stipulations that they may have from a program. An athletic director is responsible for making sure that students that are participating in the interscholastic events are maintaining the requirements that they must meet. With the recreational sports program the athletic director most likely hires someone to organize the events and that s about all the athletic does with recreational sports. The class s teacher, Erin Gruwell, changes their lives and shows them that life is not all about gangs. Additionally, she has her class write in journals that later on get published into a book; the class titles the book, Freedom Writers. Throughout the film, LaGravenese does a superb job of displaying the students stories in a way that plays with one s emotions. Furthermore, LaGravenese also delineates Gruwell s ability to change the students lives. Overall, this is an excellent movie because it shows how a single person can make a difference, and how people can overcome the most horrific hardships. The film is set in Long Beach, California, in the early 90 s, and is focused on Erin Gruwell, a new english teacher at Woodrow Wilson High School. Erin was excited to teach, however her first day did not go as well as she hoped. The students in her class are extremely rowdy and apathetic towards learning. As the days go on, Erin tries different ways to try to relate to the kids to teach them. Nevertheless, the kids were still unwilling to learn because they had no respect towards Erin. Eventually, Erin learns that the kids do not even know what the Holocaust is. Additionally, Erin also purchases journals for her students; she wants her students to write their own personal experiences in them, and gives her students the option to let her read them. Most of them decided to do so. When Erin reads the journals she learns about the horrific tragedies a lot of the students have had to face. This makes Erin more passionate about her job, and makes her want to teach her students even more, so she decides to take them on a field trip to a Holocaust museum. The field trip had a huge impact on the students, and made them more driven to learn. As the year progresses, the students have more respect for Erin. • 44. Ethical And Ethical Issues Of Business Ethics The work of setting a positive ethical climate starts at the top of the organization as positive ethical attitudes filter down to employees. Ferrell et al. (2015) states, the more employees perceive an organization s ethical culture to be the less likely they are to make unethical decisions (p.134). Business ethics is not only about knowing what is right and wrong, or doing the right thing, ethics involves acting with responsibility, being objective when making decisions, putting honesty in all relationships, and maintaining employees fairness. According to Hughes, Ginnet, and Curpy (2012), conflict over values can arise even when an organization has clearly published values because leaders and employees have divergent perceptions of whether the leader s behavior embodies important corporate values (p.177). Unfortunately, GM s ethical organizational culture has been seriously disconnected from the policies stated in their company. In the past GM s culture has favored cover up over openness and legal contemplation over customer safety. The values embedded in GM s organization were not put into practice. They are associated with some of the key principles and gods of the religion. According to historical records, the Hindus developed the number system so they can systematically arrange their knowledge regarding the gods and the theories of creation. This chapter will provide you with some examples as to how numbers were used in Hindu ceremonies. Thousands of years ago, Indian citizens were so religious. They worshipped and prayed to different gods on a daily basis. They believed that the ultimate goal of a person s existence is to attain freedom from the repetitive cycle of births and deaths. Also, they thought that withdrawal from the society and abandonment of responsibilities were never needed to establish a relationship with the divine beings. Going into it, I believed that what we were doing was truly intersectional; after all, we were providing transportation so more young girls could have access to Girls on the Run. But reflecting on my experience now that I have learned more about intersectionality, I look at this experience as only a starting point. I can now reflect on the fact that the program is only beginning to make efforts to become more intersectional and has a lot to improve upon. Once I applied the concepts from class to the work I was doing, I finally understood what praxis meant.
