The Roman Republic
For Centuries the Roman Republic was ruled over by some twenty families of Patricians , these
families represented the upper crust of society, a society which prided itself on the continuation of the
family line. This system was threatened by the ideology of novitas which people achieved glory not
from there illustrious family history, but through merit. Cato the Elder and Gaius Marius were not
born of noble stock and thus represent two of the best examples of novus homo in action.
The Roman Republic s system was heavily stacked against a novus homo from the period of 200BC
100BC only 29 Consuls were of Plebeian background, which alludes to the fact the having a good
family genealogy, would undoubtedly benefit one political career. The Scipionic epitaph of Scipio
Baratus details the successes of a great Roman, who s honour and bravery, as well as his occupation of
the Aedileship, and the Consulship ultimately helped spring board the career of his son Lucius
Cornelius Scipio . From this we can see that fama, gloria, and a good family background greatly help
ones political ambitions, Marius and Cato both came from a Plebeian background of which Marius
took pride in going as far as accusing the aristocracy of bitterness by despising him since he reached
the Consulship without family connections or glory. There might have been jealousy, and envy
amongst the aristocracy that there rightful place was being usurped by an outsider a Pleb
Novitas developed

Psychological Theories Of Crime
There is great debate over the reasons why people are driven to commit a crime. Numerous theories
have been developed to attempt to explain the motives that cause people to act out against family or
even strangers. There is particular attention given to the motivating factors to those who chose to
commit mass murders in the country because of the great media attention given to them. For example,
school shootings are covered extensively in the media and tend to be more well known compared to a
simple bank robbery, assault, etc. Thus, experts and everyday citizens tend to have an interest in the
psychological state of the shooter at the time of the crime and what caused him/her to act out in such a
way. One example of this is found in the Sandy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
nurture. For a Criminal Justice 1010 class at the University of Nebraska at Omaha, Professor Elizabeth
Keller Charbonneau put together a lesson on the different theories of crime. One of the individual
level crimes in the lesson was considered Psychology: A mental illness or personality disorder causes
people to commit a crime (Keller Charbonneau, 2015). This applies to Adam Lanza, as pointed to in
the Frontline video. Without explicitly stating that Lanza was driven by his illness, it was greatly
implied. In the video special, the reporters focus on Adam s childhood and his interactions with his
mother and peers. The video states that Adam was diagnosed with a sensory integration disorder in
which he had problems with change and people touching him. This is explained in an interview with
Marvin Lafontaine in the Frontline video. Lafontaine was a friend of Nancy Lanza, and also has a son
the same age as Adam. The two were in Boy Scouts together and during one interaction, he
remembers Nancy telling him not to touch Adam (Koughan, 2013). This seemed out of the ordinary,
but it was because Adam had sensory issues, which was later diagnosed. Along with this, Adam had
issues with change, and this escalated when his family moved to Newtown, Connecticut. Adam began
school at Sandy Hook Elementary School and was described as shy and uncomfortable in big settings
(Koughan, 2013). He didn t really mingle well with the other children and Nancy worried about him,
but didn t take much

Did you know the first lighthouse was built in Egypt it was about 450 feet high? It was also one of the
seven wonders of the ancient world but it was destroyed and they never built one like it again. The
first lighthouse built in America was at Boston on little Brewster Island (1716). George Worthy Lake
the first keeper, he died with his wife and daughter when returning to the island in 1718. The original
tower was destroyed by the British and rebuilt in 1718. The oldest lighthouse that hasn t been rebuilt is

Arguments Against Interracial Adoption
Interracial adoption has long been a contentious issue even among devoted adoption supporters.
Parents who chose to take these children help them escape life in foster care. Adoption is a permanent
obligation that impact the whole family, especially your adoptive child. It is important to look past the
lovable faces and think through the ups and downs of interracial adoption. Before the 1940 s it was not
acceptable for white parents to adopt a child of a different culture? During this time, efforts were made
to place children with adoptive families with the same skin color and religion. Then in 1944 the Boys
and Girl Aid Society noticed a growing number of minority children waiting for adoption. This group
focused on the children of all ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Supporters of interracial adoption have argued that interracial empowers the community at large just
by their presence. They build consciousness of how people of different races can mix and relate
positively to each other. In addition, studies have shown that children s self esteem, adjustment, and
the capacity to form bonds were not adversely affected by their adoption. Still, parents should be
aware that children of a racial minority group develop their sense of ethnic identity differently. Parents
need to make sure their children are showing proper and positive environments. Last but not least,
racism is a problem adoptive parents cannot avoid. However, they should openly discuss that there
will be people that dislike them simply because of the color of their skin. Parents will not be able to
protect their child at all times, but steps can be taken to protect the child. For instance, stopping Uncle
Joe from coming to Thanksgiving because you know that he makes off colored jokes that will hurt you
and your child. To a move to a community where there is a mix of cultural

The Causes Of Organized Crime In Italy In The 18th Century
Crime figures show that Italy is ranked the 4th highest total crimes amongst the EU states in 2002.
Their total is 2.2 million crimes behind the UK(6.52 Million), Germany(6.51 Million) and France(3.8
Million). This means globally they have the highest percentage of crimes, which is 24.5% of its
population. (Italy Crime Stats) In the 18th century, organized crime in Italy and its criminal
organizations have infiltrated the social and economic life of many regions particularly in Southern
Italy. Sicilain Mafia is suposedly the most notorious. They say that this would later expand into some
foreign countries including the United States.
There are five mafia like organizations that are known to Italy and they are: Cosa Nostra of Sicily,
Ndrangheta Of Calabri, These two are considered to be the biggest cocaine mugglers in Europe, and
Camorra of Naples, are the oldest of five, having started development between 1500 and 1800. When
the 20th century came about there were two new organizations that came about, Stidda and Sacra
Corona Unita of Apulia.(Organized)
With all of the above being said there should be some type of way that we can make sure that the
cocain is not being sumggled into these places. Man y crimes in the US are the same as Italy, the way
they are handled are very different. The FBI refers to the gangs listed above as Italian Organized
Crime (IOC). FBI has estimated that with all the four groups together they have around 25,000

College Sports Transition
With every beginning to an individual s sports career, there has to be an end. Most player s careers end
after their four years of playing a high school sport. Although many high school players want the
opportunity to play sports in college, most are unaware of the increased workload required to play a
college sport.
When a high school player thinks about continuing their career to play college sports they often
imagine the transition into college as being uncomplicated. Once an athlete begins their career into
college they are shocked to find out the transition is far more complicated than they anticipated. One
reason why this transition into college sports is more difficult is because of talent. For example, an
athlete with a greater talent ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An athlete must realize that he or she is expected to perform just as well in academics as they do in
athletics. Many athletes do not consider the struggle of juggling a college sport and taking classes full
time. Although it is important for the athlete to do their best in sports, it is also important to keep a
good GPA and focus on school. Many coaches push this because without having a 2.3 GPA an athlete
cannot play. While the players are going from only playing the sport for a few months out of the year
to playing it year round, athletes struggle to find the time in their schedules to balance academics and
athletics. Another negative effect for an athlete transitioning from high school to college is being away
from home. This effects the athlete tremendously because this is often the first time an athlete has to
experience what it is like to be away from their family. Because college sports require more input
from the athlete than it did in high school, the athlete has to spend more time at college working to
improve in their sport. Due to the extra work that has to be put in to the sport, the athlete does not get
to go home on the weekends often. As a result, an athlete should consider the negative effects that the

Causes of American Poverty and Possible Solutions Essay
Poverty is not a simple issue. You cannot ask a question about poverty and get one universal response.
There are many conflicting ideas about what poverty is, and more importantly, where it comes from.
The make up of American society shows that so much in life can depend on one s family. Having
opportune circumstances can land people jobs, but having the opposite can also perpetuate the
depression and reality of poverty for others. When people have reasons not to seize their days, they
might sink deeper and deeper into the belief that they cannot truly escape poverty. People need to have
the proper assistance to breakaway from poverty and lead successful lives. Poverty in America is
largely due to the government s overcompensation of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This money would be so much better spent on education or self help programs. Services that have the
future of the poor in mind are where government benefits need to be attached. If poor children can be
the first in their family to obtain a legitimate education, they can help turn their family around. The
furthering of these children s education can lead to financial aid in college and a job upon graduating.
New generations of young people attaining an excellent education can inspire other children in similar
situations. Again, this requires a proper allocation of support. Conversely, according to Schiller
(2008), the Flawed Character theory, Sees individuals as in full control of their socioeconomic status
(p. 66). This over generalized statement should not be properly attributed to poor children in desolate
living conditions. Being a poor individual does not mean you are permanently stuck there, but it can
hinder your development. Children are not seemingly in full control of their status when they are told
by their parents to live off the government. This ideal could make children more than likely to heed
this ill advised lesson. Children being brought up on the belief that less effort is better would be a true
testament to the ineptitude of this system. On the other hand, with money being spent on young people
for education, the control of their lives increases much more. The belief that being poor will deny any
opportunities can be greatly

Taking a Look at Progeria
Infirmed aging is having a condition of weakness or illness that usually lasts for a long time and is
caused especially by old age. Progeria is the severe disease of the infirmed aging branch and is
defined as a progressive genetic disorder that causes children to age rapidly, beginning in their first
two years of life. Progeria only affects one in eight million people in the world. The term Progeria is
gathered from the Greek word geras, meaning old age. Children with progeria usually don t show any
signs when they are birthed but in a year or so their growth rate starts to slow down. Children who are
affected by progeria develop a non identical appearance characterized by baldness, a small pinched

Every moment, second, minute, hour, and day go by you get older. You cannot stop aging no matter
what you do. It is something that everything that lives does.
The older you get the more medical problems you have. The older you get the more you body starts to
break down. That s why it is so important to maintain a healthy life style while you are growing. If
you didn t take care of your body while you was young it will be hard to maintain good health when
you are older. Eating the right foods, staying active, and taking vitamins are three simple steps to
keeping the body in good shape. When you are young you do want to live in the moment, but that is
only because it is human nature. You are supposed to learn from you mistakes while you are taking
chances each day. If you want your body to age healthy you already know what you have to do.
It takes an older person a long time to build their immune system as well as heal bones like younger
people. Because of the aging of the body when an old person fall it takes longer to recover and some
older people don t recovery from their falls. Which leaves them handicap and people would have to
check up on them daily. Older people have more things to worry such as getting around on their on,
having medical bills all the time, and feeling lonely. Infirmed again has a lot to do with the mental,

Working With The Elderly Population
Reminiscing to 2010, when I was faced with my grandmother s illness during the adolescent years in
my life I knew that I had a passion to care for the elderly (aging) population. From this passion, it
ignited a fire so strong that I pursue my certified nursing assistant certification to gain a better
understanding of working with the elderly population. By doing so, it has been a great benefit to my
life; aging is an inevitable experience that we all will go through during our life. It is important to
ensure that our elderly individuals are still able to enjoy the best quality of life after retirement.
However, as we age, there will be a lifestyle change that the aging population must encounter. Instead
of relying on income from previous occupation, the elderly population, income will fixate, resulting in
dependency on their 401k saving plan and other government related programs to assist with activities
of daily living. This is why I choose to work with this population, to ensure that dignity, worth, and
respect of a person is maintained. However, the aging population should not feel that they are being
treated as a burden by the government or their families. In the United States, we undermine our aging
population by treating them as though they are not of any value. In reference to this mistreatment
towards the aging population can cause issues such as unemployment, health, and elder abuse. Social
justice is about assuring the protection of equal rights, and

Little Boxes
I agree with the theory of Little Boxes, I too thought this song had a lot to do with the way American
society was taught to grow up. I wonder where the Rules of growing up where established, like who
original set forth the correct way society was to grow? Still to this day the ticky tacky concept of
building track homes is used and depending on the culture you are brought up in, college, home,
marriage, and then a family is still a traditional way of thriving. Are we living the way we want or the
way our parents want us to live? Again, depending on your upbringing will determine whether you

the Government construct a similar program today? Would you not consider that to be slavery,

The Pros And Cons Of Sun Based Pokemon
Sun based Pokemon are better than Moon based Pokemon in design, abilities, and execution. By
Jeramie Fisher The sun and moon have always been a constant presence and source of inspiration for
human beings, ranging from deities to simply providing warmth and a beautiful sight to see. Humans
have always had opinions, some stronger than others, and today that topic will be discussed in
reference to a popular video game series, Pokemon. Now in order to keep opinions from being too
broad and contradictory The subject will be focusing on the Sun based Pokemon against its
counterpart; because face it every Pokemon is weak to something and for the most part Pokemon
matches are decided by what someone brings to the table. Execution, which is by far the most factual
way to prove that Sun Pokemon are indeed superior to Moon Pokemon, is placing them directly
against each other in an actual fight without the aid of others and seeing who has the upper hand when

This was the first targeted therapy drug used to treat cancer. It was invented in the late 1990 s, to treat
chronic myeloid leukemia and gastrointestinal stromal growth . Imatinib is tyrosine kinase inhibitors.
Tyrosine kinase is a protein that cells use to signal to each other to grow (Iqbal and Iqbal, 2014, p.1).
It works by preventing a tyrosine kinase enzyme and therefore inhibits growth factor induced receptor
phosphorylation and blocks the PDGF/PDGFR and P13 k/Akt pathway (Kheradmand, et.al.2016,
p.83). According to Richardson (2010, p.679), the drug Velcade was also known as Bortezomib is
useful in the treatment of multiple myelomas. The main goal of this drug is to lower the tumor growth
significantly. The American cancer society (2013, para.20) studies show Bortezomib is a proteasome
inhibitor . It works by blocking or slowing down the action of proteosome is to break down protein in
both healthy and cancerous cells. When proteosome activity is blocked, proteins in the cells
accumulate. This accumulation may cause cells to stop growing and multiplying, and cause them to

The Health Records Of Healthcare
The health record has been around for many years, and it first started with a group of individuals in
the 1920 s to realize that documenting health care data provided better quality care. Healthcare
providers recognized that they were able to treat patients more accurately with a documented history
of the patients. It wasn t until the 1980 s that healthcare professionals started to venture out into the
computerized healthcare technology. In the 90 s technology was making gains and healthcare
continued to venture forward into the modern more computerized world of healthcare informatics.
One of the revolutionary feature of this era was the ability to get patients test results via computers,
the only downsize was that they were only attainable through that computer alone. That type of
information had no way of traveling though another computer. By the year 2000, a push to make
electronic records began due to the spike of patient death and injuries due to medical errors by
healthcare providers. In an article written in 2009 shortly after President Obama took office, it was
mentioned that President Barack Obama wanted to computerize the nation s health care records in five
years. But many concerns came with this notion such as money, time and specialized training. The
total cost of this health care initiative plan would cost at least $75 billion to $100 billion dollars over
next the ten years. They believed that one of the biggest costs in this plan would be training

Sugar And Acid Disorder Essay
Sugar and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder
Introduction
Sugar. What comes to mind when this word is heard? Candy? Juice? Close but not quite. Sugar is
contained in all of these but do you know what else has it? For example, starch, a carbohydrate found
primarily in plants, fruits, and vegetables, contains sugar. Starch is composed of glucose molecules.
Glucose links together using alpha glycosidic bonds to form starch. One of the main functions of
starches is to be used as an energy source. Didn t know that, huh? On another note, Attention Deficit
Hyperactivity Disorder, or ADHD, is a mental disorder characterized by inattentiveness, impulsive
behavior, and/or hyperactivity in young children. Many cases of ADHD are often misdiagnosed or

Jan Van Eyck Visual Analysis
There are endless works of art that surround each and every one of us that have always been enclosed
by mystery. Each person can interpret a piece in their own way, although, there is always some kind of
underlying meaning behind it. One of the greatest double portraits of the Netherlandish Renaissance,
is the Arnolfini Portrait, painted in 1494 by one of the most noteworthy northern European writers of
the Renaissance, Jan Van Eyck. The painting depicts a formal picture of a wealthy couple, Giovanna
Cenami and the patron of the work, Giovanni di Nicolao Arnolfini, joining hands in the bedchamber
of their Flemish home. Within this painting, Eyck uses the contrast of light and dark colors and

Jan Van Eyck above the mirror that says Jan Van Eyck fuit hic which translates to Jan Van Eyck was

have a greater visual reality of the room that is depicted, but it can be also seen as if the viewer is

has a large significance of adding the viewer into the space and simply creates some sort of connection
that the audience can create as if they are involved within the event that is taking place (Hicks). The

It is highly probable that when German Cinema in general is talked about, Metropolis (1927) is one of
the first titles to spring to mind. Fritz Lang is, in his career within and without Germany, a name that
evokes authority in filmmaking.
Premiering in Berlin with Halblutt in 1919, he would never imagine that one day his mind would craft
an epic of the calibre that is Metropolis. A primitive sci fi narrative with daring sets and expansive
cinematography, the magnitude of the film s editing is sheer magic, with well timed shots perfectly
placed to tell a story in silent configuration, yet with a charming expressiveness.
Also daring was its thematic structure, the telling of two lovers from distinct social classes who could

Alfred Hitchcock s True Sense Essay
There is a certain familiarity yet suspense while watching an Alfred Hitchcock movie. In true sense
Alfred Hitchcock was an Auteur. Alfred Hitchcock was a film director and producer, who at times was
also referred to as The Master of Suspense . He pioneered many elements of the suspense and
psychological thriller genres. He had a successful career in British cinema with both silent films and
early talkies and became renowned as England s best director. Hitchcock moved to Hollywood in
1939 and became a US citizen in 1955. The following essay, will, using the example of Alfred

group of films.
Images of staircases often play a central role in Hitchcock s films. In Vertigo, the staircase in the
church bell tower plays a crucial role in the plot. Scottie has Vertigo, and is afraid of heights. The
staircase in Vertigo play s 2 important roles in the movie; once when Scottie tries to climb the stairs

suicide [01:16:30] and once again in the end when he leads Judy aka Madeleine up the same stairs and
is finally able to concur his fear of vertigo [02:02:15]. In Psycho, several staircases are featured
prominently: as part of the path up to the Bates mansion, as the entrance to the fruit cellar, and as the
site of Detective Arbogast s murder. In The Birds, the camera follows

Officer Selection Process
Police officers offer civilians a sense of protection, guidance, and trust. As we make our daily
commutes in every day life, we look at these uniformed individuals as a symbol of safety and take
comfort in the idea that in the case of an unexpected turn of events, officers will be sufficiently
qualified to take initiative and adequately respond under stressful, dangerous, and complicated
circumstances. We, as civilians expect things to automatically unfold in this manner, but how then can
we be sure that these individuals are capable of handling such a delicate task? This module s case
study explores the experience of an applicant named Doug regarding the main components of the
police officer selection process, which include Screening and Evaluation, Written Exams, Polygraph
Examinations, Physical Agility Tests, Medical Examinations, Psychological Evaluations, Background
checks and Oral interviews, some of which may or may not be used at the ... Show more content on

I am interested in a career in policing and I believe that it is vital for everyone to go through this
rigorous process of selection so that only those deemed to be physically, mentally, ethically, and
emotionally fit by standard, are hired. In my opinion this will help to prevent harmful situations for
both civilians and police officers that derive from a lack of qualification. It will help select more
confident, decisive, rational thinkers. Additionally, having multiple examinations and tests
administered will help strengthen the trust between police officers and their respective communities
being that it would give civilians peace of mind knowing that officers had to undergo a very elaborate
process in order to obtain their present

Development Of Bilbo In The Hobbit
In The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien, the main character is a hobbit named Bilbo Baggins. As the story
progresses and we learn more about the characters, Bilbo acquires more leadership qualities as well as
problem solving skills. Bilbo is put to the test after the leader of the group departs. In J.R.R. Tolkien s
The Hobbit, the main character Bilbo Baggins demonstrates an immense development in character.
Before Gandalf arrived at Bilbo s home, Bilbo could be described as comfortable, laid back, and
stubborn. When Gandalf arrived at Bilbo s home, he begins to discuss finding someone to bring along
on his journey. Bilbo shows disinterest in this journey and states that adventures are nasty, disturbing
uncomfortable things (Tolkein, 4). After their discussion, Gandalf leaves ... Show more content on

and unhappy. He frequently thinks about giving up the adventure and returning to his home, as he
frequently thinks thing along the lines of his comfortable chair before the fire in his favorite sitting

Essay On First World Countries
First world countries contribute most to the problems of unsustainable development and thus they
should be responsible for resolving the issues caused by such developments, particularly when they
are still having an indirect impact in promoting unsustainable development and have resources
required to counter these problems. Researchers have proved that more than the increasing rate of
population in certain developing countries; it is the per capita negative impact that First world
countries are having on sustenance of the world environment that is responsible for the climate change
in the world. According to Environmental Research Letters, seven advanced countries are responsible
for 63% of the world s activities leading to global warming (Malone 2014). Though United States
emits most of the carbon and greenhouse gases but when evaluated based on national population UK
has the highest per person pollution levels. Recently some developing countries like China are
catching up in pollution emission with developed countries but yet again a large portion of these
emissions in transferred to the countries that consume these products produced in developing countries
(Matthews 2014). Thus as the paper states As a consequence, a substantial portion of recent emissions
from developing countries could be equally allocated to the developed countries that consume the
goods produced (Matthews, 2014, p.8). Despite this huge amount of historical contribution in large

A Comprehensive Analysis of the Rwandan Genocide to the...
Beginning on April 6, 1994, Hutus began a mass slaughtering of the Tutsis in the African country of
Rwanda. This mass slaughtering is labeled as genocide, the deliberate obliteration of an ethnic, racial,
religious, or political group. The Rwandan genocide lasted 100 days while other countries stood idly
by and watched the brutal killings continue. The hatred against the Tutsis began after the RPF invasion
in October of 1990. Accusations from editorials and radio broadcasts claimed Tutsis wanted to
establish a monarchy with Hutu slaves; other racial libel included all the Tutsis being called
cockroaches.
Many years prior to the Rwandan genocide, a similar deliberate extinction occurred. Between 1933
and 1945, members of the Nazi ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
George Stanton, the president of Genocide Watch, suggested genocide develops in eight stages that are
predictable but not inexorable (Mare, 2011). Stage one is classification where people are alienated into
us and them depending on ethnicity, nationality, race, and religion; in this case, German and Jew, Hutu
and Tutsi depict the mentality of the superior group. According to Mare, The main preventive measure
at this early stage is to develop universalistic institutions that transcend ethnic or racial divisions, that
actively promote tolerance and understanding, and that promote classifications that transcend the
divisions (2011).
Symbolization, the second stage, is used to classify these groups; names or symbols may be forced
upon reluctant members of the groups. For example, the Nazis used the yellow star to symbolize the
Jews; this symbol was worn on clothing or imprinted on Jewish establishments. A preventive measure
used to combat the symbolization is to outlaw hate symbols along with hate speech.
The next includes dehumanization, where one group establishes their superiority and rejects the
humanity of an additional group. Animals, insects, or diseases are normally equated with members of
the dehumanized group; case in point, the Hutus equated the Tutsis with cockroaches during the

Multiple Choice, Binary Choice And Matching Questions Essay
Multiple Choice, Binary Choice, and Matching Questions
My greatest strength in writing multiple choice, binary choice, and matching questions is creating
scenarios for the multiple choice. I enjoyed writing these scenarios by making up stories that are
related to the content. I was also good at keeping track of what we have and what we needed to do.
Another strength I had was in creating binary choice question because there is only one right answer.
My greatest weakness was coming up with good alternate choices for the multiple choice. I had a hard
time with this because the ones that I came up with were either too obvious, not homogeneous, or too
similar. Another weakness I had was creating matching because I found it hard to make them all
homogeneous. They were also hard to make because we had to come up with different responses that
were similar in order for the premises not to stand out.
My contribution to the multiple choice, binary choice, and matching questions was that I created many
of multiple choice questions this was because I enjoyed writing the scenarios. I also wrote some of the
binary questions. I also contributed to the group by helping and collaborating on the matching. I also
help by keeping track of what we had in terms of number of different types of questions and the
number of learning objectives.
I would rate myself a ten out of a ten on my contribution to the multiple choice, binary, matching
questions because I did my share of crating the number

While Franklin and Marshall College has numerous historic buildings, Shad Fack Library stands out

Inset into the the center of the pediment is the seal of Franklin and Marshall College, with two
cornucopias draping off from the central circle. Within the pediment there are ten parallel lines that get
increasingly short as the the raking sima comes to a point. Below the pediment is the geison which
rests on a row of vertical dentils. Below the dentils is the frieze with the name of the building, Shadek
Fackenthal Library centered and incuse. Within the architrave there is a raised molding delineating the
truncated architrave from the frieze. The frieze rests on a disproportionately small architrave, about ⅓
as large as the ideal Doric structure. The architrave is solely composed of two fasciae. Below the
fasciae is a Doric style abacus that is disproportionately wide and extends beyond the echinus. Below
the abacus is a rounded echinus which is also in the Doric style. Below the echinus there is a short
empty area that separates the echinus from the annulets. The annulets are comprised of two rings
which is a deviation from the ideal Doric structure. Going to the base of the column, there is a torus
with ⅓ the number of rings as the canonical Ionic structure and a rounded scotia that rests on the base.
Each column is tapered and rests on a square base that then is positioned on a cement block. The four

Additionally, many of our existing allies, mainly Canada have to be involved. Working closely with all
of whom have an interest will help to mitigate costs through cost sharing, elimination of redundancies
and to leverage strengths of each partner. The Arctic endeavor should truly be a joint effort as there are
major benefits to work across the public private divide as private companies are looking for economic
growth, others may be looking for scientific opportunities, but all need to ensure their security in the
region.
Identifying the parties is the easy part, aligning and leveraging their capability is the difficult part. As
per General Jacoby, We need to identify what we re missing that is needed to meet the requirements
for Arctic security and defense. Until we have a full understanding of the strengths and resources that
are being brought forth by the identified joint effort, we will not be able to align missions identifying
the opportunities and the threats that will prevent us from reaching them. It is imperative we create a
forum of where all parties identified can be brought together to perform the necessary evaluation to
meet the stated objectives. This is the time to set the tone and to remove (or at least manage) the FUD
factor, fear of uncertainty and doubt. We have to set the vision. The policy is well communicated and

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Demand Forecasts
Demand forecasting
Abstract:
1. Identify methods useful for predicting demand in various situations
2. Warn against methods that shouldn t be used
3. Guidelines and examples to improve efficiency of other organizations that don t use these methods
by adopting these forecasting practices.
It has been recorded that formal forecasts are prepared by firms because they have a written marketing
plan, the most popular among these firms is the sales forecast. A common mistake used by people is
that sales and demand acquire the same definition while in fact, demand and sales equate only when
sales aren t limited by supply. Sometimes it is appropriate to forecast demand directly, while other
times where uncertainty and changes are expected market ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

5) Judgmental decomposition: (no feedback)
It involves dividing the forecasting problems into parts that are easier to forecast than the whole, one
approach is breaking it down into multiplicative components. It has a number of advantages as it is
used when there is much uncertainty about the aggregate forecast, when large numbers are involved
and it has proven to be more accurate than those of global approach.
6) Judgmental bootstrapping: (no feedback)
It is a type of expert system which can be useful for repetitive complex forecasting problems when
historical data on the variable to be forecasted are lacking or of poor quality. It is more accurate the
aided judgment.
7) Expert system: (no feedback)
It is designed to solve complex problems by reasoning about knowledge by rules experts use to make
predictions, these rules are created from protocols.
Expert system is aided by: expert opinion, conjoint analysis, bootstrapping.
The rules used are from experts and empirical research. This method is expensive and used when
many similar forecasts are derived from the system.

Aftereffects Of The Las Vegas Shootings
I will be providing information from three articles. The three articles I have chosen are about the
shooter of the Las Vegas shooting on the country music festival that happened on the night of October
1, 2017. From what we have been told by the media, the shooting that happened during the concert
was from the Mandalay Bay Hotel window just across the street from the concert. The aftereffects of
the concert left about 500 people injured and almost 60 people killed, which includes himself. The
shooting has affected everyone in the United States because almost everyone is scared that it was a
terrorist attack and that there will be more closer to their homes. Some people think the shooter was
working alone and some people, such as the people that were attending, say that there was more than
just the shooter from the hotel. I will examine and analyze how the three authors have written about
the Las Vegas shooting. I will examine each author s credibility, the evidence that the author uses, and
logical and/or emotional points of the story. My essay will also include assessments on the potential
biases from the the Media Bias Fact Check site for the three article I have found.
In my first article, Police say they are trying to determine whether Las Vegas gunman acted alone by
Matt Pearce, Ruben Vives, and Richard Winton, LA Times, the author states that the police were
trying to determine whether the gunman of the Las Vegas shooting acted alone. The police had

How Stress And Stress Management
For this assignment I was asked to select a topic in which we have studied during the weeks of nine
through eleven. I have selected to explore Stress and Stress Management more in depth. In this
assignment I will explain what made me want to know more about it. I plan on telling you what you
should know about Stress and Stress Management. Lastly, I will discuss how Stress and Stress
Management relate to success in my personal and professional life. Stress can be defined as the
nonspecific response of the body to any demand made on it (Lamberton Minor, 2014, p. 288).
Selecting this topic was very easy for me because the past few days have been very stressful. I have
recently endured a stressful situation in which I have never encountered before. I recently interviewed
for a new position, and survived the stress of the interview process. Two weeks later I received a call
back offering me the position. This was great news, but the call came five minutes after I had arrived
to work for my twelve hour shift. After, the five minute conversation I accepted the offer, but
proceeded to tell her I would need to get back with her on the wage offer. The stress I felt in that
moment was positive. According to our text this form of stress is known as eustress. Eustress is a good
stress, not to mention it is desirable (Lamberton Minor, 2014). On the other hand, my mind raced as I
worked that day. The stress of a new nursing experience, the stress of turning in my notice, and the

CULTURALLY HUMILITY
PART I: Who am I? How do I identify myself? These two questions were the constant questions
running through my mind as I envisioned writing a paper about cultural humility. First step, define
cultural humility. Cultural humility, as I understand, is the ability for an individual to open their mind
and be willing to learn about and find acceptance in differences between cultural identities. Answering
the questions above and understanding the definition brought about some realizations within myself
that were never really addressed; some of the issues didn t really become clear until well into
adulthood. Before this assignment, if you ask me the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, the boys were viewed as that s just how boys are . The gender roles were clearly reflected

children and always remember that they were the moral compass of the family unit. My father is from
Yugoslavia. I have very early memories in childhood of knowing that I was a first generation
American. I am Croatian and this culture is huge on family. I remember being constantly at family

I actually believed that all of my neighbors were family members and all were Croatian. I didn t
realize that the neighbors or other people had different nationality and/or backgrounds until I was a pre

was exposed to Lebanese, Jordanian, Hispanic, German, Irish, and Korean culture from the time I was
a small child but I didn t know that the culture was different from being Croatian; I felt that it was the

  • 2. The Roman Republic For Centuries the Roman Republic was ruled over by some twenty families of Patricians , these families represented the upper crust of society, a society which prided itself on the continuation of the family line. This system was threatened by the ideology of novitas which people achieved glory not from there illustrious family history, but through merit. Cato the Elder and Gaius Marius were not born of noble stock and thus represent two of the best examples of novus homo in action. The Roman Republic s system was heavily stacked against a novus homo from the period of 200BC 100BC only 29 Consuls were of Plebeian background, which alludes to the fact the having a good family genealogy, would undoubtedly benefit one political career. The Scipionic epitaph of Scipio Baratus details the successes of a great Roman, who s honour and bravery, as well as his occupation of the Aedileship, and the Consulship ultimately helped spring board the career of his son Lucius Cornelius Scipio . From this we can see that fama, gloria, and a good family background greatly help ones political ambitions, Marius and Cato both came from a Plebeian background of which Marius took pride in going as far as accusing the aristocracy of bitterness by despising him since he reached the Consulship without family connections or glory. There might have been jealousy, and envy amongst the aristocracy that there rightful place was being usurped by an outsider a Pleb Novitas developed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Psychological Theories Of Crime There is great debate over the reasons why people are driven to commit a crime. Numerous theories have been developed to attempt to explain the motives that cause people to act out against family or even strangers. There is particular attention given to the motivating factors to those who chose to commit mass murders in the country because of the great media attention given to them. For example, school shootings are covered extensively in the media and tend to be more well known compared to a simple bank robbery, assault, etc. Thus, experts and everyday citizens tend to have an interest in the psychological state of the shooter at the time of the crime and what caused him/her to act out in such a way. One example of this is found in the Sandy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... nurture. For a Criminal Justice 1010 class at the University of Nebraska at Omaha, Professor Elizabeth Keller Charbonneau put together a lesson on the different theories of crime. One of the individual level crimes in the lesson was considered Psychology: A mental illness or personality disorder causes people to commit a crime (Keller Charbonneau, 2015). This applies to Adam Lanza, as pointed to in the Frontline video. Without explicitly stating that Lanza was driven by his illness, it was greatly implied. In the video special, the reporters focus on Adam s childhood and his interactions with his mother and peers. The video states that Adam was diagnosed with a sensory integration disorder in which he had problems with change and people touching him. This is explained in an interview with Marvin Lafontaine in the Frontline video. Lafontaine was a friend of Nancy Lanza, and also has a son the same age as Adam. The two were in Boy Scouts together and during one interaction, he remembers Nancy telling him not to touch Adam (Koughan, 2013). This seemed out of the ordinary, but it was because Adam had sensory issues, which was later diagnosed. Along with this, Adam had issues with change, and this escalated when his family moved to Newtown, Connecticut. Adam began school at Sandy Hook Elementary School and was described as shy and uncomfortable in big settings (Koughan, 2013). He didn t really mingle well with the other children and Nancy worried about him, but didn t take much ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Arguments Against Interracial Adoption Interracial adoption has long been a contentious issue even among devoted adoption supporters. Parents who chose to take these children help them escape life in foster care. Adoption is a permanent obligation that impact the whole family, especially your adoptive child. It is important to look past the lovable faces and think through the ups and downs of interracial adoption. Before the 1940 s it was not acceptable for white parents to adopt a child of a different culture? During this time, efforts were made to place children with adoptive families with the same skin color and religion. Then in 1944 the Boys and Girl Aid Society noticed a growing number of minority children waiting for adoption. This group focused on the children of all ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Supporters of interracial adoption have argued that interracial empowers the community at large just by their presence. They build consciousness of how people of different races can mix and relate positively to each other. In addition, studies have shown that children s self esteem, adjustment, and the capacity to form bonds were not adversely affected by their adoption. Still, parents should be aware that children of a racial minority group develop their sense of ethnic identity differently. Parents need to make sure their children are showing proper and positive environments. Last but not least, racism is a problem adoptive parents cannot avoid. However, they should openly discuss that there will be people that dislike them simply because of the color of their skin. Parents will not be able to protect their child at all times, but steps can be taken to protect the child. For instance, stopping Uncle Joe from coming to Thanksgiving because you know that he makes off colored jokes that will hurt you and your child. • 9. College Sports Transition With every beginning to an individual s sports career, there has to be an end. Most player s careers end after their four years of playing a high school sport. Although many high school players want the opportunity to play sports in college, most are unaware of the increased workload required to play a college sport. When a high school player thinks about continuing their career to play college sports they often imagine the transition into college as being uncomplicated. Once an athlete begins their career into college they are shocked to find out the transition is far more complicated than they anticipated. One reason why this transition into college sports is more difficult is because of talent. For example, an athlete with a greater talent ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... An athlete must realize that he or she is expected to perform just as well in academics as they do in athletics. Many athletes do not consider the struggle of juggling a college sport and taking classes full time. Although it is important for the athlete to do their best in sports, it is also important to keep a good GPA and focus on school. Many coaches push this because without having a 2.3 GPA an athlete cannot play. While the players are going from only playing the sport for a few months out of the year to playing it year round, athletes struggle to find the time in their schedules to balance academics and athletics. Another negative effect for an athlete transitioning from high school to college is being away from home. This effects the athlete tremendously because this is often the first time an athlete has to experience what it is like to be away from their family. Because college sports require more input from the athlete than it did in high school, the athlete has to spend more time at college working to improve in their sport. Due to the extra work that has to be put in to the sport, the athlete does not get to go home on the weekends often. As a result, an athlete should consider the negative effects that the transition from high school into college before making the decision of playing a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Causes of American Poverty and Possible Solutions Essay Poverty is not a simple issue. You cannot ask a question about poverty and get one universal response. There are many conflicting ideas about what poverty is, and more importantly, where it comes from. The make up of American society shows that so much in life can depend on one s family. Having opportune circumstances can land people jobs, but having the opposite can also perpetuate the depression and reality of poverty for others. When people have reasons not to seize their days, they might sink deeper and deeper into the belief that they cannot truly escape poverty. People need to have the proper assistance to breakaway from poverty and lead successful lives. Poverty in America is largely due to the government s overcompensation of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This money would be so much better spent on education or self help programs. Services that have the future of the poor in mind are where government benefits need to be attached. If poor children can be the first in their family to obtain a legitimate education, they can help turn their family around. The furthering of these children s education can lead to financial aid in college and a job upon graduating. New generations of young people attaining an excellent education can inspire other children in similar situations. Again, this requires a proper allocation of support. Conversely, according to Schiller (2008), the Flawed Character theory, Sees individuals as in full control of their socioeconomic status (p. 66). This over generalized statement should not be properly attributed to poor children in desolate living conditions. Being a poor individual does not mean you are permanently stuck there, but it can hinder your development. Children are not seemingly in full control of their status when they are told by their parents to live off the government. This ideal could make children more than likely to heed this ill advised lesson. Children being brought up on the belief that less effort is better would be a true testament to the ineptitude of this system. On the other hand, with money being spent on young people for education, the control of their lives increases much more. The belief that being poor will deny any opportunities can be greatly ... • 13. Working With The Elderly Population Reminiscing to 2010, when I was faced with my grandmother s illness during the adolescent years in my life I knew that I had a passion to care for the elderly (aging) population. From this passion, it ignited a fire so strong that I pursue my certified nursing assistant certification to gain a better understanding of working with the elderly population. By doing so, it has been a great benefit to my life; aging is an inevitable experience that we all will go through during our life. It is important to ensure that our elderly individuals are still able to enjoy the best quality of life after retirement. However, as we age, there will be a lifestyle change that the aging population must encounter. Instead of relying on income from previous occupation, the elderly population, income will fixate, resulting in dependency on their 401k saving plan and other government related programs to assist with activities of daily living. This is why I choose to work with this population, to ensure that dignity, worth, and respect of a person is maintained. However, the aging population should not feel that they are being treated as a burden by the government or their families. In the United States, we undermine our aging population by treating them as though they are not of any value. In reference to this mistreatment towards the aging population can cause issues such as unemployment, health, and elder abuse. Social justice is about assuring the protection of equal rights, and ... I wonder where the Rules of growing up where established, like who original set forth the correct way society was to grow? Still to this day the ticky tacky concept of building track homes is used and depending on the culture you are brought up in, college, home, marriage, and then a family is still a traditional way of thriving. Are we living the way we want or the way our parents want us to live? Again, depending on your upbringing will determine whether you follow in your parent s footsteps or you choose your own path. Would you not consider that to be slavery, because that s sort of what the Mexicans were in past? Working long hours, under harsh conditions, making low wages, and then shipped off when no longer needed. To me that would be modern day slavery. Would that help our current immigration situation? I would have to answer, No. For the simple fact that if we offered all the jobs to individuals outside of the US, where would the job opportunity be for Americans who are currently looking. By Jeramie Fisher The sun and moon have always been a constant presence and source of inspiration for human beings, ranging from deities to simply providing warmth and a beautiful sight to see. Humans have always had opinions, some stronger than others, and today that topic will be discussed in reference to a popular video game series, Pokemon. Now in order to keep opinions from being too broad and contradictory The subject will be focusing on the Sun based Pokemon against its counterpart; because face it every Pokemon is weak to something and for the most part Pokemon matches are decided by what someone brings to the table. Execution, which is by far the most factual way to prove that Sun Pokemon are indeed superior to Moon Pokemon, is placing them directly against each other in an actual fight without the aid of others and seeing who has the upper hand when facing off solo. Imatinib is tyrosine kinase inhibitors. Tyrosine kinase is a protein that cells use to signal to each other to grow (Iqbal and Iqbal, 2014, p.1). It works by preventing a tyrosine kinase enzyme and therefore inhibits growth factor induced receptor phosphorylation and blocks the PDGF/PDGFR and P13 k/Akt pathway (Kheradmand, et.al.2016, p.83). According to Richardson (2010, p.679), the drug Velcade was also known as Bortezomib is useful in the treatment of multiple myelomas. The main goal of this drug is to lower the tumor growth significantly. The American cancer society (2013, para.20) studies show Bortezomib is a proteasome inhibitor . It works by blocking or slowing down the action of proteosome is to break down protein in both healthy and cancerous cells. When proteosome activity is blocked, proteins in the cells accumulate. This accumulation may cause cells to stop growing and multiplying, and cause them to die and Sutent (Sunitinib) is a drug used to treat metastatic renal cell carcinoma. It is currently approved as a second line treatment of MRCC. Sunitinib inhibits the vascular endothelial growth factor receptor and stops the growth of tumors (Kolesar, et.al. 2008, pp.123 131). The Health Records Of Healthcare The health record has been around for many years, and it first started with a group of individuals in the 1920 s to realize that documenting health care data provided better quality care. Healthcare providers recognized that they were able to treat patients more accurately with a documented history of the patients. It wasn t until the 1980 s that healthcare professionals started to venture out into the computerized healthcare technology. In the 90 s technology was making gains and healthcare continued to venture forward into the modern more computerized world of healthcare informatics. One of the revolutionary feature of this era was the ability to get patients test results via computers, the only downsize was that they were only attainable through that computer alone. That type of information had no way of traveling though another computer. By the year 2000, a push to make electronic records began due to the spike of patient death and injuries due to medical errors by healthcare providers. In an article written in 2009 shortly after President Obama took office, it was mentioned that President Barack Obama wanted to computerize the nation s health care records in five years. But many concerns came with this notion such as money, time and specialized training. The Rwandan genocide lasted 100 days while other countries stood idly by and watched the brutal killings continue. The hatred against the Tutsis began after the RPF invasion in October of 1990. Accusations from editorials and radio broadcasts claimed Tutsis wanted to establish a monarchy with Hutu slaves; other racial libel included all the Tutsis being called cockroaches. George Stanton, the president of Genocide Watch, suggested genocide develops in eight stages that are predictable but not inexorable (Mare, 2011). Stage one is classification where people are alienated into us and them depending on ethnicity, nationality, race, and religion; in this case, German and Jew, Hutu and Tutsi depict the mentality of the superior group. According to Mare, The main preventive measure at this early stage is to develop universalistic institutions that transcend ethnic or racial divisions, that actively promote tolerance and understanding, and that promote classifications that transcend the divisions (2011). Symbolization, the second stage, is used to classify these groups; names or symbols may be forced upon reluctant members of the groups. For example, the Nazis used the yellow star to symbolize the Jews; this symbol was worn on clothing or imprinted on Jewish establishments. A preventive measure used to combat the symbolization is to outlaw hate symbols along with hate speech.
