Majoritarian And Effective American Voting System
Voting systems are the set of procedures that determine who will run our local, state, and federal
governments. These procedures include how the ballot is structured, how the vote is casted, how
the votes are counted, and how the winners are selected. Although there are a variety of ways a
voting system can be structured to enable citizen authorization of authority there are two dominant
votingsystems in Western democracies: plurality system and proportional representation. Douglas J.
Amy in (2000) and G. Bingham Powell in (2000) present a list of criteria that can be used to
determine which voting system is preferential. In this paper I will consider Accountability, High
Quality Campaigns, and Stable and Effective Governmentas the criteria for evaluating voting
systems, and evaluate the degree to which majoritarian and proportional representation systems
fulfill these criteria. In the majoritarian vision of citizen control, concentrated power is necessary.

In a majoritarian system, voters are able to easily identify which representative they should be
holding accountable when unacceptable actions are being taken. This is possible because the
majoritarian system uses single member districts in which members of the legislature are elected
one at a time in small districts (Amy 29). It also important to note that candidates are elected
based on who receives the most votes. This means that it is easy for constituents to not only
identify which representative was elected to serve them but to hold them accountable as well. The
same can be said about political parties, because of the two party system it is very likely that one
party will win the majority of the seats in the legislature, which means that voters will know who to
blame for unacceptable actions (Amy

The Modern Prometheus Essays
The Modern Prometheus
Did Mary Shelley initially title her work about Victor Frankenstein and his creation The Modern
Prometheus solely because of the glaring similarities between their stories? That is a question that
is often discussed, but a conclusion rarely arrives. One of the possible reasons for this could be
because there are many different interpretations of the Promethean myth, which are mainly based
on the ambiguous nature of the story. The parallels between the Promethean myth and Frankenstein
are obvious, and that, in combination with her subtitle, The Modern Prometheus, indicates that
Mary Shelley did have the myth in mind as she wrote the story.
One perception of Prometheus actions views him as a hero: the creator ... Show more content on

The ambiguity of the myth of Prometheus lies in its interpretation. The Greek myth surrounds the
creation of man and the part Prometheus played in it. Prometheus (meaning forethought) and his
brother, Epimetheus (meaning afterthought), were given certain tasks by Zeus after they fought on
Zeus side in the war with the Titans. As a reward for their loyalty, Zeus gave Epimetheus the
responsibility of creating the animals and distributing their qualities, for example, strength, speed,
and stamina. Prometheus, on the other hand, was given the task of creating man. Prometheus
molded man out of clay, giving them the ability to walk upright so that they could be closer to the
heavens and the Gods. Since Epimetheus was extremely rash in his dispersion of the traits and
qualities to the animals, when it came time for Prometheus to give some to man, there were none
left. So, Prometheus gave man fire, and taught him how to grow food, and how to make objects,
such as tools. Zeus then asked Prometheus to give him the part of a sacrificial ox that he deemed
worthy for the Gods, which would leave the rest for man. Prometheus tricked Zeus into picking the
most undesirable part of the ox, and in anger, Zeus reclaimed the fire that man once possessed.
Prometheus then stole the fire back, by lighting a torch from the sun. As punishment,

Comparing Greek Mythology And The Bible
Compare and contrast Greek mythology and Bible
Inside the Bible there are many amazing and spectacular miracles. Many people in earth who are
non Christian doubt about that also some Christians doubt on the miracles that Jesus performed.
Just like the bible Greek myths have lots of fantasy stories which people doubt on it. And we can
assume that both Bible and Greek mythology has some stories/ characters that are same and some
stories/ characters can be different. Both of these have a starting point which is the creation of
something. And this is clearly recorded in Genesis 1: 1 2 that In the beginning God created the
heavens and the earth. 2 Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of
the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters (NIV). Genesis shows the readers ...

And clearly explained how it was very dark. Also in this Greek mythology book it says that Gaea,
the Earth, came out of darkness so long ago that nobody knows when or how. Earth was young and
lonesome, for nothing lived on her yet (D aulaires, 9). This shows that in the beginning there was
nothing and that Gaea (mother of earth) was created very suspiciously and due to her being created
Uranus (lord of the universe) appeared. But before Uranus came everything was very dark and
looked much unfilled. And also the starting point was very dark and unburdened before God
started to make and establish something on the earth. In order for the earth to have these kind of
lovely buildings and establishments we needed someone help. And God helped us. Just like god
helped in the Bible, Greek myth says that if there was no mother of earth and lord of the universe
there would have been no creation in the start. Since Gaea (mother of earth) loved Uranus

College Is Intimidating And Frightening
What is the most dreaded topics among high school students? College. College is intimidating and
frightening. However, students should be relieved to know that a home away from home can be
found at the University of Missouri. The university of Missouri can also be known as Mizzou. The
University of Missouriis an exceptional choice for students pursuing the medical field because of
the high level of competition at the Sinclair School of Nursing, the vast variety in majors, the
manageable admissions, and the intriguing campus, but one should be cautious in considering the
crime rate on and around this campus. Mizzou is located in the intriguing city of Columbia,
Missouri. Students of Ste. Genevieve High Schoolshould expect a drive around two hours and
thirty eight minutes to this campus (Maps). Columbia has a population of 116,906 offering over
600 different restaurants, 8 hospitals, and 49 public parks (Mizzou). Prospect Mizzou students
should have no concern about finding a job while living on campus. Toys R Us, Pizza Hut, and
McDonald s are a few, among a list of many, places hiring college students to work less than seven
minutes away from campus (Part Time Jobs). Students could highly benefit from working at one
these jobs, especially if having past experience. Customer service an extremely important

Dream Life And Reality In Ready Player One By Ernest Cline
Literature is a work of art that is fabricated with the fundamental purpose to convey meaning and
messages to readers. What is conveyed is completely decided by the author, however its
underlying message can be interpreted in multiple forms by different readers. Literature often
explores the gap between reality and the writer s imagination, which can lead to a false sense of
reality. This false sense may eventually allow for an oversimplification of reality, where the real
worldseems to be transparent, namely that everything flows too well without disruption. Often
times, the aspects of reality are despised because they come with problems that individuals are not
ready to solve. Hence why people filter certain components of life to make their lives simpler.
Moreover, from my perspective literature has the utmost ability to encourage readers to
oversimplify their reality to a great extent. Oversimplification can be introduced through novels that
refer to the difference of a dream life and reality.
My book club novel, Ready Player One by Ernest Cline examines the struggles and benefits of
physically living in reality and mentally living in a virtual reality. Cline introduces the virtual
reality, OASIS as the primary reason why the protagonist, Wade even continues to exist. However,
by dedicating his life to OASIS, Wade decided to oversimplify his life within OASIS, as specific
features from his true reality vastly differed from those within OASIS. Physique is a large

Evolution is often thought to only take place over the course of millions of years. Because of
this, it is commonly believed that it is impossible to observe evolution within a human lifetime.
However, two scientists were able to observe evolution taking place over the course of only a few
years. Peter and Rosemary Grant studied the birds named after Charles Darwin that live on the
Galapagos Islands. Darwin was able to study these finches and develop his theory of natural
selection from his observations. The finches on the Galapagos Islands all evolved separately from
each other and adapted to their unique environments. The different species of finch on the Islands

Camphor Reduction Reaction Lab Report
The purpose of this experiment was to perform a reduction reaction using camphor in methanol
with sodium borohydride. This reaction generated a mixture of diasteroemers; bornoel and
isoborneol. NMR analysis was used to determine the product ratio of isoborneol to borneol. In
this experiment, 100 mg of camphor, appearing as white crystals, were dissolve in 1 mL
methanol. Four portions of approximately 25 mg of sodium borohydride were added. The
reaction mixture was refluxed for 5 minutes and cooled to room temperature. The reaction flask
was then placed into ice bath and filtrated by vacuum filtration. The mixture of isoborneol and
borneol appeared to as a white powder. Camphor is the limiting reagent in this reaction, which will
theoretically yield 0.101 g of borneol. In this experiment, .0961 g of bornoel was... Show more

This is very high yield, which indicate there weren t any errors in this experiment. As seen the
calculations, the product ratio between isoborneol to borneol is 3.91. This means that for every
3.91 isoborneol will be 1 borneol. Compared to the example with integration ratio of 2.314 and
9.497, a product ratio of 5.13 was calculated. The product ratios are similar, however, in this
experiment much less borneol was found. Even in the NMR displayed in figure A, it was difficult
locating the peak B, which represented borneol. Isoborneol is the major product in this reaction
because the reaction has favorable mechanism for endo pathway. In this reaction, sodium
borohydride acts as nucleophile to the electrophile of the carbonyl on camphor. Sodium
borohydride can attack via the endo and exo pathways. In order to attack the exo pathway, the

The Human Memory Process Essay
Memory is associated with the thinking again or recalling to the mind of something learned from
past experience. Human memory is an important part of human existence, but it is rarely
understandable. Memory is a mental time travel (Goldstein, 2011, p. 116). A memory can bring
back the feeling about situation, event and experience that occurred long ago. Memoryis used to
remember fact, acquired new knowledge and how to use new knowledge or skill in day to day life
(Goldstein, 2011). Sternberg (1999), defined memory as remembered the past experience to use the
information in the future. Without a memory a person cannot operate in present or think in the
future because it affect the ability to learn new knowledge. There are four major... Show more

Researcher past finding stated that memory consolidation refers to the process of memory
strengthen the resistance to interference during the encoding process (Walker, Brakefield, Hobson
Stickgold, 2003). The finding then renewed it as the processes of strengthening a memory trace
after the first information is acquired. This process categorizes into two categories which part of
the process of encoding or of storage, or it as a memory process in its own right (Mastin, 2010).
Researchers divided consolidation into two specific processes, synaptic consolidation that happens
in the first few hours after learning or encoding and system consolidation where hippocampus
dependent memories become independent of the hippocampus over a period of weeks to years.
Research on neurological stated that the process of consolidation known as a phenomenon called
long term potentiation. Synapse increased the power in order to increase the total number of signal
transferred between two neurons. Potentiation defined as the process by which synchronous firing
of neurons makes those neurons more inclined to fire together in the future. Long term potentiation
is happens when the common group of neurons fires together so often and they become
permanently sensitized to each other. Since new experiences gather together, the brain produces
more connections and pathways, then re wire connection and rearranging its organization (Mastin,
2010)

Essay about Coming Of Age In Mississippi
Coming of Age in Mississippi is an eye opening testimony to the racism that exemplified what it
was like to be an African American living in the south before and after the civil rights
movements in the 50 s and 60 s. African Americans had been given voting and citizen rights, but
did not and to a certain degree, still can not enjoy these rights. The southern economy that Anne
Moody was born into in the 40 s was one that was governed and ruled by a bunch of whites, many
of which who very prejudice. This caused for a very hard up bringing for a young African American

Also, I think that since she was busy with everything else in her life that she could not really
hang out with friends, church was a place for her to make some friends. Religion was not just a
factor for Anne, but for many of the slaves during the Civil War. The slaves would use religion
as a way to get away from the harsh realities of their lives. Also they viewed Jesus and Moses as
heroes who lead their people to freedom. Their religion was aimed toward the real world rather
than being in heaven when they died. Basically, their singing or praying was about being
delivered from slavery. They also used hymns as special codes for meeting points while trying to
escape. To me the song Swanee River has a different meaning to the song on page 129. To me
Swanne River was talking about being at home and a child, being around the familiar faces; your
family and friends. Also, I think that home refers to being back on the plantation where they know
they have security. Not in the sense of being safe, but being where they know and somewhat have
fun. The song on page 129 about god s hebben means to me that black and white people are the
same, minus the color of their skin. It is saying that every one is the same in God s eyes, and
when we get to heaven we are all going to look the same. To me the Swanee River song tells me
that the black people miss being at home and as much as they hated being owned by whites they

Toni Morrison Literary Devices
The postmodernist period was a period in literary period where writers used their voices to
express how they felt about what was going on in the world around them. During the postmodern
period there was many events going on that would cause an author to feel a certain way and feel
the need to express themselves. An event that could make an author feel the need to express
themselves during this period is the Civil Rights Movement. As a result of the Civil Rights
Movement, a color fence, or barrier of sorts between African Americans and white people, was
created based on opportunity and privilege. In an analysis of Toni Morrison s short stories
Sweetness , The Color Fetish , and The Work You Do, The Person You Are , one can see how the
postmodernist elements of ironyand allusions are demonstrated.
Morrison uses literary devices to her advantage when she is trying to explain her argument and
create an overall tone and feeling of her writing. The postmodern period was shaped by its use of
literary devices to prove a point and open our eyes to the world they were seeing, irony was just
one of the devices Morrison used specifically. Parody, irony, and narrative instability often
inform the tone. (CollegeBoard, Slide. 31). The authors found a way to express themselves
through their use of literary devices is their way of expressing their tone and using diction to
keep their audience interested. Also, when they use devices such as irony it can provide a
picture for the audience making them create a connection to the time period. Toni Morrison s
use of irony is evident throughout her works but one was eye catching was, It s not my fault. So
you can t blame me. (Sweetness, para. 1). This is a very ironic statement because Lula Ann s
mother is discriminating against her for how black she is based on the pure fact that her color is
going to make her an outcast in society. This was the beginning for Lula Ann because she wouldn t
have the same opportunity to pass as a white person and receive the same opportunity granted to
those of that skin color. Directly supporting the idea of the color barrier and the extent people
would go to just to try and receive the opportunities.
As a postmodern author, you cannot

Men Approaching Death
Do Not Go Gentle into That Good Night by Dylan Thomas describes how men feel when
approaching death. The readers are encouraged to approach death with hesitation because you can
offer a lot more to this world if you have the determination to live longer. Thomas use of literary
devices emphasize this idea and gives examples of how men approach death.
The poem begins with the speaker talking to an unknown listener and ends by telling us that the
unknown listener is the speaker s father. The speaker describes the behaviors of various types of
outstanding men and how they view their lives. Throughout the poem, the speaker encourages the
reader to fight until their last dying breath. Thomas directly relates to this poem because it was
written as he watched his father wither away. This poem symbolizes his father s determination to
fight.
The structure of the poem itself is a very important factor, as it describes the different views of men

The Themes Of African American Literature
Within African American Literature, there are many themes that are relatable across many different
forms of media. Paintings, for example, can have similar and contradictory themes to those that are
used in African American Literature. Like authors with their literature, artists too take from their
experiences and opinions and form a creation that is a reflection of what they believe. These
creations, both literature and paintings, can contain certain topics that are quite alike. Ellis Wilson,
and African Americanartist, created a painting that exhibits the theme of spirituality in his painting
Prayerin the Field. This theme can be linked to at least three works from African American
literature that broadens the way readers and spectators of art see spirituality.
In Prayer in the Field, it is not difficult to see that spirituality is a major theme. There are three
elements of this painting that support the theme of spirituality. The first element of this painting
that one notices is the bright colors used. Ellis Wilson, whom is known for his expressive,
emphasis of color, uses warm and inviting colors to create a scene that conveys complete
tranquility (Ellis Wilson). Along with color, the next element is the four figures kneeling in the
field praying. These elongated forms, which Wilson is also known for, are what bring in the
spirituality aspect (Ellis Wilson). The tone of Prayer in the Field created by the colors is what
gives these kneeling figures meaning. The warm

The Mafia s Money Laundering
Money Laundering
The term money laundering is said to create from Mafia possession of Laundromats in the United
States. Gangsters there were earning huge sums in cash from extortion, prostitution, gambling and
bootleg liquor. They needed to demonstrate a legitimate source for these monies.
Money laundering is the process by which criminals try to conceal the true origion and ownership
of the proceeds of their criminal activity, allowing them to maintain control over the proceeds and,
in the end, providing a legitimate cover for their sources of income .
In the 1980 s, money laundering was considered only as interest basically with drug trackling
backgrund. It created trouble in western society, because the profit genration was increasing from
criminal activities. Therefore, there was a force from society to take action against drug dealers by
introducing legislation that would remove them of their illegal gains.
Government soon identified that criminal organizations, which made massive profits from drugs,
could corrupt the system of state at all levels.
Money laundering is a worldwide trend, supported by international society which is a 24hrs a day
business. If one closes, another opens for business.
As a 1993 UN Report noted: The essential features of laundering of profits of crime are its global
nature, the flexibility and adapbility of its operations. These make the crime in an organized

Archetypal Characters In Hamlet
Through Hamlet, William Shakespeare reveals that madness is driven by different factors, and
whether someone is truly mad depends on their inner self and life struggles. In the play the
characters of Hamlet and Ophelia are both mad. Shakespeare uses archetypal characters to compare
one who is driven to madness and one who is only pretending.
Ophelia is the good girl who has gone mad . Ophelia s archetypal innocence decieved herself and
led her down a dark path. Ophelia fears doing things wrong so her strategy is to things right, with
that being said she has become a pon in everyone s game. In the games of her father she is nothing
but obedient, I shall obey my Lord. (I.iii. Line 145). Essentially when obeying her father, Ophelia
has no control over her body, her relationships, or her choices. Though in the beginning Hamlet
seemed to be a romantic he later became abusive which was apart of his mousetrap , but Ophelia
became blind because of how naive she was. The problem is that her inner self was so obedient
that she could never fight back when she needed to. In act 3 Hamlet seems to know that Ophelia

River, Stone by Lynn Nottage has had the greatest impact on my life, this play allowed me to
delve not lonely deeper into the understanding of my self, but even being able to relate it to the
insurmountable social injustice we see that is taking place in today s society; you know it s said
theater has a way of relating to history and even current events this playshowed me just how true
that statement is. Well, actually let s go back a bit and really break this down for a second.
When Stephen Davis told me that this particular play was going to be my thesis and that David
Bradley was the role I was going to play I truly didn t know how to feel, okay that s a lie I was
happy, excited and then nervous as I thought about all that would encompass; the process of
putting on a full show as a thesis; now I ve watched and saw many friends over the years produce

Well, not so much a time crunch but time definitely wasn t on our side, with the need to be off

my script and a ticking clock. Every day I found myself immersed in the script working to get off
book as quickly as I could, but I also found myself at a major standstill, normally in regards to
memorizing a script I found that I try to memorize the smaller chucks first then memorize the
longer sections, I thought this tactic would work best for this script; I quickly discovered that for
myself that the opposite would be the crowning victor in this battle. It was easier for me to

came with trying to keep up with the text not only between Sarah and David, but also between

How Did The Normans Change The English Language
The Normans had a big impact on the English language. The nobility and Kings changed the
vocabulary in government, law, army, religion, fashion and cuisine. Also they started using more
written texts, as a result many changes happened in spelling, pronunciation and grammar rules. It is
said that the Normans added 10000 words to the english languageof which 75% is used today,.
One of methods that very interesting is that words just transformed their meanings completely for
no reason. He gives an example whereby the meaning for the word had entirely changed in their
meaning: counterfeit and brave. Counterfeit now means a fake copy of a genuine good, such as
fake money, but in the past it meant a legitimate copy.

Summary Of The Story Of The Three Little Pigs
In England, 1890 there was a tale named The Story of the Three Little Pigs . In this tale, an old
sow sends her three little pigs into the world to seek their fortune. The pig s meet a man; he
supplies them with building materials such as: straws, sticks, and bricks. Each pig uses one of
the materials to build their house with. The first pig builds his house with straws and the second
with sticks; only to get devoured by a hungry wolf who huffed and puffed and blew their houses
down. However, the third pig who built his house with bricks survived the mischievous wolf.
The wolf thought to himself, Well! If I can t get to him, then I ll have to find a way to bring him
to me . So, the wolf tried to lure the pig out of his home. He tried three various places the: turnip
field, apple tree, and fair. But, the pig outsmarted him by going one hour earlier. The wolf was
angry and decided to climb down the pig s chimney. Subsequently, the wolf was unaware of what
the pig had in store for him on the other side; a big pot of scorching water. The pig celebrated his
victory by eating the wolf for dinner. Throughout The Story of the Three Little Pigsthe third little
pig outwitted his brothers by exemplifying astute qualities that allowed him to further his quest
against the wolf. There was a plethora of different events that showcased the third pig s
intelligence. To name a few: building his house with bricks, surviving the apple treeincident, the fair

Differences In Twins Compare And Contrast

Difference in twins and clones
From the very beginning of evolution, human beings have been developing themselves rapidly in
physical and mental aspects. With every successful evolutionary era, human beings are found to
be somewhat alike to their ancestor. Birth of twins is always a matter of great curiosity in world.
Many are amazed with this fact of twining. The fact that contrasts offspring s being alike to their
ancestor is a genetic carrier called DNA. DNA is a double helical structure that is composed of
genetic material called chromosomes. Chromosomes found in human body cells are equal in
number in each cell and are formed after the cell division and condensation of DNA (charlotte 3).
With growing technology and scientific progress artificial twining called cloning is also made
possible. But, Identical twins made from biological parents are incomparable to the clones made
from a genetic host.
Genetic material called Chromosomes carry genetic material from springs to spring with slight
variation. During birth unusual division of chromosome can give birth to twins. Twins can be of
two types identical twins and fraternal twins. Identical twins look alike but fraternal twins do not.
Twining is a biological process. There is another artificial process of making twins that is cloning,
which results same as twining. Usually by definition, clones are living organism that has placed
themselves in a different

The Golden Parachute Option for CEO s
Imagine being in a world where people are paid in cash bonuses, stock options, or generous
severance pay when fired from their job due to a company merger, are asked to leave, or choose
to retire. This happens to be a reality for many CEO s and top executives of companies. We live
in an economy where mergers and take over s have become common, and to allow this option for
the highest paid employees of a company is arguably unfair. While researching golden parachutes, I
formed questions due to the circumstances surrounding this executive option. For example, why
should CEO s, who live very comfortably, be given a compensation package for losing their
position due to a company merger or retirement when employee and shareholder s futures are...

Once executives were getting these highly substantial payments, shareholders quickly questioned
executives for their integrity and motive due to this high increase in payment amounts. There have
been many debated reasons in support of and against golden parachutes on account of the increase
in payment amounts and how the terms of their severance package were written out.
It interests me how easy someone can be opposed to golden parachutes from a middle class
citizen s view, where we all want to be paid the same dollar figures as top executives. It s strongly
argued golden parachutes give the feeling that CEO s and top executives are solely looking out
for themselves, not considering how investors and employees will be impacted by mergers. As I
stated in my opening paragraph, Why should CEO s be given a compensation package for losing
their job due to a company merger or retirement when employee and shareholder s futures are at
stake? Andrew Ross Sorkin supported this notion in his article Executive Pay: A Special Report;

Spanish And English Language Development
Angela Cisneros Linguistics 1 Professor Schuh 14 March 2015 Term Paper (Introduction) I
grew up in a Hispanic household and was taught Spanish at a very young age. I spoke only
Spanish until I began kindergarten. My school only permitted English, thus I was placed in an
English Language Development course that helped me learn English. My parents spoke English
and Spanish, so I was able to practice my English with them as well. I was in the E.L.D course
from first to fourth grade. Slowly but surely I was able to communicate effectively, I still struggle
with the English grammar. Due to the drastic change from Spanish to English, my ability to speak

For example, school becomes eschool or shape becomes esshape. Whereas, English native
speakers who learn Spanish at a later age struggle with understanding that some letters are not
pronounced in particular words. For example, hombre which means man, is pronounced as
ohmbre , and the letter J actually sounds like the H in the spanish alphabet for instance, san juan.
I feel though that the English language is a much more difficult language compared to Spanish
because it has so many rules that one needs to follow. For instance, Spanish just has those 5
vowels if you learn them and learn how to pronounce them you are set. (Comparison of
Grammar) I will be comparing the gender agreement in Spanish and English. In Spanish all
nouns are either feminine or masculine (La y El ) and the adjectives have to agree with the noun
that is being described. So if the noun is masculine, the adjective must be masculine and if the
same noun is as well plural, the adjective will be masculine and plural. For instance, El libro
masculine and plural, whereas Los libros is all parts masculine and plural as well. Looking at the
English language one can see that it

Architecture And Design Of The Modern Era
As individuals, we all have multifarious requirements for the buildings we use and the places we
live in, work and socialise in needs to mirror this diversity. In other words, to suit whatever purpose
we require from the structure and to make sure it functions as the designer envisaged.
Construction methods are constantly changing, and yet we can still appreciate the beauty, charm
and graceful lines of architecture dating back hundreds of years. This includes magnificent
buildings of the modern period as well as the traditional historical ones, brought to us from across
the world by the medium of pictures, either as moving images or stills.
Artists of each progressive era found these buildings a source of fascination, as they revealed a
breath taking beauty in the urban landscape.
It can be argued that architecture and design have proved more significant in the establishment of
cultures as civilisations developed. For the vast majority of the population, buildings are what
they saw and used in their everyday lives, it was either a place they lived in, worked in or
sometimes visited. Generally it was only the rich and privileged and this included religious
establishments who saw, and more importantly appreciated what was known as art . The general
population was fairly ambiguous to art and the aesthetics of architecture by adopting a more
pragmatic view of their surroundings. For most of them it did not excite their intellect, as they were
more concerned about order and

The Importance Of Food Allergies
According to the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Disease (NIAID), food allergies are
defined as an adverse immune response that occurs upon on exposure to a given food and is
distinct from other adverse responses to food. Food allergies are an increasingly prevalent and
chronic condition that requires attentive management by those affected by it . According to the
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, more than 50 million Americans have an allergyof
some kind. Food allergies are estimated to affect 4 to 6 percent of children and 4 percent of
adults. Food allergies are most commonly seen in babies and children, but they can appear at any
stage in life. A food allergyis an immune response that typically occurs after food is ingested.
Symptoms usually occur immediately or within hours of ingestion, and can affect the cutaneous,
gastrointestinal, cardiac and/or respiratory systems (Crain, 2011). Current management includes
avoidance of the offending food and emergency medications as needed. It is estimated that 1 in
13 children have a food allergy. As reactions to food allergies can be severe and even fatal, it is
important for those who have food allergies to fully understand how to manage them. Some of the
most common food allergies include peanut allergy, Cow s milk protein allergy, more common than
food allergies are food intolerances, which can cause vomiting, diarrhea, spitting up, and skin
rashes. A food intolerancediffers from allergies because

Masque Of The Red Death Comparison Essay
After finishing the both the poem by Dylan Thomas and the short story Masque of the Red Death
by Edgar Allen Poe the (things that are almost the same as other things) in the topic become
obvious. One (thing that s almost the same as another thing) is how they talk heavily about death
and how it is unavoidable, also in both pieces they try to outrun and escape death. In Masque of the
Red Death you see that Succeedo is trying to avoid death and hides out for months. But, in Do not
go gentle the author is pushing the character to fight and to stand up against death. For example in
the text it says, Rage, extreme anger against the dying of the light. This clearly shows that the
author believes in fighting and standing up for yourself. The authors do not... Show more content on

To a reader the theme is seen/obvious in both readings. Together they both support the claim and

message is brought across very clearly. For example, when Thomas says Though wise men at
their end know dark is right, Because their words had forked no lightning they Do not go gentle

darkness or death is right around the corner, there not going to gently and peacefully die, they
are going to try and fight against death. In Poe s short story, again any talk about the guests

Cutting taxes across the board including income tax rates, capital gains and estate taxes among

There are several ways in which the government can cut taxes while maintaining worthwhile
government subsidized programs, which will be discussed in this paper.
To have funded tax cuts the government will have to cut spending by eliminating waste and by
reforming while preserving needed entitlement programs such as Welfare, Social Security and
Medicare though slowing the rate of growth in spending on them. As quoted in a Business Week
editorial quot;Cutting the growth in Medicare spending by $150 billion would help open the way
for a truly balanced budget, lower interest rates and higher economic growth quot; (A Vote for a
Sensible Center 194).
To eliminate waste the government will have to cut programs that are no longer needed and
programs that overlap each other. quot; The federal government today has 163 separate job training
programs, 26 food programs and 180 educational programs. The government needs to eliminate
some, consolidate some and change others quot; (The Balance Sheet). The government can also cut

having each person contribute something in these meetings that might need more attention or could
be changed.
In leadership and management, we would mainly discuss what leadership styles there were,
referring to the behavioral patterns that a person portrays when that person is trying to lead. The
two main portrayals were task oriented leaders and person oriented leaders. Most effective
leaders would have both skills. I want to become one of those leaders. One who determines what
has to be done and how to go about doing tasks effectively as a task oriented leader. As well as one
who will also suggest ways of accomplishing the task at hand, but also will encourage others to
determine how. We also discussed how to prepare for such leadership in the six steps suggested and
researched by Fred Fiedler (1967): be knowledgeable about the particular tasks, develop mental
models for managing meaning, work harder than anyone else, be personally committed to group
goals and needs, be willing to be decisive, and develop people skills as well as task skills. In order
to be an effective supervisor, I will need to work hard at becoming more knowledgeable about the
store and its surroundings, the RetailPro program we use, and how to open and close down a store.

Resurrection In Charles Dicken s A Tale Of Two Cities
The concept of resurrection has always been an alluring subject in all cultures. Some believe this
can be achieved through purification and repentance. Throughout the book, situations arise in
which characters allude to rising again in a new life. The reader sees to what length people will go
to bring about improvement in a beloved s life, or to achieve a much desired afterlife of one s own.
In Charles Dicken s novel, A Tale of Two Cities
, the idea of resurrectionplays a huge role in the
lives of many characters, including Dr. Manette, Sydney Carton, and Jerry Cruncher; the theme
also adds to Dickens s message by illustrating the importance of love, morality, and faith. One
very significant example is of Dr. Manette, who originally was traumatized as a result of his
unfair imprisonment but eventually is recalled to life (Dickens 13). While Dr. Manette was in
jail, he grappled exhaustingly every day trying to deal with his deteriorating mental state. His
time spent in the Bastille is compared to him being buried alive for this reason; it was so
inhumane and cruel that he felt dead. Dr. Manette was essentially being brought back to life with
his release from prison. However, Dr. Manette s rebirth has just begun and does not become
complete until he is reunited with his daughter (Dingyuan and Xiaohua 91). His freedom does not
only affect his life, it has a huge impact on his daughter and even other characters like Darnay.

The Department Of Homeland Security And Homeland Defense
The defense, security, and safety American citizens enjoy each and every day is a result of
dedicated professionals committed to Homeland Security and Homeland Defense. These broad
initiatives require well defined missions, organized and focused tasking, and finally, clearly
understood duties, responsibilities, and operations. Organizations charged with these
responsibilities must be better resourced than those of the enemy. Success in each of these
objectives requires a well organized infrastructure with clear mission sets. The afore mentioned
areas of responsibility, related planning, and resource/personnel management are fluid (rightfully
so) and are constantly reevaluated, restructured, and/or reinforced to best counterattack our Nation s
vulnerabilities before they become casualties.
In its very simplest terms, Homeland Security s focus starts from the United States borders and
works inward. At the forefront leading this initiative is the Department of Homeland Security
(DHS). DHS was established following the devastating terrorist attacks carried out on September
11th, 2001 in an attempt to safeguard the American people, US soil, and American values (DHS,
2016). DHS has a crucial mission set that includes securing the nation from it s many threats and
requires the utmost dedication of its ~250,000 trained professionals.

Death In Venice Themes
Death in Venice by Thomas Mann, was told from the point of view of Gustav von Aschenbach.
The main theme of the novel was Aschenbach following around a little Italian boy, Tadzio.
Tadzio reminds Aschenbach of himself when he was a child. Aschenbach and Tadzio were ill as
children which is why Aschenbach becomes infatuated with Tadzio. Aschenbach was home
schooled as a child because he was very ill and his parents decided that it was best for him to
remain isolated from the other children. He came from a wealthy family which allowed him to
live this lifestyle. The difference between the two is that although Tadzio is ill as a child he was
still presented opportunities to play with other children and gain experiences. Part of the reason
that Aschenbach as an adult has writers block is because as a child and as a young adult he didn
t have communication with the outside world. The remainder of this essay will be focused on
the fact that if Aschenbach lived a normal life like Tadzio then the consequences of Aschenbach
s legacy wouldn t have been tarnished . As Aschenbach s character developed throughout the
book, his appearance also changed which was caused by the behavior of Tadzio. Tadzio possess
something that Aschenbach didn t have when he was a child, a childhood. In the novel
Aschenbach sees an Oldman that has changed his appearance in order to fit in with the younger
crowd. For example, the Oldman dyed his hair. He is appalled by this but later on he actually
changes his appearance to become closer to Tadzio. Aschenbach is trying to reunite with his
youth. The obsession with the young boy, which shows itself as lust, is really his desire to be
young again. By pursuing Tadzio dressed as a youthful figure, he thinks he can achieve this.
Aschenbach s outward transformation is completed with help from the hotel barber. Aschenbach
dyes his hair black, applies cosmetics to his face, and arches his eyebrows. The result is a more
youthful Aschenbach. If Aschenbach lived a normal childhood he wouldn t have the desire as an
adult to become a child once again and follow Tadzio. In reality, the change in his appearance
made Aschenbach look like a clown which is how other people perceived him when he dies

INTRODUCTION In my paper I decided to write about Harley Davidson Motorcycles influence
in Saudi Arabia and the Arab nations in general. I selected this topic in regards to a comment
that my professor, Dr. Thomas Coyle, for MTML 4330 mention during one of his lectures.
During Dr. Coyle lecture he mention that Saudi Arabia woman used to dress as men to drive
Harley Davidson motorcycles. According to Dr. Coyle Arab woman used to dress as men to be

attention how Harley Davidson has been a brand that impacted the global community. Especially,
since I couldn t imagine an American product being sold in the part of the world where is
presume most countries hate Americas beliefs and lifestyle. It was even harder to imagine Harley
Davidson being sold in Saudi Arabia which represent freedom, adventure, and individuality. Totally
opposite to what I imagine the Arab culture beliefs towards American products would stand for.

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Crime Statistics
During this essay, I will be discussing recorded crime statistics and victimisation surveys as they
are our primary techniques of measuring levels and trends of crime. After briefly explaining what is
meant by these terms, I will seek to evaluate their strengths and weaknesses in order to question the
extent to which they are reliable resources that provide us with accurate information.
Firstly, recorded crime statistics are collated through the collection of data by law enforcement
agencies, such as the police in England and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in America.
It focuses on the crime that is reported by the public and then what is chosen to be recorded by
the police. During the mid late 19th century, these statistics formed the basis of information about
crime, however, although they still provide raw data for publications such as the Offenders
Index, they are now viewed critically. This is because, according to Mayhew and Hough (1988),
the recorded crime statistics are adequate as a measure of police workload, but because of
unreported and unrecorded crime deficient as an index of crime .
Secondly, the Home Office funded a national victimisation survey which was originally known as
the British Crime Survey, with the purpose of interviewing a representative sample of the
population about their experiences of crime and victimisation in the last 12 months. Since 2011/12,
it is now known as the Crime Survey for England and Wales (CSEW) as Scotland and

The Spread of Soviet-Backed Communism Across Eastern...
The Spread of Soviet Backed Communism Across Eastern Europe after 1945 In seeking to
provide an answer to the question, Was the spread of Soviet backed communism inevitable
across Eastern Europe after 1945?, I would like to point to the words of a contemporary
specialist. At the end of World War II, R. R. Betts, the Masaryk Professor of Central European
History at London University, asserted that much of the revolution in central and eastern Europe
is native and due to the efforts of the peoples and their own leaders . . . [making it] clear that
even if the Soviet Union had not been so near and so powerful, revolutionary changes would have

Yet there are many such cases within the purview of this question. However, I do not completely
disagree with the thesis of inevitability of Soviet backed communism or at least some form of
authoritarianism. Thus, in the first section of this paper, I will air much of the support for that
assertion and conclude that it was highly likely Soviet backed communism would eventually
accomplish what it did. However, in a second section, I will argue that this outcome was hardly a
fait accompli in 1945. Neither the subtleties of Eastern Europe s possible economic relations with
the West in the form of the Marshall plan nor the lack of uniformity of the processes by which
different states became Soviet satellites bear out the thesis of inevitability. The main strands of the
argument for the inevitability of both authoritarianism and Soviet backed communism follow: The
liberal democracies established in Eastern Europe after World War I were enfeebled by many
factors, so much so that by the beginning of World War II, authoritarianism was already the norm.
Thus, the post war step to further authoritarianism was not very large. The Wilsonian attempt at
creating nations produced conditions hardly less destabilizing than those that had characterized the
pre 1914 period, chiefly because of the sheer number of different ethnicities with the vehement
desire . . . to secure revision of the post war settlement (Lewis 28, 30). The

Food Intake In Adolescents
Food Intake A poor diet containing high levels of fat or sugar and few nutrients can cause kids
to gain weight quickly (Sallis Glanz, 2006, pg. 100). Fast food, candy, and soft drinks are
common culprits. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reports that 32
percent of adolescent girls and 52 percent of adolescent boys in the United States drink 24
ounces of soda or more per day (School Health Guidelines, 2011). Convenience foods, such as
frozen dinners, salty snacks, and canned pastas, can also contribute to unhealthy weight gain
(Kuhl, Clifford, Bandstra, Filigna, Yeomans Maldonado, Rausch, Stark, 2014, pg. 96). Children
can become obese due to their parents lack of knowledge on how to properly prepare healthy
foods. Other families may not be able to easily afford or access fresh fruits, vegetables, and meats

not able to be present for dinner preparation or dinner itself, which leads to something quick such
as fast food (Charles Kerr, 2016, pg. 416). In addition, single parent households and households in
which both parents work full time have a tendency to favor the consumption of prepared food items

maxine hingston Assess the claim that social class differences in educational achievement are
primarily the result of school factors
Social class background has a powerful influence on a child s chances of success in the education
system. Children from middle class families on average perform better than children from working
class families and the gap between middle and working class educational achievement gets bigger
as children get older. Internal factors, also known as school factors, these are factors inside the
education system, such as a students subcultures, teacher labeling and language codes also affect a

students are often labeled and streamed into low achieving section, they are far from discouraging
students, it often makes students more likely to want to work hard to prove their teachers wrong.
This was proved in research in which black young girls were streamed into lower ability classes,
and were then determined to do better than they would have if they were labeled as high achievers.
Negative labelling and putting students into different streams or bands can cause some pupils to
rebel against school values. As a response to negative labelling and frustration with low status,
pupils may form antmaxine hingstoni school subcultures or vice versa and create a pro school

working class student.

Rhetorical Analysis for On Covers of Many Magazines, a Full Racial Palette is Still Rare
In David Carr s essay, On Covers of Many Magazines, a Full Racial Palette is Still Rare, the author
states his opinion/analysis of the magazine industry and the, small amount of diversity that is
involved with it at this time, but he believes that it could be on the rise. In this essay Carr takes his
opinion, explains it, and also supports it with many statistics and quotes from people involved in
the industry. He supports his argument with many rhetorical devices and successfully proves his
point. The main purpose in Carr writing this essay is to expose the small amount of diversity

Berry is only the fifth black to appear on the cover of the magazine since 1964 (227). Carr then
explains that as the continuing explosion of hip hop has pushed many black artists into
prominence, and as teenagers magazines that are less anxious about race are bringing more
diversity (227). This is where he finds the support to present his theory of how the growing
diversity in teen magazines will spread, and that the generation of young consumers who have
decided that race is much less important than how hot a given celebrity s latest record or film is
(230) Carr gives us his basic claim in little detail in the beginning, and then uses the heart of the
essay to give us a full detailed explanation of it. Carr sets his essay up in an order that ties to his
attitude and the way he appeals to his audience. He gives you a basic description or outline of
his claim to open the door, and then he takes his claim into detail with enough supporting
research for you to have a full understanding of what his belief is plus how and why he came to
this belief. He uses many supporting facts, statistics, quotes, and logical observations that help you
realize what he is saying and to show why it s a problem. Carr shows that he has evidence to
support what he claims through the amount of research that he writes about. He uses quotes from
eleven different people, consisting of editors and authors from different magazines and a professor,
and he also uses a chart that

These procedures include how the ballot is structured, how the vote is casted, how the votes are counted, and how the winners are selected. Although there are a variety of ways a voting system can be structured to enable citizen authorization of authority there are two dominant votingsystems in Western democracies: plurality system and proportional representation. Douglas J. Amy in (2000) and G. Bingham Powell in (2000) present a list of criteria that can be used to determine which voting system is preferential. In this paper I will consider Accountability, High Quality Campaigns, and Stable and Effective Governmentas the criteria for evaluating voting systems, and evaluate the degree to which majoritarian and proportional representation systems fulfill these criteria. In the majoritarian vision of citizen control, concentrated power is necessary. Majoritarian electionsact as... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In a majoritarian system, voters are able to easily identify which representative they should be holding accountable when unacceptable actions are being taken. This is possible because the majoritarian system uses single member districts in which members of the legislature are elected one at a time in small districts (Amy 29). It also important to note that candidates are elected based on who receives the most votes. This means that it is easy for constituents to not only identify which representative was elected to serve them but to hold them accountable as well. The same can be said about political parties, because of the two party system it is very likely that one party will win the majority of the seats in the legislature, which means that voters will know who to blame for unacceptable actions (Amy ... • 3. The Modern Prometheus Essays The Modern Prometheus Did Mary Shelley initially title her work about Victor Frankenstein and his creation The Modern Prometheus solely because of the glaring similarities between their stories? That is a question that is often discussed, but a conclusion rarely arrives. One of the possible reasons for this could be because there are many different interpretations of the Promethean myth, which are mainly based on the ambiguous nature of the story. The parallels between the Promethean myth and Frankenstein are obvious, and that, in combination with her subtitle, The Modern Prometheus, indicates that Mary Shelley did have the myth in mind as she wrote the story. One perception of Prometheus actions views him as a hero: the creator ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The ambiguity of the myth of Prometheus lies in its interpretation. Prometheus (meaning forethought) and his brother, Epimetheus (meaning afterthought), were given certain tasks by Zeus after they fought on Zeus side in the war with the Titans. As a reward for their loyalty, Zeus gave Epimetheus the responsibility of creating the animals and distributing their qualities, for example, strength, speed, and stamina. Prometheus, on the other hand, was given the task of creating man. Prometheus molded man out of clay, giving them the ability to walk upright so that they could be closer to the heavens and the Gods. Since Epimetheus was extremely rash in his dispersion of the traits and qualities to the animals, when it came time for Prometheus to give some to man, there were none left. So, Prometheus gave man fire, and taught him how to grow food, and how to make objects, such as tools. Zeus then asked Prometheus to give him the part of a sacrificial ox that he deemed worthy for the Gods, which would leave the rest for man. Prometheus tricked Zeus into picking the most undesirable part of the ox, and in anger, Zeus reclaimed the fire that man once possessed. Prometheus then stole the fire back, by lighting a torch from the sun. As punishment, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

And we can assume that both Bible and Greek mythology has some stories/ characters that are same and some stories/ characters can be different. Both of these have a starting point which is the creation of something. And this is clearly recorded in Genesis 1: 1 2 that In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. 2 Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters (NIV). • 7. Dream Life And Reality In Ready Player One By Ernest Cline Literature is a work of art that is fabricated with the fundamental purpose to convey meaning and messages to readers. What is conveyed is completely decided by the author, however its underlying message can be interpreted in multiple forms by different readers. Literature often explores the gap between reality and the writer s imagination, which can lead to a false sense of reality. This false sense may eventually allow for an oversimplification of reality, where the real worldseems to be transparent, namely that everything flows too well without disruption. Often times, the aspects of reality are despised because they come with problems that individuals are not ready to solve. Hence why people filter certain components of life to make their lives simpler. Moreover, from my perspective literature has the utmost ability to encourage readers to oversimplify their reality to a great extent. Oversimplification can be introduced through novels that refer to the difference of a dream life and reality. My book club novel, Ready Player One by Ernest Cline examines the struggles and benefits of physically living in reality and mentally living in a virtual reality. Cline introduces the virtual reality, OASIS as the primary reason why the protagonist, Wade even continues to exist. However, by dedicating his life to OASIS, Wade decided to oversimplify his life within OASIS, as specific features from his true reality vastly differed from those within OASIS. Human memory is an important part of human existence, but it is rarely understandable. Memory is a mental time travel (Goldstein, 2011, p. 116). A memory can bring back the feeling about situation, event and experience that occurred long ago. Memoryis used to remember fact, acquired new knowledge and how to use new knowledge or skill in day to day life (Goldstein, 2011). This process categorizes into two categories which part of the process of encoding or of storage, or it as a memory process in its own right (Mastin, 2010). Researchers divided consolidation into two specific processes, synaptic consolidation that happens in the first few hours after learning or encoding and system consolidation where hippocampus dependent memories become independent of the hippocampus over a period of weeks to years. • 16. Toni Morrison Literary Devices The postmodernist period was a period in literary period where writers used their voices to express how they felt about what was going on in the world around them. During the postmodern period there was many events going on that would cause an author to feel a certain way and feel the need to express themselves. An event that could make an author feel the need to express themselves during this period is the Civil Rights Movement. As a result of the Civil Rights Movement, a color fence, or barrier of sorts between African Americans and white people, was created based on opportunity and privilege. In an analysis of Toni Morrison s short stories Sweetness , The Color Fetish , and The Work You Do, The Person You Are , one can see how the postmodernist elements of ironyand allusions are demonstrated. Morrison uses literary devices to her advantage when she is trying to explain her argument and create an overall tone and feeling of her writing. The postmodern period was shaped by its use of literary devices to prove a point and open our eyes to the world they were seeing, irony was just one of the devices Morrison used specifically. Parody, irony, and narrative instability often inform the tone. (CollegeBoard, Slide. 31). The authors found a way to express themselves through their use of literary devices is their way of expressing their tone and using diction to keep their audience interested. Also, when they use devices such as irony it can provide a picture for the audience making them create a connection to the time period. Toni Morrison s use of irony is evident throughout her works but one was eye catching was, It s not my fault. So you can t blame me. (Sweetness, para. 1). This is a very ironic statement because Lula Ann s mother is discriminating against her for how black she is based on the pure fact that her color is going to make her an outcast in society. This was the beginning for Lula Ann because she wouldn t have the same opportunity to pass as a white person and receive the same opportunity granted to those of that skin color. Paintings, for example, can have similar and contradictory themes to those that are used in African American Literature. Like authors with their literature, artists too take from their experiences and opinions and form a creation that is a reflection of what they believe. These creations, both literature and paintings, can contain certain topics that are quite alike. Ellis Wilson, and African Americanartist, created a painting that exhibits the theme of spirituality in his painting Prayerin the Field. This theme can be linked to at least three works from African American literature that broadens the way readers and spectators of art see spirituality. In Prayer in the Field, it is not difficult to see that spirituality is a major theme. There are three elements of this painting that support the theme of spirituality. The first element of this painting that one notices is the bright colors used. Ellis Wilson, whom is known for his expressive, emphasis of color, uses warm and inviting colors to create a scene that conveys complete tranquility (Ellis Wilson). Along with color, the next element is the four figures kneeling in the field praying. These elongated forms, which Wilson is also known for, are what bring in the spirituality aspect (Ellis Wilson). Differences In Twins Compare And Contrast Subash Khanal ENGLISH 1113 @ TR@ 9:30 Mrs. Smith 8th Dec, 2016 Difference in twins and clones From the very beginning of evolution, human beings have been developing themselves rapidly in physical and mental aspects. With every successful evolutionary era, human beings are found to be somewhat alike to their ancestor. Birth of twins is always a matter of great curiosity in world. Many are amazed with this fact of twining. The fact that contrasts offspring s being alike to their ancestor is a genetic carrier called DNA. DNA is a double helical structure that is composed of genetic material called chromosomes. Chromosomes found in human body cells are equal in number in each cell and are formed after the cell division and condensation of DNA (charlotte 3). With growing technology and scientific progress artificial twining called cloning is also made possible. But, Identical twins made from biological parents are incomparable to the clones made from a genetic host. Genetic material called Chromosomes carry genetic material from springs to spring with slight variation. During birth unusual division of chromosome can give birth to twins. Twins can be of two types identical twins and fraternal twins. Identical twins look alike but fraternal twins do not. Twining is a biological process. There is another artificial process of making twins that is cloning, which results same as twining. Usually by definition, clones are living organism that has placed themselves in a different ... The Golden Parachute Option for CEO s Imagine being in a world where people are paid in cash bonuses, stock options, or generous severance pay when fired from their job due to a company merger, are asked to leave, or choose to retire. This happens to be a reality for many CEO s and top executives of companies. We live in an economy where mergers and take over s have become common, and to allow this option for the highest paid employees of a company is arguably unfair. While researching golden parachutes, I formed questions due to the circumstances surrounding this executive option. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Once executives were getting these highly substantial payments, shareholders quickly questioned executives for their integrity and motive due to this high increase in payment amounts. There have been many debated reasons in support of and against golden parachutes on account of the increase in payment amounts and how the terms of their severance package were written out. It interests me how easy someone can be opposed to golden parachutes from a middle class citizen s view, where we all want to be paid the same dollar figures as top executives. It s strongly argued golden parachutes give the feeling that CEO s and top executives are solely looking out for themselves, not considering how investors and employees will be impacted by mergers. As I stated in my opening paragraph, Why should CEO s be given a compensation package for losing their job due to a company merger or retirement when employee and shareholder s futures are at stake? Andrew Ross Sorkin supported this notion in his article Executive Pay: A Special Report; Those Sweet Trips to the Merger Mall in which he stated, Mergers and acquisitionscan be get rich quick paths for top corporate managers, providing a personal incentive to get the deal done, no matter what happens to shareholders. I feel though that the English language is a much more difficult language compared to Spanish because it has so many rules that one needs to follow. For instance, Spanish just has those 5 vowels if you learn them and learn how to pronounce them you are set. (Comparison of Grammar) I will be comparing the gender agreement in Spanish and English. In Spanish all nouns are either feminine or masculine (La y El ) and the adjectives have to agree with the noun that is being described. In other words, to suit whatever purpose we require from the structure and to make sure it functions as the designer envisaged. Construction methods are constantly changing, and yet we can still appreciate the beauty, charm and graceful lines of architecture dating back hundreds of years. This includes magnificent buildings of the modern period as well as the traditional historical ones, brought to us from across the world by the medium of pictures, either as moving images or stills. Artists of each progressive era found these buildings a source of fascination, as they revealed a breath taking beauty in the urban landscape. It can be argued that architecture and design have proved more significant in the establishment of cultures as civilisations developed. For the vast majority of the population, buildings are what they saw and used in their everyday lives, it was either a place they lived in, worked in or sometimes visited. Generally it was only the rich and privileged and this included religious establishments who saw, and more importantly appreciated what was known as art . The general population was fairly ambiguous to art and the aesthetics of architecture by adopting a more pragmatic view of their surroundings. Some believe this can be achieved through purification and repentance. Throughout the book, situations arise in which characters allude to rising again in a new life. The reader sees to what length people will go to bring about improvement in a beloved s life, or to achieve a much desired afterlife of one s own. In Charles Dicken s novel, A Tale of Two Cities , the idea of resurrectionplays a huge role in the lives of many characters, including Dr. Manette, Sydney Carton, and Jerry Cruncher; the theme also adds to Dickens s message by illustrating the importance of love, morality, and faith. One very significant example is of Dr. Manette, who originally was traumatized as a result of his unfair imprisonment but eventually is recalled to life (Dickens 13). While Dr. Manette was in jail, he grappled exhaustingly every day trying to deal with his deteriorating mental state. His time spent in the Bastille is compared to him being buried alive for this reason; it was so inhumane and cruel that he felt dead. Dr. Manette was essentially being brought back to life with his release from prison. However, Dr. Manette s rebirth has just begun and does not become complete until he is reunited with his daughter (Dingyuan and Xiaohua 91). • 36. Death In Venice Themes Death in Venice by Thomas Mann, was told from the point of view of Gustav von Aschenbach. The main theme of the novel was Aschenbach following around a little Italian boy, Tadzio. Tadzio reminds Aschenbach of himself when he was a child. Aschenbach and Tadzio were ill as children which is why Aschenbach becomes infatuated with Tadzio. Aschenbach was home schooled as a child because he was very ill and his parents decided that it was best for him to remain isolated from the other children. He came from a wealthy family which allowed him to live this lifestyle. The difference between the two is that although Tadzio is ill as a child he was still presented opportunities to play with other children and gain experiences. Part of the reason that Aschenbach as an adult has writers block is because as a child and as a young adult he didn t have communication with the outside world. The remainder of this essay will be focused on the fact that if Aschenbach lived a normal life like Tadzio then the consequences of Aschenbach s legacy wouldn t have been tarnished . As Aschenbach s character developed throughout the book, his appearance also changed which was caused by the behavior of Tadzio. Tadzio possess something that Aschenbach didn t have when he was a child, a childhood. In the novel Aschenbach sees an Oldman that has changed his appearance in order to fit in with the younger crowd. For example, the Oldman dyed his hair. He is appalled by this but later on he actually changes his appearance to become closer to Tadzio. Aschenbach is trying to reunite with his youth. The obsession with the young boy, which shows itself as lust, is really his desire to be young again. By pursuing Tadzio dressed as a youthful figure, he thinks he can achieve this. Aschenbach s outward transformation is completed with help from the hotel barber. Aschenbach dyes his hair black, applies cosmetics to his face, and arches his eyebrows. The result is a more youthful Aschenbach. If Aschenbach lived a normal childhood he wouldn t have the desire as an adult to become a child once again and follow Tadzio. • 38. Advantages And Disadvantages Of Crime Statistics During this essay, I will be discussing recorded crime statistics and victimisation surveys as they are our primary techniques of measuring levels and trends of crime. After briefly explaining what is meant by these terms, I will seek to evaluate their strengths and weaknesses in order to question the extent to which they are reliable resources that provide us with accurate information. Firstly, recorded crime statistics are collated through the collection of data by law enforcement agencies, such as the police in England and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in America. It focuses on the crime that is reported by the public and then what is chosen to be recorded by the police. During the mid late 19th century, these statistics formed the basis of information about crime, however, although they still provide raw data for publications such as the Offenders Index, they are now viewed critically. This is because, according to Mayhew and Hough (1988), the recorded crime statistics are adequate as a measure of police workload, but because of unreported and unrecorded crime deficient as an index of crime . Secondly, the Home Office funded a national victimisation survey which was originally known as the British Crime Survey, with the purpose of interviewing a representative sample of the population about their experiences of crime and victimisation in the last 12 months. Since 2011/12, it is now known as the Crime Survey for England and Wales (CSEW) as Scotland and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Spread of Soviet Backed Communism Across Eastern Europe after 1945 In seeking to provide an answer to the question, Was the spread of Soviet backed communism inevitable across Eastern Europe after 1945?, I would like to point to the words of a contemporary specialist. At the end of World War II, R. R. Betts, the Masaryk Professor of Central European History at London University, asserted that much of the revolution in central and eastern Europe is native and due to the efforts of the peoples and their own leaders . . . Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Yet there are many such cases within the purview of this question. However, I do not completely disagree with the thesis of inevitability of Soviet backed communism or at least some form of authoritarianism. Thus, in the first section of this paper, I will air much of the support for that assertion and conclude that it was highly likely Soviet backed communism would eventually accomplish what it did. However, in a second section, I will argue that this outcome was hardly a fait accompli in 1945. Neither the subtleties of Eastern Europe s possible economic relations with the West in the form of the Marshall plan nor the lack of uniformity of the processes by which different states became Soviet satellites bear out the thesis of inevitability. The main strands of the argument for the inevitability of both authoritarianism and Soviet backed communism follow: The liberal democracies established in Eastern Europe after World War I were enfeebled by many factors, so much so that by the beginning of World War II, authoritarianism was already the norm. Thus, the post war step to further authoritarianism was not very large. The Wilsonian attempt at creating nations produced conditions hardly less destabilizing than those that had characterized the pre 1914 period, chiefly because of the sheer number of different ethnicities with the vehement desire . . . to secure revision of the post war settlement (Lewis 28, 30).
