Summary Of The Book By Nathaniel Hawthorne
Chapter 1 5 The book opens with a description of people founding a new colony, later revealed to
be Boston, and setting aside parts for a cemetery and a prison. The prison is described as ugly
and weather stained. Also pointed out is the presence of a rose bush in front of the prison gate
that has somehow been kept alive. A rose is offered to the reader on the basis that it could
symbolize a moral blossom or relieve the darkening close of a human frailty and sorrow
(Hawthorne 42). After this brief description, the story begins with a crowd gathering in front of the
prison to see Hester Prynneserve her punishment. There are a group of hard featured women who
debate the punishment Hester has been given. They believe Hester s... Show more content on

He is then informed of Hester s sin and that the baby s father has not been exposed. Then, a shout
comes from above Hester drawing her attention. It is from the balcony where the governor and
men of dignity are seated, watching Hester s punishment. The voice belonged to reverend John
Wilson, the eldest clergy man of Boston. He introduces Reverend Mr. Dimmesdale who then
speaks to Hester and the audience, asking Hester to tell them who the man involved is so that he
may stand with her on the platform. [This part is rather interesting because prior to this I had
always thought/been informed that everyone only cared about Hester s sin. I had always blamed
sexism and stereotypical gender roles as the reason behind Hester s punishment but it seems that
the people of Boston wanted to punish the male party just as much.] While Reverend Mr.
Dimmesdale has a very convincing voice, Hester still refuses to give a name.
Hester is now again in her prison cell with her child and is obviously mentally unwell. A doctor
is called and administers medicine to both Hester and her child. Hester admits to previously
having suicidal thoughts and to being depressed. The stranger that was in the crowd comes to her
cell; it is her husband, Roger Chillingworth. He expresses anger and disappointment in Hester s
actions and Hester retaliates by saying she made it clear she never loved him. Robert decides that
he does not want his identity to

The Effects Of Hiv On Female Sex Workers
Introduction
Since the first cases of HIV were detected among female sex workers (FSW) in Chennai, India in
1986, dramatic progress has been made in the last three decades in the battle against HIV both in
India and globally (Mayer, 2011). Despite this progress, new infections continue to occur in 2012,
there were an estimated 2.3 million persons newly infected with HIV globally (UNAIDS, 2013).
Many new infections often occur within the context of a serodiscordant relationship an infected
partner in a relationship transmits HIV to the uninfected partner. Over the past thirty years, several
interventions have been identified to prevent HIV transmission from HIV infected persons to
uninfected persons in serodiscordant relationships. Yet, transmissions continue to occur.
Interventions such as voluntary counseling and testing, condom promotion, and risk reduction
counseling are very effective in preventing transmission among serodiscordant couples but are
underutilized in India despite their widespread availability (Kumar et al., 2011). Interventions such
as pre risk exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) and universal antiretroviral therapy (irrespective of CD4
count) have been newly identified but face several challenges that impede their widespread
implementation in India (Kumar et al., 2011). Serodiscordant couples in India also face certain
unique socio cultural issues such as marital and fertility pressure (Gupta et al., 2010).

The Distribution Of The Ornate Limpet
Biology report
Aim of this investigation
The aim of this investigation is to look at the distribution of the ornate limpet, (Cellana Ornata) and
the radiate limpet (Cellana Radians) on the rocky shore. We went to the rocky shore of Sirens
rocks between Island Bay and Owhiro Bay, on Wellington s South Coast. We are studying how our
chosen organisms affect each other s distribution patterns. We sampled in the low tidezone, mid
tide zone, and high tide zone. The rocky shore we explored was 80 metre long, rocky terrain, bare
rock platforms with rock gulley s.
Description of limpets
Limpets have conical shells. The limpets that are situated higher up on the shore tend to have taller
shells than those on the lower shore. The underside of the limpet has a muscular foot on which the
limpet moves around on.
Identification of organisms
Radiate limpets are identified by their flatter shells than the ornate limpet shells. Radiate limpets
can have 20 25 smooth low radial ribs. In the North Island the ribs are more indistinct and maybe
absent, the shell has radial streaks of brown and white. In the South Island the shells are dark grey
with fine radial lines. Ornate limpets are identified by their radiating black bands with a row of
white specks.
Biology of organisms
An ecological niche refers to an organism s way of life where it lives, its habitat, how it lives there
and its adaptions. The radiate limpet lives in the low tide zone of the rocky platforms whereas the

The Role Of The Accounting Profession And The Value Of The...
Accountants play an important role in the world of business. The article, The Future of the
Accounting Profession and the Value of the CPA. , illustrates the importance of the accounting
profession and the challenges that accountants face. With over ten years of experience working in
the areas of finance and office management, I have personal experience with various influences in
the accounting world that were discussed in the article. This includes topics such as technological
advancements, the merits of networking mentorship, the value of obtaining a CPA designation,
accountancy education, and work life balance (WLB). The accounting profession continues to
evolve alongside social trends and corporate developments, such as corporate social responsibility
(CSR) and crowdfunding. In my previous position as Director of Finance Administration at
Disability Rights International (DRI), I have traveled to many countries and conducted several
international financial trainings and workshops to encourage education, transparency, and self
sustainability to local partners and field offices. I have seen first hand how financial reporting
and fiduciary responsibility is a powerful tool, which one can wield to impact and empower to
promote social change. However the reverse is also true: social changes also affect financial
reporting. After reading the Jones Jonas (2011) article, Corporate Social Responsibility Reporting:

Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Essay
The Triangle Shirtwaist Factory was a perfect example of the average sweatshop in the early
twentieth century. It had long hours, low pay, hired young immigrant women, and most
importantly, had a dangerous work environment. On March 25, 1911, a fire started in the 8th floor
on a rag tub and it spread throughout the factory. The fire department did come, but it s ladder and
hoses were too short and couldn t reach the 8th floor so not many people were saved. The
workers were neglected of safety measures and too overcrowded that not everyone survived. The
Fire brought high casualties. There were over 500 workers at the factory, and it was a little space
while much too overcrowded. There weren t that many safety exits in the factory that actually
worked, so they were crowded and it led girls to jumping out the window, though some survived
because of life nets. Unfortunately, the life net ripped because 3 girls jumped at the same time. 146

the factory was not safe at all, there was even a fire prevention specialist that sent the owners a

needles and threads they consumed. Sometimes, they weren t even paid at all or would be at the

The Battle of Fredericksburg Essay
The Battle of Fredericksburg falls in a long list of failures of the Army of the Potomac during the
first year of the American Civil War. Following the Battle of Antietam the Northern Army had the
opportunity to defeat Lee s army. However, Northerners, were shocked by Lee s escape following
this battle on 17 September 1862, and were further upset by Major General George B. McClellans
procrastination in pursuing Lee and allowing General J.E.B. Stuarts daring cavalry raid into
Pennsylvania around Gettysburg (10 12 October 1862). McClellan s failure to pursue Lee s Army
is mainly due to his own lack of confidence, believing that he doesn t have enough men or material
in order to defeat the Army of Virginia. President Lincoln had finally... Show more content on

Lincoln felt that the destruction of Lee s army should be the primary goal, not the capture of a
Southern city, however, he approved Burnside s plan. This was mainly due to the fact that
Burnside was actually moving the army in pursuit of Lee. Burnside s first act as commander was
to divide his army into three grand divisions, the right commanded by Major General Sumner, the
center commanded by Major General Hooker, and the left commanded by Major General Franklin.
Once this was completed he set forth for Virginia with a compliment of 100,000 men.
General Lee had at his disposal two army Corps, the First Corps was commanded by Lieutenant
General James Longstreet and the Second Corps was commanded by Lieutenant General Thomas
Jackson. Both of these corps comprised of 35,000 men for a total of 70,000 men. After leaving
Maryland, Lee decided to divide his army by sending the Second Corps to the Shenandoah
Valley towards Winchester Virginia and the other towards Culpeper station Virginia in order to
see what the North was going to do. The Confederate cavalry were a little slow in detecting the
move of Sumter s grand division, and it was three days before Lee knew about it and could order
Longstreet to intercept the Federals. This allowed the first elements of Northern forces to arrive at

Analysis of The Bluest Eye and Other Works
The story I read independently is called The Bluest Eye by Toni Morrison. The story is told by
two narrators: Claudia Macteer who is a grown woman reflecting back on her childhood, and an
unknown narrator. This Novel is about how America s standards of beauty affect African
Americans. In this novel the community has accepted blond hair, blue eyes, and light skin, as the
only forms of beauty and they pass these beliefs onto their children. This theme is very prevalent in
today s society because the media portrays it often through things like People s Most Beautiful
Woman. Lupita Nyong o was named people s most beautiful woman. She is the first Kenyan most
beautiful woman as well as the first most beautiful woman with dark skin. When Lupita... Show

They both share the themes of how America s standards of beauty affect African Americans in the
bluest eye Claudia remembers being given white baby dolls to play with and how all the adults
talked about how adorable Shirley Temple and she always wondered what made them so much
better. In Their Eyes Were Watching God Janie is held in such high regard in Eatonville
primarily because of her looks and praised by Mrs. Turner for her white features (page 144). To
strengthen this theme both novels have hair as a symbol. Janie s hair is a symbol of her
strength and in The Bluest Eye people with straight hair are praised because that is what is seen
as beautiful. Also due to both books being about African American woman there is a theme of
powerlessness in both novels although Janie did get some power from her Caucasian features,
she was still controlled by all three of her husbands in one way or another. Likewise in The
Bluest Eye Claudia is powerless because she is a child who is black and poor. This is shown
when Claudia talks about how the adults introduced her to strangers as if she was a piece of
furniture. When Claudia spoke on how the adults amused Claudia would like a Caucasian baby
doll for Christmas when all she wanted was to hear some music, hold some flowers and eat a
peach on Christmas day it reminded me of how Joe Starks brought Janie all of the nice clothing and

Research Paper On State Lotteries
State Lotteries: Take a Second Look From the time the Europeans first landed on the Atlantic
shore, lotteries have been a part of the American society. According to Will Spink, most states
are currently operating a state lottery despite its bleak history in the U.S. (Spink 1). Since 1983,
North Carolina has introduced lottery bills in the legislature every year (NC Christian 15). North
Carolina Governor, Mike Easley, favors a lottery for increasing revenues for education (Analysis
2). However lucrative state lotteries appear on the surface, they create even more moral and
financial difficulties for citizens, and this should encourage states to look at other means of
resources instead of legalized gambling. In a lottery fact sheet... Show more content on

Governor Easley proposes that lottery taxes will supplement and not replace other taxes that
support education (Analysis 2). Other states have had the exact opposite to occur. In California,
ninety percent of school superintendents believe it had an adverse effect on their getting other
funds for their schools. In 1987, a study was conducted in Illinois that gave validity to what many
lottery opponents claim happens in many cases: While the lottery money to education increases,
the total education funding in the state budget increases at a lower rate than it has in previous
years (Spink 3). Money magazine s study proved that states with lotteries designate a lower
percentage of their total budget to education than do states without a lottery. However, proponents
could point to the fact that lottery states on an average spend more on education per student, than
non lottery states (NC Insider 2). Research has difficulty proving or disproving social
consequences of lotteries. A survey by Gam Anon, the family counterpart of Gamblers
Anonymous, did reveal that ten percent of its members abused their children, and fifty percent of
the spouses reported physical and verbal abuse. Crimes like burglary, larceny, and auto theft
increase by an average of three percent in states that implement a state lottery. Sixty percent of
heavy gamblers admit to some sort of criminal activity within the past year . (Economic Facts 4).

The curriculum at NYU will provide me the necessary foundation to personify creativity and
innovation. With the accession of China into the WTO, the future of business and trade will surely
create a new horizon and give many new opportunities to a new generation of students and aspiring
business leaders, such as myself. Along with a substantive grounding in the social and cultural
context of all business activity and interpersonal and communications skills essential to a
successful business career, I am also Chinese. As a native to Taiwan, my fluency in Mandarin
Chinese will further allow me to rise above the rest and thrive in a culture I am greatly familiar with.
My unique blend of multiculturalism, in particular the American and Chinese language and
culture, will be especially helpful in our ever changing global economy. I have so much that I
can learn from Stern at NYU, but I also have so much to offer. My different experiences, drive
and desire to learn will further enhance me academically and will allow me to use what I learn to
make the business field better for our future generations. I would like to see the continuance of my
education at NYU as a part of that future. To learn from all that it has to offer, I

Limitations Of The UCI School Of Law
A limitation of this study was that there were only two different law classes observed and only
two interviews conducted. Through this study, over 8 hours of data collection. The classes at both
these observation sites were in different material, one being Criminal Law and the other being
Immigration Law and Policy, which may have been a limitation. This may have been a limitation
because there may be different students oriented towards these areas of law that could have
affected their responses. In addition, there was an unequal gender distribution of interviewees,
considering that both were female. In addition, these two sites provided different sample sizes, the
first being twice as large as the second, which may be a limitation when... Show more content on

Another credibility issue at these two observation sites is a difference in rankings, since the
University of California, Irvine School of Law is the twenty eighth best law school in the United
States, while no rank is published for Whittier Law School. There was also a bias in choosing both
these settings, given that they are both situated in Orange County. I am also an undergraduate
student at the University of California, Irvine, so I was familiar with the campus and the navigating
through the course schedules.
Implications
The findings of the current study have multiple purposes for the legal education system. These
results can be useful for current law school professors and students interested in pursuing a legal
education. Data shows that rankings have an impact on the prospective decisions of law students
and that it can shape their opinions on where to go to law school, but rejects important variables
that could affect the student s experience at the school. In expanding the variables taken into
consideration by these rankings, the U.S. News World Report could provide more realistic ratings
that enable students to choose a college that would be a good fit for them. Data shows the main goal
for law students is to become professionals and gain knowledge, instead of practicing law. Based on
these findings, it would be important to educate these students more about the legal professional
and other graduate programs during undergraduate education. Also,

Vegetation is a key factor in determining the structure of an ecosystem. It determines many
ecological parameters within a plant community such as microclimate, energy budged,

The bloodiest war in American history, led by Abraham Lincoln for the north, and Jefferson
Davis for the south, both presidents, but two different sides. Both garner for peace, yet one is
willing to start a war, while the other is willing to accept it. This essay will compare and contrast
the political, economical, and social outlooks on Lincoln s and Davis Inaugural addresses
throughout the civil war between the North and South. Slavery, laws, and state rights drove the
South to start a war, and Lincoln received the war with open arms. Both sides wanted peace, but
their means of achieving it and their leaders choices and beliefs differed greatly while still holding
similarities. Abraham Lincolnhad many neutral political views, which... Show more content on

When you put the two paragraphs together you can see that where Lincoln took a step back and
planned his approach to not only the oncoming war but the presidency itself, Davis decided to
bull on through and strive to please his own people while slandering those on the other side of the
wall. In terms of the economy, Lincoln had less to say then Davis. Slavery was largely the main
economical problem at the time. Fighting over the abolishment of slavery was slowly escalating.
Lincoln in contrast of what many who have not had history lessons would think, did not come into
office saying he would abolish slavery. I have no purpose, directly or indirectly, to interfere with the
institution of slavery in the States where it exists. (Lincoln, 3) Lincoln had no belief that it was his
right to throw out something so important to the economy of the southern states. Davis surprisingly
makes no major mention of slavery in either of his inaugural addresses. All that Davis talks about
that could slightly relate to slavery is that the Southerners are an agricultural people. Davis main
point about economical subjects, is his strike at the Union s naval blockade of the Southern states.
Davis says that the Union s blockade may be blocking the South s trade with foreign countries, but
it is only making them a stronger self supporting and independent people. Lincoln s only other real
point about the economy is his statement that the mail service will continue throughout the

Criminal Law Assignment
Assignment Question:
A person who is charged with a criminal offence enjoys certain rights. The principle right is that of
the right to silence and the right not to incriminate yourself. The right to silence is an immunity,
which differs in nature, origin, incidence and importance. The suspect s immunity was developed
in order to avoid the risk of untrue confessions being obtained from a person in police custody. The
law does not prohibit a suspect from confessing to a crime. It does however provide that a suspect
should be free to remain silent should he so choose and that he should be informed of his right to

The privilege against self incrimination was seen in the case of Re National Irish Bank . Here some
inspectors were investigating a company in connection with some criminal offences. The
employees in this company refused to answer the questions given to them claiming that they didn t
have to answer these questions because they enjoyed the constitutional right to silence under the
case of Heaney v. Ireland .
Here the right to silence was restricted, as the inspectors had powers that were no greater than what
is required by the public. Therefore the employees had to answer the questions put forward to them
by the inspectors.
In this case, Justice Barrington looked at the privilege against self incrimination in case law in order
to see whether any of the information consumed by the inspector from the accused person
involuntary answering the questions put to him were capable of being used against the accused in
court.
The conclusion made by Justice Barrington stated that although some legislation restricted the right
to silence and required the accused person to answer questions unwillingly, however these answers
might not be used against him as evidence in his trial.
Immunity against self incrimination of an accused person was made in order to avoid the risk of
the accused person in providing false confessions while he is in Garda custody.

The Effects Of Homelessness On The City
Introduction As the winter approaches we are forced to remember the severity of homelessness
in the City. As of 2014, based on data provided by the Coalition for the Homeless, there are
59,246 people sleeping in shelters. It costs the City $3,500 a month to house a homeless person,
adding up to $856 million a year. There are thousands more who sleep on the streets, but due to
lack of data we are not sure of the exact number. Shelters only provide a temporary solution; on
average a person is allowed to stay in a shelter for a maximum of 180 days. How can that individual
/family regain their self sufficiency in a city where the rent is amongst the highest in the country,
and affordable housingis limited. Nearly half of all New York Cityresidents pay more than 30
percent of their income on housing. Median rents have risen 75 percent since 2000, at the same
time, that median incomes have declined, and between 1994 and 2012, the city lost 105,242 of
rent regulated housing. To address this problem, and restore these people sense of citizenship, we
need a citywide reform of the housing system.
Since housing conditions vary significantly from state to state, it is important for state and
localities to develop their own housing strategies. The two basic components that affect housing in
New york, which need to be addressed to reform the affordable housing system are 1) many
families have incomes that are too low to afford the costs to maintain a home 2) constraints on the

Gulliver s Travels Essay
Gulliver s Travels: British Society and American Society
Time is a dressmaker specializing in alterations. In Jonathan Swift s fictional novel, Gulliver s
Travels, Lemuel Gulliver, is the narrator and protagonist who goes on four adventurous voyages.
He is a practical minded Englishman trained as a surgeon who takes to the seas when his business
fails. The details in his style of narration makes it clear that he is bright or intelligent, and well
educated, but his insights are naГЇve and gullible. Throughout his journeys, Gulliver is a serious
first person narrative that hardly shows any signs of self reflection or deep emotional response.
Certainly, sometimes his obsession with the facts of navigation, becomes difficult to comprehend,
as his fictional editor, Richard Sympson, makes it clear when he explains having had to cut out

Genetic Disease And Its Effects On The Body
Introduction Genetic diseases are being discovered more often as we learn the affects that genes
have on the body. McArdle s disease is a metabolic disease that affects skeletal muscle because of
a gene mutation. The genetic mutation prevents the creation of the enzyme myophosphorylase.
This enzyme is responsible for the breakdown of glycogen in muscles (Haldeman Englert, 2014).
McArdle s disease is also known as Type V Glycogen Storage Disorder. It affects approximately one
out of every 100,000 people ( McArdlesDisease.org, n.d.). Glycogen is broken down into glucose,
which is used to produce adenosine triphosphatefor muscleenergy. Patients can live relatively
normal lives with this disease once proper care and education has been provided (Kitaoka, 2014).
Genetic Nature McArdle s disease is seen as muscle dysfunction caused by a mutation in the gene
that codes for the enzyme myophosphorylase. The myophosphorylase gene, PYGM, is located at
chromosome 11q13 (Kitaoka, 2014). There have been over 100 mutations of the gene detected. In
North American Caucasians, the mutation commonly found is the p.R50X (Kitaoka, 2014). In
Japanese patients, it is found to be the p.F709del/F710de mutation (Kitaoka, 2014). Researchers
have seen a correlation between ethnicity and the type of mutation of that they carry. All the
mutations cause a lack of the myophosphorylase enzyme in the muscle tissue. It is found to be an
autosomal recessive inheritance trait. Those who are heterozygotes

Sweatshop, By Karl Marx
Exam 2: Marx
In this short essay I will apply the concepts of exploitation, alienation and labour theory of value
from Karl Marx s theory to analyze the practice of sweatshops and the actors involved. Marx s
theory about exploitation in application to the practice of sweatshops directs us to think about the
downfalls of an capitalist system that oppresses the poor working class. Furthermore, Marx s
theory regarding the alienation of workers from nature and the product directs us to think about
the implications of a system in which mass production jobs are specialized, and its directed
impact on an individual s mental state as well as it s limitation of social mobility. Finally, Marx s
labour theory of value directs us to think about the mass ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of the bigger issues of capitalism is the class conflict it creates, which is demonstrated through
the exploitative practices of the poor working class by the Bourgeoisie. The impact of capitalism is
having an effects on a global scale. In a capitalist society, wealth is not distributed equally and in the
process of aiding the rich to get richer, in both countries that outsource this work as well as in
countries that employ sweatshops, the working class are suffering. In the simplest economic terms,
the more we consume, the more demand it creates, which only increase the quotas for sweatshops.
Another issue within the formulation of sweatshops is the mass consumption of products by
individuals in western and developed countries. The products that are sold on the market are often
inexpensive to an individual that is protected by minimum wage and social regulations, which
allows for leisure time, usually spent purchasing commodities and products. However, the
individuals in these sweatshops are not provided the same protection, and often find themselves
unable to afford the products they

Poutine Persuasive Speech
What s more Canadian than poutine? Mouthwatering fries smothered in a pool of brown gravy
topped with a pile of melting cheese curds. A bowl of poutine has more to it than just being a
Canadian stereotype. This classic dish is loved all over the world, tastes delicious, and is extremely
versatile. How could poutine be anything less than Canadas number one? To begin, poutine is often
considered Canada s national dish. Canada even has restaurant chains like Smoke s Poutinerie that
focus their entire franchise on poutine. Smoke s has had 8 world poutine eating championships
with the most recent being held in 2017. Poutine was invented somewhere in rural Quebec, but is
now sold all over Canada and the rest of the world. Quebec is now known for its delicious
invention that generates lots of publicity and tourists for Canada, giving our government more
money for transportation, roads, parks, libraries, and making our buildings more accessible to
people with disabilities. This one Canadian born invention has spread so much that different

Internal Network Security
Introduction
The development of technology has brought Internet to become the mass communication media
between people or companies. Through Internet, people can communicate with other people in
various places. Companies can get many advantages by using Internet network to support their
business. Therefore, companies are trying as hard as they can, and give high effort in protecting
their network from attack and make sure that they have the best network security.
Most people think that the threat of security attack is only come from outside the company. In fact,
the attack from inside the company network is more harmful with high frequency to be happened.

Developing Secure Internal Network
From all the attacks might threat corporate network either from outside or inside, company must
think critically and fast to maintain the security of its network by building the good network
security design. It is not enough for a company to rely their network security to the firewall only,
since we ve seen that the company network is also vulnerable with inside intrusion.
To build a good internal security system, company must be able to integrate system, by using good
hardware tools that can guarantee the flexibility, easiness to build and easy integration with other
network. Company must also be able to build a good and strong internal security management,
which allow us to control the system centrally. With the central monitoring, we can reduce the costs
of developing the systems. The last tools may work is to integrate the security capabilities. As
described by Cryptek (2001), the good management must be able to distributed user identification
and authentication, distributed firewall capabilities and VPN technologies.

Persuasive Essay Why An Abortion Is Wrong
Why an Abortion is Wrong How would you feel, if I told you that your mother wanted to have
an abortion when you were a fetus just because she didn t want to raise you, didn t have the time
for you, or the money. Or didn t want the responsibility that came with having a child. What if I
told you that half of the women that get pregnant in the U.S. today have abortions, and their main
reason is most likely because it might interfere with their work, education, or relationships. Which
is selfish. If you think about it, they think that the the baby inside them means nothing. They don
t deserve to live a happy life or a life at all. Also they think it s their body, but it s not, it s the baby
s body too. This controversial topic has been an a highly debated argument for many years, whether
it s ethical to kill your unborn child or or not! Also the fact that the rate is growing tremendously.
Abortions first started in the 1820s. At that time, women knew that they were and are killing their
fetusor embryo. Some women are not ready to become parents to take the responsibility. Personally,
I think that having an abortionis morally wrong because you are killing an unborn fetus or
embryo, while it is barely starting to develop. First of all, abortions have been becoming a
conflicting issue during the past several years. The first reason why you shouldn t have an
abortion is because you cannot deprive someone of life and of civil rights. Just because they don t

Types Of Evidence For Instructional Purposes Essay
1. Once you have identified supporting claims, the grounds of an argument, then you need to be
able to evaluate the evidence that will be used to prove these claims. Evidence is the most
important part of any inductive argument. But it is important to recognize that not all evidence is
reliable. Some types of evidencecan t be trusted at all. And even when good evidence is used, it
might not be appropriate for certain types of claims. Thus, evidence has to be both reliable and
logically appropriate, in a word valid, in order to prove a claim true or false.
2. To oversimplify for instructional purposes, I want to explore nine major types of evidence that
are most commonly used in arguments, starting with the weakest form of evidence and moving
forward toward the strongest form. I will briefly explain each type of evidence, focusing on how
reliable it tends to be (strong to weak) and how it could be appropriately used.
Handout: Types of Evidence Sources
3. The first type of evidence is personal experience, sometimes called testimony or an eye witness
account. This evidence is based on what an individual experiences directly or indirectly.
Psychologically, we naturally consider this type of evidence to be the strongest because it is the
most immediate and intimately tied to our local world, which we know the best. However, from a
sociological perspective, personal experience is actually the weakest type of evidence.
4. Even when our eyes see clearly

Chest radiograph (X ray)
Appropriate laboratory tests
Testing for TB infection:
Tuberculin skin test: Also called the Mantoux tuberculin skin test is done by injecting a small

tuberculin skin test must return within 48 to 72 hours to have a trained health care worker look
for a reaction on the arm. If at the site of injection there may be raised, hard area or swelling, its
size should be using a ruler. If the size is greater than 5cm this indicates the positive result for TB.

Symbols In Macbeth Essay
The final act of Shakespeare s Macbeth is the culmination of the entire play, and Shakespeare
uses heavy symbolism to portray the final ideas of this tragedy. In the first scene, it is revealed
that Lady Macbeth has been sleepwalking, an expression of her anxiety. However, the Doctor asks
How came she by that light (i. 23) and why she rubs // her hands (i. 28 29). Throughout the play,
Lady Macbethhas been wrought with guilt because of Duncan s death. Now, she has an ever
burning candle always at her side. This candle represents her state of mind, with the lit wick her
guilt that constantly eats away at her. Additionally, she rubs her hands because, in her state of

...Come sir, dispatch. ... again. Pull t off it, I say. (iii. 60 66). Each line break is a break of the
poetry and symbolic of the unraveling of Macbeth. Additionally, while Macbeth unravels, he asks
his servant Seyton, an allusion in his own rite, to put on and take off his armor multiple times, a
verbal indication of this disorder. However, it goes deeper than just the words themselves, but the
division of the scenes is symbolic of this unraveling. While Shakespeare did not write his plays into
scenes, the constant change of character and location within Act V in stark contrast to many longer
scenes from the rest of the play make apparent the undoing of Macbeth. Finally, the death of
Macbeth is the ultimate symbol within the end. Up until this point, every character had died in the
night (except for Young Siward) and an unnatural darkness had consumed most of the play. At the
time of the final battle, the sun, a symbol of good and victory, shines high over Macbeth s defeat.
This moment culminates the conflicts of evil and good, night and day, Macbeth and Scotland, and
restores the order to the chain of being. Though this dynamic symbolism, Macbeth brings an end to
Macbeth and his regime, restoring peace to

Theu.s V. Lopez, The United States Supreme Court
I. INTRODUCTION
In 1975, the United State Supreme Court held that state law could provide students a property
interest in their education, but forty years have passed and courts remain uncertain of when such an
interest exists. In Goss v. Lopez, the United States Supreme Court extended due process protections
to a group of high school students in Ohio. The Court determined that Ohio state law provided the
high school students a property interest in their continued enrollment at the school, and that such an
interest was protected under the due process clause. The Goss decision came during a time when a
due process revolution was happening in the United States. During this revolution, the Supreme
Court recognized many new property interests in government benefits as the basis for due process
claims. Since Goss, many students have brought due process claims against their schools, but
lower courts have struggled to answer the question of when a student s interest in education rises to
the level of a property interest under Goss. Lower courts have adopted one of three approaches to
determine whether a student has a property interest in education. Under the first approach, the state
specific approach, courts analyze state law to determine whether state law provides students a
property interest. Under the second approach, the standalone approach, courts rely on Goss as a
basis to provide all students a standalone property interest in education. Under the final

Discernment, and chapter 5 The Supreme Emotion. I will also refer to Touching Peace, and the
five mindfulness trainings. The Dalia Lama had so many strong points it was hard to find any
criticisms in his philosophies. One thing that concerned me was how he recognizes people who
kill and torture for pleasure. The other point he made that came across as weaker to me or
somewhat questionable is that we are to question whether our motive is genuinely compassionate

The Dalai Lama felt this to be entirely appropriate, and very necessary, In that it shows two sides
of human potential. I agree with him on this completely and I think the fact they made this
memorial like this makes it more than just a memorial, it is also art. The Dalia Lama wants us to
understand that the existence of negative potential does not give us grounds to suppose that
human nature is inherently violent. The next question to think about is, what about those who
kill and torture for pleasure? Here he is talking about people like Hilter, Stalin, Mao, and Pol
Pot. In these types of people there is a lacking of the basic impulse toward care and affection for
others. There is a commonality between all of them, that their schemes were carried out in
accordance to a perverted vision. They all have goals towards which they were working. The Dalia
Lama wants us to understand that killers come from a particular society, time and place. Also we
should recognize the role of the imaginative faculty in their actions. Although I can understand
these things, I think it comes awful close to making excuses for the horrible actions that these
people have been in charge of. By the use to which this faculty is put determines whether actions it
conceives are positive or negative, ethical or unethical. The individuals motivation in this is known

Rivalries began to form between various First Nations. There was tension due to the fur trade, as

The Pros And Cons Of Praising God
The word praise, from Old French and Latin, means to praise someone, to glorify and extol
through song or compliments and dedication. Praising the Lord is an ocean of feelings at once.
Praising the Lord is expecting a song and acquiring a torrential downpour of adoration and
acceptance; everything pales in comparison. Praising the Lord is expecting disdain and attaining
complete acceptance of every element of you. It is finally realizing how flawless He made you.

laughter represents freedom and an escape from nurse Ratched s restrictions.
Laughter also proves a vital role in helping the patients deal with their problems. Not only does it

The Control Of Mind Control In 1984 By George Orwell
In the novel 1984 George Orwell demonstrates how the government maintains power through
mind control and manipulation of the masses. Orwell hints that when the government (Big
Brother), holds too much power they become crooked and devious towards the rest of the
population. In a nutshell Orwell is conveying that a corrupt government destroys all chances for
an ideal society. Collectively, George Orwell made a prediction of what was going to happen,
and it has become a reality to some extent. Overall this is a great book for the current political
state. As Lewis Beale states in his CNN article nearly all public and private places have large TV
screens that broadcast government propaganda, news and approved entertainment. But they are
also two way monitors that spy on citizens private lives. Today websites like Facebook track our
likes and dislikes, and governments and private individuals hack into our computers and find out
what they want to know. Then there are the ever present surveillance cameras that spy on the
average person as they go about their daily routine . The first clear example occurs with the
posters with the words Big Brother is Watching You (page 5). This is clear evidence that the
government is watching over its people. Shortly afterwards we learn of the Thought Police , who
snoop in on conversations sort of like how the government does today, and always watch your every
move (surveillence cameras) controlling the acts and thoughts of the people.

Abstract
This paper presents a comparison of mechanical properties of 17 4PH stainless steel parts built by
selective laser melting (SLM) additive manufacturing process with the wrought 17 4PH stainless
steel parts. The microstructure is analyzed using optical microscope and the mechanical properties
are evaluated using tensile testing according to ASTM E8 standard. Overall, the SLM fabricated
samples demonstrated superior tensile properties and the microstructure is strongly influenced by
the SLM process. The SLM processed specimens showed higher ductility and ultimate tensile
strength than wrought samples.

Ben was at home on a Saturday night waiting on his wife. He had made reservations at her
favourite restaurant. When Ben last called Claire she said she would be home in an hour. It had
been two hours and there was still no sign of Claire. It was not usual of her to leave Ben

From there he saw Claire. She was perched on the floor: participating in what, to him, looked like

After all, they were both university graduates, well educated people. Ben thought he knew Claire
well enough to know she would never do take part in such a thing or believe in these rituals.

day thinking, he could not come to any conclusion. He decided to contact his therapist to talk about
the situation and settle his mind on what he should do. His therapist was the only person Ben ever
spoke to about his feelings and emotions. The only person he spoke about Claire to. Ben had told
Claire about the therapy sessions and recommended that she could take talk to someone too; she
rejected him and told Ben she would be

My Love Letter
The sole qualification for writing a love letter is that you feel the love and want to express it.
That s the beauty of it. But it would be trite and probably false to say that as an expat, I can love
Canada more truly (observe: Gord Downie). I think it interesting, however, that my love for Canada
has grown up become richer, more intentional and more constant since I left.
I moved with my family from Torontoto New York in 2014 to take a job teaching philosophy a
fantasy job, a world class city.
The months before leaving were a time of pre emptive nostalgia, but I thought the pain I was
feeling and its peculiar sweetness were for the rites of passage ahead. Leaving the city where my
children were born. Leaving my friends as they were leaving me, all leaves on the wind of the
horrid academic job market. Leaving my student days behind.
All that was real.
I was raised, as is any self respecting Northwestern Ontarian, to hate Toronto. But, I loved Toronto
passionately, completely. My husband, from Montreal and similarly brought up, was equally
smitten. Of course, it was hard to leave. Of course, it would be sad. We went back for my
convocation at the University of Toronto a few months after moving to New York and it was
wrenching the geographical version of seeing your gorgeous ex too soon after the breakup.
But two things happened that made me realize the bittersweet quality of our departing days wasn t
just about Toronto, or the life we had built there.

Standardized Terminologies In Nursing Practice
Applying Standardized Terminologies in Practice Hyperhemesis gravidarum is a condition in which
the pregnant woman experiences severe nausea and vomiting. Although the causes of hyperemesis
gravidarum are not well known; however, many believe that elevated blood level of human
chorionic gonadotopin (HCG) may be a contributing factor of this condition. Currently the cause of
nausea and vomiting in pregnancy is unknown, although there is strong evidence linking human
chorionic gonadotropin or estrogens as well as genetic susceptibility possibly mediated through
the vestibuloocular reflex pathway (Fejzo et al., 2012). The following case scenario refers to a 22
weeks pregnant woman admitted to the labor and delivery unit with severe nausea... Show more

Nursing terminologies also help nurses to plan care that reflects the patient s needs, anticipate these
needs, and intervene accordingly. In addition, nursing informatics makes the use of standardized
terminologies more important than ever because it allows differentiating the impact of nursing care
from those of other disciplines. Thus, the standardization of nursing terminologies with documented
nursing diagnoses, nursing interventions, and patient outcomes is important to nursing practice
because it unifies the language among nurses and other healthcare providers, which will have a
positive impact on the quality of

How Might Group Members Particular Ethnicity Or Culture...
How might group members particular ethnicity/culture (as you understand it) influence group
dynamics and communication styles or patterns in the group? Give examples Whenever a
person is apart of a group they are able to have a greater effect on the group rather than if they
was not apart of the group. For example if the Yankees baseball team needed advice on how to
itch against the batter it is likely that the Yankees would take a advice from a pitcher on their
team rather than take advice from the opposing team. This concept can be used with members of
cultures. I am more likely to be heard from a black organization, because I am black and there is a
cultural bond. As I understand a member of a cultural group might influence group dynamics,

Ender s Game by Orson Scott Card Essay
Undermined by dread of another extra terrestrial invasion, humanity turns to the youngsters to
get ready for the approaching war. Ender s Game by Orson Scott Card is a novel and Ender s Game
directed by Gavin Hood is the motion picture based very loosely on that novel. So how true to
the book were these producers? Translating a 368 page military science fiction novel from 30 years
back into a 2 hour film regardless of how well approached will have a few aspects of it hit the
fan. With the principle force of the story being fixated on Ender s inward voice and several
enormous subplots, a few components are sure to be not true to the book whatsoever.
One thing that is commendable about the movie Ender s Game directed by Hood is that ... Show

In the book, people figure out how to utilize a key bit of innovation in the wake of vanquishing
the buggers. Its official name is the Philotic Parallax Quick Communicator, more commonly
known as the ansible. It permits them to impart at close immediate speed over interstellar
separations. It s focused around the buggers biotic capacity to impart over a kind of clairvoyant
hive brain join. The saying ansible is utilized as a part of the film (once), yet they never clarify the
engineering or connection it to the story. This would be fine with the exception of how it influences
the final reveal.
How did Ender know where to discover the bugger queen? Because of a rock formation that had
been purposefully shaped to resemble the fallen castle from a computer game only he had seen.
How did the buggers see Ender s machine diversion? Great inquiry. In the movie it s not clear,
however it s inferred they had some way or another connected into the computer system to which
the game existed.
The book s clarification is considerably more agreeable. At the point when Ender goes to Command
School, an ansible sends Ender s commands (obscure to him) to the actual International Fleet as
they battle the buggers. Since the ansible was retro engineered from bugger innovations, the
buggers can take advantage of Ender s correspondences, and take in more about him than anybody
could have anticipated including his memories of the game.

Slope Research Paper
Morgan Hobbs
Mr. Meyer
Algebra II
12 December 2016
The Importance of Slope Slope is one of the most important equations used in day to day life.
Every structure that you own and live in uses slope. The only reason why everything is stable, is
because of construction workers and anyone that builds things uses slope formula. The formula
for slope is y2 y1 over x2 x1. Slope is very important in the construction field because it often states
the best way to complete a project. The slope of a road affects water runoff, so engineers and
construction workers must plan accordingly. Slope is also important to people who use wheelchairs
and other types of devices to help others move around. Skiers, snowboarders, and snowmobilers
must pay attention ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Skiers use slope every time they go skiing, as well as snowboarders, and snowmobilers. When
you are snowmobiling, you need to assess your surroundings, and decide whether or not it is
safe to go up a steep slope. If you attempt to go up an extremely steep slope without a snowmobile
with high horsepower, you will most likely roll down the slope and get seriously injured. If you
are going down a slope, you need to be aware of the fact that you could possibly start an
avalanche. If an avalanche occurs there is one maneuver to increase your chance of survival.
This maneuver is called a slope cut. When performing a slope cut, you want to have your speed
built up and go in a direction where it is safe, so that if the slope that you are on fractures, your
momentum will carry you off the moving slab and onto a safe

Evaluation Of A Separate Dialogues
Introduction
This paper focuses on the evaluation of three separate dialogues. Each dialogue contains two
characters. The first character gives an argument while the second character provides a response.
The second character is then identified as to whether or not their response meets the challenge of
argument. Subsequently, an explanation will be included in order to fully clarify the reasoning
that is given. Furthermore, an analysis of all the characters of each dialogue will be included.
Terminology studied from this semester such as the ARG conditions and various forms of fallacies
will be used in order to support the suggested analysis (Govier 87). The purpose of this paper is to
demonstrate knowledge and understanding developed from Critical Thinking I.
Dialogue 1 Jim and Roger
In this dialogue, character two does not meet the challenge of argument. Character two partially
denies the claims and premises made by character one, but only provides personal beliefs as a
counterargument. Character two explains their thoughts on the United States being the one country
capable of pressuring both parties as a mediator and what the most essential quality a mediator must
have. Character one s argument is that mediators should be completely neutral between two parties
in dispute. Character one uses a sub argument explaining the unfairness of the event in which the
mediator is in favor of either side of the party beforehand. Character two provides a partial response

Alternate Outcome At Fort Ticonderoga
Alternate outcome at Fort Ticonderoga
In order to come to an alternative outcome, one must first address the instructional letter sent from
General Gage to General Carleton after the battles at Lexington and Concord. The letter took far too
long to get to General Carleton. General Gage had credible human intelligence suggesting that the
colonists wanted to take Fort Ticonderoga. While one understands that one must use the chain of
command, one would think the immediacy of the letter was far more important and should have
gone directly to Fort Ticonderoga, instead of the 10 day long ride to Montreal. And even if that
was not proper protocol, General Gage could have at least sent an advisor with knowledge of
surveillance techniques to Fort Ticonderoga to aid in their post and give better forewarning of a
potential attack.
Secondly, had the British force at Fort Ticonderoga had cavalry scouts assigned to it, there would
not have been much of an American Revolution. The cavalry scouts would have picked up the trail
of Colonels Allen, Arnold, and the Green Mountain Boys. The Scouts could have performed
reconnaissance and then reported back to the garrison commander, putting the whole fort on guard.
Then the garrison commander could have contacted both the British sloop in Lake Champlain and
the garrison at Fort Crown Point for further aid and reinforcements, beating back the patriot
attacking force.
Thirdly, with more troops at the fort, the British could have afforded a couple

  • 2. Summary Of The Book By Nathaniel Hawthorne Chapter 1 5 The book opens with a description of people founding a new colony, later revealed to be Boston, and setting aside parts for a cemetery and a prison. The prison is described as ugly and weather stained. Also pointed out is the presence of a rose bush in front of the prison gate that has somehow been kept alive. A rose is offered to the reader on the basis that it could symbolize a moral blossom or relieve the darkening close of a human frailty and sorrow (Hawthorne 42). After this brief description, the story begins with a crowd gathering in front of the prison to see Hester Prynneserve her punishment. There are a group of hard featured women who debate the punishment Hester has been given. They believe Hester s... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He is then informed of Hester s sin and that the baby s father has not been exposed. Then, a shout comes from above Hester drawing her attention. It is from the balcony where the governor and men of dignity are seated, watching Hester s punishment. The voice belonged to reverend John Wilson, the eldest clergy man of Boston. He introduces Reverend Mr. Dimmesdale who then speaks to Hester and the audience, asking Hester to tell them who the man involved is so that he may stand with her on the platform. [This part is rather interesting because prior to this I had always thought/been informed that everyone only cared about Hester s sin. I had always blamed sexism and stereotypical gender roles as the reason behind Hester s punishment but it seems that the people of Boston wanted to punish the male party just as much.] While Reverend Mr. Dimmesdale has a very convincing voice, Hester still refuses to give a name. Hester is now again in her prison cell with her child and is obviously mentally unwell. A doctor is called and administers medicine to both Hester and her child. Hester admits to previously having suicidal thoughts and to being depressed. The stranger that was in the crowd comes to her cell; it is her husband, Roger Chillingworth. He expresses anger and disappointment in Hester s actions and Hester retaliates by saying she made it clear she never loved him. Robert decides that he does not want his identity to ... • 3. The Effects Of Hiv On Female Sex Workers Introduction Since the first cases of HIV were detected among female sex workers (FSW) in Chennai, India in 1986, dramatic progress has been made in the last three decades in the battle against HIV both in India and globally (Mayer, 2011). Despite this progress, new infections continue to occur in 2012, there were an estimated 2.3 million persons newly infected with HIV globally (UNAIDS, 2013). Many new infections often occur within the context of a serodiscordant relationship an infected partner in a relationship transmits HIV to the uninfected partner. Over the past thirty years, several interventions have been identified to prevent HIV transmission from HIV infected persons to uninfected persons in serodiscordant relationships. Yet, transmissions continue to occur. Interventions such as voluntary counseling and testing, condom promotion, and risk reduction counseling are very effective in preventing transmission among serodiscordant couples but are underutilized in India despite their widespread availability (Kumar et al., 2011). Interventions such as pre risk exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) and universal antiretroviral therapy (irrespective of CD4 count) have been newly identified but face several challenges that impede their widespread implementation in India (Kumar et al., 2011). Serodiscordant couples in India also face certain unique socio cultural issues such as marital and fertility pressure (Gupta et al., 2010). New guidelines published by the World Health ... • 4. The Distribution Of The Ornate Limpet Biology report Aim of this investigation The aim of this investigation is to look at the distribution of the ornate limpet, (Cellana Ornata) and the radiate limpet (Cellana Radians) on the rocky shore. We went to the rocky shore of Sirens rocks between Island Bay and Owhiro Bay, on Wellington s South Coast. We are studying how our chosen organisms affect each other s distribution patterns. We sampled in the low tidezone, mid tide zone, and high tide zone. The rocky shore we explored was 80 metre long, rocky terrain, bare rock platforms with rock gulley s. Description of limpets Limpets have conical shells. The limpets that are situated higher up on the shore tend to have taller shells than those on the lower shore. The underside of the limpet has a muscular foot on which the limpet moves around on. Identification of organisms Radiate limpets are identified by their flatter shells than the ornate limpet shells. Radiate limpets can have 20 25 smooth low radial ribs. In the North Island the ribs are more indistinct and maybe absent, the shell has radial streaks of brown and white. In the South Island the shells are dark grey with fine radial lines. Ornate limpets are identified by their radiating black bands with a row of white specks. Biology of organisms An ecological niche refers to an organism s way of life where it lives, its habitat, how it lives there and its adaptions. The radiate limpet lives in the low tide zone of the rocky platforms whereas the ornate ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The article, The Future of the Accounting Profession and the Value of the CPA. , illustrates the importance of the accounting profession and the challenges that accountants face. With over ten years of experience working in the areas of finance and office management, I have personal experience with various influences in the accounting world that were discussed in the article. This includes topics such as technological advancements, the merits of networking mentorship, the value of obtaining a CPA designation, accountancy education, and work life balance (WLB). The accounting profession continues to evolve alongside social trends and corporate developments, such as corporate social responsibility (CSR) and crowdfunding. In my previous position as Director of Finance Administration at Disability Rights International (DRI), I have traveled to many countries and conducted several international financial trainings and workshops to encourage education, transparency, and self sustainability to local partners and field offices. I have seen first hand how financial reporting and fiduciary responsibility is a powerful tool, which one can wield to impact and empower to promote social change. However the reverse is also true: social changes also affect financial reporting. It had long hours, low pay, hired young immigrant women, and most importantly, had a dangerous work environment. On March 25, 1911, a fire started in the 8th floor on a rag tub and it spread throughout the factory. The fire department did come, but it s ladder and hoses were too short and couldn t reach the 8th floor so not many people were saved. The workers were neglected of safety measures and too overcrowded that not everyone survived. The Fire brought high casualties. There were over 500 workers at the factory, and it was a little space while much too overcrowded. Following the Battle of Antietam the Northern Army had the opportunity to defeat Lee s army. However, Northerners, were shocked by Lee s escape following this battle on 17 September 1862, and were further upset by Major General George B. McClellans procrastination in pursuing Lee and allowing General J.E.B. Stuarts daring cavalry raid into Pennsylvania around Gettysburg (10 12 October 1862). President Lincoln had finally... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Lincoln felt that the destruction of Lee s army should be the primary goal, not the capture of a Southern city, however, he approved Burnside s plan. This was mainly due to the fact that Burnside was actually moving the army in pursuit of Lee. Burnside s first act as commander was to divide his army into three grand divisions, the right commanded by Major General Sumner, the center commanded by Major General Hooker, and the left commanded by Major General Franklin. Once this was completed he set forth for Virginia with a compliment of 100,000 men. General Lee had at his disposal two army Corps, the First Corps was commanded by Lieutenant General James Longstreet and the Second Corps was commanded by Lieutenant General Thomas Jackson. Both of these corps comprised of 35,000 men for a total of 70,000 men. After leaving Maryland, Lee decided to divide his army by sending the Second Corps to the Shenandoah Valley towards Winchester Virginia and the other towards Culpeper station Virginia in order to see what the North was going to do. • 8. Analysis of The Bluest Eye and Other Works The story I read independently is called The Bluest Eye by Toni Morrison. The story is told by two narrators: Claudia Macteer who is a grown woman reflecting back on her childhood, and an unknown narrator. This Novel is about how America s standards of beauty affect African Americans. In this novel the community has accepted blond hair, blue eyes, and light skin, as the only forms of beauty and they pass these beliefs onto their children. This theme is very prevalent in today s society because the media portrays it often through things like People s Most Beautiful Woman. Lupita Nyong o was named people s most beautiful woman. They both share the themes of how America s standards of beauty affect African Americans in the bluest eye Claudia remembers being given white baby dolls to play with and how all the adults talked about how adorable Shirley Temple and she always wondered what made them so much better. In Their Eyes Were Watching God Janie is held in such high regard in Eatonville primarily because of her looks and praised by Mrs. Turner for her white features (page 144). To strengthen this theme both novels have hair as a symbol. Janie s hair is a symbol of her strength and in The Bluest Eye people with straight hair are praised because that is what is seen as beautiful. Also due to both books being about African American woman there is a theme of powerlessness in both novels although Janie did get some power from her Caucasian features, she was still controlled by all three of her husbands in one way or another. Likewise in The Bluest Eye Claudia is powerless because she is a child who is black and poor. This is shown when Claudia talks about how the adults introduced her to strangers as if she was a piece of furniture. When Claudia spoke on how the adults amused Claudia would like a Caucasian baby doll for Christmas when all she wanted was to hear some music, hold some flowers and eat a peach on Christmas day it reminded me of how Joe Starks brought Janie all of the nice clothing and candy ... • 9. Research Paper On State Lotteries State Lotteries: Take a Second Look From the time the Europeans first landed on the Atlantic shore, lotteries have been a part of the American society. According to Will Spink, most states are currently operating a state lottery despite its bleak history in the U.S. (Spink 1). Since 1983, North Carolina has introduced lottery bills in the legislature every year (NC Christian 15). North Carolina Governor, Mike Easley, favors a lottery for increasing revenues for education (Analysis 2). However lucrative state lotteries appear on the surface, they create even more moral and financial difficulties for citizens, and this should encourage states to look at other means of resources instead of legalized gambling. Other states have had the exact opposite to occur. In California, ninety percent of school superintendents believe it had an adverse effect on their getting other funds for their schools. In 1987, a study was conducted in Illinois that gave validity to what many lottery opponents claim happens in many cases: While the lottery money to education increases, the total education funding in the state budget increases at a lower rate than it has in previous years (Spink 3). Money magazine s study proved that states with lotteries designate a lower percentage of their total budget to education than do states without a lottery. However, proponents could point to the fact that lottery states on an average spend more on education per student, than non lottery states (NC Insider 2). Research has difficulty proving or disproving social consequences of lotteries. A survey by Gam Anon, the family counterpart of Gamblers Anonymous, did reveal that ten percent of its members abused their children, and fifty percent of the spouses reported physical and verbal abuse. Crimes like burglary, larceny, and auto theft increase by an average of three percent in states that implement a state lottery. Sixty percent of heavy gamblers admit to some sort of criminal activity within the past year . (Economic Facts 4). State government can find itself in a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Here some inspectors were investigating a company in connection with some criminal offences. The employees in this company refused to answer the questions given to them claiming that they didn t have to answer these questions because they enjoyed the constitutional right to silence under the case of Heaney v. Ireland . Here the right to silence was restricted, as the inspectors had powers that were no greater than what is required by the public. Therefore the employees had to answer the questions put forward to them by the inspectors. In this case, Justice Barrington looked at the privilege against self incrimination in case law in order to see whether any of the information consumed by the inspector from the accused person involuntary answering the questions put to him were capable of being used against the accused in court. The conclusion made by Justice Barrington stated that although some legislation restricted the right to silence and required the accused person to answer questions unwillingly, however these answers might not be used against him as evidence in his trial. Immunity against self incrimination of an accused person was made in order to avoid the risk of the accused person in providing false confessions while he is in Garda custody. • 21. Genetic Disease And Its Effects On The Body Introduction Genetic diseases are being discovered more often as we learn the affects that genes have on the body. McArdle s disease is a metabolic disease that affects skeletal muscle because of a gene mutation. The genetic mutation prevents the creation of the enzyme myophosphorylase. This enzyme is responsible for the breakdown of glycogen in muscles (Haldeman Englert, 2014). McArdle s disease is also known as Type V Glycogen Storage Disorder. It affects approximately one out of every 100,000 people ( McArdlesDisease.org, n.d.). Glycogen is broken down into glucose, which is used to produce adenosine triphosphatefor muscleenergy. Patients can live relatively normal lives with this disease once proper care and education has been provided (Kitaoka, 2014). Genetic Nature McArdle s disease is seen as muscle dysfunction caused by a mutation in the gene that codes for the enzyme myophosphorylase. The myophosphorylase gene, PYGM, is located at chromosome 11q13 (Kitaoka, 2014). There have been over 100 mutations of the gene detected. In North American Caucasians, the mutation commonly found is the p.R50X (Kitaoka, 2014). In Japanese patients, it is found to be the p.F709del/F710de mutation (Kitaoka, 2014). Researchers have seen a correlation between ethnicity and the type of mutation of that they carry. All the mutations cause a lack of the myophosphorylase enzyme in the muscle tissue. • 22. Sweatshop, By Karl Marx Exam 2: Marx In this short essay I will apply the concepts of exploitation, alienation and labour theory of value from Karl Marx s theory to analyze the practice of sweatshops and the actors involved. Marx s theory about exploitation in application to the practice of sweatshops directs us to think about the downfalls of an capitalist system that oppresses the poor working class. Furthermore, Marx s theory regarding the alienation of workers from nature and the product directs us to think about the implications of a system in which mass production jobs are specialized, and its directed impact on an individual s mental state as well as it s limitation of social mobility. One of the bigger issues of capitalism is the class conflict it creates, which is demonstrated through the exploitative practices of the poor working class by the Bourgeoisie. The impact of capitalism is having an effects on a global scale. In a capitalist society, wealth is not distributed equally and in the process of aiding the rich to get richer, in both countries that outsource this work as well as in countries that employ sweatshops, the working class are suffering. In the simplest economic terms, the more we consume, the more demand it creates, which only increase the quotas for sweatshops. Another issue within the formulation of sweatshops is the mass consumption of products by individuals in western and developed countries. The products that are sold on the market are often inexpensive to an individual that is protected by minimum wage and social regulations, which allows for leisure time, usually spent purchasing commodities and products. However, the individuals in these sweatshops are not provided the same protection, and often find themselves unable to afford the products they ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is not enough for a company to rely their network security to the firewall only, since we ve seen that the company network is also vulnerable with inside intrusion. To build a good internal security system, company must be able to integrate system, by using good hardware tools that can guarantee the flexibility, easiness to build and easy integration with other network. • 25. Persuasive Essay Why An Abortion Is Wrong Why an Abortion is Wrong How would you feel, if I told you that your mother wanted to have an abortion when you were a fetus just because she didn t want to raise you, didn t have the time for you, or the money. Or didn t want the responsibility that came with having a child. What if I told you that half of the women that get pregnant in the U.S. today have abortions, and their main reason is most likely because it might interfere with their work, education, or relationships. Which is selfish. If you think about it, they think that the the baby inside them means nothing. They don t deserve to live a happy life or a life at all. Also they think it s their body, but it s not, it s the baby s body too. This controversial topic has been an a highly debated argument for many years, whether it s ethical to kill your unborn child or or not! Also the fact that the rate is growing tremendously. Abortions first started in the 1820s. At that time, women knew that they were and are killing their fetusor embryo. Some women are not ready to become parents to take the responsibility. Personally, I think that having an abortionis morally wrong because you are killing an unborn fetus or embryo, while it is barely starting to develop. First of all, abortions have been becoming a conflicting issue during the past several years. The first reason why you shouldn t have an abortion is because you cannot deprive someone of life and of civil rights. • 27. Types Of Evidence For Instructional Purposes Essay 1. Once you have identified supporting claims, the grounds of an argument, then you need to be able to evaluate the evidence that will be used to prove these claims. Evidence is the most important part of any inductive argument. But it is important to recognize that not all evidence is reliable. Some types of evidencecan t be trusted at all. And even when good evidence is used, it might not be appropriate for certain types of claims. Thus, evidence has to be both reliable and logically appropriate, in a word valid, in order to prove a claim true or false. 2. To oversimplify for instructional purposes, I want to explore nine major types of evidence that are most commonly used in arguments, starting with the weakest form of evidence and moving forward toward the strongest form. I will briefly explain each type of evidence, focusing on how reliable it tends to be (strong to weak) and how it could be appropriately used. Handout: Types of Evidence Sources 3. The first type of evidence is personal experience, sometimes called testimony or an eye witness account. This evidence is based on what an individual experiences directly or indirectly. Psychologically, we naturally consider this type of evidence to be the strongest because it is the most immediate and intimately tied to our local world, which we know the best. However, from a sociological perspective, personal experience is actually the weakest type of evidence. 4. Even when our eyes see clearly ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the first scene, it is revealed that Lady Macbeth has been sleepwalking, an expression of her anxiety. However, the Doctor asks How came she by that light (i. 23) and why she rubs // her hands (i. 28 29). Throughout the play, Lady Macbethhas been wrought with guilt because of Duncan s death. Now, she has an ever burning candle always at her side. This candle represents her state of mind, with the lit wick her guilt that constantly eats away at her. Additionally, while Macbeth unravels, he asks his servant Seyton, an allusion in his own rite, to put on and take off his armor multiple times, a verbal indication of this disorder. However, it goes deeper than just the words themselves, but the division of the scenes is symbolic of this unraveling. While Shakespeare did not write his plays into scenes, the constant change of character and location within Act V in stark contrast to many longer scenes from the rest of the play make apparent the undoing of Macbeth. Finally, the death of Macbeth is the ultimate symbol within the end. Up until this point, every character had died in the night (except for Young Siward) and an unnatural darkness had consumed most of the play. At the time of the final battle, the sun, a symbol of good and victory, shines high over Macbeth s defeat. This moment culminates the conflicts of evil and good, night and day, Macbeth and Scotland, and restores the order to the chain of being. • 32. Theu.s V. Lopez, The United States Supreme Court I. INTRODUCTION In 1975, the United State Supreme Court held that state law could provide students a property interest in their education, but forty years have passed and courts remain uncertain of when such an interest exists. In Goss v. Lopez, the United States Supreme Court extended due process protections to a group of high school students in Ohio. The Court determined that Ohio state law provided the high school students a property interest in their continued enrollment at the school, and that such an interest was protected under the due process clause. The Goss decision came during a time when a due process revolution was happening in the United States. During this revolution, the Supreme Court recognized many new property interests in government benefits as the basis for due process claims. Since Goss, many students have brought due process claims against their schools, but lower courts have struggled to answer the question of when a student s interest in education rises to the level of a property interest under Goss. Lower courts have adopted one of three approaches to determine whether a student has a property interest in education. Under the first approach, the state specific approach, courts analyze state law to determine whether state law provides students a property interest. Under the second approach, the standalone approach, courts rely on Goss as a basis to provide all students a standalone property interest in education. Under the final ... In addition, nursing informatics makes the use of standardized terminologies more important than ever because it allows differentiating the impact of nursing care from those of other disciplines. Thus, the standardization of nursing terminologies with documented nursing diagnoses, nursing interventions, and patient outcomes is important to nursing practice because it unifies the language among nurses and other healthcare providers, which will have a positive impact on the quality of ... • 44. How Might Group Members Particular Ethnicity Or Culture... How might group members particular ethnicity/culture (as you understand it) influence group dynamics and communication styles or patterns in the group? Give examples Whenever a person is apart of a group they are able to have a greater effect on the group rather than if they was not apart of the group. For example if the Yankees baseball team needed advice on how to itch against the batter it is likely that the Yankees would take a advice from a pitcher on their team rather than take advice from the opposing team. This concept can be used with members of cultures. I am more likely to be heard from a black organization, because I am black and there is a cultural bond. As I understand a member of a cultural group might influence group dynamics, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Translating a 368 page military science fiction novel from 30 years back into a 2 hour film regardless of how well approached will have a few aspects of it hit the fan. In the book, people figure out how to utilize a key bit of innovation in the wake of vanquishing the buggers. Its official name is the Philotic Parallax Quick Communicator, more commonly known as the ansible. It permits them to impart at close immediate speed over interstellar separations. It s focused around the buggers biotic capacity to impart over a kind of clairvoyant hive brain join. The saying ansible is utilized as a part of the film (once), yet they never clarify the engineering or connection it to the story. This would be fine with the exception of how it influences the final reveal. How did Ender know where to discover the bugger queen? Because of a rock formation that had been purposefully shaped to resemble the fallen castle from a computer game only he had seen. How did the buggers see Ender s machine diversion? Great inquiry. In the movie it s not clear, however it s inferred they had some way or another connected into the computer system to which the game existed. The book s clarification is considerably more agreeable. At the point when Ender goes to Command School, an ansible sends Ender s commands (obscure to him) to the actual International Fleet as they battle the buggers. Since the ansible was retro engineered from bugger innovations, the buggers can take advantage of Ender s correspondences, and take in more about him than anybody could have anticipated including his memories of the game. ... • 46. Slope Research Paper Morgan Hobbs Mr. Meyer Algebra II 12 December 2016 The Importance of Slope Slope is one of the most important equations used in day to day life. Every structure that you own and live in uses slope. The only reason why everything is stable, is because of construction workers and anyone that builds things uses slope formula. The formula for slope is y2 y1 over x2 x1. Slope is very important in the construction field because it often states the best way to complete a project. The slope of a road affects water runoff, so engineers and construction workers must plan accordingly. Slope is also important to people who use wheelchairs and other types of devices to help others move around. Skiers, snowboarders, and snowmobilers must pay attention ... When you are snowmobiling, you need to assess your surroundings, and decide whether or not it is safe to go up a steep slope. If you attempt to go up an extremely steep slope without a snowmobile with high horsepower, you will most likely roll down the slope and get seriously injured. If you are going down a slope, you need to be aware of the fact that you could possibly start an avalanche. If an avalanche occurs there is one maneuver to increase your chance of survival. This maneuver is called a slope cut. When performing a slope cut, you want to have your speed built up and go in a direction where it is safe, so that if the slope that you are on fractures, your momentum will carry you off the moving slab and onto a safe ... • 47. Evaluation Of A Separate Dialogues Introduction This paper focuses on the evaluation of three separate dialogues. Each dialogue contains two characters. The first character gives an argument while the second character provides a response. The second character is then identified as to whether or not their response meets the challenge of argument. Subsequently, an explanation will be included in order to fully clarify the reasoning that is given. Furthermore, an analysis of all the characters of each dialogue will be included. Terminology studied from this semester such as the ARG conditions and various forms of fallacies will be used in order to support the suggested analysis (Govier 87). The purpose of this paper is to demonstrate knowledge and understanding developed from Critical Thinking I. Dialogue 1 Jim and Roger In this dialogue, character two does not meet the challenge of argument. Character two partially denies the claims and premises made by character one, but only provides personal beliefs as a counterargument. Character two explains their thoughts on the United States being the one country capable of pressuring both parties as a mediator and what the most essential quality a mediator must have. Character one s argument is that mediators should be completely neutral between two parties in dispute. Character one uses a sub argument explaining the unfairness of the event in which the mediator is in favor of either side of the party beforehand. Character two provides a partial response and ... • 48. Alternate Outcome At Fort Ticonderoga Alternate outcome at Fort Ticonderoga In order to come to an alternative outcome, one must first address the instructional letter sent from General Gage to General Carleton after the battles at Lexington and Concord. The letter took far too long to get to General Carleton. General Gage had credible human intelligence suggesting that the colonists wanted to take Fort Ticonderoga. While one understands that one must use the chain of command, one would think the immediacy of the letter was far more important and should have gone directly to Fort Ticonderoga, instead of the 10 day long ride to Montreal. And even if that was not proper protocol, General Gage could have at least sent an advisor with knowledge of surveillance techniques to Fort Ticonderoga to aid in their post and give better forewarning of a potential attack. Secondly, had the British force at Fort Ticonderoga had cavalry scouts assigned to it, there would not have been much of an American Revolution. The cavalry scouts would have picked up the trail of Colonels Allen, Arnold, and the Green Mountain Boys. The Scouts could have performed reconnaissance and then reported back to the garrison commander, putting the whole fort on guard. Then the garrison commander could have contacted both the British sloop in Lake Champlain and the garrison at Fort Crown Point for further aid and reinforcements, beating back the patriot attacking force. Thirdly, with more troops at the fort, the British could have afforded a couple ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
