The Communist Manifesto Calling On The Workers Of The World
Few events in history capture the attention of scholars and the general populace alike more than
revolutionary contentious politics. Revolts and social movements have for centuries brought about the
most radical of changes to the political order of societies, at times even engulfing entire regions of the
world in a contagious, fevered upheaval. Revolutionaries have fought not only against political
systems and institutions such as aristocratic and colonial rule; they have also fought for their beliefs,
values, and ideals. In 1848, Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels published The Communist Manifesto
calling on the workers of the world to unite. Revolutionaries radicalized by the ideas of liberalism and
nationalism took to the barricades as socialists promoting the concept of regional and world revolution
helping to spark the modern spread of the notion referred to as revolutionary waves . What factors are
attributed with influencing an individual to rise up against an entrenched political system and possibly
risk their life to completely upend the historical order of things and wipe the slate clean to enable
present and future generations to create their own reality? Until recently, the power of the people and
their ability to mobilize and demand had often been underestimated. Thomas Schelling once reflected
that tyrants and subjects are in somewhat symmetrical positions. Subjects are capable of denying the
tyrant most of what it wants through refusing to collaborate. The

Modern Alchemy 1st Term Paper: The Philosopher s Stone
Thesis: In this paper, I will describe the history of the early alchemists quest for the Philosopher s
Stone, their ultimate and inevitable failure, and today s views and misunderstandings of alchemy and
the stone as a result of their actions.
If one simply purified god enough, the result would be the stone Unknown
Introduction
Lapis Philosophorum, the elixir of life, the white stone by the river, or drinkable gold The Philosopher
s Stone is a legendary material, purportedly capable of turning cheap metals into gold, curing any
illness, and bestowing immortality. The pursuit of its creation was nearly synonymous with alchemy
for centuries and it was out of these attempts that modern science was born. How did the stone
become an alchemical obsession and why was its creation ultimately abandoned? How has the stone
marked the history of alchemy and what does modern society think of both the stone ... Show more

The solid form has been said to be closer to purple, transparent, and glass like. The incomplete form,

Powers of the Stone
The first great allure of the Philosopher s Stone is the power to change common metals into gold. The
secret of infinite wealth would explain why those who sought it shrouded their research in mystery.
The second supreme power of the stone was its ability to cure illness and extend lifespan. All
infirmities might be cured, human life prolonged to its utmost limits, and mankind preserved in health
and strength of body and mind, clearness and vigour. All wounds are healed by it without difficulty,
and it is the best and surest remedy against poisons Whether or not it could bestow immortality was
debated but this too would have been reason enough on its own to pursue the

America s Nutritional Standards
As early as the 19th century, there has been increased efforts to rebuild America s nutritional
standards. The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) was organized to provide insights on
issues related to public policies such as agriculture, nutrition and food safety. In efforts to help guide
Americans in establishing healthier nutrition plans, the USDA has implicated various visual aids. As a
result of globalization, there has been various revisions done on nutrition visual aids, which was
fraught with different interpretations. These visual aids plays a significant role in the health education
of the general public in which it educates people how to eat and stay healthy. As a result of
globalization, there has been a gradual change ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
USDA s main concern during this time period, as it continuously is today, was to educate Americans
on food groups, serving sizes, and the balance between food intake and energy (Mudry 346).
Specifically in a memorable method on informing citizens on the importance of variety and
proportionality, the USDA published an illustration of a food pyramid that could communicate
quantitative information and concepts (Mudry 346). In 1991, the USDA announced the release of the
Eating Right Pyramid, an icon designed to illustrate the federal government s recommendation s for
eating healthy. It is emphasized that twentieth century development of the science of nutrition
contributes to the refiguring of public conceptions of good food and a proper diet. (Mudry 339).
Judgements are simplified as a result of the Eating Right Pyramid. Farther implicating the principle of
science of nutrition, the USDA s Eating Right Pyramid accentuates the principles of nutritionism. The
bases of nutrition include the assumptions that the hidden chemical elements, and the quantities of
those elements of a food are its most important feature and that understanding these hidden chemical
constituents will inevitably improve our health (Mudry

I Am A Candidate For Aas s Accounting At St. Paul College...
I am a candidate for AAS in Accounting at St. Paul College and University in Minneapolis, Minnesota
for a full degree in accounting. It is my long term goal to be a financial consultant. Nowadays, the
business world is changing at a faster and faster pace. The reasons for this faster pace are globalization
, information technology, and the faster pace in technological change. The role of IT has shifted over
the last decades to become an important part of how firms manage and control their resources. As the
result, IT plays a critical role in accounting. IT is the platform for accounting data and it allows certain
sophisticated queries to be performed though, IT clearly plays an important role in accounting
functions. The impact of IT in firms is broad and manifested in the most varied ways in the integrated
systems, which includes ERP systems, internet, intranet, and so on, walk hand in hand with the firm
know how. These technologies have altered the way firms work and their accounting functions.
However, the constant growing and changing field of IT has had an important impact on all levels of
the firm s organization. In this context, the term information management has emerged as the most
common name. As rue result, management information systems were developed to support the new
role of accountant. This new role forced accountants to become the interpreter of information and to
deal with the information overload. Now, the accounting department is now responsible to

One day when I was wandering around Bowers Museum, I came across nine oversized paintings
shown in an exhibition made entirely by one extraordinary 69 year old Buddhist monk in Nepal
named Shashi Dhoj Tulachan, a second generation thangka artist living. The practice of thangka art
has been around for centuries and is carried out by highly trained monks for the purpose of teaching
about Buddha and the tenets of the Buddhist religion. The paintings attracted me because they were so
big and colourful that I had to spend quite some time to fully absorb the beauty of the art. They are not

The head of the King is encircled by an irregular green areola with multi coloured flames. Beneath
Virupaksa are a woman and an elephant rising from the ocean waves. The woman may have been a
servant of Virupaksa because she is offering him a snake and is wearing typical servant clothing a
flowing skirt adorned with gold jewels. The elephant is playing an instrument that spurts out flying
dragons. Tulachan the artist must have put a lot of time and effort to create such an elaborated and
complex painting. Every little segment of this work is depicted with a great care and nicety of details,
flowing movements and vivid colours. Each colour seems so distinctive that I have the urge to think
that Tulachan did not repeat any pigment while painting this thangka. The vibrant colours he used are
made from natural mineral pigments. The painting also attracted me because of the action packed
space and the texture. Although it is covered with imagery and patterns to every inch, this thangka still
has the balance and harmony that are quite hard to find in other similar crowded paintings. My eyes
just automatically attracted by Vuripaksa s red face when I first saw the painting, then follow the
waves of the ocean to the movements of the dragons after spending some time looking and examining
it. It also has a smooth

Messages About Morality and Politics Conveyed in...
A morality play is a medieval play designed to teach the audience right from wrong. JB Priestley uses
An Inspector call to convey a moral message, which is that you should not judge people on their class
i.e. lower working class/higher class. He also expands the views of socialism within the message; this
is all made very clear by the use of dramatic devices. Although it is a morality play it is not in the
traditional format. Priestley makes it very clear in what he wants the audience to think is moral and
immoral. The play also conveys a strong political message. The play encourages the idea of socialism,

Mrs Birling could symbolise wrath, because she was angry at Eva Smith for naming herself Mrs
Birling . Shelia could symbolise envy as she was jealous or Eva smith as she thought she was pretty
and look better that she did in the dress. Gerald could symbolise lust, as he had an affair with Eva.
Being able to point out that the Birlings can be identified as the sins shows the audience how JB
Priestley highlights the idea that capitalism is itself a sin. This is also why the genre of an inspector
calls is a morality play.
Two of the Birlings show a positive reaction to The Inspectors message, who are Eric and Shelia,
however Mr and Mrs Birling give a negative reaction. Priestley uses the generation divide to show
how the younger generation symbolise hope for the future. Priestley shows that Eric and Shelia regret
what they have done, which suggests they will make an effort to improve their relationships with
others, especially towards the general public such as Eva Smith. However their parents are the
complete opposite, they are only interested in their wealth and material items.
Priestley sets out a sequence of stage directions at the beginning of the play, he applies them
successfully as a dramatic device. He uses the stage directions to show the audience that the Birling
family are cold and distant, and how supposedly capitalism has affected their lives. Highlighting he

Volkswagen Is A German Car Manufacturer That Has Changed...
Volkswagen is a German car manufacturer that has risen to become the second largest player in the
motor vehicle industry in the world, behind Toyota. The organization has approximately 590,000
employees that produce 41,000 cars daily (Bowler, 2015). The organization currently owns 12
subsidiaries that have enabled it to have a significant market share around the world (Bowler, 2015).
In addition to producing passenger jobs, it produces Audi, Skoda, Bentley, Bugatti, Porsche, Scania,
Man and Lamborghini. The organization was championed by Adolf Hitler who wanted to give German
s their first family car. Futhermore, Ivan Hirst, a British army major saved it from destruction since it
was expected to be destroyed as part of the war reparations. The significant history of the organization
as well as its impact in the world, were undermined by a revelation that it had cheated in emissions
tests. The admission followed allegations by the Environmental Protection Agency that some cars sold
by the company in the United States of America had devices that could detect when the emission
standards of the car were being tested. In response to this detection, the devices then proceeded to
implement effective invention measures that produced desirable results.
The organization had implemented a major marketing campaign in the United States of America that
was designed to increase its market share in the country. It had also trumpeted its low emissions as a

The Importance Of Nursing Homes Are The Best Places For...
With the growth of the aged population, finding the suitable accommodation for the elderly becomes a
popular topic of interests. From that, an increasing number of the elderly are sent to nursing homes,
the facilities that specialized in aged care and are regarded as the ideal places for old people. However,
some question whether nursing homes are truly the best places for the elderly. This essay will argue
that there are still some issues that need to be addressed in nursing homes, which may probably even
make the elderly s lives worse. In this case, nursing homes are not the best places for the aged people.
Firstly, the facilities and staffs of nursing homes are possibly not as adequate as one would like to
imagine. One reason that nursing homes are described as the suitable places for the olds is that they
provide specialized facilities, doctors, nurses and care recipients to protect the health for the elderly.
Australian Aged Care Quality Agency has set some standards for nursing homes and the Standard 2
Health and personal care shows that nursing homes must put efforts on Staff development, Clinical
care, Specialized nursing care needs and Medication management. However, the facilities are actually
rarely checked to ensure that they meet the standards of basic health and safety (Brodwin, 2014) as
well as the percentages of nursing homes that lack adequate staffs to properly care for patients and
have been in violation of elderly abuse laws are 91% and 36% respectively

Multitasking Myths
The multitasking myth
Multitasking is when you are doing multiple things simultaneously, for example writing an essay or
watching television while answering a phone call. The term multitasking is from a computer context.
The computer is able to run multiple applications or taps simultaneously. On the other hand, the
human body is not made for multitasking, but we do it anyway.
We live in a society where multitasking has become a big part of our life. Nowadays, it is possible to
have the television on, while writing an essay on your computer and checking your phone constantly.
The multitasking also seems a lot faster and more effective than doing just one thing at a time.
Because multitasking has become such a big deal, many scientists have studied the outcome of
multitasking and if it is a powerful or ineffective thing to do.
A research funded by the company Hewlett Packard discovered a shocking fact about multitasking.
Their research showed that when you are distracted by for example, a phone call or an email your IQ
suffers a fall more than twice than found in marijuana smokers and this threatens the work
environment. Because of our new technology, we use every day, it will be hard to change our
multitasking behavior. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

more likely to adept multitasking and process a multitasking gene . Then the multitasking gene will be

Transformation in Sweetheart of the Song Tra Bong
In Sweetheart of the Song Tra Bong, Tim O Brien gives a dynamic example of how even the deep
roots of ones culture can be modified. The focus is on the young lady, whose boyfriend manages to
have her shipped over to Vietnam from the U.S. She is then thrown into a completely foreign culture
that thousands of American GI s were experiencing. This change in culture affected the strongest and
most skilled of America s ground troops. The affects on a civilian are almost unfathomable.

Supporting Virtual Teams
Issues IT department face supporting virtual teams
First, it is very challenging to build trust within virtual teams. It is very hard for you to trust people
who you do not know well or those whom you have not observed working over time. Secondly, in
virtual teams, it is difficult to obtain group process gains (positive synergy) that many times
accompany face to face communication. Process losses (negative synergy) are more likely. It is
difficult to create team synergy and to overcome the absence of informal, interactive learning. Thirdly,
there is a feeling of isolation and detachment associated with the virtual teamwork. There is no
physical interaction which is associated with verbal and non verbal ques and thus, there is absence of
social interaction with supervisors and coworkers. Virtual team members may be less productive and
satisfied than their counterparts working face to face due to feeling of isolation and detachment.
Fourthly, it is tricky to balance technical and interpersonal skills among the virtual members. There is
a challenge for a virtual teal leader to recruit, select and retain team members who have a good
balance of technical and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Taking a Look at Greece
Research Paper Greece
Greece is a thriving country, but if it wasn t for its beautiful islands, seas, and mountains, Greece
would not be as strong of a country today. All these factors have helped Greece grow as a country.
Throughout history, various mountains such as Mount Olympus and seas such as the Mediterranean
have played an important role in the development of Greece history and culture.
Greece is a country that is surrounded by mostly water, and the sea has played an important role in its
history ( Ancient Greek Colonization.. ). The ancient Greeks were often known to be called seafarers
looking for opportunities for trade and founding new coastal sites along the Mediterranean sea.
Trading stations were the furthest outposts of Greek culture. At these trading stations, Greek goods,
such as bronze, silver, olive oil, wine and pottery were exchanged for more luxurious items ( Ancient
Greek Colonization.. ). Also, well established maritime routes around the Mediterranean sea enabled
foreigners to travel to Greece. After the military campaign of Alexander the Great, a lot more intense
trade routes were opened across Asia. These trade routes extended as far as Afghanistan and the Indus
River Valley ( Ancient Greek Colonization.. ). Not only did these trade routes help with trading goods,
it always helped in introducing Greece to new cultures and in spreading Greek culture throughout
Europe. The spread of these cultures can be known as cultural diffusion

Disadvantages Of Being A Gladiator
What was life as a gladiator? How does it affect humans today? What were the advantages and
disadvantages of being a gladiator? There are so many are so many questions about gladiators that go
unanswered, but now, thanks to archaeologists, we are able to answer those questions. Evidence shows
that being a gladiators had both advantages and disadvantages. A gladiator is an armed fighter who
entertained audiences in the Roman Empire by fighting against other gladiators, wild animals, and
criminals. In late 1st century, Nicolaus of Damascus believed they were Etruscans. A generation later,
the 1st gladiatorial ceremonies were held in 310 BC. It was held by the Campanians in celebration of
their over the Samnites. The Romans were greatly influenced by their predecessors the Etruscans. For
example, the Etruscans always sacrificed an animal before their ceremonies, so the Romans started
doing the same. Gladiators were usually slaves or criminals, but could also be free men. Professionals
gladiators were usually free men, but they were all treated as slaves. Free men still wore shackles and
had to do whatever they were told. Although they were treated as slaves, free men would often be the
most popular amongst the crowd. Criminals and slaves would be set free if they survived 3 5 years as
a gladiator. More than 100 gladiator schools were built throughout the Roman Empire. Gladiators
were sent to school depending on if they were a criminal or not.

METHODOLOGY
Two experiments were done last time due to some circumstances that made the class to lack time and
to be late compared to the official class syllabus. The students were able to accomplished the job by
equally dividing the time into two. The first experiment was about Kundt s tube. In this experiment,
longitudinal sound waves will be produced in a metal rod and an air column. Using the properties of
wave motion , the frequency of the sound and the speed of sound in the rod can be determined.
For this experiment setup, following materials are needed such as a Kundt s tube apparatus, a meter
stick, a piece of cloth, a thermometer, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore, the temperature is directly proportional to the velocity of sound in air. Comparing the
velocity of sound in the rod and the velocity of sound in air, the velocity of sound in the rod is greater
than the velocity of sound air since the molecular arrangement of solids are very much compact that
allows the waves to easily travel along the medium. The molecular arrangement of gases is far apart
from each other. Because of this, it makes it hard for the wave to travel the energy from one particle to
the other thus allowing the velocity of the sound to move slower.

The Plea Bargain Is A Vital Part Of The Criminal Justice...
The plea bargain is a vital part of the criminal justice system today. Before the 1800s when an offender
was caught there would be a trial and verdict. The plea bargain are for defendant s to plead guilty to a
lesser offense or to at least one charge especially if there are multiple indictments. Defendants will
plead guilty in hopes of leniency, and at least 90 percent of criminal cases end in a plea bargains. A
majority of criminal cases in many jurisdictions will end in a plea bargaining. In the case North
Carolina v. Alford, Mr. Alford is accused of Capital murder. The penalty for a guilty plea is
imprisonment for life, however, if the defendant pleads innocent and the jury rules him guilty the
death penalty attaches. Prior to the trial, Mr. Alford accepted a plea bargain. The bargaining requires
him to plead guilty to murder in the second degree, the penalty of which is 30 years.
Later on Alford does appeals his case, stating that his agreement to the bargain was involuntary as it
was driven by fear of the death penalty. Mr. Alford s conviction was overturned however, the Supreme
Court states that a guilty plea is a voluntary decision and is not compelled within his Fifth Amendment
rights of Self Incrimination. In a 6 to 3 decision, the Court then reverses the appeal and reinstates his
conviction. This is a great example of how the option of plea bargaining continues to be controversial.
This case shows how plea bargaining can work both in favor and negatively

The Secrets And Personal Thoughts
Consequently, this diary uncovered all of her secrets and personal thoughts. This act of exposure is
similar to the disclosure and photographic taking of Tereska Draws Her Home. Documentation of
personal accounts helps the rest of the world understand and learn, such as from the faults of the
government and military systems. Tereska s illustration is personal, and extrudes the immense impact
the Nazis and concentration camps had on young children. Other children like Tereska drew their
interpretations of their home as well during this same assignment in other photographs Seymour had
taken. These other children drew recognizable images of homes and concrete buildings, most of which
consisted of squares and identifiable figures. Conversely, Tereska did now draw anything so
identifiable. Instead, she drew clumsy, large scribbles that fill up the entire space given to her. There is
a relevant circular motion to her drawing, and her drawing is so large that it even crosses over in the
child s drawing on her left. At one point, she even draws over her name at the top. She is attempting to
cover the entire space in these circular scribbles, with the inspiration of her childhood home, a
concentration camp. This image not only speaks largely of the detrimental psychological effect
concentration camps had on children, but Tereska s art speaks largely to the topic of the psychology of
children s art. Tereska s response of confusion and distraught is displayed too close for comfort.

In 1964 President Lyndon B. Johnson declared a war on poverty on the United States of America; in
his state of the union address he declared that Our aim is not only to relieve the symptoms of poverty,
but to cure it and above all to prevent it. Fifty years later 46 million Americans live in poverty in
households where the government considers their income scarcely adequate (Lowrey, 2014). President

To My Dear And Loving Husband Essay
Marriage: any of the diverse forms of interpersonal union established in various parts of the world to
form a familial bond that is recognized legally, religiously, or socially, granting the participating
partners mutual conjugal rights and responsibilities... (CITATION) In the definition of marriage there
is no mention of love, yet in western civilization, love is considered the deciding factor in taking that
leap. Anne Bradstreet wrote in her poem To My Dear and Loving Husband If ever two were one, then
surely we. If ever man were loved by wife, then thee; if ever wife was happy in a man, Compare with
me ye women if you can (CITATION). Even though she lived in a Puritan home, Bradshaw freely
expressed her love for her husband. This expression could have been viewed as just as radical as
homosexual marriage is today. One of the biggest phrases people supporting the Lesbian, Gay,
Bisexual, Transgender, LGBT, movement use is, Love is love. People associated with this movement
also ask heterosexuals what they would do if marriage was not allowed to them. Yet the Hindi
philosophy says that one marries, and then falls in love. Is the reason America is in such turmoil over
the various types of marriage in comparison to other countries because this country loves first, and
marries second? If love were taken out of the business deal that marriage essentially is, would
America be in less turmoil? America as a country would be better economically and socially if

Isolating Limpers Essay
♠ ♣ ♦ ♥
In today s games, isolating limpers is a well known tactic that the vast majority of regs actively
integrate into their strategy. This is because playing in position versus weaker players is highly
profitable via multiple avenues. Immediately, we can win money when our opponent folds pre flop to
our isolation raise. Even if called, we often benefit from the post flop mistakes our opponents make
out of position. This is because players who limp are typically trying to see a cheap flop to try to make
a hand. Once they call, they will usually play fit or fold, setting up a profitable c bet scenario.
Additionally, limping players are also notorious for hanging onto their hand with any piece of the
board for multiple streets. Therefore, when we do connect, we can take them to value town.
When your average poker player thinks of a short stacker, he likely conjures images of desperation all
in moves by players without any skill who are resigned to being a one trick pony. While this may
sometimes be the case, as I do often see poor players buying in short, the popular view creates a
powerful weapon accessible to those willing to wield it. As a short stacked player, we can ... Show

Invariably, what I always seem to miss most is the ability to isolate bad players with pre flop
commiting plays, such as shoving or 3rd and going. And while I otherwise feel comfortable deeper
stacked, I still always come to the same conclusion. In the case of dealing with limpers, full stacks
seemingly have but one option; small isolation raises. In this situation, playing a full stack severely
inhibits a player s route to maximum profit against most bad players. Therefore, in the case of
isolating limpers, playing a 100 big blind starting stack seems to be much more of a one trick pony

Greek Burial
Burials are one of the most used archaeological sites for scholars to gain insight and information on all
civilizations, and in this case Greek civilizations. In his book Ethnic Identity, Stuart Hall makes a
strong argument illustrating that social structures may be articulated and projected through funerary
ritual and this may be undeniable (). Greek burial customs depict a parallel with society and their
standards of living throughout time; focusing on the Bronze Age and into the Classical Period, the
changing society of Ancient Greek shows the development of these burials.
Beginning with Bronze Age Greece, Heinrich Schliemann found and excavated one of the two most

Cultural Differences And Personality Types Essay
When a person announce their getting married, they say it with the hopes of eternal love of their future
spouse. Not realizing that conflict occurs, but not with the spouse but the family members. Some of
the conflict may be due to various cultural differences and personality types. Culture is the belief,
custom, knowledge, rituals, language and other things that such as a way of thinking or life. As
cultural differences is determine on what we believe. Mayer (2012) mentions, that beliefs are what s
important to an individual. And if the conflict arises, individuals take things personally because it
becomes personal of what the individual believe is right as it may be wrong in the eyes of another
person. So having the differences, others are not at the same level and conflict arises. Depending on
how it s manage depends on one s culture norm and the impact on family gatherings. Therefore, one
has to understand their own triggers and avoid them while interacting negatively with others. Coming
from a culture that defined my beliefs and raised in a custom that model the definition of an extrovert,
I oppose to the behavior of others. An extrovert is one that welcome others and treat them with
alacrity, which is why, I became a target to be taken advantage of by my in laws. My conflict is not

Essay on Voter Habits Based on Demographics
Voter Habits Based on Demographics
Abstract
In this paper I intend to evaluate the voting habits of the American public. I will look at how race, sex,
education level, marital status, income level, current employment status, and age affects whether or
not people vote. I am also going to examine which political parties these groups have historically
voted for, why they vote for them, how this has changed over the years if it has changed at all, and
why it has changed.
I believe that from previous voting information you could fairly well predict the voters choices. I m
not saying you could foretell the outcome of upcoming elections, but you could figure out what to
expect given the state of current affairs.

This difference is made up of people who do not have United States citizenship. This is important for
the consideration of racial and ethnic differences in voting rates. Immigration has affected the non
citizen population of many groups. Only two percent of Non Hispanic whites are not citizens and six
percent of Blacks are not citizens. This is in stark contrast to the thirty eight percent of Hispanics and
thirty eight percent of Asians and Pacific Islanders who do not have citizenship. This can be seen in
the nineteen percent of voting age Hispanics, Asians and Pacific Islanders who voted compared to the
thirty percent of the voting age citizen population who voted. This is illustrated well in the following
graph.
The overall percentage of 18 and over citizens who voted in the 2002 congressional election was at the
second lowest with the 1998 election being the lowest. There has been an increase in the overall
number of people eligible to vote, but a decrease in the percentage that register to vote and the
percentage of registered voters that do. I believe this comes from an increase in the sensationalism of
the presidential elections that over shadows the congressional elections. The hype and prominence isn
t present so it tends to slide by unnoticed. You can see this in the average difference of thirteen percent
more voters in presidential elections since 1964. The people who do vote in these elections are the
ones, I

Battle of Chattanooga:
Effects of Leadership on Morale,Strategy, and the Tide of Battle
Kayla D. Jones
North Dakota State University
ABSTRACT
This paper displays the impact in battle and on troops of key characteristics that differentiate the
distinction between an effective and ineffective leader. Using the analysis of the Battle of Chattanooga
and various memoirs from General Sherman and Grant, biographies about Grant, and reliable
resources from researchers, such as J.F.C. Fuller, and the Library of Congress, this paper details the
events of the battle and the events that preceded the battle in direct correlation with the leadership
decisions that impacted the outcome of these events. The leaderships being directly compared in this
analysis are that of General William S. Rosecrans and Major General Ulysses S. Grant. For the
purposes of this comparison, these leaderships at Chattanooga are divided into two phases: Phase I
being Rosecrans , and Phase II being Grant s impact at Chattanooga.

Similarities And Differences In Flowers For Algernon
Flowers For Algernon by Daniel Keyes is a piece of literature that asseverates that perhaps
intelligence is a seamless fundamental. Precisely, for 34 old Charlie Gordon who initially wants to
attain intelligence because he has been dimwitted throughout his whole entire life. Mr.Gordon is given
an opportunity to be chosen for an operation. Fortunately for Mr. Gordon he happens to be the perfect
candidate for the operation that will result to be semi successful. As for Charley a 1968 film that
portrays a 34 year old who seeks to acquire intelligence as well, since he has been futile, intellectually.
He undergoes an operation that is semi auspicious. Both wonderful masterpieces have similarities as
well as differences. Flowers For Algernon and Charley have the same characters for the most part.
Charlie/Charley is the main character of both works, with the exception of a petty spelling difference
that in the film it is spelt as Charley rather than Charlie. Mr. Gordon s occupation of Flowers For
Algernon and Charley are quite disparate. For example, in the condensed version of Flowers For
Algernon Charlie works in a plastic manufacturing factory. While in the 1968 film Charley works in a
bakery. Both in the book and film Algernon portrays a very witted and agile mouse. There is no
differences of Algernon within the book or film. In addition Ms.Kinnian is still the same character
which is Charlie s/Charley s teacher. The book and film both have Dr.Strauss and

This person is Jean Jacques Rousseau. He is a famous philosopher, composer, and writer from the time
period called the Age of Reason or the Enlightenment. He influenced many later philosophers and
educators such as Maria Montessori and Jacques Derrida. Most of Rousseau s accomplishments were
novels. The most famous novel Rousseau wrote was called Julie, Ou la Nouvelle Heloise . This novel
was 800 pages and was a romantic novel about a Swiss women. This novel was very important
because it sparked a revolution of romantic books for the future. The reason that it was so influential
was that in this time period not many books were fiction and much less romance. When people
enjoyed this novel they got inspired and wrote their own. Rousseau also wrote many books about
society, one of these books was called Emile, or on Education . It was about education should be and

Bertolt Brecht was a German playwright, theatre critic,...
Bertolt Brecht was a German playwright, theatre critic, and director. He created and developed epic
theatre with the belief that theatre is not solely for entertainment but also tools for politics and social
activism. Previous theatre performances offered a form of escapism. The audience would become
emotionally invested in the performance. In contrast to the suspension of disbelief, Brecht never
wanted the audience to fall into the performance. He wanted the audience to make judgments on the
argument dealt in the play. The aim of epic theatre is to detach the audience from any emotional
connection in order for them to critically review the story. The ultimate goal of this theatre is creating

In order to break the illusions Brecht used various techniques. Only the necessary props are used
during the play to portray themes or ideas to help indicate a character s status or profession. This
technique helps the audience acknowledge the idea of watching a play rather being emotionally
attached to the play. When there are few props prepared, the play itself does not look realistic causing
the audience to think about the situation. The performance seems realistic if minor props are also used
during the play. However, Brecht did not want this. He wanted the audience to be constantly aware of
the idea that they are watching a performance on stage. To prevent melodrama or emotion from
overtaking the audience, comic songs and music are often incorporated to provide emotional details.
This can be extremely disturbing to the audience unfamiliar to Theatre of Alienation yet it leads to
cheerful, upbeat tunes with disturbing lyrics. Musicians, lighting mechanics and changing costumes
are visible during the performance. This technique also allows that audience to be emotionally
detached from the story because they are aware of them watching a play. When audiences are not
suspended in disbelief, their intellectual response to the drama increases. The stage uses white light.

In marine biology this year we have covered many topics. We began the by learning to snorkel safely,
in this topic we spent a couple of weeks learning the correct techniques and safety measures to snorkel
safely. During this time, we went on many trips out of school to go on dives as a group to practice our
skills for the final practical examination. After completing the snorkelling component of the marine
biology course we went on to learn about how to maintain a temperate marine aquarium. In this topic
we firstly learnt how to set up a temperate marine aquarium, then went fishing to fil our tanks. Once
these tasks where completed we learnt about all of the step needed to ensure that the aquarium was
successful in keeping the marine animals alive, this included learning about the pump system, how to
clean the tank and how to do the various chemical tests to see if the water was in a suitable condition
for the animals to live in. after learning about how to maintain a temperate aquarium we looked into

Barbie Stereotypes
There have been several articles calling attention to the images children are exposed in cartoons, or
Disney productions, but what about the toys they play with? In the death grip of my two year old
sister, like many other young girls, lies a fairy princess Barbie doll. Barbie has been the toy of choice
for girls everywhere since her debut fifty years ago, representing the ideal girl with a perfect life to
match that can not be achieved. Barbie and other dolls alike negatively affect young girls causing
body image issues and low self esteem.
Since 1965, Barbie, and more recently, the Bratz line of dolls, have been the poster children for
beauty, despite their grotesquely disproportionate appearance. Barbie and Bratz dolls were meant to
represents average girls in their teen years tall, flowing hair and incredibly thin, a body image that is
not possible for every girl, though Mattel s slogan Barbie can be anything! And so can you! might
suggest otherwise. For the company to insist young girls compare themselves to the piece of plastic
that is a Barbie doll, is completely outrageous. Looking at the doll s physical appearance, it s clear that
a real person could never embody this image. Breaking down the doll s structure, there are feet readily
bent for high heels, long muscular legs and thin arms, not to mention the fact that the head of a Barbie
or Bratz doll exceeds the width of it s waist! To even begin to entertain this image is unrealistic. What

Deception, Trickery, and Concealment in Much Ado about Nothing and Macbeth
William Shakespeare s classic romantic comedy, Much Ado about Nothing and tragic history, Macbeth
revolve around the theme of deception, trickery, and concealment. There are portrayals within these
two plays that depict deception and trickery as merely harmless and even beneficial. In some cases the
characters are thoroughly masked in their lies; for ill or well, they are hiding who they truly are. In
other cases, the person they attempt to hide is merely obscured, the masks being only a slight deterrent
from their real personalities. Sometimes they are harmless diversions; sometimes they are even
beneficial tools to be utilized for one s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She professes to scorn romance in general, but her romantic side is revealed, not only when she
confesses her previous love for Benedick (278 282), but in her constant support of Hero s romantic
attraction to Claudio at the start of the play most notably in this scene when she encourages Hero to
kiss her knew fiancé. Despite her earlier depiction, she is clearly hiding a more tender, even
conventional side than is often assumed.
Benedick is himself much like Beatrice. As she professes to scorn men and marriage, he does likewise
with women. As she seems to mock and reject the common custom, so he does as well. For her every
condemnation of men as undeserving of women, he has a parallel condemnation for women. He seems
to be the masculine mirror of her, hiding a similarly dualistic character whose romantic side and
attention to convention will become apparent once he is told that Beatrice loves him. Then he will
spend his time musing on her perfection wise as she is but for loving [him] and undeniably fair and
virtuous and writing her poetry he cannot manage to rhyme. This

Freud s Theory of Psychosexual Development
Oral to Genital stage, how it affected me as an individual.
Submitted By:
Submitted To:
Freud s theory of psychosexual development is based on erogenous zones which are important stages
of development. According to the theory, there are five stages throughout one s life: Oral phase, anal
phase, phallic phase, latency phase, and genital stage. Each stage is involved in particular conflicts
that must be resolved before moving on to the next stage of development. All the stages have two
things in common: each stage has their own comfort and pleasure source. Freud believes one s

I was more of a troublemaker with group of friends with same sex. My peer relationships increased by
hanging out and attending same school club activities. Even though my sexual urges repressed, I
remember that the urges were not completely repressed. From grade 1 to 3, I had a crush on one
particular girl, but I was too shy to express my feelings because it was not normal for other students at
my age it seemed. It seemed that I may have skipped my latency stage or it was not noticeable. In this
stage, I did not stop chewing pencil. It got worse and had to talk to my parents about it. The conflict of
sucking and biting of oral stage was resolved during my latency phase when I was introduced to
chewing gum.
Last stage, genital phase, occurs from puberty to adulthood. In this stage many things happen. Puberty
kicks in, thus change in body for reproduction occurs. Also, increase in hormonal changes activates
the sexual urges which were dormant for years. Sexual attraction and interest of opposite sex is
increased. Desire for independence is still great, but still needs supervision from their parents. I had
my first girlfriend when I was 12, before my puberty. Unfortunately, she had a car accident and passed
away. This event caused my sexual urges to repress greatly because I was afraid similar things might
happen to others. For 4 years, I avoided talking to opposite sex and the times I had to talk, I felt
scared.

  • 2. The Communist Manifesto Calling On The Workers Of The World Few events in history capture the attention of scholars and the general populace alike more than revolutionary contentious politics. Revolts and social movements have for centuries brought about the most radical of changes to the political order of societies, at times even engulfing entire regions of the world in a contagious, fevered upheaval. Revolutionaries have fought not only against political systems and institutions such as aristocratic and colonial rule; they have also fought for their beliefs, values, and ideals. In 1848, Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels published The Communist Manifesto calling on the workers of the world to unite. Revolutionaries radicalized by the ideas of liberalism and nationalism took to the barricades as socialists promoting the concept of regional and world revolution helping to spark the modern spread of the notion referred to as revolutionary waves . What factors are attributed with influencing an individual to rise up against an entrenched political system and possibly risk their life to completely upend the historical order of things and wipe the slate clean to enable present and future generations to create their own reality? Until recently, the power of the people and their ability to mobilize and demand had often been underestimated. Thomas Schelling once reflected that tyrants and subjects are in somewhat symmetrical positions. Subjects are capable of denying the tyrant most of what it wants through refusing to collaborate. The practice of thangka art has been around for centuries and is carried out by highly trained monks for the purpose of teaching about Buddha and the tenets of the Buddhist religion. The elephant is playing an instrument that spurts out flying dragons. Tulachan the artist must have put a lot of time and effort to create such an elaborated and complex painting. Every little segment of this work is depicted with a great care and nicety of details, flowing movements and vivid colours. Each colour seems so distinctive that I have the urge to think that Tulachan did not repeat any pigment while painting this thangka. The vibrant colours he used are made from natural mineral pigments. The painting also attracted me because of the action packed space and the texture. JB Priestley uses An Inspector call to convey a moral message, which is that you should not judge people on their class i.e. lower working class/higher class. He also expands the views of socialism within the message; this is all made very clear by the use of dramatic devices. Although it is a morality play it is not in the traditional format. Priestley makes it very clear in what he wants the audience to think is moral and immoral. The play also conveys a strong political message. Being able to point out that the Birlings can be identified as the sins shows the audience how JB Priestley highlights the idea that capitalism is itself a sin. This is also why the genre of an inspector calls is a morality play. Two of the Birlings show a positive reaction to The Inspectors message, who are Eric and Shelia, however Mr and Mrs Birling give a negative reaction. Priestley uses the generation divide to show how the younger generation symbolise hope for the future. Priestley shows that Eric and Shelia regret what they have done, which suggests they will make an effort to improve their relationships with others, especially towards the general public such as Eva Smith. However their parents are the complete opposite, they are only interested in their wealth and material items. From that, an increasing number of the elderly are sent to nursing homes, the facilities that specialized in aged care and are regarded as the ideal places for old people. However, some question whether nursing homes are truly the best places for the elderly. This essay will argue that there are still some issues that need to be addressed in nursing homes, which may probably even make the elderly s lives worse. In this case, nursing homes are not the best places for the aged people. Firstly, the facilities and staffs of nursing homes are possibly not as adequate as one would like to imagine. One reason that nursing homes are described as the suitable places for the olds is that they provide specialized facilities, doctors, nurses and care recipients to protect the health for the elderly. Australian Aged Care Quality Agency has set some standards for nursing homes and the Standard 2 Health and personal care shows that nursing homes must put efforts on Staff development, Clinical care, Specialized nursing care needs and Medication management. However, the facilities are actually rarely checked to ensure that they meet the standards of basic health and safety (Brodwin, 2014) as well as the percentages of nursing homes that lack adequate staffs to properly care for patients and have been in violation of elderly abuse laws are 91% and 36% respectively ... Before the 1800s when an offender was caught there would be a trial and verdict. The plea bargain are for defendant s to plead guilty to a lesser offense or to at least one charge especially if there are multiple indictments. Defendants will plead guilty in hopes of leniency, and at least 90 percent of criminal cases end in a plea bargains. A majority of criminal cases in many jurisdictions will end in a plea bargaining. In the case North Carolina v. Alford, Mr. Alford is accused of Capital murder. The penalty for a guilty plea is imprisonment for life, however, if the defendant pleads innocent and the jury rules him guilty the death penalty attaches. Prior to the trial, Mr. Alford accepted a plea bargain. The bargaining requires him to plead guilty to murder in the second degree, the penalty of which is 30 years. Later on Alford does appeals his case, stating that his agreement to the bargain was involuntary as it was driven by fear of the death penalty. Mr. Alford s conviction was overturned however, the Supreme Court states that a guilty plea is a voluntary decision and is not compelled within his Fifth Amendment rights of Self Incrimination. Where serious crime is involved, the decision to disclose is fairly easy: murder, rape, kidnapping, child abuse. However, minor fraud and damage to property would not justify disclosure. Public safety is a common area that we get involved in. Those who continue to drive with uncontrolled alcohol dependence, day time epileptic seizures, hypoglycaemia and other such conditions where their driving license is not valid should inform the DVLA and if they refuse then we have a duty to inform the DVLA without consent. I always inform the patient that I am doing this. Where there is a threat to others from a serious communicable disease eg HIV then confidentiality may be breached to inform sexual contacts. This act of exposure is similar to the disclosure and photographic taking of Tereska Draws Her Home. Documentation of personal accounts helps the rest of the world understand and learn, such as from the faults of the government and military systems. Tereska s illustration is personal, and extrudes the immense impact the Nazis and concentration camps had on young children. Other children like Tereska drew their interpretations of their home as well during this same assignment in other photographs Seymour had taken. These other children drew recognizable images of homes and concrete buildings, most of which consisted of squares and identifiable figures. Conversely, Tereska did now draw anything so identifiable. Instead, she drew clumsy, large scribbles that fill up the entire space given to her. There is a relevant circular motion to her drawing, and her drawing is so large that it even crosses over in the child s drawing on her left. At one point, she even draws over her name at the top. She is attempting to cover the entire space in these circular scribbles, with the inspiration of her childhood home, a concentration camp. This image not only speaks largely of the detrimental psychological effect concentration camps had on children, but Tereska s art speaks largely to the topic of the psychology of children s art. Tereska s response of confusion and distraught is displayed too close for comfort. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

To My Dear And Loving Husband Essay Marriage: any of the diverse forms of interpersonal union established in various parts of the world to form a familial bond that is recognized legally, religiously, or socially, granting the participating partners mutual conjugal rights and responsibilities... (CITATION) In the definition of marriage there is no mention of love, yet in western civilization, love is considered the deciding factor in taking that leap. Anne Bradstreet wrote in her poem To My Dear and Loving Husband If ever two were one, then surely we. If ever man were loved by wife, then thee; if ever wife was happy in a man, Compare with me ye women if you can (CITATION). Even though she lived in a Puritan home, Bradshaw freely expressed her love for her husband. This expression could have been viewed as just as radical as homosexual marriage is today. One of the biggest phrases people supporting the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, LGBT, movement use is, Love is love. People associated with this movement also ask heterosexuals what they would do if marriage was not allowed to them. Yet the Hindi philosophy says that one marries, and then falls in love. Is the reason America is in such turmoil over the various types of marriage in comparison to other countries because this country loves first, and marries second? If love were taken out of the business deal that marriage essentially is, would America be in less turmoil? America as a country would be better economically and socially if marriage was not ... This is because playing in position versus weaker players is highly profitable via multiple avenues. Immediately, we can win money when our opponent folds pre flop to our isolation raise. Even if called, we often benefit from the post flop mistakes our opponents make out of position. This is because players who limp are typically trying to see a cheap flop to try to make a hand. Once they call, they will usually play fit or fold, setting up a profitable c bet scenario. Additionally, limping players are also notorious for hanging onto their hand with any piece of the board for multiple streets. Therefore, when we do connect, we can take them to value town. When your average poker player thinks of a short stacker, he likely conjures images of desperation all in moves by players without any skill who are resigned to being a one trick pony. Using the analysis of the Battle of Chattanooga and various memoirs from General Sherman and Grant, biographies about Grant, and reliable resources from researchers, such as J.F.C. Barbie and Bratz dolls were meant to represents average girls in their teen years tall, flowing hair and incredibly thin, a body image that is not possible for every girl, though Mattel s slogan Barbie can be anything! And so can you! might suggest otherwise. For the company to insist young girls compare themselves to the piece of plastic that is a Barbie doll, is completely outrageous. Looking at the doll s physical appearance, it s clear that a real person could never embody this image. Breaking down the doll s structure, there are feet readily bent for high heels, long muscular legs and thin arms, not to mention the fact that the head of a Barbie or Bratz doll exceeds the width of it s waist! Deception, Trickery, and Concealment in Much Ado about Nothing and Macbeth William Shakespeare s classic romantic comedy, Much Ado about Nothing and tragic history, Macbeth revolve around the theme of deception, trickery, and concealment. There are portrayals within these two plays that depict deception and trickery as merely harmless and even beneficial. In some cases the characters are thoroughly masked in their lies; for ill or well, they are hiding who they truly are. In other cases, the person they attempt to hide is merely obscured, the masks being only a slight deterrent from their real personalities. She professes to scorn romance in general, but her romantic side is revealed, not only when she confesses her previous love for Benedick (278 282), but in her constant support of Hero s romantic attraction to Claudio at the start of the play most notably in this scene when she encourages Hero to kiss her knew fiancé. Despite her earlier depiction, she is clearly hiding a more tender, even conventional side than is often assumed. Benedick is himself much like Beatrice. As she professes to scorn men and marriage, he does likewise with women. As she seems to mock and reject the common custom, so he does as well. For her every condemnation of men as undeserving of women, he has a parallel condemnation for women. He seems to be the masculine mirror of her, hiding a similarly dualistic character whose romantic side and attention to convention will become apparent once he is told that Beatrice loves him. Then he will spend his time musing on her perfection wise as she is but for loving [him] and undeniably fair and virtuous and writing her poetry he cannot manage to rhyme. This ... Even though my sexual urges repressed, I remember that the urges were not completely repressed. From grade 1 to 3, I had a crush on one particular girl, but I was too shy to express my feelings because it was not normal for other students at my age it seemed. It seemed that I may have skipped my latency stage or it was not noticeable. In this stage, I did not stop chewing pencil. It got worse and had to talk to my parents about it. The conflict of sucking and biting of oral stage was resolved during my latency phase when I was introduced to chewing gum. Last stage, genital phase, occurs from puberty to adulthood. In this stage many things happen. Puberty kicks in, thus change in body for reproduction occurs. Also, increase in hormonal changes activates the sexual urges which were dormant for years. Sexual attraction and interest of opposite sex is increased. Desire for independence is still great, but still needs supervision from their parents. I had my first girlfriend when I was 12, before my puberty. Unfortunately, she had a car accident and passed away. This event caused my sexual urges to repress greatly because I was afraid similar things might happen to others. For 4 years, I avoided talking to opposite sex and the times I had to talk, I felt scared. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
