Personal Narrative-Memoir s Shoot The Messenger
Yeah, I directed an episode of Haven in its last season. And that was something I had always been
working toward even before I worked on Haven. I ve shadowed directors as much as I could and as
long as I could in the hopes of one day getting to direct myself. And that actually came to pass, and the
experience was beyond my wildest dreams. It was just incredible. I loved it. I was terrified and just
completely overwhelmed the whole time with a combination of sheer terror and pure joy. It was
amazing. Then I assume that s something you d like to do more of in the future. Definitely. Definitely.
So in addition to directing, are you thinking one day you may do some writing? Yeah, I ve been doing
some writing for a little while now. And yeah, I would love to be able to have some of ... Show more

cn_bjbpwoaaaw3i.png Sure. There s a series called Shoot the Messenger which is going to be
premiering on CBC in Canada in October. So that s something wildly different than the things we ve
been talking about. It s a dramatic eight part series about an investigative journalist who stumbles on a
case that quickly pulls her into this rabbit hole of political intrigue and murder and sex and drugs and
all sorts of dangerous and wild stuff. So it s something very different. But I play an investigative
journalist her partner and so the two of us are trying to figure it all out the show starts out with a
murder. And it gets more and more confusing and more and more dangerous. It s going to be a pretty
wild show. It sounds interesting, but of course, since it s in Canada, we will have to wait to see it.
Sometimes it upsets me because there are these great shows up in Canada that we can t watch Totally.
but of course, it happens that s there s shows here that you guys aren t able to watch. Right. For now,
Shoot the Messenger is premiering on CBC. But hopefully it will be available internationally,

Designing A Remake Centric Film Festival From A Project Essay
Research
I got the idea to create a remake centric film festival from a project I did in another film class. In that
class, my group and I decided to do a presentation on horror film remakes. While trying to decide on
while two films to talk about, I found that a multitude of horror films had been remade. I continued
looking up films that had been remade and eventually made it through the lengthy list of horror films,
and found other genres that have had remakes. Once I found enough content to pad out a film line up,
I settled on remakes as my theme and began my research on the actual film festival aspect.
After seeing that the list of film remakes was dominated by the horror genre, I decided that T2 would
not be another horror fest. I tried to select films from a broad range of genres, all while making sure
that the horror genre was well represented. I was astonished that the fourth horror film ever made was
a remake of the first horror film ever made (Follows, The Scale of Hollywood Remakes and Reboots
), Georges Méliès 1896 Le Manoir du diable, was remade into The Haunted Castle in 1897 by George
Albert Smith. Horror is the most commonly remade genre because societal fears have evolved over
time, and though the stories remain the same, the scare tactics are rejuvenated to be more effective.
The production/success of remakes has declined over the past decade (Follows, The Scale of
Hollywood Remakes and Reboots ), but it appears that remakes are set to make a

Globalization Is The Increasing Inter Connectedness Of...
1. Globalization is defined in the book as the increasing inter connectedness of people and places
through converging economic, political, and cultural activities. Cultures and countries are now linked
much more than they used to be in the past as technology continues to grow. It s becoming cheaper
and easier to set up technology in lesser developed countries as well as that it continues to grow in
more developed countries. Fast food restaurants are now changing and transferring to other countries
and changing the menu to the culture of that country in an attempt to make more money. These
restaurants from America transferring to other countries are causing diets to become unhealthy much
as they have in America. Most American s don t go a week without eating at some fast food restaurant.
Western consumerist culture has also transferred. America is absolutely infatuated with spending to
get what they think they need when in actuality they don t. Most scholars believe that economic
organization is a large part of globalization. It includes global communications that link all people. It
also includes better transportation systems, transnational business strategies, and promotion of free
trade. There are many positives to globalization. One of which is more money being put into lesser
developed countries. This is a plus because this causes people in those countries to be able to succeed
and support themselves. Also governments of different countries can better work together

Andrew Kennedy s Article On Credibility Of The Author
Article No.: 4
Credibility of the author:
The author of this source is Chloe Kennedy, a regarded journalist with over 650 articles written
spanning over 16 years. Within this vast experience, she has worked for numerous publications, with
the City Messenger, the Leader Messenger, The Advertiser, the News Review Messenger and the
Standard Messenger being some of the few. Being so widely read, it is likely that this will increase the
reliability of her work; mistakes are less likely where a reputation may be implicated. However,
though the City Messenger appears to be a legitimate newspaper, by nature such articles may not
always be fully reliable, and this must be taken into consideration. As no more information could be

Opposing opinion was that residential heritage properties were of the high value that their owners had
paid a premium to secure.
Heritage buildings have higher capital growth than newer properties, as they are not competitors of
newer developments.
Most heritage listed homes should achieve an increase in value, provided they are well maintained.
Residents themselves consider a listed home to be of higher value, and want to see their homes and
other heritage homes preserved.
However, possible decreases in value as a result of development prohibition could also stem from
heritage legislation.
Any loss in value because of listing could be offset by grants from the government available
specifically for this purpose.
Evaluation of information:
This article s primary sources are the opinions of government candidates, and it provides no evidence
as to the validity of these statements, other than corroboration between the four men. As such, it has
unsubstantiated opinion, a detriment to reliability.
Although the amount of research conducted is valid to the nature of the source, it is insufficient for in
depth study purposes. There are no official studies or other valid sources used in this article and a

Culture Values
Texts reflect the culture and values of their eras by presenting and addressing perspectives of the
composers on the issues of the context. The poem The End and the Beginning by Wislawa
Szymborska and the Austrian film 71 Fragments of a Chronology of Chance by Michael Haneke
accomplish this by exemplifying issues in 1990s society such as the increasing influence of media and
the breakdown of interpersonal communication.
The End and the Beginning is a Polish poem by Wislawa Szymborska which captures a wars
aftermath on its innocent citizens and how, in time, both the war and its origins are forgotten. It thus
shows how the values of a country or society may change over time as the views and opinions of its
citizens change.
The overall ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This fragmentation is also visually portrayed through the jigsaw like paper game. Part way through the
film, a student fails to solve the puzzle leading to an outburst of anger, foreshadowing his final act of
violence.
Haneke has also used subtle film techniques to add to the sense of a breakdown of communication.
The camera is always positioned in such a way that makes the audience feel detached from the
characters. Rather than connecting emotionally with the characters, the audience is made to analyse
them, thus reflecting the emotionless state which our society has assumed with changing values. The
characters themselves are not named, allowing them to become representative of types within society.
The use of media is also present throughout the film with Haneke showing the increasingly invasive
presence of media within society as values change and mankind becomes more technological and
industrialised. By repeating the same articles at the end with the embedding of the films event as
another story, Haneke comments on how the media subsumes any disturbance into the even surface of
society and integrates it into the unending stream of trivialised information.
The film also serves a didactic purpose, as Haneke highlights and criticises the blatant use of violence
in Hollywood action films, saying that his films are intended as polemical statements against the

The Great Depression Of The 1920 S
Following WW I in the 1920 s, there was a decade of an economical explosion. The post war era
brought about many changes. Businesses showed great profits, migration to big cities of industrial
companies occurred with the hopes of making a better life, people were given the opportunity to
purchase things on credit, while others borrowed money making poor decisions buying high priced
stocks with the intention of selling stocks for a profits to repay lenders. When Black Tuesday occurred
on October 29, 1929, this marked the beginning of the Great Depression that left devastating
economic hardships for the American people. Although it was always my belief that the stock market
crash was the sole contributor of the Great Depression, there was ... Show more content on

S. and other countries that had industries charged high import taxes on good that were offered for sale.
These taxes prevented counties from selling the goods they needed to earn the money to repay loans to
the U.S. banks. In a three year period over 9,000 banks went bankrupt or had to close their doors to
avoid bankruptcy which led to a decline in purchasing powers. When the banks started failing people
lost their saving because the banks were uninsured. The banks weren t as willing to offer new loans.
At the same time this was occurring, there was the distribution of unequal income. Businesses were
showing great profits during the 1920 s, however the working class only got a small portion of this
wealth with their low wages. People with low incomes purchased merchandise on credit. People
thought that they had more money to spend on materialistic possessions using credit. Advertising
increased, enticing people with the buy now, pay later slogan which in turn caused many consumers to
accumulate so much debt that were unable to keep up with payments on the items they purchased, and
they were repossessed. Once the slowing of manufactured goods occurred, inventory accumulated and
there was a backlog of purchasing merchandise which caused even less spending that didn t help the
economy.
Another problem contributing to the Depression was the epic drought that occurred in 1930. During
WWI, thousands of farmers migrated to the Great Plains area because of its rich

Reflection Of My Life Essay
One s dream and aspirations to supersede in life must be stronger and greater than limitations set forth
by others. The experience that were bestowed to me during my short life has elevated me to the
woman I am today. Please walk with me as I give you the opportunity to see the world from my eyes:
To be the person that I am now, I had to reflect and accept accountability of my past actions. My past
is one that many would love to erase from their memory, a past, which remained dormant, until I
found myself. The steps involved in regaining myself encompassed letting go of my anger and self
pity. I had to look within myself and see my self s worth, which lead to my belief that I ran away to
college to forget my past. During the years ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Put education first and everything else will fall into place. I didn t realize how true these words were,
until I came face to face with my past.
My last year in college, changed the whole course of my life. Near the end of my junior year, I
befriended a guy, who never would become my boyfriend. I knew he was infatuated with me, so I lead
him on. He ended up stalking me and making several death threats. I never understood the phrase in
fear of your life , until then. Tallahassee Police Department (TPD) got involved but there wasn t much
they could do except file a police report and wait. This was a very frightening time in my life and
consequently I became very disconnected with life. I never provided TPD with my stalker s name, in
fear that he would kill me if I did. I moved to a different apartment complex across town, thinking that
it would make all my problems go away. He ended up finding me and making more serious death
threats against me and my family if I didn t leave Tallahassee.
I had a mental breakdown after the last death threat and I left Florida State University my senior year,
I went back home to deal with my traumatic ordeal. I quickly transferred to Florida International
University and graduated the following year with my graduating class at Florida State. Graduation day
should have been one of the happiest days of my life, but instead I was terrified

Self Dehumanization
Power allows people to control outcomes with respect to both the environment and the self . This
control is considered to be a fundamental human need ; therefore, it follows that powerlessness will
disrupt an individual s sense of humanity, which coincides with the fact that many civilizations have
equated power deprivation with humbleness, lowliness, and fewer expressed human traits. We based
the current study on this notion in order to demonstrate that perceived powerlessness induces self
dehumanization.
The world is changing rapidly. From the Stone Age to the Iron Age today we are living in an
ultramodern era where things which were not even thought of earlier have become vital necessities in
our life. For example, light in those ages was to be got only from sun for a limited part of day. But
now we have electricity for all time use. Thanks to Thomas Alva Edison who by inventing electricity
illuminated the whole world.
Now we can t think life without electricity. In big cities everything depends upon it. We find ourselves
completely paralysed whenever there is power failure in our area. Electricity provides all comforts of
life and life would be completely different in absence of it.
We will have to use earthen lamps, lantern or candle light instead of electric bulbs and tubes as it is
now. If there would have been no electricity, people would not have become so luxurious with coolers,
airconditioners, refrigerators, room heaters and other electric appliances. The

The first recorded violence between Arabs and Jews in 1882, and only increased as more Jewish
people immigrated to Palestine, and the development of Palestinian nationalism. The massive influx of
Jewish immigrants to Palestine was perceived by the Arab population as a threat to their national
identity. During the 1920 s relations deteriorated between the Arab and Jewish populations, and led to
hostility between the two group becoming more intense. In 1921 the first major riots in Palestine
against the Jewish population erupted, the Jaffa riots. The escalation of tensions between the two
groups led to the 1929 Palestine riots. In these riots Jews were massacred in Hebron, and devastation
took place in Jerusalem and Safed. Finally, there was the 1936 39 Arab revolt in Palestine. During the
revolt, Palestinian Arabs rioted and murdered Jews. The revolt was instigated by the Supreme Muslim

outlook for a medical assistant is that employment for medical assistants is projected to increase 31%

Solving the Foreclosure Crisis Essay example
I notice that a lot of American politics is about ending major crisis at home and worldwide.
Unfortunately the politicians seem to go off course or side tracked on their particular platform or their
states agenda. A major dilemma that needs to be addressed in American politics is the current
foreclosure rate in the housing market. The issue needs to be addressed because our entire financial
stability seems to be balanced on the housing market. When the housing market crashed subsequently
the stock market crashed soon after it. As a result of both the real estate and the stock market crash the
banks opted out to tighten up their belts by increasing the criteria to apply for credit and loans. For
most Americans who have or had middle class ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The definition from Wikipedia states a housing bubble is characterized by rapid increases in the
valuations of real property such as housing until unsustainable levels are reached relative to incomes,
price to rent ratios, and other economic indicators of affordability.
The market correction also affects major markets including (but not limited to) the retail markets. For
the last five years the sales projection for all areas of the retail market has drastically declined and still
no one has been able to make their quotas despite the numerous stimulus attempts from the
government. The housing market correction further the pain on the working class American because
the retail companies has started to pressure their employees to make impossible sales to keep the
companies afloat. These employees are the same working class Americans who experiencing the
money crunch and are barely able to pay their bills and/or invoices of past due on their homes.
Unfortunately after months of not meeting sales projections retail companies had to scale back their
losses by either making salary cuts or reducing the number of employees. As of the most recent news
report I have seen the United States unemployment rate has increased to 10.0 percent.
Also the market correction has affected the quality of life for all Americans. I seen a recent study that
says depression is on the rise amongst all

Amy Winehouse Sociology
Every individual during some point in their life has experienced a bad day or perhaps a rough patch.
The feeling of an overwhelming sensation of hopelessness can be without a doubt exhausting. For
several individuals, the aid from family and loved ones is necessary when trying to recover. However,
for Amy Winehouse, it seems as if every inner struggle the star had brewing inside was swept under
the rug by her mother and father. It is evident that ignoring mental health issues will never have a
positive end result and that is demonstrated in Amy. In order for the audience to step in her shoes for a

her closest friends and loved ones. With that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, it is her father that states there is no need for Amy to attend rehab, therefore, she does not.
There are countless other scenes presented in the documentary that demonstrate the disconnect
between Amy and her parents such as her father showing up with a camera crew during a time that
was intended for Amy to overcome her mental health issues and her addiction to drugs (A Most
Modern Tragedy: Why We re All To Blame For The Death Of Amy Winehouse). In an interview with
the director of the Film Amy it is evident that the relationships she had in general were peculiar. For
example, it was stated she had lots of different compartments that she had everyone in. And in each
compartment everyone felt they were her best friend (Interview With Asif Kapadai, Director of 2015
Amy Winehouse Documentary Amy ). However, despite the strange relationships Amy had with her
family and loved ones, they did share one thing in common, they all wanted what they thought was
best for her. This proved to be an enormous dilemma and maybe a justification for her inability to
recover from her addiction to drugs and underlying mental health

A Brief Look at Louisa May Alcott
We can see that Louisa May Alcott in every way was shaped, moulded and influenced by
transcendentalism. The big men around her, Emerson, Thoreau, Lane, but predominantly her own
father, taught her how to be a second generation transcendentalist. Mr Alcott cocooned her into his
slice of the planet and she soon lived her life as a vegan, writing a journal and living on a self
sufficient farm. However she felt a conflicting response to her father s and his friends transcendental
beliefs and Alcott found herself torn between many aspects of their beliefs. She struggled most of all
with the conflict between her position as a transcendentalist and a member of American society as she
discovered it was crucial to acknowledge both. This tension is what created most of her attitudes
which then transcended into her literature.
Alcott grew up being influenced by Emerson and Fuller s understanding of self reliance. This, as well
as her father s teaching, encouraged Alcott to grow into a woman who believed that she had great
strength as an individual. However she was aware that beyond every individual sphere was an outer
society that was hard to ignore. She had seen the effect of society when it opposed her father s
teaching methods and caused his school to close. Similarly, she felt it shutting down her chances of
becoming a successful woman writer who sought to create works of genius. She noticed that with
every individual idea, there was a chorus of society stopping it from

Why College Is Right For Everyone
Several ponder if college is right for everyone. Stephanie Owen, a senior research assistant at
Brookings Center on Children and Families at the time of the report s publication and she currently
serves as a research associate at the Urban Institute, and Isabel Sawhill, a co director of the Center on
Children and Families and a senior fellow in economic studies at Brookings, wrote an essay called
Should Everyone Go to College?, that gives insight on if college is right for every person. While they
show reason why college can be a smart investment, they also acknowledge that it is not for all. They
also bring attention to the fact that an enormous deal of thought needs to be put into attending to
college or not and all the questions that come after that decision. They also mention that it is common
knowledge that this topic is highly debated. Should Everyone Go to College? provides an affective
argument that features both sides of the debate. Sawhill and Owen achieve this by utilizing logos
(mostly) and pathos and ethos. Using a factual appeal along with emotional and ethical appeals
typically impacts the reader in at least one way. In Should Everyone Go to College? Owen and
Sawhill primarily use logos, or a factual appeal. Facts and statics cannot be argued but to a certain

Java As A Programming Language
Java : Introduction Java as a programming language is one that was designed in a time when the
distribution of information was rapidly increasing. Its original purpose was to be used in a home
entertainment controller for the television, however it was much too advanced for the industry (The
History of Java Technology), and so java moved on to a much more capable, and growing internet.
Java s uses aren t just restricted to the internet though, Java is/was produced to be easily distributed
and implemented among many platforms. Java was produced with a set of goals in mind. One of its
most noteworthy and successful goals was to be portable/ cross platform. Java owes a good amount of
its success to its object oriented core, as well as being built upon its familiarity with the c languages
among other things. Java like all programming languages are judged based on their writability,
readability, reliability and overall cost. Literature Review Java is an all around language with it being
one of the most used language of 2014 (TIOBE Software: The Coding Standards Company) it was
even used in Google s android operating system (Rosenblatt, Seth) which is home to 84% of the
mobile operating system market share (IDC: Smartphone OS Market Share). Java has the flexibility to
be used in all fields; cross platform and able to be ported over to other systems. As I mentioned earlier

haired and grey eyed, proud and stern of glance (Tolkien 269). Frodo is at the council of Elrond in
Rivendell and they are about to discuss who will take the ring. Gandalf is introducing the people who
were invited to join them at the council to Frodo since he has no knowledge of who the people are.
The Council of Elrond is a peaceful place outside of the war burdened world of Middle Earth. It is a
peaceful discussion of who will bear the ring and have to destroy it at the core of mount doom.
Supporting the thesis because Tolkien is trying to give his children a peaceful world to see and maybe
create for themselves. The Council of Elrond became one of the driving forces in the novel because it
led to the events in the novel being able to happen. Without this moment the Fellowship would have
never been formed preventing the plot of the novel continuing. Tolkien fought in WWI for Great
Britain and was exposed to many different races of people and cultures in the trenches giving him
exposure to new people and allowing him to put these concepts into his

The Stomatognathic System
The stomatognathic system (SS) is composed by dynamic and static components that requires balance
and control determine by the central nervous system (CNS), which makes them responsible for the
harmonious functioning and to perform different tasks (to speak, to break food down, and to swallow).
The SS is characterized by: skeletal components, dental arches, soft tissues, and temporomandibular
joint and masticatory muscles.(Cuccia and Caradonna 2009; Garcia de Paula Silva, Francisco
Wanderley, Mussolino de Queiroz, Alexandra, Díaz Serrano, Kranya Victoria. 2008) Posture refers to
the position of the human body and its orientation in space. This involves muscles activation that are
controlled by the CNS, which guide postural adjustments. These modifications can be induced by
afferent inputs like: exteroceptive, proprioceptive, vestibular an visual; all of them modulated by
different factors, such as anxiety and mood state. (Cuccia and Caradonna 2009). Temporomandibular

Spanish Moss Essay
Spanish moss, Tillandsia usneoides L, is not a moss, but a flowering and fruiting aerial epiphytic
bromeliad. It is one of nine Tillandsia species typically living in warm, humid climates on trees or
other supporting structures such as fences and power cables (Billings 1904; Garth 1964; Callaway, et
al. 2002). This epiphyte is distributed between 38°N and 38°S latitude, up to 3300 meters above sea
level (Garth,1964 and Gentry,1987), and is native to Mexico, Central America, South America and the
Caribbean. It grows from Texas to Virginia in the United States (Barve, 2015).
Tillansia usneoides does not require a specific host tree and so are considered generalists (Ackerman

2012 and Norquay, 2010). In contrast, seminole bats (Lasiurus seminolus) and evening bats
(Nycticeius humeralis) take advantage of the insulatory properties of the bromeliad in pine trees
(Hein, et al. 2008 and Jennings, 1958). Spanish moss maternity roosts are open and clear from below,
allowing for easy entry/exit by multiple family members, as well as providing protection from storms,
which can knock bat pups to the ground, endangering their survival. Bats are able to drink water off
the epiphyte leaves and eat insects which take refuge in the branches. Many, especially juveniles, can
become ensnared in epiphyte festoons , the hanging stem s classical descriptive term. The occurrence
of bat and bird entrapment and mortality in areas heavily infested with Tillandria is unknown, but
most likely infrequent (Norquay, et al. 2010). Southern flying squirrels (Glaucomys volans) are known
to nest within Tillandria streamers, adding hair, wool, feathers, lichens, pine straw and grass (Prange,
2006). The eastern rat snake (Pantherophis alleghaniensis), gray rat snake (P. spiloides), and red corn
snake (P. gutatta) have also been recorded nesting and foraging within the tangles of Spanish moss,
both in trees and on the ground. Likewise, Cuban tree frogs and green anole lizards have been known

Twenty-First-Century American Culture
Twenty first century culture is inclined to award trophies to all participants of a sport, even if the
participant did little to contribute to the team s success; they all receive participation awards. In doing

The World Anti Doping Agency
With the 2016 Summer Olympics just around the corner our media is capturing both positive
accomplishments and negative behavior about the potential Olympic athletes and telling us everything
we didn t want to know. Doping is always a highlighted issue and we in America are familiar with it in
our high profile sports culture such as NFL, NBA, and MLB but it is not just in our homeland culture.
It has been internationally affecting the Olympics since its inception in 776 393BC and modern day
resurrection in Athens, Greece in 1896. The Olympic Committee established a doping committee for
regulation, the WADA, the world anti doping agency, with the increase of enhancement drug use by
the athletes. The World Anti Doping Agency s (WADA) mission is to lead a collaborative worldwide
campaign for a doping free sport.(list) Is the answer for athletes to just say no or should we really be
looking beyond the drug. The Olympic motto of Faster, Higher, Stronger may have added new
meaning to it with at all costs, just do it . If we look at our own American culture, War on Drugs ,
starting under Richard Nixon in 1971, we have not seen great strides in this being the cure. I believe
this issue is rooted not just in testing but in the basic human value of individuals from any country,
culture, or gender. To have a governing board to seek out and banish the drug using athletes is not
going to decrease numbers in hopes of upholding the foundation of this Olympic Athletic culture that

My Korean Adoption
The last personal narrative that, in a way, continues where the last left off, is a trip that I took with a
group of other adoptees to Korea over the summer of my freshman year. Being the first time I had
visited my birth country since infancy I was undeniably nervous, not knowing what exactly what to
expect. The fact that I was travelling with other children in my own unique cultural situation, many of
whom were fluent in the native language, however, gave me great comfort in venturing outside my
personal realm of familiarity. Easing my transition into the foreign land, many of them willingly
offered their assistance whenever I was struggling to communicate or comprehend information.
Within the small group of my peers in the program, I felt ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Just as Malcolm X who had shed his personal attire for traditional white towels in an environment
where you could be a king or a peasant and no one would know , I had temporarily stripped myself of
my external Western context by entering a setting that would see superficially not as an adopted girl
with white parents, but as an indistinguishable Korean. (Malcolm X 371) At first, when I was guarded
by the cover provided by peers, I embraced this sense of unity from a distance, indulging in the fact
that nobody notably labeled me as different based on my physical appearance. However, as Malcolm
X s travels show, no matter how hard you try, it is impossible to completely discard of your primary
context when venturing into previously unexplored territories. For me, this revelation became clearly
evident when I was forcibly removed from my veil of collective solidarity when physically separated
from my friend group. While Malcolm X wrestled with standing out as a foreigner despite his role as
Muslim minister back home, I struggled heavily with establishing an identity due to my inability to
speak the Korean language. In this way, I faced the same sort of grappling with a double
consciousness that can often be seen manifested in the complex struggle of African American in their
quest for

Chungking Express, a film by Wong Kar wai is filmed in loose, imprecise splashes of motion and

Kong in the 1990 s. The film, split into two sections involves two smitten cops along with two objects
of desire (one a big time heroin dealer in trouble with her boss, the other, a flaky waitress who
mistakably gets hold of the keys to her admirer s apartment). The first cop, 223 has broken up with his

His constant use of reflections and vertical framing helps the audience to interpret the change of the
characters identities. Mirrors make for a visual confusion and could cause the audience to question
whether what they are seeing is reality or simply a reflection. Vertical framing and multiple images of
characters create an aesthetic view of characters identity and through film language visually portrays
them as trapped within the change and confusion of the cities identity as well as their own.
The repeated theme of expiry helps Wong Kar wai to emphasise the anxiety of the expected changes
for Hong Kong in the 1990 s. His constant referencing to objects and arrangements expiring is shown
through his choice of props and framing devices. The pineapple that 223 buys is an example of this
theme, as well as the plane ticket that Faye gives to 663 with an expiry date of a year from that point.
This constant reminder of expiration reminds us of the countdown to 1997, the Handover to China.
This fear of change is also reinforced through the element of the future and the fact that the narrator
can see outside of the film and tell the audience that things will change for Hong Kong and therefore
the characters lives also, highlighting the characters anxiety and fear of the change that they are all
expecting however having to learn how to accept it.

position as the world s leader in commerce, industry, science, and technological innovation. And that
this was due to the fact that the educational foundations of our society were being eroded by a rising

The Importance of Nat Turner Essay
The Importance of Nat Turner
What was the importance of Nat Turner and where does he stand in American history? Nat Turner is
an American slave, who has been forgotten about in history as well in the hearts of African Americans.
He led and organized one of the bloodiest slave rebellions in American history. This rebellion was
#8230;the rebellion that served to change the course of American history in the three decades before
the Civil War (Goldman 10). Within this paper, it is to analyze on his impact on the nation. Nat Turner

While on the run, he met his future wife, Cherry, who was also a slave that was working on the Turner

freewill. Because of his return Nat said, the reason of my return was, that the Spirit appeared to me
and said I had wishes directed to the things of this world, and not to the Kingdom of Heaven, and that
I should return to the service of my earthly master (Goldman 60). With his return, Nat went
unpunished and was returned to his daily work. In 1822, a tragedy bestowed upon the Turner s family.
Nat master, Samuel Turner, had died and with this it had resulted in separating up his family. With the
separation, Nat s mother was told to stay with Samuel Turner s daughter on the Turner s farm, while
Nat was sold to one farmer and his wife was sold to another (Bisson 28, 29). In this Nat was also
lucky, because his owner, Thomas Moore, was a neighbor of Giles Resse, who had became the owner
of his wife and children (Bisson 39). While he was working for his new owner, Thomas Moore, he
was also busy planning for his liberation. From 1825 1830, Turner served as a preacher because it

Quantity wise, Marvel has more films than DC. If we were to count the number of movies that have
been released to the public, there have been 3 Spiderman movies, 1 upcoming Spiderman reboot, 2
Fantastic Four films, and 3 X Men films with 1 released stand alone film (Wolverine) and 1 upcoming
prequel (X Men: First Class). Comparing this to the number of DC films released since 2000, which
includes Batman Begins, The Dark Knight and Superman Returns, 1 upcoming Batman film and 1
Superman Reboot, Marvel still by far outnumbers DC even by the standard of the rules we set up. (If
we were not to consider the rules, we would have to include the Iron Man series, the Hulk films as
well as the upcoming Thor, Captain America, Avengers films and more. And these movies would only
count those that are the most popular and haven t even considered movies such as the Blade trilogy,
the Punisher series, Daredevil, and many more. While DC has the Watchmen, Constantine, Catwoman
and Green Lantern films, DC is still by far outnumbered by Marvel.) In terms of audience impact, it is
safe to say that Marvel films are more successful than DC films. In a survey consisting of 30 random
people, 16 were pro Marvel, 8 were in the middle and 6 were pro DC, in terms of character and ability
to relate to them. The important thing to note here is that even if we were to consolidate those in
between the two companies into DC, Marvel would still be ahead. According to the 8 people who

The Problem Of Computer Network Security
Introduction
Computer network security has never been as critical as it is today. The news is littered with the
widespread incidents of hacking and cyber theft in the financial, entertainment, and retail industries,
and more recently in our military. A recent survey, conducted by Kaspersky Lab, a leader in endpoint
protection solutions, found that 94% of all companies surveyed experienced a cyber security issue
(Kaspersky Lab, 2014). Furthermore, a recent study has found that the average cost of a data breach to
a company was $3.5 million, a 15% increase from the previous year (Ponemon Institute, 2014). In this
day and age, the cost of a data breach, not only to a company s bottom line, but to their reputation,
would be extensive.
Statement of the Problem
Recently, Acme Corporation experienced a network compromise which resulted in the possible
compromise of the personally identifiable information (PII) of their employees and clients. As a start
up company, many technological issues were overlooked in the interest of getting the business off the
ground. Significant emphasis was placed on acquiring the most up to date and cutting edge hardware
and software, unfortunately, only mediocre consideration was placed on network security. This report
will examine the factors that contributed to vulnerability and will identify the solutions that must be
undertaken to secure the company network and protect it against future cyber attacks.

Polarized Bamboo Sunglasses Research Paper
Polarized Bamboo Sunglasses
Sunglasses are usually worn as a protective eyewear. They protect your eyes from the strong
ultraviolet rays of the sun; any other bright and harsh lights which can be dangerous for your eyes
when exposed to for a long duration. Injuries can be caused to different parts of the eyes like the
retina, iris and the cornea and constant injuries can leave a long lasting and permanent damage. If you
thought sunglasses are only for the summer season, think again. Of course, to dodge the staunch
sunlight, you have to wear sunglasses but they are also worn during driving. People with contact lens
have to rely on sunglasses to protect them from debris and dust particles entering their eyes as it can

Polarized lenses work well for joggers, bikers, golfers, skiers, fishermen and boaters. These sunglasses
when used for driving can reduce the glare that comes off the surface of the road or car. This can also
be used indoors by light sensitive people. While ordinary tinted lenses reduce brightness, only
polarized lenses eliminate glare. With the help of polarized bamboo sunglasses, you can add style and
at the same time eliminate glare.
When looking to buy new sunglasses, you want to make sure you are looking for the best glasses, not

of Hammond s feat soon turns to horror though as the management of the park goes awry. Those who

affects the Earth s atmosphere and most of all the people in it. With its energy use over 30 percent,

Examples Of Corruption In Candide
In the novella Candide , there are multiple atrocities that take place. Through satirical extremities,
Voltaire exposes the evil corruption of society. The ways Voltaire sheds light on these corruptions are
through religion, sexuality, social status, and ancestral status. The most exposed corruption would be
his matrimonial desires to his dear Cunégonde.
Candide always had his hopes set on concurring Cunégonde s love. The disapproval of her father and

  • 2. Personal Narrative-Memoir s Shoot The Messenger Yeah, I directed an episode of Haven in its last season. And that was something I had always been working toward even before I worked on Haven. I ve shadowed directors as much as I could and as long as I could in the hopes of one day getting to direct myself. And that actually came to pass, and the experience was beyond my wildest dreams. It was just incredible. I loved it. I was terrified and just completely overwhelmed the whole time with a combination of sheer terror and pure joy. It was amazing. Then I assume that s something you d like to do more of in the future. Definitely. Definitely. So in addition to directing, are you thinking one day you may do some writing? Yeah, I ve been doing some writing for a little while now. And yeah, I would love to be able to have some of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... cn_bjbpwoaaaw3i.png Sure. There s a series called Shoot the Messenger which is going to be premiering on CBC in Canada in October. So that s something wildly different than the things we ve been talking about. It s a dramatic eight part series about an investigative journalist who stumbles on a case that quickly pulls her into this rabbit hole of political intrigue and murder and sex and drugs and all sorts of dangerous and wild stuff. So it s something very different. But I play an investigative journalist her partner and so the two of us are trying to figure it all out the show starts out with a murder. And it gets more and more confusing and more and more dangerous. It s going to be a pretty wild show. It sounds interesting, but of course, since it s in Canada, we will have to wait to see it. Sometimes it upsets me because there are these great shows up in Canada that we can t watch Totally. but of course, it happens that s there s shows here that you guys aren t able to watch. Right. • 3. Designing A Remake Centric Film Festival From A Project Essay Research I got the idea to create a remake centric film festival from a project I did in another film class. In that class, my group and I decided to do a presentation on horror film remakes. While trying to decide on while two films to talk about, I found that a multitude of horror films had been remade. I continued looking up films that had been remade and eventually made it through the lengthy list of horror films, and found other genres that have had remakes. Once I found enough content to pad out a film line up, I settled on remakes as my theme and began my research on the actual film festival aspect. After seeing that the list of film remakes was dominated by the horror genre, I decided that T2 would not be another horror fest. I tried to select films from a broad range of genres, all while making sure that the horror genre was well represented. I was astonished that the fourth horror film ever made was a remake of the first horror film ever made (Follows, The Scale of Hollywood Remakes and Reboots ), Georges Méliès 1896 Le Manoir du diable, was remade into The Haunted Castle in 1897 by George Albert Smith. Horror is the most commonly remade genre because societal fears have evolved over time, and though the stories remain the same, the scare tactics are rejuvenated to be more effective. The production/success of remakes has declined over the past decade (Follows, The Scale of Hollywood Remakes and Reboots ), but it appears that remakes are set to make a ... • 4. Globalization Is The Increasing Inter Connectedness Of... 1. Globalization is defined in the book as the increasing inter connectedness of people and places through converging economic, political, and cultural activities. Cultures and countries are now linked much more than they used to be in the past as technology continues to grow. It s becoming cheaper and easier to set up technology in lesser developed countries as well as that it continues to grow in more developed countries. Fast food restaurants are now changing and transferring to other countries and changing the menu to the culture of that country in an attempt to make more money. These restaurants from America transferring to other countries are causing diets to become unhealthy much as they have in America. Most American s don t go a week without eating at some fast food restaurant. Western consumerist culture has also transferred. America is absolutely infatuated with spending to get what they think they need when in actuality they don t. Most scholars believe that economic organization is a large part of globalization. It includes global communications that link all people. It also includes better transportation systems, transnational business strategies, and promotion of free trade. There are many positives to globalization. One of which is more money being put into lesser developed countries. This is a plus because this causes people in those countries to be able to succeed and support themselves. Also governments of different countries can better work together ... • 5. Andrew Kennedy s Article On Credibility Of The Author Article No.: 4 Credibility of the author: The author of this source is Chloe Kennedy, a regarded journalist with over 650 articles written spanning over 16 years. Within this vast experience, she has worked for numerous publications, with the City Messenger, the Leader Messenger, The Advertiser, the News Review Messenger and the Standard Messenger being some of the few. Being so widely read, it is likely that this will increase the reliability of her work; mistakes are less likely where a reputation may be implicated. However, though the City Messenger appears to be a legitimate newspaper, by nature such articles may not always be fully reliable, and this must be taken into consideration. As no more information could be gathered about ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Opposing opinion was that residential heritage properties were of the high value that their owners had paid a premium to secure. Heritage buildings have higher capital growth than newer properties, as they are not competitors of newer developments. Most heritage listed homes should achieve an increase in value, provided they are well maintained. Residents themselves consider a listed home to be of higher value, and want to see their homes and other heritage homes preserved. However, possible decreases in value as a result of development prohibition could also stem from heritage legislation. Any loss in value because of listing could be offset by grants from the government available specifically for this purpose. Evaluation of information: This article s primary sources are the opinions of government candidates, and it provides no evidence as to the validity of these statements, other than corroboration between the four men. As such, it has unsubstantiated opinion, a detriment to reliability. Although the amount of research conducted is valid to the nature of the source, it is insufficient for in depth study purposes. There are no official studies or other valid sources used in this article and a bibliography, naturally, is not provided. • 6. Culture Values Texts reflect the culture and values of their eras by presenting and addressing perspectives of the composers on the issues of the context. The poem The End and the Beginning by Wislawa Szymborska and the Austrian film 71 Fragments of a Chronology of Chance by Michael Haneke accomplish this by exemplifying issues in 1990s society such as the increasing influence of media and the breakdown of interpersonal communication. The End and the Beginning is a Polish poem by Wislawa Szymborska which captures a wars aftermath on its innocent citizens and how, in time, both the war and its origins are forgotten. It thus shows how the values of a country or society may change over time as the views and opinions of its citizens change. The overall ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This fragmentation is also visually portrayed through the jigsaw like paper game. Part way through the film, a student fails to solve the puzzle leading to an outburst of anger, foreshadowing his final act of violence. Haneke has also used subtle film techniques to add to the sense of a breakdown of communication. The camera is always positioned in such a way that makes the audience feel detached from the characters. Rather than connecting emotionally with the characters, the audience is made to analyse them, thus reflecting the emotionless state which our society has assumed with changing values. The characters themselves are not named, allowing them to become representative of types within society. The use of media is also present throughout the film with Haneke showing the increasingly invasive presence of media within society as values change and mankind becomes more technological and industrialised. By repeating the same articles at the end with the embedding of the films event as another story, Haneke comments on how the media subsumes any disturbance into the even surface of society and integrates it into the unending stream of trivialised information. The film also serves a didactic purpose, as Haneke highlights and criticises the blatant use of violence in Hollywood action films, saying that his films are intended as polemical statements against the American ... • 7. The Great Depression Of The 1920 S Following WW I in the 1920 s, there was a decade of an economical explosion. The post war era brought about many changes. Businesses showed great profits, migration to big cities of industrial companies occurred with the hopes of making a better life, people were given the opportunity to purchase things on credit, while others borrowed money making poor decisions buying high priced stocks with the intention of selling stocks for a profits to repay lenders. When Black Tuesday occurred on October 29, 1929, this marked the beginning of the Great Depression that left devastating economic hardships for the American people. S. and other countries that had industries charged high import taxes on good that were offered for sale. These taxes prevented counties from selling the goods they needed to earn the money to repay loans to the U.S. banks. In a three year period over 9,000 banks went bankrupt or had to close their doors to avoid bankruptcy which led to a decline in purchasing powers. When the banks started failing people lost their saving because the banks were uninsured. The banks weren t as willing to offer new loans. At the same time this was occurring, there was the distribution of unequal income. Businesses were showing great profits during the 1920 s, however the working class only got a small portion of this wealth with their low wages. People with low incomes purchased merchandise on credit. People thought that they had more money to spend on materialistic possessions using credit. Advertising increased, enticing people with the buy now, pay later slogan which in turn caused many consumers to accumulate so much debt that were unable to keep up with payments on the items they purchased, and they were repossessed. Once the slowing of manufactured goods occurred, inventory accumulated and there was a backlog of purchasing merchandise which caused even less spending that didn t help the economy. The experience that were bestowed to me during my short life has elevated me to the woman I am today. Please walk with me as I give you the opportunity to see the world from my eyes: To be the person that I am now, I had to reflect and accept accountability of my past actions. My past is one that many would love to erase from their memory, a past, which remained dormant, until I found myself. The steps involved in regaining myself encompassed letting go of my anger and self pity. • 9. Self Dehumanization Power allows people to control outcomes with respect to both the environment and the self . This control is considered to be a fundamental human need ; therefore, it follows that powerlessness will disrupt an individual s sense of humanity, which coincides with the fact that many civilizations have equated power deprivation with humbleness, lowliness, and fewer expressed human traits. We based the current study on this notion in order to demonstrate that perceived powerlessness induces self dehumanization. The world is changing rapidly. From the Stone Age to the Iron Age today we are living in an ultramodern era where things which were not even thought of earlier have become vital necessities in our life. For example, light in those ages was to be got only from sun for a limited part of day. But now we have electricity for all time use. Thanks to Thomas Alva Edison who by inventing electricity illuminated the whole world. Now we can t think life without electricity. In big cities everything depends upon it. We find ourselves completely paralysed whenever there is power failure in our area. Electricity provides all comforts of life and life would be completely different in absence of it. We will have to use earthen lamps, lantern or candle light instead of electric bulbs and tubes as it is now. If there would have been no electricity, people would not have become so luxurious with coolers, airconditioners, refrigerators, room heaters and other electric appliances. The ... The issue needs to be addressed because our entire financial stability seems to be balanced on the housing market. When the housing market crashed subsequently the stock market crashed soon after it. The big men around her, Emerson, Thoreau, Lane, but predominantly her own father, taught her how to be a second generation transcendentalist. Mr Alcott cocooned her into his slice of the planet and she soon lived her life as a vegan, writing a journal and living on a self sufficient farm. However she felt a conflicting response to her father s and his friends transcendental beliefs and Alcott found herself torn between many aspects of their beliefs. She struggled most of all with the conflict between her position as a transcendentalist and a member of American society as she discovered it was crucial to acknowledge both. This tension is what created most of her attitudes which then transcended into her literature. Alcott grew up being influenced by Emerson and Fuller s understanding of self reliance. This, as well as her father s teaching, encouraged Alcott to grow into a woman who believed that she had great strength as an individual. However she was aware that beyond every individual sphere was an outer society that was hard to ignore. She had seen the effect of society when it opposed her father s teaching methods and caused his school to close. Similarly, she felt it shutting down her chances of becoming a successful woman writer who sought to create works of genius. Stephanie Owen, a senior research assistant at Brookings Center on Children and Families at the time of the report s publication and she currently serves as a research associate at the Urban Institute, and Isabel Sawhill, a co director of the Center on Children and Families and a senior fellow in economic studies at Brookings, wrote an essay called Should Everyone Go to College?, that gives insight on if college is right for every person. There s no question that the battle between comic book companies will never end. But nothing stands out more than the feud between Marvel and DC. With both companies, having their ups and downs, we can only compare whose moment is now, and whose moment is coming. With character development and storylines are too opinionated to compare, like comparing an apple with an orange, we can only judge on who s making more money. From a financial analyst s standpoint, Marvel would be the clear winner. Marvel stocks have seen a huge increase in the past few years, after grossing millions ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Quantity wise, Marvel has more films than DC. If we were to count the number of movies that have been released to the public, there have been 3 Spiderman movies, 1 upcoming Spiderman reboot, 2 Fantastic Four films, and 3 X Men films with 1 released stand alone film (Wolverine) and 1 upcoming prequel (X Men: First Class). Comparing this to the number of DC films released since 2000, which includes Batman Begins, The Dark Knight and Superman Returns, 1 upcoming Batman film and 1 Superman Reboot, Marvel still by far outnumbers DC even by the standard of the rules we set up. (If we were not to consider the rules, we would have to include the Iron Man series, the Hulk films as well as the upcoming Thor, Captain America, Avengers films and more. And these movies would only count those that are the most popular and haven t even considered movies such as the Blade trilogy, the Punisher series, Daredevil, and many more. While DC has the Watchmen, Constantine, Catwoman and Green Lantern films, DC is still by far outnumbered by Marvel.) In terms of audience impact, it is safe to say that Marvel films are more successful than DC films. In a survey consisting of 30 random people, 16 were pro Marvel, 8 were in the middle and 6 were pro DC, in terms of character and ability to relate to them.
