Glaucon s View Of Justice
Justice is a concept that has been debated for thousands of years, from the Greeks to modern western
society. Most people strive for justice, yet most would disagree with the answer of what is justice and
how do we achieve it. Not only do proponents of justice need to offer clarification, they must also find
the most foundational question in ethics, is it good in itself or is it a means for other things only.
Glaucon argues that justice is not intrinsic, rather we only care about justice because it leads to a better
life, in order to prolong the debate with Socrates; Socrates would tell you that justice is virtuous as an
end not as a means. This is the dilemma brought up in The Republic: Book II, in which Glaucon truly
wanted Socrates to prove ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Without justice the city crumbles is unhealthy, and that is how he declares justice being paramount to
Glaucon and the other friends. Virtue to Socrates is the only way to achieve eudaimonia, Greek for
happiness, good fortune, flourishing, and more. And I can concur with that, what I have a problem
with is his system of government, his way of achieving justice on a city scale, and thus you as an
individual should strive for it. It does not disprove justice, rather we should look to improve the
argument, much like other religious philosophers have tried to improve Ansam s ontological
argument. Socrates assumes that people know and naturally do what they should do for the rest of
their lives. People almost never know what they actually want to do, as we see college students switch
their majors around a lot, thus breaking the social rules of Socrates s ideal city, crumbling the
sociometric classes. Enough people will not be happy with such rules, creating an uproar big enough
to destroy the city s system. Destroying the city s system would by definition destroy the city, which
means that it will not be a just city, nor a city at all. Disproving the argument for justice, but not
disproving justice, nor part of his argument that states that you must have justice in the ideal city to

What Is The Progressive Movement
The Progressive Era, a period of social activism and political reform in the United States, lasted from
the 1890s to the 1920s. Progressivism, the term applied to a variety of responses to the economic and
social problems. During the end of the 1800s the U.S. became one of the world s top industrial
producers. The country was moving on to technological advancements, transportation revolutions,
wealth creation, and manufacturing efficiency. The U.S. was putting its dark past with the Civil War
behind and move on but down the road many Americans where left behind. The amount of poor
people in the country grew and as they grew they were creating a new urban underclass, thrust into
slums with little hope of improvement. While the poor people were left behind industrial titans
amassed great fortunes making the gulf between the haves and have nots an endless chasm.
Afterwards the poor started questioning the titans and the ways they made money exposing corruption
in the industries and the government. The people would conduct strikes which would often end in
violence. The U.S. was just starting to get ahead, but ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Same Sex Marriage Debate
A Paper to End The Same Sex Marriage Debate
The topic of same sex marriage has been heavily debated for the past decade. Discussions continue
whether a marriage is between two people who are in love and agree to spend the rest of their lives
together regardless of their sex or if it is reserved for only heterosexuals. Since the beginning of The
Gay Rights Movement in the early nineteenth century, groundbreaking developments have come to
the surface, presenting strong arguments on both sides of this topic. Currently, there are 1.2 million
homosexual people living with a same sex partner in America (Rex). These individuals are not being
treated as equals and stripped of their rights because of the person and/or gender they love. Because I
believe in equality of all people and that marriage is sacred bond between two people who share an
intimate relationship with each other, I believe same sex marriage should be legal in all states.
Same sex marriage is an important topic to discuss because of the treatment these individuals are
receiving. Religious and personal opinions are clouding the judgment of material fact, both of which
contribute to this controversial issue. However, there is nothing controversial about equality. The
legalization of same sex marriage would benefit society because it would also allow for homosexual
couples to receive the same rights as a heterosexual couple. If same sex marriage were legalized, a
marriage certificate issued to married partners would

interaction, is becoming less and less important as social networking has provoked false senses of
connection, which may lead to negative physical or psychological predicaments. Who is your primary
audience or reader? Why? Be detailed in your answer about your audience. My primary audiences are
employees responsible for the management of online content, and professionals in the field of
Criminal Justice that have an interest in the risks of social networking. Parents of children and young
people aged between eight and 17 years are incorporated as part of the audience. In general, I am
targeting men and women that use social networking media to communicate. In a sentence or short
paragraph, what is your thesis statement, including your angle? Write what will appear in your essay.
The impact of social networking interactions has caused negative and positive effects on a large scale,
and understanding these effects can help society as a whole to understand societal relationships and
even heritable characteristics. What topic sentences will you use as the foundation of your
communication? (If necessary, add more points.) Social networking has not only transformed the way
people communicate, but they have also changed the kind and amount of information that is
accessible.

Cuban Migration
In order to understand the complex relationship that Cuba has with the United States and the nature of
Cuban American immigrant communities that exist in South Florida, it is necessary to first understand
the unique circumstances that led to the large influx of Cuban immigrants.
For many Cubans the Batista government was simply a puppet regime with the puppet masters being
wealthy Americans. This was because his economic policies favoured foreign investors and did little
for the development of domestic industries, which resulted in the wealth of the country being
concentrated in the hands of a wealthy white minority. Consequently, in the 1950s, this harsh regime
caused political resistance to reach to its boiling point. In response to these ... Show more content on

Prior to the development of Cuban American communities, 1940 census reflected the population of
South Florida being 172,172. Approximately 99.9% of the population spoke English and over 92% of
the population was white. The growth of Cuban American communities in South Florida drastically
altered this demography. Today, Florida is now the third largest state in the nation, with more than 20
million people in 2015. Florida s growth can best be termed a population boom facilitated by a series
of migration. Although migration from other northern states continues to be a major contributor to
population growth, international migration plays a more important role, particularly in the south.
According to the Pew Research Center 2015 statistical profile of Hispanics of Cuban origin, there is
an estimated 2 million who live in the United States. This accounts for 3.7 percent of the overall
Latino population. Cuban Americans are the most regionally concentrated, with approximately 70
percent residing in South Florida. This change in demography has also carried linguistic implications.
The first wave of immigrants who arrived in the United States all thought that they were in temporary
exile and it was only a matter of time before the new government was overthrown and they would be
able to return to their island home. Consequently, unlike many other immigrant groups they made little
attempts to assimilate in the United States, instead they maintained their culture, customs and more
importantly their language. Therefore, in the late 1900s Spanish speakers comprised over 1/3 of the

In the 3rd century Christianity was outlawed and public executions such as Saint Lawrence s were
made public to spread a message. In the painting Girolamo tried to connect back to classical times by
using a oil pain which is dries slow and is flexible therefore allowing him to use Sfumato, which
allows the colors to gradually shade into each other, creating a classic look. He also uses a technique
that allows the focal point to be on Saint Lawrence by having the crowd look at Saint Lawrence being
grilled. In 1575 Paolo Caliari created the paint, Christ and the Centurion in Venezia, Italy. The image
depicted shows Christ converting Roman Centurion and shows the symbolism of Christianity to non
Jews. The painting shows a strict relief composition to show the classicizing Renaissance style during
the ages of Mannerism. Different details of the painting show a more contemporary style rather than
ancient roman patterns which is typically shown in the Italian

Comparing Frankenstein And The Creature In Mary Shelley s...
Frankenstein and the Creature s relationship directly parallels their subconscious understanding of
God. Whereas the Creature sees each of them fulfill distinct roles of Creator and creation, Victor feels
the duality of being both created and Creator. Paradise Lost indoctrinated the Creature with its own
testimony of the creation story and filled his subconscious with ideas of conflict and betrayal. Victor s
exposure is consequence of the Christian dominant culture of Europe in his time. From a
psychoanalytical perspective, Victor struggles to identify himself as the god his id suggests or as the
man that his super ego insists he is. Even so, the war the Creature is waging dwarfs this identity crisis.
The Creature feels that he must physically fight the spiritual battle that exists between God and his
creations, whether that is mankind or Satan himself. In Mary Shelley s Frankenstein the actions of
both Victor and the Creature are wrought by their understanding of the Judeo Christian creation. ...

Does Joseph Mccarthy It Takes Many Good Deeds To Build A...
Benjamin Franklin said, It takes many good deeds to build a good reputation, and only one bad one to
lose it. This statement means that the bad you have done is remembered over the good. No matter
what good you do, a bad reputation will always be a part of your history. Once you have a bad
reputation people remember it. It might be hard for you to get a job, and a parent might not want their
daughter dating you. People also might not want to be friends with someone with a bad reputation. A
bad reputation is easy to get, hard to get rid of, and remembered for a long time.
No matter what kind of job you are looking for no one wants to hire a troublemaker, so employers do
not like to hire someone with a bad reputation. When Joseph McCarthy was as Senator he tried to get
more political power by going around saying people were communists when they were not. He tried to
crush the reputations of a lot of leaders by doing this. Eventually they found out he was falsely
accusing people and then McCarthy became the one with the bad reputation. The website pbs.org

fights at school. Not only would a parent not want their daughter to date this person but they would
not want them to be friends with them either. These same parents likely would not even hire the boy to
mow their lawn because of his bad reputation. These are all examples of how a bad reputation affects
your life and how hard it is to overcome a bad

to the fishing trip, McMurphy talks his way out of any situation that could be a possible roadblock

even showing the patients that acting crazy and lunatic can be to their benefit (Kesey, 239). By acting
crazy, the patients are no longer restrained by the unnerving sense of uncertainity about everything
and are able to set loose all the subdued emotions. Seeing this, Chief lets loose as he can finally be
himself around McMurphy, something that he hasn t been able to do for a long time. Not only Chief,
but all the patients gain a sense of confidence, something that Ratched had tried to suppress in order to
maintain ultimate control and prolong their stay at the ward. Because of McMurphy s constant
challenging of control of the ward through various staged rebellions , Ratched orders a thorough

engages in an altercation with the aides for furthering the mental problems George has even though it
is under the authorization of Ratched. Chief follows suit and both are sent up to the Disturbed ward

Minisatellites Essay
Minisatellites
Along with the development of the PCR, a new type of polymorphism of DNA was discovered in the
DNA structure known as hypervariable minisatellites. Large proportion of the eukaryotes genomes is
consists of non coding DNA. Usually, this non coding region carries some regulatory elements such as
promoters and enhancers but in many cases it also contains repetitive elements, e.g. multiple repeats
(Turner et al., 1998). These repetitions include satellite DNA, which comprises thousands of tandem
repeats in one site, as well as minisatellite and microsatellite DNA, depending on the number of
repeats (Vanhala et al., 1998). These minisatellites are defined regions of DNA with polymorphisms in
the number of repeated nucleotide ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Typically they may be dinucleotides (AC)n, (AG)n, (AT)n; trinucleotides (TCT)n, (TTG)n;
tetranucleotides (TATG)n and so on, where n is the number of repeating units within the microsatellite
locus. In addition to occurring at many different loci, they can also be polyallelic (Selkoe and Toonen,
2006). They are repeated (usually 5 20 times) in the genome with a minimum repeat length of 12 base
pairs (Goodfellow, 1992). Liu et al., 2001c profound that the best known examples of microsatellites
within coding regions are those causing genetic diseases in humans, such as the CAG repeats that
encode polyglutamine tract, resulting in mental retardation. Microsatellites tend to mutate with
mutation rates of up to 10 2 per generation (Bruford and Wayne, 1993). Variation in the number of
tandemly repeated units is mainly due to strand slippage during DNA replication where the repeats
allow matching via excision or addition of repeats (Schlotterer and Tautz, 1992). As slippage in
replication is more likely than point mutations, microsatellite loci tend to be hypervariable.
Microsatellite assays show extensive inter individual length polymorphisms during PCR analysis of
unique loci using discriminatory primers sets. Microsatellites are inherited in a Mendelian fashion as
codominant markers (Schlotterer, 2004). This is strength of microsatellite markers in addition to their

Students With Autism Spectrum Disorder
Assignment 2
Part A.
Classroom engagement is always a key issue to rookie teachers. There are various types of learner
exist within a classroom and they each need to be treated differently. As teachers, we need to raise our
awareness of the attributes, competencies and challenges for each of those different learner types in
order to engage them in the class. This portfolio will introduce Autism Spectrum Disorder, Hearing
Impairment, Gifted and Talented Students and Challenging Behaviour in the classroom as example of
various learner types and discuss learning competencies and challenges, and then provide possible
engagement strategies for each of those learner types. Part B of this portfolio will discuss four
teaching strategies that are likely to engage students with autism spectrum disorder.
Autism Spectrum Disorder
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a developmental condition that will impair individuals
communication ability and social interaction with others. Individuals with autism spectrum disorder
will more lilely to have restricted and repetitive behaviour or interest (Dawson Osterling, 1997).
Dawson Osterling then further added that students with autism spectrum disorder are often more
passive and more likely to be disengaged than their peers. Even when engaged, those students often
engage to object rather than people or surrounding enviroment (eg. class). This means students with
autism spectrum disorder will have significantly less interaction with

Why Do We Study Criminal Justice System
Why We Study Criminal Justice System?
It helps to have an understanding the nature of the criminal justice system and how it works in
criminal justice professional field. We study criminal justice and as more students entering the field,
there is always new research based on evidence, reviews of what works and new legislative policy. We
study criminal justice also to understand the issues that impact all areas of society. If you want to get
into criminal law, we study and understand the nature of criminal law and exactly what criminal law
focuses exclusively on what crime. For example, violent crimes that involve physical harm to another
human being in some way include homicide, assaults, both non sexual and sexual (rape) and
robbery(forceful taking of property from another person) (Oden Stiglitz, 2015, Lecture 1). Then you
have to understand the definition of homicide. That it, homicide is defined as unjustified or unexcused
killing of one human being by another (Oden Stiglitz, 2015, Lecture 1).

Music Is A Symbol Of Culture And Music
Music to me is a symbol of culture and peace, and helps bring people together. Music is a way people
relieve their stress, when they are going through struggles in life. People of different ethnicity listen to
different music, because of their culture group. They have festivals, parades, or/ and parties where
music is being played, because it bring out the happiness of people and unite them. I listen to R B,
Rap, Hip Hop, and Old School, because I have different emotions everyday which cause me to listen
to different genres of music. One day I would probably want to listen to R B, so I ll play one of my
favorite songs which is Listen by Beyoncé. If I m miserable or disconsolate I ll listen to All Things Go
by Nicki Minaj. I ll play Too Many Years by Kodak Black ft. PNB Rock, because I just want to hear
some Rap music. Music really can help when you re depressed, energetic, stressed, or just feel like

The first song for my soundtrack of life is All Things Go. All Things Go was released in 2014 by

Differential Equations Of A Nonlinear System
5.1 Linearization
It can be seen clearly by the system s equation that the model belongs to a nonlinear system. Normal
differential equations can be created by the conversion of the system into state space model format.
When a control law is designed, Lagrange equations of motion (9) are reformatted. To be able to carry
this out, a state vector is introduced which is as follows. x= (θ θ ̇ )^T
To be able to apply the LQR technique on the system, linearization is important. Therefore the
nonlinear model of the system turns into: θ ̈= D^( 1) Cθ ̇ D^( 1) G+D^( 1) Hu (14)
After putting the variables of the system matrices in the above generalisation and their derivatives, the
system equation is as follows: x ̇=(■(0 I@0 D^( 1) C))x+(■(0@〖 D〗^( 1) C))+(■(0@D^( 1) H))u
(15)
Where I and 0 are identity and zero matrices respectively.

Police Legitimacy Summary
Referring to my reading on the article compromise police legitimacy as a predictor of violent crime in
structurally disadvantage communities by Robert J. Kane. I found procedural justice an idea, which is
largely consisting of the equality methods of the law making process, that relate to the concept of legal
rational authority. This model it also shows the concerns and the issues of the legal authority in the
consensus based process, in how the law enforcement interacts with the public by applying the right
and fair choices of process. Police legitimacy is another term in this article, which refers to the police
authority where law enforcement has the right to use of power when is needed. Corresponding to their
procedures of controlling the situation rightfully and creating a peaceful trust ... Show more content on

We can see how the behavior of the police it has a huge impact on these neighborhoods, which are
known to have an extreme disadvantage of social disorganization. These bad performances of the law
it creates a decline and rupture of informal social control networks on the communities. They start
forming a connection between crime and structural disadvantage by weakening the factors, which I
mention before as informal social control networks. The study shows the mistreatment and
marginalization on the disadvantage community by the misconduct of the police and excessive of
force in the arrests, it leads to insufficient of understanding of the fairness of the law making process. I
can say police misconduct and legal cynicism are the factors that reflect the reduction in legitimacy,
which lead to the increase of crime levels in the neighborhoods. Police misconduct and the excessive

Boating Research Paper
Summer brings great weather which means an increase in recreational boating activity, there can be
many dangers while boating, both from forces outside your boat and from things on your boat. Here
are some suggestions for staying safe on the water during the boating season. The number one tip for
staying safe out on the water is to always wear a life jacket while boating. You should make sure that
there are enough personal flotation devices (PFDs) readily accessible on your boat for everyone out on
the water with you. PFDs must be Coast Guard approved, in good and serviceable condition, and the
appropriate size for the intended user. Check with your state boating safety officials and the Coast
Guard for full regulations. Leaving alcohol on land can also ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The fire extinguisher should be mounted somewhere readily accessible and away from the galley or
the engine where a fire is more likely to start. In addition to fire hazards, you can encounter problems
from you gasoline system as well. If your boat uses gasoline for electrical generation, mechanical
power, or propulsion, then you need a ventilation system. Depending on your boat, you ll either need a
natural ventilation system (a supply opening or an exhaust opening) or a powered ventilation system.
Check with the Coast Guard for information on your boat. In order to avoid carbon monoxide
poisoning, carry a carbon monoxide detector. The gas, which is odorless and colorless, can kill in
minutes. Sources of carbon monoxide include improperly vented exhaust or combustion, ranging from
fires to barbecue grills. Before you head out on the water, always check the weather forecast. Calm
seas can turn into rough waters. Listen carefully to all weather and storm advisories. Your life raft
should be checked annually to make sure it s in good working condition. A friend or family member
should always know your trip plans before you leave. They should know where you are heading and

Chaos In Hamlet Essay
When together with forms, moods, [and] shapes of grief, Hamlet performs irrational actions that cost
the Kingdom of Denmark to lose its order (1.2.82 84). Shakespeare s Hamlet allows the reader to visit
the chaotic world of Hamlet and see how he deals with chaos within the kingdom. The play begins
with the death of Hamlet s father. The reader later finds out that Claudius, Hamlet s stepfather, was the
the murderer. Shakespeare s stylistic choice establishes chaos within the Kingdom of Denmark, this
affects multiple characters as they try to manipulate, deceive, and outwit their enemies. According to

Claudius manipulates Hamlet s words and carefully constructs his speeches in front of the people of
Denmark. Claudius recognizes that Hamlet is causing chaos within the kingdom, so in an attempt to
maintain order, he sends Hamlet off to England where it would be unfortunate if he died. Claudius, in
desperation, orders Hamlet to go to England where to thine own peace, his death [will be called an]
accident[al] tragedy (4.7.61 68). This action taken by Claudius causes more chaos, especially when
Hamlet finds out his plans to behead him. As a result, Hamlet changes the orders in the letter from
Claudius to where Claudius s helpers die instead. Another example, Polonius, a sponge of Claudius,
spies on Hamlet and Gertrude s conversation. As a result Hamlet stabs Polonius hiding behind the
curtain, and he is dead for a ducant (3.4.24). This symbolizes how much of a sponge Polonius was
toward Claudius, and in the end it ended up costing him his own life because of greed for money. In
Claudius s attempts to maintain order, he fails to realize that his intentions of covering up his sins

Huck Finn Criticism
The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, is a satire written by Mark Twain. The novel is based on the
series of adventures that the protagonist, Huckleberry Finn, and his companion a runaway slave
named Jim go on. In the novel, the protagonist, Huck Finn s mind is pulled in conflicting directions by
two compelling desires. The first time when Huck Finn is pulled in conflicting desires is when he
finds Miss Watson s runaway slave, Jim, at Jackson s Island. Huck knows that if he doesn t turn the
runaway slave in to his owner, People would call [him] a low down Abolitionist and despise (him) for
keeping mum. (Twain 43). Then later in the novel when he tries to write to Miss Watson that he knew
where Jim was, he doesn t because she d be mad and disgusted at his rascality and ungratefulness for
leaving her, and so she d sell him straight down the river again. (Twain 212). The conflict within Huck

affection for Jim are through he is challenging societal norms. When Huck tears up the letter when he
remembers the time Jim said that [he] was the best friend old Jim ever had in the world, and the only
one he s got now. (Twain 214) The second moment during the novel when Huck Finn is pulled in

Exploring The Binding Coordination And Uptake Path Of...
Exploring the binding coordination and uptake path of molybdate and tungstate
Molybdenum and tungsten have similar ionic radii and chemical properties. Tungsten is the heaviest
atom and the only third row transition element that exhibits biological activity in enzymes.
Molybdenum is the only second row transition metal that exhibits biological activity when it is present
in a cofactor of a metalloenzyme. The natural source of molybdenum is molybdate, molybdate has 4
oxygens bound to the molybdenum in a tetrahedral coordination and is transported into the cell by
ModA, where it is incorporated into the molybdoenzymes, or in various different cofactor. Tungsten is
also taken up by cells in a similar manner as molybdenum but is bound by a different protein WtpA.
Tungsten occurs naturally as tungstate, just like molybdate it has 4 oxygens bound a tetrahedral.
Humans need molybdenum for molybdoenzymes which are essential for our growth, in thermophiles
the molybdenum is usually substituted for tungsten. (Mukund Adams, 1991) Not all life form use
molybdenum and not all use tungsten, but all use either molybdenum or tungsten, to current date there
has not been a cell found that doesn t use one or the other. The molybdoenzymes carry out a variety of
different reactions in both prokaryotes and eukaryotes. One of the most well known one being
nitrogenase as well as nitrate reductase. These work together to play a major role in our ecosystem.

Analysis Of Cloud Painter By Jane Flanders
The world has several great poets and numerous mind blowing works, each with its own way of
portraying its own message using symbolism to represent lessons of everyday life. Jane Flanders
wrote the poem named Cloud Painter she shows the world from an artistic way, using a painter and his
canvas to help the reader picture the true meaning behind the words and images created. Robert Frost
takes on the same idea, but uses a less complex example so that it makes his work easy to understand
while not revealing the actual meaning of the poem. Frost and Flanders are just two of the many poets
that use nature as a way of explaining the very lessons in life. Each poet has a different way of
presenting similar images but from a different perspective. Poems are short stories that have a
meaning behind them without revealing them in obvious ways. Although some are confusing and may
use a different style there are a few that present the same message even if they are written by a
different poet. Cloud Painter written by Jane Flanders uses the clouds and other subjects of nature.
Such as trees and the hills. to help the reader picture the true meaning behind her poem. Robert Frost s
poem by the name of Nothing Gold Can Stay also takes the nature route to convey the point of his
poems words and their Each has a unique way of creating an idea that most can relate to emotionally
and physically. Flanders sees the world as a simple backdrop as seen when she simply states, At first,
as you know, the sky is incidental a drape, a backdrop for the trees and steeples. Here an oak clutches
a rock (already he works outdoors), a wall buckles but does not break, water pearls through a lock, a
haywain trembles. Showing that the world is just another curtain painting that is there for looks. The
message behind this line is that life rests upon a single canvas and although it has been damaged it still
stands as if to hang on to its life. The first line sets the poem for the next line to come which explains
the main point of the poem The pleasures of landscape are endless. What is seen should be enough.
Horizons are typically high and far away. This shows that the things in life are often taken for granted

Theme Of La Belle Dame Sans Merci
In the beginning of La Belle Dame sans Merci , Keats presents love in a negative light through the
knight s loneliness. The knight is shown to be, Alone and palely loitering? The verb phrase, palely
loitering is used to present the miserable and lamentable emotions flowing through the knight s mind
as he solely waits for his loved one. The premodifier palely is explicitly used as a colour imagery to
illustrate his dim mood due to his feelings of isolation. Keats also describes the deterioration of the
surroundings in the poem through the personification of the sedge which has withered from the lake .
In this personification, the concrete noun sedge represents the state of their relationship, the fact that it
has withered signifies that their relationship has ended. Despite how faithfully the knight waits, his
loved one will not return. The personification of the sedge can be seen as a pathetic fallacy which
suggests the tragic consequences that the knight will have to face. As a result of Keats description of
the knight s lamentable feelings and loneliness in waiting for his love, the theme of unrequited love is
portrayed in the poem La Belle Dame sans Merci in a negative ... Show more content on

The sudden change of meter from iambic tetrameter to iambic dimeter in the line And made sweet
moan causes a sense of foreboding; hinting that the love between the woman and the knight will not
last long. Nevertheless, through the negative consequences caused by the obsession the knight has for
the woman, Keats aims to express obsessive love in a negative

Elbow amputation is an amputation from the supracondylar region to the axillary fold
(www.orthrofrocs.com). An individual loosing an arm will be faced with many challenges, more so
with loosing it above the elbow. The ability to preserve the length of the limb allows for better
movement, and enhances the fit of the prosthesis (emedicine.medscape.com). The more proximal the
amputation the less functional the stump will be. This amputation will cause the loss of the hand, wrist

Comparison Of Angelas Ashes And Angela s Ashes
Finally, both novels display the effects of living in these situations as well as the similar methods in
which people cope with the hardships in life. Alcoholism affects characters in both novels, specifically
Frank McCourt s father, Malachy, and Dickens tragic hero, Sydney Carton. In Angela s Ashes, one of
the constant sources of their misfortunes is Malachy McCourt. Though he cares for his family, as
evident in his strong relationship with his sons and love for their mother, he continuously drinks away
the family s money for food and other basic necessities for life, spending long nights at pubs and
coming home in the early morning. One night, Angela is fed up and orders Frank to go find his father
at the pub and tell everyone, your father is drinking the money for the baby... there isn t a scrap of
food in this house, not a lump of coal to start the fire, not a drop of milk for the baby s bottle
(McCourt 183 184). At this point, Malachy s drinking is worsening and causing a great strain on the
family, money wise as well as emotionally. Malachy is unable to change for his family as the alcohol
has already taken over his life and he relies on it to cope, for example when his infant daughter passes
away. In A Tale of Two Cities, Sydney Carton is also reliant on alcohol and spends a lot of time drunk,
though he does not have a family or anyone to take care of. He drinks because he feels as though his
life is already wasted and he loathes himself for it. One night, he

Polonium is a highly radioactive metal. Marie discovered polonium by grinding pitchblende with a
pestle, but before she started grinding it, she first discovered that radiation is linked to an atom, not an
atom s molecules, which everybody thought at the time. With this hypothesis she successfully
discovered polonium, which she and her husband named after Marie s home, Poland. Her polonium
was then used later on in her lifetime to discover the atomic nucleus, artificial radioactivity, and
fission, which is the reproduction of a cell. The discovery of polonium has changed our world because
it is now used as a lightweight heat source for thermoelectric power in space satellites. Polonium is
used in the satellites because a small amount of polonium can release a large amount of energy
making the supply last longer. Satellites are very important in our world because they are used for
communication and they take pictures of other planets and galaxies so scientists can understand more
of what s out there. Satellites are why people can see shows on a TV. Also, they help with transmitting
cell phone calls around the world. This is especially helpful for when an important business call is
being made from one country or state to another country or state. Without Marie s discovery of

How The Godfather refines female roles
Masculinity in The Godfather
Thesis
The Godfather is a depiction of the stereotypical divide between male dominance and female
submissive nature.
Introduction
The Godfather is a film made by Francis Ford Coppola in 1972 and it is a depiction of a used world
where men are responsible for making all important decisions and women are excluded from any
knowledge of anything going on.
Male masculinity
How The Godfather portrays men? It is a series of movies where men are shown romantically with a
comparison to the culture. This movie shows vengeance and the males are obsessed with figures of
power and authority and the society is divided into hierarchies that show dominance over women. The
film examines the issue of masculinity in a complex manner.

something that stands out is twice as great. More power, more torque, more style, and more
sophistication are all key aspects that will carry your car to the center stage.
Everyone adds their own unique touch to their ride. Devoting a lot of money, though, as with most
things, is the ticket to set you apart. These seven cars are so sinfully well done that we might as well
be begging for forgiveness. Money, time, craftsmanship, and dedication all pushed these princes to
perfection. Not all of these are beauty queens, though, so look out. The last thing we want is you to get
embarrassed if you meet one of them at a stop light start.

Sunspot Lab Report
Introduction
The sun is an enormous bright yellow circle object visible in the sky daytime. Astronomers believe
that it is one of the many stars which the earth orbits in our galaxy. The sun is thought to be the
midpoint of the solar system based on the assertion that it is the only star in the solar system that is the
source of energy for all the other planets. According to geometry facts, the sun acts as the hub of the
solar system since all the other components of the solar system go around it on all sides (Haugen,
2002). The sun is vital to the solar system since it used as the center of research, study, and forecasting
not only in space travel but also on earth.

Through the analysis of tree rings, the extended minima became a discovery and seemed to

Mentos Vs Diet Soda Experiment

experiment on the Late Show with David Letterman ( Watch Videos ). After this show aired, people all
around the globe wondered how two things as simple as a diet soda and a few pieces of candy could

In order to slow down the reaction, manipulating the Mentos used is also what would work ( Why Do
Mentos, 2014). Instead of using Mentos with a rough, bumpy coating, try using Mentos with a
smoother texture. Having a smoother outer cover, the attraction the carbon dioxide gas has to the
Mentos will only lessen. This would decrease the amount of bubbles being produced by the carbon
dioxide gas, which would leave barely any bubbles rising to the top of the soda. This would slow
down the reaction time, and it would also result in a weaker explosion. Another way to minimize the
reaction time of Diet Coke and Mentos is to change the form of the Mentos (Buddies, 2012). By
changing the form, crushing up the Mentos will result in a much slower and smaller eruption because
of the density of the Mentos. If the Mentos are crushed, they are less dense, so they will drift to the
bottom slower. Whole Mentos are more dense, so they will travel to the bottom of the coke bottle
quicker. This being said, it will be harder for the carbon dioxide gas to act fast with a less dense
reactor. It will still cause a reaction, but it will not be a big

palace or a temple and this exactly the same as in O Neill s trilogy, as the greatest part of the action
takes place in front of the Mannon s residence which is described as being an enormous stone mansion
that has the aspect of a Greek temple(the temple of god Apollo) with a white wooden portico, with six
tall columns [2]. However that was the typical construction for a house that belonged to an American
aristocratic family in the XIX century. In Mourning Becomes Electra , O Neill brought into
consonance the fundamental traits of the Greek tragedy and the specific elements of modern theatre,
thus creating a

Mackenzie Mckee Of Teen Mom Three Argumentative Analysis
Mackenzie McKee of Teen Mom 3 is now under fire after posting a picture of her son, who is only 4
years old, holding up a gun while he was out hunting. Of course some people think it is fine to take a
young boy hunting, but most of MacKenzie s fans are not okay with it from reading their comments.
OK! Magazine shared all about what Mackenzie McKee s followers had to say about this new photo.
Obviously when MacKenzie posted the photo of her son Gannon with a deer after it was shot while
out hunting she didn t learn a lesson about posting this stuff with her fans.
The latest photo shows her son Gannon holding what appears to be a real gun. MacKenzie shared the
caption Don t worry momma, I ll put supper on the table. After that McKee used the hashtag showing
that she thinks she is raising him right by teaching him to hunt.
Mackenzie McKee s followers are going off now and are not happy. Many of them don t feel like a
boy should be holding a gun at such a young age. They feel like he is not old enough to understand
what it means to take a life and is basically just doing what he has been taught is okay. One comment
even makes it sound like McKee has lost a fan or two over this one.

Magazine shared in October that this is not the only photos of Mackenzie McKee that are causing
some controversy. She works as a fitness model and is always sharing photos of herself on Instagram
that might just show a bit too much skin. Mackenzie has 2 children, but made sure to get right back
into the gym after they were born and started working out again. Her body does look amazing, but
McKee is showing off her belly, arms and every bit of her body on social networks. Her other half
Josh works out with her and the two are always showing it off. It might be a bit much for a mom to
show, but Mackenzie McKee doesn t seem to see a problem with

Girls Are To Gross As Boys Research
Girls are to gross as boys are to clean. In truth, a teenage girl would make her bed, listen to music, or
watch tv, while her teenage brother would sit there and eat pizza while playing video games. Honestly,
it might exist as an art, because who knew someone could be so good at being disgusting. They lay out
the whole plan. First they order the pizza. Then, they take their clothes off and throw them on the floor
(yes ladies, this includes dirty underwear). Afterwards, they order the pizza......and wala! Here occurs
the room of a messy teenage boy. Such an amazing piece right? Of course, because every girl wants to
enter a guy s room and see their underwear and week old pizza boxes on the ground . Bringing along
the point, not a single girl wants to date a guy who can t take care of himself. ... Show more content on

Smellsville happens to be every girl s nose in your whole entire school. Do guys think that any girl
wants them to stand next to them let alone hold a conversation with them when all they can focus on is
how bad they smell? Small things like not wearing deodorant will put up a barrier from a girl being
able to get to know how great the guy can be. So some wear deodorant; that s great, but what good
does deodorant do if they don t look clean? To clarify, showers are these amazing inventions that
makes everyone nice and clean instead of rundown, sketchy, and disgusting.Hence, a guy who looks
clean and nice has a stronger chance of a girl talking to them and/or like them on a daily basis. Now,
for all the boys out there, cherish this advice; All the girls see a clean cut guy and say wow....did you
see him today? or he looks really cute . There happens to be this feeling that most guys would like for

Explain The Structure Of The Respiratory System
P6 describe the structure and function of the respiratory system
The nasal cavity (it can also be known as the nasal fossa) is a large air filled space above and behind
the nose in the middle of the face. Each cavity is the continuation of one of the two nostrils.
This picture shows us where the nasal cavity can be found in the body.
The epiglottis is a flap that is made of elastic cartilage tissue covered with a mucous membrane,
attached to the entrance of the larynx. It projects obliquely upwards behind the tongue and the hyoid
bone, pointing dorsally. There are taste buds on the epiglottis.
The image shows where the epiglottis can be found in the body.
The pharynx is an organ found in vertebrates and invertebrates. In humans the pharynx is part of the
digestive system and also of the conducting zone of the respiratory system. The conducting zone also
includes the nose, larynx, trachea, bronchi, and bronchioles, and their function is to filter, warm, and
moisten air and conduct it into the lungs. It makes up the part of the throat situated behind the nasal
cavity, and behind the mouth and superior to the esophagus and ... Show more content on

This refers to the process of Oxygen and Carbon Dioxide moving between the lungs and blood.
Diffusion occurs when molecules move from an area of high concentration to an area of low
concentration. This occurs during gaseous exchange as the blood in the capillaries surrounding the
alveoli has a lower oxygen concentration of Oxygen than the air in the alveoli which has just been
inhaled. Both alveoli and capillaries have walls which are only one cell thick and allow gases to
diffuse across them. The same happens with Carbon Dioxide. The blood in the surrounding capillaries
has a higher concentration of CO2 than the inspired air due to it being a waste product of energy
production. Therefore CO2 diffuses the other way, from the capillaries, into the alveoli where it can

Essay about The Spread of Buddhism and Christianity
The Spread of Buddhism and Christianity
Buddhism and Christianity were each founded by one person, and then eventually grew into two of the
largest religions in the world. Each religion had different reasons for the success in the spreading of
each respected belief. Although both faced many hardships, the two religions overcame and prevailed
through their problems and continued to find ways to attract new believers every day.
Buddhism was founded by one man, Siddhartha Guatama. He was born into royalty around 563
B.C.E. in a Kingdom near the border of India and Nepal. He was raised in wealth and luxury, and at
the age of 16, he married a wealth woman and they had a child together. Around the age of 29, he

When, through his Buddhahood, he had cognized this fact, the earth swayed like a woman drunken
with wine, the sky shone bright with the Siddhas who appeared in crowds in all the directions, and the
mighty drums of thunder resounded through the air. Pleasant breezes blew softly, rain fell from a
cloudless sky, flowers and fruits dropped from the trees out of season in an effort, as it were, to show
reverance for him,? (The Global Experience, Ashvaghosha, pg. 79).
Having achieved enlightenment, the Buddha began spreading his knowledge to help others achieve ?
Nirvana?, which means to be released from the reincarnation cycle. He preached that there were 4
Noble Truths: (1) all life is suffering; (2) the source of suffering is desire; (3) to end desiring is to end
suffering; (4) there is an eight fold path to end suffering; to have the right understanding, thought,
speech, action, livelihood, effort, mindfulness, and concentration. This idea of being released from
suffering attracted many people, and Buddhism soon spread rapidly through Northern India, and then
through Southern India.
However, the popularity of this form of Buddhism (Theravada, as it came to be known, meaning ?way
of the elders?) began to dwindle as only a few people were being able to enlightenment as it was so
difficult. It was mainly monks who were practicing the eight fold path, and they would meditate for
months and years and

Gorey Critical Review
Critical Review Since opening its doors, McGovern s on the main street of Gorey has firmly
established itself as a mainstay of the Wexford nightlife scene. Attracting a diverse crowd of
musicians, artists ageing from late teens to early forties. With an assorted mix of DJs and Musicians to
cater for all. Well known for its friendly staff and relaxed atmosphere, a good starting point to any
night on the town. The bar itself is stocked with the usual well known international beers, and a small
selection of craft bottles. There are inexpensive cocktails on offer as well as jars of Vardy s moonshine
for those with a sweet tooth, and although the queues for the bar can become excessive at peak times.

are swarmed with bright eyed brace face children flashing their home made IDs. Overall, this takes
away from the comfortable atmosphere found during the weekdays. Getting one end of the bar to the

McGovern s is cherished by all the locals. Its rustic features catch the eye of wanderers passing
through the town. Inside its brick exterior it is decorated with timely pictures and memorabilia from

The Importance Of Technology On Society
Today s society is more affected by technology than it ever has been and it is changing every second
of every day. Advancements in technology have been changing our culture and society for hundreds of
years; from hunters and gatherers to information overload to a future of the most advanced
technologies we could imagine. These fast advancements in technology quickly change our society.
This statement was greatly expanded upon by three people: Gerhard Lenski, Leslie White, and Alvin
Toffler
Gerhard Lenski is a sociologist. He is mostly known for his contributions to sociology of religion,
ecological evolutionary social theory, and social inequality. He believed that technological
advancement is the most basic factor in evolution of societies and cultures. Lenski focusses on the
changes that happen as a society acquires new technology. He believed that the more technological
information that a society has, the faster it will change. He labels five types of societies based on their
levels of technology. The first of these societies are the hunting and gathering societies. These
societies use simple tools to hunt animals and gather their food and vegetation. Lenski stated that at
this level, groups are small, scattered, and usually nomadic, leading to fairly inefficient food
production. The next society would be the horticultural and pastoral societies. This society bases
technology on the use of hand tools to raise crops. Pastoralism is technology that supports the

Wealth, Power, And Privilege
WEALTH, POWER AND PRIVILEGE Name: Course: University: Tutor: Date submitted:
Introduction Inequality in the society has been an issue since the history of the universe and as we
think we are bridging the gap between the rich and the poor we always find out that it is as a wide as it
was. The poor will always exist in the society as the inferior group while the rich are the superiors
who control various aspects and sectors of the society. The conflict theory explains that there is always
a disparity that exists in the society due to the presence of limited resources as well as the variations in
the skills and knowledge. It will always happen that in the society there are the wealthy and elite, the
middle class people and the poor who have the lower status in the society. The children from these
social statuses will always have varying education success, employment opportunities and eventually
economic success (Zucman, 2014). The generations are likely to continue their status because the
children from the wealthy families will continue having opportunities that the poor cannot access
simply because they are the inferior people in the society. This is due to the increased need for the
society to eliminate inequality, various theorists and psychologists have been for the past years trying
to explain how inequality is introduced in the society, its causes, effects as well as some of the
measures that should be taken to eliminate inequality in the society. The

Date Rape Essay
Rape defined is forcing sexual intercourse upon someone without his or her consent. This isn t just a
girls problem, boys have to deal with this too. According to the American Psychological Association,
nearly one in ten girls and one in twenty boys say they have been raped or experienced some form of
sexual assault (Atlanta Journal, 1). Almost more than half of rape victims know their attacker; they
don t report it or tell anybody. In most date rape cases, the attacker and victim have known each other
for at least a year or even longer. Only about 10 percent of rapes are reported, less than that go to

growing problem in the community but by educating people on drugs used for rape, the effects, and
treatment will help make the dating world a safer place.
There are three main drugs used in date rape, which include Rohypnol, Gamma Hydroxybutyerate,
and Ketamine. Rohypnol is a sedative with ten times the potency of Valium. They come in pill form,
which is white and round. Anybody could buy this drug on the street for fewer than five dollars. The
effects of this drug include drowsiness, dizziness, slurred speech, amnesia, muscle relaxation, loss of
control, and gastrointestinal disturbances that can last up to twelve or more hours. Street names for
this drug include Roofies, which is most commonly used, Rib, Roach 2, Roopies, Rope, R 2, Circles,
La Roche, or Mexican Valium. This drug leaves the body without a trace after so many hours after
ingesting it. Another drug used for date rape is Gamma Hydroxybutyerate. This drug is a central
nervous depressant that is a clear liquid with a metallic smell. It can also come in a white powder. This
drug can be sold for five dollars just for one capful. The effects of this drug has many of the same

Analysis Of Neil Fraser s The Golden Age
Theatre History Explained Neil Fraser outlines the history of theatre from Greek and Roman times, all
the way through the twentieth century. Fraser makes a claim that theatre truly began in Greek culture
with even the Roma s looking upon that time as the golden age . The Romans looked back on Greek
theatre of circa 600BC as a golden age, and we can still make a case for the great plays of that period
as having never been bettered. (Fraser, 2004, pg.5). Some of the more important highlights of this
book include the transformation of theatre as we view it today from what it originally looked like. It s
roots in Greek religious ceremonies progressing from a chorus of priests speaking all together in
unison to a solo voice being used as an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These pageants gave birth to a new type of play called mystery or miracle cycles (Fraser, 2004). From
there Fraser concludes that the medieval theatrical genres eventually became outmoded or rather, grew
and developed into new ones. (Fraser, 2004, pg.45). From Medieval we turn to the Elizabethan stage
which is what most everyone thinks of in regards to theatre and performance art. In this stage we
begin to see a form of censorship and theatre becoming less and less involved with the church
(Fraser,2004). We also begin to see a change from outdoor theaters to the indoor theaters with
audience seated in front of a large rectangular stage and balconies to hold more affluent patrons
(Fraser, 2004).
The Shakespearean Stage 1574 1642 In the Elizabethan era, also known as the Shakespearean era, we
see less and less of plays drawing from the church and more of the strolling entertainers that roamed
from place to place performing. From strolling minstrels we move to professional entertainers in
repertory companies with significant financial backing (Gurr, 1970). The statute of 1572 required each
company to be authorized by one noble or two judicial dignitaries of the realm: (Gurr, 1970, pg.19).
These companies were employed by the royals and their their major aim was to pease the

To Kill A Mockingbird And A Separate Peace By John Knowles
The informed, written analysis and evaluation of a work of literature is known as literary criticism,
which is based on a literary theory. An examples of such a literary theory is intertextual criticism,
involving the comparison of two separate novels. Written by Harper Lee, To Kill a Mockingbird is
comparable to A Separate Peace by John Knowles. Both novels are fictitious and showcase universal
symbols, themes, characters, and numerous other literary devices utilized by authors. Similarities
between these two novels are exhibited by the author s use of a tree as a symbol for life and death, the
victim, archetype, and weather as a symbol for change. One reoccurring symbol is the representation
of a tree as a symbol for life and death. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In A Separate Peace, the Super Suicide Society, in which the boys at Devon jumped off the tree into
the creek, serving as a cementation of Gene and Finny s friendship. The activities on the tree provided
an outlet of fun during the boys lives at school and during the war. But, the very same tree led to Finny
s death, and Gene s figurative death, making it a symbol of the contrast between life and death. The
victim archetype is displayed in the characters of both novels. During the trial, Tom says to Mr.
Gilmer, no suh, scared I d hafta face up to what I didn t do (Lee 225). Upon being asked why Tom ran
away if he was innocent, he replies that he didn t want to be wrongfully convicted, which is exactly
what unfolds. Despite his credible testimony and the clear evidence of Bob and Mayella s lies, Tom
must suffer for the wrongdoings of the Ewells, with virtually no escape from his fate. Because of the
instilled prejudice into society, Tom is ostracized by the townspeople. Similarly, Phineas suffers
physically when Gene states that my knees bent and I jounced the limb. Finny...broke through the little
branches below and hit the bank with a sickening, unnatural thud...one of his legs had been shattered
(Knowles 60 61). Overcome by jealousy, Gene causes Finny to suffer through physical pain in the
months to come. Due to someone else s impulsive, but intentional, actions,

  • 3. Glaucon s View Of Justice Justice is a concept that has been debated for thousands of years, from the Greeks to modern western society. Most people strive for justice, yet most would disagree with the answer of what is justice and how do we achieve it. Not only do proponents of justice need to offer clarification, they must also find the most foundational question in ethics, is it good in itself or is it a means for other things only. Glaucon argues that justice is not intrinsic, rather we only care about justice because it leads to a better life, in order to prolong the debate with Socrates; Socrates would tell you that justice is virtuous as an end not as a means. This is the dilemma brought up in The Republic: Book II, in which Glaucon truly wanted Socrates to prove ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Without justice the city crumbles is unhealthy, and that is how he declares justice being paramount to Glaucon and the other friends. Virtue to Socrates is the only way to achieve eudaimonia, Greek for happiness, good fortune, flourishing, and more. And I can concur with that, what I have a problem with is his system of government, his way of achieving justice on a city scale, and thus you as an individual should strive for it. It does not disprove justice, rather we should look to improve the argument, much like other religious philosophers have tried to improve Ansam s ontological argument. Socrates assumes that people know and naturally do what they should do for the rest of their lives. People almost never know what they actually want to do, as we see college students switch their majors around a lot, thus breaking the social rules of Socrates s ideal city, crumbling the sociometric classes. Enough people will not be happy with such rules, creating an uproar big enough to destroy the city s system. Destroying the city s system would by definition destroy the city, which means that it will not be a just city, nor a city at all. Disproving the argument for justice, but not disproving justice, nor part of his argument that states that you must have justice in the ideal city to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Progressivism, the term applied to a variety of responses to the economic and social problems. During the end of the 1800s the U.S. became one of the world s top industrial producers. The country was moving on to technological advancements, transportation revolutions, wealth creation, and manufacturing efficiency. The U.S. was putting its dark past with the Civil War behind and move on but down the road many Americans where left behind. The amount of poor people in the country grew and as they grew they were creating a new urban underclass, thrust into slums with little hope of improvement. While the poor people were left behind industrial titans amassed great fortunes making the gulf between the haves and have nots an endless chasm. • 8. The Same Sex Marriage Debate A Paper to End The Same Sex Marriage Debate The topic of same sex marriage has been heavily debated for the past decade. Discussions continue whether a marriage is between two people who are in love and agree to spend the rest of their lives together regardless of their sex or if it is reserved for only heterosexuals. Since the beginning of The Gay Rights Movement in the early nineteenth century, groundbreaking developments have come to the surface, presenting strong arguments on both sides of this topic. Currently, there are 1.2 million homosexual people living with a same sex partner in America (Rex). These individuals are not being treated as equals and stripped of their rights because of the person and/or gender they love. Because I believe in equality of all people and that marriage is sacred bond between two people who share an intimate relationship with each other, I believe same sex marriage should be legal in all states. Same sex marriage is an important topic to discuss because of the treatment these individuals are receiving. Religious and personal opinions are clouding the judgment of material fact, both of which contribute to this controversial issue. However, there is nothing controversial about equality. The legalization of same sex marriage would benefit society because it would also allow for homosexual couples to receive the same rights as a heterosexual couple. If same sex marriage were legalized, a marriage certificate issued to married partners would ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 10. Cuban Migration In order to understand the complex relationship that Cuba has with the United States and the nature of Cuban American immigrant communities that exist in South Florida, it is necessary to first understand the unique circumstances that led to the large influx of Cuban immigrants. For many Cubans the Batista government was simply a puppet regime with the puppet masters being wealthy Americans. This was because his economic policies favoured foreign investors and did little for the development of domestic industries, which resulted in the wealth of the country being concentrated in the hands of a wealthy white minority. Consequently, in the 1950s, this harsh regime caused political resistance to reach to its boiling point. In response to these ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Prior to the development of Cuban American communities, 1940 census reflected the population of South Florida being 172,172. Approximately 99.9% of the population spoke English and over 92% of the population was white. The growth of Cuban American communities in South Florida drastically altered this demography. Today, Florida is now the third largest state in the nation, with more than 20 million people in 2015. Florida s growth can best be termed a population boom facilitated by a series of migration. Although migration from other northern states continues to be a major contributor to population growth, international migration plays a more important role, particularly in the south. According to the Pew Research Center 2015 statistical profile of Hispanics of Cuban origin, there is an estimated 2 million who live in the United States. This accounts for 3.7 percent of the overall Latino population. Cuban Americans are the most regionally concentrated, with approximately 70 percent residing in South Florida. This change in demography has also carried linguistic implications. The first wave of immigrants who arrived in the United States all thought that they were in temporary exile and it was only a matter of time before the new government was overthrown and they would be able to return to their island home. Consequently, unlike many other immigrant groups they made little attempts to assimilate in the United States, instead they maintained their culture, customs and more importantly their language. Whereas the Creature sees each of them fulfill distinct roles of Creator and creation, Victor feels the duality of being both created and Creator. Victor s exposure is consequence of the Christian dominant culture of Europe in his time. From a psychoanalytical perspective, Victor struggles to identify himself as the god his id suggests or as the man that his super ego insists he is. • 13. Does Joseph Mccarthy It Takes Many Good Deeds To Build A... Benjamin Franklin said, It takes many good deeds to build a good reputation, and only one bad one to lose it. This statement means that the bad you have done is remembered over the good. No matter what good you do, a bad reputation will always be a part of your history. Once you have a bad reputation people remember it. It might be hard for you to get a job, and a parent might not want their daughter dating you. People also might not want to be friends with someone with a bad reputation. A bad reputation is easy to get, hard to get rid of, and remembered for a long time. No matter what kind of job you are looking for no one wants to hire a troublemaker, so employers do not like to hire someone with a bad reputation. When Joseph McCarthy was as Senator he tried to get more political power by going around saying people were communists when they were not. • 16. Minisatellites Essay Minisatellites Along with the development of the PCR, a new type of polymorphism of DNA was discovered in the DNA structure known as hypervariable minisatellites. Large proportion of the eukaryotes genomes is consists of non coding DNA. Usually, this non coding region carries some regulatory elements such as promoters and enhancers but in many cases it also contains repetitive elements, e.g. multiple repeats (Turner et al., 1998). These repetitions include satellite DNA, which comprises thousands of tandem repeats in one site, as well as minisatellite and microsatellite DNA, depending on the number of repeats (Vanhala et al., 1998). Typically they may be dinucleotides (AC)n, (AG)n, (AT)n; trinucleotides (TCT)n, (TTG)n; tetranucleotides (TATG)n and so on, where n is the number of repeating units within the microsatellite locus. In addition to occurring at many different loci, they can also be polyallelic (Selkoe and Toonen, 2006). They are repeated (usually 5 20 times) in the genome with a minimum repeat length of 12 base pairs (Goodfellow, 1992). Liu et al., 2001c profound that the best known examples of microsatellites within coding regions are those causing genetic diseases in humans, such as the CAG repeats that encode polyglutamine tract, resulting in mental retardation. Microsatellites tend to mutate with mutation rates of up to 10 2 per generation (Bruford and Wayne, 1993). Variation in the number of tandemly repeated units is mainly due to strand slippage during DNA replication where the repeats allow matching via excision or addition of repeats (Schlotterer and Tautz, 1992). As slippage in replication is more likely than point mutations, microsatellite loci tend to be hypervariable. Microsatellite assays show extensive inter individual length polymorphisms during PCR analysis of unique loci using discriminatory primers sets. Microsatellites are inherited in a Mendelian fashion as codominant markers (Schlotterer, 2004). This is strength of microsatellite markers in addition to their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 17. Students With Autism Spectrum Disorder Assignment 2 Part A. Classroom engagement is always a key issue to rookie teachers. There are various types of learner exist within a classroom and they each need to be treated differently. As teachers, we need to raise our awareness of the attributes, competencies and challenges for each of those different learner types in order to engage them in the class. This portfolio will introduce Autism Spectrum Disorder, Hearing Impairment, Gifted and Talented Students and Challenging Behaviour in the classroom as example of various learner types and discuss learning competencies and challenges, and then provide possible engagement strategies for each of those learner types. Part B of this portfolio will discuss four teaching strategies that are likely to engage students with autism spectrum disorder. Autism Spectrum Disorder Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a developmental condition that will impair individuals communication ability and social interaction with others. Individuals with autism spectrum disorder will more lilely to have restricted and repetitive behaviour or interest (Dawson Osterling, 1997). Dawson Osterling then further added that students with autism spectrum disorder are often more passive and more likely to be disengaged than their peers. Even when engaged, those students often engage to object rather than people or surrounding enviroment (eg. class). • 20. Differential Equations Of A Nonlinear System 5.1 Linearization It can be seen clearly by the system s equation that the model belongs to a nonlinear system. Normal differential equations can be created by the conversion of the system into state space model format. When a control law is designed, Lagrange equations of motion (9) are reformatted. To be able to carry this out, a state vector is introduced which is as follows. x= (θ θ ̇ )^T To be able to apply the LQR technique on the system, linearization is important. Therefore the nonlinear model of the system turns into: θ ̈= D^( 1) Cθ ̇ D^( 1) G+D^( 1) Hu (14) After putting the variables of the system matrices in the above generalisation and their derivatives, the system equation is as follows: x ̇=(■(0 I@0 D^( 1) C))x+(■(0@〖 D〗^( 1) C))+(■(0@D^( 1) H))u (15) Where I and 0 are identity and zero matrices respectively. The system equation can be rewritten as: x ̇=f(x)+g(x)u (16) Where f(x)=(■(0 I@0 D^( 1) C))x+(■(0@〖 D〗^( 1) C)) (17) g(x)=(■(0@D^( 1) H)) (18) 5.2 Linear ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Exploring the binding coordination and uptake path of molybdate and tungstate Molybdenum and tungsten have similar ionic radii and chemical properties. Tungsten is the heaviest atom and the only third row transition element that exhibits biological activity in enzymes. Molybdenum is the only second row transition metal that exhibits biological activity when it is present in a cofactor of a metalloenzyme. The natural source of molybdenum is molybdate, molybdate has 4 oxygens bound to the molybdenum in a tetrahedral coordination and is transported into the cell by ModA, where it is incorporated into the molybdoenzymes, or in various different cofactor. Tungsten is also taken up by cells in a similar manner as molybdenum but is bound by a different protein WtpA. Tungsten occurs naturally as tungstate, just like molybdate it has 4 oxygens bound a tetrahedral. Humans need molybdenum for molybdoenzymes which are essential for our growth, in thermophiles the molybdenum is usually substituted for tungsten. Jane Flanders wrote the poem named Cloud Painter she shows the world from an artistic way, using a painter and his canvas to help the reader picture the true meaning behind the words and images created. Robert Frost takes on the same idea, but uses a less complex example so that it makes his work easy to understand while not revealing the actual meaning of the poem. Frost and Flanders are just two of the many poets that use nature as a way of explaining the very lessons in life. Each poet has a different way of presenting similar images but from a different perspective. Poems are short stories that have a meaning behind them without revealing them in obvious ways. Although some are confusing and may use a different style there are a few that present the same message even if they are written by a different poet. Cloud Painter written by Jane Flanders uses the clouds and other subjects of nature. Such as trees and the hills. to help the reader picture the true meaning behind her poem. Robert Frost s poem by the name of Nothing Gold Can Stay also takes the nature route to convey the point of his poems words and their Each has a unique way of creating an idea that most can relate to emotionally and physically. The knight is shown to be, Alone and palely loitering? The verb phrase, palely loitering is used to present the miserable and lamentable emotions flowing through the knight s mind as he solely waits for his loved one. The premodifier palely is explicitly used as a colour imagery to illustrate his dim mood due to his feelings of isolation. Keats also describes the deterioration of the surroundings in the poem through the personification of the sedge which has withered from the lake . In this personification, the concrete noun sedge represents the state of their relationship, the fact that it has withered signifies that their relationship has ended. Despite how faithfully the knight waits, his loved one will not return. The personification of the sedge can be seen as a pathetic fallacy which suggests the tragic consequences that the knight will have to face. In Angela s Ashes, one of the constant sources of their misfortunes is Malachy McCourt. Though he cares for his family, as evident in his strong relationship with his sons and love for their mother, he continuously drinks away the family s money for food and other basic necessities for life, spending long nights at pubs and coming home in the early morning. Astronomers believe that it is one of the many stars which the earth orbits in our galaxy. The sun is thought to be the midpoint of the solar system based on the assertion that it is the only star in the solar system that is the source of energy for all the other planets. According to geometry facts, the sun acts as the hub of the solar system since all the other components of the solar system go around it on all sides (Haugen, 2002). The sun is vital to the solar system since it used as the center of research, study, and forecasting not only in space travel but also on earth. Though they might not be sure of how the two actually create a reaction. It all started in 1999, when Lee Marek and Marek s Kid Scientists first displayed this experiment on the Late Show with David Letterman ( Watch Videos ). After this show aired, people all around the globe wondered how two things as simple as a diet soda and a few pieces of candy could produce such an outcome. This struck the curiosity of others, and with this, research and explanations as to why this happens have been discovered over time. This experiment is an experiment because of the reactants, and it is has to do with a process called ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In order to slow down the reaction, manipulating the Mentos used is also what would work ( Why Do Mentos, 2014). Instead of using Mentos with a rough, bumpy coating, try using Mentos with a smoother texture. Having a smoother outer cover, the attraction the carbon dioxide gas has to the Mentos will only lessen. This would decrease the amount of bubbles being produced by the carbon dioxide gas, which would leave barely any bubbles rising to the top of the soda. This would slow down the reaction time, and it would also result in a weaker explosion. Another way to minimize the reaction time of Diet Coke and Mentos is to change the form of the Mentos (Buddies, 2012). By changing the form, crushing up the Mentos will result in a much slower and smaller eruption because of the density of the Mentos. If the Mentos are crushed, they are less dense, so they will drift to the bottom slower. Whole Mentos are more dense, so they will travel to the bottom of the coke bottle quicker. This being said, it will be harder for the carbon dioxide gas to act fast with a less dense reactor. It will still cause a reaction, but it will not be a big ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

His plays probe the American Dream, race relations, class conflicts, sexuality, human aspirations and psychoanalysis. He often became immersed in the modernist movements of his time as he primarily sought to create modern American drama that would rival the great works of European modernists such as Ibsen, Strindberg and G.B. It is remarkable how O Neill contrives to preserve the Chorus, which is a fundamental element of the Greek tragedy. Although it is not as dramatic as the tragic Chorus of the classical Greek plays, each and every of the three parts of Mourning Becomes Electra begins with the performance of a chorus formed of different men and women that comment upon the Mannons, the history of their family, revealing to the audience details about the behavior and the character of the heroes. Moreover, the setting chosen by O Neill is similar to the classical one used by the Greeks. It is known that in Aeschylus times a wooden wall was used as a background of the setting, the wall usually stood for a palace or a temple and this exactly the same as in O Neill s trilogy, as the greatest part of the action takes place in front of the Mannon s residence which is described as being an enormous stone mansion that has the aspect of a Greek temple(the temple of god Apollo) with a white wooden portico, with six tall columns [2]. However that was the typical construction for a house that belonged to an American aristocratic family in the XIX century. Both alveoli and capillaries have walls which are only one cell thick and allow gases to diffuse across them. The same happens with Carbon Dioxide. Advancements in technology have been changing our culture and society for hundreds of years; from hunters and gatherers to information overload to a future of the most advanced technologies we could imagine. These fast advancements in technology quickly change our society. This statement was greatly expanded upon by three people: Gerhard Lenski, Leslie White, and Alvin Toffler Gerhard Lenski is a sociologist. He is mostly known for his contributions to sociology of religion, ecological evolutionary social theory, and social inequality. He believed that technological advancement is the most basic factor in evolution of societies and cultures. Lenski focusses on the changes that happen as a society acquires new technology. He believed that the more technological information that a society has, the faster it will change. He labels five types of societies based on their levels of technology. The first of these societies are the hunting and gathering societies. These societies use simple tools to hunt animals and gather their food and vegetation. Lenski stated that at this level, groups are small, scattered, and usually nomadic, leading to fairly inefficient food production. The next society would be the horticultural and pastoral societies. This society bases technology on the use of hand tools to raise crops. Pastoralism is technology that supports the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The poor will always exist in the society as the inferior group while the rich are the superiors who control various aspects and sectors of the society. The conflict theory explains that there is always a disparity that exists in the society due to the presence of limited resources as well as the variations in the skills and knowledge. It will always happen that in the society there are the wealthy and elite, the middle class people and the poor who have the lower status in the society. The children from these social statuses will always have varying education success, employment opportunities and eventually economic success (Zucman, 2014). The generations are likely to continue their status because the children from the wealthy families will continue having opportunities that the poor cannot access simply because they are the inferior people in the society.
