Henry David Thoreau And Ralph Waldo Emerson On Self...
Henry David Thoreau and Ralph Waldo Emerson were neighbors and shared a strong bond of
friendship. It was Emerson s interest and support that encouraged Thoreau to become an aspiring
writer to achieve greatness. Both Emerson and Thoreau were Transcendentalists. The most important
belief of Transcendentalists was the idea that people should act upon their own conscious without
giving away to what society thinks of their actions. Thoreau is usually referred as the disciple of
Emerson, who s known as the father of Transcendentalism but critics have argued about the
similarities and differences in their work. The main focus of this paper is to compare the works of two
writers, Emerson s essay On Self Reliance and Thoreau s Walden, and show the influence of Emerson
on Thoreau s literature.
Thoreau was one of the many followers of Emerson but he acted upon his teaching most consistently.
Emerson s essay, Self Reliance, had made an abiding impression on Thoreau. Towards the end of his
essay, Emerson asserted, It is only as a man puts off all foreign support, and stands alone, that I see
him to be strong and to prevail. Acting upon Emerson s call for self reliance, Thoreau went to Walden
Lake in Concord, Massachusetts to learn to lead an independent life. It was an experiment, as he said,
to lead a life without materialistic possessions, people, society and the government and his initial
intentions to live isolated was development of his own spirit and soul.

The Importance Of Behavior In The Kingdom Animalia
Behavior is the way that all organisms or living things respond to stimuli in their environment. Stimuli
include chemicals, heat, light, touch, and gravity. For example, plants respond with growth behavior
when light strikes their leaves. Behavior can be categorized as either instinctive (present in a living
thing from birth) or learned (resulting from experience). The distinction between the two is often
unclear, however, since learned behavior often includes instinctive elements. Plants and animals that
lack a well developed nervous system rely on instinctive behavior. Higher developed animals use both
instinctive and learned behavior. Generally, behavior helps organisms survive.
Animals are eukaryotic, multicellular organisms that form the biological kingdom Animalia. With few
exceptions, animals are motile (able to move), heterotrophic (consume organic material); they
reproduce sexually, and their embryonic development includes a blastula stage. The body plan of the
animal derives from this blastula, differentiating specialized tissues and organs as it develops; this
plan eventually becomes fixed, although some undergo metamorphosis at some stage in their lives.
Plants are mainly multicellular, predominantly photosynthetic eukaryotes of the kingdom Plantae. The
term is today generally limited to the green plants, which form an unranked clade Viridiplantae (Latin
for green plants ). This includes the flowering plants, conifers and other gymnosperms, ferns,
clubmosses,

Virginity in 17th and 18th Century Poetry Essay examples
Virginity in 17th and 18th Century Poetry
Benjamin Franklin once said that there were only two inevitable things in life: death and taxes. He got
it half right. They did, in fact, die with pretty regular certainty. However, what was inevitable was sex.
Without it, there wouldn t be any new people to die and poor Ben Franklin would have been
completely wrong. The only hindrance to this certainty was (and remains) virgins. The realm of the
chaste has been explored in poetry throughout time, but never was the subject as thoroughly probed as
in the 17th and 18th century. To judge by the poets of the time, one would conclude that next to dying
the citizens of this era spent most of their time either praising the virtuous, trying to ... Show more

Again, the virtue itself is not exactly being praised so much as being alluded to as a component of
something good.
The women also had their say. In Katherine Phillips s A Married State (1679), the many advantages of
a life of chastity are listed. Phillips says A virgin s state is crowned with much content; / It s always
happy as it s innocent. In addition to innocence, Phillips points out that there are no grouchy husbands,
no screaming children and nothing else to distract you from your service to God. In fact, wistful
women wishing they d kept their virginity and wedding vows to themselves wrote many poems in this
era. It is a telling social commentary that so many married women would wish themselves back to live
a life of chaste penitence than to enter into so called wedded bliss.
The most common theme in virginity poems is that of men trying to get women to change their minds
and go to bed with them. Many poets tried to use persuasion on their objects of desire. In Robert
Herrick s To the Virgins to Make Much of Time, the well known first line Gather ye rosebuds while ye
may appears. This poem is an appeal to virtuous women to use it while they ve got it, per se. In the
proud tradition of soldiers who will be sent off tomorrow who just know they aren t coming back and
hedonists everywhere, Herrick emphasizes that time is short and virgins are wasting their youths

Lord Of The Flies Characteristics
In the novel Lord of the Flies by William Golding, a group of young boys become stranded on a
deserted island following a plane crash. Since the world is at war, the boys realize they are not the
main concern and rescue might take a while. Without adult supervision and with no simple means of
survival, the boys must fend for themselves and rely on their own skills and experiences to survive. As
their time on the island progresses, the strengths and weaknesses of the boys become more apparent.
Some seem destined to live and others to die. Golding uses the main characters and their character
traits to develop the theme that society is the result of survival of the fittest. Jack is one of the older
boys on the island who represents how stronger, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

and encounterments that they reach. An example of a situation that showed that Simon portrayed a
parent figure was when he had the encounter with the head or the beast . When he encountered it he
developed a theme of a nature to the conscious personality of a man is developed in a stunning fashion

living in each of the boys. Jack and Ralph s first instinct to do when something goes wrong is to kill,
Simon does not resort to killing first. He tries to think of other ways instead of conclusion to kill.
Simon shows that you don t always have to be the one to be the strongest, but you must be wise and a

The Impact Of Physician Remunerations On Patient Outcomes...
The Impact of Physician Remunerations on Patient Outcomes and Quality of Care in Canada
A Policy Analysis Paper
By
Udoka Okpalauwaekwe
PUBH 852
BRIEFING SUMMARY
It is commonly believed that the method of physician remunerations affects their professional
behavior. As a result, payment systems are therefore manipulated in attempts to achieve policy
objectives with the primary aim to improve quality of care, contain cost and maintain recruitment of
human resources in underserved areas. (2,1)
This paper tries to analyze the impact of primary care physician remuneration systems on patient
outcomes and quality of care in Canada. A very often cited source of inefficiency in the Canadian
system is the overwhelming dependence on the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A mixed payment system combined with physician monitoring, will provide physicians with
incentives to consider costs and benefits of different treatment options, which will lead to an efficient
level and quality of care. (1,2)
Looking forward, another interesting option for Canada would be the Group based profit sharing
programs. However their applicability in the short to medium term is unlikely because profit sharing
programs allow hospitals to provide bonuses to physicians based on hospital savings created when
physicians coordinate their use of drugs and devices (quantity and market share discounts). That is, the
more that a hospital purchases of a particular drug or device from a particular vendor/manufacturer,
the more they benefit from quantity and market share discounts. Therefore, adding profit sharing
programs to the current FFS system may provide a powerful way to align physician incentives with
those of the hospital and of policy makers. However, little is known about the effect of these programs
on patient outcomes, as current regulation in Canada does not allow hospitals to pay physicians in
such a manner. (1,2)
BACKGROUND
Canada s healthcare cost constitutes a large share of GDP. Although this may be a good thing as it
reflects on a country s increased wealth and ability to pay for valued care, however in the case of
Canada, there is a strongly held belief that the growth rate in Canada is not sustainable nor is it
necessarily improving our outcomes.

Thad Jones Summary
HISTORICAL AND REHEARSAL NOTES
This is one of Thad Jones most iconic arrangements. Don t Git Sassy recalls the energetic, hand
clapping tradition of a church camp meeting, and the energy level stays strong throughout. This new
edition of Thad s work is taken directly from the original ink parts Thad handed out to the band in
1967, and from Thad s original pencil score now housed in the Thad Jones Archive at William
Paterson University, where Thad served as Founding Director of Jazz Studies.
The key to this arrangement is its rhythmic style a hard driving shuffle. In a shuffle, a constant snare
pattern is in tandem with the ride cymbal, all with a very tight skip beat played close to each
upcoming downbeat. The sax and brass figures are tight, always playing their upbeats to lock in with
the ride cymbal/snare skip beat. A great description of this time concept comes from the legendary
Basie alumnus Frank Wess, who once said, That accent is not on the upbeat of four, it s just before
one!
As with many Thad Jones arrangements, a number of key stylistic elements are not printed on the
original chart. The rehearsal comments below are taken from recorded performances of the original
recording by the Thad Jones Mel Lewis Orchestra, and from more recent Vanguard Jazz Orchestra
recordings. This arrangement can be performed at the deepest level when band members are hearing
these great recordings in their minds as they play.

Characteristics Of Plato s Allegory Of The Cave
Introduction
In this paper, I will argue that Plato s Allegory of the Cave is a good representation of our relationship
to the media in the United States.
To make this argument, I will first outline the characteristics of Plato s cave.
Second I will argue that Plato s Allegory of the Cave is a good representation of our relationship to the
media in the United States.
Third, I will entertain the most persuasive possible counterargument to my view, which is that the
United States media is not a good representation of the media in the United States.
Fourth, I will refute this counterargument (counterargument, not argument) by giving examples of
how some media sources cherry pick what to tell and what not to say to the public. So the public does
not have all the facts.
Finally, I will conclude my paper by summarizing the main lines of argument in it and reiterating
thesis that Plato s Allegory of the Cave is a good representation of our relationship to the media in the
United States.
Outline
I will now outline the characteristics of Plato s Allegory of the cave. In the Allegory of the Cave, Plato
distinguishes between people who mistake sensory knowledge for the truth and people who do see the
fact. It goes like this: Imagine a cave, in which there are three prisoners. The prisoners are constrained
to some rocks, their arms and legs are bound, and their head is tied so that they cannot look at
anything but the stonewall in front of them. These prisoners have been here since

Dermatomyositis Research Paper
Dermatomyositis Dermatomyositis is not common disease. It s an inflammatory disease which causes
muscle weakness and gives a distinctive skin rash. It is more common in females than males, affects
both adults and children. In adults, dermatomyositis usually occurs between the ages of late 40 s and
60 s and in children, it usually occurs between the ages of 5 and 15. Some of the distinctive symptoms
of Dermatomyositis is the skin changes that occur. The skin will develop a violet colored or dusky red
rash, most commonly on the face and eyelids and on areas around the nails, knuckles, knees, elbows,
chest, and back. The rash which can be patchy with bluish purple discoloration is often the first sign of
Dermatomyositis. Muscles are also weakness progressively closest to the trunk, affecting both sides of

Acute Pancreatitis
The Endocrine system is in charge of making sure your body works the way it should. It works by
sending chemical messages through your body to make sure it works efficiently. The Endocrine
system affects pretty much every cell and organ in your body. This system includes every single gland
in your body that makes hormones. These glands include the pituitary gland, parathyroid glands,
adrenal glands, thyroid gland, Pancreas, ovaries in females and testicles in males. These collection of
glands produce and secrete (release) hormones directly into the blood stream. These hormones target
specific cells in an organ, this is to control metabolism, growth and development, tissue function,
sexual function, reproduction, sleep and mood. This is to help the body work the way it is suppose to.

Symptonms include abdominal pain, your abdomen may become swollen and vomiting. Most of the
time it settles in a few days but sometimes it becomes severe. Acute pancreatitis is mostly cause by
drinking a lot of alcohol and gallstones. There are enzymes in your body (digestive chemicals) that the
Pancreas creates, they then become active d and start to digest your Pancreas. This leads to multiple
chemical reactions that cause inflammation on the Pancreas. This is what happens during Acute

Of Mice and Men Curley s wife.
How does Steinbeck present Curley s wife to the reader? What is her importance in the novel?
In order to discuss how Steinbeck presents Curley s wife to the reader one would determine that many
readers would interpret her character and importance in many diversified ways. In this essay, one must
elaborate on Steinbeck s true definition of the one and only female in the novel.
First and foremost other females in the novel are mentioned but not greeted with a presence like
Curley s wife. A girl that Lennie scares in Weed is mentioned in a past tense and most importantly
Lennie s Aunt Clara is mentioned several times where sometimes she can be perceived as the absent

Steinbeck has quoted in the past, Curley s wife is essentially a good and trusting person who grew up
in an atmosphere of fighting and suspicion . Her pretence of hardness is largely a sham. It is all that
she knows. She is not particularly over sexed, but has been forced to recognise that her sexuality is the
only weapon she has and the only thing for which she is noticed. However, her weapon of sexuality
backfires as it will be the death of her.
Lennie s naivety is finally seduced by her sexuality and he commits manslaughter on her as he s
unaware of his vast strength. Like Curley s wife s weapon of sexuality, Lennie s weapon is his
amazing strength. In the situation of Lennie s strength versus Curley s wife sexuality, Lennies strength
results in his demise just as Curley s wife sexuality did.
Ostensibly Curley s wife is capable of exuding a huge sexuality, but she combines it with innocence,
vulnerability and an inability to enjoy sex. The vulnerable and insecure side of Curley s wife is what
makes her good and pure. She was almost certainly a virgin before she married Curley because she has
had it preached at her so hard from her upbringing that it is the only way that she can get a husband.
The narrators description of Curley s wife physical appearance is figuratively sexual She had full
rouged lips implies that her lips are for the purpose of kissing and possibly to perform fellatio

Halifax Explosion Essay
On the morning of December 6, 1917, a tragic disaster prevailed itself in the city of Halifax, Nova
Scotia. During WW1, the cause of this tragedy was the collision of two ships; the Norwegian vessel
SS Imo and the Belgian steamer, the Mont Blanc which occurred in front of the Halifax port. Halifax
played a crucial role during the war because it was deemed the docking station where soldiers and
supplies were sent overseas. Essentially, The Halifax Explosion was the largest blast in Canadian
history, which in turn caused rigorous turmoil throughout the nation; despite such devastation,
alleviation teams came to help seatone Halifax. To being with, the Mont Blanc was a general cargo

Siddharth Gaining Self Empowerment Through Experiences
Gaining Self Empowerment Through Experiences Reality to most people means the world and the
state of things as they actually exist, however for the purpose of this essay reality means experience,
more specifically knowledge through experience and how students in high school can acquire it in the
form of self empowerment. Self empowerment is taking control of one s own life, knowing their limits
and learning from their mistakes. Siddhartha rejected the teachings of the Buddha in order to gain
knowledge through experiences, Siddhartha lost himself and made mistakes in his quest for getting
enlightened but found retribution by realizing his mistakes, learning from them and making a change.
From Hume s philosophy it is understood that there are two types of knowledge, knowledge of the
world, which is subjective to a person s experience and prior knowledge which is knowledge of
relations of ideas that cannot be experienced such as mathematics. Although students have prior
knowledge such as mathematics, knowledge of the world comes from experience and students need
experience in order to gain self empowerment and achieve success.
Students need to learn how to take charge of their lives. Students must gain experiences from an early
age and while they are in school, so they can be further prepared for life after high school. Subjects
such as mathematics and history and essentials like PowerPoints, worksheets and information given to
students by their teachers are

Difference Between Digital Reading And Digital Reading
Digital Reading vs. Printed Reading
For a person who loves to read, I could never imagine myself reading on a screen when it comes to the
choice of print or digital reading. Whether it is for research, schoolwork, or just for fun, the articles I
find online only encourages me to print them so that I could have a physical copy in my hands. That s
when the inseparable feeling occurs to me: I feel more of an attachment between the physical copy of
the text and myself. I become so indulged in the text that my surroundings disappear. I can ultimately
understand what I m reading and grasp all the book s pearls. Many people who enjoy reading can
reminisce with the same feelings that I have experienced. Even many of those who read for the sake of
completing a task can admit that there s not much of a strain when comparing print to digital reading.
This is why reading from a book is still a necessity in our daily lives: it allows for a better grasp of
information, greater memory production, and an enjoyable experience that the reader can always
appreciate.
When we read from books, our brains can attain more information at a more accurate and faster rate,
resulting in greater scores when displaying comprehension skills in the long run. Lauren Singer and
Patricia Alexander, scholars of University of Maryland, proves this instance in their experiment,
Reading Across Mediums: Effects of Reading Digital and Print Texts on Comprehension and
Calibration (2016). The study consisted of

Futility of Human Existence Exposed in The Guest by...

this quote by Albert Camus suggests, he was not a very optimistic writer. His gloomy look on life
itself can be seen all too clearly in The Guest . The story itself deals with Camus s idea of the futility
of human existence: the only rational thing anyone can expect is death. Camus s underlying
philosophy is revealed from the very beginning of the story. The French title, L hote , translates to

between the main characters in the story should be applied to mankind everywhere. The story begins

When Daru asks the prisoner whether he was afraid, he replies by turning his eyes away. When Daru
asks whether he is sorry for the crime he has committed, the Arab stares at him as if he does not
comprehend the words. However, he understands completely the situation that he is in, thus showing
that it is Daru who cannot comprehend why the Arab has murdered his cousin. The history of this
racial conflict dates back to when the French first colonized Algeria. Algeria has undergone many
years of ethnic strife; the French, though they are the minority, dominate the large Arab population.
This clash is further exacerbated by the lack of cultural understanding between the two groups. Daru

Arab to kill a relative rather than lose his honor (Thody). Islamic law leaves private [family] matters
alone, but the French view their system as innately superior. Growing up in post colonized Algeria,
Camus was heavily influenced by the conflict between the Europeans and the Arabs. He was torn

The Book Thif Book Analysis
Brian Percival s 2014 film adaptation of the novel, The Book Thief is set during World War II and
focuses heavily on the Nazi Regime and the horrors surrounding the war. It also introduces the reader
to a German perspective of the war. During World War II, the Nazi Party reigned terror over Germany
and many people became victims of the cruelty of their circumstances. This is demonstrated implicitly
throughout, the film of The Book Thief , however, the fear of the war still surrounds the characters in
the film. Despite being a film, that presents a German view on the war, the film clearly displays the
sense of fright that would be observed by a Jew during the Holocaust. The fear can also be sensed
after the innocent acts of the child characters in the film. Despite the film not explicitly displaying the
terror caused by the Nazis in Germany, The Book Thief still demonstrated a sense of fright amongst
the characters, that would realistically be present during World War II.
During World War II, the act of opposing the Nazi view could potentially result in death, however, not
displaying the rituals and practices of supporting the Nazi party could also result in punishment.
Consequently, the film also shows various instances where the act of not abiding by the laws or
practices of the Nazis resulted in harsh punishment. The fear is clearly evident in the words of Rosa

Abstract
This article reviews evidence of the media impact on interpersonal violence internationally. Media
violence always is a controversial topic. There are several factors that demonstrate this impact: (1) A

The Creation Of Medical Aircraft During The Vietnam War
The United States Army s idea of medically evacuating wounded Soldiers by use of helicopters,
during the Vietnam War, was not a new concept. The Army used the Bell Aircraft Corporation s H 13
Sioux helicopters for evacuation and movement of the wounded in the Korea War. However, the Army
redesigned the concept of medical evacuation by using a larger helicopter that could carry medics and
first responders. (Dorland Nanney, 1982) This larger aircraft, the UH 1 Iroquois, was first used by the
57th Medical Detachment in Vietnam. Once in country, the medical service corps realized the
helicopter needed another feature, the hoist. The creation of the hoist was developed through the
understanding of the terrain in Vietnam, the trial and error ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The terrain of Vietnam plague the ground force commanders and complicated medical evacuations. At
the time of the medical detachment s arrival in Vietnam, the ground forces were transporting their
wounded to open fields in the jungle so that aeromedical helicopters could land and evacuate the
casualties. Due to this, the Army began developments in equipment and devices that could prove to be
a reliable tool in the jungle environment. The army went through several trial and error experiments
including the collapsible box platform and the Jungle Canopy Platform System. Neither of these two
devices proved to be dependable in a war time operation. Ground force commanders would not use the
devices as they felt that the tool could create a vulnerability. Finally, the Army created the hoist which
gave aeromedical evacuation crews the ability to come to a hover and lower numerous harnesses and
several different types of litters to the wounded ground forces below. Instead of ground forces
receiving the platform and conducting installation operations, the Army s helicopter hoist added a new
system which made it the

My Pain For Comfort
Pain For Comfort
I ve gone from house to house trying to find one to call home. I should call where i live home but
home shouldn t make you want to run. Walking into the door of my house feels so forlorn and cold.
Nothing there is ever happy and all the love has left along with the good memories. My only comfort
now comes from the solitude of my room and the deafening sound of my music, desperately trying to
drown out the shouts of anger and hate.
No I m not saying my life is completely awful, I do have good moments but not as often as I do bad
ones. A plethora amount of problems started with my mom and somehow moved its way towards my
dad and then my siblings. Everything isn t how it should be and where there should be love there is
hate and it just makes everything even more stressful when trying to focus on work and education. My
dad is the type of person everyone wants to know and love but behind the walls of the house he takes
all the anger in him and releases it like a tormented dragon on the knights he calls his family. My mom
is a people pleaser but that gets in the way a lot because she tries to please so much that all the stress
she gets from the day she holds back comes back home with her and wrecks everything. My house is a
constant alarm clock going off that has no snooze button. There is never a silent moment. There is
never peace.
Dinner was eaten together every night and we talked about stuff that made us happy. We went places

The Microsoft Antitrust Case Essay
The Microsoft Antitrust Case
The Microsoft Antitrust Case In 1998 the Microsoft Corporation was at the center of an investigation
by the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) which alleged the company of violating the Sherman Act.
The Sherman Act is considered the foundation of federal antitrust litigation, and is used to combat
anticompetitive practices, reduce market domination by individual corporations, and preserve
unfettered competition as the rule of trade (www.law.cornell.edu). The DOJ concentrated on 4 specific
violations of the Act, (1) Microsoft engaged in unlawful exclusive dealings and other exclusionary
agreements , (2) Microsoft engaged in unlawful tying , which was the act of Microsoft tying together

were written to run on Windows, giving Microsoft the upper hand in the industry for Internet users.
Baron (2010) states at the time of the investigation, Windows were installed on more than 90% of all
new Intel based personal computers. The DOJ also accused Microsoft of engaging in behavior which
was inconsistent with adherence to the Sherman Act, referring to the company as dismissive to the
claims of being anticompetitive. These pieces of evidence seem to give credit to the DOJ s claims
against Microsoft. Another question posed by the case was whether or not Microsoft s conduct
benefitted consumers. The senior group vice president of Microsoft, Paul Maritz believes Microsoft
operations did benefit consumers, stating that Window s popularity was due to Microsoft s efforts to
innovate, evangelize and license the software cheaply (Baron, p. 317). Microsoft s alleged monopoly
did benefit consumers when price and compatibility are considered, as the operating software was
cheap and accessible by most consumers, especially given the fact so many applications were written

Stereotypes Of African American Music In The 20th Century
Up until the 20th century music in North America showed a clear distinction between race and social
class. The music from then has since evolved into many diverse forms and backgrounds of origin. The
most significant impact on music concerning race in the 20th century was African Americans and the
musical traditions, they brought to the music world adapted through the life of slavery. Before the time
era of the 20th century began, blues music was spreading very rapidly throughout. Blues is a vocal and
instrumental musical form which evolved from African American spirituals, shouts, work songs and
chants. (Twentieth century music, n.d.) Blues was a way for people to sing about their hardships as a
way of venting. The origins of Jazz during ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Battle of Bunker Hill Essay examples
The Battle of Bunker Hill traces back to December 1773, when a group of Colonists dressed as
Mohawk Indians boarded three ships from the East India Company. These rebels led by Sam Adams
proceeded to dump chests filled with tea into the Boston Harbor. This act, known as the Boston Tea
Party, was the result of years of exploitation and mistreatment from the British; it was the breaking
point for the Colonists and symbolized a shift in their loyalty. As punishment the British imposed the
Intolerable Acts, which set the stage for the Boston Massacre, and the Battle of Lexington and
Concord. At Lexington and Concord the British were unprepared for an ensuing American militia and
were forced to retreat to the Charlestown peninsula where ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Prescott planned to fortify Bunker Hill in order to disrupt British maneuvers and provide area defense.
However, for reasons unknown Prescott and over 1200 of his men moved past Bunker Hill and
fortified a hill even closer to the British encampment, Breed s Hill. That morning the Colonists
frantically worked to build a fortification, a redoubt, and a rail fence that extended from the hill to the
shore. 1 The British soon noticed the structure, and at 0200 British sentries notified General Howe of
the activities. However, like General Gage, Howe regarded the Colonists militia as an undisciplined
and untrained group of amateurs. So he dismissed the actions of the Colonists and did not immediately
notify Gage. Howe s failure to report the Colonists activities serves as Gage s first mistake in the
operations process of mission command. Gage rightfully viewed his army and navy as superior to the
Colonists militia in every way. He knew the British military had hundreds of years experience at war,
were uncontested at sea, had conquered two continents, and were better armed. He also knew the
Colonists had little experience at war, no naval force, and limited arms and munitions. In
consideration of these facts Gage did not recognize the Colonists as a viable threat. Moreover, he
completely underestimated the power of their resolve as well as their capabilities. Subsequently, he
didn t feel the need to create Commander s

they are based on variation and in state of mind. Amy Tan in Mother Tongue talks about the forms of
the English language. She says, variation in languages creates many obstacles in ordered to be
socialized and cared among people. Joan Didion in On Morality explores her perception that we don t

Orwell in Shooting an Elephant talks about his internal war between his mind and feelings. However,
his mind wins because he wants to grow up his self respect among the Indians during his service
period as a police officer in a colonialism of Burmese. Tan states that she had a bad impact on her

a sentimental consideration, but one of the promises we make to one another is that we will try to

themselves as to what moral decision one would make in situations like she describes, of a dead body

What Caused The Great Recession Of 2007 And 2009
Many factors directly lead and indirectly caused the great recession of 2007 and 2009. The financial
crisis happened because banks were able to create too much money to fast and used it to increase
house prices faster than wages. They increased the amount of money and debt in the economy.
Eventually, the debts became unpayable and the banks saw themselves in danger of bankruptcy where
people could not repay them and limited their spending. A downward spiral begins and the economy
heads into recession. Using the aggregate demand and aggregate supply model you can see a decrease
in aggregated demand, which causes a recession involving a decline in price level. This caused less
investment and consumer spending which then causes less demand and

The Dark Knight Rises Film
Even to this day, many have failed to replicate what has been known to be the most successful
superhero trilogy of all time. With awards totaling south of over seventy total wins and over 100
nominations, the Dark Knight Rises remains to be everything a film needs to be to always remain a
timeless classic. The method the team used to overwhelm the world with this immaculate trilogy was
to create the last installment as more than just a film, but as a piece of art as well. Many methods were
used to reach this profound approach to filmmaking, however it was the brilliant cinematography, the
acting that brought the characters to life, and the director s genius ending that transitioned the Dark
Knight Rises from an ordinary film, into an admired piece of art to all.
One of the major reasons for the success of the Dark Knight Rises film is because of its award
winning cinematography that the brilliant Mr. Wally Pfister orchestrated throughout the vigorous 3
hour film. Without a doubt, the vividness portrayed from the gritty lightening aids the goal of
achieving timeless art through the process of using natural light to depict the different array of natural
colors to create beauty. Another method of the brilliant cinematography that this film contains is the
directing of the action sequences. Christopher Nolan constructed a scene prop that allows him to film
night scenes during the day. This allows him to overexpose the lightening during the actual fighting

The Common Urinary Tract Infection
Bacterial urinary tract infections represent the most common type of nosocomial infections. Often, the
ability of bacteria to both establish and maintain these infections are directly related to biofilm
formation on indwelling devices or within the urinary tract itself (30). Enterococci (especially E.
faecalis) are one of the main causative agents of urinary tract infection and Catheter associated urinary
tract infections (CAUTIs) besides gram negative pathogens (31, 32). In these infections Biofilm
provides a favorable milieu for microbial survival within the host as the organisms are shielded from
the host immune response, as well as antibiotics and antimicrobial agents (33, 34). Several studies
conducted to introduce main virulence genes of enterococci that are associated with biofilm formation
in these bacteria (11, 13, 17), but virulence mechanism and related genes for biofilm formation are not
well understood (35). In this study we investigated biofilm formation of clinical enterococci isolates
isolated from Urinary tract infections. These strains were characterized for presence of adhesions and
secretory virulence factors. Isolates had diverse presence of virulence from lack to highest amount of
virulence genes. Several previous studies investigated relation of virulence genes and biofilm
formation, especially presence of esp and gel. Enterococci esp has been implicated as a contributing
factor in colonization and persistence of infection within the urinary tract

Vision Vision, whether linked to an institution, business, or individual, provides purpose and is critical
to success. As argued by McFarland, Senn, and Childress (1994), Vision is to an organization what
purpose is to an individual. Any individual who has strong life purpose is naturally motivated and
moved to action. A vision for an organization has the same power, serving as a higher purpose (p.94).
Establishing a clear vision brings a sense of unity and inspiration, whereby members of the team gain
a sense of self motivation to follow in the same direction (McFarland, et.al.). Ownership of a vision
does not rest solely on the leader; in contrast, uniting members of an organization and enabling them
to share in the purpose are critical. Visionary leaders have the compassion and commitment to a cause
that inspire those around them to believe in what they are doing. Visionary Leadership: Personal to
Organizational Commitment Vision is a critical component to success, as it unites members of an
organization or group with a common purpose. The creation of a vision, however, is not a simple
process; as Yoeli and Berkovich (2010) noted, The process of formulating a vision is long and
complex and usually begins with the leader s unique personal ethos (p.452). According to Katz (1999),
when formulating a personal ethos, a leader is trying to determine the motivating factor to influence
others, identify the purpose to

The Controversial Role Of Hazing In The Present Day
Hazing is a common ritual found in both academic and employment settings. Although hazing was
instituted a few centuries ago, its prominence can still be seen in modern day society. For that reason,
this paper will examine three areas that includes the background of hazing, the viewpoint comparison
on hazing through two peer reviewed articles, and why hazing is still controversial in the present day.
Background of Hazing
According to Parks, Jones, Ray, Hughey, and Cox (2015), hazing as part of a rite of passage process
dates back to the beginning of mankind with the first documented instances of organized hazing
coming from ancient Greece, where prospective soldiers demonstrated their loyalty through painful
and uncomfortable experiences ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The captain can remind teammates of the hazing prevention workshop and suggest a progressive team
dinner where each senior member of the team provides a food course. (Heibert Klatt, 2001, p. 170 2;
p. 17)
Keep in mind that Waldron s (2012) suggestions for reducing hazing may have little influence due to
the countervailing force of peer pressure (Edelman, 2005, p. 328). Therefore, it is highly unlikely that
this contradictory approach will succeed using a short range tactic to replace a long range strategy
(Fallacies, 2006, More..., para. 1 42; Heibert Klatt, 2001, p. 170 2). Hence, further discussions are
needed to determine which author(s) presented the stronger argument.
Taking all this into account, Waldron (2012) has presented a stronger argument than Josefowitz and
Gadon (1989). The reason for this is due to Waldron (2012) maintaining a neutral position, while
presenting strong scientific evidence on the subject of hazing. Also, the statistics presented by
Waldron (2012) did not have any fallacies when compared to that of Josefowitz and Gadon (1989)
(Fallacies, 2006, More..., para. 1 42). Based upon these differences and how society has changed its
cultural stance on hazing, Waldron (2012) has clearly given the better argument and solution for
stopping hazing. Hence, a further discussion is needed on why hazing remains a controversial

Identity Crisis When one is going through life, they will try to find who they are. This can be
influenced by people around them and what they do, but they will find themselves eventually. Sandra
Cisneros shows this through Esperanza in her novella The House on Mango Street. Esperanza through
this aging and learning from her experiences. She very slowly, but very normally learning who she is.
Esperanza s negative view of herself slowly changes as she begins to focus on her larger community
and her place within it. Through this, Cisneros shows that knowing and accepting where one comes
from is an important part of growing up and determining one s identity. Esperanza gets stunted from
growing because of the people she s around. Everybody that s around her are either much younger or
much older. This is shown by Esperanza using phrases like this kid in the vignette Our Good Day to
describe people around her (Cisneros 14). Having nothing but kids around someone is only going to
stop them from growing. Having someone that is ones age can help see what pace that person needs to
be at in order to keep up. This however, is not the case with Esperanza. The only people who she is

  • 2. Henry David Thoreau And Ralph Waldo Emerson On Self... Henry David Thoreau and Ralph Waldo Emerson were neighbors and shared a strong bond of friendship. It was Emerson s interest and support that encouraged Thoreau to become an aspiring writer to achieve greatness. Both Emerson and Thoreau were Transcendentalists. The most important belief of Transcendentalists was the idea that people should act upon their own conscious without giving away to what society thinks of their actions. Thoreau is usually referred as the disciple of Emerson, who s known as the father of Transcendentalism but critics have argued about the similarities and differences in their work. The main focus of this paper is to compare the works of two writers, Emerson s essay On Self Reliance and Thoreau s Walden, and show the influence of Emerson on Thoreau s literature. Thoreau was one of the many followers of Emerson but he acted upon his teaching most consistently. Emerson s essay, Self Reliance, had made an abiding impression on Thoreau. Towards the end of his essay, Emerson asserted, It is only as a man puts off all foreign support, and stands alone, that I see him to be strong and to prevail. Acting upon Emerson s call for self reliance, Thoreau went to Walden Lake in Concord, Massachusetts to learn to lead an independent life. It was an experiment, as he said, to lead a life without materialistic possessions, people, society and the government and his initial intentions to live isolated was development of his own spirit and soul. • 3. The Importance Of Behavior In The Kingdom Animalia Behavior is the way that all organisms or living things respond to stimuli in their environment. Stimuli include chemicals, heat, light, touch, and gravity. For example, plants respond with growth behavior when light strikes their leaves. Behavior can be categorized as either instinctive (present in a living thing from birth) or learned (resulting from experience). The distinction between the two is often unclear, however, since learned behavior often includes instinctive elements. Plants and animals that lack a well developed nervous system rely on instinctive behavior. Higher developed animals use both instinctive and learned behavior. Generally, behavior helps organisms survive. Animals are eukaryotic, multicellular organisms that form the biological kingdom Animalia. With few exceptions, animals are motile (able to move), heterotrophic (consume organic material); they reproduce sexually, and their embryonic development includes a blastula stage. The body plan of the animal derives from this blastula, differentiating specialized tissues and organs as it develops; this plan eventually becomes fixed, although some undergo metamorphosis at some stage in their lives. Plants are mainly multicellular, predominantly photosynthetic eukaryotes of the kingdom Plantae. The term is today generally limited to the green plants, which form an unranked clade Viridiplantae (Latin for green plants ). This includes the flowering plants, conifers and other gymnosperms, ferns, clubmosses, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Virginity in 17th and 18th Century Poetry Essay examples Virginity in 17th and 18th Century Poetry Benjamin Franklin once said that there were only two inevitable things in life: death and taxes. He got it half right. They did, in fact, die with pretty regular certainty. However, what was inevitable was sex. Without it, there wouldn t be any new people to die and poor Ben Franklin would have been completely wrong. The only hindrance to this certainty was (and remains) virgins. The realm of the chaste has been explored in poetry throughout time, but never was the subject as thoroughly probed as in the 17th and 18th century. To judge by the poets of the time, one would conclude that next to dying the citizens of this era spent most of their time either praising the virtuous, trying to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Again, the virtue itself is not exactly being praised so much as being alluded to as a component of something good. The women also had their say. In Katherine Phillips s A Married State (1679), the many advantages of a life of chastity are listed. Phillips says A virgin s state is crowned with much content; / It s always happy as it s innocent. In addition to innocence, Phillips points out that there are no grouchy husbands, no screaming children and nothing else to distract you from your service to God. In fact, wistful women wishing they d kept their virginity and wedding vows to themselves wrote many poems in this era. It is a telling social commentary that so many married women would wish themselves back to live a life of chaste penitence than to enter into so called wedded bliss. The most common theme in virginity poems is that of men trying to get women to change their minds and go to bed with them. Many poets tried to use persuasion on their objects of desire. In Robert Herrick s To the Virgins to Make Much of Time, the well known first line Gather ye rosebuds while ye may appears. This poem is an appeal to virtuous women to use it while they ve got it, per se. In the proud tradition of soldiers who will be sent off tomorrow who just know they aren t coming back and hedonists everywhere, Herrick emphasizes that time is short and virgins are wasting their youths ... • 5. Lord Of The Flies Characteristics In the novel Lord of the Flies by William Golding, a group of young boys become stranded on a deserted island following a plane crash. Since the world is at war, the boys realize they are not the main concern and rescue might take a while. Without adult supervision and with no simple means of survival, the boys must fend for themselves and rely on their own skills and experiences to survive. As their time on the island progresses, the strengths and weaknesses of the boys become more apparent. Some seem destined to live and others to die. Golding uses the main characters and their character traits to develop the theme that society is the result of survival of the fittest. Jack is one of the older boys on the island who represents how stronger, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He sort of clashes with Jack and Ralph because of how wise his thoughts are because of this he clashes with Jack and Ralph because they view Simon as a weak , and not as strong as them. From the start, Simon starts to slightly resemble a parent figure because of how mature he is in many situations and encounterments that they reach. An example of a situation that showed that Simon portrayed a parent figure was when he had the encounter with the head or the beast . When he encountered it he developed a theme of a nature to the conscious personality of a man is developed in a stunning fashion (Epstein 110). He states that maybe there is a beast...maybe it s only us (Golding 80). Both of these quote are explaining that when he did see the beast he was the only one to realize that the beast was living in each of the boys. Jack and Ralph s first instinct to do when something goes wrong is to kill, Simon does not resort to killing first. He tries to think of other ways instead of conclusion to kill. Simon shows that you don t always have to be the one to be the strongest, but you must be wise and a good thinker to show good characteristics of survival of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. The Impact Of Physician Remunerations On Patient Outcomes... The Impact of Physician Remunerations on Patient Outcomes and Quality of Care in Canada A Policy Analysis Paper By Udoka Okpalauwaekwe PUBH 852 BRIEFING SUMMARY It is commonly believed that the method of physician remunerations affects their professional behavior. As a result, payment systems are therefore manipulated in attempts to achieve policy objectives with the primary aim to improve quality of care, contain cost and maintain recruitment of human resources in underserved areas. (2,1) This paper tries to analyze the impact of primary care physician remuneration systems on patient outcomes and quality of care in Canada. A very often cited source of inefficiency in the Canadian system is the overwhelming dependence on the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A mixed payment system combined with physician monitoring, will provide physicians with incentives to consider costs and benefits of different treatment options, which will lead to an efficient level and quality of care. (1,2) Looking forward, another interesting option for Canada would be the Group based profit sharing programs. However their applicability in the short to medium term is unlikely because profit sharing programs allow hospitals to provide bonuses to physicians based on hospital savings created when physicians coordinate their use of drugs and devices (quantity and market share discounts). That is, the more that a hospital purchases of a particular drug or device from a particular vendor/manufacturer, the more they benefit from quantity and market share discounts. Therefore, adding profit sharing programs to the current FFS system may provide a powerful way to align physician incentives with those of the hospital and of policy makers. However, little is known about the effect of these programs on patient outcomes, as current regulation in Canada does not allow hospitals to pay physicians in such a manner. (1,2) BACKGROUND Canada s healthcare cost constitutes a large share of GDP. Although this may be a good thing as it reflects on a country s increased wealth and ability to pay for valued care, however in the case of Canada, there is a strongly held belief that the growth rate in Canada is not sustainable nor is it necessarily improving our outcomes. ... • 7. Thad Jones Summary HISTORICAL AND REHEARSAL NOTES This is one of Thad Jones most iconic arrangements. Don t Git Sassy recalls the energetic, hand clapping tradition of a church camp meeting, and the energy level stays strong throughout. This new edition of Thad s work is taken directly from the original ink parts Thad handed out to the band in 1967, and from Thad s original pencil score now housed in the Thad Jones Archive at William Paterson University, where Thad served as Founding Director of Jazz Studies. The key to this arrangement is its rhythmic style a hard driving shuffle. In a shuffle, a constant snare pattern is in tandem with the ride cymbal, all with a very tight skip beat played close to each upcoming downbeat. The sax and brass figures are tight, always playing their upbeats to lock in with the ride cymbal/snare skip beat. A great description of this time concept comes from the legendary Basie alumnus Frank Wess, who once said, That accent is not on the upbeat of four, it s just before one! As with many Thad Jones arrangements, a number of key stylistic elements are not printed on the original chart. The rehearsal comments below are taken from recorded performances of the original recording by the Thad Jones Mel Lewis Orchestra, and from more recent Vanguard Jazz Orchestra recordings. This arrangement can be performed at the deepest level when band members are hearing these great recordings in their minds as they play. The opening piano solo at Letter A is shown as ... • 8. Characteristics Of Plato s Allegory Of The Cave Introduction In this paper, I will argue that Plato s Allegory of the Cave is a good representation of our relationship to the media in the United States. To make this argument, I will first outline the characteristics of Plato s cave. Second I will argue that Plato s Allegory of the Cave is a good representation of our relationship to the media in the United States. Third, I will entertain the most persuasive possible counterargument to my view, which is that the United States media is not a good representation of the media in the United States. Fourth, I will refute this counterargument (counterargument, not argument) by giving examples of how some media sources cherry pick what to tell and what not to say to the public. So the public does not have all the facts. Finally, I will conclude my paper by summarizing the main lines of argument in it and reiterating thesis that Plato s Allegory of the Cave is a good representation of our relationship to the media in the United States. Outline I will now outline the characteristics of Plato s Allegory of the cave. In the Allegory of the Cave, Plato distinguishes between people who mistake sensory knowledge for the truth and people who do see the fact. It goes like this: Imagine a cave, in which there are three prisoners. The prisoners are constrained to some rocks, their arms and legs are bound, and their head is tied so that they cannot look at anything but the stonewall in front of them. These prisoners have been here since ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It works by sending chemical messages through your body to make sure it works efficiently. The Endocrine system affects pretty much every cell and organ in your body. This system includes every single gland in your body that makes hormones. These glands include the pituitary gland, parathyroid glands, adrenal glands, thyroid gland, Pancreas, ovaries in females and testicles in males. These collection of glands produce and secrete (release) hormones directly into the blood stream. These hormones target specific cells in an organ, this is to control metabolism, growth and development, tissue function, sexual function, reproduction, sleep and mood. This is to help the body work the way it is suppose to. In order to discuss how Steinbeck presents Curley s wife to the reader one would determine that many readers would interpret her character and importance in many diversified ways. In this essay, one must elaborate on Steinbeck s true definition of the one and only female in the novel. First and foremost other females in the novel are mentioned but not greeted with a presence like Curley s wife. Steinbeck has quoted in the past, Curley s wife is essentially a good and trusting person who grew up in an atmosphere of fighting and suspicion . Her pretence of hardness is largely a sham. It is all that she knows. She is not particularly over sexed, but has been forced to recognise that her sexuality is the only weapon she has and the only thing for which she is noticed. However, her weapon of sexuality backfires as it will be the death of her. Lennie s naivety is finally seduced by her sexuality and he commits manslaughter on her as he s unaware of his vast strength. Like Curley s wife s weapon of sexuality, Lennie s weapon is his amazing strength. In the situation of Lennie s strength versus Curley s wife sexuality, Lennies strength results in his demise just as Curley s wife sexuality did. Ostensibly Curley s wife is capable of exuding a huge sexuality, but she combines it with innocence, vulnerability and an inability to enjoy sex. The vulnerable and insecure side of Curley s wife is what makes her good and pure. She was almost certainly a virgin before she married Curley because she has had it preached at her so hard from her upbringing that it is the only way that she can get a husband. Siddharth Gaining Self Empowerment Through Experiences Gaining Self Empowerment Through Experiences Reality to most people means the world and the state of things as they actually exist, however for the purpose of this essay reality means experience, more specifically knowledge through experience and how students in high school can acquire it in the form of self empowerment. Self empowerment is taking control of one s own life, knowing their limits and learning from their mistakes. Siddhartha rejected the teachings of the Buddha in order to gain knowledge through experiences, Siddhartha lost himself and made mistakes in his quest for getting enlightened but found retribution by realizing his mistakes, learning from them and making a change. From Hume s philosophy it is understood that there are two types of knowledge, knowledge of the world, which is subjective to a person s experience and prior knowledge which is knowledge of relations of ideas that cannot be experienced such as mathematics. Although students have prior knowledge such as mathematics, knowledge of the world comes from experience and students need experience in order to gain self empowerment and achieve success. Students need to learn how to take charge of their lives. Students must gain experiences from an early age and while they are in school, so they can be further prepared for life after high school. • 17. Difference Between Digital Reading And Digital Reading Digital Reading vs. Printed Reading For a person who loves to read, I could never imagine myself reading on a screen when it comes to the choice of print or digital reading. Whether it is for research, schoolwork, or just for fun, the articles I find online only encourages me to print them so that I could have a physical copy in my hands. That s when the inseparable feeling occurs to me: I feel more of an attachment between the physical copy of the text and myself. I become so indulged in the text that my surroundings disappear. I can ultimately understand what I m reading and grasp all the book s pearls. Many people who enjoy reading can reminisce with the same feelings that I have experienced. Even many of those who read for the sake of completing a task can admit that there s not much of a strain when comparing print to digital reading. This is why reading from a book is still a necessity in our daily lives: it allows for a better grasp of information, greater memory production, and an enjoyable experience that the reader can always appreciate. When we read from books, our brains can attain more information at a more accurate and faster rate, resulting in greater scores when displaying comprehension skills in the long run. The story itself deals with Camus s idea of the futility of human existence: the only rational thing anyone can expect is death. Camus s underlying philosophy is revealed from the very beginning of the story. The history of this racial conflict dates back to when the French first colonized Algeria. Algeria has undergone many years of ethnic strife; the French, though they are the minority, dominate the large Arab population. This clash is further exacerbated by the lack of cultural understanding between the two groups. Daru cannot fathom a plausible reason for murdering a cousin over a debt of grain. The Book Thif Book Analysis Brian Percival s 2014 film adaptation of the novel, The Book Thief is set during World War II and focuses heavily on the Nazi Regime and the horrors surrounding the war. It also introduces the reader to a German perspective of the war. During World War II, the Nazi Party reigned terror over Germany and many people became victims of the cruelty of their circumstances. This is demonstrated implicitly throughout, the film of The Book Thief , however, the fear of the war still surrounds the characters in the film. Despite being a film, that presents a German view on the war, the film clearly displays the sense of fright that would be observed by a Jew during the Holocaust. The fear can also be sensed after the innocent acts of the child characters in the film. Despite the film not explicitly displaying the terror caused by the Nazis in Germany, The Book Thief still demonstrated a sense of fright amongst the characters, that would realistically be present during World War II. During World War II, the act of opposing the Nazi view could potentially result in death, however, not displaying the rituals and practices of supporting the Nazi party could also result in punishment. Consequently, the film also shows various instances where the act of not abiding by the laws or practices of the Nazis resulted in harsh punishment. The financial crisis happened because banks were able to create too much money to fast and used it to increase house prices faster than wages. They increased the amount of money and debt in the economy. Eventually, the debts became unpayable and the banks saw themselves in danger of bankruptcy where people could not repay them and limited their spending. A downward spiral begins and the economy heads into recession. Using the aggregate demand and aggregate supply model you can see a decrease in aggregated demand, which causes a recession involving a decline in price level. This caused less investment and consumer spending which then causes less demand and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. The Dark Knight Rises Film Even to this day, many have failed to replicate what has been known to be the most successful superhero trilogy of all time. With awards totaling south of over seventy total wins and over 100 nominations, the Dark Knight Rises remains to be everything a film needs to be to always remain a timeless classic. The method the team used to overwhelm the world with this immaculate trilogy was to create the last installment as more than just a film, but as a piece of art as well. Many methods were used to reach this profound approach to filmmaking, however it was the brilliant cinematography, the acting that brought the characters to life, and the director s genius ending that transitioned the Dark Knight Rises from an ordinary film, into an admired piece of art to all. One of the major reasons for the success of the Dark Knight Rises film is because of its award winning cinematography that the brilliant Mr. Wally Pfister orchestrated throughout the vigorous 3 hour film. Without a doubt, the vividness portrayed from the gritty lightening aids the goal of achieving timeless art through the process of using natural light to depict the different array of natural colors to create beauty. Another method of the brilliant cinematography that this film contains is the directing of the action sequences. Christopher Nolan constructed a scene prop that allows him to film night scenes during the day. This allows him to overexpose the lightening during the actual fighting that gives those ... • 36. The Common Urinary Tract Infection Bacterial urinary tract infections represent the most common type of nosocomial infections. Often, the ability of bacteria to both establish and maintain these infections are directly related to biofilm formation on indwelling devices or within the urinary tract itself (30). Enterococci (especially E. faecalis) are one of the main causative agents of urinary tract infection and Catheter associated urinary tract infections (CAUTIs) besides gram negative pathogens (31, 32). In these infections Biofilm provides a favorable milieu for microbial survival within the host as the organisms are shielded from the host immune response, as well as antibiotics and antimicrobial agents (33, 34). Several studies conducted to introduce main virulence genes of enterococci that are associated with biofilm formation in these bacteria (11, 13, 17), but virulence mechanism and related genes for biofilm formation are not well understood (35). In this study we investigated biofilm formation of clinical enterococci isolates isolated from Urinary tract infections. These strains were characterized for presence of adhesions and secretory virulence factors. Isolates had diverse presence of virulence from lack to highest amount of virulence genes. Several previous studies investigated relation of virulence genes and biofilm formation, especially presence of esp and gel. Enterococci esp has been implicated as a contributing factor in colonization and persistence of infection within the urinary tract ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. Nelson Mandel A True Inspiration For All Of Humanity Nelson Mandela: From Vision to Transformation A true inspiration for all of humanity, Nelson Mandela broke down barriers of social injustice, committing his life to the vision of a free and democratic society. His dedication and inspiration to those considered underprivileged or subjugated within their own governmental or political constraints serve as testaments to the power of leading with compassion and humility. Through his leadership and years of self sacrifice, Nelson Mandela became South Africa s first black president in 1994, when his greatest triumph ending his country s apartheid system came to fruition. His commitment to his vision and his ability to withstand political and social opposition over an extended period of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Vision Vision, whether linked to an institution, business, or individual, provides purpose and is critical to success. As argued by McFarland, Senn, and Childress (1994), Vision is to an organization what purpose is to an individual. Any individual who has strong life purpose is naturally motivated and moved to action. A vision for an organization has the same power, serving as a higher purpose (p.94). Establishing a clear vision brings a sense of unity and inspiration, whereby members of the team gain a sense of self motivation to follow in the same direction (McFarland, et.al.). Ownership of a vision does not rest solely on the leader; in contrast, uniting members of an organization and enabling them to share in the purpose are critical. Visionary leaders have the compassion and commitment to a cause that inspire those around them to believe in what they are doing. Visionary Leadership: Personal to Organizational Commitment Vision is a critical component to success, as it unites members of an organization or group with a common purpose. The creation of a vision, however, is not a simple process; as Yoeli and Berkovich (2010) noted, The process of formulating a vision is long and complex and usually begins with the leader s unique personal ethos (p.452). According to Katz (1999), when formulating a personal ethos, a leader is trying to determine the motivating factor to influence others, identify the purpose to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 38. The Controversial Role Of Hazing In The Present Day Hazing is a common ritual found in both academic and employment settings. Although hazing was instituted a few centuries ago, its prominence can still be seen in modern day society. For that reason, this paper will examine three areas that includes the background of hazing, the viewpoint comparison on hazing through two peer reviewed articles, and why hazing is still controversial in the present day. Background of Hazing According to Parks, Jones, Ray, Hughey, and Cox (2015), hazing as part of a rite of passage process dates back to the beginning of mankind with the first documented instances of organized hazing coming from ancient Greece, where prospective soldiers demonstrated their loyalty through painful and uncomfortable experiences ... The captain can remind teammates of the hazing prevention workshop and suggest a progressive team dinner where each senior member of the team provides a food course. (Heibert Klatt, 2001, p. 170 2; p. 17) Keep in mind that Waldron s (2012) suggestions for reducing hazing may have little influence due to the countervailing force of peer pressure (Edelman, 2005, p. 328). Therefore, it is highly unlikely that this contradictory approach will succeed using a short range tactic to replace a long range strategy (Fallacies, 2006, More..., para. 1 42; Heibert Klatt, 2001, p. 170 2). Hence, further discussions are needed to determine which author(s) presented the stronger argument. Taking all this into account, Waldron (2012) has presented a stronger argument than Josefowitz and Gadon (1989). The reason for this is due to Waldron (2012) maintaining a neutral position, while presenting strong scientific evidence on the subject of hazing. Also, the statistics presented by Waldron (2012) did not have any fallacies when compared to that of Josefowitz and Gadon (1989) (Fallacies, 2006, More..., para. 1 42). Based upon these differences and how society has changed its cultural stance on hazing, Waldron (2012) has clearly given the better argument and solution for stopping hazing. Hence, a further discussion is needed on why hazing remains a controversial ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This can be influenced by people around them and what they do, but they will find themselves eventually. Sandra Cisneros shows this through Esperanza in her novella The House on Mango Street. Esperanza through this aging and learning from her experiences. She very slowly, but very normally learning who she is. Esperanza s negative view of herself slowly changes as she begins to focus on her larger community and her place within it. Through this, Cisneros shows that knowing and accepting where one comes from is an important part of growing up and determining one s identity. Esperanza gets stunted from growing because of the people she s around. Everybody that s around her are either much younger or much older. This is shown by Esperanza using phrases like this kid in the vignette Our Good Day to describe people around her (Cisneros 14). Having nothing but kids around someone is only going to stop them from growing. Having someone that is ones age can help see what pace that person needs to be at in order to keep up. This however, is not the case with Esperanza. The only people who she is able to look up to are the adults in the area. This makes her want to grow up even faster then what she has.
