Stop Animal Medical Testing
Animals in Medical Research: Why it Should Stop.
Imagine being poked and prodded while being strapped to a table, what would it be like to do this on
daily bases against your will for months on end? Perhaps you can ask all the animals who suffer in
medical labs everyday. Animals are unable to give consent to being used this way, shouldn t there be a
way to protect them from this kind of torture? Although many don t believe that animals deserve
rights, protection should be given to animals used in medical research. Animals used against their will
in labs often face trauma, serious injuries, and even occasionally death. Why wouldn t someone want
to help free these animals?
Medical research including the use of animals in labs peaked in the 1980 s but that s not where it
started; the use of animals in medical labs became active when they began testing insulin in 1922 on
dogs. Some other developments from animal testing include things such as vaccines, drugs for hiv,and
potent cancer drugs. Although this testing has lead to great developments for the human race, and
many lives would be lost without some of these treatments, thousands of animals have had to suffer
along the way. Several years after these discoveries in 1966 the Animal Welfare Act was established,
which was put into place to keep animals from inhumane living conditions, and protect them from
neglect and mistreatment. However the animal welfare act does not protect animals such as rats, mice,

Voltaire s Candide and Goethe s The Sorrows of Young Werther
Voltaire s Candide and Goethe s The Sorrows of Young Werther
In the literary `movements of neo classicism and romanticism, Voltaire s Candide and Goethe s The
Sorrows of Young Werther represent the literary age in which they were written. In the following
composition, textual evidence will be provided to demonstrate how each book accurately represents
either the neo classicism age or the romanticism age. Candide and The Sorrows of Young Werther will
be examined separately, and then examined together. After, a discussion about how each age seems to
view the nature of man and the significance of moral and spiritual values will be presented. Also, a
personal interpretation of the conclusion of each book will be given. Lastly, quotes ... Show more

When Candide was faced with the true reality about Pacquette and the monk, he was unable to accept
that all was not well, `That sir...is one more misery of this way of life. Yesterday I was robbed and
beaten by an officer, and to day I must appear good humored to please a monk. This was enough for
Candide (Candide, 116).
The second characteristic from the neo classicism age that is present in Candide is Love=Sex. At the
beginning of the book, Candide s outlook on Cunegonde was purely physical, he found Lady
Cunegonde extremely beautiful...Their lips met, their eyes flashed, their knees trembled, and their
hands would not keep still (Candide, 20 21). By the end of the book, after searching for her the whole
duration of the story, his outlook on Cunegonde has changed, Even the fond lover himself drew back
aghast at seeing how weatherbeaten his lovely Cunegonde had become, for her eyes were bloodshot,
her throat was wizened, her cheeks were wrinkled, and her arms were red and scaly (Candide, 137). It
is plain to see that this love is only based on physical attraction, as opposed to spiritual. The third
characteristic of the neo classicism time period that is represented in Candide was the preference for
an urbane, civilized society. In Candide, much of the setting takes place in an urban society, rather
than rural society. He has been to all sorts of civilized towns and neighborhoods, such

Hysterectomy Essay
As previously mention, hysterectomy is the most frequent non pregnancies related surgeries
performed on women in the United States (Qi et al., 2013). Hysterectomies are the 2nd most
commonly performed procedures among women of childbearing age (Everyday Health, 2015). The
majority of women that undergo hysterectomy are usually between the ages of 35 and 54; within that
group women between the ages of 35 and 44 have the highest risk of undergo the procedure (Right
Diagnosis, 2015). 90% of the women are not really medically in need of the procedure, because they
are not life threatening conditions such as uterine fibroid, endometriosis and uterine prolapse
(Everyday Health, 2015). According to National Women s Health Information Center (NWHIC), in
the United States, approximately one third of all hysterectomies are performed for uterine fibroid
(Right Diagnosis, 2015). The 2nd most frequent condition that leads to hysterectomies is

Some of the risk factors associated with uterine fibroids are African American women, obesity, and
socioeconomic status (SES) and health access (National Institute Health, 2015). African American
Women African American women compared to Caucasian women are more probable to have
hysterectomy surgery (Bower, et al., 2009). The reason for that is African American women are 2 3
times more likely to be diagnosed with uterine fibroid, which is the primary sign of hysterectomy
surgery (Weiss et al., 2009). The fibroid in African American women tend to have more profuse
amount of tumor, they can be massively large, and are prone to more serve symptoms (White, 2015).
They are also more probable to develop uterine fibroid at a younger age (White, 2015). There have
been reports of younger African American women that have not started their period, that have sign of

Case Study Of DANDOY
5. The image of DANDOY may suffer in the eyes of customers, when goods are delivered by a third
party Usually, only tractors are being subcontracted, while trailers belong to DANDOY. One of the
actions, which can be performed internally, is to notify the customer that the goods will be delivered
by a third party and not DANDOY truck. Such approach reflects the responsibility, customer centric
mindset and respect. At the same time, large customers typically do not pay attention, which truck the
goods are being delivered with. This issue might raise with SME customers. However, by taking a
transparent and pro active approach, the misunderstanding and image harm can be avoided.

All three elements of this scenario i.e. operational efficiency, reduction of fuel consumption as well as
eliminating the drawbacks of subcontracting, will require management s involvement in all stages of

Hooked On A Myth By Victoria Braithwaite Analysis
Have you ever done something your parents told you not to do. Of course you have, everyone has at
one point, some of us did it because we wanted independence or just to show that we could. Well,
when I was 7 I had a weird obsession with touching the eyes of fish, I don t know why they just
looked shiny, glossy, soft, and smooth. My grandparents had a pet catfish and I would try to touch him
and my grandma would always say, Cyanne Marie leave that fish alone! , one day my grandma was
cleaning the fish tank and I snuck around the back to try and pick him up. A minute later I m running
towards the house screaming that the fish had a knife on his back and cut me, my grandparents both
laughed at me and to this day they keep reminding me about the ... Show more content on

The pixar movie is adorable and entertaining and adds to theories about fish s memories, a persistent
myth that fish can only remember something for 3 to 5 seconds, Dr. Kevin Warburton has been
studying fish behavior for the past 15 years at Charles Sturt University and he says that the theory is
nothing but Rubbish! . Warburton says that fish are sophisticated and that fish can remember prey
types and avoid that predator after being attacked once. They retain that memory for months and once
a fish has been caught on a hook and escape they are able to avoid hooks for at least a year, for
example about a year after the salmon is born they will follow the river to the ocean and six years later
they journey back home to respawn. If your fish at home is swimming around in circles in their bowl
it doesn t mean that they forgot that they already did that, it means that they re just bored, if I had
nothing to do all day 24/7 I would go in circles to and just keep singing, Just keep swimming, just
keep swimming, just keep swimming . Of course we want to defend fish they look dumb and we know
that they can t call for help and when we see someone string up a fish by its mouth, tail, or eye we
empathize. We assume it s painful and we imagine ourselves in that condition and then we get an
extent what they might be feeling. We try to share the emotional experience because observing their

Henry Kissinger Influence
This responsibility is awarded a tremendous amount of prestige by the general public, but it carries
with it the enormous burden of making the difficult decisions when they are necessary. The decades of
the mid 20th century are amongst some of the most influential in history in terms of political, social,
and economic effects on later decades. It was during a period of less than ten years that Henry A.
Kissinger occupied a government office in Washington D.C. and so greatly influenced the foreign
policy of not just President Nixon, but all Presidents and elected officials to come that were involved
in foreign affairs. The foreign policy of the United States was under the watchful, and some would say
maniacal supervision, of Kissinger for a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Henry Kissinger if nothing else was a prolific mind, with an IQ high enough that would more than
likely categorize him as a genius he seems to possess an unrelenting drive to be the smartest person in
the room. Possibly a result of the constant anti Semitic harassment that he experienced growing up as
a Jewish child in Germany during the rise of the Nazi Party, his motivation to succeed was quite
incredible. He arrived on the shores of the United States via New York City 1938 and immediately
began working in a shaving brush factory to help support his family. After completing high school in

Teaching-Learning Based Optimization Algorithm
Teaching−Learning Based Optimization Algorithm
TLBO is a recently proposed meta heuristic that imitates a successful and dynamic educational
strategy in a classroom [29 31]. Similar to most evolutionary algorithms, TLBO is a population based
algorithm. The population consists of some students and a teacher. The teacher is the most
knowledgeable one in the population.
The main advantage of this algorithm over other evolutionary algorithms is that TLBO has no
adjustable parameters, so there is no need to design a tuning mechanism for the parameters. The
educational strategy of this algorithm includes both direct and interactive instruction. Actually, not
only can the students be affected by their teacher, but also they can affect each other.
TLBO algorithm can be divided into two phases: 1 Teaching phase (direct instruction) 2 Learning
phase (interactive instruction). In the teaching phase, the teacher provides information for all the
students and the students learn from their teacher, while in the learning phase they can learn from each
other and develop their skills. The pseudo code of the proposed TLBO algorithm is shown in Figure 1.
Teaching phase
The best member is selected as the teacher in each iteration. The teacher trains his/her students. In
practice the teacher can only improve the mean of the students knowledge. Students improvement
depends on the students aptitude for learning. The knowledge of each student is changed according to
the following equations:

Childbirth During The Nineteenth Century Essay
The idea of childbirth has been viewed in three peculiar ways: a social natural occurrence, as a
passage to an early death, and in present times a medical procedure needed when having children. In
the seventieth and eighteenth century childbirth was seen as a social celebration conducted by
midwives, while in the nineteenth century fear of death arose due to an increase of maternal mortality
rates. This time period also served as a transition time between the elimination of the midwife and the
emergence of the physician. The transition was due to attitude changes and knowledge understanding.
During the twentieth century, medical knowledge expanded and thus the idea of childbirth was
medicalized into a medical procedure needed to have healthy children. Childbirth once seen as a
natural phenomenon was now an event that needed medical attention by health facilitators at
institutions of health. The ideas around childbirth developed based on the knowledge, cultural setting,
mortality rates, and professionals available at the time. Based on these ideas it is easy to see how
social and behavioral aspects influenced childbirth throughout the seventeenth, eighteenth, ninetieth
and twentieth centuries. In addition, the communities views on childbirth were influenced by the
development of public health infrastructure, public health policy advancement and how well public
officials were able to disseminate information. In the colonial era, the majority of women spent their
lives

Analysis:
8. What Screwtape means by the phrase second conversion is that the patient is recommitting to the
Lord. He is now accepting God again. I have experienced a second conversion . 9. Screwtape implies
that human beings should not follow genuine likes and dislikes because it could lead to them thinking
that they will recover. All of the time and effort Wormwood has put in will go to waste. That thick
layer of crust Wormwood has formed on the patient will peel off. 10. Peer pressure can definitely
create distance between God and us. Your friends could have you doing stuff that you thought you
would never be in. Things can go south rather quickly given an awkward enough situation. One can
respond to peer pressure by having a strong biblical foundation, and/or setting up guards around
oneself to prevent filth from entering into their life.
Dig Deeper: 11. True humility is doing things for other people. Furthermore, humble yourself as a
servant and put away your selfishness. Screwtape wants Wormwood to gratify the patient s
humbleness so that pride will form at his own humility. God wants us to push our humility towards
Him and those around us. Helping out others/humility pleases the Lord. 11. (Part Two) Based on the
exchange between Jesus and the scribe in Mark 12:28 34, Screwtape s analysis about humility is
reasonable. It can be difficult to achieve true humility because it is hard for us, as humans, to give up
our selfish ways. Having read

The Influence of Locke and Hobbes on Government
Thomas Hobbes and John Locke have authored two works that have had a significant impact on
political philosophy. In the Leviathan by Hobbes and Two Treatises of Government by Locke, the
primary focus was to analyze human nature to determine the most suitable type of government for
humankind. They will have confounding results. Hobbes concluded that an unlimited sovereign is the
only option, and would offer the most for the people, while for Locke such an idea was without merit.
He believed that the government should be limited, ruling under the law, with divided powers, and
with continued support from its citizens. With this paper I will argue that Locke had a more realistic
approach to identifying the human characteristics that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This absolute Sovereign will gain power when the citizens have given up the entirety of their rights to
this new authority and agreeing to a covenant. This is considered a rational action, and is the only
option for the body of people to smoothly come together. When that happens, an organized society
forms, in which the consequences of not adhering to the rules and regulations of the covenant will be
so severe, that no one would attempt to violate this contract and disobey the Sovereign. That can
happen since first, the Sovereign has deadly force and is permitted to use it whenever he or she likes,
and, second, the citizens have parted away with all their rights, and cannot protect themselves from
this Sovereign. That fact creates a fearful, and therefore, obedient society. This limitless Sovereign is
justified, based on information from the Leviathan. As we can infer from Hobbes views on human
nature, people will always act selfishly and in an evil manner to obtain the things that they want. As a
result, for people to contract into a peaceful society that will have what they want and need readily
available, they must be bound by force. If this distrustful group of people had an inclination that the
governing authority was weak, they would overturn it, fatefully returning them to the state of nature.
Additionally, this absolute monarchy is considered warranted, according to

Periphylla Periphylla: Helmet Jellyfish
The helmet jellyfish, scientifically known as periphylla periphylla has many interesting features and
many unique facts about it. When just looking at it, it resembles many jellyfish, the bell is different
from a regular jellyfish though. It has a life cycle that contains fourteen stages that explain how it is
formed and how it develops. Not much is known about this creature when it comes to reproduction
and its behavior. Just like many other species, food, temperature, and other geographical features
affect where it reproduces, lives and where it stays most of its lifetime. Even though a lot of things are
unknown about this species, we do know that it has a fairly long lifespan considering all the deadly

They are fairly big, on average about twenty centimeters long and up to thirty five centimeters in

usually found in the South Georgia Islands and Antarctica but are not found in areas like the Arctic
Ocean. Even though they tend to stay in these regions, where they move depends on the movement of
their prey and how conditions are in their current location. When they are forced to move they use
their tentacles and also their coronal groove which gives them the flexibility to move around faster by
the pulsations of the deltoid muscles in the bell (Sornes, 2008). These jellyfish tend to stay deep in the

Treatment includes forms of therapy like psychotherapy and drugs depending on the severity of
depression. Family and friends are important in recovery of depressed individuals by offering support
needed to follow prescriptions and support during recovery. Depressive disorders are diverse, but they
all affect the wellbeing of individuals in relation to their work, social relations, and education needs
(NIH, 2015).
Depressive Disorder
Concept
Every once in a while an individual experiences sadness and blue moods however they pass after
some time and the person resumes their life. Depressive disorders are characterized by sadness and
loss of interest in things that were once pleasurable (APA, 2013). In contrast to a mood that goes away
a person suffering from depressive disorders experience persistent episodes of sadness. Depressive
disorders in contrast to a bad mood affect the mental and physical functioning of a person and cause
deterioration in those functions. Depressive disorders change the thinking, feelings and behavior of the
affected person and they can become a threat to themselves and others (Olfson et al. 2005). People
snap out of bad moods, but individuals suffering from depressive disorders are sick and need medical
attention. Depressive disorders are common, and they vary from individual to individual in symptoms
and behavior. The symptoms will vary among males, females, young, elderly and even children.

The United States healthcare system is undergoing a tremendous amount of changes. Cost effective

Healthcare policy is needed to support this innovation. There are specific healthcare goals that require

prioritize goals and roles from different stakeholders in the healthcare field as well as promote the

Comparing Standard of Living and Quality of Life Between...
Gross Domestic Product (GDP) is the market value of all final goods and services produced by factors
of production within a country in a given period of time. It can be calculated using either the income,
output, or expenditure method as illustrated on the circular flow of income diagram below.
Standard of Living, in a purely material dimension is the average amount of GDP per person in a
country (therefore determining access to goods and services). However the term has a much broader,
non material dimension involving issues of quality of life and are therefore much more difficult to

economy in different country groups as a percentage of Official GDP, 1988 2000. It illustrates how
much of a nations output is reliant on the shadow economy. This is especially true of developing

Gender Roles In Arthur Conan Doyle s The Sign Of Four
The British Empire in the 19th century was flourishing, and no colony was more important to the
British than India, especially the unsuccessful 1857 Indian rebellion against British rule, which plays
an important if beneath the surface role in Arthur Conan Doyle s mystery novel, The Sign of Four. It
follows Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson as they try and solve the mystery of Miss Morstan s father s
disappearance and the mysterious pearls she has been receiving for the past six years. In Conan Doyle
s London, the influence of imperialism and Britain s colonies are visible in the décor of the home of
Thaddeus Sholto, in the form of artwork, rugs, and tapestries, all referred to as eastern luxuries . The
imperial theme does not stand on its own, however; the Agra Treasure also influences gender roles and
masculinity by affecting the relationship between Watson and Miss Morstan. In particular, it threatens
Watson s masculinity and largely determines whether or not he can marry Miss Morstan. Arthur
Conan Doyle s The Sign of Four upholds traditional gender norms through the love story of the simple
governess, Miss Morstan and the insecure Dr. Watson, but at the same time, he denounces love as an
emotion that leads people astray. The looming prospect of Miss Morstan becoming extremely wealthy
clearly weighs on Watson, and he becomes insecure with his own life and his ability to be able to love

Essay Jack London s To Build a Fire
Jack London s To Build a Fire
Nature is always pushing man to his limits. When man heeds the warning signs that nature has to offer
and those warnings of other men, he is most likely to conquer nature. When he ignores these
warnings, nature is sure to defeat man. To build a fire is a prime example of this scenario. In the short
story, To Build a Fire by Jack London, an inexperienced traveler in the Yukon travels alone with his
dog, even though it is ill advised to do so. The man is strong and smart but nature humbled him during
his quest to reach his friends. The man s inexperience with traveling in the cold subzero temperatures
doomed him from the beginning, but his strong focus under extreme pressure and his keen sense of ...

He had the book smarts about walking through the Yukon but he lacked the street smarts. He may lack
experience and imagination in traveling in subzero temperatures but his calm nature allows him to stay
focused, even when the fire is snuffed out by the falling snow from the tree and he thought of it as
hearing his own death sentence. It was as though he had just heard his own sentence of death. For a
moment he sat and stared at the spot where the fire had been. Then he grew very calm. (London, 529)
Furthermore, when he is sure he will lose his toes and fingers, he does not lose sight of his most
important goal, surviving. London tells how, even when in grave danger, the man regroups without
panic and strong belief in his own abilities. Well, it was up to him to build the fire over again, and this
second time there must be no failure. Even if he succeeded, he would most likely lose some toes and
Such were his thoughts, but he did not sit and think them. (London, 529)
When his inexperience exposes itself to him, he remembers the old timers words of wisdom. The man
did not realize the prudence behind the old timer s words of wisdom. He ignored the old timers
cautions and dangers of traveling alone, making him foolish and naïve to his situation. That man from
Sulphur Creek had spoken the truth when telling how cold it sometimes got in the country. And he had
laughed at him at the time! (London, 528)
The man blinds himself with his

The Technology Of Cloud Computing
1.0 Introduction With the rapid expansion of cloud computing and the escalating hype of future
technology, it is essential to understand the possibilities it can bring to the current and the future
digital world. This report will explore and go into brief detail regarding the technology of cloud
computing. It will cover subject areas such as, what is the cloud, the history, the benefits and the
drawbacks. The report will also look into current cloud systems that are live and are in use which will
include some of our personal views within the report. 2.0 What is Cloud Computing Cloud computing
is a general term used to describe a new class of network based computing that takes place over the
internet, this is a step up from utility computing (which is a collection or a group of integrated and
networked hardware, software on a platform). 3.0 History of Cloud Computing The foundations of
cloud computing can be found back to pre historic times however the idea was formulated in 1961 by
John McCarthy, (when he gave a speech to celebrate the MIT Centennial). McCarthy developed the
concept of computer time sharing, which allows several people to use a single, central, computer at the
same time. If this approach should be implemented, he claimed in 1961, Computing may someday be
organised as a public utility . The concept of time sharing has been made possible by the development
of so called cloud computing (the delivery of computing as a service rather than a

Meaning Of Sports Michael Mandelbaum Summary
Rejected by Rose, screamed, TNT broadcaster, Kevin Harlan. Derrick Rose s block on Rajon Rondo s
shot was the play that forced game 7 and kept the Bull s season alive. The 2009 first round series
between the Chicago Bulls and the reigning NBA champions, Boston Celtics was the best playoff
series I ever watched. What does Rose s late game heroics have to do with anything? The excitement
of the sport of basketball. My paper will be about my favorite sport to watch and play I will also
mention about my favorite sport to participate in ancillary. Afterward, I will relate my favorite sport to
Michael Mandelbaum s The Meaning of Sports and offer my opinion on the book. Out of the three
professionalized, spectator driven sports my favorite to watch ... Show more content on

For starters, Mandelbaum is very long winded his chapters go on forever. There are certain ideas that
he can convey in 5 pages but instead, he chooses to do so in 15 pages. His writing style is so plain that
it makes following the chapters that much harder. The information that Mandelbaum presents about in
relation to the sports of baseball, football and basketball are good I just wish his chapters were shorter.
Information can get lost quickly if there are 80 pages of information to read about one sport. Aside
from that, I learned a lot from his chapter about basketball. In chronological order, Mandelbaum
writes how the game of basketball shifted from a sport that was primarily white to primarily African
American. The first African American player to enter the NBA was in 1950. By the 1980s four out of
every five starting players in the league were black. Mandelbaum makes the argument that African
Americans were needed in the league or else the game would not have been as developed as it is now.
The game as it developed would have been far poorer in every way without them (Mandelbaum,248).
The same time that the professional game was developing so too was the street game. In chapter 4 I
learned about the winner take all market. According to investopedia.com, this is a concept in which
the best performers are able to capture a very large share of the rewards, and the remaining
competitors are left with very little. The chances of most African American making it to the NBA is
very slim, according to the book chances are 135,800 to

Rhetoric Carpenter Ants
The zombie fungus has mostly been known to control the brains of ants, but don t manipulate just any

different types of brains from different ant species and only releases its mind controlling chemical

relationship is known as a behavioural manipulation which is a complex characteristic that is a close

There Will Come Soft Rains Analysis
Amidst the conflict and aggression of war in our current day, humans have regularly put themselves
on the brink of self destruction. Atomic bombs, chemical warfare, and traditional battle have caused
the human race to slaughter innocent citizens and break valuable international alliances; therefore,
destroying each other senselessly. This dilemma appears frequently in modern literature as we witness
the aftermath of mankind s self destruction. A theme laced through this literature is that humans will
face the consequences of their oblivious actions. This theme appears in Ray Bradbury s There Will
Come Soft Rains, Sara Teasdale s There Will Come Soft Rains, Stephen Vincent Benet s Nightmare
Number Three, and Stephen Vincent Benet s By the Waters

The, Artificial Intelligence Pioneer, By Edward Hoagland
A question that is asked by nearly all of us: what accumulates the human species. By my definition, a
human is a mortal mammal that has the ability to think, feel, and react, as they desire; furthermore,
nearly all feel the urge of acceptance and compassion. Marvin Minsky, artificial intelligence pioneer:
We do something other species can t: We remember. We have cultures, ways of transmitting
information (Wired.com). Specifically, Minsky is indicating that being a human means we can
transmit information, for example, expressing our emotions. We each react to our heartache and our
bliss in different fashions. Moreover, we all have unique qualities that separate one another. A couple

Hoagland s story, vastly connects to me due to growing up with a speech impediment. Kids in my
class mocked me; this made me insecure, and I had a difficult time communicating with others. Even
though my speech therapist at school helped me improve, I still slip up occasionally. These restrictions
have cause sounding and spelling out my words to be tough, even to this today. Furthermore, people
still pester me when I mess up and become nervous, talk to brisk, or read; similar to Hoagland, I have
learned to manage it. When people tease me, I laugh with them and proceed forward. Another example
from The Writer s Presence is a story written by Nancy Mairs, who has contributed poetry, short
stories, articles, and essays to numerous journals. She wrote an essay called On Being a Cripple,
which described her experience of coping with her disabilities: a weak left leg, little usage of her left
hand, a decreasing ability to her right side, and a blurred spot in her right eye. She explains that she is
blessed that God picked her, knowing she was a strong woman that could handle it. If a cure were
found, would I take it? In a minute. In my brand of theology, God doesn t give bonus points for a limp.
I d take a cure; I just don t need one. A friend who also has MS startled me once by asking, Do you
ever say to yourself, Why me Lord? No Michael, I don t, I told him, because whenever I try, the only
response I can think of is Why Not? If I could

The Contributions Of James Madison
As the boundaries of freedom are challenged and expanded in the United States, the understanding of
rights in America will continue to change. The freedoms of speech, press, religion, petition, and
assembly have shaped the United States for centuries and has allowed for a freedom unprecedented in
the world. America s rights and freedoms can be seen as a beacon to the world, beckoning emigrants
from all over the world to join the American community. Many of these rights are the result or the
descendent of the ideas of James Madison. Truly, James Madison s life was one led almost exclusively
in the pursuit of liberty, justice, and freedom for the American people. Madison, through a life of
service to his nation, as a Congressman, Secretary of State, and, finally, President, greatly improved
the fortunes of the early United States, as well as defining the properties of American government for
generations to come as the Father of the Constitution . James Madison was born on March 16th, 1751,
to Nelly Conway and James Madison, Sr, at the Montpelier plantation in eastern Virginia. As an infant
and as a young boy, James was frail and wan; his parents worried he would not survive to adulthood.
His ill health was compounded by the beginning of the French Indian War in 1754. As a result of the
war, the Madison family was prey to Indian attacks during the, sparking a fear in young James that
would develop into a lifelong racism against them. In 1762, at the age of 11, Madison was

Rosie Kang s Narrative-She Doesn T Work
If there was anything that Rosie Kang was set on that evening, it was that there was absolutely nothing
in the universe that mini cupcakes couldn t fix. While her stress levels weren t any higher than usual,
she was fretful enough to keep nosing around the snacks table for a good ten minutes, looking for
something to quell the pit in her stomach. The refreshment table was going to be her best friend for the
night, she could already feel it. It wasn t that she didn t like her table in fact, considering she got to
drag Robyn out of her shell and gush over Frankie s totally hot get up all night, it was a total dream.
No, it was the complete idleness that threw her for a loop; the prospect of not working at all and
actually enjoying herself for a night seemed wonderful, but like a total impossibility. Rosie pursed her
lips, lost in her thoughts as she tossed another lining into one of the many conveniently Hollywood
themed (spray painted a glittery gold) trash cans. She was never going to be able to relax at this rate.

decked out in formal wear. All she needed was a halo. She even looked vaguely familiar, to tell the
truth, but Rosie was at a complete loss for a name. As a super senior, she spent the brunt of her time
with other people in her grade. The corner of her lips quirked up into a knowing smirk nonetheless,
albeit a flattered one. Spotting the girl s grin (not to mention the mischievous gleam in her eye as if
she d be able to miss it), it was difficult not to match

Qualities Of Women In Beowulf
Supernatural Dangerous Women
Beowulf and Sir Gawain and the Green Knight are both Anglo Saxon poems that share a male
dominated world with few female characters who have supernatural qualities. While the men in both
stories have noble qualities, the women are portrayed adversely; they are disregarded even though
they play an essential part to the story as either peace weavers or goaders to exert some sort of power.
In Beowulf there are three main women: Wealhtheow, Grendel s mother, and Hildeburh. These women
would amuse, bring contentment, or counteract their society s expectations of women in general.
While the common role of a woman in this story is depicted as feeble and is dismissively mentioned,
the Monster s mom (who is intentionally nameless to mirror the idea of a male dominated civilization)
fights like a male warrior, claiming her position as a goader; one who provokes, annoys, or stimulates
an action or reaction physically.

35 War strength of women, by warrior is reckoned,
When well carved weapon, worked with the hammer,
Blade very bloody, brave with its edges,
Strikes down the boar sign that stands on the helmet. (45)
Wealhtheow and Hildeburh were both peace weavers; those that were married to a member of an
opposing tribe for the purpose of initiating peace between quarrelling groups. Accept this cup, my
noble lord, gold giving king; be

A Comparison of Tragedy in Hamlet, The Book of Job, and...
Interpretations of Tragedy in Hamlet, The Book of Job, and Oedipus Rex
For ages, man has pondered upon the roots of destiny. Is the outcome of a man s life determined by
human qualities and failings, the meddling of a divine power, or simple fate? Shakespeare s Hamlet
made the argument that tragedy is caused by human folly. The idea that divine intervention is at the
root of human suffering is put forth in the Book of Job. In Sophocles Oedipus Rex, fate is given as the
root of man s suffering. Three divergent perspectives on the origins of calamity exist within the
tragedies Hamlet, Job, and Oedipus Rex. Shakespeare s Hamlet enforced the idea that Human
suffering is a result of human faults. Hamlet possesses extreme ... Show more content on

While looking at the corpse, Hamlet said, You poor, reckless, meddling fool, goodbye! / I thought you
were the King (Hamlet III.iv.30 31). This act of carelessness led to Polonius s son, Laertes, to
challenge Hamlet to a duel. This duel led to Hamlet s death as well as the death of his mother. Hamlet
s own faults led to his doom, but the faults of others also contributed to Hamlets fate. When Claudius
killed Hamlet s father, the revenge tragedy was set into motion. Without this singular act of evil, there
would be no conflict. Hamlet would have lived a good, peaceful life. The character Polonius had faults
that also led to the downfall of Hamlet. When Hamlet heard Polonius behind the curtain he said, What
is this? A rat (Hamlet III.iv.24). In a sense Hamlet was correct. Polonius was a rat... an insignificant,
conniving creature. In the course of his meddling, Polonius was stabbed to death by the confused
Hamlet. Polonius death lead to the duel that took Hamlet s life and the life of his beloved mother.
Shakespeare s Hamlet puts forth the notion that human folly is responsible for human misery, but the
Book of Job suggests that God is at the center of a man s misfortune. Job was an upright man, without
sin or fault. He was God s favored, and because of this, was granted wealth and progeny beyond the
dreams of most mortal men. The story shows how our fate can be quickly turned by the whim of the
Almighty.

The Signs Of Mania And Depression
Just being aware of the signs of mania and depression can significantly help a loved one who suffers
from bipolar. Knowing what to do in these situations is key, and being supportive goes a long way. In
violent situations, the bipolar individual might need to be medicated or sedated. Jamison speaks
frankly about violent outbursts she s had throughout her life and within her relationships. Both my
manias and depressions had violent sides to them. Violence, especially if you re a woman, is not
something spoken about with ease. Being wildly out of control physically assaultive, screaming
insanely at the top of ones lungs, running frenetically with no purpose or limit, or impulsively trying
to leap from cars is frightening to others and unspeakably terrifying to oneself. In blind manic rages I
have done all of these things, at one time or another, and some of them repeatedly; I remain acutely
aware of how difficult it is to control or understand such behaviors, much less explain them to others.
(Jamison 120). A popular show currently on television that depicts a realistic and accurate account of
bipolar disorder is Homeland. The award winning Showtime cable TV series starring Claire Danes as
Carrie Mathison, a CIA agent with bipolar disorder, tells a spellbinding story of espionage and
counterterrorism in the middle and Far East, but also accurately depicts mental illness as it occurs in
real life. // Her character portrays volatility and unpredictability that often

  • 2. Stop Animal Medical Testing Animals in Medical Research: Why it Should Stop. Imagine being poked and prodded while being strapped to a table, what would it be like to do this on daily bases against your will for months on end? Perhaps you can ask all the animals who suffer in medical labs everyday. Animals are unable to give consent to being used this way, shouldn t there be a way to protect them from this kind of torture? Although many don t believe that animals deserve rights, protection should be given to animals used in medical research. Animals used against their will in labs often face trauma, serious injuries, and even occasionally death. Why wouldn t someone want to help free these animals? Medical research including the use of animals in labs peaked in the 1980 s but that s not where it started; the use of animals in medical labs became active when they began testing insulin in 1922 on dogs. Some other developments from animal testing include things such as vaccines, drugs for hiv,and potent cancer drugs. Although this testing has lead to great developments for the human race, and many lives would be lost without some of these treatments, thousands of animals have had to suffer along the way. Several years after these discoveries in 1966 the Animal Welfare Act was established, which was put into place to keep animals from inhumane living conditions, and protect them from neglect and mistreatment. However the animal welfare act does not protect animals such as rats, mice, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to the humane society 85 90 percent of animals used are rats. • 3. Voltaire s Candide and Goethe s The Sorrows of Young Werther Voltaire s Candide and Goethe s The Sorrows of Young Werther In the literary `movements of neo classicism and romanticism, Voltaire s Candide and Goethe s The Sorrows of Young Werther represent the literary age in which they were written. In the following composition, textual evidence will be provided to demonstrate how each book accurately represents either the neo classicism age or the romanticism age. Candide and The Sorrows of Young Werther will be examined separately, and then examined together. After, a discussion about how each age seems to view the nature of man and the significance of moral and spiritual values will be presented. Also, a personal interpretation of the conclusion of each book will be given. Lastly, quotes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When Candide was faced with the true reality about Pacquette and the monk, he was unable to accept that all was not well, `That sir...is one more misery of this way of life. Yesterday I was robbed and beaten by an officer, and to day I must appear good humored to please a monk. This was enough for Candide (Candide, 116). The second characteristic from the neo classicism age that is present in Candide is Love=Sex. At the beginning of the book, Candide s outlook on Cunegonde was purely physical, he found Lady Cunegonde extremely beautiful...Their lips met, their eyes flashed, their knees trembled, and their hands would not keep still (Candide, 20 21). By the end of the book, after searching for her the whole duration of the story, his outlook on Cunegonde has changed, Even the fond lover himself drew back aghast at seeing how weatherbeaten his lovely Cunegonde had become, for her eyes were bloodshot, her throat was wizened, her cheeks were wrinkled, and her arms were red and scaly (Candide, 137). It is plain to see that this love is only based on physical attraction, as opposed to spiritual. The third characteristic of the neo classicism time period that is represented in Candide was the preference for an urbane, civilized society. In Candide, much of the setting takes place in an urban society, rather than rural society. He has been to all sorts of civilized towns and neighborhoods, such ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The majority of women that undergo hysterectomy are usually between the ages of 35 and 54; within that group women between the ages of 35 and 44 have the highest risk of undergo the procedure (Right Diagnosis, 2015). 90% of the women are not really medically in need of the procedure, because they are not life threatening conditions such as uterine fibroid, endometriosis and uterine prolapse (Everyday Health, 2015). The image of DANDOY may suffer in the eyes of customers, when goods are delivered by a third party Usually, only tractors are being subcontracted, while trailers belong to DANDOY. One of the actions, which can be performed internally, is to notify the customer that the goods will be delivered by a third party and not DANDOY truck. Such approach reflects the responsibility, customer centric mindset and respect. At the same time, large customers typically do not pay attention, which truck the goods are being delivered with. • 6. Hooked On A Myth By Victoria Braithwaite Analysis Have you ever done something your parents told you not to do. Of course you have, everyone has at one point, some of us did it because we wanted independence or just to show that we could. Well, when I was 7 I had a weird obsession with touching the eyes of fish, I don t know why they just looked shiny, glossy, soft, and smooth. My grandparents had a pet catfish and I would try to touch him and my grandma would always say, Cyanne Marie leave that fish alone! , one day my grandma was cleaning the fish tank and I snuck around the back to try and pick him up. A minute later I m running towards the house screaming that the fish had a knife on his back and cut me, my grandparents both laughed at me and to this day they keep reminding me about the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The pixar movie is adorable and entertaining and adds to theories about fish s memories, a persistent myth that fish can only remember something for 3 to 5 seconds, Dr. Kevin Warburton has been studying fish behavior for the past 15 years at Charles Sturt University and he says that the theory is nothing but Rubbish! . Warburton says that fish are sophisticated and that fish can remember prey types and avoid that predator after being attacked once. They retain that memory for months and once a fish has been caught on a hook and escape they are able to avoid hooks for at least a year, for example about a year after the salmon is born they will follow the river to the ocean and six years later they journey back home to respawn. If your fish at home is swimming around in circles in their bowl it doesn t mean that they forgot that they already did that, it means that they re just bored, if I had nothing to do all day 24/7 I would go in circles to and just keep singing, Just keep swimming, just keep swimming, just keep swimming . Of course we want to defend fish they look dumb and we know that they can t call for help and when we see someone string up a fish by its mouth, tail, or eye we empathize. We assume it s painful and we imagine ourselves in that condition and then we get an extent what they might be feeling. Henry Kissinger Influence This responsibility is awarded a tremendous amount of prestige by the general public, but it carries with it the enormous burden of making the difficult decisions when they are necessary. The decades of the mid 20th century are amongst some of the most influential in history in terms of political, social, and economic effects on later decades. It was during a period of less than ten years that Henry A. Kissinger occupied a government office in Washington D.C. and so greatly influenced the foreign policy of not just President Nixon, but all Presidents and elected officials to come that were involved in foreign affairs. The foreign policy of the United States was under the watchful, and some would say maniacal supervision, of Kissinger for a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Henry Kissinger if nothing else was a prolific mind, with an IQ high enough that would more than likely categorize him as a genius he seems to possess an unrelenting drive to be the smartest person in the room. Possibly a result of the constant anti Semitic harassment that he experienced growing up as a Jewish child in Germany during the rise of the Nazi Party, his motivation to succeed was quite incredible. He arrived on the shores of the United States via New York City 1938 and immediately began working in a shaving brush factory to help support his family. • 8. Teaching-Learning Based Optimization Algorithm Teaching−Learning Based Optimization Algorithm TLBO is a recently proposed meta heuristic that imitates a successful and dynamic educational strategy in a classroom [29 31]. Similar to most evolutionary algorithms, TLBO is a population based algorithm. The population consists of some students and a teacher. The teacher is the most knowledgeable one in the population. The main advantage of this algorithm over other evolutionary algorithms is that TLBO has no adjustable parameters, so there is no need to design a tuning mechanism for the parameters. The educational strategy of this algorithm includes both direct and interactive instruction. Actually, not only can the students be affected by their teacher, but also they can affect each other. TLBO algorithm can be divided into two phases: 1 Teaching phase (direct instruction) 2 Learning phase (interactive instruction). In the teaching phase, the teacher provides information for all the students and the students learn from their teacher, while in the learning phase they can learn from each other and develop their skills. The pseudo code of the proposed TLBO algorithm is shown in Figure 1. Teaching phase The best member is selected as the teacher in each iteration. The teacher trains his/her students. In practice the teacher can only improve the mean of the students knowledge. Students improvement depends on the students aptitude for learning. The knowledge of each student is changed according to the following equations: ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Childbirth During The Nineteenth Century Essay The idea of childbirth has been viewed in three peculiar ways: a social natural occurrence, as a passage to an early death, and in present times a medical procedure needed when having children. In the seventieth and eighteenth century childbirth was seen as a social celebration conducted by midwives, while in the nineteenth century fear of death arose due to an increase of maternal mortality rates. This time period also served as a transition time between the elimination of the midwife and the emergence of the physician. The transition was due to attitude changes and knowledge understanding. During the twentieth century, medical knowledge expanded and thus the idea of childbirth was medicalized into a medical procedure needed to have healthy children. Childbirth once seen as a natural phenomenon was now an event that needed medical attention by health facilitators at institutions of health. The ideas around childbirth developed based on the knowledge, cultural setting, mortality rates, and professionals available at the time. Based on these ideas it is easy to see how social and behavioral aspects influenced childbirth throughout the seventeenth, eighteenth, ninetieth and twentieth centuries. In addition, the communities views on childbirth were influenced by the development of public health infrastructure, public health policy advancement and how well public officials were able to disseminate information. In the colonial era, the majority of women spent their lives ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Analysis: 8. What Screwtape means by the phrase second conversion is that the patient is recommitting to the Lord. He is now accepting God again. I have experienced a second conversion . 9. All of the time and effort Wormwood has put in will go to waste. That thick layer of crust Wormwood has formed on the patient will peel off. 10. Peer pressure can definitely create distance between God and us. Your friends could have you doing stuff that you thought you would never be in. Things can go south rather quickly given an awkward enough situation. One can respond to peer pressure by having a strong biblical foundation, and/or setting up guards around oneself to prevent filth from entering into their life. Dig Deeper: 11. True humility is doing things for other people. Furthermore, humble yourself as a servant and put away your selfishness. Screwtape wants Wormwood to gratify the patient s humbleness so that pride will form at his own humility. God wants us to push our humility towards Him and those around us. Helping out others/humility pleases the Lord. 11. (Part Two) Based on the exchange between Jesus and the scribe in Mark 12:28 34, Screwtape s analysis about humility is reasonable. It can be difficult to achieve true humility because it is hard for us, as humans, to give up our selfish ways. Having read ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

So when it was finally time for me to do that, I learned very quickly that it was not as easy as it looked. • 12. The Influence of Locke and Hobbes on Government Thomas Hobbes and John Locke have authored two works that have had a significant impact on political philosophy. In the Leviathan by Hobbes and Two Treatises of Government by Locke, the primary focus was to analyze human nature to determine the most suitable type of government for humankind. They will have confounding results. Hobbes concluded that an unlimited sovereign is the only option, and would offer the most for the people, while for Locke such an idea was without merit. He believed that the government should be limited, ruling under the law, with divided powers, and with continued support from its citizens. With this paper I will argue that Locke had a more realistic approach to identifying the human characteristics that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This absolute Sovereign will gain power when the citizens have given up the entirety of their rights to this new authority and agreeing to a covenant. This is considered a rational action, and is the only option for the body of people to smoothly come together. When that happens, an organized society forms, in which the consequences of not adhering to the rules and regulations of the covenant will be so severe, that no one would attempt to violate this contract and disobey the Sovereign. That can happen since first, the Sovereign has deadly force and is permitted to use it whenever he or she likes, and, second, the citizens have parted away with all their rights, and cannot protect themselves from this Sovereign. That fact creates a fearful, and therefore, obedient society. This limitless Sovereign is justified, based on information from the Leviathan. As we can infer from Hobbes views on human nature, people will always act selfishly and in an evil manner to obtain the things that they want. As a result, for people to contract into a peaceful society that will have what they want and need readily available, they must be bound by force. If this distrustful group of people had an inclination that the governing authority was weak, they would overturn it, fatefully returning them to the state of nature. When just looking at it, it resembles many jellyfish, the bell is different from a regular jellyfish though. It has a life cycle that contains fourteen stages that explain how it is formed and how it develops. Not much is known about this creature when it comes to reproduction and its behavior. Just like many other species, food, temperature, and other geographical features affect where it reproduces, lives and where it stays most of its lifetime. The first African American player to enter the NBA was in 1950. By the 1980s four out of every five starting players in the league were black. Mandelbaum makes the argument that African Americans were needed in the league or else the game would not have been as developed as it is now. America s rights and freedoms can be seen as a beacon to the world, beckoning emigrants from all over the world to join the American community.
