Summary Of The Blizzard, The Painted Door And Locket s Tale
We ve read a lot of short stories about Canada in recent months and I really enjoyed to read them. We
read The Blizzard, The Painted Door and The Locket. They are all sad stories that happened in the
cold Canadian winter. These are stories that show people s psychological conflicts, the separation of
joys and sorrows, and these things happen in the past, so they are all stories about memories. There is
always someone dying in the cold winter. These stories have the same almost setting, including
location selection and season selection, although the roles were different. related them to My
Grandfather s House, you will find that, they all about memories and these stories were all happened

important social dimension. The factor explains 37.58% of the total variance. The factor has high load
for the variables of population with high school diploma and non agricultural population, with a
coefficient of +0.960 and +0.954, respectively. Compared with the population with high school
education, the load of population with post secondary and tertiary education in this factor is +0.514.

proportion of non agricultural laborers with high school education and high income occupations.
Negative high scores represent a corresponding low proportion, which means high proportion of low
income and dependent non adult population. High quality employment mainly distribute in the central
city, Wuhan Iron and Steel Group Industrial Zone, and Ge Hua Industrial Zone. Low quality
employment is relatively concentrated in the periphery of the central city.

Three generation and above families are the second important factor for urban social development of
Wuhan in the 1980s, while the elderly population is one of the characteristics of the extended family.
The factor of large family interpret 22.12% of urban social development. From the perspective of
variable load analysis, the load of two generation households is 0.965, while the load of three
generation and above households is +0.836, which reflects the extended household is mainstream of
the family structure. The proportion of elderly population and divorced or widowed population in this

Poem Analysis Billy Collins
In 2001, the American population was shocked by the terrorist attack on the World Trade Center in
New York City. Two planes were hijacked and rammed into the twin towers. As soon as the first plane
hit, news reporters began to broadcast the event on every news station throughout the country. In the
next moment, a second plane crashed into the other building, and it was witnessed on live television. A
frenzy of panic and uncertainty engulfed the American society and patriotism soared. A multitude of
citizens was lost on this tragic day either by direct impact or saving the life of another. On September
11, 2002, one year after the horrendous moment in history, Billy Collins wrote a poem to memorialize
all those who departed from the physical ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Collins then begins to recite names of all those lost or affected by the tragedy. Starting with the letter
A and working down the alphabet all the way through Z. I started with A, with Ackerman, as it
happened. The Young and Ziminsky, the final jolt of Z (lines 5,43). Each letter of the alphabet
symbolizes a person who fell victim to the invasion. Moreover, each letter represents a name of a real
story of a life that perished ( The Names, Literary Analysis on a poem by Billy Collins , 1). The next
line, Davis and Eberling, names falling into place , describes two men who in trying to save others, the
building collapsed on them (line 7). Davis was a port authority officer who rushed into the building to
save the victims but could not save himself. His last words were those of heroism: One more trip . He
then was crushed from the impact of falling concrete and the iron structure of the building. Dean
Eberling, the other man, was stuck in an elevator and allowed two women to escape. By the time it
was his turn to crawl out it was too late, and he did not make it ( The Names, Literary Analysis on a

Filippo Brunelleschi Accomplishments
One of the world s most famous architects and engineers was born in the Italian city state of Florence
sometime in 1377. Although he had a huge influence on building design and construction, and on art,
we don t know a lot about Filippo Brunelleschi s early life. Nonetheless, he left buildings and artwork
that still exist today, and he had two biographers who provided information about his work, from these
we can learn a lot about this Renaissance genius. His most important work, the ll Duomo di Firenze
(the Dome of the Florence Cathedral), was finished in 1436 and remains as one of the greatest
symbols of the period. Before he started building this revolutionary structure, Brunelleschi studied the
architecture of Roman buildings and monuments. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Filippo Brunelleschi invented new technology for the dome and created far more advanced technology
to help the dome be built. He began studying the science of motion and particular weights, wheels,
and gears and it lead him to invent some of the first alarm clocks, as well as some of the equipment to
raise the bricks from the ground to the roof (King, 13). In addition, Brunelleschi also made sure that
the dome was being built to his standard and it was going to last a long time. For example, he
inspected every one of the four million bricks that he was going to use for the structure. Another
important quality of the dome was the mortar used to hold the bricks together. It was made by mixing
sand and water with quicklime (King, 93). The quality of the bricks and mortar was only the
beginning. He worked out how to set the bricks for the greatest strength to support the weight of the
dome by having them set in a criss crossing herringbone pattern (Mueller, 84). The brickwork was
crucial because the bricks needed to make up the dome without any outside support. In order to do this
Brunelleschi linked the bricks in a spiral going up to the top, called a herringbone pattern. The vertical
bricks acted as book ends to keep the horizontal bricks in place. The ll Duomo di Firenze was built to
be an eight sided dome that stood taller and stronger than others during that time period.

The Conflict Between The Protagonist And Antagonist In The...
In the film Mean Girls, the storyline is primarily driven by the conflict between the protagonist and
antagonist. The main character, Cady Heron, is both. Reasons why she could be the protagonist are
that she is innocent, kind hearted, and also very smart and honest. In the beginning of the film, Cady
doesn t know how high school works. Guys such as Jason, sexualize her and she does not really
understand what he s talking about. This is where her innocence and her misunderstanding of what he
said to her takes place. After this, Cady s kind heart steps in. Cady is told by Janis and Damian about
the horrible Plastics at the school. They explain what they do and how they work. Even though Cady
hears about how awful they are,she decides to give them a chance anyways. She sits at lunch with The
Plastics and ends up going to the mall and hanging out with them and later on becomes their friend.

from her superiority of The Plastics, someone will have to take Regina s place, and Gretchen and
Karen could both agree that Cady would be the next Regina. Another time where Cady could be seen
as being the next Regina George is whenever she won Spring Fling Queen. Cady is chosen because
after Regina s accident, the student body thinks that she will fall into Regina s place as being the
leader of The Plastics. Cady struggles with fitting in but she comes to realize that being popular doesn

Ageism, Or Prejudice And Discrimination Associated With A...
Ageism, or the prejudice and discrimination associated with a person s age, has become a widely
researched topic among scholars over the last few decades. The deficit model of ageing characterizes
old age as a pathological condition in which individuals undergo physical and mental decline (Allen,
2011). Growing old has developed into a major social problem in Western culture, and most
individuals accept the stereotypes and stigma related to ageing. Companies, often phase out older
employees by hiring young individuals who are perceived as being less of a risk, and more of an asset
to the company. The exclusion of older individuals is especially prevalent in industries related to
media and professional sports. Media, favors young individuals because they convey an image of
beauty, vigour, and energy. Similarly, professional athletes are often forced to retire early, due to the
recruitment process of professional sports teams. The objective of this study aims to uncover ageism
in the dance community, because dance combines beauty and athleticism, two traits that are
considered to decline with age.
The study discusses age discrimination within the dance community through an exploration of
previous research conducted on the topic, and a qualitative analysis of interviews conducted with three
dancers via email. The dancers who participated in this study discuss their background as dancers,
their age, and their perception of age as a dancer. The participants acknowledge that

Mask Dances of Bhutan
Mask Dance (Cham)
Classical dances in Bhutan are reflected in the religious mask pageants and ritual dances. With the
introduction of Buddhism in the 8th century AD by Guru Padmasambhava from Tibet, ritual and mask
dances gained roots in the Bhutanese system as part of the Mahayana Buddhist tradition. With the
birth of the great Terton (treasure revealer) Pema Lingpa in the 15th century, the mask dances in
Bhutan took firm roots and gained an impetus as part of the Bhutanese cultural life. The Ter Cham
(treasure dances) and Pe Ling Ging Sum were the most famous of the dances that still continues to this
day. In the 17th century with the arrival of Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal from Tibet, the mask dances

There are many versions about the introduction of the Dramitse Ngachham. Most historians say that
the dance was first introduced by Khedrup Kuenga Gyeltshen in Ogyen Thechog Choling monastery.
This man was said to be a brother of Ani Choten Zangmo who settled at Dramitse after naming the
place. Khedup Kuenga, while undergoing a retreat had a vision of three beautiful women who had the
heavenly form, dressed in silken clothes with precious gems. These three heavenly bodies guided him
to the abode of Guru Rinpoche where he witnessed celestial heroes and heroines performing a dance.
After this incident, Khedrup Kuenga introduced the dance according to the prophecy made by Guru in
his vision.
The nineteenth century versions of the Dramitse Ngacham say that dance was also introduced in other
parts of Bhutan by the end of nineteenth century.
Today, the dance has evolved from a local event, centered on a particular community into an art form,
representing the identity of the Bhutanese nation as a whole. Drametse Ngacham was also proclaimed
as the masterpiece of the world intangible heritage in November 2005.

The characters do not follow a strict guideline of good or evil but alternate according to the plot. Howl
s character is one that alternates between the main character, the hero, soulless character, and the
hopeless protagonist. He takes on a devilish form and is perceived as evil incarnate, but at the same
time, Miyazaki maintains howl s character as one who is a victim of his own mistakes. Another
character, the young boy, disguises himself as an old healer. Although he is just a boy, he takes on the
role of a guardian of the castle, a wizard apprentice, and even a healer. The witch of the waste is at
first given the role of a villain but moves on to take on that of an old crippled woman. She is portrayed
as a heartless witch whose greed led her a path of darkness, but as her character develops, she too was
a revealed to be a warm, amicable old woman. This is one way Miyazaki keeps the movie interesting
and unpredictable with remarkable character development. The character development through out the
story helps create an unpredictable movie and an amazing piece of

Private Property In John Locke s Social Contract
In his social contract, Locke also specified the purpose of a legitimate government and clarified how a
legitimate government can exercise authority. Aside from providing security and addressing
inconveniences found in the state of nature, Locke argued that the purpose of government is to protect
people s private property. Property is a profound component of Locke s social contract as it is tangible
and gives people more autonomy over their lives. According to
Locke, property becomes private once man adds his labor to public property. As the man improved the
public property in some manner, he can officially lay his claim to it. Owning property allows people to

How Did Justinian Influence Architecture
Justinian Justinian I was a ruler in the Byzantine Empire from 527 to 565 CE. When he first came into
power Justinian I was not favored by the overall population. Procopius, a scholar and historian in the
6th century, described Justinian as a man both an evil doer and easily led into evil, the sort of a person
whom they call a moral pervert, never of his own accord speaking the truth to those with whom he
conversed, but having a deceitful and crafty intent behind every word and action. Also the Nika Riots
were revolts against Justinian s rule that took place in Constantinople over the span of a week. This
resulted in the death of thirty thousand people. But despite the early animosity towards Justinian s
reign it is clear that Justinian brought prosperity to the Byzantine Empire during and after his rule.

The Importance of Latin in the Curriculum Essay examples
The Importance of Latin in the Curriculum
My memories of Latin in high school are less than fond. I remember slouching in my chair, staring
blankly at my desk as I tried to remember the form of the word agricola (farmer) in the ablative plural.
Much of the class consisted of mundane activities like this. We translated endless Bible passages from
Latin, translated what seemed like the entire body of Greek mythological literature, and read hundreds
of lines from The Aneid, The Odyssey, and The Iliad. I signed up for Latin because I was considering
going into medicine, and I had heard that doctors need to know Latin. As high school progressed,
though, a medical career seemed less and less likely so it appeared I had no real use ... Show more

Until the Reformation, church services were conducted using only Latin. One of the key principles of
the Protestant movement was that the entire Christian message, Scripture included, should be made
accessible to the common folk in their own tongue (Hammond 243 4). The Catholic Church also
began to use the vernacular for its homilies during the Counter Reformation for similar reasons (Smith
32).
The switch from Latin to the common tongues did not occur overnight, though. In fact, the Catholic
Church mandated that Mass be spoken only in Latin until the bishops of the second Vatican Council
voted to make the switch in 1962 (Waquet 47). For hundreds of years it remained a key part of the
education from middle school to college of those students that were fortunate enough to get one. Latin
was taught so that students could read ancient religious, philosophical, and dramatic texts in their
original language (Smith 27). By reading these texts in their original tongue, students would gain the
key to the superior wisdom of the Ancient World and to the piety of the Christian Fathers (Smith 27
8). When these privileged students entered college before the decline of Latin, they entered a deeply
Latin world. Upon entering the building, they would see Collegium inscribed above the door, their
classrooms would be labeled sexta, quinta, quarta, and the teacher would lecture in Latin. In fact,
students were required to converse only in Latin during free

Cholera Outbreak Epidemic Of Cholera
Cholera
Cholera has re emerged as a major infectious disease in the recent past with a global increase in its
incidence. In 1994, cholera cases were notified from 94 countries the highest ever number of countries
in one year (WHO, 1995). Two disturbing aspects of global cholera picture in 1990s have been
dramatic and unexpected reappearance of epidemic cholera caused by V.cholerae 01 E1T or in Latin
America after 100 years absence from the region and unexpected appearance in 1992 in South India of
an epidemic strain of Vibrio cholera non 01, classified as V.cholerae 0139 Bengal. It indicates that
cases have increased in all the continents in the last few years; due to change in environments which
has created conducive atmosphere for the spread of cholera. Cholera is international notifiable disease
and its occurrence is regularly reported to WHO. Trade embargo or restrictions are imposed on
countries that report cholera. WHO had never documented any outbreak resulting from commodities
imported from cholera endemic areas. Cholera outbreak in Haiti reported 60240 cases and 1415 deaths

The Greatest Leader Of History
Adolf Hitler has been looked upon as a Genius, the most evil being to ever walk the Earth, and as the
Greatest Leader in History. He was born in Braunau am Inn, Austria Hungary on the twentieth of April
in 1889 and lived for fifty six years. He accomplished what unimaginable feats before he committed
suicide on the eve of defeat by the Red Army two days after his marriage to Eva Braun on the thirtieth
of April in 1945. His rise to power began with the Brüning administration after years of politics before
he was appointed as Chancellor and eventually elected to power before he created the most
memorable time in modern history; The Holocaust. During his earlier years, particularly those of
1919, he was made an intelligence agent and assigned to gather said information from the German
Workers Party. During this process, he ended up getting recruited into the party as member 555. He
was lulled by Anton Drexler s social views in which he had a particular agreeance to. It was in this
part that he met Dietrich Eckart, who became Hitler s Mentor in the Thule Society. Sometime after,
the German Workers Party changed their name to the National Socialist German Workers Party to
make themselves sound more appealing to the masses. It was at this time that Hitler created the well
known swastika banner associated with this party. No more than five months after becoming a party
member, gave a famous speech against the Treaty of Versailles, Jews, and Marxists in February of
1920. It was

Divine Law And Ismene By SophoclesAntigone
Daniel Lavitman
Mrs. Sicotte
English II
21 November 2017 Antigone Test
Sophocles Antigone sheds light on some questions some of these include, as question one says, human
laws versus divine laws, and loyalty to the family versus loyalty to the state. Sophocles writes about
how one should always follow divine laws. He does this through the character of Antigone, one of
Oedipus children. Antigone says that she must act as per the religious law, the law of higher God.
Ismene, her sister and another child of Oedipus declares that she cannot go against the law of the
citizens. Antigone, knowing full well the consequences of defying Creon, acts on her principles as she
realizes that law of God demands the burial of a dead body, her ... Show more content on

By corruption few men thrive, and many come to mischief (Sophocles 12). The sentinel responds to
this with the accusation that Creon is too blinded to realize that it was not him, Plague on it! Tis hard,
a man should be suspicious, And with a false suspicion! (Sophocles 13). However, in the play he does
make some good decisions, he is seen as an effective leader where he believes in order and laws and
punishment for breaking those laws. He mostly believes in his laws having more authority than the
God s laws and talks about how anarchy is the true downforce of a nation.
In question six it is asked if Antigone or Creon is the tragic hero. In the play of Antigone, Creon is the
tragic hero. Sophocles at first portrays Creon as a just leader. He has good, rational reasons for his
laws and punishments. By the end of the play Creon s hubris, has taken over him, which leads to his
demise. He does not realize how bad his hubris has interfered with his dealing of problems until
Teiresias s prophecy, Therefore the Gods accept not of us now Solemn peace offering or burnt
sacrifice, Nor bird trills out a happy boding note, Gorged with the fatness of a slain man s blood
(Sophocles 38). By then it is too late. This is the path of a tragic character. Creon s pride and hubris
got the better of himself when he thought himself higher than the Gods. Creon finally realizes that
things will not turn out

Use of Force Continuum Essay
A use of force continuum is a standard that affords law enforcement officials security officers (police,
probation, or corrections) with guidelines as to how much use of force may be used against a repelling
subject in a given situation. In certain ways it is similar to the military s escalation of force. The
reason of these models is to clarify, both for officers and citizens, the complex subject of use of force
by law officers. They are often vital parts of law enforcement agencies use of force policies. Although
various agencies have developed different models of the continuum, there is no universal standard
model (Stetser, 2001, p. 36)
The initial examples of use of force continuum were developed in the 1980s and early ... Show more

Hard controls includes the use of tools such as hand cuffs, while soft controls compares to empty hand
techniques, describing techniques where the officer must engage a resisting detainee. When escalating,
intended submission to cuffs is a feasible way to prevent the need for empty hand submission
techniques which place the officer and the detainee at physical risk. When decreasing, hard controls
(i.e.: cuffs and isolation in the rear seat of a cruiser) gives officers a reasonable and achievable goal
after a dispute with a detainee during which higher levels of force may have been mandatory.
1. Physical Presence: Depending on the entirety of the conditions, a call/situation may require
additional officers or an on scene officer may request assistance in order to gain better control of the
situation and gain more safety for themselves. Depending on the circumstances of the situation: for
example, depending how many people are on scene with the officer determines if a larger presence is
required. However, if ten officers arrive at a scene with only a single suspect, the suspect may
perceive he is under arrest; as a large police presence can constitute an arrest based on the suspect s
perceptions.
2. Verbal Commands: Stop! ; Put the gun down! ; Please calm down.
3. Soft Control: Empty hand combat technique or PPCT (Pressure Point Control Techniques)
4. Hard Control: Intermediate Weapons (i.e.: baton , Taser, OC Spray, etc.)
5. Deadly Force. That force

Debate On Morality With And Without God
M. SURBER
BCOR
STEP II: PAPER OUTLINE
Topic of debate: Morality with/without God
I. Introduction:
a. Throughout my life I have been involved in a dynamic battle that always comes back to one
question: Is there such a thing as God ? I have been raised up in a pretty much non practicing
Christian home. Growing up in this type of lifestyle I have encountered a multitude of different belief
systems that were either Secular or Christian like. But with this debate of if God is real or not, I have
come across the issue of how to walk out my life with the time that I have. This paper will go through
the debate of the topic of morality in secular mindsets, and Christian mindsets. I hope to help you, my
reader, understand the questions: Does morality require God, or is it possible to be a moral atheist? If
not, then where does morality s basis come from in a secular world? And how do Christians and
Secularist think similarly and differently on the topics of morality.
b. Talk about the debate between morality in Christian thought and secular:
i. Is morality good centrally because it is good, or is morality good because it is an attribute of God?
II. THESIS:
a. Christians and secularist have different points of view when it comes down to belief in God,
however all of mankind has morality written into our DNA. This can be seen in secularist through
understanding the secular mindset through modernism and its evolution of reason out of Darwin s
theories. This also can be seen

The Best Candidate For The Pizza Hut
I truly believe that I am the best candidate for the Pizza Hut All American Opportunity. After reading,
the flyer that was posted in my classroom, I was strong intrigued by possibility of forming my
competiveness of sports with Pizza Hut. The reason why I feel in love with Pizza Hut was because of
the amazing crust I pick on my pizza. Any pizza company can make a pizza decent, but Pizza Hut
takes time in the crust of amazingness. Personally, I am a fan of the pretzel crust pizza with the meat
lover toppings. Nothing screams more amazing than that. The pizza starts nice and meaty to end salty
to wash down with an ice cold Sprite is the way I would love my last meal to before I pass on this
earth. My history with the NCAA runs deep in my blood. My first real NCAA experience of being at
the NCAA Basketball Championship with Duke vs an amazing unknown Butler team made me into
the fanatic I am today. Ever since then, I have been to many games around the nation, but currently I
live in Vermillion, SD where my favorite team the USD Coyotes take on battles everything week. My
previous game I attended was the game USD Women s Volleyball team take on the Bison of North
Dakota. It was a game that I believe we should have won, but injuries have hurt this team from the
true potential. The NCAA has lots of tournaments every year, from the likes of Division One to NAIA.
Each championship is worth the same value for each student athlete. Personally, the level of which the

Symptoms And Symptoms Of Migraines
Migraines are debilitating conditions that impinge on the lives of between 12 and 24 million
Americans, and remain grossly under diagnosed. World Health Organization has ranked migraine in
2010 Global Burden Survey as 3rd most prevalent disorder and the 7th highest cause of disability
worldwide (Singh 255). Individuals suffering from migraines typically cannot participate in normal
daily activities such as school, work, or social occasions due to pain. With an onset of a migraine,
people often retreat to a quiet and dark room until the migraine subsides. Individuals experiencing
numerous and frequent migraines are often confined to these spaces. This correlates to people
developing other illness such as depression and anxiety. They are ... Show more content on

Migraines are linked to heredity.
Anatomically speaking, what is taking place during a migraine? A common headache is caused by the
cranial blood vessels narrowing, while migraine pain is due to the expansion of those blood vessels.
During a migraine, the tissue surrounding the brain is swollen, causing intense pain. Migraines are
caused by a progression of several things: pain sensing cells in your brain stem pick up on this change
in your routine and release a chemical; this chemical attacks other pain sensing cells nearby, making
them more sensitive to pain. They also release neuropeptides; some of these chemicals begin to work
on the muscles surrounding the blood vessels near the surface of your brain. Those muscles relax,
making the blood vessels dilate and causing more blood to flow. This is where doctors think the aura
in a classic migraine comes from. Some of the neuropeptide chemicals cause the cranial vessels to
begin leaking, making the tissue around the area swell. Research now shows that the combination of
these factors; increased sensitivity, swelling brain tissues and swelling of blood vessels, is the cause of
migraines (Pocock 2). For the people afflicted with this disease, it is essential to comprehend what is
anatomically and physiologically occurring during a migraine episode. There are four possible phases
to a migraine attack: prodrome, aura, headache, and postdrome. In the initial phase: prodrome, it is
often referred to as the

Negative Effects Of Feral Pigs
Feral pigs were introduced by the early European settlers in 1788. Pigs were used as domesticated
companions of the Europeans as they moved around Australia. After time, these animals escaped from
captivity and their population began to increase dramatically. Feral pigs have a huge negative impact
on the native vegetation, environment and agriculture. They have very destructive habits when feeding
and foraging. They can cause erosion of soil and fouling of watering points with their wallowing.
Feral pigs need satisfactory supplies of food, water and shelter for protection against extremes of
temperature. Feral pigs can be found in areas with these conditions including rainforests, paperbark
swamps, open flood plains, marsh areas, semi arid flood plains and dry woodlands.
They are a medium to large sized animal with a short stubby snout, sported by a short neck. The body
of a feral pig is rounded. They have small eyes, and large ears with points. Feral pigs are four legged
animals with four toes of each foot. Their tail is generally curled or straight covered with hair and they
are covered in fur and have very thick skin which helps to insulate their body temperature.
Feral pigs are omnivores, preferring succulent green vegetation, fruit, grain, and a wide variety of
animal meat including, frogs, reptiles, birds, small mammals; and carrion. They also feed on
underground plants such as root, bulbs, corms, and fungi. The vast diet of feral pigs can cause severe

There were thousands of dead bodies lying cold and...
There were thousands of dead bodies lying cold and lifeless on the ground. This wasn t how war was
supposed to be. All of the teachers had told their students what being in the military was like, and this
was not anything like they had described. The teachers had told them that if they were real men, they
would honor their country by joining the military. Some men would think How is it honoring my
country, if I know that I will die? Soon men would start to come back and tell classes what a real war
is like. How you were always afraid of what might happen next. Young men in these classrooms
would call those returning soldiers cowards. Those men had spent their whole lives believing that
militarism was the right thing for them to do. So ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Later that day the car driver made a wrong turn. Luckily for Princip, he was on the same street. He
was planning out his next move as he looked up and saw Archduke Ferdinand. As he pulled out his
gun, the driver tried to reverse but the gears got stuck. Princip was locked onto his target. He shot
multiple times. One bullet hit Ferdinand s wife in the stomach, killing the baby and herself. Another
bullet hit the Archduke and killed him as well. Princip was arrested by the Serbian military. Austria
Hungary issued a formal diplomatic representation of their view, which was known as the July
Ultimatum. This was used as pretext for Austria Hungary s invasion of Serbia. This then led to WW1.
Another cause of WW1 was the rise in Nationalism. Nationalism was a feeling that people had of
being loyal to and proud of their country. It is the pride in ones country. For example, in Germany
people wanted to be a real force in the world. People started to believe in their countries. When belief
overcame a person they would often go to other countries and kill men (like Archduke Ferdinand was
killed by Gavrilo Princip). When men would perform these actions, countries would get upset/mad
and want revenge. Most countries in Europe had allies so if you made one country mad, you weren t
just going to go to war with one country/military. There was a lot of murdering going around at the
time of WW1, so that meant that a vast majority of the countries in Europe were

The Naked Man of Steel by Angus Taylor Essay
THE NAKED MAN OF STEEL In 2006, Angus Taylor, a South African sculptor, created a giant
carbon steel statue of a naked black man (Froud, 2011). The artwork was named Positive (Fig 1). The
origin and meaning behind this name will be revealed further on in the essay. The statue caused varied
reactions in three different locations, namely on the campus of the University of Potchefstroom, in
front of a Strand apartment block and finally a farm in the middle of the Karoo. There were some
harsh reactions towards the artwork from sections of the White community and some of the Black
community. These reactions led to issues regarding the right to freedom of expression from the artist
and the public. Statues are generally erected and displayed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Woestyn had no concerns as to how it would affect the public, but he realised that the moment it was
erected, it caused a stir (Woestyn 2014). One of the complaints was the size of the artwork 2.6m high
and weighing in at 750kg (Peters, 2006). Some of the criticisms were: It is disgusting. If the owner
likes it so much he should put it in his lounge (Peters, 2006) Why must we Christians be subjected to
this? (Peters, 2006) This is a conservative town and by tomorrow it will probably have underpants or a
robe on it (Leppan, 2006) The latter comment proved to be an apt forecast, because a few days later it
had a nappy tied around its genitals (Peters, 2006). Taylor said, The groin was modelled to the
proportions of the David statue by Michelangelo which in proportion is relatively small (Taylor 2014).
This quote suggests acceptance by the viewers of the David statue, yet the viewers of Positive are
critical. After several complaints, Woestyn could no longer handle the protesting so he removed the
statue (Woestyn 2014). An anonymous blogger on Heldeberg news and Info blog said: No longer will
this statue torment our community, and innocent children will no longer be subjected to seeing the
private parts of this very vulgar statue! (Leppan, 2006). Hence the negative reaction led towards the
second removal of Positive . From this, one can deduce that many people are not comfortable with
nudity.

Two planes were hijacked and rammed into the twin towers. As soon as the first plane hit, news reporters began to broadcast the event on every news station throughout the country. In the next moment, a second plane crashed into the other building, and it was witnessed on live television. A frenzy of panic and uncertainty engulfed the American society and patriotism soared. • 6. Filippo Brunelleschi Accomplishments One of the world s most famous architects and engineers was born in the Italian city state of Florence sometime in 1377. Although he had a huge influence on building design and construction, and on art, we don t know a lot about Filippo Brunelleschi s early life. Nonetheless, he left buildings and artwork that still exist today, and he had two biographers who provided information about his work, from these we can learn a lot about this Renaissance genius. His most important work, the ll Duomo di Firenze (the Dome of the Florence Cathedral), was finished in 1436 and remains as one of the greatest symbols of the period. Before he started building this revolutionary structure, Brunelleschi studied the architecture of Roman buildings and monuments. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Filippo Brunelleschi invented new technology for the dome and created far more advanced technology to help the dome be built. He began studying the science of motion and particular weights, wheels, and gears and it lead him to invent some of the first alarm clocks, as well as some of the equipment to raise the bricks from the ground to the roof (King, 13). In addition, Brunelleschi also made sure that the dome was being built to his standard and it was going to last a long time. For example, he inspected every one of the four million bricks that he was going to use for the structure. Another important quality of the dome was the mortar used to hold the bricks together. It was made by mixing sand and water with quicklime (King, 93). The quality of the bricks and mortar was only the beginning. He worked out how to set the bricks for the greatest strength to support the weight of the dome by having them set in a criss crossing herringbone pattern (Mueller, 84). The brickwork was crucial because the bricks needed to make up the dome without any outside support. In order to do this Brunelleschi linked the bricks in a spiral going up to the top, called a herringbone pattern. The vertical bricks acted as book ends to keep the horizontal bricks in place. The ll Duomo di Firenze was built to be an eight sided dome that stood taller and stronger than others during that time period. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Ageism, Or Prejudice And Discrimination Associated With A... Ageism, or the prejudice and discrimination associated with a person s age, has become a widely researched topic among scholars over the last few decades. The deficit model of ageing characterizes old age as a pathological condition in which individuals undergo physical and mental decline (Allen, 2011). Growing old has developed into a major social problem in Western culture, and most individuals accept the stereotypes and stigma related to ageing. Companies, often phase out older employees by hiring young individuals who are perceived as being less of a risk, and more of an asset to the company. The exclusion of older individuals is especially prevalent in industries related to media and professional sports. Media, favors young individuals because they convey an image of beauty, vigour, and energy. Similarly, professional athletes are often forced to retire early, due to the recruitment process of professional sports teams. The objective of this study aims to uncover ageism in the dance community, because dance combines beauty and athleticism, two traits that are considered to decline with age. The study discusses age discrimination within the dance community through an exploration of previous research conducted on the topic, and a qualitative analysis of interviews conducted with three dancers via email. The dancers who participated in this study discuss their background as dancers, their age, and their perception of age as a dancer. The participants acknowledge that ... There are many versions about the introduction of the Dramitse Ngachham. Most historians say that the dance was first introduced by Khedrup Kuenga Gyeltshen in Ogyen Thechog Choling monastery. This man was said to be a brother of Ani Choten Zangmo who settled at Dramitse after naming the place. Khedup Kuenga, while undergoing a retreat had a vision of three beautiful women who had the heavenly form, dressed in silken clothes with precious gems. These three heavenly bodies guided him to the abode of Guru Rinpoche where he witnessed celestial heroes and heroines performing a dance. After this incident, Khedrup Kuenga introduced the dance according to the prophecy made by Guru in his vision. The nineteenth century versions of the Dramitse Ngacham say that dance was also introduced in other parts of Bhutan by the end of nineteenth century. Today, the dance has evolved from a local event, centered on a particular community into an art form, representing the identity of the Bhutanese nation as a whole. Property is a profound component of Locke s social contract as it is tangible and gives people more autonomy over their lives. When he first came into power Justinian I was not favored by the overall population. Procopius, a scholar and historian in the 6th century, described Justinian as a man both an evil doer and easily led into evil, the sort of a person whom they call a moral pervert, never of his own accord speaking the truth to those with whom he conversed, but having a deceitful and crafty intent behind every word and action. Also the Nika Riots were revolts against Justinian s rule that took place in Constantinople over the span of a week. This resulted in the death of thirty thousand people. I remember slouching in my chair, staring blankly at my desk as I tried to remember the form of the word agricola (farmer) in the ablative plural. Much of the class consisted of mundane activities like this. We translated endless Bible passages from Latin, translated what seemed like the entire body of Greek mythological literature, and read hundreds of lines from The Aneid, The Odyssey, and The Iliad. Until the Reformation, church services were conducted using only Latin. One of the key principles of the Protestant movement was that the entire Christian message, Scripture included, should be made accessible to the common folk in their own tongue (Hammond 243 4). The Catholic Church also began to use the vernacular for its homilies during the Counter Reformation for similar reasons (Smith 32). The switch from Latin to the common tongues did not occur overnight, though. In fact, the Catholic Church mandated that Mass be spoken only in Latin until the bishops of the second Vatican Council voted to make the switch in 1962 (Waquet 47). For hundreds of years it remained a key part of the education from middle school to college of those students that were fortunate enough to get one. Latin was taught so that students could read ancient religious, philosophical, and dramatic texts in their original language (Smith 27). By reading these texts in their original tongue, students would gain the key to the superior wisdom of the Ancient World and to the piety of the Christian Fathers (Smith 27 8). When these privileged students entered college before the decline of Latin, they entered a deeply Latin world. Divine Law And Ismene By SophoclesAntigone Daniel Lavitman Mrs. Sicotte English II 21 November 2017 Antigone Test Sophocles Antigone sheds light on some questions some of these include, as question one says, human laws versus divine laws, and loyalty to the family versus loyalty to the state. Sophocles writes about how one should always follow divine laws. He does this through the character of Antigone, one of Oedipus children. Antigone says that she must act as per the religious law, the law of higher God. Ismene, her sister and another child of Oedipus declares that she cannot go against the law of the citizens. He mostly believes in his laws having more authority than the God s laws and talks about how anarchy is the true downforce of a nation. In question six it is asked if Antigone or Creon is the tragic hero. In the play of Antigone, Creon is the tragic hero. Sophocles at first portrays Creon as a just leader. He has good, rational reasons for his laws and punishments. By the end of the play Creon s hubris, has taken over him, which leads to his demise. He does not realize how bad his hubris has interfered with his dealing of problems until Teiresias s prophecy, Therefore the Gods accept not of us now Solemn peace offering or burnt sacrifice, Nor bird trills out a happy boding note, Gorged with the fatness of a slain man s blood (Sophocles 38). They are often vital parts of law enforcement agencies use of force policies. Anatomically speaking, what is taking place during a migraine? A common headache is caused by the cranial blood vessels narrowing, while migraine pain is due to the expansion of those blood vessels. During a migraine, the tissue surrounding the brain is swollen, causing intense pain. Migraines are caused by a progression of several things: pain sensing cells in your brain stem pick up on this change in your routine and release a chemical; this chemical attacks other pain sensing cells nearby, making them more sensitive to pain. They also release neuropeptides; some of these chemicals begin to work on the muscles surrounding the blood vessels near the surface of your brain. Those muscles relax, making the blood vessels dilate and causing more blood to flow. This is where doctors think the aura in a classic migraine comes from. Some of the neuropeptide chemicals cause the cranial vessels to begin leaking, making the tissue around the area swell. Research now shows that the combination of these factors; increased sensitivity, swelling brain tissues and swelling of blood vessels, is the cause of migraines (Pocock 2). For the people afflicted with this disease, it is essential to comprehend what is anatomically and physiologically occurring during a migraine episode. There are four possible phases to a migraine attack: prodrome, aura, headache, and postdrome. In the initial phase: prodrome, it is often referred to as the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
