Stand by Me
Stand By Me is a movie based on a novel by Stephen King. It tells the story of four preteens, who
during a boring summer day, embark on a journey to find the body of a dead twelve year old, who has
been missing by news accounts, but known to them, to be lying in the woods near a river bank. The
story is told as an historical narrative about the lives and relationships of the four main characters in
this movie, Gordy, Chris, Teddy, and Vern. In this essay, I will discuss how communication, and self
concept, affects the characters, and their interactions. Gordy La Chance, who is the narrator of this
story, can best be described as an introvert. He is living in the shadow of his recently deceased brother,
and is having a difficult ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One example of this would be when the group is walking along a railroad bridge and we find Vern
crawling, instead of walking, due to his fear of heights. Another example would be when the boys are
considering cutting through the woods to find the body, and he stays behind, trying to reason with the
group to follow the safe path along the railroad tracks, but in order to fit in, he reluctantly follows. His
presenting self is assured and agreeable. Inwardly, or his perceived self, is actually worried,
vulnerable, and gullible. Throughout this movie, we learn how relationships are formed and
maintained, and how our perceived self, and presenting self can be very different. The boys
continually use identity management to jockey for position in the group, however each one knows
where they actually belong. It is only when they encounter a difficult situation, that they show their
true emotions and feelings. They do stick up for each other, and show true concern and caring when
the need arises, however, in the presenting face, they play it much more cool, and even somewhat
unconcerned for each other s feelings. In the end, the relationship between the four dwindles, and only
Gordy and Chris remained friends. Gordy helped Chris to overcome his self fulfilling prophecy by
encouraging him to attend college, and become a lawyer. Chris, in return became a significant force in

Taking a Look at the HDFS File System
Introduction Hadoop distributed file system is a highly scalable file system. It is specially designed for
applications with large data sets. HDFS supports parallel reading and processing of data. It is
significantly different from other distributed file systems. Typically HDFS is designed for streaming
large files. HDFS is specially designed to run commodity hardware and deployed into low cost
hardware. It has large throughput instead of low latency. HDFS typically uses read one write many
pattern. It is highly fault tolerant and easy to manage. The main feature of HDFS is built in
redundancy it typically keeps multiple replicas in the system. In HDFS cluster manages addition and
removal of nodes automatically. Here an operator can operate upto 3,000 nodes at a time. In the HDFS
key areas of POSIX semantics have been traded to increase data throughput rate. Working of HDFS
Hardware In HDFS hardware failure is a norm. Hardware failure is very common in HDFS. In any
instance there is thousands of working server machines. There is huge number of components in
HDFS. And each component has significant probability of failure. So there will always be some
component which will be not working in HDFS system. Data in HDFS Applications in HDFS will
require streaming access to data sets. Batch processing is done rather than interactive use by the users.
HDFS is specially designed to operate large data sets. In any single instance it supports millions of
files. Model of HDFS

A Comparison Of Greek And Norse Mythology
Greek and Norse mythologies both use different methods to enlighten readers on ordinary matters.
Each of the myths has it s own original way of explaining concepts, such as the creation of life and
mankind. In the Greek myth, Earth was created after the birth of Love and Light. It states, in the Greek
myth, From darkness and from death Love was born, ... Love created Light ... What took place next
was the creation of the earth. (Hamilton 77) The Greek myth creates more of a pleasurable and
aesthetic feel to the creation of Earth. Whereas, in the Norse myth, they explicate in greater detail the
process. For example, it explains how after Odin, the sky king, killed Ymir he made the earth and the
sky from him, the sea from his blood, the earth

Balzac and the Chinese Seamstress
Balzac and The Little Chinese Seamstress What is the ironic result in his success in making the Little
Seamstress more Sophisticated? What does this suggest about attempting to change others to ones
beliefs or desires? Communism came to power in China in the year 1949 and was dictated by Mao
Zedong, who later ordered for all educated men and women of China to be reeducated in the
countryside. Lou and the narrator were just two of many thousands to be sent off to be reeducated.
Lou and the narrator then meet the Little Chinese Seamstress, and Lou, as well as the narrator to an
extend fall in love with her. The result of Lou s actions to re educate the Little Seamstress to be more
sophisticated and cultured, may be viewed by many ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Also the Red Beaked Ravens shows how that communism is a constant part of there lives. When the
Little Seamstress leaves for the city, the Red Beaked Ravens fly away, this shows how she no longer
abides by the laws of Communism, and it s restraints on her life. This gives the reader an
understanding of the constant supervision received by the people while living under the communist
law. Throughout the novel it is proven again and again that you can t change people to how you want
them to be, people are always going to be different and individual to an extend. This is the main
reason why communism has difficult working. Lou found out this fact all too late, as he realized that
the ideas that he had given the Little Seamstress, had driven her away. Although Lou did mange to
achieve his goals but the result was meaningless, as the Little Seamstress wanted more than Lou could
ever provide in the small village on Phoenix Mountain. This regret is shown by Lou when he falls on
the grass next to the narrator, who described him as pale and complaint, and his confusion and
frustration is clearly stated in when Lou says she wants to go to the city on. From that point on Lou is
quite unsure what to do, his life seems to lose meaning. As he come to terms with his loss In
conclusion the ironic result achieved by Lou is that through his selfish views, and little consideration
to The Little Seamstress, he lost her by opening her eyes to the world of individualism

The Impact of Contemporary Urban Planning Principles and...
Since the 1950s, the cities of Saudi Arabia witnessed significant changes in the composition of the
population and the arrangement of the built environment. The Saudi society has transformed from a
nomadic pastoral society to a highly modernized one as a result of the increase in national revenues
from oil production. Rapid growth and improved economic conditions led to the adoption of modern
planning principles which are in contrary to the traditional city. Although modernization had
contributed to raising the living standard of the neighbourhood, it led to the creation of social, cultural
and climate problems as well. This essay will shed light on the impact of the contemporary urban

it is located in the centre of the Arabian peninsula (Figure 1). The modern history of Saudi Arabia
began in 1939 when King Abdul Aziz Al Saud united the parties of the peninsula under a single
authority and then declared the emergence of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Before 1939, Riyadh
lived a state of poverty, starvation, lack of resources and the most important of all, lack of security.
The region began a new phase after the unification of the Kingdom and the spread of security. Walls of
the city lost its importance. A number of neighbourhoods were established outside the city walls, with
wide and straight streets in response to the arrival of the car has become the means of transport. The
planning aspects of the new neighbourhoods do not differ from the built environment within the
walled city, the semi private spaces and the courtyard houses are part of the neighbourhoods
characteristics (Eben Saleh, 2002). Riyadh had witnessed a considerable increase in population due to
immigrants from the surrounding areas (Figure 2). Significant changes in the city of Riyadh occurred
when the government established AlMalaz project according to Western planning principles in 1953.
Later, the government emphasized the orientation of the Western system by adopting Doxiadis s

Three Is Not Enough Sharon Begley
In Sharon Begley s article, Three is not enough, the author focuses her argument on the fact that race
should not be defined by his or her body components, such as DNA, hair, eye, or skin color. In other
words, race should be justified by their social interactions with others and build upon one s behaviors
and actions. That is to say, one s skin color, physical appearance do not define who he or she is, nor
does it impose a stereo type of that a certain group of people. The word race is often misunderstood,
many believe that race is used to label one group of people, and make assumptions about a certain
group of people. However, this is wrong according to Sharon Begley, author of Three Is Not Enough .

The United States And The Sharing Economy
The United States has serious labor market challenges as a result of rising wage inequality between
people and the slow middle class wage growth. The need to provide individuals with variety of goods,
service and information raise specific economic phenomena called sharing economy . This model of
economy includes different types of industry categories: sharing information (YouTube), property
(Airbnb), transportation (Uber) and more. The sharing economy works in the same way as a
traditional market, where individuals exchange different goods and service. The central concept of
sharing economy (collaborative consumption) is the access to the goods. The application of regulation
is the major issue with this type of innovated economy. The sharing economy is a nontraditional,
because the workers luck of benefits and the type of economical market system that creates an income
and job opportunity. On the other hand this type of market provides a different type of benefits as:
flexible schedule and employment; saving energy and less waste; self regulation; lower costs of the
product. The context is of a great interest since participation in sharing communities and services is
characterized by obligation to do good for other people and for the environment, such as sharing, and
engaging in sustainable behavior (Prothero et al, 2011). The challenge of any market includes and
market of sharing economy is to ensure the supply and demand. Specifically for the sharing market is

Influence Of English In The Japanese Language
2. English in the Japanese language
2.1. Adaption and Integration: Influence of English on Japanese Language Use
It has been many years since English was first introduced to Japanese society. In the progress of the
19th, 20th and 21st century, the English language was a continuous but varying influence on the
Japanese language and its culture. The result of this centuries long process is a Japanese language that
contains more than its fair share of English loanwords.
Although most Japanese people, even those of older age, are familiar with a lot of English loanwords,
this does not necessarily mean they are familiar with English. In my personal experience, I witnessed
a Japanese woman struggling to find the English word for elevator , despite ... Show more content on

These words, which are taken from English and used functionally in Japanese conversation primarily
by native speakers, often have an already existing, possible common Japanese equivalent. Therefore,
these loanwords could be considered redundant and quite double to an outsider. However, in certain
situations, the English word is greatly preferred, whereas the Japanese word would stand out strangely,
for reasons which will be thoroughly discussed in this section. These English loanwords in Japanese
language have been dubbed double loanwords , for the sake of creating an understandable and clear
term, specifically for this paper.
Notably, there are two domains where these double loanwords appear in Japanese speech; fashion and
food. These domains are not coincidental, as both have been heavily influenced by foreign culture.
Japanese fashion and Japanese Western style cuisine, or youshoku 洋食, are inspired largely by their
French, English and American equivalents. Although these Japanese styles do originate in Western
influence, they have been made their own by the Japanese fashion industry and the Japanese

Homemade Spaghetti Sauce Is Cheaper From Scratch Or From A...
As a frugal cook, I often make things from scratch rather than buying a mix or packaged food item.
This works well in many cases, but in others, it s actually cheaper to buy the pre packaged item.
Recently, I decided to look at whether spaghetti sauce is cheaper from scratch or from a can. Canned
vs. Homemade Spaghetti Sauce: Price Looking at price alone, it s actually an easy call. At Winco
Foods, I bought 26.5 ounce can of Del Monte Mushroom Spaghetti Sauce for 78 cents. At most stores,
in fact, I can find canned spaghetti sauce for one dollar or less per can. For comparison purposes, I
also purchased one 14 ounce can and one 8 ounce can of tomato sauce, and one four ounce can of
mushrooms (stems and pieces). This came to over a dollar and that doesn t even include the onions,
herbs and spices that I already had at home. In terms of price alone, the canned spaghetti sauce is
obviously the better buy. But for me, there s more to it than that. Canned vs. Homemade Spaghetti
Sauce: Taste and appearance Do my family and I actually prefer the canned sauce or the homemade
sauce? Based on taste and appearance, I would favor the homemade sauce. The canned sauce is overly
sweet, and the mushrooms in the mushroom sauce are nearly invisible they must be finely minced
(probably leftover bits from something else). Homemade sauce has tasty chunks and pieces of
mushrooms, and I control the herbs and spices, adjusting them to my family s taste. Canned vs.

Evaluation Of A Exercise Based Interventions
Inter individual variability in the direction and magnitude of weight change in response to supervised
exercise based interventions has been well documented (Table 1). Even in the highly controlled
environment of an isolated experimental station over an 84 day period exercise induced weight loss
ranged between 3 and 12 kg [48]. More recent studies showed that certain participants even gain
weight in response to supervised exercise interventions [42,49]. Accordingly, changes in fat mass and
fat free mass have been shown to vary considerably [36,42]. King et al. showed a roughly 50:50 split
between so called responders (i.e. participants who achieve expected weight loss) and non responders
(i.e. participants who experience a small amount of weight loss or weight gain) [36]. Other studies
indicate that a majority of participants displays some form of compensatory adaptation with a ratio of
responders to non responders of 1:2 [46,49]. Even though there is, most likely, considerable inter
individual variability in metabolic adaptations in response to exercise [42,48], success in weight loss
interventions has been largely attributed to behavioral compensation such as a decline in non exercise
PA and/or an increase in energy intake [22,36,46]; in addition to an obvious association with
adherence to the exercise protocol. In fact, it has been argued that the individual variability in weight
loss can be entirely attributed to the variability in non exercise PA [46,50].

Walker Ltd
Objectives:
1. To illustrate the importance of the assumptions embedded in a profit plan
2. To familiarise students with various sources of business information
3. To learn how to use a profit plan to test key business decisions
Case Synopsis
The case portrays a series of profit planning decisions in a family owned publishing company. The
case is written by and about the same individual, Ramsey Walker, a young, recent business school
graduate. The case begins with a quick overview of Walker amp; Company s (Walker) history.
Case Theory and Background
Companies use profit plans for several reasons:
1.To translate the strategy of the business into a detailed plan to create value. This helps managers
quantify trade offs and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This creates power imbalances potentially unfavourable to small companies such as Walker, with large
publishers able to compete on price, and large retailers able to negotiate better terms. The price wars
are forcing all publishers to spend more on advertising and to market books in more creative ways
such as discounting to schools. Other industry trends that increase financial volatility include the hit
driven nature of the business and the uncertain impact of technology, both as a product (multimedia)
and as a distribution channel (Amazon.com).
Walkers Competitive Position
Given the favourable (if not dramatic) trends for the children s book market, the cutthroat competitive
situation, and Walker s firm specific resources and capabilities, most students recommended that
Walker focus on becoming a niche player in the children s market. Children s books are currently
Walker s largest source of revenue (40%) and grew by 12.5% (excluding the backlist) between 1995
and 1997, indicating a solid experience base. Given Walker s size, it will be unable to compete on
price. Furthermore, the company does not have the resources to enter more profitable segments such
as professional (e.g. Legal) books, which require both large upfront costs (e g. $0 million over 5 years
for an education title) and large ongoing marketing spending (25% of sales).

Criminal Law and The War on Drugs
These records of wars, intrigues, factions, and revolutions, are so many collections of experiments, by
which the politician or moral philosopher fixes the principles of his science, in the same manner as the
physician or natural philosopher becomes acquainted with the nature of plants, minerals, and other
external objects, by the experiments which he forms concerning them. (David Hume.)2
Our long armed and hairy ancestors had no idea of redress beyond vengeance, or of justice beyond

And further, it cannot be neither a static catalogue of offences nor order of sanctions. The evolving
and transforming types and patterns of social and economic activities are constantly calling for new
penal controls and limitations and that new modes of enforcement and punishment adapted to the
changing conditions are not to be taken as being equally within the ambit of parliamentary power is, in
my opinion, not seriously arguable. 9
In the relatively recent case of RJR Macdonald v. Canada (1995), the Supreme Court of Canada, it
was determined that the exercise of the power to make an act a criminal one, a test is to be applied;
one of substance, not form. 10 To be fully fledged criminal law, the act prohibited must pose a

And, so, how does this established judicial view apply to the business of keeping in check those

Henry Ford Started the Car Revolution
Henry Ford Who is the person that started the car revolution? Who is the person that introduced us to
the world of automobiles? The answer is Henry Ford. Henry Ford was a successful man that created
the Ford automobile. Henry Ford s company is still making great profit in business. Henry Ford
wanted to stop World War II by creating tanks, jeeps, and other armed forces but it still didn t work.
Still, Ford s automobiles were affordable and he became a very rich and a well known man. Henry has
achieved the creation of the V8 engine and was able to build the model T in 24 seconds with the
assembly line that he introduced. Because of the assembly line, there were people that called him
Liner. These are only two of the many achievements that Henry Ford had. Henry Ford s life was an
unexpected journey for both the people and him. Many events occurred to him that changed his life
such as becoming very wealthy. It was hard for Ford to start from the beginning. Henry Ford s early
life was a life that wasn t expected from a noble man such as him. Henry Ford was born on a farm in
Greenfield Township, Michigan, in July 30, 1863 and died in Fair Lane, Michigan in April 7, 1947.
Henry Ford s father was William Ford, who married Mary Ford. Henry Ford s father gave him a

Mein Kampf And The Formation Of Hitlers Ideas Essay
Mein Kampf And The Formation Of Hitlers Ideas
The dominant political figure of German history in the twentieth century, Adolf Hitler, was born in a
lower middle class family in the provincial Austrian town of Braunau am Inn on 20 April 1889. In
1907 Hitler applied to enter the Vienna Academy of Art but his application was rejected. After the
death of his mother Klara, Hitler decided to move to Vienna. He drifted from job to job, often selling
sketches or painting scenes of Old Vienna and it was a period that he himself later called the most
miserable period of his life. Many of Hitler s views of the world were shaped by his experiences on
the streets of Vienna and it is probable that his violent anti Semitism dates from this time. ... Show

A central theme of Hitler s thinking was the concept of struggle. In the nineteenth century the
naturalist Charles Darwin had explained how in the world of nature when the environment changed
some of the species with favourable variations survived better that others. Darwin called this natural
selection .
Social Darwinism was a concept that emerged later in the nineteenth century suggesting that what
applied to nature could also apply to human society that the strong prevail over the weak, that superior
races prevail over inferior races. This concept with its theme of struggle and survival of the fittest
appealed to Hitler. Struggle wrote Hitler is the father of all things...He who wants to live must fight
and who does not want to fight in this world where external struggle is the law of life has no right to
exist *.
In Mein Kamph Hitler offered some insight into his thinking on exercise of power and in particular the
important role of propaganda, his contempt of parliamentary democracy and the Weimar Republic.
Hitler also wrote of the need for a national revival and the quest for living space. Hitler linked his
hatred of communism with his hatred of Jews. In Hitler s mind Russia was the centre

The Human Psyche Has Molded Modern Film Today Essay
Connections:
How Carl Jung s study of the human psyche has molded modern film today?
Carl Jung, throughout film in both our modern age today and film that dates back to the 1900 s we see
glimpses and flashes of Jung s study. However to the simple viewer, or should I say the average
viewer these glimpses of Jung s study are easily missed or mistaken for nothing more than a good idea
or just another schizophrenic movie. Therefore for my connections piece I have chosen to have a
closer look and analyse several films through the eyes of Carl Jung; specifically looking at his theory
of the Jungian Archetypes and how these are each represented in film. The four films that I will be
critically analysing are Black Swan directed by Darren Aronofsky 2010, Fight Club directed by David
Fincher 1999, The Double directed by Richard Ayoade 2013 and The Machinist directed by Brad
Anderson 2004. One thing that all these films have in common is their direct correlation with the
Jungian Archetypes, where we see the shadow and persona struggle in a battle for transcendence; to
achieve self enlightenment or self happiness. Carl Jung was born on July 26, 1875; it was not known
then, but this young child was destined to become arguably the greatest psychologist to date, and his
theories were going to change the world as they knew it. Carl Jung had come up with the idea of
Jungian archetypes, this is where he theorised that we all are comprised of three different people
within ourselves. These

1.1 Prions
Prions are an incongruous pathogen that is causative of transmissible spongiform encephalopathies
(TSE); a group of fatal neurodegenerative diseases found in mammals. This abnormal proteinaceous
particle is believed to be a post translational mutation of a normal cellular protein found in the brain
(Emmanuel, 2002). This naturally occurring pathogen acts similarly to a viral infection, however as it
lacks nucleic acid it is invulnerable to death via means of antibiotics or sterilisation. PrPc and PrPsc,
the known prion proteins indicative of TSE s, are known to bind to the surface of neurons and fold
these proteins into an abstract spongiform structure. Although the process inducing this folding
mechanism is unknown, it is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As no detection program existed, these waste products were often scrapie infested. It is believed that
the rendering process that existed at the time allowed the prion agent to survive, mutate and overcome
the species barrier to infect cattle (NCBA, 2017).
1.4 Symptoms and Detection
Clinical signs generally appear in cattle that are more than 30 months old. Incubation tends to last 4 to
6 years before finally killing the host. This extended lifespan is due to the spine and brain being
targeted late in the incubation period (NCBA, 2017). Currently no TSE detection test exists for live
animals; official diagnosis can only be made through an examination of brain tissue. Studies have
detected BSE most commonly in the brain, optic nerve and spinal cord. As such, diagnosis must be
made through observation of behavior.
Common symptoms include; deranged temperament, unusual posture, lack of coordination, muscle
tremors, decreased milk production and decreased body mass despite maintained appetite (National

Role Models Influence Us As Humans
Role models influence us as humans. We use our parents, community leaders, and even celebrities to
shape ourselves in a similar way to them. Media, like a role model, influences society. Also, media,
which society creates, is also the tool that shapes and moulds it. The theory that media (technology)
shapes society technological determinism is introduced by Canadian scholars Harold Innis and
Marshall. Though this is a technologically determinist way of looking at communication, the different
modes of communication (media) oral, literate, and electronic influence society through the way we
store knowledge, through the manner in which we share knowledge, and through the way we connect
with each other socially.
First, the oral mode of communication influenced society through the way we store knowledge. In an
oral society, particular members of society store important knowledge. For instance, in First Nations
communities in Canada the Elders store their history and tradition and share it with the future
generations. In the book Aboriginal Perspectives, the Kainai Board of Education, who educates the
Nitsitapi tribal members in Alberta, states that past generations depend upon Elders to pass along their
stories, and future generations depend on the young to learn and remember the Elder s knowledge
(KBE 50). This society depends heavily on its members to survive. As a result, separating the
members of this society can result in the loss of vital knowledge for example,

The Characters Of Hawkeye And Uncas In The Last Of The...
This paper will be highlighting the characters of Hawkeye and Uncas from The Last of the Mohicans,
by James Fenimore Cooper. Showing how these two characters were changed by the war they became
a part of. Some of the growth in these men might be subtle, but there are definite changes you see by
the end of the story. In the beginning of the novel, Uncas is extremely reticent, and prefers to let his
actions speak for themselves. However, he has a strong moral compass and does not often stray from
the path that will help his companions, no matter the circumstances. Being one of the last two
Mohican Chiefs, he fights with valor against the Mingos and French, and is strongly devoted to his
father, Chingachgook and his companion Hawkeye. Uncas is an expert at hunting and tracking, and
these skills come in very handy when his love interest, Cora, and her sister Alice are taken captive by
Magua, a rival Indian who wants revenge. Uncas being enamored with Cora is one of the romantic
aspects in the novel, and one that, at the time, was quite controversial. Being that interracial marriages
were not common, and in some places was not allowed. Uncas role in early stages of their adventure
was to see to Cora and Alice. He attended their needs without complaint, and this shows the
compassionate side that until this point, was not seen in him. By the end of the novel, Uncas had a
major shift in how he was perceived and how he viewed himself. When it was revealed

The Morality Of Inertia Summary
The Morality of Inertia by Lionel Trilling is about how Ethan Frome refuses to take action for what he
wants due to moral issues. Trilling talks about how miserable is Frome s life. He has this desire to
share his life with Mattie, but at the same time he can t leave his marriage with Zeena. Trilling talks
about how literature doesn t get along with inertia, and how Wharton creates a story where the main
character is experiencing life in death. Throughout the whole story, Frome is always thinking about
leaving Zeena to be able to have a future life with Mattie, but he loses momentum all the time. At the
end, he does take action and leaves with Mattie, but not for so long or too far because they both ended
up living with Zeena anyways.

The Hard Facts Of The Grimms Fairy Tales
The four themes that Maria Tatar argues in her book The Hard Facts of the Grimms Fairy Tales are 1.
Rise of national identity and culture 2.Dissolution 3. Political and religious refugees and 4. Change in
technology. With all four of these being relevant to the time, it sets up the importance of the remake of
the fairy tale. We have to look critically at where we are and where we are going because of our pop
culture and politics.
While some may argue that fairy tales have become less important to society as we are advancing in
technology there are some that still strike important meaning to this day. Fairy tales in this day have
often become associated with 1) Disney and 2) princess culture. And while there is nothing wrong
with these, in fact I am a huge fan of both of them myself, as a result many other fairy tales have been
pushed into the background. One such fairy tale is The Emperor s New Clothes, originally written
down by Hans Christian Andersen in 1837. This tale is able to examine how social media is changing
our interactions as well as talk about the political climate in which we now live in. This then makes it
the perfect candidate for a modern remake movie. The american public is the becoming the emperor as
we lose sight of what s really import by social media consumption, while the current political climate
is the people who are promising to make us robes. (target is millenials and gen z, they need to identify

Discretion In Policing
State and territory police play a pivotal role in protecting community safety and protection. Policing
was a combination of national economic interests, domestic and international security, and represented
in time by distinctive organizations (Chapman, 1970; Emsley, 1994). They have responsibility for
peace preservation, and crime prevention as well as upholding the laws, providing assistance in
personal emergencies, and coordinating and managing emergency incidents. Since the police can
employ the discretionary powers, which is a flexible way to dispose of social problems, in a manner
that either directs offenders to or diverts them away from, further penetration into the justice system,
they are seen as the gatekeepers of the criminal justice system, model authority, and law abiding
enforcement (Rob and Santina, 2015, p.348; Wortley, 2003). They seek to sustain politically defined
order and ordering via tracking, surveillance, and arrest. As such, they require compliance to
command from lower participants and citizens. (Peter and Jeffrey, 2015, p.246). Discretion is
universal and legitimate power applied by criminal justice professionals in modern policing, which
requires employing individual judgment for adjudicating whether they use a legal sanction in a
particular situation (McLaughlin, 2013).

Should Donald Trump Be President?
We have a major decision to make, as on every leap year, but this generation of voters has the largest
presidential decision in history. Who should be our president? Donald Trump should not be president
because he has not paid income taxes, insults people over the internet, and has broken other laws.
Electing Donald Trump will have effects such as unfair tax rates, hostile and weak world relations,

Essay about History of Home Schooling
History of Home Schooling
Before public schools emerged, children were educated in the home by their parents. They were taught
arithmetic, practical skills, and to read and write. Some wealthy families preferred hiring a tutor for
their children (Koetzsch, 1997). In the 1840s, prominent leaders such as Horace Mann lead a
movement to institute public schools in the United States (Thattai, 2001). These reformers argued that
public schools would create good citizens, unite society, and prevent crime and poverty. As a result of
their efforts, public elementary schools evolved in American society by the end of the 19th century.
Massachusetts was the first state to pass a compulsory attendance law, ruling that all children had to ...

Many parents followed Holt in his ideas about education and still home school their children based on
Holt s philosophy (Koetzsch, 1997).
The Christian home school movement began in the United States during the 1980 s. Conservative
Christian families believe in a literal translation of the bible and generally have conservative social
views. Public schools and American society are a threat to their beliefs and values. Conservative
Christians believe that public schools are anti religious, dominated by materialism, plagued by
violence, full of sexual promiscuity, and plagued by drug use. Approximately 80 percent of home
schooled children are Conservative Christians (Koetzsch, 1997). By the late 1980 s, many parents
were turning to home schooling as an alternate form of education. By 1998, all fifty states had laws
allowing home schooling (Koetzsch, 1997).
Advantages and Disadvantages to Home Schooling
There are many reasons why parents decide to home school their children. Home schoolers can be
divided into two main groups, ideologues and pedagogues. Ideologues home school their children for
religious purposes. Pedagogues home school because they believe they can teach their children better
than public or private institutions (Thomas, 1998). Parents decide to home school due to religious
reasons because parents have

6. Exposure The Grauballe Man Comparison Piece:
At the heart of the conflicts lay the constitutional status of Northern Ireland. The goal of the unionist
and overwhelmingly Protestant majority was to remain part of the United Kingdom. The goal of the
nationalist and republican, almost exclusively Catholic minority, was to become part of the Republic
of Ireland. Seamus Heaney s presence during the conflicts induced him to ponder upon and write
about the brutal and barbaric consequences in Northern Ireland. The poems in North explore a number
of intriguing and mysterious themes such as the national and cultural past of his homeland, life, death,

The persona, by extension Heaney, likens himself to a comet. Not any comet, but a comet that [is] lost.
Though the comet is part of a wide universe, it is alone. This echoes Heaney s concerns. He feels as
though he is part of the wider community of Ireland, yet he feels psychologically separated from all.
He feels his voice cannot be heard, amongst the masses, that it is covered by those million tons of
light. A hyperbole is used here to depict the insignificance of the comet in universe, and therefore
Heaney in society. He feels worthless. Instead, Heaney wishes for a meteorite. There is a change in
tone from the second stanza to the third. The comet visible at sunset is expected, it should appear. Yet,
the falling star only sometimes appears. The former is expected, whilst the latter is unpredictable.
Heaney himself admires the meteorite, the falling star. This is shown through the use of the
exclamation mark. Unlike the comet which typically follows a cycle, a meteorite is free, it does not
need to abide to a marked trail. Rather, it is able to float and fall whenever and wherever it wishes.
This is metaphoric for Heaney; he wants to be able to express himself freely. Yet, the political
circumstances in Northern Ireland do not allow for such, it forces him to choose sides, to be the voice

Hunting Vs Big Game Hunting
Hunting has been around since the beginnings of human existence. Some people still swear by it
today, claiming that real men hunt let alone the misogynist connotations of that statement, hunting is a
horrendous and barbaric sport . Hunting, especially big game or trophy hunting, is harmful to our
environment and the circle of life. Big game hunting is irrelevant to modern human life and has
different intentions from standard hunting. It also expedites the process of killing off endangered
species.
Big game hunting is the hunting of large animals, almost always large terrestrial mammals, for meat,
other animal by products (such as horn or bone), trophy or sport. Big game hunting has been an

They are also the most desired because of that aspect. They include the African Elephant, Black
Rhinoceros, Cape Buffalo, African Lion, and African Leopard. The African Lion and Elephant are
classified as vulnerable which means if the circumstances threatening its survival and reproduction
rate does not improve then they will be likely to become endangered. The African leopard is near
threatened but is still at a lower risk. The Black Rhino, however, is critically endangered which means
they are very close to being extinct in the wild and the Cape buffalo is the most popularly hunted
however it is of least concern for endangerment although in uncontrolled areas the population is on the
decline due to poaching and urbanization. (World Wildlife Fund)
Trophy hunting has no place in modern society. It does not improve the quality of life for humans or
animals so why is it a continued practice? It has had a different and destructive purpose than regular
game hunting and further kills off already endangered animals. Big game hunting should be made
illegal. Those who participate in big game hunting are already of high monetary status and should be
prosecuted in some other way besides fines because they ll just continue. We have to show love for

Through the film of Julie and Julia, the theme that allows me to get a sense of her identity is cooking. I
believe that the theme cooking gives off her identity in terms of class identity. The film Julie and Julia
demonstrates how the theme cooking gives Julie a sense of purpose, but most importantly how that

Reflection Of Jesus
Jesus continues to preach. He forbids divorce and advocates chastity, while expounding the virtues of
asceticism. He warns against the pitfalls of wealth, teaches forgiveness, and welcomes children. In
Jerusalem, cheering crowds await him. People spread their cloaks on the road, and others cut branches
from the trees and spread them on the road (Matthew 21:8). Upon his arrival in Jerusalem, Jesus
expels money changers from the Jewish temple and defies the chief priests and elders, saying, My
house shall be called a house of prayer, but you are making it a den of robbers (Matthew 21:13). Jesus
s action earns him the support of the crowds. He chastises Jewish leaders, telling them they have been
poor caretakers of the temple and that the people have been hypocritical, focusing on technical legal
issues rather than justice and mercy and faith (Matthew 23:23). Seeing the wickedness of Jerusalem,
and foreseeing God s punishment of the wicked, Jesus warns his disciples to be prepared for the end of
the world. He says that tribulations will precede the final judgment, but that the Son of man Jesus
himself will come, and that the righteous will be saved.
In Chapter 26, Jesus celebrates the Last Supper with the disciples. Jesus indicates that Judas, one of
his disciples, will betray him. Jesus predicts that after his death, the other disciples will flee, and Peter
will also betray him. WhenHe breaks bread and drinks wine with the disciples, Jesus initiates a ritual

Natural Disasters And Manmade Disasters Essay
Abstract Some or maybe all of us have been a part of some event that has taken place throughout their
existence. The events that you or other people may have taken part in have been for enjoyment or for
pleasure as for others or there are people who have gone through a series of events that has completely
ruined their lives in a matter of days. Just to throw this out there, some events that could ruin people
lives are natural disasters or manmade disasters, losing someone that you cared about most in this
world. These events leave us looking hopeless, needing a sense of direction and a big contribution
from the man upstairs. I m here to talk to you about a natural disaster that happen just a little over 10
years ago and the event that had taken place was Hurricane Katrina. What comes to mind when we
think of the word natural disaster? Well my take on it is that it s a major adverse event resulting from
the natural processes of the Earth. Natural disasters can claim properties, damage the economy, and
can even result in death. You know as well as I know what happened in Hurricane Katrina. I went
through it back in 2005. I m here to research and provide a summary of the event, to examine the
precautions (preparations) that were taken beforehand when the storm was still in the tropics, to take a

recovery process and where the state of Louisiana is today. Keywords: Natural

Mercutio as Catalyst in Shakespeare’s play, Romeo and Juliet
Mercutio as Catalyst in Shakespeare s play, Romeo and Juliet
In Shakespeare s play, Romeo and Juliet, the quick witted character Mercutio is a notorious scene
stealer (Utterback 105). Mercutio s major function in the play is to be a catalyst for the plot. Mercutio
s purpose as a character is most significantly revealed in his relationship with Romeo, his baiting of
Tybalt, and his death. More importantly, Mercutio functions as the catalyst for the pattern of disasters
in the play that follows his own tragic death, making him, as described by critic Stephen Greenblatt a
spirit that seems to challenge the very possibility of romantic love or tragic destiny (856).
Mercutio s role in the play is directly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Mercutio urges Romeo to end his romantic relationships. Mercutio tells Romeo If thou are dun we ll
draw thee from the mire / Of save your reverence love, wherein though stickest / Up to the ears
(I.iv.41 43). Mercutio scorns the romantic love and relationships that weaken their friendship.
Mercutio s bawdry and scorn are seen as especially ill mannered because he expresses it in an age
celebrating domesticity and middle class marriage (Porter 34). The connection of Mercutio s name to
the misogynistic god Mercury supports his view of love and relationships (Porter 38). Mercutio s
Mercurian message is that Romeo should stay with, or come back to, the world of male comradeship
(Porter 107).
Furthermore, Mercury was a troublesome, quick to anger, and swift messenger. Likewise, Mercutio is
hot headed and quick to act. Mercutio s need for action and his ridiculing nature are also seen in his
aggressive baiting of Tybalt. At first, Mercutio seems almost excited to see Romeo fight Tybalt in Act
Three, Scene One. And but one word with one of us? Couple it with / something; make it a word and a
blow (III.i.35 36). However, Romeo does not give in to Tybalt s insults and does not accept Tybalt s
challenge to fight. The passive Romeo instead wants love and peace with Tybalt because of his love
for Juliet.
I do protest I never injured thee,

Analysis Of The Poem Adrienne Rich
Women had little resources to escape an unhappy or abusive marriage during the nineteen fifties. Most
just learned to deal with it behind their closed doors in silence. During this time the divorce rate,
according to an article published in 1973 by the National Center for Health Statistics , was at twenty
five percent. (Plateris). Most women did not have the luxury of getting one due to the fact that most
husbands of that time had control of the household finances, not to mention that it was a costly
venture. Some marriages struggled with spousal abuse as well; be it emotional or physical yet
domestic violence at this time was something that people really did not talk about, nor were there the
resources for victims that we have today. In this haunting poem, Adrienne Rich uses symbolism to
paint a picture of a scared, and lonely woman as she creates this tapestry of Tigers being hunted, in a
colorful landscape, while she is pondering her relationship between her and her spouse.
The author starts the poem in a quiet manner with the character Aunt Jennifer sitting peaceably
weaving a tapestry of majestic Tigers being hunted. With bright colors in the first stanza, Bright topaz
denizens of a world of green, (line 2) Topaz is a gem that has a wide color range that includes brown,
blue, green, yellow, orange, red, pink and purple but the definition of it states that a true Topaz is

Analysis Of Marriot International And Marketing Management
According to Davenport (2006), an analytics competitor has the capabilities of gaining insight based
on a consumer s consumption to better make business decisions while optimizing the business
processes. Many top organizations such as Amazon, Capital One and even the Boston Red Sox have
implemented programs that allow for their company to better determine the products and prices of
products that appeal to consumers. These programs also provide companies with the power to
determine how to market, based upon the consumer s fluctuating income and its influence over the
rising and falling of demand and supply chains. While this process of collecting and processing data
may be beneficial to the company, the data gathered should be collected in an ethical manner.
(Davenport, 2006, p.99 100) As noted earlier, there are many organizations who have mastered the
skill set of becoming an analytics competitor. Some companies have implemented the approach taken
by Marriot International. Marriot International has not only mastered the revenue management, it has
become one of the top analytics competitors because of its ability to efficiently use its Total Hotel

Finally, diversity and multiculturalism was a major issue that plagued AGC. Project management and
sensitivity training should have included all expatriates, employees, and cross cultural teams to
strengthen the interpersonal skills needed to be successful. These problems were diagnosed by means
of employee surveys, interviews, and focus groups. In conclusion, the root causes of these problems
were lack of training, poor leadership styles and pool human capital management.
Intervention:
If AGC is going to survive, it s culture needs an overall improvement to increase its performance,
provide a strategic competitive advantage, and encompass unified beliefs and values to be upheld
throughout the company. By ensuring HR is taking the cognitive approach to openly discuss various
cultures and gain knowledge and feedback in a safe and structured setting, AGC will better determine
who is a better fit as an expatriate for the company. The cognitive approach also focuses on assessing
an individual s knowledge of the cultural backgrounds of the participants in efforts to build a strong
understanding into the cultures of others. (Sabotoka, 2017). Pre departure training allows the

Johnny Cash Essay
Johnny Cash was born on February 26th, 1932 in Kingsland, Arkansas. Cash was one of seven
children born to his parents, Ray Cash and Carrie Cloveree. He was named J.R Cash at birth, but when
he later enlisted in the US army he was not allowed use those initials. He then changed his name is
John R.Cash and took Johnny Cash as his stage name. Johnny Cash was an American singer
songwriter, guitarist, actor, and author, widely considered one of the most influential musicians of the
20th century.
Jonny Cash was one of the first people to play in the American prisons. Cash preformed his first
concerts for inmates in 1957 in Texas at the Huntsville State Prison. In 1958 he performed at San
Quentin for the first time, where he influenced inmate Merle Haggard to join the prison country band
and later make a band of his own called The Strangers. In 1966, he first performed in Folsom Prison
for which he wrote the song Folsom Prison Blues
Although Cash carefully cultivated a romantic outlaw image, he never served a prison sentence, even
though he was in jail seven times for small offences, each stay lasted only a single night. His most
well known encounter with the law happened while on tour in 1965, when he was arrested October 4
by a narcotics squad in El Paso, Texas. The officers suspected he was smuggling heroin from Mexico,
but found instead 688 ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Cash attempted to bribe a local deputy, who turned the money down, and then spent the night in a
LaFayette, Georgia, jail. The singer was released after a long talk with Sheriff Ralph Jones, who
warned him of his dangerous behaviour and wasted potential. Cash credited that experience for saving
his life, and he later came back to LaFayette to play a benefit concert that attracted 12,000 people (the
city population was less than 9,000 at the time) and raised $75,000 for the high

Essay On Is Golf A Sport
Global Perspectives 2015/2016
IS GOLF REGARDED AS A GAME OR A SPORT?
I was a pitcher, and my dad played in college. The hardest day of my life was telling him I was going
to quit to focus more on golf. But with golf, I felt like the game can t be perfected, and that motivated
me.
Jordan Spieth, Current World No.1 (2015)
What is golf?
Golf is a club and ball sport in which players use various clubs to hit balls in a 9 or 18 hole course by
playing as few strokes as possible.
What makes golf a unique game?
Golf is deceptively simple and endlessly complicated.
Arnold Palmer, former 7 time major champion.
Though from the introduction golf may seem like an easy sport to learn, but there are its difficulties to
it.
The golf course ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In a website by thesportster.com, it tells 10 reasons why golf should NOT be regarded as a sport.
In a debate created by ProCon.org, which calls itself as a nonpartisan research organization devoted to
critical thinking on controversial issues, it asked that question.
For this, they have presented 12 arguments of both sides of the issue. Within the 12 arguments there
was the argument of whether golf is a game or a sport in dictionary definition. Merriam Webster
defines sport as a physical activity engaged in for pleasure: a particular activity (as an athletic game).
But Merriam Webster defines a game as an activity engaged in for diversion or amusement, which
better suits the definition as a game rather than a sport.
To counter that argument, a British Medical Journal s studies show that the golf swing uses at least 17
muscle groups in the coordinated movement of the hands, wrists, arms, abdomen, and legs. But the
website also states that if golf can be played while drinking and smoking, then it is not considered a
sport. The website shows a picture of an overweight John Daly playing a shot while

The United States Army And Selective Service Essay
The most hardworking people are usually the least recognized. They are generally the least paid as
well. There must be some sort of incentive for them to continually work so hard. The United States
Army has been the underdogs of the military branch. The United States Army is probably the hardest
working branch of the military, but also the least sought after. To the general public they are not
considered to be at the top of the spectrum amongst the other branches of military. The government
has helped in creating a bias within the branches of military by making the standards to get into the
military so low compared to some of the other branches. The Army should be considered the People s
Army. There is a pivotal point in life where as a man must enroll in the selective service. That is a
really scary point in life because it seems like there is a chance to be selected in the military by draft.
There is also entrance in the military by choice. There is a percentage of Americans that willingly
enter into the military coming straight out of high school. Those Americans that willingly want to join
the military are required to take a test called the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery or
ASVAB as it is most commonly called. That test acts as an entrance exam to every branch of the
military, as well as what jobs you qualify for once you pick a branch. The every year Americans shoot
to make the highest score possible in order to be apart of the more sought after branches

Fence Rail Research Paper
Has the chain link fence rail surrounding your commercial property recently been bent in a storm or as
the result of an intruder? If so, you may be worried that repairing this damage will cost a small fortune
and require the use of a professional contractor. However, the truth is, you can limit the impact that
these repairs have on your budget by simply choosing to do the job yourself. Best of all, completing
this task can be much easier than you think when simply following the steps outlined below.
Supplies You Will Need
hacksaw tape measure fence rail tie wires pliers
Step 1: Remove Damaged Rail
Begin by removing the section of damaged rail by cutting the rail into manageable sections using a
hacksaw. The friction caused by this sawing process may result in hot metal sparks. ... Show more

Begin by measuring the space between your fencing posts to ensure you are choosing the right size
rail for the job. Next, remove the post cap, brace bands, and tension bands from the fencing post on
one side of the new rail. This will allow you to slide the new rail into place.
After sliding the rail into place, simply attach the end of the rail to the rail cap. Next, replace the brace
bands to hold the rail in place.
Step 3: Attach Chain Link
Stretch the chain link over the posts and ensure that the brace bands and post caps are in place before
using your pliers to tighten the bolts that connect this fencing material to your newly installed rail.
While this process can be completed on your own, it is much easier to complete with two set of hands
so don t be afraid to ask a co worker or friend for help.
Once the chain link is in place, reattach the tension bars that were removed in the previous step. This
will hold the fencing tight between the surrounding fence posts.
Finally, use your tie wires to secure the chain link to your new top rail.

  • 2. Stand by Me Stand By Me is a movie based on a novel by Stephen King. It tells the story of four preteens, who during a boring summer day, embark on a journey to find the body of a dead twelve year old, who has been missing by news accounts, but known to them, to be lying in the woods near a river bank. The story is told as an historical narrative about the lives and relationships of the four main characters in this movie, Gordy, Chris, Teddy, and Vern. In this essay, I will discuss how communication, and self concept, affects the characters, and their interactions. Gordy La Chance, who is the narrator of this story, can best be described as an introvert. He is living in the shadow of his recently deceased brother, and is having a difficult ... Another example would be when the boys are considering cutting through the woods to find the body, and he stays behind, trying to reason with the group to follow the safe path along the railroad tracks, but in order to fit in, he reluctantly follows. His presenting self is assured and agreeable. Inwardly, or his perceived self, is actually worried, vulnerable, and gullible. Throughout this movie, we learn how relationships are formed and maintained, and how our perceived self, and presenting self can be very different. The boys continually use identity management to jockey for position in the group, however each one knows where they actually belong. It is only when they encounter a difficult situation, that they show their true emotions and feelings. They do stick up for each other, and show true concern and caring when the need arises, however, in the presenting face, they play it much more cool, and even somewhat unconcerned for each other s feelings. In the end, the relationship between the four dwindles, and only Gordy and Chris remained friends. Gordy helped Chris to overcome his self fulfilling prophecy by encouraging him to attend college, and become a lawyer. Chris, in return became a significant force in ... HDFS supports parallel reading and processing of data. It is significantly different from other distributed file systems. Typically HDFS is designed for streaming large files. HDFS is specially designed to run commodity hardware and deployed into low cost hardware. It has large throughput instead of low latency. HDFS typically uses read one write many pattern. It is highly fault tolerant and easy to manage. The main feature of HDFS is built in redundancy it typically keeps multiple replicas in the system. In HDFS cluster manages addition and removal of nodes automatically. Here an operator can operate upto 3,000 nodes at a time. In the HDFS key areas of POSIX semantics have been traded to increase data throughput rate. Working of HDFS Hardware In HDFS hardware failure is a norm. Hardware failure is very common in HDFS. In any instance there is thousands of working server machines. There is huge number of components in HDFS. And each component has significant probability of failure. So there will always be some component which will be not working in HDFS system. Data in HDFS Applications in HDFS will require streaming access to data sets. Batch processing is done rather than interactive use by the users. HDFS is specially designed to operate large data sets. In any single instance it supports millions of files. Model of HDFS ... Each of the myths has it s own original way of explaining concepts, such as the creation of life and mankind. In the Greek myth, Earth was created after the birth of Love and Light. It states, in the Greek myth, From darkness and from death Love was born, ... Love created Light ... What took place next was the creation of the earth. (Hamilton 77) The Greek myth creates more of a pleasurable and aesthetic feel to the creation of Earth. Whereas, in the Norse myth, they explicate in greater detail the process. • 5. Balzac and the Chinese Seamstress Balzac and The Little Chinese Seamstress What is the ironic result in his success in making the Little Seamstress more Sophisticated? What does this suggest about attempting to change others to ones beliefs or desires? Communism came to power in China in the year 1949 and was dictated by Mao Zedong, who later ordered for all educated men and women of China to be reeducated in the countryside. Lou and the narrator were just two of many thousands to be sent off to be reeducated. Also the Red Beaked Ravens shows how that communism is a constant part of there lives. When the Little Seamstress leaves for the city, the Red Beaked Ravens fly away, this shows how she no longer abides by the laws of Communism, and it s restraints on her life. This gives the reader an understanding of the constant supervision received by the people while living under the communist law. Throughout the novel it is proven again and again that you can t change people to how you want them to be, people are always going to be different and individual to an extend. This is the main reason why communism has difficult working. Lou found out this fact all too late, as he realized that the ideas that he had given the Little Seamstress, had driven her away. Although Lou did mange to achieve his goals but the result was meaningless, as the Little Seamstress wanted more than Lou could ever provide in the small village on Phoenix Mountain. This regret is shown by Lou when he falls on the grass next to the narrator, who described him as pale and complaint, and his confusion and frustration is clearly stated in when Lou says she wants to go to the city on. From that point on Lou is quite unsure what to do, his life seems to lose meaning. As he come to terms with his loss In conclusion the ironic result achieved by Lou is that through his selfish views, and little consideration to The Little Seamstress, he lost her by opening her eyes to the world of individualism ... • 6. The Impact of Contemporary Urban Planning Principles and... Since the 1950s, the cities of Saudi Arabia witnessed significant changes in the composition of the population and the arrangement of the built environment. The Saudi society has transformed from a nomadic pastoral society to a highly modernized one as a result of the increase in national revenues from oil production. Rapid growth and improved economic conditions led to the adoption of modern planning principles which are in contrary to the traditional city. Although modernization had contributed to raising the living standard of the neighbourhood, it led to the creation of social, cultural and climate problems as well. The modern history of Saudi Arabia began in 1939 when King Abdul Aziz Al Saud united the parties of the peninsula under a single authority and then declared the emergence of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Before 1939, Riyadh lived a state of poverty, starvation, lack of resources and the most important of all, lack of security. The region began a new phase after the unification of the Kingdom and the spread of security. Walls of the city lost its importance. A number of neighbourhoods were established outside the city walls, with wide and straight streets in response to the arrival of the car has become the means of transport. The planning aspects of the new neighbourhoods do not differ from the built environment within the walled city, the semi private spaces and the courtyard houses are part of the neighbourhoods characteristics (Eben Saleh, 2002). Riyadh had witnessed a considerable increase in population due to immigrants from the surrounding areas (Figure 2). Significant changes in the city of Riyadh occurred when the government established AlMalaz project according to Western planning principles in 1953. • 8. The United States And The Sharing Economy The United States has serious labor market challenges as a result of rising wage inequality between people and the slow middle class wage growth. The need to provide individuals with variety of goods, service and information raise specific economic phenomena called sharing economy . This model of economy includes different types of industry categories: sharing information (YouTube), property (Airbnb), transportation (Uber) and more. The sharing economy works in the same way as a traditional market, where individuals exchange different goods and service. The central concept of sharing economy (collaborative consumption) is the access to the goods. The application of regulation is the major issue with this type of innovated economy. The sharing economy is a nontraditional, because the workers luck of benefits and the type of economical market system that creates an income and job opportunity. On the other hand this type of market provides a different type of benefits as: flexible schedule and employment; saving energy and less waste; self regulation; lower costs of the product. The context is of a great interest since participation in sharing communities and services is characterized by obligation to do good for other people and for the environment, such as sharing, and engaging in sustainable behavior (Prothero et al, 2011). Adaption and Integration: Influence of English on Japanese Language Use It has been many years since English was first introduced to Japanese society. In the progress of the 19th, 20th and 21st century, the English language was a continuous but varying influence on the Japanese language and its culture. The result of this centuries long process is a Japanese language that contains more than its fair share of English loanwords. Although most Japanese people, even those of older age, are familiar with a lot of English loanwords, this does not necessarily mean they are familiar with English. Therefore, these loanwords could be considered redundant and quite double to an outsider. However, in certain situations, the English word is greatly preferred, whereas the Japanese word would stand out strangely, for reasons which will be thoroughly discussed in this section. These English loanwords in Japanese language have been dubbed double loanwords , for the sake of creating an understandable and clear term, specifically for this paper. Notably, there are two domains where these double loanwords appear in Japanese speech; fashion and food. These domains are not coincidental, as both have been heavily influenced by foreign culture. Japanese fashion and Japanese Western style cuisine, or youshoku 洋食, are inspired largely by their French, English and American equivalents. • 10. Canned vs. Homemade Spaghetti Sauce: Price Looking at price alone, it s actually an easy call. At Winco Foods, I bought 26.5 ounce can of Del Monte Mushroom Spaghetti Sauce for 78 cents. At most stores, in fact, I can find canned spaghetti sauce for one dollar or less per can. For comparison purposes, I also purchased one 14 ounce can and one 8 ounce can of tomato sauce, and one four ounce can of mushrooms (stems and pieces). This came to over a dollar and that doesn t even include the onions, herbs and spices that I already had at home. In terms of price alone, the canned spaghetti sauce is obviously the better buy. But for me, there s more to it than that. Canned vs. Homemade Spaghetti Sauce: Taste and appearance Do my family and I actually prefer the canned sauce or the homemade sauce? Based on taste and appearance, I would favor the homemade sauce. The canned sauce is overly sweet, and the mushrooms in the mushroom sauce are nearly invisible they must be finely minced (probably leftover bits from something else). Homemade sauce has tasty chunks and pieces of mushrooms, and I control the herbs and spices, adjusting them to my family s taste. Canned vs. Homemade ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Evaluation Of A Exercise Based Interventions Inter individual variability in the direction and magnitude of weight change in response to supervised exercise based interventions has been well documented (Table 1). Even in the highly controlled environment of an isolated experimental station over an 84 day period exercise induced weight loss ranged between 3 and 12 kg [48]. More recent studies showed that certain participants even gain weight in response to supervised exercise interventions [42,49]. Accordingly, changes in fat mass and fat free mass have been shown to vary considerably [36,42]. King et al. showed a roughly 50:50 split between so called responders (i.e. participants who achieve expected weight loss) and non responders (i.e. participants who experience a small amount of weight loss or weight gain) [36]. Other studies indicate that a majority of participants displays some form of compensatory adaptation with a ratio of responders to non responders of 1:2 [46,49]. Even though there is, most likely, considerable inter individual variability in metabolic adaptations in response to exercise [42,48], success in weight loss interventions has been largely attributed to behavioral compensation such as a decline in non exercise PA and/or an increase in energy intake [22,36,46]; in addition to an obvious association with adherence to the exercise protocol. In fact, it has been argued that the individual variability in weight loss can be entirely attributed to the variability in non exercise PA [46,50]. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This creates power imbalances potentially unfavourable to small companies such as Walker, with large publishers able to compete on price, and large retailers able to negotiate better terms. The price wars are forcing all publishers to spend more on advertising and to market books in more creative ways such as discounting to schools. Other industry trends that increase financial volatility include the hit driven nature of the business and the uncertain impact of technology, both as a product (multimedia) and as a distribution channel (Amazon.com). Walkers Competitive Position Given the favourable (if not dramatic) trends for the children s book market, the cutthroat competitive situation, and Walker s firm specific resources and capabilities, most students recommended that Walker focus on becoming a niche player in the children s market. Children s books are currently Walker s largest source of revenue (40%) and grew by 12.5% (excluding the backlist) between 1995 and 1997, indicating a solid experience base. Given Walker s size, it will be unable to compete on price. Furthermore, the company does not have the resources to enter more profitable segments such as professional (e.g. Legal) books, which require both large upfront costs (e g. $0 million over 5 years for an education title) and large ongoing marketing spending (25% of sales). Henry Ford wanted to stop World War II by creating tanks, jeeps, and other armed forces but it still didn t work. Mein Kampf And The Formation Of Hitlers Ideas Essay Mein Kampf And The Formation Of Hitlers Ideas The dominant political figure of German history in the twentieth century, Adolf Hitler, was born in a lower middle class family in the provincial Austrian town of Braunau am Inn on 20 April 1889. In 1907 Hitler applied to enter the Vienna Academy of Art but his application was rejected. After the death of his mother Klara, Hitler decided to move to Vienna. He drifted from job to job, often selling sketches or painting scenes of Old Vienna and it was a period that he himself later called the most miserable period of his life. Many of Hitler s views of the world were shaped by his experiences on the streets of Vienna and it is probable that his violent anti Semitism dates from this time. ... In the nineteenth century the naturalist Charles Darwin had explained how in the world of nature when the environment changed some of the species with favourable variations survived better that others. Darwin called this natural selection . Social Darwinism was a concept that emerged later in the nineteenth century suggesting that what applied to nature could also apply to human society that the strong prevail over the weak, that superior races prevail over inferior races. This concept with its theme of struggle and survival of the fittest appealed to Hitler. Struggle wrote Hitler is the father of all things...He who wants to live must fight and who does not want to fight in this world where external struggle is the law of life has no right to exist *. In Mein Kamph Hitler offered some insight into his thinking on exercise of power and in particular the important role of propaganda, his contempt of parliamentary democracy and the Weimar Republic. Hitler also wrote of the need for a national revival and the quest for living space. Hitler linked his hatred of communism with his hatred of Jews. In Hitler s mind Russia was the centre ... • 20. The Human Psyche Has Molded Modern Film Today Essay Connections: How Carl Jung s study of the human psyche has molded modern film today? Carl Jung, throughout film in both our modern age today and film that dates back to the 1900 s we see glimpses and flashes of Jung s study. However to the simple viewer, or should I say the average viewer these glimpses of Jung s study are easily missed or mistaken for nothing more than a good idea or just another schizophrenic movie. Therefore for my connections piece I have chosen to have a closer look and analyse several films through the eyes of Carl Jung; specifically looking at his theory of the Jungian Archetypes and how these are each represented in film. The four films that I will be critically analysing are Black Swan directed by Darren Aronofsky 2010, Fight Club directed by David Fincher 1999, The Double directed by Richard Ayoade 2013 and The Machinist directed by Brad Anderson 2004. One thing that all these films have in common is their direct correlation with the Jungian Archetypes, where we see the shadow and persona struggle in a battle for transcendence; to achieve self enlightenment or self happiness. Carl Jung was born on July 26, 1875; it was not known then, but this young child was destined to become arguably the greatest psychologist to date, and his theories were going to change the world as they knew it. Carl Jung had come up with the idea of Jungian archetypes, this is where he theorised that we all are comprised of three different people within ourselves. These ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 21. Essay On Mad Cow Disease 1.1 Prions Prions are an incongruous pathogen that is causative of transmissible spongiform encephalopathies (TSE); a group of fatal neurodegenerative diseases found in mammals. This abnormal proteinaceous particle is believed to be a post translational mutation of a normal cellular protein found in the brain (Emmanuel, 2002). This naturally occurring pathogen acts similarly to a viral infection, however as it lacks nucleic acid it is invulnerable to death via means of antibiotics or sterilisation. PrPc and PrPsc, the known prion proteins indicative of TSE s, are known to bind to the surface of neurons and fold these proteins into an abstract spongiform structure. It is believed that the rendering process that existed at the time allowed the prion agent to survive, mutate and overcome the species barrier to infect cattle (NCBA, 2017). 1.4 Symptoms and Detection Clinical signs generally appear in cattle that are more than 30 months old. Incubation tends to last 4 to 6 years before finally killing the host. This extended lifespan is due to the spine and brain being targeted late in the incubation period (NCBA, 2017). Currently no TSE detection test exists for live animals; official diagnosis can only be made through an examination of brain tissue. Studies have detected BSE most commonly in the brain, optic nerve and spinal cord. As such, diagnosis must be made through observation of behavior. Common symptoms include; deranged temperament, unusual posture, lack of coordination, muscle tremors, decreased milk production and decreased body mass despite maintained appetite (National Cattlemen s Beef Association, 2017). These iconic drunken mannerisms coined the term Mad Cow Disease . It is noteworthy that not all affected cattle display symptoms. These carriers amplified outbreaks as they were similarly rendered into ruminant protein rations. 1.5 Transmission BSE is generally transmitted through the digestion of a contaminated vector (meat). • 22. Role Models Influence Us As Humans Role models influence us as humans. We use our parents, community leaders, and even celebrities to shape ourselves in a similar way to them. Media, like a role model, influences society. Also, media, which society creates, is also the tool that shapes and moulds it. The theory that media (technology) shapes society technological determinism is introduced by Canadian scholars Harold Innis and Marshall. Though this is a technologically determinist way of looking at communication, the different modes of communication (media) oral, literate, and electronic influence society through the way we store knowledge, through the manner in which we share knowledge, and through the way we connect with each other socially. First, the oral mode of communication influenced society through the way we store knowledge. In an oral society, particular members of society store important knowledge. For instance, in First Nations communities in Canada the Elders store their history and tradition and share it with the future generations. In the book Aboriginal Perspectives, the Kainai Board of Education, who educates the Nitsitapi tribal members in Alberta, states that past generations depend upon Elders to pass along their stories, and future generations depend on the young to learn and remember the Elder s knowledge (KBE 50). This society depends heavily on its members to survive. As a result, separating the members of this society can result in the loss of vital knowledge for example, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Showing how these two characters were changed by the war they became a part of. Some of the growth in these men might be subtle, but there are definite changes you see by the end of the story. In the beginning of the novel, Uncas is extremely reticent, and prefers to let his actions speak for themselves. However, he has a strong moral compass and does not often stray from the path that will help his companions, no matter the circumstances. Being one of the last two Mohican Chiefs, he fights with valor against the Mingos and French, and is strongly devoted to his father, Chingachgook and his companion Hawkeye. Uncas is an expert at hunting and tracking, and these skills come in very handy when his love interest, Cora, and her sister Alice are taken captive by Magua, a rival Indian who wants revenge. Uncas being enamored with Cora is one of the romantic aspects in the novel, and one that, at the time, was quite controversial. Being that interracial marriages were not common, and in some places was not allowed. Uncas role in early stages of their adventure was to see to Cora and Alice. Rise of national identity and culture 2.Dissolution 3. Political and religious refugees and 4. Change in technology. With all four of these being relevant to the time, it sets up the importance of the remake of the fairy tale. We have to look critically at where we are and where we are going because of our pop culture and politics. While some may argue that fairy tales have become less important to society as we are advancing in technology there are some that still strike important meaning to this day. Fairy tales in this day have often become associated with 1) Disney and 2) princess culture. And while there is nothing wrong with these, in fact I am a huge fan of both of them myself, as a result many other fairy tales have been pushed into the background. One such fairy tale is The Emperor s New Clothes, originally written down by Hans Christian Andersen in 1837. This tale is able to examine how social media is changing our interactions as well as talk about the political climate in which we now live in. This then makes it the perfect candidate for a modern remake movie. The american public is the becoming the emperor as we lose sight of what s really import by social media consumption, while the current political climate is the people who are promising to make us robes. Policing was a combination of national economic interests, domestic and international security, and represented in time by distinctive organizations (Chapman, 1970; Emsley, 1994). They have responsibility for peace preservation, and crime prevention as well as upholding the laws, providing assistance in personal emergencies, and coordinating and managing emergency incidents. Since the police can employ the discretionary powers, which is a flexible way to dispose of social problems, in a manner that either directs offenders to or diverts them away from, further penetration into the justice system, they are seen as the gatekeepers of the criminal justice system, model authority, and law abiding enforcement (Rob and Santina, 2015, p.348; Wortley, 2003). In the 1840s, prominent leaders such as Horace Mann lead a movement to institute public schools in the United States (Thattai, 2001). These reformers argued that public schools would create good citizens, unite society, and prevent crime and poverty. By 1998, all fifty states had laws allowing home schooling (Koetzsch, 1997). Advantages and Disadvantages to Home Schooling There are many reasons why parents decide to home school their children. Home schoolers can be divided into two main groups, ideologues and pedagogues. Ideologues home school their children for religious purposes. He feels his voice cannot be heard, amongst the masses, that it is covered by those million tons of light. A hyperbole is used here to depict the insignificance of the comet in universe, and therefore Heaney in society. He feels worthless. Instead, Heaney wishes for a meteorite. There is a change in tone from the second stanza to the third. The comet visible at sunset is expected, it should appear. Yet, the falling star only sometimes appears. The former is expected, whilst the latter is unpredictable. Heaney himself admires the meteorite, the falling star. This is shown through the use of the exclamation mark. Unlike the comet which typically follows a cycle, a meteorite is free, it does not need to abide to a marked trail. Rather, it is able to float and fall whenever and wherever it wishes. Upon his arrival in Jerusalem, Jesus expels money changers from the Jewish temple and defies the chief priests and elders, saying, My house shall be called a house of prayer, but you are making it a den of robbers (Matthew 21:13). Jesus s action earns him the support of the crowds. He chastises Jewish leaders, telling them they have been poor caretakers of the temple and that the people have been hypocritical, focusing on technical legal issues rather than justice and mercy and faith (Matthew 23:23). Most just learned to deal with it behind their closed doors in silence. During this time the divorce rate, according to an article published in 1973 by the National Center for Health Statistics , was at twenty five percent. (Plateris). Most women did not have the luxury of getting one due to the fact that most husbands of that time had control of the household finances, not to mention that it was a costly venture. Some marriages struggled with spousal abuse as well; be it emotional or physical yet domestic violence at this time was something that people really did not talk about, nor were there the resources for victims that we have today. These programs also provide companies with the power to determine how to market, based upon the consumer s fluctuating income and its influence over the rising and falling of demand and supply chains. While this process of collecting and processing data may be beneficial to the company, the data gathered should be collected in an ethical manner. The Influence Of Digital Media On The United States Army The Influence of Digital Media on the United States Army Digital media has integrated itself into nearly every facet of the modern United States Army. For many years, the Army has increased its dependency on the use of digital media in day to day operations, training, communications, public relations, and administrative tasks. Some people claim that we are too dependent on these technologies for our own good. However, it has helped keep us the most powerful fighting force on the face of the planet. This case study will look at five functional areas that digital media has improved the Army: Administration, Training, Communication, Public Relations, and Warfighting Capabilities. This meant the signed copy then had to be scanned back into the computer and then emailed or uploaded into a database. Of course, the original paper copy still existed, so the Army had not met the goal of being paperless yet. Finally, around 2012 the Army acquired the technology that included the digital signature that would allow them to truly go paperless. The technology had existed for five years, but the Army s slow procurement and distribution process was one of the many lessons learned: in the digital age, the Army had to move faster and be more flexible to change. This paperless platform would allow the Army to overhaul all administrative systems. The Publication Directorate stopped printing paper copies of manuals and regulations, and posted the digital copies to an online library, where changes could easily be updated. Evaluations could be completed online, signed online, and submitted online. Leave forms and award recommendations could go from one user to approver with the click of a button across the world if needed. And promotion boards no longer needed to flip through endless reams of paper to select candidates just click through digital copies of a file for a potential promotion candidate. The Army is positioning itself for the future by reducing the number of people it needs to do the administrative work of the past and train the future administrators in computer applications for the future. Project management and sensitivity training should have included all expatriates, employees, and cross cultural teams to strengthen the interpersonal skills needed to be successful. These problems were diagnosed by means of employee surveys, interviews, and focus groups. In conclusion, the root causes of these problems were lack of training, poor leadership styles and pool human capital management. Intervention: If AGC is going to survive, it s culture needs an overall improvement to increase its performance, provide a strategic competitive advantage, and encompass unified beliefs and values to be upheld throughout the company. By ensuring HR is taking the cognitive approach to openly discuss various cultures and gain knowledge and feedback in a safe and structured setting, AGC will better determine who is a better fit as an expatriate for the company. The cognitive approach also focuses on assessing an individual s knowledge of the cultural backgrounds of the participants in efforts to build a strong understanding into the cultures of others. In a debate created by ProCon.org, which calls itself as a nonpartisan research organization devoted to critical thinking on controversial issues, it asked that question. For this, they have presented 12 arguments of both sides of the issue. Within the 12 arguments there was the argument of whether golf is a game or a sport in dictionary definition. Merriam Webster defines sport as a physical activity engaged in for pleasure: a particular activity (as an athletic game). But Merriam Webster defines a game as an activity engaged in for diversion or amusement, which better suits the definition as a game rather than a sport. To counter that argument, a British Medical Journal s studies show that the golf swing uses at least 17 muscle groups in the coordinated movement of the hands, wrists, arms, abdomen, and legs. But the website also states that if golf can be played while drinking and smoking, then it is not considered a sport. The website shows a picture of an overweight John Daly playing a shot while

  • 47. The United States Army And Selective Service Essay The most hardworking people are usually the least recognized. They are generally the least paid as well. There must be some sort of incentive for them to continually work so hard. The United States Army has been the underdogs of the military branch. The United States Army is probably the hardest working branch of the military, but also the least sought after. To the general public they are not considered to be at the top of the spectrum amongst the other branches of military. The government has helped in creating a bias within the branches of military by making the standards to get into the military so low compared to some of the other branches. The Army should be considered the People s Army. There is a pivotal point in life where as a man must enroll in the selective service. That is a really scary point in life because it seems like there is a chance to be selected in the military by draft. There is also entrance in the military by choice. There is a percentage of Americans that willingly enter into the military coming straight out of high school. Those Americans that willingly want to join the military are required to take a test called the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery or ASVAB as it is most commonly called. That test acts as an entrance exam to every branch of the military, as well as what jobs you qualify for once you pick a branch. Next, remove the post cap, brace bands, and tension bands from the fencing post on one side of the new rail. This will allow you to slide the new rail into place. After sliding the rail into place, simply attach the end of the rail to the rail cap. Next, replace the brace bands to hold the rail in place. Step 3: Attach Chain Link Stretch the chain link over the posts and ensure that the brace bands and post caps are in place before using your pliers to tighten the bolts that connect this fencing material to your newly installed rail. While this process can be completed on your own, it is much easier to complete with two set of hands so don t be afraid to ask a co worker or friend for help. Once the chain link is in place, reattach the tension bars that were removed in the previous step. This will hold the fencing tight between the surrounding fence posts.
