Vampires And Pop Culture
We have been living in the era of vampires and any other kinds of monsters for a while now.
Vampires have always been relatable creatures, which allows fans to connect with vampire
characters. They represent the attraction towards being a vampire and having eternal life and are
presented to popular culture in a way that is attractive and relatable to the evolution of vampires
(Del Toro and Hogan 37). Over the past years, vampires have jumped in popularity and pop
culture appeal, taking over our television sets, the movie theaters and box offices and books from
around the world. Around 2010, Hollywood released four vampirefilms along with a bunch of
vampire DVD s, and the immensely popular television series like the vampire diaries and true
blood continued to air due to how popular those shows are. One monster I d like to put as an
example would be vampires Blood Thirsty: Why are Vampires Ruling Pop Culture? by Lindsay
Bradshaw. They are the latest trends to appear on pop culture`s radar, but this is not the first time
its caught the publics eye. Vampires have been a constant presence in the literature and film world
since the 1897`s publication of Bram Stoker`s Dracula, arguably the best vampire text of all time.
The idea that vampires exist across the globe has been a subject of folk tale, superstition, and myth
throughout the history of man. Even before the famous Dracula, the word vampires was originated
in eastern European Folklore, terrorizing small communities in

George Orwell s 1984 And World War II
Broken Record World War II was the most disastrous war to date. When Hitler invaded other
territories, the leaders of those countries succumbed to Hitler s rising power. As a result, millions
of people died. In George Orwell s 1984, similar events occurred. In fact, 1984 and World War II
correlate well for the following reasons: countries switched sides, casualties were high, battles
were fought in a variety of areas, and concentration camps existed. During the World War II era,
allegiances fluctuated depending on needs and circumstances. Although countries such as
England, the United States, and Canada consistently fought with the Allies, the USSR initially
signed a treaty with Germany. Only once Hitler moved against the USSR did it join the Allies.
This kind of change in allegiance is similar to one that occurred in Orwell s 1984. Initially
citizens of Oceania were told that the enemy was Eastasia. In fact, Jones, Aaron, and Rutherford
were accused of spying for Eastasia. Later in the novel, Oceania and Eastasia joined forces against
Eurasia. Oceania even rewrote all of the newspapers, periodicals, textbooks, novels, and magazines
so that history would show Eurasia as the enemy and Eastasia the ally. 1984 relates well to the
Soviet Unions position in World War II because of the continuous change of sides. During World
War II, many people died on both sides. The numbers do not lie World War 2 was one of the
largest conflicts in recorded history with no corner of

The Secret Sharer Symbolism Essay
The novella, The Secret Sharer, by Joseph Conrad contains many great examples of symbolism,
strong and influential thematic elements, and tones of mystery and loneliness. From the
beginning of the story, the narrator uses the setting to explain the situation. The narrator
illustrates a picture of a captain far away from home with the crew that s not appropriately fond
of him. This separation gives the reader an idea of how lonely he is on the ship. The crew
dislikes him and feels unsafe around him, this makes it hard for the captain to build a sense of
trust and have strong friendships. The crew is very hesitant to do what the captain says to do.
The captain is properly stressed by his surroundings, the crew, making his judgment very dicey.
The silence in the book is used to create a sense of suspense. The suspense adds to the idea of the
boat being creepy and lonely. The author expects the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Near the end of the book, the narrator gives Leggatt his captain s hat as a symbol of respect and
brotherly love at the beginning. Leggat loses the hat after diving into the water in the middle of
the night. The captain sees the hat and uses the hat to see the direction in which the boat was
moving. And now, behold, it was saving the ship, by serving me for a mark to help out the
ignorance of my strangeness. Captain. The hat given to Leggatt by the captain was used to save
the ship. This saves the captain s butt, much like he did for Leggatt earlier in the book. The
cabin used for hiding Leggatt symbolizes the distant relationship that the captain has with his
entire crew. The reader can infer that the narrator spends a lot of time in his cabin because he is
able to describe the cabin in explicit detail. This would make sense because he is separate from
his crew in the cabin. this is symbolic of him being distant from his crew for a long time, not being
able to make relationships with his

...awareness of the impossibility opens consciousness to all that is possible for it to think. In this
gathering place, where violence is rife, at the boundary of that which escapes cohesion, he who
reflects within cohesion realizes that there is no longer any room for him (Theory of Religion 10).
When Georges Bataille first published The Story of the Eye in 1928, anonymously and in a limited
edition of 134 copies (Lechte 118), he had been at the BibliothГЁque Nationale in the department of

It executes Bataille s need to express through his writings what could not be contained by the
cultural system within which he lived and worked, and it expresses his need to recognize the
existence of what the system cannot contain the vision of that other eye out of which he looks at
the world. Thus rather than dismiss this text as juvenile or adolescent writing, readers should be
aware of it as an early declaration of identity formation, one affected by actual events in his life and,
although overwhelmingly privileging his sexual obsessions, one which contains nevertheless the
core of his thinking.
In Bataille s profession of librarianship, cataloging or classification of material becomes obsessive
to the extent that every item within a collection must have a named place or it cannot have a place
in the collection, for only by being inserted into a named placed within a system can an object be
curated or cared for. Bataille captures the intention of this systematizing in his Documents essay on
The Use Value of D.A.F. de Sade when he writes: the work of philosophy as well as science or

Aldrige Beer
ALRIDGE BREWING COMPANY
Craft Brewing Goes Public In August 1995, Paul Shipman, the CEO of Alridge Brewing (AB)
prepared himself to enter uncharted territory. A craft brewing operation had never before been
taken public in the United States, and he and his management team were about to do just that. Sure,
there were massive large batch breweries like Anheuser Busch and Miller Brewing Company that
were profitable, publicly traded firms but there was something different about Alridge: it embodied
the ethos and grassroots beginnings of the microbrew movement, and Shipman was confident that
widespread market demand for craft beer was set to explode. He and the team had steadily
developed their premium quality handmade ales for nearly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

They also bought and cleaned up an old transmission shop in Seattle, and McElevey painstakingly
reconstructed a recycled brewery that he located and had shipped from Germany. Many test
batches and recipes later, the trio were happy with their first product and planned a grand opening
on August 11, 1982 which was attended by both the mayor of Seattle and the governor of
Washington State.4 Their marketing strategy was primarily word of mouth; they began their
marketing campaign by reaching out to local restaurants, bars and brewpubs to carry kegs of their
beer, which was delivered in early years by a single truck.5

AB beer was brewed by a special system that involved adding fresh hops to freshly milled grain,
fermenting with proprietary yeast in a temperature controlled vat and employing a filtration
process. The bottled beer was not exposed to the air until it was opened by the consumer and was
hand dated for peak consumption within 14 days. AB s attention to the highest quality, traditional
European brewing methods and locally sourced ingredients helped them to build a strong local
reputation and loyal consumer following. Shipman wanted to control every aspect of the process,

German Prehistory Sparknotes
Many of the ideas that served as a basis for the Nazi party s interpretation of the archaeological
record can be attributed to the work done by a German pre historian named Gustaf Kossinna.
Kossinna played a major role in the development of German prehistory. Following their defeat in
1918 at the end of World War Iand the signing of the Treaty of Versailles, the feeling of national
pride had fled from many of the individuals in Germany. Kossinna, sought to reignite the feeling
of German pride under the grounds that Germany was part of a superior Arian race. In emphasis
of this belief, he dedicated his book German Prehistory: a Pre eminently National Discipline; To the
German people, as a building block in the reconstruction of the externally as well as internally
disintegrated fatherland (cited by Arnold 1992: 32).... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One aspect that made his book so appealing is the fact that he claims German responsibility for
almost all major technologic breakthroughs in western history. (Figure 1) He based much of his
research finding on the interpretation of prehistoric symbols that were found on pottery and
painted on cave walls. Interpreted as being an early form of writing, many of these symbols would
later be incorporated into the Nazi party. Further, his theory on Arian expansion in which he
mapped the spread of cultural and technological ideas out of Germany would lead to numerous
excavations in occupied

Women In The Fifth Letter Heloise
In the fifth letter Heloise refers to women as the weaker sex. Regardless of whether or not she
believed that herself, that was the common thought of the Middle Ages. It was believed that the
female mind was inadequately equipped, compared to that of a males, and it was frowned upon for
a womanto show that she might be more intelligent than any male. According to Williams and
Echols, women physicians were often charged as witches by male physicians or tangled up in
legal issues because they competed with the males. Heloise was very careful to never challenge
Abelard s intelligence. She always addressed him as if he were above her, and appealed to his
position in the church regardless of the fact that in contrast to Heloise , Abelard had failed

In the second letter, Abelard asserts his authority over Heloise, and states that she can only
contact him if she is seeking help for matters that pertain to God. Heloise acquiesced to this
because she realized that to Abelard, she was the weaker sex, and that he needed her to seek his
advice to prove his authority over her and also because she wanted to continue to correspond with
him. According to Professor Stephen G. Nichols, writing was equivalent to the caress that Heloise
used to receive from Abelard. In the fifth letter, she appeals to Abelard s ego by addressing his need

Pica And Rumination Research Paper
What exactly are pica and rumination disorder? Pica is the act of eating items that are non
nutritive, in other words they have little to no nutritional value to the human body. Things that
could be eaten include glass, couch cushions, chalk, glue, just about anything that normally would
not be considered to be taken into the body. This can happen because of trying to avoid high
calorie items foods and the desire for weight loss. Rumination disorder is when someone(typically
children) have swallowed food and spit it back up and begin chewing it again. This behavior does
not happen because of medical reasons either.
In the study, they used 149 females that had eating disorders and 100 men and women that were
considered obese. There were few reports of eating non edible objects. Barely anyone at from
either group met the criteria for pica. 7.4% of the people experienced rumination. The prevalence is
still unknown. The females with eating disorders had 93.8% of the patients had the same
diagnosis. The males and females from the other place had 95% of the patients had the same
diagnosis. These numbers are not far apart which could mean they are pretty closely related and
accurate, but this is not enough evidence to make the prevalence known. ... Show more content on

Christmas is a holiday celebrated by many around the world, especially in the United States.
During the Christmas season lights are displayed and other dГ©cor all around the city including
courthouses, parks, and state capitals. However, Meanie Springer Mock in the article, Separation
of Church and State: A war on Christmas and other Misguided Notions argues that Christians and
other religious symbols shouldn t be displayed on government buildings. Mock uses many
rhetorical devices such as, Aristotelian appeals in the form of ethos and pathos she also uses Irony
to persuade her audience. One of the first rhetorical devices Mock uses is ethos. Mock uses ethos

The pathos that Mock uses also leads to imagery because she is showing the audience how
people today view Christmas as a season with Frosty the snowman and Rudolph instead of it
being viewed as the birth of Christ. As Mock explains that the supreme court decided that the
government could place Christian symbols on buildings for holiday purposes she uses irony to
point out her views on this. Mock wonders, why such government displays are necessary asks do
Christians really need baby Jesus on the courthouse steps to remind them of his birth? This is irony
because she is informing the audience of why it is necessary for Christianity symbols to be
displayed everywhere when Christians should already be celebrating the birth of Jesus and talk
about it among their family. Irony is used to inform the audience that the state and church should be
separated because there is no point in the government wasting money to show that they support the
Christmas season. Overall Mock purpose is to persuade the audience that Christian symbols should
not be placed on government

Survey Questions On Starbucks Corporation
Name: Shanice Forbes and Sharifa Small
Fair Trade: Starbucks Corporation
Methods
Survey Questions
The survey questions mostly consisted of multiple choice questions, two open ended questions,
allowing written responses, and one qualitative response question. These questions were chosen to
establish consumers differences and comparative perspective of Starbuck s competitors, their daily
usage of the social media platforms, the coffee shops visited frequently, and their opinions on
consumers who frequent Starbucks. The survey contains one matrix/rating scale question (
Appendix I, Question 5) based on how important qualities are when choosing a coffee shop.
Lastly, there were two demographic questions. The demographic questions are for a general
understanding on consumers behavior based on age group and gender. For an overview of the
survey, see appendix I.
Survey Development The purpose of the survey entitled Starbucks Corporation Survey was to
determine if the recent Starbucks Public Relations campaigns have been effective at reaching
consumers (See appendix I, Question 6 for complete list of campaigns options), to learn more
about consumers buying behaviors towards Starbucks compared to it competitors, and the
characteristics of consumers loyalty. The survey was created through Survey Monkey by the
researchers who conducted the study. Survey Monkey provided their answer style as a guideline
for the research. An example of this would be the matrix/rating scale

Chronicle Of A Death Foretold Analysis
Chronicle of a Death Foretold: Termination Through Tradition Tradition typically serves as the
heart of societal and cultural health. In the case of Gabriel GarcГa MГЎrquez s novella Chronicle
of a Death Foretold, this could not be further from the truth. The story depicts a scandal between a
scantily married woman named Angela Vicario who reveals to her groom Bayardo San RomГЎn
that she has already been deflowered. Following the tradition in this town, she is returned to her
mother for a beating. Angela s twin brothers are told that the culprit is Santiago Nasar, a rich
townsman, and the brothers, again following the rules of the town, set out to murder him. Although
the brothers do not want to complete the task, the people who know about the plan, namely
everyone in the town, fails to intervene. MГЎrquez s judgement about harmful traditions slowly
exposes itself through the careful and disordered irony of the text to show how a ritualized
society defaces the purpose of honor. Soon after Bayardo and Angela s wedding, the bishop, an
important figure to the town, seemingly makes an appearance: What happened, according to her,
was that the boat whistle let off a shower of compressed steam as it passed by the docks, and it
soaked those who were closest to the edge. It was a fleeting illusion: the bishop began to make the
sign of the cross in the air opposite the crowd on the pier, and he kept on doing it mechanically
afterwards, without malice or inspiration, until the boat

Procedure Of Completing The Tender
Once the contracting company has been selected through a single or two stage tender. The
procedure of completing the tender and actually getting the project is the next step. Tender
process An invitation to tender is a formal invitation to make an offer for the project There are
several parts to form a tender and to put in a bid to the client. In this section each part of the
tender process would be explained in detail. When it comes to tendering for a bid, it is important
to understand that the different bidders that have been invited to bid are submitting a contract,
explaining why they would be perfect for the project. The first information for a design and build
tender would be defining the contract, giving details of timescales for commencement and
completion. By defining the contract, the company the tender is sent to, will instantly know
what the contract is about and have a brief idea of how they are putting in a bid for it. When it
comes to construction, timescale is very important. If a project is delayed or starts late, the client
is losing out on money and on a big project or on any project, you want to save as much money as
possible but still have the best result. So by giving details for the commencement and completion
of the project gives the client an idea when it would be done by and they can decide if that is in the
same timescale they d want the project done by. After defining the contract, the contract conditions
follow. The contract conditions

Video compression utilizes high computational power. For real time requirements of multimedia
applications faster computations need to be performed. To fulfill such requirements of video
compression a parallel computational algorithm can be implemented. In this thesis, the parallelism
of multi core architecture was exploited using block matching algorithm. The test implementation
of the algorithm was done on MATLAB. The parallel model was designed using OpenMP and its
implementation was tested on multi core architectures. The parallel implementation divides a
current frame into independent macro blocks and each block is allotted to OpenMP section which
then assigns it to a thread for performing the computations. The result of the implementation shows
speedier computations with effective utilization of multi cores. This work suggests a promising
approach which can further be developed and exploited. Keywords motion estimation, block
matching algorithm, multi core architecture, OpenMP, multithreading. I.INTRODUCTION In the

Salt Lake City looks like a very large well organised city, there are fair house allotments and they

way the city is set out it is obvious that a strong leader who knew what he wanted has planned the
city and shows through the city that it is very disciplined. There may have been school their as
well which would have proven what a well organised city this is. There are a few large churches,
which tells us that this city is prosperous and religious.

Apart from law and order there were many other problems in mining towns. The majority of the
population were males and built their own cabins, this meant they were probably not very good
or safe. Also they did there own cooking, which probably wasn t the best diet and probably got
food poisoning often. There was an epidemic of typhoid in fall and early winter but there were no
deaths, which show there were healthy and strong. The houses had no drains and most houses were
badly kept so the houses were most likely dirty.
The problems of law and order in early western towns can be studied using the sources these
show lots of lawlessness in towns and murdering. One source shows a bank robbery, this is proof
that the towns did not have any policing. The source shows also that a few vigilantes on the scene,
further proof that the towns were lawless. Vigilantes were present because of the lack of law that
there was in the towns. They felt it necessary that law had to be imposed on the town other wise it
could fall apart.
Another source shows a notice from vigilantes pinned to a man hung for murder. This is useful
because it shows the vigilantes taken the law into there own hands. It also states the reasons for
the vigilantes forming, it tells us that life and security is too sacred to not be protected so they will
resort to these means even if it means killing

order for them to change a worldthat was dominated by men, women needed to refuse what
history said was their essence, and rather, use that essence to create critical ways of being in the
world. The photograph, a crudely colored photograph of your world as it appears to us who see it

Therefore, women believed that they had no choice other than to side with men. They were
dependent on their fathers or husbands income, which prevented them from freedom. Although
women did not work as judges, lawyers, or any other job in the public world, they worked at home.
Women were wives, mothers, and daughters, and without them, the state would collapse and fall to
pieces, without whose work your sons, Sir, would cease to exist, (Three Guineas 54).
Although this was unjust, men were not entirely at fault. Married men got paid twice that of a
bachelor. Half of men s salary belonged to their wives, but women had little access to their
husband s salary. We may assume that the wife of an educated man has as much money to spend,
(Three Guineas 55). Then why, didn t women spend that money on pleasures that she enjoyed?
Because men made the money, women allowed them to decide how it should be spent. She lays
out thousands and thousands of pounds upon clubs to which her own sex in not admitted; upon
racecourses where she may not ride; upon colleges from which her own sex is excluded. She pays
a huge bill annually for wine which she does not drink and for cigars which she does not smoke,
(Three Guineas 56). Once all of the bills were paid, women should have spent their share on causes
that were important to them, on something that would benefit their own well being, such as
education. Without their own

Industry Information Key economic factors Coffee consumption in the US and Europe equals
approximately one third of the tap water consumed annually, with annual production of
approximately seven million tons estimated in 2010 (http://www.coffeefacts.com). Worldwide,
nearly 25 million small producers derive their income from coffee; the economies of Africa,
Indonesia, and South and Central America are especially dependent on coffee production. The
majority of this production takes place in Brazil, where approximately five million people are
involved in the cultivation and harvest of over 5 billion coffee plants without the aid of modern
machinery. (Rice, 2003, p. 228). By 2003, the number of retail specialty coffee shops, cafes,
kiosks, coffee carts, and roasters in the United States reached over 17,000, equating to nearly $9
billion in sales. According to the Specialty Coffee Association of America, 16 percent of adults
in the United States drink coffee from one of these specialty outlets daily. ( Organo Gold , 2008).
The price of coffee is impacted by several factors. Meteorological events can affect the quality of a
harvest or even wipe out entire plantations. The political and economic stability of the coffee
growing regions can have a profound effect on availability, and subsequently price per pound.

The Lightning Thief, By Percy Jackson
The book revolves around a 12 year old kid named Percy Jackson finding out that he is a
demigod and the one of Poseidon, the god of the seas. The Lightning Thief is the first part of the
Percy Jackson and the Olympians 5 book series. Written by Uncle Rick Riordan, it introduces
another side of the typical Greek Mythologyseries in which he had made his own story of the
Olympian gods and their children using them as a guide and reference. As you start reading
chapter one, it will ultimately tell your mind to keep reading the next chapters, as quoted If you

The History and Treatments of the Virus Ebola Essay
I want you to imagine yourself in a room. Fill it with whatever furnishings you like. Are you
done? If so, I want you to imagine ten people in this room with you. They can be people you
know or completely fictitious. Consider this. What if I told you that a virus could kill nine out of
these ten people and there was nothing you could do to stop it? It is a scary thought, but one that
carries real substance in various regions of Africa. In this paper, I will inform you on the virus
known as Ebolawhich will include its history, inner workings, signs/symptoms, treatment, and
prevention. As a precaution, I must warn you that some of this information is not for the faint of

(ResearchHistory.org Staff). What most people do not realize is that Ebola is not one virus. Ebola
actually has five different subtypes.
1.Ebola Zaire
2.Ebola Sudan
3.Ebola Ivory Coast
4.Ebola Bundibugyo
5.Ebola Reston
Of the five subtypes, Ebola Reston is the only one that does not cause illness in humans. (Kivi). The
two first subtypes of Zaire and Sudan, usually occur simultaneously when an outbreak happens. The
Ivory Coast subtype originated from CГґte d Ivoire s Tai forests in Africa. Initially contained to
chimpanzees, humans soon got this subtype of Ebola due to improper containment procedures
during autopsies of the chimps. The Bundibugyo subtype is the newest one discovered by
modern medicine. Named after the Ugandan district from where it was first detected, Ebola
Bundibugyo infected approximately 100 people in its 2007/2008 initial outbreak. Ebola viruses
as a whole are incapable of naturally reproducing. By using the host cell to do this function,
Ebola eventually ends up destroying the host cell. At a glance, Ebola is hard to diagnose since it
exhibits symptoms similar to conditions such as malaria, cholera, and hepatitis. People in the first
stages of Ebola will also exhibit influenza like symptoms such as the ones mentioned above on the
first page. Use of a laboratory is required for confident diagnosis using on of these different tests.
Often characterized primarily by the sudden onset of fever, intense weakness, muscle pain,

Analysis Of Carrie Chapman Catt s Speech To Congress
Carrie Chapman Catt was an extraordinary woman and activist promoting the rights of women for
their political freedoms. Moreover, Catt s background as a principal, teacher, superintendent of
schools, and women s activist gave credibility to her being a well educated and refined woman,
providing the ethos of her claim. (History.com) For this reason, she was more than capable of
advocating for all women of our great country in the fight to allow women the right to a say in their
government by giving them the right to vote. Catt argued in her speech to Congress in 1917 that
Woman suffrage was inevitable. (qtd. in Edinmuller) Through applying ethos, presenting logos, and
most importantly emphasizing pathos lead to the success of Catt s impassioned speech to Congress.
The construction of this speech convinced her audience that change is inevitable as well as
necessary for this country to become the great... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Unfortunately, they did not practice what they preached as Catt argued the logic in her claim,
quoting these historical events. Catt provided an example quoted from the Declaration of
Independence, Taxation without representation is tyranny. (US 1776) However, women were being
forced to pay taxes, without having a say in their government, which is a contradiction to all men
are equal. Many years later, Abraham Lincoln stated that ours is a government of the people, by the
people, and for the people. (Lincoln, Gettysburg Address) Again, women are still not included in
this generalized statement of equality. In addition, Woodrow Wilson also made similar
contradictory statements of equality in their wartime. Logically, these leaders spoke of the equality
of men but failed to acknowledge the equality of women to men. Catt arranged these historical
accounts out as the first stage of her argument for women s right to

Reflection Paper In Counseling
Self reflection Paper
Productiveness
The most productive part of the counseling session was when I found myself thinking about how
I left my door unlocked and windows open, which did leave to an awkward pause, however I
regained self awareness and began to discuss how the client and I will discuss his goals in a future
session. The reason I found this to be the most productive was because it pushed me to regain
control in an effective way and demonstrated that counselors makes mistakes to the client, which
could add to the authenticity aspect.
Problem Areas There are several areas of which I need to improve upon. One of the biggest areas
of improvement would include be responding opposed to reacting. For example when the client
stated, I train my dog to go to the bathroom on my neighbor s lawn and I don t have a dog. I
immediately began laughing. I should have paused, then responded with a clarifying question.
Another problem area was, the awkward pauses and loose structure. I believe I had several
awkward pauses throughout the session as a result of overthinking. I should have stated what came
to me naturally instead of worrying about saying it correctly or in a specific order.
Ethics
Ethics appeared in this session when discussing the informed consent. The reason a counselor goes
over informed consent with their client is because the categories within the form can lead to
ethical dilemmas if left unclear. In this session, I felt as though I had gone over each category in
the document. Though with that being said, I feel that next session I will elaborate in a more
concise and efficient manner. In this session, I was a bit unorganized and reiterated a lot of the
same information.
Multicultural Competencies Unfortunately I do not feel that I grew in a multicultural competent
manner. I think that when the client and I have our next session, there will be room to grow
culturally because the focus will be on him, not the informed consent.
Self Advocacy
When the client and I discussed the referral process and areas outside of my scope of practice that I
believe spoke to the self advocacy piece. The client understood that if he was in crisis I could assist
him with calling 911 or provide him with crisis

Political Style Of George Orwell
George Orwell is well known for his writing focusing on political events throughout Europe. His
most popular novels sent warnings about totalitarianism to its readers, leaving that as his mark in
literature. However, a closer look at his writing shows his changing political views based on both
the political movements at the time and Orwell s experiences with those political movements. Eric
Arthur Blair, better known under the pseudonym George Orwell, based his writing on the political
climate during his time. Living from 1903 to 1950, Orwell found himself writing about the ever
changing, politically charged environment around him. As Orwell wrote, background information
must be included because one cannot assess a writer s motives without knowing something of
his early development. His father, who Orwell was not close to, was a minor British official in
the Indian Civil Service, which would later influence his opinion on British imperialism in
Burma. His family was lower middle class, even though they had high social status. They returned
to England, where Orwell went to school at Eton on a scholarship (Baker vii). He was unhappy
during his time at school since his family made much less money than the other boys there. After
Eton, he returned to Burma as a member of the Imperial constabulary. He discovered that he was
hated by the Burmese since he was a symbol of British imperialism, which made him hate the work
itself (viii).
His experiences lead to his writing, Burmese Days, and his return to England to live amongst the
beggars in the East End of London. His experiences both there and in the slums of Paris lead to
Down and Out in Paris and London and The Road to Wigan Pier. The latter ended with harsh
criticisms of the socialist movements of the time. His time in the Spanish Civil War, which
included nearly losing his life at the hands of communists who wanted to suppress their political
opponents, was detailed in Homage to Catalonia and left him with a lifelong dread of communism.
This experience could have been why his next writing, Coming Up for Air, showed a more
conservative side (Baker vii).
Nevertheless, his journalistic writing just a few years later combined patriotic sentiment with the

Essay on Theory and Practice in Post-Colonial Literatures
Theory and Practice in Post Colonial Literatures Introduction More than three quarters of the
people living in the world today have had their lives shaped by the experience of colonialism. It is
easy to see how important this has been in the political and economic spheres, but its general
influence on the perceptual frameworks of contemporary peoples is often less evident. Literature
offers one of the most important ways in which these new perceptions are expressed and it is in
their writing, and through other arts such as painting, sculpture, music, and dance that the day to
day realities experienced by colonized peoples have been most powerfully encoded and so
profoundly influential. What are post colonial... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is because there is a continuity of preoccupations throughout the historical process initiated by
European imperial aggression. We also suggest that it is most appropriate as the term for the new
cross cultural criticism which has emerged in recent years and for the discourse through which this
is constituted. In this sense this book is concerned with the world as it exists during and after the
period of European imperial domination and the effects of this on contemporary literatures. So the
literatures of African countries, Australia, Bangladesh, Canada, Caribbean countries, India,
Malaysia, Malta, New Zealand, Pakistan, Singapore, South Pacific Island countries, and Sri Lanka
are all post colonial literatures. The literature or the USA should also be placed in this category.
Perhaps because of its current position of power, and the neo colonizing role it has played, its post
colonial nature has not been generally recognized. But its relationship with the metropolitan centre
as it evolved over the last two centuries has been paradigmatic for post colonial literatures
everywhere. What each of these literatures has in common beyond their special and distinctive
regional characteristics is that they emerged in their present form out of the experience of
colonization and asserted themselves by foregrounding the tension with the imperial power, and by
emphasizing their differences from the assumptions of the imperial centre. It is this

The Vikings First Training Camp
I woke up the morning of July 30th with a smile on my face. Little did I know, that smile was
going to be one of my last.
The weather was glorious. About 90 degrees, with nothing but sun shine! Not even a cloud in
sight. I jumped out of bed, and made my way to the bathroom down the hall. As I was finishing
with brushing my teeth, I spit in the sink, looked at myself in the mirror with a stern glance and
said, You made it . After all, I was only 2 short hours from making my way to the Minnesota Vikings
first training camp practice of the 2001 NFL season, located near the hotel I was staying in, in

I figured that the heat was getting to me. In my pads, the heat felt as if it was over 110 degrees,
like I was the only one in the desert, and had gone without water for days. In all reality it was only
in the low 90s. I felt so weak after practice. No one said a word after practice either, not even Moss
or Carter. A bit discouraged, I went back to the hotel room and took a nice cold shower and basked
in the cool air conditioning afterwards.
Later in the day, my wife pointed out to me that there was a picture of me in the newspaper,
vomiting. When I saw that picture for the first time my stomach turned. I thought I was going to
throw up again. It was incredibly humiliating and I knew I couldn t let the people who looked up
to me the most see me like that. Not my teammates, my peers, my wife, my son, nobody. It was
pathetic. With that picture out in the media, I was already focused on tomorrow s practice. I was
determined to come back the next day, playing harder than ever, and proving everyone wrong.
The dining area was quieter than normal the morning of July 31st. I think everyone saw the
picture, and pitied me, even felt embarrassed for me. Despite what my teammates thought, their
pity only fed the fire that fueled my motivation, and I was positive that everyone knew that. I
arrived at practice extra early to adapt to the heat. The same heat that beat me to my knees
yesterday, and the same heat that I was going to conquer

Spotting A Liar Rhetorical Analysis
From viewing Pamela Meyers s video about how to spot liars, I have learned several tips that
would help me identify whether a person is lying or not lying. The two main ideas to spotting a
liar is by body language and by speech. These two points are essential in the way a person
expresses themselves, and how they speak for themselves. According to Pamela Meyers, everyone
has lied once before whether they were aware or unaware of it. I agree that every person has lied
once in their life, but I think it depends on the situation that they were put in, which may have been
the cause that made them commit a lie. This video relates to Business Communications since people
are supposed to use a clear sense of expression when communicating with other people through a
professional business situation.
In my opinion, people are easier to be profiled by their usage of vocals depending on their pitch,
grammar, speed, and clarity. Although body language provides visual aid, and a faster depiction
of identifying a person who may or may not be lying, it does not help all the time since body
language can be adjusted or it could be mistaken for a different meaning. In example of this, when I
lie, the only thing that is super obvious and a total ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Duty Of Care On Public Bodies
An explanation will be made on how the current law addresses the imposition of a duty of care on
public bodies. An evaluation will then be made to determine whether the duty of care the police
owe to protect individuals from a known threat should be legally recognised.
The common law duty of care was established in Donoghue v Stevenson [1932] AC 562 (HL) and
refined in Caparo Industries plc v Dickman [1990] 2 AC 605 (HL). Any party including public
authorities may owe a duty of care to another if particular conditions are fulfilled. The Caparo
conditions apply to public bodies in respect of whether it is fair, just and reasonable to impose a
duty of care on their actions.
The fundamental case to address the duty of care imposed on a ... Show more content on

Further to the general negligence position on public bodies, in instances of omissions the general
principle is that there is no duty to act unless a special relationship exists. However, there is an
exception, a duty is owed if proximity is established as demonstrated in Home Office v Dorset
Yacht Co Ltd [1970] UKHL 2.
Lord Bingham did not agree that the policy arguments established in Hill and subsequently
followed in Brooks to be appropriate in the context of Smith. In Smith he attempted to introduce a
liability principle . The principle proposed that where evidence is credible and the threat is specific
and imminent, reasonable steps must be taken to assess such a threat and act where necessary. He
did not agree that adopting the principle would induce defensive practices, neither did he agree that
accepting the principle would detract from the police s primary functions. The liability principle
reflected the content of Article 2 European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR), Right to life.
Following the signing of the ECHR, the United Kingdom introduced the Human Rights Act 1998
(HRA 1998). Under s6(3)(a) HRA 1998, the courts are now considered a public body, therefore no
decisions they make can affect the guaranteed rights of any individual under ECHR. The
introduction of this legislation has resulted in individuals bringing claims for Human Rights

Cool Hand Luke By Stuart Rosenberg
Those inclined to think about religious matters embrace distinctly different images of God such as
in the film Cool Hand Luke Directed by: Stuart Rosenberg, a central component to making the
film what it is, is the subtle use of religious imagery. The way Luke Jackson is presented as a
character, embodies this very likeness to Jesusthrough his actions, speech and posture. The way
Luke starts a bond with the other prisoners is through a boxing match and a poker game. During
the boxing match, Luke gets beaten up by his soon to be right hand Dragline. While playing
poker, he wins the game by bluffing a hand worth nothing and comments that sometimes nothing
can be a real cool hand and also during the poker game is when he attained his nick name Cool
Hand Luke . During his sentence in jail, Luke s family came to visit him so that he could say
good bye to his mother because she was not breathing to well on the account that she smoked a
lot and developed this horrible cough in which she and her family realized that she might not
last until Luke got out of jail. After his mother visits, Luke becomes more optimistic about his
situation and because of this, the other prisoners begin to idolize him. This is where we start
receiving subtle images of Jesus and the 12 disciples because of the way that they all began to
follow him and be his support group. Such as the disciples were to Jesus. One day while working
on the road to Luke s leadership is truly shown, he leads the group

For Gay Marriage
Expository Writing
Analyzing a Text #2
Molly O Brien In the Boston Globe newspaper editorial For Gay Marriage the editors argue that
gay marriage should be legalized. Throughout the article the Globe Editors mention the expanding
circle of rights, the circle includes the civil rights movement, gender equality, rights for the
disabled, 18 year olds to vote, single mothers and adoptive parents. It is apparent that the right for
gay marriage should occur ( Globe A18).These advances have occurred with the help of court
cases. The 1967 supreme court case and Loving V. Virginia Court rulings ruled that the ban on
interracial marriage was unconstitutional ( Globe A18). Along with the court precedents The
Globe uses Hillary Goodridge as an example when she was unable to see her newly born
daughter in the hospital because she was not married to her partner of 15 years. (A18). The
Editors discuss opposing reasons why gay marriage should not be legalized by the Massachusetts
Attorney General. One argument the attorney general makes is that marriage is, ...A social
institution designed to promote child bearing and rearing (A18). The Globe the refutes this
statement because same sex couples are not denied the right to adopt as well as they do the
everyday things an opposite sex couple would do (A18). In the Boston Globe article editors use
court precedents and emotional stories to argue that gay marriage should be legalized. One form of
evidence the Globe uses to support that gay

Smirnov Vodka Empire in The King of Vodka
Although the King of Vodka concerns itself with a different time period and a distant land, the
history of founding and eventual disintegration of the Smirnov Vodka Empire seems resonant in
today s business environment. The famous brand was built in one of the most tumultuous periods
in Russian history, yet the founder had struggled with many of the same business problems we see
today.
In 1831, Pyotr A. Smirnov was born to illiterate Russian serfs in a village so remote that walking at
night required clanking metal sticks together to scare off the wolves hidden in the forest. Smirnov
spent his childhood during one of Russia s worst cholera epidemics. However, vodka was his ticket
out of this peasant life. Settling in Moscow during the reforms that began with emancipation, his
genius grassroots marketing popularized his products and established his brand. His life became
one of privilege. His ascent would have continued uninterrupted had it not been for a series of
devastating labor strikes, social uprisings, and a government imposed vodka monopoly. Ultimately,
the Smirnov lost it all, as victims of the Bolshevik revolution and the chaos it unleashed.
Fortunately for Smirnov, his family was ambitious. The success of uncle Grigoriy who made
enough money to buy his own freedom inspired a young Pyotr to move to Moscow and pursue his
own liberation. It was from Grigoriy that Pyotr was inducted into the world of entrepreneurship.

cardio room, I defined my goals before starting my workouts. It is important to define one s goals
so that one is sure to work towards and meet the given goals. My cardio goal was high intensity
and my strength goal was toning. In order to work towards these goals, I constructed workouts that
would help tone muscles and encourage high intensity cardio performance. To achieve high
intensity cardio exercises, I aimed to and succeeded in to keeping my heart rate above 150.

principle stands for Frequency, Intensity, Time, and Type. Frequency refers to how often a
person participates in a given activity. While the cardio schedule allowed us to workout every
other school day, weekends interfered with this schedule. Overall, the frequency of this workout
was based on a two day cycle. Also, I increased the frequency by increasing the numbers of sets I
completed for each workout every other week. By adding more sets, I participated in the activity
during a greater length of time and therefore increased the frequency. Intensity refers to the weight
or incline of a workout, how hard one has to work during a given exercise. To make use of the
Intensity principle, I increased the weight of each strength training activity during every other
day. In terms of the cardio training exercises, between the first and second day as well as the
third and fourth day, I focused on increasing my heart rate. Between the second and third day and
fourth and fifth day, I increased the intensity of the exercises by running a further distance than I
had the day before. The first T in F.I.T.T. stands for Time. To increase the time of my strength
training exercises, I increased the number of sets I completed between day one and two and day
three and four. With a greater number of sets, a longer amount of time was spent on the given
exercise. Also, during each day in the cardio room I learned how to better manage my time and use
it to the best of my ability,

Pros And Cons Of Birth Control
traception
Contraception is used to prevent pregnancy. The use of condoms can prevent pregnancy and protect
against STDs. Other protective barriers, such as dental dams, are recommended for oral sex and
analingus. Some sexually transmitted infections, such as genital warts and genital herpes can be
spread through skin to skin contact, not just penetrative sex. For those in committed relationships
who seek only to prevent pregnancy, there are many forms of birth control, and a healthcare
provider can discuss options and detail what is the ideal form of birth control. There is no single
universal method that works for everyone.
According to Michael McGee, MEd, a certified sexual health educator and adjunct professor at
Montclair State University in Montclair, New Jersey, sexual health is intimately related to
reproduction. Birth control choices to prevent pregnancy and the steps couples need to take to have
a healthy pregnancy are all aspects of sexual health.
Some factors a qualified physician will take into consideration when discussing options are:
Patient s sexual activity
Previously used birth control methods
Existing medical conditions
Lifestyle and likelihood of taking a daily pill on schedule
Use of tobacco products
Existence of menstrual migraines
Menstrual flow
Personal and family history of blood clots
Existence or history of breast cancer
Family history of ovarian cancer
History of premenstrual syndrome

Lord Of The Flies Simon Character Analysis
In the novel, Lord of the flies, written by William Golding illustrates symbolism through the life of
the boys; therefore we have simon s isolation and piggy s intelligence and jacks chaos.
Body 1 simons isolation
Simon, one of the main characters because of who he is and his feelings toward the whole thing.
He becomes isolated which is important because it shows how he feels. Simon is symbolized as
things such as depression and loneliness which is very important, in the book because there is one
point where simon says to the boys on the beach, which means that he thought about it while the
others did not think about it. He thought about the problem and the things that the boys did he
becomes the beast himself. The story states, maybe we are the beast (Golding). This shows that
simon has thought about it and is thinking about it more as he moves forward and ends up putting
on the pig to show everyone how he feels but ends up getting killed. Simon shut people out because
he was torn between doing the right thing and not doing the right thing. He understands that if he
just goes away that he won t have to be torn. Which shows that he would rather step back and think
and look then to just jump to conclusions. Simon is mature for doing what he did.
This is very important because it shows that people that you say you can trust you can t and they
stab you in the back. Simon is a very important person in the book and always will be. He

Political Equality In Martin Luther King s I Have A Dream
This political representation and the economic equality that King advocates for manifest into a
third form of equality. As the African American community would begin to gain capital to build a
solid infrastructure for their communities or begin the transition and facilitated diffusion into
areas with affluence and or resources by way of legislation mandating the integration of public
facilities, they would have more education, opportunity to jobs, and access to an entire race of
people for love so that it was no longer prohibited. This equality is social equality, or the premise
of equity in the public such as in love or education.
This equality would revolutionize the times as, again, there was a specific subordination associated
with African Americancommunities associated with them being inhuman as a justification for the
slave trade. The process of achieving social equality not only meant that this idea of African
Americans as inhuman and subordinate had to be totally discredited as they could then be equals
with Caucasian populations. It also meant that the African American society had the opportunity of
social mobility whether it be educational status, fiscal class, or both. This threatened the elitism of
the majority Caucasian population. It was also revolutionary because the process of desegregation
would then mean that African Americans would be able to enter the same neighborhoods as the
Caucasian population.

How Did The Wright Brothers Change The World
How the First Flight by The Wright Brothers Changed the World How did the first flight made by
the Wright brothers change the world? Few inventions have changed the world as dramatically as
the Wright brothers did, with their creation of the first aircraft. With the construction of an artifact
capable of flying just for a few seconds, the Wright brothers began a new era; the era of the
aviation around the world, thus the era that would revolutionary change people s lives. In fact, the
repercussion of the first flight into the world of aviation has mainly brought benefits to mankind
such as: its use in airlines, in the military, and as utility in general. One of the most important
effects that occurred because of the development of what the Wright brothers started many years
ago, is known today as Civil Aviation. Civil Aviation, has allowed people to easily expand their
lives into the world. Domestic and international tourism increased dramatically after its invention
because quicker means of transport enabled people to arrive to their final destinations much faster
than before. Also, throughout its development, job opportunities have increased with the emerge of

to exercise Law Enforcement and Cost Guard services. The Government implemented aviation as a

Trunk Movement Analysis
In relation to trunk movement and this week s forum, I chose to write about the sit up. The sit up is
commonly implemented to tone and strengthen the abdominal muscles as an endurance training
exercise. Within the exercise, you are strengthening the rectus abdominus along with engaging the
internal and external obliques. Your rectus abdominis attaches to ribs 5 through 7 and starts at
your pubic bone while stretching, in a straight line, upwards to your ribs. It is activated every time
your ribs are brought towards your thighs. It is also accountable for guiding the tilt of your pelvis
and the curvature of your lower spine. Your obliques, on the other hand, consist of the lateral
abdominal muscles and promote flexion, rotation and bending of the spine Nevertheless, because of
the sit ups wide range of motion, additional muscles (assisting muscles) consist of the rectus
femoris, iliopsoas, sartorius, and tensor fasciae latae, and obliques.... Show more content on

Your iliopsoas is attached to your femur, crosses your hips, and attaches to the lower ribs. This
muscle promotes flexing of the hip and spine rotation. Your sartorius runs diagonally across the
front of your thigh and is a long, narrow muscle which assists with both bending of the hip and
knee. Your tensor fascia latae is a thin muscle that runs from the pelvis to the tibia and assists
with hip flexion as well as leg abduction. While both the primary and secondary muscles play a
large role in the overall movement, it could not be performed properly without the stabilizing
muscles. This muscle involves the tibialis anterior, which runs from the top of your shin bone
down to your first metatarsal, (big toe) and helps you flex your ankle. As you come into a sitting
position, slight tension is along the front of the legs. This is your tibialis anterior becoming
engaged in order to keep your ankle

The Moral Imperative Of William Shakespeare s Hamlet
Self Reflection To thine own self be true, and it must follow, as the night the day, thou cans t not
be false to any man. Shakespeare, Hamlet. To live an authentic way of life, you must know
yourself and act accordingly. This is the moral imperative throughout the history of the study of
human behavior. Existentialist believed that authenticity is critically important in understanding
well being and freedom from psychopathology. The quote from William Shakespeare means that
one must be honest in his ways and relations. When we are being inauthentic, we are not
congruent with our values, preferences, and abilities. We tend to feel out of sync even things
seem to be right or ideal. Our actions and feelings are not connected. We show people around us
such as relatives, friends, neighbors, and co workers that we are living the perfect life. We are
great actors, living the fake life. Authenticity is defined the unimpeded operation of one s true or
core self in ones daily enterprise . To be authentic requires awareness and knowledge about own self.
People who are authentic have a clear understanding about their strength and weaknesses. They are
accountable. They are connected to their own values and desires and act appropriately in ways that
are consistent with their qualities. Being Authentic means being real and genuine. It allows us to
connect deeply with others because it requires us to be transparent and vulnerable. Authenticity is
important because it liberates us from

My Goals To Become An Elementary School Teacher
Trip to College It has been my dream since Elementary School to become an Elementary School
teacher. The decision to attend college has not always been an easy decision. I have many goals to
obtain my college degree. I have had many conversations about attending college. Some
conversations being very helpful and persuasive, some being very negative and nerve wrecking.
The schoolthat I chose to attend in the end was Alabama State University. I promised myself that
this school will make me the best teacher since I chose my favorite teacher. Choosing my career,
that was not entirely easy. Back in Elementary School, I had a couple of teachers that were very
good to me. They are who began to make my mind think and wonder about if this job would make
a good career for me. It was not only my Elementary School teachers who helped convince me.
There were some middle schoolteachers and a couple high schoolteachers who persuaded me.
These teachers taught me with passion in their hearts. There was nothing but patience and love in
their teaching. They taught me the different ways you can teach and get the lesson across to
your students. I have kept their ways of teaching in mind for the days when it is time to work
towards my degree. Watching my different teachers over the years have given me different
reasons to want this career. Becoming what I wanted to be was the main goal. The goal was
always to become what I wanted to no matter what it took. Being a teacher, I knew would be a

The Thane Of Cawdor By Stefan Reread
The Thane of Cawdor, Stefan reread the black ink that stained words onto the sandy brown
paper that had been worn from old age. He pushed back from his slouched position that had his
back aching due to tense muscles in his back from stress. He didn t know what was right or
wrong anymore. A red blotch harboured his cheek where he had rested his head on his coarse
hand. Growing irritated at his own behaviour, the worrying, anxiety and confusion, he stood
abruptly out of his wooden desk chair, the legs scraping against the mahogany floor boards. A
sound that resembled an animalist growl, gurgled at the back of his throat. He snatched the
paper up from the office desk and it crumpled in his tightening fist. He took his anger out on the
creaky floorboards as he stomped around his castle. * Stefan s wife, Katherine peeked around
the corner at her husband as he opened the door to the attic harshly. Frowning, Kathrine scurried
into his office to look through his stuff as she was suspicious of her husband s behaviour. She
feared the worst. When she made it into his office, she heaved a sigh leaning against the door that
she had closed very quietly. Her curly dark brown hair cascaded around her oval face that was
etched with uneasiness. Her exquisite chocolate swirled eyes, darted around the room as if she
were expecting something, or someone to pop out and hurt her. A week ago Kathrine questioned
her husband about his change of behaviour. She hadn t expected him to lash out on

Economic Changes In The South Essay
There were many changes to the South after a long and brutal Civil War. The most significant of
these, was the change to the overall economic system of the South. After Slavery and the cotton
industry was shattered, the South was left with figuring out how to fix a once rich land founded on
slavery. The first example of economic change in the South was in how African Americans began to
support themselves economically. Plantations in the South were virtually workerless after African
Americans were emancipated. Not only that, they were left economically in debt from the
destruction caused by the Civil War. This left the Plantation owners at a loss of ability to function
and since most African Americans didn t want to go back to work for plantation owners, the Black
Codes were created. The... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sharecropping involved a landlord giving land for tenants to farm for a share of the crop.
Tenants rented this land and were also given supplies by their landlord such as seed, farming
equipment and fertilizer. Of course, these supplies were also rented and often the only person
the tenant was allowed to sell their crop to, was their landlord. The landlord decided what prices
were available to the tenant and how much things cost. Often crops were unpredictable and
landlords were very unfair with their prices. This would leave the tenants in debt that would
carry over year after year. This, in a way, tied the tenants to the land so that they could never
leave the landlord and left them in a constant state of crippling poverty. According to PBS.com,
two thirds of all sharecroppers were white and only one third were black. This of course has room
for landlords, but this also implies that some sharecroppers were white citizens left in complete
poverty after the Civil War. Overall, the biggest changes in the south were clearly economic and did
not only affect the African American population, but the European population as

cytosine and thymine are pyrimidine bases. A purine must pair with a pyrimidine, a purine can t

Regulation And Economic Growth Essay
THE IMPACT OF REGULATION ON ECONOMIC GROWTH IN DEVELOPING COUNTRIES:
A CROSS COUNTRY ANALYSIS
1
ABSTRACT
The role of an effective regulatory regime in promoting economic growth and development has
generated considerable interest among researchers and practitioners in recent years. In particular,
building effective regulatory structures in developing countries is not simply an issue of the
technical design of the most appropriate regulatory instruments, it is also concerned with the quality
of supporting regulatory institutions and capacity. This paper explores the role of state regulation
using an econometric model of the impact of regulation on growth. The results based on two
different techniques of estimation suggest a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

the debate on the role of regulation in economic growth, before turning to regulatory measures and
proxies for the quality of regulation. In section 3 the models used are presented. Section 4 deals
with a descriptive analysis of the data and reports the

LITERATURE REVIEW (a) Regulation Theory
The theory of economic regulation developed from the nineteenth century and the literature is
now vast (for recent reviews, see Laffont and Tirole, 1993, 2000; Levy and Spiller, 1994; Newbery,
1999). The case for economic regulation is premised on the existence of
significant market failure resulting from economies of scale and scope in production, from
information imperfections in market transactions, from the existence of incomplete markets and
externalities, and from resulting income and wealth distribution effects. It has been suggested that
market failures may be more pronounced, and therefore the case for public regulation is stronger, in
developing countries (Stiglitz 1998). More recent theoretical contributions to the regulation
literature have provided a model of regulation for network industries that recognises the

  • 2. Vampires And Pop Culture We have been living in the era of vampires and any other kinds of monsters for a while now. Vampires have always been relatable creatures, which allows fans to connect with vampire characters. They represent the attraction towards being a vampire and having eternal life and are presented to popular culture in a way that is attractive and relatable to the evolution of vampires (Del Toro and Hogan 37). Over the past years, vampires have jumped in popularity and pop culture appeal, taking over our television sets, the movie theaters and box offices and books from around the world. Around 2010, Hollywood released four vampirefilms along with a bunch of vampire DVD s, and the immensely popular television series like the vampire diaries and true blood continued to air due to how popular those shows are. One monster I d like to put as an example would be vampires Blood Thirsty: Why are Vampires Ruling Pop Culture? by Lindsay Bradshaw. They are the latest trends to appear on pop culture`s radar, but this is not the first time its caught the publics eye. Vampires have been a constant presence in the literature and film world since the 1897`s publication of Bram Stoker`s Dracula, arguably the best vampire text of all time. The idea that vampires exist across the globe has been a subject of folk tale, superstition, and myth throughout the history of man. Even before the famous Dracula, the word vampires was originated in eastern European Folklore, terrorizing small communities in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. George Orwell s 1984 And World War II Broken Record World War II was the most disastrous war to date. When Hitler invaded other territories, the leaders of those countries succumbed to Hitler s rising power. As a result, millions of people died. In George Orwell s 1984, similar events occurred. In fact, 1984 and World War II correlate well for the following reasons: countries switched sides, casualties were high, battles were fought in a variety of areas, and concentration camps existed. During the World War II era, allegiances fluctuated depending on needs and circumstances. Although countries such as England, the United States, and Canada consistently fought with the Allies, the USSR initially signed a treaty with Germany. Only once Hitler moved against the USSR did it join the Allies. This kind of change in allegiance is similar to one that occurred in Orwell s 1984. Initially citizens of Oceania were told that the enemy was Eastasia. In fact, Jones, Aaron, and Rutherford were accused of spying for Eastasia. Later in the novel, Oceania and Eastasia joined forces against Eurasia. Oceania even rewrote all of the newspapers, periodicals, textbooks, novels, and magazines so that history would show Eurasia as the enemy and Eastasia the ally. 1984 relates well to the Soviet Unions position in World War II because of the continuous change of sides. During World War II, many people died on both sides. The numbers do not lie World War 2 was one of the largest conflicts in recorded history with no corner of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Secret Sharer Symbolism Essay The novella, The Secret Sharer, by Joseph Conrad contains many great examples of symbolism, strong and influential thematic elements, and tones of mystery and loneliness. From the beginning of the story, the narrator uses the setting to explain the situation. The narrator illustrates a picture of a captain far away from home with the crew that s not appropriately fond of him. This separation gives the reader an idea of how lonely he is on the ship. The crew dislikes him and feels unsafe around him, this makes it hard for the captain to build a sense of trust and have strong friendships. The crew is very hesitant to do what the captain says to do. The captain is properly stressed by his surroundings, the crew, making his judgment very dicey. The silence in the book is used to create a sense of suspense. The suspense adds to the idea of the boat being creepy and lonely. The author expects the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Near the end of the book, the narrator gives Leggatt his captain s hat as a symbol of respect and brotherly love at the beginning. Leggat loses the hat after diving into the water in the middle of the night. The captain sees the hat and uses the hat to see the direction in which the boat was moving. And now, behold, it was saving the ship, by serving me for a mark to help out the ignorance of my strangeness. Captain. The hat given to Leggatt by the captain was used to save the ship. This saves the captain s butt, much like he did for Leggatt earlier in the book. The cabin used for hiding Leggatt symbolizes the distant relationship that the captain has with his entire crew. The reader can infer that the narrator spends a lot of time in his cabin because he is able to describe the cabin in explicit detail. This would make sense because he is separate from his crew in the cabin. this is symbolic of him being distant from his crew for a long time, not being able to make relationships with his ... An Analysis of George Bataille s The Story of the Eye ...awareness of the impossibility opens consciousness to all that is possible for it to think. In this gathering place, where violence is rife, at the boundary of that which escapes cohesion, he who reflects within cohesion realizes that there is no longer any room for him (Theory of Religion 10). When Georges Bataille first published The Story of the Eye in 1928, anonymously and in a limited edition of 134 copies (Lechte 118), he had been at the BibliothГЁque Nationale in the department of numismatics for nearly six years. It executes Bataille s need to express through his writings what could not be contained by the cultural system within which he lived and worked, and it expresses his need to recognize the existence of what the system cannot contain the vision of that other eye out of which he looks at the world. Thus rather than dismiss this text as juvenile or adolescent writing, readers should be aware of it as an early declaration of identity formation, one affected by actual events in his life and, although overwhelmingly privileging his sexual obsessions, one which contains nevertheless the core of his thinking. In Bataille s profession of librarianship, cataloging or classification of material becomes obsessive to the extent that every item within a collection must have a named place or it cannot have a place in the collection, for only by being inserted into a named placed within a system can an object be curated or cared for. Bataille captures the intention of this systematizing in his Documents essay on The Use Value of D.A.F. de Sade when he writes: the work of philosophy as well as science or common sense ...has always had as its goal the establishment of the homogeneity of the world [through]...the identification of all the elements of which the world is composed (Visions 96). To know or identify an object such as a coin restricts the coin to its place within the organization of numismatics. The operation reduces knowledge to the ability to ... • 8. Aldrige Beer ALRIDGE BREWING COMPANY Craft Brewing Goes Public In August 1995, Paul Shipman, the CEO of Alridge Brewing (AB) prepared himself to enter uncharted territory. A craft brewing operation had never before been taken public in the United States, and he and his management team were about to do just that. Sure, there were massive large batch breweries like Anheuser Busch and Miller Brewing Company that were profitable, publicly traded firms but there was something different about Alridge: it embodied the ethos and grassroots beginnings of the microbrew movement, and Shipman was confident that widespread market demand for craft beer was set to explode. He and the team had steadily developed their premium quality handmade ales for nearly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They also bought and cleaned up an old transmission shop in Seattle, and McElevey painstakingly reconstructed a recycled brewery that he located and had shipped from Germany. Many test batches and recipes later, the trio were happy with their first product and planned a grand opening on August 11, 1982 which was attended by both the mayor of Seattle and the governor of Washington State.4 Their marketing strategy was primarily word of mouth; they began their marketing campaign by reaching out to local restaurants, bars and brewpubs to carry kegs of their beer, which was delivered in early years by a single truck.5 3Development of a Distinctive Beverage UVA S AB beer was brewed by a special system that involved adding fresh hops to freshly milled grain, fermenting with proprietary yeast in a temperature controlled vat and employing a filtration process. The bottled beer was not exposed to the air until it was opened by the consumer and was hand dated for peak consumption within 14 days. AB s attention to the highest quality, traditional European brewing methods and locally sourced ingredients helped them to build a strong local reputation and loyal consumer following. • 9. German Prehistory Sparknotes Many of the ideas that served as a basis for the Nazi party s interpretation of the archaeological record can be attributed to the work done by a German pre historian named Gustaf Kossinna. Kossinna played a major role in the development of German prehistory. Following their defeat in 1918 at the end of World War Iand the signing of the Treaty of Versailles, the feeling of national pride had fled from many of the individuals in Germany. Kossinna, sought to reignite the feeling of German pride under the grounds that Germany was part of a superior Arian race. In emphasis of this belief, he dedicated his book German Prehistory: a Pre eminently National Discipline; To the German people, as a building block in the reconstruction of the externally as well as internally disintegrated fatherland (cited by Arnold 1992: 32).... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One aspect that made his book so appealing is the fact that he claims German responsibility for almost all major technologic breakthroughs in western history. (Figure 1) He based much of his research finding on the interpretation of prehistoric symbols that were found on pottery and painted on cave walls. Interpreted as being an early form of writing, many of these symbols would later be incorporated into the Nazi party. Further, his theory on Arian expansion in which he mapped the spread of cultural and technological ideas out of Germany would lead to numerous excavations in occupied ... • 10. Women In The Fifth Letter Heloise In the fifth letter Heloise refers to women as the weaker sex. Regardless of whether or not she believed that herself, that was the common thought of the Middle Ages. It was believed that the female mind was inadequately equipped, compared to that of a males, and it was frowned upon for a womanto show that she might be more intelligent than any male. According to Williams and Echols, women physicians were often charged as witches by male physicians or tangled up in legal issues because they competed with the males. • 11. Pica And Rumination Research Paper What exactly are pica and rumination disorder? Pica is the act of eating items that are non nutritive, in other words they have little to no nutritional value to the human body. Things that could be eaten include glass, couch cushions, chalk, glue, just about anything that normally would not be considered to be taken into the body. This can happen because of trying to avoid high calorie items foods and the desire for weight loss. Rumination disorder is when someone(typically children) have swallowed food and spit it back up and begin chewing it again. This behavior does not happen because of medical reasons either. In the study, they used 149 females that had eating disorders and 100 men and women that were considered obese. There were few reports of eating non edible objects. Barely anyone at from either group met the criteria for pica. 7.4% of the people experienced rumination. The prevalence is still unknown. The females with eating disorders had 93.8% of the patients had the same diagnosis. The males and females from the other place had 95% of the patients had the same diagnosis. These numbers are not far apart which could mean they are pretty closely related and accurate, but this is not enough evidence to make the prevalence known. ... The pathos that Mock uses also leads to imagery because she is showing the audience how people today view Christmas as a season with Frosty the snowman and Rudolph instead of it being viewed as the birth of Christ. As Mock explains that the supreme court decided that the government could place Christian symbols on buildings for holiday purposes she uses irony to point out her views on this. Mock wonders, why such government displays are necessary asks do Christians really need baby Jesus on the courthouse steps to remind them of his birth? This is irony because she is informing the audience of why it is necessary for Christianity symbols to be displayed everywhere when Christians should already be celebrating the birth of Jesus and talk about it among their family. Irony is used to inform the audience that the state and church should be separated because there is no point in the government wasting money to show that they support the Christmas season. • 17. Chronicle Of A Death Foretold Analysis Chronicle of a Death Foretold: Termination Through Tradition Tradition typically serves as the heart of societal and cultural health. In the case of Gabriel GarcГa MГЎrquez s novella Chronicle of a Death Foretold, this could not be further from the truth. The story depicts a scandal between a scantily married woman named Angela Vicario who reveals to her groom Bayardo San RomГЎn that she has already been deflowered. Following the tradition in this town, she is returned to her mother for a beating. Angela s twin brothers are told that the culprit is Santiago Nasar, a rich townsman, and the brothers, again following the rules of the town, set out to murder him. Although the brothers do not want to complete the task, the people who know about the plan, namely everyone in the town, fails to intervene. MГЎrquez s judgement about harmful traditions slowly exposes itself through the careful and disordered irony of the text to show how a ritualized society defaces the purpose of honor. Soon after Bayardo and Angela s wedding, the bishop, an important figure to the town, seemingly makes an appearance: What happened, according to her, was that the boat whistle let off a shower of compressed steam as it passed by the docks, and it soaked those who were closest to the edge. It was a fleeting illusion: the bishop began to make the sign of the cross in the air opposite the crowd on the pier, and he kept on doing it mechanically afterwards, without malice or inspiration, until the boat ... • 19. Procedure Of Completing The Tender Once the contracting company has been selected through a single or two stage tender. The procedure of completing the tender and actually getting the project is the next step. Tender process An invitation to tender is a formal invitation to make an offer for the project There are several parts to form a tender and to put in a bid to the client. In this section each part of the tender process would be explained in detail. When it comes to tendering for a bid, it is important to understand that the different bidders that have been invited to bid are submitting a contract, explaining why they would be perfect for the project. The first information for a design and build tender would be defining the contract, giving details of timescales for commencement and completion. By defining the contract, the company the tender is sent to, will instantly know what the contract is about and have a brief idea of how they are putting in a bid for it. When it comes to construction, timescale is very important. If a project is delayed or starts late, the client is losing out on money and on a big project or on any project, you want to save as much money as possible but still have the best result. So by giving details for the commencement and completion of the project gives the client an idea when it would be done by and they can decide if that is in the same timescale they d want the project done by. After defining the contract, the contract conditions follow. The contract conditions ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

For real time requirements of multimedia applications faster computations need to be performed. To fulfill such requirements of video compression a parallel computational algorithm can be implemented. In this thesis, the parallelism of multi core architecture was exploited using block matching algorithm. The test implementation of the algorithm was done on MATLAB. The parallel model was designed using OpenMP and its implementation was tested on multi core architectures. The parallel implementation divides a current frame into independent macro blocks and each block is allotted to OpenMP section which then assigns it to a thread for performing the computations. The result of the implementation shows speedier computations with effective utilization of multi cores. This work suggests a promising approach which can further be developed and exploited. Apart from law and order there were many other problems in mining towns. The majority of the population were males and built their own cabins, this meant they were probably not very good or safe. Also they did there own cooking, which probably wasn t the best diet and probably got food poisoning often. There was an epidemic of typhoid in fall and early winter but there were no deaths, which show there were healthy and strong. The houses had no drains and most houses were badly kept so the houses were most likely dirty. The problems of law and order in early western towns can be studied using the sources these show lots of lawlessness in towns and murdering. One source shows a bank robbery, this is proof that the towns did not have any policing. The source shows also that a few vigilantes on the scene, further proof that the towns were lawless. Vigilantes were present because of the lack of law that there was in the towns. They felt it necessary that law had to be imposed on the town other wise it could fall apart. Another source shows a notice from vigilantes pinned to a man hung for murder. This is useful because it shows the vigilantes taken the law into there own hands. It also states the reasons for the vigilantes forming, it tells us that life and security is too sacred to not be protected so they will resort to these means even if it means killing ... At the time Virginia Woolf wrote The Years and Three Guineas, there were many differences between men and women, one of which was education. Most women were not educated, which prevented them from entering into agency. Women allowed themselves to be played by history. In order for them to change a worldthat was dominated by men, women needed to refuse what history said was their essence, and rather, use that essence to create critical ways of being in the world. Women were wives, mothers, and daughters, and without them, the state would collapse and fall to pieces, without whose work your sons, Sir, would cease to exist, (Three Guineas 54). Although this was unjust, men were not entirely at fault. Married men got paid twice that of a bachelor. Half of men s salary belonged to their wives, but women had little access to their husband s salary. We may assume that the wife of an educated man has as much money to spend, (Three Guineas 55). Then why, didn t women spend that money on pleasures that she enjoyed? Because men made the money, women allowed them to decide how it should be spent. (Kivi). The two first subtypes of Zaire and Sudan, usually occur simultaneously when an outbreak happens. The Ivory Coast subtype originated from CГґte d Ivoire s Tai forests in Africa. Initially contained to chimpanzees, humans soon got this subtype of Ebola due to improper containment procedures during autopsies of the chimps. • 29. Reflection Paper In Counseling Self reflection Paper Productiveness The most productive part of the counseling session was when I found myself thinking about how I left my door unlocked and windows open, which did leave to an awkward pause, however I regained self awareness and began to discuss how the client and I will discuss his goals in a future session. The reason I found this to be the most productive was because it pushed me to regain control in an effective way and demonstrated that counselors makes mistakes to the client, which could add to the authenticity aspect. Problem Areas There are several areas of which I need to improve upon. One of the biggest areas of improvement would include be responding opposed to reacting. For example when the client stated, I train my dog to go to the bathroom on my neighbor s lawn and I don t have a dog. I immediately began laughing. I should have paused, then responded with a clarifying question. Another problem area was, the awkward pauses and loose structure. I believe I had several awkward pauses throughout the session as a result of overthinking. I should have stated what came to me naturally instead of worrying about saying it correctly or in a specific order. Ethics Ethics appeared in this session when discussing the informed consent. The reason a counselor goes over informed consent with their client is because the categories within the form can lead to ethical dilemmas if left unclear. In this session, I felt as though I had gone over each category in the document. Though with that being said, I feel that next session I will elaborate in a more concise and efficient manner. In this session, I was a bit unorganized and reiterated a lot of the same information. Multicultural Competencies Unfortunately I do not feel that I grew in a multicultural competent manner. I think that when the client and I have our next session, there will be room to grow culturally because the focus will be on him, not the informed consent. Self Advocacy When the client and I discussed the referral process and areas outside of my scope of practice that I believe spoke to the self advocacy piece. • 30. Political Style Of George Orwell George Orwell is well known for his writing focusing on political events throughout Europe. His most popular novels sent warnings about totalitarianism to its readers, leaving that as his mark in literature. However, a closer look at his writing shows his changing political views based on both the political movements at the time and Orwell s experiences with those political movements. Eric Arthur Blair, better known under the pseudonym George Orwell, based his writing on the political climate during his time. Living from 1903 to 1950, Orwell found himself writing about the ever changing, politically charged environment around him. As Orwell wrote, background information must be included because one cannot assess a writer s motives without knowing something of his early development. His father, who Orwell was not close to, was a minor British official in the Indian Civil Service, which would later influence his opinion on British imperialism in Burma. His family was lower middle class, even though they had high social status. They returned to England, where Orwell went to school at Eton on a scholarship (Baker vii). He was unhappy during his time at school since his family made much less money than the other boys there. After Eton, he returned to Burma as a member of the Imperial constabulary. He discovered that he was hated by the Burmese since he was a symbol of British imperialism, which made him hate the work itself (viii). His experiences lead to his writing, Burmese Days, and his return to England to live amongst the beggars in the East End of London. His experiences both there and in the slums of Paris lead to Down and Out in Paris and London and The Road to Wigan Pier. The latter ended with harsh criticisms of the socialist movements of the time. His time in the Spanish Civil War, which included nearly losing his life at the hands of communists who wanted to suppress their political opponents, was detailed in Homage to Catalonia and left him with a lifelong dread of communism. This experience could have been why his next writing, Coming Up for Air, showed a more conservative side (Baker vii). Essay on Theory and Practice in Post-Colonial Literatures Theory and Practice in Post Colonial Literatures Introduction More than three quarters of the people living in the world today have had their lives shaped by the experience of colonialism. It is easy to see how important this has been in the political and economic spheres, but its general influence on the perceptual frameworks of contemporary peoples is often less evident. Literature offers one of the most important ways in which these new perceptions are expressed and it is in their writing, and through other arts such as painting, sculpture, music, and dance that the day to day realities experienced by colonized peoples have been most powerfully encoded and so profoundly influential. What are post colonial... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is because there is a continuity of preoccupations throughout the historical process initiated by European imperial aggression. We also suggest that it is most appropriate as the term for the new cross cultural criticism which has emerged in recent years and for the discourse through which this is constituted. In this sense this book is concerned with the world as it exists during and after the period of European imperial domination and the effects of this on contemporary literatures. So the literatures of African countries, Australia, Bangladesh, Canada, Caribbean countries, India, Malaysia, Malta, New Zealand, Pakistan, Singapore, South Pacific Island countries, and Sri Lanka are all post colonial literatures. The literature or the USA should also be placed in this category. Perhaps because of its current position of power, and the neo colonizing role it has played, its post colonial nature has not been generally recognized. But its relationship with the metropolitan centre as it evolved over the last two centuries has been paradigmatic for post colonial literatures everywhere. What each of these literatures has in common beyond their special and distinctive regional characteristics is that they emerged in their present form out of the experience of colonization and asserted themselves by foregrounding the tension with the imperial power, and by emphasizing their differences from the assumptions of the imperial centre. • 33. Spotting A Liar Rhetorical Analysis From viewing Pamela Meyers s video about how to spot liars, I have learned several tips that would help me identify whether a person is lying or not lying. The two main ideas to spotting a liar is by body language and by speech. These two points are essential in the way a person expresses themselves, and how they speak for themselves. According to Pamela Meyers, everyone has lied once before whether they were aware or unaware of it. I agree that every person has lied once in their life, but I think it depends on the situation that they were put in, which may have been the cause that made them commit a lie. This video relates to Business Communications since people are supposed to use a clear sense of expression when communicating with other people through a professional business situation. In my opinion, people are easier to be profiled by their usage of vocals depending on their pitch, grammar, speed, and clarity. Although body language provides visual aid, and a faster depiction of identifying a person who may or may not be lying, it does not help all the time since body language can be adjusted or it could be mistaken for a different meaning. The common law duty of care was established in Donoghue v Stevenson [1932] AC 562 (HL) and refined in Caparo Industries plc v Dickman [1990] 2 AC 605 (HL). Any party including public authorities may owe a duty of care to another if particular conditions are fulfilled. Further to the general negligence position on public bodies, in instances of omissions the general principle is that there is no duty to act unless a special relationship exists. However, there is an exception, a duty is owed if proximity is established as demonstrated in Home Office v Dorset Yacht Co Ltd [1970] UKHL 2. Lord Bingham did not agree that the policy arguments established in Hill and subsequently followed in Brooks to be appropriate in the context of Smith. In Smith he attempted to introduce a liability principle . The principle proposed that where evidence is credible and the threat is specific and imminent, reasonable steps must be taken to assess such a threat and act where necessary. He did not agree that adopting the principle would induce defensive practices, neither did he agree that accepting the principle would detract from the police s primary functions. The liability principle reflected the content of Article 2 European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR), Right to life. • 35. Cool Hand Luke By Stuart Rosenberg Those inclined to think about religious matters embrace distinctly different images of God such as in the film Cool Hand Luke Directed by: Stuart Rosenberg, a central component to making the film what it is, is the subtle use of religious imagery. The way Luke Jackson is presented as a character, embodies this very likeness to Jesusthrough his actions, speech and posture. The way Luke starts a bond with the other prisoners is through a boxing match and a poker game. During the boxing match, Luke gets beaten up by his soon to be right hand Dragline. While playing poker, he wins the game by bluffing a hand worth nothing and comments that sometimes nothing can be a real cool hand and also during the poker game is when he attained his nick name Cool Hand Luke . During his sentence in jail, Luke s family came to visit him so that he could say good bye to his mother because she was not breathing to well on the account that she smoked a lot and developed this horrible cough in which she and her family realized that she might not last until Luke got out of jail. After his mother visits, Luke becomes more optimistic about his situation and because of this, the other prisoners begin to idolize him. This is where we start receiving subtle images of Jesus and the 12 disciples because of the way that they all began to follow him and be his support group. Such as the disciples were to Jesus. One day while working on the road to Luke s leadership is truly shown, he leads the group ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 39. For Gay Marriage Expository Writing Analyzing a Text #2 Molly O Brien In the Boston Globe newspaper editorial For Gay Marriage the editors argue that gay marriage should be legalized. Throughout the article the Globe Editors mention the expanding circle of rights, the circle includes the civil rights movement, gender equality, rights for the disabled, 18 year olds to vote, single mothers and adoptive parents. It is apparent that the right for gay marriage should occur ( Globe A18).These advances have occurred with the help of court cases. The 1967 supreme court case and Loving V. Virginia Court rulings ruled that the ban on interracial marriage was unconstitutional ( Globe A18). Along with the court precedents The Globe uses Hillary Goodridge as an example when she was unable to see her newly born daughter in the hospital because she was not married to her partner of 15 years. Smirnov Vodka Empire in The King of Vodka Although the King of Vodka concerns itself with a different time period and a distant land, the history of founding and eventual disintegration of the Smirnov Vodka Empire seems resonant in today s business environment. The famous brand was built in one of the most tumultuous periods in Russian history, yet the founder had struggled with many of the same business problems we see today. In 1831, Pyotr A. Smirnov was born to illiterate Russian serfs in a village so remote that walking at night required clanking metal sticks together to scare off the wolves hidden in the forest. Smirnov spent his childhood during one of Russia s worst cholera epidemics. However, vodka was his ticket out of this peasant life. Settling in Moscow during the reforms that began with emancipation, his genius grassroots marketing popularized his products and established his brand. His life became one of privilege. His ascent would have continued uninterrupted had it not been for a series of devastating labor strikes, social uprisings, and a government imposed vodka monopoly. Ultimately, the Smirnov lost it all, as victims of the Bolshevik revolution and the chaos it unleashed. Fortunately for Smirnov, his family was ambitious. The success of uncle Grigoriy who made enough money to buy his own freedom inspired a young Pyotr to move to Moscow and pursue his own liberation. As the African American community would begin to gain capital to build a solid infrastructure for their communities or begin the transition and facilitated diffusion into areas with affluence and or resources by way of legislation mandating the integration of public facilities, they would have more education, opportunity to jobs, and access to an entire race of people for love so that it was no longer prohibited. This equality is social equality, or the premise of equity in the public such as in love or education. This equality would revolutionize the times as, again, there was a specific subordination associated with African Americancommunities associated with them being inhuman as a justification for the slave trade. The process of achieving social equality not only meant that this idea of African Americans as inhuman and subordinate had to be totally discredited as they could then be equals with Caucasian populations. It also meant that the African American society had the opportunity of social mobility whether it be educational status, fiscal class, or both. This threatened the elitism of the majority Caucasian population. The sit up is commonly implemented to tone and strengthen the abdominal muscles as an endurance training exercise. Within the exercise, you are strengthening the rectus abdominus along with engaging the internal and external obliques. Your rectus abdominis attaches to ribs 5 through 7 and starts at your pubic bone while stretching, in a straight line, upwards to your ribs. It is activated every time your ribs are brought towards your thighs. It is also accountable for guiding the tilt of your pelvis and the curvature of your lower spine. Your obliques, on the other hand, consist of the lateral abdominal muscles and promote flexion, rotation and bending of the spine Nevertheless, because of the sit ups wide range of motion, additional muscles (assisting muscles) consist of the rectus femoris, iliopsoas, sartorius, and tensor fasciae latae, and obliques.... The most significant of these, was the change to the overall economic system of the South. After Slavery and the cotton industry was shattered, the South was left with figuring out how to fix a once rich land founded on slavery. The first example of economic change in the South was in how African Americans began to support themselves economically. Plantations in the South were virtually workerless after African Americans were emancipated. Not only that, they were left economically in debt from the destruction caused by the Civil War. This left the Plantation owners at a loss of ability to function and since most African Americans didn t want to go back to work for plantation owners, the Black Codes were created. The... Tenants rented this land and were also given supplies by their landlord such as seed, farming equipment and fertilizer. The landlord decided what prices were available to the tenant and how much things cost. Often crops were unpredictable and landlords were very unfair with their prices. This would leave the tenants in debt that would carry over year after year. This, in a way, tied the tenants to the land so that they could never leave the landlord and left them in a constant state of crippling poverty. The case for economic regulation is premised on the existence of significant market failure resulting from economies of scale and scope in production, from information imperfections in market transactions, from the existence of incomplete markets and externalities, and from resulting income and wealth distribution effects. It has been suggested that market failures may be more pronounced, and therefore the case for public regulation is stronger, in developing countries (Stiglitz 1998). More recent theoretical contributions to the regulation literature have provided a model of regulation for network industries that recognises the
