The Causes And Treatments Of Joon Hee Bang ( S )
Nocturnal Enuresis
The causes and treatments
Joon Hee Bang (S)Enuresis Enuresis is defined as a repeated involuntary urination of individuals
old enough to be expected to exercise such control. Most girls can stay dry by age six and most
boys by age seven. Enuresis can be classified into three different types; Diurnal enuresis, Nocturnal
enuresis and Mixed enuresis. Diurnal enuresis and Nocturnal enuresis are daytime and night time
wetting respectively. These two types are also known as monosymptomatic. When these two
symptoms occur simultaneously, it is then known as Mixed enuresis (nonmonosymptomatic). Most
of the time, the term Enuresis can be used equivalent to Nocturnal enuresis, as it is most common
among the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Primary enuresis is when a patient did not experience a period of controlled voiding, where as
secondary is referred to as repetition of bedwetting after having been dry at night for more than 6
months. Other than this, primary and secondary enuresis are similar in terms of clinical
presentations, as they show common pathogenesis. The factors implicated in the pathogenesis of
enuresis include a disorder affecting arousal from sleep, nocturnal polyuria, and a reduced nocturnal
bladder capacity. These factors will be discussed further on later.
Requisites of controlled urination There are two main points that are considered important for
ability of controlled voiding. Firstly, the sufficient production of antidiuretic hormone (ADH) ,
which reduces urine production at night. Moreover, one has to be able to wake up themselves
when the bladder is full. Treatment such as the bedwetting alarms and DDAVP tablets are based on
these factors, in order to cure and improve them.
Etiology of Enuresis There are several different conditions that may precipitate secondary enuresis.
First of all, cystitis and constipation are both associated with reduced functional bladder capacity
which may lead to enuresis. However, parents are often unaware of these conditions in their child.
In one cross sectional study of 277 children with enuresis, in which parental reporting of
constipation was compared with a clinician s assessment,

S. 436 (2011), otherwise known as the Fix Gun Checks Act of 2011 is a bill that was proposed by
New York Senator Charles Schumer. The purpose of the bill is:
To ensure that all individuals who should be prohibited from buying a firearms are listed in the

According to the bill, it is the duty of the United States Attorney General to withhold funds from
those states that do not provide sufficient information to the Department of Justice regarding those
individuals who are prohibited from purchasing firearms. The funds withheld are those that would
allocated to a state in regards to the Omnibus Crime Control and Safe Streets Act of 1968. Under
this Act, state and local governments are given federal funding in order to reduce the incidence of
crime and to increase the effectiveness, fairness, and coordination of law enforcement and criminal

Sound of Music location, at the time the largest and most profitable Sound of Music store, was
hit by a tornado. The store s roof was sheared off and showroom destroyed, but the storeroom was
left intact. In response, Schulze decided to have a Tornado Sale of damaged and excess stock in

Bowling for Columbine Thesis Statements Essay

Bowling for Columbine Thesis Statements
1) The high casualties caused by guns are a result of how easy it is to obtain one. If policies were
made stricter, casualties would go down.
I do not agree with this because it would only affect the people who go to obtain their guns
legally. If you really wanted one all you would have to do is steal it, so the policies would then
have no effect on you.
2) Minorities and blacks are made to be scarier than they are because they are always the ones
portrayed on TV causing the crimes.
I agree with this statement because when I listen to the news 90% of the time when I heard
crimes talked about they were committed by blacks or Mexicans. Only rarely do I hear of a crime ...

6) Charlton Heston does have some contribution to gun violence because even after the tragedies of
Columbine and Buell he held pro gun rallies in those towns, after he was asked to cancel.
I agree with this because it shows that even though he sees how guns have killed people, he is still
pushing for people to purchase them and supporting them fully.
7) Influence for violence is always put on the media and figure heads such as Marilyn Manson but
never on the president.
I agree with that because if you pay attention to society that s how it is. On the day Columbine
occurred the US also dropped the record number of bombs on Kosovo in the war, but when people
go to pinpoint the blame to say why Eric and Dylan shot up Columbine nobody ever blamed it on
the president.
8) Parents don t realize that it s harder for kids in school today than it was when they attended
school back in the day.
I agree with this because there is a lot more bullying in today s day in age than there was way
back when. Also kids take it more personally which messes with their self esteem quite a bit.
9) The US is so gun happy and has as many murders as it does because the media is continuously
pumping fear into us even if it s not true so that they have good stories to tell.
I agree with this because it has happened many times before. For example the Y2K bug which was
supposed to cause mass chaos with our computer systems never happened and the African

Essay about Politics and Religion in the Herbert’s Dune...
Politics and Religion in the Herbert s Dune Novels
There are a variety of political and religious concepts throughout the Dune novels that varies so
much through the novels which makes it a complex and cogitative science fiction series. The Dune
novels are popular with many fans and partly this is due because of its political and religious
structures. This essay will be focussing primarily on the first four Dune novels written by Frank
Herbert. In the first novel, the Qizarate is composed of missionaries and is a religious body that
carries Muad dib s religion across the universe (Herbert Dune Messiah 8). Muad dib is a character
in three of the Dune novels and originally was named Paul Atreides who was heir to the ... Show

Paul wanted the Fremen to be free, but they can not because of the Jihad. The Bene Gesserit s
main goal in the novels was their breeding program. They wanted to create a powerful Kwisatz
Haderach , that they would use to rule the universe. A Kwisatz Haderach is the male counterpart
of a fully developed Reverend Mother [who is powerful Bene Gesserit]... and more a human of
superior sensitivity and awareness (Herbert Children of Dune 15). Their efforts at controlling this
Kwisatz Haderach fail, however, and they lose the political power they once had before the
Kwisatz Haderach came to power in Paul Atreides. In order to create this Kwisatz Haderach, they
had to be deceitful to different political Houses by not informing anyone of their real motives.
Deceit is a tool of statecraft, and statecraft is essential to political systems (Herbert Dune Messiah
64). Alia, Paul s sister, controls the Regency that controls most of the universe, through politics and
religion in Children of Dune (Herbert 56). [Paul] placed his own sister, Alia, on the religious throne
the Bene Gesserit had thought their own. (Herbert Dune Messiah 8). Through this Regency, Alia
can do whatever she wishes as long as it doesn t provoke the Fremen and her subjects against the
Regency. The Regency promotes Muad dib s Religion to help keep control of the universe. By
promoting this religion, the Regency is ensuring

her teeth, quickly pulled her knotted hair into a high ponytail, and left for school. The short
distance she walked was filled with the sounds of worn out shoes hitting the dirt road as children
ran by excited to start a new day at the town s only elementary school. After hours of sitting in a
classroom surrounded by grey concrete bricks, once the last bell rang, she would wait at the

The Importance Of Segregation In America
Halfway There
Segregation has been in America since it was founded, and although it has lessened it is still present
today. Slavery ended in 1865 with the 13th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution; which stated that
slavery was illegal. At the time, most white people were still racist, and African Americans weren t
treated like normal members of society. In 1868, the 14th Amendment stated that everyone born in
America is a citizen. Unfortunately, although many years had past, prejudices on integration still
remained in 1957, when the Little Rock Nine happened.
Desegregation has been difficult for America, and although progress has been made, research shows
that much room for improvement remains.
An event that showed the difficulties of integration was the ordeal of Little Rock Nine. In 1954,
the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in the case Brown v. Board of Education that the segregation of
public schools was unconstitutional. On September 4, 1957, (the first day of school) the National
Guard was sent to escort a group of nine African American students into Central High in Little
Rock, Arkansas. This group was called The Little Rock Nine, and they were enrolled in the
previously all white Central High to start integration in schools.

Pros And Cons Of Unethical Manufacturing
Brands, the world s face of everyday products not complete thought American Eagle , Forever 21,
Nike we crave name brands that show society we make enough money to afford those trendy,

manufacturing. Unethical manufacturing, in other words the immoral treatment of workers
through use of child labor, low wages, and large corporations are intent on reaping the poor labor
pool of third worldcountries. The already depleted resources these countries have is being stripped
away by brands. When companies look for labor they seek the cheapest, most efficient means of
making their product. Many brands start out with American manufacturers and move production
overseas in an effort to lower cost and increase profit. While overseas hiring may subsequently
lower production cost, it subjects those countries working class citizens to the high demands of
western companies. We are all familiar with the Walmart slogan Everyday low prices ; Walmart
among other companies strives to keep prices low to succeed in competitive capitalist markets. It is
that competition between companies, in and effort to meet consumer demands, that eventually
leads to overseas hiring and in turn unethical manufacturing. Anna McMullen from CNN describes
why unethical and unsafe working conditions arise. As the demand for cheap clothing grows in the
west, brands continue to look for ways to race to the

Reflective Essay On The Spirit Of God
I just emailed out my last meeting reminders for the semester at Biola. Thankfully, they do not
represent the final meetings with the majority of people with whom I meet. Of the 52 individuals I
have met with, 42 of them will continue after the first of the year. This continuity allows for greater
understanding of their stories and greater capacity to help them discern Gods voice in their lives.
Those who are transitioning out create space for new people, and new opportunities to discover the
movements of God in the direction room.
Please be praying for the people God will bring to the ministry of Rooted Soul.
Along with these individuals, I have led three groups, with a total of 21 people. This provides a
totally different dynamic, which allows the members to discover how the Spirit of God can speak
through them, into the lives of others. What takes place in these groups is often surprising and
powerful, as we see God meet people in life giving ways. Each of these groups will continue in the
New Year, and I will be adding a fourth, rather large group, of 16 people.
Please pray for these groups, for people to feel safe, be open, and encounter God through their
brother and sisters in Christ.

Norman Rockwell s Artistic Success And Tragic Passing Of...
Norman Rockwell, a name most have heard if not learned, when the topic of art was ever

man. His art is loved by many today as it was decades ago. Many have seen his work be it online, at
an art museum or in an art history book and have been intrigued by his art. I will be covering the
early life, artistic success and tragic passing of the great artist, Norman Rockwell.
Born in New York City on February 3 of year 1894, Norman Perceval Rockwell was destined for
fame and great artistry. At the age of 14, Norman already knew what he wanted to be an artist. He
was then enrolled in art classes at The New York School of Art (also known formerly as the... Show

It had been Rockwell s dream to do a cover for the Post magazine. Although not having an
appointment, he showed his work to the editor hoping for the best. The editor acknowledged
and accepted Rockwell s two finished works as covers and three other sketches for future covers.
His dream had in fact became a reality and this was just the start of a long relationship Norman
would have with the iconic magazine, a 47 year relationship to be exact. In total, he painted over
320 covers for the Post. Rockwell s victory with the magazine won him interest by other
magazines which in turn led him to begin selling his paintings and drawings. One of his best and
most memorable covers was the 1927 celebration of Charles Lindbergh s crossing of the Atlantic.
Another magazine that he worked for was Look, which featured his cover capturing the imprint of
Neil Armstrong s foot on the moon s surface after the successful moon landing in 1969.
The 1930s and 40s were the best eras for Rockwell. In 1930, he married a second time to a
woman named Mary Barstow. Mary was a schoolteacher, and together her and Rockwell had three
sons: Jarvis, Peter and Thomas. The family moved over to Arlington, Vermont, in 1939. There
was a whole new and exciting world that was now at Norman s feet that offered the right material
for the artist to pick from. Much of Rockwell s success came from his appreciation for just
everyday American scenes,

Planned Approach to Change
Kurt Lewin and the Planned Approach to Change:
A Re appraisal
Bernard Burnes
Manchester School of Management
пќЎпќўпќіпќґпќІпќЎпќЈпќґ The work of Kurt Lewin dominated the theory and practice of change
management for over 40 years. However, in the past 20 years, Lewin s approach to change,
particularly the 3 Step model, has attracted major criticisms. The key ones are that his work:
assumed organizations operate in a stable state; was only suitable for small scale change projects;
ignored organizational power and politics; and was top down and management driven. This article
seeks to re appraise Lewin s work and challenge the validity of these views. It begins by describing

LEWIN S BACKGROUND
Few social scientists can have received the level of praise and admiration that has been heaped
upon Kurt Lewin (Ash, 1992; Bargal et al., 1992; Dent and
Goldberg, 1999; Dickens and Watkins, 1999; Tobach, 1994). As Edgar Schein
(1988, p. 239) enthusiastically commented:
There is little question that the intellectual father of contemporary theories of applied behavioural
science, action research and planned change is Kurt Lewin.
His seminal work on leadership style and the experiments on planned change which took place in
World War II in an effort to change consumer behaviour launched a whole generation of research in
group dynamics and the implementation of change programs.
978 B. Burnes
Blackwell Publishing Ltd 2004For most of his life, Lewin s main preoccupation was the
resolution of social con flict and, in particular, the problems of minority or disadvantaged
groups. Underpinning this preoccupation was a strong belief that only the permeation of
democratic values into all facets of society could prevent the worst extremes of social conflict.
As his wife wrote in the Preface to a volume of his collected work published after his death:
Kurt Lewin was so constantly and predominantly preoccupied with the task of advancing the

you can try. пѓ Buy a separate brush for your machine. Most spiralizers are dishwasher safe, but
it would still be better if you can scrub the blades using a dedicated brush. Sometimes, fruit or
vegetable fibers remain within the blades. These leftovers will contribute to the early decay of the

Religion And Spirituality On The United States Of America...
Religion and spirituality have been complex issues in the United States of America. This is
especially true when it comes to Native Americans. Since the 16th century, contact between
Native Americans and Europeans has been filled with both good and bad. In this paper, the issue
of religion and spirituality and how they figure into the story of Indian European contact between
the 16th and 21st centuries will be discussed. The people of the Eastern Woodlands held beliefs
about the human, natural, and supernatural worlds. The people believed that there was no line
between the human and natural worlds. In some languages, animals were referred to as people.
Humans were referred to as extra people, or people people. They also believed there was no line
between the natural and supernatural worlds. They also had in their beliefs the idea of manitou.
Manitou roughly translates to spirit in English. They believed there was manitou in everything in
the human, natural, and supernatural worlds. They believed there was power in the natural world
itself. In a reading done in class, Farmers of the Woodlands, written by Peter Nabokov and Dean
Snow, there is discussion of the religious and spiritual beliefs of the people who lived in the
Eastern Woodlands. For the Penobscot bands, they had the spiritual belief of totems. These totems
were animals. They believed the totems were the ancestors to the people of the band. These totems
linked them to the lands they lived, hunted, and fished

Vitamin A Research Paper
acquired immune deficiency syndromes and this makes the individuals susceptible to infectious
diseases (7 9). For example, vitamin A plays a crucial role in the immune system such that a
deficiency in this essential vitamin is strongly associated with infectious diseases. Other nutrients
that have been studied with regards to nutritional immunology include zinc, copper, selenium, iron,
vitamins C, B6, folic acid, A and E and the essential (polyunsaturated) fatty acids. A brief discussion
of these nutrients follows.
Vitamins and how they affect immunity

Similarly, supplemental vitamin E has been proven to enhance resistance to infections in lambs,
sheep, rodents, turkey and chicks (16). Other documented benefits of vitamin E include remarkable
elevation of specific antibody responses, T helper cell function, and T and B cells cooperative
effects (17).
In another study, it was discovered that when vitamin E was administered at an estimated dosage
of 10 to 50 times the normal dietary intake, it promoted the mitogenic response to T cell and B cell.
However, these responses were inhibited when the dosage was increased to about 170 350 times,
confirming a dose dependent trend in animal species. On the contrary, studies with human subjects
showed an increase in the number of T cells without an accompanying effect on mitogenic
responses. When vitamin E was added to an antioxidant cocktail and administered to the subjects,
an increase in both T cells and mitogenic responses was recorded. This suggests a synergy between
vitamin E and the antioxidant nutrients (18).

Joseph Plumb Martin Essay
Joseph Plumb Martin was born upon the twenty first of November, in the year of 1760 (Martin
6). His grandparents raised him on their Connecticut farm. Inspired by the Battles of Lexington
and Concord he decided to enlist into the army. He was eager to help for the patriotic cause. In
June of 1776, at the age of 15, Martin was able to enlist but didn t want to sign up for a long
enlistment. Soldiers at the time were enlisting for a year s service but he did not like that and
thought it was too long a time for him for the first trial, I wished only to take a priming before I

He goes on to explain the living conditions he had to endure and his lack of sleep. It was utterly
impossible to lie down and to get any rest or sleep on account of the mud Martin recalls, and can
say in sincerity that I never lay down to sleep a minute in all that time (Martin 77). The fighting at
Fort Mifflin allowed Washington and his troops to withdraw to winter quarters at Valley Forge
. It
was too late in the season for the British to follow them.
After arriving at Valley Forge Martin and his fellow soldiers were about to go through the
famously long cold winter that awaited them. Martin wrote, Our prospect was indeed dreary. In
our miserable condition, to go into the wild woods and build us habitations to stay (not to live) in,
in such a weak, starved and naked condition, was appalling in the highest degree (Martin 89). He
talks about lying there two nights and one day, and had not a morsel of any thing to eat all the time
(Martin 90).
Martin describes the travel and the toll it took on men. I had now to travel the rest of the day,
after marching all the day and night before and fighting all the morning. I had eaten nothing since
the noon of the preceding day, nor did I eat a morsel til the forenoon of the next day, and I needed

Adeline Yen Mah s Chinese Cinderella
Chinese Cinderella by Adeline Yen Mah, is a very depressing story about a young girl, Adeline,

abuse, withholding of food and parents who ignore her existence. Adeline is even abused by her
siblings who don t like her because she is bad luck. Adeline s birth led to the death of her mother

more I wanted to ride my bike down the hill too, so I grabbed my bike and when they all went

One example of how Alex is resourceful is when he was trapped in a giant aquarium with a
dangerous jellyfish inside. In order to survive he had to use what he had with him. According to
the story ВЁAlex held the tube against the metal corners at the front of the tank and did his best
to squeeze a long line of cream all the way down the length of the metalВЁ (Horowitz 162) This
shows Alex s resourcefulness because when it didn t look like he was going to survive because
he was close to drowning and getting stung by a poisonous jellyfish he escaped by using a
special cream he had to melt through the metal support beams on the tank which made the tank
break open. Another example of how Alex was resourceful is when he used the karate move that
he had learned when he was younger to take down an armed guard. One example from the text is
where it states ВЁAt that moment Alex struck. It was another classic karate blow this time
twisting his body around and driving his elbow into the side of the mans head just below the ear.
The guard didn t even cry outВЁ (Horowitz 140). This shows that Alex is resourceful because if
he wouldn t have knocked to guard out with his special move he most likely would have either
gotten shot by the guard or tortured for spying on the company to find out what they were doing
that they where trying to hide. Through Alex knocking out the guard and Alex breaking out of the
tank he manages to escape these two life or death

Antigone Foil To Creon
Antigone versus Creon
In the play Antigone, the character Antigone serves as a foil character for Creon in an attempt to
show Creon the wrong in his judgement. The play is based around the belief of right by burial
which Creon so happens to be denying a certain man of that right, Polynices, one of Antigone s
brothers. Antigone serves a foil for Creon through most of her actions throughout the play. She
buries her brother not once but twice, she argues with Creon over the right by burial belief, and
Creon has a chain reaction of loss that was caused by Antigone s death.
At the start of the play Antigone is suffering from the loss of her two brothers Eteocles and

Reform Movements During The 19th Century
Reform Movements During the 19th Century there were many reform movements that took place.
Reform movements were movements that were organized to reform or change the certain way of
things. Reform movements did not always work but the ones that did greatly changed the way our
nation operates today. There were three major reform movements that have altered the nation; the
abolitionist movement, the temperance movementand the women s suffrage movement. Without
these movements, and the great leaders involved, many common rights would not exist today. One
of the most important social and political reform movementin United States history was the

Another important reform movement was that of women suffrage. In the early 19th century,
married women could not enter into contracts without their husband s consent. Women also lost all
title to property or future earnings upon marriage. Children were also legally controlled by the
father. Women were also often left without protection against kidnapping or even imprisonment by
husbands and other male relatives. Women were also denied educational opportunities in a male
dominated society. There were many women involved in this movement but there were a significant
few who stood out. Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Lucretia Mott organized the Seneca Falls
Convention, and many other movements along with many papers and declarations calling for a
women s right to own property and to vote. Later the two formed the National Women s Suffrage
Association.
Over many years of protests and other movements laws were passed that granted women the right
to vote and own their own land. One major movement was the temperance movement. In colonial
America, informal social controls in the home and community helped maintain the expectation that
the abuse of alcohol was unacceptable. There was a clear consensus that while alcohol was a gift
form God its abuse was from the Devil. As the colonies grew from a rural society into a more urban
one, drinking patterns began to change. As the American

The Use Of The Sit-In Movement In The Civil Rights Movement
The sit in movement acted as a major protest and turning point for the Civil Rights Movement. The
sit ins highlighted the main moral issue that was being fought: racial discrimination and
segregation. Blacks utilized the strategies of nonviolence and student involvement in order to
combat the moral issue of racial segregation ( Ain t Scared of Your Jails ). The appeal for human
rights through the use of nonviolencewas an important strategy utilized by blacks during the Civil
Rights movement and in particular the sit inmovement. The students who initiated the sit ins were
heavily trained on non violence tactics ( Ain t Scared of Your Jails ). These tactics were often
taught through workshops on nonviolence that taught them how to take the blows and respond
with a sense of dignity (Vivian, Ain t Scared of Your Jails ). Such training was useful, as whites
often responded with violence. While protesters were sitting at the counter, they found themselves
attacked by whites, while the police did nothing to protect them ( Ain t Scared of Your Jails ).
Likewise, the residence of Z. Alexander Looby was bombed ( Ain t Scared of Your Jails ).
However, the violence perpetrated by whites was only used against them as blacks intended to whip
the enemy with something that he doesn t understand : that something being peaceful resistance
(McCain, 116). This peaceful resistance was crucial for the success of the movement, as

The Effects Of Piracy On The Business Of Music And Film
Music and films are bought and meant to be bought to be enjoyed by the general public, not to
be stolen and used for a profit when it is not their right to do so. Piracy has been a big factor of
illegal actions that occur through. Piracy, unfortunately, has been happening for years now.
People pirate movies and music and give it out to the public to use. While it is cheaper to get
than the regular prices of the product, it affects the business of music and film. People tend to do
this in a way that will benefit the public by selling the product for a cheap price or posting it on a
file sharing site for others to get it for free. Some think it is beneficial, but others think this is just
pure piracyby those who use the internet to do this.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are internet service providers that are helping in the fight against internet pirates.
However, there are also service providers that are helping in the fight that do not enforce the
antipiracy rules enough and that allows the pirates to continue on with piracy. The problem is
that internet piracy has been around for quite a while. Still, in the eyes of the industry, illegal
downloads remain a lingering problem. According to the RIAA, since Napster emerged in 1999,
music sales in the U.S. have fallen 53%, from $14.6 billion in 1999 to $7 billion in 2013 (Jones
1). The problem has been around since the late 1990s and has since then evolved more with
more torrent sites being created and giving people opportunities for free music or free movies.
This has caused a problem with many people in the music and film industries. The music
industry has suffered more from internet piracy with internet pirates constantly posting music
on torrent sites that allows most users to download them for free. This causes music sales to go
down and this causes the music industry to lose more money than they could have gained if
everybody bought their music. Consider piracy of music and giving it away for free a way of theft.
Bootlegging is robbing music sales as well as people do buy pirated albums as wells. This just goes
to show the problem with piracy is getting bigger. Piracy has grown to be a

Paine rejected the traditional ideas of government and had a vision for a future society that

played a major impact in jump starting the American Revolution by elucidating the impracticalities

Another problem which Paine found with the society of his time was social injustice. In
Agrarian Injustice Paine expresses that it is wrong to say that God made rich and poor, He made
only male and female; and He gave them the earth for their inheritance (Agrarian Justice). Paine is
trying to show that people of all kinds of social standing are equal and it is a government s
responsibility to treat them that way. He goes on to explain that poverty is not natural but is a
creation of humans as a result of civilized life. Paine explains the main way that humans have
created social injustice is through the division of private property among citizens. He states that
division of property has dispossessed more than half the inhabitants of every nation of their natural
inheritance, without providing for them, as ought to have been done, an indemnification for that
loss (Agrarian). Paine explains this to show that those in poverty are unable to control the situation
they are in so all people should have a mutual obligation to help out everyone in

Discrimination And Discrimination
America s prison incarceration rate has increased by over 600%. This outlandish statistic leaves
America with the largest incarceration rate in the world. (Pager 2003) As of right now, one third of
the population has a criminal record of some sort (Barraza 2016). The issue of incarceration doesn t
stop with alarming numbers, however. A damaging amount of stigma is attached to those that have
a criminal record. Having a record essentially becomes an automatic stamp of dismissal from
American society; you are barred from, or severely limited in your ability to, gain meaningful
employment, pay for higher education, or, in some cases, be banned from housing altogether. In
2016, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development announced that they would now be
expanding the protections of the Fair Housing Act to restrict the blanket denial of housing to those
with criminal records (2016). To better understand the content of this newer policy, the social
conditions that made it necessary, and the impact it can have on inequality, having an understanding
of sociological concepts such as approaches to community based discrimination, de facto
segregation, steering practices, total discrimination, and the benefits of integration is essential.
The Fair Housing Act of 1968 was passed to prevent the same discrimination we seem to be
suffocating in today. The purpose of the act was to make it unlawful to deny access to housing
based on the race, color, religion, or national origin (Yinger 1999). Later, the act would be
amended to included protected parties such as disabled people, for example. Almost 50 years
after the original act was signed into law, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban
Development is making a change to expand, or at least specifically acknowledge and included,
those that have a criminal record. The press release made by a department representative
explicitly states, Under this standard, a facially neutral policy or practice that has a discriminatory
effect violates the Act if it is not supported by a legally sufficient justification. Thus, where a
policy or practice that restricts access to housing on the basis of criminal history has a disparate
impact on individuals of a particular race,

Benefits And Benefits Of Writing
Writing and its Benefits
The first phase in writing; invented spelling, is illustrated by Kelli, a first grader. Young children
use invented spelling as a vehicle to express their thoughts. When exposed to various types of
print, or writing; cereal boxes, signs, television, billboards, and any books that are read to them, the
child will mimic the sounds they hear of the words they wish to write. The writings may appear as
scribbles or unconventional writing to the viewer, but to the child it is meaningful, logical writing.
The concern for the parent and their child s invented style of spelling is that the child will later have
difficulty transitioning to a more standard, conventional style of spelling. The opposite is true,

To help gauge this, teachers may implement meaningful activities such as: songs or nursery
rhymes. Less and less (as a child is encouraged and given the freedom to use invented spelling, as
they learn to pick up the sounds heard in the words), they will seek help spelling words from the
teacher, increasing their confidence level. At some point the teacher may have the child share their

Mother Patsy Ramsey Essay
I personally believe that the mother patsy ramsey is the one that killed her daughter jonbenet

staged it was written with a notepad and a pen that was found inside the home. There was also
spelling errors in the note supporting the claim meaning is wasn t real.another piece of evidence
that backs up my claim is they had found out that the mother was being abusive so maybe she had
gone too far and accidently killed her.there are some other theories that there was a man called bill

A lot of things and the prices were different back in the day 1996 .For an example for a gallon of
gas it was$ 1.22 compared to now on depending on where you live it could be $3.00 $4.00 and
up. Not to mention average monthly rent was $554 compared to like now where it is $1231
depending on how much money your house cost but that is the average monthly cost for rent
now compared to back then.A Lot of things were cheaper back in the day to now because back in
the day people were making as much compared to right now. Some evidence that i have to backup
my claim is minimum wage in 1996 was $5.50 compared to right now it s up to $1.100 Another
major political difference back in the day was the republic of china taiwan had its first presidential
election. There was also some tragedies during that time as well. There were severe thunderstorms
and tornadoes in Bangladesh killing 600 people. I think that the mother patsy ramsey her mother is

Similarities Between Feminism And Feminism
4. The similarities of conflict theory and feminist perspective. There are many similar and
differences of these two theory s. Conflict theory believes that the social behavior is best
understood when looking at different groups and seeing the gaps of power and different resources
like housing, money, and access to services. This theory since the 1960 s has seem to start taking
over the functionalist perspective because of all the civil rights, decisions made in the Vietnam and
the rise of feminism. Feminist perspective is the inequality in genderas the main focal point in their
perspective. Ida wells was the first women to really start this perspective when she wrote the book
Lynching Black Americans. This book led to here coming out... Show more content on

6. Culture is everything that is learned, socially transmitted customs, knowledge. Material objects
and behavior. People preserve their cultures by passing them down from generation to generation.
They are also preserved from society which comes from cultures. Societies are large group of
people with similar cultures that form together to help preserve their cultures. Another way in
which they preserve their heritages is by literature, video recordings and any other means of
expression. George Murdock lists of cultural universals include athletic sports, cooking, dancing,
visiting, personal names, marriage, medicine, religious ritual, funeral ceremonies, sexual
restrictions and trade. All of these different cultural universals are very different and are each
expressed differently in different societies. Like some cultural might allow you to marry whoever
you want while others will choose your partners for you.
8. There are different four different kinds of norms they are formal, informal, mores, and folkways.
Formal norms are written down and specify strict punishments for violating them. Formal norms in
the United States are known as laws. Informal norms are usually understood but they are not
written down. These are the norms that most people know and that things you know are rude are
not right to do so you try not to use them. An example of an informal norm would be talking during
a movie. This is

The Role Of Aboriginal History In Western Australia
Indigenous Australians have lived in this land for approximately 60,000 years, it s believed they
migrated from Africa to Australia through southern Asia. In 1770 Capitan James Cook, arrived in

onwards British settlers took Aboriginal s land, resources, displace their people and pretty much
destroyed their culture.

Differences Between Nature Vs Nurture Essay
Throughout this paper, we will be comparing similarities and differences between our seven
members based on the Big Five Inventory test results to our Zodiac sign attributes. Each
member of Psychology 101 Group 14 was required to take the OCEAN Big Personality Quiz,
and then compare the results to the other members of the team. Then after looking at the results
individual members compared their scores to their Zodiac signs to see if they could identify
similarities. To begin, while looking at our comparatives scores of the OCEAN Big 5
Personality quizzes, we found that a few group members were similar, although there was many
differences in the group too. For example, Gabe and Damon were similar in Openness, with a
score of 41 and 35 respectively. On the other hand, Socoro and Vivianna were outliers in the
group, with Vivianna having a score of 5, and Socoro with a score of 59. We believe while the
scores are closely related, our reasons for being close together in Openness value more shows the
debate between nature vs nurture. Gabe s belief on being in the 35th percentile is how he was
raised throughout his family environment similar to Kaitlyn in the 41st percentile, while Damon s
belief for being in the 41st percentile was more so being born into the statistic rather than recalling
any events that contributed to his score. Rachael scored in the 16th percentile, which indicates a
preference of a more regular schedule. She believes that this is because of how she

School Boards And School Board
At the local level a school district can be seen as a unicameral parliamentary system. School boards
create education policy and appoint a superintendent to execute those policies.Dissatisfaction
Theory of Democracy holds the greatest explanatory potential in school board turnover (Alsbury,
2003). Applying this theory to school boards, the theory states changes in a community s values
translates to changes in community participation. This then leads to changes to school board
members who share this new value. And finally the school board changes its policy to reflect the
new values (Alsbury, 2003). Superintendents serve at the pleasure of the school board. Stream

Also, principals usually score within the top 10% of teachers in their state teaching certification
exams. Entry level administration salaries rival the salaries of teachers with decades of experience
teaching, thus encouraging many young teachers to leave the classroom (Baker Punswick Belt,
2010). Principals are more likely to leave positions at elementary or middle schools and pursue
principalships at large high schools. Where a principal receives their undergraduate degree has little
effect on their salaries, but selectivity of their master s degree program has a large effect on pay and
school demographics. Principals of schools with grater black student concentration are more likely
to have principals who attended less selective universities for their graduate degrees, and principals
with graduate degrees from more selective universities that focus on research are more likely to
take principalships in non black concentrated communities (Baker Punswick Belt, 2010).
Superintendents rise through the educational ranks, understanding what type of teachers undertake
a principalship helps us understand some of the self selection criteria superintendents possess.
Superintendents supersede principals and advance to administrative positions inside the school
district, becoming deputy superintendents and the like before attempting to become a
superintendent themselves (Baker Punswick Belt, 2010). Baker, Punswick, and Belt

The simulations of reservoir are very important and have a wide range of applications, from
ground water production to radioactive waster and the extraction of oil and gas from the

However, the computational cost of 3D reservoir simulations is intensive. The non intrusive
reduced order modelling technique presented here is capable of resolving 3D reservoir modelling
problems while avoiding the high computational cost. The reduced order modelling technique has
been shown to possess a powerful capability of representing the large dynamical systems using only
a few number of reduced order basis functions. Among the model reduction methods, the POD...

The Treaty of Paris was signed on February 10, 1763. This treaty temporarily concluded

Overall, this new law does reflect the values of society and addresses the changing concerns over
safe driving in the era of smartphones, although driver reactions were mixed. To accurately
measure usage and the societal mood on this issue, the National Road Safety Council (NRSC)

introduction of a new law banning the use of hands free mobile phones while driving. This

Tollund Man is a 2400 year old naturally mummified body that was discovered in 1950 in a

a result of being hung by a rope noose, because he believed in another god than his community,
which suggested he was rebelling against his own community. According to Source A, the Danish
police report, Tollund Man wore an iron neck ring, which was typically what slaves wore during the
Iron Age. Furthermore, Tollund Man was found with no clothes on, which indicates that he might
have been immensely poor. We could infer that the Tollund Man, therefore, was most likely a slave
due to the fact that he was found with no clothes on and with an iron neck drawn tight

the importance of team work in healthcare. In addition it will consider the qualities and behaviours
of a team leader as well as the team behaviours necessary for effective team performance.
In order to fully explore the nature of team work in healthcare it is importance to first look at

Effective teamwork is dependent on good leadership. In other words there certain characteristics
such as the behaviours and qualities of the leader and the behaviours of team member or
followers that contributes to the effectiveness of a team. Different leadership theories such as
the Trait theory, Situational theory, Behavioural theory, Transformational and Transactional
have been develop to describe the different styles of leadership and to identify what makes an
effective leader. However, there are certain qualities and behaviours that a team leader must
possess in order to create a high performance team. Consequently, the National Health Service
(NHS) (2013) has produce a leadership framework which provides nine dimension of leadership
behaviours which are essential for being an effective leader. Goleman et al (2002) suggest that
effective leadership behaviours include self awareness, self management, social awareness,
relationship management and confronting the impossible . In other words, a team leader has the
awareness of his or her own strengths, weaknesses, emotions, beliefs and values and its

A Discourse Of National Identity

The two collections articulate a discourse about national identity and how it is reflected in the art
produced in the United States. Both museums employing traditional classification from the art

approach the paradigms that address the historiography of American Art has established: the
Colony, the configuration of the Republic, The Civil War, the Centennial of Independence, Modern
art or European influence. In turn, each collection reserves a spot to talk about the universal
pictorial genres such as landscape, portrait, peasant scenes, women in the art, and paintings of
everyday life.
However, from the beginning one can see the different reality in which every museum and its
collection operate. When you enter to the galleries of the Brooklyn Museum, the amount of
information in a small space is overwhelming. Only eight galleries, plus the Luce Center, are the
spaces available to display, many times in a single room: painting, sculpture, decorative arts,
furniture, and historic interiors using colorful shaded walls, in order to introduce visitors to an
epochal atmosphere by looking at themes of globalization and cross influences among cultures.

Cortical Recording Platform and Monitoring Systems: principles, applications and new directions
Nirjhar Bhattacharjee
The cerebral cortex is the outer portion of the brain that covers the cerebrum and the cerebellum
(1.5 mm to 5 mm thick). It is the layer of the brain known as the gray matter. This portion of the
brain is further divided into four lobes for classification, frontal, parietal, temporal and occipital.
Our most complex mental activities like speech, memory, problem solving, planning, awareness,
and the execution of complex responses in the world are controlled by the cerebral cortex. Hence
monitoring the cerebral cortex for various disorders becomes extremely important for proper
diagnosis and care.

Regulation of glutamate signaling is necessary for proper neuronal excitation in the central nervous
system. Without proper regulation, increases in extracellular glutamate can contribute to
pathophysiology and neurological dysfunction seen in TBI. Glutamic acid (abbreviated as Glu or

non essential amino acid i.e. they are produced in the body. The carboxylate anions and salts of
glutamic acid are known as glutamates. Glutamate is the principal excitatory neurotransmitter in the

in Federico Lorca s The House of

work were influenced by a range of societal pressures, three major influences dominate both works.
The

As a result, society plays an important role by influencing the characters and their actions and
eventually leading to a tragic finale. Though The House of The Spirits is set in rural South
America (no particular country is specified) and not rural Spain, the society described in the novel
is very similar to that in The House of
Bernarda Alba. Again, the characters live in a society dominated and controlled by men with
distinctive social class separations and with the Catholic Church wielding great power and
influence over the people. The story spans three generations of the Trueba family who are all
greatly affected by the societal influences. As society changes, the characters also change as old
pressures disappear and new pressures emerge.
As was characteristic of rural societies throughout Europe and Latin
America at the time of these literary works, the Catholic Church played a profound role in the
lives of people. Its influence was so prevalent because it was the common link between people of
all social classes. In The House of Bernarda Alba , there are many examples of religion s great
influence and significant role in the lives of the characters.
However, it must be pointed out that the Church, an institution dominated by males, heavily
repressed women and thus solidified male dominance over women in society.
At the end of Act II we see a young woman in the village that had had a child

Video Game Violence And It s Affects On Youth
Video Game Violence and It s Affects on Youth
Video games are becoming ever more popular every day among adolescents, youth and adults.
Video game play can be fun, recreational and now with video game consoles such as the Wii, it
can even be healthy. However, some video games are brutally and exceedingly violent, which
should be fine because after all it s just a video game. However, we need to understand and know if
the effects of these violent video games are positive or negative amongst the youth. There are
arguments that say violence in video games are corrupt on the minds of the youth. Then, there are
opposing arguments that say video games are an educational learning tool for them. This literature
review will review both sides of this argument in an attempt to determine what effect violent video
games may have on our youth.
Everyone deals with stress and frustrations differently. However when action is taken out of
frustration and stress, the results are generally not positive. The crime and abuse rate in the United
States has soared in the past decade. More and more children suffer from and are being treated for
anger management than ever before. Now, one can t help but to wonder if these violent video
games are even playing a slight part in the current statistics. I believe they do. Some argue that
video game violence is negatively detrimental upon youth and destructively influential. According
to Anderson et al (2003), they researched multiple studies in which

Theme Of Violence In Huck Finn
Violence can be described as a behavior involving physical force intended to hurt, damage, or
kill someone or something. Violence has been around from the beginning and can be seen
through history in writing and events that occurred. In Mark Twain s The Adventures of
Huckleberry Finn, violence s jarring effects on societal members are evidenced through various
relationships and partnerships, portraying society s corrupt ideologies and ethics. Child abuse
had a great on effect Huck s whether if it had to do with where he is living or a decision he has
made. Huck has been abused for most if not all of his life by his father, Pap. Huck stated, I used
to be scared of him all the time, he tanned me so much (17). This quote shows how Huck had to
deal with Pap s abuse before and could not help himself. It shows that Pap has poor ethics shown
by beating his child simply because he can. This is an immoral act on Pap s part because he
believes he can control Huck s life including his life choices and his possessions. Pap says, I ll
take you down a peg, before I m done with you (17). Pap continues to torment and threaten Huck
even though he has not been around of the most recent parts of Huck s life. Pap s ideologies have
not changed since Huck was younger. Pap s ideals consist of being able to do what he wants when
he wants. This was apparent when he tries to threaten Huck and put himself above Huck. In the
1800s community leaders felt responsible for helping orphaned or abandoned

Primary enuresis is when a patient did not experience a period of controlled voiding, where as secondary is referred to as repetition of bedwetting after having been dry at night for more than 6 months. Other than this, primary and secondary enuresis are similar in terms of clinical presentations, as they show common pathogenesis. The factors implicated in the pathogenesis of enuresis include a disorder affecting arousal from sleep, nocturnal polyuria, and a reduced nocturnal bladder capacity. These factors will be discussed further on later. Requisites of controlled urination There are two main points that are considered important for ability of controlled voiding. Firstly, the sufficient production of antidiuretic hormone (ADH) , which reduces urine production at night. Moreover, one has to be able to wake up themselves when the bladder is full. Treatment such as the bedwetting alarms and DDAVP tablets are based on these factors, in order to cure and improve them. Etiology of Enuresis There are several different conditions that may precipitate secondary enuresis. First of all, cystitis and constipation are both associated with reduced functional bladder capacity which may lead to enuresis. However, parents are often unaware of these conditions in their child. • 6. Bowling for Columbine Thesis Statements Essay October 17, 2010 Bowling for Columbine Thesis Statements 1) The high casualties caused by guns are a result of how easy it is to obtain one. If policies were made stricter, casualties would go down. I do not agree with this because it would only affect the people who go to obtain their guns legally. If you really wanted one all you would have to do is steal it, so the policies would then have no effect on you. 2) Minorities and blacks are made to be scarier than they are because they are always the ones portrayed on TV causing the crimes. I agree with this statement because when I listen to the news 90% of the time when I heard crimes talked about they were committed by blacks or Mexicans. Only rarely do I hear of a crime ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 6) Charlton Heston does have some contribution to gun violence because even after the tragedies of Columbine and Buell he held pro gun rallies in those towns, after he was asked to cancel. I agree with this because it shows that even though he sees how guns have killed people, he is still pushing for people to purchase them and supporting them fully. 7) Influence for violence is always put on the media and figure heads such as Marilyn Manson but never on the president. I agree with that because if you pay attention to society that s how it is. On the day Columbine occurred the US also dropped the record number of bombs on Kosovo in the war, but when people go to pinpoint the blame to say why Eric and Dylan shot up Columbine nobody ever blamed it on the president. 8) Parents don t realize that it s harder for kids in school today than it was when they attended school back in the day. I agree with this because there is a lot more bullying in today s day in age than there was way back when. Also kids take it more personally which messes with their self esteem quite a bit. 9) The US is so gun happy and has as many murders as it does because the media is continuously pumping fear into us even if it s not true so that they have good stories to tell. I agree with this because it has happened many times before. For example the Y2K bug which was supposed to cause mass chaos with our computer systems never happened and the African

Just like any other eight year old in 1980, she got up, brushed her teeth, quickly pulled her knotted hair into a high ponytail, and left for school. The short distance she walked was filled with the sounds of worn out shoes hitting the dirt road as children ran by excited to start a new day at the town s only elementary school. After hours of sitting in a classroom surrounded by grey concrete bricks, once the last bell rang, she would wait at the entrance gate for her younger brother and cousin. • 17. The Importance Of Segregation In America Halfway There Segregation has been in America since it was founded, and although it has lessened it is still present today. Slavery ended in 1865 with the 13th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution; which stated that slavery was illegal. At the time, most white people were still racist, and African Americans weren t treated like normal members of society. In 1868, the 14th Amendment stated that everyone born in America is a citizen. Unfortunately, although many years had past, prejudices on integration still remained in 1957, when the Little Rock Nine happened. Desegregation has been difficult for America, and although progress has been made, research shows that much room for improvement remains. An event that showed the difficulties of integration was the ordeal of Little Rock Nine. In 1954, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in the case Brown v. Board of Education that the segregation of public schools was unconstitutional. On September 4, 1957, (the first day of school) the National Guard was sent to escort a group of nine African American students into Central High in Little Rock, Arkansas. This group was called The Little Rock Nine, and they were enrolled in the previously all white Central High to start integration in schools. Pros And Cons Of Unethical Manufacturing Brands, the world s face of everyday products not complete thought American Eagle , Forever 21, Nike we crave name brands that show society we make enough money to afford those trendy, fashionable items. Yet, these are the very companies that create an appalling byproduct: unethical manufacturing. Unethical manufacturing, in other words the immoral treatment of workers through use of child labor, low wages, and large corporations are intent on reaping the poor labor pool of third worldcountries. The already depleted resources these countries have is being stripped away by brands. When companies look for labor they seek the cheapest, most efficient means of making their product. Many brands start out with American manufacturers and move production overseas in an effort to lower cost and increase profit. While overseas hiring may subsequently lower production cost, it subjects those countries working class citizens to the high demands of western companies. We are all familiar with the Walmart slogan Everyday low prices ; Walmart among other companies strives to keep prices low to succeed in competitive capitalist markets. It is that competition between companies, in and effort to meet consumer demands, that eventually leads to overseas hiring and in turn unethical manufacturing. This continuity allows for greater understanding of their stories and greater capacity to help them discern Gods voice in their lives. Those who are transitioning out create space for new people, and new opportunities to discover the movements of God in the direction room. His dream had in fact became a reality and this was just the start of a long relationship Norman would have with the iconic magazine, a 47 year relationship to be exact. In total, he painted over 320 covers for the Post. Rockwell s victory with the magazine won him interest by other magazines which in turn led him to begin selling his paintings and drawings. One of his best and most memorable covers was the 1927 celebration of Charles Lindbergh s crossing of the Atlantic. Another magazine that he worked for was Look, which featured his cover capturing the imprint of Neil Armstrong s foot on the moon s surface after the successful moon landing in 1969. The 1930s and 40s were the best eras for Rockwell. In 1930, he married a second time to a woman named Mary Barstow. Mary was a schoolteacher, and together her and Rockwell had three sons: Jarvis, Peter and Thomas. The family moved over to Arlington, Vermont, in 1939. However, in the past 20 years, Lewin s approach to change, particularly the 3 Step model, has attracted major criticisms. The key ones are that his work: assumed organizations operate in a stable state; was only suitable for small scale change projects; ignored organizational power and politics; and was top down and management driven. This article seeks to re appraise Lewin s work and challenge the validity of these views. It begins by describing Lewin s background and beliefs, especially his commitment to resolving ... LEWIN S BACKGROUND Few social scientists can have received the level of praise and admiration that has been heaped upon Kurt Lewin (Ash, 1992; Bargal et al., 1992; Dent and Goldberg, 1999; Dickens and Watkins, 1999; Tobach, 1994). As Edgar Schein (1988, p. 239) enthusiastically commented: There is little question that the intellectual father of contemporary theories of applied behavioural science, action research and planned change is Kurt Lewin. His seminal work on leadership style and the experiments on planned change which took place in World War II in an effort to change consumer behaviour launched a whole generation of research in group dynamics and the implementation of change programs. 978 B. Burnes Blackwell Publishing Ltd 2004For most of his life, Lewin s main preoccupation was the resolution of social con flict and, in particular, the problems of minority or disadvantaged groups. Underpinning this preoccupation was a strong belief that only the permeation of democratic values into all facets of society could prevent the worst extremes of social conflict. In another study, it was discovered that when vitamin E was administered at an estimated dosage of 10 to 50 times the normal dietary intake, it promoted the mitogenic response to T cell and B cell. However, these responses were inhibited when the dosage was increased to about 170 350 times, confirming a dose dependent trend in animal species. On the contrary, studies with human subjects showed an increase in the number of T cells without an accompanying effect on mitogenic responses. When vitamin E was added to an antioxidant cocktail and administered to the subjects, an increase in both T cells and mitogenic responses was recorded. This suggests a synergy between vitamin E and the antioxidant nutrients (18). Pyrodixine Pyridoxine (B6) deficiency in monkeys, dogs, rats, and chicken is characterized by atrophy of lymphoid tissue. The appeal for human rights through the use of nonviolencewas an important strategy utilized by blacks during the Civil Rights movement and in particular the sit inmovement. Such training was useful, as whites often responded with violence. While protesters were sitting at the counter, they found themselves attacked by whites, while the police did nothing to protect them ( Ain t Scared of Your Jails ). Likewise, the residence of Z. Alexander Looby was bombed ( Ain t Scared of Your Jails ). However, the violence perpetrated by whites was only used against them as blacks intended to whip the enemy with something that he doesn t understand : that something being peaceful resistance (McCain, 116). The Effects Of Piracy On The Business Of Music And Film Music and films are bought and meant to be bought to be enjoyed by the general public, not to be stolen and used for a profit when it is not their right to do so. Piracy has been a big factor of illegal actions that occur through. Piracy, unfortunately, has been happening for years now. People pirate movies and music and give it out to the public to use. While it is cheaper to get than the regular prices of the product, it affects the business of music and film. People tend to do this in a way that will benefit the public by selling the product for a cheap price or posting it on a file sharing site for others to get it for free. There are internet service providers that are helping in the fight against internet pirates. However, there are also service providers that are helping in the fight that do not enforce the antipiracy rules enough and that allows the pirates to continue on with piracy. The problem is that internet piracy has been around for quite a while. Still, in the eyes of the industry, illegal downloads remain a lingering problem. According to the RIAA, since Napster emerged in 1999, music sales in the U.S. have fallen 53%, from $14.6 billion in 1999 to $7 billion in 2013 (Jones 1). The problem has been around since the late 1990s and has since then evolved more with more torrent sites being created and giving people opportunities for free music or free movies. This has caused a problem with many people in the music and film industries. The music industry has suffered more from internet piracy with internet pirates constantly posting music on torrent sites that allows most users to download them for free. This causes music sales to go down and this causes the music industry to lose more money than they could have gained if everybody bought their music. Consider piracy of music and giving it away for free a way of theft. Bootlegging is robbing music sales as well as people do buy pirated albums as wells. This just goes to show the problem with piracy is getting bigger. Piracy has grown to be a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He goes on to explain that poverty is not natural but is a creation of humans as a result of civilized life. Paine explains the main way that humans have created social injustice is through the division of private property among citizens. He states that division of property has dispossessed more than half the inhabitants of every nation of their natural inheritance, without providing for them, as ought to have been done, an indemnification for that loss (Agrarian). • 39. Discrimination And Discrimination America s prison incarceration rate has increased by over 600%. This outlandish statistic leaves America with the largest incarceration rate in the world. (Pager 2003) As of right now, one third of the population has a criminal record of some sort (Barraza 2016). The issue of incarceration doesn t stop with alarming numbers, however. A damaging amount of stigma is attached to those that have a criminal record. Having a record essentially becomes an automatic stamp of dismissal from American society; you are barred from, or severely limited in your ability to, gain meaningful employment, pay for higher education, or, in some cases, be banned from housing altogether. In 2016, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development announced that they would now be expanding the protections of the Fair Housing Act to restrict the blanket denial of housing to those with criminal records (2016). To better understand the content of this newer policy, the social conditions that made it necessary, and the impact it can have on inequality, having an understanding of sociological concepts such as approaches to community based discrimination, de facto segregation, steering practices, total discrimination, and the benefits of integration is essential. The Fair Housing Act of 1968 was passed to prevent the same discrimination we seem to be suffocating in today. The purpose of the act was to make it unlawful to deny access to housing based on the race, color, religion, or national origin (Yinger 1999). Later, the act would be amended to included protected parties such as disabled people, for example. Almost 50 years after the original act was signed into law, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development is making a change to expand, or at least specifically acknowledge and included, those that have a criminal record. The press release made by a department representative explicitly states, Under this standard, a facially neutral policy or practice that has a discriminatory effect violates the Act if it is not supported by a legally sufficient justification. Thus, where a policy or practice that restricts access to housing on the basis of criminal history has a disparate impact on individuals of a particular race, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Then after looking at the results individual members compared their scores to their Zodiac signs to see if they could identify similarities. To begin, while looking at our comparatives scores of the OCEAN Big 5 Personality quizzes, we found that a few group members were similar, although there was many differences in the group too. • 53. A Discourse Of National Identity Analysis Evaluation The two collections articulate a discourse about national identity and how it is reflected in the art produced in the United States. Both museums employing traditional classification from the art history, arranging the collections by period, schools, style, movement, and artists. Both collections approach the paradigms that address the historiography of American Art has established: the Colony, the configuration of the Republic, The Civil War, the Centennial of Independence, Modern art or European influence. In turn, each collection reserves a spot to talk about the universal pictorial genres such as landscape, portrait, peasant scenes, women in the art, and paintings of everyday life. However, from the beginning one can see the different reality in which every museum and its collection operate. When you enter to the galleries of the Brooklyn Museum, the amount of information in a small space is overwhelming. Only eight galleries, plus the Luce Center, are the spaces available to display, many times in a single room: painting, sculpture, decorative arts, furniture, and historic interiors using colorful shaded walls, in order to introduce visitors to an epochal atmosphere by looking at themes of globalization and cross influences among cultures. The collection is divided thematically based on the historiography of art or pictorial genres. The color of the walls and an information poster are an indication that you have moved to a new space and into ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 54. Traumatic Brain Injury Cortical Recording Platform and Monitoring Systems: principles, applications and new directions Nirjhar Bhattacharjee The cerebral cortex is the outer portion of the brain that covers the cerebrum and the cerebellum (1.5 mm to 5 mm thick). It is the layer of the brain known as the gray matter. This portion of the brain is further divided into four lobes for classification, frontal, parietal, temporal and occipital. Our most complex mental activities like speech, memory, problem solving, planning, awareness, and the execution of complex responses in the world are controlled by the cerebral cortex. Hence monitoring the cerebral cortex for various disorders becomes extremely important for proper diagnosis and care. For the purpose of developing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Regulation of glutamate signaling is necessary for proper neuronal excitation in the central nervous system. Without proper regulation, increases in extracellular glutamate can contribute to pathophysiology and neurological dysfunction seen in TBI. Glutamic acid (abbreviated as Glu or E) is one of the 20 22 proteinogenic amino acids, and its codons are GAA and GAG [9]. It is a non essential amino acid i.e. they are produced in the body. The carboxylate anions and salts of glutamic acid are known as glutamates. Glutamate is the principal excitatory neurotransmitter in the brain [10]. In the experimental studies conducted (Hinzman et al) [8], enzyme based microelectrode arrays (MEAs) were used to selectively measure extracellular tonic glutamate and potassium chloride (KCl) evoked glutamate released in the prefrontal cortex, dentate gyrus, and stratium of adult male rats two days after mild or moderate midline fluid percussion brain ... Federico Lorca s The House of Bernarda Alba and Isabel Allende s The House of the Spirits Society, and its influences upon the characters, plays a pivotal role in the development of the story in Federico Lorca s The House of Bernarda Alba and Isabel Allende s The House of the Spirits. Though the characters in each literary work were influenced by a range of societal pressures, three major influences dominate both works. The Church, male dominance over women, and socio economic status (in other words, one s social class ) are all sources of the greatest societal pressures upon the characters. In order to understand why these societal pressures had such a great influence upon the characters, it is important to understand the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As a result, society plays an important role by influencing the characters and their actions and eventually leading to a tragic finale. Though The House of The Spirits is set in rural South America (no particular country is specified) and not rural Spain, the society described in the novel is very similar to that in The House of Bernarda Alba. Again, the characters live in a society dominated and controlled by men with distinctive social class separations and with the Catholic Church wielding great power and influence over the people. The story spans three generations of the Trueba family who are all greatly affected by the societal influences. As society changes, the characters also change as old pressures disappear and new pressures emerge. As was characteristic of rural societies throughout Europe and Latin America at the time of these literary works, the Catholic Church played a profound role in the lives of people. Its influence was so prevalent because it was the common link between people of all social classes. In The House of Bernarda Alba , there are many examples of religion s great influence and significant role in the lives of the characters. However, it must be pointed out that the Church, an institution dominated by males, heavily repressed women and thus solidified male dominance over women in society. At the end of Act II we see a young woman in the village that had had a child ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Video game play can be fun, recreational and now with video game consoles such as the Wii, it can even be healthy. However, some video games are brutally and exceedingly violent, which should be fine because after all it s just a video game. However, we need to understand and know if the effects of these violent video games are positive or negative amongst the youth. There are arguments that say violence in video games are corrupt on the minds of the youth. Then, there are opposing arguments that say video games are an educational learning tool for them. This literature review will review both sides of this argument in an attempt to determine what effect violent video games may have on our youth. Everyone deals with stress and frustrations differently. However when action is taken out of frustration and stress, the results are generally not positive. The crime and abuse rate in the United States has soared in the past decade. More and more children suffer from and are being treated for anger management than ever before. • 57. Theme Of Violence In Huck Finn Violence can be described as a behavior involving physical force intended to hurt, damage, or kill someone or something. Violence has been around from the beginning and can be seen through history in writing and events that occurred. In Mark Twain s The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, violence s jarring effects on societal members are evidenced through various relationships and partnerships, portraying society s corrupt ideologies and ethics. Child abuse had a great on effect Huck s whether if it had to do with where he is living or a decision he has made. Huck has been abused for most if not all of his life by his father, Pap. Huck stated, I used to be scared of him all the time, he tanned me so much (17). This quote shows how Huck had to deal with Pap s abuse before and could not help himself. It shows that Pap has poor ethics shown by beating his child simply because he can. This is an immoral act on Pap s part because he believes he can control Huck s life including his life choices and his possessions. Pap says, I ll take you down a peg, before I m done with you (17). Pap continues to torment and threaten Huck even though he has not been around of the most recent parts of Huck s life. Pap s ideologies have not changed since Huck was younger. Pap s ideals consist of being able to do what he wants when he wants. This was apparent when he tries to threaten Huck and put himself above Huck. In the 1800s community leaders felt responsible for helping orphaned or abandoned ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
