PTSD In Military
Mental health illness is a major issue that several United States systems faces daily. Mental illness can
contribute to high crime rates, suicide, drug addiction, mass shootings, prison overcrowding, and
several other problems. This paper will discuss and examine mental health issues as it develops and
result in Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) in the United States Military, and specifically how
PTSD can result in suicide among military service members. PTSD is commonly and well known to
infantry soldiers who were mostly deployed to Afghanistan and Iraq war between 2001 and 2003 due
to an overwhelming and challenging environment. The war in Afghanistan and the invasion of Iraq
conflicts, both have had a an actual impact on soldiers mental health. In addition, infantrymen are
most likely to experience at least one event as a minimum that may result in PTSD than any other
divisions in the military. According to Walter Reed Army Institute of Research, Major Gary Wynn
provides statistics shows that 93 percent report coming under fire from artillery, rockets, and mortars.
91 percent say their unit has been attacked or ambushed. 87 percent say they know someone who has
been seriously injured or killed (Robson 2012). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although PTSD is a somewhat new diagnosis that was related with military service members when it
was first introduced. During a period roughly from the end of the Second World War to the early
1990s, neither epidemiology, medical geography, nor medical sociology tended directly to study the
impact of the local social or physical environment on human health, according to Perspectives in
Medical Sociology (Brown 2008). PTSD was accepted everywhere when it was introduced as a
diagnosis in the early 1980s in the third edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental
Disorders (DSM III) of the American Psychiatric Association. Although PTSD diagnosis met largely
with skepticism by the public of the validity of the illness when first came out. Blair Wheaton and
Shirin Montazer provided a detailed definition of Traumatic Stress in their chapter of Stressors, Stress,
and Distress by stating, some stressors are thought to be so serious and so overwhelming in their
impact that we must give them a separate status to distinguish them from the usual class of events that
we designate as stressful. The most applicable term for these stressors is traumas (Wheaton Montazer
2010). In other words, PTSD is a complex mental disorder that develops in response to exposure to a
severe traumatic event that stems a cluster of symptoms. Being afflicted with the disorder is
debilitating and disrupt an individual s ability to function and perform the basic tasks. PTSD affects
3.5 percent of the U.S. adult population and approximately about 7 million Americans. Women
however are more likely to develop PTSD than men, and about 37percent of those cases are classified
as severe. Although PTSD can occur at any age, however the average is in the early 20s in person s

The Importance Of Bicycle And Helmet Safety
People ride bikes for various reasons. Some people ride bikes for fitness purposes, some ride bikes to
get from place to place, and some ride bikes to clear their mind after having a long day. Whether you
ride for fun or for sport it is important to know the factors that go into bicycle and helmet safety. A
study in 2014 shows that 103.7 million people rode a bike that year and 34 percent of Americans age
three or older rode a bike at least once in that year ( Study: 103.7 Million Americans Ride Bikes ). The
importance of bicycle safety cannot be underestimated. According to the 2008 Alabama Traffic Crash
Facts, there were 182 bicycle crash injuries and four fatalities. In 2008, children 14 and under
accounted for 27% of the bicycle crash injuries. Bicycle helmets are 85% 88% effective in preventing
head and brain injuries; however, only 20% 25% of all bicyclists wear bicycle helmets ( Bicycle
Safety ). One of the first factors that go into bicycle and helmet safety is learning how to ride a bike.
Many people learn how to ride a bike when they are four or five years old and some do not learn until
they are older (Donaldson). Learning how to ride a bike is the first and most important step because
without knowing how to ride a bike you will not know what type of bike you will need.
The first step when learning how to ride a bike is to make sure you are in a suitable location. Starting
off on grass or smooth gravel helps since falls there hurt less. These surfaces make

Relationship Between a Country s Economic Growth and Its...
Economic growth is the increase in the capacity of a country s economy to produce goods and
services. As a means of development and urbanisation, and a reflection of wealth and the living
standard in a nation, it remains a key focus of most governments. In this course of action, water bodies
may be polluted and contaminated due to waste (e.g. sewage and chemical waste) generated from
different sectors of the economy. However, water pollution is not inevitable despite a country s focus
on economic growth, and in fact can be mitigated and controlled. A prominent example would be that
of Singapore. Singapore is a highly developed market economy, with the 3rd highest GDP/capita in
the world of $51,709.45 USD (2012). It has been ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Industrial wastewater is to be treated to specified standards regulated by the the Environmental
Protection and Management (Trade Effluent) Regulations before being discharged into a sewer or
watercourse. Furthermore, to ensure that these standards are met, industries which generate large
quantities of acidic effluent, such as the aforementioned photochemical industries, are required to
install devices to monitor the acidity of discharge into public sewers. The PUB has also installed a
system to monitor the amount of chemicals in the sewers. Laws have been enacted such that offenders
who do not meet such requirements and cause water pollution via improper disposal of untreated
wastewater will be fined and jailed for up to 3 months, acting as an effective deterrent. Therefore, it is
evident that water pollution is not an inevitable result of economic growth (caused by the chemical
industry), as demonstrated in the example of Singapore, and through proper management and
treatment of waste products, the fate of water pollution can in fact be controlled. With economic
growth comes an increased quality of life including one s living environment etc. This brings about
greater access to products and facilities which will culminate in an increased consumption of goods
and ultimately, a larger percentage of domestic waste. 6.5

Cause And Effect Of The Arctic Sea Ice
People know that Human driven climate change (Fiona Harvey, November 25, 2017) has become an
international issue which has triggered to warm air temperature. The Arctic, the regions around the
North Pole, has huge ice. Since the more the temperature rises, the more ice melt, climate change and
the ice melt have extremely a strong connection. Furthermore, a lot of species live below the sea of the
Arctic, also there are some people who place their home in this area. As a result, global warming leads
to the change of the Arctic sea ice condition which influences the environment and the people of the
Arctic.
Arctic sea ice has responsibility for stopping the rise of temperature on the earth; however, the
expanse of the ice has been decreasing. Arctic sea ice has a significant element on the earth. The ice
plays a role of lowering the sea and air temperature like air conditioner (Stevens, F. 2016) by
reflecting the heat of the sun back to the universe. This means the ice has the ability of regulating heat.
However, the air conditioner has not been working as much as people expect. According to Science
Daily, the amount of the Arctic sea ice in 2017 has gotten smaller, 7 million square kilometers in
1970s and 1980s to 4.7 million square kilometers, and the ice thickness has decreased thirty percent
compared to between 2001 and 2004 (Alfred Wegener Institute, September 15, 2017). The reduction
of the ice extent causes not to fulfill a function as the air conditioner In

Welfare State Turning Points 1830-1948
So, one may argue the creation of the welfare state is the turning point 1830 1948. The term welfare
state represented a new concept of how the state should relate to the people and was developed by the
1945 Labour government. It was heavily influenced by a report in 1942 Social Insurance and Allied
Services published by William Beveridge. The report was a response to the existing problems of
poverty as he set out to attack the five giants : want, squalor, disease, ignorance and idleness. The
report produced a comprehensive manifesto of social reform, proposing that the social security system
cover the whole population with benefits available to support people facing any crisis disrupting their
normal income: unemployment, sickness, disability, death of the ... Show more content on

There was still some confusion around the scheme and disbelief all around. For instance, Aneurin
Bevan was forced to engage in a fierce two years battle with the British Medical Associations about
doctors participating in the a national health service. In addition, by March 1948, 13% still saw the
NHS as a bad idea. Although 61% did see the NHS as a good idea which is a large portion of the
population. So, while not all poverty eradicated it was a huge leap in the right direction. Therefore the
new welfare state was a radical turning point because the state were responsible at a national level to
provide social security for the whole population no one was excluded. This meant that not only the
richest sections of society would benefit but also the poorest sections everyone could benefit from
welfare provision, particularly from family allowances and the National Health Service. Therefore, the
welfare state is the turning point in provision for the

I Am My Friend, Named Dakota
A year and a half ago I decided to end my relationship with not only my boyfriend at the time, but also
my best friend, named Dakota. We both went to the same high school and went on numerous double
dates but not with each other. However once we were single a mutual friend thought it would be a
good idea to finally hook us up, but I was afraid nothing was going to work out considering I was still
a senior in high school and he was a freshman in college. However I decided to take the chance and go
on a date, and to my surprise it was one of the best dates of my life. Everything between us clicked,
we had the same interest to similar personalities, and since that date we were irresistible. Dakota and I
were known as the power couple, my friends where jealous of our relationship and I could not be
happier. In my mind I really thought I found the person I was going to spend the rest of my life with,
and we were both ready for that commitment, since I received a promise ring from him stating that
were going to make it through college together, and then settle down. The first couple of months of
college were difficult for both of us, but we made it through by seeing one another every other week.
However it was not until spring semester of my freshman year when things started to change. I noticed
Dakota becoming more over protective, especially after I found a good group of friends who wanted
to go out every weekend and party. Due to this my feelings for him started to fade,

Richard II By Richard IIi
Richard II s subjects become increasingly aware of his corrupt ruling, yet they do nothing to
overthrow Richard II because they strongly believe in his divine right to rule. John of Gaunt, Richard
II s uncle, along with the rest of his subjects, allow Richard II to get away with murder and other
questionable acts because he is their king anointed by God. Gaunt reveals he knows that Richard II
played a part in killing John s brother to remain king: God s is the quarrel; for God s substitute, His
deputy anointed in His sight, Hath caused his death: the which if wrongfully, Let heaven revenge: for I
may never lift An angry arm against His minister (Richard II II.ii.37 41)
The Duchess of Glouster advices Gaunt to seek revenge upon Richard II, but Gaunt refuses to take
action and says that the need to leave the punishment up to God: put we our quarrel to the will of
heaven (Richard II I.ii.6). Gaunt is not fearful of what King Richard II could do to him, but of what
God might do to him because he believes Richard II to have been given his position by the grace of
God, therefore Gaunt must stand back and let God eventually handle Richard II s punishment. At the
beginning of the play, John of Gaunt was an advocate for anything that Richard II did; however,
towards the end of the play a transition has occurred and Gaunt starts to view Richard II in a different
manner. Bolingbroke has returned and laid his stake on the English crown, causing Gaunt and some of

Alone Together By Sherry Turrkle Analysis
How many people can tell they live without any technology for their daily lives? Now, people live in
the society where they cannot communicate without technology. In the modern society, a newly
invented technology gets a power to control and lead the trends. According to New York Post, Apple
reported that newly launched iPhone X, which has been sold at the price of $999, sparked a record
quarterly revenue of $88.3 billion and pushed the cost of an average iPhone to $796. That is 15%
above the average price a year earlier (Vega, 2018). Through this short two sentences, it is detected
that how people are enthusiastic about technology s development and transition. As technology has

In her essay, Turkle takes about the use of robots and technologies, and how those have been impacted
the development of human beings. Alone Together can be divided into two parts. The first half of the
book is about the development of social robots and how those robotic technologies are applied in
human life. Turkle shares the results of the research of how robotic toys, such as Furby and
Tamagotchi, affect children and adolescents. Through some examples and historical events of
technology, she explains how the robot has been developed and enhanced for people, especially
younger generation, started to think the robot not much as machine, but more as friends. The
definition of human changed throughout the decades: while human was special because they can
think, after thinking computer had been launched and disseminated, human became special because
they can feel . On the other hand, the second half of the book is all about social networks formed on
the Internet, and how human beings are exposed to the online world. Turkle explores the increasing
dependence on the online world and discusses about how human beings disentangle their lives in the
real world and the online world. She also emphasizes the communication between each other.
Increasing in using digital devices to communicate, people lose personal connections between each
other and are connected through voice; it means that people lose voice to associate with

The document, Harriet Jacobs Deplores Her Risks in Being a Female Slave, 1861, describes how
female slaves during her time period felt towards slavery and how it was like to grow up as a slave.
According to Harriet Jacobs document, she started off as an innocent child, unaware of what happens
around her and how harsh slavery actually can be. This changes as she grows up and her life becomes
more and more miserable due to her status as a slave. By the time Jacobs reaches fifteen and starts to
enter adulthood, her master would continuously harass her in numerous ways treating her as property.
Being a slave, she had no way of defending herself from how she was treated and no means of running

From Undoing Gender By Judith Butler
Judith Butler s approach in From Undoing Gender lets the audience see a different side of opinions
regarding gender. Judith s presence and way of speaking lets us look at things in a way we never had
before. She demonstrates her way of thinking, acknowledges other peoples ways of thinking and also
goes outside the box in creating her own definition of undergoing gender. When we look up gender in
the dictionary it states Although it is possible to define gender as sex, indicating that the term can be
used when differentiating male creatures from female ones biologically, the concept of gender, a word
primarily applied to human beings, has additional connotations more rich and more amorphous having
to do with general behavior, social interactions, and most importantly, one s fundamental sense of self.
When I define gender I automatically define it as being a boy and girl or male and female. People
define gender in so many ways, but it is in the way that we think more outside of the box based on
people s opinions, that make us wonder more. Gender is defined in Undoing Gender in an act of
improvising within a scene of constraint, where one that is always within a social context, and never
outside of the ideology. Butler expresses that Undoing Gender expresses an understanding of how
restrictively normative conceptions of sexual and gendered life might be undone. She stresses
throughout the reading that this process of undoing is not something that is negative or

The 6th Millennium BC Bandkeramik Culture
After the last ice age, the European continent was transformed as climate warmed and sea levels rose.
Increased rainfall and warmer temperatures allowed communities to depend more on plant foods and
exploit their surroundings. Communities took advantage of new resources and grew in size and
complexity as hunter gatherers became farmers. Farming spread into Europe from Southwest Asia.
Both DNA analysis of European skeletal remains and domesticated plant and animal species confirm
that migration of farmers helped spread agriculture into Europe. The first farming settlements
mainland were established around 6500BC in east central Greece on settlement mounds. As
populations outgrew the lowland basins, communities moved to adjacent sites with ... Show more

500BC, Bandkeramik was replaced by regional groups defined by their pottery types as well. Rossen
and Michelsberg in the west and Lengyel in the east. The Trichterbecher culture is best known for
their funnel necked beakers. Megalithic, or large stone, monuments are another characteristic of the
Neolithic transition. Stonehenge in southern Britain is one of the most famous. Chambered tombs also
became common containing the remains of hundreds of people. The Carnac area in southern Brittany
contains clusters of impressive monuments including stone rows and adjacent burial mounds. Many
axes that were found within these mounds have been compared using spectroradiometric analysis and
are tracked back to other regions throughout the continent. Another prominent 6th millennium BC

Carlingford Lough Case Study
Results Overview
We created a theoretical food web for Carlingford lough based on binary links, using species records
consisting of 154 species, 674 links, a linkage density of 4.48 and a connectance of 0.0248 (Figure 2).
The fundamental food web properties of Carlingford fell within 95% confidence intervals of webs of
similar species richness (S) (n=12, between 126 170 nodes Appendix 2), based on food webs listed in
the food web catalogue by Riede et al. (2009).

The Three little pigs and Rumpelstiltskin Once upon a time the Wolf was trying to blow down the Pigs

where he could get a wrecking ball and knock the houses down. The pigs heard him while he was

Prisoners Receiving Transplants
As the prison population in America grows in numbers and increases in age, questions and debates
about the allocation of medical resources to prisoners will grow in urgency. One issue which arises
every so often is whether convicted felons, especially those who are awaiting capital punishment,
should receive the same level of medical care as others in society including scarce donor organs for
the purpose of transplantation. As is often the case, the debate over whether a death row inmate should
receive an organ transplant is not a single controversy, but rather several rolled into one. Being able to
address the larger question requires disentangling the smaller questions and examining each in turn.

This represents an important shift because it eliminates many of the potential problems and dangers
inherent in assessing the social and moral worth of other human beings. There is a long recognized
legal principle that while people who are not members of a community may deserve certain basic
rights and privileges, they do not necessarily deserve all of the rights and privileges accorded to
members. Thus, non members have rights to life, liberty, free speech, etc., but they do not have the
right to vote.
There is very little debate over whether this principle is valid in general, but there is quite a bit of
debate over just what qualifies as basic, minimum rights and privileges which everyone should have,
regardless of their membership or citizenship status. This is especially true when it comes to health
care because there is such a wide range of possible treatments available to people.
Should prisoners receive only the very minimum necessary to keep them comfortable? Should
expensive diagnostic and treatment options be made available to them? Where exactly should the line
be drawn? If a prisoner does receive a lower standard of medical treatment and is later found to be
innocent, what sort of responsibility do the state and society bear if he now leaves prison sicker than
when he entered? Most people

Avoiding Scholarship or Grant Schemes Essay example
Avoiding scholarship or grant scams can be as simple as the student makes it. The internet is a
powerful tool for business, so students can t just avoid it because of a few crooks or conmen even if
they do seem like they re behind every pop up window and banner ad. When looking for scholarship

personal identification numbers. It s not that hard, students just have to look out for the warning signs.
They must keep in mind that these warning signs, of course, are only for a handful of the frauds and

Students only usually need to hand out some of this information when they have received the
scholarship or grant. This is only because most scholarships are taxable because they look at it as a
source of income, but when they go file for taxes they can more than likely get it written off for
educational purposes. There are a few other simple warning signs that students and consumer must
keep in mind. For example if the organization sounds like a non profit but has no traceable history.
This means that the organization sounds like its not getting a profit but probably is . Also consumers
or students cant check it out and see because they have no traceable history. Basically like the site or
organization doesn t really exist they just want them to feed them personal information so they can

this should be a warning. Never trust anything that seems too good to be true. All in all, scams are
easy to avoid. Now that the warning signs are out there, avoiding scams and conmen should be easier.
Just remember the golden rule, mentioned previously in the essay, if they have to pay money to get

Factors Affecting The Growth Of A Developed Countries
10) Urbanization in the less developed countries has much been the result of demographic growth that
rather than economic development like in developed countries. The demographic trend of rapid
declines in death rates compared to birth rates has generated large increases in population. A Lot of the
urbanization of developing country populations is due to rural urban migration. The decision to
migrate mainly involves push and pull factors . Push factors such as bad economic, political, and
environmental circumstances force migrants out of rural areas. Pull factors may include a desire for
employment and the idea of better access to schools, health clinics, piped water and other facilities
that are not widely available in rural regions. which attract migrants to urban areas. Displacement,
political circumstances and war related conflicts have also led migrates to urban areas. The
disproportionate number of youth in these migrations bring forth another component of urban growth,
natural increase. Natural increase refers to a rise in population because the birth rates are higher than
the death rates. Natural increase accounts for about 60 percent of urban population growth in less

NMDA Receptor Lab Report
Introduction Background
The N methyl D aspartate (NMDA)receptor is an ionotropic glutamate receptor that is highly
associated with human neuronal diseases like epilepsy and developmental delay. When the NMDA
receptor is activated by glutamate and glycine, the NMDA receptor opens and allows the passage of
positively charged ions like sodium and potassium. The activity of this receptor is important for
synaptic transmission and communication between nerve cells. Furthermore, the NMDA receptor

NMDA receptor, while the other two subunits can be GluN2A, GluN2B, GluN2D, or GluN3A and

Why Did The Treaty Of Versailles Fail
After the conclusion of World War One, Germany agreed to the terms of the Treaty of Versailles which
imposed large restrictions on Germany s ability to rebuild. One major imposition of the treaty was
reparations equivalent to £6,600,000,000 that was to be payed to France, Britain and America to pay
for damages dealt during the war. By 1923, Germany was struggling to pay reparations to France, as
there economy was already struggling with a lack of able workers, which lead to the French invasion
of the Ruhr; this was especially effective as the Ruhr and the Saar coalfields were major contributors
to the German effort to rebuild their economy and the German military was hugely limited by the
treaty. In the occupation of the Ruhr, German workers ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Also, because of a lack of majority in the Reichstag, the government was indecisive and struggled to
pass laws with split intentions between political parties with influence in the Reichstag. The German
people also longed for their return as a strong power after the loss of the German Empire as the Kaiser
fled after World War One; the leadership of a Kaiser was considered strong and the German people
thought that if they returned to being led by a person of power, they could be a strong nation again.
In conclusion, the Treaty of Versailles was largely responsible for the problems facing the Weimar
government in 1923 as it prompted the Ruhr Crisis, Hyperinflation, attempted rebellion as to oust the
Weimar and a general disrespect for the government. Although, the problems facing the government
was largely brought about by the weak structure of the Reichstag and poor decisions made by German
economists which contributed to the hugely damaging

The Most Dangerous Game Analysis
In the short story, The Most Dangerous Game , Richard Connell uses multiple devices to create
suspense that readers may not be aware of. He uses figurative language, imagery, and the pacing of his
story to keep readers on the edge of their seats. In this short story, a hunter named Sanger Rainsford
meets General Zaroff, a friendly middle aged man on Ship Trap Island. The general later reveals his
true character through his gruesome actions. Figurative language is used greatly throughout this short
story. When one of Rainsford s comrades, named Whitney, asks Captain Nielsen about Ship Trap
Island, Whitney calls him fishy and worried at the time. Though when the yacht passses the island, he
admits that he feels the evil energy radiating from it. In addition to that, when Rainsford finally
reaches the island, he claims that he is safe from the sea. On the yacht, Whitney declares that Captain
Nielsen s fishy blue eyes held a look ... never saw there ... . (Connell, page 1) Even the seafaring
captain was terrified of Ship Trap Island! This is comparing Captain Nielsen s blue eyes to a fish s
eyes. His eyes are suspicious and he is alert for any possible signs of danger to his yacht or crew. The
captain is taking extra precautions to ensure that they don t land on the deadly island, which causes the
readers to wonder what is so dreadful about Ship Trap Island. When Rainsford reaches the island, he
claims that he is finally safe from the sea. He realizes this from the muttering

Riding Horses And Western Horses
When you decide to start riding horses, you need to choose a discipline. Although versatility is
perfectly fine, you will most likely want to focus on one type of riding. The two main types of
horseback riding are english and western. The following is a guide to english riding. The Horse
English type horses are usually leggier and more athletically built than the stockier western horses.
They are built uphill, which means that their withers are higher than their backs. Horses of any breed
can be ridden english, but the breeds that excel in this discipline are: thoroughbreds, warmbloods,
gaited horses, and Arabians. Stock breeds, such as Quarter Horses and Paint Horses usually do better
when ridden western. The Gaits The gaits in english riding are faster than those of western. The three
main gaits of english horses are: walking, trotting and cantering. The walk is obviously the same as
western, but english horses often hold their heads higher than western horses. This isn t a matter of the
horse s spirit, but the western horses are trained to carry their heads a little lower. The horse s trot is a
fast, up down gait. The english rider will either sit or post to the trot. The canter is even faster than the
trot, and it is a three beat gait. The rider will rock their body to go with the movement of the horse.
Many people refer to it as the rocking chair gait. The Rider English riders tend to sit up more on the
front of their pelvis, while western riders tend to

Online Gaming Addiction Using Official Mental Disorder Essay
Kuss and Griffiths (2011) This study suggest that excessive gaming may actually lead to symptoms
that substance addicts commonly experience from their abuse of different drugs. Games usually apply
to children, adolescents and young adults. These groups are at higher ricks for developing gaming
addiction because they are still growing. The review wants to present the classification basis of online
gaming addiction using official mental disorder frameworks (Kuss Griffiths 2011). To also identify
other studies that go into detail about online gaming addiction in children and adolescents, also show
the findings and pit them against related mental disorder criteria.
The empirical review in this study shows first how much children and adolescents have put into
gaming over time. In 2010, both video and PC game software retail sales amounted to approximately
$15.5 (US) billion (as cited in Johnson, 2011). Games now have the ability to create massive worlds
that let players develop their own alter egos and avatars as they see fit. Having the whole world to join
into with anyone one at any time at any location that the user sees fit; making extremely massive
committees that grow day to day. Making these games fully immerse in a virtual reality setting, in
which the world can be shape as those deemed it to be shaped. A recent systematic literature review

The Age Of Spiritual Machines
In The Age of Spiritual Machines, Ray Kurzweil forecasts the future with advancements based on the
accelerating increase in technology intelligence. Kurzweil makes a series of predictions starting at the
year 2009 and going to 2099 with several main categories including warfare. In 2009 Kurzweil
predicts that humans are generally far removed from the scene of battle and that warfare is dominated
by unmanned intelligent airborne devices (Kurzweil 197). The use of technology has definitely
increased in warfare and has saved tens of thousands of human lives. Kurzweil believes that the
human element in fighting wars will become obsolete. Instead of humans fighting in the field, they

This is due to the fact that a war that consists entirely of machines would be impossible to fund,
humans will always have the instinct to fight, and today we do not have the technology enabling
machines to be able to make ethical decisions that humans can. The ability to fund a war consisting
entirely of machines would be an impossible feat for the wealthiest nations, let alone one severely in
debt like our own. The United States is currently experiencing a national debt of over $18.4 trillion
which is continuing to rise at an unprecedented rate(usdebtclock.org). At a cost of approximately $40
million dollars the U.S. has developed the RQ 1 Predator drone (militaryfactory.com). Although it
does play an important role in today s warfare, with the national debt continuing to rise there is no
way the United States [could continue being] the world s dominant military power by producing an
army of machines as Kurzweil foresees. Some might say that spending in the military has never
stopped us before why should it now? If we increase our spending in the military by such a degree we
will reach our debt ceiling just as we did in October of 2013 essentially causing a government
shutdown. This is why we continue to see the use of humans in war simply because humans are the
most economical way to fight a war and to remain the world s dominant military power. We are all
taught that fighting is bad and to stay away from any form of physical

Essay on Foreclosure Crisis In America
It is evident that the housing deficit is just a layer of the many problems we are suffering from during
the hard times in our economy. Foreclosure is indeed a horrific word that is haunting homeowners
across the US. Because of the situation in the current economy, millions of Americans have been
plagued by foreclosing on their homes and are left to find new location for themselves and their
families to live. Recently in Detroit, with the efforts to negate the current standings, they provided
housing aid. According to the housing statistic, the housing aid drew crowds in Detroit. One in four
working age adults in Detroit are without a job and the city s home foreclosure rate continues to be
among the nation s highest. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The problem is there is inevitably a lack of housing, due to homelessness and influx of people.
Without enough housing, the prices of the homes will be very expensive; however, if there is not a
balanced mix of luxury and affordable housing, those already living there will be forced to leave
because they will not be able to maintain taxes and other increases that will be tacked on to housing
expenses. In order to make this process a bit more feasible, New York created the Inclusionary Zoning
program. This program required that developers set aside a certain percentage of units in a new
development as affordable units. The issue with this zoning ordinance is that although it was stated as
a requirement the city kept it as a voluntary process. With the ordinance being voluntary and
developers with a capitalist mentality, many developers opted out of adhering to the ordinance.
Although the residents of New York may not be in the power broker or decision making classification,
many of its inhabitants have been there for many years. Unless there are efforts to make this ordinance
mandatory, there will be much opposition to keep new development out.
There is by no means a simple solution to solving the home foreclosure epidemic but there are many
changes that can be made to help Americans across the globe. The first, I believe starts

Argumentative Essay On Meat
Meat is under attack in our society today. The media is full of articles highlighting the negative effects
of meat, an army of people are trying to tarnish the reputation of meat in any way possible. More
people are cutting meat from their diet now then ever before. I guess you could say then that meat is
not in a good place. I recently read an article on the negative effects of meat on the human body and
on the environment. The essay was good and the argument compelling by the time I finished reading I
was almost persuaded to give up eating meat and live the vegetarian life style. I spent sometime
mulling over the idea of giving up my some of my favorite foods, what it would be like to never again
taste a warm, tender juicy steak, or bite down it to a succulent buffalo burger. I decided that if I was
going to change my life in such a drastic way I had to be sure that the benefits were all that people
worked them up to be. Did I give up meat then and join the ranks of the vegetarian? While researching
the topic I found that although meat does have many negative effects these effects come from over
eating and gorging ourselves on meat. If meat is eaten in moderation it actually has positive effects on
the body. The nutriance found in meat is vital to help the body function properly, maintain brain tissue
and make our minds sharper and more alert. Meat is an essential part of our diets and should be eaten
(in moderation) by every one who wants to live the healthiest life

Total Serum Protein Determination Lab Report
Introduction
Total serum protein determination is a standard clinical test that is often used for the diagnosis of
diseases involving the kidneys, liver or bone marrow and other metabolic or nutritional disorders1.
Blood plasma contains approximately 7% proteins by weight and the fluid that remains after the
clotting factors are removed from the plasma is the serum2. Albumin and globulin are the most
common blood proteins, and the total protein is the combined measure of the two3. The most
abundant protein is albumin, which acts as a carrier of many different molecules in the blood and
helps maintain blood volume2. The globulin proteins include many enzymes and elements of the

This method is a chromogenic test that uses biuret reagent to detect the presence of peptide bonds in
blood serum12. The active ingredients in the reagent are sodium hydroxide, potassium sodium tartrate

temperature is indicative of the presence of proteins and peptides in the blood serum12. A coloured
coordination complex forms when the copper ions (Cu2+) binds to the deprotonated nitrogen atoms
that form the peptide bonds of the amino acids12. Reactions can also occur between Cu2+ and the
nitrogen in the amide groups and the imidazole rings12. The colour intensifies after a period of
incubation as the alkalinity of the solution increases and more deprotonated nitrogen atoms become

Proper Level Of Segregation Between Audit And Non Audit...
Abstract
Abstract:The purpose of this research paper is to discuss the proper level of segregation between audit
and non audit services, to ensure independence and instill public confidence. In the wake of numerous
accounting scandals of Enron, WorldCom, etc, the importance of auditor independence has been
brought to the forefront of the accounting profession. The U.S. Public Company Accounting Oversight
Board (PCAOB) has taken a strict stance on auditor independence, which signifies that an auditor
cannot provide business advisory services without impeding their autonomy. However, an analysis of
the current auditor client relationship reveals contradictions to the interpretation of absolute auditor
independence. In recent developments, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For instance, AICPA s Code of Professional Conduct contains over 200 pages of interpretive guidance
on the topic of independence alone. The AICPA and PCAOB stress heavily on the importance of
auditor independence, and for good reason. Financial statement users trust independent auditors ability
to obtain reasonable assurance about whether the financial statements are free of material
misstatement, whether caused by error or fraud. (AU C 200.06) Auditor independence is required to
instill public confidence in U.S. financial markets. Thus, the Public Company Accounting Oversight
Board (PCAOB) has a strict view on independence in both fact and appearance. In AU 220.01,
PCAOB states that an auditor must be without bias with respect to the client. More specifically, an
independent auditor must be free from any obligation to or interest in the client, its management, or its
owners. (AU 220.03) This strict interpretation of auditor independence was adopted as a means to
restore public confidence in U.S. financial markets following the Enron, Waste Management, and
other frauds in the early 2000 s. Unfortunately, the concept of strict auditor independence may be
impossible in today s public accounting environment. There are several environmental factors that
influence perceived auditor independence. The underlying fee structure for accounting firms that audit
public companies prohibits complete auditor client

which are much larger, thus it tries to differentiate itself by offering healthy alternatives to its

Radio Stations Of New Zealand
There are more radio stations in New Zealand per head of population than any other country in the
world. This means individual stations need to jostle for their unique positioning in the market. One
way to evaluate the similarities and differences between radio stations is to conduct a Content
analysis. Radio stations define their market positionings through differences in structure, talk focus,
announcing style, music, advertisements, self promotion, competitions, types of callers and news
information. We can see this by contrasting Mediaworks hip hop station Mai FM to New Zealand
Media and Entertainment s (NZME) boomers station Coast.
First developed by Harold Lasswell in 1927, Content analysis was initially a way of studying
propaganda in the mass media (Macnamara, 2011). The methodology has evolved over the years, but
the most basic way to describe content analysis is that it summarises any form of content by counting
various aspects of the content (Franzosi, 2008). According to Berelson (as cited in Macnamara, 2011)
some purposes of content analysis include to discover certain trends in communication texts, to
compare media and how they communicate and to predict the effects of content on audiences. The
reason I am using content analysis as oppose to more systematic and objective approaches is that it
allows me to develop precise explanations concerning trends in media content whereas impressionistic
approaches are better for describing the content, as there is no

The plot of Mamma Mia was moved around to accommodate ABBA s music rather than to leave a few
out. These songs are not only recognizable but catchy too. They also appeal to various age groups,
creating a larger audience. Slipping Through My Fingers plays with your heartstrings as it tells the
story of a mother s love for her daughter. Dancing Queen makes you want to get up and dance along.
The soundtrack keeps the plot from becoming boring, with a musical performance around each

The Lymphatic System
The health of our lymphatic system is vital to the health of our whole body. This system is critical to
our body s ability to detoxify and regenerate tissues, filter out toxins and foreign substances, recover
crucial substances that have escaped from the blood, and maintain a healthy immune system.
[pic]
The Lymphatic system keeps the water of the body clean, and the pumping of the nodes during
Lymphatic massage stimulates the production of various white blood cells and thus boosts the immune
system. It is ideal for assisting the body during a cleanse or fast, as the nodes are where cell debris,
and bacteria are broken down and processed, and invading organisms and disease cells are neutralized.

This edema would causes tissue destruction or death, the problem is avoided by the presence of
lymphatic vessels that act as drains to collect the excess fluid and return it to the venous blood just
before it reaches the heart.
Manual lymphatic drainage is a massage focused on the moving and draining of the lymph from the
extremities into the nodes for processing and ultimately elimination. The natural movements of the
body, such as walking, standing, deep breathing and rigorous exercise all aid the lymphatic process
but correct massage more fully augments the finer workings of the lymph system. As there is not a
pump in the system (like the heart in the circulatory system) the lymph is moved through the vessels
when the surrounding skeletal muscle contracts, (physical activity). If there is a reduction of activity
or if the system is overloaded through diet or pollutants, the lymph system becomes stagnated and the
body is more prone to infection.
Manual lymphatic drainage massage can be performed in a variety of ways. There is lymphatic pump
manipulation done with a machine. There is superficial lymphatic drainage focusing on the vessels
and the lymph lying just below the surface of the skin, and there is deep tissue lymphatic drainage. In
a deep tissue massage, the movements are applied from the extremities toward the heart stimulating
the lymphatic circulation. While the blood is being returned to the heart

Theme Of Stream Of Consciousness
The Stream of Consciousness was introduced by William James over 100 years ago. It means that our
consciousness moves ahead with continuity. James suggested that this theme can serve as a major
focus for psychology. (James, 1890). Isn t it strange, though, that psychology almost never speaks of
this dimension? We might talk about emotions, perceptions, actions or desires, but almost never about
the inner thought flow.
James foresaw the difficulty of studying these phenomena. He stated that to capture the Stream of
Consciousness conceptually was like trying to study a moving river by capturing it in a bucket.
Another metaphor that he proposed: It s like trying to try to study a snowflake by capturing it in your
hand. Conceptual language ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In their examples, cited as classical works of the Stream of Consciousness, (Joyce, 1914; Woolf,1925),
the thought sequences seems to be like mental tourism, with thoughts jumping from island to island
(or from theme to theme) in a helicopter. In contrast, the three people sharing their Impasse, in the
article Three Extracts, show a deep level of continuity and profundity in their inner sequences. In fact,
their revelations manifest a particular courage in presenting thoughts that can be found universally, but
that would almost never be revealed to another person because they show a deep personal truth of
anxiety, humiliation or self worthlessness. As a literary analogy, the three extracts they are closer to
Kafka than to Joyce and

Essay on Employee Relationship of British Airways (Ba)
Employee Relationship of British Airways (BA)
• Brief description of organisation
British Airways happens to be the ninth largest airline in the world, in terms of the number of
passengers it carries. At the international level, it operates to more destinations than any other airline
and therefore is considered as an airline possessing the strongest network in the international market.
At present, it is operating to 167 different destinations in 87 different countries around the globe
(British Airways Plc and British Caledonian Group plc, 2002).
British Airways has the major advantage of being based in a premier location, i.e. London Heathrow,
which is considered the heart of the European air travel and is a major business hub. ... Show more

Collectivism, like individualism, has two extremes ranging from willing cooperation at one end to a
grudging acceptance at the other (Farnham D, 1993, p36 7) It is important to understand that no
company is strictly individualist or collectivist and the links between the two employee relations are
not incompatible with each other. Overall, BA has the collectivist approach because large emphasis is
on the group. One such example is the nurturing of cabin crew. Families of staff are created to work
the same shift patterns. This was pursued to encourage mutual support, make cabin crew feel
comfortable about their working environment, and as a result, facilitate the production of emotional
labour (I Grugulis and A Wilkinson, 2001, p13).
#61656; Unitary or pluralist management styles?
As for a particular type of Management style in practice, this is difficult to say, as there is overlap
between the two main categories; unitary and the pluralist. BA has some of the characteristics of the
unitary approach in the sense that the different departments consist of teams of people working
together towards common aims and there s a presence of strong leadership to create loyalty. Strong
emphasis is placed on employee training, which BA takes very seriously in order to create

Examples Of Trickster Archetype
Tricksters The Merriam Webster English dictionary defines an archetype as a perfect example of
something . A trickster is one who exhibits a great degree of intellect or secret knowledge, and uses it
to deceive others or disobey conventional rules. The trickster archetype appears frequently in literary
and non literary pieces due to its ability to add suspense and amusement to a story. Loki, for example,
a popular example of a trickster; the Norse fire god s image was preserved for centuries in different
stories. This was due to his ability to bring a sense of drama into tales. Three lesser known trickster
archetypes that I would like to talk about are, Ekwensu an African god of trade, Kitsune the mythical
Japanese tricksters, and Br er Rabbit, the classical American fairy tale trickster. ... Show more content

There, the Igbo people once worshipped a deity known as Ekwensu. Now largely misrepresented as
Satan, Ekwensu served as the God of Bargains, and was symbolized by the tortoise due to its crafty
nature in Igbo folklore. Cunning at trade and negotiations, he is often invoked for guidance in difficult
mercantile situations. Like most Trickster Gods, the deity was a force of Chaos and Change, thus in
his more violent aspects, Ekwensu was also revered as a God of War and Victory who ruled over the
wicked spirits and the chaotic forces of nature. His companion was Death. He was the testing force of
Chukwu, who is seen as his polar opposite, and along with Ani the Earth goddess, and Igwe the Sky
God, serves as one of the three highest deities of the ancient Igbo people. An example of his cunning
is provided in a story called Day and

The Causes Of The Protestant Reformation
The Protestant Reformation regarded the followers of the Catholic Church finally rebelling and
realizing all of the corruption happening in the Church. The Protestant Reformation took place in the
16th century and led to the revolutionization of Europe. The Reformation sparked the Scientific
Revolution, Industrial Revolution, and the Enlightenment. The Reformation s challenge to Church
authority revolution Europe because people did not accept earlier authorities, questioned earlier
authorities thoughts, and started to think for themselves and said that God was not always the answer.
During the Scientific Revolution, questioning applied to the natural world led to yielding the full
understanding of nature. Copernicus was someone that questioned the natural world; he did not follow
what people said before him without question. Copernicus question mathematicians in 1543 because
he wanted to understand astronomy better. Other ways, questioning the natural world happened when
people started to interrogate nature. Interrogating nature means: observing what is there and ask
questions about it. In 1628, William Harvey wanted to know more about how the heart worked, so to
gain the new knowledge he performed vivisection and observed his findings. Vivisection means
dissection of a living animal. William Harvey found that blood is continuously pumped by the action
of the heart from the vena cava to the arteries and from the arteries to various organs, the pulse drives
the blood to

The Perception Of Beauty Has Changed Over Time
The perception of beauty has changed over time, and it has become more and more apparent that
individuals with a slim, athletic physic are the more desired. It was not until the late nineteenth
century that individuals began to turn to diet pills to help assist in their weight loss journey. The first
dietary pill became available to people during this time, and there are referred to as, fat reducers, the
basis on thyroid extract helped increase metabolic rate. The pills were believed to be an effective form
of weight decline. However, this was proven to be otherwise and only caused severe to chronic side
effects including increased heart rate, abnormal heartbeats, weakness, fatigue, chest pains, high blood
pressure, and even death. Although the risks were significant, this early form of weight management
had been available among individuals until the mid 1960. As this type of weight loss continued, in the
1930 s amphetamines had become the drug of preference. The stimulant was most popular because
soldiers were administered the drug during World War II to keep them alert. One of the major critical
side effects was appetite suppression, and the drug was being prescribed in the United States to assist
people to lose weight. The highly addictive drug had caused some rather adverse psychological and
neurological effects making these side effects more significant than the primary intention of weight
loss. Resulting in the prescription of aminorex fumarate, which was a treatment

  • 2. PTSD In Military Mental health illness is a major issue that several United States systems faces daily. Mental illness can contribute to high crime rates, suicide, drug addiction, mass shootings, prison overcrowding, and several other problems. This paper will discuss and examine mental health issues as it develops and result in Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) in the United States Military, and specifically how PTSD can result in suicide among military service members. PTSD is commonly and well known to infantry soldiers who were mostly deployed to Afghanistan and Iraq war between 2001 and 2003 due to an overwhelming and challenging environment. The war in Afghanistan and the invasion of Iraq conflicts, both have had a an actual impact on soldiers mental health. In addition, infantrymen are most likely to experience at least one event as a minimum that may result in PTSD than any other divisions in the military. According to Walter Reed Army Institute of Research, Major Gary Wynn provides statistics shows that 93 percent report coming under fire from artillery, rockets, and mortars. 91 percent say their unit has been attacked or ambushed. 87 percent say they know someone who has been seriously injured or killed (Robson 2012). ... During a period roughly from the end of the Second World War to the early 1990s, neither epidemiology, medical geography, nor medical sociology tended directly to study the impact of the local social or physical environment on human health, according to Perspectives in Medical Sociology (Brown 2008). PTSD was accepted everywhere when it was introduced as a diagnosis in the early 1980s in the third edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM III) of the American Psychiatric Association. Although PTSD diagnosis met largely with skepticism by the public of the validity of the illness when first came out. Blair Wheaton and Shirin Montazer provided a detailed definition of Traumatic Stress in their chapter of Stressors, Stress, and Distress by stating, some stressors are thought to be so serious and so overwhelming in their impact that we must give them a separate status to distinguish them from the usual class of events that we designate as stressful. The most applicable term for these stressors is traumas (Wheaton Montazer 2010). In other words, PTSD is a complex mental disorder that develops in response to exposure to a severe traumatic event that stems a cluster of symptoms. Being afflicted with the disorder is debilitating and disrupt an individual s ability to function and perform the basic tasks. PTSD affects 3.5 percent of the U.S. adult population and approximately about 7 million Americans. Women however are more likely to develop PTSD than men, and about 37percent of those cases are classified as severe. • 3. The Importance Of Bicycle And Helmet Safety People ride bikes for various reasons. Some people ride bikes for fitness purposes, some ride bikes to get from place to place, and some ride bikes to clear their mind after having a long day. Whether you ride for fun or for sport it is important to know the factors that go into bicycle and helmet safety. A study in 2014 shows that 103.7 million people rode a bike that year and 34 percent of Americans age three or older rode a bike at least once in that year ( Study: 103.7 Million Americans Ride Bikes ). The importance of bicycle safety cannot be underestimated. According to the 2008 Alabama Traffic Crash Facts, there were 182 bicycle crash injuries and four fatalities. In 2008, children 14 and under accounted for 27% of the bicycle crash injuries. Bicycle helmets are 85% 88% effective in preventing head and brain injuries; however, only 20% 25% of all bicyclists wear bicycle helmets ( Bicycle Safety ). One of the first factors that go into bicycle and helmet safety is learning how to ride a bike. Many people learn how to ride a bike when they are four or five years old and some do not learn until they are older (Donaldson). Learning how to ride a bike is the first and most important step because without knowing how to ride a bike you will not know what type of bike you will need. The first step when learning how to ride a bike is to make sure you are in a suitable location. Starting off on grass or smooth gravel helps since falls there hurt less. These surfaces make ... • 4. Relationship Between a Country s Economic Growth and Its... Economic growth is the increase in the capacity of a country s economy to produce goods and services. As a means of development and urbanisation, and a reflection of wealth and the living standard in a nation, it remains a key focus of most governments. In this course of action, water bodies may be polluted and contaminated due to waste (e.g. sewage and chemical waste) generated from different sectors of the economy. However, water pollution is not inevitable despite a country s focus on economic growth, and in fact can be mitigated and controlled. A prominent example would be that of Singapore. Singapore is a highly developed market economy, with the 3rd highest GDP/capita in the world of $51,709.45 USD (2012). It has been ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Industrial wastewater is to be treated to specified standards regulated by the the Environmental Protection and Management (Trade Effluent) Regulations before being discharged into a sewer or watercourse. Furthermore, to ensure that these standards are met, industries which generate large quantities of acidic effluent, such as the aforementioned photochemical industries, are required to install devices to monitor the acidity of discharge into public sewers. The PUB has also installed a system to monitor the amount of chemicals in the sewers. Laws have been enacted such that offenders who do not meet such requirements and cause water pollution via improper disposal of untreated wastewater will be fined and jailed for up to 3 months, acting as an effective deterrent. Therefore, it is evident that water pollution is not an inevitable result of economic growth (caused by the chemical industry), as demonstrated in the example of Singapore, and through proper management and treatment of waste products, the fate of water pollution can in fact be controlled. With economic growth comes an increased quality of life including one s living environment etc. This brings about greater access to products and facilities which will culminate in an increased consumption of goods and ultimately, a larger percentage of domestic waste. 6.5 ... • 5. Cause And Effect Of The Arctic Sea Ice People know that Human driven climate change (Fiona Harvey, November 25, 2017) has become an international issue which has triggered to warm air temperature. The Arctic, the regions around the North Pole, has huge ice. Since the more the temperature rises, the more ice melt, climate change and the ice melt have extremely a strong connection. Furthermore, a lot of species live below the sea of the Arctic, also there are some people who place their home in this area. As a result, global warming leads to the change of the Arctic sea ice condition which influences the environment and the people of the Arctic. Arctic sea ice has responsibility for stopping the rise of temperature on the earth; however, the expanse of the ice has been decreasing. Arctic sea ice has a significant element on the earth. The ice plays a role of lowering the sea and air temperature like air conditioner (Stevens, F. 2016) by reflecting the heat of the sun back to the universe. This means the ice has the ability of regulating heat. However, the air conditioner has not been working as much as people expect. According to Science Daily, the amount of the Arctic sea ice in 2017 has gotten smaller, 7 million square kilometers in 1970s and 1980s to 4.7 million square kilometers, and the ice thickness has decreased thirty percent compared to between 2001 and 2004 (Alfred Wegener Institute, September 15, 2017). • 6. Welfare State Turning Points 1830-1948 So, one may argue the creation of the welfare state is the turning point 1830 1948. The term welfare state represented a new concept of how the state should relate to the people and was developed by the 1945 Labour government. It was heavily influenced by a report in 1942 Social Insurance and Allied Services published by William Beveridge. The report was a response to the existing problems of poverty as he set out to attack the five giants : want, squalor, disease, ignorance and idleness. The report produced a comprehensive manifesto of social reform, proposing that the social security system cover the whole population with benefits available to support people facing any crisis disrupting their normal income: unemployment, sickness, disability, death of the ... For instance, Aneurin Bevan was forced to engage in a fierce two years battle with the British Medical Associations about doctors participating in the a national health service. In addition, by March 1948, 13% still saw the NHS as a bad idea. Although 61% did see the NHS as a good idea which is a large portion of the population. So, while not all poverty eradicated it was a huge leap in the right direction. Therefore the new welfare state was a radical turning point because the state were responsible at a national level to provide social security for the whole population no one was excluded. This meant that not only the richest sections of society would benefit but also the poorest sections everyone could benefit from welfare provision, particularly from family allowances and the National Health Service. We both went to the same high school and went on numerous double dates but not with each other. However once we were single a mutual friend thought it would be a good idea to finally hook us up, but I was afraid nothing was going to work out considering I was still a senior in high school and he was a freshman in college. However I decided to take the chance and go on a date, and to my surprise it was one of the best dates of my life. Everything between us clicked, we had the same interest to similar personalities, and since that date we were irresistible. Dakota and I were known as the power couple, my friends where jealous of our relationship and I could not be happier. In my mind I really thought I found the person I was going to spend the rest of my life with, and we were both ready for that commitment, since I received a promise ring from him stating that were going to make it through college together, and then settle down. The first couple of months of college were difficult for both of us, but we made it through by seeing one another every other week. However it was not until spring semester of my freshman year when things started to change. I noticed Dakota becoming more over protective, especially after I found a good group of friends who wanted to go out every weekend and party. Due to this my feelings for him started to fade, ... Gaunt is not fearful of what King Richard II could do to him, but of what God might do to him because he believes Richard II to have been given his position by the grace of God, therefore Gaunt must stand back and let God eventually handle Richard II s punishment. At the beginning of the play, John of Gaunt was an advocate for anything that Richard II did; however, towards the end of the play a transition has occurred and Gaunt starts to view Richard II in a different manner. On the other hand, the second half of the book is all about social networks formed on the Internet, and how human beings are exposed to the online world. Turkle explores the increasing dependence on the online world and discusses about how human beings disentangle their lives in the real world and the online world. Judith s presence and way of speaking lets us look at things in a way we never had before. When we look up gender in the dictionary it states Although it is possible to define gender as sex, indicating that the term can be used when differentiating male creatures from female ones biologically, the concept of gender, a word primarily applied to human beings, has additional connotations more rich and more amorphous having to do with general behavior, social interactions, and most importantly, one s fundamental sense of self. When I define gender I automatically define it as being a boy and girl or male and female. People define gender in so many ways, but it is in the way that we think more outside of the box based on people s opinions, that make us wonder more. Gender is defined in Undoing Gender in an act of improvising within a scene of constraint, where one that is always within a social context, and never outside of the ideology. Butler expresses that Undoing Gender expresses an understanding of how restrictively normative conceptions of sexual and gendered life might be undone. • 23. Why Did The Treaty Of Versailles Fail After the conclusion of World War One, Germany agreed to the terms of the Treaty of Versailles which imposed large restrictions on Germany s ability to rebuild. One major imposition of the treaty was reparations equivalent to £6,600,000,000 that was to be payed to France, Britain and America to pay for damages dealt during the war. By 1923, Germany was struggling to pay reparations to France, as there economy was already struggling with a lack of able workers, which lead to the French invasion of the Ruhr; this was especially effective as the Ruhr and the Saar coalfields were major contributors to the German effort to rebuild their economy and the German military was hugely limited by the treaty. In conclusion, the Treaty of Versailles was largely responsible for the problems facing the Weimar government in 1923 as it prompted the Ruhr Crisis, Hyperinflation, attempted rebellion as to oust the Weimar and a general disrespect for the government. He uses figurative language, imagery, and the pacing of his story to keep readers on the edge of their seats. In this short story, a hunter named Sanger Rainsford meets General Zaroff, a friendly middle aged man on Ship Trap Island. The general later reveals his true character through his gruesome actions. Figurative language is used greatly throughout this short story. When one of Rainsford s comrades, named Whitney, asks Captain Nielsen about Ship Trap Island, Whitney calls him fishy and worried at the time. Though when the yacht passses the island, he admits that he feels the evil energy radiating from it. In addition to that, when Rainsford finally reaches the island, he claims that he is safe from the sea. On the yacht, Whitney declares that Captain Nielsen s fishy blue eyes held a look ... never saw there ... . (Connell, page 1) Even the seafaring captain was terrified of Ship Trap Island! This is comparing Captain Nielsen s blue eyes to a fish s eyes. His eyes are suspicious and he is alert for any possible signs of danger to his yacht or crew. Although versatility is perfectly fine, you will most likely want to focus on one type of riding. The two main types of horseback riding are english and western. The following is a guide to english riding. The Horse English type horses are usually leggier and more athletically built than the stockier western horses. They are built uphill, which means that their withers are higher than their backs. Horses of any breed can be ridden english, but the breeds that excel in this discipline are: thoroughbreds, warmbloods, gaited horses, and Arabians. Stock breeds, such as Quarter Horses and Paint Horses usually do better when ridden western. The Gaits The gaits in english riding are faster than those of western. The three main gaits of english horses are: walking, trotting and cantering. The walk is obviously the same as western, but english horses often hold their heads higher than western horses. This isn t a matter of the horse s spirit, but the western horses are trained to carry their heads a little lower. The horse s trot is a fast, up down gait. The english rider will either sit or post to the trot. The canter is even faster than the trot, and it is a three beat gait. The rider will rock their body to go with the movement of the horse. Many people refer to it as the rocking chair gait. The Rider English riders tend to sit up more on the front of their pelvis, while western riders tend to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The United States is currently experiencing a national debt of over $18.4 trillion which is continuing to rise at an unprecedented rate(usdebtclock.org). At a cost of approximately $40 million dollars the U.S. has developed the RQ 1 Predator drone (militaryfactory.com). If we increase our spending in the military by such a degree we will reach our debt ceiling just as we did in October of 2013 essentially causing a government shutdown. Foreclosure is indeed a horrific word that is haunting homeowners across the US. Because of the situation in the current economy, millions of Americans have been plagued by foreclosing on their homes and are left to find new location for themselves and their families to live. Recently in Detroit, with the efforts to negate the current standings, they provided housing aid. According to the housing statistic, the housing aid drew crowds in Detroit. One in four working age adults in Detroit are without a job and the city s home foreclosure rate continues to be among the nation s highest. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The problem is there is inevitably a lack of housing, due to homelessness and influx of people. Without enough housing, the prices of the homes will be very expensive; however, if there is not a balanced mix of luxury and affordable housing, those already living there will be forced to leave because they will not be able to maintain taxes and other increases that will be tacked on to housing expenses. In order to make this process a bit more feasible, New York created the Inclusionary Zoning program. This program required that developers set aside a certain percentage of units in a new development as affordable units. The issue with this zoning ordinance is that although it was stated as a requirement the city kept it as a voluntary process. With the ordinance being voluntary and developers with a capitalist mentality, many developers opted out of adhering to the ordinance. Although the residents of New York may not be in the power broker or decision making classification, many of its inhabitants have been there for many years. Unless there are efforts to make this ordinance mandatory, there will be much opposition to keep new development out. There is by no means a simple solution to solving the home foreclosure epidemic but there are many changes that can be made to help Americans across the globe. The first, I believe starts ... More people are cutting meat from their diet now then ever before. I guess you could say then that meat is not in a good place. I recently read an article on the negative effects of meat on the human body and on the environment. The essay was good and the argument compelling by the time I finished reading I was almost persuaded to give up eating meat and live the vegetarian life style. I spent sometime mulling over the idea of giving up my some of my favorite foods, what it would be like to never again taste a warm, tender juicy steak, or bite down it to a succulent buffalo burger. I decided that if I was going to change my life in such a drastic way I had to be sure that the benefits were all that people worked them up to be. Did I give up meat then and join the ranks of the vegetarian? While researching the topic I found that although meat does have many negative effects these effects come from over eating and gorging ourselves on meat. If meat is eaten in moderation it actually has positive effects on the body. The U.S. Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB) has taken a strict stance on auditor independence, which signifies that an auditor cannot provide business advisory services without impeding their autonomy. (AU C 200.06) Auditor independence is required to instill public confidence in U.S. financial markets. Thus, the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB) has a strict view on independence in both fact and appearance. • 42. The Lymphatic System The health of our lymphatic system is vital to the health of our whole body. This system is critical to our body s ability to detoxify and regenerate tissues, filter out toxins and foreign substances, recover crucial substances that have escaped from the blood, and maintain a healthy immune system. [pic] The Lymphatic system keeps the water of the body clean, and the pumping of the nodes during Lymphatic massage stimulates the production of various white blood cells and thus boosts the immune system. It is ideal for assisting the body during a cleanse or fast, as the nodes are where cell debris, and bacteria are broken down and processed, and invading organisms and disease cells are neutralized. This edema would causes tissue destruction or death, the problem is avoided by the presence of lymphatic vessels that act as drains to collect the excess fluid and return it to the venous blood just before it reaches the heart. Manual lymphatic drainage is a massage focused on the moving and draining of the lymph from the extremities into the nodes for processing and ultimately elimination. The natural movements of the body, such as walking, standing, deep breathing and rigorous exercise all aid the lymphatic process but correct massage more fully augments the finer workings of the lymph system. As there is not a pump in the system (like the heart in the circulatory system) the lymph is moved through the vessels when the surrounding skeletal muscle contracts, (physical activity). If there is a reduction of activity or if the system is overloaded through diet or pollutants, the lymph system becomes stagnated and the body is more prone to infection. Manual lymphatic drainage massage can be performed in a variety of ways. There is lymphatic pump manipulation done with a machine. There is superficial lymphatic drainage focusing on the vessels and the lymph lying just below the surface of the skin, and there is deep tissue lymphatic drainage. In a deep tissue massage, the movements are applied from the extremities toward the heart stimulating the lymphatic circulation. While the blood is being returned to the heart ... • 43. Theme Of Stream Of Consciousness The Stream of Consciousness was introduced by William James over 100 years ago. It means that our consciousness moves ahead with continuity. James suggested that this theme can serve as a major focus for psychology. (James, 1890). Isn t it strange, though, that psychology almost never speaks of this dimension? We might talk about emotions, perceptions, actions or desires, but almost never about the inner thought flow. James foresaw the difficulty of studying these phenomena. He stated that to capture the Stream of Consciousness conceptually was like trying to study a moving river by capturing it in a bucket. Another metaphor that he proposed: It s like trying to try to study a snowflake by capturing it in your hand. Conceptual language ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In their examples, cited as classical works of the Stream of Consciousness, (Joyce, 1914; Woolf,1925), the thought sequences seems to be like mental tourism, with thoughts jumping from island to island (or from theme to theme) in a helicopter. In contrast, the three people sharing their Impasse, in the article Three Extracts, show a deep level of continuity and profundity in their inner sequences. In fact, their revelations manifest a particular courage in presenting thoughts that can be found universally, but that would almost never be revealed to another person because they show a deep personal truth of anxiety, humiliation or self worthlessness. As a literary analogy, the three extracts they are closer to Kafka than to Joyce and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Collectivism, like individualism, has two extremes ranging from willing cooperation at one end to a grudging acceptance at the other (Farnham D, 1993, p36 7) It is important to understand that no company is strictly individualist or collectivist and the links between the two employee relations are not incompatible with each other. Overall, BA has the collectivist approach because large emphasis is on the group. One such example is the nurturing of cabin crew. Families of staff are created to work the same shift patterns. This was pursued to encourage mutual support, make cabin crew feel comfortable about their working environment, and as a result, facilitate the production of emotional labour (I Grugulis and A Wilkinson, 2001, p13). #61656; Unitary or pluralist management styles? As for a particular type of Management style in practice, this is difficult to say, as there is overlap between the two main categories; unitary and the pluralist. BA has some of the characteristics of the unitary approach in the sense that the different departments consist of teams of people working together towards common aims and there s a presence of strong leadership to create loyalty. Strong emphasis is placed on employee training, which BA takes very seriously in order to create ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. Examples Of Trickster Archetype Tricksters The Merriam Webster English dictionary defines an archetype as a perfect example of something . A trickster is one who exhibits a great degree of intellect or secret knowledge, and uses it to deceive others or disobey conventional rules. The trickster archetype appears frequently in literary and non literary pieces due to its ability to add suspense and amusement to a story. Loki, for example, a popular example of a trickster; the Norse fire god s image was preserved for centuries in different stories. This was due to his ability to bring a sense of drama into tales. Three lesser known trickster archetypes that I would like to talk about are, Ekwensu an African god of trade, Kitsune the mythical Japanese tricksters, and Br er Rabbit, the classical American fairy tale trickster. ... Now largely misrepresented as Satan, Ekwensu served as the God of Bargains, and was symbolized by the tortoise due to its crafty nature in Igbo folklore. Cunning at trade and negotiations, he is often invoked for guidance in difficult mercantile situations. Like most Trickster Gods, the deity was a force of Chaos and Change, thus in his more violent aspects, Ekwensu was also revered as a God of War and Victory who ruled over the wicked spirits and the chaotic forces of nature. His companion was Death. He was the testing force of Chukwu, who is seen as his polar opposite, and along with Ani the Earth goddess, and Igwe the Sky God, serves as one of the three highest deities of the ancient Igbo people. The Causes Of The Protestant Reformation The Protestant Reformation regarded the followers of the Catholic Church finally rebelling and realizing all of the corruption happening in the Church. The Protestant Reformation took place in the 16th century and led to the revolutionization of Europe. The Reformation sparked the Scientific Revolution, Industrial Revolution, and the Enlightenment. The Reformation s challenge to Church authority revolution Europe because people did not accept earlier authorities, questioned earlier authorities thoughts, and started to think for themselves and said that God was not always the answer. During the Scientific Revolution, questioning applied to the natural world led to yielding the full understanding of nature. Copernicus was someone that questioned the natural world; he did not follow what people said before him without question. Copernicus question mathematicians in 1543 because he wanted to understand astronomy better. Other ways, questioning the natural world happened when people started to interrogate nature. Interrogating nature means: observing what is there and ask questions about it. In 1628, William Harvey wanted to know more about how the heart worked, so to gain the new knowledge he performed vivisection and observed his findings.
