Benefits Of Same Sex Marriage
Benefit of homosexual Marriage in the U.S.A
How do we look at the gay marriage? Did they have freedom in the U.S? What are their rights? In
1958, the supreme court of the United States said they can t support gay marriage. Through this
journey from that time until now, American change a lot of rules for the gay marriage as a legal
protection against discrimination, they can marry in at least seventeen states and adopt children
(Walter Frank 1).In additional they can get married at most in 36 states(Stewart, Catriona). I do not
look at the same sex marriage as a sin like a lot of religious people. Because they are human like me
just their hormones are different. Also, we live in a civilized country. They have rights to live like
others and have a normal life. The other thing people can t tell they should get married or not? In my
essay, I will argue how U.S.A gives a lot of rights to the gay people. I am not against of same sex
marriage. My purpose of this essay is to look at in general what are the gay rights for adopting a child,
job opportunity, and death and taxes rights. I want to discuss why I agree with the gay marriage and
how the U.S gives to the gay people a lot of rights. In the other words, homosexual people can express
their feeling without fear in the United States. Firstly, in the gay marriage, the question of adoption
always arises, making it one of the biggest issues. At the moment, Adoption in the gay community is
now legal in the United States. Adoption

Understanding Deaf And American Sign Language
While attending high school, I was seeking a foreign language to take. I had learned Spanish at a
young age from my family, my two choices were French and American Sign Language, if you read the
title of this paper you can safely assume that I chose the alternative. American Sign Language
intrigued me at a young age when my father gave me a sign language book that illustrated some
simple terms, ever since then it had always been a desire of mine to learn American Sign Language.
With that being said, when I first started sign language class in high school the teacher made it the
classes primary objective to understand the history of deaf culture. I soon learned that understanding
deaf culture is essential in being able to effectively ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Most often culturally deaf are either raised by a family with a deaf presence or they lost the hearing
early on and were exposed to the culture. On the other end of the spectrum, usually deaf individuals
that don t identify with the deaf culture typically have lost their hearing later in life or have been
raised by a family that does not know American Sign Language. According to a study out of Gallaudet
across all age groups, approximately 600,000 people in the United States (0.22% of the population, or
2.2 per 1,000) are deaf (Cole, Gallaudet University ). What data is more difficult to retrieve is the
amount of culturally deaf people there are in the United States, and how many are just simply deaf,
this is because there are clear variances between the two that you would may not be able to experience
when communicating with a deaf individual in American Sign Language, let alone conduct a study on
with essential data.
Now that it has been clearly established that there is deaf culture, lets discuss why deaf people are a
minority group worthy of further research and to be the epicenter of a project like this one. Deaf
individuals are singled out every day for not being able to communicate in the manner that the
majority of people do, though even within deaf communities there are very diverse groups. As pointed
out by Author Padden and Humphries:
Even within the population of Deaf people who use ASL, not surprisingly, there is

Cytokines And Antibodies-Protein Synthesis
Starts with environmental trigger such as sunlight expose which damage cells and cause apoptosis and
the release of nuclear antigens. These stimuli begin a reaction that leads to distrupting to other cells in
the body and exposure of their DNA, histones, and other proteins, particularly part of the cell nucleus.
In individuals with lupus, both B cells and T cells become overactive. The two main consequences of
this increased activity are the production of antibodies that recognize and destroy the body s own cells
and inflammation and can lead to long term, irreversible scarring. The body s sensitized B lymphocyte
cells will produce antibodies against these nuclear.
These antibodies clump into antibody protein complexes which stick to surfaces ... Show more content

The Infection Fighter B cells and T cells are two important components of the immune system. They
play a role in the inflammation associated with lupus. Both B cells and T cells associate immune cells
called lymphocytes. Lymphocytes help fight infection. B cells and T cells are involved in the immune
system s response to infection. Antigens are foreign bodies (such as bacteria and viruses) that
stimulate the immune system to produce autoantibodies. When a T cell recognizes an antigen it will
produce chemicals (cytokines) that cause B cells to multiply and release many immune proteins
(antibodies). These antibodies circulate generally in the bloodstream, recognizing the foreign particles

The Act of Sodomy in Florence during the Italian Renaissance
The Act of Sodomy in Florence During the Italian Renaissance During the Italian Renaissance, the
sexual environment of fifteenth century Florentine society is described as Florentine men partaking in
some kind of same sex experience. These same sex acts were not just wrong doings, but a fundamental
part of Florentine masculine identity. More specifically I will focus on sodomy, the act of anal or oral
sex, which can be heterosexual or homosexual. What I will be analyzing in this paper is the term
sodomy in fifteenth century Florence. The Church in Florence considered this act to be both criminal
and sinful and it will be presented through government documentations from Gene Brucker s
anthology The Society of Renaissance Florence: A Documentary Study. While the harsh treatment of
sodomy was generally due to religious beliefs, I believe the act of sodomy in Florence established the
harsh treatment it did not solely because of religious beliefs, but also due to social, moral, and
demographic features. According to documents within Brucker s anthology, the criticism against
sodomy is due to religion within the Florentine society. The government document titled Legislation
Against the Vice, dated 1418, states sodomy was ...so contrary to nature that the anger of the
omnipotent God is incited not only against the sons of men but also against the community... (Brucker
202). This assertion expresses how much Christian religion played into the treatment of sodomy.

Subject: Availability of Corporate Reorganization
Summary of Facts
Chris and Sue are 50 percent shareholders in BackBone personal service corporation. Backbone
provides chiropractic services in four separate offices, in four small towns: Troy, Union, Vista and
Willow. Chris is the main chiropractor in the Troy office, and Sue heads up the Vista office. Charlie,
the main chiropractor in the Willow office, does not see eye to eye with Chris and Sue on management
styles. Charlie is highly competent and well liked by patients and therefore indispensable in the eyes
of Chris and Sue. Chris and Sue may be willing to give Charlie control of the Willow office, but do
not want to lose the profits this office adds to BackBone. A corporate reorganization seems to be a
good alternative.
Issue and Conclusion
Is corporate reorganization an available option? If so, how should it be structured? What issues would
be associated with this alternative?
Corporate reorganization is definitely an available option. The company should be structured as a
parent subsidiary controlled group. The restructuring should be performed in conformance to any and
all tax saving codes and provisions.
Law and Analysis
With a divisive reorganization, BackBone can split off its Willow office as a new subsidiary
corporation that is controlled by BackBone. By placing Charlie in charge of the newly formed
subsidiary, Charlie

Judicial Diversity And Constitutional Interpretation
Judicial Diversity and Constitutional Interpretation
In David Kenny s article Merit, Diversity, and Interpretive Communities: The (non party) Politics of
Judicial Appointments and Constitutional Adjudication he argues that judicial diversity may result in a
broader interpretation of the Constitution. Kenny s article analysed the political nature of judicial
appointment and the impact it may have on Constitutional interpretation. Furthermore, the Kenny
argues that if the interpretive community of judging was more diverse, it would eventually lead to
more interpretations of the Constitution. I agree with Kenny s view, for example, if diversity among
the judiciary is lacking it is probable that ideas and perspectives will remain narrow within the
interpretive community. As a result, this paper ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In particular, life experiences fundamentally add to our development as human beings regardless of
cultural, educational and intellectual backgrounds. Moreover, which background one comes from is
irrelevant in the context of human development in relation to life experiences. For this reason, to
exclude this value from judicial appointment would be a mistake. As Schlag, comments Values are
regulative to the extent that they control or at least influence outcomes . What is more, a person s life
experience can be immensely beneficial in all walks of life including judicial appointment.
Consequently, to have a homogenous group in such an authoritative position, one must consider, is it
wrong to expect diversity within that group? Certainly, one must agree that fundamental training is
required for one to become a judge, however, not to the exclusion of life experience. Furthermore, in
my opinion the Constitution is a living thing and judicial diversity whether it is through political
appointment or not, is imperative for the development of constitutional

Death Depicted In Edgar Allan Poe s The Raven
When I read Edgar Allan Poe s The Raven , I was immediately captivated by the new angle brought to
my attention regarding death. While the topic of death is usually associated with either sympathy or
horror, Poe succeeded in portraying a feeling caught between the two; and at the same time bringing
forth new feelings I would never thought to consider regarding death. These feelings reflect a sorrow
so deep it morphs into a psychological madness, a feeling that the pain death brings has ruined one
forever. After analyzing this poem I came to the conclusion that Edgar Allan Poe s The Raven
demonstrates that the sorrow the death of a loved one brings will stay with you forever. Poe
communicated this theme through abstract language connotation, ... Show more content on

The first allusion I would like to point out is the phrase the night s Plutonian shore . This phrase comes
uses it when addressing the bird. The word plutonian is used here as an adjective, and the word is
referring to Pluto, Roman god of the underworld, or in other words, hell. Hell can be directly
associated with death, and even more, with an eternal suffering. Hell, according to the Roman
Catholic Church, is the place where souls burn eternally once they re dead. Therefore, the night s
Plutonian shore is an allusion that Poe has used to convey the eternal sorrow left after a loved one s
death. Of course, it can be acknowledged that this allusion isn t a direct or obvious connection to that,
but, in fact, it is this indirect connection Poe has realized that makes the allusion so fascinating in
itself. Another allusion Poe has presented in the poem is shown in these lines, these lines which I have
stated before: Quaff, oh quaff this kind nepenthe, and forget this lost Lenore! Here, the allusion is the
word nepenthe . Nepenthe is an ancient greek word, historically a medicine for sorrow, or the so called
drug of forgetfulness . It was first described in Homer s Odyssey . Here, the allusion is more direct.
The narrator is literally begging the fowl for this kind

Title: How much life insurance do I need?
Life insurance is a pretty big deal. It is definitely something that should be a priority in your life
because it will benefit you and your loved ones. If you re wondering about life insurance and are
questioning how much you need, then we have some answers for you.
The bottom line is this: how much life insurance you need depends on your overall needs. You
probably won t be able to pinpoint the exact amount of life insurance you should buy down the penny,
but you can definitely make a good estimate. In order to do this, you must consider your current
financial situation and imagine what your loved ones will need in the ... Show more content on

If you decide to name your trust as the beneficiary of your life insurance policy, different rules will
probably apply, but they might depend on your state s specific laws.
You can also create a life insurance trust in order to avoid leaving the ultimate decision up to the court
system. Life insurance trusts cannot be changed. All you can do it transfer the ownership of the policy
to the trust, or create the trust and then direct the purchase policy. Either way, the trust is named as
beneficiary and its assets are off limits to creditors. You can then set up your trust to transfer the death
benefits to the beneficiary of your choice. And, the best part is, your creditors cannot have the
proceeds.
Myths
There are some really common myths about life insurance that people get easily sucked into. Don t
believe something that isn t true take a look at these myths so you know what to avoid.
1. I m single and I don t have dependents, so that means that I don t need coverage.
This is downright false because everyone needs coverage. Even single people need enough life
insurance to at least cover the costs of personal debts, medical expenses, and funeral bills. If you re
not insured, then you might leave some unpaid expenses for your family or an

Keny The Oldest Human Fossils Ever Discovered
Kenya, known as the birthplace of humanity due to some of the oldest human fossils ever discovered.
Senior enlisted leaders must understand the importance of Kenya and how it can help stabilize the
region and prevent growth of terrorist networks. This brief will cover the background, government,
strategic importance, and future direction of Kenya.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION
Kenya is a country that resides on the east coast of Africa bordering the Indian Ocean, with Nairobi as
its capital and largest city. Kenya s elevation begins at sea level and rises to almost 5,200 meters to
Mount Kenya. Natural resources consist of salt, gemstones, zinc, limestone, and wildlife

Protestant, Roman Catholic, and Christianity account for approximately 82.5% of the religious
population. The remaining populace practice traditional beliefs such as animist; which is the belief
that all things have a soul or spirit. Traditional beliefs also come into conflict with European religions
due to the practice of polygamy. Many of the ethnic groups believe in the common element of
ancestral spirits between man and god. The Kikuyu, who are the majority of citizens, with several
other groups worship the god Nagi who resides on the top of Mt. Kenya. (everyculture, n.d.).
Traditional dance is an important part of Kenyan culture as is in many other African cultures. The
women and men usually dance separately, and perform line dances, some of which involve seeing who
can jump the highest. Dance is involved religious ceremonies, such as child naming, marriage
initiation into womanhood or manhood. Costumes are worn during the many traditional dances, as are
props: dancers often don masks and carry shields, swords, and other objects. The background
information of Kenya provides insights into the development of its government.
GOVERNMENT
Kenya is divided into eight provinces that enable its citizens to voice their constitutional rights and
elect representatives. The President is both chief of state and head of the government, chosen from
among the members of the National Assembly, and elected by popular vote

Lucius Cornelius Sulla Essay
Lucius Cornelius Sulla From a rather humble beginning Lucius Cornelius Sulla rose to become a great
politician and a powerful general in the Roman Republic. As a general, Sulla lead Roman armies to
many victories. As a politician he became a powerful dictator and yet was responsible for bringing
about many reforms. This essay will prove how he was a great dictator, politician and general, through
discussing his background, his military and political career, his dictatorship, and his accomplishments
in his later years. Sulla was born near Rome, into a politically unimportant patrician family in 138
B.C. He received a good education and lived a normal life. After his father died he was forced to live

The following year Sulla ran and was elected as praetor, the second highest position in the Roman
republic. After his term of praetor was up, he returned to the battle field. This time it was against
Mithridates, King of Pontus. Sulla did not have a full army with him so he had to recruit soldiers from
Roman allies. His ability to get these soldiers and to push Mithridates back, shows his great military
skills. This campaign was also important because it brought Rome into contact with the powerful
Parthia Empire. He was able to arrange a treaty with Parthia, which was a milestone for Sulla. This
would not be the last time he would meet Mithridates in battle. Soon Sulla and Marius again had to
forget there many differences to defend Rome against Allied Italian forces who had declared war on
Rome. They had set up their own government and were preparing to become an independent nation.
This war was known as the Social War because the Latin name for Roman allies was socii. It was
ended by a more important conflict, the invasion of a Roman province in Asia Minor by Mithridates.
The Romans and the Italians signed a peace treaty in 89 B.C. Soon the main focus for Rome was
Mithridates of Pontus in the east. In 88 B.C. Sulla was elected consul. The Senate also named him
commander of the forces against Mithridates. Marius had wanted this command for himself. After
Sulla left Rome Marius convinced the people s assembly to give him

My Career As AAthlete
Before racing shells, coxswains, and 5:00 am rowing practices, it was always sports that represented a
measure of success for me. From a young age I dreamed of joining the ranks of Division 1 collegiate
athletes all over the country and knew my success would be the direct result of my commitment to
training. Fast forward twenty years and the athletic career I have experienced has been nothing short
of successful. Rowing demanded more from me than I had ever demanded of myself and taught me
the power of perseverance. It instilled in me that my capabilities have no boundaries and laid the
groundwork for my success in business. The sport of rowing is relentless in its power to expose the
mental strength of athletes. Since the completion of my experience as a collegiate athlete, I have been
driven by a passion to further my career as a professional in sport. With the achievement of obtaining
a graduate degree, I know as I create new career goals, I will have the skills necessary to succeed in a
new chapter of life. While I have a strong background in collegiate sports, coaching, and sports
entertainment, I believe a Master s in Sport Management from the University of San Francisco will
provide me with the professional networks, specialized training, and management skills necessary to
reach my goals of transitioning into Sport Marketing and Event Management. I hope to explore the

Rate Of Osmosis
As suggested by the graph above and the data obtained through the conduction of the experiment, an
evident correlation between the surface area to volume ration and the rate of osmosis can be implied.
As can be seen from the graph, as the surface area and volume ratio of the cube is increased, the %
change in mass is decreased (as suggested by the % change in mass of 2 x 2 x 2 cube). In a
contradicting manner, as the SA: V of the potato cube in decreased, the % change in mass of the
potato cube in increased (as suggested by the % change in mass of 1 x 1 x 1 cube). This pattern in the
data reinforces the hypothesising statement, which stated that if the size of potato is larger, then the
rate of osmosis would be gradual due to its smaller volume to surface area ratio, whereas if the size of
the potato is smaller, then the rate of osmosis would be faster.
One explanation for the correlation between these variables is that an object with a large SA:V ratio
comprises of a smaller surface for the chemical/substance (salt solution) to move across, allowing
more compounds ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

% change in mass of the groups 1, 2, 3 and 5 range from 6 11% but the results of group 4 and 6 are
34.09 % and 0.99 % respectively. One probable explanation for this discrepancy in the results is that
the groups 4 and 6 may have conducted the experiment incorrectly. Potential factors that may have
caused these inconsistencies in results, include a damaged weighing scale and a damaged timer, which
could ve misled the experimenters of groups 4 and 6 by displaying the incorrect time. This would
mean that the potatoes were kept in the salt solution for more or less than 20 minutes, which would
explain the vast difference in the

Clinical Indicators For Heart Failure
Clinical Indicators for Heart Failure Heart disease is the leading cause of death in the United States
and the estimated cost of treatment is $32 billion yearly. Approximately 5 million people living in the
United States suffer from congestive heart failure (CHF) and half of those diagnosed will die within 5
years. The quality and length of life for someone suffering from heart failure can be improved with
early diagnosis, medication, physical activity, and diet modification (CDC, 2013). Congestive heart
failure continues to account for more health care cost and readmissions than any other illness. The
increase in the prevalence of CHF is contributed to the percentage of elderly population. Adherence to
performance measures can increase patient outcomes (Mazimba, Grant, Parikh, Mwandia, Makola,
Chilomo, Redko, Hahn, 2012). Performance Measures Improving quality of health care for patients
being discharged from the hospital with heart failure requires performance measures. A number of
cardiac care programs have combined improvement interventions with clinical indicators to close the
gaps between routine patient care and evidence based care (Hickey, Scott, Denaro, Stewart, Bennett,
Theile, 2004). Process indicators are mainly aimed at improving clinical activities and assess what the
health care team did for the patient (Wollersheim, Hermens, Hulscher, Braspenning, Ouwens,
Schouten, Marres, Dijkstra, Grol, 2007). In clinical indicators, the word process denotes

Random Acts Of Kindness, Altruistic And Prosocial Behavior
Comparison Matrix Paper Random acts of kindness, altruistic and prosocial behavior can elaborate to
being a hero. An elderly lady is standing in a grocery line fumbling through her bag to find the change
needed to complete her transaction, yet she ends up empty handed. A young man behind here hesitates
to ask if he could be of assistance, yet the heroic behavior would be to give her the amount needed to
complete the transaction, a prosocial behavior. Prosocial behavior is any act performed with the goals
of benefiting another person (Aronson, Wilson, Akert, 2010). This comparison matrix paper will show
the differences and similarities of the authors by comparing their introductions, the purpose of each
study, their research questions, the literature reviews, the sample population, study limitations, results
and conclusions, and suggested topics for future studies. Franco, Blau, and Zimbardo (2011) offer a
straightforward definition of heroism as to act in a prosocial manner without a personal gain. They
continue by explaining that only a few can reach heroic status and must be equipped with the proper
skills or luck. Whereas, Harvey, Erdos, and Turnbull (2009) defines heroism in their article s
introduction as a man or woman of distinguished bravery, a person who is reverenced and put on a
pedestal, or any famous person. These researchers find differences in opinions as to the definition of
heroism. Franco et al. (2011) argues heroes work without capital gains; whereas,

Contemporary Appretation Of Contemporary Interpretations...
Contemporary Interpretations of Sacred Scripture:
Good Morning Ladies and Gentlemen. I would like to begin by extending a warm welcome to todays
seminar that will dive into all things regarding religion and its place in a modern society. I will be
solely focusing on a contemporary expression that shows similarities and differences to a sacred text
of Christianity. So why is this of importance? The ever growing world we live in can often make it
difficult for traditions to be maintained in community s due to their arguably outdated form and
language. However, these values, messages and themes can be showcased and interpreted by viewers
in modern expressions such as film, song and poetry. The animated 2008 film Wall E, directed by
Andrew Stanton generally showcases the purpose of the story Adam and Eve. This is because of its
ability to teach the concept of straying from Gods way of life and the negative impacts leading a
greedy and consumerist lifestyle can have. The ways in which it showcases the ideas in both the parent
and derivative text can be seen in the interpretations of the central message as well as the context and
purpose of both pieces.
The central message of Wall E and the story of Adam and Eve is very similar. The story of Adam and
Eve reported in Genesis chapter two versus four until chapter three versus twenty four is commonly
associated with the teaching of the original sin, fall and death as well as human s decision in following
God s commands. Wall E

Lucky Luciano Gangster Characteristics
Charles Lucky Luciano

virtuous things for the world. Now, I want you to picture this person wasting his/her talents by making
unethical life decisions. Choices that caused harm to thousands of people. Now, imagine that the same
person, and they actually think that what they do is ethical and that they didn t waste their talent.
Would that be frustrating?
Charles Lucky Luciano was born in Sicily, Italy in 1897 and moved to New York City in 1906 with his

A visionary leader, in my eyes, can see past certain societal limitations to advance the work climate
and outlooks for all people he/she leads.
By 1929, Lucky was running the east coast s largest bootlegging empire and emerged as one of two
Italian Mob bosses in New York City. In 1931, after the murder of the boss of bosses, or the King of
all mobsters, he had to change the ways the mafia did business or he would certainly face the same
fate. He used his Creator traits along with Intellectual Stimulation to create a National Organized
Crime syndicate, even though full of corruption, its people embraced mutual trust and respect. Thomas
N. Barnes Center for Enlisted Education [BCEE] (2016b) defines a Creator as someone, who often
can generate fresh, original concepts and new ideas in ways that defy generally accepted structures or

Koon s Arguments Against Abortion
1. Case summary
A recently married couple is happily almost five months pregnant with a baby girl. The mother is a
diabetic and the plan has always been to deliver the baby one month early. They recently visited with
their obstetrician a couple of weeks ago for routine testing. The doctor informed the couple that their
baby is seriously defective which goes on to state that, even if she were to go to term the baby would
not survive but a couple hours or days. The doctor believes since the mother is diabetic, it is best to
induce her as soon as possible since the baby has nothing to lose and will not live long anyways
(Grisez, 1997, question 48).
The couple giving a few minutes to discuss their options were completely distraught over the doctors
thoughts and situation. They were against abortion and prolife friends had recommended the
obstetrician to the family. The doctor returns and they explain to him that they want their baby to be
born alive, do not believe in abortions and they want to be able to baptize their baby girl (Grisez,
1997, question 48). He tells the couple he is as well against abortions, but does not consider inducing
labor early as an abortion. He also goes on to explain ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
O Brien and Robert C. Koons would analyze this case differently. They would argue that it is wrong
for the obstetrician to induce labor early, because they believe it intends killing the child as a means of
saving the woman. Once a fetus/placenta is removed, the fetus is killed which is part of the doctors
intentions. Grisez would view this case as no intention to the baby s death. O Brien and Koons would
analyze it as intend to death. Intentions have to be defined from the agents perspective, in which can
be defined by considering social practices, physical laws and other factors outside the agents
perspective (O Brien Koons, 2012). O Brien and Koons analysis would state you can not intend to one

Gregorian Era
In the Middle Ages from 450 AD to 1450,AD nearly a thousand years begin the birth of Western
music and the arts. Unlike the music and arts from other eras the culture of arts and music was
enormously sacred and closed minded where only the wise could be involved with those. Even the
rich and the noble were unable to reach, but only the wise and educated ones were the only ones to
pursue. Therefore, most music during the medieval was in voice; although instruments were present,
they were unpopular and considered to be the evil. Most of the songs that were created were the
Gregorian chant and it becomes one major genre and considered to be a religious music that was used
to reflect their spiritual faith and belief. According to history, in the middle Ages, the Gregorian chant
is considered as the grandfather of all Western music. It all begins around early 450 AD during the

unaware of the unemployed intention while receiving the benefit. In unemployment insurance the two
parties are involved in contractual relationships, as their intentions contradict. The receiver of the
benefit is acting in a hazardous way and the insurer is fully on aware which makes the provision a
market failure.
The money being received for unemployment benefit is substantially high in Ireland. This means that
people are less willing to look for work as they have a good income already. Looking for work would
mean a loss of benefit or a reduce income due to tax which will reduce the incentive for a person to go
look for work. Due to Moral Hazzard the system of payment are structured with a view to ensuring
that the system of payments does not weaken the incentive of the unemployed to take on paid
employment. Income tax and social security contributions levied on earnings determine the employee
s net earnings, when unemployed a worker receives payments. If the gap between this is too much it
may affect the incentive to work. If the ratio is high then moral hazard increases as those who are
unemployed may cease to work.

Well, family can have many different definitions for different people. For example, when Emika first
received the bad news he wanted to meet with his friends, Instead, he called his friends and asked if
they wanted to meet up for beer and catfish at the popular Best Restaurant. (Unigwe). In this situation,
Emeka reaches out to friends to help cheer him up after the bad news, which is exactly what a family
member would do if you were sad about something bad happening. For many people friends are
considered family, or a part of their family because their friends would help them, give them courage,
and be there for them when they need it, which are all characteristics of a good family. This also
applies if you are are young. For instance, of the Syrian refugees coming to the US. more than half of
the arrivals are under 18. (Kennedy). Of these arrivals some may be coming alone, but that doesn t
mean that they don t have friends back home who believe in them or friends who live in the country
they are traveling to. If the refugees know that they have friends who believe in them, then, they are
more confident, and will have more courage to try something new

Thesis Of Half Earth
Half Earth by E.O. Wilson (2016) deals with the complicated nature of conservation. The book is
clearly written by a man who values every aspect of biodiversity, even to the point of disregarding
certain key arguments against protected areas. This paper will summarize Wilson s argument in Half
Earth, along with his suggested solutions. To close, the concept of making half the earth a protected
area has many positives and negatives that will be evaluated. Leakage, indigenous populations, and
possible habitat fragmentation are all issues around protected areas that will be analyzed. The fact of
the matter is that Wilson s argument is complicated by works by other academics and authors.

Effects Of Snap Judgement
Whether we admit it or not, we have a tendency to judge others. We generate perceptions about other
people without any hard facts. What we see on the surface seems to be enough for us to come up with
a quick assumption about that person that leads to fundamental attribution error. At a young age, I
have experienced the damaging effects of snap judgements. My family immigrated to the United
States from the Philippines when I was in middle school. As a preteen who has never been outside of
my birth country, I had severe culture shock. In addition to the new environment that I had to
familiarize myself with, I also couldn t speak English very well. My confidence was so low that I

What Is Beowulf A Heroic Archetype
The notion of heroes is one that transcends time and space. Examples of heroes appear in almost every
culture and time period since humans first started writing. Even the very first piece of literature
written in the English language, Beowulf, is a classic example of a heroic archetype. We can also see
examples of heroes in today s culture, such as in Bonnie Tyler s song Holding Out For a Hero and in
Tina Turner s We Don t Need Another Hero . Additionally, we make predictions of what we think
heroes may be like in the future, like in the movie Mad Max: Beyond the Thunderdome. Since heroes
appear in every culture, it s easy to see how important they are to society. What s harder to see is how
important society is to heroes. Societies put ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

out there/ Love and compassion, their day is coming/All else are castles built in the air/ And I wonder

there may have been a previous hero that let down this society. This is seen when she mentions
something to rely on, insinuating that they previously put their faith in something unreliable and since
the entirety of the song is about not needing heroes, it is a logical jump to assume that something was
a person. This quote also hints that love and compassion may be more important than heroes and that
without these qualities society will destroy itself. This is an interesting counterpoint to the entire
concept of having heroes in the first place and has a solid foundation in reality. However, it does not

A Brief Examination of the Immigration Refugee Board The Immigration and Refugee Board of
Canada is an independent tribunal established by the Parliament of Canada. Our mission, on behalf of
Canadians, is to resolve immigration and refugee cases efficiently, fairly and in accordance with the
law. ~Mission Statement of the Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada For various reasons, it may
become necessary to leave one s home country. Many people are attracted to Canada. Some people do
not leave their countries because of choice, but because of unjust persecution. Such persons are
referred to as refugees. There exists an administrative body that addresses the needs and rights of
refugees seeking relocation and settlement in Canada; this administrative body is called the
Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada. Refugees very often are in desperate situations that called
for cultural sensitivity and processing through legal avenues. The Immigration and Refugee Board of
Canada handles these duties. This paper will briefly examine this board, its decision making process,

Mandating Seat Belt Usage vs. Freedom of Choice SOC120: Introduction to Ethics and Social

that it is for your own good, but who has the right to decide what is or is not good for you? After all
who knows you better than you do? This brings me to the topic of my discussion. Even though there
are some statistics that may show a lower rate of injury or death if you wear a seat belt when in an

That no one has the right to decide what is right for them, and that no one should be able to mandate
what they have to or do not have to do. This topic is no different to them than say, flying in an
airplane. No one tells them that they have to fly in an airplane, which requires putting their life at risk,
yet they themselves make the decision to do so or not. According to our text, Utilitarianism evaluates
whether an act is right or wrong in terms of the act s consequences, and argues that, given a set of
choices, the act we should choose is that which produces the best results for the greatest number
affected by that choice. To break it down even further, the rule utilitarian contends that one should do
things that, as a rule, generate the greatest good for the greatest number (Mosser, K, 2010). I believe
this to be the philosophy that the government has taken into account when establishing the seat belt
mandate laws. They, being those who make these types of laws, are in fact looking out for what they
believe is the greater good for the majority involved. They are not taking into account our god given
freedom to make these types of choices for ourselves. On the other hand, those who oppose the
passage of this law error on the ethical egoism philosophy. This philosophy argues that our moral
evaluations should be made in terms of our desires and goals. Something that promotes what I want is

Water Molecules Research Paper
Why is water an important molecule? Intermolecular Forces
Water is one of the most important molecules as it creates and supports life on earth. Water covers
75% of the surface of the earth and around 78% of the mass of the human body (infoplease.com,
2000). Its abundance, unique properties, chemical and physical interaction are the reason behind its
importance. The chemical composition of water is H2O. It is a polar, covalently bonded molecule.
A covalently bonded molecule shares electrons between the atoms so each atoms outer shell is full.
Covalently bonded molecules are not partially charged, except for polar covalent bonds. Molecules
with polar covalent bonds have partial charges. Within the water molecule, the oxygen atoms unevenly
share the electrons since they have more protons. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Capillary action is a process where water molecules climb up a narrow tube / material due to kinetic

Jamestown and Plymouth Essay
The English had two main colonies in the new world, Jamestown and Plymouth. The first colony was
Jamestown, established in Virginia in 1607. Jamestown was settled by Captain John Smith, and was
named after King James I. Tobacco was the main export of Jamestown, and became the basis of the
Jamestown economy, sending more than 50,000 lbs of the plan back to Europe by 1618 (textbook 46).
Jamestown had a very rocky start, many colonists dying in the first few years of the settlement, and
the settlers had many problems with natives. Shortly after the arrival of English colonists the Natives
attacked them, and were finally forced back by a canon from the English. A very uneasy truce was

The Salem Witch trials, of Salem Massachusetts are known for their hypocrisy and unfair rulings. The
trials were the main conflict in the Plymouth colony, causing a scare between the colonists, making
them fear each other. Plymouth was set in stone in their ways, and if there was any one doing

themselves more with others than with the individual growth of themselves. The Jamestown Colony
was founded for economic wealth, in comparison to the Plymouth colony, which was settled for
religious freedom. Jamestown seemed to work as a single entity, expanding their tobacco trade and
growing the economy. The self interested colonists of Jamestown wanted land and money, which they
were promised if they worked hard in the tobacco industry. Many people who came from England
were indentured servants, promised food and sheltered during their seven years of work and a plot of

Summary Of Ethos Pathos Logos By Maggie Jackson
What are some ways you could persuade your reader to your opinion? One way is by using logos,
pathos, and ethos. What are logos, pathos, and ethos? Those three terms are modes of persuasion used
to convince your audience. In the essay Distracted: The Erosion of Attention and The Coming Dark
Age by Maggie Jackson. Maggie used those three concepts to help her argument because she hooks
the reader by convincing the audience, making the audience feel what she felt and lastly using logic or
reason.
Authors typically use pathos to make their reader feel what the author wants them to feel. For
example, Maggie says It s crucial that we better understand how our new high tech tools, from video

In certain people, the word of God falls like seeds falling amidst thistles. They are people burdened
with earthly labors, greedy after gain, and fond of pleasures. Like weeds growing up and choking up
the growth of seeds, vanity and desires for illusory comforts choke up everything good and holy in
people.
And, finally, people who accept and follow the word of God, changing their way of life in line with
the teaching of God s word, are compared to the fertile earth that yields manifold fruits. These people

and if they didn t get what they wanted they would use their firearms. With stronger and more

They sell drugs, rob people/stores and murder. Not all gangs are on the streets, some are underground.
The point is without guns on the streets, neighborhoods and cities will be a safer place to live. A big
controversy in congress is passing a law to Tax ammunition/bullets to a gun. This will not just help the
country from crime, it will help the economy. Today almost 65% of people own a gun and 50% have

Ezra-Nehemiah
The inspiration for Bede s reform program comes from a pattern that can be found in the book of Ezra
Nehemiah which can be conveniently divided into three sections. Each of these sections deals with a
similar situation and issues: a return from exile which includes projects of restoration and reform.
Today modern English translations of the Bible print the text of Ezra Nehemiah as two distinct books.
By having Ezra and Nehemiah as separate books was not always the way in which these texts were
written; they were traditionally combined into one book in the Hebrew and Greek Bibles. However, by
considering them as one document, it will help to make it much easier to understand the book in its

Bede begins by levelling a list of grievances that he has regarding the state of the episcopate in
Northumbria. According to him, the bishops were neglecting their duties such as preaching, teaching,
visitations, and confirmation. There was also a general decline in the moral behaviour of bishops.
Bede mentions this in his letter when he writes that they are given to laughter, jokes, idle tales,
feasting and drunkenness and other attractions of a loose way of life. Bishops would typically only
preach if they received money for it, which led to a spiritual impoverishment for the laity. The
laypeople lacked adequate instruction in the faith not only because of the waywardness of bishops but
also because there were not enough priests to give a good example to the laity to imitate. Another
abuse that Bede objects to is the unjust taxation of the lay faithful and any other forms of clerical
avarice. Many remote farms, hamlets, and small villages were neglected by their bishop; they were
still, however, expected to pay their ecclesial taxes. Bede also mentions that there simply are not
enough dioceses in Northumbria, which would help to resolve the laity s lack of spiritual education.
The reason why bishops were opposed to the creation of new sees is that larger dioceses...

God Reflection
Almost every day of my life, I ask myself the same question and that is: How will God be present in
my life today? The answer to this question changes every single day because God has a different plan
for me and all of the people that surround me. From what I have seen over the course of my life, I
have noticed that God s presence has always been there for me on my weakest days and my strongest.
During these times where I have experienced God watching over me, I feel that my relationship with
Him as strengthened and that my faith has grown as well. These moments in my life make me reflect
on what it truly means to have the presence of God in my life and how He helps me to grow and build
a deeper connection with those in my church, school, home, and especially the Holy Trinity. I know
that whatever I am doing today or tomorrow, wherever the path I am currently walking on takes me, I
should take just a moment to take in all that God has bestowed upon me. Over the course of my
existence my understanding and my beliefs about Christianity has tremendously changed because as
we grow older we have the ability to take in more knowledge than when we were young. When I was

Retirement Financial Planners
Many people would want to know how much money they need to retire. While this is a common
question financial planners such as Scott Storick deal with more frequently, there is usually no
definitive answer. It is not easy to determine how much you need when you retire, and it depends on
many factors and individual financial circumstances. Everyone has a different financial need for their
retirement, and what you may need will mostly likely be different from what other people need.
Nonetheless, while your individual situation may be unique, you can still estimate how much you need
to survive throughout your retirement age.

Some people may be looking forward to buy a new house or travel when they retire. Others may be
faced with health conditions that increase their healthcare cost. These are things that will stretch your
retirement financial kit and exhaust it even before long.
Examine your expected income expenses in retirement
It is paramount you examine the projected income expenses you will meet when you retire. You may
want to identify the streams of income you have including the social security, pensions, and bank
savings. Determine whether by the time you retire, you will have paid fully your mortgage or you will
still be paying it off.
Also find out whether you will be making large purchases such as buying a home or moving to
another location. Inflation may still take its toll on your savings, therefore make sure you account for
it. When you use the 80 percent pre retirement income rule and further subject it to these expected
income expenses, you are likely to come up with a more appropriate figure.
In the event that you don t have enough money saved for retirement, you should start planning on how
you will make changes. When it is a few years away from retirement, consider increasing your IRA
and 401k

  • 2. Benefits Of Same Sex Marriage Benefit of homosexual Marriage in the U.S.A How do we look at the gay marriage? Did they have freedom in the U.S? What are their rights? In 1958, the supreme court of the United States said they can t support gay marriage. Through this journey from that time until now, American change a lot of rules for the gay marriage as a legal protection against discrimination, they can marry in at least seventeen states and adopt children (Walter Frank 1).In additional they can get married at most in 36 states(Stewart, Catriona). I do not look at the same sex marriage as a sin like a lot of religious people. Because they are human like me just their hormones are different. Also, we live in a civilized country. They have rights to live like others and have a normal life. The other thing people can t tell they should get married or not? In my essay, I will argue how U.S.A gives a lot of rights to the gay people. I am not against of same sex marriage. My purpose of this essay is to look at in general what are the gay rights for adopting a child, job opportunity, and death and taxes rights. I want to discuss why I agree with the gay marriage and how the U.S gives to the gay people a lot of rights. In the other words, homosexual people can express their feeling without fear in the United States. Firstly, in the gay marriage, the question of adoption always arises, making it one of the biggest issues. At the moment, Adoption in the gay community is now legal in the United States. Adoption ... • 3. Understanding Deaf And American Sign Language While attending high school, I was seeking a foreign language to take. I had learned Spanish at a young age from my family, my two choices were French and American Sign Language, if you read the title of this paper you can safely assume that I chose the alternative. American Sign Language intrigued me at a young age when my father gave me a sign language book that illustrated some simple terms, ever since then it had always been a desire of mine to learn American Sign Language. With that being said, when I first started sign language class in high school the teacher made it the classes primary objective to understand the history of deaf culture. I soon learned that understanding deaf culture is essential in being able to effectively ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Most often culturally deaf are either raised by a family with a deaf presence or they lost the hearing early on and were exposed to the culture. On the other end of the spectrum, usually deaf individuals that don t identify with the deaf culture typically have lost their hearing later in life or have been raised by a family that does not know American Sign Language. According to a study out of Gallaudet across all age groups, approximately 600,000 people in the United States (0.22% of the population, or 2.2 per 1,000) are deaf (Cole, Gallaudet University ). What data is more difficult to retrieve is the amount of culturally deaf people there are in the United States, and how many are just simply deaf, this is because there are clear variances between the two that you would may not be able to experience when communicating with a deaf individual in American Sign Language, let alone conduct a study on with essential data. Now that it has been clearly established that there is deaf culture, lets discuss why deaf people are a minority group worthy of further research and to be the epicenter of a project like this one. Deaf individuals are singled out every day for not being able to communicate in the manner that the majority of people do, though even within deaf communities there are very diverse groups. As pointed out by Author Padden and Humphries: Even within the population of Deaf people who use ASL, not surprisingly, there is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

These stimuli begin a reaction that leads to distrupting to other cells in the body and exposure of their DNA, histones, and other proteins, particularly part of the cell nucleus. In individuals with lupus, both B cells and T cells become overactive. The two main consequences of this increased activity are the production of antibodies that recognize and destroy the body s own cells and inflammation and can lead to long term, irreversible scarring. The body s sensitized B lymphocyte cells will produce antibodies against these nuclear. These antibodies clump into antibody protein complexes which stick to surfaces ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Infection Fighter B cells and T cells are two important components of the immune system. They play a role in the inflammation associated with lupus. Both B cells and T cells associate immune cells called lymphocytes. Lymphocytes help fight infection. B cells and T cells are involved in the immune system s response to infection. Antigens are foreign bodies (such as bacteria and viruses) that stimulate the immune system to produce autoantibodies. When a T cell recognizes an antigen it will produce chemicals (cytokines) that cause B cells to multiply and release many immune proteins (antibodies). • 5. The Act of Sodomy in Florence during the Italian Renaissance The Act of Sodomy in Florence During the Italian Renaissance During the Italian Renaissance, the sexual environment of fifteenth century Florentine society is described as Florentine men partaking in some kind of same sex experience. These same sex acts were not just wrong doings, but a fundamental part of Florentine masculine identity. More specifically I will focus on sodomy, the act of anal or oral sex, which can be heterosexual or homosexual. What I will be analyzing in this paper is the term sodomy in fifteenth century Florence. The Church in Florence considered this act to be both criminal and sinful and it will be presented through government documentations from Gene Brucker s anthology The Society of Renaissance Florence: A Documentary Study. While the harsh treatment of sodomy was generally due to religious beliefs, I believe the act of sodomy in Florence established the harsh treatment it did not solely because of religious beliefs, but also due to social, moral, and demographic features. According to documents within Brucker s anthology, the criticism against sodomy is due to religion within the Florentine society. The government document titled Legislation Against the Vice, dated 1418, states sodomy was ...so contrary to nature that the anger of the omnipotent God is incited not only against the sons of men but also against the community... • 6. Annotated Bibliography On Tax Files Tax Research Memorandum Date: November 16, 2014 To: Tax Files From: Jonathan Ruhi Subject: Availability of Corporate Reorganization Summary of Facts Chris and Sue are 50 percent shareholders in BackBone personal service corporation. Backbone provides chiropractic services in four separate offices, in four small towns: Troy, Union, Vista and Willow. Chris is the main chiropractor in the Troy office, and Sue heads up the Vista office. Charlie, the main chiropractor in the Willow office, does not see eye to eye with Chris and Sue on management styles. Charlie is highly competent and well liked by patients and therefore indispensable in the eyes of Chris and Sue. Chris and Sue may be willing to give Charlie control of the Willow office, but do not want to lose the profits this office adds to BackBone. A corporate reorganization seems to be a good alternative. Issue and Conclusion Is corporate reorganization an available option? If so, how should it be structured? What issues would be associated with this alternative? Corporate reorganization is definitely an available option. The company should be structured as a parent subsidiary controlled group. The restructuring should be performed in conformance to any and all tax saving codes and provisions. Law and Analysis With a divisive reorganization, BackBone can split off its Willow office as a new subsidiary corporation that is controlled by BackBone. By placing Charlie in charge of the newly formed subsidiary, Charlie ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Judicial Diversity And Constitutional Interpretation Judicial Diversity and Constitutional Interpretation In David Kenny s article Merit, Diversity, and Interpretive Communities: The (non party) Politics of Judicial Appointments and Constitutional Adjudication he argues that judicial diversity may result in a broader interpretation of the Constitution. Kenny s article analysed the political nature of judicial appointment and the impact it may have on Constitutional interpretation. Furthermore, the Kenny argues that if the interpretive community of judging was more diverse, it would eventually lead to more interpretations of the Constitution. I agree with Kenny s view, for example, if diversity among the judiciary is lacking it is probable that ideas and perspectives will remain narrow within the interpretive community. What is more, a person s life experience can be immensely beneficial in all walks of life including judicial appointment. • 8. Death Depicted In Edgar Allan Poe s The Raven When I read Edgar Allan Poe s The Raven , I was immediately captivated by the new angle brought to my attention regarding death. While the topic of death is usually associated with either sympathy or horror, Poe succeeded in portraying a feeling caught between the two; and at the same time bringing forth new feelings I would never thought to consider regarding death. These feelings reflect a sorrow so deep it morphs into a psychological madness, a feeling that the pain death brings has ruined one forever. After analyzing this poem I came to the conclusion that Edgar Allan Poe s The Raven demonstrates that the sorrow the death of a loved one brings will stay with you forever. Poe communicated this theme through abstract language connotation, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The first allusion I would like to point out is the phrase the night s Plutonian shore . This phrase comes uses it when addressing the bird. The word plutonian is used here as an adjective, and the word is referring to Pluto, Roman god of the underworld, or in other words, hell. Hell can be directly associated with death, and even more, with an eternal suffering. Hell, according to the Roman Catholic Church, is the place where souls burn eternally once they re dead. Therefore, the night s Plutonian shore is an allusion that Poe has used to convey the eternal sorrow left after a loved one s death. Of course, it can be acknowledged that this allusion isn t a direct or obvious connection to that, but, in fact, it is this indirect connection Poe has realized that makes the allusion so fascinating in itself. Another allusion Poe has presented in the poem is shown in these lines, these lines which I have stated before: Quaff, oh quaff this kind nepenthe, and forget this lost Lenore! Here, the allusion is the word nepenthe . Nepenthe is an ancient greek word, historically a medicine for sorrow, or the so called drug of forgetfulness . It was first described in Homer s Odyssey . His ability to get these soldiers and to push Mithridates back, shows his great military skills. This campaign was also important because it brought Rome into contact with the powerful Parthia Empire. He was able to arrange a treaty with Parthia, which was a milestone for Sulla. This would not be the last time he would meet Mithridates in battle. Soon Sulla and Marius again had to forget there many differences to defend Rome against Allied Italian forces who had declared war on Rome. Rate Of Osmosis As suggested by the graph above and the data obtained through the conduction of the experiment, an evident correlation between the surface area to volume ration and the rate of osmosis can be implied. As can be seen from the graph, as the surface area and volume ratio of the cube is increased, the % change in mass is decreased (as suggested by the % change in mass of 2 x 2 x 2 cube). In a contradicting manner, as the SA: V of the potato cube in decreased, the % change in mass of the potato cube in increased (as suggested by the % change in mass of 1 x 1 x 1 cube). This pattern in the data reinforces the hypothesising statement, which stated that if the size of potato is larger, then the rate of osmosis would be gradual due to its smaller volume to surface area ratio, whereas if the size of the potato is smaller, then the rate of osmosis would be faster. One explanation for the correlation between these variables is that an object with a large SA:V ratio comprises of a smaller surface for the chemical/substance (salt solution) to move across, allowing more compounds ... • 14. Clinical Indicators For Heart Failure Clinical Indicators for Heart Failure Heart disease is the leading cause of death in the United States and the estimated cost of treatment is $32 billion yearly. Approximately 5 million people living in the United States suffer from congestive heart failure (CHF) and half of those diagnosed will die within 5 years. The quality and length of life for someone suffering from heart failure can be improved with early diagnosis, medication, physical activity, and diet modification (CDC, 2013). Congestive heart failure continues to account for more health care cost and readmissions than any other illness. The increase in the prevalence of CHF is contributed to the percentage of elderly population. Adherence to performance measures can increase patient outcomes (Mazimba, Grant, Parikh, Mwandia, Makola, Chilomo, Redko, Hahn, 2012). Performance Measures Improving quality of health care for patients being discharged from the hospital with heart failure requires performance measures. A number of cardiac care programs have combined improvement interventions with clinical indicators to close the gaps between routine patient care and evidence based care (Hickey, Scott, Denaro, Stewart, Bennett, Theile, 2004). Process indicators are mainly aimed at improving clinical activities and assess what the health care team did for the patient (Wollersheim, Hermens, Hulscher, Braspenning, Ouwens, Schouten, Marres, Dijkstra, Grol, 2007). • 16. Contemporary Appretation Of Contemporary Interpretations... Contemporary Interpretations of Sacred Scripture: Good Morning Ladies and Gentlemen. I would like to begin by extending a warm welcome to todays seminar that will dive into all things regarding religion and its place in a modern society. I will be solely focusing on a contemporary expression that shows similarities and differences to a sacred text of Christianity. So why is this of importance? The ever growing world we live in can often make it difficult for traditions to be maintained in community s due to their arguably outdated form and language. However, these values, messages and themes can be showcased and interpreted by viewers in modern expressions such as film, song and poetry. The animated 2008 film Wall E, directed by Andrew Stanton generally showcases the purpose of the story Adam and Eve. This is because of its ability to teach the concept of straying from Gods way of life and the negative impacts leading a greedy and consumerist lifestyle can have. The ways in which it showcases the ideas in both the parent and derivative text can be seen in the interpretations of the central message as well as the context and purpose of both pieces. The central message of Wall E and the story of Adam and Eve is very similar. The story of Adam and Eve reported in Genesis chapter two versus four until chapter three versus twenty four is commonly associated with the teaching of the original sin, fall and death as well as human s decision in following God s commands. The doctor informed the couple that their baby is seriously defective which goes on to state that, even if she were to go to term the baby would not survive but a couple hours or days. Moral hazard creates a disincentive to work and reduces the supply of labour in a country. Moral hazard is unobservable , this means the providers of insurance and benefit are totally unaware of the unemployed intention while receiving the benefit. In unemployment insurance the two parties are involved in contractual relationships, as their intentions contradict. The receiver of the benefit is acting in a hazardous way and the insurer is fully on aware which makes the provision a market failure. The money being received for unemployment benefit is substantially high in Ireland. This means that people are less willing to look for work as they have a good income already. Looking for work would mean a loss of benefit or a reduce income due to tax which will reduce the incentive for a person to go look for work. • 27. Mandating Seat Belt Usage vs. Freedom of Choice Essay example Mandating Seat Belt Usage vs. Freedom of Choice SOC120: Introduction to Ethics and Social Responsibilities 1 How do you feel when you are told what you will or will not do? You may be told that it is for your own good, but who has the right to decide what is or is not good for you? After all who knows you better than you do? This brings me to the topic of my discussion. Even though there are some statistics that may show a lower rate of injury or death if you wear a seat belt when in an automobile accident, I do not feel that the government has the right to make wearing a seat belt mandatory for adults because by making seat belts mandatory it takes away from our right to freedom of choice, and wearing a seat ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... That no one has the right to decide what is right for them, and that no one should be able to mandate what they have to or do not have to do. This topic is no different to them than say, flying in an airplane. No one tells them that they have to fly in an airplane, which requires putting their life at risk, yet they themselves make the decision to do so or not. According to our text, Utilitarianism evaluates whether an act is right or wrong in terms of the act s consequences, and argues that, given a set of choices, the act we should choose is that which produces the best results for the greatest number affected by that choice. To break it down even further, the rule utilitarian contends that one should do things that, as a rule, generate the greatest good for the greatest number (Mosser, K, 2010). I believe this to be the philosophy that the government has taken into account when establishing the seat belt mandate laws. They, being those who make these types of laws, are in fact looking out for what they believe is the greater good for the majority involved. They are not taking into account our god given freedom to make these types of choices for ourselves. On the other hand, those who oppose the passage of this law error on the ethical egoism philosophy. This philosophy argues that our moral evaluations should be made in terms of our desires and goals. • 28. Water Molecules Research Paper Why is water an important molecule? Intermolecular Forces Water is one of the most important molecules as it creates and supports life on earth. Water covers 75% of the surface of the earth and around 78% of the mass of the human body (infoplease.com, 2000). Its abundance, unique properties, chemical and physical interaction are the reason behind its importance. The chemical composition of water is H2O. It is a polar, covalently bonded molecule. A covalently bonded molecule shares electrons between the atoms so each atoms outer shell is full. Covalently bonded molecules are not partially charged, except for polar covalent bonds. Molecules with polar covalent bonds have partial charges. Within the water molecule, the oxygen atoms unevenly share the electrons since they have more protons. The ... Jamestown was settled by Captain John Smith, and was named after King James I. Tobacco was the main export of Jamestown, and became the basis of the Jamestown economy, sending more than 50,000 lbs of the plan back to Europe by 1618 (textbook 46). Jamestown had a very rocky start, many colonists dying in the first few years of the settlement, and the settlers had many problems with natives. The citizens concerned themselves more with others than with the individual growth of themselves. The Jamestown Colony was founded for economic wealth, in comparison to the Plymouth colony, which was settled for religious freedom. Jamestown seemed to work as a single entity, expanding their tobacco trade and growing the economy. The self interested colonists of Jamestown wanted land and money, which they were promised if they worked hard in the tobacco industry. Many people who came from England were indentured servants, promised food and sheltered during their seven years of work and a plot of 50 acres after their service. Each of these sections deals with a similar situation and issues: a return from exile which includes projects of restoration and reform. Today modern English translations of the Bible print the text of Ezra Nehemiah as two distinct books. By having Ezra and Nehemiah as separate books was not always the way in which these texts were written; they were traditionally combined into one book in the Hebrew and Greek Bibles. According to him, the bishops were neglecting their duties such as preaching, teaching, visitations, and confirmation. There was also a general decline in the moral behaviour of bishops. Bede mentions this in his letter when he writes that they are given to laughter, jokes, idle tales, feasting and drunkenness and other attractions of a loose way of life. Bishops would typically only preach if they received money for it, which led to a spiritual impoverishment for the laity. The laypeople lacked adequate instruction in the faith not only because of the waywardness of bishops but also because there were not enough priests to give a good example to the laity to imitate. Another abuse that Bede objects to is the unjust taxation of the lay faithful and any other forms of clerical avarice. Many remote farms, hamlets, and small villages were neglected by their bishop; they were still, however, expected to pay their ecclesial taxes. Bede also mentions that there simply are not enough dioceses in Northumbria, which would help to resolve the laity s lack of spiritual education.
