The Truth: The Reality of Alcohol s Effect on America
The term alcohol is such a casual term in America. Few people think twice about it. We Americans
think we know everything about it, but do we really? The truth is, alcohol is in fact a drug. It is not
one to take lightly either. Whenever an American sees a couple of guys drinking beers at a bar or a
couple in love having a glass of wine, those people are really just doing drugs and trying to get a high.
But few people see it like that; how it truthfully is. Alcohol has a lot of the same characteristics and
attributes as many illegal drugs that people consider so dire. Alcohol kills people, ruins relationships,

Because alcohol is legal and so pervasive, it plays a major role in the world of crime. According to a
recent article, Alcohol is a factor in 40 percent of all violent crimes today. According to the
Department of Justice, 37 percent of almost two million convicted offenders currently in jail, report
that they were drinking at the time of their arrest. (National Council on Alcoholism and Drug
Dependence) Sadly, alcohol is most frequently correlated with offenses of murder, rape, assault, and
child and spousal abuse. Aside from crime, alcohol takes a heavy toll on the American economy. It is
estimated that the cost of excessive alcohol consumption in the United States totaled about $223.5
billion in 2006 (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention). This equates to about $1.90 per drink;
meaning that for every drink bought, it is costing taxpayers about $1.90. Further research indicates
that in these $223.5 billion represent loss in workplace productivity, health care expenses, criminal
justice expenses, and motor vehicle crashes. It is now apparent that the effects of alcohol not only
impacts those who are directly affected by crime or physical complications by the drug, but it strikes
every single American in their bank

Examples Of Rogerian Argumentation
Rogerian is a style of argumentation that does not take an adversarial approach. This style of
argumentation moves away from a combative stance. The Rogerian argument consists of four parts:
the introduction, context, writer s position, and benefits to the opponent. In Is the College Use of
American Indian Mascots Racist, Jane Willy does a great job of not taking a particular side and
promoting ethical growth. Therefore, Willy effectively uses Rogerian argumentation to enhance his
argument. In Willy s introduction, he introduces the controversy of how there are differing views
regarding the mascot names of college teams. The author catches the audience s attention as he
provides a story of his experiences with a particular football team at ... Show more content on

This is supposed to show the opponent how they would benefit by agreeing with the writer s position.
Willy proposes that he thinks The voice of the Indians is the voice that should, finally, be listened to
(Willy, 2008, para. 6). This shows the opponent that if they adopt the writer s position, it would give
the Indians the right to determine if the names of the mascots are racist. Also, Willy finds common
ground between the opposing viewpoints and provides a compromise. He brings up the controversy
regarding the North Dakota Fighting Sioux. The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) is
considering taking this name away from them because of differences among the community. Will
proposes that If it can, and if the Sioux then agree to let the university use their image, the NCAA
ought to withdraw its objection (Willy, 2008, para. 7). Then, he states that if The university cannot
persuade the Sioux, well, the Fighting Sioux will just have to agree that they have lost this fight, come
to a compromise, and Take the name of the Hawks or the Eagles or of any other group that won t
object (Willy, 2008, para. 7). Willy provides a compromise for both sides that is

Analysis Of The Whore Essay
The Whore
I had shared my thoughts with a number of Christians, some of which were inclined to support Donald
Trump in the general election. Sometimes I got the question posed to me: Well, who do we vote for?
Obviously, people of all sorts Christian or not Republican or not were frustrated at the lack of options.
I understand. I was one of them. But for a Christian who has just been told that the candidate they re
planning on voting for is the Antichrist, this takes on a whole other dimension, not to mention
frustration. People were also concerned about Hillary, and rightly so. They were left with a choice of
Armageddon or slow rot. So much is at stake especially the Supreme Court. I myself was in sort of an
odd place. For me, the vote was cast already. I knew who was going to win. I d often tell people, If
you want to vote for Trump, vote for Trump. You ll be voting for the winner. The voting thing for me
wasn t much of an issue.
It s no big secret that the evangelical community played a role in Trump s success at the polls. He had
pretty decent support throughout his campaign; at least so it seemed. I want to address the chapter in
Revelation that describes the whore of Babylon specifically how it relates to the religious aspects of
this woman . There are two chapters designated to this subject: Revelation 17 and 18. Chapter 18
seems to focus more on some international commercial center. I ve suggested that this may be a rebuilt

The Nutritional Effects Of Energy Availability On...
The Nutritional effects of energy availability on metabolic rates and fecundity to diet in Artemia
Franciscana.
1. Introduction:
The Aquatic crustacean Artemia Franciscana is a significant organism for models in scientific studies
on ecology and phycology and has increasingly been exploited for use in aquaculture as a commercial
resource (Irwin, S., Wall, V. Davenport, J. 2007). Artemia Franciscana commonly referred to as brine
shrimp are widely distributed in inland salt water bodied niches of lakes and estuarine areas around
the world where their main nutritional sources are obtained (Irwin, S., Wall, V. Davenport, J. 2007). In
these ecological niches they experience large fluctuations in their physicochemical environments,
predominantly temperature, nutrition, salinity and oxygen tension (Irwin, S., Wall, V. Davenport, J.
2007). Artemia Franciscana is considered a phagotrophic filter feeder (Evjemo, J.O. Olsen, Y. 1999)
which uses its larval antennae to start ingesting food (Evjemo, J.O. Olsen, Y. 1999). The optimal
temperature for growth in Artemia Franciscana ranges between 25 and 30oC (Evjemo, J.O. Olsen, Y.
1999). Among these various factors affecting aquatic species, the level of nutrition quality is
paramount to metabolic rates and fecundity. Every animal has different nutritional targets that are
needed for optimal performance function (McGrill, 2010). Nutrition quality is broken into two main
components of energy content, micro and macro nutrients

large muscle truck. Taking a deep breath, he just shook his head carefully. Performing a self check on

Incident Between The City Of Auburn, County Of King,...
This incident occurred in the City of Auburn, County of King, Washington;
On 10 21 2016 at about 1000 hrs I was in the south parking lot of Isaac Evans
Park at 30700 Green River RD SE, when I noticed an older silver Honda sedan,
WA/BBJ3053, reversed in to a parking shall. At the time, the vehicle had two people sitting in it, a
female in the passenger seat and a male in the driver seat. The vehicle was not running at the time. I
know from several previous contacts at the park that stolen vehicles are often dropped off in the
parking lot as it is away from any busy roads and out of sight from any buildings. At the time the
vehicle was the only one in the area.
I drove over and parked my fully marked patrol vehicle next to the Honda and walked over to the
driver s side of the vehicle. As I walked over the male started to exit the vehicle.
I walked over to the male and asked him what he was doing in the area and if he was willing to
provide his name. The male quickly stated that he had a DOC felony warrant for his arrest. I placed
the male in handcuffs, per my training, and advised him of his Miranda Rights. The male stated that he
did not have ID on him, but provided his name as Garrett Brown. I checked Brown, via radio, through
WACIC/NCIC/DOL and dispatch confirmed that he had a DOC Escape Community
Custody warrant for his arrest, #2714104794. Additionally, dispatch advised that he had an DV no
contact order and a female, Devin Bushaw, was the protected person. I

Antarctica has this mythic weight. It resides in the collective unconscious of so many people, and it
makes this huge impact, just like outer space. It s like going to the moon. ( John Krakauer) The
antarctic is home to lots of different animals. Some of these are Adelie, Gentoo and Emperor
penguins. Other animals are Elephant and leopard seals as well as Snow petrel, polar skuas and
albatrosses. Penguins are often the favorite.
Penguins are very interesting creatures because there is a variety of different features that distinguish
them from one another. The emperor penguin is approximately 3.8 feet and weigh in at 66 pounds,
with a total population of 238,000. The adelie penguins height is 27.5 inches and it weighs 11 pounds,

are about 1000 pairs. Their name petrel means little peter. They eat krill, squid, molluscs and carrion.
The next bird is the polar skua. There 4 pounds with a 4 feet wing span. They are large and heavily
built, but look like baby seagulls. Some interesting facts are that their is several thousand pairs. They
live about 11 years old. Their nickname is raptor of the south. They live near the adelie penguins, but
they eat their eggs and chicks, Also they eat fish, squid, carrion and krill. The final bird is the
albatross. Their weight is 18 pounds with a wingspan of 11 feet. Their body is mainly white. Some
interesting facts are that some of them have the same lifespan that humans do. There are 21,000 pairs,
and they are supreme gliders. They eat fish and squid. Often follow visiting ships. They are considered
the most majestic of all antarctic birds.
As you can see there are many different types of animals in the antarctic. The animals discussed are
some of the more popular ones. Most people that can t travel to the antarctic can still see penguins at

Essay about Revolutionized Relationship
One of the major problems associated with a bilingual country, inevitably, is national unity. In Canada,
national unity usually refers to the relations between both the French and English Canadians. English
French relations have always been unstable, ever since the English conquest on the French in the late
1800s. In the twentieth century, this link was further depreciated primarily because of conscriptions
during the First and Second World War along with the Quiet Revolution and the October Crisis.
Conscription during the First and Second World War was one of the initial major causes that began the
deterioration of French English relations largely because the French had no desire to go to war. The
Quiet Revolution was an effort to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The recruiting effort in Quebec had failed horribly, so Canada resulted in conscription, which was
their only unused option that promised more success in recruiting French English volunteers. French
Canadians felt that they had no particular loyalty to either Britain or France, and because of this,
almost all of them apposed conscription. In 1917 a crisis arose know as the Conscription Crisis. It
triggered a substantial gap along ethnic lines among Francophones and Anglophones. After the
English Canadians visited Britain in May for a meeting of First Ministers in 1917, it was announced
by Borden that a Military Service Act was going to be introduced. The Act was passed on August
29th, 1917, allowing Borden to conscript men at his on will if he felt that it necessary. The act was
enforced in 1918 on the 1st of January. Because of this, 404,385 men liable for military served,
385,510 of which sought exemption. Anti war French Canadians set off a violent riot in 1918 from
March 28th to April 1st. Around fifteen thousand rioters ransacked the conscription registration, and
even two newspapers that were pro conscription in Quebec City. The violence continued on Easter
Monday; it was the one of the bloodiest conflicts. Rioters were armed and began to fire at troops from
hidden positions, and as a result, the soldiers fired back to defend themselves after they were ordered

Kaloona s Perfect Plan to Save her Planet
A darkness. An absolute darkness accompanied with deathly silence. Just somewhere from a distance
is heard a baby crying. Kaloona immediately knew, why the darkness clouded her planet. She went in
tears to the balcony, looked up to the sky and quietly cried: I failed. I could not protect Balathron the
light of life. Now our planet will die and all people with it. Mummy, please forgive me. Kaloona felt
hopelessly, but she knew, she must do something very quickly to save her planet and her nation.
Suddenly was born a perfect plan in her mind. General Tarkhan, can you come to my room, please?
she said with determination in her voice into the communication device. In a few minutes General
knocked on her door. Yes, her Majesty. I and all my soldiers are ready and waiting for your permission
to find and eliminate enemies who stole Balathron and bring it back to Sorascant. Kaloona looked at
him and said: No, General, it is my mission to protect people of Sorascant and not to send them to
certain death. I will not allow women lost their husbands and children their fathers. I will go and find
them. Do not try to stop me, I have already decided. As Guardian of Balathron is my duty to protect

Eating Animals, by Jonathan Safran Foer Essay
In the book Eating Animals by Jonathan Safran Foer, the author talks about, not only vegetarianism,
but reveals to us what actually occurs in the factory farming system. The issue circulating in this book
is whether to eat meat or not to eat meat. Foer, however, never tries to convert his reader to become
vegetarians but rather to inform them with information so they can respond with better judgment.
Eating meat has been a thing that majority of us engage in without question. Which is why among
other reasons Foer feels compelled to share his findings about where our meat come from. Throughout
the book, he gives vivid accounts of the dreadful conditions factory farmed animals endure on a daily
basis. For this reason Foer urges us to take a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Factory farms having locked doors only reinforces what some of us already suspect. That they are
engaging in activities appalling to the public. Their secrecy is seemingly sustaining their business.
Consumers ignorance of the meat production business only encourages inhumane animal husbandry.
Foer says, the power brokers of factory farming know that their business model depends on consumers
not being able to see (or hear about) what they do. (pg. 87) This is why we need to educate ourselves
on this matter extensively and start actively demanding where our meat is coming from. Advocating
for animal welfare is one way we can begin the process of changing or ultimately ending factory
farming.
It s problematic that we don t question the food we eat whether it be from McDonalds or a fancy
upscale restaurant. We need to be more aware of what is going on around us especially when the food
we eat is causing an array of health issues for us. The unsanitary conditions found within the factory
farm industry contributes to the pathogens found in the meat we eat. As the saying goes you get what
you pay for. Factory farming is based upon producing large quantities of meat at a very low cost. This
driving force behind the system is not worth getting food poising or something detrimental. In the

Analysis Of The Laughing Heart, AndThe Journey
Mental health is a struggle for many, many people. The constant battle with oneself wears a person
down until they end up as a mere shell of the person they once were. But this doesn t have to be the
end. One can make the decision to heal themselves, to pull themselves out of the seemingly endless pit
of self destruction. The poems The Laughing Heart by Charles Bukowski and The Journey by Mary
Oliver both use figurative language and tone to develop themes about making the decision to reclaim a
healthy state of mind.
Both poems use vivid metaphors to convey the peace and positivity that comes with overcoming self
destructive thoughts. Charles Bukowski uses light to represent hope and darkness to represent despair
in The Laughing Heart. He tells the reader that there is a light somewhere / it may not be much light
but / it beats the darkness (Bukowski 5 7). These lines are gentle, softly urging the reader not to give
up on themselves. This idea is also expressed by Mary Oliver in The Journey. Oliver describes the
moment when positive thoughts triumph over negative ones as when the stars began to burn / through
the sheets of clouds (Oliver 25 26). The stars in this metaphor are the good, healthy thoughts that are
finally gaining prevalence over the weighty, unhealthy ones, the clouds. Through the use of powerful
metaphors, The Laughing Heart and The Journey tell the reader that good things can happen if one
commits to making themselves better. The tone in

Proprietary Technologies Vs. Infrastructural Technology
Proprietary technologies vs. Infrastructural technology
Proprietary technologies can be owned, actively and effectively, at times by a single company. For
instance, a pharmaceutical holding a patent on a particular compound that is the basis for a drug is an
example of proprietary technologies. Infrastructural technology on the other hand provides more value
when shared rather than used by a single organization. A company having all the rights to building
railroads is an example of Infrastructural technology. This company can operate efficiently, but the
effect to the economy is greater if the technology is shared and companies build railroads that can
connect more buyers and sellers. Holding proprietary technologies, according to ... Show more content

In fact, IT is nothing like transport or electricity, and according to Ben Bernanke, we are in the early
days of the IT revolution as computing speed and memory continue to increase we ve only scratch the
surface3.
Carr s reasons why IT is a Commodity
IT, according to Carr, has become affordable to all and therefore, it has been a commodity. He further
argues that the use commodities do not lead to a completive advantage, and believes that IT has
become commoditized for the following reasons:
IT is highly replicable
The arrival of the internet has accelerated the its commoditization
IT is subject to rapid price deflation
I agree with Carr s assessment on the commoditization of IT to some degree. For instance, it makes no
sense for an organization to spend money in customizing a product when a similar product can be
bought at a relatively good price. Organizations no longer write their application, they simple buy one
that is available in the market (e,g. Microsoft Office).
I do not agree with Carr when he states that organizations such as IBM and Microsoft recognize this
trend and have position themselves as IT utilities companies as more companies replace customized
application with generic ones. That the internet has increased the commoditization of IT by providing
a perfect delivery channel for generic applications and more and more organization will obtain their IT
requirement by purchasing fee based web services

Climate Change And Climate Change
Our world is in constant demand for more food production and space because of exponential
population growth. Factors like, globalization and urbanization can be contributed to such changes.
However, climate change is one of the unpleasant surprise that can be credited to the degraded acts
towards the environment due to deforestation, burning of fossils and fuels, industrialization and many
more. Vector borne diseases, are one of the most known diseases that can be credited to climate
change.
Change in the environmental patterns introduce human diseases that could have not been a problem
before. For example, malaria is one of the vector borne disease which is sensitive to long term climate
change. The studies have also found that Malaria migrates towards higher altitude when there is a rise
in the temperature. The study, published in the journal Science, studied malaria cases in the region of
western Colombia from 1990 to 2005 and central Ethiopia from 1993 to 2005. The researchers were
able to match the several malaria outbreaks that occurred in high altitudes with the temperature
records of these regions to show the rise and fall pattern of the disease with warmer or cooler years.
This is very threatening because now, millions of people who live in historically malaria free regions
of the high altitude tropics are at risk. If we look at the study between climate change and malaria, the
link between malaria and climatic events has long been studied in India, for example,

Media Bias In Society
Media bias can be seen today on every type of media coverage that exists. Media bias is how the
person reporting the information perceives it, whether through their language when they speak about
the subject or their choice of words used in the article they wrote. A trending and important topic,
subject to such media bias is genetically modified organisms. These GMOs have modified DNA
which leads to better traits. For example, some modifications are to be able to withstand lower or
higher temperatures to growing bigger and at a faster rate. The perception of GMOs in society is
heavily split into two factions. One side is supporters of GMOs as they see it as a necessity in today s
society of billions of people. The other side is the people against GMOs who believe GMOs are not
actually beneficial to the society and may cause negative effects in overall human health. GMOs is
profoundly shown biasedly through people in all types of media coverage, like magazines,
newspapers, radio segments, the internet, or televised news segments since the people reporting use
multiple fallacies.
Media bias pertaining to GMOs can be seen in magazine articles. An article by Time magazine called
FOOD: GMOs Are Our Destiny is biased towards GMOs (Jahren, 2016). The article uses the appeal to
emotion, the attempt of persuasion through the use of emotion and feelings. For example, the author

Secret Window For Mise En Scene Analysis
Analysing a five minute clip of Secret Window for Mise en Scene and Performance
The first thirty seconds of this clip are of the main character, Mort Rainey in his car. The first thing we
see is the book in his hands, the depth of focus changes as he runs his finger across the stubs of pages.
The focus changes as the character makes a discovery, this could be to emphasise to the audience how
important this discovery might come to be. Then we are shown the character himself, the only thing
slightly obscuring our view of him is the steering wheel, this adds to the creation of the setting. The
symbolic idea behind having the character in his car at this particular moment, could be to show that
he is still discovering things, he hasn t got all of the answers yet, but he s well on his way.

that his face is obscured is significant, because the character is in the middles of doubting his own
identity.
As Mort Rainey steps towards the mirror, the camera zooms in and shows his face in much more
clarity, this may be an indication of the character s own clarity as to who he is, although it is more
likely, since we are only seeing his reflection, that it is symbolic of the character seeing himself more
clearly, not total clarity. Again, we hear the character talking to his own thoughts, this along with the
way he s playing with the rim of the hat and the way his face seems to indicate he feels comfortable in

Tuck Everlasting Motifs
Tuck Everlasting The book Tuck Everlasting is a good book. Throughout the book, three continuous
motifs that I found are: the wheel, fence, and fantasy. I chose fantasy as the motif because of the
several reasons that I have listed in this essay. Natalie Babbitt uses motif and analogy in the
development of theme in Tuck Everlasting by using the motif: fantasy and several different analogies.
First off, the concept fantasy is the best concept to use because of the following reasons included in
Tuck Everlasting: the wood had a pass me by look, the road knows where to go, and the Tucks look
the same for over 87 years. These are just a few of several reasons to support that fantasy is the best
motif used in the book.
Next, I think the theme in Tuck Everlasting is: time and death. I think that the theme is time and death
because: the Tucks are immortal. They will live forever. A quote that helps support the theme of time

Making A Criteria For Accepting Books
in charge to develop a criteria for accepting books. Once this committee evaluates which books could
be a good option to be used, the committee sends a list of the books that the teachers might use. Then
it becomes of matter of each teacher s preference; however, Mrs. Espinoza addressed that changes
have been made since the implementation of the Common Core Standards. What is occurring
nowadays, she said, each teacher take the Common Core and apply it to current lesson plans using the
Basal or whatever they use, and for a whole year, just to see, what they are already doing and how it
falls under the Common Core . Mrs. Valencia pointed that material selection is very different in the
5th and 6th grades. She explained that since it is novel based program, these grades do not follow any
basal reader or reading series type of textbooks. The students are the ones who select the books they
plan to read during the school year. To select these book, the students complete an interest inventory at
the beginning of the school year; then, Mrs. Valencia and the Literature teacher, Mrs. Jacob plan
together the activities that they will deliver; however, the students are guided through the process of
their book selection and they complete this inventory with the teacher guidance; the materials are
based on 5th and 6th grades reading skill levels, the possibility of using their content in the Language
Arts classroom, and if they are a good example of the genre that the material pertain

African American Shortcomings In America
Of course, those Korean immigrants were only fighting for their own economic survival in America,
too. Yet the assertion was understandable: during the 1970s and 1980s, deindustrialization, which
brought unemployment to the middle class, would only exacerbate the conditions of Los Angeles most
impoverished. The few remaining jobs it left to the slums had been seized and hoarded by Korean
immigrants. In the reality of the situation, however, African Americans, despite their efforts and an
ongoing movement for civil rights, were simply incapable of achieving the same level of
entrepreneurial success of Korean Americans during this time period. The reasons for their
shortcomings in Koreatown, in addition to lacking higher education and professional job experience
many Korean immigrants had at their disposal, were primarily due to the deeply ingrained institution
of prejudice against African Americans. African Americans were helplessly vulnerable to racism
regardless of how hard they worked, they would struggle to compete with other minority groups.
Nevertheless, African Americans continued to criticize Korean Americans as they accumulated the
capital and social mobility necessary to move out of Koreatown. The neighborhood had proved itself a
valuable tool for Korean entrepreneurial ventures, but it still remained a poor urban slum. Besides
thriving Korean businesses, historians Nancy Abelmann and John Lie discovered that Koreatown was
home to the highest crime rate in all of Los Angeles, and a median household income which was half
the California state average and even lower than that of South Central Los Angeles. Other than to keep
families perpetually wary, the district s poor and dangerous conditions served to question Korean
businesses for their seemingly nonexistent contributions on the surrounding community. While Korean
merchants certainly could have helped raise Koreatown out of poverty, they instead escaped with their
families to wealthy suburbs as soon as they had acquired enough capital. These suburban homes might
have marked the first milestones for Korean immigrant families, but more importantly, they justified
African American claims of stolen economic opportunity and further developed

Apple Inc. Essay
Apple Inc.
I am going to start off by going into a little bit of history about apple and how it has grown over the
past 10 years or so, I am also going to talk about some new products from Apple such as Apple TV
and the iphone, as well as the name change, and the new direction they have chosen to take with their
marketing and what it has helped them accomplish over the past couple of years.
Apple Inc. has come a long way from what it used to be. The computer market has always been a PC

struggling to make it in the computer market for a long time, going up against their competitor
Microsoft who had a monopoly on the market. Microsoft had such ... Show more content on

This was just the start for Apple s new ideas and goals to penetrate the consumer market.
All throughout the early 21st century the iPod has been the sought after mp3 product. Everybody had
to have one, and if you did, you were pretty cool. In 2004 Apple joined up with U2 to help promote
their new 20 gig ipod release. This was a great example of apple s new marketing plan, going for the
entertainment and media side of the market.
Another side of Apple that really made the music industry happy was then they started to sell songs on
itunes for $1 a song. Music Pirating was a huge issue throughout the early 21st century and Apple was
on the for front of helping fix that. In 2007 Apple introduced the iPhone and Apple TV, two
revolutionary products that is changing Television as well as the cell phone market as we know it.
Apple TV is setting a new standard for the viewing of media, it gives the consumer the capability to
wirelessly connect their computer to their television to stream virtually any video, song or website on
the internet through their TV. This is the new are of wave of media technology allowing people to
watch whatever they want whenever they want without any regular scheduled programming. This is
also a major bonus for television marketers since they are able to tell exactly how many views each
show or video is being watched.
Onto the iPhone. When the iphone hit the market it was a must have item. Everybody wanted one!

Dracula In Bram Stoker s Dracula
Throughout Dracula, it is clear that the vampire is a force to be reckoned with, worthy of the fear
accompanying its label. It is also apparent that the Count is a supernatural creature. The townspeople
strongly advise Renfield against travelling at night and become aghast when they realize that he
intends to travel to Castle Dracula. Despite their warnings, Renfield believes that all of their concern
simply stems from superstition. Later in the movie, Dracula himself subtly confirms that he is a
member of the undead in a conversation with Lucy and Mina at the theatre. There, he seems to long
death by bringing to Lucy s attention that he considers dying a glorious thing. He elaborates on this
concept even further by mentioning to Mina that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Count Dracula s powers are put on display throughout the entirety of the movie, showing the wide
variety of attributes the vampire possesses. Among the most potent powers the Count has in his
arsenal are the ability to shapeshift into wolf and bat form, a command over nature and the animals
that populate it, the power to communicate telepathically and to hypnotize, his unparalleled strength,
and his inability to age. Dracula s shapeshifting abilities are on display in many scenes of the movie.
They are first presented during Renfield s carriage ride to the castle. Dracula starts out in human form
as the driver, but much to his passenger s surprise, takes the form of a bat midway through the ride.
Likewise, Dracula morphs into a wolf when he flees the Dr. Seward s home after Van Helsing exposes
him. Dracula s command over nature and animals is not as obvious as some of his other traits, but is
still worth noting. The viewer can infer that the Count had a role in conjuring up the storm that
eventually caused the vessel he and Renfield were traveling to England on to wreck. In another part of
the film, Dracula parts a lawn outside of the Dr. Seward s Sanatorium and commands all of the rats
within it to stop so that Renfield can see the immense rewards he will reap if he continues to obey the

Benefits Of A Fatigue Management Program Essay
Our company has operated as the leader in our industry for a long time. We have since fallen behind in
regards to our competitors in that, we have not implemented a fatigue management program. The
proposed program will operate at a significant loss ($1.5 million in the first year) with an annual drop
in cost of 10 12%. The cost of the program past year five will be $900,000. With that being said, the
possibility of lowering our liability in terms of potential incidents in the future significantly outweighs
the associated costs of our program. Overall, pilots and supervisors have a positive outlook on the
implementation of a fatigue management program. In addition to pilots not being fatigued while on
duty, when the research team spoke with our partner airlines, one of the airlines showed data that
demonstrated a 10 15% rise in productivity. Therefore, the following recommendations are presented
to the board:
1. Implement the fatigue management program as soon as possible. The potential gains and liability
decrease significantly outweigh the initial financial burden incurred by our airline.
2. Continue to communicate with our partner airlines, as they will provide essential information
pertaining to the implementation of the program.
3. Clear all proposed changes and introductions with the FAA, as they do have the final say in all
facets of operation regarding safety.

A resulting straight line through the graph of H(t) would suggest that an exponential distribution

Further, stepwise regression is also known to pick smaller models than
desired~footnote{http://www.biostat.jhsph.edu/~iruczins/teaching/jf/ch10.pdf}. The criteria used in
the step wise variable selection process for this study was the Akaike information criterion (AIC). AIC
estimates the quality of each model, relative to each of the other models by estimating the information
lost when a model is used to represent the data. In doing so, it deals with the trade off between the
goodness of fit of the model and the number of parameters used. When using the AIC criterion, the
model with the least is the preferred model. After using the AIC selection process, any insignificant
variables which were selected by step wise regression were manually removed from the model. There
was also a need to consider the practicality of the model. Some highly significant variables resulted in
coefficients that were very small for any practical use. For instance, if a variable resulted in a
coefficient of $0.04$ then this coefficient would be $0.04 times$ the baseline hazard. This would
consequently increase mortality by a factor of $e^{0.04}$ days; which is $~1.04 times$ baseline
number of days. The resulting increase is very insignificant and could be ignored.

Understanding Elephant Poaching
The Elephants
Did you know that that 35,000 elephants are dying each year? We are poaching them, usually for a
price. Poaching is different from hunting. Hunting is when you kill for sport, and it s completely legal.
You still need a permit. Poaching is when you kill an animal without a permit. Sadly, 30 elephants are
lost a day in Tanzania. Imagine if that was you and your herd was getting killed with no end in sight.
We need to take some responsibility, because I would want to be killed just because a poacher had a
permit. In order to understand elephant poaching you need to know why they re being poached, the
perspectives of the poachers, and the organisations, how they re becoming extinct, what we can do to

their local Fire station or water supply to get their own water in a tank. Just this past winter California

the constitution, which laid out how the president and vice president would be elected (Kimberling).
The only major change it went through was in the form of the 12th Amendment. It stated that the

Trust in the election process is key to democracy. Without this there is no peaceful transition of power,
which has been a keystone of the American political system (Wattenburg). One reason for this doubt is
the chance for faithless electors. Faithless electors is an elector who does not cast their vote for the
candidate that won their state ( Faithless Electors ). For example, if an elector voted for Trump when
their state s popular vote was won by Clinton. This means a person casts their vote for the winning
candidate, and the electors in their state do not have to listen to their vote. Another source of doubt
comes from the possibility of electing a minority president. The 2016 election showed the devastating
results of electing a minority president. When Trump won riots erupted across the nation. The biggest
ones being in the major cities of Portland, Oakland, and Los Angeles. In these cities the rioters

The English language is universal. It has very set rules, forms and functions. The Chicano language at

by non chicanos. By contrast, Richard Rodriquez, in his article entitled Aria , strongly believes in
surrendering to learning the proper English language, despite how strongly he feels his native tongue

Margarine is mostly made of water and fat. There are two different types of fat, saturated and

effect of decreasing the chance of heart disease. This experiment will indicate which type of margarine

he uses perception is a great deal of his art works. Albrecht Durer s artworks were very diverse and
vibrant, they also included modern ways of creativity and originality. Durer was a huge example of

  • 2. Alcohol In America Nick Martinez Mr. Likes Period 7 LA 9 November 2016 The Truth: The Reality of Alcohol s Effect on America The term alcohol is such a casual term in America. Few people think twice about it. We Americans think we know everything about it, but do we really? The truth is, alcohol is in fact a drug. It is not one to take lightly either. Whenever an American sees a couple of guys drinking beers at a bar or a couple in love having a glass of wine, those people are really just doing drugs and trying to get a high. But few people see it like that; how it truthfully is. Alcohol has a lot of the same characteristics and attributes as many illegal drugs that people consider so dire. Alcohol kills people, ruins relationships, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Because alcohol is legal and so pervasive, it plays a major role in the world of crime. According to a recent article, Alcohol is a factor in 40 percent of all violent crimes today. According to the Department of Justice, 37 percent of almost two million convicted offenders currently in jail, report that they were drinking at the time of their arrest. (National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence) Sadly, alcohol is most frequently correlated with offenses of murder, rape, assault, and child and spousal abuse. Aside from crime, alcohol takes a heavy toll on the American economy. It is estimated that the cost of excessive alcohol consumption in the United States totaled about $223.5 billion in 2006 (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention). This equates to about $1.90 per drink; meaning that for every drink bought, it is costing taxpayers about $1.90. Further research indicates that in these $223.5 billion represent loss in workplace productivity, health care expenses, criminal justice expenses, and motor vehicle crashes. It is now apparent that the effects of alcohol not only impacts those who are directly affected by crime or physical complications by the drug, but it strikes every single American in their bank ... • 3. Examples Of Rogerian Argumentation Rogerian is a style of argumentation that does not take an adversarial approach. This style of argumentation moves away from a combative stance. The Rogerian argument consists of four parts: the introduction, context, writer s position, and benefits to the opponent. In Is the College Use of American Indian Mascots Racist, Jane Willy does a great job of not taking a particular side and promoting ethical growth. Therefore, Willy effectively uses Rogerian argumentation to enhance his argument. In Willy s introduction, he introduces the controversy of how there are differing views regarding the mascot names of college teams. The author catches the audience s attention as he provides a story of his experiences with a particular football team at ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is supposed to show the opponent how they would benefit by agreeing with the writer s position. Willy proposes that he thinks The voice of the Indians is the voice that should, finally, be listened to (Willy, 2008, para. 6). This shows the opponent that if they adopt the writer s position, it would give the Indians the right to determine if the names of the mascots are racist. Also, Willy finds common ground between the opposing viewpoints and provides a compromise. He brings up the controversy regarding the North Dakota Fighting Sioux. The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) is considering taking this name away from them because of differences among the community. Will proposes that If it can, and if the Sioux then agree to let the university use their image, the NCAA ought to withdraw its objection (Willy, 2008, para. 7). Then, he states that if The university cannot persuade the Sioux, well, the Fighting Sioux will just have to agree that they have lost this fight, come to a compromise, and Take the name of the Hawks or the Eagles or of any other group that won t object (Willy, 2008, para. 7). • 5. Analysis Of The Whore Essay The Whore I had shared my thoughts with a number of Christians, some of which were inclined to support Donald Trump in the general election. Sometimes I got the question posed to me: Well, who do we vote for? Obviously, people of all sorts Christian or not Republican or not were frustrated at the lack of options. I understand. I was one of them. But for a Christian who has just been told that the candidate they re planning on voting for is the Antichrist, this takes on a whole other dimension, not to mention frustration. People were also concerned about Hillary, and rightly so. They were left with a choice of Armageddon or slow rot. So much is at stake especially the Supreme Court. I myself was in sort of an odd place. For me, the vote was cast already. I knew who was going to win. I d often tell people, If you want to vote for Trump, vote for Trump. You ll be voting for the winner. The voting thing for me wasn t much of an issue. It s no big secret that the evangelical community played a role in Trump s success at the polls. He had pretty decent support throughout his campaign; at least so it seemed. I want to address the chapter in Revelation that describes the whore of Babylon specifically how it relates to the religious aspects of this woman . There are two chapters designated to this subject: Revelation 17 and 18. Chapter 18 seems to focus more on some international commercial center. Introduction: The Aquatic crustacean Artemia Franciscana is a significant organism for models in scientific studies on ecology and phycology and has increasingly been exploited for use in aquaculture as a commercial resource (Irwin, S., Wall, V. Davenport, J. 2007). Artemia Franciscana commonly referred to as brine shrimp are widely distributed in inland salt water bodied niches of lakes and estuarine areas around the world where their main nutritional sources are obtained (Irwin, S., Wall, V. Davenport, J. 2007). In these ecological niches they experience large fluctuations in their physicochemical environments, predominantly temperature, nutrition, salinity and oxygen tension (Irwin, S., Wall, V. Davenport, J. 2007). Artemia Franciscana is considered a phagotrophic filter feeder (Evjemo, J.O. Olsen, Y. 1999) which uses its larval antennae to start ingesting food (Evjemo, J.O. Olsen, Y. 1999). The optimal temperature for growth in Artemia Franciscana ranges between 25 and 30oC (Evjemo, J.O. Olsen, Y. 1999). Among these various factors affecting aquatic species, the level of nutrition quality is paramount to metabolic rates and fecundity. Every animal has different nutritional targets that are needed for optimal performance function (McGrill, 2010). Nutrition quality is broken into two main components of energy content, micro and macro nutrients ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This incident occurred in the City of Auburn, County of King, Washington; On 10 21 2016 at about 1000 hrs I was in the south parking lot of Isaac Evans Park at 30700 Green River RD SE, when I noticed an older silver Honda sedan, WA/BBJ3053, reversed in to a parking shall. At the time, the vehicle had two people sitting in it, a female in the passenger seat and a male in the driver seat. The vehicle was not running at the time. I know from several previous contacts at the park that stolen vehicles are often dropped off in the parking lot as it is away from any busy roads and out of sight from any buildings. At the time the vehicle was the only one in the area. I drove over and parked my fully marked patrol vehicle next to the Honda and walked over to the driver s side of the vehicle. As I walked over the male started to exit the vehicle. I walked over to the male and asked him what he was doing in the area and if he was willing to provide his name. The male quickly stated that he had a DOC felony warrant for his arrest. I placed the male in handcuffs, per my training, and advised him of his Miranda Rights. The male stated that he did not have ID on him, but provided his name as Garrett Brown. I checked Brown, via radio, through WACIC/NCIC/DOL and dispatch confirmed that he had a DOC Escape Community Custody warrant for his arrest, #2714104794. In Canada, national unity usually refers to the relations between both the French and English Canadians. English French relations have always been unstable, ever since the English conquest on the French in the late 1800s. In the twentieth century, this link was further depreciated primarily because of conscriptions during the First and Second World War along with the Quiet Revolution and the October Crisis. The recruiting effort in Quebec had failed horribly, so Canada resulted in conscription, which was their only unused option that promised more success in recruiting French English volunteers. French Canadians felt that they had no particular loyalty to either Britain or France, and because of this, almost all of them apposed conscription. In 1917 a crisis arose know as the Conscription Crisis. It triggered a substantial gap along ethnic lines among Francophones and Anglophones. After the English Canadians visited Britain in May for a meeting of First Ministers in 1917, it was announced by Borden that a Military Service Act was going to be introduced. The Act was passed on August 29th, 1917, allowing Borden to conscript men at his on will if he felt that it necessary. The act was enforced in 1918 on the 1st of January. Eating meat has been a thing that majority of us engage in without question. Which is why among other reasons Foer feels compelled to share his findings about where our meat come from. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Factory farms having locked doors only reinforces what some of us already suspect. That they are engaging in activities appalling to the public. Their secrecy is seemingly sustaining their business. Consumers ignorance of the meat production business only encourages inhumane animal husbandry. Foer says, the power brokers of factory farming know that their business model depends on consumers not being able to see (or hear about) what they do. (pg. 87) This is why we need to educate ourselves on this matter extensively and start actively demanding where our meat is coming from. Advocating for animal welfare is one way we can begin the process of changing or ultimately ending factory farming. It s problematic that we don t question the food we eat whether it be from McDonalds or a fancy upscale restaurant. We need to be more aware of what is going on around us especially when the food we eat is causing an array of health issues for us. The constant battle with oneself wears a person down until they end up as a mere shell of the person they once were. But this doesn t have to be the end. One can make the decision to heal themselves, to pull themselves out of the seemingly endless pit of self destruction. The poems The Laughing Heart by Charles Bukowski and The Journey by Mary Oliver both use figurative language and tone to develop themes about making the decision to reclaim a healthy state of mind. Both poems use vivid metaphors to convey the peace and positivity that comes with overcoming self destructive thoughts. Charles Bukowski uses light to represent hope and darkness to represent despair in The Laughing Heart. He tells the reader that there is a light somewhere / it may not be much light but / it beats the darkness (Bukowski 5 7). These lines are gentle, softly urging the reader not to give up on themselves. This idea is also expressed by Mary Oliver in The Journey. Oliver describes the moment when positive thoughts triumph over negative ones as when the stars began to burn / through the sheets of clouds (Oliver 25 26). The stars in this metaphor are the good, healthy thoughts that are finally gaining prevalence over the weighty, unhealthy ones, the clouds. Through the use of powerful metaphors, The Laughing Heart and The Journey tell the reader that good things can happen if one commits to making themselves better. The tone in ... I chose fantasy as the motif because of the several reasons that I have listed in this essay. Natalie Babbitt uses motif and analogy in the development of theme in Tuck Everlasting by using the motif: fantasy and several different analogies. First off, the concept fantasy is the best concept to use because of the following reasons included in Tuck Everlasting: the wood had a pass me by look, the road knows where to go, and the Tucks look the same for over 87 years. These are just a few of several reasons to support that fantasy is the best motif used in the book. Next, I think the theme in Tuck Everlasting is: time and death. I think that the theme is time and death because: the Tucks are immortal. They will live forever. A quote that helps support the theme of time is: Everything s a wheel, turning and turning, never stopping. The frogs is part of it, and the bugs, and the fish, and the wood thrush, too. And people. Yet the assertion was understandable: during the 1970s and 1980s, deindustrialization, which brought unemployment to the middle class, would only exacerbate the conditions of Los Angeles most impoverished. The few remaining jobs it left to the slums had been seized and hoarded by Korean immigrants. In the reality of the situation, however, African Americans, despite their efforts and an ongoing movement for civil rights, were simply incapable of achieving the same level of entrepreneurial success of Korean Americans during this time period. The reasons for their shortcomings in Koreatown, in addition to lacking higher education and professional job experience many Korean immigrants had at their disposal, were primarily due to the deeply ingrained institution of prejudice against African Americans. African Americans were helplessly vulnerable to racism regardless of how hard they worked, they would struggle to compete with other minority groups. Nevertheless, African Americans continued to criticize Korean Americans as they accumulated the capital and social mobility necessary to move out of Koreatown. The neighborhood had proved itself a valuable tool for Korean entrepreneurial ventures, but it still remained a poor urban slum. Besides thriving Korean businesses, historians Nancy Abelmann and John Lie discovered that Koreatown was home to the highest crime rate in all of Los Angeles, and a median household income which was half the California state average and even lower than that of South Central Los Angeles. Other than to keep families perpetually wary, the district s poor and dangerous conditions served to question Korean businesses for their seemingly nonexistent contributions on the surrounding community. While Korean merchants certainly could have helped raise Koreatown out of poverty, they instead escaped with their families to wealthy suburbs as soon as they had acquired enough capital. These suburban homes might have marked the first milestones for Korean immigrant families, but more importantly, they justified African American claims of stolen economic opportunity and further developed ... Among the most potent powers the Count has in his arsenal are the ability to shapeshift into wolf and bat form, a command over nature and the animals that populate it, the power to communicate telepathically and to hypnotize, his unparalleled strength, and his inability to age. Dracula s shapeshifting abilities are on display in many scenes of the movie. They are first presented during Renfield s carriage ride to the castle. Dracula starts out in human form as the driver, but much to his passenger s surprise, takes the form of a bat midway through the ride. Likewise, Dracula morphs into a wolf when he flees the Dr. Seward s home after Van Helsing exposes him. Dracula s command over nature and animals is not as obvious as some of his other traits, but is still worth noting. The viewer can infer that the Count had a role in conjuring up the storm that eventually caused the vessel he and Renfield were traveling to England on to wreck. In another part of the film, Dracula parts a lawn outside of the Dr. Seward s Sanatorium and commands all of the rats within it to stop so that Renfield can see the immense rewards he will reap if he continues to obey the Count. • 26. Benefits Of A Fatigue Management Program Essay Our company has operated as the leader in our industry for a long time. We have since fallen behind in regards to our competitors in that, we have not implemented a fatigue management program. The proposed program will operate at a significant loss ($1.5 million in the first year) with an annual drop in cost of 10 12%. The cost of the program past year five will be $900,000. With that being said, the possibility of lowering our liability in terms of potential incidents in the future significantly outweighs the associated costs of our program. Overall, pilots and supervisors have a positive outlook on the implementation of a fatigue management program. In addition to pilots not being fatigued while on duty, when the research team spoke with our partner airlines, one of the airlines showed data that demonstrated a 10 15% rise in productivity. Therefore, the following recommendations are presented to the board: 1. Implement the fatigue management program as soon as possible. The potential gains and liability decrease significantly outweigh the initial financial burden incurred by our airline. 2. Continue to communicate with our partner airlines, as they will provide essential information pertaining to the implementation of the program. 3. Clear all proposed changes and introductions with the FAA, as they do have the final say in all facets of operation regarding safety. 4. Consult with supervisors around our domestic hubs to determine the best way to implement the program. The ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Definition Of Exponential Distributions A resulting straight line through the graph of H(t) would suggest that an exponential distribution would be the favoured choice for these data, while a straight line through the graph of log H(t)would suggest a weibull distribution for the data. Figure~ref{HazCumHaz}, for patients who filled in a Home Care or both a Home Care and a Contact Assessment, does not support either distributions. Part results for outputs from the exponential and weibull distributions for these data are shown in Appendix~ref{AppendixB}. Further, stepwise regression is also known to pick smaller models than desired~footnote{http://www.biostat.jhsph.edu/~iruczins/teaching/jf/ch10.pdf}. The criteria used in the step wise variable selection process for this study was the Akaike information criterion (AIC). AIC estimates the quality of each model, relative to each of the other models by estimating the information lost when a model is used to represent the data. In doing so, it deals with the trade off between the goodness of fit of the model and the number of parameters used. When using the AIC criterion, the model with the least is the preferred model. After using the AIC selection process, any insignificant variables which were selected by step wise regression were manually removed from the model. There was also a need to consider the practicality of the model. Some highly significant variables resulted in coefficients that were very small for any practical use. For instance, if a variable resulted in a coefficient of $0.04$ then this coefficient would be $0.04 times$ the baseline hazard. This would consequently increase mortality by a factor of $e^{0.04}$ days; which is $~1.04 times$ baseline number of days. The resulting increase is very insignificant and could be ignored.
