Brown v Board of Education Essay
On the seventeenth day in May 1954 a decision was made which changed things in the United States
dramatically. For millions of black Americans, news of the U.S. Supreme Court s landmark decision in
Brown v. Board of Education meant, at last, that they and their children no longer had to attend
separate schools. Brown v. Board of Education was a Supreme Court ruling that changed the life of
every American forever.
In Topeka, Kansas, a black third grader named Linda Brown had to walk one mile through a railroad
switchyard to get to her black elementary school, even though a white elementary school was only
seven blocks away. Linda s father, Oliver Brown, tried to enroll her in the white elementary school,
but the principal of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Brown and the NAACP appealed to the Supreme Court on October 1, 1951. Their case was combined
with other cases that challenged school segregation in South Carolina, Virginia, and Delaware. The
Supreme Court first heard the cases on December 9, 1952, but failed to reach a decision. The judges
had to decide whether or not the writers of the Fourteenth Amendment had desegregated schools in
mind. The court ruling eventually came to be unanimous. The Chief Justice of the Supreme Court
asked this question in the decision read on May 17, 1954: Does segregation of children in public
schools solely on the basis of race, even though the physical facilities and other tangible factors may
be equal, deprive children of the minority group of equal educational opportunities? (The National
Center for Public Research). They struck down the separate but equal doctrine of Plessy for public
education saying that it has no place , ruled in favor of the plaintiffs, and required the desegregation of
schools across America (The National Center For Public Research).
On that Monday in May, the high court s ruling that outlawed school segregation in the United States
generated urgent news flashes on the radio and frenzied black. One swift and unanimous decision by
the top judges in the land was going to end segregation in public schools. Southern politicians reacted
with such fury and fear that they immediately called the day Black Monday. South Carolina Gov.

The Fires Of Jubilee By Stephen B. Oates
The Fires of Jubilee by Stephen B. Oates
The Fires of Jubilee by Stephen B. Oates describes a sad and tragic story about a man named Nat
Turner who was born into slavery and his fight to be free. Ironically, his willingness to do anything,
even kill, to gain his freedom leads to his own demise. From the title of this book, The Fires of
Jubilee, ; a reader can truly grasp the concept that there is trouble, chaos, and mayhem brewing in the
month of August.
This story was not only riveting, but also one that kept me on my heels for almost the entire time that I
was reading it. Stephen B. Oates, a prize winning author of thirteen books and more then seventy
articles, is currently a professor of history at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. Some of his
best novels have been With Malice Toward None: The Life of Abraham Lincoln, ; Let the Trumpet
Sound: The Life of Martin Luther King. Jr., ; and Rip Ford s Texas. ; His writing is riveting as well as
courageous. His willingness to get to such length to capture the mind of the reader and hold them in
suspense has earned him several awards throughout his lustrous career. Some of the awards that Oates
has received are the Christopher Award and the Barondess/Lincoln Award of the New York Civil War
Round Table. His work has gained worldwide notoriety and is currently translated in four different
languages: French, German, Spanish, and Portuguese.

smart. She wants to go to medical school but she works at a family restaurant and her family doesn t

Police Brutality And The Police As An Institution, And...
The study of ethics in policing has expanded considerably over the past few years as cases of police
brutality and corruption have surfaced in the media and in the courtroom. Commentators agree that
three issues have shaped the role of ethics in policing: styles of policing, the police as an institution,
and police culture. Banks, C. (2013). Criminal justice ethics: Theory and practice. Thousand Oaks:
SAGE Publications. One of the few things that is really dividing the country is the attitude towards the
police due to the killings of African Americans in of some cases unarmed or cases that the suspects
could have been subdued in a non lethal way; by the police over the past years, there have been many
complaints from African American that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

according to the Department of Justice is especially important in light of the functions and duties of

liberty, and property, and as guardians of the interests of the public police must maintain high
standards of integrity. In addition, police have assumed the right to use intrusive, covert, and deceptive
methods of law enforcement has a crucial role in protecting minority groups. Lately, they have also
suffered a series of blows to their reputation for integrity through acts of corruption, incompetence,
and racism. All of these factors point to the centrality of fostering ethical standards in policing. Police

Daniel Gabriel Fahrenheit s Impacts on the World of...
Everything is measured, even the hottest and the coldest temperatures can be measured, and in that
case, the word fahrenheit comes into use. the book Word People by Nancy Sorel, defines fahrenheit as
pertaining to a temperature scale that registers the freezing point of water as 32 F and the boiling point
as 212 F under standard atmospheric pressure (Sorel 99). But the word fahrenheit, itself has its history
of its creation, and was named after a physicist engineer, named Daniel Gabriel Fahrenheit. Fahrenheit
would soon change the world of measuring.
Daniel Gabriel Fahrenheit was born on Danzig, Germany in 1869. He was one of Concordia and
Daniel Schumann Fahrenheit s five children. He was the oldest amongst his two brothers and three
sisters, whom all survived throughout their childhood. Fahrenheit s mother was the daughter of a well
known Danzig business family (Daniel Gabriel Fahrenheit Biography ) . His father was a wealthy
merchant, and therefore his family was a merchant family, they in several Hanseatic cities . According
to the book Word People by Nancy Sorel, at the age of fifteen, both of his parents suddenly died from
eating poisonous mushrooms on August 14, 1701 (Sorel 99). His guardian sent him to Amsterdam,
Netherlands to study business, where he spent most of his life.

Research Paper On Jim Jones
Jonestown Mass Murder Suicide
Prior to the 9/11 attack, the tragedy at Jonestown marked the single largest loss of U.S. civilian lives in
a non natural disaster (Jonestown Massacre 2). Jim Jones, a cult leader of the Peoples Temple, was
responsible for the loss of the 900+ people that died in Guyana on November 18, 1978. Before all of
this Jim Jones was a normal man living a life as a preacher who preached against racism. Throughout
his life he was very popular by currying favor with public officials and the media, donated money to
numerous charitable causes and delivered votes for various politicians at election times (History
Staff). Jim Jones was a cult leader that preached to 900+ people of the Peoples Temple, made
hundreds of people commit suicide, and made history of the biggest loss of U.S. civilians before 9/11.
HISTORICAL CONTEXT
Throughout Jim Jones childhood and adulthood Jim Jones was a very religious person which changed
his experience towards many things in his lifetime. Jim Jones was born on May 13, 1931 and
throughout his childhood he was a strong student, especially in public speaking, but he had few
friends. His overpowering zest turned off some, and he, in turn, disliked many typical teenage boy
activities such as sports, and objected what he believed to be sinful behavior, such as dancing and
drinking (Biography.com Editors). Ever since his childhood, his religious beliefs had taken over his
body and viewed many things against him throughout his

his people, and severely punishing those who could not pay. Perhaps one of the most notable examples
of his ruthlessness, was the murder of his own wife and sons whom he feared where plotting against

The Effects Of Drunk Driving On The Road Of Driving
Oluwaseyi Isola
Prof. Laura Baltuska
English 101 015
29 November, 2016
Under the Influence Is Under Arrest
What is one of the most evil and deadly acts? Drunk driving? Oh no! These two words together are
uncordial behaviors. The crime of driving a vehicle or operating a motorized machine while under the
influence of alcohol is totally against the law of the land, but some people still won t stop. Is there any
gain in drunk driving than loss of lives, loss of driving privileges, and property vehicles? One third of
traffic deaths involve alcohol impaired driving (MADD). Therefore, a behavior that involves a tiny
proportion of drivers is one of the key causes of death on the roads. This is an indication that retaining
the licenses of drivers involved in drunk driving is not enough to deter drunk driving because some
people in this category are still driving even though their licenses have been suspended or revoked.
For this reason, it is necessary to adopt more strict measures to deal with the problem. In particular,
drunk driving can be prevented through the use of ignition interlock systems and sobriety checkpoints
at an individual level while a school based instructional program can help to prevent the problem at a
community level.
To begin with, drunk driving is a serious menace to Americans on the road, as it contributes to a large
number of traffic deaths and injuries. In 2012, for instance, over 10,000 people lost their lives from
crashes attributed to drunk driving.

People Have On Kids Using Electronics
There are many different thoughts that people have on kids using electronics. People either don t mind
their kids using things like phones or tablets, but there is also a very large amount of people that
disagree and limit the use of electronics for their kids. There are many different reasons why people
feel the way they do. Both sides make very valid points to support their side, but I see nothing wrong
with kids using electronics in their lives. There are going to be many different times when kids are
going to need to use electronic devises in their life, so they should learn the different skills while they
are young.
There are many different views on this topic and one of the biggest reasons why parents don t want
their kids using electronics is because they want their kids to be playing and be active. Whether kids
are playing inside building forts or outside playing hide and go seek, parents want to see their kids
running around and having fun. They want to see their kids be creative and come up with different
things they can do to keep themselves occupied just like they did when they were kids! Children six to
eleven years old obesity rates in 1980 were seven percent and have risen to eighteen percent in 2012
(cdc.gov). That is a huge increase in obesity and the numbers are only getting bigger and bigger every
year. One way to help lower the obesity rate would be by making sure kids are doing activities that
involve physical activity. Kids should be playing outside

h3 Buck Knives 110 9210 Folding Hunter Lock Back Knife /h3
The Buck Knives Hunter folding knife is a very simple pocket knife for everyday use and outdoor
activities such as hunting. The single stainless steel blade measures out at 3 3/4 inches long, making it
fitting for fans of medium sized knives. The implementation of stainless steel allows the blade to last
for years with everyday wear and tear and even rough conditions outdoors. The blade for this
particular knife is a straight edge which is great for common uses such as self defense and everyday
cutting purposes.
The handle is made up of a combination of wood and brass to make for a sleek design and a
comfortable feeling while holding it.
For a point, we have the popular ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
All of the tools, barring the magnifying glass, and the general construction of the knife are made of
stainless steel to provide the user with durability and strength to deal with everyday and frequent
outdoor use.
While the entirety of the knife s construction is made from stainless steel, the outer shell comes in
either a thick plastic or wood. You can also select colors such as black, red and blue for the plastic
covers.
As for the knives themselves, they re fairly standard blades that come with most multi tool knives.
They re both drop point blades with straight edges, but the inclusion of two saws in the knife negate
the disadvantages of not having a serrated blade. The larger blade of the two is about three inches
long, but it s not particularly wide enough to do many big jobs.
The stainless steel construction also means that the knives will dull fairly easily, and this may occur
even more frequently if the knives tends to rub up against other tools while closing.
Opening the knives can also be difficult for people with short fingernails as the opening to grab the
knife isn t very large. There s also no lock to prevent the knives from accidentally closing, which
could present a safety hazard.

The Day Of Marine Life
NOTE: I KNOW IT S TOO LONG
I glanced up at the Moon, shining its radiant light on the blue, tiled, glossy deck of the cruise ship.
This was my first time on a cruise and I was going to enjoy it to its fullest. A light breeze stirs up
ripples on the peaceful water of the pool. The moon centers itself in the night sky. I forgot a towel and
it s freezing out of the water so I m currently trapped in the pool. Tomorrow would be the first day we
dock at some island(at least I think it s an island). There were many excursions to go on, but most
them were boring. They were all about observing dull colored shapes float around in a body of water
with weird blobs on the ground. Animal and plant ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Mom, why do we have to go to this place in the middle of nowhere? It would have been more fun just
wandering around the cruise! Why do we have to go? Can t I go somewhere else, anywhere but to the
ocean of boringness! I complained.
You ve never seen any sort of marine life before other than fish in a fish tank at a restaurant. You ll
never grow if you don t try anything new, lectured my mom. I don t want to go means I don t want to
go! Please, just let me stay on the cruise or let me go ride the ocean waves! Anything except this! I
begged! I clamp my hands together and got right up in her face, Please, please, please, I m begging
you! You will go and you will learn what marine life really is. Would those cats in the whatever series
show weakness like you are now at the prospect of trying something new that could benefit them and
won t cost them?
I groan and lean against a palm tree. I was trying to tell my mom about the how Firepaw rose all the
way from a kittypet to the leader of a clan! He was awesome and wasn t afraid to try anything new
even if it broke clan rules. She was using the books I read against me. I really liked his personality and
wanted to be like that too. I look up at the palm tree, at it s large leafs blocking the sunlight and
shading me. I look at it s unyielding trunk, holding itself up against storms of all

Telemachus In Odysseus
Eumaeus welcomed Odysseus into his home; the audience sees right away that Eumaeus respects
custom. Eumaeus misses Odysseus and explains that longing for him, him that wrings [his] heart
(14.167). He has remained very loyal to Odysseus, and has therefore grown to hate the suitors. From
what Eumaeus has explained, Penelope s loyalty is emphasized since she has ignored the ignorant
suitors. They are all waiting for him to come home which he now realizes since his absence is truly
affecting everyone in his life.

Book 15
29. INSIGHT
Right when Telemachus was about to head home, the gods sent a sign: an eagle swooped down from
the crags where it was born and bred... snatched that goose fattened up for the kill inside the house
(15.194 196). Helen interpreted the sign and explained that just so, after many trials and roving long
and hard, Odysseus will descend on his house and take revenge unless he s home already, sowing
seeds of ruin for that whole crowd of suitors (15.197 200) This made Telemachus hopeful but suggests
the fate of the suitors back in Ithaca, which has been suggested throughout the story. This gives
Telemachus some closure on his father s homecoming.
30. CHARACTERIZATION PLOT
As powerful and worthy as Odysseus is, he still needs Athena s help at almost every step during his
return to power. Athena must first go to Telemachus and tell him to press Menelaus, lord of the
warcry, to speed [him] home at once to get past the suitors ambush and

Descriptive Analysis Of The Rose Garden
The painting was a lie.
A bright, pretty lie, bursting with pale pink blooms and fat beams of sunshine.
I d begun it yesterday, an idle study of the rose garden lurking beyond the open windows of the studio.
Through the tangle of thorns and satiny leaves, the brighter green of the hills rolled away into the
distance.
Incessant, unrelenting spring.
If I d painted this glimpse into the court the way my gut had urged me, it would have been flesh
shredding thorns, flowers that choked off the sunlight for any plants smaller than them, and rolling
hills stained red.
But each brushstroke on the wide canvas was calculated; each dab and swirl of blending colors meant
to portray not just idyllic spring, but a sunny disposition as well. Not too ... Show more content on

When it was nothing but smoke and ash, I invited in a wind that swept them from my palms and out
the open windows.
For good measure, I summoned a breeze from the garden to snake through the room, wiping away any
lingering tendril of smoke, filling it with the musty, suffocating smell of roses.
Perhaps when my task here was done, I d burn this manor to the ground, too. Starting with those roses.
Two approaching presences tapped against the back of my mind, and I snatched up another brush,
dipping it in the closest swirl of paint, and lowered the invisible, dark snares I d erected around this
room to alert me of any visitors.
I was working on the way the sunlight illuminated the delicate veins in a rose petal, trying not to think
of how I d once seen it do the same to Illyrian wings, when the doors opened.
I made a good show of appearing lost in my work, hunching my shoulders a bit, angling my head. And
made an even better show of slowly looking over my shoulder, as if the struggle to part myself from
the painting was a true effort.
But the battle was the smile I forced to my mouth. To my eyes the real tell of a smile s genuine nature.
I d practiced in the mirror. Over and over.
So my eyes easily crinkled as I gave a subdued yet happy smile to Tamlin.
To Lucien.
Sorry to interrupt, Tamlin said, scanning my face for any sign of the shadows I remembered to
occasionally fall prey to, the ones I wielded to keep him at bay

To what extent can I determine my own destiny Essays
To what extent can I determine my own destiny? Discuss in the light of theories, ideas and research
encountered in the course.
Do I act as I do through choice or are my actions influenced by factors beyond our control? This
uncertainty has concerned psychologists for decades, consequently giving rise to the Autonomy versus
Determinism debate. By definition, autonomy is the belief that we are free to make decisions and thus
control all of our actions, however determinism contradicts this view by suggesting that all of our
actions are entirely determined by the external and internal forces operating on them. Nowadays It is
now commonly documented by most psychologists that it is a combination of both autonomy and
determinism that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(Stevens3 1996:169) The Langer and Rodin study (1976) (Lalljee 1996:121) based in an American
nursing home shows the difference between two groups of elderly residents, those that were given the
chance to be autonomous were found that being in control made a critical difference to their well
being and longevity. However the residents that believed their well being was reliant on the nursing
staff were found to be less happy and their mortality rate was higher. This highlights the fact that to
have a happy life no matter what age we need to be autonomous.
Those in favour of determinism believe that behaviour is the product of internal or external forces
over which we have no control. As a result, human behaviour is arranged and therefore determined.
This idea is similar to that of scientific methods e.g. experiments. In an experiment we have the ability
to manipulate the variables, according to determinism all behaviour is causal, by this we sense that the
determinist feels we have the opportunity of controlling all human behaviour.
Supporting the determinist view is the biological approach, according to biological social
psychologists our behaviour is solely determined by our biological systems, they argue that we are
genetically determined. Cox and Klinger 1988 (Toates 1996:55)

There are situations that impact your everyday life that s when we call the Firefighters . Their lifestyle

According the agency of the Department of Homeland Security states that motor vehicles crashes are

the community safe as possible, but we the people need to think twice before we do anything else

The Alabama State Of Alabama Essay
In 1817, Congress divided the Mississippi Territory into two parts. The eastern part was set up as the
Alabama Territory. President James Monroe appointed Dr. William Wyatt Bibb, of Georgia, Governor
of the Alabama Territory. The first Alabama territorial legislature met at St. Stephen s, located in
Washington County, Alabama. As it s first official act, a petition was sent to the National Congress
asking that the Federal Government give financial aid to internal improvements. The Alabama
Territory had a short life, for it was organized merely as a step towards statehood. On March 2, 1819,
Congress authorized the territorial legislature to make arrangements for a constitutional convention to
draw up a constitution for a proposed state of Alabama. By 1819, the population of the Alabama
country was almost 128,000. About one third of this number were slaves. The slaveholders were
located mostly in the valleys of the greater rivers, the Tennessee, Tombigbee, Alabama, Black Warrior,
Canada, Coosa and Tallapoosa. Among them were a number of planters who owned large plantations
and many slaves. As more settlers came into Alabama from Tennessee, South Carolina, and Georgia,
towns sprang up in north Alabama. Huntsville was the largest town in the Alabama territory and it
served as the temporary capital. During the summer of 1819, 44 elected representatives met in
Huntsville to write Alabama s constitution. The people of Alabama disagreed over where the capital of

Puritan Religious Values
French historian, Alexis de Tocqueville once said, methinks I see the destiny of America embodied in
the first Puritan who landed on those shores. In many ways this statement still remains true. The
Puritans came to the New World in the late 17th century with their unique religion that was founded to
reform the impure nature of the Church of England. Therefore, their culture was one of simplicity both
in their religion and in their lives. The Puritans were particularly God fearing because of their belief in
Predestination and due to this, in fear of leisure and idleness. The Puritans remained the dominant
cultural influence in the New World until the 19th century. Though the Puritan faith eventually died
out, the legacy of their theological ideals have lived on in the values that are quintessentially
associated with being American today. American culture has inherited from the Puritans a strong work
ethic, an appreciation for education, and a focus on the sins of others.
The Puritan belief in predestination provoked a perpetual search for outward signs of salvation. This
anxiety in turn inspired a strong work ethic that remains today as characteristically American. Doing
hard work and performing good deeds were signs that someone was one of the few elect, which
creates an internal, strong held correlation between success and salvation. In his sermon, A Model of
Christian Charity, John Winthrop notes that we are entered into covenant with Him for this work... and

To discuss whether CompuHelp and Office Supply formed an enforceable contract we have to go
through the essential elements of a valid contract.
Offer: Offer has a special meaning in contract law. An offer exists where one person indicates to
another a willingness to enter into a binding agreement on certain terms. (Sweeney, Reilly, Coleman,
2013). An offer is considered as a proposal from the offeror that contains some certain terms, which
can be accepted or rejected by the offeree. An offer must be escorted by an aim to be legally bound. In
the given case, an offer was emailed to John, the owner of Office Supply from CompyHelp s
salesperson Sophie. Offer is not a request for information. It was an offer not an invitation or an
advertisement (Partridge V Crittenden [1968] 1 WLR 1204).
Acceptance: The contract is said to be made once the offer has been accepted. An offer is accepted by
the offeree when the offeree accepts certain terms of the offeror. While accepting offer certain rules
are to be applied such as only the offeree can accept the

better questions. The example he gave a scenario that there was this big paper you had to do and you
only have 3 weeks, now the first thing you d think is This is too much. How I will never get this paper
done in time? A person who s able to condition their brain would be able to think Okay, I have 3
weeks I know it s a lot but what can I do each day so I can turn this paper in on time. He also said
once you start asking yourself better questions you get better results. It s the little things from
workshops that change the way you see and think about things, and that s what I m hoping I will be
able to get from attending all the workshops, because ever since I ve started trying to condition my

Circe and Calypso, while very tricky and sly, are still very strong feminine characters. Circe takes
Odysseus crew and turns them into swine; when Odysseus is able to resist her spell, due to the Moly
he had been given by Hermes, she is dismayed and takes him as her lover. She is mysterious and
seductive and is strong even up against Odysseus. Calypso is a sea nymph who keeps Odysseus
captive for nine years, hoping to make him her husband. She is a strong willed temptress whose sultry
ways are able to reel in even the most determined man.
Penelope and Helen are the real human women who can steal men s hearts with their own feminine
ways and they never let their man go. Helen stole the heart of Paris and later married Menelaus the

Hospital This assignment will be a good review of the following: Choose a company or an industry in
which you have worked or would like to work. It could be a hospital or a physician practice. Identify
all the important stakeholders for the entity. Determine the primary aims/objectives of each
stakeholder. Assess the power of each stakeholder to affect the company s strategic plans, and how it
may apply that power. Explain how the company might respond to the possible actions of each
stakeholder. Recommend tradeoffs that company managers could make to accommodate the
stakeholders in a way that optimizes the company s own performance. I have chosen St. Jude Children
s Research Hospital for this project because I have always thought that this hospital is the best
organization in the healthcare industry. I have visited the St. Jude Children s Research Hospital many
times in Lexington, Kentucky, close to where I live, and visited the children and gave them little gifts.
It truly breaks my heart to see the children suffering in the way that they do, but it feels my heart to
see them and play with them and see their little faces light up when they see the treats that I had
brought them. For many of these children and their families, they would not be able to get the
treatment needed if it weren t for St. Jude. They could simply not afford it and St. Jude has been

Intellectual Progress Of Mankind By Martin Luther King Jr.
Intellectual Progress of Mankind
Human progress is neither automatic nor inevitable...every step toward the goal of justice requires
sacrifice, suffering, and struggle; the tireless exertions and passionate concern of dedicated individuals
Martin Luther King, Jr. Intellectual progress of mankind is the progression towards discovering the
questions about curiosity on why something is what it is or what makes something work the way that
it does. The discovery of which we make on defining, proving, and supporting scientific and
theoretical issues is a reflection of how far we have come on particular issues of study. this can be
defined as changes that take place as a result of growth in the thinking of mankind resulting from one
s capability to think, experience, reasoning judgement and ability to conceptualize. This helps
humankind to progress in different aspects of life and make advancements on daily basis in relation to
his life. Three main subject leads toward Intellectual Progress of mankind, philosophies, ideologies,
and theories which this paper examines as related themes that often intersect in educational ideas
(Gutek, 2004). Philosophy falls somewhere between the arts and sciences. On the one hand, it offers
idiosyncratic worldviews that may be too disparate to compare. It is not surprising, then, that the
question Is philosophy progressive? is hardly ever raised. From one viewpoint, it offers quirky
perspectives that might be excessively unique, making

Improving Airport Security
How can airport security be more advance and safe around the world? Airport security attempts to
prevent any threats or potentially dangerous situations from arising or entering the country. If airport
security does succeed in this, then the chances of any dangerous situations, illegal items or threats
entering into aircraft, country or airport are greatly reduced. As such, airport security serves several
purposes: To protect the airport and country from any threatening events, to reassure the traveling
public that they are safe and to protect the country and their people. There are many ways to improve

airlines are still responsible for checking passenger information against government issued watch lists

The Effects Of Mediocrity On Work Performance
INTRODUCTION Health Net s Appeals and Grievances Department is currently experiencing the
effects of mediocrity on work performance. These effects can be due to any number of issues. What is
perceived as mediocrity by one person may be perceived as a result of stress by another, since
everyone perceives situations differently. This can be debilitating to employees and be costly to
employers. Managers need to identify those suffering from negative stress and implement
restructuring as a defense against mediocrity and stress. This may reduce the impact stress has on
employees work performance. STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM The purpose of this study was to
determine the negative effects of mediocrity, complacency and stress on employees and the methods
that Health Nets Appeals and Grievance (A G) Department can manage employees stress. Health Net
should be able to meet reporting guidelines for settling appeals and grievances. According to
California state regulations, we must notify members of our decision about their grievance and/or as
quickly as the case requires based on the member s health status, but no later than 30 calendar days

for the extension, or if we justify a need for additional information and the delay is in your best
interest. Unfortunately, at this time, our department is currently struggling to comply with case

History of the Modern Bathing Suit
Imagine this, you see a woman at the beach sporting a thick, black dress and a bonnet. It seems odd
initially; however it gets even odder when she walks into the water wearing it. Well, a little over one
hundred years ago this was the norm. If a woman were to wear a bikini, well, the consequence could
be her being arrested. Believe it or not, in 1919, a woman was arrested for wearing a bathing suit
beneath her clothes.
So, what is a bathing suit exactly? Well, a bathing suit is a garment that is worn during water activities
like swimming, diving, surfing, water polo, and water skiing. Bathing suits can also be worn for
activities such as sunbathing. Bathing suits come in a variety of styles for men and women. The most
popular worn by women are the bikini and one piece. Bathing suits are worn in not just America but
all over the world.
Now that you know exactly what a bathing suit is, let s get into the history. Women s bathing suit
fashion in the 1900 s was very conservative. The laws stated that bathing suits must be a certain length
and had to cover a lot of the body. If a woman were not to abide the laws, she could be arrested.
Bathing suits could not be more than six inches above a woman s knee. Women typically wore black
or navy, knee length puffed sleeve wool dresses trimmed with ribbon and adorned with bows. Long
black stockings, fancy caps and lace up bathing slippers were commonly worn with bathing suits.
Long bathing coats were often worn from the bathhouse up

Many have heard of terrorism in the Middle East, and all of the conflict that it has caused. There are

For the Israelites, it is to get groups like Hezbollah, which are perceived by them to be terrorists, to
make peace with them and to terminate any more acts of terrorism. However, Hezbollah believes in
something quite different. They believe that the state of Israel should be destroyed in the name of their
God, even calling themselves, the Party of God . While many in the Middle East, especially in Syria,
who the militarized Hezbollah is fighting alongside, and in Lebanon, where they are greatly supported
due to the fact that many Palestinian refugees reside there, even giving the party the ability to veto

by other Muslims, they are thought up to be a terrorist organization who are using the name of God to
commit these acts of terrorism.
With the acts of terrorism, conflicting views, and tremendous complexity in this whole ordeal, the
future is somewhat hazy, but not completely unpredictable. In the near future, there is a high
probability that Hezbollah will attack Israel, seeing how one of their commanders was recently
assassinated. The Israelites are also prone to not give up either. Even though they vouch for peace, it is
still likely that a conflict will occur between the two of them. It may be years, or even decades

The Influence Of Tattoos In The American Culture
Tattoos have become more prominent in recent years in American Culture, as well as all over the
world. Approximately one out of every five Americans have a tattoo. The American Heritage Science
Dictionary defines a tattoo as a permanent mark or design made on the skin by a process of pricking
and ingraining an indelible pigment . Many individuals choose to utilize their own bodies as an artistic
medium to create visible bodily expressions of their inner selves. For many years, humans have used
tattoos to adorn their bodies for multiple reasons personal independence, religious beliefs, in
remembrance of a loved one, showing allegiance to a country, or gaining involvement in a social
organization, club or gang. Historically, tattoos date back over thousands of years and were created to
beautify, shock, humiliate, or narrate. Tattoos can vary by design, employing words, images, or a
combination of both. There are thousands of fonts to choose from, varying from basic to highly ornate.
Pictorial tattoos are chosen by an individual to represent a personal event, relationship or connection.
Tattoos vary in size, shape, and color, and can be very influential and meaningful. Aspects of the tattoo

Imagine having little or no pigment in your eyes, skin, and hair. You re constantly putting on

people with Albinism have little or no pigment in their hair, eyes, and skin. With no pigment comes

responsible for absorbing ultraviolet rays so the skin isn t damaged. Thirdly, Albinism has many

Hamlet Tragedy And Insanity Essay
To be, or not to be? That is the question (Shakespeare 50).
The Tragedy of Hamlet, Prince of Denmark was written by William Shakespeare as it became one of
the most influential plays in world literature from the Seventeenth to the Twentieth First Century. In
all honesty, William Shakespeare, the Bard of Avon , was regarded as the greatest playwright in
English literature as his most famed plays include Romeo and Juliet and Macbeth. The prominent
trend in most of Shakespeare s writing is the use of tragedy as well as moral insanity, resulting in the
protagonist s demise. Shakespeare was successful in implementing elements of tragedy and insanity in
the phenomenal play, The Tragedy of Hamlet, as he captured the hearts of the Elizabethans as well as
our contemporary society.
Dr. James Cowles Prichard, a Bristol doctor in London, created a medical theory called the Theory of
Moral Insanity to describe individuals who display a series of irregular behavior.
There is a form of mental derangement in which the intellectual faculties [are uninjured], while the
disorder is manifested principally or alone in the state of feelings, temper, or habits... The moral...
principles of the mind... are depraved or perverted, the power of self government is lost or greatly
impaired, and the individual is... incapable... of conducting himself with decency... (Ozarin)

The nature of warfare is unfathomable to someone who hasn t experienced it. Yet, With The Old Breed

reader the idea of what war is like, the ability to picture it in their heads, and evoke some sort of
emotions from his experience when he was there. In order for Sledge to describe the nature of his
experience in the war, he needed to describe the essence of what it was truly like. I asked God Why,
why, why? I turned my face away and wished that I were imagining it all. I had tasted the bitterest

The psychological effects, the mentality of fighting and killing another human, and the sheer
decimation of human values is what makes war atrocious. War is not only fought on the battlefield
though. This book also describes the feelings of a soldier fighting his own demons that war has
brought on. The battle that the soldier has with himself, is almost if not more damaging than the
physical battle of war. He will never forget his experience with battle, no matter how hard he tries the
memories of artillery, blood, and death cannot be erased. I prayed like you to survive, but look at me
now. It is over for us who are dead, but you must struggle, and will carry the memories all your life.
People back home will wonder why you can t forget. (Sledge). This struggle still happens to soldiers
today. Sledge s words of the struggles still captures the effects of warfare that lingers today. The other
effects that war has on the men is the instability that surrounds them at every hour of the day. They are
either engaged in battle having bullets and artillery fired at them, or waiting for battle just so they can
be deposited back in the pressure cooker of survival. Lying in a foxhole sweating out an enemy

Causes Of Hepatitis C
Hepatitis C is a form of liver inflammation caused by the hepacivirus, a member of the Flaviviridae
family. It is a highly infectious blood born disease most commonly transmitted by shared needles
among drug users. According to the CDC it affects approximately 3.9 million Americans and
unfortunately 2.7 million of those individuals are chronically infected. Because the signs and
symptoms may not appear sometimes for up to 20 30 years, many people may die from the chronic
illness as the disease has a higher treatment response in the acute stages. Along with shared needles,
other routes of transmission include tattooing, body piercing, needle sticks in health care setting, and
parental infections during pregnancy and child birth. Uncommonly, transmission can occur through
intercourse with an infected person or sharing personal items, such as razors or toothbrushes, that may
have infected blood on them. There has been question whether breast milk can cause infection,
however, there is currently no evidence of this. Many people may not know they are infected since it
can take years for symptoms to appear and the majority of signs and symptoms typically are related to

  • 2. Brown v Board of Education Essay On the seventeenth day in May 1954 a decision was made which changed things in the United States dramatically. For millions of black Americans, news of the U.S. Supreme Court s landmark decision in Brown v. Board of Education meant, at last, that they and their children no longer had to attend separate schools. Brown v. Board of Education was a Supreme Court ruling that changed the life of every American forever. In Topeka, Kansas, a black third grader named Linda Brown had to walk one mile through a railroad switchyard to get to her black elementary school, even though a white elementary school was only seven blocks away. Linda s father, Oliver Brown, tried to enroll her in the white elementary school, but the principal of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Brown and the NAACP appealed to the Supreme Court on October 1, 1951. Their case was combined with other cases that challenged school segregation in South Carolina, Virginia, and Delaware. The Supreme Court first heard the cases on December 9, 1952, but failed to reach a decision. The judges had to decide whether or not the writers of the Fourteenth Amendment had desegregated schools in mind. The court ruling eventually came to be unanimous. The Chief Justice of the Supreme Court asked this question in the decision read on May 17, 1954: Does segregation of children in public schools solely on the basis of race, even though the physical facilities and other tangible factors may be equal, deprive children of the minority group of equal educational opportunities? (The National Center for Public Research). They struck down the separate but equal doctrine of Plessy for public education saying that it has no place , ruled in favor of the plaintiffs, and required the desegregation of schools across America (The National Center For Public Research). On that Monday in May, the high court s ruling that outlawed school segregation in the United States generated urgent news flashes on the radio and frenzied black. One swift and unanimous decision by the top judges in the land was going to end segregation in public schools. Southern politicians reacted with such fury and fear that they immediately called the day Black Monday. South Carolina Gov. James Byrnes, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Oates describes a sad and tragic story about a man named Nat Turner who was born into slavery and his fight to be free. Ironically, his willingness to do anything, even kill, to gain his freedom leads to his own demise. From the title of this book, The Fires of Jubilee, ; a reader can truly grasp the concept that there is trouble, chaos, and mayhem brewing in the month of August. This story was not only riveting, but also one that kept me on my heels for almost the entire time that I was reading it. Stephen B. Oates, a prize winning author of thirteen books and more then seventy articles, is currently a professor of history at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. Some of his best novels have been With Malice Toward None: The Life of Abraham Lincoln, ; Let the Trumpet Sound: The Life of Martin Luther King. • 5. Police Brutality And The Police As An Institution, And... The study of ethics in policing has expanded considerably over the past few years as cases of police brutality and corruption have surfaced in the media and in the courtroom. • 8. Research Paper On Jim Jones Jonestown Mass Murder Suicide Prior to the 9/11 attack, the tragedy at Jonestown marked the single largest loss of U.S. civilian lives in a non natural disaster (Jonestown Massacre 2). Jim Jones, a cult leader of the Peoples Temple, was responsible for the loss of the 900+ people that died in Guyana on November 18, 1978. Before all of this Jim Jones was a normal man living a life as a preacher who preached against racism. Throughout his life he was very popular by currying favor with public officials and the media, donated money to numerous charitable causes and delivered votes for various politicians at election times (History Staff). Jim Jones was a cult leader that preached to 900+ people of the Peoples Temple, made hundreds of people commit suicide, and made history of the biggest loss of U.S. civilians before 9/11. HISTORICAL CONTEXT Throughout Jim Jones childhood and adulthood Jim Jones was a very religious person which changed his experience towards many things in his lifetime. Jim Jones was born on May 13, 1931 and throughout his childhood he was a strong student, especially in public speaking, but he had few friends. His overpowering zest turned off some, and he, in turn, disliked many typical teenage boy activities such as sports, and objected what he believed to be sinful behavior, such as dancing and drinking (Biography.com Editors). • 10. The Effects Of Drunk Driving On The Road Of Driving Oluwaseyi Isola Prof. Laura Baltuska English 101 015 29 November, 2016 Under the Influence Is Under Arrest What is one of the most evil and deadly acts? Drunk driving? Oh no! These two words together are uncordial behaviors. The crime of driving a vehicle or operating a motorized machine while under the influence of alcohol is totally against the law of the land, but some people still won t stop. Is there any gain in drunk driving than loss of lives, loss of driving privileges, and property vehicles? One third of traffic deaths involve alcohol impaired driving (MADD). Therefore, a behavior that involves a tiny proportion of drivers is one of the key causes of death on the roads. This is an indication that retaining the licenses of drivers involved in drunk driving is not enough to deter drunk driving because some people in this category are still driving even though their licenses have been suspended or revoked. For this reason, it is necessary to adopt more strict measures to deal with the problem. In particular, drunk driving can be prevented through the use of ignition interlock systems and sobriety checkpoints at an individual level while a school based instructional program can help to prevent the problem at a community level. To begin with, drunk driving is a serious menace to Americans on the road, as it contributes to a large number of traffic deaths and injuries. In 2012, for instance, over 10,000 people lost their lives from crashes attributed to drunk driving. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

People either don t mind their kids using things like phones or tablets, but there is also a very large amount of people that disagree and limit the use of electronics for their kids. There are many different reasons why people feel the way they do. Both sides make very valid points to support their side, but I see nothing wrong with kids using electronics in their lives. There are going to be many different times when kids are going to need to use electronic devises in their life, so they should learn the different skills while they are young. There are many different views on this topic and one of the biggest reasons why parents don t want their kids using electronics is because they want their kids to be playing and be active. Whether kids are playing inside building forts or outside playing hide and go seek, parents want to see their kids running around and having fun. They want to see their kids be creative and come up with different things they can do to keep themselves occupied just like they did when they were kids! Children six to eleven years old obesity rates in 1980 were seven percent and have risen to eighteen percent in 2012 (cdc.gov). That is a huge increase in obesity and the numbers are only getting bigger and bigger every year. The implementation of stainless steel allows the blade to last for years with everyday wear and tear and even rough conditions outdoors. All of the tools, barring the magnifying glass, and the general construction of the knife are made of stainless steel to provide the user with durability and strength to deal with everyday and frequent outdoor use. While the entirety of the knife s construction is made from stainless steel, the outer shell comes in either a thick plastic or wood. You can also select colors such as black, red and blue for the plastic covers. As for the knives themselves, they re fairly standard blades that come with most multi tool knives. They re both drop point blades with straight edges, but the inclusion of two saws in the knife negate the disadvantages of not having a serrated blade. The larger blade of the two is about three inches long, but it s not particularly wide enough to do many big jobs. The stainless steel construction also means that the knives will dull fairly easily, and this may occur even more frequently if the knives tends to rub up against other tools while closing. Opening the knives can also be difficult for people with short fingernails as the opening to grab the knife isn t very large. There s also no lock to prevent the knives from accidentally closing, which could present a safety hazard. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Eumaeus misses Odysseus and explains that longing for him, him that wrings [his] heart (14.167). He has remained very loyal to Odysseus, and has therefore grown to hate the suitors. From what Eumaeus has explained, Penelope s loyalty is emphasized since she has ignored the ignorant suitors. They are all waiting for him to come home which he now realizes since his absence is truly affecting everyone in his life. 28. Book 15 29. INSIGHT Right when Telemachus was about to head home, the gods sent a sign: an eagle swooped down from the crags where it was born and bred... snatched that goose fattened up for the kill inside the house (15.194 196). Helen interpreted the sign and explained that just so, after many trials and roving long and hard, Odysseus will descend on his house and take revenge unless he s home already, sowing seeds of ruin for that whole crowd of suitors (15.197 200) This made Telemachus hopeful but suggests the fate of the suitors back in Ithaca, which has been suggested throughout the story. This gives Telemachus some closure on his father s homecoming. 30. I d begun it yesterday, an idle study of the rose garden lurking beyond the open windows of the studio. Through the tangle of thorns and satiny leaves, the brighter green of the hills rolled away into the distance. Incessant, unrelenting spring. If I d painted this glimpse into the court the way my gut had urged me, it would have been flesh shredding thorns, flowers that choked off the sunlight for any plants smaller than them, and rolling hills stained red. Perhaps when my task here was done, I d burn this manor to the ground, too. Starting with those roses. Two approaching presences tapped against the back of my mind, and I snatched up another brush, dipping it in the closest swirl of paint, and lowered the invisible, dark snares I d erected around this room to alert me of any visitors. I was working on the way the sunlight illuminated the delicate veins in a rose petal, trying not to think of how I d once seen it do the same to Illyrian wings, when the doors opened. I made a good show of appearing lost in my work, hunching my shoulders a bit, angling my head. • 16. To what extent can I determine my own destiny Essays To what extent can I determine my own destiny? Discuss in the light of theories, ideas and research encountered in the course. Do I act as I do through choice or are my actions influenced by factors beyond our control? This uncertainty has concerned psychologists for decades, consequently giving rise to the Autonomy versus Determinism debate. By definition, autonomy is the belief that we are free to make decisions and thus control all of our actions, however determinism contradicts this view by suggesting that all of our actions are entirely determined by the external and internal forces operating on them. Nowadays It is now commonly documented by most psychologists that it is a combination of both autonomy and determinism that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (Stevens3 1996:169) The Langer and Rodin study (1976) (Lalljee 1996:121) based in an American nursing home shows the difference between two groups of elderly residents, those that were given the chance to be autonomous were found that being in control made a critical difference to their well being and longevity. However the residents that believed their well being was reliant on the nursing staff were found to be less happy and their mortality rate was higher. This highlights the fact that to have a happy life no matter what age we need to be autonomous. Those in favour of determinism believe that behaviour is the product of internal or external forces over which we have no control. As a result, human behaviour is arranged and therefore determined. This idea is similar to that of scientific methods e.g. experiments. In an experiment we have the ability to manipulate the variables, according to determinism all behaviour is causal, by this we sense that the determinist feels we have the opportunity of controlling all human behaviour. Supporting the determinist view is the biological approach, according to biological social psychologists our behaviour is solely determined by our biological systems, they argue that we are genetically determined. As it s first official act, a petition was sent to the National Congress asking that the Federal Government give financial aid to internal improvements. The Alabama Territory had a short life, for it was organized merely as a step towards statehood. By 1819, the population of the Alabama country was almost 128,000. About one third of this number were slaves. The slaveholders were located mostly in the valleys of the greater rivers, the Tennessee, Tombigbee, Alabama, Black Warrior, Canada, Coosa and Tallapoosa. Among them were a number of planters who owned large plantations and many slaves. As more settlers came into Alabama from Tennessee, South Carolina, and Georgia, towns sprang up in north Alabama. • 19. Puritan Religious Values French historian, Alexis de Tocqueville once said, methinks I see the destiny of America embodied in the first Puritan who landed on those shores. In many ways this statement still remains true. The Puritans came to the New World in the late 17th century with their unique religion that was founded to reform the impure nature of the Church of England. Therefore, their culture was one of simplicity both in their religion and in their lives. The Puritans were particularly God fearing because of their belief in Predestination and due to this, in fear of leisure and idleness. The Puritans remained the dominant cultural influence in the New World until the 19th century. Though the Puritan faith eventually died out, the legacy of their theological ideals have lived on in the values that are quintessentially associated with being American today. American culture has inherited from the Puritans a strong work ethic, an appreciation for education, and a focus on the sins of others. The Puritan belief in predestination provoked a perpetual search for outward signs of salvation. This anxiety in turn inspired a strong work ethic that remains today as characteristically American. Doing hard work and performing good deeds were signs that someone was one of the few elect, which creates an internal, strong held correlation between success and salvation. In the case of CompuHelp and Office Supply: To discuss whether CompuHelp and Office Supply formed an enforceable contract we have to go through the essential elements of a valid contract. Offer: Offer has a special meaning in contract law. An offer exists where one person indicates to another a willingness to enter into a binding agreement on certain terms.
