Railway Labor Act Essay
Railway Labor Act and Impact on Modern Day Airlines For decades, the railroad industry was in a
period of great economic political, and industrial changes in the United States. The industrial boom
was taking its toll on the United States, and the widespread violent work stoppages were detrimental
to the railroad industry due to tensions escalating between unions and workers. President Calvin
Coolidge was strongly vocal about the issue and urged railroads and unions to recommend legislation
to improve relations and ultimately reduce the threat of any railroad shutdowns. As a response,
railroads and unions immediately drafted legislation, which in hopes would improve labor and union
relations. On May 20, 1029, President Coolidge signed and designated the new law as the Railway
Labor Act of 1926. Coined one of the most significant and longest lasting pieces of legislation, the
Railway Labor Act provides a mechanism through which labor disputes between railroads and
currently airlines, could be handled in a peaceful, non disruptive manner. The Railway Labor Act of
1926 is unique unlike other legislations because it ensures no interruption to commerce, provides an
unhindered right of employees to join a labor union, guarantees independence of an organization to
enact the RLA, assists in work rules and working conditions, and assists in a prompt and orderly
settlement of disputes. The Railway Labor Act is certainly different due to the relationship of labor
and management in the

Theme Of Class Struggle In A Tale Of Two Cities
A Tale of Two Cities is a novel by Dickens written in 1859. It is one of the most famous productions
of world literature. Dickens first purpose was to publish this work through a newspaper. In fact, he
ended up publishing his novel in his All the Year Round literary magazine for 31 weeks. The novel is
set place in London and Paris and is shaped around one of the most restless periods of history, the
French Revolution. Charles Dickens tries to show the insight of the French Revolution in which the
bourgeoisie and aristocrat class carried out a bloody strife on the lower classes. Dickens displays this
in a very realistic and frustrated fiction. The novel basically revolves around the lives of its characters
before and after French Revolution. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(Book 1, Chapter 7) This shows that no matter what the case is, if you are lower in class you lose.
Dickens portrayed class struggle as one of the main causes of the Revolution. If we compare the
pictures Dickens painted to the information in historical sources we will see that he is accurate. There
was political turmoil among the upper classes, huge population growth among the peasants, and
frustrated bourgeois class. (Revolution and Masters)
Dickens continues to illustrate corrupted power. Monseigneur s cruel philosophy illustrates the
mindset that has crept into the most privileged class and demonstrates how power can corrupt. The
contrast between his philosophy and his nephew s beliefs further underscores the suffering of the
masses. (Book 2, Chapter

Self-Acquaintance And John Winthrop s City Upon A Hill
For our second week of school, we learned about the different Puritan ideals and how they influenced
our society today. In this essay, I will discuss one of those many ideals and provide evidence to defend
that it is, indeed, a Puritanical ideal that can be found in many early colonial pieces of literature, such
as Self Acquaintance by William Cooper, Here followes some verses upon the burning of our house,
July 10th, 1666 by Anne Bradstreet, and John Winthrop s City Upon A Hill, 1630. Loyalty to God, or
faith, is a Puritan ideal.
Faith is a Puritan ideal as shown in many early colonial works. In Self Acquaintance by William
Cooper, the speaker begins to question his faith before stating, Oh, cleanse me in a Saviour s
blood,/Transform me by thy pow r,/And make me thy beloved abode,/And let me rove no more. As he
begins to wander from his faith, he cries out to God, his Saviour, to cleanse him from the sin of
doubting his faith. In Anne Bradstreet s Here followes some verses upon the burning of our house,

Research Paper On African Trypanosomiasis
African Trypanosomiasis
My disease is called the African Trypanosomiasis or sleeping sickness. The microbe of the disease is a
protozoa of the species Trypanasoma brucei. There are two types of the sleeping sickness that infects
humans; Trypanosoma brucei rhodesiense (T.b.r), and Trypanosoma brucei gambiense (T.b.g). Both
are mainly transmitted by the bite of an infected tsetse fly and it is most common in rural areas. They
are each named for the regions of Africa, where they were found historically. This type of African
sleeping sickness is carries by a large biting fly, known as the tsetse fly. The fly serves both as a host
and a vector for the trypanosome parasites. The Trypanosoma brucei rhodesiense is commonly found
in East Africa and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are two stages: what happens in a person when they become affected, and what happened in the
tsetse fly once it bites the human. In the human stages the tsetse fly takes a blood meal inside the host.
They inject trypomastigotes and they transform into bloodstream trypomastigotes. They are carried to
other areas of the body and reach other body fluids like lymph or blood. Then the blood stream
trypomastigotes multiply by binary fission in the body fluid. While this happens in the body of the
host, the tsetse fly stages begin. When the fly is taking the blood meal, the bloodstream
trypomastigotes are ingested. They transform into procyclic trypomastigotes in the fly s midgut. The
procyclic trypomastigotes multiply also by binary fission. Then they leave the midgut and transform
again into epimastigotes. They continue to multiply by binary fission in the salivary glands of the
tsetse fly. In the tsetse fly this cycle takes about three weeks to finish.

Taming Of Katherina In Shakespeare s The Taming Of The Shrew
Material culture significantly impacts the taming of Katherina by Petruchio in William Shakespeare s
play, The Taming of the Shrew. Katherina begins the play constantly defending herself against the
insults of her society and matching wits with the men in her life. Because her father and all potential
suitors in Padua view her rebellious spirit as curst and shrewd, Petruchio s wit and interest encourage
her acceptance of his proposal (Shakespeare 1.1.179). However, following a wedding in which her
new husband arrives late to the ceremony, dresses poorly, and forces her to leave the celebration early
against her will, the formerly outspoken Katherina feels embarrassment and a loss of dignity.
Petruchio then builds on her insecurities and shock as he takes Katherina to his taming school in their
new home to teach her to hold her tongue and mind her husband (Shakespeare 4.2.55). Petruchio
accomplishes his plan while at the same time, by withholding food, sleep, and clothing, he becomes a
greater shrew and devilish character than Katherina ever was before her taming process began.
Petruchio s taming school is a place in which Katherina receives training to become a wife who
follows the social conventions of the time which values quiet tongues and spirits in women. Petruchio
compares Katherina to an untrained falcon, who merely requires tough love to follow the directions of
its master. He plans to train her as a man would train a falcon to respond to his voice alone

Yojimbo Comparison

Course: FPC211 Section A
Final Assignment: Essay Yojimbo (1961)/ A Fistful Of Dollars (1967)
The following essay is on two films, Yojimbo (1961) directed by Akira Kurosawa A Fistful Of Dollars
(1967) directed by Sergio Leone. The film Yojimbo was plagiarized by Sergio Leone when he made A
Fistful Of Dollars and Kurosawa sued for royalties.
A Fistful Of Dollars is a 1964 spaghetti western film directed by Sergio Leone starring Clint
Eastwood. The film was shot on a low budget. It is part of the Dollars Trilogy A Fistful Of Dollars,
For A Few Dollars More and The Good, The Bad The Ugly.
The premise behind A Fistful Of Dollars is a cowboy arrives at a Mexican town and immediately is
tested by 4 locals who he guns down with ease. An old innkeeper in the town explains to Clint
Eastwood The Stranger about a feud between two families in the town. The original entitled, Yojimbo

their weapon of choice. Due to ethnicity variances, the original version, Yojimbo, use Swords and the
Italian version, A Fistful of Dollars use Pistols. The decision was based on not only cultural factors but
also the likelihood that it needs to appeal to its current audience, hence, American s Versus the
Japanese. One particular detail is the use of substances in their mouths. I am referring to how the
characters are consistently occupied with some form of object that they are either chewing or
smoking. Joe, from the Italian version, smokes a cigarillo in the film whereas A Ronin from Yojimbo
is constantly chewing on an object. One obvious similarity is that they are both lone cowboy/ronin s

Becoming A Litigation Lawyer
To accomplish great things, we must not only act, but also dream; not only plan, but also believe.
People often get dreams mixed up with goals. Maybe it s because they don t know the difference or
because it s easier to imagine than it is to do. Something that you can close your eyes and picture it
happening simply because we don t want to put in the time and effort it takes to accomplish these so
called goals . Sure, you can start off with a dream, but you can t stop there. Eventually those dreams
you have need to become plans, and just like that those plans convert to goals and if you want it bad
enough you can have it. My ultimate goal, the one above all the rest, is to become a litigation lawyer.
My immediate family consists of my six siblings and I plus both of my parents. We are African
American and our family is strongly based on religion. One thing I believe is super important in
general is helping others whether it be something as little as opening the door or even waving to the
guy across the street. Giving back to others because they did something for you or because you just
felt like it, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Well it s exactly the same when you want to achieve a goal, you need to have a structured plan that
you re going to act upon. For instance I want a 3.5 4.0 GPA so , my action plan to achieve this is to
study hard, come in for tutoring when I need it, and asking questions when i m confused. The
University of Pennsylvania is a beautiful school, but unfortunately I would have to go to college
before law school so I will need to complete college and then transfer there. Back to my ultimate goal
which is to become a litigation lawyer. In order to become a licensed litigation lawyer, I will need to
earn a bachelor s degree in law, meet or pass the state bar exam. The last thing I need to become a
lawyer is to work on my written and oral communication

Attempting to Pin Down a Definition of Childhood Essay
The term Childhood has always be hard to define as it will vary from each person, every person would
have experienced a childhood but how they define theirs is a different story. Childhood is the time for
children to be in school and at play, to grow strong and confident with the love and encouragement of
their family and an extended community of caring adults. (UNICEF, 2005). From a psychological
view childhood would be defined as the space between birth and attainment of adulthood; but it is far
more than that, it a special time where the child children are safe from violence, free from fear,
protected from exploitation and abuse and free to explore the treasures of life. In the UK there is no

When asked, many celebrities (sports figures, actors, musicians) state that they don t want to be role
models. (Cohen, E 2005;384)Aristotle would potentially argue that is was not a choice a person can
make. As celebrities they are so prominent in society they have no choice but to be a role model and
take the responsibilities seriously.
Banduras work on social learning shown that much of learning that occurs during development is
acquired through observation and imitation. Behaviour is learned from the environment through the
process of observational learning (1977), Children observe the people around them behaving in
various ways. (1961). When this topic is brought to light many of us would agree that children learn
best from role models and choose to imitate the behaviour they desire. In today society there are
enough negative role models for children to choose from. Both adolescents and children copy the
appearances and actions of those in movies, music videos, videos and television. However, today s
society especially the media are not modelling pro social behaviour or promoting family values. Many
parents fear to think of their child imitating actions from a negative role model .
Whether the daughter or son acknowledges it or not, parents are one of the child s biggest role models
and hold the more influence over decision making and what happens in their life. From when the child
is born to when they leave home, some of their parents

Portrayal Of Female Heroines From Disney s Cartoon Heroines
Not many companies can influence the childhood development of many Americans like the Walt
Disney Company. Disney, named after their founder, began as just an animation studio called The
Walt Disney Studios, which the company describes as the foundation on which The Walt Disney
Company was built . Today, Disney produces various items targeted at children like toys, clothing, and
animation ( Company ). In the paper, Images of Animated Others: The Orientalization of Disney s
Cartoon Heroines From The Little Mermaid To The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Celeste Lacroix of the
College of Charleston assesses the portrayal of female heroines from Disney animated films that
depicts human main characters, examining the sexualization of non European or the exotic others, and
brings to light Disney s strategy to instill an attitude of consumerism in children. Despite my
memorable sentiment with Disney animations as a child, I agree with Lacroix s assertion that Disney
impose consumerism onto children, especially with DVD commercials, tie in products and apps on
smartphones and tablets.
Starting off her paper, Lacroix begins with an anecdote of her visit to a theater s premier of The Lion
King. Within her anecdote, Lacroix remarks that a toddler...began shouting with glee for the character
Timon from The Lion King, which Lacroix found concerning as the toddler was all too aware even
before the movie started playing (213 214). Lacroix directs attention to the repeated exposure of

How could this be happening? Why is this guy at McDonalds dressed in all black, from head to toe?
How does he know me, and my twin sister, we are only in 5th grade? All of these questions were

communication with this Agent Dominic ? After about 8 minutes of me just standing there questioning
myself, I snapped myself out of it and talked to this Agent Dominic . How do you know me? I asked

Micro Invertebrate Species Richness At Flinders Lake
The effect of latitudinal distance from shoreline on micro invertebrate species richness at Flinders
University Lake.
Introduction:
Species diversity is characterised by the diversity within an ecological community (McGinley, 2014)
that incorporates both the total number of species in a region and the degree to which the abundance
of each of the species is similar; these concepts are termed species richness and species evenness
respectively. The Simpson s Index of Diversity is a measure of the biodiversity within a community
and is derived the number of species and their relative abundances (Knox et al., 2014). The Simpson s
Index of Diversity score ranges from 0 1; the higher the score indicates a higher diversity.
Biodiversity of micro ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In total, there were six replicates for each habitat. The dependent variable was species richness.
Results:
The data suggests Habitat A (close to shore) had a greater species richness in comparison to Habitat B
(one meter from shore), whereby the mean scores are 5 ± 1.67 and 4.5 ±1.52 respectively (see Table
1.0). Figure 1.0 compares the distribution of data for both datasets and graphically illustrates the five
number summary. Habitat A s graph has a greater range than Habitat B, whereby 50% of the data from
Habitat A obtained a species richness value from 5 to 8. Conversely, 50% of Habitat B s dataset lies
within 4 and 6.
Figure 2.0 further supports the notion above, where the Simpson s Index of Diversity is greater in
Habitat A in comparison to Habitat B, with a difference of 0.22. From Figure 3.0, it is evident the
species Copepod is most abundant in both Habitats A and B, whereby the proportional abundances are
0.628 and 0.782 respectively.

Remembering The Lost Research Paper
Remembering the Lost
(Memorialize)
All over the world, there are people who achieve such great achievement, that when they die, there is a
monument of some type that might be built for them. This doesn t have to be just when a person of
great ability to do something dies, but people might also have memorials when there is an extreme
sacrifice that was made. This might be because of hard times that were going on, and the people who
make the monument have to determine the size they want it and what materials they are going to use,
etc. There are many different procedures a person might have to go through in order to determine what
they want to do to remember somebody or a certain time period that is now gone. Three factors a
group should consider in memorializing a person or event are why it would be important to remember,
where it will be located, and what will come of doing so. First of all, it is very important to consider
why the person or time period is an important thing to remember. Before building something like this,
people need to realize that there will be many people who see the monument and wonder what the
meaning of it is. When somebody decides to build one, they need to ask themselves what the
importance is. For example, if something really bad happened to a certain community so they decided

An example in the case of Qantas is their constant struggle of market share between their domestic
competitors, Virgin Blue. This also has an inverse relationship with the domestic market, where if
there are sudden fluctuations in the international market, the domestic market may make up for the
potential loss. In order to gain this cushioning of the economic cycle, Qantas also had to effectively
spread production costs and promote operation efficiency for their growing international corporation.
Economies of scale are the reduction in costs of productions caused by increasing the scale of the
production facility and spreading fixed costs over a larger output. This means that as Qantas expands
to global markets, they can possibly gain more revenue through services and this would generate
lower average costs and the potential for higher profits. The purchase of Australian Airlines in
September 1992 allowed Qantas to more efficiently use their aircraft and improve management of
passenger capacity and transfers between domestic and international services. Through their
increasing economies of sale, they were able to gain a cushion for the economic

John Stuart Mill Liberty
On Liberty, arguably John Stuart Mill s magnus opus, is principally a criticism against the suppression
of one s individuality by an authoritarian regime or the tyranny of the majority (in the case of
democracies). He thought that so long as one s actions did not cause harm to others, no person nor
government should have the right to prohibit said action. Mill placed a heavy value on the freedom of
expression and dissent, stating if all mankind minus one, were of one opinion, and only one person
were of the contrary opinion, mankind would be no more justified in silencing that one person, than
he, if he had the power, would be justified in silencing mankind (23). He also emphasized that this
belief is not merely justified by personal philosophical ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Mill s view is that when given the opportunity of exchanging new opinions, individuals will be able to
establish a clearer perception and livelier impression of the truth (24). Going off this notion, the
permission of free expression throughout a society would allow for an entire population of individuals
to begin contributing toward these exchanges of thoughts; consequently, said society would be able to
progress at a quicker rate than if particular beliefs were prohibited or repressed because a larger
amount of participation would lead to a higher chance of a new truth being discovered. Additionally,
free and open discourse could prevent the formation of dogmas about which Mill warns us. He uses
politics as an example in his text, stating that a healthy political system is one which is composed of
both a party of order or stability and a party of progress or reform (58). Without the radical party
(progressives), the party of stability (conservatives) would be able to impose their personal doctrines
onto an entire nation with no need to provide any rational explanation. Freedom of expression permits
individuals to act as a counter voice against the customary beliefs of a community, which would then
force the majority to logically defend these customs, thus eliminating the possibility of dogmas. Mill
cites 19th century religious doctrine as an example of a failure of this process, mentioning how an
English man in 1857 was sentenced to twenty one months imprisonment for saying words deemed
offensive against Christianity (33). Mill claims that this forbiddance of opinions that opposed the
Church can be blamed as the reason why the religion had [made] so little progress in extending its
domain beyond European nations during the eighteen centuries of its existence (53). Using Millian
philosophy, had Christians

Network Virtualization And The Virtual Network Essay
Nick Dispenza Research Paper Professor Lee Overview Network Virtualization Network virtualization
is a technology, which enables combining computer network resources into a single platform
appearing as a single network. In this form of virtualization, all hardware and software in the virtual
network appear as a single collection of resource. The goal of network virtualization is to provide
systems and users with efficient, controlled, and secure sharing of the networking resources. The
product of network virtualization is the virtual network. Virtual networks are classified into two broad
types, external and internal. External virtual networks consist of several local networks that are
administered by software as a single entity. The building blocks of classic external virtual networks
are switch hardware and virtual local area network (VLAN) software technology. Examples of
external virtual networks include large corporate networks and data centers. An internal virtual
network consists of one system using virtual machines or zones whose network interfaces are
configured over at least one physical NIC. Those network interfaces are called virtual network
interface cards or virtual NICs (VNICs). These containers can communicate with each other as though
they were on the same local network, effectively becoming a virtual network on a single host. How is
network virtualization similar to server virtualization? Well, for one thing they are very similar
conceptually. On a

Music And Its Effect On Society
Music can produce many effects, mental and physical, in listeners and participants. Cultures
throughout history have recognized these effects and used music for healing, productivity, and
socialization. Currently different aspects that affect individuals chemistry, development, and
performance are being studied. The placebo effect, a common mind over matter concept, will be
looked at in its relation to music. The chemistry behind music is not as revolutionary as one might
assume. For simplicity music is stimuli and the body has automatic responses to it. The base response
is the brain stem reacting to the tempo of the music (Chanda and Levitin pg 186). Music increases
blood flow in several regions of the brain, and dopamine bonding which allows for better processing
and more enjoyment (pg 182). When stimulating or fast music was played cortisol levels increased,
and with relaxing music cortisol decreased; cortisol opens pathways used for anti stress and anti
inflammatory processes. Listening to music and singing also increased production of Immunoglobulin
A, an antibody (Chanda and Levitin pg 184). This chemistry is the body preparing itself for action;
this action will be discussed to better explain what is happening when music is listened to. There is
widespread public knowledge of music s effect on the development of children, mentally and
physically. Participating in Physical Education activities paired with music with clear rhythms assists

How Beowulf Is A Hero
Beowulf; a man whose greatness begun when he saved an entire kingdom from the clutches of the vile
monster Grendel. Beowulf was known for countlessly putting his body and his life on the line to save
his people. His courage and determination is what kept his legacy alive for all of these years. Not only
that, but the respect he had for the people around him made him a remembered warrior as well. That s
what I think makes a hero. Being determined to get a job done, having the courage to step in and
complete that job, and having enough respect for your people to still obey their wishes despite your
apparent fame. The hero I will be writing about is the fictional Marvel Comics character known as the
Black Panther (real name T Challa). He and Beowulf ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Time and time again, the Black Panther must represent his nation in front of the entire globe. Because
of this, everyone has knowledge of the Black Panther a.k.a T Challa. Black Panther s respect for his
people is shown particularly when Wakanda was invited to a very important panel that would be aired
in front of the world. This panel would include the likes of Reed Richards, Tony Stark, Steve Rogers,
and many more Big Name heroes. Panther brought along two colleagues from Wakanda to sit with
him on the panel Okoye and Nareema. When the panel intensified, it was the Black Panther turn to
offer up some resolutions. During this moment, Okoye and Nareema suggested some of their thoughts
to T Challa and the rest of the panel. Even though Stark and company tried to downplay their
suggestions, their King stepped up for them, allowing their points to be heard worldwide. No you may
not Mr. Stark, my companions will be heard! Because of T Challa s respect, he enabled Okoye and
Nareema to cultivate a sensible solution, which was eventually used to help prevent an oncoming
conflict. The Black Panther is such a great hero because he utilizes these three traits effectively. When
he sees a problem he has the courage to confront it. And no matter how much the tides seem to be
turning against him, he s always determine to find a way to save his kingdom! But what really makes
heroes like Beowulf and the Black Panther remembered, is the respect they have for those around
them. Using these three traits, their legacies will never

Opinion Poll Essay
Another factor to note is the influence of opinion polls. Parties that gain popular support during
campaigns may have benefited from the bandwagon effect , (Kay, 1997). Some undecided voters may
look at opinion polls, and other polling data to decide where the political parties stand relative to each
other. The various opinion polls conducted seem to indicate that Alberta was to be an NDP province as
the campaign neared its later stages. There were several pre election polls conducted in the province
that showed the roughly even amount of support between all three parties. However, the Progressive
Conservative s did hold an early lead at the start of the campaign, leading some to believe that they
would be re elected. As the campaign ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In addition, Jim Prentice unsuccessfully attempted to convince the Albertans on the importance of
such economic blueprint. The early election call made it possible for the NDP to take an advantage of
an unpopular budget.
By calling an early election, Jim Prentice was trying to take advantage of the political environment.
The PC government were facing a declining approval rate and Jim Prentice had hoped that an early
election would provide his government with a new mandate and more years in power. Yet, voters were
tired of the PC s budget deficits and lack of vision, and scandals, which provided the NDP the
opportunity to offer voters an alternative solution, (Leeson, 2015). These events made the NDP s
appear even more attractive to voters as a new approach to governing.
Leadership
The image of Jim Prentice has been mentioned on most occasions as a reason why Albertans withdrew
their support from the long governing PCs. The then government led by Mr. Prentice had received
poor reputation and this led to the defeat of his government. Jim Prentice was seen as an elite that was
out of touch with the common, everyday Albertan, (Sayers and Stewart, 2016). As a result of this,
many voters defected from the PC party and supported other options instead. This was an adequate
indication that the party was losing its popularity while NDP was gaining. Also, the New Democratic
Party accused the incumbent government of Jim Prentice of poor fiscal policy due to his

Candide in El Dorado
The Meaning of El Dorado and its contrast with the rest of the world: El Dorado appears to be the
perfect utopia, for others it represents an unrealistic place to live. For Voltaire this world meant his
entire desire and dream about the perfect society. Many critics note that El Dorado is only a huge
extravaganza because it consisted of contradictory statements. The meaning of El Dorado is a vision
of the perfect society and represents a false paradise impossible to attain or approach by the
destructive human nature. El Dorado contrasts with the rest of the world because at the time Candide
was written by Voltaire He lived in one important periods of the humanity, The enlightenment .

The real society in which Voltaire lived is composed for many institutions that he attacks in various
opportunities such as the church and the monarchy. For example, when Candide arrived to El Dorado
and he sees that all the people believe in the same thing and there s not a priest, no hierarchy, and all
the people are equal. That s a good strike from Voltaire to the church claiming that everybody must be
equal. According with Dalnekoff, El Dorado is a foil to the societies through which Candide has
passed and will pass where the inquisition imposes a reign of terror, and poverty, corruption and
oppression are everywhere to be found. (Utopia and Satire)In contrast of El Dorado with the
contemporary system, we found that in the contemporary system much oppression and abuses have
been committed and in El Dorado the inhabitants are very virtuous; they were a society with absence
of many institutions.
A very questionable point in Candide and his extraordinary optimism is why if he believes that
everything obeys a divine pattern and all is for the best, why didn t he remain in El Dorado?.
Dalknekoff states that the motives given by Candide for departing are hardly worthy of
commendation. His desire to be richer than all those around him is certainly deplorable. ( Impossible
dream) As Dalknekoff said, motives that move all human beings are money and the desire for
superiority.
Moreover, Shanley and Stillman endorse Candide; who States If we stay here,

Erik Erikson s Theory of Psychosocial Development
Psychoanalyst Erik Erikson s theory of psychosocial development explains how the human identity
develops and evolves in eight stages from birth to death. Each one occurs in a predetermined order;
the current stage builds upon the previous one and lays the groundwork for future stages (Wikimedia).
Each stage has a specific crisis or conflict, a turning point in the individual s life which must be
reconciled before moving on to the next. If the conflict is handled well, the individual gains ego
strength in the form of a corresponding virtue. If the conflict is handled poorly, the individual not only
fails to develop that virtue, but his/her ability to complete later stages is hindered resulting in

the job that I had worked so hard to achieve, thus giving up on the battle of generativity vs. stagnation

pushed back to intimacy vs. isolation, only this time I chose isolation. Even while surrounded by
friends and family trying to console me, I had never felt more alone. I was surprised when their
sympathy turned into impatience. When it took more than a few weeks for me to get over it, I was
labeled a complainer. I quickly realized that no one truly understood what it was like to lose the one

Government is the governing body of a nation, state, or community. When you hear the word
government you usually think of the capitol building or the white house in Washington, D.C..
Government can be defined by the people involved, the system in place, or the process in use. The
government impacts our everyday lives because it regulates different services that include protection,
electricity, health care, maintenance and water. The fifth and final field is History. History is the study
of the past. All developed countries have their National Archives and a historical profession, both paid
for out of taxpayers money. Those who study history, for career purposes, or just personal enjoyment,
have other reasons apart from this all embracing justification for natural resources being channeled
into the study of history. History happens each and every day and changes the country. It can also
affect the way we see the United States. Even the smallest things can change an entire nation. So now
you know how these five things that seemed so small affects our nation every day. They are culture,
economics, geography, government and history. You can always learn more about these five things

Traits and Values Associated with Femininity in Antigone
ANTIGONE
The conventionally accepted roles of both males and females in ancient Grecian society were well
defined and manifested. Women were considered the weaker of the sexes and, thus, were expected to
remain in the home and perform their domestic duties, while the men were to be rulers and bread
winners. The woman s voice was not heard on any issues affecting the society as her opinions were
thought unworthy of consideration. She was required merely to reproduce, to execute her domestic
duties well and to submit incontestably to the authority of the men. In essence the Greeks valued their
women almost as little as a common slave was valued. These values and traits associated with
femininity in ancient Grecian societies are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Property ownership could only be achieved through gifts, dowry and inheritance. The most important
role of women in ancient Greece, especially married women, was considered to be the production of
lawful children and the execution if household chores. Also she was required to literally remain inside
the home, except she was attending a special event as in those days women found in the streets were
either assumed to be enslaved, a harlot, a concubine or a woman who had to find work outside of the
home because of poverty (Thompson, par.8). It was also considered respectable for a woman to
remain out of sight and audible range when the man of the house had guests. Evidently, women of
ancient Greece were subjected to what modern day women may consider harsh and unfair treatment as
a result of some irrational beliefs and practices that were given judicial recognition. Because of fear of
facing the consequences that may arise from contesting these laws, many women living during that
period made no attempt to do so. So they remained as they were considered to be weak and helpless
because of fear. Sophocles mythical anecdote of Antigone, however, shows the apparently unseen
characteristics of women, though not all women, in ancient Greece. They were not as weak, helpless
and unwise as they were believed to have been but were strong willed individuals, possessing strong
characters and competent of making sound decisions.

One would think there are enough conflicts to be had in the Middle East. The area is simply a
breeding ground for turmoil, and has been for centuries. Of the many conflicts that revolve around the
areas history, politics, religion, territory or ethnicity, one more can be added to the group: water. These
societies all need water, but not all have the same resources to get to that water. What is the hotbed of
vice in this situation is only a few of the countries in the Middle East have total control over their own
water, leaving most of the others to depend on the graces of those few countries to manage their water

downstream was better able to utilize the rivers water for agriculture and industry, but saying that,
today, newer technologies and techniques give upstream countries more options and are disrupting
ancient patterns of water usage, threatening relationships built on these patterns (Washington).
The lifeline of Iraq has always been the Tigris and Euphrates rivers, but most of the water from these
rivers originates in another country. Eighty eight percent of the water from the Euphrates River
originates in Turkey, with the remainder from two rivers that enter in Syria (Francona). One expert has
gone as far to say that 98% of the Euphrates starts in Turkey (Kaya). That leaves virtually nothing
added to the river from water in Iraq, meaning that Iraqs supply of water from the Euphrates is totally
dependant on the nature of control that Turkey and Syria have over the river. The Tigris largely
originates in Turkey as well, supplying as much as 51% of the annual water volume, while Iraq has its

Five years ago, who d have thought Donald Trump could become the most powerful person in the
world? Truth may be stranger than fiction, but if there s any lesson here, it s that too many people
prefer fiction to the truth. Conspiracy theories have gripped the public imagination to such an extent
that an armchair crank stands at the White House lawn.
Preening himself at the mirror of his nation s prejudices and delusions of grandeur, his policies of
extreme nationalism, and protectionism, are founded upon conspiracy and misinformation.

Since that déjà vu moment, when her quavering falsetto echoed through the Senate chamber,

Mysteriously, the conspicuous failure of Asians to overrun us since her prediction 20 years ago, hasn t
dampened Hanson s confidence, or fatally wounded her credibility. Quite the opposite, in fact. Why is
this so?
An answer may be found in the Dunning Kruger effect: the curious phenomenon of confident idiots
emboldened by their own ignorance, rather than cautioned by it.
The 1999 Dunning Kruger study found those armed with low metacognitive skills grossly
overestimated their own competence in metacognitive tasks. Those with test scores in the 12th

Modern World Of The New World
Introduction
In 2015, there is no need to talk about our world getting defined by technology. Everything we know
and everything we deal with has been converted into digital sense and to digital state. Moreover, the
majority of objects surrounding us have received a description of smart , which no longer confuses our
understanding. The world has become more demanding to technology and more sophisticated to its
choices. The way to satisfy a contemporary customer is to design a device that would maintain as
many functions as possible in as small gadget as it gets. Therefore, modern world of the new decade is
called mobile world.
Even though mobile phones have been in operation for three decades now, a fierce competition
between mobile platforms has been going on since the spread of smart phones, which started in 2010.
This struggle basically divided the world into supporters of iOS and Android giants, with others going
for three more giants like Blackberry OS, Windows Phone 7, and Symbian. In fact, mobile platforms
deal not exceptionally with smart phones, but also operate software on other portable devices like
tablets or laptops. A must have in a fast paced world, mobile platforms have integrated into every
sphere of life. Therefore, they are an extremely relevant and important issue to study in a research
paper.
Our research is going to deal with the study of the role that mobile platforms play in a modern society,
as means and tools of information delivery. In our

Violent Video Games Effects On Children Essay

Violent Video Games and Their Effect on Children Ever since the creation of the first video game,
they have had a certain effect on the individuals who play them. As video games have become more
advanced and elaborate, children s interest is at an all time high. With the degree of violence that has
been a part of video games since the early 1990 s, parents and activists have claimed that these games
are affecting children negatively. This claim only seems to contradict other major factors that may
have a part in the developing minds of youth. There are other mental, problems at home or school, as
well as programs and movies shown by the media that could have an effect on children. ... Show more

Violent video games can be used as an outlet for some of this aggression. A discussion in class
regarding violent video games brought up a view that some of the class, myself included, use violent
video games to relieve stress and frustration. Some still believe that violent games should be banned
because of youth violence. Sharon Jayson, a writer for USA Today, quotes from Christopher Ferguson,
an associate professor at Texas A M International University in Laredo, that delinquent peer
influences, antisocial personality traits, depression, and parents/guardians who use psychological
abuse are risk factors for youth violence and aggression (Ferguson qtd in Jayson). It is also stated that
some of the factors stated earlier by Williams were not predictive of youth violence and aggression
(Ferguson qtd in Jayson). There is no single factor that can be attributed to aggressive behavior in
children. I still contend that these factors can have their effect on children if they don t have someone
to help them to understand what s going on and how to resolve their issues. Those who believe that
video games cause youth violence have plans of their own or don t have a clear understanding of what
s in the games. For example, the Grand Theft Auto series, one of the most popular and highest selling

Independence Movement of Brazil and Mexico.
If revolutionary movement is defined as a social movement dedicated to changing the power or the
organizational structures by an independence movement, and if most is defined as greatest, successful
as a desired outcome and original rationale and/or purpose is defined as an fundamental intentional
reason, then between the countries of Brazil and Mexico, Brazil had the most successful revolutionary
movement in terms of its original rationale and/or purpose because Brazil, unlike the Mexican
independence movement, had a greater universal agreement about independence between every social
class, Brazil was politically stable after independence and it was economically stable after
independence.

The war of independence was not a lopsided contest with a foregone conclusion; it was, rather, a
struggle in which the nation was divided into loyalties and in which the final outcome was not
inevitable; it was a revolutionary civil war (Bethell 70). In Brazil independence was in universal
agreement between all social classes, since Brazil was only split into two classes, due to their unique
system that allows a slave to earn his freedom and make a living. Because of its system of clientele
and patronage, the racial and social tension present in Mexico was less severe in Brazil, which is why
Mexico had a dissenting agreement on the matter of independence. The support for independence was
in concordance from both sides of these social classes of Brazil. Acting with the support of the
Brazilian aristocracy, who were anxious to preserve their considerable landholdings from which they
exported sugar, coffee, and cotton, and with the backing of the British, who were eager to monopolize
the trade with Brazil, the monarch moved to secure Brazil s autonomy (Meade 74). The slave
populations as well as the Brazilian aristocracy were in full support of independence, creating a
national bond on the subject. Lower class blacks and mulattoes saw independence as a step towards
eliminating the racial discrimination that prohibited their appointment to administrative positions
(Viotti da Costa 8). Since the idea of independence was not fully

Each mitochondrion has a double layered membrane like the cell membrane, however the inner layer
is folder which produces shelves which are known as cristae, this is where the end stages of glucose
oxidation are located. The energy that has been released is stored until required by a chemical battery
called adenosine triphosphate. Endoplasmic reticulum: Endo means with in and reticulum is a
complex word meaning network. There are two variations to endoplasmic reticulum (ER) which are

  • 2. Railway Labor Act Essay Railway Labor Act and Impact on Modern Day Airlines For decades, the railroad industry was in a period of great economic political, and industrial changes in the United States. The industrial boom was taking its toll on the United States, and the widespread violent work stoppages were detrimental to the railroad industry due to tensions escalating between unions and workers. President Calvin Coolidge was strongly vocal about the issue and urged railroads and unions to recommend legislation to improve relations and ultimately reduce the threat of any railroad shutdowns. As a response, railroads and unions immediately drafted legislation, which in hopes would improve labor and union relations. On May 20, 1029, President Coolidge signed and designated the new law as the Railway Labor Act of 1926. Coined one of the most significant and longest lasting pieces of legislation, the Railway Labor Act provides a mechanism through which labor disputes between railroads and currently airlines, could be handled in a peaceful, non disruptive manner. The Railway Labor Act of 1926 is unique unlike other legislations because it ensures no interruption to commerce, provides an unhindered right of employees to join a labor union, guarantees independence of an organization to enact the RLA, assists in work rules and working conditions, and assists in a prompt and orderly settlement of disputes. The Railway Labor Act is certainly different due to the relationship of labor and management in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Theme Of Class Struggle In A Tale Of Two Cities A Tale of Two Cities is a novel by Dickens written in 1859. It is one of the most famous productions of world literature. Dickens first purpose was to publish this work through a newspaper. In fact, he ended up publishing his novel in his All the Year Round literary magazine for 31 weeks. The novel is set place in London and Paris and is shaped around one of the most restless periods of history, the French Revolution. Charles Dickens tries to show the insight of the French Revolution in which the bourgeoisie and aristocrat class carried out a bloody strife on the lower classes. Dickens displays this in a very realistic and frustrated fiction. The novel basically revolves around the lives of its characters before and after French Revolution. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (Book 1, Chapter 7) This shows that no matter what the case is, if you are lower in class you lose. Dickens portrayed class struggle as one of the main causes of the Revolution. If we compare the pictures Dickens painted to the information in historical sources we will see that he is accurate. There was political turmoil among the upper classes, huge population growth among the peasants, and frustrated bourgeois class. (Revolution and Masters) Dickens continues to illustrate corrupted power. Monseigneur s cruel philosophy illustrates the mindset that has crept into the most privileged class and demonstrates how power can corrupt. The contrast between his philosophy and his nephew s beliefs further underscores the suffering of the masses. (Book 2, Chapter ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Self-Acquaintance And John Winthrop s City Upon A Hill For our second week of school, we learned about the different Puritan ideals and how they influenced our society today. In this essay, I will discuss one of those many ideals and provide evidence to defend that it is, indeed, a Puritanical ideal that can be found in many early colonial pieces of literature, such as Self Acquaintance by William Cooper, Here followes some verses upon the burning of our house, July 10th, 1666 by Anne Bradstreet, and John Winthrop s City Upon A Hill, 1630. Loyalty to God, or faith, is a Puritan ideal. Faith is a Puritan ideal as shown in many early colonial works. In Self Acquaintance by William Cooper, the speaker begins to question his faith before stating, Oh, cleanse me in a Saviour s blood,/Transform me by thy pow r,/And make me thy beloved abode,/And let me rove no more. As he begins to wander from his faith, he cries out to God, his Saviour, to cleanse him from the sin of doubting his faith. • 5. Research Paper On African Trypanosomiasis African Trypanosomiasis My disease is called the African Trypanosomiasis or sleeping sickness. The microbe of the disease is a protozoa of the species Trypanasoma brucei. There are two types of the sleeping sickness that infects humans; Trypanosoma brucei rhodesiense (T.b.r), and Trypanosoma brucei gambiense (T.b.g). Both are mainly transmitted by the bite of an infected tsetse fly and it is most common in rural areas. They are each named for the regions of Africa, where they were found historically. This type of African sleeping sickness is carries by a large biting fly, known as the tsetse fly. The fly serves both as a host and a vector for the trypanosome parasites. The Trypanosoma brucei rhodesiense is commonly found in East Africa and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are two stages: what happens in a person when they become affected, and what happened in the tsetse fly once it bites the human. In the human stages the tsetse fly takes a blood meal inside the host. They inject trypomastigotes and they transform into bloodstream trypomastigotes. They are carried to other areas of the body and reach other body fluids like lymph or blood. Then the blood stream trypomastigotes multiply by binary fission in the body fluid. While this happens in the body of the host, the tsetse fly stages begin. When the fly is taking the blood meal, the bloodstream trypomastigotes are ingested. They transform into procyclic trypomastigotes in the fly s midgut. The procyclic trypomastigotes multiply also by binary fission. Then they leave the midgut and transform again into epimastigotes. They continue to multiply by binary fission in the salivary glands of the tsetse fly. In the tsetse fly this cycle takes about three weeks to finish. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Taming Of Katherina In Shakespeare s The Taming Of The Shrew Material culture significantly impacts the taming of Katherina by Petruchio in William Shakespeare s play, The Taming of the Shrew. Katherina begins the play constantly defending herself against the insults of her society and matching wits with the men in her life. Because her father and all potential suitors in Padua view her rebellious spirit as curst and shrewd, Petruchio s wit and interest encourage her acceptance of his proposal (Shakespeare 1.1.179). However, following a wedding in which her new husband arrives late to the ceremony, dresses poorly, and forces her to leave the celebration early against her will, the formerly outspoken Katherina feels embarrassment and a loss of dignity. Petruchio then builds on her insecurities and shock as he takes Katherina to his taming school in their new home to teach her to hold her tongue and mind her husband (Shakespeare 4.2.55). Petruchio accomplishes his plan while at the same time, by withholding food, sleep, and clothing, he becomes a greater shrew and devilish character than Katherina ever was before her taming process began. Petruchio s taming school is a place in which Katherina receives training to become a wife who follows the social conventions of the time which values quiet tongues and spirits in women. Petruchio compares Katherina to an untrained falcon, who merely requires tough love to follow the directions of its master. He plans to train her as a man would train a falcon to respond to his voice alone ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Yojimbo Comparison Michael Swain March, 3rd, 2015 Course: FPC211 Section A Final Assignment: Essay Yojimbo (1961)/ A Fistful Of Dollars (1967) The following essay is on two films, Yojimbo (1961) directed by Akira Kurosawa A Fistful Of Dollars (1967) directed by Sergio Leone. The film Yojimbo was plagiarized by Sergio Leone when he made A Fistful Of Dollars and Kurosawa sued for royalties. A Fistful Of Dollars is a 1964 spaghetti western film directed by Sergio Leone starring Clint Eastwood. The film was shot on a low budget. It is part of the Dollars Trilogy A Fistful Of Dollars, For A Few Dollars More and The Good, The Bad The Ugly. The premise behind A Fistful Of Dollars is a cowboy arrives at a Mexican town and immediately is tested by 4 locals who he guns down with ease. An old innkeeper in the town explains to Clint Eastwood The Stranger about a feud between two families in the town. The decision was based on not only cultural factors but also the likelihood that it needs to appeal to its current audience, hence, American s Versus the Japanese. One particular detail is the use of substances in their mouths. I am referring to how the characters are consistently occupied with some form of object that they are either chewing or smoking. Maybe it s because they don t know the difference or because it s easier to imagine than it is to do. Something that you can close your eyes and picture it happening simply because we don t want to put in the time and effort it takes to accomplish these so called goals . Sure, you can start off with a dream, but you can t stop there. Eventually those dreams you have need to become plans, and just like that those plans convert to goals and if you want it bad enough you can have it. My ultimate goal, the one above all the rest, is to become a litigation lawyer. My immediate family consists of my six siblings and I plus both of my parents. We are African American and our family is strongly based on religion. Childhood is the time for children to be in school and at play, to grow strong and confident with the love and encouragement of their family and an extended community of caring adults. (UNICEF, 2005). From a psychological view childhood would be defined as the space between birth and attainment of adulthood; but it is far more than that, it a special time where the child children are safe from violence, free from fear, protected from exploitation and abuse and free to explore the treasures of life. As celebrities they are so prominent in society they have no choice but to be a role model and take the responsibilities seriously. Banduras work on social learning shown that much of learning that occurs during development is acquired through observation and imitation. Behaviour is learned from the environment through the process of observational learning (1977), Children observe the people around them behaving in various ways. (1961). When this topic is brought to light many of us would agree that children learn best from role models and choose to imitate the behaviour they desire. In today society there are enough negative role models for children to choose from. Both adolescents and children copy the appearances and actions of those in movies, music videos, videos and television. However, today s society especially the media are not modelling pro social behaviour or promoting family values. Many parents fear to think of their child imitating actions from a negative role model . Disney, named after their founder, began as just an animation studio called The Walt Disney Studios, which the company describes as the foundation on which The Walt Disney Company was built . Today, Disney produces various items targeted at children like toys, clothing, and animation ( Company ). In the paper, Images of Animated Others: The Orientalization of Disney s Cartoon Heroines From The Little Mermaid To The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Celeste Lacroix of the College of Charleston assesses the portrayal of female heroines from Disney animated films that depicts human main characters, examining the sexualization of non European or the exotic others, and brings to light Disney s strategy to instill an attitude of consumerism in children. Despite my memorable sentiment with Disney animations as a child, I agree with Lacroix s assertion that Disney impose consumerism onto children, especially with DVD commercials, tie in products and apps on smartphones and tablets. Starting off her paper, Lacroix begins with an anecdote of her visit to a theater s premier of The Lion King. Within her anecdote, Lacroix remarks that a toddler...began shouting with glee for the character Timon from The Lion King, which Lacroix found concerning as the toddler was all too aware even before the movie started playing (213 214). Introduction: Species diversity is characterised by the diversity within an ecological community (McGinley, 2014) that incorporates both the total number of species in a region and the degree to which the abundance of each of the species is similar; these concepts are termed species richness and species evenness respectively. The Simpson s Index of Diversity is a measure of the biodiversity within a community and is derived the number of species and their relative abundances (Knox et al., 2014). Figure 1.0 compares the distribution of data for both datasets and graphically illustrates the five number summary. Remembering The Lost Research Paper Remembering the Lost (Memorialize) All over the world, there are people who achieve such great achievement, that when they die, there is a monument of some type that might be built for them. This doesn t have to be just when a person of great ability to do something dies, but people might also have memorials when there is an extreme sacrifice that was made. This might be because of hard times that were going on, and the people who make the monument have to determine the size they want it and what materials they are going to use, etc. There are many different procedures a person might have to go through in order to determine what they want to do to remember somebody or a certain time period that is now gone. Three factors a group should consider in memorializing a person or event are why it would be important to remember, where it will be located, and what will come of doing so. First of all, it is very important to consider why the person or time period is an important thing to remember. Before building something like this, people need to realize that there will be many people who see the monument and wonder what the meaning of it is. • 18. John Stuart Mill Liberty On Liberty, arguably John Stuart Mill s magnus opus, is principally a criticism against the suppression of one s individuality by an authoritarian regime or the tyranny of the majority (in the case of democracies). He thought that so long as one s actions did not cause harm to others, no person nor government should have the right to prohibit said action. Mill placed a heavy value on the freedom of expression and dissent, stating if all mankind minus one, were of one opinion, and only one person were of the contrary opinion, mankind would be no more justified in silencing that one person, than he, if he had the power, would be justified in silencing mankind (23). He also emphasized that this belief is not merely justified by personal philosophical ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Mill s view is that when given the opportunity of exchanging new opinions, individuals will be able to establish a clearer perception and livelier impression of the truth (24). Going off this notion, the permission of free expression throughout a society would allow for an entire population of individuals to begin contributing toward these exchanges of thoughts; consequently, said society would be able to progress at a quicker rate than if particular beliefs were prohibited or repressed because a larger amount of participation would lead to a higher chance of a new truth being discovered. Additionally, free and open discourse could prevent the formation of dogmas about which Mill warns us. He uses politics as an example in his text, stating that a healthy political system is one which is composed of both a party of order or stability and a party of progress or reform (58). Without the radical party (progressives), the party of stability (conservatives) would be able to impose their personal doctrines onto an entire nation with no need to provide any rational explanation. Freedom of expression permits individuals to act as a counter voice against the customary beliefs of a community, which would then force the majority to logically defend these customs, thus eliminating the possibility of dogmas. Mill cites 19th century religious doctrine as an example of a failure of this process, mentioning how an English man in 1857 was sentenced to twenty one months imprisonment for saying words deemed offensive against Christianity (33). Mill claims that this forbiddance of opinions that opposed the Church can be blamed as the reason why the religion had [made] so little progress in extending its domain beyond European nations during the eighteen centuries of its existence (53). Network Virtualization And The Virtual Network Essay Nick Dispenza Research Paper Professor Lee Overview Network Virtualization Network virtualization is a technology, which enables combining computer network resources into a single platform appearing as a single network. In this form of virtualization, all hardware and software in the virtual network appear as a single collection of resource. The goal of network virtualization is to provide systems and users with efficient, controlled, and secure sharing of the networking resources. The product of network virtualization is the virtual network. Virtual networks are classified into two broad types, external and internal. External virtual networks consist of several local networks that are administered by software as a single entity. The building blocks of classic external virtual networks are switch hardware and virtual local area network (VLAN) software technology. Examples of external virtual networks include large corporate networks and data centers. An internal virtual network consists of one system using virtual machines or zones whose network interfaces are configured over at least one physical NIC. Those network interfaces are called virtual network interface cards or virtual NICs (VNICs). These containers can communicate with each other as though they were on the same local network, effectively becoming a virtual network on a single host. Cultures throughout history have recognized these effects and used music for healing, productivity, and socialization. Currently different aspects that affect individuals chemistry, development, and performance are being studied. The placebo effect, a common mind over matter concept, will be looked at in its relation to music. The chemistry behind music is not as revolutionary as one might assume. For simplicity music is stimuli and the body has automatic responses to it. The base response is the brain stem reacting to the tempo of the music (Chanda and Levitin pg 186). Music increases blood flow in several regions of the brain, and dopamine bonding which allows for better processing and more enjoyment (pg 182). When stimulating or fast music was played cortisol levels increased, and with relaxing music cortisol decreased; cortisol opens pathways used for anti stress and anti inflammatory processes. Listening to music and singing also increased production of Immunoglobulin A, an antibody (Chanda and Levitin pg 184). This chemistry is the body preparing itself for action; this action will be discussed to better explain what is happening when music is listened to. Yet, voters were tired of the PC s budget deficits and lack of vision, and scandals, which provided the NDP the opportunity to offer voters an alternative solution, (Leeson, 2015). • 29. Traits and Values Associated with Femininity in Antigone ANTIGONE The conventionally accepted roles of both males and females in ancient Grecian society were well defined and manifested. Women were considered the weaker of the sexes and, thus, were expected to remain in the home and perform their domestic duties, while the men were to be rulers and bread winners. The woman s voice was not heard on any issues affecting the society as her opinions were thought unworthy of consideration. She was required merely to reproduce, to execute her domestic duties well and to submit incontestably to the authority of the men. In essence the Greeks valued their women almost as little as a common slave was valued. These values and traits associated with femininity in ancient Grecian societies are ... The most important role of women in ancient Greece, especially married women, was considered to be the production of lawful children and the execution if household chores. Also she was required to literally remain inside the home, except she was attending a special event as in those days women found in the streets were either assumed to be enslaved, a harlot, a concubine or a woman who had to find work outside of the home because of poverty (Thompson, par.8). It was also considered respectable for a woman to remain out of sight and audible range when the man of the house had guests. Evidently, women of ancient Greece were subjected to what modern day women may consider harsh and unfair treatment as a result of some irrational beliefs and practices that were given judicial recognition. Because of fear of facing the consequences that may arise from contesting these laws, many women living during that period made no attempt to do so. So they remained as they were considered to be weak and helpless because of fear. Sophocles mythical anecdote of Antigone, however, shows the apparently unseen characteristics of women, though not all women, in ancient Greece. They were not as weak, helpless and unwise as they were believed to have been but were strong willed individuals, possessing strong characters and competent of making sound decisions. ... • 30. Drinking Water and Irrigation Water Shortages in the... One would think there are enough conflicts to be had in the Middle East. The area is simply a breeding ground for turmoil, and has been for centuries. Of the many conflicts that revolve around the areas history, politics, religion, territory or ethnicity, one more can be added to the group: water. These societies all need water, but not all have the same resources to get to that water. What is the hotbed of vice in this situation is only a few of the countries in the Middle East have total control over their own water, leaving most of the others to depend on the graces of those few countries to manage their water magnanimously enough to supply them with what they need. With Turkey and Israel in control of much of the Middle ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If a river is located in multiple countries, often the country downstream will find itself at odds with the country that is located upstream. According to the Water: fuel for conflict in the Middle East article in the Washington Report on Middle East Affairs in July, 2003, it said that generally, the country downstream was better able to utilize the rivers water for agriculture and industry, but saying that, today, newer technologies and techniques give upstream countries more options and are disrupting ancient patterns of water usage, threatening relationships built on these patterns (Washington). The lifeline of Iraq has always been the Tigris and Euphrates rivers, but most of the water from these rivers originates in another country. Eighty eight percent of the water from the Euphrates River originates in Turkey, with the remainder from two rivers that enter in Syria (Francona). One expert has gone as far to say that 98% of the Euphrates starts in Turkey (Kaya). That leaves virtually nothing added to the river from water in Iraq, meaning that Iraqs supply of water from the Euphrates is totally dependant on the nature of control that Turkey and Syria have over the river. The Tigris largely originates in Turkey as well, supplying as much as 51% of the annual water volume, while Iraq has its only claim to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 31. Donald Trump s Conspiracy Essay Five years ago, who d have thought Donald Trump could become the most powerful person in the world? Truth may be stranger than fiction, but if there s any lesson here, it s that too many people prefer fiction to the truth. Conspiracy theories have gripped the public imagination to such an extent that an armchair crank stands at the White House lawn. Preening himself at the mirror of his nation s prejudices and delusions of grandeur, his policies of extreme nationalism, and protectionism, are founded upon conspiracy and misinformation. His self professed straight talking starts with a that s good or a that s bad , and then proceeds in a linear stream of consciousness resulting in whatever course of action would make American great ... Closer to home, we have One Nation s Malcolm Roberts who s still enthralled by the vintage conspiracy theory that Jewish International Bankers control the world. He may have read Pauline Hanson s ironically titled book, The Truth, in which supported to the crazy paranoia about the New World Order . Since that déjà vu moment, when her quavering falsetto echoed through the Senate chamber, informing us that we re in danger of being swamped by Muslims (not Asians), her support has quadrupled. Mysteriously, the conspicuous failure of Asians to overrun us since her prediction 20 years ago, hasn t dampened Hanson s confidence, or fatally wounded her credibility. Quite the opposite, in fact. Why is this so? An answer may be found in the Dunning Kruger effect: the curious phenomenon of confident idiots emboldened by their own ignorance, rather than cautioned by it. The 1999 Dunning Kruger study found those armed with low metacognitive skills grossly overestimated their own competence in metacognitive tasks. Those with test scores in the 12th percentile estimated themselves to be in the 62nd. And so, according to David Dunning, those with intellectual deficits are often blessed with an inappropriate confidence, buoyed by something that feels to them like ... • 32. Modern World Of The New World Introduction In 2015, there is no need to talk about our world getting defined by technology. Everything we know and everything we deal with has been converted into digital sense and to digital state. Moreover, the majority of objects surrounding us have received a description of smart , which no longer confuses our understanding. The world has become more demanding to technology and more sophisticated to its choices. The way to satisfy a contemporary customer is to design a device that would maintain as many functions as possible in as small gadget as it gets. Therefore, modern world of the new decade is called mobile world. Even though mobile phones have been in operation for three decades now, a fierce competition between mobile platforms has been going on since the spread of smart phones, which started in 2010. This struggle basically divided the world into supporters of iOS and Android giants, with others going for three more giants like Blackberry OS, Windows Phone 7, and Symbian. In fact, mobile platforms deal not exceptionally with smart phones, but also operate software on other portable devices like tablets or laptops. A must have in a fast paced world, mobile platforms have integrated into every sphere of life. Therefore, they are an extremely relevant and important issue to study in a research paper. Our research is going to deal with the study of the role that mobile platforms play in a modern society, as means and tools of information delivery. In our ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. Violent Video Games Effects On Children Essay Sean Brinker Professor Colbert English 128 03 7 April 2010 Violent Video Games and Their Effect on Children Ever since the creation of the first video game, they have had a certain effect on the individuals who play them. As video games have become more advanced and elaborate, children s interest is at an all time high. With the degree of violence that has been a part of video games since the early 1990 s, parents and activists have claimed that these games are affecting children negatively. This claim only seems to contradict other major factors that may have a part in the developing minds of youth. There are other mental, problems at home or school, as well as programs and movies shown by the media that could have an effect on children. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Violent video games can be used as an outlet for some of this aggression. A discussion in class regarding violent video games brought up a view that some of the class, myself included, use violent video games to relieve stress and frustration. Some still believe that violent games should be banned because of youth violence. Sharon Jayson, a writer for USA Today, quotes from Christopher Ferguson, an associate professor at Texas A M International University in Laredo, that delinquent peer influences, antisocial personality traits, depression, and parents/guardians who use psychological abuse are risk factors for youth violence and aggression (Ferguson qtd in Jayson). It is also stated that some of the factors stated earlier by Williams were not predictive of youth violence and aggression (Ferguson qtd in Jayson). There is no single factor that can be attributed to aggressive behavior in children. I still contend that these factors can have their effect on children if they don t have someone to help them to understand what s going on and how to resolve their issues. Those who believe that video games cause youth violence have plans of their own or don t have a clear understanding of what s in the games. For example, the Grand Theft Auto series, one of the most popular and highest selling game ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

If revolutionary movement is defined as a social movement dedicated to changing the power or the organizational structures by an independence movement, and if most is defined as greatest, successful as a desired outcome and original rationale and/or purpose is defined as an fundamental intentional reason, then between the countries of Brazil and Mexico, Brazil had the most successful revolutionary movement in terms of its original rationale and/or purpose because Brazil, unlike the Mexican independence movement, had a greater universal agreement about independence between every social class, Brazil was politically stable after independence and it was economically stable after independence. The war of independence was not a lopsided contest with a foregone conclusion; it was, rather, a struggle in which the nation was divided into loyalties and in which the final outcome was not inevitable; it was a revolutionary civil war (Bethell 70). In Brazil independence was in universal agreement between all social classes, since Brazil was only split into two classes, due to their unique system that allows a slave to earn his freedom and make a living. Because of its system of clientele and patronage, the racial and social tension present in Mexico was less severe in Brazil, which is why Mexico had a dissenting agreement on the matter of independence. The support for independence was in concordance from both sides of these social classes of Brazil. Acting with the support of the Brazilian aristocracy, who were anxious to preserve their considerable landholdings from which they exported sugar, coffee, and cotton, and with the backing of the British, who were eager to monopolize the trade with Brazil, the monarch moved to secure Brazil s autonomy (Meade 74). The slave populations as well as the Brazilian aristocracy were in full support of independence, creating a national bond on the subject. Lower class blacks and mulattoes saw independence as a step towards eliminating the racial discrimination that prohibited their appointment to administrative positions (Viotti da Costa 8). Since the idea of independence was not fully ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Cells are the basic structural of all living things. The human body is poised of trillions of cells. They give structure for the body, take in nutrients from food, convert those nutrients into energy, and carry out specialized functions. Cells also contain the body s hereditary material and can make copies of them. Cells all have different sizes, shapes, and jobs to do. Each cell has a different function. Each mitochondrion has a double layered membrane like the cell membrane, however the inner layer is folder which produces shelves which are known as cristae, this is where the end stages of glucose oxidation are located. The energy that has been released is stored until required by a chemical battery called adenosine triphosphate. Endoplasmic reticulum: Endo means with in and reticulum is a complex word meaning network. There are two variations to endoplasmic reticulum (ER) which are rough and smooth. The ER is a branching network which fills the cell interior; the channels are similar to the cell membrane they create passageways for transporting materials to and from different parts of the cell. Rough ER is studded with tiny black bodies known as ribosomes; they make cell protein and act as a temporary storage area. Smooth ER has no attached ribosomes and is involved in the metabolism of lipids or fats. (Studios, A. (2014). Golgi apparatus: This is a series of flattened, fluid filled sacs stacked like pancakes. The Golgi apparatus is believed to package proteins for delivery to other organelles; it is also responsible for producing lysosomes. Lysosomes: Lysosomes can be found in all parts of the cell cytoplasm, they are also small vesicles produced by the Golgi apparatus. As these are capable of digesting all major chemical components of living cells they are also called suicide bags. They are free to travel throughout the cell; they destroy ...
