Examples Of Class Discrimination In The Hunger Games
CLASS OPPRESSION AND GENDER DISCRIMINATION IN THE HUNGER GAMES The ability
of a movie to portray feelings of pain, empathy and sadness, as well as joy, freedom and celebration
are what makes the movie great. Movies attract audiences not just to the story line, but to the depth of
understanding waiting to be unveiled. Gary Ross The Hunger Games is one such movie. It takes
audiences through a futuristic world of love, war and hatred as seen through the eyes of a head strong
young girl. As if directed mainly to inform the public about the inhuman capabilities of rulers, The
Hunger Games portrays human behaviours against people of the lower class and prejudice towards
women. Its analysis shows The Hunger Games as a text demonstrating the oppression ... Show more

Wilson s Disease Research Paper
Progressive hepatolenticular disease, or more commonly known as Wilson s Disease, is a rare
autosomal recessive genetic disorder of copper metabolism that is characterized by hepatic and
neurological disease. While there is no cure for Wilson s Disease, there are several treatments that can
effectively manage the symptoms. The predominant form of treatment for Wilson s Disease is heavy
metal toxicity medication which utilize copper chelators to prompt the organs in the body to release
copper into the bloodstream and excreted via urine after kidney filtration or zinc to reduce copper
absorption (Ala et. al, 2007). Medications for Wilson s Disease include penicillamine, trientine, and
zinc acetate. Besides medications, other current therapeutic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Some foods, such as chocolate, liver, nuts, mushrooms, and shellfish contain high levels of copper.
Treatment for Wilson s Disease includes to simply avoid these foods and to make such dietary changes
(Ala et. al, 2007). This form of therapy is rarely used alone and accompanied by the use of medication.
For patients unable to adjust to the medication or have presented severe deteriorating hepatic
symptoms of Wilson s Disease before other treatment was ever possible, a surgical orthotopic liver
transplantation is often carried out if they meet the criteria as a suitable candidate. According to
several studies, liver transplantation of this nature presents a phenotypic cure through a partial
correction of the metabolic defect (Bellary et. al, 1995). Therefore, the survival rate for Wilson s
Disease patients who successfully undergo an orthotopic liver transplantation have a long term
survival rate of approximately eighty percent (Bellary et. al,

A Brief Note On California s Water Crisis
The case study that I will be analyzing and responding to is a major environmental issue in many
areas, especially with the state of California. California s water crisis is a major issue that has brought
the attention to many people to try to fix the problem. With the Central Valley being the agricultural
capital of the world, the current drought issue that we are facing is not only historic, but also very
alarming for several reasons. With the current record breaking drought in California, there are three
factors that are said to be the reasons for causing the drought, which includes rising temperatures,
shortage of water from the Colorado River, and depletion in groundwater (Macdonald, 2015). With
rising temperatures over the years, the environmental changes that occur with this are an increase in
evaporation, which is taking water from reservoirs and other sources where irrigation is coming from.
With climate change with higher temperatures, this is taking away water that is needed to water the
many crops that produce vegetation that is distributed all across the United States. The threatening of
water supplies, especially here in the state of California is an issue that is very much real and is
something that should not be ignored. The second concern that comes with the water crisis in
California comes from the Colorado River water shortage. With the Colorado River being the greatest
source of water for all of Southern California, the source of water has declined

King Henry The Second s Leadership Failures
Thesis Statement: King Henry the Second s leadership failures came about because of a few unethical
activities and bad fundamental leadership decisions which prompted an uprising of the people who
eventually overthrew him. I. Introduction A. The play by William Shakespeare Tragedy of King
Richard the Second is an excellent example of how not to be a leader as it relates to King Richard II
(Higginbotham,2014). B. In the beginning, it seems King Henry II is a mighty King with great
leadership as seen in Act 1 Scene 1 as he is sitting upon his throne where he must decide the outcome
of an argument between Thomas Mowbray and Henry Bolingbroke, who is Richard s cousin.
Bolingbroke believes that Mowbray has been loose with money given to him ... Show more content on

B. He lost the support of the people in the land because he never paid attention to their needs and just
casually threw them to the side and squandered away their money and property without regard to the
safety of the country. III. Decisions made during leadership IV. A. Among the primary responsibilities
of the king, he was supposed to be able to solve conflicts, and as a result, he was supposed to be a
judge and rule over some instances. It was this responsibility that King Richard failed and this lead to
a position where most of the public was not satisfied with the decision that he was making while in
power (Guttman, 1968, p. 110). In a series of crisis, different people in the government were able to
show that they were not in support of the way the king was running the kingdom. This fact goes a long
way in explaining the reasons as to why the king had resistance (Guttman, 1968). B. Rulings that the
king made over conflicts were not very good. The majority of people were not able to see the justice in
the judgments, and they felt that they were not judged relatively (Higginbotham2014). King Richard II
s actions had the effect of making the people want to get the justice that they deserved through the
process of requesting for change from the leadership that they had in place. These downfalls opened
the door for Bolingbroke to start a revolt. V. Principal causes of failure in leadership A. All through the
reign of King Richard, there are a few factors

The Wenatchee Metropolitan Statistical (MSA) includes Chelan and Douglas Counties and it depends
heavily on agriculture, retail, recreational activity and hospitality for employment of the bulk of their
residents. The largest age group within the 118,000 population is the 35 64 year olds at 43,370 and
followed by the 0 17 year olds at 28,318 and then the 18 34 year olds at 22,105 and finally 65+ at

ages. Unemployment rates are 12% for Chelan County and 15% for Douglas County. The number of
residents who have an Associate Degree or Vocational Certificate is 10% and the number who have
Bachelors or higher is 8% for both counties combined. The area s population has grown annually by

The Similarities Between Star Wars And Religion
The science fiction film, Star Wars, has a had a significant impact on modern culture today as it relates
to Greek mythology and religion. The popular film created by George Lucas uses many symbols to
demonstrate the similarities between the movie and culture, such as the Tusken Raiders and the Nio.
Fortunately, Star Wars stays open to all religions, allowing for different interpretations of all
characters. The concepts presented in the movie allow for all viewers to further their knowledge of
religion and understand the past in a more logical way.
A similarity between Star Wars and religion are heralds and R2 D2. A herald was someone who
carried a message, sometimes causing an adventure to begin. In the religion of Christianity, Matthew
was a herald because he shared how Jesus, rejected by Israel, sent the disciples to preach the gospel to
the world. In Star Wars, R2 D2 delivered the message that Princess Leia was in trouble and she needed
help from Obi Wan Kenobi. This lead Luke Skywalker on an adventure to figure out who Obi Wan
Kenobi was and why Princess Leia was in trouble. Therefore, both heralds and R2 D2 represent the
messengers needed in order for a quest to unfold.
Another comparison between Star Wars and religion are the Nio and the Tusken Raiders. According to
Japanese tradition, the Nio were a group of guards that protected the Buddhist temples from those
trying to enter. Today, two muscular structures stand in front of some of the Buddhist temples in East

Law of Reflection: Reflection and refraction are common properties of light. When a ray of light
comes into contact with the surface of some material, part of the ray is reflected and part of it is
absorbed. In other words, reflection occurs when an incident ray hits a reflective surface and bounces
off. The law of reflection states that the angle of reflection is equal to the angle of incidence (always in
respect to the normal) and that the incident ray, the normal line and the reflected ray are all located in
the same plane.
Snell s Law of Refraction: When a ray of light reaches a boundary between two transparent mediums,
reflection and refraction occur. Refraction takes place when rays of light bend across the boundary
into the second medium which causes a change in the light s velocity. The denser the medium, the
slower the light.
Total Internal Reflection: Internal reflection refers to light travelling from a higher index medium to a
lower index medium, which causes the ray to bend away from the normal, so the exit angle is greater
than the incident angle. As the angle of incidence increases, so does the angle of refraction. Total
internal reflection takes place when the angle of incidence is greater than the

Analysis of Women Role´s in Louisa May Alcott´s Little Women
Throughout most of the 19th century, feminine behavior was expected from every respectable woman.
However Lousia May Alcott s novel Little Women displays interesting qualities from her characters
that represent aberrance and independence; Alcott challenged conventional beliefs about how women
should behave in the 1800s. Similar to Alcott herself, the main character was determined to become a
writer despite the fact that popular portrayals of working women during the era often pictured them as
socially deviant and was considered unfit to become a motherly figure (Alcott, Louisa May). She
wrote Little Women as a moral paper for children, allowing any young reader to relate to at least one
of the March Girls: Meg, Jo, Beth, or Amy ( In the Garret ). In her innovative novel Little Women,
Alcott expresses her controversial views concerning traditional roles of women through the
temperamental protagonist, Jo, who represents independence and morality for girls in the late 1800s.
Traditional roles of women in America during the 1860s were significantly different than they are
today. Around the Civil War era, most women were expected to be homemakers above anything else.
They spent much of their days cooking, sewing, or cleaning, and if they failed to create a cheerful,
cozy home environment, they were looked down upon because it was considered unacceptable
according to society s standards. ( Literature and Its Times. ) In addition to housework, mothers

What Is The Ebony Clock Symbolize In The Masque Of The Red...
Unnerving, spooky, disturbing, frightful... All common characteristics of a hauntingly terrific tale by
the famous Edgar Allan Poe. His story The Masque of the Red Death brought a grotesque taste to the
horror genre throughout the 19th century with the use of literary devices. To summarize, Poe s story
discussed, in detail, the horrifying inevitability of death, which reveal the value of a device known as
symbolism used by Poe in this literary work. As people are familiar with, Poe s psychological
weaknesses spurred his creativity to which he poured his problems into Gothic Literature, and he
produced these unforeseen symbols as pawns of his life. In this popular short story, subtle objects are
manipulated to reflect Edgar Allan Poe s misfortunes. Symbolism is used throughout his short years of
living as a narrative device for his eerie publications. Within this composition, I will be justifying how
Poe s influence on the use of symbolism constructed a disturbed and almost misleading ... Show more

Canada s Nuclear Arms Race
Right after the end of World War II with the Allied forces rejoicing over a marginal victory over
Germany, a new and different kind of war was brewing over the tensions of the Western and Eastern
blocs, a kind that wouldn t be fought on the battlefield. The Cold War began in the year of 1945 and
lasted all the way until 1991. A cause of the Cold War was the tension between two former allies of
World War II, the United States of America and the Soviet Union (also known as the USSR, which
stood for the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics). The United States had a democratic government
and a capitalist economy, while the Soviet Union had a communist government, each trying to spread

The Korean War was essentially a war that was started when North Korea decided to invade South
Korea, each backed up by their respective allies. When Canada first intervened in the war, Canada
supplied three Royal Canadian Navy destroyers (HMCS Athabaskan, HMCS Cayuga, and HMCS
Sioux) and a Royal Canadian Air Force transport squadron, the No. 426 Thunderbird Squadron. After
being pressured by the American, UN, and domestic pressure, Prime Minister Louis St. Laurent
announced that the Canadian Army Special Force (CASF), later dubbed the 25th Canadian Infantry
Brigade Group, was to be created and used to expand contributions to South Korea. This was very
important because the extra squadrons and machinery helped turn the tides in many battles within the
war. Canada also contributed 26000 as part of a United Nations force which consisted of 16 countries
at the time. These troops were sent for both combat and for peacekeeping after the war. Out of the 516
Canadians that died, 312 died from combat. The peacekeepers that were left behind after the war
stayed for three years as military observers, and the final few Canadian soldiers left Korea in 1957.
These troops were extremely important to the war because they provided backup and aid to the UN
force, and also acted as peacekeepers after the war was over to ensure that the Korean War wouldn t
have a repeat. Lastly, Canadian forces helped

Study on Delhi
The lack of standard concepts in research is perhaps the most significant difficulty in the comparison
of results between studies.[1] In the running injury field, many researchers have noted the problem of
how to define a running related injury.[2 4] Some investigators have suggested the need for a
standardised definition of running related injury.[2, 5 7] However, a consensus has not yet been
reached; thus, researchers have used different definitions in their studies.[3, 8, 9]
Currently, the rates of prevalence and incidence of running injuries vary between 19% and 92%,
depending on the injury definition adopted in the study. This means that the lack of standardisation of
injury definitions may affect study results.[2, 3, 5, 9 15] For instance, Bovens, et al. [16] used a broad
definition of running related injury as any physical complaint developed in relation with running
activities and causing restriction in running distance, speed, duration or frequency ; they found an
injury incidence of 84.9%. On the other hand, Blair, et al. [17] adopted a more stringent definition of
running related injury as an injury that causes the runners to stop running for at least seven days ; they
found a lower injury incidence of 24%. The higher rate of injury found in the first study may be due to
the lack of a specific period of interruption or time off from running in the definition used, in contrast
to the definition used in the second study, which clearly specifies the period of

Social Dominance Theory Of Police Brutality
Violence: Police Brutality
Police brutality is a kind of human rights violation that occurs in every community due to the use of
excessive force. Many people have witnessed or have become victims of police brutality. In their line
of duty, police officers are sometimes faced with threatening circumstances that enable them to make
haste decisions when expecting the worst at the same time hope for the best outcome. A police officer
is given the power to maintain law and order as well as to take away any right of a citizen when a
situation permits (Heydon, 2005). Thus, they have the responsibility to apply the forces in a
recommended way. Therefore, police are trained to use the least amount of force necessary to make an
arrest by using escalations of force. However, sometimes police exceed the minimum amount required
to diffuse an incident or protect them, which leads to misconduct or undue violence when not
warranted.
Police brutality and their behaviors can be explained based on different theories. For example, the
social dominance theory asserts that the white people are the dominant group in the
American society. Thus, they are not succumbed to the police brutality compared to other races
(Chaney and Robertson 480). This social dominance theory is then used by the whites to justify the
police behaviors of the use of excessive force on blacks by mentioning that the blacks indeed deserve
brutality by the police officers since they normally resist arrests, they engage in thug activities as well
as taking prohibited drugs. Based on the theory, it is noted that about 38% of the Whites and 90% of
the blacks view police brutality to be targeting the blacks (Chaney and Robertson 480). Consequently,
the officers who participate in such acts are usually promoted to higher ranks rather than facing
interdiction or charges. These are normally done by the justice system even if there is a strong
evidence which includes camera footage, testimonies from witnesses as well as analysis from the
experts. For example, Eric Garner s case portrayed a scene whereby a police officer was acquitted of
murder charges despite numerous evidences that was odd with the acquittal (Chaney and Robertson
480).

Rear Window Film Techniques
Throughout Alfred Hitchcock s movie, Rear Window, the male gaze of the 1950s is shown to the
audience through the main character, Jefferies. His point of view strains the relationship with his
fiancée, Lisa. His point of view coerces him into thinking less of himself due to the fact she was a
successful woman who went against these views. Her success at first makes him feel inferior, which
went against societies view of what a woman should be. While forced to spend his days recovering in

Expensive restaurants, literary cocktail parties...Can you imagine her tramping around the world with

for someone of her stature. Others respect her success and willingness to go the extra mile, but for
someone who sees the world the old fashioned way Lisa could be a woman ahead of her time.
Jefferies spends his bed ridden days peeping in on his neighbors Ms. Torso and Miss Lonelyheart. The
audience watches as Miss Lonelyheart pieces together a romantic dinner for two and pretended to

represents Jefferies loneliness and lust for a partner, but also his fear to commit to one. Miss

A Reflection On The Life Of Hereworth Church
It is something of a challenge to write a reflection on the life of the chapel through 2017 when I have
only been there for a small part of it. Suffice it to say that the past year has been one of change and
transition for the role of Chaplain at Hereworth School, and for the life of the chapel. With Reverend
Rosemary Carey s departure at the end of Term Two, the life of the chapel was placed in the hands of
the teaching staff for Term Three, with valiant efforts to continue the spiritual dimension of the school.
While no doubt the experience was enjoyed by staff and students alike, the words uttered to me by one
staff member as I left my first chapel service, Thank God you re here , suggest there is an appreciation
for the unique challenges of the role.
These challenges are what I have been discovering as I have gone, very quickly, through our final term
of 2017. While there are definitely similarities to the parish ministry I was engaged in prior to joining
Hereworth, there are also distinct differences the demographic being a major part of that difference.
How do we translate the great power and truth of our Christian faith into language and practices that
are intelligible and formative for young boys? What are the tools and resources of our faith that not

spiritual life of Hereworth School can provide to our boys and our communities that make it

Persuasive Essay On Torture
The practice of torture by United States officials has become one of the most controversial elements of
military history. The debate of its use in gathering intelligence has been particularly prevalent since
the Bush administration. Most recently, a detailed and graphic scene of torture was presented in the
movie Zero Dark Thirty. Proponents for the use of torture state that it is necessary for intelligence
gathering and that ethics should be waved aside. Opponents argue that it is not becoming of American
practices and it is not a reliable source for intelligence gathering. The public debates on this issue have
forced policy makers and military officials to look at whether or not torture, particularly
waterboarding, should be legal. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It stated, With respect to waterboarding, the opinion concluded that while the technique presented a
substantial question under the statute, the authorized use of waterboarding...would not violate the
federal criminal prohibition against torture (U.S. Cong., 2009). This conclusion was primarily drawn
from the proposed idea that waterboarding is not considered to be painful and does not have a lasting
physical or psychological impact (U.S. Cong., 2009). This simulated session of drowning arguably
only causes a momentary state of distress. In fact, it is even practiced on U.S. service members in
training. These considerations certainly establish a compelling argument for the use of waterboarding
as a means to collect important information in a combat environment. There are, however, compelling
arguments against the use of any form of torture. One of the more prominent arguments is that it does
not provide officials with any actual intelligence. A former FBI interrogator, Ali Soufan, presents a
logical argument that waterboarding does not work. He explains that two terrorists, Abu Zubaydah and
Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, were waterboarded 83 and 183 times respectively (Collins, 2014). It is
hard to imagine that anything beyond the first few attempts would have truly provided any form of
actionable intelligence. At this point in their torture, these two terrorists may only provide false
information that may seem important. In their eyes, this would provide the quickest

Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind By Michel Gondry Essay
A hollow feeling inside of your chest consumes your body. The room is filled with your sobs and
hiccuped breaths. A million thoughts are racing through your head; none of these are positive. You tell
yourself that you wish you never met them. You plea at the universe to take away all the memories of
them. You beg to never again feel this type of agony. If possible, would you eradicate the memory of
another human?
In the movie Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Joel Barish (Jim Carrey) and Clementine
Kruczynski (Kate Winslet) do exactly this. Directed by Michel Gondry, this American romantic
comedy wonderfully expresses the idea that a person s memories are fundamental in human growth.
Through cinematography, lighting, and character development, Gondry successfully directs one of the
best twenty first century films.
The cinematography of Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind effectively develops the film s plot and
characters. In the beginning of the movie, Joel is shown awaking in a close up. This shot easily shows
the gloomy expression on his face, asking the audience to question why he is upset. Hand held
cameras provide the story with a natural, more realistic feel, inviting the audience into Joel s
memories. The hand held cameras provide the film with an imperfect, human perspective. This can be
viewed primarily in the honeymoon on ice scene. Slight shakes of the camera are evident. In the scene
when Joel and Clementine see each other on the train to Montauk, far

Kamisar s Argument Against Euthanasia
The right to live one s life on his or her own terms is a basic tenet in the modern world. In American
society, the people are given free reign (within legal and social boundaries, of course) to choose how
to live. They can choose where to go to school, what to learn, what they want to work, when they want
to retire, and so on and so forth. However, when people reach the end of their lives, this right to
autonomy seems to be restricted, especially in those who are terminally ill. This autonomy sees itself
at the center of the debate around the practice of euthanasia, a medical procedure in which a patient
with a terminal or incurable illness is permitted to die in a painless manner ( Euthanasia ). While one
might think that allowing one who ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

abstract realm. By placing the argument here, it loses context for the patient. Someone suffering from
the terrible pain of aggressive skin cancer is converted to an uncharacteristic subject. By applying the
context of each patient s situation, as Feinberg believes we should, doctors and physicians will be able
to better determine whether not euthanasia is an appropriate option for the patient. While there may be
concerns for medical misdiagnoses or last minute cures, these events are so uncommon that they

Catherine Fordham Consomme Essay
A woman fights off an attacker while walking alone at night in Catherine Fordham s Consommé.
(Just quickly, I want to say that this film does deal with sensitive material relating to sexual
harassment and sexual assault, and I don t want this film to have a negative impact on anyone reading
this review.)
Consommé begins with a young woman leaving an apartment building late at night after a fight with
someone. She begins walking briskly through the streets of Brooklyn. The viewer then sees this same
woman slowly waking up in a brightly lit bedroom, which is what reveals that this short film will be
told through a series of flashbacks.
During the woman s flashbacks to her walk the night before, the audience hears lots of loud city noises

Either she doesn t sense his presence or she s trying to ignore it because she s sure she s being
paranoid. However, when the man grabs her, her fear and the audience s fear is realized. He drags her
into an alley and begins attacking her.
In contrast to the dark, foreboding, dangerous night flashbacks, the current shots of the woman waking
up are all well lit, bright with sunshine, and full of light colors. They are quiet and peaceful. However,
the woman s face and body are beaten up pretty badly. She has cuts and bruises on her legs and face,
reminding the viewer of the brutal attack she endured the night before. At this point in the film, the
viewer still doesn t know exactly how the attack will end will the man just beat her up? Will he rape
her? Will she have to go to the hospital?
The final flashback moment I will discuss, so as not to give away the ending, is the moment this
woman realizes she is going to be sexually assaulted. Prior to this, the man had been just beating her
up in the alley. He was kicking her and throwing her around. However, he pins her up against a
vehicle in the alley and the woman hears him begin to undo his belt buckle. When she realizes what is
about to happen, she goes into pure survival and fight mode. That s where I ll leave off with my

George Wells Dystopian
Science Fiction Wells Done Herbert George Wells was a paradox of a man. Despite having a
fascination with utopias, advocated free love, and had an optimistic vision for humanity, Wells created
the modern dystopian template, married twice, and wrote works with dark themes, such as The Island
of Dr. Moreau. These contradictions may have been rooted in his childhood. Herbert George Wells
was born in the town of Bromley, located in Kent, England, to a set of lower middle class parents.
Despite his parents lack of education, Wells attempted to educate himself . . . by reading in the
libraries of his mother s employers. . . according to Novels to Students ( The Island 154). During his

Moreau in a conversation between Prendick and Montgomery, the man who saved Prendick s life, in
chapter two where the two men talk about biology. Evolution and vivisections, on the other hand, play
a major role in the plot of the tale. Moreau uses vivisection to turn animals into human esque beings.
On page 45 of The Island of Dr. Moreau, Prendick claims to hear a scream that sounded as if It was if
all the pain in the world had found a voice . This was Wells playing on the fear of vivisection. In
reality, it was as safe as any other surgery during his time. As the tale continues, Moreau admits that
his forced evolution backfires after a period of time and his Beast Folk become their former feral
selves. In chapter sixteen, Prendick notes: As I [looked in that direction] the Hyena Swine saw [the
Leopard Man] and flung itself upon it with and eager cry, thrusting thirsty teeth into its neck . Even
before the other Beast Folk begin to regress, the Hyena Swine appears to be more feral than the rest,
suggesting that either Moreau purposely made him that way or his regression from his previously
evolved state occurs faster than the rest. This maybe due to the fact the Hyena Swine seems to have
more adrenaline highs than the others, since Moreau seems to have him help with the tracking of
Beast Folk who disobeyed Moreau s laws. Those adrenaline highs

Essay on Jose Saramago s Blindness
When defining the word blindness, it can be interpreted in various ways. Either it can be explained as
sightless, or it can be carefully deciphered as having a more complex in depth analysis. In the novel
Blindness, Jose Saramago depicts and demonstrates how in an instant your right to see can be taken in
an instant. However, in this novel, blindness is metaphorically related to seeing the truth beyond our
own bias opinions.
Saramago s novel clearly illustrates themes that describe the importance of the awareness of others, in
terms of feeling oppressed by fear, lack of trust, dehumanization, and segregation. He describes in full
detail the importance of the government s involvement in the lives of the blind victims, which allows

For instance, Hispanic women are more likely to be dissatisfied if they feel they have been treated
badly by providers and staff and if they do not trust doctors (Guendelman, Wagner 118). If the patient
does not feel a sense of hospitality and see a welcoming smile, it discourages the patient to visit the
physician because they feel they are not getting the right medical attention, and tend to be sicker. In
addition, the sicker individual risk exposure to more insults, and this leads them to pull back from the
health care system (119). In a physician/ patient relationship there needs to be a balance between
actually caring and giving your patients the attention and satisfaction that they deserve. Some
physicians take advantage of their patient s vulnerability of being sick by pushing them aside, and
worrying more about the fastest way to make money. However, the physician then loses another
patient because of greed.
Saramago represents trust in a very similar manor, yet instead he describes a man who is suddenly

The High Priority For School Districts
Response to Changes
Elementary Level Changes occurred in other areas rather than just writing. In elementary schools,
teaching phonics has become extremely important. Phonics is important for students in learning
vocabulary and how to read. Additionally, elementary reading requirements have become more
vigorous. Elementary curriculums are changing drastically to help students prepare for the new
Common Core requirements. Many teachers are going through tons of hours of training and doing a
lot of extra work to learn new reading curriculums. The new elementary trainings are costing school
districts heaps of money and costing teachers voluminous hours of time, making many teachers
disgruntled and frustrated with the change. However, these changes are important for teaching the
Common Core, which is why spending money on improving curriculums and educating teachers has
become a high priority for school districts.
Secondary Level In secondary education, the Common Core is expecting reading, writing, speaking,
and listening to be taught in a variety of subject areas, not just ELA. Students should be reading an
assortment of texts and writing and speaking about the texts in social studies, science, and technical
subjects as well. Having class discussions and using writing to share ideas are simple ways to teach
about nonfiction and informational texts in any subject area. By exposing students to a variety of
nonfiction pieces in different subjects, it is broadening their

pastor of the Centre Church of New Haven and scholar at Andover Theological Seminary. Hopkins

southern contemporaries. This harmony becomes readily apparent when comparing them with

In fact, many maintained, the Apostles affirmed human bondage. A specific example was the Epistle
of Paul to Philemon, in which Paul addressed Philemon on how he should treat his runaway slave,
Onesimus, who had converted to Christianity. An anonymous author, published in De Bow s Review,
which was one of the most important antebellum journals in the South, and Hopkins argued Paul s
message was not one of abolition, but of perpetual servitude. This was not something Paul would have
done, if enslavement was sinful, declared De Bow s Review, Now, had holding slaves been a crime,
Paul s duty to Philemon would have required him to instruct Philemon, that he had no rights over
Onesimus, but that attempt to hold him in servitude, was criminal[.] Moreover, as an Apostle of
Christ, Paul had an obligation to instruct Christians according to His commands, as they pertained to
human bondage, believed Hopkins. Therefore, he questioned, Why does [Paul] not write to his
disciple, Philemon, and rebuke him for the awful sin of holding a fellow man in bondage, and charge
it upon him, as a solemn duty, to emancipate his slaves, at the peril of his soul? Hopkins succinctly
offered an answer to this question, surmising, St. Paul was inspired, and knew the will of the Lord
Jesus Christ, and was only intent on obeying it. Seemingly, writers in both regions read the

The Issue Of Safety And Gun Control
Have you ever thought about the fact that in America, an 18 year old is old enough to buy a gun, but
not a beer? The concern of a gun crime being committed by a young man/woman is high, but what if
they want to go hunting with their father? It doesn t seem so bad now. Some people may think that our
President isn t effective enough, but there are too many people supporting each side for the President
to make a large, yet fair decision. There may be two sides to the story, but what is the right option?
This question of safety and gun control has become part of an on going controversy due to views on
The Constitution, the national gun control laws, as well as the fact that most Americans would like an
updated background checking system. The discussions about citizens rights to bear arms go back to
ancient times. Political theorists from ancient Rome, John Locke of England, and Jean Jacques
Rousseau of France viewed the possession of arms as a sign of personal freedom and a crucial element
of government. The precise meaning and purpose of the Second Amendment has been an issue of
major controversy. Gun control supporters argue that when the Second Amendment was adopted in
1791, each state enabled a militia, composed of ordinary citizens who served as part time soldiers.
Fearing that the federal government would use its army to force its will on the states, the authors of
the Second Amendment intended to protect the state militias right to bear arms. As stated in modern
times

How Does Michael Moore Use Ethos In Bowling For Columbine
While viewing Bowling for Columbine by Michael Moore about gun control he argues that gun
violence in America is massive and it can be helped with stricter gun control laws and changes to laws
and policies. He builds his argument through the uses of pathos, logos, and explanation of the
evidence. Moore used pathos to address his audience directly and appeal to them more emotionally.
Throughout the film, he often shows videos, images, or sounds that evoke sympathy from the viewer.
Moore conclusively demonstrates pathos when he says To American living breathing in fear. Where
gun sales are not at an all time record high. He does this so effectively by using more videos, sad
music, or even talking to the people that this massacre affected. In order to persuade his viewers to his
position through empathy, he shows the danger of what will happen if gun control laws and policies
are not changed not just to make money off the truth but to share empathy his viewers about gun
violence. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
throughout, the film he compares Americans to gun violence to 10 different other countries and tries to

he talks about the 10 different countries including Canada and France all with numbers below 400
people dead a year of gun violence while U.S numbers reach almost 11,000 people yearly. He does
this so effectively by visiting the people in Canada and talking to people who were interviewed about
why do they think gun violence has reached an all time high and they all repeat because the U.S.
history was so violent. In other words, Moore wants to know how can we get these numbers down and

Welcome To Nightvale Poem Analysis
A common theme in both Welcome to Nightvale and War of the Worlds is that original assumptions
can misleading. War of the Worlds utilises sentence structure to bring the concept that experiencing
death and horror will increase the appreciation of life to the forefront of the reader s mind.
Contrastingly the serious elements of death and horror are masked under the aural techniques of
Welcome to Nightvale through music. The audience expectations of Welcome to Nightvale are
inverted through the weather section in Welcome to Nightvale which is non diegetic sound because it
is a song or instrumental item that alludes to the darker elements of the episode. These elements are

Similarly, War of the Worlds uses scientific language, actual real places and media extracts to develop
the reader s connection to the real world and the novel. The two texts then hold greater influence over
the reader s emotions and understandings of the world around them which in turn develop contrasting
beliefs about the nature of horror and death. However Welcome to Nightvale s narrative realism which
influences an audience s reactions to horror and fear is lessened through the use of Absurdism.
Absurdist imagery such as in episode 2 GLOW CLOUD a lion, like the kind you see on the sun baked
plains of Africa or a pee stained enclosure at a local zoo, fell on top of the White Sand Ice Cream Shop
allows the reader to separate themselves from the horror within an episode and instead connect with
the philosophical intentions of Finke and Cranor, which is that sometimes you go through things that
seem huge at the time as a mysterious glowing cloud devouring your entire community. While they re
happening they feel like the only thing that matters, and you can hardly imagine that there s the world
out there that can have anything going on. Both texts envelop narrative structure to draw parallelisms
between reality and fiction which deepen the reader s emotional connection but the

The Different Levels Of Law Enforcement
The Different Levels of Law Enforcement in the United States There are three different level of law
enforcement within the United States who penalizes citizens who violate them. These agencies include
federal, state, and local law enforcement who conducts operation on different levels. Each law
enforcement agency is assigned specific duties within their jurisdiction. In order to maintain peace and
order within the United States law enforcement officers are called to duty to serve day in and day out
to protect public safety. Some believe that law enforcement is unorganized. However, these different

should maintain cooperation with each other in order to maintain balance and order with their

I think the multiple layers of police agencies within the United States benefits and provides better
outcome for the community as a whole. This has allowed some communities to gain the police trust
making it a part of the solution. However, a regional police force which would include different
participants from all communities could be useful during certain cases. For example, a drug dealer is
wanted in one city and is known to operate elsewhere within the state. The local law enforcement has
a lead but cannot execute a warrant based on the limitation of the authority it has. A special organized
crime unit (regional) could be assembled including the different officers from all communities to serve

Egyptians have been polytheistic since the beginning of time and throughout the Old Kingdom,

The Advantages And Disadvantages Of Digital Radiography
Digital radiography (DR) is a revolutionary invention in radiography. With this technology, no cassette
is needed for an x ray examination meaning that there is no need to reload films or to erase imaging
plate in every examination. This is a distinctive feature which conventional radiography and computed
radiography (CR) do not have. DR was first introduced in 1996 (Carroll, 2011). Miniature electronic x
ray detectors are used as the image receptor. The detectors enable the direct capture of the x ray image
without conversion steps (like the conversion of x ray photos into light photons). This technology is
widely used nowadays since it has many advantages and it brings much convenience to radiographers.
One of the main advantages of DR is image post processing in which the quality of the film (in terms
of contrast and brightness, etc.) can be adjusted to reach the desired standard. Therefore, the tolerance
of the deviation of the exposure factors is greater and the need of repeating the examination is greatly
reduced so the patient dose is reduced. This follows the as low as reasonably achievable principle for
radiation protection and this also improve the final image quality simultaneously. Besides, many DR
systems were installed with preset for numerous anatomical studies which can improve the post
processing. Like CR, the images produced are in digital format so this provides convenience for
radiographers to store and retrieve the image easily. DR is also capable to work with PACS ... Show

Bacillus And Clostridium Similarities
The proposed endosporulation pathways in Bacillus and Clostridium have many similarities and
differences which are summarized in Table 1. Their major similarity is their respective locations on
the bacterial cell. The σE and σK factors of both Bacillus and Clostridium are both localized in the
mother cell while the σF and σG factors are localized in the forespore. One difference between the two
genera is the stages wherein the activity of these sigma factors are detected. In Bacillus, the activities
of σEF and σGK are only observed during the early and late stages of endosporulation respectively.
On the other hand, the activities of all four sigma factors have been detected all

However, upon the addition of INF55, a multidrug resistance pump inhibitor, the effect of berberine
against germinated spores has been enhanced. Furthermore, the addition of INF55 was shown to be
more effective in dormant spores as opposed to germinating spores. In conclusion, the spores need to
first be in the germination stage in order for berberine to take effect. On the other hand, if INF55 is
supplemented, even dormant spores can be affected by berberine (Wang, S.). The effects of berberine
should also be tested on other sporulating bacteria such as Clostridium. As mentioned above, Bacillus
and Clostridium undergo slightly varied endosporulation pathways. Thus, it is interesting to know if
this occurrence has an implication to the effectivity of berberine against spores. Also, more studies on
natural products with antibacterial properties, especially those that can affect the highly stress resistant
endospore, should be undertaken. These compounds may target the sigma factors described above in
order to disrupt endosporulation. Since vegetative cells are more susceptible to antibiotics and other
management procedures, disruption of endosporulation by targeting the sigma factors may help

Ambiguity In The Turn Of The Screw
Within The Turn of the Screw, Henry James uses clothing as a means of class division. He pairs the
outward appearance with other aspects such as colors and diction to give a distinctive air to the
characters within the novel. Through the description of clothing or the lack thereof, James is able to
convey specific things about the characters through their degree of conformity to societal rules.
Throughout history, fashion has been the biggest indicator of social and economic status. While the
sumptuary laws of the Elizabethan era that determined the color and style people of different ranks
were allowed to wear ended around 200 years prior to the time the novel was written, society has
always imparted a strict set of rules for its given era on propriety. There s always an emphasis on dress

with his mouth wide open. Let me see! Me first! Said another classmate. Before I knew it, I was

what appeared to be a newborn child. It was a deep, overgrown ditch filled with rocks and debris
along with a blood soaked quilt. It was 1991, in a small village in northern China. It was a rough time
period in China a little over 10 years after the infamous One Child Policy was introduced. I had never
witnessed a dead body before, and couldn t help but stare at the lifeless body. How could this happen?
Who could do something so evil? As children, we never fully understood what exactly happened
regarding the One Child Policy. I heard stories of forced abortions, and government interventions to
female children, or those attempting to have multiple children. But it was crazy to actually witness it
first hand. I was a mistake; my parents always wanted a boy, as did every other person in China.
Everyone knew Chinese parents did not wish to have daughters; they needed a son that could work to

Criticism Of Lolita
Introduction
Valdimir Nobokov is a Russian born writer, who was not a known face among English speaking
literary society, before the publication of Lolita. Lolita was rejected four times before it was finally
published by the Olympia Press in Paris, which has published many controversial works by the writers
like Jean Genet. Some readers are disappointed by the book s lack of overtly sexual content while
some labelled it as immoral.
Nabokov s fiction is not for passive readers who resist being drawn into the author s linguistic games.
Lolita is full of puns, coinages (such as nymphet ), neologisms, foreign, archaic, and unusual words.
Lolita is drunk on language; a typical sentence reads, I spend my doleful days in dumps and dolors. In
his afterword, Nabokov says the novel is about his love affair with the English language.
The fictitious John Ray, Jr., PhD, reveals the peculiar story of Lolita. According to him, he received a

It has an extraordinary effect on the mind of audience or the receiver when conveyed properly. In
Vladimir Nobokov s novel Lolita, the narrator commendably plays with the language in a way that it

Through the character of Humbert and his deceptive way of speaking which focuses on the beautiful

The Harm of Puppy Mills
So you want to adopt a puppy? Well there are two main places that your puppy could have been born.
First, your puppy could have been born at a puppy mill. This is an inhumane, mass breeding location
that can be very detrimental to your new pet. Another location that your puppy could have been born
at is a breeder. This is a more humane location for your puppy to have been born. When adopting a
puppy you should avoid going to a pet store because most pet stores receive their puppies from puppy
mills; inhumane and overpopulated puppy breeding places.
The term puppy mill is used quite frequently when discussing animal cruelty. This term does not have
a specific dictionary definition. A puppy mill is essentially a large scale puppy breeding ... Show more

10). Some of the inhumane features of the puppy mills include that the puppies are housed in small,
wire cages, more fearful through life due to the lack of early human interaction (Peters 5), and when
there is no human contact made with the puppies, it can cause post traumatic behavior in the animals
(Peters 3).
A second horrible feature about puppy mills is that they are overpopulated. They are mass bred in
warehouses. Breeding takes place in warehouses because there is a lot of space for the 70+ breeds that
are in a mill (Dionne 7). According to the ASPCA, the female dogs are bred every time that they are in
heat and when they cannot be bred anymore, they are killed. Pamela Sacks has also researched the
same things that the ASPCA has and she additionally found out that mill dogs are bred consistently
until they can no longer be bred then they are killed (par.4). It is a common thought that puppy mills
do not breed purebred dogs. According to Dionne, mills breed both purebred and mix breed dogs (7).
A mix breed dog would be one that is a combination of two or more breeds. For example, a
goldendoodle is a mix breed dog. It is a combination of a golden retriever and a poodle. A purebred
dog is one that has two parents of the same breed. For example, a Yorkshire Terrier is a purebred. Both
of its parents were Yorkshire Terriers so the

Role Models As A Role Model
A role model is an imperfect person, not a perfect person, because that s who we are as real people
(Jennifer Love Hewitt) Everyone one needs somebody to look up to. During the video of the greatest
love of all Whitney Huston shows a couple of things. She wants tries to prove a point during the
video. The point she is trying to prove is that everyone needs a role model or even someone to look up
to.
When you re a little kid most of the time your first role models are a doctor, firefighter, or a teacher.
Most kids look up to them because they save lives. When kids think of doctors, they think of someone
helping their ailments. They look at firefighters as a positive role model because they save people out
of fires. They see them as role models because they are helping someone while putting their life at
risk. Kids most of the time think that teachers are role models because they see them in the class room
helping them. The teacher s best intentions are for the kids to get better and grow. That s why some
kids look up to teachers. These are some of the common role models for kids. There are so many
different role models. Its honestly up to the person to look up to them. Every man for himself.
Everyone has their own opinion. Your role model is the person in your opinion you look up to. No one
else can tell you who and what you can look up to.
During the video Whitney Hutson is trying to show flash backs of her life. In the beginning, she shows

Migration In Canada
The composition of Canada s population today is very different than it was many decades ago. In
years prior to World War II Canada s ethnic homegenetity was made up of mostly the British and
French, although Canada was previously inhabited by Natives. However, people began a migration
process that saw increased movement of people from one place to another through the world. Canada,
being one of the classical migration countries began to pull immigrants at one period, then a push
occurred after the world war that saw emigration out of Canada. This was followed by another period
of pull factors that saw an expansion in the makeup of Canada s ethnic population. According to
Beaujot (2003) these push and pull factors are based on immigrant social and life course choices. The
following are some of the ways that migration have influenced the ethnic ... Show more content on

According to Beaujot, until the 1970s the ethnic population was essentially composed of European
and French Canadian. Castles et.al (2014) notes as the growth of the fur industry became predominate
in Canada there was an increase in settlers, traders and missionaries emigrating from France and
Britain. Reitz (2014) illustrated that about 80% of the of immigrants prior to 1961 was European the
remaining population was non white. However, the periods following 1961 to 2001 saw a decline in
the ethnic makeup as some of the Europeans and Americans began to immigrate back to their country
of origin. The European Canadian population began to decline, possibly because of the rise in demand
of skilled labor in Europe, as well as the economic success that raised demand for skilled labor for the
U.S. In the mid 1900 s Canada began to experience an increase in out migration mainly to the U.S.
and Europe. In response Canada began to compete for skilled immigrants from all around the

IMPORTANCE OF MONITORING AND EVALUATION IN THE SUSTAINABILITY OF
CONSTITUENCY DEVELOMENT FUND (CDF) PROJECTS IN KENYA
Tecla Biwott1, Omar Egesah2, Javan Ngeywo1
Kisii1 Moi2 University, Kenya
ABSTRACT
The Kenya Government Constituency Development Fund (CDF) projects contribute immensely in
initiating and implementing sustainable development projects in all parts of Kenya, and it is essential
to track processes and impact of such projects. Monitoring and Evaluation helps project managers in
keeping track the implementation of the projects and its prudence in the utilization of the resources. It
provides decision makers with a strategy to plan for sustainability of the projects and guidance for
future endeavors. Sustainability is key to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The concept of sustainable development was introduced by the publication of the Brundland report
having a basis of meeting the needs of the current situation while considering the upcoming
generations in meeting their needs too (World Commission on Environment and Development, 1987).
While the concept is true, achievement of the sustainable development has no clear and definite route
(Becker, Jahn, Stiess, Wehling, 1997; Walker Kubisch, 2008).
Challenges in the society entail those in the production and those in the consumption (Beck, 1986). It
is therefore prudent to use a variety of evaluation that includes systems evaluation and developmental
evaluation (Imam, LaGoy Williams 2007; Patton, 2008). Challenges linked to sustainable
development needs knowledge development and a clear link between science and society (Funtowicz
Ravetz, 1993; Gibbons et al., 1994; Jasanoff, 2004; Nowotny, Scott, Gibbons, 2001). Management of
project sustainability requires continuous improvement of ways and update of tools of governance
(Voss, Bauknecht, Kemp, 2006; Hajer, 2003; Loorbach, 2007; Rotmans, Kemp, Asselt, 2001).
Projects are best placed when they make the most sense to purposed primary uses and when it
provides probable solution to the community challenge (Patton, 2008; Gibbons et al. 1994; Nowotny
et al. 2001; Regeer Bunders, 2009). Communities face complex and varied problems,

Aluminum Ware Mat Reinforced Polyester Composite
ABSTRACT
Aluminum ware mat reinforced Polyester Composite has been developed to find out an alternative
structural material. The physical and mechanical characteristics that are Tensile strength, Flexural
strength, Water absorption, Hardness etc. illustrate the competency of the developed composite. It is
found that Water Absorbency, Tensile strength, Flexural strength, hardness stiffness increase with
increasing of Metal Mat layer in the composite which is estimated maximum for the three Metal Mat
layered composite and minimum for the zero layered composite. Mechanical properties of the
composite increase with the increase of metal mat layer. All the properties suggest the use of the
composite as an unbeaten structural material but water uptake evades its outside use.
INTRODUCTION:
Metal reinforced Polyester composite has been increasingly drawn the attention of the researchers for
the last decades. Light weight along with high strength materials can replace traditional construction
materials used in building engineering, aeronautics, mechanical engineering and in many other
domains. It is related to a possibility of obtaining practically any combination of beneficial properties
of the material, e.g. high vibration damping coefficient, high abrasion resistance, high value of the
Young s modulus, low specific gravity and low coefficient of thermal expansion [1, 2, 3, 4] .
This project is concerned with metal mat reinforced polymer (MMP) composites where high

The Misogynistic Henry Higgins
The Misogynistic Henry Higgins
The key to understanding George Bernard Shaw s Pygmalion lies in understanding the power struggle
between the haves and have nots specifically the active and intentional disenfranchisement of women
at the turn of the 20th century. At the core of Pygmalion there is a focus on the societal inequities of
the day, with Shaw presenting society s treatment of women as property without rights and with little
understanding of their surroundings or place in society. Throughout the 19th century, and into the
early 20th century, when Shaw penned Pygmalion, British laws and society actively restrained
women, both politically and economically.
Unlike the United States, women in England were allowed to vote prior ... Show more content on

Much of English society and government mirrored Higgins beliefs. In 1888, an appeals court judge,
Lord Esther, ruled that neither by Common Law nor by the Constitution of this country from the
beginning of the Common Law until now can a woman be entitled to exercise any public function.
(Aked) This is notable because, just as with the Reform Act of 1832, the ruling was a detriment to
women, as women were already exercising public functions , such as overseers, way wardens, church
wardens and members of school boards. This ruling was the first of several rulings and legislations
that removed rights and governmental access from women.
These actions of the British Parliament led to the creation of several suffrage movement organizations
in England, such as the Co operative Society and The Labor Party, each with almost two and a half
million members, as well as several smaller groups, such as The Women s Liberal Association, The
British Women s Temperance Association, The Women s Textile Union, The Women s Labor League,
The National Union of Women s Suffrage Societies, The Women s Social and Political Union, and The
Men s League for Woman Suffrage, as well as many others. It is well known that Shaw was an avid
proponent of women s freedom and suffrage, and it is quite possible that Shaw wrote Pygmalion with
the idea of promoting women s suffrage as, only three years earlier, he had already penned a

Technology And The Impact Of Technology In Fahrenheit 451
From the mechanical hound to the giant TV s in the wall, technology in Fahrenheit 451 has proven to
have a large impact on their society. However, interactions between Montag, his wife, and his wife s
friends emphasize the awkward interactions. Jennifer Alsip complains about her daughter ruining
dinner time. Jennifer is infuriated that her daughter s phone keeps ringing during dinner time and she
always has the need to check it immediately (Wallace). The one technology that she bought for her
daughter is creating havoc in her house. Although technology has become more relevant in today s
society with computer science innovations and social media, the effects include people becoming
socially inept. Innovations in computer systems and social media have increased the population of the
audience. For example, [the iPhone is] about 25 percent faster than the iPhone 7 and 80 percent faster
than the iPhone 6S (Manjoo). The improvements in the iPhone 8 compared to the others is significant
and handheld devices are becoming more accessible. From phones in the wall s to only having home
phones, the iPhone 8 is a huge improvement in convenience. Adding on, the development in games on
the phone and the computer provides entertainment for the general public. One of the more popular
games is League of Legends, has 67 million active monthly players around the world and in August
alone this crowd spent 122 million dollars (Segal). The popularity of the games illustrates the
effectiveness of gaming on people. Instead of children going out to parks and adults going out to
socialize, they would rather much play video games at home. This describes the various types of
technological innovations affecting daily lives. Even though innovations in computer science and
social media is entertaining for the majority of the population, it has led to people becoming socially
awkward. Melissa Ortega, a psychologist for children at the New York s Child Mind Institute, talks
about how [kids] don t know how to handle conflict face to face because so many things happen
through some sort of technology (Bindley). Learning how to socialize with workers and people on a
daily basis is a skill that one needs to learn. However, as

  • 2. Examples Of Class Discrimination In The Hunger Games CLASS OPPRESSION AND GENDER DISCRIMINATION IN THE HUNGER GAMES The ability of a movie to portray feelings of pain, empathy and sadness, as well as joy, freedom and celebration are what makes the movie great. Movies attract audiences not just to the story line, but to the depth of understanding waiting to be unveiled. Gary Ross The Hunger Games is one such movie. It takes audiences through a futuristic world of love, war and hatred as seen through the eyes of a head strong young girl. As if directed mainly to inform the public about the inhuman capabilities of rulers, The Hunger Games portrays human behaviours against people of the lower class and prejudice towards women. • 3. Wilson s Disease Research Paper Progressive hepatolenticular disease, or more commonly known as Wilson s Disease, is a rare autosomal recessive genetic disorder of copper metabolism that is characterized by hepatic and neurological disease. While there is no cure for Wilson s Disease, there are several treatments that can effectively manage the symptoms. The predominant form of treatment for Wilson s Disease is heavy metal toxicity medication which utilize copper chelators to prompt the organs in the body to release copper into the bloodstream and excreted via urine after kidney filtration or zinc to reduce copper absorption (Ala et. al, 2007). Medications for Wilson s Disease include penicillamine, trientine, and zinc acetate. Besides medications, other current therapeutic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Some foods, such as chocolate, liver, nuts, mushrooms, and shellfish contain high levels of copper. Treatment for Wilson s Disease includes to simply avoid these foods and to make such dietary changes (Ala et. al, 2007). This form of therapy is rarely used alone and accompanied by the use of medication. For patients unable to adjust to the medication or have presented severe deteriorating hepatic symptoms of Wilson s Disease before other treatment was ever possible, a surgical orthotopic liver transplantation is often carried out if they meet the criteria as a suitable candidate. According to several studies, liver transplantation of this nature presents a phenotypic cure through a partial correction of the metabolic defect (Bellary et. al, 1995). Therefore, the survival rate for Wilson s Disease patients who successfully undergo an orthotopic liver transplantation have a long term survival rate of approximately eighty percent (Bellary et. al, ... • 5. A Brief Note On California s Water Crisis The case study that I will be analyzing and responding to is a major environmental issue in many areas, especially with the state of California. California s water crisis is a major issue that has brought the attention to many people to try to fix the problem. With the Central Valley being the agricultural capital of the world, the current drought issue that we are facing is not only historic, but also very alarming for several reasons. With the current record breaking drought in California, there are three factors that are said to be the reasons for causing the drought, which includes rising temperatures, shortage of water from the Colorado River, and depletion in groundwater (Macdonald, 2015). With rising temperatures over the years, the environmental changes that occur with this are an increase in evaporation, which is taking water from reservoirs and other sources where irrigation is coming from. With climate change with higher temperatures, this is taking away water that is needed to water the many crops that produce vegetation that is distributed all across the United States. The threatening of water supplies, especially here in the state of California is an issue that is very much real and is something that should not be ignored. The second concern that comes with the water crisis in California comes from the Colorado River water shortage. With the Colorado River being the greatest source of water for all of Southern California, the source of water has declined ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. King Henry The Second s Leadership Failures Thesis Statement: King Henry the Second s leadership failures came about because of a few unethical activities and bad fundamental leadership decisions which prompted an uprising of the people who eventually overthrew him. I. Introduction A. The play by William Shakespeare Tragedy of King Richard the Second is an excellent example of how not to be a leader as it relates to King Richard II (Higginbotham,2014). B. In the beginning, it seems King Henry II is a mighty King with great leadership as seen in Act 1 Scene 1 as he is sitting upon his throne where he must decide the outcome of an argument between Thomas Mowbray and Henry Bolingbroke, who is Richard s cousin. Bolingbroke believes that Mowbray has been loose with money given to him ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... B. He lost the support of the people in the land because he never paid attention to their needs and just casually threw them to the side and squandered away their money and property without regard to the safety of the country. III. Decisions made during leadership IV. A. Among the primary responsibilities of the king, he was supposed to be able to solve conflicts, and as a result, he was supposed to be a judge and rule over some instances. It was this responsibility that King Richard failed and this lead to a position where most of the public was not satisfied with the decision that he was making while in power (Guttman, 1968, p. 110). In a series of crisis, different people in the government were able to show that they were not in support of the way the king was running the kingdom. This fact goes a long way in explaining the reasons as to why the king had resistance (Guttman, 1968). B. Rulings that the king made over conflicts were not very good. The majority of people were not able to see the justice in the judgments, and they felt that they were not judged relatively (Higginbotham2014). King Richard II s actions had the effect of making the people want to get the justice that they deserved through the process of requesting for change from the leadership that they had in place. These downfalls opened the door for Bolingbroke to start a revolt. V. Principal causes of failure in leadership A. All through the reign of King Richard, there are a few factors ... • 8. The Similarities Between Star Wars And Religion The science fiction film, Star Wars, has a had a significant impact on modern culture today as it relates to Greek mythology and religion. The popular film created by George Lucas uses many symbols to demonstrate the similarities between the movie and culture, such as the Tusken Raiders and the Nio. Fortunately, Star Wars stays open to all religions, allowing for different interpretations of all characters. The concepts presented in the movie allow for all viewers to further their knowledge of religion and understand the past in a more logical way. A similarity between Star Wars and religion are heralds and R2 D2. A herald was someone who carried a message, sometimes causing an adventure to begin. In the religion of Christianity, Matthew was a herald because he shared how Jesus, rejected by Israel, sent the disciples to preach the gospel to the world. In Star Wars, R2 D2 delivered the message that Princess Leia was in trouble and she needed help from Obi Wan Kenobi. This lead Luke Skywalker on an adventure to figure out who Obi Wan Kenobi was and why Princess Leia was in trouble. Therefore, both heralds and R2 D2 represent the messengers needed in order for a quest to unfold. Another comparison between Star Wars and religion are the Nio and the Tusken Raiders. According to Japanese tradition, the Nio were a group of guards that protected the Buddhist temples from those trying to enter. • 9. Critical Angle And Total Internal Reflection Critical Angle Total Internal Reflection Kate Graham Partner: Samantha Dekart Monday, November 9, 2015 SNC2D Ms. Vink Purpose: See attached sheet, labelled SNC2D Lab Sheet . Related Theory: Law of Reflection: Reflection and refraction are common properties of light. When a ray of light comes into contact with the surface of some material, part of the ray is reflected and part of it is absorbed. In other words, reflection occurs when an incident ray hits a reflective surface and bounces off. The law of reflection states that the angle of reflection is equal to the angle of incidence (always in respect to the normal) and that the incident ray, the normal line and the reflected ray are all located in the same plane. Snell s Law of Refraction: When a ray of light reaches a boundary between two transparent mediums, reflection and refraction occur. Refraction takes place when rays of light bend across the boundary into the second medium which causes a change in the light s velocity. The denser the medium, the slower the light. Total Internal Reflection: Internal reflection refers to light travelling from a higher index medium to a lower index medium, which causes the ray to bend away from the normal, so the exit angle is greater than the incident angle. As the angle of incidence increases, so does the angle of refraction. Total internal reflection takes place when the angle of incidence is greater than the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Analysis of Women Role´s in Louisa May Alcott´s Little Women Throughout most of the 19th century, feminine behavior was expected from every respectable woman. However Lousia May Alcott s novel Little Women displays interesting qualities from her characters that represent aberrance and independence; Alcott challenged conventional beliefs about how women should behave in the 1800s. Similar to Alcott herself, the main character was determined to become a writer despite the fact that popular portrayals of working women during the era often pictured them as socially deviant and was considered unfit to become a motherly figure (Alcott, Louisa May). She wrote Little Women as a moral paper for children, allowing any young reader to relate to at least one of the March Girls: Meg, Jo, Beth, or Amy ( In the Garret ). In her innovative novel Little Women, Alcott expresses her controversial views concerning traditional roles of women through the temperamental protagonist, Jo, who represents independence and morality for girls in the late 1800s. Traditional roles of women in America during the 1860s were significantly different than they are today. Around the Civil War era, most women were expected to be homemakers above anything else. They spent much of their days cooking, sewing, or cleaning, and if they failed to create a cheerful, cozy home environment, they were looked down upon because it was considered unacceptable according to society s standards. • 11. What Is The Ebony Clock Symbolize In The Masque Of The Red... Unnerving, spooky, disturbing, frightful... All common characteristics of a hauntingly terrific tale by the famous Edgar Allan Poe. His story The Masque of the Red Death brought a grotesque taste to the horror genre throughout the 19th century with the use of literary devices. To summarize, Poe s story discussed, in detail, the horrifying inevitability of death, which reveal the value of a device known as symbolism used by Poe in this literary work. As people are familiar with, Poe s psychological weaknesses spurred his creativity to which he poured his problems into Gothic Literature, and he produced these unforeseen symbols as pawns of his life. In this popular short story, subtle objects are manipulated to reflect Edgar Allan Poe s misfortunes. Symbolism is used throughout his short years of living as a narrative device for his eerie publications. • 12. Canada s Nuclear Arms Race Right after the end of World War II with the Allied forces rejoicing over a marginal victory over Germany, a new and different kind of war was brewing over the tensions of the Western and Eastern blocs, a kind that wouldn t be fought on the battlefield. The Cold War began in the year of 1945 and lasted all the way until 1991. A cause of the Cold War was the tension between two former allies of World War II, the United States of America and the Soviet Union (also known as the USSR, which stood for the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics). The United States had a democratic government and a capitalist economy, while the Soviet Union had a communist government, each trying to spread their political views and gain world power. The Korean War was essentially a war that was started when North Korea decided to invade South Korea, each backed up by their respective allies. When Canada first intervened in the war, Canada supplied three Royal Canadian Navy destroyers (HMCS Athabaskan, HMCS Cayuga, and HMCS Sioux) and a Royal Canadian Air Force transport squadron, the No. 426 Thunderbird Squadron. After being pressured by the American, UN, and domestic pressure, Prime Minister Louis St. Laurent announced that the Canadian Army Special Force (CASF), later dubbed the 25th Canadian Infantry Brigade Group, was to be created and used to expand contributions to South Korea. This was very important because the extra squadrons and machinery helped turn the tides in many battles within the war. Canada also contributed 26000 as part of a United Nations force which consisted of 16 countries at the time. These troops were sent for both combat and for peacekeeping after the war. Out of the 516 Canadians that died, 312 died from combat. The peacekeepers that were left behind after the war stayed for three years as military observers, and the final few Canadian soldiers left Korea in 1957. These troops were extremely important to the war because they provided backup and aid to the UN force, and also acted as peacekeepers after the war was over to ensure that the Korean War wouldn t have a repeat. • 13. Study on Delhi The lack of standard concepts in research is perhaps the most significant difficulty in the comparison of results between studies.[1] In the running injury field, many researchers have noted the problem of how to define a running related injury.[2 4] Some investigators have suggested the need for a standardised definition of running related injury.[2, 5 7] However, a consensus has not yet been reached; thus, researchers have used different definitions in their studies.[3, 8, 9] Currently, the rates of prevalence and incidence of running injuries vary between 19% and 92%, depending on the injury definition adopted in the study. This means that the lack of standardisation of injury definitions may affect study results.[2, 3, 5, 9 15] For instance, Bovens, et al. [16] used a broad definition of running related injury as any physical complaint developed in relation with running activities and causing restriction in running distance, speed, duration or frequency ; they found an injury incidence of 84.9%. On the other hand, Blair, et al. [17] adopted a more stringent definition of running related injury as an injury that causes the runners to stop running for at least seven days ; they found a lower injury incidence of 24%. The higher rate of injury found in the first study may be due to the lack of a specific period of interruption or time off from running in the definition used, in contrast to the definition used in the second study, which clearly specifies the period of ... In their line of duty, police officers are sometimes faced with threatening circumstances that enable them to make haste decisions when expecting the worst at the same time hope for the best outcome. A police officer is given the power to maintain law and order as well as to take away any right of a citizen when a situation permits (Heydon, 2005). Thus, they have the responsibility to apply the forces in a recommended way. Therefore, police are trained to use the least amount of force necessary to make an arrest by using escalations of force. However, sometimes police exceed the minimum amount required to diffuse an incident or protect them, which leads to misconduct or undue violence when not warranted. Police brutality and their behaviors can be explained based on different theories. For example, the social dominance theory asserts that the white people are the dominant group in the American society. Thus, they are not succumbed to the police brutality compared to other races (Chaney and Robertson 480). This social dominance theory is then used by the whites to justify the police behaviors of the use of excessive force on blacks by mentioning that the blacks indeed deserve brutality by the police officers since they normally resist arrests, they engage in thug activities as well as taking prohibited drugs. Based on the theory, it is noted that about 38% of the Whites and 90% of the blacks view police brutality to be targeting the blacks (Chaney and Robertson 480). Consequently, the officers who participate in such acts are usually promoted to higher ranks rather than facing interdiction or charges. These are normally done by the justice system even if there is a strong evidence which includes camera footage, testimonies from witnesses as well as analysis from the experts. For example, Eric Garner s case portrayed a scene whereby a police officer was acquitted of murder charges despite numerous evidences that was odd with the acquittal (Chaney and Robertson 480). Others respect her success and willingness to go the extra mile, but for someone who sees the world the old fashioned way Lisa could be a woman ahead of her time. Jefferies spends his bed ridden days peeping in on his neighbors Ms. Torso and Miss Lonelyheart. The audience watches as Miss Lonelyheart pieces together a romantic dinner for two and pretended to greet a lover at the door; only for her to later drink herself to sleep at the kitchen table. This character represents Jefferies loneliness and lust for a partner, but also his fear to commit to one. Miss Lonelyheart is only able to find love in the film after Jefferies comes to the realization that he is good enough for Lisa after all. • 16. A Reflection On The Life Of Hereworth Church It is something of a challenge to write a reflection on the life of the chapel through 2017 when I have only been there for a small part of it. Suffice it to say that the past year has been one of change and transition for the role of Chaplain at Hereworth School, and for the life of the chapel. With Reverend Rosemary Carey s departure at the end of Term Two, the life of the chapel was placed in the hands of the teaching staff for Term Three, with valiant efforts to continue the spiritual dimension of the school. While no doubt the experience was enjoyed by staff and students alike, the words uttered to me by one staff member as I left my first chapel service, Thank God you re here , suggest there is an appreciation for the unique challenges of the role. These challenges are what I have been discovering as I have gone, very quickly, through our final term of 2017. While there are definitely similarities to the parish ministry I was engaged in prior to joining Hereworth, there are also distinct differences the demographic being a major part of that difference. How do we translate the great power and truth of our Christian faith into language and practices that are intelligible and formative for young boys? What are the tools and resources of our faith that not only form our heritage but the character of those who come under their tutelage? The debate of its use in gathering intelligence has been particularly prevalent since the Bush administration. Most recently, a detailed and graphic scene of torture was presented in the movie Zero Dark Thirty. Proponents for the use of torture state that it is necessary for intelligence gathering and that ethics should be waved aside. It stated, With respect to waterboarding, the opinion concluded that while the technique presented a substantial question under the statute, the authorized use of waterboarding...would not violate the federal criminal prohibition against torture (U.S. Cong., 2009). This conclusion was primarily drawn from the proposed idea that waterboarding is not considered to be painful and does not have a lasting physical or psychological impact (U.S. Cong., 2009). This simulated session of drowning arguably only causes a momentary state of distress. In fact, it is even practiced on U.S. service members in training. These considerations certainly establish a compelling argument for the use of waterboarding as a means to collect important information in a combat environment. There are, however, compelling arguments against the use of any form of torture. One of the more prominent arguments is that it does not provide officials with any actual intelligence. A former FBI interrogator, Ali Soufan, presents a logical argument that waterboarding does not work. He explains that two terrorists, Abu Zubaydah and Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, were waterboarded 83 and 183 times respectively (Collins, 2014). • 18. Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind By Michel Gondry Essay A hollow feeling inside of your chest consumes your body. The room is filled with your sobs and hiccuped breaths. A million thoughts are racing through your head; none of these are positive. You tell yourself that you wish you never met them. You plea at the universe to take away all the memories of them. You beg to never again feel this type of agony. If possible, would you eradicate the memory of another human? In the movie Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Joel Barish (Jim Carrey) and Clementine Kruczynski (Kate Winslet) do exactly this. Directed by Michel Gondry, this American romantic comedy wonderfully expresses the idea that a person s memories are fundamental in human growth. Through cinematography, lighting, and character development, Gondry successfully directs one of the best twenty first century films. The cinematography of Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind effectively develops the film s plot and characters. In the beginning of the movie, Joel is shown awaking in a close up. This shot easily shows the gloomy expression on his face, asking the audience to question why he is upset. Hand held cameras provide the story with a natural, more realistic feel, inviting the audience into Joel s memories. The hand held cameras provide the film with an imperfect, human perspective. In American society, the people are given free reign (within legal and social boundaries, of course) to choose how to live. They can choose where to go to school, what to learn, what they want to work, when they want to retire, and so on and so forth. However, when people reach the end of their lives, this right to autonomy seems to be restricted, especially in those who are terminally ill. • 32. The Advantages And Disadvantages Of Digital Radiography Digital radiography (DR) is a revolutionary invention in radiography. With this technology, no cassette is needed for an x ray examination meaning that there is no need to reload films or to erase imaging plate in every examination. This is a distinctive feature which conventional radiography and computed radiography (CR) do not have. DR was first introduced in 1996 (Carroll, 2011). Miniature electronic x ray detectors are used as the image receptor. The detectors enable the direct capture of the x ray image without conversion steps (like the conversion of x ray photos into light photons). This technology is widely used nowadays since it has many advantages and it brings much convenience to radiographers. One of the main advantages of DR is image post processing in which the quality of the film (in terms of contrast and brightness, etc.) can be adjusted to reach the desired standard. Therefore, the tolerance of the deviation of the exposure factors is greater and the need of repeating the examination is greatly reduced so the patient dose is reduced. This follows the as low as reasonably achievable principle for radiation protection and this also improve the final image quality simultaneously. Besides, many DR systems were installed with preset for numerous anatomical studies which can improve the post processing. Like CR, the images produced are in digital format so this provides convenience for radiographers to store and retrieve the image easily. DR is also capable to work with PACS ... Furthermore, the addition of INF55 was shown to be more effective in dormant spores as opposed to germinating spores. In conclusion, the spores need to first be in the germination stage in order for berberine to take effect. On the other hand, if INF55 is supplemented, even dormant spores can be affected by berberine (Wang, S.). The effects of berberine should also be tested on other sporulating bacteria such as Clostridium. As mentioned above, Bacillus and Clostridium undergo slightly varied endosporulation pathways. Thus, it is interesting to know if this occurrence has an implication to the effectivity of berberine against spores. Reflection Assignment Working as an intern caring for patients with cancer on the Adjunctive Cancer Care (ACC) shift at the Robert Schad Naturopathic Clinic (RSNC) for this past year has been a great learning experience. Although it had its own unique set of challenges, it has been a real privilege to be a trusted part of the patients care experience. With the privilege of being a part of patient s health care teams, there were many challenging aspects working with terminally ill patients. I initially found it hard to fully commit to the therapeutic relationship; I wanted to maintain some form of internal boundary to protect myself emotionally. I found as time when on, I was more willing to open up and exposure my emotional vulnerability in order to fully meet their needs and be there for the patient. It is a delicate balance trying to be there fully for your patient, care for them to the fullest extent, as well as attempting to protect my own emotions and feelings. There is a give and take to this balance, and it evolved as the relationship with the patient evolved and my ease in the role of an intern matured. I have patients who are as close as a friend now, after a year of working together. I am sad to be ending our therapeutic relationship due to the end of my internship, I am also sad that I won t be having contact these patients anymore, or being kept up to date with their health. • 37. Ambiguity In The Turn Of The Screw Within The Turn of the Screw, Henry James uses clothing as a means of class division. He pairs the outward appearance with other aspects such as colors and diction to give a distinctive air to the characters within the novel. Through the description of clothing or the lack thereof, James is able to convey specific things about the characters through their degree of conformity to societal rules. Throughout history, fashion has been the biggest indicator of social and economic status. While the sumptuary laws of the Elizabethan era that determined the color and style people of different ranks were allowed to wear ended around 200 years prior to the time the novel was written, society has always imparted a strict set of rules for its given era on propriety. It was a deep, overgrown ditch filled with rocks and debris along with a blood soaked quilt. It was 1991, in a small village in northern China. It was a rough time period in China a little over 10 years after the infamous One Child Policy was introduced. I had never witnessed a dead body before, and couldn t help but stare at the lifeless body. How could this happen? Who could do something so evil? As children, we never fully understood what exactly happened regarding the One Child Policy. I heard stories of forced abortions, and government interventions to female children, or those attempting to have multiple children. But it was crazy to actually witness it first hand. I was a mistake; my parents always wanted a boy, as did every other person in China. Everyone knew Chinese parents did not wish to have daughters; they needed a son that could work to support not only himself but also his parents, as a lot of the economy was agriculture/labor based. Lolita was rejected four times before it was finally published by the Olympia Press in Paris, which has published many controversial works by the writers like Jean Genet. Some readers are disappointed by the book s lack of overtly sexual content while some labelled it as immoral. In his afterword, Nabokov says the novel is about his love affair with the English language. The fictitious John Ray, Jr., PhD, reveals the peculiar story of Lolita. According to him, he received a holograph named Lolita , or the Confession of a White Widowed Man, from the writer s lawyer. Some of the inhumane features of the puppy mills include that the puppies are housed in small, wire cages, more fearful through life due to the lack of early human interaction (Peters 5), and when there is no human contact made with the puppies, it can cause post traumatic behavior in the animals (Peters 3). A second horrible feature about puppy mills is that they are overpopulated. They are mass bred in warehouses. Breeding takes place in warehouses because there is a lot of space for the 70+ breeds that are in a mill (Dionne 7). According to the ASPCA, the female dogs are bred every time that they are in heat and when they cannot be bred anymore, they are killed. Pamela Sacks has also researched the same things that the ASPCA has and she additionally found out that mill dogs are bred consistently until they can no longer be bred then they are killed (par.4). It is a common thought that puppy mills do not breed purebred dogs. According to Dionne, mills breed both purebred and mix breed dogs (7). A mix breed dog would be one that is a combination of two or more breeds. For example, a goldendoodle is a mix breed dog. It is a combination of a golden retriever and a poodle. The concept of sustainable development was introduced by the publication of the Brundland report having a basis of meeting the needs of the current situation while considering the upcoming generations in meeting their needs too (World Commission on Environment and Development, 1987). While the concept is true, achievement of the sustainable development has no clear and definite route (Becker, Jahn, Stiess, Wehling, 1997; Walker Kubisch, 2008). Challenges in the society entail those in the production and those in the consumption (Beck, 1986). It is therefore prudent to use a variety of evaluation that includes systems evaluation and developmental evaluation (Imam, LaGoy Williams 2007; Patton, 2008). This ruling was the first of several rulings and legislations that removed rights and governmental access from women. These actions of the British Parliament led to the creation of several suffrage movement organizations in England, such as the Co operative Society and The Labor Party, each with almost two and a half million members, as well as several smaller groups, such as The Women s Liberal Association, The British Women s Temperance Association, The Women s Textile Union, The Women s Labor League, The National Union of Women s Suffrage Societies, The Women s Social and Political Union, and The Men s League for Woman Suffrage, as well as many others.
