Analysis Of Blood In The Hills
Based off glancing at the title alone, the reader is immediately aware of what to expect upon opening
the publication. Blood in the Hills: The Story of Khe Sahn, the Most Savage Fight of the Vietnam War,
written by Robert Maras, with the assistance of Charles W. Sasser, tells the story of Maras, a Vietnam
veteran, and his experiences during the war. From his combat landing on Red Beach, to his departure
from the Demilitarized Zone, also known as the DMZ, Robert Maras describes in great detail the joys
and sorrows of his time in Vietnam. The book also exhibits the development of the average Marine,
and the mental and physical toll the fighting at Khe Sanh takes on each individual. Throughout the
memoir, the warrior creed of Semper Fidelis is repeated an abundance of times, meaning always
faithful, and symbolizing the US Marine Corps determination to fight for their beloved country (Maras
3). This saying was especially influential during the times Bob Maras was subjected to viewing his
comrades perish before him, as he could only hope he would survive the countless battles in the jungle
terrain of Khe Sanh. Blood in the Hills is a powerful read for those engrossed with not only the
corporeal aspect of war, but fascinated in learning about warfare from a psychological perspective.
Critically speaking, the authors are somewhat qualified to discuss the topic at hand, but Maras, the
protagonist, is by no means a professional historian on the Vietnam War. In fact, the same

Conch Symbolism In Lord Of The Flies
Symbols: a mark or character used as a conventional representation of an object, function, or process.
Throughout this story the use of symbols were greatly used as a representation of a civilization
journey. The process was made up of 3 important symbols in the novel to which helped the boys find
an escape from the island. The boys found an escape route even if the symbols were made as a
negative impact on how they lived or as a positive impact. The novel, The Lord of the Flies, written by
William Golding utilizes the symbols of: the conch as an illustration of leadership, the signal fire
which illustrates a man s struggle for survival, and the beast is a representation of man s fear of the
unknown.
The conch is used as a symbol in the story as order to act as leader while holding the conch. As the
boys held the conch to speak they were given the chance to let out what they have to say without
everyone talking at the same time. That s what this shell s called. I ll give the conch to the next person
to speak. eaking. And he won t be interrupted. Except by me. He can hold it when he s speaking. And
he won t be interrupted . Expect by me. We can use this to call others. Have a meeting. They ll come
when they hear us As a person receives the conch the boy s fight over to who holds it next to speak
which causes unbalanced emotions which causes a separation into two groups. The importance of the
conch served as how they reacted with each other in society manner wise, since one person could only
be the one speaking the others would have to show manners so that no conflict would start over who s
talking and to wait a turn.
The signal fire was used as an resource for man s survival as a way to be found by using it. The source
of the fire comes to as a personal idea on how Ralph thought of the idea to create a fire to be later be
found by aircraft. There s another thing. We can help them to find us. If a ship comes near the island
they may not notice us. So we must make smoke on top of the mountain. We must make a fire. There s

Texas Western Miners Case Study
Coach Dan Haskins was the basketball coach of Texas Western University. When he got his position
he wanted to recruit basketball players that could help Texas Western University s basketball team. As
he journeyed to find basketball players, he recruited 7 black players. During that time period it was not
common for black players to play in universities basketball teams, especially in Texas. The Texas
Western Miners consisted of 7 black and 3 white athletes. Coach Haskins decision to recruit black
basketball players affected the team to be harassed and threatened, the funding boosters threatened to
pull funding from the team, and won the championships.
As the basketball season starts for the Texas Western Miners, the team has had many victories. The
more victories they get, they become nearer to the championship. However, as the team travels to play
their games in different towns and states, they meet a numerous amount of haters. Many whites
disagreed that blacks should not be playing on the team. The team gets harassed at games. People
throw things at them as they are entering the basketball court. Some yell harshful things to them. At a
hotel, in all the black players ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

that the Miners are winning but they are unsatisfied that their are black players. The funding booster

funding boosters were very generous with the funding. By saying this in the interview, if the funding
boosters did pull away the funds for the team, they would not make a good impression towards the
public. Coach Haskins was very smart to say that. If he did not say it the boosters would have taken
away the fundings leaving the team with no money thus the team would not be able to compete in the

INTRODUCTION The holy prophet (peace be upon him) had expressed his concern for the basic
rights and respectable place for women in society 1400 years ago. In this regard, however certain
restrictions particularly observance of purdha by women deemed extremely necessary, which was

Human Condition
One of the reasons the movement is so difficult to define is because many of these thinkers have
differing views on what the human condition is, which is at the center of the study of existentialism.
Something that is found to be common between many existentialist, though, is their consistent and
utter rejection to any and all systems, theories and organizational constructs that attempt to answer the
question of the human condition, and give value to our existence in a comprehensive approach
whether they are based in religion, science or philosophy.
One of the most historically outstanding systems which claims to explain some core existential
questions about the human condition is religion. Religion was something that filled the void of the
existential question for as long as humanity has existed, and alleviate the concern of creating meaning
and purpose. Existentialist thinkers have adopted the belief that following organized ... Show more

Oftentimes, constructs such as religion offer a partial experience, often such systems will see the
meaning and purpose to life as somehow emanating from an alternative, objective realm, such as
heaven. However; in doing so they lose sight of the perspective of what life is like for an individual
living on this earth and experiencing all the fears, anxieties, hopes and disappointments that are a part
of the human condition. For example, many of the mass organized religions often provide answers to
many of the vexing questions of life from the perspective of an all knowing and all powerful God,
whose word is thought to be communicated to us through prophets. However, existentialists stress that
what we most need is not a divine perspective of the human condition, but a human perspective, for as
Nietzsche put it we are ultimately, much to his chagrin, human, all too

Freshman Year Transcripts
Transcripts Throughout my four years of high school, my GPAs have been pretty good. Spring
semester of freshman year was by far the best because I managed to end the year with a 4.0. However,
my classes started to get a little more challenging to me and after that semester, my GPAs started to go
down. I would have to say that my worst year was junior year. I ended the year off with four B s and
only three A s. I would definitely have to say that I let my classes get the best of me that year. Now
that it s my senior year, I now know to never let stress interfere with my grades because it is not worth

Analysis Of Madeline Edad s Sunrise Model
Madeline Leininger s sunrise model was first developed in 1976, she calls it a trans cultural health
model. It includes major social and cultural factors influencing individual perspective of health care
systems. The model is designed to provides a guidance for the study and analysis of the major
variables found within different cultures in order to obtain a trans cultural heath care perspective of
health illness systems ( Leininger,1976). The 1976 model consisted of two major categories: levels of
analysis and major domains of study and analysis. Four different levels of analysis and corresponding
domains of study were included. Level one analysis of social structure features and the domain
associated with this level were political, economic, social, cultural, technological, educational,
demographic, and environment factors. Level two was analysis of cultural values and health care. The
domains associated with level two include dominant cultural values and health care values. Level
three analysis of health care system and its typologies. Major domains of study associated with this
level included folk and professional health systems. Level four analysis focuses on role and function
of health professionals. Domains of study included role responsibility and functions. Later on for the
next decade, Leininge presented multiple models for use in studying trans cultural and ethno caring
concepts building upon this original model. But I like this one the most because I feel that

The Internet Without Net Neutrality And The Internet
Net neutrality is the principle that all internet traffic should be treated equally by the internet service
providers. This policy is beneficial because all users of the internet will receive equal internet speeds
and fair treatment. Taking away this equal treatment would defeat the purpose of an evolving system.
This principle was created by Tim Wu in 2003 as an extension of of the common carrier concept
which described the role of telephones in society. Net Neutrality towards applications and data has
been one of the main reason for the Internet s success. It has granted the Internet s amazingly
innovative and democratic nature. With net neutrality it is the internet s guiding principle, it is our safe
guard and it preserves our right to communicate freely online. The internet without Net Neutrality
changes the image of what the internet is today. Without net neutrality, phone and cable companies
make the calls and decide which websites, content or applications succeed. Overall the government
and all service providers should treat all data the same. With net neutrality it is meant to show that
internet providers like AT T, Comcast, and Verizon, which also have their own television and
streaming video services, can t create slow lanes for competing services. They can not mess up others
in favor of their own (Klint Finley 2017) Without net neutrality, the days when broadband companies
and cell carriers could let traffic flow faster to one brand of phone or computer over

Bill Nye Vs Ham
Bill Nye vs. Ken Ham By: Zan The debate between creationists and evolutionists has been raging on
for centuries. The clash between these opposing views was illustrated through the debate of Bill Nye
and Ken Ham. Bill Nye being from the evolutionist side, and Ken Ham from the creationist. After the
debate was over the winner I believe was quite evident, Bill Nye. I believe that Bill Nye won because
his arguments were concrete, accurate and relatable. He argued over the age of the age of Earth , the
validity of the story of Noah s Ark , and the possibility that all animals were once herbivores.
Primarily, Bill Nye argues that the Earth is way over 6000 years old. He says that it isn t possible for

Essay on The Life of Jane Austen
The Life of Jane Austen
The life of Jane Austen is a very interesting story and many would say that Jane Austen wasn t like the
rest. She was an English novelist who was not only successful but also very quiet about her writings
and publishments; most of her novels were not open to the public during her lifetime. She was born on
December 16th of the year 1775, and she was the seventh child to a well known clergyman and wife.
Jane was not educated like most would be; she was homeschooled by her father. Her father had huge
libraries in their home and this is what created the school like feeling of the Austen estate. Jane was a

her father had always said that a good and sturdy marriage was the key to having a stable and secure
life. Her father acknowledged the fact that single women would have a harder time getting to live in
an estate and that they were most likely to be the ones to lean on wealthier family members and have
some support from them; this is the root of the next novel she wrote, Sense and Sensibility (pbs.org).
Jane Austen had eventually died unmarried, and so did her younger sister, Cassandra (express.co.uk).

How To Defeat Germany In The Battle Of Britain
Britain was able to defeat Germany in the Battle of Britain due to British resilience and poor
judgement from German high command. Germany s air force outnumbered the British significantly;
by August, the Luftwaffe had gathered 2669 operational aircraft, which consisted of 1015 bombers,
346 dive bombers, 933 fighters, and 375 heavy fighters (Churchill 323). The German planes were
faster, but British planes were more manoeuvrable which gave the British an advantage during aerial
combat. Moreover, the British had the strategic advantage of fighting on their home land; German
planes could not fly for very long before having to return back to base to refuel, in contrast the British
could make rapid stops to refuel and return to battle much quicker than the Germans. ... Show more

Essay On The Father Figure In Romeo And Juliet
A father figure is someone who is respected for his paternal qualities and may be an emotional
substitute for a father. William Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet is a tragic story where a pair of star
cross d lovers take their lives when their feuding families prevent them from being together. When
Romeo and Juliet fall in love, Friar Lawrence plays a pivotal role acting as a father figure which
influences several actions in the play. Friar s role as a father figure in Romeo and Juliet is central to
understanding his support for Romeo s love for Juliet, his advice for Romeo to go to Mantua, and his
guidance for Juliet to fake her death. Friar s acceptance for Romeo s love for Juliet is one way that
Shakespeare portrays his role as a father figure in the play. An example of this can be seen in Act 2,
Scene 3 when Friar reprimands Romeo just as a father would for being out all night and falling in love
with another girl. The Friar states, Young men s love then lies / Not truly in their hearts, but in their
eyes. Friar says this to Romeo when he has fallen in love with a girl named Juliet so soon after being
in love with Rosaline. This proves how Friar acts as a father because he cares for Romeo and his well
being even though he is not his son. He takes the time to understand Romeo s situation and give him
some useful advice on what his next steps should be. Friar s support for Romeo s love is just one way
Shakespeare portrays his fatherly figure in the tragic play of Romeo and Juliet. Secondly, Friar is at
his most fatherly when Romeo has killed Tybalt and is distressed about being banished. The Friar tells
Romeo to go to Mantua and be patient until things have settled down in the town of Verona. After
some time has passed and fixed some issues, Friar tells Romeo that the two lovers can once again be
reunited. He states: But look thou stay not till the watch be set, For then thou canst not pass to Mantua,
Where thou shalt live till we can find a time To blaze your marriage, reconcile your friends, Beg
pardon of the Prince, and call thee back With twenty hundred thousand times more joy Than thou

Modern Conventional Psychiatry ( Kraepelin )
A psychotic condition, or a state of psychosis, is where an individual begins to lose touch with reality
by experiencing hallucinations and delusions, and believes them to be real when in fact they are not
(Freudenreich, Weiss, Goff, 2008; APA, 2013; Darton, 2013; NHS, 2014; MedlinePlus, 2015). Modern
conventional psychiatry (Kraepelin, 1987; Shorter, 1992, 1997; Alexander Selesnick, 1966) uses a
predominately biomedical approach to the diagnoses of mental health conditions, which is particularly
so for patients of psychotic conditions (Hunter MacAlpine, 1963; Mayer Gross, Slater, Roth, 1975;
Guze, 1989; Shorter, 1997). The most recently revised diagnostic criteria for the psychiatric diagnoses
can be found in the DSM V (APA, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In order for the drug treatment approach to continue, psychotic conditions must be approached using a
biomedical perspective.
But despite all the influential evidence for this biomedical approach, it is important to note that it is it
is not without its flaws (Read, Bentall, Fosse, 2009). For instance, there is no robust evidence for any
genetic cause (Read, 2004; Joseph, 2006; Sanders et.al, 2008; Hamilton, 2008; Bentall, 2009), with
the evidence for drug intervention argued to be just as questionable (Jones et.al, 2006; Newcomer
et.al, 2004; Guo et.al, 2006; Bobes et.al, 2007; Sikich et.al, 2008). Overall, the biomedical psychiatric
approach to the treatment of psychosis and madness is incomplete and problematic.
The movement of ant psychiatry (Cooper, 1967; Roth, 1973) and the debate of as to whether mental
illness is actually a myth (Szasz, 1972), presents even more concern over the status and usefulness of
psychiatric diagnosis. There is also a huge debate as to whether labelling a patient with a psychiatric
diagnosis for a psychotic condition, and therefore an illness, is not in the patients best interests and is

What Is The Characterization Of The Little Prince
Identification with the Little Prince s Fox Throughout the short children s novel, The Little Prince by
Antoine de Saint Exupery, the Little Prince encounters a variety of different characters, all showing
him or teaching him something about life. My favorite character and the one that I can connect to most
is the Fox. The fox enlightens him on what it is truly is to be tamed. He shows him that you are
responsible for whatever you have tamed, whether it be a pet, a person, or even a rose. When the Little
Prince first stumbled across the fox, he would not go anywhere near him. The fox informed him that if
he wanted to get to know him, he would have to have patience and tame him. He then further
explained how he has never been tamed before, and requested that the Little Prince would do so. Little
by little, each day the Little Prince would get closer and closer to the Fox, at last being able to pet him.
The Fox grew to anticipate seeing the Little Prince at the same time daily, located in the same place.
He grew to love the Little Prince, leading them to establish ties. The Little Prince was not just any
little boy to him anymore. Now that the Fox was tamed, it is time for the Little Prince to leave. The
Fox begins to weep and the Little Princes worries that taming the Fox did not do him any good.
However, the Fox goes onto explain that because of him the golden color of the wheat fields will bring
him joy, because it evokes memories of the Little Prince s

Figure 1: A summary of the various types of Pukulan found in the Kompang Ezhar (Abdullah, 2005)
In Kompang, rhythm is mainly characterized by the interlocking of different parts divided within the
Kompang ensemble. Interlocking is basically done with two or more Kompangs playing
simultaneously, with one part playing the Basic beat which is usually the downbeats; another part
playing the Rhythm beat which is usually the off beats; and an additional part(s) playing the Leading
beat which is usually characterized by triplets or a syncopated rhythm that creates a unique
interlocking texture specific to the Malay Kompang musical genre (Hahril, 2010). In addition,
instrumentation is a musical element that is relatively fixed in Kompang; there is usually a group of
Kompangs playing together, and occasionally, accompanying voice.
1.3 Performance Context
In the Singaporean context, the Malay Kompang is usually seen performed at weddings and
celebratory ceremonies, or at traditional showcases. As the Kompang is usually performed in large,
open spaces, it

The Physiology of Laughter Essay
Laughter is part of everyday life for every human. Although we do it daily, most people do not know
how it works, nor how it helps us with our health. Something that we do all the time is something that
we do not even think about. We, as humans, take laughter for granted. It might come easy to us, but
laughing is actually very complex. It also helps us physically, mentally, and socially. Although, many
people do not agree on humor, we can all agree on one thing: laughter is important.
Laughter is unique movements of the face and body that are expressed due to amusement and
sometimes contempt or derision. (Websters) But do we not need more than that? Do we not deserve to
know more? Of course. Although laughter is something that we ... Show more content on

Whenever the voice box is closed, air cannot travel. However, when the larynx is just barely open, it
produces sound. When we hear the sweet music of laughter, is it because we breathed out while our
vocal cords were not open and with the help of our respiratory muscles, we produce the steady sound
of laughter. But, what goes on in the brain whenever we laugh?
Of course, we all know that the brain is one of our major organs and our brains are always in use, but
what goes on in the brain when we laugh? The study of laughter and the affects it has on the body is
called gelotology. Although laughter may come easy and natural to us, our body has to go through a
rather complex process. We don t know much, but researchers have done studies that have shown that
laughter is caused by many parts of the brain. These researchers have done many tests by hooking
subjects up to an electroencephalograph (EEG). An EEG is a record of the our brain s electrical
activity. (2013, Babylon) When doing these tests, researchers realized that the brain made the same
continuous electrical pattern. The subjects were then shown something that was funny. Not even five
tenths of a second after the subject saw the joke, an electrical waved moved through the cerebral
cortex. This part of the brain, the cerebral cortex, determines intelligence, determines personality,
motor functions, planning and organization, and touch sensation. Laughter would result after the wave

In these following graphs the axis is the average from the population that was asked during the survey.
So the first graph shows that 11% agrees with the statement they are regular givers and give to one or
more charities it shows that Inner Directed people are 30 times more likely than the average person to

As the advert shows both poverty close to home and poverty in other parts of the world they are
attracting the attention of both types of people meaning a larger proportion of the population will

5.3 What type of charities do people give to?
Each of the three sections responds to very different charities. Sustenance Driven are attracted to
institutions such as the Army/ military and hospitals, this is linked to the fact that sustenance driven
people have a strong interest in the safety and security of their communities and nation. They are more
interested in what is happening in the UK rather than international and overseas work.
Outer Directed people are interested in people as they are empathetic to people who are struggling, as
shown in the graph below by the interest in charities that support people with disabilities as well as
children and adults improving themselves. Again this group does not focus on international, or
overseas work are not as popular with Outer Directed people. They are also not as focused on
environmental matters.
Inner Directed people give to totally different causes to the other two, Inner Directed people are
focused on the world as a whole. Meaning they support international charities, as they are interested in
preserving the culture and heritage of other people, for the future.

As a child Adam lanza had little contact with his father and was not properly nurtured by his mother
and the school he attended. As a result, his mental issues were allowed to get out of control and he
ended up committing a horrendous crime. Everyone remembers the events that occurred at Sandy
Hook Elementary School on December 14, 2012. Before Adam Lanza decided to go to Sandy Hook
with a gun, he attended there as a child. In 1998, Lanza began first grade and received speech and
language services along with occupational therapy. When Lanza arrived in second grade he was

fairweather father, Adam wasn t allowed the type of nurturing a boy needs from a father. Mr. Lanza
never imagined the kind of nurturing his son Adam would need as he was developing and growing.
The influential lack of nurturing was present consistently in the early years of Adam Lanza s life.
Even though most of it occurred when he was a child, the lack of nurturement in Adam s life was
there, slightly or considerably, while he was developing and growing. Nurturement wasn t only
lacking from his father and his school, his mother also couldn t imagine how much nurturing it would
take to nurture Adam. As an adolescent, Adam had mental problems which were diagnosed by doctors,
but these problems were never nurtured. HIs mother was a key component to never having his
problems nurtured. At 13 years old Adam was taken to the Emergency Room by his mother for a crisis

he could stay out of school.

The Total Number Of Clinical Trials
The total number of clinical trials in Portugal has recently experienced a reduction in a
12
13 worrying trend revealing a significant loss of competitiveness in this field. Between 2006 and
14 2012 the number of trials decreased by 26%, i.e. from 160 to 118 studies. The trough in these

Physics Of A Roller Coaster Essay
Have you ever looked closely at a roller coaster, though? Did you realize it doesn t have an engine?
Have you ever stopped to WONDER how a roller coaster operates at such high speeds without one?
Let s take a look at the scientific principles and forces behind the thrills of the roller coaster.
Since roller coasters don t have engines, they must be pulled by a motorized chain to the top of the
first big hill. As the roller coaster rises higher and higher into the air, its potential energy keeps
growing until it reaches its maximum potential energy at the crest of the hill.
Potential energy is sometimes known as positional energy. Potential energy represents the amount of
work the roller coaster will be able to do with the energy it builds up from falling down the other side
of the hill. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It s the same reason you fall down when you trip. Or why a ball hits the ground when you drop it.
What are we talking about? Gravity, of course!
When a roller coaster crests the first big hill, gravity takes over, causing the roller coaster to fall down
at a constant rate of 9.8 meters per second squared. All that stored potential energy changes to kinetic
energy, which can also be thought of as moving energy.
As the roller coaster falls, it accelerates and builds up enough kinetic energy to propel it through the
remainder of the ride. No engine is required because of inertia. Inertia is one of the laws of physics
described long ago by Sir Isaac Newton. The law of inertia holds that an object in motion will stay in
motion until acted upon by an equal but opposite force.
In the case of a roller coaster, this means that the kinetic energy built up from the fall down the first
hill could keep it going forever. We all know, though, that roller coaster rides don t last forever. That s
because the roller coaster loses energy to other forces as it does loop the loops, curves, and other hills
along the

Egypt is easily the most populated country in the Arab world boasting an impressive 82 million, living

Direct Cinema Essay
Direct Cinema
The term direct cinema was coined by American director Albert Maysles, to describe the style of
documentary that he and his contemporaries were making in the 1960s as a result of a lightweight,
portable 16mm camera and high quality lightweight audio recorders becoming available. The
introduction of these, together with film stock which was sensitive enough to give a good quality close
up monochrome picture under most lighting conditions
(Including hand held lights) led to a revolution in Documentary filmmaking, allowing film crews to be
much more flexible. Gone were the days of bulky, virtually immobile 35mm cameras; now
manufacturers improved their 16mm stock and accepted it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ideal subjects for documentaries according to the direct cinema ethos were:
1) A person who is interesting;
2) A person who is in an interesting situation which s/he cares deeply about;
3) A subject where a conclusion can be arrived at in a limited time; and
4) A subject where there is easy access to events.
The group believed that the cameraman, the director and the sound recordist were all equal in status
and were all film makers, playing a role in an integrated process. They felt that the filmmaker s
relationship with the subject was personal and one of equality, and that an audience was active in its
engagement with the film. Direct cinema practitioners wished the audience to be presented with
sufficient evidence to enable them to make up their own minds and not be mere passive observers.

Direct cinema was conceived with TV in mind. In the 60s TV had poor picture quality, the black and
white image being frequently fuzzy with viewers reliant on good quality sound. Image quality such as
this fitted in perfectly with direct cinema s stance on camera framing and editing; anything more

Masada derives from the Hebrew word mezuda, meaning fortress or stronghold. Currently, it
represents one of the Jewish people s greatest symbols of intransigence. In the name of tradition, some
inductees to the Israeli Defense Forces take their oath of loyalty to the Jewish state on top or at the
Western Wall of Masada, as remnant of the sacred Temple in Jerusalem; The oath ends with Masada

today. The fortification was built by Herod the Great, King of Judaea, who reigned between 37 BCE
and 4 CE as a palace complex for himself. The overall product of Masada was an engineering
achievement with it s architecture and structure, making it habitable in time of emergency. The
geography also provided a natural defense for Masada, which helped Jewish sustenance during their
last form of resistance against the Romans. Evidence of a siege occurring in this ancient plateau
thousands of years ago are primarily sourced by the reminiscence found by archaeologists, as well as
first century Jewish Roman historian Josephus. To further understand the history of Masada, prior
experiences of society at the time shall be considered; the Jewish society has been condemned and

The problem of social marketing is prevalent in developed countries where government and

Judaism And Vegetarianism In Judaism
Hope Budman Conlin Johnson HTM 421 9/19/17 Essay #1 In Judaism there are many important
aspects of food for religious reasons. The main aspect, eating Kosher foods only. As well as, the many
holidays celebrated there are certain foods we eat and certain foods we cannot eat. Some Jews have
been eating Kosher for thousand of years because they follow kashrut (the Torah s dietary laws)
(Freeman). I am Jewish, but do not keep Kosher because I am reform; however, at the Temple I belong
to, it is kept Kosher. Keeping Kosher is a choice and followed by many Orthodox Jews. What are
Kosher foods? According to the book of Genesis, vegetarianism was commanded by God as the ideal
diet. However, in the course of the biblical narratives, this changed to include a variety of different
animals (Staff). Animals allowed to be eaten are, any creature that both chews its cud and has split
hooves...any fish that has both fins and scales... (Staff). Along with the specific foods, you are not
allowed to mix dairy with meat. That is why at my Temple, we have separate kitchens to keep
everything Kosher. Going shopping in your grocery store you can noticeably see some Kosher
products, like Kosher pickles and Kosher hot dogs. Like every religion there are specific foods you
eat; however, there are times we are restricted from eating some foods. Starting with the first major

The Role Of Eugenics In The Twentieth Century
In the twentieth century, the eugenics movement assembled a powerful coalition of progressives,
intellectuals, and professionals to advocate an agenda of eugenic legal reform. This agenda centered
on the belief that many undesirable traits are hereditary and that the government should be permitted
to remove those traits from the racial stock. Those who were mentally disabled or ill, or belonged to
socially disadvantaged groups were the main targets for the movement. C.W. Saleeby once stated The
feeble minded, and the alcoholic, and the insane, and those afflicted with venereal disease, must be so
guarded and treated in the future that they shall not become parents at all. This disgusting and ignorant

The scary part is that many of them perceived their agenda of separating the classes as following the

permitting criminals and weaklings to reproduce. All over the country today we have enormous insane
asylums and similar institutions where we nourish the unfit and criminal instead of exterminating
them (Luther Burbank), however, both genetics and reality are far more complicated than that.
Brilliant parents do not produce brilliant children and criminals do not produce criminals. Eugenicists

Hip Hop Culture And Rap Music
Over the past few years, hip hop culture and rap music has stirred up controversy throughout America
and it s media. Whether it is Dr. Dre s 1992 hit single A Nigga Witta Gun or Bobby Shmurda s 2014
hit single Hot Nigga that boasts about shooting other African Americans, it seems that the media has
denounced the hip hop culture and criticized them for the continuous increase on inner city youth
violence. If people would just listen closer to hip hop s message instead of assuming it has negative
intensions, they will realize that hip hop culture is simply a liberation movement was started and still
ran mostly by the black inner city youth in America. For years, the black inner city youth has been
oppressed through racial and economic situations and they believe that the hip hop movement is the
next civil rights movement in America. They have similar intentions as Martin Luther King did during
the 1960 s civil rights movement; their way of peaceful protest is through the four main areas involved
in hip hop culture: DJing, breakdancing, graffiti, and most importantly rap music (Romano). The East
and West coast were always competing against each other through means of hop hop. It was all about
which region had the better DJs, graffiti artist, b boys and b girls, and MCs. Each element of hip hop
had a positive impact on American culture. B boying and b girling (breakdancing) was the beginning
of the hip hop movement and it ended lots of violent gang warfare because

Amnesty To Illegal Immigrants Essay
U.S. government should not grant amnesty to illegal immigrants. When the government grant amnesty
to unauthorized immigrants, people who cross the U.S. border illegally would get legal status. As the
population of unauthorized immigrants increased and consequences of granting amnesty were shown,
questions about whether or not unauthorized immigrants should stay in the United States became
controversial. Although some people argue that illegal immigrants pay taxes and work hard, they are
actually harming our society politically and economically. For example, they abuse America public
services such as education and health care system, create heavy burdens for US taxpayers by receiving
more benefits than paying taxes, contribute to crime rates, and take jobs from legal citizens.
In 1986, president Ronald Reagan passed The Immigration Reform and Control Act, ... Show more

The number of undocumented immigrants has exploded from 5 million in 1986 to more than 11
million today (Heubusch, John. What Reagan would do about Immigration. , sks.sirs.com) .
In other words, granting amnesty to illegal immigrants actually stimulate more people to enter our
state illegally. As a result, amnesty should not be granted to undocumented immigrants since it will
not help to reduce population nor do any good for the country.
Amnesty should not be granted to unauthorized immigrants due to its negative impacts to our society.
First, when people look back at the history of undocumented immigrants, they will discover that
passing amnesty will cause more people to come to the country illegally. Second, immigrants are tax
consumers, they created heavy burden for U.S. taxpayers. Third, immigrants take jobs from and lower
the wages of U.S. workers. Lastly, they were contributing to the country s crime rate. All these reasons
can prove that granting amnesty is detrimental to the country and there is no point for the government
to enact

Professional Voice Analysis
In the text, Professional Voice is how we adapt to the values and distinctive voices in our chosen
discipline. There are several ways to accomplish this, one of those ways is to look the part, in other
words dress for the role. Secondly, when we communicate within our discipline, understanding how to
speak and write the language of your profession is essential. However, we need balance in our
communication skills, verbal and written, not too complex or simple, but effective enough to
communicate with a distinctive professional voice. In my disciplines (Social Work and Art Education),
there are several different levels; one of those is learning to speak the language of scholarly art

The Sources Of Fossil Fuels
IV. Fossil Fuels
Fossil Fuels are the natural fuels such as coal or gas found in the Earth s crust. It is formed in the
geological past from the remains of living organisms. A hydrocarbon deposit, such as oil, coal, or
natural gas, derived from the accumulated remains of ancient plants and animals. Carbon dioxide and
other gases were produced by burning fossil fuels are considered to be one of the principal causes of
global warming.
A. The origin of coal is a plentiful fossil fuel and has been used historically by the Greeks, Romans,
and Chinese.
1) Types of coal how formed, composition.
a) Peat as an energy source is limited and was not considerably ranked. It is the first step in the coal
formation and is made of over sixty ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Lignite is also the lowest ranked because of its low heat content. Usually it was burned as a fuel at
some steam electric generating plants that are mined in China, Greece, Germany, Turkey, Canada and
the United States. However, while Germany s electricity comes from lignite power plants, Greece,
lignite is approximately 50% of power. Lignite s carbon content is only 25% 35%.
c) Bituminous coal is formed as more pressure is enforced on to the lignite coal. The more the
pressure is enforced, the more water is discharged which increases the amount of pure carbon and
increases the heat content of the coal. Bituminous coal is mostly formed when a sub bituminous coal
is of higher levels of metamorphism. It is used in the United States at about 50%, and across Europe.
Bituminous has a carbon content between 77% and 87% on a dry ash free basis and a heating value
that is much higher that lignite or sub bituminous coal (2). Sub bituminous is the second lowest energy
content.
d) Anthracite coal is of a metamorphic rock and is considered the highest grade. It is hard and its color
is dark black and shiny. It has a very light weight when compared to other forms of coal and there is a
very little water present. As a result, anthracite has the highest heat content and less smoke. Its pure
carbon content is over 85%. Anthracite is formed when the bituminous coal is opened to extreme
pressure. Historically, anthracite was mined in a 480 square

Juvenile Criminals
I believe juveniles with a major criminal background, such as murder should be sued as adults and
faced life in prison if it s necessary. Being a minor should not be an excuse to pay for the felonies
someone commits. Although many opponents think that a minor shouldn t be charged as an adult,
arguing that juveniles don t know what they doing when they are doing something illegal because a
brain of a teen is not fully develop until they are 18 years old. But is it true? Who proved that? A
criminal not only affects his victim, but also third persons for example the victim s family and
sometimes even the criminal s family. Back in 2001 a young man was murdered by another teen. They
were good friends and neighbors. When the 17 ½ year old found ... Show more content on

They are less mature, more vulnerable, cannot escape from dangerous environments, and their
characters are still in formation. However, brain imaging studies reveal that the regions of the
adolescent brain responsible for controlling thoughts, actions, and emotions are not fully developed.
Young people...cannot be held to the same standards when they commit terrible wrongs (Garinger) in
the other hand Jennifer Jenkins argues that the development of the brain of a teen has nothing to do
with what they do because even though their brain might still in the process of developing a juvenile
still understands what s right and what s wrong. Advocates often repeat, but truly misunderstand brain
research on this issue. The actual science does not, according to experts such as Professor Stephen
Morse, and others, in any way negate criminal culpability. Also, she stays that many young offenders
are criminals in the making and that they don t necessarily are special cases for example teens with
traumatic childhood. Jenkins says that the majority of young offenders is spoiled, privilege teens that
whenever they face problems their parents would fix it. In fact, that is why they became public
enemies because they are hiding behind their

The Negative Effects Of Eurocentric Beauty Standards...
Despite the claim that everyone is beautiful, barely 20% of the models in New York, London, Paris,
and Milan for fashion week are people of color (Wilson, 2014). Eurocentric beauty standards have a
negative impact on countless people around the world who do not fit into these set values. These
standards are often times valued over non European features, and this impacts children at a younger
age than some may believe. It is not uncommon for people with lighter skin to be more valued than
those who have darker skin. A prime example of the effects of Eurocentric beauty standards around
the world is shown in A White Woman of Color by Julia Alvarez:
The oldest sister had the darkest coloring, with very curly hair and coarse features. She looked the
most like Papi s side of the family and was considered the least pretty. [...] But the pride and joy of the
family was the baby. She was the one who made heads turn and strangers approach asking to feel her
silken hair. She was white white, an adjective that was repeated in describing her color as if to deepen
the shade of white. (Alvarez, 1998, p. 131). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Those who have lighter skin and features that are similar to those of Europeans are often considered
more attractive, while those who have darker skin are looked down upon. In Asia, numerous women
use skin whitening creams, and some even go as far as to have double eyelid surgeries. Plastic surgery
is also common in Lebanon, where one in three women will undergo treatment. Many African women
also find the need to change the texture of their hair (Eurocentric 2015). All over the world, women of
color feel pressured by societal expectations to alter their appearances to fit into a more Eurocentric

The Impact of the Industrial Revolution on Europe Essay...
The Industrial Revolution hit Europe and along with it came a great deal of change. Not only did this
industrial revolution affect standards of living in cities, it also affected greatly the nature and quality
of labor. The Industrial Revolution had an impact of the greatest magnitude on Europe and has shaped
the work style and nature of labor that Europeans know today. Although it may seem like a revolution
of this sort would have great benefits for those who lived through it, evidence seems to show
otherwise. For many it was difficult to adapt to this new world of industrial labor and for others it was
a bit easier to adjust.
Preindustrial labor, or old labor, was not easy. Days were long and pay was never sufficient enough for

Preindustrial labor often gave a strong sense of individualism, independence, and satisfaction. To
many the old system of labor seemed luxurious compared to the new type of work the Industrial
Revolution brought.
One would think industrialization would bring better paying jobs and more employment opportunities,
but the stories of the people who lived through the Industrial Revolution say otherwise. Workers faced
long days, if not even longer days than those who worked in preindustrial times. Even though work
hours were somewhat the same as preindustrial labor, the way those hours were carried out differed
greatly. Laborers no longer had the comfort of working alongside and socializing with their families
nor the power to control their pace of work. Workers would now be punished and penalized for doing
such things. Companies would enforce punctuality and pace usually by correlating it with a worker s
pay. The less punctual and lazier you were, the more fines and the more pay decreases you would
suffer. The nature of this new labor emphasized more on the importance of the company rather than
the individual. Companies often had little concern when their workers suffered. If someone was
incapable of performing their duties, there was always somebody else to take their place. It was
unfortunate because many of these workers who were unable to perform well at their job often
suffered from

Karl Marx, Adam Smith, And Andrew Carnegie
Catherine Lundy
Kurt Weber
Section #62
20th Cent. World History
Fall 2015
Karl Marx, Adam Smith, and Andrew Carnegie The writings of Karl Marx, Adam Smith, and Andrew
Carnegie all made significant impacts in society not only in their time, but continuing to this day.
Marx shared is opinions on capitalism and his views of the progression of human society in his
writing, The Communist Manifesto which he wrote with Friedrich Engles and published in 1848.
Marx believed in the idea of a society with no capitalism and the abolition of the bourgeoisie. Adam
Smith wrote a book called The Wealth of Nations which was published in 1776. In his book he tells
the reader what helps to build the economy of a nation and essentially advocates for capitalism.
Andrew Carnegie was a self made multimillionaire who gained his wealth by investing in the
railroads. In 1889 he wrote an article titled The Gospel of Wealth in which he discusses the duty of the
upper class to distribute their surplus wealth to those in need. All three of these men were influential in
their works and ways of life, but all three had extremely different opinions on capitalism. Karl Marx s
viewed capitalism as something that was negative for our society, but that would eventually become a
positive. Because of capitalism, the bourgeoisie (upper and middle class) would often oppress the
proletarians (working class). In The Communist Manifesto he discusses how capitalism is part of the
transition to communism. Marx

America s Postwar Role
During the war, many visions of America s postwar role began to emerge. One of the key roles that
began to emerge was the idea of equality for all. Americans established that Americanism rested on
toleration of diversity and equality for all, while the enemy s philosophy was racism. So, by the end of
the war the new immigrant groups had been fully accepted as loyal ethnic Americans, rather than
distinct and inferior races. Another idea of America s postwar role, was brought to light in 1944 when
the president called for an Economic Bill of Rights. Franklin D. Roosevelt proposed to expand the
government s power in order to secure full employment, an adequate income, medical care, and a
decent home for all Americans. Already ill and preoccupied

Examples Of Archetypes In The Great Gatsby
Review: A young lion prince is born in Africa, thus making his uncle Scar the second in line to the
throne. Scar plots with the hyenas to kill King Mufasa and Prince Simba, thus making himself King.
The King is killed and Simba is led to believe by Scar that it was his fault, and so flees the kingdom in
shame.
In the movie The Lion King, there are many different types of archetypes shown in many ways. The
archetypal pattern that is shown in the movie is end of childhood/loss of innocence. This pattern is
about the tragedy of growing up. This is demonstrated in the movie by the loss that Simba experiences
with his father. This would be recognized as an individual loss of innocence, because Simba had to
learn how to cope with the death of his father. In the movie, Simba would be classified as the hero. A
hero is usually the central character with courageous qualities, that must undertake a difficult task.
That is exactly what Simba does, he demonstrates this by stopping the antagonist, Scar. ... Show more

Schools Should Not Conduct Random Locker Searches In Schools
On a scale basis, most people actually hate locker searches and think that schools need to terminate
them. Joseph, a friend of a student whose locker got searched said. His friend, Ryan had school locker
searches in his school. They were allowed to have their phones out during lunch, but when the security
pulled him away from his friends at lunch to have a locker search, they confiscated Ryan s iPod 4. He
never saw it again. The security said that they kept it, but it somehow got lost. Students should not
conduct random locker searches because they will lose their privacy, have misplaced focus, and the
search could lead to legal issues. I mean, how many times have people found bad in lockers in the past
12 years?

Article 3 states, Because students may keep personal items in their lockers, such as photographs and

Identifying Our Strengths As Individuals Can Be Refreshing
Identifying our strengths as individuals can be refreshing. We are often criticized for our failures
without receiving proper praise for our accomplishments. Personally, my strengths can be found in my
interpersonal skills, effective style of communication, and my ability to adapt and embrace current
surroundings. I am very social. I know, a shock to anyone who works with me on a regular basis. In all
seriousness, I genuinely enjoy people. I want to hear their stories and see where they have been on
their journey that has let them to the same place as me. This personal attribute translates well into the
work of student affairs. My hope is to build from that talent by learning how to listen more and talk
less. As a performer, my first instinct to share and to think that other professionals or students will be
willing to share on the same level. I recognize the impact of taking a step back, observing the
situation, understanding my present company, and truly engaging with them through listening. This
leads me to my next ability, effective style of communication. Whether it is through email, a phone
call, or in person, I am constantly attempting to stay positive and keep the conversation warm. It can
be a great way for students to know that I am someone they can come to about anything. However, it
can also be seen as indirect or informal. Through this program, especially in my graduate
assistantship, I am discovering how to communicate with assertion without losing my personal

  • 2. Analysis Of Blood In The Hills Based off glancing at the title alone, the reader is immediately aware of what to expect upon opening the publication. Blood in the Hills: The Story of Khe Sahn, the Most Savage Fight of the Vietnam War, written by Robert Maras, with the assistance of Charles W. Sasser, tells the story of Maras, a Vietnam veteran, and his experiences during the war. From his combat landing on Red Beach, to his departure from the Demilitarized Zone, also known as the DMZ, Robert Maras describes in great detail the joys and sorrows of his time in Vietnam. The book also exhibits the development of the average Marine, and the mental and physical toll the fighting at Khe Sanh takes on each individual. Throughout the memoir, the warrior creed of Semper Fidelis is repeated an abundance of times, meaning always faithful, and symbolizing the US Marine Corps determination to fight for their beloved country (Maras 3). This saying was especially influential during the times Bob Maras was subjected to viewing his comrades perish before him, as he could only hope he would survive the countless battles in the jungle terrain of Khe Sanh. Blood in the Hills is a powerful read for those engrossed with not only the corporeal aspect of war, but fascinated in learning about warfare from a psychological perspective. Critically speaking, the authors are somewhat qualified to discuss the topic at hand, but Maras, the protagonist, is by no means a professional historian on the Vietnam War. In fact, the same ... • 4. Conch Symbolism In Lord Of The Flies Symbols: a mark or character used as a conventional representation of an object, function, or process. Throughout this story the use of symbols were greatly used as a representation of a civilization journey. The process was made up of 3 important symbols in the novel to which helped the boys find an escape from the island. The boys found an escape route even if the symbols were made as a negative impact on how they lived or as a positive impact. The novel, The Lord of the Flies, written by William Golding utilizes the symbols of: the conch as an illustration of leadership, the signal fire which illustrates a man s struggle for survival, and the beast is a representation of man s fear of the unknown. The conch is used as a symbol in the story as order to act as leader while holding the conch. As the boys held the conch to speak they were given the chance to let out what they have to say without everyone talking at the same time. That s what this shell s called. I ll give the conch to the next person to speak. eaking. And he won t be interrupted. Except by me. He can hold it when he s speaking. And he won t be interrupted . Expect by me. We can use this to call others. Have a meeting. They ll come when they hear us As a person receives the conch the boy s fight over to who holds it next to speak which causes unbalanced emotions which causes a separation into two groups. The importance of the conch served as how they reacted with each other in society manner wise, since one person could only be the one speaking the others would have to show manners so that no conflict would start over who s talking and to wait a turn. The signal fire was used as an resource for man s survival as a way to be found by using it. The source of the fire comes to as a personal idea on how Ralph thought of the idea to create a fire to be later be found by aircraft. There s another thing. We can help them to find us. If a ship comes near the island they may not notice us. So we must make smoke on top of the mountain. We must make a fire. There s another thing. We can help them to find us. • 7. Human Condition One of the reasons the movement is so difficult to define is because many of these thinkers have differing views on what the human condition is, which is at the center of the study of existentialism. Something that is found to be common between many existentialist, though, is their consistent and utter rejection to any and all systems, theories and organizational constructs that attempt to answer the question of the human condition, and give value to our existence in a comprehensive approach whether they are based in religion, science or philosophy. One of the most historically outstanding systems which claims to explain some core existential questions about the human condition is religion. Religion was something that filled the void of the existential question for as long as humanity has existed, and alleviate the concern of creating meaning and purpose. Oftentimes, constructs such as religion offer a partial experience, often such systems will see the meaning and purpose to life as somehow emanating from an alternative, objective realm, such as heaven. However; in doing so they lose sight of the perspective of what life is like for an individual living on this earth and experiencing all the fears, anxieties, hopes and disappointments that are a part of the human condition. For example, many of the mass organized religions often provide answers to many of the vexing questions of life from the perspective of an all knowing and all powerful God, whose word is thought to be communicated to us through prophets. • 10. The Internet Without Net Neutrality And The Internet Net neutrality is the principle that all internet traffic should be treated equally by the internet service providers. This policy is beneficial because all users of the internet will receive equal internet speeds and fair treatment. Taking away this equal treatment would defeat the purpose of an evolving system. This principle was created by Tim Wu in 2003 as an extension of of the common carrier concept which described the role of telephones in society. Net Neutrality towards applications and data has been one of the main reason for the Internet s success. It has granted the Internet s amazingly innovative and democratic nature. With net neutrality it is the internet s guiding principle, it is our safe guard and it preserves our right to communicate freely online. The internet without Net Neutrality changes the image of what the internet is today. Without net neutrality, phone and cable companies make the calls and decide which websites, content or applications succeed. Overall the government and all service providers should treat all data the same. With net neutrality it is meant to show that internet providers like AT T, Comcast, and Verizon, which also have their own television and streaming video services, can t create slow lanes for competing services. They can not mess up others in favor of their own (Klint Finley 2017) Without net neutrality, the days when broadband companies and cell carriers could let traffic flow faster to one brand of phone or computer over ... After the debate was over the winner I believe was quite evident, Bill Nye. I believe that Bill Nye won because his arguments were concrete, accurate and relatable. She was born on December 16th of the year 1775, and she was the seventh child to a well known clergyman and wife. Jane was not educated like most would be; she was homeschooled by her father. Her father had huge libraries in their home and this is what created the school like feeling of the Austen estate. Later on Jane had been proposed to by one of her close friend s brother, and she accepted only because she felt like it was the right thing to do because it was kind of an in the moment act. She had turned him down the next day and this was very painful for her because her father had always said that a good and sturdy marriage was the key to having a stable and secure life. Her father acknowledged the fact that single women would have a harder time getting to live in an estate and that they were most likely to be the ones to lean on wealthier family members and have some support from them; this is the root of the next novel she wrote, Sense and Sensibility (pbs.org). • 18. How To Defeat Germany In The Battle Of Britain Britain was able to defeat Germany in the Battle of Britain due to British resilience and poor judgement from German high command. Germany s air force outnumbered the British significantly; by August, the Luftwaffe had gathered 2669 operational aircraft, which consisted of 1015 bombers, 346 dive bombers, 933 fighters, and 375 heavy fighters (Churchill 323). The German planes were faster, but British planes were more manoeuvrable which gave the British an advantage during aerial combat. Moreover, the British had the strategic advantage of fighting on their home land; German planes could not fly for very long before having to return back to base to refuel, in contrast the British could make rapid stops to refuel and return to battle much quicker than the Germans. ... • 19. Essay On The Father Figure In Romeo And Juliet A father figure is someone who is respected for his paternal qualities and may be an emotional substitute for a father. William Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet is a tragic story where a pair of star cross d lovers take their lives when their feuding families prevent them from being together. When Romeo and Juliet fall in love, Friar Lawrence plays a pivotal role acting as a father figure which influences several actions in the play. Friar s role as a father figure in Romeo and Juliet is central to understanding his support for Romeo s love for Juliet, his advice for Romeo to go to Mantua, and his guidance for Juliet to fake her death. Friar s acceptance for Romeo s love for Juliet is one way that Shakespeare portrays his role as a father figure in the play. An example of this can be seen in Act 2, Scene 3 when Friar reprimands Romeo just as a father would for being out all night and falling in love with another girl. The Friar states, Young men s love then lies / Not truly in their hearts, but in their eyes. Friar says this to Romeo when he has fallen in love with a girl named Juliet so soon after being in love with Rosaline. This proves how Friar acts as a father because he cares for Romeo and his well being even though he is not his son. He takes the time to understand Romeo s situation and give him some useful advice on what his next steps should be. Friar s support for Romeo s love is just one way Shakespeare portrays his fatherly figure in the tragic play of Romeo and Juliet. Secondly, Friar is at his most fatherly when Romeo has killed Tybalt and is distressed about being banished. The Friar tells Romeo to go to Mantua and be patient until things have settled down in the town of Verona. After some time has passed and fixed some issues, Friar tells Romeo that the two lovers can once again be reunited. He states: But look thou stay not till the watch be set, For then thou canst not pass to Mantua, Where thou shalt live till we can find a time To blaze your marriage, reconcile your friends, Beg pardon of the Prince, and call thee back With twenty hundred thousand times more joy Than thou ... Modern Conventional Psychiatry ( Kraepelin ) A psychotic condition, or a state of psychosis, is where an individual begins to lose touch with reality by experiencing hallucinations and delusions, and believes them to be real when in fact they are not (Freudenreich, Weiss, Goff, 2008; APA, 2013; Darton, 2013; NHS, 2014; MedlinePlus, 2015). Modern conventional psychiatry (Kraepelin, 1987; Shorter, 1992, 1997; Alexander Selesnick, 1966) uses a predominately biomedical approach to the diagnoses of mental health conditions, which is particularly so for patients of psychotic conditions (Hunter MacAlpine, 1963; Mayer Gross, Slater, Roth, 1975; Guze, 1989; Shorter, 1997). In order for the drug treatment approach to continue, psychotic conditions must be approached using a biomedical perspective. But despite all the influential evidence for this biomedical approach, it is important to note that it is it is not without its flaws (Read, Bentall, Fosse, 2009). For instance, there is no robust evidence for any genetic cause (Read, 2004; Joseph, 2006; Sanders et.al, 2008; Hamilton, 2008; Bentall, 2009), with the evidence for drug intervention argued to be just as questionable (Jones et.al, 2006; Newcomer et.al, 2004; Guo et.al, 2006; Bobes et.al, 2007; Sikich et.al, 2008). Overall, the biomedical psychiatric approach to the treatment of psychosis and madness is incomplete and problematic. The movement of ant psychiatry (Cooper, 1967; Roth, 1973) and the debate of as to whether mental illness is actually a myth (Szasz, 1972), presents even more concern over the status and usefulness of psychiatric diagnosis. There is also a huge debate as to whether labelling a patient with a psychiatric diagnosis for a psychotic condition, and therefore an illness, is not in the patients best interests and is actually more for the benefit of the psychiatrist (Parsons, 1951, 1972; Foucault, 1973; Conrad, 1992; Shilling, 2002; Padamsee, 2011). My favorite character and the one that I can connect to most is the Fox. The fox enlightens him on what it is truly is to be tamed. He shows him that you are responsible for whatever you have tamed, whether it be a pet, a person, or even a rose. When the Little Prince first stumbled across the fox, he would not go anywhere near him. The fox informed him that if he wanted to get to know him, he would have to have patience and tame him. He then further explained how he has never been tamed before, and requested that the Little Prince would do so. Little by little, each day the Little Prince would get closer and closer to the Fox, at last being able to pet him. The Fox grew to anticipate seeing the Little Prince at the same time daily, located in the same place. He grew to love the Little Prince, leading them to establish ties. The Little Prince was not just any little boy to him anymore. Now that the Fox was tamed, it is time for the Little Prince to leave. But, what goes on in the brain whenever we laugh? Of course, we all know that the brain is one of our major organs and our brains are always in use, but what goes on in the brain when we laugh? The study of laughter and the affects it has on the body is called gelotology. Although laughter may come easy and natural to us, our body has to go through a rather complex process. These researchers have done many tests by hooking subjects up to an electroencephalograph (EEG). An EEG is a record of the our brain s electrical activity. Have you ever stopped to WONDER how a roller coaster operates at such high speeds without one? Let s take a look at the scientific principles and forces behind the thrills of the roller coaster. Since roller coasters don t have engines, they must be pulled by a motorized chain to the top of the first big hill. As the roller coaster rises higher and higher into the air, its potential energy keeps growing until it reaches its maximum potential energy at the crest of the hill. Potential energy is sometimes known as positional energy. Potential energy represents the amount of work the roller coaster will be able to do with the energy it builds up from falling down the other side of the hill. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It s the same reason you fall down when you trip. Or why a ball hits the ground when you drop it. What are we talking about? Gravity, of course! When a roller coaster crests the first big hill, gravity takes over, causing the roller coaster to fall down at a constant rate of 9.8 meters per second squared. All that stored potential energy changes to kinetic energy, which can also be thought of as moving energy. As the roller coaster falls, it accelerates and builds up enough kinetic energy to propel it through the remainder of the ride. No engine is required because of inertia. Inertia is one of the laws of physics described long ago by Sir Isaac Newton. The law of inertia holds that an object in motion will stay in motion until acted upon by an equal but opposite force. In the case of a roller coaster, this means that the kinetic energy built up from the fall down the first hill could keep it going forever. We all know, though, that roller coaster rides don t last forever. That s because the roller coaster loses energy to other forces as it does loop the loops, curves, and other hills along the ... The main aspect, eating Kosher foods only. As well as, the many holidays celebrated there are certain foods we eat and certain foods we cannot eat. Some Jews have been eating Kosher for thousand of years because they follow kashrut (the Torah s dietary laws) (Freeman). I am Jewish, but do not keep Kosher because I am reform; however, at the Temple I belong to, it is kept Kosher. Keeping Kosher is a choice and followed by many Orthodox Jews. What are Kosher foods? According to the book of Genesis, vegetarianism was commanded by God as the ideal diet. However, in the course of the biblical narratives, this changed to include a variety of different animals (Staff). Animals allowed to be eaten are, any creature that both chews its cud and has split hooves...any fish that has both fins and scales... (Staff). Along with the specific foods, you are not allowed to mix dairy with meat. That is why at my Temple, we have separate kitchens to keep everything Kosher. Going shopping in your grocery store you can noticeably see some Kosher products, like Kosher pickles and Kosher hot dogs. Like every religion there are specific foods you eat; however, there are times we are restricted from eating some foods. The Role Of Eugenics In The Twentieth Century In the twentieth century, the eugenics movement assembled a powerful coalition of progressives, intellectuals, and professionals to advocate an agenda of eugenic legal reform. This agenda centered on the belief that many undesirable traits are hereditary and that the government should be permitted to remove those traits from the racial stock. Those who were mentally disabled or ill, or belonged to socially disadvantaged groups were the main targets for the movement. C.W. Saleeby once stated The feeble minded, and the alcoholic, and the insane, and those afflicted with venereal disease, must be so guarded and treated in the future that they shall not become parents at all. All over the country today we have enormous insane asylums and similar institutions where we nourish the unfit and criminal instead of exterminating them (Luther Burbank), however, both genetics and reality are far more complicated than that. Brilliant parents do not produce brilliant children and criminals do not produce criminals. Eugenicists also failed to realize that social conditions such as poverty and lack of access to education and health care are much more likely to cause negative social outcomes than genetics. They have similar intentions as Martin Luther King did during the 1960 s civil rights movement; their way of peaceful protest is through the four main areas involved in hip hop culture: DJing, breakdancing, graffiti, and most importantly rap music (Romano). The East and West coast were always competing against each other through means of hop hop. It was all about which region had the better DJs, graffiti artist, b boys and b girls, and MCs. When the government grant amnesty to unauthorized immigrants, people who cross the U.S. border illegally would get legal status. Although some people argue that illegal immigrants pay taxes and work hard, they are actually harming our society politically and economically. Despite the claim that everyone is beautiful, barely 20% of the models in New York, London, Paris, and Milan for fashion week are people of color (Wilson, 2014). Eurocentric beauty standards have a negative impact on countless people around the world who do not fit into these set values. These standards are often times valued over non European features, and this impacts children at a younger age than some may believe. It is not uncommon for people with lighter skin to be more valued than those who have darker skin. To many the old system of labor seemed luxurious compared to the new type of work the Industrial Revolution brought. One would think industrialization would bring better paying jobs and more employment opportunities, but the stories of the people who lived through the Industrial Revolution say otherwise. Workers faced long days, if not even longer days than those who worked in preindustrial times. Even though work hours were somewhat the same as preindustrial labor, the way those hours were carried out differed greatly. Laborers no longer had the comfort of working alongside and socializing with their families nor the power to control their pace of work. Workers would now be punished and penalized for doing such things. Companies would enforce punctuality and pace usually by correlating it with a worker s pay. The less punctual and lazier you were, the more fines and the more pay decreases you would suffer. The nature of this new labor emphasized more on the importance of the company rather than the individual. Companies often had little concern when their workers suffered. If someone was incapable of performing their duties, there was always somebody else to take their place. Marx shared is opinions on capitalism and his views of the progression of human society in his writing, The Communist Manifesto which he wrote with Friedrich Engles and published in 1848. Marx believed in the idea of a society with no capitalism and the abolition of the bourgeoisie. Adam Smith wrote a book called The Wealth of Nations which was published in 1776. In his book he tells the reader what helps to build the economy of a nation and essentially advocates for capitalism. Andrew Carnegie was a self made multimillionaire who gained his wealth by investing in the railroads. In 1889 he wrote an article titled The Gospel of Wealth in which he discusses the duty of the upper class to distribute their surplus wealth to those in need. All three of these men were influential in their works and ways of life, but all three had extremely different opinions on capitalism. Karl Marx s viewed capitalism as something that was negative for our society, but that would eventually become a positive.
