Vietnam Veterans Research Paper
There are over 45 percent of the 1.6 million veterans from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan that are
seeking compensation for injuries they claim are related to their military service. That is over double
the 21 percent of veterans that filed service connected claims after the Gulf War in the early 1990s.
Additionally, these new veterans are claiming on average eight to nine issues and the most recent ones
received by the VA are claiming 11 to 14 ailments. In comparison, the Vietnam veterans are averaging
compensation for fewer than four ailments and those from World War II and Korea average only two.
The recent wars in Iraq and Afghanistan have been experienced not only on the battlefield but when
they return, the war comes home with them. Military service members have to deal with the emotional
and physical scars and the multiple civilian ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Almost half have been deployed more than once. Many times that number of Americans has been
affected as parents, spouses, children, and friends.
The wars violence has rippled through the nation, affecting families and the communities where they
live. A 2010 report found that child abuse in Army families was been three times higher in homes from
which a parent was deployed. From 2001 through 2011, alcohol use associated with physical domestic
violence in Army families increased significantly. This phenomenon could be attributed to increased
alcohol consumption among military veterans suffering from combat related wounds, injuries and
illnesses.
The causes of these elevated levels of suffering in military veterans and their families lives are
multifactorial and cannot be just the direct result of combat exposure. The factors contributing to this
very large number and significant scale of problems are not all fully understood, but are alarming.
Most of these problems can be attributed as direct or indirect effect of a decade of

Islamic Possession Of Firearms And Explosives
On Feburary 28, 1993, at Mount Carmel in Waco, Texas, agents from the ATF launched a morning
raid against the Branch Davidian compound as part of an investigation involving the group and the
illegal possession of firearms and explosives. The Branch Davidians, led by David Koresh were a
splinter sect of the Seventh day Adventist. As the agents attempted to breach the complex, gunfire
erupted, that begin a fierce bun fight that ultimately left four ATF agents dead and 15 others wounded.
The Branch Davidians had six mortally wounded, and many others injured, including David Koresh,
who was wounded by the front door of the compound. A central aspect of Koresh s teachings was his
assertion that the apocalyptic events predicted in the Bible s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

They were soon joined by Bradley tanks, which fired tear gas canisters through the compound s
windows. The cult members, many with gas masks on, refused to leave, and around 11:40 a.m. the
operation was completed with about 100 canisters of tear gas being fired into the building. Then just
after noon, a fire could be seen coming from multiple locations within the compound, and minutes
later nine members fled the rapidly spreading blaze. Sounds of gunfire were reported, but soon ceased
as the place became completely engulfed by the flames. Koresh and at least 80 of his followers,
including 22 children, died during the government s second assault on their home. The FBI and DOJ
maintained there was conclusive evidence that the members ignited the fire. On the subject of gunfire
during the fire, the government argued that the Davidians were either killing each other as part of a
suicide pact or they were killing dissenters who attempted to escape the ordered suicide by fire. All the
surviving member contest this official government position, along with critics in the press and around
the world, whose cases against the ATF and FBI s handling of the Waco standoff range from
incompetence to premeditated murder. The conspiracy between the FBI, President Clinton, and Janet
Reno resulted in one of the worst, darkest, and most grievous days in our national history. Waco

Indigenous Art And Other Manifestations Of Indigenous Culture
Indigenous Art and other manifestations of Indigenous culture were discovered during the process of
the colonization of Australia. The first Europeans to arrive in Australia made note of the cultural
artifacts they encountered. Artifacts such as weapons, drawings, sheets of bark and engravings were
collected as colonized culture and housed in scientific and natural history museums where they shared
the space with geological, plant and animal specimens. These objects were initially collected as
curiosities and as sources of information about the exotic native and places. Later they were ordered in
typological sequence to demonstrate the evolution of culture across different societies. These
manifestations of Indigenous culture were regarded as objective information about the diversity of
human culture. They were objects of the exotic worlds not seen as art, however, but as ethnographic
facts. This classification reflected contemporary socio evolutionary thinking of the time which
regarded the Indigenous as people without art. In the mid twentieth century the discourse surrounding
Indigenous Art began to change when major collections were acquired by art galleries as opposed to
ethnographic museums. These great collections of Indigenous objects, reaching back to 1770, provide
an early record of encounters between first Australians and European settlers encounters that have
irrevocably changed Indigenous societies. The Encounters exhibition at the National Museum houses

During the Three Kingdoms period (1st century B.C. A.D. 7th century) taekwondo became the basic
sport for states and villages as a way to improve national defense and combat skills, and soon it was
developed, with the emphasis as a sport, in religious rituals. Under the state sponsorship, Koguryo (37
B.C. A.D. 668) had an organized martial artists called sonbae and Shilla (57 B.C. A.D. 935) boasted
hwarang warriors.
In civilian life, farmers and others decided on the pecking order in villages after a competition of
subokta, an unarmed sport. Around this period, subakhu, a systemized division of skills, was the basis
of all martial arts for the upper class and a useful defense skill for the public. Taekkyon, a basic
martial art which is depicted in old tomb murals in Manchuria, also emerged and developed.
Koryo Dynasty (918 1392)
During this period, taekkyon, which first emerged during the Koguryo and Shilla periods, evolved into
a more systemized martial art. It was already divided into basic moves and hand and foot techniques,
and it was so valued that it was a requisite for warriors to enter government positions. The skills and
its force reached a considerable level, and went through a process of systematization with obyong

The contract can be found at the end of the document, Appendix A. So we own the copyright in the

without letting go of the quality side. They are operating with Strokes producer Gordon Raphael. As
past clients they have had Emmy The Great, Skin, Jeremy Warmsley, Transgressive Records. We will
operate on a daily fee of £200 for a 9 hour day inclusive of all equipment and engineer; we have to
look at problems such as overtime which will cost us £30 per hour or such as additional cost hours
after 9pm which are at engineer s discretion. It would be lovely to work in Pinna Studios
(www.pinnaproductions.com) but much more expensive. Lately these studios have seen the likes of
the Kills, Razorlight, MTV, Endemol but the costs are much higher so they will be hopefully used as
future reference. Just to se the differences, their daily rate is 350£ all services included but only for an
eight hour day. Another solution would be recording the album in Paris as the Band is French at
studioras (http://studioras.free.fr/). They are a new studio and the daily costs would be 28O€ with
engineer for an eight hour day which roughly represents 220£. I thought that recording was going to

Advocacy Competences of School Counselors
Advocacy is one of the major roles for professional school counselors. The concept of advocacy is the
tradition of professional counselors, but the role of advocacy in school counseling was not valued until
the recent times. The purpose of this paper is to give a reflection about the article on school counseling
in order to show and describe the advocacy competencies of school counselors. The article was written
by Jerry Trusty and Duane Brown. The article was set to provide a structure that helps to
conceptualize advocacy in order to develop advocacy competencies. School counselors have a key
role in advocating for academic success for each student in the school. The advocacy makes the
counselors have a leadership role in encouraging and promoting school reforms. The advocacy efforts
of school counselors aim to eliminate obstacles preventing the development of students and to create
chances for all students to learn. It also aims to ensure students have access to the school curriculum
that fits their needs. School counselors collaborate with other people within and outside the school to
assist students meet their learning needs. In addition, advocacy promotes positive and systematic
change in schools (Trusty Brown, 2005). The advocacy competencies according to Trusty and Brown
s article were designed from literature reviews, personal experiences as school counselors. They
categorized them into three groups, that is, counselor s dispositions, knowledge and skills.

Analysis Of The Song Blue Moon
The original version of the song Blue Moon was written in 1934 by Richard Rodgers and Lorenz Hart.
The version by jazz singer Billie Holiday was release in 1952. The work is performed by a mixed
ensemble consisting of a single soloist and a jazz quartet. The meter and the rhythm can be
categorized as a compound meter with accented upbeats. The texture of the version performed by
Billie Holiday is polyphonic as the vocalist and the musicians have different lines of music that are
being performed at the same time. This type of texture was common for the jazz songs of the time.
The melody of the piece stays the same throughout most of the piece until almost the end. During this
part of the song the vocals drop out and a saxaphone replaces the

The First Failure Of The Settlement Of Roanoke Colony
It started in 1583. Sir Humphrey Gilbert organized the enterprise. He ended up drowning while
attempting to colonize St. John s, Newfoundland. Sir Walter Raleigh, his half brother, was chosen to
take over. On March 25, 1584, Raleigh was granted a charter by Queen Elizabeth I to colonize in
North America. The first colony was established in 1584 on Roanoke Island, what is now Dare
County, North Carolina, but over the course of two years they went through some hardships. They
thought the native village of Aquascogoc stole a silver cup, and thus attacked the village. They
remained anyway, even with the lack of food, and some men went back to England to grab more
troops and supplies. In the meantime, from attacking the native village, the colonists were attacked,
but able to repel said attack. When Sir Francis Drake stopped by on the way back and volunteered to
take the colonists back to England, they agreed, leaving behind a couple men to protect Raleigh s
claim to Roanoke. Thus was the first failure of the settlement of Roanoke. ... Show more content on

Problem Identification Several problems were identified during the market assessment. One is

dog food. The three main types of dog food (dry, canned, and treats) are mainly found in the dog food
aisle, but BOPF s brand will ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Importance of Religion in Aztec and Incas Cultures Essay
INTRODUCTION
Religion played a very important role in the Aztec and Inca culture. Religious rituals consisted of
human sacrifice and polytheism. Their deities were inspired by nature and the earth s physical
makeup. Both appear to be similar but peel back the onion and notable differences reveal themselves.
It is difficult for modern day society to understand how human sacrifice can exist in such advanced
civilizations.

Cristobal de Molina, a Spanish priest who would eventually establish a hospital in Cuzco, witnessed

Pachacuti Inca Yupanqui also invented the Capacocha, which was carried out in the following way:
The provinces of Collasuyo, Chinchaysuyo, Antisuyo, and Cuntisuyo would bring to this city, from
each town and lineage of people, one or two small boys or girls, of ten years old. They would also
bring clothes and livestock, as well as sheep [made] of gold, silver, and mullu. These were kept in
Cuzco for the reasons that will be told. After all this was assembled, the Inca would sit in the plaza of
Haucaypata, which is the large plaza of Cuzco. There the children and other sacrifices walked around
the statues of the Creator, Sun, Thunder, and Moon that were already in the plaza for this purpose.
They made two turns around them, and after finishing, the Inca summoned the provincial priests and
had the offerings divided into four parts for the four suyos: Collasuyo, Chinchaysuyo, Antisuyo, and
Cuntisuyo, which are the four regions into which this land is divided. And he would tell them, Each of
you take your share of these offerings and sacrifices, take it to your principal huaca, and sacrifice them
there.
The huaca was the sacred shrine or god and they were all about the Inca Empire. The children were
chosen by the emperor about one year prior to the Capacocha

Five Residential Plumbing Myths Debunked
There are a lot of misconceptions when it comes to plumbing. If you are a homeowner, you might be
unknowingly making huge mistakes based on these myths. Fortunately, by knowing what these
common myths are you can avoid future plumbing problems. Here are five of the biggest residential
plumbing myths debunked:
1. It s Completely Normal For Faucets To Drip
If you are like most people, you probably don t give much thought to a dripping faucet. You might
even think it s normal. However, a dripping faucet is a huge indicator that there is a serious problem
lurking in your plumbing system. Not only does dripping water cost you extra money on your water
bill, it can also affect your water pressure. So if you begin to notice that faucets around your home are
dripping, consult a professional plumber. An inspection can reveal ... Show more content on

Everything Is Fine If It Drains Quickly
Perhaps one of the most costly myths is that the drains are fine, as long as the water drains quickly.
While this does make sense, it s not true. Clogs are often caused by debris buildup that occurs over
time. So just because everything seems to be working fine, doesn t actually mean it is fine. This is
why you should always be proactive and have a plumber inspect and clean your plumbing system
regularly.
4. Ice Cubes Sharpen Garbage Disposal Blades
Another common misconception is that ice cubes sharpen garbage disposal blades. Unfortunately, this
isn t true at all. In fact, tossing ice cubes down your garbage disposal might actually dull the blades.
This is because ice is abrasive and tough on the blades.
5. A Plunger Will Solve The Clog
Finally, if you are like most people you probably believe that all you need is a plunger to remove
clogs. While a plunger certainly can be used, it s not always the best tool for the job. In some cases, a
plunger might not fix the problem at all. So always have a snake or an auger on hand, as these two
tools can also help remove clogs or buildup in the pipe

For example, since the dominant setting of the movie is Norman Bates house and motel, and it is
located in an isolated place which suggests that it is a horror and mystery movie. Moreover, the
isolated setting tells us the character of Norman is lonely and he is more likely to be affected by a
psychological disease.
The choice in Mise En Scene in terms of lightning and shooting angle in the shower scene where
Marion was killed is very interesting. For example, when the killer was trying to kill Marion, the killer
s face was not shown because of the choices made in lighting and shooting angle, which leaves the
audience in suspense about the killer s identity. Also, the choices made in dressing the murderer as an
old lady convince the audience to believe that it is Norman s mother who has killed Marion.
The shower scene is very long and it is pivotal to the movie because it is a mixture of horror, suspense,
and mystery. Most of the shots in the shower scene are close up shots, including the shots of the
shower water and shots of Marion s body which includes but not limited to her legs before the murder
and her back, face, and hands after the murder. These close up are intended to feel emotions and create
suspense for the audience. Apart from this, the shower scene shows continuity cutting because
different shots are taken and edited to show a consistency of the scene in the

Since the time when globalization was introduced in 20th century and with the formation of bodies
such as WTO and NAFTA, hospitality industry has opened a huge range of jobs in the developing
countries. With the coming of globalization, Hotel brands from developed countries started investing
in the developing countries. It has been noted in developing countries like China and India that with
more and more companies investing, poverty level in these countries has subsequently decreased
(Hamdi 2013). Hospitality industries enjoy the fact of low level wages and their setup cost to establish
a business is very low in the developing countries. With the elimination of trade and other barriers

Bus Stop By William Inge
The visual that a play presents is a dominating factor in the quest to invite an audience member into a
world of which they feel a part. In a play such as Bus Stop by William Inge, this is especially
important because Grace s Diner plays a primary role in the storytelling. Inge s use of the iconic
American diner to tell his story is ingenious. Simply setting eyes on the set inevitably evokes pleasant
feelings of familiarity and comfort in the minds of most audience members. A diner is a place where
people gather; a place where individuals from different backgrounds share a similar experience. Inge

and the harsh weather outside be evident from the start. This can be accomplished by presenting the
windows piled with snow on the outside, almost to the top of the windows, as if a snow plow had
pushed the snow up against them. The tops of the windows would appear to be covered in frost. This
visual would provide a realistic and budget friendly means of establishing the weather, because it
would not be necessary to find technology to create an ongoing blizzard outside. Wind sounds with
controllable velocity would contribute heavily to this. The warm colored lighting in the diner, as well

Essay On The Fire
Growing up there were two buildings that caught fire along our block on the same side just four doors
down in each direction. Both occurred at night displacing families that saw the buildings boarded up
with fresh plywood that never quite did cover all the black tinge of the flames that tore through the
windows.
It stayed that way for some time accompanied by that exclusive and ever present burnt odor that
wafted through the neighborhood reminding everyone of the destructive force of fire. For a young boy,
it was intimidating and made the prayer that surrounded the light switch to my bedroom all the more
significant: Bless this house oh Lord I pray, make it safe through night and day.
At some point every summer, the western United ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Militant environmentalists armed with a plethora of lawsuits have been the log jam that has prevented
loggers from our nation s woodlands. Without appropriate logging management in place, forests
become overgrown and destabilized and when faced with the deadly duo of drought and lightning
strikes, woodlands become susceptible to igniting into towering infernos.
Federal firefighters are often successful in knocking down these conflagrations and throughout the
years have become victims of their own success as much biomass underbrush has not only remained,
but multiplied. All that does is become the kindling for the next, inescapable bout of forest fire.
For more than a century, the standing federal policy has been to extinguish all fires. Let it burn is
completely left out of the equation. In fact, such thinking is an anathema to any seasoned firefighter.
According to one longtime, prominent fire official, Greg Fabrizo of Coal Township, PA, a controlled
fire can be the most capable and cost effective means available for managing woodlands.
If the federal government had allowed a place like Yellowstone to have contained burns when fire
does irrupt, they would have avoided their biblical like conflagration that provided so much
destruction back in 1990.
Let it burn should be law. Healthy forests need to burn on a semi regular basis. If they don t, they are
nothing but firestorms in waiting.

December 2006, according to the reports from the BBC and The Wall Street Journal noted that Google

Eliza Haywood Fantomina
Literature Response to Fantomina by (Eliza Haywood) The Age of Enlightenment is a very vital part
in human history. This time period was one of a new found understanding. Many women accepted
society for what it was and depended on men for guidance. Some would say a person who isn t
enlightened has characteristics of a child. Most men had the freedom to do as they pleased. Eliza
Haywood shows many hardships faced by women during this time period. In the story Fantomina she
battles the stereotype of women being dependent, A young lady of distinguished birth, beauty, wit, and
spirit (Haywood, 569). She showed that not only men could become Enlightened, women could also
be Enlightened. This is a true display of female authority. In every

Heroics of Women in Ibsens A Dolls House Essay
Heroics of Women in Ibsens A Dolls House The Heroics of Women
Henrik Ibsen s A Doll s House is a play about a young wife and her husband. Nora and Helmer seem
to be madly in love with one another and very happy with their lives together. Yet the conflict comes
into this show when Nora brags to her friend Ms. Linde about how she had forged her father s name to
borrow money to save her husband s life and how she had been secretly paying off this debt. Helmer
finds out about this crime and is furious, until he finds that no one will ever know about it. This entire
conflict is written to bring to light the ridiculous social expectations demanded of both women and
men. Ibsen expertly leads the audience into accepting that these ... Show more content on

He gives her extra money for Christmastime expenditures and also seeks to give her some luxurious.
Tell me just what within reason you d most like to have. (Ibsen 1570) Helmer is a certainly a man that
lives up to what is expected of him, inside and outside the home.
Nora, as a woman, also has many expectations she must try to live up to. By natural design, women
are not good with money, with planning, or with complicated thinking. They are certainly the
underclass of the sexes. This condition was caused by the fact that women were forced to mold
themselves into a model themselves that men deem desirable and best. The wants and desires of
women were put aside so that they may better perform the role of pleasing the men in their lives. They
were there to support their husbands and help carry on the tasks of keeping the house in order, or they
re to care for their fathers and clean his house of generally care for him. This entire social condition
became an inescapable cycle, since men chose what men should and would be like and they chose as
suits them. A woman did not have the opportunity to go out and find herself or to further her own
talents and abilities. They were instead molded into a shape that would further enhance the men s
talents and abilities. Yet even though the weakest characteristics were attributed to women, great
responsibility was put on them as regarding the raising of their children. It was commonly assumed

The Exploitation Of Land Is Justified Essay
The economy today runs on an antiquated ritual of exploiting, plundering, devastation, and
manipulation of land for material wealth, profiting the wealthy and condemning the poor. This
mindset is no more sophisticated than feudalism, a system so bad it had to be outlawed along with
witchcraft. The idea that exploitation of land is justified has brought plastics to the ocean and leveled
rainforests. Large corporations have grown larger by manufacturing and production, depleting the
planet s resources in the process. Now, companies must make a combined effort to put the
environment first, before profit. Because of their harmful practices, consumers have the right to know
where products come from, how they re made, and the impact on the environment. Furthermore, it is
the responsibility of the large corporations to change their harmful practices, to make strides towards
ending climate change and use clean, sustainable methods.
With the combination of polymers that don t biodegrade and mass overproduction, companies are
harming the environment in severe ways. Plastic, a material seen everywhere, is a polymer made from
oil. It is mass produced to make everything from shampoo bottles to automobiles and does not
biodegrade. When it is eventually thrown out, the waste usually finds it way into the ocean, where it is
either buried under sediment or eaten by marine life (Weisman 287 295). Creating a material that will
ultimately kill marine life will undoubtedly wreak havoc on the

Smallpox And The Epidemic Of Smallpox
During the 19th and 20th centuries, a now eradicated disease called smallpox killed an estimated 300
500 million people. This life threatening disease is marked by a rash of blisters filled with a thick,
opaque fluid that cover the face, arms and legs (see Figure 1). Many of those who managed to survive
smallpox were left with permanent complications such as scars, blindness, and in some instances, limb
deformities. Occurrences of smallpox are believed to go as far back as 10,000 BC. One of the earliest
examples of the disease is the pustular rash found on the mummified body of Pharaoh Ramses V of
Egypt who died in 1157 BC.
For a millennia, generations watched helplessly as their children fell prey to the devastating disease.
But after rigorous vaccination campaigns in the 1960 s, the World Health Organization had confirmed
the eradication of smallpox in 1979 with the last naturally occurring case being reported in 1977. In
order to ensure another epidemic on the same scale smallpox doesn t plague the human population,
vaccinations against infectious diseases such as polio, diphtheria and rubella should be enforced
without exclusions.
The key to combating these virulent diseases is to create an immunization in the general public
through the use of vaccines. In an effort to build a person s immunity towards a particular disease,
vaccines that contain weakened or dead microbes are administered using a hypodermic syringe. By
imitating the substances that cause the

Analysis Of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis Genetics Essay
Analysis of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis Genetics

Analysis of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis Genetics
Over the past decade, the medical community s understanding of chronic illnesses has greatly
increased. This increase is the result of improvements in technology and techniques that have clarified
some of the unknown mechanisms associated with disease. For example, innovations in genetic
sequencing have allowed researchers to analyze the genetic variables and abnormalities that could
contribute to an individual s development of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS). In fact, over 20
different genes have been identified that increase one s susceptibility of developing ALS. Therefore,
an analysis of a recent research study, which elaborates on the genetics of ALS, is essential to
understanding these types of investigations and how they are significant in modern medicine. With
that being said, the purpose of this paper is to review a recently published investigation pertaining to
ALS genetics by Cady et al. (2014) in JAMA Neurology.
Review
ALS is a devastating disorder that has an incidence rate of 5,000 individuals and a prevalence rate of
30,000 (Abel, Powell, Andersen Al Chalabi, 2012). According to Abel et al. (2012), the onset of ALS
is between the ages of 40 and 70 and has no distinct ethnic or racial boundaries. ALS can be
subdivided into two categories: Sporadic and Familial. Individuals with sporadic ALS do not

Weaknesses are a symptom that is prevalent in today s information technology realm, indicating
vulnerabilities and risks that come hand and hand with shared networks like Aircraft Solutions. With
enterprises exchanging an unprecedented level of information over open networks, the vulnerabilities
and possibility of compromised security by unwanted intruders is swelling up into a new type of beast.
At Aircraft Solutions, there are several samples of concerns that could lead to a breach of information

The consequences of leaving all their information in one location can be catastrophic to the company s
operation and integrity as valued by their clients. Remotely storing vital information should be the
first precaution taken when installing an archive full of fragile data. NAS (network attached storage),
typically used in the form of cloud or RAID devices provides a safe approach to storing company
information. Common uses are central file storage, media streaming, print serving and backup for all
the local drives on your network. You can even access most NAS drives from the Internet if desired.
(How to Buy Network Attached Storage Drives, Becky Waring). If the NAS devices aren t sufficient,
file servers can support up to 25 users simultaneously and meet the high demands of the usage that
typically come with a large network. Business Process Management (BPM) software is a crucial
aspect in security policy and infrastructure and another major concern for this firm. Considering the
layout of the network, in which employees from various locations and customers ranging around the
globe can access, Aircraft Solutions should be sure their BPM is strong. One of the primary goals of
instituting a business process management system is to provide greater accountability for departmental
functions, from tracking and monitoring expenditures to ensuring deliverables are met.

Controversial Topics In Half-Century China
Over the past half century, a number of controversial topics have come pouring out of China, spurring
many unsettled ethical debates. Such topics range from environmental impact to the one child policy,
or the treatment of animals to the treatment of athletes and prisoners. However, one case in particular
stands out as especially unethical and immoral; that being, the persecution, torture, capital
punishment, and organ harvesting of Falun Gong practitioners. Falun Gong, which translates to
Dharma Wheel Practice, follows the teachings of Li Hongzhi, drawing upon popular Buddhism and
Taoism, along with a form of Chinese meditation and exercise known as qigong. Though the practice

Mexican American Women
In the early 1940s, America was entering the second world war, and the female community was
reaching new heights in the labor force. Millions of hard working women filled men s positions as
men joined the military, operating complex machinery in factories, farms, and on the road. During this
time, the opportunities and need for labor in the United States opened occupational opportunities for
Mexican immigrants. Some Mexican families settled in the county of Los Angeles, making a home for
their future generations. Many second generation, Mexican American youth, more specifically those
known as zoot suiters and pachuco(a)s, refused to, abide by the norms of segregation, creating a new,
rebellious identity that defied all social expectation, (Escobedo 136). The pachuca women of World
War II challenged societies labels and their communities traditions, creating their own individual,
outrageous and flamboyant ideas of beauty and lifestyle. These actions took Anglo and Mexican
immigrant communities by shock. Because of the unfamiliarity of the pachuca lifestyle, they both
responded negatively, each accusing the other for their outlandish behavior.
The expectations for the second generation Mexican American female were high. Their families not
only expressed the importance of sticking to their traditions and cultures, but they also relied on their
future generations to maintain a good name and reputation for the Mexican immigrant community.
The young Mexican American women,

Vietnam Veterans Research Paper There are over 45 percent of the 1.6 million veterans from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan that are seeking compensation for injuries they claim are related to their military service. That is over double the 21 percent of veterans that filed service connected claims after the Gulf War in the early 1990s. Additionally, these new veterans are claiming on average eight to nine issues and the most recent ones received by the VA are claiming 11 to 14 ailments. In comparison, the Vietnam veterans are averaging compensation for fewer than four ailments and those from World War II and Korea average only two. Many times that number of Americans has been affected as parents, spouses, children, and friends. The wars violence has rippled through the nation, affecting families and the communities where they live. A 2010 report found that child abuse in Army families was been three times higher in homes from which a parent was deployed. From 2001 through 2011, alcohol use associated with physical domestic violence in Army families increased significantly. This phenomenon could be attributed to increased alcohol consumption among military veterans suffering from combat related wounds, injuries and illnesses. The causes of these elevated levels of suffering in military veterans and their families lives are multifactorial and cannot be just the direct result of combat exposure. The cult members, many with gas masks on, refused to leave, and around 11:40 a.m. the operation was completed with about 100 canisters of tear gas being fired into the building. Then just after noon, a fire could be seen coming from multiple locations within the compound, and minutes later nine members fled the rapidly spreading blaze. Sounds of gunfire were reported, but soon ceased as the place became completely engulfed by the flames. Koresh and at least 80 of his followers, including 22 children, died during the government s second assault on their home. The FBI and DOJ maintained there was conclusive evidence that the members ignited the fire. On the subject of gunfire during the fire, the government argued that the Davidians were either killing each other as part of a suicide pact or they were killing dissenters who attempted to escape the ordered suicide by fire. All the surviving member contest this official government position, along with critics in the press and around the world, whose cases against the ATF and FBI s handling of the Waco standoff range from incompetence to premeditated murder. • 5. Indigenous Art And Other Manifestations Of Indigenous Culture Indigenous Art and other manifestations of Indigenous culture were discovered during the process of the colonization of Australia. The first Europeans to arrive in Australia made note of the cultural artifacts they encountered. Artifacts such as weapons, drawings, sheets of bark and engravings were collected as colonized culture and housed in scientific and natural history museums where they shared the space with geological, plant and animal specimens. These objects were initially collected as curiosities and as sources of information about the exotic native and places. Later they were ordered in typological sequence to demonstrate the evolution of culture across different societies. These manifestations of Indigenous culture were regarded as objective information about the diversity of human culture. They were objects of the exotic worlds not seen as art, however, but as ethnographic facts. This classification reflected contemporary socio evolutionary thinking of the time which regarded the Indigenous as people without art. In the mid twentieth century the discourse surrounding Indigenous Art began to change when major collections were acquired by art galleries as opposed to ethnographic museums. These great collections of Indigenous objects, reaching back to 1770, provide an early record of encounters between first Australians and European settlers encounters that have irrevocably changed Indigenous societies. Religious rituals consisted of human sacrifice and polytheism. Their deities were inspired by nature and the earth s physical makeup. Clogs are often caused by debris buildup that occurs over time. So just because everything seems to be working fine, doesn t actually mean it is fine. This is why you should always be proactive and have a plumber inspect and clean your plumbing system regularly. 4. Ice Cubes Sharpen Garbage Disposal Blades Another common misconception is that ice cubes sharpen garbage disposal blades. Unfortunately, this isn t true at all. In fact, tossing ice cubes down your garbage disposal might actually dull the blades. This is because ice is abrasive and tough on the blades. 5. The choice in Mise En Scene in terms of lightning and shooting angle in the shower scene where Marion was killed is very interesting. For example, when the killer was trying to kill Marion, the killer s face was not shown because of the choices made in lighting and shooting angle, which leaves the audience in suspense about the killer s identity. Also, the choices made in dressing the murderer as an old lady convince the audience to believe that it is Norman s mother who has killed Marion. The shower scene is very long and it is pivotal to the movie because it is a mixture of horror, suspense, and mystery. Most of the shots in the shower scene are close up shots, including the shots of the shower water and shots of Marion s body which includes but not limited to her legs before the murder and her back, face, and hands after the murder. Simply setting eyes on the set inevitably evokes pleasant feelings of familiarity and comfort in the minds of most audience members. By natural design, women are not good with money, with planning, or with complicated thinking. They are certainly the underclass of the sexes. The Exploitation Of Land Is Justified Essay The economy today runs on an antiquated ritual of exploiting, plundering, devastation, and manipulation of land for material wealth, profiting the wealthy and condemning the poor. This mindset is no more sophisticated than feudalism, a system so bad it had to be outlawed along with witchcraft. The idea that exploitation of land is justified has brought plastics to the ocean and leveled rainforests. Large corporations have grown larger by manufacturing and production, depleting the planet s resources in the process. Now, companies must make a combined effort to put the environment first, before profit. Because of their harmful practices, consumers have the right to know where products come from, how they re made, and the impact on the environment. Furthermore, it is the responsibility of the large corporations to change their harmful practices, to make strides towards ending climate change and use clean, sustainable methods. • 26. Smallpox And The Epidemic Of Smallpox During the 19th and 20th centuries, a now eradicated disease called smallpox killed an estimated 300 500 million people. This life threatening disease is marked by a rash of blisters filled with a thick, opaque fluid that cover the face, arms and legs (see Figure 1). Many of those who managed to survive smallpox were left with permanent complications such as scars, blindness, and in some instances, limb deformities. Occurrences of smallpox are believed to go as far back as 10,000 BC. One of the earliest examples of the disease is the pustular rash found on the mummified body of Pharaoh Ramses V of Egypt who died in 1157 BC. For a millennia, generations watched helplessly as their children fell prey to the devastating disease. But after rigorous vaccination campaigns in the 1960 s, the World Health Organization had confirmed the eradication of smallpox in 1979 with the last naturally occurring case being reported in 1977. In order to ensure another epidemic on the same scale smallpox doesn t plague the human population, vaccinations against infectious diseases such as polio, diphtheria and rubella should be enforced without exclusions. The key to combating these virulent diseases is to create an immunization in the general public through the use of vaccines. This increase is the result of improvements in technology and techniques that have clarified some of the unknown mechanisms associated with disease. For example, innovations in genetic sequencing have allowed researchers to analyze the genetic variables and abnormalities that could contribute to an individual s development of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS). In fact, over 20 different genes have been identified that increase one s susceptibility of developing ALS.
