Kindergarten In Kindergarten
Kindergarten in the 1870s was a place for the middle class children in Canada. However, the late into
the 19th century kindergarten changed. It went from being a novel childrearing alternative for the
educated middle classes and a popular means of maintaining cultural heritage among German
immigrants, to becoming a widespread form of upper and middle class women s philanthropic work
with poor children and an integral part of many public school systems (Lazerson, 1973 from Dehli,
2014, p. 15). In the 1870s, there were only dozens of kindergartens. There were 400 kindergarten
schools in 1880s. The change was likely due to the increase in jobs and industrial capitalism.
Kindergartens became a place to help the poor and immigrant urban children, and to improve such
children s families and communities (Dehli, 2014, p. 14). In addition, the educators were usually
middle class and upper class women. While there was a rise to industrial capitalism, there was a rise to
women s profession. In the 1870s and 1880s during the weekdays, thousands of three to five year old
children gathered in churches, houses, and schools and engaged in games, songs, stories, and many
more. When the educators were not caring for the children over the weekends the educators visited
children s homes and organized meetings with mothers that could be educators, volunteers, and
contributors to the ECE community. They also promoted kindergarten through their writings, lectures,
fundraising, and lobbying.

A Farewell Of Arms, By Frederic Henry
In the novel, A Farewell to Arms, it mentions several different things about the lives of Frederic Henry
and Catherine Barkley. First, it starts off mentioning Frederic Henry. Frederic Henry is an young
American who just so happened to be in Italy during World War I. Soon Frederic s friend Rinaldi
introduces him to a woman by the name of Catherine Barkley. Catherine Barkley was a British nurse
who is trying to get over the death of her fiance. Additionally, Frederic Henry and Catherine Barkley
were in Italy doing two different occupations. Frederic volunteered as an ambulance driver for the
Italian army while Catherine was a nurse and was stationed at several different hospitals throughout
the course of the novel.

Later in the novel Frederic does realize he does love Catherine in Chapter 14. He shows this by saying
When I saw her I was in love with her. Everything turned over inside of me. (Hemingway, 91)
In chapter nine of A Farewell to Arms Frederic gets wounded. He gets wounded because him and
another driver Gordini go and fetch some food for some of the soldiers. When they go to leave a
bunch of bombs go off and which ends up killing Gordini and injuring Frederic s leg. Fredric s
behavior follow the injury was that of detachment. This is shown when the priest visits him in the
hospital and Frederic confides in him that he hates the war and believes it is a hopeless effort.
In the novel, A Farewell to Arms, the Italian retreat from Caporetto was depicted strongly in book
three. In the morning it is revealed that one of the several attacking forces includes Germany which
terrifies the Italian army. Then Frederic, Bonello, Piani, and Aymo drive around town with an endless
column of people and vehicles behind them. Additionally, in this chapter they have to kill a soldier due
to the fear of being overtaken. These three chapters describe the hardships of war from the perspective
of Frederic.
In the novel, A Farewell to Arms, the love affair between Frederic and Catherine ends quite poorly. In
previous chapters, it was learned that Catherine was

Models Of Emotional Intelligence
1.5 EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE
The term Emotional Intelligence was coined and defined by Salovey and Mayer (1990). Emotional
intelligence can be defined as the ability to monitor one s own and other people s emotions, to
discriminate between different emotions and label them appropriately and to use emotional
information to guide thinking and behaviour. Emotional intelligence also reflects abilities to join
intelligence, empathy and emotions to enhance thought and understanding of interpersonal dynamics.
Despite its recent debut, there are already a number of definitions of EI. These conceptualizations can
be divided into two streams: ability models in which EI is defined as a set of cognitive abilities in
emotional versus mixed trait models that incorporate a wide range of personality characteristics and
other.
1.5.1EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE MODELS
Spielberger (2004) states there are currently three major conceptual models of emotional intelligence:
(1) The Salovey Mayer model
(2) The Goleman model
(3) The Trait model

itself in certain adaptive behaviours. Mayer and Salovey s conception of emotional intelligence is
based within a model of intelligence, that is, it strives to define emotional intelligence within the
confines of the standard criteria for a new intelligence. The model claims that EI includes four types of

Analysis Of Tobias Wolff s Hunters
You fat moron, You aren t good for diddly (Arp 94). Being told these words over and over again, a
person eventually becomes discouraged and insecure. In Tobias Wolff s story, Hunters in the Snow,
main character, Tub is emotionally abused throughout the story. Tub s two friends, Frank and Kenny
haggle him about his personal appearance and sensitivity as he struggles throughout the story.
Frustration and insecurities lead him to the conflict that he always tries to avoid. The emotional abuse
causes Tub to be illogical and sensitive, but then eventually pushes him to become inconsiderate and
self centered.
Tub, the protagonist of the story, is welcomed into the story right in the beginning. The attention on
him is what makes the story. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He doesn t try to make fun of others like Kenny and Frank. Tub tries to cope with the insults. Tub
being soft and emotional, his emotions escalate inside. He never confronts Kenny and Frank when
they say things like, You haven t seen your ball in ten years, he just brushes those type of comments
off, but inside those snide comments kill him (Arp 88). He brushes those comments off so it does not
lead to conflict.
Due to Tub being emotional, he can also be weak. Him being weak causes him to complain at times
during the story, he appears to be tender and easily harmed. Tub complains throughout the story
saying, I waited an hour and I m cold (Arp 86 and 87). Kenny and Frank never show compassion
towards him, making Tub seek even more attention and compassion from them. Tub hoped for Frank
and Kenny to be compassionate and made excuses for his self when he says that his gland problem is
what causes him to be obese. Frank and Kenny continue to make fun of him and show no compassion
at all.
Due to Tub being insecure, he longs for acceptance. In an act of hopelessness, Tub lies about having a
gland problem that causes him to not be able to lose weight on his diet. When Kenny confronts Tub
about not losing any weight as he eats his one hard boiled egg and a stick of celery, Tub gets
defensive, You think I like hard boiled eggs (Arp 88). Lying about his gland problem is one way he

Ethics Paper--Bailout
Bailout Ethics
Americans are outraged. Billions of taxpayer dollars were committed last year to rescuing firms such
as Citigroup and the American International Group (AIG). Earlier this year, several companies who
received Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP) assistance were awarding top executives with
extravagant bonuses. According to the Wall Street Journal, the U.S. government lent $238 billion in
TARP taxpayer funds to almost 700 banks; 44 of these banks have repaid a $71 billion (Johnston, para
6). There remains $167 billion invested in banks. Some critics argue that a mere $167 billion is not
significant to warrant public indignation against bonuses. However, the issue is not about specific
bonus amounts but the principle of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In another example of applying the Rights Approach to bailout bonuses, AIG tells a different story. In
March 2010, AIG is scheduled to distribute yet another $198 million in bonuses to its financial
products employees largely seen as responsible for the firm s failure (Collins, para 11). This will result
in almost $400 million in bonus payments since receiving government assistance (Collins, para 11).
As mentioned previously, AIG does not have a moral right to these bonuses. It would be similar to
someone taking an elaborate vacation just before filing for bankruptcy and expecting the government
to finance his unnecessary expense.
Common Good Approach: Definition and Analysis
In a globalized world, the Common Good Approach has increased in relevance for judging ethical
behavior. It presents a vision of society as a community whose members are joined in the shared
pursuit of values and goals they hold in common (Markkula, para 12). This Approach calls attention to
the conditions that are important to the common welfare of everyone. The principle states: What is
ethical is what advances the common good (Markkula, para 12). The common goal when considering
the bailout is a stable economy. What remains unanswered is why some financial institutions, such as
JPMorgan Chase and Goldman Sachs, were helped with TARP funds while other banks, such as Bear
Stearns and Lehman Brothers, were allowed to

How To Be Learned In My Antonia
The American West: Things Learned from My Antonia The story, My Antonia by Willa Cather holds
many historically accurate information; especially about the way of life on the Nebraska frontier.
Through the Adventures of Jim and Antonia there is much to be learned about the American West. Be
it the hardships of winter, the monetary struggles of immigrants into the land, the trials of farming, or
humble living of everyday citizens; the American West had plenty of learning opportunities. These
learning opportunities were not only for people of that time, but for people even today in this era.
Winters of the American west were extremely difficult, constant storms, food shortages and freezing
temperatures; all of which made the winters so trying. In Dee Brown s Book, The American West on
page 152 she says, Homesteaders who refused to quit and they were in the majority were faced with a
hard winter. Many had no money, no credit, no food; some had no fuel or clothing. The frontier was
no place to be during the cold and bitter winter months. Some families, like the Shimerda family, were

gingham and sheeting. She cut squares of cotton cloth and we sewed them together into a book. The
humble living on the frontier is very obvious. In The Great Frontier, Webb writes, When an abundance
of wealth percolated into the Metropolis, it seeped to the humble people, making them less humble
and more demanding. It seemed that life was actually better during the humbling times where money
was scarce. The life on the frontier was not always easy, but it was

Zombie Apocalypse Disasters
There are all kinds of emergencies that we can prepare for; a zombie apocalypse is one of them.
Zombies may be fictional, but natural disasters are a very real concern in which we would take the
same precautions. To prepare for those kinds of outbreaks, you should have a well structured plan.
During a disaster such as a zombie apocalypse, shelter is a vital part in surviving. With zombies
running rampant across the city, we must have a safe and secure shelter for all citizens to hide out until
the apocalypse is over. With that being said, what kind of building should we provide, and where
should these types of shelters be placed? These buildings will be placed underground, so that the
zombies are unable to reach the citizens and resources we have packed inside. To enter these types of
buildings, all people will have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Cell phones and the internet will quickly become useless. This leaves Amateur Radios as the most
reliable form of communication in a disaster. Amateur Radios, also known as ham radios, are able to

these, you can communicate with other groups that are functioning far away from you. There is also a
list of emergency radio frequencies that are extremely useful in case of a disaster. For example,
frequency 39.46 is use or state police forces, 154.28 is used for the fire department, and 462.675 is
used for a General Mobile Radio Service. This can also be used to communicate with other groups and
task forces within the town. It is possible to do so by sending inter departmental messages to the
frequencies above. By sending these messages you can not only communicate to the leaders of each
group, but can also communicate to the public. Communication is a vital resource to use in the

29 November, 2014 Overfishing of The Atlantic Bluefin Tuna
By Fabian Durazo
Abstract
The main purpose for this research is to explicit what effect humans have had and will have on the
blue fin tuna. The Atlantic bluefin tuna is one of the largest, fastest, and most gorgeously colored of all
the world s fishes. The blue fin tuna unfortunately however, has been facing a constant and dramatic
decline in their species. With overfishing, their numbers have dropped down to critically low levels. It
is said that throughout several years of overfishing, that the Bluefin Tuna has dropped ninety seven

The bluefin population has declined at a steady rate for several years and despite some measures being
taken to manage the population in the Atlantic, it still remains to be excessively hunted. The species is
prized by both wealthy sushi consumers due to its rich, fatty flesh and by fishermen who can sell a
single catch for tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars. Currently, this combination has brought the
species to the brink of extinction, with environmentalists claiming the species has no chance to
recover if existing fishing practices are allowed to continue. The issue of the declining bluefin
population is not simply the dismissal of catch limits, but also the ways in which fish are caught. One
of the most wasteful fishing techniques is the use of surface longlines. These lines reach up to forty
miles in length with baited hooks attached along the lines. The lines are deployed in spawning areas
where hundreds of bluefin are caught along with other non target species every year. Conservationist
groups have encouraged the National Marine Fisheries Service to ban the use of longlines in the Gulf
during spawning season to give stocks time to recover. In addition to longlines, purse seining is
another wasteful, yet commonly used, fishing technique. This involves the release of a

My Music Experience
As a young boy, I have always had an interest in Music. When my family would go on trips and
vacations out of state I would listen to music on the car radio and try to memorize all the lyrics,
rhythms, tempos, and distinct sounds of the instruments. The first music experience was at the
elementary M.E Pearson. When you got to the Fourth grade, the school allowed students to participate
in orchestra and gave them the opportunity to learn how to play certain instruments. As I walked into
that small trailer and heard the sounds, saw the articulation and how everyone moved as one. I was
flabbergasted and knew instantly this is want I wanted to do. Starting Orchestra, I was horrible and I
didn t learn how to properly play my first instrument, the cello, until the beginning of sixth grade. As
much as I was horrible, orchestra was a positive impact on my life and pushed me to achieve goals.
Going down the hall past Mr. Curry s class, bubble and bumpers, and patiently waiting outside the
orchestra room at M.E Pearson Elementary were the highlights of each day from fourth to fifth grade.
During that time of practice our class would practice articulation, posture, and how to read notes until
the bell rang and would let the school know it was time to go home. As boring as it got sometimes, I
was always filled with joy and prepared for orchestra the next day. The first time trying out for State
was the most intense experience I ever had. Out of all the experiences I have created with

Minority groups in the community are quoted collectively, as one cannot stand alone as a reliable

Responsibility In Chronicle Of A Death Foretold
Where Does Ultimate Responsibility lie for the death of Santiago Nasar, in Chronicle of a Death

On the day they were going to kill him [1], is the opening to Chronicle of a Death Foretold, by Gabriel
Marquez, is a novella written in the form of a pseudo journalistic reconstruction;, in which the reader
is told about the murder death from the first line. Here comes the importance of the theme of
responsibility; we, along with the narrator, work backwards to unravel the reasons and the mysteries
behind the murder. However, we must differentiate between two opposite aspects of this theme;
responsibility and action. Some characters were prominently conventionally responsible for the death
of Santiago, through their actions. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, they both determined, not to mention it to the latter. It could be perceived that she, as a
young woman, just stepping into the world of adolescence, was not yet able define her feelings
towards Santiago. The narrator comments that, (Divina) didn t warn him because she was nothing but
a frightened child at the time, incapable of a decision of her own. She was unclear about her feelings
towards him and permitted her mother to decide for her. However, Divina s main contribution to the
theme of responsibility arises at the end of the novella. She led Plácida Linero, into locking the door,
deeming believing that she had seen Santiago had gone up to his room. Yet, in fact the latter, was
assaulted by the Vicario twins, in front of his house and the narrator comments that, (he) only lacked a
few seconds to get in when the door closed. (Marquez, P.119) Despite, the fact that her illusion sounds
implausible, Divina confirms that she had seen him come inside the house, It was a very clear vision
(Marquez, P.118). We, as the readers are left with no option but to believe her.
Two other characters; LeonardoLeandro Pornoy and Colonel Aponte can be both held responsible for
the murder, they had equivalent chances to save Santiago s life. LeonardoLeandro Pornoy, the

The journal article addresses the issue of undergraduate women using slut shaming and the actual
reason women participate in it.
2. The theory being tested in the article is that women participate in slut shaming as a way for them to
distance or separate themselves from other women. The reason they separate themselves is a way for
women to categorize other women into different statuses and a way for themselves to maintain their
own status. The status classes women are categorized in are linked to the social class they are a part
of. Slut shaming among women is not necessarily based on their sexual acts, but of the way they act as
a woman. The theory also states that slut shaming is also a result of male dominance and female
submission. The slut label was created by men due to a double standard created by society. The double
standard is that men are expected to act upon their sexual desires regardless of being in a relationship
or having any emotional connection with the person they re engaging that sexual act with all while
women are only allowed to participate in sexual activities if they are in a loving and committed
relationship. However, if

Essay On The History Of The World In 6 Glasses
As we read The History of the World in 6 Glasses by Tom Standage, we see the massive impact that
certain drinks had on history. These drinks could do everything from controlling trade to influencing
government. Their power was endless for one sole reason: demand. All three of these commodities
caused major shifts in power. Each of the drinks presented a different type of power. Rum influences
the pattern of trade, coffee enhanced the power of intellect, and tea worked with politics to create a in
shift power. All three of these powers are important in world history and still have an effect on the
world today. Rum was a drink used by the Americans as a way of gaining power through trade. A shift
in power is seen as the slave owners began using rum to trade for slaves. The slave owners would
trade rum for people and that gave them more manpower and economic power. Slaves were also
encouraged to become dependent on regular rations of rum to coax them through ... Show more

By the end of the 1700 s tea was the biggest drink in the British Empire. Tea started as a drink for the
wealthy, but eventually became a drink for all classes. The massive profits that were being made off of
selling tea lead to its political power in the British Empire. The political power that was gained with
tea wasn t for the drink itself was for the company selling the tea: the East India Tea Company. The
East India Tea Company was selling tea all over the world and was at some points, bringing in as
much profits as Britain was in taxes. Its overwhelming growth led to the company obtaining what they
wanted with the government. The company had a serious amount of influence in parliament. The East
India Tea Company helped tea secure its footing and once it started there was no stopping. Tea was
able to create a power shift, for it made a fortune for the East India Tea Company and all this money
led to power. It lead to power

Internship At National Load Despatch Centre ( Nldc ),...
ABSTRACT
Internship at National Load Despatch Centre (NLDC), Power System Operation Corporation Ltd can
be divided into two periods. In starting weeks, I get the overview of Indian power sector, understood
the Indian power grid, functions of NLDC and many technical terms but later the project Short Term
Load Forecasting(STLF) using ANN Techniques was assigned to me. I have to forecast the load for
Delhi using ANN Technique.
Load forecasting is the technique for prediction of electrical load. It is much need for a generating
company to know about the market load demand in a deregulated market for generating near to
accurate power. If the generation is not sufficient to fulfill the demand, there would be problem of
irregular supply and in case of excess generation the generating company will have to bear the loss.
There are various factors which influence the behavior of the consumer load. These factors can be
categorized as Time factor, weather, economy and random disturbances. Accurate forecasting can
maximize the profit of producers and for consumers, it can maximize their utilities. STLF plays an
important role in electric power system operation and planning. An accurate load forecasting not only
reduces the generation cost in a power system, but also provides a good principle of effective
operation. It is trained using back propagation algorithm and tested. The results obtained from neural
network are presented and the results show that the neural network based

Cultures Of Anglo-Saxon And Modern Society
There are many known periods that we know lead to the development of the modern era and the Anglo
Saxon period is the oldest known period of time that had a complex culture with stable government,
art and literature. This period is a time filled with great advancements and discoveries in government,
religion, literature, and art. Cultures of Anglo Saxon society and modern society have many
similarities as well as differences. There are many differences between this period and the modern era
we live in today in terms of politics, social climate, values, social hierarchy, the role of women,
military, government and language. In this essay, I am going to focus on the differences of the two
periods in terms of values, role of women and language in the society. Some of the most common
values during the Anglo Saxon period include courage, loyalty and generosity. The Anglo Saxon era
was almost always in the state of war which is why it is a time when fighting is valued more than
working things out. This meant that heroes of this period fought for fame, glory, and pride. Heroes
were expected to boast. Beowulf, the best symbol for Anglo Saxon heroes, proves this by volunteering
to fight the monster just because he was bored and wanted to do something he can brag about. In the
story, Beowulf boasts of his bravery by talking about his past battles and victories. Beowulf basically
acts more for his own glory than for the general well being to his people. While in our modern period,

Distress Thermometer
Distress is an unpleasant emotional experience of a psychological, social and/or spiritual nature that
might interfere with the ability to cope effectively with cancer, its physical symptoms and the
treatment that occurs, before, during and/or after the diagnosis (NCCN, 2003). In the Psychosocial
aspect of cancer patients and their diagnosis, the distress thermometer is a tool that can help both the
patients and staff in beginning a conversation with each other about difficulty going on before or after
a cancer diagnosis. People who are at a higher risk of heightened distress, are people with subordinate
cancer diagnosis, in reoccurring cancer patients, in younger patients, and in married people.
There are many potential consequences that can occur when patients are not screened for distress.
Consequences are and not limited to poorer faithfulness to management advices, worse satisfaction
with care and worse quality of life (Jacobsen lee, 2007). However, the benefits of using a distress
thermometer with cancer patients is that psychosocial technicians can see the amount ... Show more

If a patient scores 5 7 the score indicates that the patient is experiencing some sort of distress that
might be affecting the quality of life and needs to use the additional resources to assist them and if a
patient scores 8 10 the score indicates that the patient is suffering from high levels of distress and it
can become difficult for the person to make decisions and should be referred to rigorous treatment
immediately to heighten the quality of life. In my opinion, the cutoff score for distress should stay the
same for now until because psychosocial resources are so limited that it should only be presented to
people who are really in need for the help. The cutoff score should also stay the same until there is a
certain way to limit the number of false positives that

How Is Romeo And Juliet Selfish
I do love nothing in the world so much as you.. William Shakespeare. Many mothers feel this way for
their children, they show infinite love for their children and would risk their lives for them. This is not
the case in William Shakespeare s playwright, The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet. Lady Montague and
Lady Capulet do not show supportive love for their children, and they never risk anything for them.
Romeo and Juliet, snuck out to express their love for each other because their mothers were too selfish
to let them be together. Although each mother is selfish, weak, and unable to understand their child,
Lady Capulet and Lady Montague ultimately never show strong affection for their children.
Lady Capulet and Lady Montague are characterized ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In act three, Lady Capulet does not care if Juliet is happy with her husband, she just wants Juliet to get
married. An example of this is, Marry, my child, early next Thursday morn The gallant young, and
noble gentleman, The County Paris, at Saint Peter s Church. Shall happily make thee a joyful bride.
(3.3.115) When she says it will make Juliet happy to marry Paris she is wrong because she does not
know who is going to make Juliet happy. Additionally, when Juliet says she does not want to marry
Paris Lady Capulet says that she can deal with her father. This is weak because Lady Capulet does not
care to see if Juliet is happy she just wants what is best for her. Lady Montague is weak because she
does not make an effort to talk to Romeo about anything he is doing at the time. After Romeo has slain
Tybalt, Lady Montague does not talk to Romeo to comfort him or to ask him if he is ok. Also, at the
end of the play, after Romeo kills himself, she does not think she has anything else to live for so she
kills herself. This is weak because she could have tried to prevent this tragedy from happening. All in
all, Lady Montague and Lady Capulet are weak because if they would pay more attention these
terrible things will not happen to their

Main Motives For The Invasion Of Iraq
What were the main motives for the Invasion of Iraq in 2003?
This project argues that there were many more complex reasons for Tony Blair s 2003 invasion of
Iraq, other than the war on terror, the need to find weapons of mass destruction (WMD) and to free the
Iraqi people from the tyranny of Saddam Hussain as the government implied. Factors such as the vast
amounts of crude oil that the coastal areas of the Persian Gulf contains (which includes a large part of
Iraq s coast) and the need to control future oil supplies was the overall determining factor on going to
Iraq. There was also a need to stay allied with the US (which has been deeply ingrained in UK foreign
policy since the Suez Crisis of 1956) and help secure US and in turn UK military presence in the
middle east.
Methodology
Primarily, it would be imperative to establish the history of this conflict and exactly how it got to the
point of war not only from Blair s point of view but also from the other generally considered reasons,
mainly Oil and the US. Secondary sources such as Iraq between Occupations: Perspectives from 1920
to the Present (Zeidel, Baram and Rhode, 2010), Britain and the Middle East in the 9/11 Era (Hollis,
2010) and Blair s Just War: Iraq and the Illusion of Morality (Lee, 2011) are examined. There are a
few books that discuss the Anglo American relationship, the best of which are; Blair s Britain 1997
2007 (Seldon, 2007) and The Special Relationship, A Political History of Anglo American

Factory Act Of 1800 Dbq Analysis
Were Political or Economic Revolutions the Most Impacting on Society?
All throughout history, there have been plenty of revolutions. They have had both negative and
positive impacts on society and the economy. The Industrial Revolution by far, has been the most
impacting on the world. During the revolution, ingenious inventions helped to shape the revolution
and influence modern technology. As well as these inventions, the Factory Act of 1833 was passed,
which improved working conditions for children laboring in factories. In addition to these two things,
a new time standard was created that the whole country of Britain would eventually run on. In
contrast, some people believe political revolutions, like the Haitian and French, were more evolving.

Britain today runs on GMT, which stands for Greenwich Mean Time. The time is exactly five hours
ahead of the time it is in Connecticut, which runs on EST, or Eastern Standard Time. The countries:
United Kingdom, France, Spain, Algeria, Mali, Ghana are all in the GMT time zone. For these
countries, this means the line located on the Greenwich Meridian runs through them. During the
Industrial Revolution, Britain decided it wanted to set a standard time that would be followed by
everyone. It was the first country to do this. Railways in Britain, ...cared most about the
inconsistencies of local mean time, and they forced a uniform time on the country, (Document 7). The
country felt compelled to adapt a new standard of time, after railway workers expressed complaints of
inconvenience. This standard of time was known as, London Time. Furthermore, in November 1840,
the Great Western Railway was the first to follow London Time, which eventually influenced other
railways to do the same. By 1847, the majority of railways ran on London Time (Document 7).
Moreover, it was later approved that all stations be adopted to this new unit of time, known as GMT.
This recommendation was made on September 22, 1847, by the Railway Clearing House, which
eventually received approval from the General Post Office (Document 7). This was much more
convenient for railways, as they could have a

Santa Sabina Research Paper
The principal architectural elements of this design are the three aisled basilica with no transepts. The
basilica is an axially planned church with a long nave, side aisles, and an apse for the altar. Santa
Sabina also has a long, tall, broad nave, following an axial plan. The spolia are the tall slender
columns. Santa Sabina has windows made not of glass, but of selenite, a type of transparent and
colorless gypsum. Santa Sabina also has a flat wooden roof, coffered ceiling, and thin walls
supporting a light roof. As an early Christian basilica, Santa Sabina has thin walls supporting wooden
roofs with coffered ceilings. Lastly, Santa Sabina has a bare exterior with a sensitively decorated
interior, which represents the Christian whose exterior may not be very attractive, but whose interior
soul is gorgeous. Santa Sabina is made from brick and stone. ... Show more content on

Early Christian art has several features which are adapted from Roman elements. Santa Sabina
employed several Roman columns from Pagan temples. This type of reuse of architectural or
sculptural elements is known as spolia. Early Christian churches also came in two ways, both of which
were inspired by Roman architecture. Santa Sabina is an example of the more numerous axially
planned building, which has a long nave focusing on an apse. Early Christian basilicas, just like in
Santa Sabina, had thin walls supporting wooden roofs with coffered ceilings. Another example of an
element of the Christian design which was adapted from non Christian sources are the spolia, or tall
slender columns. Spolia is the reuse of architectural or sculptural places in buildings generally
different from their original contexts. These were taken from the Temple of Juno in Rome and erected
on the site of Santa Sabina. This serves as a statement of the triumph of Christianity over

First-Year Writing Project Analysis
This proposal explores how hip hop can help accomplish the CCCC s stated goals on multiple
discourses and community engagement. Hip hop can serve as a valuable tool to help them implement
those goals at the University of Nevada, Reno s core writing program. Our analysis will focus on
using hip hop to broaden perspectives included in academic conversations and to empower students to
write as members of their community. While we understand that hip hop may be a controversial genre
to include in the core writing curriculum, we propose that its inclusion is not at odds with both the
CCCC s and UNR s core writing program, but can in fact be a valuable asset towards reaching those
goals. We believe that first year writing students will benefit from ... Show more content on

Kendrick is one of the most popular rappers working right now, and his participation in that kind of
discussion illustrates that his genre shouldn t preclude him from being taken seriously. We find
ourselves in a time no less rich with artistic genius of all kinds, and Fanon s poignant expression of the
connection between art and the life it seeks to articulate should serve as a reminder not to forget that
art of all kinds, and from all kinds, can help us determine and express truth. Nowhere is that lesson
more vital than in hip hop, and its relationship with academia. Currently, while a relationship between
them seems to at least exist, rap is treated as a novelty, perhaps being taught in a upper division

It is recommended that detention facilities have to undergo mandatory inspections to make sure that
they are upholding the basic human rights of the detainees. If a facility fails the inspection then they
are forced to close until they can prove that they are providing all occupants with the same fairness

As per the Convention on the Rights of the Child, which Australia is in fact a party of, be implemented

Introduction
The purpose of this report is to dig deeper into abuse, not just physical abuse but mental as well, that
children receive while they are being detained in mandatory dentation for prolonged periods in places
such as Nauru. Through secondary sources the information that was retrieved was abundant about The
Forgotten Children (Australian Human Rights Commission, 2014) and the abuse and violence that
they are witnessing every day.
The background and scope into this project is that children are being abused in refugee camps and it is
mostly going unnoticed by the public. Doctors are saying that the children that they have seen from
camps like Nauru are some of the most traumatized children that they have seen in over 50 years of
combined experience (Elliot 2016, cited in Scott and Gregory, 2016).
A number of secondary sources were used from the 2014 report

Car Prowls
After taking a look at all the data for the past and more current information I have noticed an increase
in car prowls in northeast Portland. This includes the area from I 205, Airport Way to 122nd and
including Sandy Blvd and Marine Drive. Gathering information on the statistics of this location it
appears that larceny and motor vehicle theft are the most commons types of property crimes in this
area. I personally know this location and is mostly made up of business complexes, poor
neighborhoods surrounding this location and a lot of homeless people that camp or stay around these
areas especially at night. During the day this location is very busy and a lot of people are in this area,
however at night it s like a ghost town with very ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is also the case in this Portland location and the focus should be on the location and the victims
because as they discussed in Texas if they arrested on offender another will take its place, it would not
be very effective. After looking at the PSU crime data I have noticed that car prowls occurs throughout
the year, overall declining in Portland overall, but in the area between 122nd Ave and I 205 around
Airport Way based on the heat map from 1995 to 2013 car prowls have increased or well above
average at this location(PSU, 2017). Also overall these crimes occurred after dark mostly every day
between 6pm to 2am(PSU, 2017). Focusing on victims would also be important even though we don t
have any data in Portland about victims, in the Texas model they identified that were part of the
problem because they left cars unlocked, left windows open and often left valuables in plain site
where offenders could see inside. This could also be applied to Portland because if offenders don t see
anything of value worth while in your car and if it s secure they would be less likely to break into that
car.
In response to this problem the Texas Police Department first focused on the victim side of the Crime
Triangle. In an effort to educate and make it aware to the victims that they are possible targets. What
they did was

  • 2. Kindergarten In Kindergarten Kindergarten in the 1870s was a place for the middle class children in Canada. However, the late into the 19th century kindergarten changed. It went from being a novel childrearing alternative for the educated middle classes and a popular means of maintaining cultural heritage among German immigrants, to becoming a widespread form of upper and middle class women s philanthropic work with poor children and an integral part of many public school systems (Lazerson, 1973 from Dehli, 2014, p. 15). In the 1870s, there were only dozens of kindergartens. There were 400 kindergarten schools in 1880s. The change was likely due to the increase in jobs and industrial capitalism. Kindergartens became a place to help the poor and immigrant urban children, and to improve such children s families and communities (Dehli, 2014, p. 14). In addition, the educators were usually middle class and upper class women. While there was a rise to industrial capitalism, there was a rise to women s profession. In the 1870s and 1880s during the weekdays, thousands of three to five year old children gathered in churches, houses, and schools and engaged in games, songs, stories, and many more. When the educators were not caring for the children over the weekends the educators visited children s homes and organized meetings with mothers that could be educators, volunteers, and contributors to the ECE community. They also promoted kindergarten through their writings, lectures, fundraising, and lobbying. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Models Of Emotional Intelligence 1.5 EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE The term Emotional Intelligence was coined and defined by Salovey and Mayer (1990). Emotional intelligence can be defined as the ability to monitor one s own and other people s emotions, to discriminate between different emotions and label them appropriately and to use emotional information to guide thinking and behaviour. Emotional intelligence also reflects abilities to join intelligence, empathy and emotions to enhance thought and understanding of interpersonal dynamics. Despite its recent debut, there are already a number of definitions of EI. These conceptualizations can be divided into two streams: ability models in which EI is defined as a set of cognitive abilities in emotional versus mixed trait models that incorporate a wide range of personality characteristics and other. 1.5.1EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE MODELS Spielberger (2004) states there are currently three major conceptual models of emotional intelligence: (1) The Salovey Mayer model (2) The Goleman model (3) The Trait model Salovey and Mayer: An Ability Model of ... This is possible through the use of a dual lens endoscope with two high resolution cameras. The image is fed through two independent vision channels that then run through an image processing stabilising computer system. The computer reduces the noise of the image and enhances the edges of the objects seen. Billions of taxpayer dollars were committed last year to rescuing firms such as Citigroup and the American International Group (AIG). Earlier this year, several companies who received Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP) assistance were awarding top executives with extravagant bonuses. According to the Wall Street Journal, the U.S. government lent $238 billion in TARP taxpayer funds to almost 700 banks; 44 of these banks have repaid a $71 billion (Johnston, para 6). In March 2010, AIG is scheduled to distribute yet another $198 million in bonuses to its financial products employees largely seen as responsible for the firm s failure (Collins, para 11). This will result in almost $400 million in bonus payments since receiving government assistance (Collins, para 11). As mentioned previously, AIG does not have a moral right to these bonuses. It would be similar to someone taking an elaborate vacation just before filing for bankruptcy and expecting the government to finance his unnecessary expense. It presents a vision of society as a community whose members are joined in the shared pursuit of values and goals they hold in common (Markkula, para 12). This Approach calls attention to the conditions that are important to the common welfare of everyone. The principle states: What is ethical is what advances the common good (Markkula, para 12). The common goal when considering the bailout is a stable economy. What remains unanswered is why some financial institutions, such as JPMorgan Chase and Goldman Sachs, were helped with TARP funds while other banks, such as Bear Stearns and Lehman Brothers, were allowed to ... How To Be Learned In My Antonia The American West: Things Learned from My Antonia The story, My Antonia by Willa Cather holds many historically accurate information; especially about the way of life on the Nebraska frontier. Through the Adventures of Jim and Antonia there is much to be learned about the American West. Be it the hardships of winter, the monetary struggles of immigrants into the land, the trials of farming, or humble living of everyday citizens; the American West had plenty of learning opportunities. These learning opportunities were not only for people of that time, but for people even today in this era. Winters of the American west were extremely difficult, constant storms, food shortages and freezing temperatures; all of which made the winters so trying. In Dee Brown s Book, The American West on page 152 she says, Homesteaders who refused to quit and they were in the majority were faced with a hard winter. Many had no money, no credit, no food; some had no fuel or clothing. The frontier was no place to be during the cold and bitter winter months. In The Great Frontier, Webb writes, When an abundance of wealth percolated into the Metropolis, it seeped to the humble people, making them less humble and more demanding. During a disaster such as a zombie apocalypse, shelter is a vital part in surviving. With zombies running rampant across the city, we must have a safe and secure shelter for all citizens to hide out until the apocalypse is over. With that being said, what kind of building should we provide, and where should these types of shelters be placed? The Atlantic bluefin tuna is one of the largest, fastest, and most gorgeously colored of all the world s fishes. The blue fin tuna unfortunately however, has been facing a constant and dramatic decline in their species. With overfishing, their numbers have dropped down to critically low levels. The bluefin population has declined at a steady rate for several years and despite some measures being taken to manage the population in the Atlantic, it still remains to be excessively hunted. The species is prized by both wealthy sushi consumers due to its rich, fatty flesh and by fishermen who can sell a single catch for tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars. Currently, this combination has brought the species to the brink of extinction, with environmentalists claiming the species has no chance to recover if existing fishing practices are allowed to continue. The issue of the declining bluefin population is not simply the dismissal of catch limits, but also the ways in which fish are caught. One of the most wasteful fishing techniques is the use of surface longlines. These lines reach up to forty miles in length with baited hooks attached along the lines. The lines are deployed in spawning areas where hundreds of bluefin are caught along with other non target species every year. Conservationist groups have encouraged the National Marine Fisheries Service to ban the use of longlines in the Gulf during spawning season to give stocks time to recover. In addition to longlines, purse seining is another wasteful, yet commonly used, fishing technique. This involves the release of a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

When my family would go on trips and vacations out of state I would listen to music on the car radio and try to memorize all the lyrics, rhythms, tempos, and distinct sounds of the instruments. The first music experience was at the elementary M.E Pearson. When you got to the Fourth grade, the school allowed students to participate in orchestra and gave them the opportunity to learn how to play certain instruments. As I walked into that small trailer and heard the sounds, saw the articulation and how everyone moved as one. I was flabbergasted and knew instantly this is want I wanted to do. Starting Orchestra, I was horrible and I didn t learn how to properly play my first instrument, the cello, until the beginning of sixth grade. The journal article addresses the issue of undergraduate women using slut shaming and the actual reason women participate in it. 2. The theory being tested in the article is that women participate in slut shaming as a way for them to distance or separate themselves from other women. The reason they separate themselves is a way for women to categorize other women into different statuses and a way for themselves to maintain their own status. The status classes women are categorized in are linked to the social class they are a part of. Slut shaming among women is not necessarily based on their sexual acts, but of the way they act as a woman. The theory also states that slut shaming is also a result of male dominance and female submission. The slut label was created by men due to a double standard created by society. The double standard is that men are expected to act upon their sexual desires regardless of being in a relationship or having any emotional connection with the person they re engaging that sexual act with all while women are only allowed to participate in sexual activities if they are in a loving and committed relationship. In starting weeks, I get the overview of Indian power sector, understood the Indian power grid, functions of NLDC and many technical terms but later the project Short Term Load Forecasting(STLF) using ANN Techniques was assigned to me. I have to forecast the load for Delhi using ANN Technique. Load forecasting is the technique for prediction of electrical load. It is much need for a generating company to know about the market load demand in a deregulated market for generating near to accurate power. If the generation is not sufficient to fulfill the demand, there would be problem of irregular supply and in case of excess generation the generating company will have to bear the loss. There are various factors which influence the behavior of the consumer load. These factors can be categorized as Time factor, weather, economy and random disturbances. Accurate forecasting can maximize the profit of producers and for consumers, it can maximize their utilities. STLF plays an important role in electric power system operation and planning. An accurate load forecasting not only reduces the generation cost in a power system, but also provides a good principle of effective operation. It is trained using back propagation algorithm and tested. The results obtained from neural network are presented and the results show that the neural network based ... Cultures of Anglo Saxon society and modern society have many similarities as well as differences. There are many differences between this period and the modern era we live in today in terms of politics, social climate, values, social hierarchy, the role of women, military, government and language. In this essay, I am going to focus on the differences of the two periods in terms of values, role of women and language in the society. Some of the most common values during the Anglo Saxon period include courage, loyalty and generosity. The Anglo Saxon era was almost always in the state of war which is why it is a time when fighting is valued more than working things out. This meant that heroes of this period fought for fame, glory, and pride. Heroes were expected to boast. Beowulf, the best symbol for Anglo Saxon heroes, proves this by volunteering to fight the monster just because he was bored and wanted to do something he can brag about. In the story, Beowulf boasts of his bravery by talking about his past battles and victories. Beowulf basically acts more for his own glory than for the general well being to his people. This project argues that there were many more complex reasons for Tony Blair s 2003 invasion of Iraq, other than the war on terror, the need to find weapons of mass destruction (WMD) and to free the Iraqi people from the tyranny of Saddam Hussain as the government implied. Factors such as the vast amounts of crude oil that the coastal areas of the Persian Gulf contains (which includes a large part of Iraq s coast) and the need to control future oil supplies was the overall determining factor on going to Iraq. There was also a need to stay allied with the US (which has been deeply ingrained in UK foreign policy since the Suez Crisis of 1956) and help secure US and in turn UK military presence in the middle east. • 35. Car Prowls After taking a look at all the data for the past and more current information I have noticed an increase in car prowls in northeast Portland. In response to this problem the Texas Police Department first focused on the victim side of the Crime Triangle. In an effort to educate and make it aware to the victims that they are possible targets. What they did was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
