Open-Wheel Racing History
The United States Auto Club (USAC) began in the 1950s; however, because of promotion concerns,
many team owners left in search of other league opportunities; and it was at this time in 1978,
Championship Automobile Racing Teams began. This type of racing was the forum for open–wheel
racing in the United States and for 17 years led open–wheel racing. Anton H. "Tony" George, owner
of the Indianapolis 500 believed CART was focusing too much on foreign popularity versus the
United States; therefore, the creation of the open–wheel league in 1996 called the Indy Racing
League (Ferrell & Hartline, 2014). The Indianapolis Racing League would hold an event once a year
and teams had to choose which league they would be a part of because you could only

The Impact Of Sports On Women's Sports
Traditionally men have dominated the world of sports however in recent year's women's sports have
become popular and with their new found popularity, women's sports have evolved into marketable
leagues of their own. Although women's sports took a huge leap forward, women players still don't
receive the same financial compensation for playing the same sports in the same arenas as their male
counterparts. In Purse Snatching by Donna Lopiano, she points out sexism may have a huge effect
on this financial discrepancy between women and men athletes. Analyzing sports economics may
point to a different reason why women are receiving such a compensation disparity.
Women sports have come a long way, since the days when women were only allowed to watch.
"The past three decades have witnessed a steady growth in women 's sports programs in America
along with a remarkable increase in the number of women athletes (Daniel Frankl 2)" From an early
age women were thought to be "Lady Like"; they are told not to get all sweaty and dirty. Over 200
years later since Maud Watson stepped on the tennis courts of Wimbledon (Sports Media digest 3);
women now compete in all types and levels of sports from softball to National racing. Soccer fans
saw Mia Hamm become the face of Women's soccer around the world , Venus and Serena Williams

IndyCar can prove to its potential sponsors that its events are valuable by teaming up with
companies who could sell products at the live events or on commercial breaks during the races. One
important thing that hurts IndyCar is the fact that television ratings and live event attendance is
steadily going down. But instead of having as seen on television products they could sell exclusive
products at their events, or special editions of already existing products. There are several sponsors
that could mutually benefit from working together such as new products that need an investment

the success and financial gains women have reached in sports, Women are still underpaid when
compared to male athletes. Lopiano complains that there's too much of a salaries gap between man

has been confronted is the barrier to being treated equally when it comes to money" (Lopiano 1).
Most people will say women's tennis matches are more exciting than men's matches; men's victory
purses are still considerably higher than women's victory purses. Top women tennis players earned

History Of Open Wheel Racing
The history of open–wheel racing in the United States is a story of incredible success and terrible
failure. The story can be seen to have started in 1978 with the formation of the Championship Auto
Racing Team or CART. The league was founded by several racing teams who were dissatisfied with
the way open–wheel racing was being handled. CART experienced tremendous success for a
number of years and represented the most popular form of motor sports in the United States. The
wheels on the success of CART racing began to come off when Anton "Tony" George, the president
of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway began to express concerns with how CART was operating.
George complained that the CART league held too many races in foreign countries. He also
expressed concern that CART was focusing on road races instead of oval tracks. He also felt that
CART focused on too heavily on promoting foreign drivers. As a result of his dissatisfaction with
CART, George began the Indy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of the initial problems was that racing teams had to choose between remaining in the CART
league or jumping ship to the IRL. The competition between the two leagues resulted in legal battles
of the use of the term "Indy car." CART had licensed the term. The legal battles ended with a
judgement that neither league could use the term until December 31, 2002. The legal bickering
between the two leagues did nothing to attract fans to their races. Instead it proved to be a
distraction for fans who began to lose interest in both leagues. It was during this time that stock car
racing began its rise in popularity. Open–wheel racing suffered another setback when major
sponsors like Honda, Toyota, and FedEx pulled their participation. With two separate open–wheel
racing leagues the market became segmented and both leagues struggled to gain major sponsors

Dale Earnhardt and Stock Car Racing
Over 50 years ago a new sport was introduced. This sport was stock car racing. The organization
that sponsors stock car racing is known as National Association of Stock Car Racing, NASCAR.
The driver that is identifiable with NASCAR is definitely Dale Earnhardt. Over the years there have
been many great stock car racers from Cale Yarborough to Richard Petty and Davy Allison, but no
other name was better known than Dale Earnhardt. Whether on the track or in the crowds, there is
no possible way a person can look without seeing a black number three or some other Earnhardt
insignia. In first or last place, victory circle or behind the wall, the black GM Goodwrench

"Dale got married at age seventeen. He married his high school sweetheart. They had a lot of
problems in their marriage. With Earnhardt trying to get into racing and his wife trying to further her
education they decided to get a divorce. Dale was twenty–four when they got divorced."(1:78) Dale
remarried but that did not last long. His second wife could not handle being in the public eye. Dale
decided to try getting married for the third time. This time he married a woman he met at a
racetrack. Her name was Teresa. Through his three marriages Dale had three kids. Their names are
Dale Jr., Kerry, and Kelly. The most well known of the three is Dale Jr. "Dale Jr. is a Winston Cup

Series championship."(5:1). Dale Sr. owned 3 racecars in Winston Cup. He owned Dale Jr.'s car,
Michael Waltrip's car, and Steve Park's car. " There was never one complaint about how Dale ran

The Safety Of Motor Sports
Safety in Motor Sports Motor sporting is particularly a spectacular as well as an exciting game that
provides intense enjoyment for both the competitors and the spectators. The game can take various
forms ranging from large circuit events attracting thousands of viewers, to grass track competitions
in a local farmer's fields usually attended by competitors along with their families. Organizers for
motor sports games also range from Fortune 500 companies to small motor clubs and other
governing bodies. Majority of the organizing members are involved simply for the fun of it. The
sport also has a few governing bodies. Majority of sport events are conducted under the strict
guideline provided by the governing bodies comprised of members rich in experience and endowed
with expertise in motor sport safety. They usually provide comprehensive practical counsel and
assistance the appliance of these guidelines in individual cases. The primary focus of this paper is on
the safety in the motor sport. Motorsport is merely over a century old, only a few years in play and
younger that the actual automobile. Besides the precautions taken to safeguard spectators, only little
efforts had been put to protect motorsport participants from fatalities or serious injuries caused by
accidents until in the dawn of 1960s. Although drivers raced primarily for the game's glory than for
monetary rewards, and automobile manufacturers contributed as part of their R&D efforts than for

Let's look into Formula One, the foundation of Formula One began in 1946 with the Federation

must comply with. Formula One uses the points systems and various styles have been in place. The
current systems dates back to 2010 and awards the top 10 cars points there was talk about starting
Formula One back in the 1930's but World War II began and Formula One was placed on hold.
Originally there were people who wanted a driver's championship, and this did not take place till
1950 in Silverstone. One month earlier the first F1 race had taken place in PAU. Formula One unlike
the other styles of racing only had a few championship races. This changed more in 1983, when fuel
cost and the economy predicted a part of how the races would be ran.
Our most recent Formula One cars are designed with a single seat open wheel racer. They are built
mainly from carbon filter composites. In our last season cars were powered by 1.6 litre turbocharged
v–6 hybrid engines. Many of these were Ferrari, Renault and Mercedes Benz. Most racing teams are
cautious giving out information about their engine, car and performance. There are technical

Marketing Goal : Indianapolis Sports
Marketing Goal
Indianapolis has become a sports' mecca. Ample options of sport have created an enormous market
for the community and visitors to experience. One downfall of being in Indianapolis is the enormous
amount of sport market competition. Entering into the sports market in Indianapolis can create an
underdog feeling to an already competitive market share. Indy Fuel has to take the necessary steps
in order to gain a competitive advantage from established organizations and not let history repeat
itself. With Indy Fuel being in its third year, they are slowly starting to catch the attention of the
Indianapolis community and work towards creating a passion for hockey in a state that is defined by

Failing to post a winning record in four seasons, the team soon departed ("The History").
In 1979–1980, the city welcomed the Indianapolis Checkers. The Checkers lasted three more
seasons before relocating to Denver. Indianapolis went without professional hockey for a year
before the Indiana Ice arrived in 1988–89. The Ice brought the return of the Turner Cup to
Indianapolis for the first time since the Chiefs won it back in 1958. The 1998–99 season began to
show signs of struggle for the IHL, prompting a switch to the Central Hockey League. Continuing to
play until 2003–04, the Indiana Ice decided it was time to fold, bringing an end to professional
hockey in Indianapolis ("The History").
A 10–year gap of hockey was not enough to discourage owner Jim Hallett from bringing hockey

The Pros And Cons Of The Denny Car Series
Today's Indy Car series seems to be "split equally between oval races and road/street races",
according to USA Today (Ryan, N. (2011). "The Indy Racing League was an all–oval series at its
1996 inception, but gradually has moved toward a more balanced schedule since it began adding
road and street courses in 2005" (Menzies, & Nguyen, 2012). This student believes that 50–50 mix
of ovals and road races should be the mix of formats for future Indy car races, because of the
controversial it bought on between owner and drivers. Indy Car Series has invested in a race in a
foreign market with its adoption of three types of racing circuits. Because of this decision and risk of
investing, Indy Car Series has gained significant amount of fans

sequential gearboxes Essay
Running Head: SEQUENTIAL GEARBOXES
Abstract
This paper will discuss the technology of sequential gearboxes. Relatively new technology, the
sequential gearbox has been applied mostly in ATV's, motorcycles, and the automobile racing
industry. Recently this technology has begun to reach passenger cars. There are three main points of
discussion; the workings of a manual transmission, how a sequential gearbox works and the
advantages of them, and the applications of it today. The sequential gearbox is extremely
revolutionary and is only used in high–end passenger cars, but maybe one day it will be a luxury the
majority of the population will be able to experience.

How Sequential Gearboxes Work
In a regular manual transmission there are three forks controlled by three rods that are engaged by
the shift lever by the driver. The normal "H" pattern that the driver sees on top of the shifter enables
him or her to move the shift lever between the control rods for the three forks and thus moving the
rods back and forth. When all of these aspects are combined a successful shift is accomplished.
Transmissions on ATV's or motorcycles using sequential gearboxes have a set of gear selection forks
that move collars, which engage the gears just like on regular manual transmissions. The gearshift
lever is moved up and down by the foot and the transmission is moved from gear to gear. When the
gearshift lever is moved by the foot, a ratcheting drum is rotated. This ratcheting drum has grooves
cut into the side of it. The grooves on the ratcheting drum will direct the control rods when the drum
is away from the transmission's gears. Moving the gear selector fork is the most common use of the
grooves. With this in mind, whenever the lever is moved up or down, the drum is rotated one
increment. The rotation of the drum allows for movement of the rods or forks as set by the grooves
in the drum and the gears are then changed (Brain, n.d.). The gear shifting sequence can only be
done in order; this means that no gears can be

Joe Racing League Case Study
The internal split that led to the creation of the Indy Racing League was a forced market
segmentation of the open wheel auto racing market. From a segmentation perspective, the split was
unsuccessful for a number of reasons. The primary reason the split was unsuccessful is that it
grouped the fans into two very different groups based on the type of track being used for the
different leagues. The secondary reason the split was unsuccessful is related to the division of the
sponsorships. The final reason the split was unsuccessful is due to the success that NASCAR had at
approximately the same point in time that the open wheel racing leagues had the division. By

Open-Wheel Racing Case Study
Although Tony George, President of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, created the Indy Racing
League (IRL) to be a new open–wheel league that would compete with Championship Auto Racing
Teams (CART), the new league was disruptive to open–wheel racing in the U.S. as team owners
were forced to decide whether they would remain with CART or move to the new IRL (Ferrell and
Hartline, 2014, p. 440). Because of his concerns that CART was losing sight of the interests of
American open–wheel racing by putting too much emphasis on racing at road courses rather than
oval tracks, turning too much focus on promoting top foreign drivers as CART stars, and holding
events in foreign countries, George developed the IRL in hopes to bring support back to American
open–wheel racing (p. 442). However, this was not the case at all. From a segmentation perspective,
the split was unsuccessful for several reasons. First, by forming the IRL and allowing only IRL
members to race in the Indianapolis 500, George forced CART teams to plan their own event on the
same day as the Indy 500 (Ferrell and Hartline, 2014, p. 442). In fact, CART drew in over 100,000
spectators when it held the U.S. 500 at the Michigan International Speedway on Memorial Day
weekend of 1996 (p. 442). Second, the dispute between CART and the IRL ... Show more content on

wheel racing in general (Ferrell and Hartline, 2014, p. 444). It resulted in a decrease of competition
quality, fan support, and sponsor dollars (p. 444). The goal of segmentation is to create a variety of
products/services that better suit the needs of different customer groups (p. 115). Although the
behavior of consumers/users can be irrational and unpredictable at times, I am not sure that George
did enough research regarding successful market segmentation (p.

National characteristics are not easy to pin down, and when pinned down they often turn out to be

English are not gifted artistically. They are not as musical as the Germans or Italians, painting and

injuries as a result of contact with the safer barrier. Nascar officials then went to Lincoln, Neb., for a
series of tests using heavier stock cars, and came away impressed. Within the next two years, nearly
every track on the Cup schedule would have safer barriers at key locations."Every decade, there's a
significant improvement in the level of understanding of energy management." Sicking said.
So do you still think nascar is dangerous? Yes it has its dangerous moments but safety has came a
long way. Many people died to enforce safety to happen. Nascar isn't as dangerous anymore. They
are still making safety changes to make drivers more safe. No matter how much nascar tries to make
safe changes there will still be some dangerous things. Although anything in life has some danger.
Nascar hasn't had someone die since 2001. In my opinion nascar is almost as safe as it can

Plastic in Sports Safety Essay
Anyone who plays sports knows the risks they are taking if they play. What if there was a way for us
to better protect if not prevent ourselves and our children from getting a traumatic brain injury that
cause serious issues in future life. I played rugby for 3 years myself have had multiple and have
concussions, with the last concussion I was told that I cannot play contact sports anymore. I would
like to look into what plastics could do to improve the safety in these games whether it be football or
any of the major sports in America today. There have been major developments in player safety over
the past few years as many past players are having issues that are related to the game they played.
Junior Seau committed suicide because he ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Each one of these things came from necessity. The main goal is to keep the body safe at all times no
matter the sport. NASCAR has been a sport that evolves constantly because of accidents that are a
part of the sport. The walls have been rebuilt at most of the major speedways on the circuit because
of the major crashes that have occurred. One of the greatest drivers ever died in a crash that led to a
safer helmet and better seat restraints. Sports are always going to be evolving and plastics are
allowing them to become safer without changing the way the games are played. Which is a main
reason that the NFL is hesitant to make any major changes to the equipment such as taking away
facemask or helmets in general which are ideas that have been brought up.
So right now a major word being thrown around is the concussion, it is a completely serious thing
that needs to be addressed by every sport. The NFL has been studying it and has work on the helmet
technology that it uses. Recent articles have come out saying that the helmet may actually be
encouraging the concussions to occur (Shankman) . The modern helmet is made from PC or
Polycarbonate which is a plastic that is extremely difficult to crack. One major problem with PC is
the fact that it does not disperse force well. Therefore it actually is helping players get traumatic
brain injuries (TBIs). The traditional helmet is made of a PC layer that is injection molded and a
layer of 2 inch thick polypropylene

How significant were the Republican policies in causing the great depression?
The significance of the republic policies were great, they brought a lot of growth in the 20's
allowing the market to strive over lots of trading and the purchase of shares, but was also an

between 1919 and 1941...
The nature of industrialisation in the 1930s
The nature of industrialisation changed in the 1930s. In the 1920s industrialisation had occurred
because of free enterprise and big business. But with the onset of the Depression, industrial output
fell dramatically. (statistics needed). To combat this, the federal government adopted a role of
directly stimulating industrial growth. The Public Works Administration (PWA) instituted in began
many large industrial projects with the aim of spurring the economy and providing many jobs. The
Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) was a federal project to energise the economy through a massive
industrial scheme sponsored by the federal government. Twenty five dams were built to reshape the
land and generate hydro–electricity, which could further contribute to industrial growth. Another
example of government leadership of industry was the National Recovery Administration (NRA),
which attempted to foster industrial growth through the creation of 'codes' for each industry. These
federal programs fundamentally changed the nature of industrialisation. In the 1930s, the
government's approach to industrialisation was more akin to socialist–state–style industrialisation
than it was to the American capitalism–style industrialisation of the 1920s. Further, the federal
government's

In Harm's Way Summary
In the book, In Harm's Way, by Doug Stanton the setting starts off in Litchfield, Connecticut, on
Winvian Farm. The farm is described as being "in rich horse country". It is the home of Captain
Charles Butler McVay III. However, the majority of the book is set in late World War II, and the
setting centers around the USS Indianapolis. For short she is referred to as the Indy. The ship is 133
feet tall, and 610 feet long, with a top speed of 32.75 knots, and 3–4 inch armor plating. The ship is
a battle cruiser. Amongst other things it has 2 radio rooms, 4 boiler rooms, and an airplane hangar.
Towards the middle of the book the setting is the Pacific Ocean. The oceans waters are full of sharks
and debris from the sunken ship. The main characters ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He is an experienced commander whom the crew holds in high regard. Dr. Haynes is one of the
oldest men on the ship, and is experienced as well. He serves on board as the doctor and is close
friends with the priest, Father Conway. Private McCoy is in his 13th month of service, and treats his
job seriously. The problem in the book is the torpedoing of the Indy, and the struggle of its surviving
crew to remain alive. They all face many challenges as they drift in the ocean. One important event
in the book is when the conflict between two high ranking admirals is revealed. Each admiral is
trying to control the U.S navy, and in that conflict, important information can be missed. That is
major foreshadowing, as it is later revealed one of the reasons for the long response to the failure of
the Indy to arrive where it was needed was the disarray caused by the two admirals. Another
important event is the torpedoing of the Indy. It is important because it is the start of all the conflict
and danger. The ship is taking damage, listing, and people are falling overboard without life vests.
They crew struggles and many crewman are confused and desperate to survive. Furthermore,
another important event is when the survivors begin to turn on

The Champ-Car Race
The split between the Indy Racing League and Champ Car was considered a tough and bittersweet
"pill" to swallow. The split seems to revolve around a directional disagreement which strayed away
from the original vision of the IndyCar Company. Throughout my research, I have found no true
definition if the split was completely unsuccessful, but the evidence would definitely suggest this
idea. Additionally, when the split occurred, a rift was created among the many supporting fans and
the once committed corporate sponsorships (Ferrell & Hartline, 2014). The split did come at a time
of strong competition and a declining economy. However, I did discover that during those times of
hardship (IRL & CART) focused on specific marketing plans that

The Nature Of The Motor Sporting Game
The nature of the motor sporting game encourages drivers to drive their automobiles with a certain
measure or control limits although accidents are usually inevitable and accepted as well.
Interestingly, the accidents are essential part of the racing competitions as it provides spectators and
TV amusement. Nonetheless, the sanctioning or governing bodies are responsible to guarantee that
the accidents neither results in major injuries or fatalities. For this reason, adequate safety levels are
necessary not only for spectators and drivers but also for involved officials and team participants
who are responsible for event staging (Wright, n.d.). In a single Grand Pix weekend in 1994, two
accidental fatalities occurred after eleven clean years of Grand Pix events without any fatality cases.
Since one of the dead driver, Ayrton Senna who was a triple World Champion was involved and the
fact that the competition was covered globally by TV, the reaction from the press, the public,
sponsors, governments as well as the Vatican was so bad that could jeopardize international motor
sport unless greater safety levels were achieved. The international body governing motor sport, the
Federation International Automobile (FIA), immediately undertook across–the–board steps to
improve safety levels which included revised regulations for car designs and integrated R&D into
enhanced systems and future standards. Hitherto, it is apparently clear that the primary and only
acceptable safety goal is

IPL
The Indian Premier League (often abbreviated as IPL) is a professional league for Twenty20 cricket
competition in India. It was initiated by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI)
headquartered in Mumbai supervised by BCCI Vice President Chirayu Amin, current chairman &
commissioner of IPL, and CEO, Sundar Raman. It currently contested by 10 teams (franchises)
consisting of players from different countries. It was started after an altercation between the BCCI
and the Indian Cricket League.[5]
In 2010, IPL became the first sporting event ever to be broadcast live on YouTube.[6] Its brand
value was estimated to be around $4.13 billion the same year.[7][8] According to global sports
salaries review, IPL is the second highest–paid league, based on first–team salaries on a pro rata
basis, second only to the NBA. It is estimated that the average salary of an IPL player over a year
would be $3.84 million. The brand value of Chennai Super Kings (winner IPL 2010, finalist IPL
2008 and semi–finalist IPL 2009) is estimated at USD 48.4 Million

US Open-Wheel Racing History and Impact

Open-Wheel Racing History The United States Auto Club (USAC) began in the 1950s; however, because of promotion concerns, many team owners left in search of other league opportunities; and it was at this time in 1978, Championship Automobile Racing Teams began. This type of racing was the forum for open–wheel racing in the United States and for 17 years led open–wheel racing. Anton H. "Tony" George, owner of the Indianapolis 500 believed CART was focusing too much on foreign popularity versus the United States; therefore, the creation of the open–wheel league in 1996 called the Indy Racing League (Ferrell & Hartline, 2014). The Impact Of Sports On Women's Sports Traditionally men have dominated the world of sports however in recent year's women's sports have become popular and with their new found popularity, women's sports have evolved into marketable leagues of their own. Although women's sports took a huge leap forward, women players still don't receive the same financial compensation for playing the same sports in the same arenas as their male counterparts. In Purse Snatching by Donna Lopiano, she points out sexism may have a huge effect on this financial discrepancy between women and men athletes. Women sports have come a long way, since the days when women were only allowed to watch. "The past three decades have witnessed a steady growth in women 's sports programs in America along with a remarkable increase in the number of women athletes (Daniel Frankl 2)" From an early age women were thought to be "Lady Like"; they are told not to get all sweaty and dirty. Over 200 years later since Maud Watson stepped on the tennis courts of Wimbledon (Sports Media digest 3); women now compete in all types and levels of sports from softball to National racing. One important thing that hurts IndyCar is the fact that television ratings and live event attendance is steadily going down. But instead of having as seen on television products they could sell exclusive products at their events, or special editions of already existing products. There are several sponsors that could mutually benefit from working together such as new products that need an investment which is related to the automotive or open wheel racing community, or tools that race viewers could learn about. • 21. History Of Open Wheel Racing The history of open–wheel racing in the United States is a story of incredible success and terrible failure. The story can be seen to have started in 1978 with the formation of the Championship Auto Racing Team or CART. The league was founded by several racing teams who were dissatisfied with the way open–wheel racing was being handled. CART experienced tremendous success for a number of years and represented the most popular form of motor sports in the United States. The wheels on the success of CART racing began to come off when Anton "Tony" George, the president of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway began to express concerns with how CART was operating. George complained that the CART league held too many races in foreign countries. He also expressed concern that CART was focusing on road races instead of oval tracks. He also felt that CART focused on too heavily on promoting foreign drivers. As a result of his dissatisfaction with CART, George began the Indy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One of the initial problems was that racing teams had to choose between remaining in the CART league or jumping ship to the IRL. The competition between the two leagues resulted in legal battles of the use of the term "Indy car." CART had licensed the term. The legal battles ended with a judgement that neither league could use the term until December 31, 2002. The legal bickering between the two leagues did nothing to attract fans to their races. Instead it proved to be a distraction for fans who began to lose interest in both leagues. It was during this time that stock car racing began its rise in popularity. Open–wheel racing suffered another setback when major sponsors like Honda, Toyota, and FedEx pulled their participation. Relatively new technology, the sequential gearbox has been applied mostly in ATV's, motorcycles, and the automobile racing industry. Recently this technology has begun to reach passenger cars. There are three main points of discussion; the workings of a manual transmission, how a sequential gearbox works and the advantages of them, and the applications of it today. The sequential gearbox is extremely revolutionary and is only used in high–end passenger cars, but maybe one day it will be a luxury the majority of the population will be able to experience. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... How Sequential Gearboxes Work In a regular manual transmission there are three forks controlled by three rods that are engaged by the shift lever by the driver. The normal "H" pattern that the driver sees on top of the shifter enables him or her to move the shift lever between the control rods for the three forks and thus moving the rods back and forth. When all of these aspects are combined a successful shift is accomplished. Transmissions on ATV's or motorcycles using sequential gearboxes have a set of gear selection forks that move collars, which engage the gears just like on regular manual transmissions. The gearshift lever is moved up and down by the foot and the transmission is moved from gear to gear. When the gearshift lever is moved by the foot, a ratcheting drum is rotated. This ratcheting drum has grooves cut into the side of it. The grooves on the ratcheting drum will direct the control rods when the drum is away from the transmission's gears. Moving the gear selector fork is the most common use of the grooves. With this in mind, whenever the lever is moved up or down, the drum is rotated one increment. The rotation of the drum allows for movement of the rods or forks as set by the grooves in the drum and the gears are then changed (Brain, n.d.). The gear shifting sequence can only be done in order; this means that no gears can be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

From a segmentation perspective, the split was unsuccessful for a number of reasons. The primary reason the split was unsuccessful is that it grouped the fans into two very different groups based on the type of track being used for the different leagues. The secondary reason the split was unsuccessful is related to the division of the sponsorships. • 54. Open-Wheel Racing Case Study Although Tony George, President of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, created the Indy Racing League (IRL) to be a new open–wheel league that would compete with Championship Auto Racing Teams (CART), the new league was disruptive to open–wheel racing in the U.S. as team owners were forced to decide whether they would remain with CART or move to the new IRL (Ferrell and Hartline, 2014, p. 440). Because of his concerns that CART was losing sight of the interests of American open–wheel racing by putting too much emphasis on racing at road courses rather than oval tracks, turning too much focus on promoting top foreign drivers as CART stars, and holding events in foreign countries, George developed the IRL in hopes to bring support back to American open–wheel racing (p. 442). However, this was not the case at all. From a segmentation perspective, the split was unsuccessful for several reasons. First, by forming the IRL and allowing only IRL members to race in the Indianapolis 500, George forced CART teams to plan their own event on the same day as the Indy 500 (Ferrell and Hartline, 2014, p. 442). In fact, CART drew in over 100,000 spectators when it held the U.S. 500 at the Michigan International Speedway on Memorial Day weekend of 1996 (p. 442). Nascar has changed dramatically over the past few years. Nascar has many different rule to make sure people stay safe. Nascar drivers have to do certain things just to get behind the wheel for the first time. When nascar was first introduced in 1948, they didn't have very many rules at all. I'm going to explain how nascar has changed from 1948 to 2017. Nascar was first invented February 21, 1948. In June 19, 1948, was the first nascar race ever. They didn't have many safety rules or safety barriers. So yes back then nascar was extremely dangerous. In the 1950s, seat belts were a must to be able ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Nascar officials then went to Lincoln, Neb., for a series of tests using heavier stock cars, and came away impressed. Within the next two years, nearly every track on the Cup schedule would have safer barriers at key locations."Every decade, there's a significant improvement in the level of understanding of energy management." Sicking said. So do you still think nascar is dangerous? Yes it has its dangerous moments but safety has came a long way. Many people died to enforce safety to happen. Nascar isn't as dangerous anymore. They are still making safety changes to make drivers more safe. No matter how much nascar tries to make safe changes there will still be some dangerous things. What if there was a way for us to better protect if not prevent ourselves and our children from getting a traumatic brain injury that cause serious issues in future life. I played rugby for 3 years myself have had multiple and have concussions, with the last concussion I was told that I cannot play contact sports anymore. I would like to look into what plastics could do to improve the safety in these games whether it be football or any of the major sports in America today. There have been major developments in player safety over the past few years as many past players are having issues that are related to the game they played. Junior Seau committed suicide because he ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Each one of these things came from necessity. The main goal is to keep the body safe at all times no matter the sport. NASCAR has been a sport that evolves constantly because of accidents that are a part of the sport. The walls have been rebuilt at most of the major speedways on the circuit because of the major crashes that have occurred. One of the greatest drivers ever died in a crash that led to a safer helmet and better seat restraints. Sports are always going to be evolving and plastics are allowing them to become safer without changing the way the games are played. Which is a main reason that the NFL is hesitant to make any major changes to the equipment such as taking away facemask or helmets in general which are ideas that have been brought up. So right now a major word being thrown around is the concussion, it is a completely serious thing that needs to be addressed by every sport. The NFL has been studying it and has work on the helmet technology that it uses. Recent articles have come out saying that the helmet may actually be encouraging the concussions to occur (Shankman) . The modern helmet is made from PC or Polycarbonate which is a plastic that is extremely difficult to crack. One major problem with PC is the fact that it does not disperse force well. Therefore it actually is helping players get traumatic brain injuries (TBIs). The traditional helmet is made of a PC layer that is injection molded and a layer of 2 inch thick polypropylene ... The nature of industrialisation in the 1930s The nature of industrialisation changed in the 1930s. In the 1920s industrialisation had occurred because of free enterprise and big business. But with the onset of the Depression, industrial output fell dramatically. (statistics needed). To combat this, the federal government adopted a role of directly stimulating industrial growth. The Public Works Administration (PWA) instituted in began many large industrial projects with the aim of spurring the economy and providing many jobs. The Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) was a federal project to energise the economy through a massive industrial scheme sponsored by the federal government. Twenty five dams were built to reshape the land and generate hydro–electricity, which could further contribute to industrial growth. Another example of government leadership of industry was the National Recovery Administration (NRA), which attempted to foster industrial growth through the creation of 'codes' for each industry. These federal programs fundamentally changed the nature of industrialisation. In the 1930s, the government's approach to industrialisation was more akin to socialist–state–style industrialisation than it was to the American capitalism–style industrialisation of the 1920s. Further, the federal government's

The split seems to revolve around a directional disagreement which strayed away from the original vision of the IndyCar Company. Throughout my research, I have found no true definition if the split was completely unsuccessful, but the evidence would definitely suggest this idea. Additionally, when the split occurred, a rift was created among the many supporting fans and the once committed corporate sponsorships (Ferrell & Hartline, 2014). The split did come at a time of strong competition and a declining economy. However, I did discover that during those times of hardship (IRL & CART) focused on specific marketing plans that ... • 103. The Nature Of The Motor Sporting Game The nature of the motor sporting game encourages drivers to drive their automobiles with a certain measure or control limits although accidents are usually inevitable and accepted as well. Interestingly, the accidents are essential part of the racing competitions as it provides spectators and TV amusement. Nonetheless, the sanctioning or governing bodies are responsible to guarantee that the accidents neither results in major injuries or fatalities. For this reason, adequate safety levels are necessary not only for spectators and drivers but also for involved officials and team participants who are responsible for event staging (Wright, n.d.). In a single Grand Pix weekend in 1994, two accidental fatalities occurred after eleven clean years of Grand Pix events without any fatality cases. Since one of the dead driver, Ayrton Senna who was a triple World Champion was involved and the fact that the competition was covered globally by TV, the reaction from the press, the public, sponsors, governments as well as the Vatican was so bad that could jeopardize international motor sport unless greater safety levels were achieved. The international body governing motor sport, the Federation International Automobile (FIA), immediately undertook across–the–board steps to improve safety levels which included revised regulations for car designs and integrated R&D into enhanced systems and future standards. Hitherto, it is apparently clear that the primary and only acceptable safety goal is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
