Grout College Essay
HOW TO CHOOSE THE RIGHT GROUT FOR YOUR TILE
Choosing a different grout color for your tile can add a touch of elegance or a distinct modern flair
to your design.
Grout is more than just the cement that fills and holds your tile together; it is an important element
of the tilework s design. Often disregarded, grout selection is as significant as the tile you select,
and it is the finishing touch that will bring together your unique design.
Grout varieties have expanded over the last decade and nowadays, you can find grout in virtually
every shade and every color to blend or add a little contrast to your tiles. By choosing a different
color grout, you can change the look of the tile design from elegant to traditional or from
contemporary to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sanded grout is less expensive and should be used if the spaces between the tiles are greater than
1/8 inch. Non sanded or unsanded grouts, tend to cost more and are made specifically for grout
lines smaller than 1/8 inch. Unsanded grout will shrink as it cures and the more grout you have,
the more it will shrink. If you try to fill grout lines that are too wide, the grout will shrink enough
to pull away from the sides of the tile. Make sure to talk with your installer about choosing the right
grout for your specific project.
Tips for Selecting Grout
Install a few pieces of tile on a piece of plywood and add a couple of different colors of grout.
Allow it to properly cure and then place it in the room you are having the tile installed to see how
the lighting affects your choice. When selecting grout colors, keep the following tips in mind:
If you have selected a colored grout, make sure to give it time to cure before making a final
decision.
Lighter colored grouts should be sealed, especially in heavy traffic areas and in showers.
Darker colored grouts are better at hiding discolorations and dirt, but can also fade if subjected to

The Egyptian Syrian Attack Of September 1973
Assess the reasons for Israel s unpreparedness for the Egyptian Syrian attack of October 1973
The Egyptian Syrian attack that took place on Yon Kippur is a hugely significant event in the
history of the Arab Israeli conflict. Often referred to as the trauma , the attack revealed a number
of key issues with regards to Israeli defence and intelligence that ultimately resulted in a severe lack
of preparation. Israel was unprepared for a plethora of interlinking issues that resulted in a series of
fatal mistakes with regard to intelligence and military preparedness. With regards intelligence, an
entrenched and overconfident conviction in the Concept blinded the Israeli s to the concrete
evidence and forewarnings of the Egyptian Syrian mobilization. The ingenuity of the Egyptian s
was also crucial to Israeli unpreparedness, especially the deployment of the almost certain double
agent Ashraf Marwan.
The Concept is the first significant reason why Israel was grossly unprepared for the attack she
did not expect it and this was blunder of her own making. Upon official investigation into the
errors of Israeli preparation, the 1975 Agranat Commission highlighted Israel s Military
Intelligence Directorate Aman had persistently adhered to a single incorrect Concept regarding
Egypt s attack capabilities, disregarding other key intelligence as a result. This Concept was that
Egypt would not wage war on the Israeli s before she had, firstly, acquired long range attack

The W. P. Swanson Confectionery Era Essay
The W. P. Swanson Confectionery Era
An unfortunate incident occurred toward the conclusion of the 1920s, when robbers broke into
Bill, Clara, and Anton s garage and stole their brand new Buick automobile. While Clara lay in bed
on the eventful night, she heard noise outside. Fearful of the consequences of a confrontation with
the intruders, to safeguard Bill she refrained from waking him. Blissfully unaware of the burglars,
Bill slept through the night and didn t discover the theft until morning.26 An investigation revealed
that after breaking into the garage, the thieves pushed the car out of the garage, the full length of
the driveway onto the street, and down the street away from the scene of the crime, before starting
the Buick and driving it away. The authorities never recovered the automobile.27
In 1929, Clara became pregnant at the age of thirty five, regarded as too advanced in years to begin
a family. An unexpected child this late in life, of course, created elation for the blessed arrival.
However, in addition to Clara s age, her family and personal history also caused grave concerns
for the safety of both mother and baby. The death of Clara s mother from frail health attributed to
childbirth and the death of Clara s only sibling, a brother, during his first year of life weighed
heavily on Bill, Clara, and Anton.28 Furthermore, a miscarriage early in their marriage, while still
farming in Peaceful Valley, exacerbated the concern.29 In an era when

Religious Affiliation As A Choice
Wade and Tavris s Invitation to Psychology defines religious affiliation as a choice made by a
person of which particular belief system they will live according to. Furthermore, whether a
person is a Methodist, Muslim, Catholic, Jew, Hindu, and so on, is not heritable . The religious
group people choose to belong to has a lot to do with influence from several factors, including the
affiliation of their parents, ethnicity, culture, and social class (142). Conversely, the term
religiosity is defined as a person s depth of religious feeling and adherence to a religions rules (142),
and contrary to affiliation, has a genetic component. Growing up in the Episcopal church, God has
always been a part of my life. As I have grown up, however, I have continuously assessed my
religiosity regarding my faith. Using the book s definition, I believe my religiosity is subtle yet
traditional. But when it comes to my own beliefs, there are several factors that have shaped the
way I perceive God, faith, religion, and their role in my life.
Growing up in the Episcopal church, I have always had a sort of relaxed understanding of God and
His teachings. Beginning in kindergarten and continuing through the eighth grade, I attended a
private Catholic school as the only student in my grade who wasn t affiliated with the Catholic
church. Often my religion teachers would ask me questions like, how is this different in your
church? , or have me explain to the class that Episcopalian women

Money And Happiness In The Great Gatsby
Rick Pitino once said, I d learned how much happiness money can bring you, very little. Just as
Fitzgerald tried to stress throughout his novel, money will never make a person fully content in
life. Francis Scott Fitzgerald, better known as F. Scott Fitzgerald, was one of the great authors of
20th Century America. He was born in St. Paul, Minnesota on September 24, 1896. Finding
success from a young age, he wrote The Great Gatsbyat the ripe age of 29. As seen in the book,
Gatsby constantly lavished himself with finer material things, trying to fill the void Daisy had left
him with. On the other hand, although Daisy had everything and anything money could buy, she
was lifeless. Almost every character at some period throughout the book, tried to replace joy with
wealth. Money and happiness do not correlate, although one may try to buy their happiness with
material things, it is simply not possible. The source of true happiness will never be money. Jay
Gatsbyworked tirelessly for years, just to attain the wealth he believed would complete his life.
He became a huge success, and was even thought to be superior to others. Sadly, this turned out
to be all in vain, because it did nothing but cause the desire in him to grow. His life had been
confused and disordered since then, but if he could once return to a certain starting place and go
over it all slowly, he could find out what that thing was... (Fitzgerald, 110). This goes to show that
ever since Daisy had left, he was

The Pledge Should Be Allowed In The United States
The argument of being made to stand and say the pledge has become a hot topic. People believe
that the portion of Under God is unconstitutional and should be taken out. However there are also
people who believe that everyone should say the pledge to their country. There is deep and rich
history on the pledge itself. The pledge should still be said in public schools to keep a sense of
patriotism in the country. First off the history of the pledge started about 120 years ago. The
pledge was invented for the 400 year anniversary of Columbus discovering America. According to
Freedom of Religion Foundation, Seeking ideas to commemorate the 400th anniversary of the
discovery of America on Columbus Day, 1892, President Benjamin Harrison had initiated a call for
the development of a special patriotic school program to highlight the event. Bellamy and Upham
were able to line up the National Education Association to support Youth s Companion as a sponsor
of the observance, and arranged for President Harrison and Congress to announce a national
proclamation which centered around an American flag ceremony and (then... Show more content on

is in America they should take pride in their country and say the pledge. According to Teach nology
the main reason that the pledge of allegiance is said in schools is to instill a sense of patriotism
amongst students. Some believe that it shouldn t be controversial at all because it the process is
just what it is described as: a pledge. It is certainly far from being an oath which can bind a
student against what they are saying. There is no rule saying that you have to say every word of

Pros And Cons Of Propaganda
Propaganda is not a recent idea or concept however since the creation of film propaganda has found
its way into them, especially documentary s. Documentary filmmaking is a platform and mode of
filmmaking associated with truth and actuality to present an overview of a topic or issue
(Aufderheide, 2007). Audiences expect this when watching documentary films because generally
the topic of a documentary filmis based on a real issue and/or event without the use with actors,
sets and special effects (with the exception of docudramas) (Nichols, 2010). Although they may be
based on a real world issue/event the filmmaker(s) behind the documentaries have an agenda and
are trying to push certain ideologies or points of view on the audience. However, the assumption is
made that they are doing this through fact and truth (Bizz). Propaganda on the other hand does not
rely on truth or fact as it is an idea of dishonestly. Propaganda never tries to persuade or inform
instead it attempts to deceive an audience by conveying/creating representations and ideas in a text
that can only have one dominant reading (Aufderheide, 2007). Propaganda filmmaking is usually
created by governments and political figures to impose hateful/nationalistic viewpoints and
ideologies on the general populous (Aufderheide, 2007). Triumph of the Will(Riefenstahl, 1935)
and Prelude to War (Capra, 1943) demonstrate that documentaries have the ability to create a false
representation of history due to the filmmaker s

Roe Vs Wade Case Study
ROE v. WADE
Supreme Court of the United States,
5th Circuit, 1983.
410 U.S. 113.
FACTS The prosecution, Jane Roe, a pregnant single women brought a class action lawsuit in an
effort to challenge the laws in Texas surrounding abortion and their constitutionality. Texas laws
made it illegal to have an abortion without the medical direction of a medical professional, in
which case it would be for the health and well being of the pregnant mother. The respondents made
up of Dr. Hallford who was criminally charged with for violating Texas abortion laws; and a married
couple with no children, the Does, who sought to fight the enforcement of Texas abortion laws by
the government for being unconstitutional. The defendant was Henry Wade, the county District...

REASON The court held that it is the primary responsibility of the pregnant women s physician to
determine the termination of pregnancy during the first trimester. During the second trimester, the
State is allowed to intervene in the termination of an unborn fetus with legitimate interest in the
pregnant women s health. The State would intervene by regulating the procedures surrounding the
women s health. In the third trimester, the State may regulate the procedures surrounding the
women s health and even prohibiting the abortion altogether, keeping the pregnant women s health
a top priority. The Supreme Court of the United Statesheld that the lawsuit regarding pregnancy, is
an exception to the general rule that a difference must occur during each stage of the judicial
review, and not only when the action is proposed. The Does complaint searching for injunctive
relief was solely based on the contingencies which might or might not have occurred. It was
irrelevant for the Court to decide Dr. Hallford s case for injunctive relief, because once the Supreme
Court found the laws unconstitutional, the Texas Government were not allowed to enforce them.
The dissenting opinion of Justice Rehnquist was that the right to an abortion is not widely accepted
by everyone, and that the right to privacy on the matter of abortion is not constitutionally involved
in this case. In addition, Justice White made his dissenting opinion based on the constitutional
foundations surrounding Jane Roe and the Does, stating: In every other case, there was something
in the Constitution you could point to for support. There, nothing. Justice White would later
conclude that he would return the issue back

This could potentially be the vacuum or circuit in Hurston s life that attested for her fame in the

Eatonville and neighboring towns. Now, these founders were, to a man, people who had risked
their lives and fortunes that Negroes might be free. Those who had fought in the ranks had
thrown their weight behind the cause of Emancipation (5). This demonstration of leadership and
uncertainty are characteristics that Hurston posses. So, in a raw, bustling frontier, the
experiment of self government for Negroes was tried. White Maitland and Negro Eatonville
have lived side by side for fifty five years without a single instance of enmity. The spirit of the

Yellow Face Play Summary
This paper is a critique of the adaptation of David Henry Hwang s Yellow Face, a semi
autobiographical play, adapted and directed by Jeff Liu. This play was produced by the
YOMYOMF Network and was performed through the video sharing website Youtube. The plotline
follows the misadventures of an Asian American playwright named David Henry Hwang, the
protagonist of the playwho is played by Ryan Yu. Throughout the play, Yu s character leads a
protest against yellow face casting which only ends up in failure and embarrassment.
Furthermore, he ends up mistakenly cast a white actor, Marcus G. Dahlman who is played by

He was able to accomplish this task by continuously displaying his professional skills as an actor
with correctly using his voice, adjustable facial expressions, and great articulation. For example,
in Act II, Yu wanted to display disdain toward Gorham s character comment about the Chinese
community and he achieved this by using a booming, assertive voice. Moreover, in this scene
he also used exaggerated gestures by swinging his arms and twisting his hands. In relation to
facial expressions, Yu strayed away from revealing dull, long face by endlessly using adaptive,
cheeky facials instead. In particular, during Act I, Yu was having a conversation with his father
and was getting confused by his father s statements. He demonstrated his bewilderment by using
a quizzical, baffled facial expression with inquiring eyes and slightly opening his mouth which
begged his father to clarify himself. Additionally, Yu was discussing in the park with Karla
Chang, who was performed by Linda Park and was Yu s character s old love interest, about her
boyfriend finally being caught as a fake Asian. Likewise, he constantly slammed his hands in an
aggressive manner on the bench and strolled across the area with long strides in order to illustrate
his satisfaction about her current situation. Towards the end of the play, when Yu is describing his
relationship with his father he is perceived to be nervous and this can be seen through his rapid
pace of speaking and his speedy walking back and

Summary Of Abortion By Anne Sexton
In Anne Sexton s poem The Abortion , she uses literary devices to reflect her heart wrenching
decision of whether or not to abort one of her children, which reflects the style of confessional
poetry because she is sharing her personal feelings and experiences. Anne Sexton was a famous
poet of confessional poetry, where the poets write about their private experiences with feelings
about death, trauma, and depression in their lives. Anne Sexton wrote from the point of view of an
upper middle class woman. She had two children, and the stress of having them, gave her life long
depression. Sexton was sent to a psychiatric hospital after the birth of her second child. The
Abortiondisplays all of Sexton s feelings that she has about her abortion.
Sexton sets off the poem [driving] south (Sexton 5). She is describing her trip to go and get her
child aborted, and she sees the road sunken like a gray washboard (9). The road is extremely rough
and bumpy, which is often an unpleasant surface to drive on. The negative connotation of her car
ride there is making her trip start off horribly and she has not even gotten to the worst part of it
yet. The gray description of the road makes it seem lifeless, which reflects how Sexton is feeling
on her trip. She also sees grass as bristly and stout as chives (14). Chives are a tall green plant that
look like grass, which she describes as bristly . Indicating that the grass is rough and scratchy. This
gives it a negative connotation

Speech On Roswell Incident 1947
Speech on the Roswell incident 1947 Can you imagine the U.S government lying to the public
to cover up extraterrestrial life? According to the widely held public opinion, near Roswell, New
Mexico, in July 1947 the United States government recovered a crashed UFO and its
extraterrestrial occupants. This was referred to as the Roswell Incident and the U.S. military
had covered the issue up quickly. The original story in the eyes of non UFO buffs for this
conspiracy is that on the fourth of July weekend 1947 a rancher William Brazel reported to the
sheriff that he recover the remains of one of them flying saucers the military was then contacted
and Major Jesse Marcel was assigned to investigate the site. On the 8th of July 1947 after Marcel
and 2 Counter Intelligence Corps agents examined and collected the wreckage there was an
announcement to the public that they recovered the remains of a flying disc . But the next day this

Competitive Advantages Of Universal Orlando Resorts
Universal Orlando Resort is the one of the top five largest theme parks in the world, coming
second only to Walt Disney World. In 2016, they saw roughly 47.3 million visitors walk through
their gates. They compete directly with Walt Disney World Resorts which is just down the street, in
terms of theme parks. In the beginning, they sought to be an additional theme park in an industry
relatively controlled by one party Disney. As they continued to grow they saw other areas to invest
in and competed in every facet of a vacation destination.
One of Universal s major competitive advantages comes from their ability to license characters,
themes and stories from major movie productions due to their parent company Comcast owning the
movie producing goliath Universal Pictures. This allows them to add new feature rides such as
Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts, Fast and Furious Supercharged and Jimmy Fallon s
Race through New York. Additionally, NBC Universal acquired distribution rights to Illumination
and DreamWorks animation companies allowing them to add rides and sell merchandise that
featured movies such as Minions, Shrek and Secret Life of Pets.
Before the Walt Disney Company purchased Marvel Comics in 2009 for $4 Billion dollars,
Universal made a deal in 1994 with then Marvel Entertainment Group to utilize the rights of certain
characters in their Marvel Universe. This universe was subsequently named Marvel Super Hero
Island due to being located in

Corn Vs Corn Essay
America grows a lot of corn. Of all the different grains grown here more than 95% of it is corn.
While corn is grown in most every state, most corn is grown in the Heartland, which is what the
middle of the country is sometimes called. Illinois and Iowa, two states in the Heartland, produce
30% of all corn in America.
Do you enjoy corn of the cob in the summer time? Most of us do, but do Americans eat all this
corn that they grow? No, we do not eat it all, but we do eat quite a bit of it. Sometimes we eat corn
without realizing it!
Corn on the cob or corn in your dinner are obvious ways to eat corn. There are less obvious ways,
too. Corn can be processed, or made, into sweeteners and oils. Sweeteners are added to other foods
to make them sweet. Corn syrup is a sweetener used to make many things, ... Show more content on

Corn can also be made in to cereal, grits, or flour. Grits are kind of like oatmeal, but made with
corn. The corn is dried and ground up. Then, the grits can be mixed with water or milk. Many
people enjoy a bowl of warm grits at breakfast. Flour is made in a similar way to grits but is ground
to be very fine, like regular flour. Americans rely on corn in their diet.
Farmers and other people in agriculture also rely on corn. A lot of corn is used to feed cows and
other animals like pigs and chickens. How much corn that livestock is fed depends on the cost.
Farmers may choose to feed their animals something different if corn costs too much. Or, they may
choose to feed their livestock something different if there is not enough corn for the animals. In
some years, not enough corn is grown to meet all the needs that we have.
Lastly, corn is used to make a fuel. This fuel is called ethanol. In some places ethanol is mixed
with gasoline to run cars and other vehicles. Next time you are at a gas station, look at the gas
pump to see if it says that the fuel contains ethanol. If it does, then you are putting corn into your

Government And Societal Ideas From The 19th Century
Government and Societal Ideas from the 19th Century During the 19th Century, three prominent
thinkers John Stuart Mill, Giuseppe Mazzini, and Karl Marx had their own ideas of an ideal
society. These individuals had their own unique view of the perfect society. However, they all
have something in common with their visions: all of these excerpts discussed an oppressive
entity. In all of the three ideal societies concocted by these men, tyrannical governments or
oppressive societies are obstacles to their visions. In the excerpt from John Stuart Mill s On
Liberty, he discusses the imperfection of democracy. He states that democracy was only a perfect
system when it was still a dream and not a reality. His reason for this imperfection is... Show more

Essentially, it is citizen s duty to protect their rights from the oppressive shadow of the opinions
of the majority. In the second excerpt, taken from his essay, The Duties of Man, Mazzini
discusses the means for an ideal society. He says that for an ideal society to exist the people
living in said society must work towards unification and nationalism. Mazzini states that man s
primary duty should be towards humanity and his their country. He said that this is what God
originally intended as a part of his Divine Design . He also says that this design God intended
was corrupted by greedy and oppressive Monarchies. Evidence of this can be taken from The
Duties of Man, They have disfigured it by their conquests, their greed, and their jealousy even of
the righteous power of others; disfigured it so far that, if we except England and France, there is
not perhaps a single country whose present boundaries correspond to that design (Mazzini 1860).
He later says the countries of unified people, defined by the vote of free men, will rise from the
ruins of traditional monarchies and that there will be harmony between this nations. For Mazzini s
ideal society to exist people must make it their duty to follow God s Divine Plan. He expresses
this in The Duties of Man, Our Country is our common workshop, whence the products of our

Types Of Psychological Ideas Into A Design
My major is Human Factors which is the incorporation of psychological ideas into a design. In
order to design systems that are functional for all different types of people, one must first
understand the basics of psychological disorders. I have decided to look deeper in psychopathy.
Psychopathy testing has accepted the use of a moral questionnaire, but for a group of people
known for being deceiving, that may not be efficient. The goal of this research is to develop an
activity that identifies psychopaths based on the upper cognitive abilities.
ORIGINAL RESEARCH
Levenson s Self Report Psychopathy Scale (LSRP)
The LSRP is the scale most often used to identify Psychopathy on a large scale. The questionnaire
consists of 26 behavior based question. Ten of the questions look at psychopathic behavior, while
the other 16 look at the internal psychopathic feelings of the individual. Answer choices were on a
1 (strongly disagree) to 4 (strongly agree) scale.
Antisocial Behavior Inventory
The Antisocial Behavior Inventory is a self reported measure that measure delinquency based on 11
specific acts. The survey asks participants if they ever committed the act, when they first committed
the act, and how many time the committed the act in the last 12 months. Seven questions ask about
relatively serious delinquent acts (like taking a car), while 4 questions ask about alcohol and drug
use (like cocaine).

Shaka Zulu Influence
Shaka Zulu was perhaps the single most influential leader in the early history of Southern Africa.
He overcame great adversity in his youth, prior to his experiences in the military. He utilized
methods that were both brutal and brilliant in his rapid and widespread conquests. Shaka
assembled a huge Zulu kingdom comparable to Napoleon s Empire with a population of over
250,000. Though he achieved many great things, he also had a rather grim downfall. The story of
ShakaZulu is one of great historical significance.
Shaka was born as the illegitimate child of a Zulu chief. The Zulu chief publicly distanced himself
from Shaka and his mother, Nandi, though they lived with him. This caused Shaka and Nandi to
develop an extremely close relationship. After a disagreement between Shaka and his father, both
the young boy and Nandi were expelled from the village. The pair attempted to find refuge with the
Langeni people, but they were mocked and despised by the locals, forcing them to flee. They
eventually found refuge with Mthethwa tribe. It was here that Shaka first demonstrated his military
brilliance. He became a warrior at the age of 23, allowing the Mthethwa to win several important
battles.
Shaka s father died in 1816. At this time, the Zulu were a miniscule and powerless clan surrounded
by superior neighbors. Shaka was sent by the Mthethwa head chief to conquer the Zulu tribe, a feat
he accomplished both quickly and efficiently. He established himself

Honor And Glory In The Iliad Of Homer
Honor and glory are two important things for the heroes of Greece. Greek heroes live all their
life to pursue honor and glory, and they always want the society to know their reputation. Honor
and glory create many epic wars which take the lives of many people, and it exists at every stage.
One of them is the fall of Troy, and it is a thing... whose glory shall perish never (Homer, Iliad

have to sacrifice love or honor because they cannot have both. It s a very difficult choice for

The Game of Freedom and Dance Capoeira
What is Capoeira exactly? Is it just another overvalued Brazilian sport like fГєtbol, or could we

recently attended a roda, a circle of people in which Capoeira is performed, hosted at a Capoeira

one of the veteran Capoeiristas a few questions, regarding what she knew and felt about
Capoeira. This was her response: Ever since I was a little girl, bringing brought up with
Capoeira, I was taught that Capoeira cannot be truly taught as if it were just a dance, or a martial
art. Capoeira is a well known and respected art that lets us tell a story without using our words,

Why I Was A Psychiatry Inpatient Service At The Boston...
It hits you like a freight train, or at least it did for me. I was thirteen when I stopped looking

I came to terms with the fact that I no longer wanted to live.
Fast forward two years: Bader 5 is a psychiatry inpatient service at the Boston Children s Hospital

time she came back, it looked like she had aged ten years.
Another hour passed, my dad arrived. We all sat in the emergency room together, and Marcos
took post in the hallway. Eventually, a doctor showed up, along with a police officer, and my
family and I were led up to Bader 5. We met with Steve, the man who ran Bader 5 and he had

Samuel Wurzelbacher, AKA Joe the Plumber, watched Richard Martinez mourn over the death of
his only son who was shot in the Isla Vista rampage. He responded to Richard Martinez with an
open letter on a website, Barbwire.com, saying : I am sorry you lost your child. I myself have a
son and daughter and the one thing I never want to go through, is what you are going through right
now. But: as harsh as this sounds your dead kids don t trump my Constitutional rights. This is the
type of thing that people find so terrible about the Second Amendment; because pro gunzealots use
the Second Amendment to protect their immoral actions, but this is their twisted and corrupted
interpretation on the meaning and intent of the Amendment because this is in no way the original
premise of the Second Amendment. The right to bear arms laid out in the Second Amendment is
just because guns are weapons for self defense. Precautions are taken on gun control, such as
keeping a permanent record of all gun sales, requiring a license and certain mental certifications,
and only allowing certain guns to be distributed to the public. Although some may argue that they
can also be used to kill the innocent, the removal of guns from the possession of certified citizens
will not stop crime, murder, or the death of innocents because guns are not the only weapons
capable of these deaths.
First of all, the right to bear arms is just because guns are weapons of self defense, and can be used
to prevent the

Beauty Document Analysis
Beauty pageants show the positive of being thin, glamourous and what the perfect ideal
beautiful females should look like. Little Miss Sunshine shows that children also have a very
competitive idea of what is perfect and acceptable for children. Society and media along with
parents and peers show young children and young adults that being thin and beautiful is the only
acceptable norm in the world. Even though not all children or young adults are think and
beautiful they are still very beautiful. The world needs to show that all young children and young
adults are beautiful, no matter if they are think or not, parents and peers need to stop
discouraging young children and young adults to only be a certain way. All young children and
young adults should have support and encouragement regarding their bodies. Background The
topic of young children and young adults having body image issues is a topic that has been
around for a few year. Society as a norm prompts being young and beautiful. Personally myself as a
young child and teenager my mother would tell us we could... Show more content on

Have we ever said this around a young child? Five to 8 year olds who think their moms are
unhappy with their bodies are more likely to feel dissatisfied with their own, according to
Common Sense Media s report (Wallace, 2015). I myself have never said something like this
around a young child; however, I know my sister did something similar and her then seven year
old daughter started criticizing her own body. My sister being the quick thinking hands on
parent asked her why she thought her body image was negative and my niece said because this
make me look fat like you said something did on you. From that point forward our family has
Ban fat talk (Wallace, 2015). My sister or anyone else in my family has said this or that make use

Choosing Carnegie Mellon
Why Carnegie Mellon is an important question to which has several answers. First being
Carnegie Mellon s history with Operations Research or the other names it goes by. Secondly is
CMU s location as it is important for several reasons. The third reason may be unconventional
considering my other two choices. With these three reasons make up my top three reasons for
choosing Carnegie Mellon, but they are not the only three. Beginning before World War 1 Carnegie
Mellon was already making itself known in an up and coming field called Industrial Research. At
the Mellon Institute of Industrial Research scientists solved specific problems that were presented
to them. They used methods such as statistical analysis and much more in order to solve

Human And Environmental Interactions Of The Salem Creek...
Human and Environmental Interactions Each watershed varies depending on location. The Salem
Creek watershed naturally consists of rocks, vegetation, water, clay and loam soils, slopes, and
juvenile aquatic life. Conversely, there is naturally some stream bank and soil erosion. As for
human features, the watershed consists of drainage pipes, sewage pipes, bridges, mounds of
cement, and pollution sources. Most of the human features are generally in the highly urbanized
areas of the watershed, which consists of northwestern portion of Winston Salem, NC. There were
also impervious surfaces bordering both sides of the watershed. On the stretch parallel to Old
Salem Road, there was Old Salem Road on one side of the watershed, and housing and other
buildings on the other. With the portion that is appears near South Main Street, there is a multiuse
development and major road bordering it. There is also cement on the furthest side of the
watershed and a sidewalk on the other that border the wide portion of the watershed that is located
in the Salem Creek Greenway.
Many of these impervious surfaces have drainage systems that run directly into the watershed. As
shown above in the center picture, there is direct drainage from the street to the watershed with no
type of filtration, which in return has cause the glistening polluted puddle in front of the drainage
pipe. Salem College as well as Old Salem are large tourists attractions for Winston Salem, NC. In

Energy expenditure, intake and balance
Task 1 [P3, M1]
Describe/explain potential sources of energy intake and expenditure and the factors that affect
intake and expenditure such as basal metabolism, age, gender, climate and physical activity.
Food is a source of energy intake as it contains carbohydrates; there main function is to store
energy in the muscles. Carbs are a macronutrient and come in two different forms, simple which
are foods like chocolate and sweets these release energy quickly, the other form is complex
which are foods like pasta and rice they release energy slower so are better to keep energy for a
sustained period of time. There are certain factors that affect energy intake for instance what gender
you are affects how much energy you need, a male s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These measurements are then converted into body fat percentage using an equation; a male should
have around 15% body fat whereas a female should have 20 25% due to them having breasts etc.
(100 words)
Bioelectrical Impedance Bioelectrical impedance measures the resistance of body tissues to the
flow of a small electrical signal. The proportion of body fat can be calculated due to the current
flowing through the parts of the body that are made up of mostly of water such as blood, urine and
muscle this is not possible through bone, fat and air. By doing this it is possible to work out how
much body fat the person has by combining the bioelectric impendence measurement with factors
such as gender, age, height, weight, and fitness level.
(100 words)
Hydro densitometry Hydro densitometry (which is also known as hydrostatic weighing) is
weighing someone while they are in water, it is considered to be the most accurate form of
measuring body fat. A very large tank of water is used for this test, firstly a comparison is made
between the underwater weight and the dry weight of a person. Due to fat being less dense than
the other tissues in the body, it floats more easily. The more fat a person has on their body, the
greater the difference between the dry and wet weights. While this method of measuring is very
accurate and considered the best way of measuring body fat, not many people use this method
because the equipment and test is highly expensive.

Executive Pay Matters
Executive Pay Matters UK
Risky Remuneration
2017 will mean renewal of executive remuneration policy for most listed companies. Whilst that
may seem like a considerable time away, in order to have draft proposals ready for shareholder
consultation in October (or earlier if you want to avoid the rush for investor attention), turning
your mind to your policy review once this year s DRR is published may make a whole lot of sense.
But how do you know where to start? An increasing number of client companies are undertaking a
risk assessment of their executive remuneration programmes on the basis that it will form the initial
step in the overall remuneration policy review in 2016.
A holistic assessment of risk in your policy can ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Is remuneration aligned with long term business strategy?2. Remuneration policy
Using best fit and prevailing market practice, can remuneration policy be strengthened to mitigate
risk and increase strategic alignment?
3. Remuneration structure
Is there a good balance between fixed and variable pay, short and long term objectives?
Are post employment arrangements in place to reduce risk, such as retirement and termination
provisions?4. Pay plan design
Do the features of the pay plan, such as performance calibration, the degree of discretion, the
shareholding requirements and the clawback/malus provisions, encourage excessive risk taking?
5. Performance metrics
Do the performance metrics reflect the reward for effective risk taking and successful execution of
strategy, e.g. is it absolute or relative performance that is rewarded?6. Governance
Is there effective governance in place?
Are the roles to effectively manage remuneration clearly defined?
In order to assess the nature of risks in each category, judgment needs to be applied. Such
judgement should be informed by market pay knowledge, an understanding of shareholder views,
an appreciation of the company s business strategy and KPIs, and an analysis of recent pay out
history.
What questions do you need to ask?
There are many risks related to remuneration some of which are obvious (compliance risk for
example) and others which are more difficult to identify,

Coral Reef Research Paper
Kelp forests and coral reefs both belong in delicate environments, which when disturbed can have
catastrophic consequences for both of them. Certain processes can cause the eradication of both
kelp forests and coral reefs, as will be discussed in the following paragraphs, including sewage
runoff, changes in water chemistry, and land derived material from soil erosion.
Coral reefs around the world are in constant decline, and this is a major problem. This is
happening due to the direct and indirect effects of overfishing, and pollution that has derived from
land. Both these factors have decimated the cover of coral reef species for over two centuries.
Often involved in the degradation of coral reefs is a shift from the usual extensive covers of the
coral, to extensive covers of microalgae. Examples from around the world have shown that corals
can persist and survive through the long term, chronic stressors, such as overfishing and
eutrophication, however cannot seem to survive and recover from short term, acute disturbances,
such as storm damage or freshwater run off). This is due to the ... Show more content on

This may explain the frequent dominance that micro algae have over coral. While neither enhanced
nutrients nor sedimentation are good for corals, their combined effect is far worse. Coral reefs
that experience loss of herbivores or flood plumes are subjected to very rapid micro algae growth
in the summer. If there has been a substantial reduction in herbivores, and no way to inhibit the
growth of algae, the increase in cover would still occur in certain places (i.e. the Great Barrier
Reef), with or without the change in nutrient availability. This indicates that increased nutrients in
the waters are not necessary for regime shifts in many

Griswold V. Court Case Analysis
1. Many were pleased that the social moral wrong doing was rectified and that fairness had
conclusively prevailed when the Civil Rights Act of 1964 was passed. Its purpose was to
overcome stereotyped thinking (Lecture, Week 6). On the other hand, individuals were enraged
and disappointed. Barry Goldwater opposed this Act by stating that one cannot legislate morality
because The justices cannot, of course, invoke their own personal morality, nor the ideals and
virtues of morality generally (Sandel, 249). He aimed for a neutral state that respects individual
choice (Sandel, 219). Laws are created based on one s own moral beliefs, science, and logic.
Morality varies amongst individual s due to their experiences, exposure to the raw edges ... Show

The privacy rights of two consenting adults was established through Griswold v. Connecticut, but
it was for heterosexual and not homosexual married couples. In 1986 homosexual sodomy laws
were outlawed as the result of Bowers v. Hardwick. In 2003, Lawrence v. Texasoutlawed these
sodomy laws because it deprives them of their liberty in sexual conduct (Article, Lawrence v. Texas,
Week 7). Even though these laws were overturned homosexuals were still discriminated in
employment, public services, and banned from teaching, and the military (Sandel, 253).
3. Jeremy Bentham was the founder of utilitarianism as well as an English philosopher. His theory
expressed that humans are rational beings with a free will to commit crime. Yet, prior to
committing a crime they weigh the costs and benefits to maximize the overall happiness and
minimize the overall pain and punishment (Sandel, 34). In order for a crime to occur, the overall
pleasure should exceed the pain and punishments. Moreover, those who commit a crime have a low
situation control and they are discouraged through punishments that are severe, certain, swift, and

The Namesake Minor Characters
People are often seen as the people they associate themselves with. Humanes begin to evolve as
they grow up and start overcoming baggage. Our loved ones can drift us apart from our roots and
that can be either positive or poor. In the novel The Namesake, Lahiri uses the minor characters
Kim, Ruth and Maxine throughout the novelto highlight Gogol s characterization and journey of
growing up and becoming less understanding and distancing himself from his own culture. This
statement relates to numerous of immigrants who distance themselves from their own culture to the
one they are living in at the moment.
Lahiri creates the minor character of Kim to help explain Gogol s adventure to a different culture
than his. There are abounding moments throughout the novel where Gogol tries to change his
identity because he thinks people will make fun of him because of his name. A major point in the
book is when he is at a college party and meets a girl named Kim. But he doesn t want to tell Kim
his name. He doesn t want to endure her reaction, to watch her lovely blue eyes grow wide (96). In
the following quote, Lahiri uses the internal conflict in Gogol, to have the reader Castellanos 2
sympathize and relate to the circumstance that people can go through when they are afraid what
one might think. Gogol believes that by changing his name, he will be accepted into the community
around him. He is mainly concerned about what girls think of him, rather than

Grout is more than just the cement that fills and holds your tile together; it is an important element of the tilework s design. Often disregarded, grout selection is as significant as the tile you select, and it is the finishing touch that will bring together your unique design. Sanded grout is less expensive and should be used if the spaces between the tiles are greater than 1/8 inch. Non sanded or unsanded grouts, tend to cost more and are made specifically for grout lines smaller than 1/8 inch. Unsanded grout will shrink as it cures and the more grout you have, the more it will shrink. If you try to fill grout lines that are too wide, the grout will shrink enough to pull away from the sides of the tile. Make sure to talk with your installer about choosing the right grout for your specific project. Tips for Selecting Grout Install a few pieces of tile on a piece of plywood and add a couple of different colors of grout. Allow it to properly cure and then place it in the room you are having the tile installed to see how the lighting affects your choice. • 3. The Egyptian Syrian Attack Of September 1973 Assess the reasons for Israel s unpreparedness for the Egyptian Syrian attack of October 1973 The Egyptian Syrian attack that took place on Yon Kippur is a hugely significant event in the history of the Arab Israeli conflict. Often referred to as the trauma , the attack revealed a number of key issues with regards to Israeli defence and intelligence that ultimately resulted in a severe lack of preparation. Israel was unprepared for a plethora of interlinking issues that resulted in a series of fatal mistakes with regard to intelligence and military preparedness. With regards intelligence, an entrenched and overconfident conviction in the Concept blinded the Israeli s to the concrete evidence and forewarnings of the Egyptian Syrian mobilization. The ingenuity of the Egyptian s was also crucial to Israeli unpreparedness, especially the deployment of the almost certain double agent Ashraf Marwan. The Concept is the first significant reason why Israel was grossly unprepared for the attack she did not expect it and this was blunder of her own making. Upon official investigation into the errors of Israeli preparation, the 1975 Agranat Commission highlighted Israel s Military Intelligence Directorate Aman had persistently adhered to a single incorrect Concept regarding Egypt s attack capabilities, disregarding other key intelligence as a result. This Concept was that Egypt would not wage war on the Israeli s before she had, firstly, acquired long range attack ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The W. P. Swanson Confectionery Era Essay The W. P. Swanson Confectionery Era An unfortunate incident occurred toward the conclusion of the 1920s, when robbers broke into Bill, Clara, and Anton s garage and stole their brand new Buick automobile. While Clara lay in bed on the eventful night, she heard noise outside. Fearful of the consequences of a confrontation with the intruders, to safeguard Bill she refrained from waking him. Blissfully unaware of the burglars, Bill slept through the night and didn t discover the theft until morning.26 An investigation revealed that after breaking into the garage, the thieves pushed the car out of the garage, the full length of the driveway onto the street, and down the street away from the scene of the crime, before starting the Buick and driving it away. The authorities never recovered the automobile.27 In 1929, Clara became pregnant at the age of thirty five, regarded as too advanced in years to begin a family. An unexpected child this late in life, of course, created elation for the blessed arrival. However, in addition to Clara s age, her family and personal history also caused grave concerns for the safety of both mother and baby. The death of Clara s mother from frail health attributed to childbirth and the death of Clara s only sibling, a brother, during his first year of life weighed heavily on Bill, Clara, and Anton.28 Furthermore, a miscarriage early in their marriage, while still farming in Peaceful Valley, exacerbated the concern.29 In an era when ... • 5. Religious Affiliation As A Choice Wade and Tavris s Invitation to Psychology defines religious affiliation as a choice made by a person of which particular belief system they will live according to. Furthermore, whether a person is a Methodist, Muslim, Catholic, Jew, Hindu, and so on, is not heritable . The religious group people choose to belong to has a lot to do with influence from several factors, including the affiliation of their parents, ethnicity, culture, and social class (142). Conversely, the term religiosity is defined as a person s depth of religious feeling and adherence to a religions rules (142), and contrary to affiliation, has a genetic component. Growing up in the Episcopal church, God has always been a part of my life. As I have grown up, however, I have continuously assessed my religiosity regarding my faith. Using the book s definition, I believe my religiosity is subtle yet traditional. But when it comes to my own beliefs, there are several factors that have shaped the way I perceive God, faith, religion, and their role in my life. Growing up in the Episcopal church, I have always had a sort of relaxed understanding of God and His teachings. Beginning in kindergarten and continuing through the eighth grade, I attended a private Catholic school as the only student in my grade who wasn t affiliated with the Catholic church. • 6. Money And Happiness In The Great Gatsby Rick Pitino once said, I d learned how much happiness money can bring you, very little. Just as Fitzgerald tried to stress throughout his novel, money will never make a person fully content in life. Francis Scott Fitzgerald, better known as F. Scott Fitzgerald, was one of the great authors of 20th Century America. He was born in St. Paul, Minnesota on September 24, 1896. Finding success from a young age, he wrote The Great Gatsbyat the ripe age of 29. As seen in the book, Gatsby constantly lavished himself with finer material things, trying to fill the void Daisy had left him with. On the other hand, although Daisy had everything and anything money could buy, she was lifeless. Almost every character at some period throughout the book, tried to replace joy with wealth. Money and happiness do not correlate, although one may try to buy their happiness with material things, it is simply not possible. The source of true happiness will never be money. Jay Gatsbyworked tirelessly for years, just to attain the wealth he believed would complete his life. He became a huge success, and was even thought to be superior to others. Sadly, this turned out to be all in vain, because it did nothing but cause the desire in him to grow. His life had been confused and disordered since then, but if he could once return to a certain starting place and go over it all slowly, he could find out what that thing was... (Fitzgerald, 110). • 10. Pros And Cons Of Propaganda Propaganda is not a recent idea or concept however since the creation of film propaganda has found its way into them, especially documentary s. Documentary filmmaking is a platform and mode of filmmaking associated with truth and actuality to present an overview of a topic or issue (Aufderheide, 2007). Audiences expect this when watching documentary films because generally the topic of a documentary filmis based on a real issue and/or event without the use with actors, sets and special effects (with the exception of docudramas) (Nichols, 2010). Although they may be based on a real world issue/event the filmmaker(s) behind the documentaries have an agenda and are trying to push certain ideologies or points of view on the audience. However, the assumption is made that they are doing this through fact and truth (Bizz). Propaganda on the other hand does not rely on truth or fact as it is an idea of dishonestly. Propaganda never tries to persuade or inform instead it attempts to deceive an audience by conveying/creating representations and ideas in a text that can only have one dominant reading (Aufderheide, 2007). Propaganda filmmaking is usually created by governments and political figures to impose hateful/nationalistic viewpoints and ideologies on the general populous (Aufderheide, 2007). Triumph of the Will(Riefenstahl, 1935) and Prelude to War (Capra, 1943) demonstrate that documentaries have the ability to create a false representation of history due to the filmmaker s ... REASON The court held that it is the primary responsibility of the pregnant women s physician to determine the termination of pregnancy during the first trimester. During the second trimester, the State is allowed to intervene in the termination of an unborn fetus with legitimate interest in the pregnant women s health. The State would intervene by regulating the procedures surrounding the women s health. In the third trimester, the State may regulate the procedures surrounding the women s health and even prohibiting the abortion altogether, keeping the pregnant women s health a top priority. The Supreme Court of the United Statesheld that the lawsuit regarding pregnancy, is an exception to the general rule that a difference must occur during each stage of the judicial review, and not only when the action is proposed. The Does complaint searching for injunctive relief was solely based on the contingencies which might or might not have occurred. It was irrelevant for the Court to decide Dr. Hallford s case for injunctive relief, because once the Supreme Court found the laws unconstitutional, the Texas Government were not allowed to enforce them. The dissenting opinion of Justice Rehnquist was that the right to an abortion is not widely accepted by everyone, and that the right to privacy on the matter of abortion is not constitutionally involved in this case. In addition, Justice White made his dissenting opinion based on the constitutional foundations surrounding Jane Roe and the Does, stating: In every other case, there was something in the Constitution you could point to for support. Moreover, in this scene he also used exaggerated gestures by swinging his arms and twisting his hands. • 20. Summary Of Abortion By Anne Sexton In Anne Sexton s poem The Abortion , she uses literary devices to reflect her heart wrenching decision of whether or not to abort one of her children, which reflects the style of confessional poetry because she is sharing her personal feelings and experiences. Anne Sexton was a famous poet of confessional poetry, where the poets write about their private experiences with feelings about death, trauma, and depression in their lives. Anne Sexton wrote from the point of view of an upper middle class woman. She had two children, and the stress of having them, gave her life long depression. Sexton was sent to a psychiatric hospital after the birth of her second child. The Abortiondisplays all of Sexton s feelings that she has about her abortion. Sexton sets off the poem [driving] south (Sexton 5). She is describing her trip to go and get her child aborted, and she sees the road sunken like a gray washboard (9). I myself have a son and daughter and the one thing I never want to go through, is what you are going through right now. But: as harsh as this sounds your dead kids don t trump my Constitutional rights. This is the type of thing that people find so terrible about the Second Amendment; because pro gunzealots use the Second Amendment to protect their immoral actions, but this is their twisted and corrupted interpretation on the meaning and intent of the Amendment because this is in no way the original premise of the Second Amendment. The right to bear arms laid out in the Second Amendment is just because guns are weapons for self defense. Precautions are taken on gun control, such as keeping a permanent record of all gun sales, requiring a license and certain mental certifications, and only allowing certain guns to be distributed to the public. Although some may argue that they can also be used to kill the innocent, the removal of guns from the possession of certified citizens will not stop crime, murder, or the death of innocents because guns are not the only weapons capable of these deaths. First of all, the right to bear arms is just because guns are weapons of self defense, and can be used to prevent the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Five to 8 year olds who think their moms are unhappy with their bodies are more likely to feel dissatisfied with their own, according to Common Sense Media s report (Wallace, 2015). I myself have never said something like this around a young child; however, I know my sister did something similar and her then seven year old daughter started criticizing her own body. My sister being the quick thinking hands on parent asked her why she thought her body image was negative and my niece said because this make me look fat like you said something did on you. From that point forward our family has Ban fat talk (Wallace, 2015). My sister or anyone else in my family has said this or that make use look fat, since we have many young children looking up to ... First being Carnegie Mellon s history with Operations Research or the other names it goes by. Secondly is CMU s location as it is important for several reasons. The third reason may be unconventional considering my other two choices. With these three reasons make up my top three reasons for choosing Carnegie Mellon, but they are not the only three. Beginning before World War 1 Carnegie Mellon was already making itself known in an up and coming field called Industrial Research. • 43. Human And Environmental Interactions Of The Salem Creek... Human and Environmental Interactions Each watershed varies depending on location. The Salem Creek watershed naturally consists of rocks, vegetation, water, clay and loam soils, slopes, and juvenile aquatic life. Conversely, there is naturally some stream bank and soil erosion. As for human features, the watershed consists of drainage pipes, sewage pipes, bridges, mounds of cement, and pollution sources. Most of the human features are generally in the highly urbanized areas of the watershed, which consists of northwestern portion of Winston Salem, NC. There were also impervious surfaces bordering both sides of the watershed. On the stretch parallel to Old Salem Road, there was Old Salem Road on one side of the watershed, and housing and other buildings on the other. With the portion that is appears near South Main Street, there is a multiuse development and major road bordering it. There is also cement on the furthest side of the watershed and a sidewalk on the other that border the wide portion of the watershed that is located in the Salem Creek Greenway. Many of these impervious surfaces have drainage systems that run directly into the watershed. As shown above in the center picture, there is direct drainage from the street to the watershed with no type of filtration, which in return has cause the glistening polluted puddle in front of the drainage pipe. • 44. Energy expenditure, intake and balance Task 1 [P3, M1] Describe/explain potential sources of energy intake and expenditure and the factors that affect intake and expenditure such as basal metabolism, age, gender, climate and physical activity. Food is a source of energy intake as it contains carbohydrates; there main function is to store energy in the muscles. Carbs are a macronutrient and come in two different forms, simple which are foods like chocolate and sweets these release energy quickly, the other form is complex which are foods like pasta and rice they release energy slower so are better to keep energy for a sustained period of time. There are certain factors that affect energy intake for instance what gender you are affects how much energy you need, a male s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These measurements are then converted into body fat percentage using an equation; a male should have around 15% body fat whereas a female should have 20 25% due to them having breasts etc. (100 words) Bioelectrical Impedance Bioelectrical impedance measures the resistance of body tissues to the flow of a small electrical signal. The proportion of body fat can be calculated due to the current flowing through the parts of the body that are made up of mostly of water such as blood, urine and muscle this is not possible through bone, fat and air. By doing this it is possible to work out how much body fat the person has by combining the bioelectric impendence measurement with factors such as gender, age, height, weight, and fitness level. (100 words) Hydro densitometry Hydro densitometry (which is also known as hydrostatic weighing) is weighing someone while they are in water, it is considered to be the most accurate form of measuring body fat. A very large tank of water is used for this test, firstly a comparison is made between the underwater weight and the dry weight of a person. Due to fat being less dense than the other tissues in the body, it floats more easily. The more fat a person has on their body, the greater the difference between the dry and wet weights. While this method of measuring is very accurate and considered the best way of measuring body fat, not many people use this method because the equipment and test is highly expensive. (100 words) ... • 45. Executive Pay Matters Executive Pay Matters UK Risky Remuneration 2017 will mean renewal of executive remuneration policy for most listed companies. Whilst that may seem like a considerable time away, in order to have draft proposals ready for shareholder consultation in October (or earlier if you want to avoid the rush for investor attention), turning your mind to your policy review once this year s DRR is published may make a whole lot of sense. But how do you know where to start? An increasing number of client companies are undertaking a risk assessment of their executive remuneration programmes on the basis that it will form the initial step in the overall remuneration policy review in 2016. • 46. Coral Reef Research Paper Kelp forests and coral reefs both belong in delicate environments, which when disturbed can have catastrophic consequences for both of them. Certain processes can cause the eradication of both kelp forests and coral reefs, as will be discussed in the following paragraphs, including sewage runoff, changes in water chemistry, and land derived material from soil erosion. Coral reefs around the world are in constant decline, and this is a major problem. This is happening due to the direct and indirect effects of overfishing, and pollution that has derived from land. Both these factors have decimated the cover of coral reef species for over two centuries. Often involved in the degradation of coral reefs is a shift from the usual extensive covers of the coral, to extensive covers of microalgae. Examples from around the world have shown that corals can persist and survive through the long term, chronic stressors, such as overfishing and eutrophication, however cannot seem to survive and recover from short term, acute disturbances, such as storm damage or freshwater run off). This is due to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This may explain the frequent dominance that micro algae have over coral. While neither enhanced nutrients nor sedimentation are good for corals, their combined effect is far worse. Coral reefs that experience loss of herbivores or flood plumes are subjected to very rapid micro algae growth in the summer. If there has been a substantial reduction in herbivores, and no way to inhibit the growth of algae, the increase in cover would still occur in certain places (i.e. the Great Barrier Reef), with or without the change in nutrient availability. This indicates that increased nutrients in the waters are not necessary for regime shifts in many ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 47. Griswold V. Court Case Analysis 1. Many were pleased that the social moral wrong doing was rectified and that fairness had conclusively prevailed when the Civil Rights Act of 1964 was passed. Its purpose was to overcome stereotyped thinking (Lecture, Week 6). On the other hand, individuals were enraged and disappointed. Barry Goldwater opposed this Act by stating that one cannot legislate morality because The justices cannot, of course, invoke their own personal morality, nor the ideals and virtues of morality generally (Sandel, 249). He aimed for a neutral state that respects individual choice (Sandel, 219). Laws are created based on one s own moral beliefs, science, and logic. Even though these laws were overturned homosexuals were still discriminated in employment, public services, and banned from teaching, and the military (Sandel, 253). 3. Jeremy Bentham was the founder of utilitarianism as well as an English philosopher. His theory expressed that humans are rational beings with a free will to commit crime. Yet, prior to committing a crime they weigh the costs and benefits to maximize the overall happiness and minimize the overall pain and punishment (Sandel, 34). In order for a crime to occur, the overall pleasure should exceed the pain and punishments. Our loved ones can drift us apart from our roots and that can be either positive or poor. In the novel The Namesake, Lahiri uses the minor characters Kim, Ruth and Maxine throughout the novelto highlight Gogol s characterization and journey of growing up and becoming less understanding and distancing himself from his own culture. This statement relates to numerous of immigrants who distance themselves from their own culture to the one they are living in at the moment. Lahiri creates the minor character of Kim to help explain Gogol s adventure to a different culture than his. There are abounding moments throughout the novel where Gogol tries to change his identity because he thinks people will make fun of him because of his name. A major point in the book is when he is at a college party and meets a girl named Kim. But he doesn t want to tell Kim his name. He doesn t want to endure her reaction, to watch her lovely blue eyes grow wide (96). In the following quote, Lahiri uses the internal conflict in Gogol, to have the reader Castellanos 2 sympathize and relate to the circumstance that people can go through when they are afraid what one might think.
