Who were African American Loyalists?
Black loyalists were African Americans who helped fight for Britain during the revolutionary war in return for their promise
of freedom after the war was over. There were two declarations authorized by Britain encouraging African American slaves
to escape from slavery, leave their masters, and come over to Britain to fight. There were over 100,000 slaves that escaped
from slavery in order for their chance to gain freedom.
