Digital cameras can be useful tools in the classroom for students to visually document experiments, projects, and physical performances. Photos and videos taken with digital cameras or phones can help students better understand concepts by seeing examples, stick in students' minds more firmly than text alone, and be used for self-reflection and critique to improve skills and assessments. When reviewing videos frame by frame, students and teachers can closely analyze actions and find ways to boost performance.

I attended the session entitled, "Bite size is the right size: How microlearning shrinks the skills gap" given by Alex Khurgin of Grovo. The session took place at the 2015 Learning Solutions Conference and Expo in Orlando, Florida.
I created a mind map of the session. One of the key takeaways that I had from the session was although microlearning is better for learner engagement, it doesn't replace but supports the macro.Wrestling With Shadows
Virtualization allows multiple operating systems to run on a single machine. WCU piloted virtualization in 35 classrooms to make more efficient use of resources and streamline support. However, the pilot encountered issues like stuttering video and trouble with USB devices, impairing some professors' ability to teach. Faculty reaction ranged from quiet to opposed. WCU learned that virtualization is not ideal for all use cases and greater education is needed. Changes were made, like dedicated training sessions, and the following semester ran more smoothly as WCU continued pursuing effective application of virtualization.

Brightwave returned to DevLearn in 2015 to present an exciting session on the Learning Media Studio stage.

Interactive film to train bartenders worldwide:
Diageo's Bar Academy workshops provide skilled staff with exceptional product knowledge, customer service and principles for responsible use of alcohol. With bartenders influencing customers' drinks choice more than any in-bar marketing, Diageo required an interactive solution to accompany their face-to-face training, accessible by a global audience.
Brightwave's Head of Production Colin Welch and Head of Learning Design Caroline Freeman presented a case study, showcasing our approach to interactive video production and game-based learning.
Using innovative development techniques including interactive film, gaming and first person role play, the session covered the fundamentals of bar skills and good service via immersive scenarios: learners receive basic bar skills tuition before undertaking a series of interactive challenges where they make decisions about how best to fulfil customer orders, seeing the consequences of their decisions and earning tips along the way.

Backchannel & notetaking
This is a presentation for my MILI class on how to use social bookmarking tools and backchannel tools in notetaking.
The Backchannel
The backchannel refers to communication among audience members during a live event, often facilitated by technology like social media. It can be constructive if it enhances the event, or destructive if it detracts from it. Examples of backchannel participation include using hashtags to tag others, attaching pictures, and shortening URLs. A presenter should be aware that audience members on their phones may be actively engaging in the backchannel discussion rather than being distracted. The backchannel conversation often continues after an event ends as people follow new connections.
Hong Kong
Hong Kong is located in southern China along the Pearl River Delta with beautiful beaches, mountains, and flora. It was a British colony from 1842 to 1997, leaving it with a strong British heritage. As a special administrative region, Hong Kong has its own government and maintains independence from China in all areas except defense.
